Homeland Security And The Security
Differences The idea of securing the nation s borders and securing the safety of the citizens has been a
major topic since the beginning of the nation s existence. There have always been means and
procedures for it but it was never defined to the point it is today. The Homeland Security Department
is a fairly new program which is constantly improving and adjusting in accordance to the threats that
may arise. In the attempt to secure the United States, homeland security has become paramount and a
lot of emphasis is being provided so as to ensure the safety of the borders and the citizens of the
United States. So one must ponder what the difference between homeland security and homeland
defense are since they both tend to mean the same ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Later, the federal, state, and local government responses to disasters such as Hurricane Katrina
expanded the concept of homeland security to include significant disasters, major public health
emergencies, and other events that threaten the United States, its economy, the rule of law, and
government operations (2). Homeland security is the combination of law enforcement, immigration,
disaster relief, and terrorist activities within the United States borders. This would be based on the
local agencies and civilian departments to safeguard the people from any threat within while being
assisted by the government. In some aspects of terror attacks, there will be a combination of both
homeland security and homeland defense. 9/11 is the perfect example as homeland security was
responding to the local disasters and threats while the homeland defense, military, was deploying to
get to the root of the threats. This is essential to the way homeland security operates because this will
stop the attack on the nation s soil before it reaches the borders and local government agencies are
required. The biggest issue with the homeland security aspect is that the

The Nature of Humans in Lord of the Flies by William Golding
The nature of human: are humans born good or evil? These two opposing views on human nature are
two topics that Rousseau and Golding have both touched upon. While Golding believes that humans
are born inherently evil, Rousseau believes the opposite: that humans are inherently good. Golding
wrote the novel Lord of the Flies as a response of the novel, The Coral Island by R.M. Ballantyne
because he believed that it was far fetched. In this novel Ballantyne s main characters are able to enjoy
their time on the deserted island. My opinion on this matter leans to Rousseau s side. I believe that
people are born naturally good. Jean Jacques Rousseau was born in Geneva in 1712 and died in 1778
in France. While Golding lived through the two World Wars, Rousseau never lived through such
conflict. A topic of Rousseau s that always came up is about how humans can keep their freedom
despite their dependence on one another. He believed that there were two things that had something to
do with this topic and that was a human s material and psychological need and that the latter was more
important. Rousseau believed that humans get their sense of self due to opinion of others. Rousseau
believes that humans are inherently born good and that and that it is society s corruption that causes
humans to be evil. William Golding was born in 1911 in Cornwall, England and died in 1993. William
Golding was born only three years before the start of World War I. Golding lived through both World

Levendary Café:
The China Challenge
Levendary Café was spun out from private equity ownership in January 2011, and the following
month, Mia Foster was named as its new CEO. The departing CEO, Howard Leventhal, was the
beloved founder of the popular chain of 3,500 cafés. He had grown a small Denver soup, salad, and
sandwich restaurant into a $10 billion business, but after 32 years was moving on to new interests.
This was Foster s first job as CEO. Previously, the 47 year old had been president of the U.S. business

The Multi Unit Restaurant Business
In 2010, the U.S. restaurant and contract foodservice industry was a $600 billion industry with
960,000 locations.1 Multi unit restaurant concepts represented approximately 30% of the industry by
units, with independent operators as the balance. The restaurant and foodservice industry was highly
fragmented, and even industry giant McDonald s generated just 2% of total revenues.
Multi unit concepts were generally categorized into three industry segments:
Specialty Establishments like Starbucks, Dunkin Donuts, and Baskin Robbins primarily served snacks
and beverages under $5.
Quick Service Restaurants, or so called fast food concepts like McDonald s, Taco Bell, and
Wendy s, provided counter or drive through service with average tickets between $4 and $10.
Casual Dining included brands like Olive Garden, Applebee s, and Outback, and offered table service
for dinner entrees priced between $8 and $20. Within this group, fine dining concepts like Ruth s
Chris and Capital Grille featured entrées into the $40 range.
While some concepts had bridged these categories for years (e.g., Friendly s offered casual dining
coupled with a strong takeaway ice cream business), more recently several concepts had clustered
around an emerging category often called Quick Casual. For example, Panda Express

Physical Characteristics Of Cockroaches
Cockroaches are the oldest and most primitive winged insects. Most species are found in tropic area,
fewer species are found in temperate area. Majority of the species are no economic importance,
inhabiting the floor of tropical, caves, rain forests, deserts, etc (Lee Ng 2009).
2.1.2 Physical characteristics
Most cockroaches are light brown to black color to suit their cryptic, habitat and nocturnal behavior.
Cockroach body is typically oval and flattened dorsal ventrally. This type of shape allows it to squeeze
through as well as escape into narrow hole or cracks and spaces in litter, walls and rocks. Body parts
of cockroaches can be divided into three parts which are the head, thorax and abdomen. Head of
cockroaches bearing a pair of antennae, two compound eyes and a biting or chewing mouthparts. At
the thorax, three pairs of legs and two pairs of wings are attached. But, not all the cockroaches has

They have 3 stages in their life cycle: the egg, nymph and adult. New emerged adults usually mate
within 2 to 3 days. Sperm fluid of the male cockroach is able to fertilise all the eggs of female
cockroach. The eggs are normally produced after few days of mating. Eggs are laid by the female in
groups and are protected by a capsule like shell named ootheca. Number of eggs in the ootheca
varying with species, ranging from 12 to 48 eggs (Lee Ng 2009).
2.1.4 Types of cockroaches
There are more than 4000 species of cockroaches, only 4% are considered as pests (Cochran 2009).
The most common type of cockroaches found in residential area are the American cockroach
(Periplaneta americana) (Figure 1 2), German cockroach (Blattela germanica) (Figure 3) and Brown
banded cockroach (Supella longipalpa) (Figure 4). Figure 1 Photo view of male American

Analogy of Wynnere and Wastoure in the Middle of the 14th...
Every where in life there are opposite forces which cannot exist with out one another. These things,
whether opposing actions or opposing thoughts, often in the end cannot exist without one another. For
if in the end one prevailed, there would be an unbalance. You cannot have ying without yang or life
without death. In Wynnere and Wastoure there is a harmony between the two characters. While this
harmony may be unclear to both of the characters, it becomes evident after each volley of arguments
that there is no winner in this battle. Wynnere cannot exist without Wastoure.
Wynnere and Wastoure is a book steeped in the social problems of the time. The poem is dated from
1352 to 1353. The book was written around the end of the black plague ... Show more content on

Winner on the other hand fails to recognize that because of this he is able to take advantage of these
cheap properties and collect more wealth. This is a prime example of how Winner needs Waster.
Winner counters Wasters argument that his spending spreads the wealth by trying to point out that
Wasters wastefulness is source of the shortage which causes the poor to be poor.
Waster then tries to validate his extravagance by countering with his generosity. He tries to exonerate
his extravagance by giving the excess to the poor and providing work for the poor from the creation of
extravagant feasts and clothes. Winner counters by saying that no matter what excess is given to the
poor if the food and clothes were not extravagant, there would be much more to go around. Winner
provides a valid point by stating this, but as Winner says this he backs himself into a corner. If money
is saved it does nothing but enrich the friars and other merchants. It does not serve the poor any better
then extravagant spending. Here again the reader sees a striking similarity between the two extremes,
and it becomes even more evident that neither extreme is correct. The only correct solution can be
achieved through meeting in the middle of these two extremes. Neither Winner nor Waster is always
correct.
Up to this point both Winner and Waster have proved that neither of the two sides is absolutely
correct. Their

The Keirsey
The Keirsey Temperament Sorter is the most commonly used personality instrument in the world. The
Keirsey temperament is a tool that helps people better understand their personality. After taking quiz,
it was revealed that I most closely resemble the Guardian temperament. Guardians are observant and
cooperative. Seeking security and belonging, they are concerned with responsibility and duty.
Guardians have four types which is Supervisor, Inspector, provider and Protector. Guardian s greatest
strength is logistics. They excel at organizing, facilitating, checking, and supporting. This is so close
to my personality. I shared my temperament result with my three best friends. They were agreed with
the results. It is same as my ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is interesting to note some people figures described by the Keirsey guardian temperament. For
example, George Bush and Mother Teresa are guardian temperament. Mr. Bush is a guardian,
especially of the protector type. This is obvious in the action. He has taken to protect and defend the
U.S, almost to the point of isolationism. Moreover, his beliefs in conservative Christian values show
that he exhibits the guardian characteristic of

Tattoos and Criminal Behavior Essay
Introduction
The ancient practice of tattooing, once considered a trademark of social outcasts and criminals, has
steered back into mainstream culture at an alarming rate (Irwin 2001, Swan 2006). In western society,
tattoos are often associated with antisocial behaviour. In 1895, Cesare Lombroso concluded in his
study that the art of tattooing is most commonly found on the bodies of criminals (Putnins 2002). The
frequency of tattoo are predicted to be found at higher rates in criminal subcultures than in the general
public. According to the 2003 Harris poll, nearly 40 million Americans have at least one tattoo. The
practice is becoming more popular with teenagers.

Houghton et al. comprised the study of 464 high school students; equally divided by gender, from 5
separate schools in a large Australian city. All the students were given a questionnaire of 21 questions,
which ranged from location, number of tattoos, also age of acquisition and awareness of health risks.
Another study, which analyzed the relationship between increased offending risk and having tattoos,
was conducted in an Australian prison (Putnins 2002, Crofts, Thompson, Wales, Hernberger 1996). At
the time of the study 97% of adults were found to have tattoos. In addition, 73% of the tattooed group
was found to have been in juvenile detention centers. The average age of getting their first tattoo was
approximately 15 years old. The study concluded that the link between tattoos and offending was quite
evident even at an early age.
Arnett (1995) suggests that body modification, which include piercings and tattoos can be best
described by ones reckless impulsivity, and adolescents can be more likely to engage in delinquent
behaviour as they do not fully comprehend their actions. Atkinson (2003) argues although some
tattoos may have meaning behind it, others get tattoos simply because it is deviant by social standards.
Further more, research on adolescent tattooing supports

Using A Warrant Should Not Be Allowed Essay
Many cases have been brought to court and are continuing to be brought that say location tracking
without a warrant should not be allowed. The argument most often used is that it is a violation of the
right to privacy. A warrant is not the only way to obtain these records nor should it be. There are valid
reasons that data can be obtained through other methods. The issue is across many platforms of digital
communication but the most prominent and easiest to explain is with cell phones. The use of historical
location tracking data is not a violation of privacy, in fact there is no right to privacy as most
understand the term.
We are tracked almost constantly as participants of todays interconnected world. Every time we
connect to the internet whether it be using a desktop, laptop, tablet, or smart phone that connection
and the traffic passed is tracked. Even the infotainment systems in our cars such as the Onstar system
available in some General Motors vehicles is capable of tracking and in turn reporting out locations.
The IP address of the device used and the addresses connected to are tracked. If location services are
turned on as many applications require to function, then that is tracked as well. Companies collect this
information for many reasons with a major one being to sell targeted ads to us based on where we are
and what we normally do. This is something we agree to as part of the user agreements as often if it is
not agreed to the application will not work or at

My results fell into the LEED categories as follows, one under sustainable site (Cyclepods), one under
water efficiency (CISTA Rainwater Harvesting System), three under energy and atmosphere (Solar
Water Heater, Solar Water Bulb and Planting trees close to buildings), four under materials and
resources (ERO Robots, Bubble Deck Concrete System, Pitcher Filters and Pallet Furniture) and one
under indoor environmental quality (Houseplants). The main source of gathering information was
based on online research and personal knowledge from previous experiences. Some of the results
showed great benefits with minimal need of financial sources to install or maintain, others were more
technologically advanced, thus more expensive but served their purpose in an excellent manner in the
area of their field. In conclusion, the benefits of these results affect the personal health, the
environment and the economy. More awareness and dedication to these studies would increase the
efficiency of those products and their availability to the people.

The Movie The Wolf On Wall Street Essay
Daring to Defy Drug Abuse
If you have ever seen the movie The Wolf on Wall Street, there is no doubt you have seen the effects
drugs can have. Leonardo DiCaprio portrays a high strung stock broker reliant on a multitude of
illegal drugs to keep up with his hectic life style. His addiction gets so severe that at one point in the
movie, he is lying on the floor, unable to move due to the drugs effects on his body. Even though the
movie is set in the 90 s, a decade infamous for its use of drugs, today, drug usage and abuse has never
been more of an issue. According to Alice Park (2016), More people died of drug overdoses in 2014 in
the U.S. than in any other year (p.49). What people fail to realize is that drug abuse effects more than
just the individual that uses them. The loved ones trying to support the user, the community the user is
in, can all be affected by drug abuse. In fact, all members of society are affected by the abuse of drugs.
In short, no one benefits from drug abuse. In the words of the Nation Institute of Drug Abuse, Drug
abuse is a major public health problem that impacts society on multiple levels. Directly or indirectly,
every community is affected by drug abuse and addiction, as is every family. Drugs take a tremendous
toll on our society at many levels ( Magnitude, 2016).
Obviously, drugs abuse has the most effect on the individual. Drugs of any sort have pronounced
impacts on a user s personal life, mental and physical health as well as their

Waiting For Godot And Dr Strangelove Essay
Significant texts in any period arise from particular ways of thinking and possess an enduring
relevance. Following the dropping of the atomic bombs at the end of World War Two, global
consciousness began to slowly change due to the realisation that civilisation could be destroyed at the
press of a button. Texts that are able to grasp these changes, depicting their immediate context while
also reflecting on universal questions, possess enduring value. Waiting for Godot, the 1952 stage play
by Samuel Beckett, challenged the idea of human purpose and also questioned the relevance of
scripture and religious institutions. Similarly, Plath, in Ariel, a collection of poems posthumously
published in 1965, challenged the same ideas, especially ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The montage is accompanied by a non diegetic string arrangement of the song Try a Little Tenderness
. Kubrick specifically creates an overt sexual innuendo to make light of great fear. This foreshadows
the rest of the movie where frequent sexual themes and comedic tropes are utilised to undermine
previously unquestioned figures of authority. Beckett s opening also foreshadows the rest of the play,
as the setting begins the continual challenge of the institutional idea of human purpose, as it
accentuates the lack of meaning an idea also extended by the characters. When Estragon struggles to
take off his boot, he mutters Nothing to be done , which Vladimir mistakes for existential discourse
and replies with I m beginning to come around to that opinion. All my life I ve put it from me. Beckett
uses verbal irony to show how the most simple statement could be mistaken as a philosophical
pondering on existence, which in turn is designed to pose the question of whether individuals truly
have an essence. Similarly, Kubrick uses absurdist humour to force a questioning of what had been the
bedrock of the western world: the political sphere. President Muffley, himself named after pubic hair
wigs, attempts to avert atomic bombs being dropped on Russia and desperately calls the Chairman of
the USSR. However he proceeds to waste time commenting on the good phone connection,

Snows Of Kilimanjaro Analysis
Angelica Sawan Professor North October 23, 2017 SLD Packet 2 Summary: The Snows of
Kilimanjaro by Ernest Hemingway is a tale of a man named Harry and his Wife Helen who are on a
safari trip, and while on it Harry catches gangrene because he doesn t put ointment on a cut he
received from a thorn while taking a photo of a water buck. Throughout the story Harry is a Negative
Nancy, arguing with his wife and being blunt about how he is going to die before a rescue team can
get to them. For example, Harry and Helen argue about whether he should drink a whisky and soda,
whether she should read to him, and about how he is going to die. Harry thinks about his life
experiences a lot in this short story, about how he hasn t lived up to his potential as a writer because he
has a tendency to marry rich women. Harry also goes in and out of consciousness while remembering
his life adventures. His wife Helen does care for Harry and she does enjoy his writing, but she is
obviously concerned about his health and his self pity irritates her. Harry mentions that Helen is really
a good wife and does not keep him as a proud possession and how she doesn t neglect his true talent,
which is writing. We also find out that Helen is a widow who was bored of the lovers before Harry
and they married because of her enjoyment of his writing and how they have similar interests. At the
end of the story Helen wakes up because of a loud hyena call, she takes a flashlight and shines it on
Harry s bed which she moved into their tent earlier that night. She sees him under the mosquito net
with his leg hanging off of the cot and notices that Harry is dead. The hyena cries again but Helen can
t hear it over her heart breaking. Formal: Tender Buttons by Gertrude Stein is a collection of writings
about ordinary objects, and is divided into objects, food, and rooms. She uses random objects with
random adjectives, and she uses language to direct the mind and force the reader to connect nouns
with unsuspecting adjectives to make you look at the world in a new way. It s a pros poem, it s a
cubist poem. She tries to break apart logic. The theme is giving new meaning to ordinary objects, she
wants us to think, she uses a lot of literary devices.

Change At Green Mountain Resort
Change at Green Mountain Resort Green Mountain Resort was a hospitality organization which
underwent significant change after its original purpose vanished and the need to become more
independent became key to its success (Palmer, Dunford, Akin, 2009). Due to the demographics of the
county which Green Mountain Resort was located, the resort management faced a challenged
concerning human capital (Palmer, Dunford, Akin, 2009). The new owner and manager, Gunter,
identified human capital turnover as a problem, the hospitality industry claimed turnover as a chronic
problem, and a newly hire consultant brought up an entirely new perspective to the so called turnover
problem (Palmer, Dunford Akin, 2009). We ll first review Gunter s perspective and approach. Initially,
Gunter s image of change outcome was that of a controlling director. He identified a potential problem
area (turnover) and assumed through intended control, change could be achievable (Palmer, Dunford,
Akin, 2009). After further analysis, Gunter also identified limitations from outside factors, such as
available human capital resources making him somewhat of a navigator with only partially intended
outcome. As a director, Gunter intended to simply fix the turnover problem. As a navigator, he
recognized the outside factors. This led him to seek further analysis through further industry research
(Palmer, Dunford, Akin, 2009). Hospitality industry research indicated turnover was a chronic
problem

capitalism model is a huge mistake because it leads to inequality, support destroying the legacy and

Nowadays, when anyone visits Dubai it is like visiting an international country with many
nationalities but without natives. Because Dubai where built by others which have been taking all over

horribly so bad. Although, the late moving of the government to restore the heritage of Dubai the
culture and traditions of Dubai has been vanished already and reached Point of no return. And this has
too many negative things on the next generation. Also regarding the disappearing of the traditions and
the original culture Dubai heritage has been abandoned and natives now are forced to adapt with the
residents culture because the residents are the majority now. Also, all the natives are moving out from
their own town because Dubai has become a center for prostitution even though, the prostitution are

Dubai now is no longer owned by United Arab of Emiratis, it is owned by rich people and they taking

Comparing The Barbie Doll And The Chimney Sweeper
At first glance, the poems The Chimney Sweeper by William Blake, and Barbie Doll, by Marge Piercy
appear to have no tangible similarities. However, upon further analysis and interpretation, they are
somewhat akin. Particularly, the harsh treatment of the children, their self image, and the use of
imagery in the poems are comparable. Some of the differences between the two poems include the
time period in which they were written, the upbringing of the characters, and also the characters
reactions and solutions to the problems that they faced. Although the setting and characters of the
poems Barbie Doll and The Chimney Sweeper are easy to contrast, the deeper meanings of the two are
tantamount. One of the chief reasons that these poems ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thus, it is vital to show the differences between the childhoods of the characters from The Chimney
Sweeper and Barbie Doll. The child from the Barbie Doll has a cookie cutter childhood. The girl was
born as usual / and presented dolls that did pee pee / and miniature GE stoves and irons / and wee
lipsticks the color of cherry candy (Piercy 1 4). Her background, unfortunately, did not protect her
against all of the dangers in the world. However, it could be assumed that if she did not have such a
fortunate childhood, she might have appreciated everything she had, instead of looking on the bad side
of things. On the other end, the boy from The Chimney Sweeper had a traumatic childhood. The only
thing the child can remember is that when [his] mother died [he] was very young, / and [that his]
father sold him while yet [his] tongue / could scarcely cry (Blake 1 3). This boy s difficult childhood
has a tremendous impact on his outlook on life, as he grows up to appreciate the things he has, and

Immigrate To Canada
Top Reasons to Immigrate to Canada
Canada has a multicultural society and relies heavily on immigration. The aging population of Canada
makes it imminent for them to open up their gates for immigrants from other countries. According to a
research, it was found that Canadians above the age of 65 years comprise 16.1% of Canada s total
population and compared to this the population of under 15s is considerably low. This has created a
void that must be filled with the help of immigration.
Major problems pertaining to aging population are:
● Huge burden on the economy
● Less workers in the workforce
● More expenditure on pension and healthcare
● More taxes for the current workforce

The country also provides a right to education to its Citizens and permanent residents. Thousands of
international students migrate every year to continue their edification in one of the top notch institutes
in Canada, This means that you are not the only one who is thinking of migrating to Canada for
education.
Travel
Canada is also a great travel destination and can provide a great bang for every buck you put into your
travel. The iconic Niagara Falls is one of the most alluring sites to witness. Canada has spots for
people travelling in solitude or in a group.
Vancouver houses the hockey team vancouver canucks and is filled with places that can provide you
an exotic wining and dining experience. The SkyTrain enables travellers to to soak in the majestic
view of Canadian cities from quite a height. Some urban cities even have a bucolic setting due to the
type of architecture. There are other great spots that you can visit like Quebec, Granville islands and
so on.
Ease of Immigration
Just to reiterate my point, Canada needs immigrants and that is why the immigration process focuses
on young and skilled workers. This is quite apposite as skilled workers will be able to contribute a lot
to the economy of Canada. Canada does not just make it easy for you to migrate but for your family as

Women In Dracula
There are a couple different female leads that are in Dracula. There is Lucy, Mina and Dracula s three
female vampires that live in the castle. Most Victorian women were not perceived as sexual beings
they were pure and innocent waiting for men to marry them and were not put into the spot light. Bram
Stoker associates vampirism and sexuality in the early parts of the book when the three females visit
Jonathan. Jonathan describes the encounter as, The girl went on her knees, and bent over me, simply
gloating. There was a deliberate voluptuousness, which was both thrilling and repulsive, and as she
arched her neck, she actually licked her lips like an animal (Stoker, 1897) this quote being highly
sexual in nature. The female vampires come across as vixens due to the nature of how vampires feed.

Lucy was introduced having many suitors and being very beautiful, but unlike women of her time she
was very sexualized, even more so when Dracula turned Lucy into one of the undead. She is described
as having a ravenous sexual appetite that was dangerous to men and their self control. Mina was an
ideal Victorian woman, One of God s women, (Stoker, 1897) as described by Van Helsing. And
remained that way through out the novel even thought there was suspense created that Mina who
empathizes with the progressive new women of England would suffer the same fate as Lucy. When
Stoker wrote Lucy s demise it had a dominance undertone to it. We recognized the features of Lucy
Westenra. Lucy Westenra, but yet how changed. The sweetness was turned to adamantine, heartless
cruelty, and the purity to voluptuous wantonness. (Stoker, 1897) in essence these men were not able to
control Lucy therefore she needed to be killed. When she was destroyed stoker focused on her
harmless state and the purity of her face, which assures men that women are exactly how the should

Understanding the Similarities to Strain Theory and...
Understanding the similarities of Strain Theory, amp; General Theory of Crime Angela Sampson #
2396467 Sociology 345: Social Control Professor: James Chriss Cleveland State University April 30th
2012 Abstract: The purpose is to identify the similarities between Strain theories, and General Theory
of Crime. Strain was developed from the work of Durkheim and Merton and taken from the theory of
anomie. Durkheim focused on the decrease of societal restraint and the strain that resulted at the
individual level, and Merton studied the cultural imbalance that exists between goal and the norms of
the individuals of society. General Theory of Crime , In 1990 Michael R. Gottfredson and Travis
Hirschi wrote the book A General ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In essence, general strain theory proposed that an increase in strain would lead to an increase in anger,
which may then lead to an increase in crime (Agnew, 1992:61). These previously mentioned goals
turn into strain when the individual is faced with certain disjunctions in their life. The first of these
disjunctions is the one that is the focus of previous strain theories, the disjunction between aspirations
and expectations. This is founded on the principle of culturally bound goals and values that are
accepted by everyone but yet not available to everyone. This idea of the American Dream then causes
strain and frustration in the individual who cannot achieve this dream through legitimate means. This
theory has been criticized because it does not explain middle class crime, it only focuses monetary
goals, social class is the only barrier that is considered, and it does not specify why some turn to
deviance. The loss of positively valued stimuli Agnew s research in the stress literature led him to the
discovery that the removal of positive stimuli can also cause strain. This loss could manifest itself in
the form of a death or a broken relationship with a friend or romantic partner, or it could be a result of
the theft of a valued object. According to Agnew, the strain that is felt by the individual die to the loss
could lead the individual to delinquency as the individual attempts to prevent its loss,

Political Ideology Paper Many people have different opinions on political subjects. The ways a person
may feel about these subjects determine what they are in the political world. I personally do not follow
politics like other people older than me do, but I do consider myself to be a moderate democrat. Both
of my parents are democrats, and they choose to be of this political spectrum because they feel like the
Democratic Party represents them. They feel as they stand for policies that will better them as people.

7 of these states have laws that effectively require the woman make two separate trips to the clinic to
obtain the procedure. Parents should be involved in such a decision like this so 36 states require some
type of parental involvement in a minor s decision to have an abortion. 22 states require one or both
parents to consent to the procedure, while 12 require that one or both parents be notified and 4 states
require both parental consent and notification. Many people believe that restrictive abortion laws may
worsen family communication rather than promote it. Abortion providers encourage teenagers to tell a
parent or another important family member about their plans, and most teens do. Even without state
laws, one or both parents of 61% of minors know about their daughters abortions. The younger the
teen, the higher the likelihood that she has told her mother about the situation. Those young women
who do not or cannot tell their parents, however, often have important reasons such as a family history
of alcoholism, emotional or physical abuse, or incest. To involve such parents could invite further
abuse of the teenager and other family members. Rather than tell their parents for whatever reason
some teenagers resort to unsafe, illegal abortions or try to perform the abortion themselves. In doing
so, they risk serious injury and death or, in some cases, criminal charges. Another concern is that
restrictive laws endanger teens health by

Livoria Sandwiches Inc. provides exceptional quality sandwiches at a great price. Livoria has been
able to maintain profitability since inception and has continued to grow its business and revenues.
Recent unforeseen external events have caused significant cash flow issues and shook the family
business. Livoria is hoping to see annual net income of $1.1 million by 2015. This report will provide

Reason is, the current demand forecast could be different with price increase. The risk is too high and
doesn t create growth.
Recommendation
The best option for Livoria at this time is to expand its menu into the vegetarian options. Not only is
this the best way to prepare for the future but it will also meet all of the preferences of the
stakeholders while aligning with the corporate objectives, mission and vision of the company. The
$1.1 million goal will also be met by the end of 2013. No constraints will be broken.
Implementation
In order for Livoria to be successful in implementing the menu expansion, it must first contact its
suppliers and ensure they can meet the change and increase in veggie demand. Next training and
logistics must be arranged in house to adapt to the change in menu options. Quality must be
maintained and no short cuts can be made. With the financial analysis provided in Exhibit 4

The World of Technology Meets the World of Education Essay
Good bye blackboard, hello interactive white board! Get out of the way paper, pens, pencils, and

the world of education needs to embrace the world of technology and take off on the World Wide Web.
Technology is not going away. Our students of today must be technosavvy in order to function in their

he tested on the book he showed that this method was successful for him because he scored a 100 on

readers and allow them to experience some success then they maybe more inclined to branch out on
their own to become independent readers. Textbooks are only as up to date as the day they leave the
printer. Think of the millions of dollars that could be saved on textbooks if students were issued
laptops and textbooks were converted to ebooks. As ebooks, the text could be updated daily and
students could have access to up to date information at their fingertips at all times, instead of the
traditional textbooks that are now in schools which can be as old as 5 7 years old.
In order for the implementation of technology to be effective in our school, a great deal of planning
must take place. For core curriculum planning to successfully embrace technology, writers need to be
made aware to tech issues such as: If the computers are networked to file storage drives, printers, and
the Internet; If accounts/passwords need to be established; How scheduling of lab time and equipment
is handled; If support help is available; What type of software applications or websites are available or

My Best Friend Essay
I was always scared. My heart would pound and I never prepared for the worse, yet it always came to
that. I was only a little girl, and I didn t deserve this at all, but I still let her walk all over me.
Everytime she said or did something that hurt me, I tried even harder to impress her with different and
exciting ways, instead of standing up for myself. This was my life around my best friend, until
recently. I m getting ahead of myself, so let me rewind a little bit. Around age three I met this amazing
girl. She was someone who I instantly became best friends with. Someone who I didn t have to try
around because we didn t judge each other. Let s call this girl Erica. Erica and I never separated for
anything. We would hang out everyday after school and even danced together at the same studio. I
thought she was someone who would stick with me forever growing up, but unfortunately I was
wrong. First of all, Erica and I grew up together and hung out ninety percent of the time. I was so
attached to this girl, that I couldn t see the true person she really was. And I didn t realize till now that
I didn t even love hanging out with her, I loved the fact that I had such a cool and popular best friend.
I was mostly unhappy hanging out with Erica, and I never knew what kind of mood she would be in.
Unfortunately, she would almost brainwash me into thinking that I needed her, no matter what she did
to me. After a while, I believed her and set aside my feelings to help with hers.

U.s. Foreign Policy Towards Belarus

Re: Recommended U.S. foreign policy towards Belarus

Oppression in Belarus
Breaking Free from Russia Belarus has the veil of a political stranglehold cast over it by the looming
and neighboring Russia. Freedoms are non existent, a tyrant maintains control over the country, and
democracy is nowhere in sight. I have a few recommendations on how U.S. foreign policy towards
Belarus can help fix many of these issues, and help direct the country towards Democracy. First, I will
highlight some history on the so called Republic of Belarus to help put some context on the situation.
Belarus became one of the first members of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This led to elections in the early 1990 s, and Belarus declared itself independent in July 27th, 1990,
and wrote a Declaration of State Sovereignty. The newly formed republic became primarily
communist, mainly because of all the Russian integration that had already occurred. In 1994, The
Republic of Belarus elected Alexander Lukashenko as the President of Belarus. He was officially
reelected in 2001, 2006 and 2010. However, the United States (as well as other western Nations) does
not recognize the results of the 2010 elections under which the Central Election Commission of
Belarus declared Lukashenko president. This is because Western countries decried the election as a
farce and an egregious affront to democracy and human rights. Many of Lukashenko s opposition
leaders had mysterious disappearances. The United States and the European Union called for the
release of all imprisoned former candidates, but took no further action except a travel ban on
Lukashenko. By contrast, countries such as Syria, Russia, and China congratulated the re elected
incumbent. This is just a sample of the Dictatorship that is veiled as a Republic in Belarus.
Transitioning into Democracy
For a nation to truly be free, certain rights have to be available to the people. Freedom of speech,
press, peaceful assembly, and religion are just a few of these things.

Neuroscience Background
Neuroscience Background
Lifelong bilingualism has been associated with enhanced cognition. Scientists suggest that the
bilingual experience is closely related to neurological variations observed in brain anatomy and
function of bilinguals versus monolinguals. For instance, research conducted by Olsen et al. (2015)
investigated the structural brain differences of lifelong bilingualism. Given the importance of the
frontal and temporal lobes in executive and language functions, they hypothesized that bilinguals
would exhibit greater volume of these cortical areas. The researchers discovered that bilinguals had
more white matter in frontal lobe regions, which emphasizes the importance of preserved white matter
in executive function. Following immersion in a second language, young adults also demonstrated
increases in grey matter in the inferior frontal gyrus and anterior temporal lobe (Stein et al., 2012).

ABSTRACT
The Miranda warning is a landmark case, the Supreme Court decided five to four majority in the case

Abstract
For patients that have indwelling catheters, with the evidence based practice and standards of care,
UTI s does still continue to be an ongoing problem today. In one of the large hospitals in my area had
recently developed a poster and video approach with special focus on alternatives to urinary
catheterization, removing catheters early, and the reinforcement of sterile technique prior insertion and
foley catheter care were used to educate nursing staff and improve outcomes. The purpose of this
paper is to educate nursing on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The lower income communities are probably more affected. The cost of a single episode to treat UTI s
ranges from $980 $2900, depending on the presence of the bacteremia (Saint, 2000).
Differences in care based on evidence Sterile technique is required for insertion of an indwelling
urinary catheter in the hospital setting, but clean technique can be used for intermittent catheterization
in non acute settings. By itself, sterile technique on insertion doesn t prevent UTI s. Prevention of UTI
s depends on knowledge of causes, proper care techniques, and early catheter removal. Nurses are
taught early on in school that sterile technique helps to reduce infections. It was drilled in our heads
the entire time and now to have the evidence tell us that early catheter removal, along with proper
technique good hand hygiene is the key to reduce UTI s.
Summary
UTI s is an all too common problem that causes unnecessary distress to patients and delays their
recovery during their hospital stay. All healthcare professionals should adhere to these good practice
points that could reduce the risk of UTI s and assure staff that they are demonstrating best practice in
their care.

Steel and Tariffs Essay
Steel and Tariffs
We have all heard this joke. Only now the horse has been replaced with consumers of steel in the US
steel industry. Why? Many companies in our economy that use steel as an input to produce their goods
are staggering due to recent extraordinarily high steel prices. President Bush dropped a tariff on
imported steel on Thursday March 4th; according to basic economics, this cancellation of the steel
import tariff should have dropped the price for US domestic consumers. Unfortunately though, that
hasn t happened. Steel prices are currently at record highs and many forecast even higher prices to
come. This puts huge pressure on small businesses that are dependent on steel for their well being.
With higher prices ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On one side protection for the employees of domestic steel producers sounds good. After all shouldn t
we support our fellow Americans and their employment needs? Indeed we should, but it is hard to
determine which costs the American public more jobs, the tariff or the lack there of. Plus, which jobs
are to be determined the most important, those of the steel workers, or those of the down stream users
of steel? It may be in America s best interest to protect our small business owners and ourselves as the
increased price from the tariff will most definitely be passed on to us, the consumer.
The Argument for Tariffs
Although tariffs usually cause domestic prices to increase they can have a positive effect on our
economy and specifically our domestic producers of steel and their employees. The US trade policy
has historically been protectionist in nature, and congress, the principle body of power for import
policy, heavily favored domestic firms over their foreign competitors (Irwin 146). As a result,
domestic steel producers have had tariffs and quotas in place for many years. An effective tariff raises
revenue for our US government and can help to subsidize domestic production at the expense of
foreign producers. This is good because the American government receives money from foreign
exporters that it would not have otherwise had access to. This money can then be used in domestic
government policies and could

Guatemala And United States Government Systems Essay
Guatemala and United States Government Systems Government is the authority that addresses, control
and administers the institutions of a community. Every country has ruled by a governance structure.
There are different kinds of government. This comparison is about the United States and Guatemala s
forms of government.
United States system has its foundation on an agreement between the people and the government to
ensure that individual liberties continue to prosper under a free society. The Declaration of
Independence lists three important rights that the Founding Fathers considered natural and
unalienable. They are the right to life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness. Government exists to protect
these rights. On other hand, the purpose of Guatemala s government, according to the Guatemala s
Constitution, is to promote the common welfare, the consolidation of the regime of legality, security,
equality, justice, liberty and peace. Both countries have its foundation on democracy; nevertheless,
there are specific characteristics that mark a difference between them.
First, United States Constitution establishes a system of government named representative democracy
. In a representative democracy or indirect democracy, the power to govern comes from the people,
who have the highest power. The government works for the people and protects their rights; this is

1800s. Horace Mann was born on May 4, 1796 in Franklin, Massachusetts to his parents, Thomas
Mann and Rebecca Stanley Mann. Growing up in poverty, Horace Mann learned to be self reliant
from an early age. Although Horace, himself, did not have a proper education from the ages of 10 to
20, he self studied at his local library. At the age of 20, Mann enrolled himself into Brown University
and graduated as the top of his class in 1819. During 1822 23, he studied law at Litchfield Law
School. In 1827, Mann was elected to the Massachusetts legislature and served until 1833. In 1835,
Mann was elected to the Massachusetts State Senate and was its president from 1836 to 1837. In 1837,
Horace Mann was appointed as secretary of the Board ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He stated his six main principles addressing the problems of the public schooling system. His first
statement was that the public should not remain ignorant for long. The second statement was that the
public should take interest in paying for and maintaining education. The third statement was that the
best education can be provided in schools that welcome children from different social classes,
religions, and ethnic backgrounds. The fourth statement was that education should be free from
sectarian influence. The fifth statement was that tenets of a free society should prevail while
separating from education. Finally, the last statement is that education should be provided by well
trained, professional teachers. Many of social and political groups did not agree with Mann s beliefs.
Priests were angered by Mann s belief that religion should not be part of the classroom, and politicians
hesitated at the overreach of authority in the local school

Overview:
In India, as per the ancient and historical culture, tradition, customs and practices, marriages are
considered to be made in heaven and celebrated on earth. Marriage is a sacred or contractual
relationship in India. Marriages are treated as highest form of social relationship. As to its legal

Those typical responsibilities of a married couple does not thrust on the individuals living together in
this kind of relationships. The basic foundation of live in relationship itself is individual freedom.
Unfortunately, no specific law has been recognized to deal with a live in relationship in India. No
legislation has been formulated to define the rights and obligations of the parties in the relationships
and the status of children born to such couples when it is proved as bigamy of male in the relationship.
A live in relationship is not recognized by Hindu Marriage Act, 1955 or any other current statute.
Therefore this particular law does not discussion about either parties or the children born to them. The
Courts have taken the view that where a man and a woman live together as husband and wife for a
long term, the law will presume that they were legally married unless proved contrary. The Protection
of Women from Domestic Violence Act 2005 provides for the protection, maintenance and right of

Changing Picture of the Look of a Family
Introduction In the past there was a clear picture of what a family would typically look like. In today s
world it doesn t have to consist of a mother, a father and their biological children living together under
one roof. It can consist of just a grandfather and his grandson, because they are still considered family.
Throughout years families can create and indoctrinate new members. The power of the family is such
that despite the possible separation of members by vast distances, sometimes even death, the family s
influence remains (Goldenberg Goldenberg, p. 2, 2012). Even when a family member experiences a
temporary or permanent sense of alienation from the family, he or she can never truly relinquish
family membership (Goldenberg Goldenberg, p. 2, 2012). The family life cycle continuously evolves
throughout the years. Families continue to remain the foundation of most people s lives. They can
provide the security, support, and intimacy people need (Kirst Ashman Hull, p.329, 2012). Within
families there should always be structure. Family structure refers to the organization of relationships
and patterns of interaction occurring within the family. In addition, family structure will vary
dramatically depending from one family to another (Kirst Ashman Hull, p.334, 2012). As social
workers, we can work on a micro, mezzo and or macro level. We can encounter individual clients who
may initially have individual problems. However, we may have to go from a

The Key Variables Of The Study Of Student Competency...
Procedure The key variables of the study, student competency proficiency, were based on ten core
competencies of EPAS (CSWE, 2012). Total 19 competencies were included in the survey, using a six
point Likert scale. Students were required to rate their competency proficiency on the scale from 1
(very little know) to 6 (substantial amount know) on Survey Monkey. Three assessments used a
uniform survey for three different times. Prior to the course, each student was required to complete the
first assessment. At the end of the course, students were invited to complete two assessments, the post
test and the retrospect test, which asked students to look back to the beginning of the course. Students
were explained that their participation in the assessments were voluntary, which focuses on helping
them assess their competencies from different time perspectives, as well as helping instructors
improve the course. The leading instructor and the teaching assistant, who conducted the study,
complied the rules of human subject protection approved by the University of South Carolina
Institutional Review Board. All data were transformed from Survey Monkey platform to SPSS files.
The teaching assistant cleaned the data sets, matched the data of pre test, post test, and retrospect test
using student IDs, and merged eligible data from six data sets of six classes into one data set. Totally
48 matched observations were used to analyze using paired t test. Paired t test were used to examine

Ellen G White Themes
The beginning of the book already presents the problem that every man would like to have a clear and
precise answer. The most important question that man has ever asked and that it must necessarily
make a day or another in his life, is what made the jailer of Philippi was Paul and Silas: Sirs, what
must it I do to be saved? Acts 16:30.
This is a question to which Ellen G white sister was proposed to respond to through the pages of this
book. In terms of presentation, we can argue that Towards Jesus is a book of 13 chapters and 184

Berry Strauss s The Trojan War a New History Book Review
Barry Strauss, professor of classics at Cornell University attempts to redefine a one of history s
biggest love affairs, the Trojan War. Strauss explains how certain events and characters from Homers
The Odyssey might have actually existed, but also uses modern discoveries from the Bronze Age to
compare Homers account to those of Egypt, the Middle East, and etc. While Homer s epic should not
be read as a historical document which recounts the Trojan War hundred percent accurately, it can still
be seen as document which embodies some historical truth. The novel as a whole explains the
customs, economic standing, fighting styles and beliefs of the Greeks. Strauss s writing style allows
for the book to be accessible to both students and historians. He argues that just like Franz Ferdinand
was the spark which ignited World War 1, Helen on the other hand was just a spark which escalated an
existing tension between the Greeks and Trojans. Strauss s personal input on the war itself gives the
novel a different outlook on the Trojan War because, it allows for readers to see beyond the facts and
make connections with ideas that Strauss had made with recent discoveries and Homers epic. Strauss
sectionalizes the book in 11 chapters, excluding the introduction and conclusion, and in each chapter
he covers a different aspect of the

Looking for Someone to Love
Love is a basic human need that everyone encounters at least once, if not more, in his or her lifetime.
There are different means to look for a future lover, whether it is through the Internet, or meeting
someone coincidentally at a restaurant. Then there is also the idea of writing a personal ad in
newspapers describing exactly what you seek for in a relationship. In Wendy Cope s villanelle Lonely
Hearts, there are individuals who have written ads describing themselves, as well as what they want in
the other person. In Cope s poem there is the use of tone, repetition, and rhyme that work together in
order to illustrate the lonesome and desperate people who rely on newspaper ads to find love. The ...

The speaker feels sadness and wants to find friendship in someone who is below the age of twenty one
and does not smoke, but in adding the rhyme, the speaker s gloominess is accentuated. Please write
(with photo) to Box 152/Who knows where it may lead once we ve begun?/Can someone make my
simple wish come true? (16 18) displays the speaker s longing for a human bond. This desire to find a
relationship is so immense that the speaker has even asked for a picture of the reader of the ad to be
sent to them. The number 152 rhymes with the word true. In doing this, the reader s attention is drawn
to the words being said because rhymes attract readers to continue reading. These last few lines of the
poem give hope to being able to find someone to love through a personal ad. In conclusion, Wendy
Cope s villanelle has an obvious intent in demonstrating how the speakers in the poem are distressed
in finding a companion, that they have gone as low as having to write a personal ad in a newspaper.
Without love, there is loneliness and sadness, and in the poem, the different speakers show how
gloomy they are without a significant other. Through the use of tone, repetition, and rhyme scheme,
Wendy Cope reveals her argument that the speakers find themselves lost and isolated because they do
not have any relationship with another human being,

Baudelaire s Flowers Of Evil
Flowers of Evil provides examples of not only hopes and dreams, but the beauty from the evil.
Baudelaire s attempts to show the reader that beauty can grow on its own. He would use women as his
main source of symbolism serving as the middle between the ideal and the spleen. The spleen
represents everything that is wrong with the world like death, murder and disease. While the ideal
represents a perfection where love is united with ecstasy. They embodied what he called the elevation
towards God and the steady descent toward Satan. Baudelaire connects women to nature as a result
denying them a positive role in his imaginative vision, this is where adequate misogyny can be seen.
The first section of the poem is dedicated solely to the ideal as

  • 2. Homeland Security And The Security Differences The idea of securing the nation s borders and securing the safety of the citizens has been a major topic since the beginning of the nation s existence. There have always been means and procedures for it but it was never defined to the point it is today. The Homeland Security Department is a fairly new program which is constantly improving and adjusting in accordance to the threats that may arise. In the attempt to secure the United States, homeland security has become paramount and a lot of emphasis is being provided so as to ensure the safety of the borders and the citizens of the United States. So one must ponder what the difference between homeland security and homeland defense are since they both tend to mean the same ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Later, the federal, state, and local government responses to disasters such as Hurricane Katrina expanded the concept of homeland security to include significant disasters, major public health emergencies, and other events that threaten the United States, its economy, the rule of law, and government operations (2). Homeland security is the combination of law enforcement, immigration, disaster relief, and terrorist activities within the United States borders. This would be based on the local agencies and civilian departments to safeguard the people from any threat within while being assisted by the government. In some aspects of terror attacks, there will be a combination of both homeland security and homeland defense. 9/11 is the perfect example as homeland security was responding to the local disasters and threats while the homeland defense, military, was deploying to get to the root of the threats. This is essential to the way homeland security operates because this will stop the attack on the nation s soil before it reaches the borders and local government agencies are required. The biggest issue with the homeland security aspect is that the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Nature of Humans in Lord of the Flies by William Golding The nature of human: are humans born good or evil? These two opposing views on human nature are two topics that Rousseau and Golding have both touched upon. While Golding believes that humans are born inherently evil, Rousseau believes the opposite: that humans are inherently good. Golding wrote the novel Lord of the Flies as a response of the novel, The Coral Island by R.M. Ballantyne because he believed that it was far fetched. In this novel Ballantyne s main characters are able to enjoy their time on the deserted island. My opinion on this matter leans to Rousseau s side. I believe that people are born naturally good. Jean Jacques Rousseau was born in Geneva in 1712 and died in 1778 in France. While Golding lived through the two World Wars, Rousseau never lived through such conflict. A topic of Rousseau s that always came up is about how humans can keep their freedom despite their dependence on one another. He believed that there were two things that had something to do with this topic and that was a human s material and psychological need and that the latter was more important. Rousseau believed that humans get their sense of self due to opinion of others. Rousseau believes that humans are inherently born good and that and that it is society s corruption that causes humans to be evil. William Golding was born in 1911 in Cornwall, England and died in 1993. William Golding was born only three years before the start of World War I. Golding lived through both World Wars ... The restaurant and foodservice industry was highly fragmented, and even industry giant McDonald s generated just 2% of total revenues. Multi unit concepts were generally categorized into three industry segments: Specialty Establishments like Starbucks, Dunkin Donuts, and Baskin Robbins primarily served snacks and beverages under $5. Quick Service Restaurants, or so called fast food concepts like McDonald s, Taco Bell, and Wendy s, provided counter or drive through service with average tickets between $4 and $10. Casual Dining included brands like Olive Garden, Applebee s, and Outback, and offered table service for dinner entrees priced between $8 and $20. These things, whether opposing actions or opposing thoughts, often in the end cannot exist without one another. For if in the end one prevailed, there would be an unbalance. You cannot have ying without yang or life without death. In Wynnere and Wastoure there is a harmony between the two characters. While this harmony may be unclear to both of the characters, it becomes evident after each volley of arguments that there is no winner in this battle. Wynnere cannot exist without Wastoure. This is a prime example of how Winner needs Waster. Winner counters Wasters argument that his spending spreads the wealth by trying to point out that Wasters wastefulness is source of the shortage which causes the poor to be poor. Waster then tries to validate his extravagance by countering with his generosity. He tries to exonerate his extravagance by giving the excess to the poor and providing work for the poor from the creation of extravagant feasts and clothes. Winner counters by saying that no matter what excess is given to the poor if the food and clothes were not extravagant, there would be much more to go around. Winner provides a valid point by stating this, but as Winner says this he backs himself into a corner. If money is saved it does nothing but enrich the friars and other merchants. It does not serve the poor any better then extravagant spending. Here again the reader sees a striking similarity between the two extremes, and it becomes even more evident that neither extreme is correct. The only correct solution can be achieved through meeting in the middle of these two extremes. Neither Winner nor Waster is always correct. • 9. Tattoos and Criminal Behavior Essay Introduction The ancient practice of tattooing, once considered a trademark of social outcasts and criminals, has steered back into mainstream culture at an alarming rate (Irwin 2001, Swan 2006). In western society, tattoos are often associated with antisocial behaviour. In 1895, Cesare Lombroso concluded in his study that the art of tattooing is most commonly found on the bodies of criminals (Putnins 2002). The frequency of tattoo are predicted to be found at higher rates in criminal subcultures than in the general public. Another study, which analyzed the relationship between increased offending risk and having tattoos, was conducted in an Australian prison (Putnins 2002, Crofts, Thompson, Wales, Hernberger 1996). At the time of the study 97% of adults were found to have tattoos. In addition, 73% of the tattooed group was found to have been in juvenile detention centers. The average age of getting their first tattoo was approximately 15 years old. The study concluded that the link between tattoos and offending was quite evident even at an early age. Arnett (1995) suggests that body modification, which include piercings and tattoos can be best described by ones reckless impulsivity, and adolescents can be more likely to engage in delinquent behaviour as they do not fully comprehend their actions. Atkinson (2003) argues although some tattoos may have meaning behind it, others get tattoos simply because it is deviant by social standards. • 10. Using A Warrant Should Not Be Allowed Essay Many cases have been brought to court and are continuing to be brought that say location tracking without a warrant should not be allowed. The argument most often used is that it is a violation of the right to privacy. A warrant is not the only way to obtain these records nor should it be. There are valid reasons that data can be obtained through other methods. The issue is across many platforms of digital communication but the most prominent and easiest to explain is with cell phones. The use of historical location tracking data is not a violation of privacy, in fact there is no right to privacy as most understand the term. We are tracked almost constantly as participants of todays interconnected world. Every time we connect to the internet whether it be using a desktop, laptop, tablet, or smart phone that connection and the traffic passed is tracked. Even the infotainment systems in our cars such as the Onstar system available in some General Motors vehicles is capable of tracking and in turn reporting out locations. The IP address of the device used and the addresses connected to are tracked. If location services are turned on as many applications require to function, then that is tracked as well. Companies collect this information for many reasons with a major one being to sell targeted ads to us based on where we are and what we normally do. This is something we agree to as part of the user agreements as often if it is not agreed to the application will not work or at ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Leonardo DiCaprio portrays a high strung stock broker reliant on a multitude of illegal drugs to keep up with his hectic life style. His addiction gets so severe that at one point in the movie, he is lying on the floor, unable to move due to the drugs effects on his body. Even though the movie is set in the 90 s, a decade infamous for its use of drugs, today, drug usage and abuse has never been more of an issue. According to Alice Park (2016), More people died of drug overdoses in 2014 in the U.S. than in any other year (p.49). What people fail to realize is that drug abuse effects more than just the individual that uses them. The loved ones trying to support the user, the community the user is in, can all be affected by drug abuse. In fact, all members of society are affected by the abuse of drugs. In short, no one benefits from drug abuse. In the words of the Nation Institute of Drug Abuse, Drug abuse is a major public health problem that impacts society on multiple levels. Directly or indirectly, every community is affected by drug abuse and addiction, as is every family. Drugs take a tremendous toll on our society at many levels ( Magnitude, 2016). • 14. Waiting For Godot And Dr Strangelove Essay Significant texts in any period arise from particular ways of thinking and possess an enduring relevance. Following the dropping of the atomic bombs at the end of World War Two, global consciousness began to slowly change due to the realisation that civilisation could be destroyed at the press of a button. Texts that are able to grasp these changes, depicting their immediate context while also reflecting on universal questions, possess enduring value. Waiting for Godot, the 1952 stage play by Samuel Beckett, challenged the idea of human purpose and also questioned the relevance of scripture and religious institutions. Similarly, Plath, in Ariel, a collection of poems posthumously published in 1965, challenged the same ideas, especially ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The montage is accompanied by a non diegetic string arrangement of the song Try a Little Tenderness . Kubrick specifically creates an overt sexual innuendo to make light of great fear. This foreshadows the rest of the movie where frequent sexual themes and comedic tropes are utilised to undermine previously unquestioned figures of authority. Beckett s opening also foreshadows the rest of the play, as the setting begins the continual challenge of the institutional idea of human purpose, as it accentuates the lack of meaning an idea also extended by the characters. When Estragon struggles to take off his boot, he mutters Nothing to be done , which Vladimir mistakes for existential discourse and replies with I m beginning to come around to that opinion. All my life I ve put it from me. Beckett uses verbal irony to show how the most simple statement could be mistaken as a philosophical pondering on existence, which in turn is designed to pose the question of whether individuals truly have an essence. Similarly, Kubrick uses absurdist humour to force a questioning of what had been the bedrock of the western world: the political sphere. • 15. Snows Of Kilimanjaro Analysis Angelica Sawan Professor North October 23, 2017 SLD Packet 2 Summary: The Snows of Kilimanjaro by Ernest Hemingway is a tale of a man named Harry and his Wife Helen who are on a safari trip, and while on it Harry catches gangrene because he doesn t put ointment on a cut he received from a thorn while taking a photo of a water buck. Throughout the story Harry is a Negative Nancy, arguing with his wife and being blunt about how he is going to die before a rescue team can get to them. For example, Harry and Helen argue about whether he should drink a whisky and soda, whether she should read to him, and about how he is going to die. Harry thinks about his life experiences a lot in this short story, about how he hasn t lived up to his potential as a writer because he has a tendency to marry rich women. Harry also goes in and out of consciousness while remembering his life adventures. His wife Helen does care for Harry and she does enjoy his writing, but she is obviously concerned about his health and his self pity irritates her. Harry mentions that Helen is really a good wife and does not keep him as a proud possession and how she doesn t neglect his true talent, which is writing. We also find out that Helen is a widow who was bored of the lovers before Harry and they married because of her enjoyment of his writing and how they have similar interests. At the end of the story Helen wakes up because of a loud hyena call, she takes a flashlight and shines it on Harry s bed which she moved into their tent earlier that night. She sees him under the mosquito net with his leg hanging off of the cot and notices that Harry is dead. The hyena cries again but Helen can t hear it over her heart breaking. Formal: Tender Buttons by Gertrude Stein is a collection of writings about ordinary objects, and is divided into objects, food, and rooms. She uses random objects with random adjectives, and she uses language to direct the mind and force the reader to connect nouns with unsuspecting adjectives to make you look at the world in a new way. It s a pros poem, it s a cubist poem. She tries to break apart logic. The theme is giving new meaning to ordinary objects, she wants us to think, she uses a lot of literary devices. ... Change At Green Mountain Resort Change at Green Mountain Resort Green Mountain Resort was a hospitality organization which underwent significant change after its original purpose vanished and the need to become more independent became key to its success (Palmer, Dunford, Akin, 2009). Due to the demographics of the county which Green Mountain Resort was located, the resort management faced a challenged concerning human capital (Palmer, Dunford, Akin, 2009). The new owner and manager, Gunter, identified human capital turnover as a problem, the hospitality industry claimed turnover as a chronic problem, and a newly hire consultant brought up an entirely new perspective to the so called turnover problem (Palmer, Dunford Akin, 2009). We ll first review Gunter s perspective and approach. Initially, Gunter s image of change outcome was that of a controlling director. He identified a potential problem area (turnover) and assumed through intended control, change could be achievable (Palmer, Dunford, Akin, 2009). After further analysis, Gunter also identified limitations from outside factors, such as available human capital resources making him somewhat of a navigator with only partially intended outcome. As a director, Gunter intended to simply fix the turnover problem. As a navigator, he recognized the outside factors. This led him to seek further analysis through further industry research (Palmer, Dunford, Akin, 2009). Hospitality industry research indicated turnover was a chronic problem ... Some of the differences between the two poems include the time period in which they were written, the upbringing of the characters, and also the characters reactions and solutions to the problems that they faced. Although the setting and characters of the poems Barbie Doll and The Chimney Sweeper are easy to contrast, the deeper meanings of the two are tantamount. One of the chief reasons that these poems ... The child from the Barbie Doll has a cookie cutter childhood. Bram Stoker associates vampirism and sexuality in the early parts of the book when the three females visit Jonathan. There was a deliberate voluptuousness, which was both thrilling and repulsive, and as she arched her neck, she actually licked her lips like an animal (Stoker, 1897) this quote being highly sexual in nature. Understanding the similarities of Strain Theory, amp; General Theory of Crime Angela Sampson # 2396467 Sociology 345: Social Control Professor: James Chriss Cleveland State University April 30th 2012 Abstract: The purpose is to identify the similarities between Strain theories, and General Theory of Crime. Strain was developed from the work of Durkheim and Merton and taken from the theory of anomie. Durkheim focused on the decrease of societal restraint and the strain that resulted at the individual level, and Merton studied the cultural imbalance that exists between goal and the norms of the individuals of society. General Theory of Crime , In 1990 Michael R. Gottfredson and Travis Hirschi wrote the book A General ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In essence, general strain theory proposed that an increase in strain would lead to an increase in anger, which may then lead to an increase in crime (Agnew, 1992:61). These previously mentioned goals turn into strain when the individual is faced with certain disjunctions in their life. The first of these disjunctions is the one that is the focus of previous strain theories, the disjunction between aspirations and expectations. This is founded on the principle of culturally bound goals and values that are accepted by everyone but yet not available to everyone. This idea of the American Dream then causes strain and frustration in the individual who cannot achieve this dream through legitimate means. This theory has been criticized because it does not explain middle class crime, it only focuses monetary goals, social class is the only barrier that is considered, and it does not specify why some turn to deviance. The loss of positively valued stimuli Agnew s research in the stress literature led him to the discovery that the removal of positive stimuli can also cause strain. This loss could manifest itself in the form of a death or a broken relationship with a friend or romantic partner, or it could be a result of the theft of a valued object. According to Agnew, the strain that is felt by the individual die to the loss could lead the individual to delinquency as the individual attempts to prevent its loss, ... Given the importance of the frontal and temporal lobes in executive and language functions, they hypothesized that bilinguals would exhibit greater volume of these cortical areas. The researchers discovered that bilinguals had more white matter in frontal lobe regions, which emphasizes the importance of preserved white matter in executive function. Many companies in our economy that use steel as an input to produce their goods are staggering due to recent extraordinarily high steel prices. President Bush dropped a tariff on imported steel on Thursday March 4th; according to basic economics, this cancellation of the steel import tariff should have dropped the price for US domestic consumers. On one side protection for the employees of domestic steel producers sounds good. After all shouldn t we support our fellow Americans and their employment needs? Indeed we should, but it is hard to determine which costs the American public more jobs, the tariff or the lack there of. Plus, which jobs are to be determined the most important, those of the steel workers, or those of the down stream users of steel? It may be in America s best interest to protect our small business owners and ourselves as the increased price from the tariff will most definitely be passed on to us, the consumer. The Argument for Tariffs Although tariffs usually cause domestic prices to increase they can have a positive effect on our economy and specifically our domestic producers of steel and their employees. The US trade policy has historically been protectionist in nature, and congress, the principle body of power for import policy, heavily favored domestic firms over their foreign competitors (Irwin 146). As a result, domestic steel producers have had tariffs and quotas in place for many years. An effective tariff raises revenue for our US government and can help to subsidize domestic production at the expense of foreign producers. This is good because the American government receives money from foreign exporters that it would not have otherwise had access to. For someone who had grown up sleeping on top of stone with a little hay, the comfort of a bed was a luxury she adored. Nonetheless, her roommate wasn t all too interested in her stillness. She had a mission, and that mission was to get her best friend out of bed. Samantha? she asked one more time, If you don t get out of bed, I will do something you won t like. After having shoved half of a waffle drowning in maple syrup down her throat, she said her goodbyes to Dawn and was out of the house. Heading off for the nearby trolley, she discovered that she was standing in front of the training hall in only a matter of minutes. Anxiously stepping into the building, she had no idea as to what would be happening. Other than the fact that Edgar was there, which made the trip worth it for her, she was totally clueless as to what he was planning. Needless to say, she stepped into the training hall anyway without a second thought. Spying around the room, she found Edgar with his sword up, practicing his thrusts with a dummy. He was able to make ten slices with his cutlass in five seconds, each slice perfectly straight and parallel to the others. His technique was so perfect that he may as well have been cutting plaid lines into the thing. S Sallo, Edgar? called out Sam. Edgar turned out, purring so loudly that it could be heard from twenty feet away. Miss Sam! he called. You re here! Grinning, she ran up to him, her tails flowing around like a sea anemone. Once the two finally met, they embraced each other, happily sighing. Ever since Victor passed away, they had barely made contact, but all of their worries melted away. • 44. Changing Picture of the Look of a Family Introduction In the past there was a clear picture of what a family would typically look like. In today s world it doesn t have to consist of a mother, a father and their biological children living together under one roof. It can consist of just a grandfather and his grandson, because they are still considered family. Throughout years families can create and indoctrinate new members. The power of the family is such that despite the possible separation of members by vast distances, sometimes even death, the family s influence remains (Goldenberg Goldenberg, p. 2, 2012). Even when a family member experiences a temporary or permanent sense of alienation from the family, he or she can never truly relinquish family membership (Goldenberg Goldenberg, p. 2, 2012). The family life cycle continuously evolves throughout the years. Families continue to remain the foundation of most people s lives. They can provide the security, support, and intimacy people need (Kirst Ashman Hull, p.329, 2012). Within families there should always be structure. Family structure refers to the organization of relationships and patterns of interaction occurring within the family. In addition, family structure will vary dramatically depending from one family to another (Kirst Ashman Hull, p.334, 2012). As social workers, we can work on a micro, mezzo and or macro level. We can encounter individual clients who may initially have individual problems. However, we may have to go from a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 47. Analysis Of The Book The Trojan War A New History Adrian Olivas September 8, 2015 Classics 40 Mr. Smith 4:00 Berry Strauss s The Trojan War a New History Book Review Barry Strauss, professor of classics at Cornell University attempts to redefine a one of history s biggest love affairs, the Trojan War. Strauss explains how certain events and characters from Homers The Odyssey might have actually existed, but also uses modern discoveries from the Bronze Age to compare Homers account to those of Egypt, the Middle East, and etc. While Homer s epic should not be read as a historical document which recounts the Trojan War hundred percent accurately, it can still be seen as document which embodies some historical truth. The novel as a whole explains the customs, economic standing, fighting styles and beliefs of the Greeks. Strauss s writing style allows for the book to be accessible to both students and historians. He argues that just like Franz Ferdinand was the spark which ignited World War 1, Helen on the other hand was just a spark which escalated an existing tension between the Greeks and Trojans. Strauss s personal input on the war itself gives the novel a different outlook on the Trojan War because, it allows for readers to see beyond the facts and make connections with ideas that Strauss had made with recent discoveries and Homers epic. Strauss sectionalizes the book in 11 chapters, excluding the introduction and conclusion, and in each chapter he covers a different aspect of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. Wendy Cope Looking for Someone to Love Love is a basic human need that everyone encounters at least once, if not more, in his or her lifetime. There are different means to look for a future lover, whether it is through the Internet, or meeting someone coincidentally at a restaurant. Then there is also the idea of writing a personal ad in newspapers describing exactly what you seek for in a relationship. In Wendy Cope s villanelle Lonely Hearts, there are individuals who have written ads describing themselves, as well as what they want in the other person. In Cope s poem there is the use of tone, repetition, and rhyme that work together in order to illustrate the lonesome and desperate people who rely on newspaper ads to find love. The ... This desire to find a relationship is so immense that the speaker has even asked for a picture of the reader of the ad to be sent to them. The number 152 rhymes with the word true. In doing this, the reader s attention is drawn to the words being said because rhymes attract readers to continue reading. These last few lines of the poem give hope to being able to find someone to love through a personal ad. In conclusion, Wendy Cope s villanelle has an obvious intent in demonstrating how the speakers in the poem are distressed in finding a companion, that they have gone as low as having to write a personal ad in a newspaper. Without love, there is loneliness and sadness, and in the poem, the different speakers show how gloomy they are without a significant other. Through the use of tone, repetition, and rhyme scheme, Wendy Cope reveals her argument that the speakers find themselves lost and isolated because they do not have any relationship with another human being, ... Baudelaire s attempts to show the reader that beauty can grow on its own. He would use women as his main source of symbolism serving as the middle between the ideal and the spleen. The spleen represents everything that is wrong with the world like death, murder and disease. While the ideal represents a perfection where love is united with ecstasy. They embodied what he called the elevation towards God and the steady descent toward Satan. Baudelaire connects women to nature as a result denying them a positive role in his imaginative vision, this is where adequate misogyny can be seen.
