Single-Proton Research Paper
The neutron is a subatomic particle, symbol n or n0 , with no net electric charge and a mass slightly
larger than that of a proton. Protons and neutrons constitute the nuclei of atoms. Since protons and
neutrons behave similarly within the nucleus, and each has a mass of approximately one atomic mass
unit, they are both referred to as nucleons.[5] Their properties and interactions are described by
nuclear physics.
The chemical and nuclear properties of the nucleus are determined by the number of protons, called
the atomic number, and the number of neutrons, called the neutron number. The atomic mass number
is the total number of nucleons. For example, carbon has atomic number 6, and its abundant carbon 12
isotope has 6 neutrons, whereas its rare carbon 13 isotope has 7 neutrons. Some elements occur in
nature with only one stable isotope, such as fluorine. Other elements occur with many stable isotopes,
such as tin with ten stable isotopes. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Neutrons are required for the stability of nuclei, with the exception of the single proton hydrogen
atom. Neutrons are produced copiously in nuclear fission and fusion. They are a primary contributor
to the nucleosynthesis of chemical elements within stars through fission, fusion, and neutron capture
processes.
The neutron is essential to the production of nuclear power. In the decade after the neutron was
discovered by James Chadwick in 1932,[6] neutrons were used to induce many different types of
nuclear transmutations. With the discovery of nuclear fission in 1938,[7] it was quickly realized that,
if a fission event produced neutrons, each of these neutrons might cause further fission events, etc., in
a cascade known as a nuclear chain reaction.[8] These events and findings led to the first self
sustaining nuclear reactor (Chicago Pile 1, 1942) and the first nuclear weapon (Trinity,

The Seven Main Ideas Of The Declaration Of Independence
The Declaration of Independence states that people have the right to revolt when the government fails
to protect the people s rights. The government s job is to protect everyone s natural rights. Cinque lost
all of his rights when as several men took him forcibly from his home and put him on a ship. Cinque
and the Africans became imprisoned and treaty horribly on the ships. Because the government failed
to protect their rights, Cinque had the right to revolt. The Declaration states the seven main ideas that
Americans think that government should follow. Americans believe in the idea that everyone is born
with specific rights that no government can confiscate from them. This idea is called the Law of
Nature. The rights in the Law of Nature are called Natural Rights. The three rights included in the Law
of Nature are life, liberty, and property. When people willingly chose to abandon the state of nature
and come to terms with the ideas of government, they give their consent. They willingly surrender
some of their freedoms. In return, they receive protection and safety from the government. When
everyone gives their consent, a legitimate government can be created. The State of Nature does not
provide safety. To gain safety, people create a social contract. They establish a new government. That
government will protect the people by enforcing the rules, and the people promise to follow these
laws. The people established the government by giving their consent,

Chesapeake Bay Prevention Essay
Prevention is necessary to control many problems in the Chesapeake Bay. Prevention can range from
something as big as a government issue or as small as a single person helping out. The greatest chance
at total protection for water quality is when many people and organizations work together to prevent
problems. According to the Chesapeake Bay Program, Federal, state and non profit Bay Program
partners are working with farmers, developers, homeowners and local governments to reduce
pollutants from multiple sources and restore water quality for all to enjoy (Chesapeake Bay Program).
The Chesapeake Bay Program is doing many things to help with prevention of water quality. Extreme

For example, the Monkton Fly Shop in Maryland will be cleaning six wader wash stations so waders
can be cleaned from invasive species. These wash stations are there to wash invasive species off of
waders so invasive species are not transferred into the Chesapeake Bay. The fly shop s twice weekly
online fishing report (www.backwaterangler.com) regularly reminds Gunpowder anglers to wash,
scrub, and rinse their boots and wading shoes (Anonymous 2011). Felt soles on the waders trap
invasive species within the felt and when the waders are used again the invasive species are
transferred to that water source. The Maryland Department of Natural Resources is following actions
already taken by New Zealand, Alaska, and Vermont to prohibit the use of felt soles (Anonymous

Scientists studying fish in the Chesapeake Bay stated that they have discovered mycobacteria in some
of the fish, causing ulcers, emaciation and sometimes death. The article also talks about this kind of
mycobacteria having harmful effects on humans. People should be more careful about dealing with
fish in the Chesapeake Bay. While the scientists are still studying and learning about this new
discovery, they are also looking into and leaning towards prevention. According to the article,

Antiheroes In Watchmen
Watchmen by Alan Moore is a graphic novel, it tells the story of groups of superheroes in the 1980 s.
The watchmen have a very dark tone with characters that are seen as antiheroes. The reason that the
superheroes in the watchmen are antiheroes is because they do not focus on saving people and helping
others like regular heroes do. They seem to care more about themselves than protecting the citizens.
Every superhero represents a different attitude and are linked with each other strongly and every one
of them is a creation of fatalism or slightly, of intention. Watchmen is set to a plan where superheroes
were related to the real and current world situations, to looks like the present problems of the worlds,
politically and socially. In Watchmen, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

incredibly hindered. Although being a standout amongst the most effective characters in this whole
anecdotal world, Daniel lives in his own particular anecdotal world one where he s defenseless and

Designing A Tower Under The Clock
For this project our group was tasked with designing a tower under the parameters of a 40 cm height
minimum and 10 x 10 cm tower base minimum using bass wood and wood glue. The overall aim was
ultimately to design a tower with the greatest mass to weight ratio. The following consists of the
procedures, results, and conclusions of our designing, constructing, and testing stages.
After the tower was completed the mass of the structure was calculated to be at around 29.2 g
(0.06437498 lbs). Through the use of sand and metal weights (i.e. 8 lbs, 15 lbs, and/or 25 lbs) the
structure withheld a force of around 102 lbs until the upper half of the tower snapped. The weight held
by the structure was divided into 62 lbs of metal weights and 40 lbs ... Show more content on

The building was created as a triangle since it would require less material and would be quicker to
create than building a four sided building.
The building stayed the same height through the sections and we felt that that would be the most
stable since the building would be able to compress upon itself instead of having to spend more time
to try and create a stable design that could withstand the forces. Even though we may be able
distribute weight with a larger base it would weigh more with a ratio that s not as good as what we
have or a ratio that has increased but compared with the effort and materials that we would need it
wouldn t be worth it.
The most difficult part of the construction was trying to connect the wall at a 60° angle without letting
it fall on itself and keeping an even space through the tower. On the first attempt we unfortunately
broke the first section of the building and noticed the glue didn t glue at connection where the wood
would meet but around the wood. After connecting the two pieces together it was simple to finish the
tower but it involved a lot of waiting time since we weren t able to move on when we connected the
wall since it was unstable since the glue wasn t dry.
Another major difficulty we had was the large amounts of time spent waiting for the glue to dry. The
tedium of having to deal with not being able to work on anything else until the structure had finished

Unnatural Events In Macbeth
In an everyday life, humans don t witness many unnatural events or objects. In the well know play that
was written by Shakespeare, Macbeth, there are many unnatural events. Shakespeare uses supernatural
elements to draw the audience for a dramatic and tragedy filled experience. un natural elements such
as witches who know the future and are able to speak for the evil spirits, Macbeth knowing his fate
and tries to take action to change it using the power of hierarch and a ghost of Macbeths best friend
that comes back the guilt Macbeth for what he has done and how he upset the natural order of life.
In this play the witches play a big part of the transition of were the plays going to go next. The witches
provide a large amount of supernatural events that take place in this play. As the witches provide
Macbeth and Banquo with their fortune or prophecy, which is the point of the play from which
Macbeth crosses the threshold. The witches also have super natural forces that allow them to
communicate with evil spirits, as quoted in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

this a dagger which I see before me, The handle toward my hand? Come, let me clutch thee.

Effective Communication In Communication
Avoid Interrupting
Resist the urge to finish sentences and/or interrupt the person speaking. This can come across as rude
and disrespectful.
This is especially important for an interview because you are trying to act as the best candidate for the
job and first impressions are crucial. You don t want your future boss to think of you as rude or
disrespectful.
Facial Expressions
Facial expressions come a long way when it comes to communicating. They show emotions and
express how you are feeling. If you are disgusted or mad, that will show through your facial
expressions. You want to smile while someone is speaking to you, and keep a positive expression on
your face. If you are the one speaking, keep your chin up and continue to keep that smile on your face
to show that you are interested in what you are saying and what is being said to you.
This is important in all cases of communication, but for an interview you want to look as if you are
interested in what is going on and being said. If you show no interest in your face, that will say a lot
about what the interviewer thinks of you and your passion for the job.
Eye Contact
Always maintain eye contact when speaking and being spoken to. This shows a lot of respect for the
person talking to you and it shows that you are interested. You don t want to be looking all around the
room when someone is speaking to you because it gives very strong signals that you are not interested
and not paying attention to what the person is

Case Study Adverse Possession
Adverse Possession
The doctrine of adverse possession obligates the title holder of land to eject, within a statutorily
prescribed period, a wrongful possessor of the land. Provided certain other elements are satisfied, a
title holder who fails this obligation will lose title to the land in question to the adverse possessor.
(Adverse Possession of, n.d.). There are four elements that must be satisfied for property to be held
adversely. First, the possession must be actual and exclusive. The possessor must take sole physical
occupancy of the property. In this case, the possession of the gazebo was exclusively hers.
The next element is that the possession must be open, visible, and notorious. Danny could see that
Lisa had possession of the gazebo since she was not being secret or clandestine. Lisa built the fence
between her and Danny s yard so she had the gazebo on her land for all the world to see.
Third element of adverse possession is that the possession must be continuous and peaceable for the
required period of time. Assuming that the state in question has an adverse ... Show more content on

Although there was no hostility displayed in this case, Lisa had the gazebo built on the property
without the permission of the owner. With this scenario, Lisa has a great case to claim adverse
possession. She has met all the elements required to win this case.
Since Danny knows where his boundaries of his property is from the survey, he would be able to
prove encroachment. An encroachment is when another person puts up a structure that intrudes on (or
over) your land . (Find Law, n.d.). There are several possible remedies for encroachment that Danny
could use. He could just talk to Lisa. The gazebo and fence could be moved to satisfy both parties.
This would save Danny and Lisa both the legal fees of the eviction suit. Danny could sell Lisa the land
that the gazebo and fence is on, giving Danny the money for the loss of his

Roman Road As A Direct Straight Forward Path
Roman Road is a direct straight forward path to the need of salvation.
As the scriptures say No one is righteous not even one (3:10). For everyone has sinned; we all fall
short of God s glorious standard (3:23). When Adam sinned, sin entered the world. Adam s sin
brought death, so death spread to everyone, for everyone sinned (5:12). For the wages of sin is death,
but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord (6:23). But God showed his great
love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners (5:8). If you openly declare that
Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is
by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and ... Show more content on

In the society we live in today people are selfish and narsistic by nature. I believe it is because the
world has fallen away from God. While Jesus walked on this earth He served. Not only did he serve
the people he met but he served God. Having a servant mentality is putting someone else s needs
before your own. Serventhood begins by fullfiling a need of a person without judgement and/or
condemnation. It could be as easy as preparing a meal for a family who has just welcomed a baby into
the family or cleaning the yard of a person who is unable to do it themselves. When a persons needs
are being met it opens their heart and mind to the reasoning behind the act. Mission trips are also a
great way of serving. Not all missions are done in other countries, they can be done in your town just
as easy as abroad. The purpose in a mission is serve a group of people on behalf of God.
An Advantage would be that a person is able to have their needs met while also witnessing the love of
Jesus. The idea behind servanthood would be to establish a relationship. Earning the trust of the
person by simply showing that their needs matter and deserve to be met. An advantage of serving
would be inviting a nonbeliever to join you on a mission trip. The thought of travel often times is
enough to get a person interested, in turn the Holy Spirit will utilize the servanthood to pour into the
heart of a nonbeliever that may not be possible in their own back yard.

Melting Pot Myths
Final Essay The myths of this chapter were all interesting, but two of them were especially
noteworthy. The Myth of the Melting Pot and of the Myths of Freedom were the most significant and
far reaching myths of the book. These are myths that every American has engrained in their minds.
Ever since birth Americans are told that they live in a free country with a diverse cultured society. But
these myths are misleading. The myth of the Melting Pot and of Freedom in accord with the other
myths mentioned in this book deceivingly make the United States appear to be more equal than it
actually is. The Myth of the Melting Pot says that the United States is like a melting pot of cultures
and ethnicities. A melting pot in this case would consist ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The country lacks the freedoms that were originally promised during its formation and also specific
freedoms that would have been reasonable to establish during this day and age. First of all, the country
lacks one of the rights promised in the First Amendment, which is the freedom of press. In The
Decline of American Press Freedom , Anne Applebaum explains many instances where freedom of
press was restricted. One of these restrictions was in Yale where the University Press was not allowed
to publish their book due to the controversial topic it was discussing. The book talked about the events
following the publication of comical depictions of the Prophet Muhammad in a 2005 Danish
newspaper. The university said that the publication was too much of a safety threat and should not be
published. (638 646) In this case, safety was valued more than a promised liberty. Next are the
liberties that were never established but should be. Lori Andrews, in her piece George Orwell... Meet

such as advertising companies. She supports her claim by including leaked search logs of real people
to show to what extent that these people record internet users actions. (707 719) As a country that

Disadvantages Of Documentary Translation
Documentary translation is one of the most prominent types of translation. It is the translation of texts
within the field of law. Law does not exist in the physical world but has been created by human
beings. Sarcevic (2000) states that the primary role of language in normative legal texts is to prescribe
legal actions, the performance of which is intended to achieve a specific goal . The language of law is
the product of historical events and the specific nature of the legal system itself. According to Heikki
Mattila, legal language is characterized by accuracy and precision. It is the dominant language in
courts and governmental institutions. Legal language is considered the language of contracts and

many movements have been raised advocating for plain English. However, the language of law
becomes a trilingual language of French, Latin and English. This proves that there is an inseparable
relationship between language and law. They are closely related. Legal language has so many
linguistic features. It has many lexical features such as redundancy, capitalization, couplings and so
many features; and syntactic features such as nominalization, impersonal style, sentence length and
many others. This research shall tackle a contrastive analysis focusing on some of the linguistic

Cajun Food Research Paper
Cajun American Culinary History
Cajun food comes from the deepest Southern parts of Louisiana and Mississippi. Like the area it
originated from, Cajun flavor is spicy, rich, and really, really good! A lot of people don t know that the
typical Cajun food was developed by extremely poor people. Refugees and farmers used what they
had to feed large families. If you ask a resident of the area, you will find out that Louisiana Creole
originated with the settling of European immigrants around 1690. These folks brought with them the
influences of European traditions including their cuisine.
Most were upper class aristocracy, so Creole today is seen as a classier, fine cuisine while Cajun is
more of a common cuisine. The main difference is that Cajun cuisine uses wild vegetables and game

This is still evidenced today in the Creole cooking we enjoy. As a lot of these people were probably
second sons with no hopes of inheriting land or holdings at home in Europe, they arrived here to
search out their fortunes. Many of these immigrants were French. The classic French dish named
Bouillabaisse is a tribute to that heritage.
In reality, Louisiana Creole cuisine is a mixture of several different and varied cultures. Soon after the
immigrants arrived in the area, native Indians introduced the use of local grown vegetables like corn,
ground sassafras and bay leaves. Tomatoes from Central and South America were also introduced. As
these ingredients began to see utilization, the Creole cuisine we know today started to take shape.
The Creoles that settled in the Louisiana area enjoyed a fairly rich lifestyle. A few years later, the
influx of African slaves brought okra seeds into the culture. Okra was added to some dishes, especially
soups, and since the African word for okra is gumbo , that is what we called the signature dish of

Mosasaur Evolution
The dominant oceanic species of the Cretaceous period was the reptilian predator, the Mosasaur. The
Tyrannosaurus Rex of oceanic fauna was a 56 foot behemoth. While there is some debate between
experts about the mosasaur s place in the pecking order of the cretaceous period, it is fairly well
accepted that mosasaurs were in general dominant to the sharks of the same period. This is the
accepted truth because mosasaurs averaged a greater size then the sharks of the time. There are
obviously a few violators of this size disparity but the mosasaur is still believed to have been
dominant. The mosasaur is generally described as being a bit like a cross between a giant monitor
lizard and a snake. Its body was shaped similarly to modern day monitor ... Show more content on

I want to finish up by talking about why we love mosasaur. Mosasaur is the sexy marine reptile
species. It was massive, it was predatory, and it was dominant. These are all things that we, as human
beings, love. We love to look at a giant like mosasaur and imagine how terrifying it must truly have
been in life. Unfortunately because of our love for mosasaur and the reasons we love him, we tend to
make it into more than it truly was. For instance in the popular movie Jurassic World we see a gigantic
mosasaurus leap out of the water like an orca to devour a shark. That is just not accurate. Mosasaurus
was far too large to propel itself out of the water like that. Moreover the mosasaur depicted in Jurassic
World was incredibly more gigantic than mosasaur actually was. Misrepresentation like this has led to
mosasaur having a larger than life image to live up to. To give you an idea of how large Jurassic World
s mosasaur was in comparison to actual mosasaur I have attached Figure 3 on page 6. Another reason
that we love mosasaur so much is that we know a lot about it. The fossil record that exists for
mosasaurus is pretty large because of the sheer number of mosasaurs that existed when they were
dominant. There are thousands of remains that have been found. The first mosasaur skeleton was
found in the Netherlands before any dinosaur remains had been discovered. The discovery of the
mosasaur led to a new age of understanding

After some discussion of forming an agreement, in which Mephistopheles becomes Faust s slave,
Faust tells Mephistopheles that he is not searching for mere happiness, but that he devote[s] [him]self
to all excess (4). This concerns what Faust truly feels there will be meaning in; the chance to feel
everything deeply. Goethe writes this to express the natural hunger in humans for vibrant experiences

Extreme learning machine proposed bycite{elm, elms} is a feed forward neural network classifier

The proposed WLEM is evaluated using the two weighting schemes which assigns classwise weights
to the instances. The performance of WELM is dependent on the choice of these weights. The
weighing schemes proposed only considers class skewness for assigning weights to the instances. It
ignores other data complexity measures as class overlapping, shape of the class, length of decision
boundary, class distribution etc. for computing the weights associated with the instances. Assigning
weights to the instances is a difficult task as we don t know that the factors responsible for data
complexity is different for different datasets.
Boosted WELM (WBELM)cite{BWELM} is a variant of adaboostcite{Schapire1999} ensemble
with WELMcite{WELM} as the component classifier. It differs from adaboost as equal weight is
assigned to all the classes irrespective of the number of instances in that class. After each iteration the
weights of the instances belonging to each class are rescaled such that total weight assigned to each
class is same.it has been reported in this papercite{BWELM} , that Boosting weighted ELM and
AdaBoost weighted ELM take about 10 and 50 times more training and testing time than weighted
ELM. It enhances the performance of WELM at the cost of increases redundancy and computational
overhead.

Analysis Of Still Life Flowers
Gloom and Formality: An Analytical Approach to Monnoyer s Still Life: Flowers
Still Life: Flowers is a 17th century painting by Jean Baptiste Monnoyer. It is an oil on canvas, and
presently resides in the Art Gallery of Ontario, in Toronto. The piece is a traditional still life. It is
vertical in its organization; the viewer s eye lands on the bright flowers and scans from top to bottom.
There are indicated lines, where the flowers grow upwards and where they drape over the sides of the
pedestal. This formation of flowers creates a triangular like shape. At the same time, the draping
flowers direct the viewer s eye down to the carved relief sculptures on the ledge, concealed in the
shadows and break this triangular formality. The emphasis ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The vertically arranged structure of the painting is translated through the indicated line of the growing
flowers. This line meets the horizontal line, which is set by the surface holding the flowers; creating a
uniform L shaped structure. However, there is some contrast to this traditionality. Only very subtly did
Monnoyer stray from this structure; through the draping flowers over the side of the ledge. The
formation of the flower arrangement indicates a triangular like shape, which creates a slightly more
dynamic focal point. It moves the viewer s eye away from the L structure, to focus on the rich colours
found throughout the triangular formation of the floral arrangement. Another line, this line being more
subtle yet still diverging the viewer s attention away from the formality of the perpendicular lines, is
created by the drapery in the dark background. It is one of the only visible features found in the
shadows, and guides the viewer s eye diagonally across the composition and to the vibrant floral
arrangement.
This oil painting displays great contrast between the lush, intense reds and pinks of the flower
arrangement and the shadowy, dark background. There is almost no definite setting, as the background
is not visible to the viewer, with the exceptions of the drapery hidden in the shadows and the sculpted
pedestal that the flowers sit upon. It is

The Equal Pay Act Essay
One problem that Americans are facing is the inequality between men and women, whether it is in
everyday life or in a professional atmosphere. One step that has been taken toward equality was
introduced with the Equal Pay Act of 1963, signed by President John F. Kennedy. This law was the
first affecting the amount of job opportunities available for women and allowing them to work in
traditionally male dominated fields. On the outside, this would sound like a solution where nothing
could possibly go wrong, but it is not.
There are nearly as many women as there are men working, yet, as it was discovered in 2011, on
average, a woman will only earn seventy seven cents for every dollar that a man earns. Women owned
businesses make up for over a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Banks, from the 1964 Disney Movie Mary Poppins, who was neglectful toward her children on her
journey for her rights.
Feminism is a living word. There can never truly be a one set definition for the word as the term has
often shifted meanings to correspond to the time period. Feminists fight for the rights that men have
under the United States Constitution and to have the right to not be discriminated against. Any action
against any woman, intentional or not, goes against the principles that many women and men stand
for.
The quest for equal rights is usually put into two different waves: the first wave being considered
women s suffrage and the second being the equal right movement. One big uprising in feminism
happened alongside the abolitionist movement. Many women started to realize that, as they were
fighting to get African Americans out of their version of perdition at the hands of their slave owners,
that they themselves were slaves to the will of the men in society. Since many women petitioned for
antislavery, the Congress in session at the time put forth the gag rule, which placed many of these
petitions off to the side for consideration.
The feminist movement that is more recognized was started by Betty Friedan. She was the author of
The Feminine Mystique, a book that called for many women to enrich themselves from the unnamed
problem that left

The Effects Of Agriculture On The Environment
Agriculture is very important, but it also harms the environment if not conducted carefully.
Agriculture is harming the quality of groundwater, the amount of nitrogen applied to the soil, and
causing runoff to go into the ocean . Agriculture is a human activity; it harms the carbon cycle and the
water cycle. Modern agricultural practices have started the process of agricultural pollution. This
process causes the degradation of the ecosystem, land, and environment due to the modern day
byproducts of agriculture. (Conserve Energy Future)
Agriculture contributes to climate change by releasing greenhouse gas emissions which disperse into
the air. According to Will Allen, green farmer extraordinaire, greenhouse gasses along with the
manufacture and use of pesticides and fertilizers, fuel and oil for tractors, equipment, trucking and
shipping, electricity for lighting, cooling, and heating, and emissions of carbon dioxide, methane,
nitrous oxide... make a huge impact on the environment. The end result can be between 25 and 30
percent of the U.S. s overall carbon footprint. The relationship between management of agricultural
and the Geoscience data, along with the results of global climate, will be discussed in the following
paragraphs.
Problem
Agriculture is the practice of farming, which can be anything from growing crops to raising animals
that provide food. Different types of farming impact the environment and ecosystems. The

Classical Music Appreciation Essay
One thing I m grateful for in my life is growing up with a background in classical music appreciation.
I remember my parents had a record of Prokofiev s Peter and the Wolf at home, and I would listen to it
all the time. The depth of the music was fascinating to my little brain, especially compared to the
childish Disney songs and bubblegum pop hits of the 90 s that I d otherwise hear on the radio. But the
reason why this work helped me with understanding music was that it was specifically aimed at kids
in order to teach them how to pick out leitmotifs, or unique, repeated phrases in the songs. Leitmotifs
are often used in classical works to tell a story, and certain instruments or melodies can represent
people, emotions, events, and other parts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

no other reason than he likes killing them. Some people argue that the best villains are ones that have
sympathetic backstories, tragic heroes that made a mistake and fell from grace. Kefka is not

how they see themselves in white society. Twenty or thirty white faces, open mouths grown large and

Victor realizes what is going, he comes to the realization that how all white people see Dirty Joe is

Indians live on a reservation it something they can afford to get drunk off of. The Holy Grail is usually
seen as a cup holding happiness and substance in abundance. What those two thing correlation is that

Summary Of Blink By Malcolm Gladwell Blink
In Chapter 2 of Blink by Malcolm Gladwell, Gladwell insist that what we think of as freewill is
largely an illusion: much of the time, we are simply operating on automatic pilot, and the way we
think and act and how we think and act on the spur of the moment are a lot more susceptible to outside
influences than we realize. (58). Gladwell is referring to priming, as human beings, our behavior and
decision making are often influenced by subtle triggers we are either aware of or not aware of. As
humans we are vulnerable to the most subtle stimuli. Gladwell provides examples of priming with
different types of exams and games administered to college students. An area where priming occurs on
a daily occurrence is at the grocery store because the products sold are strategically placed on the
shelves to target a specific audience company s want to sell their product to, the price tag are designed
with colors that we associates subconsciously with spending, and there are signs located all around the
store that tell you that you ll be saving money so that you buy more of that certain product or so you
are more likely to shop at that particular store. Priming is when subtle triggers we are either aware of
or not aware of influence our behavior. Gladwell has the reader imagine that he is a professor
proctoring a scrambled sentence test where students were asked to walk down a long hallway into an
exam room where they were given an exam with a list of five word sets and asked to change each
word set into a grammatically four word sentence as fast as possible. The test was not difficult but the
college students walked down the hallway more slowly than they walked towards the classroom. This
is because ingrained in the list were certain words that were associated with being old. This test, which
was developed by a clever psychologist named John Bargh, makes our adaptive unconsciousness
ponder about the state of being old. Further research suggests that individuals can be primed to behave
differently, various words may be used to influence people to be polite or rude. Malcolm Gladwell
demonstrates how a simple scramble sentence test challenges your sub consciousness into believing
that you are much older by simply

Let s Put an End to Parking Problems!
I would like to see the parking and traffic crunch on and around this campus eased. Unless a student
arrives before 8 o clock in the morning or in the afternoon, cruising the parking lots or streets for a
place to park is routine. Even buying a parking sticker does not mean you will have the privilege of a
space. Competition for spaces during the rush hours of 9 A.M. to 11 A.M. is cutthroat. Would be
parkers stake out sections of a parking row and sit in their cars hoping someone in their section will
leave. The other ploy is to try and catch someone who is just walking back to their car in order to

In other words, make it convenient for car poolers. In this same vein, buses or vans could be run to
outlying areas which have large numbers of Northridge students as residents. Charge a fee which
would be less than the student is now paying in parking fees and gas. If the buses or vans were
advertised in the paper to increase student interest and if they were run at convenient times, I am sure
many students would take advantage of the opportunity.
A somewhat different tack would be to encourage bicycle riding and/or walking. Many students living
close to campus still drive when they could be bicycling. Making the roads safer for bikers is of major
concern and unsafe conditions are the reasons given by many who do not ride. Providing bicycle lanes
on all streets around the campus would be extremely beneficial. This would decrease contact with the
faster moving traffic. Adding more bicycle stands on campus which are secure would also encourage
bike riding. Perhaps courses on bike riding safety could be conducted on campus. Again, advertising
of the new bike lanes and bike facilities would encourage more people to ride. Also advertising the
health benefits of riding or walking should increase the number of students who will take advantage of
this inexpensive means of transportation.
There are several reasons why this change is both

Law Shapes Experiences Of Parenthood For Same-Sex Parents

the most differentiating dissimilarities that these two families endure. In How Law Shapes
Experiences of Parenthood for Same Sex Couples, by Nicolas Park, Emily Kazyak, and Kathleen

This represents the view from the United States perspective, as the study was done in California and

experiences as a family (Park 121). Because, of these laws, so early in the process of making a family,

The daily life of children in homosexual families will help to further advance a better understanding of
the daily family life of children with parents of the same sex. Research shows that children within
these same sex families have an inclusive and flexible (Bosisio 9) representation of family. Along with
this representation in, Peer Relations Among Adolescents With Female Same Sex Parents this suggests
that important decisions about adolescent lives (such as custody determinations) should be made not
on the basis of parental sexual orientation, but by focusing instead on the qualities of adolescents
relationships with parents (Wainright 125). Quality of parent child relationship is an important factor
in any family. As this is seen as a similarity between the heterosexual and homosexual families, there
is also that one up that a statement has to be made about child on behalf of their parent s sexual
orientation. Children are uniquely vulnerable. A range of international human rights laws aim to
protect the family rights of children and recognise that the family often makes a vital contribution to
the happiness and security of children s lives (Hodson 519). Children in general do not have a choice
to what type of family dynamic they become involved in. Whether they are born into a family, or
adopted into one, it is not based on the choice of the child. Because of this, the happiness of these
children comes into question. A valid family by law is not continuous throughout the world, so if the
family is not recognized as real, it effects the children, and leads them to question then what they are.
In opposition to Bossio s claim that children have a inclusive and flexible description of family is the
work of Jacky Coates and Richard Sullivna s, Achieving Competent Family Practice with Same Sex
Parents, they claim that we do not yet live in a post heterosexist world, and

Greek Theatre Essay
It was because the Sanskrit theatre was acting oriented that it made minimum use of dramatic
properties. With massive use of prose recitations, chorus, verses and songs the Sanskrit theatre gave
greater flexibility to the dramatic speech and provide a multi level organization of communication
between characters. Another form of communication used in the Sanskrit plays is announcements or
conversation from the backstage which is known as nepathaya or the use of oracles called akashwanis
through which supernatural beings communicate. These create audio visual attractiveness and
instantly draw the audience into the play. For communicating some abstract, indirect and mental
aspects of the dramatic plays, the Sanskrit plays resort to a number of inventive devices like swagata
which is the Indian term for aside in the Western drama, janantika in which the characters exchange
ideas which are not meant for others and apavarita, in which the dialogue spoken is heard by all the
characters but for the person referred to. Of course all these expressions are meant to be heard by the
audience. Other features of the Sanskrit theatre namely are poorvaranga or the preliminaries and
rituals for propitiating the gods before the enactment of the play, generally observed behind the
curtain. The Sanskrit play generally began with invocation of the elephant headed god, Ganesha, by
the sutradhar, accompanied by music and the play ended again with a prayer by the sutradhar called

two pages long, one should not look down upon the shortness of the story, but instead be amazed at
how packed such a small piece of literature is. The major theme the story revolves around is the
oppressive views of marriage that the main character, Mrs. Mallard experiences in the latter part of the

Citizen Machiavelli In Hell
Mark Hulliung, writing in 1983, offers an extremely polemical work to the field in his book Citizen
Machiavelli. For Hulliung, Machiavelli is a genuine pagan and his intention with regard to religion
can be described only as an endeavor to replace the Christian world view with a pagan world view.
Moreover, he criticizes Christianity, while also politicizing it by appropriating it to his own end of
worldly glory. In a fashion that Robert Black later uses to brutal affect, Hulliung lambasts his
contemporary scholars, critiquing their viewpoints on Machiavelli. His Machiavelli appears as a
negative antagonistic man who wrote ironically in his religious ideals. A review of the book by Harvey
C. Mansfield points out that Hulliung s Machiavelli, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

recognized it as his duty to teach good. He further argued that throughout Machiavelli s works, he
cannot be found to speak irreverently of God. The same cannot be said for his writings on the church
and churchmen. From this small section, one notes his dislike for the church; he uses both The Prince
and Discourses to criticize the church for its corruption of the Italians and its foreign policy. However,
Grazia quickly offers and apology for Machiavelli and states that Machiavelli is neither a heretic nor a
priest hater. He did maintain his good relationship with the Church, with friends in high places such as
cardinals and even popes. Furthermore, Grazia goes on to state in the last decade of his life, our author

Analysis Of Lysistrata
In Aristophanes play Lysistrata, the plot is during the middle of the Peloponnesian war. The title
character Lysistrata, is a Athenian woman who has convened a meeting with the women whose
husbands are off fighting in the war. Lysistrata arranges the meeting in order to propose a solution to
ending the war which includes the women withholding sex from their husbands. Initially, the women
don t like the idea of her plan but soon come to agree with her after realizing that it may be the only
way to get the men to stop fighting. All of the women then take an oath and swear off sex until a peace
treaty is signed. Lysistrata also plans to attack and seize the nearby acropolis, which contains the
Athenian treasury, in order to cut off funding to the war. When the chorus of women go to the
acropolis, they are met by a chorus of men who have intentions of smoking the women out of it but
the women meet them with buckets of water. After multiple altercations with different people in the
men s chorus, one of the women s husbands shows up wanting to have sex with his wife and she plays
along with him, giving him the impression that they re going to have sex but then soon runs back to
the acropolis with the other women. Upon their return, men from both the nearby cities as well as
Sparta realize that they have something in common: their wives are all withholding sex from them and
the conspiracy is international. Upon the realization of this, the men decide to declare peace with one
another and the story concludes with large celebrations. A large portion of Aristophanes play relies
heavily on the use of women and sex in comedic ways. Aristophanes uses women to satirically
undermine the athenian government through the use of sexual comedy. Aristophanes portrays women
as irrational and lustful creatures. A large portion of the story relies heavily on this idea as for it drives
the idea as for it sets the tone for the mindset of the women. The play begins with a misinterpretation
between two characters, Calonice and Lysistrata. Lysistrata arranges the meeting of women and
Calonice is the first of the women to show up. Calonice is curious as to why Lysistrata calls the
meeting so she then asks, CALONICE. Well, Lysistrata

Cognitive Behaviorism And Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
Chapter VIII.
Cognitive Behaviorism
Cognitive behaviorism has been highly embraced by popular culture and managed care, partly because
it offers quick fixes into behavioral problems and emotional distresses. Often times, students are
confused by the terminologies cognitive and cognitive behaviorism. To add to the confusion, there is
also cognitive therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy. These terms are sometimes used
interchangeably in literature, but there are slight differences. Cognitive therapy is a specific type of
therapy technique developed by Aaron Beck in the 1960s. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a group of
therapy techniques that share similar theoretical and practical elements in counseling. Some of them
are presented later in this chapter. Both Cognitive therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy are
grouped under the field of cognitive psychology or the pragmatic school of thought, also called
cognitive approach. All of which have their roots in behaviorism. Counselors typically prefer the term
cognitive behaviorism because change in cognition impacts change in emotions and behaviors. It is
this key element that therapists strive to reach with their patients. In other words, simply changing the
cognition without changing the behavior or emotions associated with that cognition is futile.
1. Main Assumption: Individual s maladaptive emotions and behaviors are caused by their faulty ways
of thinking (cognitions).
2. Human Nature: Cognitive behaviorists believe

Life Accomplishments Of A Wild Elephant
On April 13, 1796, Barnum and Bailey Circus purchased a two year old female, Asian elephant for
one thousand dollars. This is the first of many elephants that were purchased for the two largest
circuses in America, Barnum and Bailey and Ringling Bros Circus. While today there are only around
sixty nine elephants that are still involved in the circus act, there was at one time approximately three
hundred and five. The U.S. Department of Agriculture oversees the Animal Welfare Act (AWA) and
does not distinguish between zoos and circuses. This implies that the main goals of the zoos and
circuses is the same, to use animals commercially and public exhibition. Former Ringling Bros.
employees Archele Hundley, Margaret Tom, and Robert Tom Jr. had ... Show more content on

Elephants can walk up to forty miles in the wild, but hardly get enough exercise to keep them alive in
circuses and zoos. They are forced to sleep and walk on concrete floors and are often on train cars
most of their life. This can cause arthritis, foot abscesses, and other foot and joint dangers.
The average lifespan of a wild elephant is anywhere from sixty to seventy years old. Because of
chronic health problems such as tuberculosis, arthritis, and foot abscesses, captive elephants are lucky
if they live forty years. The oldest captive elephant, Peaches, died at the age of fifty five in 2005 at the
Lincoln Park Zoo. Furthermore, attempting the breed captive elephants has been highly unsuccessful.
Of the five elephants born in 2003, three of them died within the first twelve months.
Aside from humans, elephants have no natural enemies. When left alone, elephants are peaceful
creatures and not aggressive. Naturally, elephants do not stand on their hind legs or on their heads or
perform tricks you see at the circus. In order to make an animal perform an act they do not understand,
you must literally beat them into submission. This practices are demeaning, unnatural and cause fear
in the elephants. They are routinely beaten, shocked, abused, and chained for days at a

Bob And Regan s Narration In Creating Atmosphere
Here we still get the same information, namely that Jane is Bob and Regan s sister and that she quit
her job. But we get something more as well: We also learn that Regan feels that Jane is the mother s
favorite, which might indicate that Regan is a little jealous. In addition, we learn that the sister s lack
of a job may be an issue for the entire family, precisely because of the close relationship between Jane
and her mother.
That s one level of a scene the level of spoken words. The narration steps in to reveal what the spoken
words conceal.
Creating Atmosphere
Conversations should never take place in a vacuum. The narration needs to firmly ground your reader
in time and space. But this does not mean that you should drown out your characters ... Show more

Compare and Contrast the Charge of the Light Brigade and...
Compare and contrast the two poems Dulce Et Decorum Est by Wilfred Owen and The Charge of the
Light Brigade by Alfred, Lord Tennyson. The two poems Dulce Et Decorum Est and The Charge of
the Light Brigade were both written during in a war. Dulce Et Decorum Est was written October 1917
during world war one (WW1). The earliest surviving manuscript is the letter he sent it to his Mother,
Susan Owen, with the message Here is a gas poem done yesterday, (which is not private, but not final)
. Wilfred Owens poetry was one of the most famous poets for the First World War. He was born in
1893 and died 1918 one week before the end of WW1. People were quite used to his poems being
violent and realistic mainly because he was he had ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The reader has a clear image now of the state the soldiers are in and how horrific it must have been for
them. The third line not only involves the writer in the poem but also tells the reader what they are
walking from. Till on the haunting flares we turned our backs , the word haunting is a very important
word in this line. It tells the reader that the soldiers will never forget what they have seen. I also think
Owen has used the word haunting because the word will stick in the readers mind and the poem will
haunt them just like the soldiers were haunted. On a positive note, the reader is told they are walking
away from the worst of the war. We turned our backs so they are faced away from the front line. The
forth line connects to the third line by continuing to talk about the soldiers walking back to rest. It
elaborates on line three; talking about how even though they are walking to safety it is a long way
away distant rest . Owen also uses the word trudge which is laborious walking, so not only are the
soldiers tired and have a long way to go they have a laborious walk to get back to safety. I think this
line is very important because we now know that the soldiers are walking to safety and we feel a sense
of relief for the soldiers. It also make me feel like I should cheer on the soldiers because of how strong
and brave they are, they are not only fighting for their countries but fighting for their

Human Trafficking And Sex Trafficking
A challenge that I took interest in is the horrifying problem that women and young girls face as
victims of human trafficking and sex slavery. Women and young girls make up 98% of victims of
trafficking for exploitation. Human trafficking and sex slavery is a form of modern slavery, in which
traffickers profit from the control and exploitation of others. It is a multi billion industry. Traffickers
use control of others for the purpose of engaging in sexual activities and or forcing others to provide
labor services against their will. Traffickers use many manipulative tactics to trap their victims in
horrific situations such as using violence, threats, deception, and bondage.
More women and girls are transported into brothels yearly, in the 21st century, than African slaves
were shipped into slave plantations each year in the 18th century. In the United States, sex trafficking
commonly occurs in online escort services, residential brothel, brothels that may be disguised as
businesses, and in street prostitution.
High profits and low risks are the two primary factors that drive the spread of human trafficking. It is
a market driven criminal industry that is based on the principal of supply and demand. Traffickers
generate billion of dollars in profits each year. Traffickers can be lone individuals or extensive
criminal networks. Pimps, gangs, family members, labor brokers, employers of domestic servants,
small business owners, and large factory owners have all been found

The Issue Of The Civil War
One exception to the rising trend in democracy was Rhode Island. Its policy was that voters had to
own land worth at least $134 or rent for $7 per year. Due to a growing population of wage earners who
did not own property, proponents of democracy organized a People s Convention and drafted a new
constitution. It gave all adult white men the right to vote. When reformers proceeded to ratify their
new constitution and inaugurate Thomas Dorr, Rhode Island s president, John Tyler, called on federal
troops. The movement was unsuccessful and Thomas Dorr ended up spending nearly two years in
prison for committing treason. The Dorr War made it clear how serious it was to exclude any group of
white men from voting. This eventually led to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When banks began asking for payments from the people who had been loaned money, many ...farmers

two years. It was the first of several severe downturns that would tarnish America s otherwise
vigorous economy throughout the 19th century. (Reynolds) Expansion of the West brought the
question of whether or not slavery would be allowed. In 1819, Missouri, a region carved out of
Louisiana Purchase, requested that it form its own constitution before its administration into the Union
as a state. With regards to slavery, James Tallmadge, a Republican congressman from New York,
moved that the introduction of more slaves be prohibited and that children of those already in
Missouri be freed at age twenty five. (Foner 368) This proposal ignited two years of controversy. In
1820, the senate stepped in and Jesse Thomas of Illinois proposed a three part compromise to
Talmadge s plan. First, Missouri would be allowed to draft its own Constitution. It would also ...be
admitted to the union as a slave state, but would be balanced by the admission of Maine, a free state,
that had long wanted to be separated from Massachusetts. (ushistory.org) Lastly, slavery would be
prohibited in the Louisiana Purchase s remaining territory. Thomas plan was adopted by Congress as

Investigating The Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue...
Whether it be elite athletes or weekend warriors, all athletes have experienced muscle tightness that
impacted their athletic performance. I wanted to investigate whether instrument assisted soft tissue
mobilization (IASTM) was more effective at reducing hamstring muscle tightness than foam rolling in
high school athletes. Most high school athletes work very hard at practice and in the weight room and
therefore, hamstring muscle tightness is very common. I chose the high school population because I
want to work in the high school setting following graduation. I wanted to investigate if IASTM
techniques could be more effective in the high school to reduce lower extremity muscle soreness than
foam rolling. The case series by Baker, Nasypany, Seegmiller Baker (2013) investigated the
effectiveness of IASTM for treatment of hamstring tissue extensibility dysfunction. Tissue
extensibility dysfunction (TED) includes ROM limitations during standing flexion test, sit and reach
test, passive and active straight leg hip flexion and 90/90 active knee extension test (Baker et.all). The
participants in this study consisted of three collegiate athletes who can had long lasting tightness in the
lower extremities, and exhibited hamstring TED. All patients had baseline active range motion
measurements taken. The participants recorded their pain during activity using the numerical rating
scale (NRS) during the initial examination. The participants received three IASTM treatments a week

Electronic Voting And Voting System Essay
E Voting
Introduction :
Electronic voting in polling stations is in place of the world s largest E Democracies, and I voting is
used in some, initially small and E Historically conflict free, countries. Many countries were currently
considering Introducing E Voting systems with the goal of improving various aspects of the Electoral
process. E voting is often seen as a tool for advance democracy, building faith in electoral
management, adding credibility to election results and increasing the exhaustive efficiency of the
electoral process. The technology is evolving fast and election managers, observers, IO (international
organizations), vendors and standardization bodies are consecutively updating their methodologies
and approaches. The main reason why E Voting have gained such success in these country is just
because of convenience in this voting system as comparison to other traditional voting system. To
increasing participation of more and more people in the polls we required Hi Tech. voting techniques
which will enhance and strength this democracy process. E Voting technology can speed the counting
of ballots can extend improved the advantage for incapacitate(disable) voters The one most important
benefit using E voting is that it will increase overall turnout because the voters can vote from any
place either he/she is in the state or out of the state. Kenya is a country who has already implemented

Hematoma Research Paper
Choice A is the best answer. All of the choices are complications of parathyroid surgery. The
development of an expanding hematoma in the pretracheal space has the highest mortality in
postoperative patients if left untreated as it compresses the airway. This complication must be
recognized and treated immediately by opening the wound and evacuating the hematoma. If untreated,
the hematoma may progress rapidly, causing airway obstruction. In contrast, most small hematomas
do not require treatment[1].
Choice B is not the best answer. After a 4 parathyroid gland exploration, calcium levels must be
monitored postoperatively every 12 hours until stabilization. The nadir of serum calcium usually
occurs 24 72 hours postoperatively. Many patients become hypocalcemic, but few become
symptomatic. Treatment is reserved for patients with severe hypocalcemia or in patients who ... Show

If hypoparathyroidism persists after surgery, oral supplementation with calcium and vitamin D is
required. Calcium citrate or calcium carbonate may be started at 2 tablets, 4 times per day. Some
patients require substantially more. Calcitriol is started at 0.5 mcg twice daily and increased as
required. Patients in whom total parathyroidectomy and auto transplantation is performed, they can be
expected to require only temporary calcium supplementation[1].
Choice D is not the best answer. If a recurrent laryngeal nerve is transected during parathyroidectomy,
immediate repair is indicated. Damage to the external branch of the superior laryngeal nerve can cause
the patient to lose the ability to sing, shout or project their voice. If the recurrent nerve is unknowingly
injured intraoperatively, but dysfunction is suggested because the patient has developed new
hoarseness, expectant management is chosen initially since most patients recover nerve function over
a few weeks to months. Laryngoscopy is indicated to document both dysfunction and recovery of

The Last Red Macaw
Bartholomew sat on the dirty plane flying from San Francisco to St. Croix in the US Virgin Islands.
He thought about his current assignment and how he was going to find this very rare animal in less
than two weeks. But he also thought about the rewards. If he was able to find this rare animal he
would be paid one thousand dollars per day, which is double the amount of the regular salary. This
was obviously a big deal for his employer, National Geographic, and he was very nervous that he was
going to let them down. Bartholomew had never failed an assignment and was not about to fail this
one. He told himself to shape up and look on the bright side. If he did complete this assignment he
would be paid a fortune! Bartholomew just landed at the Henry E. Rohlsen airport in St. Croix. Tortola
is the main island in the area of the caribbean called the US Virgin islands. Bartholomew and his wife,
Makaela, are now in a race against time. They quickly scramble to exit the airport with all of their
luggage in hand. A van was waiting for them at the airport. The first thing they experience about the
virgin islands is that they have a very interesting accent. Even though they speak in english, it is a
dialect that any normal english speaker can not understand. Bartholomew tells the driver, to the
Moorings dock and the driver starts the engine and takes off. They drive past the heart of the city and

Wicca and Wiccan Practitioners Essay
Wicca one of the most recognizable pagan religions today in the USA and Great Britain is also
unfortunately, like many pagan religions, still greatly misunderstood by the general population: mainly
due to the media s often inaccurate or highly skewed presentation of Wicca and Wiccan practitioners.
This inaccurate depiction of Wicca and Wiccans often leads to people lumping Wiccans together with
occultists and Satanists and all the negative connotations that surround those words. Luckily, Wiccans
are neither occultist nor Satanists. Instead Wiccans are part witch part pagans whose unique beliefs,
traditions, and practices set them apart from other witches and pagans.
A large part of being a Wiccan is also being a witch. But what exactly ... Show more content on

However, this does not mean we are all witches; in order to be a witch one must self identify as a
witch. Other types of magic can include healing, protection, divination, etc. Also it is important to note
that while all Wiccans are witches, not all witches are Wiccans as witches can be of any faith.
Another key aspect of being a Wiccan is being a pagan or neopagan. As defined by Prudence Jones
from the Pagan Federation International, pagan is a term used to describe a follower of a polytheistic
or pantheistic nature worshipping religion, while neopagan is a term used to describe those whose
religions, as Eric A. Powell states in his article Solstice at the Stones, consist of modern beliefs
inspired by ancient religious practices (36). According to Jones, the term neopagan is also used to
describe all those [religions] who are recognisably [sic] Pagan, but who do not adhere to any of the
standard [pagan] traditions. However, since most pagans today are actually neopagans as Powell
explains, modern pagans are more interested in evolving and cultivating their own practices rather
than trying to emulate traditional, ancient practices (41) often neopagans are simply referred to as
pagans.
According Jones, besides finding nature sacred, many pagan religions are polytheistic with many
believing in at least a god and a goddess. Again it is important to note that while all Wiccans are
pagans, not all pagans are Wiccans. For example, according to the

Possible Drought In California
Can you imagine living in a nauseating, vile, and disgusting manner? Well Californians can. Currently,
the state of California is in the midst of a severe drought. This drought is one of the worst droughts in
the state s recorded history. Due to this drought, more than a thousand of California s residents have
lost their water. The drought sparks a conflict for the residents. People can not bathe, use their toilets,
wash their dishes, or do anything with water. Because of the overuse of groundwater, a law is being
established in the California State Legislature that would maintain aquifer, the pumping of
groundwater, for the first time in history. In other words, residents would not be able to pump water
which is naturally available under their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If California regulates aquifer, farmers are going to be looking at buying less pickups, employing less
people, and buying less tractors (Source 1). We are tied to the groundwater 100 percent, a farmer said,
so ultimately it will have an effect on consumer prices. There s just no getting around that (Source 1).
The crippling drought is expected to cost the state $2.2 billion in 2014 and put more than 17,000 farm
workers out of a job, according to a July study partly funded by the state s department of food and
agriculture (Source 2). If aquifer is regulated, the economy is going to crash, prices of food will go up,
if prices of food go up, prices of everything will go up, farmers will go out of business, people who
work for farmers will lose their jobs, people who sell farmers equipment won t sell enough hardware
and make less money, and the government will lose billions of dollars. Also, ⅓ of the world is fed by
farmers in California and if aquifer is regulated, ⅓ of the world will not have enough food and there
might be a possibility of hunger. Californians aren t realizing this. City folks just don t understand that
they re biting the hand that feeds them (Source 1). We need groundwater for the sake of our

  • 2. Single-Proton Research Paper The neutron is a subatomic particle, symbol n or n0 , with no net electric charge and a mass slightly larger than that of a proton. Protons and neutrons constitute the nuclei of atoms. Since protons and neutrons behave similarly within the nucleus, and each has a mass of approximately one atomic mass unit, they are both referred to as nucleons.[5] Their properties and interactions are described by nuclear physics. The chemical and nuclear properties of the nucleus are determined by the number of protons, called the atomic number, and the number of neutrons, called the neutron number. The atomic mass number is the total number of nucleons. For example, carbon has atomic number 6, and its abundant carbon 12 isotope has 6 neutrons, whereas its rare carbon 13 isotope has 7 neutrons. Some elements occur in nature with only one stable isotope, such as fluorine. Other elements occur with many stable isotopes, such as tin with ten stable isotopes. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Neutrons are required for the stability of nuclei, with the exception of the single proton hydrogen atom. Neutrons are produced copiously in nuclear fission and fusion. They are a primary contributor to the nucleosynthesis of chemical elements within stars through fission, fusion, and neutron capture processes. The neutron is essential to the production of nuclear power. In the decade after the neutron was discovered by James Chadwick in 1932,[6] neutrons were used to induce many different types of nuclear transmutations. With the discovery of nuclear fission in 1938,[7] it was quickly realized that, if a fission event produced neutrons, each of these neutrons might cause further fission events, etc., in a cascade known as a nuclear chain reaction.[8] These events and findings led to the first self sustaining nuclear reactor (Chicago Pile 1, 1942) and the first nuclear weapon (Trinity, ... • 3. The Seven Main Ideas Of The Declaration Of Independence The Declaration of Independence states that people have the right to revolt when the government fails to protect the people s rights. The government s job is to protect everyone s natural rights. Cinque lost all of his rights when as several men took him forcibly from his home and put him on a ship. Cinque and the Africans became imprisoned and treaty horribly on the ships. Because the government failed to protect their rights, Cinque had the right to revolt. The Declaration states the seven main ideas that Americans think that government should follow. Americans believe in the idea that everyone is born with specific rights that no government can confiscate from them. This idea is called the Law of Nature. The rights in the Law of Nature are called Natural Rights. The three rights included in the Law of Nature are life, liberty, and property. When people willingly chose to abandon the state of nature and come to terms with the ideas of government, they give their consent. They willingly surrender some of their freedoms. In return, they receive protection and safety from the government. When everyone gives their consent, a legitimate government can be created. The State of Nature does not provide safety. To gain safety, people create a social contract. They establish a new government. That government will protect the people by enforcing the rules, and the people promise to follow these laws. • 4. Chesapeake Bay Prevention Essay Prevention is necessary to control many problems in the Chesapeake Bay. Prevention can range from something as big as a government issue or as small as a single person helping out. The greatest chance at total protection for water quality is when many people and organizations work together to prevent problems. According to the Chesapeake Bay Program, Federal, state and non profit Bay Program partners are working with farmers, developers, homeowners and local governments to reduce pollutants from multiple sources and restore water quality for all to enjoy (Chesapeake Bay Program). The Chesapeake Bay Program is doing many things to help with prevention of water quality. Extreme amounts of nutrients and sedimentation are entering the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, the Monkton Fly Shop in Maryland will be cleaning six wader wash stations so waders can be cleaned from invasive species. These wash stations are there to wash invasive species off of waders so invasive species are not transferred into the Chesapeake Bay. The fly shop s twice weekly online fishing report (www.backwaterangler.com) regularly reminds Gunpowder anglers to wash, scrub, and rinse their boots and wading shoes (Anonymous 2011). Felt soles on the waders trap invasive species within the felt and when the waders are used again the invasive species are transferred to that water source. The Maryland Department of Natural Resources is following actions already taken by New Zealand, Alaska, and Vermont to prohibit the use of felt soles (Anonymous 2011). Scientists studying fish in the Chesapeake Bay stated that they have discovered mycobacteria in some of the fish, causing ulcers, emaciation and sometimes death. The article also talks about this kind of mycobacteria having harmful effects on humans. People should be more careful about dealing with fish in the Chesapeake Bay. While the scientists are still studying and learning about this new discovery, they are also looking into and leaning towards prevention. • 5. Antiheroes In Watchmen Watchmen by Alan Moore is a graphic novel, it tells the story of groups of superheroes in the 1980 s. The watchmen have a very dark tone with characters that are seen as antiheroes. The reason that the superheroes in the watchmen are antiheroes is because they do not focus on saving people and helping others like regular heroes do. They seem to care more about themselves than protecting the citizens. Every superhero represents a different attitude and are linked with each other strongly and every one of them is a creation of fatalism or slightly, of intention. Watchmen is set to a plan where superheroes were related to the real and current world situations, to looks like the present problems of the worlds, politically and socially. In Watchmen, ... Although being a standout amongst the most effective characters in this whole anecdotal world, Daniel lives in his own particular anecdotal world one where he s defenseless and barren. Avoidant Personality Disorder (APD) is portrayed by a universal example of social limitation, sentiments of deficiency, compelling affectability to contrary assessment, and shirking of social collaboration. • 6. Designing A Tower Under The Clock For this project our group was tasked with designing a tower under the parameters of a 40 cm height minimum and 10 x 10 cm tower base minimum using bass wood and wood glue. The overall aim was ultimately to design a tower with the greatest mass to weight ratio. The following consists of the procedures, results, and conclusions of our designing, constructing, and testing stages. After the tower was completed the mass of the structure was calculated to be at around 29.2 g (0.06437498 lbs). Through the use of sand and metal weights (i.e. 8 lbs, 15 lbs, and/or 25 lbs) the structure withheld a force of around 102 lbs until the upper half of the tower snapped. The weight held by the structure was divided into 62 lbs of metal weights and 40 lbs ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The building was created as a triangle since it would require less material and would be quicker to create than building a four sided building. The building stayed the same height through the sections and we felt that that would be the most stable since the building would be able to compress upon itself instead of having to spend more time to try and create a stable design that could withstand the forces. Even though we may be able distribute weight with a larger base it would weigh more with a ratio that s not as good as what we have or a ratio that has increased but compared with the effort and materials that we would need it wouldn t be worth it. The most difficult part of the construction was trying to connect the wall at a 60° angle without letting it fall on itself and keeping an even space through the tower. On the first attempt we unfortunately broke the first section of the building and noticed the glue didn t glue at connection where the wood would meet but around the wood. After connecting the two pieces together it was simple to finish the tower but it involved a lot of waiting time since we weren t able to move on when we connected the wall since it was unstable since the glue wasn t dry. Another major difficulty we had was the large amounts of time spent waiting for the glue to dry. The tedium of having to deal with not being able to work on anything else until the structure had finished ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Effective Communication In Communication Avoid Interrupting Resist the urge to finish sentences and/or interrupt the person speaking. This can come across as rude and disrespectful. This is especially important for an interview because you are trying to act as the best candidate for the job and first impressions are crucial. You don t want your future boss to think of you as rude or disrespectful. Facial Expressions Facial expressions come a long way when it comes to communicating. They show emotions and express how you are feeling. If you are disgusted or mad, that will show through your facial expressions. You want to smile while someone is speaking to you, and keep a positive expression on your face. If you are the one speaking, keep your chin up and continue to keep that smile on your face to show that you are interested in what you are saying and what is being said to you. This is important in all cases of communication, but for an interview you want to look as if you are interested in what is going on and being said. If you show no interest in your face, that will say a lot about what the interviewer thinks of you and your passion for the job. Eye Contact Always maintain eye contact when speaking and being spoken to. This shows a lot of respect for the person talking to you and it shows that you are interested. You don t want to be looking all around the room when someone is speaking to you because it gives very strong signals that you are not interested and not paying attention to what the person is ... • 9. Case Study Adverse Possession Adverse Possession The doctrine of adverse possession obligates the title holder of land to eject, within a statutorily prescribed period, a wrongful possessor of the land. Provided certain other elements are satisfied, a title holder who fails this obligation will lose title to the land in question to the adverse possessor. (Adverse Possession of, n.d.). There are four elements that must be satisfied for property to be held adversely. First, the possession must be actual and exclusive. The possessor must take sole physical occupancy of the property. In this case, the possession of the gazebo was exclusively hers. The next element is that the possession must be open, visible, and notorious. Danny could see that Lisa had possession of the gazebo since she was not being secret or clandestine. Lisa built the fence between her and Danny s yard so she had the gazebo on her land for all the world to see. Third element of adverse possession is that the possession must be continuous and peaceable for the required period of time. Assuming that the state in question has an adverse ... • 10. Roman Road As A Direct Straight Forward Path Roman Road is a direct straight forward path to the need of salvation. As the scriptures say No one is righteous not even one (3:10). For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God s glorious standard (3:23). When Adam sinned, sin entered the world. Adam s sin brought death, so death spread to everyone, for everyone sinned (5:12). For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord (6:23). But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners (5:8). If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the society we live in today people are selfish and narsistic by nature. I believe it is because the world has fallen away from God. While Jesus walked on this earth He served. Not only did he serve the people he met but he served God. Having a servant mentality is putting someone else s needs before your own. Serventhood begins by fullfiling a need of a person without judgement and/or condemnation. It could be as easy as preparing a meal for a family who has just welcomed a baby into the family or cleaning the yard of a person who is unable to do it themselves. When a persons needs are being met it opens their heart and mind to the reasoning behind the act. Mission trips are also a great way of serving. Not all missions are done in other countries, they can be done in your town just as easy as abroad. The purpose in a mission is serve a group of people on behalf of God. An Advantage would be that a person is able to have their needs met while also witnessing the love of Jesus. The idea behind servanthood would be to establish a relationship. Earning the trust of the person by simply showing that their needs matter and deserve to be met. An advantage of serving would be inviting a nonbeliever to join you on a mission trip. The thought of travel often times is enough to get a person interested, in turn the Holy Spirit will utilize the servanthood to pour into the heart of a nonbeliever that may not be possible in their own back yard. ... • 11. Melting Pot Myths Final Essay The myths of this chapter were all interesting, but two of them were especially noteworthy. The Myth of the Melting Pot and of the Myths of Freedom were the most significant and far reaching myths of the book. These are myths that every American has engrained in their minds. Ever since birth Americans are told that they live in a free country with a diverse cultured society. But these myths are misleading. The myth of the Melting Pot and of Freedom in accord with the other myths mentioned in this book deceivingly make the United States appear to be more equal than it actually is. The country lacks the freedoms that were originally promised during its formation and also specific freedoms that would have been reasonable to establish during this day and age. First of all, the country lacks one of the rights promised in the First Amendment, which is the freedom of press. In The Decline of American Press Freedom , Anne Applebaum explains many instances where freedom of press was restricted. One of these restrictions was in Yale where the University Press was not allowed to publish their book due to the controversial topic it was discussing. The book talked about the events following the publication of comical depictions of the Prophet Muhammad in a 2005 Danish newspaper. The university said that the publication was too much of a safety threat and should not be published. (638 646) In this case, safety was valued more than a promised liberty. Next are the liberties that were never established but should be. Lori Andrews, in her piece George Orwell... Law does not exist in the physical world but has been created by human beings. Sarcevic (2000) states that the primary role of language in normative legal texts is to prescribe legal actions, the performance of which is intended to achieve a specific goal . Then many movements have been raised advocating for plain English. However, the language of law becomes a trilingual language of French, Latin and English. This proves that there is an inseparable relationship between language and law. They are closely related. Legal language has so many linguistic features. Like the area it originated from, Cajun flavor is spicy, rich, and really, really good! A lot of people don t know that the typical Cajun food was developed by extremely poor people. Refugees and farmers used what they had to feed large families. If you ask a resident of the area, you will find out that Louisiana Creole originated with the settling of European immigrants around 1690. As a lot of these people were probably second sons with no hopes of inheriting land or holdings at home in Europe, they arrived here to search out their fortunes. Many of these immigrants were French. The classic French dish named Bouillabaisse is a tribute to that heritage. In reality, Louisiana Creole cuisine is a mixture of several different and varied cultures. Soon after the immigrants arrived in the area, native Indians introduced the use of local grown vegetables like corn, ground sassafras and bay leaves. Tomatoes from Central and South America were also introduced. As these ingredients began to see utilization, the Creole cuisine we know today started to take shape. The Creoles that settled in the Louisiana area enjoyed a fairly rich lifestyle. A few years later, the influx of African slaves brought okra seeds into the culture. While there is some debate between experts about the mosasaur s place in the pecking order of the cretaceous period, it is fairly well accepted that mosasaurs were in general dominant to the sharks of the same period. This is the accepted truth because mosasaurs averaged a greater size then the sharks of the time. There are obviously a few violators of this size disparity but the mosasaur is still believed to have been dominant. These are all things that we, as human beings, love. We love to look at a giant like mosasaur and imagine how terrifying it must truly have been in life. Unfortunately because of our love for mosasaur and the reasons we love him, we tend to make it into more than it truly was. For instance in the popular movie Jurassic World we see a gigantic mosasaurus leap out of the water like an orca to devour a shark. That is just not accurate. Mosasaurus was far too large to propel itself out of the water like that. Moreover the mosasaur depicted in Jurassic World was incredibly more gigantic than mosasaur actually was. Misrepresentation like this has led to mosasaur having a larger than life image to live up to. To give you an idea of how large Jurassic World s mosasaur was in comparison to actual mosasaur I have attached Figure 3 on page 6. Another reason that we love mosasaur so much is that we know a lot about it. The fossil record that exists for mosasaurus is pretty large because of the sheer number of mosasaurs that existed when they were dominant. There are thousands of remains that have been found. The first mosasaur skeleton was found in the Netherlands before any dinosaur remains had been discovered. The discovery of the mosasaur led to a new age of understanding ... After some discussion of forming an agreement, in which Mephistopheles becomes Faust s slave, Faust tells Mephistopheles that he is not searching for mere happiness, but that he devote[s] [him]self to all excess (4). There are indicated lines, where the flowers grow upwards and where they drape over the sides of the pedestal. This formation of flowers creates a triangular like shape. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The vertically arranged structure of the painting is translated through the indicated line of the growing flowers. This line meets the horizontal line, which is set by the surface holding the flowers; creating a uniform L shaped structure. However, there is some contrast to this traditionality. Only very subtly did Monnoyer stray from this structure; through the draping flowers over the side of the ledge. The formation of the flower arrangement indicates a triangular like shape, which creates a slightly more dynamic focal point. It moves the viewer s eye away from the L structure, to focus on the rich colours found throughout the triangular formation of the floral arrangement. Another line, this line being more subtle yet still diverging the viewer s attention away from the formality of the perpendicular lines, is created by the drapery in the dark background. This oil painting displays great contrast between the lush, intense reds and pinks of the flower arrangement and the shadowy, dark background. The quest for equal rights is usually put into two different waves: the first wave being considered women s suffrage and the second being the equal right movement. One big uprising in feminism happened alongside the abolitionist movement. Many women started to realize that, as they were fighting to get African Americans out of their version of perdition at the hands of their slave owners, that they themselves were slaves to the will of the men in society. Since many women petitioned for antislavery, the Congress in session at the time put forth the gag rule, which placed many of these petitions off to the side for consideration. Summary Of Blink By Malcolm Gladwell Blink In Chapter 2 of Blink by Malcolm Gladwell, Gladwell insist that what we think of as freewill is largely an illusion: much of the time, we are simply operating on automatic pilot, and the way we think and act and how we think and act on the spur of the moment are a lot more susceptible to outside influences than we realize. (58). Gladwell is referring to priming, as human beings, our behavior and decision making are often influenced by subtle triggers we are either aware of or not aware of. As humans we are vulnerable to the most subtle stimuli. Gladwell provides examples of priming with different types of exams and games administered to college students. An area where priming occurs on a daily occurrence is at the grocery store because the products sold are strategically placed on the shelves to target a specific audience company s want to sell their product to, the price tag are designed with colors that we associates subconsciously with spending, and there are signs located all around the store that tell you that you ll be saving money so that you buy more of that certain product or so you are more likely to shop at that particular store. Priming is when subtle triggers we are either aware of or not aware of influence our behavior. Gladwell has the reader imagine that he is a professor proctoring a scrambled sentence test where students were asked to walk down a long hallway into an exam room where they were given an exam with a list of five word sets and asked to change each word set into a grammatically four word sentence as fast as possible. The test was not difficult but the college students walked down the hallway more slowly than they walked towards the classroom. This is because ingrained in the list were certain words that were associated with being old. This test, which was developed by a clever psychologist named John Bargh, makes our adaptive unconsciousness ponder about the state of being old. Further research suggests that individuals can be primed to behave differently, various words may be used to influence people to be polite or rude. The daily life of children in homosexual families will help to further advance a better understanding of the daily family life of children with parents of the same sex. Research shows that children within these same sex families have an inclusive and flexible (Bosisio 9) representation of family. Along with this representation in, Peer Relations Among Adolescents With Female Same Sex Parents this suggests that important decisions about adolescent lives (such as custody determinations) should be made not on the basis of parental sexual orientation, but by focusing instead on the qualities of adolescents relationships with parents (Wainright 125). Quality of parent child relationship is an important factor in any family. As this is seen as a similarity between the heterosexual and homosexual families, there is also that one up that a statement has to be made about child on behalf of their parent s sexual orientation. Children are uniquely vulnerable. A range of international human rights laws aim to protect the family rights of children and recognise that the family often makes a vital contribution to the happiness and security of children s lives (Hodson 519). Children in general do not have a choice to what type of family dynamic they become involved in. Whether they are born into a family, or adopted into one, it is not based on the choice of the child. Because of this, the happiness of these children comes into question. A valid family by law is not continuous throughout the world, so if the family is not recognized as real, it effects the children, and leads them to question then what they are. With massive use of prose recitations, chorus, verses and songs the Sanskrit theatre gave greater flexibility to the dramatic speech and provide a multi level organization of communication between characters. Another form of communication used in the Sanskrit plays is announcements or conversation from the backstage which is known as nepathaya or the use of oracles called akashwanis through which supernatural beings communicate. These create audio visual attractiveness and instantly draw the audience into the play. For communicating some abstract, indirect and mental aspects of the dramatic plays, the Sanskrit plays resort to a number of inventive devices like swagata which is the Indian term for aside in the Western drama, janantika in which the characters exchange ideas which are not meant for others and apavarita, in which the dialogue spoken is heard by all the characters but for the person referred to. Of course all these expressions are meant to be heard by the audience. • 35. Citizen Machiavelli In Hell Mark Hulliung, writing in 1983, offers an extremely polemical work to the field in his book Citizen Machiavelli. For Hulliung, Machiavelli is a genuine pagan and his intention with regard to religion can be described only as an endeavor to replace the Christian world view with a pagan world view. Moreover, he criticizes Christianity, while also politicizing it by appropriating it to his own end of worldly glory. In a fashion that Robert Black later uses to brutal affect, Hulliung lambasts his contemporary scholars, critiquing their viewpoints on Machiavelli. His Machiavelli appears as a negative antagonistic man who wrote ironically in his religious ideals. A review of the book by Harvey C. Mansfield points out that Hulliung s Machiavelli, ... In his pivotal work, which won the Pulitzer for 1990, Grazia argues for a moralistic Machiavelli, who urged others toward right conduct, and recognized it as his duty to teach good. He further argued that throughout Machiavelli s works, he cannot be found to speak irreverently of God. The same cannot be said for his writings on the church and churchmen. From this small section, one notes his dislike for the church; he uses both The Prince and Discourses to criticize the church for its corruption of the Italians and its foreign policy. However, Grazia quickly offers and apology for Machiavelli and states that Machiavelli is neither a heretic nor a priest hater. He did maintain his good relationship with the Church, with friends in high places such as cardinals and even popes. Furthermore, Grazia goes on to state in the last decade of his life, our author (Machiavelli) will find more support for his ideas and works in popes and cardinals than in Florentine public officials. One average senior high day, I walk into the Human Services classroom and sit down at my desk. • 37. Analysis Of Lysistrata In Aristophanes play Lysistrata, the plot is during the middle of the Peloponnesian war. The title character Lysistrata, is a Athenian woman who has convened a meeting with the women whose husbands are off fighting in the war. Lysistrata arranges the meeting in order to propose a solution to ending the war which includes the women withholding sex from their husbands. Initially, the women don t like the idea of her plan but soon come to agree with her after realizing that it may be the only way to get the men to stop fighting. All of the women then take an oath and swear off sex until a peace treaty is signed. Lysistrata also plans to attack and seize the nearby acropolis, which contains the Athenian treasury, in order to cut off funding to the war. When the chorus of women go to the acropolis, they are met by a chorus of men who have intentions of smoking the women out of it but the women meet them with buckets of water. After multiple altercations with different people in the men s chorus, one of the women s husbands shows up wanting to have sex with his wife and she plays along with him, giving him the impression that they re going to have sex but then soon runs back to the acropolis with the other women. Upon their return, men from both the nearby cities as well as Sparta realize that they have something in common: their wives are all withholding sex from them and the conspiracy is international. Upon the realization of this, the men decide to declare peace with one another and the story concludes with large celebrations. A large portion of Aristophanes play relies heavily on the use of women and sex in comedic ways. Aristophanes uses women to satirically undermine the athenian government through the use of sexual comedy. Aristophanes portrays women as irrational and lustful creatures. A large portion of the story relies heavily on this idea as for it drives the idea as for it sets the tone for the mindset of the women. The play begins with a misinterpretation between two characters, Calonice and Lysistrata. Lysistrata arranges the meeting of women and Calonice is the first of the women to show up. Calonice is curious as to why Lysistrata calls the meeting so she then asks, CALONICE. Well, Lysistrata ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 40. Cognitive Behaviorism And Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Chapter VIII. Cognitive Behaviorism Cognitive behaviorism has been highly embraced by popular culture and managed care, partly because it offers quick fixes into behavioral problems and emotional distresses. Often times, students are confused by the terminologies cognitive and cognitive behaviorism. To add to the confusion, there is also cognitive therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy. These terms are sometimes used interchangeably in literature, but there are slight differences. Cognitive therapy is a specific type of therapy technique developed by Aaron Beck in the 1960s. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a group of therapy techniques that share similar theoretical and practical elements in counseling. Some of them are presented later in this chapter. Both Cognitive therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy are grouped under the field of cognitive psychology or the pragmatic school of thought, also called cognitive approach. All of which have their roots in behaviorism. Counselors typically prefer the term cognitive behaviorism because change in cognition impacts change in emotions and behaviors. It is this key element that therapists strive to reach with their patients. In other words, simply changing the cognition without changing the behavior or emotions associated with that cognition is futile. 1. Main Assumption: Individual s maladaptive emotions and behaviors are caused by their faulty ways of thinking (cognitions). 2. Human Nature: Cognitive behaviorists believe ... I also think Owen has used the word haunting because the word will stick in the readers mind and the poem will haunt them just like the soldiers were haunted. On a positive note, the reader is told they are walking away from the worst of the war. We turned our backs so they are faced away from the front line. Women and young girls make up 98% of victims of trafficking for exploitation. Human trafficking and sex slavery is a form of modern slavery, in which traffickers profit from the control and exploitation of others. It is a multi billion industry. Traffickers use control of others for the purpose of engaging in sexual activities and or forcing others to provide labor services against their will. Traffickers use many manipulative tactics to trap their victims in horrific situations such as using violence, threats, deception, and bondage. Another key aspect of being a Wiccan is being a pagan or neopagan. As defined by Prudence Jones from the Pagan Federation International, pagan is a term used to describe a follower of a polytheistic or pantheistic nature worshipping religion, while neopagan is a term used to describe those whose religions, as Eric A. According to Jones, the term neopagan is also used to describe all those [religions] who are recognisably [sic] Pagan, but who do not adhere to any of the standard [pagan] traditions. However, since most pagans today are actually neopagans as Powell explains, modern pagans are more interested in evolving and cultivating their own practices rather than trying to emulate traditional, ancient practices (41) often neopagans are simply referred to as pagans.
