I Am The Researcher For A Production Company And I Have
I am the researcher for a production company and I have been asked to produce an individual research
which will be based on analysing and investigating the TV and Film industries. I will be using
different case studies to explore ownership and funding in the media industry as it will help me
understand what the TV and film industry is, how it works and how ownership and funding relate to
the industry. I will be using many different case studies involving several companies. A few
companies I will be researching are: News Corp , Viacom , Disney and Universal. I will also be
researching on other companies such as the BBC.
The TV and film industry is made up of a list of different companies that operate differently and are

Private Companies are companies that are either owned by non governmental organizations or by a
relatively small number of shareholders or company members which does not offer or trade its
company stock (shares) to the general public on the stock market exchanges, but rather the company s
stock is offered, owned and traded or exchanged privately (Google).
Private companies are very similar to independent companies; the only real difference is that private
companies can choose their shareholders. Private companies don t need to meet the strict exchange
commission requirements that public companies have to, like having to give a certain percentage of
their income to the government.
Independent companies are companies which work on their own; they can make decision on their own
and are free of influence by government or corporate interests. Independent companies are different to
subsidiaries as Independent companies are not owned by any conglomerate. An advantage of an
independent company is that all the money the company makes is its own profit instead of being
shared with other companies. A disadvantage of an independent media company is that they often find
it difficult to survive against competition from bigger companies that are owned by conglomerates as
they are better known, which reduces their source of income resulting in bankruptcy.
Although if an independent media company is

I Believe In Fairytales Analysis
I want to believe in fairytales. In magic and make believe. In heroes and happy endings and all things
impossible.
I want to. And once in a rare, whimsical while I succeed. For a brief, passing moment I will believe
that carousels can come to life, and unicorns with wings will carry me to the other side of the sun.
That miracles will happen, and all dreams can come true.
It is a lovely daydream that I always wish could remain just a little while longer. A beautiful daydream
too fragile to withstand even the gentlest sigh.
Do you know what I love? Of course you don t. I love the incongruent. I love men s clothes on
women. Flowing, antique dresses and combat boots. It is unexpected. But not unpleasant. That is not

Soft, easy, breathless colors of sand and sky and laughter, every building a different shade, no two
next to one another the same.
I think it would be like living in a Monet painting, were he ever to paint the city.
I walk for a while along the strange streets of this puzzle, eventually wandering purposefully into the
cavernous, cool, silent vacuum of a beautiful, small, wonderfully ornate church on the upper east side.
The church of the Holy Trinity.
Instantly I am certain I have gone deaf. It is the one place I have been where the silence is so loud you
can hear it. The complete and total lack of sound. The silence is so strong, so dominating I cannot
even hear myself breathing. I am nothing. Sweet, perfect nothing.
I feel I have gone back in time. The stone walls and rising wooden beams reach impossibly far into the
vault of the ceiling. There is none there but I. Alone. And yet, there is such an intense sense of
fullness.
I am afraid to take a step for fear the sound of my boot on the floor will shatter the very air.
I try to breathe deeper than my lungs, take that silence directly into my body so that I might carry it
around with me. So that as long as there is Holly, there is

John Coltrane Essay
John Coltrane
John Coltrane Jazz, taking its roots in African American folk music, has evolved, metamorphosed, and
transposed itself over the last century to become a truly American art form. More than any other type
of music, it places special emphasis on innovative individual interpretation. Instead of relying on a
written score, the musician improvises. For each specific period or style through which jazz has gone
through over the past seventy years, there is almost always a single person who can be credited with
the evolution of that sound. From Thelonius Monk, and his bebop, to Miles Davis cool jazz, from
Dizzy Gillespie s big band to John Coltrane s free jazz; America s music has been developed, and
refined countless times ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Within a year, his father, his uncle, and his minister all died. He lost every important male influence in
his life. After graduating from high school in High Point, he moved to Philadelphia in 1943, where he
lived in a small one room apartment and worked as a laborer in a sugar refinery. For a year, Coltrane
attended Ornstein School of Music. Then in 1945, he was drafted into the Navy and sent to Hawaii
where he was assigned to play clarinet in a band called the Melody Makers. Upon his return from
Hawaii a year later, Coltrane launched his music career. With all those years of constant practice in
High Point behind him, possessing a powerful inner strength from being raised in a deeply religious
family, and with a foundation in musical theory and an innate curiosity about life, Coltrane was well
prepared to seriously enter a battle. In the late nineteen forties, Coltrane began playing with several
different R B groups in small bars and clubs around Philadelphia. It became a tradition in many of the
clubs at this time for musicians to walk the bar (i.e. to walk on top of the bar while playing one s
instrument). Coltrane was ashamed of having to go through this display every night. To any serious
musician, it was an incredibly humiliating experience to someone like Coltrane, who was developing a
type of religious fervor for his music, it was

The Medical Team, Inc.
The Medical Team,Inc. is privately owned company established in 1978 and the headquarter is located
at Reston,Virgnia. It provides personal care services and catastrophic care solution. The company has
more than 35 nurses most of LPN and a lot of nursing aid workers. From my discussion I came to
understand that most of their patients are senior citizens and with a lot of medical complications.
Medicare mostly covers their insurance and the main focuses of the home health care are to reduce
hospital readmission rate with in thirty days of patient discharge. Most of the challenge is patient s
dependency on nurse aids for their day to day life and some of them also lucks family support. This
situation put them in vulnerable stage for their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The First Arduino Essay
The first Arduino was introduced in 2005, aiming to provide a low cost, easy way for novices and
professionals to create devices that interact with their environment using sensors and actuators.
Common examples of such devices intended for beginner hobbyists include simple robots,
thermostats, and motion detectors. Arduino boards are available commercially in preassembled form,
or as do it yourself kits. The hardware design specifications are openly available, allowing the Arduino
boards to be produced by anyone. Adafruit Industries estimated in mid 2011 that over 300,000 official
Arduinos had been commercially produced, and in 2013 that 700,000 official boards were in users
hands. Hardware: An Arduino board consists of an Atmel 8 , 16 or 32 bit AVR microcontroller
(although since 2015 other makers microcontrollers have been used) with complementary components
that facilitate programming and incorporation into other circuits. An important aspect of the Arduino is
its standard connectors, which let users connect the CPU board to a variety of interchangeable add on
modules termed shields. Some shields communicate with the Arduino board directly over various pins,
but many shields are individually addressable via an I²C serial bus so many shields can be stacked and
used in parallel. Before 2015, Official Arduinos had used the Atmel mega AVR series of chips,
specifically the ATmega8, ATmega168, ATmega328, ATmega1280, and ATmega2560. In 2015, units

The Invention Of Printing Press
In 1440, for too many people was the year of change in the global communication. It was during this
time in Mainz, Germany that a goldsmith s Johannes Gutenberg created one of the most important
machines during the modern period: the printing press. The printing press was inspired by earlier uses
found in China and Japan as early as the 7th century. In this time the way to print was using the
method of block printing, which was a piece of wood used to print a specific piece of text. ( Patterns

With the Gutenberg invention the revolution had begun. It advanced the process of movable type
further, and started a new era of printing called typography. The typography allowed information to

User Interface )
The templates are essential in mobile design. It helps to the designer to create layouts based on
cultural norms of reading and how people process information. The templates that are used across a
product, on most every page of a website or application, we call a wrapper because they enclose (wrap
around) all the other components and the content. Also there are some patterns based on how the
human mind processes pattern, objects, and information. ( User Interface )
Scroll bars when information on a page exceeds the viewport, a scroll bar control may be required to
access the additional information. Scrolling of information should almost always occur along one axis,
except in rare cases. ( Patterns for )
The problem can be more information in the page or element than can fit in the viewport. You have to
provide a method to access this information.
The solution for mobiles will be to display them to indicate the scrollable axes, and the relative
position within the scrollable area.
Whenever possible, you should make sure scrolling takes place on a single axis. This is why the whole
set of patterns based around vertical scroll exist. When the situation demands, such as for zooming in
to content which otherwise fits the area, you can also offer a secondary scroll axis. Keep the secondary
axis in mind throughout the design process because

Effects Of The Media On Society
Chapter 3: Effects of the Media Though war contributed to changes in society, the media was the
driving factor behind changes including the fixation with beauty among women. Magazines had the
ability to perpetuate the already emerging ideals. The idea of self improvement became a very popular
topic in the 1920s seen across all women s magazines, contributing to the progression from the middle
class women to the New Woman. This New Woman was one of beauty and fun with admiration and
lasting popularity as stated in International Women s News magazine, promoting fragrances that made
such claims. The emergence of products and methods to attain the arising beauty standards fared well
in combination with advertising that enforced fears and vanity associated with such.
Change in Beauty Standards: Topic sentence? Products such as reducing belts and slimming baths
were advertised to reduce body weight. With more leisure time after production and integration of
automated machines (is this supporting opposition?) books and magazines were in every household.
The best seller diet book written by Dr. Lulu Hunt Peter, Diet and Health, the Key to Calories, was
popularized as the body image of women was brought to the forefront of their minds. This idea known
as scientific homemaking was used by advertisers to convince women of how they should feel, and
thus change their consumerism habits. Advertising of the 20s had shifted from portraying delicate
ladies to the fun New

Gordie is the smart and sensible one of the group and devises a plan to go find the boy s body. Some
of the film techniques are short shot and long shot. A short short contains only one of the characters.
In the dog chase scene they used lots of film technique such as medium shot low angle and high angle.
The medium shot is a general, all purpose shot. Medium shots are used for dialogue sequences, and
they allow the viewer to pick up on the character s movements and gestures. Body language is
important to conveying emotion, and the medium shot remains close enough to capture that emotion.
The dog chase scene is about when the four boys stop at the junkyard to get some water and Gordie is
made to go to the shops to get some food and drinks. When gordie is coming back from the shop he
looks around and can t see his friends anywhere. When Gordie looks ahead he sees them jumping a
fence, he doesn t know what is happening but then he sees the junkman looking straight at him.
Gordie is scared and runs as fast as he can as the junkman s dog chases him, Gordie jumps the fence
and the junkman comes up to the boys on the other side and starts making fun of Teddy s dad.
When the boy s find the dead body they are shocked because they have never seen a dead body before.

The Little Mermaid Comparison
Hans Christian Anderson s 1975 rendition of The Little Mermaid borrows heavily from the themes
and story of the 1960 s version of the animation with the same name. Traditionally, the Soyuzmultfilm
was a tool for advancing Soviet propaganda. The animation studio was founded when Russian politics
was dominated by communism propaganda. The authorities wanted to send information to their
recognizable enemies, who were fascists, imperialists, and capitalists. In Anderson s version, Ariel is
the youngest daughter who grows increasingly upset with life at the bottom of the sea. Consequently,
she decides to be with the humans above the water. She gets into an intense argument with her father
over the barbaric fish eaters. She decides to visit the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the story, the color blue dominates most of the scenes because of the watery setting. The animator
uses blue to represent the underwater world of the mermaid. Evidently, blue represents and describes a
certain element of the world of the mermaid. The producers render a utopian kingdom complete with a
king, princess, and some subjects. However, it is difficult to understand the reason the little mermaid
desires to depart the underwater world seeing how she lives like royalty. In the same way, it is visible
that the producer uses the color red to depict the sun in The Little Mermaid in 1975. In essence, red
represents the world above the water. However, red appears in some of the possessions of the little

Economic Policy of President Woodrow Wilson Essay examples
nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp;Woodrow Wilson, as the 28th President of the United States, enacted
some of the most sweeping economic overhauls the American government has ever seen. The
Professor President , by compromising and cutting deals, was able to bring to life his vision of reform
in the business world. The Underwood Simmons bill, the Federal Reserve Act, the Federal Trade
Commission Act and the Clayton Anti Trust Act were all brought about by Wilson as tools to further
his goal of taking away power from the large corporations and banks and giving it to the small
businesses and entrepreneurs. nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp;First, Wilson enacted the Underwood

In order to offset the loss in revenue, he put into place the income tax, which the nation had been
pushing for but until the passing of an amendment that year, had been ruled unconstitutional. Wilson
wanted to relieve the nation of the burden of tariffs, but still realized the importance of government
revenue. In addition to government finance, the progressive income tax helped shift the burden off the
poor and onto those more able to foot the bill of taxation. The fact that Wilson was able to pass such a
tax says something about his relative innocence in respect to affiliation with corporate interest groups.
Coming into politics from the world of academia, he had not formed connections with special interests
that most career politicians had and thus was able to relate more to the constituents he had left only a

The Obligatory Elements For Establishing Fraudulent...
The following essay will discuss the obligatory elements for establishing fraudulent misrepresentation.
This explicit area of business law is reinforced by precedent cases which encapsulate and clarify the
elements required to establish an argument for damages based on fraudulent misrepresentation. In
light of this, the essay will argue in favour of Bob Wheelie, with support of relevant case law, that the
reckless actions of Mr Spokes constitute the grounds for an action for fraud and damages to the other
party (Bob Wheelie). The sufficient evidence validates that: Mr Spokes held prior knowledge about
the business claiming a false statement of fact; Mr Spokes provided the statement in order to induce
Bob into entering the contract; Mr Spokes employed the use of misrepresentation knowing that such
representation was false and would cause detrimental repercussions; and as a result Bob Wheelie
suffered economic loss. Therefore, these findings indicate that Bob Wheelie can claim damages
against Mr Spokes on the basis of fraudulent misrepresentation.
The statutory prohibition of misleading or deceptive conduct under section 18(1) of the Australian
Consumer Law provides:
A person must not, in trade or commerce, engage in conduct that is misleading or deceptive or is likely
to mislead or deceive.
The grounds of fraudulent misrepresentation were established in the case of Derry v Peek (1889) 14
App Cas 337 . Lord Herschell stated that fraudulent misrepresentation arises when a

The Age Of Revolutions And The Modern World
The Age of Revolutions and the Modern World
Name:
Institution:
Introduction
The period from 1774 to 1848, is referred to as the Age of Revolution. This is because it saw various
significant revolutionary movements take place that gave way to the complex modern world. These
revolutions took place in different regions in Europe and across America. Some of the revolutions
include: American Revolution, the Haitian Revolution, the revolt of the slaves in Latin America, the
Greek Revolution, the French Revolution, and the independence movements of nations in Latin
America. These revolutions are considered to have impacted the world as they changed different
aspects of society including social setup, political aspects and the economic set up of the world
(Matson, 2005).
The term modernization refers to the transformation or change of a society from a rural and agrarian
position to a more urban, secular and industrial position. Modernization developed rapidly after the
age of revolution and changed the society. The idea of modernization is derived from the notion of an
evolutionary society. This involves the transition of society from barbarism to a developed and ...

tis misuse of power. The American Revolution, for example, started in mid 1770s, with the Battle of
Lexington. The American Revolutionary War was a fight for the independence from the colonial rule
of the British. The French revolution started a decade after the American revolution. Similar to the
American revolution, the French revolution occurred following the desire to change the political

Effects Of Stigma On African Americans
Social stigma is defined as the censure of, or dissatisfaction with, a person due to a physical, social, or
psychological feature(s) that differentiates that individual from the cultural norm (Goffman, 1963).
Being accepted by others is considered an essential human need, being ostracized or marginalized can
be psychologically deleterious for the stigmatized individual (Goffman, 1963). Dating back to our
caveman days, stigma has a profound impact on people s mental and physical health in a variety of
populations, as well as their fight for survival in the wild (e.g., the effect of racism on
African Americans: (Voelkl et al 1991). In addition to overt stigmas, such as those attached to an
individual s race and gender, there are also stigmas that are attached to less apparent, concealable
identities, such as those attached to an individual s sexual orientation, mental illness and so on
(Pachankis, 2007).
In a culture that exalts motherhood to the highest conceivable honor a woman can achieve there is a
group of people that are only recently talked about that are stigmatized they are women who do not
have children the childless or child free women.
In traditional societies, the childless woman was marked in some sense as having failed in satisfying a
fundamental female function bearing children. She may have been pitied or scorned or even treated
with consolation by fecund contemporaries but she remained nonetheless an outsider, a woman who,
for whatever reason,

Examples Of High-Class Conflict In The Great Gatsby
The cynosures of the 1920s were people in the high class society . They had abundant amounts of
money, as well as bragging rights to do as they please. One of the most prominent themes in The Great
Gatsby is the social class conflicts in the 1920s. F. Scott Fitzgerald portrays this through rich versus
poor conflicts, as well as through Old Money versus New Money conflicts. In this novel, rich are
treated significantly different from the poor. The first time the reader really sees this conflict is when
Daisy makes fun of their butler. As if spreading gossip, Daisy bluntly asks, Do you want to hear about
the butler (Fitzgerald pg17)? She then goes on to explain that he can not smell because of his old job,
which was for lower class people. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Tom is a rich man who lives in East Egg, whereas George is a poor man who lives at a gas station in

Wilson, who lives in the Valley of Ashes hates her life at the gas station , and wants more for her life
than a man who only faked his wealth to be with her (Sam January 17, 2013). Because of this mishap,
Myrtle strives to be with the prosperous Tom Buchanan throughout the book, but no man would step
down in class just to be with a woman at the social status that Myrtle is at. As a result of the social
status difference, Myrtle has no right to speak about Daisy because she is so far below her. This issue
becomes present at the end of chapter 3 when Myrtle, out of spite and ignorance, begins to shout
Daisy s name. Tom is the most dominant character throughout the novel, and with one swift upward

because Myrtle was speaking out of place. This example shows the extreme actions taken against

Catapults Research Paper

Catapults
The physics behind a catapult can be a complex topic to grasp. But, when broken down, looking
individually at their historical uses, design types, and related physics concepts, it s surprisingly simple
to form an opinion on which catapult design is most effective and why. These categories, when
combined, define the uses, functionality, and effectiveness of the historical (and modern day) catapult.
Catapults were originally developed in 399 B.C, and had derived their shooting power from springs,
twisted bundles of cords, or heavier weighted cords. When the twisted ropes on these catapults were
released, a stone weighing around 50 pounds could be launched the length of four football fields,
though some of the largest catapults could throw stones up to 600 pounds, and some of the smaller
models were used to launch flaming arrows at foes (Jason Richie, Designing the Tools of War).
Catapults, you see, were used for a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The ballista is also a very viable option, but I truly believe the trebuchet is the way to go, and let me
explain why. First, the transfer of energy that occurs when the weight is dropped, should allow the
projectile to launch quickly and have significantly more force, which is important when hitting the
intended target. Second, a trebuchet was originally used more than the basic catapult, and far
preferred, due to its greater range capabilities and improved accuracy. The mechanical advantage of
dropping the counterweight to lift the beam, allows the payload to achieve a higher velocity, which
creates a faster more efficient catapult. There are many other types of catapults that use different
physics methods to achieve high speed and a strong force, but between the more complicated
structures and the varied intentions for uses when being built, each other model performs tasks
differently. Therefore, I believe the best catapult option is the classic

Negative Effects Of Pollution
Pollution is a serious global issue that has occurred for as long as humans have inhabited the planet.
There are several different varieties of pollution, as well as an abundance of materials, both natural
and synthetic, that the earth is contaminated with. Shifrin (2005) states: To date, wastes remain a fact
of life and there are only three places to dispose of wastes air, water, or land. Waste management
always involves tradeoffs (p. 676). Even though Shifrin is correct in his analysis, it does not excuse
the amount of environmental poison that continues to exist today, nor the amount of environmental
problems that it has caused throughout history. The tradeoffs of pollution have devastated entire

more durable and has a higher melting point than its low density counterpart. Both of these types of
polyethylene are used to create many different items of plastic, including pipes, toys, and the one that
consumers use every day in grocery stores: the plastic bag.
Issue of Concern
Plastic bags can be found by the hundreds in stores all across the country and in many parts of the
world, but what exactly is a plastic bag? According to Rujnic Sokele and Baric (2014): A plastic
shopping bag is a polymer carry bag provided or utilised at the retail point of sale for carrying and

lies the concern: while they are convenient because of their lightness and durability, when the
consumer no longer has need of them, they are cast aside without a second thought. Littering is very
common, and many individuals simply don t care that they aren t being good stewards of the earth;
this in turn can have a disastrous impact on the environment as it can lead to potential cases of large
scale buildup in an emergency situation. In an article on plastic waste in the country of Jordan, M.

The Skin Of African Americans
Beneath the Surface
Have you ever wanted to walk in someone else s shoes for a day and see what life is like for people on
the other side of the planet? Would you be more thankful for the life you have and the skin you live
in? The environment, food, and habits are different for everyone depending on where they live in the
world. Americans have the ability to see the flexibility in these components, but other countries can
not afford to change these factors to benefit their skin. The skin is the largest organ of the body, the
Sudanese and American families must be able to promote a healthy lifestyle to maintain and enhance
their skin.
African Americans have learned to adapt to the different environments all around the world and how
the affects of their lifestyles change their bodies. African American skin adapts to climate differently
than those of white decent. For instance, African Americans have naturally oily skin, when they move
to weather with harsher temperature factors like the sun and weather patterns can cause them to have
skin problems. Cold weather causes their skin to crack and discolor because they are meant to have
oily skin and are able to adapt to warmer climates better than others (Aretha C Smith) (William
Robertson Boggs). The environment and healthy foods both contribute to healthy skin. It is
significantly easier for the Aboubakar family (Sudanese family) to adapt to the climate in their region
of the world because the weather is normally hot. This

it is shows how the Nazi s are trying to strip everything away in a horrible mannerism that the concept
is difficult to explain in any language and a new language is brought from the pain and suffering that
is happening. Another exampling of the dehumanization in Auschwitz is prisoners being stripped from
everything they had, including their identity. I have learned that I am Haftling. My number is 174517

Water Conservation Essay
Every month about 3.9 trillion gallons of water is consumed by the United States alone stated The
Water Information Program. Water conservation is when you use water efficiently and avoid waste.
Our water supply is restricted which means we don t have an endless supply. The Earth only has 3% of
fresh water and we only have access to about 1% of it. We currently have an increasing population
which makes it more important than ever to conserve our water supply. Most of the water we have
access to is either wasted or polluted. We need to take action to help conserve the water we use today!
Water is the most important substance to sustain human life. Water makes up to 60 percent of the
human body. We can survive roughly up to 7 8 days without water. It is important to conserve water
because it minimizes the effects of water shortages during droughts, water sustains human life, it helps
preserve our environment, and it saves money. Conserving water helps minimize the effects of water
shortages during droughts. Even though water eventually returns back to the Earth, it doesn t always
return to the same spot. When an area doesn t get the water it needs, a drought occurs. A drought
occurs when there is a prolonged period of abnormally low rainfall; resulting in water shortages.
Droughts also cause food shortages because when a drought takes place crops can t grow due to the
lack of water. Droughts can cause major damages and some areas can t recover. Conserving water can

How Does Tennyson Reveal Character In The Lady Of Shalott
1. How does Lord Tennyson reveal character in The Lady of Shalott ? Is she a fully developed
character?
The characters are revealed with a long introduction into the people we are about to meet. The Lady of
Shalott shows depth of personality and she is a fully developed character.
2. Describe the setting of the poem. Remember to comment on both the island and the surrounding
countryside, and on the time in which the poem is set. How essential is the setting to the poem?
There is a river that runs between Shalott and Camelot. There is wheat and barley that covers an open
area of land. There is a well traveled road that leads to Camelot, there are willow trees and aspen trees.
There are four grey towers and four grey walls that surround the Lady inside.
3. Why is the mirror so important to her? Do you think the mirror might have any symbolic
significance? If so, what?
The mirror is in her connection to the outside world. She sees all the people who travel the road. The
significance of the mirror is that while it does give her the ability to see the outside world, the images
are dark and unrecognizable. What I take from this is that in her solitude, she is still unable to make
connections with people even through a magic mirror.
4. What is the curse that lies upon the Lady? Does she know what the curse is?
The nature of the curse that was laid upon the lady was never fully discussed. The basic concept of the
curse is that if she stops weaving her magic web then the curse could possibly kill her
5. How is Lancelot described in the poem? Look at the words used to describe him. What does this
suggest about his character? In what way is he a contrast to the Lady of Shalott?
His shield has a red cross knight kneeling before his lady, his horse bridle is filled with jewels, and
bells he has a specially decorated, belt across his shoulder and carrying a silver bugle. His forehead
glows in the sunlight, his charcoal locks flow out from under his helmet. In comparison to the lady
who is a recluse Lancelot is very open and engaging to the people around him.
6. What happens to the Lady? How does Lancelot react to her death? How is her death symbolic?
The Lady finally breaks her chains, the loneliness too much for her

Guilt In Murakami s The Seventh Man
Guilt is a power that can destroy us. It stays with us forever, but eventually we all must forgive
ourselves. In Haruki Murakami s The Seventh Man , the death of the main character s best friend
plagues him. This survivor guilt eats away at the Seventh Man until there is very little left. In order to
move on with his life, the Seventh Man must forgive himself.
What is survivor guilt exactly? Survivor guilt is the feeling of responsibility survivors of disasters get
when their comrades die and not them. Though it is rarely directly their fault, survivors of these
disasters are ridden with guilt. The thoughts of the fact that they could have done something stays with
them for a very long time, ...the idea that a person could have done something ... Show more content

rose up behind K. to block out the sky. K. looked at me for a few seconds, uncomprehending. Then, as
if sensing something, he turned towards the wave. He tried to run, but now there was no time to run.
In the next instant, the wave had swallowed him. (Paragraph 31, The Seventh Man ). The guilt
consumed the Seventh Man as fast as the wave had consumed his best friend, K. The events of this
disaster ate away at the Seventh Man until nothing was left. He blamed himself for not saving K. The

Byron Vs Poe
Poe and Byron are masterful at using vivid descriptive language to develop the elements of Gothic
literature and instill a sense of fear in the reader. Poe and Byron both used a dark, creepy setting in
their novels. Poe had his story set in a crypt, and Byron had his story set in a dungeon. Both of the
novels had at least one individual chained up in a deep, isolated, underground structure. In The Cask
of Amontillado Monstresor buried up his lifelong rival while he was chained up to a wall screaming,
and thrashing the chains he was on. In The Prisoner of Chillon it is three silent prisoners chained up
on a column in a dungeon where they couldn t see each other, or move at all. One example of Gothic

The History And Transitions Of Music
The history and transitions of music has had many talented persons that have influenced music but
none are so well known as Franz Joseph Haydn, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Ludwig van
Beethoven. All three of these great composers performed during the Classic period and it would act as
the base of classic music for the next one hundred and fifty, to two hundred years. The names of
Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven are so well known that people who have little to no knowledge of
music will recognize their names. The urban communities of Austria and Germany would find the
settings from 1750 1820 that would become known as the classical period. The Classic period had
many developments such as the sonata, symphony and string quartet along with a growth of opera
houses and concert halls were abundant during the classical period. The Golden Age will later refer to
this time of classical music. The works of Franz Joseph Hayden, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and
Ludwig van Beethoven will be everlasting in the world of classical music. There are many opinions of
the three big composers that do not include Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven, furthermore everyone is
entitled to their own opinion.
Franz Joseph Haydn was born in Austria March 31st 1732 and died May 31st 1809 at age seventy
seven. Haydn s parents who neither one could read music but his father had been a folk musician had
noticed his son had a musical talent. They arranged for him to start apprenticing to Johann Mathis

If the share issue is fully subscribed, the underwriter will collect the commission and not have to do
anything. 4. If a share issue is oversubscribed, what action can be taken in relation to excess money
received on application? Excess monies received on application for shares will be refunded to the
applicant. However where shares are issued on a partly paid basis, the excess can be used as an offset
in reducing allotment money due and in payment of any future calls, provided the company s
constitution and the terms of the prospectus allow for this treatment. 5. When can a company forfeit its
shares? What happens to money already paid by the holder of those shares? A company can forfeit its
shares provided the rules for forfeiture are in the company s constitution. The rules usually specify
that shares would be forfeited for non payment of calls. Where shares are forfeited, the company can,
depending on the constitution, retain the funds already paid on the forfeited shares in which case the
Forfeited Shares account will be considered a reserve and part of equity. Alternatively, the forfeited
shares can be reissued and the amount received, less the costs of forfeiture and reissue of shares, may
then be refunded to the former shareholders. In this case, the Forfeited Shares account is a liability. 6.
How should a company account for the legal costs of formation? Should the accounting treatment be

The Issue Of Offshore Jurisdictions
Introduction
At first glance, the legislation in offshore jurisdictions makes the repatriation of assets seemingly
impossible, providing the impossibility defence for debtors unwilling to relinquish assets owed to
creditors. Offshore jurisdictions may use clever tactics such as duress and flight clauses to make
repatriation of the assets in protection trusts difficult, but onshore jurisdictions are not to be fooled; the
court will either declare the trust a sham, void the transaction, threaten professional negligence against
the attorney or hold the settlor in contempt until compliance. As long as the debtor is physically
residing in the onshore jurisdiction and subject to the laws of that nation, the court can effectively
through coercive means attempt to repatriate the assets from the trust.
Sham Trusts
In Snook v London and West Riding Investments Ltd [1967] 2 QB 786, 802, Lord Diplock defined
sham as, acts done or documents executed by the parties to the sham which are intended by them to
give to third parties or to the court the appearance of creating between the parties legal rights and
obligations different from the actual legal rights and obligations (if any) which the parties intend to
create. But one thing, I think, is clear in legal principle, morality and the authorities ... that for acts or
documents to be a sham with whatever legal consequences follow from this, all the parties thereto
must have a common intention that the acts or documents are not

The yellow star, inscribed with the word Jude ( Jew in German), has become a symbol of Nazi
persecution. Its likeness abounds upon Holocaust literature and materials. But the Jewish badge was
not instituted in 1933 when Hitler came to power. It was not instituted in 1935 when the Nuremberg
Laws stripped Jews of their citizenship. It was still not implemented by Kristallnacht in 1938. The
oppression and labeling of the Jews by use of the Jewish badge did not begin until after the start of the
Second World War.And even then, it began as local laws rather than as a unified Nazi policy. The

In 1781, Joseph II of Austria made major torrents into the use of a badge with his Edict of Tolerance
and many other countries discontinued their use of badges very late in the eighteenth century. The first
reference to a Jewish badge during the Nazi era was made by the German Zionist leader, Robert
Weltsch. During the Nazi declared boycott upon Jewish stores on April 1, 1933, yellow Stars of David
were painted on windows. In reaction to this, Weltsch wrote an article entitled Tragt ihn mit Stolz, den

time, Jewish badges had yet even to be discussed among the top Nazis. It is believed that the first time
that the implementation of a Jewish badge was discussed among the Nazi leaders was right after
Kristallnacht in 1938. At a meeting on November 12, 1938, Reinhard Heydrich made the first

The credit system of the country had ceased to operate, and thousands of firms went into bankruptcy
(Born...,.12). Something had to be done that would provide for a flexible amount of currency as well
as provide cohesion between banks across the United States. (Hepburn, 399) This knight in shining
armor, as described in the story of the bank run, was the Federal Reserve. The Federal Reserve Act of
1913 helped to establish banks as a united force working for the people instead of independent
agencies working against each other. By providing a flexible amount of currency, banks did not have
to hoard their money in fear of a bank run. Because of this, there was no competitive edge to see who
could keep the most currency on hand and a more expansionary economy was possible.
The evolution of the Federal Reserve did not begin on December 23, 1913 with the passage of the
Federal Reserve Act. Rather, it began with the Banking Panic of 1907, the most severe of the four
national banking panics that had occurred in the precious thirty four years.
In response to this panic, a committee was established to find the flaws of the current banking system.
This committee, the National Monetary Commission, found there were two main flaws dominating the
system. First, the currency was not responsive to changes in demand. (Born...13). This meant that the
bank had a fixed amount of currency, regardless of the

WWSMB spending on ICT has risen steadily; there is clear shift to hosted and remotely managed

spending in cloud solutions. Markets like Asia pacific and Latin America are adopting the new
technology shift at a very rapid rate. Cloud solutions are expected to grow at CAGR of over 25% in
Asia Pacific and Latin America at a CAGR of 21%. But mature markets still hold a major chunk of the
cloud related spending. According to a report by AMI Partners of 2014, $7 out of every $10 spent on

Pacific markets. There is mix of niche and multi industry could vendors in the market. One example of
a niche industry focused solution is Veeva, a provider of cloud based solution for medical

Happy Gilmore Character Analysis
Happy Gilmore is a comedic 90 s movie about the transition from an ineffective hockey player to a
talented golfer. This is a 1996 film, Adam Sandler, who portrays Happy Gilmore faces few obstacles
when learning how to play golf. The reason why he joins a golf tournament was that he needed the
money to save his grandmother s house. His grandmother has not pay taxes for past 10 years so she
owed $270,00 otherwise her home would be lost. Happy Gilmore is a naĂŻve and absurd character that
struggles with anger issues but later learns how to deal with it through dumb childish humor.
Throughout the golf tournament, he has a nemesis, Shooter Mcgavin, who is arrogant that gets jealous
at Happy Gilmore for his hidden talent at golf. Although Gilmore has serious anger issues, his
patience and dedication teach the audience that one s passion is not always something one is good at.
One of the eye catching concepts that are hard to miss is Happy s aggression in sports. He is either
yelling, cursing, fighting or attacking someone throughout this film. At the beginning of the film when
he was trying out for the hockey team, there is a scene where he loses his temper. He didn t make the
team so he attacked the coach for being cut. Then there is the scene when he is mad at his girlfriend so
he yells at her but then changes to innocent sad boyfriend voice and just kept switching off between
those two personas. This was very interesting to watch because he was two different characters since

attitude of humans with distinct differences, but are one people who work together embracing our

is like to be on a goat farm in China. She displays her surroundings to provide her experience. The
poem begins with her description of the icy climate suggesting that life is full of hardship for the
goats. This cold air is harmful to the goats, and they warm bodies pressing, must work together for
survival. The warmness of the goats exemplifies human characteristics of trust, nurturing, and

Naomi continues to develop her poem by talking about a water tank. The tank develops the idea that
she is on a farm. This farm is a dangerous place for them because there is no shelter from the icy
winds that torment these goats. She continues clarifying the actions of the goats saying, little ones
toward bulkier ones. This shows us again that the goats need each other for the survival of their herd.
She hopes that the goats will find the brush , another type of home for the goats, yet brush is different
for the goats because it is covered, and protects them from the ice. The brush resembles the human
characteristics of safety, shelter, and comfort. Another frigid night swooping down, reestablishes the
harsh reality of the suffering of the goats. Naomi

in the kitchen and taking care of their husbands. Throughout this time period it was more important
for women marry a man than it was to attend college and be educated. Some women had college
degrees and still chose to be housewives. At the time even secondary schools prepared young girls for
this type of role; lessons were given in cookery, household management, darning, sewing and even
how to iron a shirt properly. Women were prepared to take on the housewife role both at school and at
home; housewives did not have a career so they depended on their husband. Sexism was rampant
during this era; the attitude carried over into advertising, which did little to advance gender roles and
ran advertisements that implied women were idiots who cared mostly about pleasing their men.
Advertisements often implied that women were only useful in kitchen, cooking and taking care of the
kids. Image A displays a women in the kitchen looking outside the kitchen window at her husband
with her daughter. The kitchen is portrayed with light white, yellow, and beige colors. The
advertisement has a caption placed at the bottom and it states, Women don t leave the kitchen! The
caption was the quote in a big font and then in a smaller font it talks about how a woman s place is in
the kitchen. The purpose

Victorian Societies Terrible Treatment of Poor Children...
Victorian Societies Terrible Treatment of Poor Children in Charles Dickens Oliver Twist
Charles Dickens wrote the novel Oliver Twist as a way of expressing his views on how the rich treated
the poor, and how he felt about the laws regarding the poor.
Charles Dickens lived in the 19th century when there was a social divide of the upper and lower class
citizens. The poor lived in: cramped, dirty and smelly conditions with no chance of money or
improved living conditions with a half decent life; whereas the upper class had total luxury with
everything done for them. This was mainly due to the industrialisation of London where parts of
Londonwas transformed into business areas, which made the ... Show more content on

Oliver was born in a small room moment before him mum passed away with a little baby with no
name in her arms. The careless attitude of those in authority is shown by the character of Mrs Mann.
She uses dire punishments such as locking the boys in the dark coal cellar . Oliver is even locked up
on his ninth birthday with a select party of two other young gentlemen . Here Dickens uses sarcasm to
emphasise the carelessness of those who worked with the children. The children mainly die of natural
causes, but Mrs Mann makes no effort at all to keep them alive.
The Board doesn t care about the boys in the workhouse, all they care about is themselves and
Dickens shows this by them always being seen round a big table full of food when there is a little half
starved boy right in front of it. Oliver was sent to pick open after a Board member said I know that
boy will be hung . In the workhouse the conditions are very poor, they work long hours and are
starved, all to save money and to put people off the idea of going there. The terrible conditions of the
workhouse are shown when Oliver asks for more gruel. Please, sir, I want some more. Dickens uses
exaggeration, and even a little bit of humour to for this part of the book. What seems to be a
reasonable, polite question from a growing boy is shown as a major insult and offence to authority.
But being a small innocent boy,

Compare the Way Poets Present Relationships in The...
Compare the way poets present relationships in The Farmer s Bride and The Manhunt .
In Charlotte Mew s The Farmer s Bride and Simon Armitage s The Manhunt , difficult relationships
are presented by speakers who are dealing with an emotionally closed partner. Both poems explore
how relationships are affected by mental health issues.
In The Farmer s Bride , the Farmer marries a girl without getting to know her. As the marriage
progresses, the wife s mental illness gradually develops at first she turn[s] afraid , until she tries to run
away, and will only speak to animals. This causes the farmer to become jealous, impatient and
possibly mentally unstable. In the fourth stanza, the farmer describes his wife as she is to nature ...

Even though the woman has not been to war herself, she puts in effort to try and understand her
partner s pain. His grazed heart is no longer whole, but not injured to the point of no return the woman
is trying to fix her partner. The word grazed could also represent a physical injury however the
majority of her partner s injuries are buried deep in his mind for example, his Post Traumatic Stress
Disorder, which caused every nerve in his body to [tighten] this reiterates how he is emotionally
closed. The fact that the wounds are buried suggests that they are hidden and harder to get at.
However, in the last line, the woman states that she had come close to rebuilding their relationship her
efforts, although long winded, are working.
Simon Armitage repeats the phrase only then five times throughout The Manhunt . This emphasises
how difficult it is to recover a relationship when your partner has changed in this instance, due to Post
Traumatic Stress Disorder. He also juxtaposes the phrases passionate nights and intimate days . This
suggests that the love was not just physical but also emotional. The main technique Armitage uses,
however, is imagery to suggest fragility. His collarbone is described as damaged, porcelain and his
punctured lung as parachute silk the silk also suggesting luxury, and the parachute representative of
how he was injured in the army. In the tenth stanza, the bullet in his chest is described as a

Currently, there are two major of database management systems which are used to deal with data, the
first one called Relational Database Management System (RDBMS) which is the traditional relational
databases, it deals with structured data and have been popular since decades from 1970, while the

Employment For a contract to be legally binding, agreements between two parties or more is

acceptance, consideration and intention. Within employment it is vital that employers have contracts
intact between them and their employees. The party making the offer are known as the offeror and the
party who the offer has been made to is known as the offeree. Once a contract is made and it s
established as being valid, damages can be claimed for if there has been a breach in the contract. There
are a number of elements that need to be in place in order for a contract to be valid. Where the element
of offer comes into action is when an individual expresses an action to enter an agreement with
another party on the basis on certain principles and elements. Where an employment circumstance is
concerned, an offer would be proposed by an employer however in certain situations an offer could be
placed forward by an employee. Amid this period it s likely that another offer would be made by one
of the parties involved. At this time additional terms would be discussed and evaluated among the
parties involved. Once a new offer is placed the original offer would be cancelled. Acceptance is
another vital part of the contract. It is essential that acceptance is the unconditional acceptance of all
the elements

I Am The Researcher For A Production Company And I Have I am the researcher for a production company and I have been asked to produce an individual research which will be based on analysing and investigating the TV and Film industries. I will be using different case studies to explore ownership and funding in the media industry as it will help me understand what the TV and film industry is, how it works and how ownership and funding relate to the industry. I will be using many different case studies involving several companies. A few companies I will be researching are: News Corp , Viacom , Disney and Universal. I will also be researching on other companies such as the BBC. The TV and film industry is made up of a list of different companies that operate differently and are funded ... Private Companies are companies that are either owned by non governmental organizations or by a relatively small number of shareholders or company members which does not offer or trade its company stock (shares) to the general public on the stock market exchanges, but rather the company s stock is offered, owned and traded or exchanged privately (Google). Private companies are very similar to independent companies; the only real difference is that private companies can choose their shareholders. Private companies don t need to meet the strict exchange commission requirements that public companies have to, like having to give a certain percentage of their income to the government. Independent companies are companies which work on their own; they can make decision on their own and are free of influence by government or corporate interests. Independent companies are different to subsidiaries as Independent companies are not owned by any conglomerate. An advantage of an independent company is that all the money the company makes is its own profit instead of being shared with other companies. A disadvantage of an independent media company is that they often find it difficult to survive against competition from bigger companies that are owned by conglomerates as they are better known, which reduces their source of income resulting in bankruptcy. Although if an independent media company is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

And once in a rare, whimsical while I succeed. For a brief, passing moment I will believe that carousels can come to life, and unicorns with wings will carry me to the other side of the sun. That miracles will happen, and all dreams can come true. It is a lovely daydream that I always wish could remain just a little while longer. A beautiful daydream too fragile to withstand even the gentlest sigh. Do you know what I love? Of course you don t. I love the incongruent. I love men s clothes on women. Flowing, antique dresses and combat boots. It is unexpected. But not unpleasant. That is not all I love, but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I think it would be like living in a Monet painting, were he ever to paint the city. I walk for a while along the strange streets of this puzzle, eventually wandering purposefully into the cavernous, cool, silent vacuum of a beautiful, small, wonderfully ornate church on the upper east side. The church of the Holy Trinity. Instantly I am certain I have gone deaf. It is the one place I have been where the silence is so loud you can hear it. The complete and total lack of sound. The silence is so strong, so dominating I cannot even hear myself breathing. I am nothing. Sweet, perfect nothing. I feel I have gone back in time. The stone walls and rising wooden beams reach impossibly far into the vault of the ceiling. There is none there but I. Alone. And yet, there is such an intense sense of fullness. I am afraid to take a step for fear the sound of my boot on the floor will shatter the very air. I try to breathe deeper than my lungs, take that silence directly into my body so that I might carry it around with me. So that as long as there is Holly, there is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. John Coltrane Essay John Coltrane John Coltrane Jazz, taking its roots in African American folk music, has evolved, metamorphosed, and transposed itself over the last century to become a truly American art form. More than any other type of music, it places special emphasis on innovative individual interpretation. Instead of relying on a written score, the musician improvises. For each specific period or style through which jazz has gone through over the past seventy years, there is almost always a single person who can be credited with the evolution of that sound. From Thelonius Monk, and his bebop, to Miles Davis cool jazz, from Dizzy Gillespie s big band to John Coltrane s free jazz; America s music has been developed, and refined countless times ... After graduating from high school in High Point, he moved to Philadelphia in 1943, where he lived in a small one room apartment and worked as a laborer in a sugar refinery. For a year, Coltrane attended Ornstein School of Music. Then in 1945, he was drafted into the Navy and sent to Hawaii where he was assigned to play clarinet in a band called the Melody Makers. Upon his return from Hawaii a year later, Coltrane launched his music career. With all those years of constant practice in High Point behind him, possessing a powerful inner strength from being raised in a deeply religious family, and with a foundation in musical theory and an innate curiosity about life, Coltrane was well prepared to seriously enter a battle. In the late nineteen forties, Coltrane began playing with several different R B groups in small bars and clubs around Philadelphia. It became a tradition in many of the clubs at this time for musicians to walk the bar (i.e. to walk on top of the bar while playing one s instrument). Coltrane was ashamed of having to go through this display every night. To any serious musician, it was an incredibly humiliating experience to someone like Coltrane, who was developing a type of religious fervor for his music, it was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. The First Arduino Essay The first Arduino was introduced in 2005, aiming to provide a low cost, easy way for novices and professionals to create devices that interact with their environment using sensors and actuators. Common examples of such devices intended for beginner hobbyists include simple robots, thermostats, and motion detectors. Arduino boards are available commercially in preassembled form, or as do it yourself kits. The hardware design specifications are openly available, allowing the Arduino boards to be produced by anyone. Adafruit Industries estimated in mid 2011 that over 300,000 official Arduinos had been commercially produced, and in 2013 that 700,000 official boards were in users hands. Hardware: An Arduino board consists of an Atmel 8 , 16 or 32 bit AVR microcontroller (although since 2015 other makers microcontrollers have been used) with complementary components that facilitate programming and incorporation into other circuits. An important aspect of the Arduino is its standard connectors, which let users connect the CPU board to a variety of interchangeable add on modules termed shields. Some shields communicate with the Arduino board directly over various pins, but many shields are individually addressable via an I²C serial bus so many shields can be stacked and used in parallel. Before 2015, Official Arduinos had used the Atmel mega AVR series of chips, specifically the ATmega8, ATmega168, ATmega328, ATmega1280, and ATmega2560. In 2015, units by other producers were ... It was during this time in Mainz, Germany that a goldsmith s Johannes Gutenberg created one of the most important machines during the modern period: the printing press. The printing press was inspired by earlier uses found in China and Japan as early as the 7th century. In this time the way to print was using the method of block printing, which was a piece of wood used to print a specific piece of text. Also there are some patterns based on how the human mind processes pattern, objects, and information. ( User Interface ) Scroll bars when information on a page exceeds the viewport, a scroll bar control may be required to access the additional information. Scrolling of information should almost always occur along one axis, except in rare cases. ( Patterns for ) The problem can be more information in the page or element than can fit in the viewport. You have to provide a method to access this information. The solution for mobiles will be to display them to indicate the scrollable axes, and the relative position within the scrollable area. Whenever possible, you should make sure scrolling takes place on a single axis. This is why the whole set of patterns based around vertical scroll exist. When the situation demands, such as for zooming in to content which otherwise fits the area, you can also offer a secondary scroll axis. • 8. Effects Of The Media On Society Chapter 3: Effects of the Media Though war contributed to changes in society, the media was the driving factor behind changes including the fixation with beauty among women. Magazines had the ability to perpetuate the already emerging ideals. The idea of self improvement became a very popular topic in the 1920s seen across all women s magazines, contributing to the progression from the middle class women to the New Woman. This New Woman was one of beauty and fun with admiration and lasting popularity as stated in International Women s News magazine, promoting fragrances that made such claims. The emergence of products and methods to attain the arising beauty standards fared well in combination with advertising that enforced fears and vanity associated with such. Change in Beauty Standards: Topic sentence? Products such as reducing belts and slimming baths were advertised to reduce body weight. With more leisure time after production and integration of automated machines (is this supporting opposition?) books and magazines were in every household. The best seller diet book written by Dr. Lulu Hunt Peter, Diet and Health, the Key to Calories, was popularized as the body image of women was brought to the forefront of their minds. This idea known as scientific homemaking was used by advertisers to convince women of how they should feel, and thus change their consumerism habits. A short short contains only one of the characters. In the dog chase scene they used lots of film technique such as medium shot low angle and high angle. The medium shot is a general, all purpose shot. Medium shots are used for dialogue sequences, and they allow the viewer to pick up on the character s movements and gestures. Body language is important to conveying emotion, and the medium shot remains close enough to capture that emotion. The dog chase scene is about when the four boys stop at the junkyard to get some water and Gordie is made to go to the shops to get some food and drinks. The Little Mermaid Comparison Hans Christian Anderson s 1975 rendition of The Little Mermaid borrows heavily from the themes and story of the 1960 s version of the animation with the same name. Traditionally, the Soyuzmultfilm was a tool for advancing Soviet propaganda. The animation studio was founded when Russian politics was dominated by communism propaganda. The authorities wanted to send information to their recognizable enemies, who were fascists, imperialists, and capitalists. However, it is difficult to understand the reason the little mermaid desires to depart the underwater world seeing how she lives like royalty. • 11. Economic Policy of President Woodrow Wilson Essay examples nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp;Woodrow Wilson, as the 28th President of the United States, enacted some of the most sweeping economic overhauls the American government has ever seen. The Professor President , by compromising and cutting deals, was able to bring to life his vision of reform in the business world. The Underwood Simmons bill, the Federal Reserve Act, the Federal Trade Commission Act and the Clayton Anti Trust Act were all brought about by Wilson as tools to further his goal of taking away power from the large corporations and banks and giving it to the small businesses and entrepreneurs. nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp;First, Wilson enacted the Underwood Simmons bill in 1913. In order to offset the loss in revenue, he put into place the income tax, which the nation had been pushing for but until the passing of an amendment that year, had been ruled unconstitutional. Wilson wanted to relieve the nation of the burden of tariffs, but still realized the importance of government revenue. In addition to government finance, the progressive income tax helped shift the burden off the poor and onto those more able to foot the bill of taxation. The fact that Wilson was able to pass such a tax says something about his relative innocence in respect to affiliation with corporate interest groups. Coming into politics from the world of academia, he had not formed connections with special interests that most career politicians had and thus was able to relate more to the constituents he had left only a few years before his Presidential campaign. nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp;In the same year that the Underwood Simmons bill had passed, his first year as President, Wilson was also able to get the Federal Reserve Act through Congress. • 12. The Obligatory Elements For Establishing Fraudulent... The following essay will discuss the obligatory elements for establishing fraudulent misrepresentation. This explicit area of business law is reinforced by precedent cases which encapsulate and clarify the elements required to establish an argument for damages based on fraudulent misrepresentation. In light of this, the essay will argue in favour of Bob Wheelie, with support of relevant case law, that the reckless actions of Mr Spokes constitute the grounds for an action for fraud and damages to the other party (Bob Wheelie). The sufficient evidence validates that: Mr Spokes held prior knowledge about the business claiming a false statement of fact; Mr Spokes provided the statement in order to induce Bob into entering the contract; Mr Spokes employed the use of misrepresentation knowing that such representation was false and would cause detrimental repercussions; and as a result Bob Wheelie suffered economic loss. Therefore, these findings indicate that Bob Wheelie can claim damages against Mr Spokes on the basis of fraudulent misrepresentation. The statutory prohibition of misleading or deceptive conduct under section 18(1) of the Australian Consumer Law provides: A person must not, in trade or commerce, engage in conduct that is misleading or deceptive or is likely to mislead or deceive. The grounds of fraudulent misrepresentation were established in the case of Derry v Peek (1889) 14 App Cas 337 . Lord Herschell stated that fraudulent misrepresentation arises when a ... This is because it saw various significant revolutionary movements take place that gave way to the complex modern world. These revolutions took place in different regions in Europe and across America. Some of the revolutions include: American Revolution, the Haitian Revolution, the revolt of the slaves in Latin America, the Greek Revolution, the French Revolution, and the independence movements of nations in Latin America. These revolutions are considered to have impacted the world as they changed different aspects of society including social setup, political aspects and the economic set up of the world (Matson, 2005). The term modernization refers to the transformation or change of a society from a rural and agrarian position to a more urban, secular and industrial position. • 14. Effects Of Stigma On African Americans Social stigma is defined as the censure of, or dissatisfaction with, a person due to a physical, social, or psychological feature(s) that differentiates that individual from the cultural norm (Goffman, 1963). Being accepted by others is considered an essential human need, being ostracized or marginalized can be psychologically deleterious for the stigmatized individual (Goffman, 1963). Dating back to our caveman days, stigma has a profound impact on people s mental and physical health in a variety of populations, as well as their fight for survival in the wild (e.g., the effect of racism on African Americans: (Voelkl et al 1991). In addition to overt stigmas, such as those attached to an individual s race and gender, there are also stigmas that are attached to less apparent, concealable identities, such as those attached to an individual s sexual orientation, mental illness and so on (Pachankis, 2007). In a culture that exalts motherhood to the highest conceivable honor a woman can achieve there is a group of people that are only recently talked about that are stigmatized they are women who do not have children the childless or child free women. In traditional societies, the childless woman was marked in some sense as having failed in satisfying a fundamental female function bearing children. They had abundant amounts of money, as well as bragging rights to do as they please. One of the most prominent themes in The Great Gatsby is the social class conflicts in the 1920s. F. Scott Fitzgerald portrays this through rich versus poor conflicts, as well as through Old Money versus New Money conflicts. In this novel, rich are treated significantly different from the poor. The first time the reader really sees this conflict is when Daisy makes fun of their butler. As if spreading gossip, Daisy bluntly asks, Do you want to hear about the butler (Fitzgerald pg17)? As a result of the social status difference, Myrtle has no right to speak about Daisy because she is so far below her. This issue becomes present at the end of chapter 3 when Myrtle, out of spite and ignorance, begins to shout Daisy s name. Tom is the most dominant character throughout the novel, and with one swift upward motion broke her nose with his open hand (Fitzgerald pg41). Tom believes his actions were acceptable because Myrtle was speaking out of place. • 16. Catapults Research Paper Cooper Crosby P.4 2/26/17 Catapults The physics behind a catapult can be a complex topic to grasp. But, when broken down, looking individually at their historical uses, design types, and related physics concepts, it s surprisingly simple to form an opinion on which catapult design is most effective and why. These categories, when combined, define the uses, functionality, and effectiveness of the historical (and modern day) catapult. Catapults were originally developed in 399 B.C, and had derived their shooting power from springs, twisted bundles of cords, or heavier weighted cords. When the twisted ropes on these catapults were released, a stone weighing around 50 pounds could be launched the length of four football fields, though some of the largest catapults could throw stones up to 600 pounds, and some of the smaller models were used to launch flaming arrows at foes (Jason Richie, Designing the Tools of War). Catapults, you see, were used for a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The ballista is also a very viable option, but I truly believe the trebuchet is the way to go, and let me explain why. First, the transfer of energy that occurs when the weight is dropped, should allow the projectile to launch quickly and have significantly more force, which is important when hitting the intended target. Second, a trebuchet was originally used more than the basic catapult, and far preferred, due to its greater range capabilities and improved accuracy. The mechanical advantage of dropping the counterweight to lift the beam, allows the payload to achieve a higher velocity, which creates a faster more efficient catapult. There are many other types of catapults that use different physics methods to achieve high speed and a strong force, but between the more complicated structures and the varied intentions for uses when being built, each other model performs tasks differently. Would you be more thankful for the life you have and the skin you live in? The environment, food, and habits are different for everyone depending on where they live in the world. Americans have the ability to see the flexibility in these components, but other countries can not afford to change these factors to benefit their skin. The skin is the largest organ of the body, the Sudanese and American families must be able to promote a healthy lifestyle to maintain and enhance their skin. African Americans have learned to adapt to the different environments all around the world and how the affects of their lifestyles change their bodies. African American skin adapts to climate differently than those of white decent. For instance, African Americans have naturally oily skin, when they move to weather with harsher temperature factors like the sun and weather patterns can cause them to have skin problems. Cold weather causes their skin to crack and discolor because they are meant to have oily skin and are able to adapt to warmer climates better than others (Aretha C Smith) (William Robertson Boggs). The environment and healthy foods both contribute to healthy skin. The Earth only has 3% of fresh water and we only have access to about 1% of it. We currently have an increasing population which makes it more important than ever to conserve our water supply. Most of the water we have access to is either wasted or polluted. We need to take action to help conserve the water we use today! Water is the most important substance to sustain human life. Water makes up to 60 percent of the human body. We can survive roughly up to 7 8 days without water. The characters are revealed with a long introduction into the people we are about to meet. The Lady of Shalott shows depth of personality and she is a fully developed character. 2. Describe the setting of the poem. Remember to comment on both the island and the surrounding countryside, and on the time in which the poem is set. How essential is the setting to the poem? There is a river that runs between Shalott and Camelot. There is wheat and barley that covers an open area of land. There is a well traveled road that leads to Camelot, there are willow trees and aspen trees. There are four grey towers and four grey walls that surround the Lady inside. 3. Why is the mirror so important to her? Do you think the mirror might have any symbolic significance? If so, what? The mirror is in her connection to the outside world. She sees all the people who travel the road. The significance of the mirror is that while it does give her the ability to see the outside world, the images are dark and unrecognizable. What I take from this is that in her solitude, she is still unable to make connections with people even through a magic mirror. 4. What is the curse that lies upon the Lady? Does she know what the curse is? The nature of the curse that was laid upon the lady was never fully discussed. The basic concept of the curse is that if she stops weaving her magic web then the curse could possibly kill her 5. How is Lancelot described in the poem? Look at the words used to describe him. What does this suggest about his character? In what way is he a contrast to the Lady of Shalott? His shield has a red cross knight kneeling before his lady, his horse bridle is filled with jewels, and bells he has a specially decorated, belt across his shoulder and carrying a silver bugle. His forehead glows in the sunlight, his charcoal locks flow out from under his helmet. In comparison to the lady who is a recluse Lancelot is very open and engaging to the people around him. 6. • 31. The Issue Of Offshore Jurisdictions Introduction At first glance, the legislation in offshore jurisdictions makes the repatriation of assets seemingly impossible, providing the impossibility defence for debtors unwilling to relinquish assets owed to creditors. Offshore jurisdictions may use clever tactics such as duress and flight clauses to make repatriation of the assets in protection trusts difficult, but onshore jurisdictions are not to be fooled; the court will either declare the trust a sham, void the transaction, threaten professional negligence against the attorney or hold the settlor in contempt until compliance. As long as the debtor is physically residing in the onshore jurisdiction and subject to the laws of that nation, the court can effectively through coercive means attempt to repatriate the assets from the trust. Sham Trusts In Snook v London and West Riding Investments Ltd [1967] 2 QB 786, 802, Lord Diplock defined sham as, acts done or documents executed by the parties to the sham which are intended by them to give to third parties or to the court the appearance of creating between the parties legal rights and obligations different from the actual legal rights and obligations (if any) which the parties intend to create. Something had to be done that would provide for a flexible amount of currency as well as provide cohesion between banks across the United States. (Hepburn, 399) This knight in shining armor, as described in the story of the bank run, was the Federal Reserve. The Federal Reserve Act of 1913 helped to establish banks as a united force working for the people instead of independent agencies working against each other. By providing a flexible amount of currency, banks did not have to hoard their money in fear of a bank run. Because of this, there was no competitive edge to see who could keep the most currency on hand and a more expansionary economy was possible. The evolution of the Federal Reserve did not begin on December 23, 1913 with the passage of the Federal Reserve Act. • 37. Happy Gilmore Character Analysis Happy Gilmore is a comedic 90 s movie about the transition from an ineffective hockey player to a talented golfer. This is a 1996 film, Adam Sandler, who portrays Happy Gilmore faces few obstacles when learning how to play golf. The reason why he joins a golf tournament was that he needed the money to save his grandmother s house. His grandmother has not pay taxes for past 10 years so she owed $270,00 otherwise her home would be lost. Happy Gilmore is a naĂŻve and absurd character that struggles with anger issues but later learns how to deal with it through dumb childish humor. Throughout the golf tournament, he has a nemesis, Shooter Mcgavin, who is arrogant that gets jealous at Happy Gilmore for his hidden talent at golf. Although Gilmore has serious anger issues, his patience and dedication teach the audience that one s passion is not always something one is good at. One of the eye catching concepts that are hard to miss is Happy s aggression in sports. He is either yelling, cursing, fighting or attacking someone throughout this film. At the beginning of the film when he was trying out for the hockey team, there is a scene where he loses his temper. He didn t make the team so he attacked the coach for being cut. Then there is the scene when he is mad at his girlfriend so he yells at her but then changes to innocent sad boyfriend voice and just kept switching off between those two personas. • 40. Gender Role In Men And Women In The 1960 s During the 1950 s 1960 s men and women followed strict gender roles that complied with society s expectation at the time. Women played domestic roles in which it was implied they were only useful in the kitchen and taking care of their husbands. At the time even secondary schools prepared young girls for this type of role; lessons were given in cookery, household management, darning, sewing and even how to iron a shirt properly. Women were prepared to take on the housewife role both at school and at home; housewives did not have a career so they depended on their husband. Sexism was rampant during this era; the attitude carried over into advertising, which did little to advance gender roles and ran advertisements that implied women were idiots who cared mostly about pleasing their men. Victorian Societies Terrible Treatment of Poor Children in Charles Dickens Oliver Twist Charles Dickens wrote the novel Oliver Twist as a way of expressing his views on how the rich treated the poor, and how he felt about the laws regarding the poor. Charles Dickens lived in the 19th century when there was a social divide of the upper and lower class citizens. The poor lived in: cramped, dirty and smelly conditions with no chance of money or improved living conditions with a half decent life; whereas the upper class had total luxury with everything done for them. Oliver was born in a small room moment before him mum passed away with a little baby with no name in her arms. The careless attitude of those in authority is shown by the character of Mrs Mann. She uses dire punishments such as locking the boys in the dark coal cellar . Oliver is even locked up on his ninth birthday with a select party of two other young gentlemen . Here Dickens uses sarcasm to emphasise the carelessness of those who worked with the children. The children mainly die of natural causes, but Mrs Mann makes no effort at all to keep them alive. The Board doesn t care about the boys in the workhouse, all they care about is themselves and Dickens shows this by them always being seen round a big table full of food when there is a little half starved boy right in front of it. Oliver was sent to pick open after a Board member said I know that boy will be hung . In the workhouse the conditions are very poor, they work long hours and are starved, all to save money and to put people off the idea of going there. The terrible conditions of the workhouse are shown when Oliver asks for more gruel. Please, sir, I want some more. Dickens uses exaggeration, and even a little bit of humour to for this part of the book. What seems to be a reasonable, polite question from a growing boy is shown as a major insult and offence to authority. But being a small innocent boy, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
