Thousands of years ago in Asia, a book was written that gave social structure that would go on
through the ages in India. Today that social structure is called the Jati or in English words, the Caste
system. While it has undergone a few changes here and there, the system has relatively been
unchanged and just like thousands of years ago when it was first introduced in the Vedas, it exists in
modern day India as a part of society in it. This paper will go over a more detailed explanation of
the Jati as well as the classes and books that defined the Jati system, most notably the Laws of
Mandu . Jati translates to caste so in English it is called the Caste system. In the Jati system
there are four main castes one falls under: Shudra, Viasya, Kshatryia and Bhramin. Outside of the
caste system are the outcasts or also called untouchables. Within these main four castes there are
thousands of subcastes a group of people will fall under. One important thing to note where
unlike most social classes of ancient time, in the Jati system, it is possible to move up in the
caste. While a subcaste may not move up as an individually, the entire group can move up. So
while there is subcaste A and subcaste B. While Subcaste B is currently higher up on the caste it

Fran, thank you for allowing me to attend the 2016 Play Conference hosted by the US Play
Coalition. I attended three sessions on Monday, April 4th, and the experience was highly
beneficial for my future career and built on many topics I have learned this semester so far. The
exposure to Parks, Recreation, and Tourism Management professionals allowed me to see possible
futures for myself. The first sessionI attended was on the education track; it was given by Debbie
Stevens Smith and was entitled The Kinesthetic Classroom: Why, How, and When. Ms. Smith, an
early childhoodprofessor at Clemson University, spoke about why it is vital for teachers to create
classrooms incorporating play and movement, gave some advice on how to achieve this, and told
us when we could incorporate movement during the day. The most interesting new thing I learned
during this session was about the Brain Derived Neurotrophic Factor; she compared this to miracle
grow for the brain. Basically, exercise encourages the growth of new neurons and synapses, thus
increasing brain mass and mood regulation. She also spoke about Finland, a nation with the highest

My First Year Of College
Senior year in high school, I thought I had everything figured out. At the time, I was in a
program called PSEO where I was able to go to college while I was in high school. Being a first
generation college student I didn t know how serious this first year of college would affect the rest
of my college career. I should have taken that first year seriously. I thought that I would graduate
high schooland attend a 4 year universityand graduate to go to optometry school. As a planning
type, I had everything in place. Until my cousin s grandma passed away, I grew up with them
living a walking block away. I was shocked and reflected on my life that I have planned out for
myself. After graduating high school packed up my things and headed out west to San Jose,
California to move in with my grandparents. I wanted to spend as much time with them while I
attended a local community collegecalled DeAnza. I was surrounded by people who could care
less about anyone else but themselves. I didn t fit, but I stayed to be with my grandparents for
the rest of the quarter. As the quarter went by so did my bank account, I had no option but to go
home to Minnesota. Once I got back to Minnesota I got a job of being an optometric technician
working side by side with the doctor. After 6 months of working there I could not see myself as an
optometrist. I attended Normandale Community College temporarily until I knew what my next
steps would be but I ended up leaving Normandale with an Associate

Figurative Language In Dylan Thomas
Since my childhood I have never really been a fan of reading books, nevertheless, took the time
to analyze certain passages or readings in order to find the deeper meaning behind them. I have
always been a fan of music and understood lyrics; however, poetry is a step further in
comprehension. Since we studied Dylan Thomas as a class, I have found interest in his use of
figurative language and his approach to go against the grain with masterful imagery. Thomas
themes of unity, life and death, growth, and love all present a new perspective on the outlook of
life and pose questions for how to view the world moving forward. Dylan Thomas, although faced
a lot of criticism for being overrated and was an alcoholic which led to his self destruction,... Show
He expands on this by stating, Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright / Their frail deeds
might have danced in a green bay (1433). Thomas claims that this generation or wave of good
men will be upset that their legacies and contributions won t be remembered. It s a feeling of
sympathy for these good men as a lot of times it s the little things in life we accomplish that gets
overlooked. I draw similarities from the word wave in the context. To me, the wave can
represent life as it slowly builds and grows to its peak then comes crashing down only to
disperse just like the direction of the human life as we age. As much as Thomas writing sounds to
be directed to someone at this point, I believe these two lines represent him in a way before he
died, like the good men he speaks of, he may have thought his deeds to poetry may be meaningless
and forgotten someday not knowing how big of an impact it has today. Following this, Thomas
contrasts the good men by saying, Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight / And learn,
too late, they grieved it on its way (1433). My interpretation of this is Thomas is trying to be fair
by recognizing the good man and the wild man, why? Possibly because these were his beliefs and
thoughts on how one should go about their life as they approach an end but doesn t know which
type of man he saw

government did not feel the need to segregate the cities as much as they did in the past. So
initially blacks were stuck on rural reserves most of the time and were being treated worse and
