Comparing Shakespeare s Macbeth And Shakesperes Plays
Generally speaking the mind can react differently to the same prompt due to the structure which it was
formed from. Physcologists say there are ways to trick the mind into seeing or feeling a certain way.
Consequently, how people percieve an act changes depending how it was performed. Whereas
Shakesperes plays brought about an emotional appeal to the readers. Granted , in society today it has
become more complex yet easier to make an act retrieve an emotional response from watchers or
readers. Futhurmore, Willamson and Stewart both perform the same scene from Act 2 Scene 1 of
William Shakespeare s play Macbeth
; yet their setting, sound effects, tone and apparence differ. Admittedly, scenary sets the tone for any
movie, play, book etc. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Particularly, Stewarts background sound is simialr to a heart beat; one can hear the swishing sound of
the blood pumping in and out of the heart. The heartbeat is a key componet in the effectness of
Stewarts version, leaving room for many possible reasons behind it. Consequently , the heart beat
could be representation of Stewarts own heart racing before commiting the deed ahead. Also at the end
of this verison the heart beat stops pumping and the sound stops, implying a death of somesort took
place. In addtion, Stewart uses his vocal cords to howl like a wolf; this sound effect adds to the idea
that Stewarts quest brings forth an excitment/happiness . The howl could be a symbol for a step
towards freedom for Stewart. Simiarly, Williamsons background sound is mere static. The static
embleshies Williamsons verson by adding to the idea of his mind unraveling. While the static aids in
the effeect of Williamsons tone throughout; it is especially affective towards the end of the scene. As a
rule static can be heard at the end of a call with bad reception before the call is dropped. Likewise
static in this version could represent Williamsons state of mind; thus at the closing of the scene the
static halts as Williamson procceeds to transition into complete

Essay on Globalization on New Companies and Small Buisness
When we look at international business today we can obviously notice that companies all around the
globe trying to expand their business as more as they can. When some company runs some business,
they are relatively weak at the start point. As firm passing trough the process of growing, they must
survive all the threats and traps on that road. We can say that the most risky and hardest job to do
when new company starting with some business is surviving that first period of probably a year or
two. At the start point every businessman trying to go through that process step by step, so for
example; if we plan to open some tourist agency, the first thing we gone do is, to check the geographic
area for that kind a job, of course there is no ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We can just observe the situation in Croatia, just in the last five years we can see at almost every
corner of the state bankruptcy of the Croatian biggest companies, sold to foreign investors, the
unemployment rate is on higher scale than ever before. Everything started with good promotion,
marketing, sales and similar activities. It is almost unbelievable that owns a business competition of
the biggest companies in the world now work all together, privatization of state companies are on an
unbelievable high scale, actually almost ninety percent of world biggest companies are now in the
private ownership. Acquisition is happening everywhere around us, and we must ask ourself, why is
that? The thing is that bigger company destroying small business in the way that they are annexed
them one by one. Small private, family businessman don t even got a chance to reject the offer of
some big international firm, because they can t bear on that high scale. If we observe the small state
like Croatia is, we can notice that we actually have a lot of companies that work on the international
scale like Podravka, Atlantic group, INA, RIZ, Dalekovod proizvodnja, Agrokor and much else. Of
course the number of Croatian companies has reduced to the international scale. We have three basic
reasons why companies emerging with competition or other foreign, domestic companies:
Consolidation, globalization and acquisition. We can notice that all three of them is constantly

How Is Rip Van Winkle A Hero
Rip Van Winkle is an ineffectual male hero who cannot support his farm or family. Instead of facing
the consequences of his idleness and facing his wife, who certainly makes the problem worse instead
of better, he sleeps for twenty years. Finally, he is of such an age that his idleness is excusable and
allowed. This makes him an antithesis to the American dream. He has no ambition, he does not work
hard for himself, and he does not rise above where he began. He just likes to chat and have friends. He
also sleeps through what was the defining moment of American history, and upon waking, he does not
even care. This develops him as the American anti hero, for he takes no part in the country s founding
or history. His story makes sense as more of an Old World story, one that the Dutch settlers, in their
relatively old village, can retell. The story also shows that great historical events are often less
important than the daily happenings in an individual s life. The only oppressor Rip Van Winkle cares
about having overcome is his wife. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She is constantly berating Rip Van Winkle, even though everyone else in the neighborhood adores
him. We only ever see her worst side, except for the one comment made after she has died that she
always kept the house in good order. Her criticism of her husband, if far too strong, is nevertheless
deserved. He has completely failed in his role as husband, father, and breadwinner, leaving his family
in near ruin. The husband is an extreme form of deadbeat and the wife an extreme form of nagging, a
state of affairs which appears to be a lesson and warning for Irving s male and female readers alike.
The husbands should learn to be more industrious and attentive, and the wives should learn to be less
antagonistic and more understanding lest they drive their husbands further

Definition Essay On Respect
When I was a little kid, about 8 to 9 years of age, I usually believed on anything a person said.
Specifically the time when one of my classmates said I ll give back your pencil at the end of class.
That s where trust comes in: a substantial belief in one s loyalty, truth, or ability. In fact, he never gave
it back which saddens me because the pencil he kept was actually my favorite one. It s understandable
that a pencil is cheap and easily replaceable, but that doesn t give anyone the right to keep it without
the owner s consent.
From my perspective, trust is like a vase, a nice well decorated artifact, that is highly fragile and easy
to break. Once it is destroyed it can be fixed, maybe by using tape or super glue, but the vase will

Be courteous: that s what respect is. Respect is also what brings people together, like a relationship or
a friendship of some sort. If not used it can also tear people apart. There is another form of respect too,
and that is respect for one s property. Ever heard of the term vandalism ? That term means: action
involving destruction of or damage to private or public property. This includes anything from writing
on a desk at school to stealing from 7 Eleven. It is a form of disrespect and crime. Property, whether a
friend s, the school s, or even a stranger s, should always be respected. Even if you smash a bottle on
the side walk. Be thoughtful and respect others, and you ll get that respect back. So what does respect
truly mean to me? Respect for me is a form of loving and admiring something or someone. It means
so much that it makes me open up more about my ideas on improving somethings in life, without
getting rudely interrupted or persecuted. Again with the friendship thing, it is the reason why I have
the friends that I think highly of today. Because we hand out and obtain respect from one another, as a
result, formed the our

The Large Bathers By Paul Cézanne
Modern art takes the best of artists and their art work and adapts it, adding new techniques and
personal styles of each. When one carefully analyzes different pieces of art with openness to
emotional impression and introspection it allows appreciation and pleasure towards other artists as
well as their works. This paper will provide information on the artist Paul Cézanne and his work The
Large Bathers, look into Matisse s Bonheur de Vivre (Joy of Life) and Picasso s Les Demoiselles d
Avignon. It will also discuss the influence Paul Cézanne had on the aforementioned artists upon
producing their masterpieces.

His passionate and often exasperating life and his drive for re invention fed into his prolific production
of several works of art. Les Demoiselles d Avignon is a prime example of this. Picasso s unique style
of painting followed ideas and traits from both Cezanne and Matisse. He went on to combine
characteristics of both styles and add his own personal touch to create this shattering masterpiece.
Picasso s appearance brought rivalry to Matisse and his styles and as they lived on the next few years,
they figuratively battled one another and always comparing and contrasting each other s paintings. We
can only be thankful and appreciate this art war between these two unique artists which created a
platform for future artist and individuals alike.
To conclude, the life of artistic techniques and principles have taken a drastic change from when it
began. As we saw the art work of Cezanne lived through to Matisse where it took a change, a swing
into Matisse unique style until it got Picasso where the drastic change was made. The amazing beauty
of the same piece created multiple times exerting different moods and emotions for viewers. The art
world is spectacular and understanding that enables appreciation and love for

The majority of Starbucks sales were made with company operated retail stores, but also 15% of the
sales were made by specialty operations such as selling coffee beans to hotels and airlines or revenues
from licensing agreements. Starbucks also has a joint venture with PepsiCo and an alliance with
Dreyers Grand Ice Cream with whom they introduced the Frappuchino line. In 1995, when the US
market almost reached saturation, Starbucks Coffee International was forced to concentrate on
international operations. The strategy to enter a foreign market was mainly joint venture, in some
markets they also used licensing as entry strategy. In 1995 the first joint venture was formed with
SAZABY INC. to enter the Japanese market. More Asianpacific countries and later European
countries followed. Starbucks Mission Statement: Establish Starbucks as the premier purveyor of the

Swot Analysis Of Sainsbury
Operating Profit Margin (OPM) this ratio gives the Sainsbury s management a lot of important
information about the firm profitability, mainly with respects to cost control. A high operating profit
margin means that a company has a good cost control or/ and that sales are increasing faster than
costs, which is the objective of every company.
Sainsbury s operating profit margin increased in 2014 by 0.43% to 4.21% (2013, 3.78%). This means
that every £1 of sale earns a profit of 0.0421 pence in 2014 and 0.0378 in 2013. Sainsbury s increased
in profit margin beats rival Tesco which has seen its operating profit margin at 4.14%, 3.76%
respectively. According to Sainsbury s former chief executive Justin King rise of OPM is due to 30%
increase in number of deliveries per van and 30,000 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Higher the net profit margin ratio than better. NPM are not the same as a GPM. Under GPM, fixed
costs are excluded from calculation. With, NPM ratio all costs is included to find final benefits of the
income of the business.
Sainsbury s seem to have more control of its costs in 2014 (2.99%) than it had in 2013 (2.58%),
increased by 0.41%. This indicates that Sainsbury s is more profitable. However, this situation could
change as they announced further cut prices which can lead to decrease in operating profit margin.
Profitability Analysis
The long term profitability of a company is vital for both the survivability of a company as well as the
as well as benefits received by shareholders.
Return on Capital employed (ROCE) is the primary ratio as measure of how efficient the organisation
is at generating profits from its capital. A higher ROCE indicate more efficient use of capital. ROCE
should always be higher than the rate at which company borrows otherwise any increase in
borrowings will reduce shareholders

The Theory Of Free Market Economics
When I came back to Oregon after spending four years in the Marine Corps, I quickly became
interested in politics. In 2013 I was introduced to the concepts of free market economics, a system
where the consumer decides the prices of goods or services without the intervention of the government
or any other authority. In Sandel s Justice I found that his writing on libertarianism to be somewhat
confusing and written with an agenda. Sandel quotes Nozick saying, only a minimal state, limited to
enforcing contracts and protecting people against force, theft and fraud is justified. I believe Sandel
uses this as an attempt to explain the Non aggression principle, without actually explaining anything
in depth. The non aggression principle the NAP is easily the most important aspect of having a free
market. The number one misconception that people have about libertarian beliefs and the free market
is that with deregulation comes anarchy (a perpetual state of chaos, without rules.) The non aggression
principle is the key component that makes libertarianism work. A free market if followed offers a
maximization of economic and monetary security if the NAP; it leads to complete non interventionist
economy. The best way to maximize peace is to remove any justification for dynamic, aggressive
force (i.e. Institutions of the state) the concepts of government welfare programs can be taken over by
the moral obligation to help your fellow man. Historically the state breeds war, in

The Corporate Side Of American Public Education And The...
Diane Ravitch explores the corporate side of American public education and the reformists misled
beliefs that the school system is in crisis. The school reforms in place are disguised as a means of
improving public education, when in reality it has become an objective to replace public education
with a privately managed, free market system of schooling (Ravitch, p.4). Diane Ravitch supports her
claim that the reformation movement has poor intentions with multiple sources of evidence. Among
these facts she uncovers the truth behind test scores and the achievement gap. Furthermore, Ravitch
exposes how the reform movement is a back door way to privatize schooling with monetary motives
in mind. In response to these problems, Diane ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another reality that Diane Ravitch sheds light on is the misconstrued theories about the achievement
gap. Reformers often say that African American and Hispanic students have not made progress for
decades (Ravitch, p.55). However, after looking at the data from NAEP, it is evident that this assertion
by the reformers just simply is not true. Rather, these students have shown dramatic increases in math.
Many do not recognize this though because white achievement has also improved which keeps the gap
at large. (Ravitch, p.56) Throughout different grades, African Americans and Hispanics have shown
remarkable progress in mathematics. There has been improvement in reading as well, just not as
dramatic as the progress shown in math. Ravitch states, Today s reformers often imply that schools
alone can close the achievement gaps among different groups. The like to point to exemplary charter
schools with high test scores to prove their point (Ravitch, p.59). While the belief that a charter school
could bridge the achievement gap and overcome the disadvantages of poverty, it simply is not a
realistically feasible concept. Thomas B. Timar of the University of California states, Yet the gap is
the symptom of larger social, economic and political problems that go far beyond the reach of the
school... While schools are part of the solution, they alone cannot solve the problem of educational
disparities (Ravitch, p.60). Timar calls society to take action by

look. A low class person could not afford a room for $12,000 a night so it is expected for only high
class individuals to arrive. This stays in his conscience because of the social division of people in
Dubai. Next, Saunders notes, Somewhere in India is a guy who d kill to do some stair washing in
Dubai. (591) This quotation shows that people in other countries would appreciate a job even if its a
job no one would like to do. Saunders feels bad for people that have hard jobs but he knows people in
Dubai are making more money there than in their own country. This dwells on his conscience because
he knows this man is fortunate to be working although it is not the best job. Finally, Saunders adds, I
can go home and write about it, making more for writing about it than he ll make in many, many years
of doing it. (591) This quotation indicates Saunders understands the division of income between the
man and him. He knows this man will have hard labor all his life meanwhile Saunders could simply

What Is The Mood Of Heart Of Darkness Imperialism
Situate passage into the plot of the story. Marlow has just come across a part of Thames which he
refers to as a part of darkness too. Conrad had just went on to list a lot of English seamen before
Marlow does. Marlow refers to the knights Conrad speaks of as no colonists but as conquerers which
is nothing to brag about, This is in stark contrast to what the narrator of the book had just finished
stating, thus suggesting that the narrator is the average persoective while Marlow expresses Conrad s
true thoughts. Moreover, Marlow describes what he dislikes so much about these conquerers and even
makes his opinion clear: that we shouldn t classify people as brutes just because they look different
from us.
Including Conrad s arguably most memorable line ( The conquest of the earth [...] is not a pretty thing
when you look into it too much, ) this passage conveys the contrast between the illusion the public had
of colonialism in the Congo with the reality. Earlier in the book, Conrad went on to list various great
knights who were the English imperialists, thus glamorizing the way in which Europeans colonized all
of Europe. Furthermore, the passage emphasizes that the colonialists had been abusive and brutal
towards people who were just like them apart from having a different complexion and slightly flatter
noses. Conrad, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Theme Of Death In Othello and A Doll s House Essay...
The theme of death is present in many works of literature. It is given metaphors and cloaked with
different meanings, yet it always represents an end. Every end signifies a new beginning, and every
death gives rise to a new birth. Physical death ...is mere transformation, not destruction, writes Ding
Ming Dao. What dies is merely the identity, the identification of a collection of parts that we called a
person. What dies is only our human meaning (49). Figuratively speaking, death symbolizes a change,
an interruption or cessation of regular routine. In this sense, death can be viewed as a more positive

Iago s fraudulent plot. Iago slew Roderigo and Emilia to maintain the frame around his scheme. He
killed to keep them silent, thinking that he could still retain his cover. Iago was foul, because he did
harm to others only to satisfy his own appetite. His plot ended in the most unfortunate way, and it s
end didn t justify the means, because he got caught.
Othello slew Desdemona for honor and justice. Although he was wrong, his action can be somewhat
justified, as his purpose was understandable. Othello was already dead inside before he committed
suicide. The difference in his character before and after the temptation scene is remarkable. Iago
literally tore Othello apart and rebuilt him, instilling in him a whole new set of facts and ideas. Othello
killed himself when he realized the truth, because his old self was already gone, not to mention the
love of his life. His suicide followed the instant that he stepped out of delusion, and his death was an
awakening,
because it shattered the misconception of truth. Othello s death concluded the play, clearing up every
lie that Iago had woven.
The theme of death in Henrik Ibsen s A

Differences Between Morgenthau And Kant
A school of thought, as defined by the Merriam Webster dictionary, is a point of view held by a
particular group. Schools of thought relating to world politics are theories that have been the center
and cause of countless debates. Two of the most well known and influential schools of thought in the
realm of international politics are realism and liberalism. While the ideas making up both systems
have been around for centuries, each school has been since furthered and analyzed by international
relations experts and philosophers. Two notable figures of realism and liberalism are Hans
Morgenthau and Immanuel Kant, respectively, who formed basic principles that became the center of
each school of thought. There are several key differences between Morgenthau and Kant. Some of
these lie in their opposing views on international systems, states as actors in international affairs, and
ethical issues. Others revolve around government systems and the concept of human nature.
Hans Morgenthau, a philosopher of realist thought, believed individual states to be the most important
actors on the international stage. He argues that states are self interested forces constantly vying with
other states for dominance; that they re vying with them for power. Power refers to anything that
establishes and maintains the control of man over man. States are consistently consumed with the
process of maintaining the power they already have and acquiring more. In Politics Among Nations,

Troy Turlowitzki Aka Tto Research Paper
Troy Tulowitzki aka Tulo As baseball season right around the corner some teams are in need of
offence and defense. People say the best way person to full these jobs is Troy Tulowitzki. Experts call
him the best shortstop of our time. But is he really? What is he worth? Should you trade for him? Is
Tulo really the best shortstop of our time? Let s take a close look at this statement. In so far a ten year
career, he has hit 232 doubles, 24 triples, 193 homeruns, with an outstanding 674 runs batted in
(RBIs). With an overall batting average with a pleasant .297. Just shy of that perfect .300. Also he is a
five time all star. Including 2 Gold Gloves and 2 Silver Sluggers. Lastly Tulo as committed 74 errors
in 10 years with an unassisted triple play only 8 others players have done that in this history of the
MLB. Honus Wagner is the best shortstop ever. In ten years of his career he has Wagner hit 348
doubles in his first ten years, he hit 125 triples, hit 49 home runs, Honus had 923 RBIs, with an above
perfect batting average of .345 but a sad 326 errors. Wagner never saw an all star game and never won
an award. Tulo is a bit under Honus Wagner but it was a different game. When Wagner played games
went 22 innings and they always played because only 10 people were on a team. But Troy is way
above Honus in defense. Troy usually leads in fewest errors is a perennial Gold Glove winner. As you
can tell Tulo puts up good numbers and even is better than the best shortstop ever in most subjects. ...

Free Weights vs. Machines Weights Essay examples
Free Weights vs. Machines Weights
People have enjoyed working out for a long time. The going to the gym and working out trend is
gaining popularity every year. Right now working out is the rage. Health clubs are getting built and
remolded. There is still one question that the average working out Joe wants an answer for. Which is
better? Free weights or machine weights? Does it really matter?
When a person works out with free weights it is necessary for him to have a spotter (a person to watch
him in case he fails to lift the desired weight). The only time one could work out without a spotter is if
he/she is lifting extremely light/weights. Even this could be dangerous. No one I know recommends

There is not one exercise that a person of larger size cannot do. All free weight equipment is open,
while machine equipment is in closed. Both machines and free weight benches can be adjusted to get
the proper angle one desires. There are two exercises that can only truly be done using free weights
and that is the parallel squat and power clean. There are a few weight machines that try to mimic the
squat but there is really no substitute. The squat is the king of all exercise. It builds thigh and hip
development and strengthens the lower back. It also strengthens all the tiny stabilizer muscles in the
body. The power clean is a full body exercise that strengthens and builds all the major muscles in the
body like shoulder, back, legs, and arms. There is a downfall of free weights. One has to pick them up
and return them to the tree (rack) after they are completed in their exercise routine. Using free
weights, a person will achieve greater mass than he would if he did the same exercise using machine
equipment. Free weights use the person s natural range of motion and strengthen their stabilizer
muscles. If one switches from machine weights to free weights they will notice that they will shake a
lot. Once that person becomes adjusted to the feel of free weights his stabilizer muscles will get
stronger and he/she won t shake as much if at all. An advantage of machine weight exercise is that
they give the ability to tone and allow a

Congestion
Using the data and your economic knowledge, assess which is the best policy that the UK government
could adopt to reduce congestion on the roads (25 marks)
Market failure is where there is a misallocation of resources in the economy, either completely failing
to provide a good or service or providing the wrong quantity. A negative externality, which is the same
as an external cost, occurs when the consumption or production of a good causes costs to a third party,
where the social cost is greater than the private cost.
There are a several reasons why roads have become increasingly congested, including the following:

A reduction in quantity will therefore will reduce congestion as there will therefore be less cars on the

Thirdly, the government could adopt a road pricing system by charging for the use of road space. Road
pricing has been used in Singapore, where electronic detectors are placed on bridges and drivers are
charged for access to the road space, that is, access to the road network.
One problem with schemes to alter people s behaviour to achieve desired outcomes is that the reverse
can happen, and people behave perversely. For example: speed cameras positioned at regular intervals
on roads may encourage drivers to speed up between cameras, speed bumps on roads may encourage
people to take longer trips to avoid them, hence increasing congestion and pollution, as the costs of
driving in London have increased, the illegal dumping of cars has also

A Neutral America in the War in the Film Casablanca
In the film, Casablanca , it showed us that America was neutral in the war as Rick said, I stick my
neck out for nobody. Rick is portrayed as America, although he seemed as if he was neutral he started
to show that he was caving in for the underdog, just as America did when we started to get involved in
the War. During the film when the Germans come into Rick s café, Rick shows that he is aware of
what is going on in the War, just as we Americans knew about all the concentration camps. Also, when
someone offered to buy Sam s contract from Rick, Rick said I don t buy or sell human beings.
Casablanca shows that America is aware of what is going on and that we are above all of it.
Casablanca would be considered propaganda because when people wanted to flee the country they
were in they wanted to go to America. The people who wanted to flee to America thought of America
as the safe country. Casablanca portrayed America to be as the to go to country, the safest place to be
during the War. Everyone tried getting their passports to go to America, they bought all of their
passports from the black market just to try and get to America. The people wanted a better life and to
be accepted, also they would be safe from the Germans.
The film makes the viewer feel patriotic because we should all feel proud, with all of the bad things
happening during the war people wanted to go to America. Out of the countries they could have fled to
they picked America. The viewers should also

The American Nurse Association ( Ana ) Code Of Ethics
Healthcare organizations are committed to providing clients with quality service and experience while
promoting safety, health, and healing. Nurses have the biggest impact in providing safe client care and
are known for their commitment in improving or increasing client health. However, this ethical
commitment may not always be met due to breakdowns in healthcare delivery. Deviations such as
adoption of unsafe practices or behaviors can lead to sentinel events. Any disconnects or disruptions
can be a detriment to client care. This paper will present recent cases of witnessed breakdowns of
facility protocols that have led to adoptions of unsafe nursing practices, discuss its impact to
healthcare, and how it has affected my personal perspective on the issue.
Provision three of the American Nurse Association (ANA) Code of Ethics states that the nurse
promotes, advocates for, and protects the rights, health, and safety of the patient. Within this standard,
it specifies that nurses have a professional responsibility in promoting a culture of safety (American
Nurse Association [ANA], 2015). As nursing students, we have the privilege of working with nurses
in different departments during clinical rotations. Nursing students are able to observe the ethical
application and inattention/negligence of this provision through the use of evidence based practice as
well as unhealthy practices, respectively. While on clinical rotation, the most common unsafe actions I

Obstructive Sleep Apnea ( Osa )
Obstructive sleep apnea: Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a sleep breathing disorder characterized by
momentary episodes of either complete breathing cessation for periods of ten seconds or more (apnea)
or significant reductions in breathing amplitude (hypopnea) caused by a collapsed or obstructed
airway; these two conditions can lead to hypoxemia (low levels of oxygen in blood) and hypercapnia
(high levels of carbon dioxide in blood). Patients are categorized as having mild, moderate or severe
OSA depending on the apnea/hypopnea index (AHI), which is defined as the total numbers of
apnea/hypopnea episodes per hour of sleep. In normal individuals the index is usually 5 or lower, 5 15
in mild, 15 30 in moderate and 30 or more in severe OSA patients (1, 2). In patients with mild OSA
the oxyhemoglobin saturation drops to 95% and can drop below 80% in severe cases. Obstruction of
the airways results in greater breathing effort and fluctuations in intrathoracic pressure, resulting in
arousal, sleep interruption and reopening of the airway (3). Risk factors for sleep apnea include
obesity, craniofacial abnormalities, smoking, male gender, short neck, and menopause in women.
Obesity is one of the main risk factors of sleep apnea since 60% to 90% of OSA patients are obese and
there is a strong positive correlation between body mass index (BMI) and OSA (4, 5). The overlap of
obesity and OSA poses a challenge to ascribing the relative contributions of these comorbidities to

nothing was solved with the meeting. Cushman stuck with her given circumstances so well by the
point. She was defensive of her child, her husband lacked the attention and care to deal with the
situation, she was drunk which caused her emotions to escalate, and she knew she had not been civil.
Cushman allowed the audience to see the defeat of Annette. There were many more moments when
Annette failed to reach her super objective, but the fate of the hamster, the destruction of Alan s cell

her downfall into causing carnage. Her downfall was clearly articulated by Sarah Cushman and overall

There are family groups who are actually in favor of allowing unfiltered access on the Internet, not

Public access to the Internet is available at over 50% of the public libraries in the United States.
Library patrons can access the limitless information available that the Internet offers. With this many
libraries allowing access and many more each day adding access a new dilemma has been created. The
dilemma is to support the American Library Associations Bill of Rights and the First Amendment
Right of Free Speech or to limit access to the Internet by censoring or blocking out undesirable
information, and thus going against the right of free speech. On July 2, 1997 the American Library
Association (ALA) adopted a resolution affirming that the use of filtering software by libraries to
block access to constitutionally protected speech violated the Library Bill of Rights. An earlier
statment by the ALA titled Access to Electronic Information, Services and Networks in January of
1996 stated users should not be restricted or denied access for expressing or receiving constitutionally
protected speech.
One would think that this would resolve the libraries dilemma, it did not. Public libraries must answer
to boards, parents and their constituencies and therefore this group of people must support this
decision as well. Libraries have constitutional support as well as professional sanction for open
Internet access. Each library must wrestle with

Bulimia Nervosa As A Mental Disorder
Bulimia Nervosa was first characterized as a mental disorder in 1979 by Gerald F.M. Russell. Bulimia
nervosa was initially a variant of anorexia nervosa, but now the disease has its own symptoms, and is
distinguished as a psychiatric condition (Palmer, 2005). Bulimia Nervosa seems to occur in
adolescents and women between the ages of 14 40. The percentage of men suffering from the disease
are about 10% (Farrar, 2014).
Patients suffering from the disease place an excessive importance in body image and weight loss.
They will consume an excessive amount of food and feel guilty about it. Then, they try different
methods of getting rid of the food they just consumed. Binge Eating disorder is a category of Bulimia
Nervosa and there are two subtypes of Binge eating disorder: Purging and Non purging.
Purging is the process where patients who suffer from Bulimia Nervosa try to get rid of the food they
consumed by using various methods. One of the most common methods is making themselves vomit
the food that they just purged. Others use laxatives as a means to get rid of the substances (Smith and
Segal,2015).
Patients who use the Non purging method tend to exercise excessively to lose weight, and they also
use fasting as a means to lose weight. They do not participate in the purging methods. They instead
use these methods to compensate for the purging (National Mental Health Institute, 2014).
The early diagnosis of Bulimia Nervosa was using the DSM III. The name that was given was

Today, I am able to articulate the difference I perceived between myself and Carrot. That difference

Least distance for travel How do you calculate? Sum of distances of lines for each path. Could also be
cost based or travel time based. Dijkstra s Algorithm Helps calculate shortest path between two nodes
in a Graph Assign Infinity distance value to all nodes (except starting) and mark all nodes as unvisited
and create a set of the unvisited nodes For starting node, consider all unvisited neighboring nodes and
calculate distance from starting node. If the distance assigned is Zero or non zero value greater than
calculated value, assign the calculated value. Else keep the assigned value When all unvisited
neighbors of the current node are considered, mark the current node as Visited and remove from
unvisited Set. If the destination node is marked as visited or if there are no nodes in the unvisited set
with non infinity value, the algorithm is finished. If the destination node is marked as visited, the
distance value of the node is the smallest distance from source. Else there is no connection between
source and destination. Identify the unvisited node with the smallest distance value and repeat from 3

The Passage Of The Proclamation Line Of 1763
Following the French and Indian War, the American colonists believed they were entitled to the lands
gained through the Treaty of Paris in 1763. King George III believed that with the issuing of the Royal
Proclamation of 1763, The passage of the Proclamation Line of 1763 created tensions between the
American colonists, British crown, and Native Americans due to the closing of the territory west of
the Appalachian Mountains which was viewed as an attempt to deprive colonists of land in favor of
Native Americans. The Proclamation Line of 1763 was issued by King George III on October 7, 1763,
after the Treaty of Paris, as an attempt to forbid similar incidents like the French and Indian War from
happening again. The Secretary of State Lord Egremont advised King George III that, the surest way
to prevent another general Indian war from occurring was to forbid Native Americans and white
colonists from mixing with one another. As a result, King George III declared that all territories west
of the Appalachian Mountains belonged to the Native Americans and that colonists were forbidden to
cross that boundary line and it was defined as terra nullius a no man s land . King George III stated,
the several Nations or Tribes of Indians with whom We are connected, and who live under our
Protection, should not be molested or disturbed in the Possession of such Parts of Our Dominions and
Territories as, not having been ceded to or purchased by Us, are reserved to [the Native

Double Standard In The Odyssey
Cesar Aguilera
Professor Haynes
English 61
9/27/17
Women s double standard In Homer s The Odyssey woman have a double standard and a great
example is Penelope s story. She spends years being alone awaiting her husbands return after the
trojan war. She is a great wife, a great mother, she is also very wise and intelligent. Most of all her
greatest quality is that she is very faithful. Despite many people wanting to marry her and many telling
her that her husband s dead she still remains loyal to Odysseus. Although Odysseus has a loyal wife he
views women as sluts and men as noble. In order for a man to be considered a good, heroic and strong,
men is to have sex with lots of women but if a woman has sex with a lot of men she is a slut and
horrible. Medusa is a great representation as a monstrous woman in The Odyssey. In order for men to
have sex with a lot of women, a lot of women have to have sex with men. So in order for men to reach
manliness women have to fail at womanliness. I think that Homer s double standard on women is
pretty much unfair.
Penelope was very intelligent and faithful and able to avoid any men who came to visit and stood in
her home. They wanted to take the place as the new king taking advantage of Odysseus absence.
Penelope although it was at a disadvantage by not having anyone in your family with her, obviously
not without her husband, only the company of his son, who became one of his excuses to send the
suitors and avoid any involvement with

Joseph Frank Keaton Iv Or As Everyone Had Called Him...
Joseph Frank Keaton IV or as everyone had called him Buster Keaton was an American actor, director,
producer, writer, comedian, and stunt performer. Buster Keaton was born on October 4, 1895 in Piqua,
Kansas. Here s a little fun fact on why everyone calls Joseph Frank Keaton IV, Buster Keaton. Legend
has it that when Keaton was eighteen months old he fell on a flight of stairs and there was a famous
magician that we all know and love that was there to see it and his name was Harry Houdini. After
Houdini saw Keaton fall, Houdini had said, That was a real buster! , and so that s how Keaton got his
name and that will stick to him for his whole life. So, Buster Keaton s parents Joe and Myra have been
part of the actor/performer industry for several years and just like his parents Buster would follow in
their footsteps. Buster began performing at the age of 3 and his first performance was a part of his
parent s act. While working with his parents throughout his childhood, Keaton would have some
bruises here and there but he took pride in that because he loved doing performances for the audience
and in which they found it funny, so you can say that he loved making people laugh. During these
performances Keaton, would learn to display the deadpan look that would later become a hallmark of
his comedy career. In 1917 Keaton decided to move to Hollywood because his father s drinking
problem would get in the way of the acts/performances they did. Once moving to Hollywood Keaton

Persuasive Essay On Gender Selection
Technology s changes and developments over the course of history provide today s generation with
many exquisite tools and resources. Due to technological developments such as ultrasounds, parents
are now able to know the gender of their baby months before he or she is born. However, recent
advancements have provided parents with another opportunity: gender selection. It is now possible for
people to select what gender their child will be. Though there may be some instances in which gender
selection seems reasonable, altering the gender of a baby can begin a dangerous pathway for
discrimination, gender imbalance, and parental acceptance. Gender selection is essentially made
possible by the separation of male producing sperm and female producing sperm. Gender Selection,
provided by Infobase Learning and Jackson State Community College, states that Ronald Ericsson
discovered that Y chromosome sperm swim faster than X chromosome sperm. By separating the
sperm based upon how fast they swam within test tubes, Ericsson could inseminate the desired sex
producing sperm (2). However, this method is only 50% effective. Flow cytometry, another technique
that uses fluorescent dye to differentiate the sperm, began being used in 1995. Because of differences
in the amount of DNA contained in the two types of sperm, the dye glows more brightly on X sperm
than on Y sperm, allowing equipment to separate them based on their level of fluorescence ( Gender
Selection 3). Though this

Should Humans Consume Insects As An Alternate Source Of...
Should Humans Consume Insects as an Alternate Source of Food? Intro Cultivating animals and crops
takes countless amount of hours and use an abundance of resources; furthermore, it produces waste
that can be harmful to the environment. The human population is increasing at an ever increasing rate
and scientists all over the world are trying to solve a global issue. It is estimated by the UN that the
population will hit 9.7 billion by 2050; undoubtedly, these inefficient and wasteful processes will not
suffice. What about insects, there are plentiful in supply and are packed with proteins and other
nutrients that the body needs; furthermore, using insects in our main diets will decrease the need for
domesticated animals which causes creates problems for everyone; in contrast to insects, which have
versatile ways for people to choose from, use less resources, and produce less waste. Lastly, if we
decrease the population of insects it will actually benefit society by limiting the amount of infestation
and their effects on crops, trees, etc. (DeFoliart, 1992) (Premalatha, 2011) (Verkerka, Trampera,
Trijpb, Martensa, 2007). This proposal will examine the nutrients, environmental impacts, ethics, and
effectiveness of an insect diet and will then be presented through a tri fold board with clear pictures,
statistics and information about this topic. The Problem and How People Are Using Similar Processes
to Solve it In the past, hunting was our main source to feed ourselves and

The Animation Of Life In Frankenstein
The Animation of Life by Stories: Literature and Society Doctor Frankenstein in Mary Shelley s
influential novel never reveals the secrets behind the animation of his monster. Even still, the creature
is suddenly thrust into being; thrust into an amalgamation of ebbing and flowing stories and forced to
carve out a story of his own. It can be reasoned that everything which exhibits what we classify as life
carries with it the capacity to simultaneously create and be shaped by stories. Shelley s intentional
decision to keep the methods of the monster s creation hidden allows for the story of the monster itself
to be what truly gives him life and consequently, the story of Frankenstein and his monster has
breathed life into many modern discussions. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The most poignant example being Victor s wedding night, a night which should be shared between
him and his new bride. Ultimately, Victor is so caught up in his own story that he does not even begin
to reason that his new bride could be the target of his monster s wrath and Victor s beloved dies at the
hands of his creation. (Shelley 151) It is interesting to conjecture that getting caught up in one s own
story is the opposite of animating life, rather, the loss of life. When one is caught up in their own story,
all other stories around it cease to be narratable. By figurative reasoning, when someone s story
becomes un narratable, the life which the story sustains can no longer exist. Arthur Frank comments
that stories are symbiotic, Stories and people need each other. (Frank 37) A person cannot live without
stories and stories can be created, or destroyed, by people. Frankenstein teaches us that stories are
dangerous and out of control, but we depend on them to animate life and without them, life ceases to

A few years ago, I went to sit down with my friend at the lunch table, when I noticed my lunch box
had been moved, and someone was sitting in my seat. I was then rudely told, that it was no longer my
seat. I felt extremely betrayed by my friend for not standing up for me. She did not say anything or
offer to sit at another table with me. I went to sit with another friend, but was bitter and angry at my
friend. This continued to eat at me for weeks. I finally decided to ask my friend for forgiveness for
being angry at her. I really wanted her to apologize for not taking up for me, but I didn t expect it. As I
asked for forgiveness, she gave it, and I felt so much more at peace. I knew I just needed to own up to
my actions. A few months later she finally apologized for her part. As soon as I forgave I was released

  • 2. Comparing Shakespeare s Macbeth And Shakesperes Plays Generally speaking the mind can react differently to the same prompt due to the structure which it was formed from. Physcologists say there are ways to trick the mind into seeing or feeling a certain way. Consequently, how people percieve an act changes depending how it was performed. Whereas Shakesperes plays brought about an emotional appeal to the readers. Granted , in society today it has become more complex yet easier to make an act retrieve an emotional response from watchers or readers. Futhurmore, Willamson and Stewart both perform the same scene from Act 2 Scene 1 of William Shakespeare s play Macbeth ; yet their setting, sound effects, tone and apparence differ. Admittedly, scenary sets the tone for any movie, play, book etc. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Particularly, Stewarts background sound is simialr to a heart beat; one can hear the swishing sound of the blood pumping in and out of the heart. The heartbeat is a key componet in the effectness of Stewarts version, leaving room for many possible reasons behind it. Consequently , the heart beat could be representation of Stewarts own heart racing before commiting the deed ahead. Also at the end of this verison the heart beat stops pumping and the sound stops, implying a death of somesort took place. In addtion, Stewart uses his vocal cords to howl like a wolf; this sound effect adds to the idea that Stewarts quest brings forth an excitment/happiness . The howl could be a symbol for a step towards freedom for Stewart. Simiarly, Williamsons background sound is mere static. The static embleshies Williamsons verson by adding to the idea of his mind unraveling. While the static aids in the effeect of Williamsons tone throughout; it is especially affective towards the end of the scene. As a rule static can be heard at the end of a call with bad reception before the call is dropped. Likewise static in this version could represent Williamsons state of mind; thus at the closing of the scene the static halts as Williamson procceeds to transition into complete ... Essay on Globalization on New Companies and Small Buisness When we look at international business today we can obviously notice that companies all around the globe trying to expand their business as more as they can. When some company runs some business, they are relatively weak at the start point. As firm passing trough the process of growing, they must survive all the threats and traps on that road. We can say that the most risky and hardest job to do when new company starting with some business is surviving that first period of probably a year or two. At the start point every businessman trying to go through that process step by step, so for example; if we plan to open some tourist agency, the first thing we gone do is, to check the geographic area for that kind a job, of course there is no ... It is almost unbelievable that owns a business competition of the biggest companies in the world now work all together, privatization of state companies are on an unbelievable high scale, actually almost ninety percent of world biggest companies are now in the private ownership. Small private, family businessman don t even got a chance to reject the offer of some big international firm, because they can t bear on that high scale. If we observe the small state like Croatia is, we can notice that we actually have a lot of companies that work on the international scale like Podravka, Atlantic group, INA, RIZ, Dalekovod proizvodnja, Agrokor and much else. • 4. How Is Rip Van Winkle A Hero Rip Van Winkle is an ineffectual male hero who cannot support his farm or family. Instead of facing the consequences of his idleness and facing his wife, who certainly makes the problem worse instead of better, he sleeps for twenty years. Finally, he is of such an age that his idleness is excusable and allowed. This makes him an antithesis to the American dream. He has no ambition, he does not work hard for himself, and he does not rise above where he began. He just likes to chat and have friends. He also sleeps through what was the defining moment of American history, and upon waking, he does not even care. This develops him as the American anti hero, for he takes no part in the country s founding or history. His story makes sense as more of an Old World story, one that the Dutch settlers, in their relatively old village, can retell. The story also shows that great historical events are often less important than the daily happenings in an individual s life. The only oppressor Rip Van Winkle cares about having overcome is his wife. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We only ever see her worst side, except for the one comment made after she has died that she always kept the house in good order. Her criticism of her husband, if far too strong, is nevertheless deserved. He has completely failed in his role as husband, father, and breadwinner, leaving his family in near ruin. The husband is an extreme form of deadbeat and the wife an extreme form of nagging, a state of affairs which appears to be a lesson and warning for Irving s male and female readers alike. The husbands should learn to be more industrious and attentive, and the wives should learn to be less antagonistic and more understanding lest they drive their husbands further ... • 6. Definition Essay On Respect When I was a little kid, about 8 to 9 years of age, I usually believed on anything a person said. Specifically the time when one of my classmates said I ll give back your pencil at the end of class. That s where trust comes in: a substantial belief in one s loyalty, truth, or ability. In fact, he never gave it back which saddens me because the pencil he kept was actually my favorite one. It s understandable that a pencil is cheap and easily replaceable, but that doesn t give anyone the right to keep it without the owner s consent. From my perspective, trust is like a vase, a nice well decorated artifact, that is highly fragile and easy to break. Once it is destroyed it can be fixed, maybe by using tape or super glue, but the vase will never ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Be courteous: that s what respect is. Respect is also what brings people together, like a relationship or a friendship of some sort. If not used it can also tear people apart. There is another form of respect too, and that is respect for one s property. Ever heard of the term vandalism ? That term means: action involving destruction of or damage to private or public property. This includes anything from writing on a desk at school to stealing from 7 Eleven. It is a form of disrespect and crime. Property, whether a friend s, the school s, or even a stranger s, should always be respected. Even if you smash a bottle on the side walk. Be thoughtful and respect others, and you ll get that respect back. So what does respect truly mean to me? Respect for me is a form of loving and admiring something or someone. It means so much that it makes me open up more about my ideas on improving somethings in life, without getting rudely interrupted or persecuted. Again with the friendship thing, it is the reason why I have the friends that I think highly of today. Because we hand out and obtain respect from one another, as a result, formed the our ... His passionate and often exasperating life and his drive for re invention fed into his prolific production of several works of art. Les Demoiselles d Avignon is a prime example of this. He went on to combine characteristics of both styles and add his own personal touch to create this shattering masterpiece. Picasso s appearance brought rivalry to Matisse and his styles and as they lived on the next few years, they figuratively battled one another and always comparing and contrasting each other s paintings. We can only be thankful and appreciate this art war between these two unique artists which created a platform for future artist and individuals alike. To conclude, the life of artistic techniques and principles have taken a drastic change from when it began. • 14. The Theory Of Free Market Economics When I came back to Oregon after spending four years in the Marine Corps, I quickly became interested in politics. In 2013 I was introduced to the concepts of free market economics, a system where the consumer decides the prices of goods or services without the intervention of the government or any other authority. In Sandel s Justice I found that his writing on libertarianism to be somewhat confusing and written with an agenda. Sandel quotes Nozick saying, only a minimal state, limited to enforcing contracts and protecting people against force, theft and fraud is justified. I believe Sandel uses this as an attempt to explain the Non aggression principle, without actually explaining anything in depth. The non aggression principle the NAP is easily the most important aspect of having a free market. The number one misconception that people have about libertarian beliefs and the free market is that with deregulation comes anarchy (a perpetual state of chaos, without rules.) The non aggression principle is the key component that makes libertarianism work. A free market if followed offers a maximization of economic and monetary security if the NAP; it leads to complete non interventionist economy. The best way to maximize peace is to remove any justification for dynamic, aggressive force (i.e. Institutions of the state) the concepts of government welfare programs can be taken over by the moral obligation to help your fellow man. Diane Ravitch explores the corporate side of American public education and the reformists misled beliefs that the school system is in crisis. The school reforms in place are disguised as a means of improving public education, when in reality it has become an objective to replace public education with a privately managed, free market system of schooling (Ravitch, p.4). Diane Ravitch supports her claim that the reformation movement has poor intentions with multiple sources of evidence. Among these facts she uncovers the truth behind test scores and the achievement gap. Furthermore, Ravitch exposes how the reform movement is a back door way to privatize schooling with monetary motives in mind. In response to these problems, Diane ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another reality that Diane Ravitch sheds light on is the misconstrued theories about the achievement gap. Reformers often say that African American and Hispanic students have not made progress for decades (Ravitch, p.55). However, after looking at the data from NAEP, it is evident that this assertion by the reformers just simply is not true. Rather, these students have shown dramatic increases in math. Many do not recognize this though because white achievement has also improved which keeps the gap at large. (Ravitch, p.56) Throughout different grades, African Americans and Hispanics have shown remarkable progress in mathematics. There has been improvement in reading as well, just not as dramatic as the progress shown in math. Ravitch states, Today s reformers often imply that schools alone can close the achievement gaps among different groups. The like to point to exemplary charter schools with high test scores to prove their point (Ravitch, p.59). While the belief that a charter school could bridge the achievement gap and overcome the disadvantages of poverty, it simply is not a realistically feasible concept. Thomas B. A low class person could not afford a room for $12,000 a night so it is expected for only high class individuals to arrive. Conrad had just went on to list a lot of English seamen before Marlow does. Marlow refers to the knights Conrad speaks of as no colonists but as conquerers which is nothing to brag about, This is in stark contrast to what the narrator of the book had just finished stating, thus suggesting that the narrator is the average persoective while Marlow expresses Conrad s true thoughts. Moreover, Marlow describes what he dislikes so much about these conquerers and even makes his opinion clear: that we shouldn t classify people as brutes just because they look different from us. Including Conrad s arguably most memorable line ( The conquest of the earth [...] is not a pretty thing when you look into it too much, ) this passage conveys the contrast between the illusion the public had of colonialism in the Congo with the reality. Earlier in the book, Conrad went on to list various great knights who were the English imperialists, thus glamorizing the way in which Europeans colonized all of Europe. • 21. Differences Between Morgenthau And Kant A school of thought, as defined by the Merriam Webster dictionary, is a point of view held by a particular group. Schools of thought relating to world politics are theories that have been the center and cause of countless debates. Two of the most well known and influential schools of thought in the realm of international politics are realism and liberalism. While the ideas making up both systems have been around for centuries, each school has been since furthered and analyzed by international relations experts and philosophers. Two notable figures of realism and liberalism are Hans Morgenthau and Immanuel Kant, respectively, who formed basic principles that became the center of each school of thought. There are several key differences between Morgenthau and Kant. Some of these lie in their opposing views on international systems, states as actors in international affairs, and ethical issues. Others revolve around government systems and the concept of human nature. Hans Morgenthau, a philosopher of realist thought, believed individual states to be the most important actors on the international stage. He argues that states are self interested forces constantly vying with other states for dominance; that they re vying with them for power. There are a few weight machines that try to mimic the squat but there is really no substitute. The squat is the king of all exercise. Obstructive Sleep Apnea ( Osa ) Obstructive sleep apnea: Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a sleep breathing disorder characterized by momentary episodes of either complete breathing cessation for periods of ten seconds or more (apnea) or significant reductions in breathing amplitude (hypopnea) caused by a collapsed or obstructed airway; these two conditions can lead to hypoxemia (low levels of oxygen in blood) and hypercapnia (high levels of carbon dioxide in blood). Patients are categorized as having mild, moderate or severe OSA depending on the apnea/hypopnea index (AHI), which is defined as the total numbers of apnea/hypopnea episodes per hour of sleep. In normal individuals the index is usually 5 or lower, 5 15 in mild, 15 30 in moderate and 30 or more in severe OSA patients (1, 2). In patients with mild OSA the oxyhemoglobin saturation drops to 95% and can drop below 80% in severe cases. Obstruction of the airways results in greater breathing effort and fluctuations in intrathoracic pressure, resulting in arousal, sleep interruption and reopening of the airway (3). Risk factors for sleep apnea include obesity, craniofacial abnormalities, smoking, male gender, short neck, and menopause in women. Obesity is one of the main risk factors of sleep apnea since 60% to 90% of OSA patients are obese and there is a strong positive correlation between body mass index (BMI) and OSA (4, 5). Did you hear that? stupid, proclaims Arthur Sylvester, Assistant Secretary of Defense for Public Affairs (The Governments, 1). Those that reflect a low trust for the government and businesses have conjured various theories to explain where the government has failed to inform their nation with all of the information. With the government exempting themselves from telling their citizens thetruth, America has every right not to trust them. As people of a country founded on truth and justice, the citizens should open their eyes and not be blinded by the pretentious feeling of safety that the officials are trying to portray. Conspiracy Theorists have made many different theories to prove events where reality has been distorted. While some are false, some can be educated theories and proven right. Although, few Government conspiracies have held legitimacy throughout history, some are founded on truth. Without us realizing the government s superior motive, it is easy to find times in the past when the people that hold great power would manipulate the general public. • 37. History of the Apollo Program Essay We choose to go to the moon... I believe that this nation should commit itself to achieving the goal, before this decade is out, of landing a man on the moon, and returning him, safely to the earth. No single space project in this period will be more important in the long range exploration of space; and none will be so difficult of expensive to accomplish. (John F. Kennedy Special Joint Session of Congress , May 25th, 1961) With just a few words John F. Kennedy launched one of the largest endeavors that America has ever embarked upon. The address given to congress in May of 1961 put America in a race against Russia to see who could make it to the moon first. This was the start of the space program in America. From it came the ... The goals were: 1) to subject man and equipment to space flight up to two weeks in duration. 2) To rendezvous and dock with orbiting vehicles and to maneuver the docked combination by using the target vehicles propulsion system. 3) To perfect the methods of entering the atmosphere and landing on a pre selected point on land. The Gemini project contained 24 flights, of which 2 were unmanned. The Gemini project was considered a success obtaining all objectives except one, they were never able to pre select a landing point on land. The Gemini project contained many elements that were necessary for the future moon landing, to come in the Apollo program. They achieved the first American Extravehicular Activity (EVA) also known as space walking. The first EVA was achieved by Edward H. White II, in June 1965 and only lasted 22 minutes. By the end of the Gemini project Edwin E. Aldrin, Jr. had set an EVA record of 5 hours, 30 minutes, for one space walk, in November 1966. The major obstacle of docking two objects in space, placing an onboard computer on a space craft, and adding fuel cells for electrical power were all major breakthroughs of the Gemini program. • 38. He Was White, I Was Black Essay Although I can articulate it better now, I knew when I was ten years old why Carrot Wilkins and I would not always be as close as we were then. He was white, and I was black. I lived on the outskirts of Winston Salem, North Carolina in a predominately black neighborhood. Carrot lived about a fifteen minutes walk away in a largely white rural town called Walkertown. We met in the third grade on a school bus that took us both to Thomas Cash Elementary School. Being country boys at heart, we shared a lot of interests. We fished together a lot hunted squirrels, and played Robin Hood in the woods that separated our neighborhoods. But like kittens and puppies, we were being raised with very different perspectives of the world. And we ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They were smart, strong, handsome, and noble. And, until this incident, imagining that I was one of them had given me the feeling that I could do just about anything. I did come up with an answer to Carrot s Aqua Man. I decided I would be Magic Johnson. This, of course, met with immediate protest because Magic Johnson was not a superhero. Carrot demanded that I choose a real superhero. I decided I didn t want to play the game anymore, that I would never play the game again. We both went home, angry. Carrot didn t understand why, after I had played the game dozens of times with no problem, I had decided that I would never play again. And neither one of us understood why the people who created the superheroes made them all white. The only thing I knew was that Carrot would be able to continue pretending he was a superhero, but I never could again. Today, I am able to articulate the difference I perceived between myself and Carrot. That difference was based on the luxury of unlimited aspirations. This luxury allows a white child in America to believe that this is his land. And in his land he is taught that limitations are set only by his own work ethic. If he gives life his best shot, the system that distributes the spoils of life will reward him. This is called the American Dream. • 42. Double Standard In The Odyssey Cesar Aguilera Professor Haynes English 61 9/27/17 Women s double standard In Homer s The Odyssey woman have a double standard and a great example is Penelope s story. She spends years being alone awaiting her husbands return after the trojan war. She is a great wife, a great mother, she is also very wise and intelligent. Most of all her greatest quality is that she is very faithful. Despite many people wanting to marry her and many telling her that her husband s dead she still remains loyal to Odysseus. Although Odysseus has a loyal wife he views women as sluts and men as noble. In order for a man to be considered a good, heroic and strong, men is to have sex with lots of women but if a woman has sex with a lot of men she is a slut and horrible. Medusa is a great representation as a monstrous woman in The Odyssey. In order for men to have sex with a lot of women, a lot of women have to have sex with men. So in order for men to reach manliness women have to fail at womanliness. I think that Homer s double standard on women is pretty much unfair. Penelope was very intelligent and faithful and able to avoid any men who came to visit and stood in her home. They wanted to take the place as the new king taking advantage of Odysseus absence. Penelope although it was at a disadvantage by not having anyone in your family with her, obviously not without her husband, only the company of his son, who became one of his excuses to send the suitors and avoid any involvement with ... Joseph Frank Keaton IV or as everyone had called him Buster Keaton was an American actor, director, producer, writer, comedian, and stunt performer. Buster Keaton was born on October 4, 1895 in Piqua, Kansas. Here s a little fun fact on why everyone calls Joseph Frank Keaton IV, Buster Keaton. Legend has it that when Keaton was eighteen months old he fell on a flight of stairs and there was a famous magician that we all know and love that was there to see it and his name was Harry Houdini. After Houdini saw Keaton fall, Houdini had said, That was a real buster! , and so that s how Keaton got his name and that will stick to him for his whole life. So, Buster Keaton s parents Joe and Myra have been part of the actor/performer industry for several years and just like his parents Buster would follow in their footsteps. Buster began performing at the age of 3 and his first performance was a part of his parent s act. While working with his parents throughout his childhood, Keaton would have some bruises here and there but he took pride in that because he loved doing performances for the audience and in which they found it funny, so you can say that he loved making people laugh. During these performances Keaton, would learn to display the deadpan look that would later become a hallmark of his comedy career. In 1917 Keaton decided to move to Hollywood because his father s drinking problem would get in the way of the acts/performances they did. Once moving to Hollywood Keaton ... • 44. Persuasive Essay On Gender Selection Technology s changes and developments over the course of history provide today s generation with many exquisite tools and resources. Due to technological developments such as ultrasounds, parents are now able to know the gender of their baby months before he or she is born. However, recent advancements have provided parents with another opportunity: gender selection. It is now possible for people to select what gender their child will be. Though there may be some instances in which gender selection seems reasonable, altering the gender of a baby can begin a dangerous pathway for discrimination, gender imbalance, and parental acceptance. Gender selection is essentially made possible by the separation of male producing sperm and female producing sperm. Gender Selection, provided by Infobase Learning and Jackson State Community College, states that Ronald Ericsson discovered that Y chromosome sperm swim faster than X chromosome sperm. By separating the sperm based upon how fast they swam within test tubes, Ericsson could inseminate the desired sex producing sperm (2). However, this method is only 50% effective. Flow cytometry, another technique that uses fluorescent dye to differentiate the sperm, began being used in 1995. Because of differences in the amount of DNA contained in the two types of sperm, the dye glows more brightly on X sperm than on Y sperm, allowing equipment to separate them based on their level of fluorescence ( Gender Selection 3). Intro Cultivating animals and crops takes countless amount of hours and use an abundance of resources; furthermore, it produces waste that can be harmful to the environment. The human population is increasing at an ever increasing rate and scientists all over the world are trying to solve a global issue. It is estimated by the UN that the population will hit 9.7 billion by 2050; undoubtedly, these inefficient and wasteful processes will not suffice. What about insects, there are plentiful in supply and are packed with proteins and other nutrients that the body needs; furthermore, using insects in our main diets will decrease the need for domesticated animals which causes creates problems for everyone; in contrast to insects, which have versatile ways for people to choose from, use less resources, and produce less waste. Lastly, if we decrease the population of insects it will actually benefit society by limiting the amount of infestation and their effects on crops, trees, etc. (DeFoliart, 1992) (Premalatha, 2011) (Verkerka, Trampera, Trijpb, Martensa, 2007). Even still, the creature is suddenly thrust into being; thrust into an amalgamation of ebbing and flowing stories and forced to carve out a story of his own. It can be reasoned that everything which exhibits what we classify as life carries with it the capacity to simultaneously create and be shaped by stories. Shelley s intentional decision to keep the methods of the monster s creation hidden allows for the story of the monster itself to be what truly gives him life and consequently, the story of Frankenstein and his monster has breathed life into many modern discussions. ... Ultimately, Victor is so caught up in his own story that he does not even begin to reason that his new bride could be the target of his monster s wrath and Victor s beloved dies at the hands of his creation. (Shelley 151) It is interesting to conjecture that getting caught up in one s own story is the opposite of animating life, rather, the loss of life. When one is caught up in their own story, all other stories around it cease to be narratable. By figurative reasoning, when someone s story becomes un narratable, the life which the story sustains can no longer exist. Arthur Frank comments that stories are symbiotic, Stories and people need each other. (Frank 37) A person cannot live without stories and stories can be created, or destroyed, by people.
