East Los Angeles College Student Analysis
Although named East Los Angeles College(ELAC), ELAC is actually located in Monterey Park,
California. Monterey Park is located 30 miles east of Downtown Los Angeles, and has the largest
concentration of Chinese Americans in the US. I was raised and born in Monterey Park and when I
graduated high school, I enrolled at the local community college. Two years of working as a tutor at
the ELAC Writing Center taught me the importance of literature and teaching literature. As a tutor, I
learned the necessity to analyze, assess, and appeal to not only the student but their learning needs as
well. Most importantly, I learned that before a teacher can impact their students they must understand
the student s environment.
While being the largest community ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughout my educational career, I have been taught English from a dominant perspective that
ignored issues of class, race and gender. I have witnessed many students, including myself, become
disinterested in great works because there is no personal connection to the texts. My hopes are to
widen the paradigm so that more students can become interested in English and see how reading,
analysis, and writing can develop not only one s understanding of their society, but also themselves. I
acknowledge that every student works and thinks differently; therefore, it should be the teacher s
responsibility to provide necessary resources that will develop each individual s their composition
skills accordingly. I often tell myself, I am teaching for the students who do not want to be there in the
classroom . With disengaged students in mind, I want to push myself to provide a learning experience
that is pluralistic, informative and inspirational. Teachers should see their role not as expert, but as
someone engaged in reciprocal learning and dialogue with students. To appeal to disinterested
students, teachers must explain how writing and rhetoric is necessary in all fields by explaining how
English cultivates strong communication skills, which are necessary in everyday life. A teacher s goal
should be to motivate students to begin a personal exploration toward effective, ethical

Review Of Pipilotti Rist s Pepperminta
0:10:04 0:02:04 On its surface, Pipilotti Rist s Pepperminta depicts a free spirited woman who
liberates the members of her community with the power of ecstatic imagination; however, a more
esoteric interpretation points to a film that is first and foremost a depiction of the psychedelic
experience. Though the entire collection of evidence supporting this theory is beyond the scope of this
analysis, there is ample evidence within one short sequence to substantiate the premise. The film
stands out in its use of color, cinematography, and editing to create an imaginative world in which the
characters are free to play. The same techniques also overtly resemble the effects of psychedelic
substances such as lysergic diethylamide (LSD/Acid) and psilocybin mushrooms. In addition, the
narrative, script, and mis en scene contain clues that may go unnoticed to non drug users, but that
certainly point to hallucinogenic substances. Firstly, let us use the effects of psilocybin mushrooms to
characterize the psychedelic experience. These effects include but are not limited to: Euphoria,
philosophical thinking, intense feelings of wonder, starring and rainbow patterns, colors brighten or
alter, visual hallucinations, sensation of energy within body, and feelings of connection with the
universe. Each of these are displayed by Pepperminta by a combination of cinematography and post
production editing and after effects. The sequence begins with the titular character pinwheeling

Life In The 21st Century
The world is changing, and changing fast. Technology, education, health, eating habits, dress there is
hardly anything in life that is not changing, some changes we like, while others create fear and
anxiety. Several predictions were made that the world will end in 2012 based on the rollover of the
Mayan calendar but all these forecasting were proved to be fictitious. On the contrary we are living in
the 21st century, 2025 and the world has changed tremendously in the last 13 years. The world has
been transformed by the digital revolution and advances in medicine and human knowledge. The
present day civilization stands on two legs, one is spirituality, and the other is science.
Today, I woke up and have a coffee. My eyes got baffled to the digital newspaper headlines and it was
written that Colonization on Mars has begun . Then suddenly I remembered my old days when
newspapers were printed on papers. Technology has changed every aspect of life. Now people are
going to live on Mars and the problem of over population has been solved. Then I got ready and
proceed towards my office. Earlier we have to catch an auto or bus to reach our destination and now
the transportation has become so simple that we can travel from one place to another with ease. Being
as an engineer in Metro Services I feel proud to work there because it has solved the transportation
problem. While sitting in the metro I saw the streets which were so clean that not even a single paper
was thrown away. At

Comparing Opera Seria to Orfeo Ed Euridice by Gluck and...
Orfeo ed Euridice by Gluck, was written in 1762 and The Marriage of Figaro by Mozart was written
in 1786. It is interesting to analyse the changes and developments from opera seria to these two
examples.
During the eighteenth century, composers wrote in a style of opera called opera seria. Opera seria had
the following characteristics:
They used similar plots involving a hero and usually some sort of conflict of human passions, and
these operas were often based on a story from an ancient Greek or Latin Author. The opera always
consisted of three acts with alternating recitatives and arias. To show the virtuosic skill of the singer,
cadenzas were used within arias. The action was created from the dialogue within the recitatives, ...

There were also stricter demands of the solo singers. The two mid eighteenth century composers,
Jomelli and Traetta played a big part in the reform of Italian opera in the late 18th century by
influencing the French towards opera of a more international flavour.
Born in Bohemia, Gluck built a more international style of opera. He was strongly affected by the
movement of the reform in the 1750s. He became court composer to the Emperor at Vienna after visits
to London and studying under Samartini in Italy. After a collaboration with a poet named Raniero
Calzabigi, Gluck composed two of his famous operas, `Orfeo ed Euridice in 1762 and `Alceste in
1767. Gluck s aims were to remove the unpopular characteristics of opera seria, as shown by his
famous quote:
To confine music to its proper function of serving the poetry for the expression and the situations of
the plot
He removed the overuse of da capo aria or the showing off desire of the singer; he also broke down
the contrast of the recitative and aria and gave his opera more dramatic relevance than had been the
case in opera seria:
I believed that my greatest effort should be directed to seek in a beautiful simplicity ...and there is no
accepted rule that I have not thought should be gladly sacrificed in favour of effectiveness.
One important way, in which Gluck reformed opera, was the use of his choruses as we can see in the
beginning of Orfeo ed Euridice. Example below.

Jeremiah Vs Ezekiel
Among the Old Testament prophets, Jeremiah and Ezekiel are probably the most outstanding ones.
Living in the same historical period, witnessing and being part of tragic, crucial changes in the Judas
history, having a similar background, these two men still differ a lot in their views, lifestyle and way
of prophesying.
Jeremiah was likely born between 650 and 645 B.C. not far from Jerusalem in a family of a priest and
was by being trained for holy service in the priesthood was prepared for his future role. Jeremiah s
contemporary Ezekiel also had the priestly background and was a functioning priest probably attached
to Jerusalem Temple staff, but his prophetic ministry developed in Babylon as he was exiled several
years before Jerusalem fall. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It contains a lot of historical and biographical material in addition to the prophet s own words, and
from all this, his personality is revealed. The Book makes a pessimistic impression, as Jeremiah is
persistent in challenging dishonesty and hypocrisy. When being called he is unsure of his ability to
speak in the name of God, but the Lord reassures him, giving the promise of support. Jeremiah starts
prophesying the future fall of Jerusalem and his role after it is to bring his word to the Jews in exile as
well, so here he develops a theology of repentance, exile and restoration. At the same time, Jeremiah
stays in the ruined city, encouraging the new ruler and the people, explaining what happened and
providing the directions for further actions. The final chapters mostly describe God s judgements for
other nations and the prediction of punishment for

Taking a Look at Emmanuel College
Founded 1584 by Sir Walter Mildmay. Named after Jesus (Emmanuel). Sister College Exeter College
Oxford. Men and Women Undergraduates 487 Postgraduates 140. Emmanuel College, affectionately
referred to as Emma, only ever gives the casual passer by a brief glimpse of its gorgeous site, keeping
most of its vast spaces a secret. Hidden behind the college owned houses and high walls, is a lush and
green site complete with a lake containing giant fish and cherished ducks; neither ever having featured
on the hall menu. There is some dispute with Lady Margaret Hall in Oxford as to who produces the
most intelligent mallards in the country. The informal gardens, known as the Paddock, provide the
social epicentre in the warmer weather and students are allowed to work and play on the grass. This
contrasts with the formal Front Court, which is sacrosanct and only ducks and the occasional fellow
are allowed to venture. The snowmen that appear, as if by magic, in the bleak mid winter nights are
tolerated as long as they deliver their essays on time. Strong equal opportunities policy The college is
right in the city centre next to the bus station and is home to 140 postgraduates and 487

Insanity And The Insanity Defense
The purpose of this essay is to explain why the insanity plea, or the insanity defense as it is also
known, is not a legitimate defense for any type of crime. The insanity defense has been around for a
number of years but does it make a mockery of the legal system? While many people have used the
insanity defense, it loses more times than it wins. This defense is used when someone believes they
did not know right from wrong while committing the crime. The problem with this is that it is hard to
know someone s mental state when there is not much evidence to go on. Someone can become
mentally ill after a crime or someone may have been mentally ill before a crime. Neither one of these
issues always weigh on the actual crime. A large ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While it is important to note that there are certain behaviors that are found to be common when
someone is depressed, depression does not facilitate itself the same way in all people. The National
Institute of Mental Health (n.d.) tells us, People with depressive illnesses do not all experience the
same symptoms. The severity, frequency, and duration of symptoms vary depending on the individual
and his or her particular illness. Understanding that there are so many different interpretations of the
word insanity, it could be argued that knowing the difference between right and wrong is not always
clear. The following syllogistic formula can be considered when thinking about this topic:
Major Premise: All people who plead insanity are admitting to a mental disease or defect.
Minor Premise: If a person has a mental disease or defect, it does not mean that he/she cannot tell
right from wrong.
Conclusion: If a person uses an insanity defense, it does not mean that he/she did not know right from
wrong while committing the crime.

beautiful residence. Not only does he pay close attention to the automobiles, but the Atmospheric

How Democracy Is The Only System Of Governance
During my investigation for the CIA I visited several autocracies, some successful, some not. I also
visited several democracies some struggling and some unrivaled in their success. Although there are
cons of each system of government I have come to the conclusion that democracy is the only system
of governance that would fit best with the United States of America and set it up for success in the
future. Democracy is defined as a government by the people; a form of government in which the
supreme power is vested in the people and exercised directly by them or by their elected agents under
a free electoral system. 1 The United States of America is meant to be ruled by many instead of a
select few. A broad participation in government now more than ever is key in order to get through
these tough times and come out a stronger more resilient country. A democracy will not be as easy or
as clean cut as a autocracy but it will be the right thing to do for the country s success in the long run,
socially, economically and to stay the strong world power that we are. In democracy the right
decisions may not be made all the time. But there tends to be a happy medium that makes sure
everyone gets a little bit of what they wanted in a democracy. Instead of one person or a small group
of people controlling the country a democracy is a collaboration of many different groups and ideas.
As a specialist in my field I feel like these qualities that democracy gives to the government is key to

To Kill A Mockingbird And Persepolis Comparison Essay
Compare how the composers of To Kill a Mockingbird and Persepolis use characterisation to explore
the conflict between personal and public worlds.
Everyone is different, has their own personality and views but it is not an uncommon occurrence when
their way of thinking clashes or is challenged with others. Harper Lee s novel To Kill a Mockingbird
(T.K.A.M) and Marjane Satrapi s graphic novel Persepolis, while set in different time periods, explore
similar issues of discrimination which are shown through techniques used by the authors.
In both books, Harper Lee and Marjane Satrapi have built their stories around young female
protagonists, Scout a hard headed and impressionable tomboy from T.K.A.M and Marjane from
Persepolis. By having the stories be narrated from a child s perspective, it allows readers to understand
the characters unsophisticated and open minds. While living in different settings and having separate
values, both Scout and Marjane come across aspects of sexism and misogyny. From a young age,
Scout had learnt from her older brother, Jem, that things associating with girls are bad and things
associating with boys are good, Jem told me I was being a girl, that girls always imagined things, that
s why other people hated them so, and if I started behaving like one I could just go off and find some
to play with. (Ch.4, Pg.45) When Scout was two, her mother died of a sudden heart attack so she
never had any major female influences or role models growing up.

The Theme Of Water In Arthur Golden s Memoirs Of A Geisha
From 1920 to present times, geisha numbers in Japan have dwindled from 80,000 to 150. In the words
of Memoirs of a Geisha s film adaptation, [Geisha] sell [their] skills, not [their] bodies...The very
word geisha means artist and to be a geisha is to be judge as a moving work of art. The differences and
similarities between Arthur Golden s Memoirs of a Geisha and its movie adaptation certainly raise the
book in preference over the movie. Chiyo/Sayuri s childhood background, Chiyo s encounters with the
Chairman, and the symbolism of water are all significant details in the story of Sayuri Nitta.
Chiyo Sakamoto is born in Yoroido, Japan. With her mother sick and her father growing older every
day, she believes Mr. Tanaka is her liberator. Little does she know that, at the tender age of nine, she is
to be ripped from her poor, simple life and sold to an okiya in Gion. And at the age of fourteen, Chiyo

Essay about The Controversy Over the Electoral College...
The Controversy Over the Electoral College System
A number of Americans fail to realize that when they vote they are not voting for the president and
vice president directly, but for electors who then cast their ballots in the Electoral College. Until the
recent battle between Gov. George W. Bush and Vice president Al Gore for the presidency, this new
generation of American voters has never witnessed a controversial election. Historically, there have
been problematic elections allowing voters to question this system. The Electoral College is now a
process open to criticism and debate, specifically because many do not understand its origin or
purpose today. On November 7, 2000, Election Day, I was excited to become an official voter. ...

Yet in the morning, I learn that Florida is again announced too close to call because by Florida law, the
percentage difference between the candidates was so marginal, a recount was necessary. Is this
possible to have such a close race and no president announced on Election Day? Because Al Gore had
a slim lead in the popular vote, the decision of which candidate receives the electoral votes in Florida
seemed irrelevant to the people. However, there have been many presidents who have merely won the
plurality vote, meaning they have not received a majority of the popular vote, but electoral votes,
therefore becoming minority presidents. John Quincy Adams, with 30.92 percent of the popular vote

Representatives. Even Abraham Lincoln became a minority president in the election of 1860. He

The Impact that Physical Education Can Have on Encouraging...
One of the definitions of Physical Education is; regular instruction in physical exercise and games in
schools and other institutions (Oxford English Dictionary). It is compulsory in the UK for every child
up to the age of 16. Physical Education has been adapted immensely to fit the needs of young people
and is still continuing to change. There are an increasing number of young people leading sedentary
lifestyles by watching television instead of doing physical activity (British Heart Foundation, 2012).
In this essay, ideas have been challenged and there is a distinct argument about the impact that PE can

From 1992 until 2008, the different forms of the National Curriculum for Physical Education have
been focused around the notion of Sport and Performance. There was a strong emphasis on
competition and finding elite performers which may not be an ideal approach. Many children dislike
the competitive element of sport and would rather take part for personal or social reasons. This
wouldn t encourage young people to sustain physical activity levels as they may not want to compete
and have only seen physical activity in a competitive light. In 2008, the new National Curriculum was
launched and its priority was given to health and physical activity rather than sport. This reduced the
amount of competitive elements and made it more about taking part. Some would say that the 4th
NCPE was seen as successful as in 2007, 17% of boys and 16% of girls aged 2 15 were classified as
obese and this decreased as in 2009, 16% of boys and 15% of girls aged 2 15 were seen as obese
(Statistics on Obesity, Physical Activity and Diet England, 2009 and 2011). This slight decrease could
be down to the change in the type of activities offered in school although it may not be the only factor.
Giving young people the opportunity to set personal goals rather than basing everything around
competition would promote life long participation in physical activity as they will get a sense of
achievement from completing that specific goal. However, this focus on health and

Country Music Has Gone Through Many Phases Of Different...
Country music has gone through many phases of different musical styles including the honky tonk
style and more modern pop country style. More recently, mainstream country has continued to define
itself through bringing all these different styles together and relying on each of them. This genre of
music faces issues relating to its original classification as being working class music , being in
opposition to homosexuality and its portrayal and absence of women. Often times I have heard people
say that they prefer all genres of music, except country. Growing up I always listened to country music
due to the fact that my mom and our family friends often listen to it, therefore I never understood why
it unveiled such a negative reaction for most people. Oftentimes I find myself excluding my
enjoyment of country music to others simply to avoid their surprised reactions. While I realize how
people may be closed off to country music because of the labels that have been imposed upon it in
common discourse and media, I often would like to point out that modern country music that is played
on the radio today is often very different from more traditional country music played many years ago,
and is not that much different from pop and rock sounds. These issues of class divide, homosexuality
and the role of women must be looked upon in relation to contemporary country music, which can be
considered a more relevant discussion. From country music s roots stemming from Folk and Blues

music as we see it today. Their individualism and creativity influenced much of their time and
together, their works defined the Baroque Period as we know it today. Johann Sebastian Bach, born in

His career includes 42 operas, 29 oratorios, 16 organ concerti, over 120 cantatas, trios and duets,
chamber music, odes, and many ecumenical pieces, his most famous work being the Oratorio
Messiah. Composed in 1741, the oratorio was preformed first in Dublin in 1742. It had a scriptural
text from the King James Bible and was written for modest vocal and instrumental forces. The work,
although very much in the style of Handel, is a series of thoughts on the Christian idea of redemption
and utilizes a mixture of traditions. After Handel s death in 1759, the Oratorio began to gain popularity
even further and was adapted to larger scale choirs and orchestras. Handel has very much influenced
the world of music, especially through his operas, and has grown in popularity throughout the years.
As the inventor of English Oratorios and being so well known for his Italian operas his style and
influence is felt around the world even still in the music of today. So where are the similarities
between these two composers? Both being German and born in the same year, both excelled at organ
and studied the music of German and Italian composers. Being masters at counterpoint, both exhibited
similarities in their skills and styles. Aside from Bach s absence from opera, both composers had
remarkable influence on nearly every contemporary genre. They both made huge impressions on
keyboard pieces, being exceptionally skilled at organ.

Essay on The Economic Impact of the Mexican Peso Crisis
In 1994, the world saw the decline of the Mexican Peso, leading to what is now considered as the
Mexican Peso Crisis. The crisis was characterized by the drastic decline in the value of the Mexican
Peso. The Mexican Peso Crisis is considered significant because of its impact on other parts of the
region, including Brazil. The following is a discussion of the causes and impact of the Mexican Peso
Crisis.
The events/causes that led up to the devaluation of the peso

It should be noted, prior to the crisis, there was already an increasing concern of economists and
critics about the credit quality that was provided by the financial sector at the time when there was low
interest rates that were applied by the government. There were also issues about the inappropriateness
or ineffectiveness of the standards that were used in extending credit by the financial sector (Calvo,
171).
Another important factor that affected the financial sector and would eventually contribute to the
development of the Mexican Peso Crisis was that the risk premium of the Mexican economy was
significantly impacted by the armed conflicts that happened in Chiapas at that time. This armed
conflict led to a decline in investor confidence about business in Mexico, such that there was a decline
in the investment potential of the region (Mathur, 18).
In addition, in the decade leading to 1994, the government saw an increasing expenditure for various
projects in the country. The result was an increased reduction in the funds of the government. Another
more important factor was that the country experienced hyperinflation from 1985 through 1993. This
period was also characterized by significant increases in debt loads of the financial sector, as well as
the low oil prices that also contributed to the weakening of the Mexican economy (Mathur, 18). One
would argue that the Mexican

The Apostle John, the one Jesus loved was said to have lived longer than any of the twelve Apostles
after the death and resurrection of Christ. The Gospel in his name provides one of the most commonly

The Digestive System Of Digestion Essay
Digestion is the breaking apart of foods into smaller and smaller units and absorbtion is the
movements of those small units from the gut into the bloodstream or lymphatic system for circulation.
(1) The digestive system is what keeps you going from day to day because without the digestive
system you wouldn t be able to consume anything. You also wouldn t be able to absorb the necessary
nutrients you need for your body to keep functioning correctly. The organs that play a role in the
digestive system is the mouth, esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine, appendix, rectum,
liver, gallbladder, pancreas, and the anal canal. The mouth is where it all starts. Before you even take a
bite of your food, the smell of the food is what triggers your salivary glands which include the parotid,
sublingual, and submandibular glands in your mouth making it start to water. Your saliva increases
when you taste the food. When you chew the food into smaller pieces the enzyme amylase breaks food
into small sugar molecules. To start fat digestion another enzyme is released at the base of the tongue
called lingual lipase. A bolus is easy to swallow and is formed when saliva and other fluids in the
mouth mixed with mucous. Bolus slides past the epiglottis and then goes through the esophagus and to
the stomach where it is then digested. The esophagus is a muscular tube connecting the pharynx to the
stomach that is part of the upper gastrointestinal tract. (4) This organ carries the

Research Paper On The Book Of Job
Throughout the bible there have been countless individuals and masses that have suffered by the hands
of God. One that immediately comes to mind is Job. Job had lied in misery for several painful months.
He carried the grief and loss of sons, daughters, friends, relationships, and even his own wife. The
book of Job deals with the issue of suffering and God s position in the matter. Being a rich farmer, as
Job was, would allow us to assume that he was a hard working man that was provided for and was in
need of nothing. Job s story is a testament to faith in God when things are no longer in one s own
favor. The argument of this paper is that the exact testament of faith Job goes through is a violent one,

As we have seen, God promises a blessing to those who trust in His word and strive to live by it.
Christians do not want to miss out on God s blessing, especially those waiting for Him to reveal
something. Now reading any book of the Bible, even Job, one begins to understand that God will bless
you as you strive to study and practice His way of life. The Bible prophetically warns of even more
pain in many different forms then what is done here Job, and through this we begin to portray God in a
different light (Janzen 2012). However, the book of Job reveals God s level of intervention during
such a violent time. Due to the context and dire situation it would be difficult to imagine anything
more then the pain for the members of Job s family and the community at that time. They needed
encouragement and the assurance that the trials Job faced would soon be over. The evil powers of
Satan that governed Job s life for a moment would be destroyed, and a triumphant sense of peace
would be reestablished. The message of Job was intended for those in a particular time and
circumstances of pain. Christians familiar with other violent writings would understand the book s
symbolism, for practically everything Job went through was a test that other biblical figures felt
during similar times of persecution. Job s story was written to all people that may face the same trials,

Analysis Of A Good Man Is Hard To Find By Flannery O Connor
While O Connor clearly feels Christ is all, The Misfit thinks he is managing fine without Him. When
The Misfit shoots the grandmother he is recoiling from whatever grace she offers. He is rejecting not
just any warmth conveyed in the touch, but also the revolting world she represents and the repulsive
notion that he is her child. With good reason, The
Misfit is unwilling to be adopted by this grandmother.
Essentially, the story is a stronger indictment of the grandmother and her pathetic view of life than oí

What Are Ah Goong s Achievements In The Book China Men
Weekly Reflection: Week 11 China Men Question #2 Known for her notable achievements in memoirs

Chinese men in her family. One story distinguishes the heroic journey of grandfather Ah Goong. Ah
Goong worked to build the railroad, but was driven out when it was completed in 1869; he then
became a homeless wanderer in San Francisco. Upon hearing this fact, Kingston s family called him
Fleaman as they did not understand his accomplishments as an American ancestor, a holding, homing

The Effects Of Visual Aids On Children
Throughout the many many years of marketing companies have used visual aids to attract their desired
audiences, in doing doing this they tend to reinforce gender stereotypes whether they did it
purposefully or not. One advertisement that enforces the everyday gender norm is a Hans socks
commercial from 2009, In the commercial you have the Father the son, and the mother in the same
room, the father is dipping his son s foot within a bucket of white paste in order to create socks that
comfortably fit them perfectly, the mother states that the idea is stupid and hands the son and the
father Hans socks that she conveniently bought for them on her way home. In the Hans commercial,
the father plays the idiotic role, the son plays the role of doing whatever there father thinks is a smart
idea, and the mother is the one that has the common sense in the family and she saves the day.
Companies tend to manifest gender roles when commercializing a product, from car companies using
male drivers, following the males are better drivers stereotype, majority of the time to showcase their
latest automotive vehicles, and vacuum selling companies using women, emphasizing the women are
the housewives stereotype, to display their products and the infant son being seeing as energetic is
usually playing with the latest sports toy, and the daughter is playing with the new baking toys or
dolls.

The Waterfall Method And The Agile Methods Of Development

Compare and Contrast the Waterfall Method and the Agile Methods of Development As it is with all
decisions we make in the day, there are often multiple opportunities which often times lead to a single
outcome. Such decisions as, Do I take the turnpike today can have such a profound impact on the
outcomes. Will you hit traffic on turnpike and as a result miss a meeting. If you go the backway do

At no point in the process development can the next phase begin until the previous phase is
completed. This is how the waterfall method received its name, it begins at the top and works its way
down towards the bottom, and at no point can the process be reversed. Youssef Bassil in his article
titled A Simulation Model for the Waterfall Software Development Life Cycle , defines the water fall
method as the following, The Waterfall model defines several consecutive phases that must be
completed one after the other and moving to the next phase only when its preceding phase is
completely done. For this reason, the Waterfall model is recursive in that each phase can be endlessly
repeated until it is perfected. There are certain situations where the waterfall method is advantageous
in application and that involves the following; a short time frame, there3 are no unclear expectations,
the technology is understood, the requirements are fixed and the product propose is stable.
There are distinct requirements of each phase in the water fall method, and the application of theses
requirements often dictate the success or failure of any development project. The first phase is
described as gathering and analysis which outlines and documents all possible requirements for the
system being developed. This includes the

Education Training
Education, in its broadest sense, refers to the ways in which people learn skills and gain knowledge
and understanding about the world, and about themselves. One useful scheme for discussing education
is to divide these ways of learning into three types formal, informal and nonformal.
Formal education is instruction given in school. It is often called schooling. In most countries, people
enter a system of formal education during their early childhood. In this type of education, the people
in charge of a school decide what to teach, and learners then study those things under the direction of
teachers. Learners are expected to come to school regularly and on time., to work at about the same

it teaches a student to investigate all sides of a question and all possible solutions to a problem before
reaching a conclusion or planning a course of action. The branches of learning that aid in this
development are called the liberal arts. These branches include the humanities, mathematics, and the
biological, physical, and social sciences.
Vocational education aim primary at preparing individuals for a job. Some secondary school specialize
in vocational programmes. Technical schools are vocational secondary schools that are specially
equipped to teach more technical subjects, such as carpentry, metalwork, and electronics. Technical
school students are also required to take some general education sourses. Technical colleges and
specialized schools offer advanced vocational and technical training. Universities and separate
professional schools prepare students for careers in such fields as agriculture, architecture, business,
engineering, law, medicine, music, nursing, pharmacy, teaching and theology. Many businesses and
industries offer formal vocational training for their employees.
Special education provides educational opportunities for handicapped or gifted people. Most countries
support special education programmes for people who are blind, deaf, emotionally disturbed,
physically handicapped, or mentally handicapped. Some local school systems also aid gifted students.

Fear And Manipulation In Shakespeare s Othello
Jealousy has caused many problems throughout many peoples lives. The way one copes with the
effects of this file disease can cause them to do obscene things they regret in order to insure there
satisfaction about the situation. Manipulating someone who is ignorant to the fact that what someone
is saying is ludacris, can lead to that person fearing that what they are saying is true and get jealous. In
the play Othello, by William Shakespeare, the effects of fear and manipulation leads to a jealous mind,
forcing the characters to turn on the person they love, and later turning them into a evil fiend.
Othello s fear that Desdemona has slept with another man causes him to assume the worse and kill his
beloved wife. Othello never knew for sure that his wife had cheated on him but he was manipulated by
Iago into thinking that his wife had committed adultery. In the article Romantic Jealousy: Emotions

Internet Freedom And Political Oppression
An immensely prominent aspect of today s society is technology, which has provided the world with
the internet. Though the internet has provided many positive benefits, it has also brought along many
negative aspects. In Evgeny Morozov s article, Technology s Role in Revolution. Internet Freedom
and Political Oppression the authors argument revolves around cyber utopianism and realism in regard
to the internets actual function. Morozov s article attempts to convince the reader the internet is a
rather negative tool due to how the function of the internet has been more beneficial to governments
by allowing the spread of propaganda and legitimacy, and its aid in authoritarianism. Morozov mainly
focuses on how many people often seem to forget how the internet carries negative aspects, resulting
in cyber utopianism, a naïve belief in the emancipatory nature of online communication that rests on a
stubborn refusal to acknowledge its downsides. Morozov argues that cyber utopianism is not a
realistic way of viewing the internet due to how the internet operates throughout different countries
and because of the effect the internet has had on authoritarianism. Instead of the internet being a tool
for the oppressed, Morozov suggests that it has become a bigger aid to governments. Though I do
think that the internet is an important aid in helping with world issues, I do agree that there are more
negative consequences. This is evident considering some countries barely have access

Essay about The Theory of Scientific Theories
The Theory of Scientific Theories
Sir Popper s piece, Science: Conjectures and Refutations, reaffirms the scientific methods currently in
use. No scientific theory is ratified without serious consideration and careful observation. Science is
the pursuit of what can be proven false and the resulting assumptions of what must be true.
The problem that plagues Sir Popper is the clear definition of science and pseudoscience. Though the
empirical method is common to both, the level of inferential data varies greatly. One can amass large
amounts of data by observing human behavior, but data alone is not the stuff of scientific theory.
Theories must be assembled fusing factual data, and inducive reasoning. The point of induction seems

By setting out to validate an assumption, we determine the outcome of any challenge to that
assumption. Kuhn reiterates this in his works on Copernicus. Though Copernicus firmly believes that
the earth is not the center of the universe, he is hesitant to disclose his theories. He knows that any
experimentation will be done with the assumption that man is the center, and therefore determine the
outcome before experiments even begin.
The next conclusion Popper declares is that the more rigorous the testing of a theory, the stronger it
will become. During the scientific revolution, mathematicians like Kepler and astronomers like Brahe
went to great lengths to improve the accuracy of experiments. Rather than formulate volumes of
calculations, Kepler struggled to improve upon the accuracy of Copernicus work. The fruits of his
labors were observations accurate within four degrees, and led to the theory of eliptical orbits. Brahe,
with the aid of new optical equipment such as the astrolabe, set a new standard for accurate depiction
of planetary bodies and their actions. The progression of these thoughts brings us to another of his
conclusions. Testing has degrees of accuracy which must be optimized to truly proclaim a theory. In
summary, a scientific theory must be falsifiable, refutable, and testable.
In revision of his postulates, Popper alludes to a few interesting concepts on the nature of scientific
thought. Many major scientific contributions have

syndrome. Two studies took into account cerebral palsy, and one was based on after a fracture.
Results: Theses studies demonstrated that there was a trend among Mirror Therapy and benefited all
of those previously mentioned. Conclusion: Due to the diversity, and widespread range use within
these studies, it allowed for more insight into Mirror Therapy on a generalist scale. Comparison
studies, along with physiotherapy modalities, interventions, and outcome measures were all taken. All
demonstrated an improvement among functional movements from the healthy limb to that of the

Nicaragua Unemployment Rate
I was sent to Nicaragua by an international division of a multinational corporations to determine if a
factory can be built based on the following factors: economic, social, and political.
As I began the research for Nicaragua. I came across many factors of economic. Which are
unemployment rate, natural resources, taxes, transportation, and standard of living. This factors are
very important because they are going to determine if the factory can be built there. In fact Nicaragua
unemployment rate is 6.1%(Central Intelligence agency) due to that many of the population lives in
the countryside area. Another reason why the unemployment rate is low because of health conditions.
The effect that it has on the factory is that the poverty is under and trying to live on a dollar a ... Show

Approximately 6,400 people living with human immunodeficiency virus in the country which has
affected the unemployment rate.About 80% of Nicaragua population has access to safe drinking
water. This is very important because I want to know that my workers will be safe living in the
country. The bad part about the information I research is that many of citizens live with human
immunodeficiency virus which will affect the factory because they would not be able to work at the
factory. (International living) The social factors of Nicaragua are education, immigration, and
religious. This factors are important to know because it will help me with how educated my
employees would be, religious would affect the factory or helping the factory. I believe it would be a
good idea to build a factory in Nicaragua because of all the research I have received have been good
for the factory to be built

Beer Ads Analysis Essay
1. BUD DRINKABILITY
Target audience: The advertising is aimed at young or mid aged male consumers. The two major
characters are both young men, and they talked about beer drinking occasions themed with young
people, such as parties, golf course, and pubs for cowboys.
Consumer insight: The commercial tries to deliver the message that Bud light is good for every
occasion, hinting that the consumer motivations be affiliation, i.e., friendly, sociable and wanting to fit
in.
Strategic message: In the advertisement, Bud light promises to offer a different drinkability. This
strategic message is very weak, because I didn t see any relevance between drinkability and fitting into
different occasions , making the message disconnected ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although the message is compelling, it is not that unique one, because a lot of other beer position as a
refreshing beer for summer time.
Advertising campaign idea: Although there is some creative idea in the ads, e.g., Coors Light Silver
Bullet Train appeared in the BBQ, I didn t see any big idea in general. I didn t gasp when I first saw it.
It can be used for several years, but since it s not unique, consumers will probably not remember it.
Execution: The commercial is the problem solution kind of ads, by showing the audience a problem
(hot weather in summer) and how Coors Light beer solved it. The execution is ok, but not impressive.
3. CORONA SKIMMING STONES
Target audience: The commercial is targeted both male and female beer drinkers with decent income
(because they can afford to travel to nice beach). They have the need to chuck away worries to live the
moment. The commercial is also targeted the critical, peak beer drinking summer season.
Consumer insight: The underlying consumer motivation is temporarily escaping from stress and
communication overload. The ad is appealing and effective to the target.
Strategic message: The benefit the brand promises is consumers can drown all the worries in couple of
Corona beer bottles in hot summer. It shows Corona s positioning of spirit of the getaway . It is
unique, ownable and compelling. It is consistent with consumer motivation of

Persuasive Essay On Life Saving Drugs
Companies selling life saving drugs are raising prices and causing people to not be able to afford the
drugs they need to survive. Not everyone can pay hundreds of dollars for a couple of pills to help them
survive. Many people s lives will be in danger because they don t have the money to buy these drugs.
The government should control the prices of these life saving drugs so that people will be able to
afford them. The prices of these drugs need to be lowered to save lives. These companies don t care
about you health, they re just thinking about the money. There has been an instance of a drug being
marked up from $13.50 to $750 a tablet overnight. Also, a drug called revlimid had a price jumped
from $78,000 a year to $156,000. A majority of American families have less than $5,000 in savings.
This drug can help patients that have multiple myeloma, a rare and vicious cancer of the blood. These
two drugs could be life saving, but the companies who own them are still making them way more
expensive than they need to be. A grievance of the Declaration of Independence says He has refused to
agree to laws that are necessary for the public good. People with life threatening illnesses or allergies
are suffering because the companies that own these drugs are raising prices because they want more
money. They are profiting off the suffering of others. Some reasons that they are so expensive is
because doctors and pharmacies will try to get you to buy the most expensive name brand drugs. Also,
there is a lack of generic drug competition. In fact, one of the most effective drugs, statins, are hardly
mentioned in pharmaceutical advertising. Statin can also help treat the leading cause of death in the
United States, heart attacks. They cost as little as $4 for a 30 day supply. The Constitution Preamble, it
says that the government is expected to promote the general welfare of the people of the United States
(Pmbl). However, the government doesn t help the public know that there are cheaper drugs that are
just as effective. Things such as EpiPens are now also being marked up about 450%. They used to be
$50 for one injector. Now they are $600 for two injectors, only sold in packs of two. The actual dose

Buckminsterfullerene Research Paper
Buckminsterfullerene or more commonly known as bucky balls is one of the types of carbon
allotropes. It is a spherical fullerene molecule containing 60 carbon atoms. The shape of a bucky ball
resembles that of a typical soccer ball and the specific name for the structure is truncated icosahedron.
It is formed of twenty hexagons and twelve pentagons with a carbon atom lying at each vertex. The
name buckminsterfullerene was named after the inventor Buckminster fuller, because one of his
designs of a geodesic dome structure was very similar to that of the 60 carbon fullerene. So the
inventors named him after the allotrope. However, Fuller and the general public tend to call them
buckyballs. Theoretical Bucky balls were developed in the 1970 s ... Show more content on

Bucky balls are extremely stable structures, they can withstand high temperatures and high pressures.
The exposed surface of the structure can interact with other molecules while retaining its spherical
geometry. Also, atoms and small molecules can be trapped inside the fullerene without reacting.
Carbon 60 can undergo 6 reversible reductions, but oxidation is irreversible. The first reduction needs
approximately 1.0 V, making it a fairly effective electron acceptor. It avoids having double bonds in
the pentagons, so electron delocalization is poor and results in the molecule not being superaromatic.
Superaromaticity is used to describe an extra stable nature of some aromatic macrocycle compounds.
These structure contains a number of aromatic rings. Carbon 60 behaves very much like an electron
deficient alkene and readily reacts with high electron density species. Fullerenes are sparingly soluble
in aromatic solvents such as toluene and carbon disulfide, but they are insoluble in water. Saturated
solutions of carbon 60 have a deep purple color which leaves a brown residue when it is evaporated.
The relatively narrow energy width of the band of molecular levels responsible for green light
absorption are the cause for this color change by single carbon 60

Indiana Jones Research Paper
There is a reason that Indiana Jones does not like snakes. They are dangerous. That being said, it is
rare, to be bitten by a snake and die from it; at least when compared to dying of auto accident, cancer,
or heart disease. Some snakes have venom, but it is not deadly Some do not have any venom at all, but
it is the way the snake wraps itself around you and tightens its grip until it kills you. Tropical areas are
the best place to find a lot of these snakes. Here is my top ten list of the most dangerous snake species
in the world.
10. Copperhead
A moderately sized snake, less than three feet long on average, some can get up to four feet. The
copperhead weighs anywhere from eight to twelve ounces. The venom is fairly painful. Hides itself ...

They can get set to strike, strike and back to its strike position in less than .15 seconds. The venom per
bite can be as little as seventy milligrams and as high as 236 milligrams. They hide in wait, when they
hear humans coming, to strike; this increases their risk of being stepped on, but they are much more
dangerous to strike.
8. Cottonmouth
Also referred to as the water moccasin, the bite is more harmful and deadly than that of the
copperhead, but does not lead to death. That much, anyway. It is more aggressive than the copperhead,
but only bites when it is touched. More aggressive reputation and strikes a ready to bite pose. The
snake can get up to six feet long.
7. Common krait
Often considered India s most dangerous snake. The venom contains highly powerful neurotoxins
which cause the muscles to become paralyzed. It has two kinds of neurotoxins (postsynaptic and
presynaptic) that usually affect the nerve endings located close to the synaptic cleft of the brain.
6. Inland Taipan
This snake has the most venom, more than any other snake in the world. If left untreated, the death
rate from a bite from this snake is eighty percent. That being said, this snake does not usually bite, is
actually easy going, and stays away from confrontation.

The Importance Of English As The Official Language
During the early 1500s America was pillaged by several European foreigners; for example, the
Spanish, French, and British. However, there were tens of thousands of people already occupying
America. When Europeans first invaded, over 300 languages were already being spoken and taught by
over 562 different tribes. All of these languages were extremely complex and distinct, none of these
languages being English. After colonization many of these languages became extinct, even today they
are becoming less and less used; thus, wiping away what is left of Native American culture and
language. Many American citizens argue that as a nation, English should be recognized as the official
language. Even though the majority of people in America speak or understand English, legally placing
this as the nation s language will have several negative consequences. For people who side on making
it the official language, they feel that communicating with be easier and that allowing there to be no
official language will erase American culture. Not only are those statements not true, but they can also
be deemed as xenophobic and racist. Constitutionally setting English as the official language can not
only promote xenophobia, it can also erase minority culture; moreover, English was not the first or
only language spoken in America when it was first being colonized. Native Americans created their
own life, culture, and language without the influence of European culture. These people maintained

The Standpoint Theory On Human Relationships
The standpoint theory is an approach that seeks to demystify subjects concerning human relationships.
Such relations occur within diverse environments that influence though processes and the subsequent
perception of life. Further, this body of knowledge regards the manner in which authority is vested in
individuals within various forms of social systems. The standpoint theory provides that individual
perspectives are molded by their experiences. Additionally, this touches on the aspects of people s
political environments as they strive to exist within their habitat sustainably. Individual environments
affect the manner in which people interact with each other (Hägerstraand, 1970). Various determinants
come into play when social structures are established. Ethnicity has been found to be a substantial
factor that affects the establishment of connections between people from various backgrounds. Social
classes create the distinction between people s perspective of the world (Marton, 1980). Critically,
people with privilege have particular attributes that place them above the persons they oppress.
Structurally, human societies are established by sets of institutions. These institutions vary in
relevance and scope. Important social institutions include education systems, the law and religion.
People perform daily activities based on the various notions they hold about the societies they occur.
Society serves various functions. First, it controls people s behavior and thus the

Edward Deming s Improving The Quality Of Service Quality
Edward Deming contributed to the success in improving the quality in the workplace. His ideas
became the framework and foundation of different organizations, businesses, and institutions. All of
them envision to serve their customers as best as they can and give the kind of service that will
increase productivity. According to Deming, A system is in harmony when subsystems are not in
conflict with one another. Based on this statement, everyone in the workplace must have a good
foundation, working harmoniously, and try to reach out the goal of their organization to give the best
service that they can render to their customers. Along Dewing s teachings about the quality of

Third, for opportunities, these are the elements that will help some improvement and changes to the
system such as new trainings and workshops for the staffs and more staff involvements in and outside
the laboratory. Lastly for the threats, these are the internal and external sources of competitions like
turnaround time, unhappy patients and opposition to change.
These criteria will help the laboratory and the staffs to formulate their strategies and the quality of
their services. After formulating the SWOT analysis, the supervisor and the head department can use
the lean six sigma project to solve their problem. This system uses the Define, Measure, Analyze,
Improve and Control (DMAIC) Framework and also focuses on eliminating wastes and non valuable
work in time and resources. According to Sadyadi, The application of Lean Six Sigma in the clinical
laboratory has proven to be beneficial by enhancing quality services and meeting regulatory
requirements that specifically identify the need for adequate work space and reduction of laboratory
errors (Sadyadi 2013). This statement describes that using strategies in the clinical laboratory will help
to increase the type of services they render for customers satisfaction. Using a strategy like the lean
six sigma helps them to create the appropriate action to solve their existing problem. The supervisor

  • 2. East Los Angeles College Student Analysis Although named East Los Angeles College(ELAC), ELAC is actually located in Monterey Park, California. Monterey Park is located 30 miles east of Downtown Los Angeles, and has the largest concentration of Chinese Americans in the US. I was raised and born in Monterey Park and when I graduated high school, I enrolled at the local community college. Two years of working as a tutor at the ELAC Writing Center taught me the importance of literature and teaching literature. As a tutor, I learned the necessity to analyze, assess, and appeal to not only the student but their learning needs as well. Most importantly, I learned that before a teacher can impact their students they must understand the student s environment. While being the largest community ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Throughout my educational career, I have been taught English from a dominant perspective that ignored issues of class, race and gender. I have witnessed many students, including myself, become disinterested in great works because there is no personal connection to the texts. My hopes are to widen the paradigm so that more students can become interested in English and see how reading, analysis, and writing can develop not only one s understanding of their society, but also themselves. I acknowledge that every student works and thinks differently; therefore, it should be the teacher s responsibility to provide necessary resources that will develop each individual s their composition skills accordingly. I often tell myself, I am teaching for the students who do not want to be there in the classroom . With disengaged students in mind, I want to push myself to provide a learning experience that is pluralistic, informative and inspirational. Teachers should see their role not as expert, but as someone engaged in reciprocal learning and dialogue with students. To appeal to disinterested students, teachers must explain how writing and rhetoric is necessary in all fields by explaining how English cultivates strong communication skills, which are necessary in everyday life. A teacher s goal should be to motivate students to begin a personal exploration toward effective, ethical ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Review Of Pipilotti Rist s Pepperminta 0:10:04 0:02:04 On its surface, Pipilotti Rist s Pepperminta depicts a free spirited woman who liberates the members of her community with the power of ecstatic imagination; however, a more esoteric interpretation points to a film that is first and foremost a depiction of the psychedelic experience. Though the entire collection of evidence supporting this theory is beyond the scope of this analysis, there is ample evidence within one short sequence to substantiate the premise. The film stands out in its use of color, cinematography, and editing to create an imaginative world in which the characters are free to play. The same techniques also overtly resemble the effects of psychedelic substances such as lysergic diethylamide (LSD/Acid) and psilocybin mushrooms. In addition, the narrative, script, and mis en scene contain clues that may go unnoticed to non drug users, but that certainly point to hallucinogenic substances. Firstly, let us use the effects of psilocybin mushrooms to characterize the psychedelic experience. These effects include but are not limited to: Euphoria, philosophical thinking, intense feelings of wonder, starring and rainbow patterns, colors brighten or alter, visual hallucinations, sensation of energy within body, and feelings of connection with the universe. Each of these are displayed by Pepperminta by a combination of cinematography and post production editing and after effects. The sequence begins with the titular character pinwheeling through ... • 4. Life In The 21st Century The world is changing, and changing fast. Technology, education, health, eating habits, dress there is hardly anything in life that is not changing, some changes we like, while others create fear and anxiety. Several predictions were made that the world will end in 2012 based on the rollover of the Mayan calendar but all these forecasting were proved to be fictitious. On the contrary we are living in the 21st century, 2025 and the world has changed tremendously in the last 13 years. The world has been transformed by the digital revolution and advances in medicine and human knowledge. The present day civilization stands on two legs, one is spirituality, and the other is science. Today, I woke up and have a coffee. My eyes got baffled to the digital newspaper headlines and it was written that Colonization on Mars has begun . Then suddenly I remembered my old days when newspapers were printed on papers. Technology has changed every aspect of life. Now people are going to live on Mars and the problem of over population has been solved. Then I got ready and proceed towards my office. Earlier we have to catch an auto or bus to reach our destination and now the transportation has become so simple that we can travel from one place to another with ease. Being as an engineer in Metro Services I feel proud to work there because it has solved the transportation problem. While sitting in the metro I saw the streets which were so clean that not even a single paper was thrown away. At ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Comparing Opera Seria to Orfeo Ed Euridice by Gluck and... Orfeo ed Euridice by Gluck, was written in 1762 and The Marriage of Figaro by Mozart was written in 1786. It is interesting to analyse the changes and developments from opera seria to these two examples. During the eighteenth century, composers wrote in a style of opera called opera seria. Opera seria had the following characteristics: They used similar plots involving a hero and usually some sort of conflict of human passions, and these operas were often based on a story from an ancient Greek or Latin Author. The opera always consisted of three acts with alternating recitatives and arias. To show the virtuosic skill of the singer, cadenzas were used within arias. The action was created from the dialogue within the recitatives, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There were also stricter demands of the solo singers. The two mid eighteenth century composers, Jomelli and Traetta played a big part in the reform of Italian opera in the late 18th century by influencing the French towards opera of a more international flavour. Born in Bohemia, Gluck built a more international style of opera. He was strongly affected by the movement of the reform in the 1750s. He became court composer to the Emperor at Vienna after visits to London and studying under Samartini in Italy. After a collaboration with a poet named Raniero Calzabigi, Gluck composed two of his famous operas, `Orfeo ed Euridice in 1762 and `Alceste in 1767. Gluck s aims were to remove the unpopular characteristics of opera seria, as shown by his famous quote: To confine music to its proper function of serving the poetry for the expression and the situations of the plot He removed the overuse of da capo aria or the showing off desire of the singer; he also broke down the contrast of the recitative and aria and gave his opera more dramatic relevance than had been the case in opera seria: I believed that my greatest effort should be directed to seek in a beautiful simplicity ...and there is no accepted rule that I have not thought should be gladly sacrificed in favour of effectiveness. One important way, in which Gluck reformed opera, was the use of his choruses as we can see in the beginning of Orfeo ed Euridice. Example below. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Living in the same historical period, witnessing and being part of tragic, crucial changes in the Judas history, having a similar background, these two men still differ a lot in their views, lifestyle and way of prophesying. Jeremiah was likely born between 650 and 645 B.C. not far from Jerusalem in a family of a priest and was by being trained for holy service in the priesthood was prepared for his future role. Jeremiah starts prophesying the future fall of Jerusalem and his role after it is to bring his word to the Jews in exile as well, so here he develops a theology of repentance, exile and restoration. Emmanuel College, affectionately referred to as Emma, only ever gives the casual passer by a brief glimpse of its gorgeous site, keeping most of its vast spaces a secret. Hidden behind the college owned houses and high walls, is a lush and green site complete with a lake containing giant fish and cherished ducks; neither ever having featured on the hall menu. There is some dispute with Lady Margaret Hall in Oxford as to who produces the most intelligent mallards in the country. The informal gardens, known as the Paddock, provide the social epicentre in the warmer weather and students are allowed to work and play on the grass. This contrasts with the formal Front Court, which is sacrosanct and only ducks and the occasional fellow are allowed to venture. The snowmen that appear, as if by magic, in the bleak mid winter nights are tolerated as long as they deliver their essays on time. Strong equal opportunities policy The college is right in the city centre next to the bus station and is home to 140 postgraduates and 487 undergraduates, in a roughly equal gender divide. Women were first admitted in 1979. Emmanuel boasts an excellent academic record, which results in around five times as many applications as there are places. • 9. Insanity And The Insanity Defense The purpose of this essay is to explain why the insanity plea, or the insanity defense as it is also known, is not a legitimate defense for any type of crime. The insanity defense has been around for a number of years but does it make a mockery of the legal system? While many people have used the insanity defense, it loses more times than it wins. This defense is used when someone believes they did not know right from wrong while committing the crime. The problem with this is that it is hard to know someone s mental state when there is not much evidence to go on. Someone can become mentally ill after a crime or someone may have been mentally ill before a crime. Neither one of these issues always weigh on the actual crime. A large ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While it is important to note that there are certain behaviors that are found to be common when someone is depressed, depression does not facilitate itself the same way in all people. The National Institute of Mental Health (n.d.) tells us, People with depressive illnesses do not all experience the same symptoms. The severity, frequency, and duration of symptoms vary depending on the individual and his or her particular illness. Understanding that there are so many different interpretations of the word insanity, it could be argued that knowing the difference between right and wrong is not always clear. The following syllogistic formula can be considered when thinking about this topic: Major Premise: All people who plead insanity are admitting to a mental disease or defect. Minor Premise: If a person has a mental disease or defect, it does not mean that he/she cannot tell right from wrong. Conclusion: If a person uses an insanity defense, it does not mean that he/she did not know right from wrong while committing the crime. Brannigan (2005) tells the story of Andrea Pia Yates. • 12. How Democracy Is The Only System Of Governance During my investigation for the CIA I visited several autocracies, some successful, some not. I also visited several democracies some struggling and some unrivaled in their success. Although there are cons of each system of government I have come to the conclusion that democracy is the only system of governance that would fit best with the United States of America and set it up for success in the future. Democracy is defined as a government by the people; a form of government in which the supreme power is vested in the people and exercised directly by them or by their elected agents under a free electoral system. 1 The United States of America is meant to be ruled by many instead of a select few. A broad participation in government now more than ever is key in order to get through these tough times and come out a stronger more resilient country. A democracy will not be as easy or as clean cut as a autocracy but it will be the right thing to do for the country s success in the long run, socially, economically and to stay the strong world power that we are. In democracy the right decisions may not be made all the time. But there tends to be a happy medium that makes sure everyone gets a little bit of what they wanted in a democracy. Instead of one person or a small group of people controlling the country a democracy is a collaboration of many different groups and ideas. As a specialist in my field I feel like these qualities that democracy gives to the government is key to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. To Kill A Mockingbird And Persepolis Comparison Essay Compare how the composers of To Kill a Mockingbird and Persepolis use characterisation to explore the conflict between personal and public worlds. Everyone is different, has their own personality and views but it is not an uncommon occurrence when their way of thinking clashes or is challenged with others. Harper Lee s novel To Kill a Mockingbird (T.K.A.M) and Marjane Satrapi s graphic novel Persepolis, while set in different time periods, explore similar issues of discrimination which are shown through techniques used by the authors. In both books, Harper Lee and Marjane Satrapi have built their stories around young female protagonists, Scout a hard headed and impressionable tomboy from T.K.A.M and Marjane from Persepolis. By having the stories be narrated from a child s perspective, it allows readers to understand the characters unsophisticated and open minds. While living in different settings and having separate values, both Scout and Marjane come across aspects of sexism and misogyny. From a young age, Scout had learnt from her older brother, Jem, that things associating with girls are bad and things associating with boys are good, Jem told me I was being a girl, that girls always imagined things, that s why other people hated them so, and if I started behaving like one I could just go off and find some to play with. (Ch.4, Pg.45) When Scout was two, her mother died of a sudden heart attack so she never had any major female influences or role models growing up. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The differences and similarities between Arthur Golden s Memoirs of a Geisha and its movie adaptation certainly raise the book in preference over the movie. Chiyo/Sayuri s childhood background, Chiyo s encounters with the Chairman, and the symbolism of water are all significant details in the story of Sayuri Nitta. Chiyo Sakamoto is born in Yoroido, Japan. With her mother sick and her father growing older every day, she believes Mr. Tanaka is her liberator. Little does she know that, at the tender age of nine, she is to be ripped from her poor, simple life and sold to an okiya in Gion. Until the recent battle between Gov. George W. Bush and Vice president Al Gore for the presidency, this new generation of American voters has never witnessed a controversial election. Historically, there have been problematic elections allowing voters to question this system. Yet in the morning, I learn that Florida is again announced too close to call because by Florida law, the percentage difference between the candidates was so marginal, a recount was necessary. Is this possible to have such a close race and no president announced on Election Day? Because Al Gore had a slim lead in the popular vote, the decision of which candidate receives the electoral votes in Florida seemed irrelevant to the people. However, there have been many presidents who have merely won the plurality vote, meaning they have not received a majority of the popular vote, but electoral votes, therefore becoming minority presidents. John Quincy Adams, with 30.92 percent of the popular vote defeated Andrew Jackson in 1824, which was decided by a contingency election in the House of Representatives. One of the definitions of Physical Education is; regular instruction in physical exercise and games in schools and other institutions (Oxford English Dictionary). It is compulsory in the UK for every child up to the age of 16. Physical Education has been adapted immensely to fit the needs of young people and is still continuing to change. There are an increasing number of young people leading sedentary lifestyles by watching television instead of doing physical activity (British Heart Foundation, 2012). From 1992 until 2008, the different forms of the National Curriculum for Physical Education have been focused around the notion of Sport and Performance. There was a strong emphasis on competition and finding elite performers which may not be an ideal approach. Many children dislike the competitive element of sport and would rather take part for personal or social reasons. This wouldn t encourage young people to sustain physical activity levels as they may not want to compete and have only seen physical activity in a competitive light. In 2008, the new National Curriculum was launched and its priority was given to health and physical activity rather than sport. This reduced the amount of competitive elements and made it more about taking part. Some would say that the 4th NCPE was seen as successful as in 2007, 17% of boys and 16% of girls aged 2 15 were classified as obese and this decreased as in 2009, 16% of boys and 15% of girls aged 2 15 were seen as obese (Statistics on Obesity, Physical Activity and Diet England, 2009 and 2011). This slight decrease could be down to the change in the type of activities offered in school although it may not be the only factor. Giving young people the opportunity to set personal goals rather than basing everything around competition would promote life long participation in physical activity as they will get a sense of achievement from completing that specific goal. • 19. Country Music Has Gone Through Many Phases Of Different... Country music has gone through many phases of different musical styles including the honky tonk style and more modern pop country style. More recently, mainstream country has continued to define itself through bringing all these different styles together and relying on each of them. This genre of music faces issues relating to its original classification as being working class music , being in opposition to homosexuality and its portrayal and absence of women. Often times I have heard people say that they prefer all genres of music, except country. Growing up I always listened to country music due to the fact that my mom and our family friends often listen to it, therefore I never understood why it unveiled such a negative reaction for most people. Oftentimes I find myself excluding my enjoyment of country music to others simply to avoid their surprised reactions. While I realize how people may be closed off to country music because of the labels that have been imposed upon it in common discourse and media, I often would like to point out that modern country music that is played on the radio today is often very different from more traditional country music played many years ago, and is not that much different from pop and rock sounds. These issues of class divide, homosexuality and the role of women must be looked upon in relation to contemporary country music, which can be considered a more relevant discussion. Composed in 1741, the oratorio was preformed first in Dublin in 1742. It had a scriptural text from the King James Bible and was written for modest vocal and instrumental forces. The work, although very much in the style of Handel, is a series of thoughts on the Christian idea of redemption and utilizes a mixture of traditions. After Handel s death in 1759, the Oratorio began to gain popularity even further and was adapted to larger scale choirs and orchestras. Handel has very much influenced the world of music, especially through his operas, and has grown in popularity throughout the years. There were also issues about the inappropriateness or ineffectiveness of the standards that were used in extending credit by the financial sector (Calvo, 171). Another important factor that affected the financial sector and would eventually contribute to the development of the Mexican Peso Crisis was that the risk premium of the Mexican economy was significantly impacted by the armed conflicts that happened in Chiapas at that time. This armed conflict led to a decline in investor confidence about business in Mexico, such that there was a decline in the investment potential of the region (Mathur, 18). In addition, in the decade leading to 1994, the government saw an increasing expenditure for various projects in the country. The result was an increased reduction in the funds of the government. The Digestive System Of Digestion Essay Digestion is the breaking apart of foods into smaller and smaller units and absorbtion is the movements of those small units from the gut into the bloodstream or lymphatic system for circulation. (1) The digestive system is what keeps you going from day to day because without the digestive system you wouldn t be able to consume anything. You also wouldn t be able to absorb the necessary nutrients you need for your body to keep functioning correctly. The organs that play a role in the digestive system is the mouth, esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine, appendix, rectum, liver, gallbladder, pancreas, and the anal canal. The mouth is where it all starts. Before you even take a bite of your food, the smell of the food is what triggers your salivary glands which include the parotid, sublingual, and submandibular glands in your mouth making it start to water. Your saliva increases when you taste the food. When you chew the food into smaller pieces the enzyme amylase breaks food into small sugar molecules. To start fat digestion another enzyme is released at the base of the tongue called lingual lipase. A bolus is easy to swallow and is formed when saliva and other fluids in the mouth mixed with mucous. The problem that plagues Sir Popper is the clear definition of science and pseudoscience. Though the empirical method is common to both, the level of inferential data varies greatly. Kuhn reiterates this in his works on Copernicus. Though Copernicus firmly believes that the earth is not the center of the universe, he is hesitant to disclose his theories. The next conclusion Popper declares is that the more rigorous the testing of a theory, the stronger it will become. During the scientific revolution, mathematicians like Kepler and astronomers like Brahe went to great lengths to improve the accuracy of experiments. Rather than formulate volumes of calculations, Kepler struggled to improve upon the accuracy of Copernicus work. The fruits of his labors were observations accurate within four degrees, and led to the theory of eliptical orbits. • 37. Third Country Processing In Australia Immigration, worldwide, is under pressure. At present, Australia s immigration system and policies are not in compliance to the international and constitutional obligations particularly in regards to the system of Third Country Processing . On 13 August 2012, Third country processing was introduced for asylum seekers. The asylum seekers who venture to Australia by boat without a valid visa, must be transferred at the earliest convenience to a third country, specifically Nauru or Papua New Guinea (PNG), unless the Minister of Immigration states otherwise (Australian Human Rights Commission, 2014). Belgium and other in 2001. However, there have been multiple cases which have caught the attention of UN Human Rights Council in the recent report of UN Special Rapporteur on Torture. One of the cases (Case No. AUS 4/2014) mentioned the allegations concerning the situation of two Sri Lankan asylum seekers and migrants (203 in total), and their secluded detention and imminent deportation to Sri Lanka by the Australia Government, in contravention of Australia s non refoulement obligations. • 42. Persuasive Essay On Life Saving Drugs Companies selling life saving drugs are raising prices and causing people to not be able to afford the drugs they need to survive. Not everyone can pay hundreds of dollars for a couple of pills to help them survive. Many people s lives will be in danger because they don t have the money to buy these drugs. The government should control the prices of these life saving drugs so that people will be able to afford them. The prices of these drugs need to be lowered to save lives. These companies don t care about you health, they re just thinking about the money. There has been an instance of a drug being marked up from $13.50 to $750 a tablet overnight. Also, a drug called revlimid had a price jumped from $78,000 a year to $156,000. A majority of American families have less than $5,000 in savings. This drug can help patients that have multiple myeloma, a rare and vicious cancer of the blood. These two drugs could be life saving, but the companies who own them are still making them way more expensive than they need to be. A grievance of the Declaration of Independence says He has refused to agree to laws that are necessary for the public good. People with life threatening illnesses or allergies are suffering because the companies that own these drugs are raising prices because they want more money. They are profiting off the suffering of others. Some reasons that they are so expensive is because doctors and pharmacies will try to get you to buy the most expensive name brand drugs. Also, there is a lack of generic drug competition. In fact, one of the most effective drugs, statins, are hardly mentioned in pharmaceutical advertising. Statin can also help treat the leading cause of death in the United States, heart attacks. They cost as little as $4 for a 30 day supply. The Constitution Preamble, it says that the government is expected to promote the general welfare of the people of the United States (Pmbl). However, the government doesn t help the public know that there are cheaper drugs that are just as effective. Things such as EpiPens are now also being marked up about 450%. • 43. Buckminsterfullerene Research Paper Buckminsterfullerene or more commonly known as bucky balls is one of the types of carbon allotropes. It is a spherical fullerene molecule containing 60 carbon atoms. The shape of a bucky ball resembles that of a typical soccer ball and the specific name for the structure is truncated icosahedron. It is formed of twenty hexagons and twelve pentagons with a carbon atom lying at each vertex. The name buckminsterfullerene was named after the inventor Buckminster fuller, because one of his designs of a geodesic dome structure was very similar to that of the 60 carbon fullerene. So the inventors named him after the allotrope. However, Fuller and the general public tend to call them buckyballs. Theoretical Bucky balls were developed in the 1970 s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Bucky balls are extremely stable structures, they can withstand high temperatures and high pressures. The exposed surface of the structure can interact with other molecules while retaining its spherical geometry. Also, atoms and small molecules can be trapped inside the fullerene without reacting. Carbon 60 can undergo 6 reversible reductions, but oxidation is irreversible. The first reduction needs approximately 1.0 V, making it a fairly effective electron acceptor. It avoids having double bonds in the pentagons, so electron delocalization is poor and results in the molecule not being superaromatic. Superaromaticity is used to describe an extra stable nature of some aromatic macrocycle compounds. These structure contains a number of aromatic rings. Carbon 60 behaves very much like an electron deficient alkene and readily reacts with high electron density species. Fullerenes are sparingly soluble in aromatic solvents such as toluene and carbon disulfide, but they are insoluble in water. Saturated solutions of carbon 60 have a deep purple color which leaves a brown residue when it is evaporated. The relatively narrow energy width of the band of molecular levels responsible for green light absorption are the cause for this color change by single carbon 60 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 45. The Importance Of English As The Official Language During the early 1500s America was pillaged by several European foreigners; for example, the Spanish, French, and British. However, there were tens of thousands of people already occupying America. When Europeans first invaded, over 300 languages were already being spoken and taught by over 562 different tribes. All of these languages were extremely complex and distinct, none of these languages being English. After colonization many of these languages became extinct, even today they are becoming less and less used; thus, wiping away what is left of Native American culture and language. Many American citizens argue that as a nation, English should be recognized as the official language. Even though the majority of people in America speak or understand English, legally placing this as the nation s language will have several negative consequences. For people who side on making it the official language, they feel that communicating with be easier and that allowing there to be no official language will erase American culture. Not only are those statements not true, but they can also be deemed as xenophobic and racist. Constitutionally setting English as the official language can not only promote xenophobia, it can also erase minority culture; moreover, English was not the first or only language spoken in America when it was first being colonized. • 46. The Standpoint Theory On Human Relationships The standpoint theory is an approach that seeks to demystify subjects concerning human relationships. Such relations occur within diverse environments that influence though processes and the subsequent perception of life. Further, this body of knowledge regards the manner in which authority is vested in individuals within various forms of social systems. The standpoint theory provides that individual perspectives are molded by their experiences.
