As a general for the Confederacy, Robert E. lee had many choices to make that could have dire

Lee s brilliance is not the only thing that helped the confederacy, the trust his men put into his
abilities is what gave the Confederacy an edge against the Union. His men saw him as an
untouchable, smart and strong leader, this belief started to form during the seven day battles.

What also boosted the appreciation his men had for him was his choices in generals for his two
corps he created from the Army of North Virginia, they were Thomas J. Stonewall Jackson and
Old War Horse Lt. Gen. James Longstreet (HistoryNet). The ultimate sign of respect was after
the seven day battle when Robert E. Lee not only earned the respect of his comrades but earned
his new permanent nickname Marse Robert, which means Master Robert (Stiles). Before Robert
