• We read, make notes, PPTs
• We design the course (lecture material, exercises,
assignments…)
• We lecture and assess learning

• We evaluate assignments, tests, exams (and feel

5. What students do:
• Relax/play/procrastinate through the
semester
• Cram overnight for the exams
• Clear ROM immediately after exams
• Believe that is how LIFE works
6. Why students do not like classes:
• Some are gapped out
• Some have read the text !
• It is too monotonous
• It is compulsory !
• Switch – over is too rapid
• It is too theoretical
• It is not meant for me
• It is passive
• It is too slow or fast
• The teacher is unprepared
7. Why teachers do not likes classes:
• The students come unprepared
• They are not serious
• Their body language is unenthusiastic
• They suffer from ADS
• They are not attentive
• They do not show respect
• They do not UNDERSTAND

• It is not my responsibility
• Let us get over it…… somehow

9. Let us make learning enjoyable:
• Understand the benefits
• Understand each other
• Involve the students
• Understand their level of knowledge, limitations and plan
accordingly
• Search/Identify appropriate materials
• Plan your session
• Teach students (not english, science, maths)
10. Involving the students:
• Become a co-learner
• Give them space to speak-up
• Listen intently
• Respect disagreements
• Question the obvious
• Believe in them
• Make pre-reading a must
11. Make the classes interesting:
• Tie theory to practice
• Take examples from the students’ context
• Allow laughter
• Use humor judiciously
• Be firm and respectful
• Be patient
• Treat every student as your biological child
12. Use assessments effectively:
• Assess regularly
• Give group assignments
• Do not tie all assessments to grades
• Take feedback on content, learning, self
• Share feedback on self
• Share your vulnerability
13. Interact outside the classroom:
• Slot time for student queries
• Visit student Canteen/hostel/homes
• Invite students home
• Ask for student-interaction budget
• Work with them on assignments
• Make learning FUN
