Anglo Saxon England
4. Vikings in Anglo Saxon England Scandinavian influence The process of Christianization and Latin
influx was interrupted at the end of the eight century (787) when the Vikings (Norwegian and Dane
tribes) began their ravages over Anglo Saxon England, sacking monasteries like Lindisfarne and
Jarrow (793 794). By the ninth century, churches and monasteries in Northumbria and Mercia lay in
ruins while settlements in all parts of the country had been plundered and northern towns, such as
York in 867, captured. Anglo Saxon kingdoms were finally overturned while the Vikings established
their own kingdom in the northeast of England (the Danelaw). Under King Alfred s rule of Wessex
(871 899) and despite several conflicts, the Danish were contained in such area. In turn, the Danish
king had to convert to Christianism, although the moral fibre of the church was seriously disrupted
(Baugh (2005:79). Then Alfred s descendants, Edward the Elder (900 925) and Athelstan (925 939),
extended their authority throughout England Athelstan s triumph in 937 in Brunanburh was crucial,
which is recorded in an Old English poem with the same name. However, invasions were repeated at
the end of the tenth century along the southeast coast, led by the Norwegian and Danish kings, Olaf
and Svein respectively, who attacked London. Svein made himself king, sending the English king
Æthelred the Unready into exile in Normandy. England was hence ruled by Danish kings from 1014 to
1017, when the Danish

Next World War Could Be on Water
Next world war could be on WATER
Anyone who can solve the problems of water will be worthy of two Nobel prizes one for peace and
one for science.
John F. Kennedy
Water Crisis:
Water is a basic requirement for all life, yet water resources are facing more and more demands from,
and competition among, users. President Kennedy has expressed the crisis of water in the above said
lines so beautifully. According to World Water Council While the world s population tripled in the
20th century, the use of renewable water resources has grown six fold. Within the next fifty years, the
world population will increase by another 40 to 50 %. This population growth coupled with
industrialization and urbanization will result in an increasing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

 Helps in utilizing the primary source of water and prevent the runoff from going into sewer or
storm drains, thereby reducing the load on treatment plants.
 Reduces urban flooding.
 Recharging water into the aquifers help in improving the quality of existing groundwater through
dilution.
Situation in India:
India is a developing country. The illiteracy rate there is comparatively high. Also water has been a
main concern there. Even though the rate of urbanization in India is among the lowest in the world,
the nation has more than 250 million city dwellers. Experts predict that this number will rise even
further, and by 2020, about 50 per cent of India s population will be living in cities. This is going to
put further pressure on the already strained centralized water supply systems of urban areas.
(http://www.rainwaterharvesting.org/Crisis/Urbanwater scenario.htm) According to Central Public
Health Engineering Organization (CPHEEO) estimates, as on 31 March 2000, 88 per cent of urban
population has access to a potable water supply. But this supply is highly erratic and unreliable.
Transmission and distribution networks are old and poorly maintained, and generally not trustworthy.
The proper conservation of the water is one of the crises that need to be solved immediately else
serious consequences may follow. Rain water harvesting in this prospect seems a very

The Epidemic Of The Polio Virus
With a substantial amount of preventive healthcare advancements behind them, the American medical
community turned its attention to the deadly polio virus plaguing America. From 1937 to 1952, known
cases of Americans contracting polio skyrocketed from ten thousand to a staggering figure of roughly
fifty seven thousand cases. Of those cases within that time period, approximately one thousand five
hundred deaths as a result of polio were recorded. In the year 1953, The National Foundation for
Infantile Paralysis provided the scientist Dr. Jonas Salk with the tools necessary to research, and
develop a working vaccine to combat the devastating polio disease. After much trial and error, Dr.
Salk was finally able to create what he felt was a successful polio vaccination, and proceeded to
conduct a field test. After resounding success, manufacturing instructions for the Salk vaccine were
sent to a series of scientific laboratories for immediate production and administration to American
children. The disaster that occurred next will forever be known through American medical history as
the Cutter Incident (named so after one of the labs that administered the polio vaccine). This medical
crisis sent shockwaves throughout America and the medical community, and numerous lawsuits were
filed against Cutter Laboratories, resulting in fewer and fewer labs willing to accept contract work in
developing vaccines.
Throughout the years, blame has been thrown at every party involved in the

The Road, By Cormac Mccarthy, And On The Beach
Comparative Essay The way the human mind operates is a mystery to all. Through thinking that the
mind is something that can be comprehended humans have created the art of psychology and
psychiatry, where the inner machinations of one s mind are turned into nothing more than phrases and
terms. Between every person there lies a sense of morality, no matter who. The sense of morality is
not the same though, as children we learn to feel pain and suffering as others do, and to put the shoes
of others on. In the end, it seems, that almost all people brought up well as children, turn out to be the
people considered to have a strong sense of morality and can feel what pains some must endure.

that the boy and father are able to garner. In this short time a group of cannibals arrive to the house
they are in, and it is revealed that they are keeping a hoard of humans locked up in a cellar to feast on.
Though the father is not as shocked as he would have liked to have been, the boy is absolutely
horrified and is the key moment where the boy realizes that the world truly is dead. Both the father
and son are able to sneak out of the house undetected, and are forced to wait in a bush near the house
to keep from alerting anyone inside of their presence. Once they get back on the road, they stumble
upon a patch of land full of apples, and a barn, which has fresh water stored underneath it. The spoils
of their journey does the job in refreshing both the father and son, and gets them to their next
destination. Arriving at a house that the father has decided they will camp at, he goes to do some
exploring. In the exploring he manages to find a bomb shelter, never before plundered for its goods.
The father and the boy load their cart full with food and wait a few days to spoil themselves at the
bomb shelter. Once back on the road they run into an old man whom does not mean trouble unlike
every other character in the road, but instead is seemingly lifeless and

Reconstruction Failed For African Americans
Reconstruction failed for African Americans. By the 1890 s all optimism that came as a result of the
Constitutional rights guaranteed to them by the 13th, 14th, and 15th amendments was gone. Their
reality, particularly for those in the South, was one of lynchings, Jim Crowe laws, and voting
restrictions. They faced discrimination, segregation, limited educational opportunities, and a tenant
farming system that only slightly differed from slavery. In the early twentieth century, visionaries such
as Booker T. Washington, W.E.B. DuBois, and Marcus Garvey recognized the urgent need for change.
These great leaders were in agreement that action was required to uplift the African American race.
However, their philosophies on how to approach it were vastly different. Born a slave on a Virginia
farm, Booker Taliaferro Washington (1856 1915) rose to become one of the most influential African
American intellectuals of the late 19th century. He was nine years old when the Civil War ended. He
worked hard as a young child and at 16, he left home to attend Hampton Institute. One of the few
black high schools in the South, it focused on industrial and agricultural training while maintaining an
extremely structured curriculum that stressed discipline and high moral character. Washington thrived
in that environment. He eventually went on to head a new school in Tuskegee, Alabama. The
Tuskegee Institute was devoted to the training of black teachers, farmers, and skilled workers. Under

Market penetration in the lower left quadrant, is the safest of the four options. Here you focus on

Product development, in the lower right quadrant, is a little more risky, because a new product is
introduced in the existing market (Tony,2000,P241). Here, you sell different products to the same
people. Here Raju Omelet can extend their product by producing different variants, or repackage

Illusion and Reality in Ryunoske Akutagawa´s In a Grove
Japanese writer Ryunoske Akutagawa makes it difficult to distinguish the differences between illusion
and reality. It suited his ironic taste to play the illusionist who leaves his audience staring blankly into
a mirror . We see this in Akutagawa story In a Grove because each of three main characters gives
conflicting confession, and each have a motivation to possibly lie. Tajomaru was the first of the three
main characters to confess, and throughout his confession he is motivated to establish a greater
reputation for himself knowing he has nothing to lose. Tajomaru willingly confesses to the police
commissioner that he was the one who murdered Takehiko. He later elevates himself to the same level
as the police commissioner. Am I the only one who kills people? You, you don t use your swords. You
kill people with your power, with your money. Sometimes you kill them on the pretext of working for
their good. It s true they don t bleed. They are in the best of health, but all the same you ve killed
them. It s hard to say who is a greater sinner, you or me . By elevating himself to the same status as
the commissioner he is making himself an equal to justify that both of them are murderers and that
they are the same. Tajomaru also told the police commissioner that he untied Takehiko before there
battle. I untied him and told him to cross sword . In this quote Tajomaru wants to be view as a fair and
honorable person. He further establishes his reputation when he described the

From the fact that these quotes are from Thomas Fuller and Buddha, it s clear to see that throughout
the history of the world, plenty a focus has been on the topic of health. Over the years, questions like
these have been asked: How do we keep ourselves healthy? In which ways should we keep ourselves
healthy? Is healthcare a right, or a commodity? What is health ? Even today, these questions are hotly
debated. However, as our country becomes more industrialized, and healthcare becomes more

The first article I read was titled Education, Health, and the Default American Lifestyle, was written
by John Mirowsky and Catherine E. Ross. The main idea of this article was to articulate that education
has the ability to override the default American lifestyle, which has has three elements to it: displacing
human energy with mechanical energy, displacing household food production with industrial food
production, and displacing health maintenance with with medical dependency. Overall, the paper says
that in order to get out of an unhealthy lifestyle, you need to recognize the risks, which require some
form of higher education. According to this paper though, health is being vigorous, vital, and fit .
According to the Symbolic Interactionist, that isn t what every culture would say health is. Some may
say that being a little overweight is a sign of good fortune. While the paper does make a good
argument that education is the most important influence on health, I do not think is it the overall single
most important impact. One can be educated, but can still be turned down for a job, therefore leaving
them without insurance or health care. Education isn t always the deciding factor in what you re going
to get. Race, wealth, and gender also play a very big role, arguably bigger

The Impact Of Multiculturalism In Canada
Multiculturalism is the act of giving equivalent consideration regarding various foundations in a

Multiculturalism that seeks in keeping up the peculiarity of numerous societies is regularly
differentiated to other settlement arrangements, for example, social mix, social osmosis, and racial
isolation. Multiculturalism has been depicted as a salad bowl and cultural mosaic (Burgess, et al.

who are ethnic and religious minorities, minority countries, and indigenous people groups. The term

An Overview of Diabetes
Diabetes Overview While modern lifestyles and medical care have certainly improved the longevity of
humans in the developed world, and contributed to a greater quality of life scenario, those same
lifestyles have engendered a number of issues that contribute to disease. Lack of proper diet, fast food,
high fat and carbohydrate diets without adequate fruits and vegetables, lack of exercise, smoking and
alcohol contribute to an epidemic of obesity which, in turn, contributes to a serious metabolic disorder
called Diabetes Mellitus Type 2. While not managed by insulin injections, it is nevertheless quite
serious and has a number of progressing symptoms that, if not treated properly, can result in
cardiovascular, renal and neurological problems, as well as amputation, ocular issues, and even
cognitive dysfunction.
Type II Diabetes (diabetes mellitus), is also sometimes referred to as adult onset diabetes or non
insulin dependent diabetes. It is a medical disorder that, due to a number of factors codependent with
the modern world, is characterized by higher than normal blood glucose levels that play havoc with
insulin deficiency and resistance. Insulin resistance means that cells do not respond appropriately
when there is free insulin in the blood system. Essentially, they body is reacting to an improper
balance of sugars and insulin. Because obesity is often present, research suggests that even thought the
mechanisms controling glucose and insulin are unclear, the adopose

Analyse the Commodity Attractions of the Element Nickel Essay
Nickel
Introduction
The intension of the paper is to analyse the commodity attractions of the element nickel. It is highly
related to physical and chemical properties of the element because any commercial usage of this
element is based on its property. Also, nickel is extracted from ore, so the ore deposit of it will be
highly related to the capital of any nickel related business. The laterite nickel ore deposit, Greenvale
located in Queensland be focused on to reveal the genesis and other attributes of this type of nickel
deposit. Based on these information a conclusion of the current market status of nickel can be

(Keim 1990). Nickel is widely used in industries.
Ore deposit condition Most of nickel is extracted from laterite nickel ores, which consist 60% 70% of
nickel on earth. This kind of ore is formed by the chemical weathering of serpentinite and other
igneous rocks. Because of this requirement of weathering, deposits are located mostly in a humid
tropical environment (Figure 1). (Butt Cluzel 2013) The major end product of this weathering process
will be: hematite, nickeliferous limonitic ore ((Fe,Ni)O(OH).nH2O) and nickeliferous silicate ore
((Ni,Mg)6Si4O10(OH)8). Nickeliferous limonitic ore and nickeliferous silicate ore are the two
dominant types of nickel ore. (Pickles 2003) uplifted oxide rich regoliths form nickeliferous limonitic
ore and nickel goes downward to saprolite and combine with silicates to form nickeliferous silicate
ore. The silicate ore deposits at a greater depth than the limonitic ore. Nickeliferous limonitic ores are
mostly weathered product of goethites. (Butt Cluzel 2013) For both ores nickel content of each will be
around 1.5%. Nickel in the silicate ore will be more than 1.5%. (Pickles 2003) Since laterite nickel
ores are from the weathering of pre existing rock, the composition of surrounding rocks, topography
and climate are important factors. Usually laterite nickel ores will form on olivine rich ultramafic
rocks. These rocks are the basic building blocks of nickel ores.

crime of trying to betray a country, usually by trying to overthrow the current state of the government
or other systems, such as the power of the church. This is a crime that no one was exempt from. Many

Netflix Satire Examples Of Satire
In the Netflix mockumentary series, American vandal, made by Dan Perrault, the main character
Dylan Maxwell, an 18 year old senior at Hanover High School was held responsible for performing
vandalism on 27 cars causing $100K worth of disfiguring. Everybody believed that Dylan was in
charge of the destruction, despite the fact that he claimed innocence. Instead, they thought Alex
Trimboli, the eyewitness, Ms Shapiro, the Spanish teacher and everyone else that claimed he was
behind the vandalism were speaking the truth. They put Dylan as the prime suspect based on his past
with Ms Shapiro and furthermore because they believed he was capable of committing such crime.
The thesis of the show is never to prejudge a person based on their past. That may sound as cliche as it
appears to be yet the accompanying procedures used to shape the show will enable one to see how
under the circumstances this might be viewed as a cliche thesis. The examples of satire that the
creators used were humour, exaggeration and irony. A diversion was utilised to make the show
enjoyable for young people, yet with the use of satire, they could influence teenagers to appreciate the
show while accepting a genuine message about how a false allegation against anyone could destroy
their lives. Many of the people in the show were biased against rebellious teenagers which was
something that Dylan was known for being. In the mockumentary, Dylan Maxwell was accused based

I m so nervous! I said to my sister as we stepped out of the car grabbing our luggage and making our

had to do so I just shadowed behind as we got into line to get through security and bag check and then
to finally make our way onto the plane. And that whole process surprisingly took about 2 3 hours.
I slowly walked onto the plane still with a ton of nervousness and anxiety, filling up my thoughts with

of Mercy and is Atlanta s oldest hospital. The hospital is located in northern Atlanta near the fairly
affluent Sandy Springs area. The facility maintains 410 beds and 750 physicians (St. Joseph, 2012).
The hospital languished with poor financial performance for a while due to lack of a stable customer
base, even though cash reserves have always been strong (CHA, 2011). St Joseph looked for a buyer
for some time but with no luck but that changed when Emory University hospitals bought a 51 percent
share in 2011 (Atlanta Journal Constitution, 2011). The Emory deal did not lead to a change in the
hospitals Catholic affiliation (Catholic Health World, 2011). Atlanta, a metro area of nearly six
million, is fairly diverse in terms of minority population but the greater Sandy Springs area is much
closer to the United States population at large (Census, 2010). As of

Seepage Control in Earthen Dams
Most dams in active use today exhibit seepage of one form or another. The location, rate of flow, and
turbidity (clear or murky) are the critical factors when evaluating the seriousness of seepage from a
dam. Seepage is the continuous movement of water from the upstream face of the dam toward its
downstream face, and is a major minor problem when it comes to the life span of dams and
embankments. It is a major minor problem because if controlled the affects are minor and not
hazardous, but if not controlled it can become a major problem and possibly result in failures.
Conditions of Seepage Most dams have some seepage through or around the embankment as a result
of water moving through the soil structure. If the seepage forces are ... Show more content on

Most failures caused by groundwater and seepage can be classified into one of two categories based
on the type of soil movement that is occurring. The failures will typically develop over a relatively
long period of time so there will be ample warning if routine inspections are performed. The two
categories of failure include those that take place when soil particles migrate to an escape exit and
cause piping or erosion failures, and those that are caused by uncontrolled seepage patterns that lead to
saturation, internal flooding, excessive uplift, or excessive seepage forces.
Controlling Seepage Regularly scheduled monitoring and inspection is essential to detect seepage and
prevent dam failure. Inspections should be made periodically throughout the year. Frequency should
be based on hazard classification of the dam. Higher classified dams should be checked more
common, compared to those that are lower hazard classified. At a minimum all dams should be
visually inspected at least every six months, before a predicted major storm event, during or after
severe rainstorms or snowmelts, and inspected weekly after construction is complete and reservoir
filling is ongoing, and for at least two months after the reservoir has been filled. Dam inspections
performed on a regular basis are the most economical aid a dam owner can use to assure the safety and
long life of the structure while reducing liability risks. If seepage is detected on a

Effect of Asean Economic Integration
ASEAN: The integration effect

The Association of Southeast Asian Nations is gradually bringing the region s economies closer

The trouble hit euro zone is hardly a poster child for regional economic integration, but it has yet to
dent similar single market efforts underway in Southeast Asia.

There is no turning back. It s not just policymakers agreeing on pie in the sky issues; there is a real
demand in the business community to get it right.
Since the region s ninth summit in 2003, when the concept of an ASEAN Community was first
endorsed, GDP has risen from $722 billion to $1.8 trillion in 2010, while GDP per capita more than
doubled to $3,100. Trade also rose twofold to $2.1 trillion, one quarter of which is intra ASEAN trade.
Over the same period, China leapfrogged the US and Japan to become ASEAN s largest trading
partner, accounting for $232 billion in imports and exports in 2010, or 11.3% of the region s total.
Foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows rose from $24.5 billion in 2003 to $76.2 billion in 2010. Intra
ASEAN capital flows have increased more than fourfold, accounting for 16.1% of the regional total in
2010 compared to 11.1% seven years ago. Only the EU contributes more.
It is a matter of debate as to who has benefited most from these developments. We have seen
multinationals take advantage of the FTA, but the problem is small and medium sized enterprises
(SMEs) don t have the manpower and resources to do the same, says Sanchita Basu Das, lead
researcher for economic affairs at the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies (ISEAS) ASEAN Studies
Center in Singapore. Around 90% of firms in the region still fall into this category.

Essay about The Life of Emile Durkheim
Emile Durkheim was French sociologist. He was born on April 15, 1858 in Epinal, France. Epinal is
located in the Eastern French Province, Lorraine. His father, Moise was the Chief Rabbi of Epinal,
Vosges, and Haute Marne, while his mother, Melanie, worked as an embroiderer. Durkheim was the
youngest of their four surviving children. Durkheim s great grandfather, grandfather, and father were
all Jewish rabbis. He was expected to follow suit so at a young age he was sent to a rabbinical school.
He studied Hebrew, the Talmud, the Old Testament, as well as the curriculum taught in secular
schools. Surprisingly his destiny for rabbinate was short lived. He gave up Judaism shortly after his

Durkheim s generation at Ecole Normale Superieur was full of brilliant people. He quickly became a
participant of the political and philosophical debates that characterized the school, though he was
more interested in academics than politics. He found the literary nature of the school to be very
disappointing but became very inspired by two of his teachers, Numa Denis Fustel de Coulanges and
Emile Boutroux. Numa Denis Fustel de Coulanges taught Emile the importance of religion in social
institutions and could be studied rationally and objectively. Emile Boutroux taught him that atomism,
the reduction of phenomena to their smallest constituent parts, was a fallacious methodological
procedure and that each science must explain phenomena in terms of its own specific principles. The
theories he learned later influenced his theories on the subjects. He successfully passed his agrégation,
an exam required to be a teacher in a state secondary school. Durkheim had dedicated his life to a
study of society but since sociology was not a subject at the secondary schools or universities, he
launched his career teaching philosophy in 1882. In 1885 Durkheim took a year of leave to do
research in Germany. While he was there he had a chance to study under Wilhelm Wundt, a pioneering
experimental psychologist. Emile was very impressed by Wilhelm Wundt. In 1887 he returned to
France to become a lecturer in education in sociology at Bordeaux. He had

Natural Monopoly Supplies All for a Lower Price
atural monopoly is a type of monopoly that was because of high fixed or set up cost of operating a
business in an industry. And governments often regulate those in operation, to make sure that every
consumer can get a fair deal. In fact, the size of production that can achieve productive efficiency may
be a high proportion of the total demand of the products in the industry. Natural monopolies are often
associated with industries sector where there is a high ratio of fixed to variable costs. For example, for
a product to establish a national distribution network the fixed cost can be enormous but the marginal
cost of each additional output supply can be very small. Natural monopoly occurs when one large
business can supply the entire market at a lower price than two or more smaller ones, which there
cannot be more than one efficient provider of a good. In this situation, competition might increase
costs and prices. It is an industry where the minimum efficient scale is a large share of total market
demand such there is room for only one firm to fully exploit all of the available internal economies of
scale, and the industry has long run average cost curve falls continuously as output rises. Market
failure is when resources cannot be efficiently allocated due to the fault of price mechanism caused by
factors such as establishment of monopolies. It s also used to describe when market can t satisfy
public interest, and will result of a loss of economic and social welfare.

Analysis Of The Log From The Sea Of Cortez
Enduring Perspectives
By studying the history of Native Americans, we can understand some of their characteristics,
qualities, and perspectives regarding America s landscape. Many of these still persist today in either
the original or a mutated form. The Native American quality of living unsustainably persists today in
various forms because it is difficult to notice an unsustainable lifestyle. John Steinbeck, Barry Lopez,
and Scott Momaday in The Log From the Sea of Cortez, The American Geographies, and The Way to
Rainy Mountain describe this effect.
Today, it is easy to look back and see that Native Americans, including the Micmac, lived
unsustainable lifestyles. The Micmac s economy revolved around trading small animals (e.g. beavers).
Their desire for European goods provided an incentive to deplete the animal population (Merchant
13). A problem with this lifestyle is that it is difficult to know that the animal s population is being
depleted until it is too late.
The Native Americans of the Great Plains centered their economy on the buffalo. The Native
Americans used difficult techniques (e.g. tricking them to fall off cliffs) to catch the buffalo, which
was unsustainable considering how important the Buffalos were for them (Merchant 16). When the
horse arrived the Native Americans became more efficient hunters. However, their lives became less
sustainable because they became dependent on the horse and buffalo population. Again, this is a
problem because it is difficult

important? What steps need to be taken to preserve wildlife? How can one become involved in
wildlife conservation? These are all important questions that need to be explored in order to help

According to David Stauth, towards the end of the 1800s humans began to eradicate the wolf
population in the Yellowstone area. (David Stauth) By 1926 the wolf population was destroyed.
(David Stauth) During the 1800s and 1900s the West was popular for cattle ranches. Ranchers saw the
wolves as pests destroying their profits due to the wolves feeding on the cattle. Thus began the
beginning of the collapse of an ecosystem. With wolves missing from the ecosystem everything
became greatly unbalanced leading to a domino effect. No longer fearing the wolves, elk began to
freely graze which in turn began the destruction of foliage. The foliage destruction affected other
animals that relied on the vegetation for sustenance and shelter. With the lack of vegetation, animals
begin migrating elsewhere for food and harborage. Not only were the wolves gone, other animals
began to either over populate or disappear along with the foliage. Hence the slow beginning of a land
that would eventually become bare of life. One can now understand why wildlife conservation is so
important after learning the effects of simply removing one key element from the ecosystem. To
further this understanding of the importance of wildlife conservation observe the affects of
reintroducing the wolves in Yellowstone . Beginning at the end of 1994 and continuing

Times New Roman Calligraphy
Most people do not take the skill handwriting very seriously. Calligraphy is a subject taught for many
centuries and has adopted by almost every culture. It is a skill that has been around for many centuries
and one that is still used today. Back then, it was a craft that not many people were able to do and was
considered more upper class. Many important documents have been written, using calligraphy, to
signify the document s importance. Even up to this day, calligraphy can be seen almost everywhere;
certificates, diplomas, wedding cards, art, signs, etc. The font used in this paper is Times New Roman,
which is a form of calligraphy that originated from Ancient Roman handwriting. Calligraphy
originates from the Greek word kalligraphia, meaning beautiful writing (Dictoinary.com, 2017). Many
people today associate it with fancy penmanship. In ways, that is true but it could also be the

Creating A Shared Bedroom For Kids
When boys and girls in a family exceed the number of available bedrooms, it becomes necessary to
look for creative ways to divide a shared space. This is especially challenging with a boy and girl must
share the same bedroom, but it can be done with a few clever decorating tips and tricks. Consider the
following creative ways to divide a shared bedroom for kids, and give the kids sharing a room their
very own area to sleep, play, and dress in their own private space. Begin with Paint When searching
for creative ways to divide and decorate a shared bedroom for kids, begin by making a dramatic
statement with color. To define and divide the shared space, apply two colors to divide the bedroom in
half. For example, if a girl and a boy must share a bedroom, paint half of the room a cool shade of
blue. Paint the other half of the shared bedroom a soft shade of lilac. This works well if the colors
share the same intensity. Use a measuring tape and a level to determine each half of the shared
bedroom, and divide it with painter s tape for a neat and clean edge. The shared room will have a
unique and impressive look that will give each child a space to call their own. Visually Divide a
Shared Room with Window Treatments When a window is in the center of a shared wall painted two
different colors, maintain the look by using two different colors of the same style of window
treatments. Buy two sets of the same curtains and valances in colors that will coordinate well with the

Aristotle and Plato are both philosophers and thinkers of...
Aristotle and Plato are both philosophers and thinkers of the Greek tradition but they each came to
very different conclusions about the nature of divinity. Plato s god was subordinate to the ever
important forms while Aristotle s god was selfish. Combined together each of their different
philosophies could probably come pretty close to the ideas of the great monotheistic religions of
today. Although they belong to different philosophical traditions both Plato and Aristotle share many
of the same basic ideas even though their conclusions and ends tend to differ quite a bit from one
another. The main idea which sets apart the thoughts of Plato and Aristotle is that of the forms, which
must be explained to understand Plato s divinity. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another one of Plato s divinities would be the Demiurge or craftsman god which Plato speaks of in
Timaeus. Plato charged this god with the creation of the entire universe. Although the Demiurge is not
higher than the forms Plato still credits the craftsman god with bringing order to the universe and
endowing humans with immortal and intelligent souls. Second to the Demiurge would be lesser gods
which encapsulate the planets in spheres and account for their eternal movement. In summation, Plato
s idea of a god is anything that is immutable, intelligent, and immortal. It is easy to see, then, why
Plato seems to see divinities seemingly everywhere in the universe.
Aristotle has a much different conception of divinity than Plato. His highest divinity is not the forms
but something which he refers to as the unmoved mover, first mover, or prime mover. This prime
mover is the common source of all substance, movement, and change in the universe and it has three
characteristics: it is composed of pure actuality, has no physical matter, and is eternal. It is necessary
for the unmoved mover to be all of these things because his eternality is what allows the universe to be
eternal as well:
It will be no use, then, to assume everlasting substances, as believers in the Forms do, unless these
include some principle capable of initiating change. And even this, or some other type of substance
apart from the Forms, is not sufficient; for if it

Human Sex Ratio At Birth
Introduction According to the statistical predictions and Mendelian law of segregation applied to X
and Y chromosomes, the numbers of boys and girls born are supposed to be equal, so the sex ratio for
humans is expected to be 50:50 (1). However, in the real world, the observed results do not follow this
pattern; the actual values can be as high as 170 boys born to 100 girls (2). The major reason that
supposedly causes such imbalance in human sex ratio at birth is that more male embryos tend to
survive throughout pregnancy (3).
The reason why it is happening is not definitive. The big problem is that not a lot of a research has
been done in this area. Most of the works only confirm the idea of male prevalence at birth, however,
there is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(4)The idea of statistical chance can be eliminated the imbalance in sex ratio at birth is observed
throughout the history, so there definitely should be some mechanism that induces production of more
male embryos than female. Such a trend has been observed not only in humans but among mammals
in general (5).
Another idea explaining male biased sex ratio imbalance at birth has to deal with female after birth
survival advantage (1). The sex ratio from birth to death is gradually turning the opposite direction:
decreasing in males and increasing in females ratios. By the age of 100 there are about four women to
every man (1). Even though female fetuses are assumed to be less likely to survive during pregnancy,
after birth males suffer more fatal disease, take more mortal risks, and are exposed to more violences
than girls. By the time these kids reach their reproduction age, the sex ratio comes to about 1:1. Based
on this trend, it could be evolutionary adaptive to produce more males in order to fix the sex ratio by
the time of the new reproduction wave in order to regulate the size of population and to have equal
parental expenditure (6). That means that this pattern has been naturally selected for and passed and
inherited through generations. However, this idea does not explain the mechanism of this inheritance.
The key to solve this problem might be hidden in genetics. The crucial difference between human
males and

How Does Overfishing Affect The Future
Nearly seventy one percent of Earth is covered by oceans. This massive body of water provides homes

Dante Symphony Essay
Around the year 1855 Franz Liszt began working on the composition for one of his most praised
works, The Dante Symphony. The Dante Symphony is based of Dante s Divina Commedia, which was
introduced to Liszt by his mistress Marie D Agoult. The Symphony is composed of two movements
depicting Dante s Inferno and Purgatorio. At first Liszt wanted to depict the three movements of Dante
s Divina Commedia but an effective representation of Paradise in music, Wagner insisted was
impossible, and he counseled Liszt to abandon plans for an elaborate choral finale (Grey, pg.56).

laughter painted into parts of the symphony, and the first people Dante sees in hell who where neither

  • 2. Anglo Saxon England 4. Vikings in Anglo Saxon England Scandinavian influence The process of Christianization and Latin influx was interrupted at the end of the eight century (787) when the Vikings (Norwegian and Dane tribes) began their ravages over Anglo Saxon England, sacking monasteries like Lindisfarne and Jarrow (793 794). By the ninth century, churches and monasteries in Northumbria and Mercia lay in ruins while settlements in all parts of the country had been plundered and northern towns, such as York in 867, captured. Anglo Saxon kingdoms were finally overturned while the Vikings established their own kingdom in the northeast of England (the Danelaw). Under King Alfred s rule of Wessex (871 899) and despite several conflicts, the Danish were contained in such area. In turn, the Danish king had to convert to Christianism, although the moral fibre of the church was seriously disrupted (Baugh (2005:79). Then Alfred s descendants, Edward the Elder (900 925) and Athelstan (925 939), extended their authority throughout England Athelstan s triumph in 937 in Brunanburh was crucial, which is recorded in an Old English poem with the same name. However, invasions were repeated at the end of the tenth century along the southeast coast, led by the Norwegian and Danish kings, Olaf and Svein respectively, who attacked London. Svein made himself king, sending the English king Æthelred the Unready into exile in Normandy. England was hence ruled by Danish kings from 1014 to 1017, when the Danish ... • 3. Next World War Could Be on Water Next world war could be on WATER Anyone who can solve the problems of water will be worthy of two Nobel prizes one for peace and one for science. John F. Kennedy Water Crisis: Water is a basic requirement for all life, yet water resources are facing more and more demands from, and competition among, users. President Kennedy has expressed the crisis of water in the above said lines so beautifully. According to World Water Council While the world s population tripled in the 20th century, the use of renewable water resources has grown six fold. Within the next fifty years, the world population will increase by another 40 to 50 %. This population growth coupled with industrialization and urbanization will result in an increasing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...  Helps in utilizing the primary source of water and prevent the runoff from going into sewer or storm drains, thereby reducing the load on treatment plants.  Reduces urban flooding.  Recharging water into the aquifers help in improving the quality of existing groundwater through dilution. Situation in India: India is a developing country. The illiteracy rate there is comparatively high. Also water has been a main concern there. Even though the rate of urbanization in India is among the lowest in the world, the nation has more than 250 million city dwellers. Experts predict that this number will rise even further, and by 2020, about 50 per cent of India s population will be living in cities. This is going to put further pressure on the already strained centralized water supply systems of urban areas. (http://www.rainwaterharvesting.org/Crisis/Urbanwater scenario.htm) According to Central Public Health Engineering Organization (CPHEEO) estimates, as on 31 March 2000, 88 per cent of urban population has access to a potable water supply. But this supply is highly erratic and unreliable. Transmission and distribution networks are old and poorly maintained, and generally not trustworthy. The proper conservation of the water is one of the crises that need to be solved immediately else serious consequences may follow. Rain water harvesting in this prospect seems a very ... • 4. The Epidemic Of The Polio Virus With a substantial amount of preventive healthcare advancements behind them, the American medical community turned its attention to the deadly polio virus plaguing America. From 1937 to 1952, known cases of Americans contracting polio skyrocketed from ten thousand to a staggering figure of roughly fifty seven thousand cases. Of those cases within that time period, approximately one thousand five hundred deaths as a result of polio were recorded. In the year 1953, The National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis provided the scientist Dr. Jonas Salk with the tools necessary to research, and develop a working vaccine to combat the devastating polio disease. After much trial and error, Dr. Salk was finally able to create what he felt was a successful polio vaccination, and proceeded to conduct a field test. After resounding success, manufacturing instructions for the Salk vaccine were sent to a series of scientific laboratories for immediate production and administration to American children. The disaster that occurred next will forever be known through American medical history as the Cutter Incident (named so after one of the labs that administered the polio vaccine). This medical crisis sent shockwaves throughout America and the medical community, and numerous lawsuits were filed against Cutter Laboratories, resulting in fewer and fewer labs willing to accept contract work in developing vaccines. Throughout the years, blame has been thrown at every party involved in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Road, By Cormac Mccarthy, And On The Beach Comparative Essay The way the human mind operates is a mystery to all. Through thinking that the mind is something that can be comprehended humans have created the art of psychology and psychiatry, where the inner machinations of one s mind are turned into nothing more than phrases and terms. Between every person there lies a sense of morality, no matter who. The sense of morality is not the same though, as children we learn to feel pain and suffering as others do, and to put the shoes of others on. In the end, it seems, that almost all people brought up well as children, turn out to be the people considered to have a strong sense of morality and can feel what pains some must endure. Though the way being brought up does not define a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Regardless, the journey south continues where they find a house, full of valuables for the cold weather that the boy and father are able to garner. In this short time a group of cannibals arrive to the house they are in, and it is revealed that they are keeping a hoard of humans locked up in a cellar to feast on. Though the father is not as shocked as he would have liked to have been, the boy is absolutely horrified and is the key moment where the boy realizes that the world truly is dead. Both the father and son are able to sneak out of the house undetected, and are forced to wait in a bush near the house to keep from alerting anyone inside of their presence. Once they get back on the road, they stumble upon a patch of land full of apples, and a barn, which has fresh water stored underneath it. The spoils of their journey does the job in refreshing both the father and son, and gets them to their next destination. Arriving at a house that the father has decided they will camp at, he goes to do some exploring. In the exploring he manages to find a bomb shelter, never before plundered for its goods. The father and the boy load their cart full with food and wait a few days to spoil themselves at the bomb shelter. Once back on the road they run into an old man whom does not mean trouble unlike every other character in the road, but instead is seemingly lifeless and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Reconstruction Failed For African Americans Reconstruction failed for African Americans. By the 1890 s all optimism that came as a result of the Constitutional rights guaranteed to them by the 13th, 14th, and 15th amendments was gone. Their reality, particularly for those in the South, was one of lynchings, Jim Crowe laws, and voting restrictions. They faced discrimination, segregation, limited educational opportunities, and a tenant farming system that only slightly differed from slavery. In the early twentieth century, visionaries such as Booker T. Washington, W.E.B. DuBois, and Marcus Garvey recognized the urgent need for change. These great leaders were in agreement that action was required to uplift the African American race. However, their philosophies on how to approach it were vastly different. Born a slave on a Virginia farm, Booker Taliaferro Washington (1856 1915) rose to become one of the most influential African American intellectuals of the late 19th century. He was nine years old when the Civil War ended. He worked hard as a young child and at 16, he left home to attend Hampton Institute. One of the few black high schools in the South, it focused on industrial and agricultural training while maintaining an extremely structured curriculum that stressed discipline and high moral character. Washington thrived in that environment. He eventually went on to head a new school in Tuskegee, Alabama. The Tuskegee Institute was devoted to the training of black teachers, farmers, and skilled workers. Under his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It suited his ironic taste to play the illusionist who leaves his audience staring blankly into a mirror . We see this in Akutagawa story In a Grove because each of three main characters gives conflicting confession, and each have a motivation to possibly lie. Tajomaru was the first of the three main characters to confess, and throughout his confession he is motivated to establish a greater reputation for himself knowing he has nothing to lose. Overall, the paper says that in order to get out of an unhealthy lifestyle, you need to recognize the risks, which require some form of higher education. This kind of ore is formed by the chemical weathering of serpentinite and other igneous rocks. Because of this requirement of weathering, deposits are located mostly in a humid tropical environment (Figure 1). (Butt Cluzel 2013) The major end product of this weathering process will be: hematite, nickeliferous limonitic ore ((Fe,Ni)O(OH).nH2O) and nickeliferous silicate ore ((Ni,Mg)6Si4O10(OH)8). Nickeliferous limonitic ore and nickeliferous silicate ore are the two dominant types of nickel ore. It has gotten to the point where they sought an entity to purchase the hospital and there were no bites for a time. That has since been rectified but the hospital continues to face some struggles as it relates to marketing and long term viability. St. Joseph must make an effort to identify their target markets and then effectively open up lines of communication via marketing to those segments. Facility History and Summary Saint Joseph s hospital was founded in 1880 by Sisters of Mercy and is Atlanta s oldest hospital. The hospital is located in northern Atlanta near the fairly affluent Sandy Springs area. The facility maintains 410 beds and 750 physicians (St. Joseph, 2012). The hospital languished with poor financial performance for a while due to lack of a stable customer base, even though cash reserves have always been strong (CHA, 2011). St Joseph looked for a buyer for some time but with no luck but that changed when Emory University hospitals bought a 51 percent share in 2011 (Atlanta Journal Constitution, 2011). The Emory deal did not lead to a change in the hospitals Catholic affiliation (Catholic Health World, 2011). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Most failures caused by groundwater and seepage can be classified into one of two categories based on the type of soil movement that is occurring. The failures will typically develop over a relatively long period of time so there will be ample warning if routine inspections are performed. The two categories of failure include those that take place when soil particles migrate to an escape exit and cause piping or erosion failures, and those that are caused by uncontrolled seepage patterns that lead to saturation, internal flooding, excessive uplift, or excessive seepage forces. Controlling Seepage Regularly scheduled monitoring and inspection is essential to detect seepage and prevent dam failure. Inspections should be made periodically throughout the year. Frequency should be based on hazard classification of the dam. Higher classified dams should be checked more common, compared to those that are lower hazard classified. At a minimum all dams should be visually inspected at least every six months, before a predicted major storm event, during or after severe rainstorms or snowmelts, and inspected weekly after construction is complete and reservoir filling is ongoing, and for at least two months after the reservoir has been filled. • 30. Analysis Of The Log From The Sea Of Cortez Enduring Perspectives By studying the history of Native Americans, we can understand some of their characteristics, qualities, and perspectives regarding America s landscape. Many of these still persist today in either the original or a mutated form. The Native American quality of living unsustainably persists today in various forms because it is difficult to notice an unsustainable lifestyle. John Steinbeck, Barry Lopez, and Scott Momaday in The Log From the Sea of Cortez, The American Geographies, and The Way to Rainy Mountain describe this effect. Today, it is easy to look back and see that Native Americans, including the Micmac, lived unsustainable lifestyles. The Micmac s economy revolved around trading small animals (e.g. beavers). Their desire for European goods provided an incentive to deplete the animal population (Merchant 13). A problem with this lifestyle is that it is difficult to know that the animal s population is being depleted until it is too late. The Native Americans of the Great Plains centered their economy on the buffalo. The Native Americans used difficult techniques (e.g. tricking them to fall off cliffs) to catch the buffalo, which was unsustainable considering how important the Buffalos were for them (Merchant 16). When the horse arrived the Native Americans became more efficient hunters. However, their lives became less sustainable because they became dependent on the horse and buffalo population. Again, this is a problem because it is difficult ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

According to David Stauth, towards the end of the 1800s humans began to eradicate the wolf population in the Yellowstone area. (David Stauth) By 1926 the wolf population was destroyed. (David Stauth) During the 1800s and 1900s the West was popular for cattle ranches. Ranchers saw the wolves as pests destroying their profits due to the wolves feeding on the cattle. Thus began the beginning of the collapse of an ecosystem. With wolves missing from the ecosystem everything became greatly unbalanced leading to a domino effect. No longer fearing the wolves, elk began to freely graze which in turn began the destruction of foliage. The foliage destruction affected other animals that relied on the vegetation for sustenance and shelter. With the lack of vegetation, animals begin migrating elsewhere for food and harborage. Not only were the wolves gone, other animals began to either over populate or disappear along with the foliage. Hence the slow beginning of a land that would eventually become bare of life. One can now understand why wildlife conservation is so important after learning the effects of simply removing one key element from the ecosystem. To further this understanding of the importance of wildlife conservation observe the affects of reintroducing the wolves in Yellowstone . Beginning at the end of 1994 and continuing ... • 34. Creating A Shared Bedroom For Kids When boys and girls in a family exceed the number of available bedrooms, it becomes necessary to look for creative ways to divide a shared space. This is especially challenging with a boy and girl must share the same bedroom, but it can be done with a few clever decorating tips and tricks. Consider the following creative ways to divide a shared bedroom for kids, and give the kids sharing a room their very own area to sleep, play, and dress in their own private space. Begin with Paint When searching for creative ways to divide and decorate a shared bedroom for kids, begin by making a dramatic statement with color. To define and divide the shared space, apply two colors to divide the bedroom in half. For example, if a girl and a boy must share a bedroom, paint half of the room a cool shade of blue. Paint the other half of the shared bedroom a soft shade of lilac. This works well if the colors share the same intensity. Use a measuring tape and a level to determine each half of the shared bedroom, and divide it with painter s tape for a neat and clean edge. The shared room will have a unique and impressive look that will give each child a space to call their own. Visually Divide a Shared Room with Window Treatments When a window is in the center of a shared wall painted two different colors, maintain the look by using two different colors of the same style of window treatments. • 35. Aristotle and Plato are both philosophers and thinkers of... Aristotle and Plato are both philosophers and thinkers of the Greek tradition but they each came to very different conclusions about the nature of divinity. Plato s god was subordinate to the ever important forms while Aristotle s god was selfish. Combined together each of their different philosophies could probably come pretty close to the ideas of the great monotheistic religions of today. Although they belong to different philosophical traditions both Plato and Aristotle share many of the same basic ideas even though their conclusions and ends tend to differ quite a bit from one another. The main idea which sets apart the thoughts of Plato and Aristotle is that of the forms, which must be explained to understand Plato s divinity. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another one of Plato s divinities would be the Demiurge or craftsman god which Plato speaks of in Timaeus. Plato charged this god with the creation of the entire universe. Although the Demiurge is not higher than the forms Plato still credits the craftsman god with bringing order to the universe and endowing humans with immortal and intelligent souls. Second to the Demiurge would be lesser gods which encapsulate the planets in spheres and account for their eternal movement. In summation, Plato s idea of a god is anything that is immutable, intelligent, and immortal. It is easy to see, then, why Plato seems to see divinities seemingly everywhere in the universe. Aristotle has a much different conception of divinity than Plato. His highest divinity is not the forms but something which he refers to as the unmoved mover, first mover, or prime mover. This prime mover is the common source of all substance, movement, and change in the universe and it has three characteristics: it is composed of pure actuality, has no physical matter, and is eternal. It is necessary for the unmoved mover to be all of these things because his eternality is what allows the universe to be eternal as well: It will be no use, then, to assume everlasting substances, as believers in the Forms do, unless these include some principle capable of initiating change. And even this, or some other type of substance apart from the Forms, is not sufficient; for if it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 37. Human Sex Ratio At Birth Introduction According to the statistical predictions and Mendelian law of segregation applied to X and Y chromosomes, the numbers of boys and girls born are supposed to be equal, so the sex ratio for humans is expected to be 50:50 (1). However, in the real world, the observed results do not follow this pattern; the actual values can be as high as 170 boys born to 100 girls (2). The major reason that supposedly causes such imbalance in human sex ratio at birth is that more male embryos tend to survive throughout pregnancy (3). The reason why it is happening is not definitive. The big problem is that not a lot of a research has been done in this area. Most of the works only confirm the idea of male prevalence at birth, however, there is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (4)The idea of statistical chance can be eliminated the imbalance in sex ratio at birth is observed throughout the history, so there definitely should be some mechanism that induces production of more male embryos than female. Such a trend has been observed not only in humans but among mammals in general (5). Another idea explaining male biased sex ratio imbalance at birth has to deal with female after birth survival advantage (1). The sex ratio from birth to death is gradually turning the opposite direction: decreasing in males and increasing in females ratios. By the age of 100 there are about four women to every man (1). Even though female fetuses are assumed to be less likely to survive during pregnancy, after birth males suffer more fatal disease, take more mortal risks, and are exposed to more violences than girls. By the time these kids reach their reproduction age, the sex ratio comes to about 1:1. Based on this trend, it could be evolutionary adaptive to produce more males in order to fix the sex ratio by the time of the new reproduction wave in order to regulate the size of population and to have equal parental expenditure (6). That means that this pattern has been naturally selected for and passed and inherited through generations. However, this idea does not explain the mechanism of this inheritance. The key to solve this problem might be hidden in genetics. The crucial difference between human males and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Dante Symphony is based of Dante s Divina Commedia, which was introduced to Liszt by his mistress Marie D Agoult. The Symphony is composed of two movements depicting Dante s Inferno and Purgatorio. At first Liszt wanted to depict the three movements of Dante s Divina Commedia but an effective representation of Paradise in music, Wagner insisted was impossible, and he counseled Liszt to abandon plans for an elaborate choral finale (Grey, pg.56). After the three themes have been depicted there is a descent motif which word paints or reflects Dante and Virgil as they descend into hell.
