Essay on Generation Gap
Essay on Generation Gap
How many times have you felt that your parents don t understand you, that they have no respect for
you as an individual? How often do you shake your head in frustration and blame it on the generation
gap ? Parents! They are like aliens from another planet altogether! You and they are in different
camps; strangers forced to live under the same roof Right? Wrong! There is a way of bridging what
appears to be a yawning chasm. If you genuinely want to improve your relationship with your parents
(and give them a big shock in the bargain!) try listening to them, treating them just like you would
listen to a valued friend. Instead of always whining, You don t understand me , stop and think. Do we
ever try and understand ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Generation gap means difference in attitude, or lack of understanding between younger and older
generation. This generation gap has always been there but these days it has reached to an explosive
stage. The values and patterns of life have changed to a great extent. Today, everybody likes to live
and behave in his own way. This attitude has widened the generation gap, which can never be filled. It
is now destroying family life completely. The elders look after the children and make all sorts of
sacrifices to bring them up. Naturally, they feel they have a right over them. They want their children
to follow their instructions as they have certain expectations from them. But the children, when they
grow up, want a complete freedom in their thoughts and actions and unfortunately their thoughts and
actions are just opposite to those expected by the elders. They revolt when any kind of restrictions are
imposed on them. Consequently, the family breaks up and everything gets ruined.
In India, we are yet in the initial stages, but the gap has appeared and it is going to grow bigger day by
day. So it is not only the responsibility of the younger but also of the elders to fill this gap with their
love, affection and trust. The

Water Resource Management ( Wrm )
Introduction: Water is extremely vital for all forms of life, from microorganisms to humans to
ecosystems alike. Water is a key factor in driving economic and social development within countries,
impacting agriculture, energy, sanitation and health, gender equality etc (World Bank, 2014). For these
reasons humans have invested an abundant amount of time, labor, and money into perfecting water
infrastructures in an effort to provide water services for populations worldwide. Water resource
management (WRM) goal is to manage and allocate water resources in a manner that satisfies the
demand of domestic, agricultural and industrial water sectors. Often left out of the equation is the
water demand needed for ecosystem sustainability. WRM ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ecosystem Services: Aquatic ecosystems play a pivotal role for living organisms, providing life
supporting services, along with valuable goods and services for society. Aquatic ecosystems are able
to decrease flood damages by storing season floodwaters. They supply humans with water for
domestic, agricultural, and industrial sectors and aid in recharging groundwater supplies, which is an
essential source of potable water. Furthermore, the recharging of groundwater aids in drought
mitigation. Freshwater ecosystems play a similar role to water treatment plants in that they filter out
pollutants and purify water. They support a variety of plant and animal life, which ultimately creates a
robust food chain, supporting human and wildlife consumption. Wetlands reduce greenhouse gas
emissions by storing carbon dioxide rather than releasing it into the atmosphere. As mentioned above,
ecosystems help mitigate water related disasters. Aquatic ecosystems provide nutrients to estuaries,
river deltas, and maintain soil fertility. Additionally, by delivering freshwater, freshwater ecosystems
are able to maintain salinity balances within estuaries (Postel, 2008; SRWP, 2007; GWP, n.d.).
Water Demand for Ecosystem/Environmental Flow Requirements: Aquatic ecosystems rely on water
to survive and if the amount of water they rely on dwindles, the ecosystem becomes negatively
impacted and the services they provide will

White Collar Crime And Organized Crime
Introduction: This paper explores white collar crime and elaborates on the types of organized crimes
through the analysis of case studies. Furthermore, I will also discuss the differences and similarities
between professional crime and organized crime. White collar crime is the use of deceptive acts to
solely benefit oneself, often leaving many victimized. Within this paper, I explain which theories best
clarify why individuals partake in these criminal behaviors, and preventative methods. In addition, I
will state my opinion on the severity of white collar crime and organized crime.
Description: According to Sutherland, the definition of white collar crime is violations of the law
committed by a person of high social status within the course of their otherwise respectable
occupation, business, or profession . Within this definition Sutherland places a significant amount of
emphasis on a few key words. The first key word is of high social status, which excludes those
individuals who are of middle class and lower echelons. Secondly, the deception must occur within the
business setting. White collar crime has a damaging impact on the social morale because it causes
individuals to lose trust in financial institutions, which sends negative images to the middle and lower
class. Without the use of investing, it creates a hindrance to the growth of the economy. Moreover,
many of those victimized do not know they were taken advantage of, and can those their life savings

Evolution Of Sharks Essay
Amongst the many living creatures of the aquatic world lurks an evolutionary advanced species called
Selachimorpha, commonly known as Sharks. Sharks are the most dominantly feared creatures of the
marine world. Although they are perceived as a threat to humans, these animals keep marine
organisms in check. Sharks have developed a unique physical structure that enables them to efficiently
hunt prey while simultaneously playing a vital role in balancing the ecosystem. These apex predators
fall under the classification class Chondrichthyes, which is comprised of cartilaginous skeleton.
Chondrichthyes is sub divided into two classes; the Elasmobranchii, composed of sharks, skates and
rays, and the Holocephali ( Shark Taxonomy 8). As we move further down the scientific classification,
identifying these similar looking creatures become more difficult. Their order is separated into two
super orders, which are the extinct Cladoselachimorph and the Euselachii; composed of 12 orders of
which only nine are amongst us today (9). Many scientists believe that sharks descended from an
eyeless, finless, and boneless leaf shaped fish and that they came to existence at around 400 million
years ago ( Shark Evolution 1). Documented fossil records show that there were over 3,000 types of
sharks and may have existed at the same period of time (Jones, The Epic History of Sharks ). The
reason it is difficult to discover them all is due to the rotting of the cartilaginous bone structure ( Shark

Concepts In Inception
Inception Inception was released in 2010, and the film was given a slightly futuristic atmosphere, but
a specific date was not clarified. The main character, Dom Cobb (Leonardo DiCaprio), possesses a
skill that allows him to access the subconscious minds of sleeping people to observe their dreams and
acquire information found only there. His behavior and practices are deviant in that they are abnormal,
illegal in that world, and generally frowned upon; he also teaches others to do what he does extraction.
His partner, Arthur (Joseph Gordon Levitt), is also an extractor, as well as his only student at the time,
Ariadne (Ellen Page) (IMDB.com). In Inception, the film displays the apparent reality of the Thomas
Theorem If men define situations as real, they are real in their consequences (Thomas, W.I., Thomas,
D.S.) (Thomas). Cobb and his team create realities so as to collect vital, secret information they would
not otherwise have access to, and in those realities, are levels. More dreams, dreams within dreams. ...

Every action made has consequences in multiple realities. A good example of this is when Saito (Ken
Watanabe) (IMDB.com) is shot in the second level of three dreams, and he eventually starts bleeding
in the outside world, where a dream is just a dream, not a subconscious to be exploited. Eventually,
Saito dies from his injuries, and is sent into Limbo, a place where the subconscious is never ending,
and itself is unaware of the difference of this reality and the real world, thus the person in Limbo is

Karen Sternheimer Media Violence Does Not Cause Youth...
Over the last decade, media has taken over the majority of the world through twenty four hour
coverage, various television shows and movies, and endless advertisements. There is no way to escape
the media, especially the younger generations. Because of the constant coverage, some violence may
be covered on the news, in video games, or entertainment. Some believe that the violence brainwashes
younger generations and causes them to mirror that cruelty. In Media Violence Does Not Cause Youth
Violence, Karen Sternheimer argues the opposite. Through appeals and strong premises, Sternheimer
wrote a sound and valid argument that only has a few minor faults.
To structure and maintain the momentum of her piece, Sternheimer utilized residue reasoning ... Show

In her introduction, she ensure her readers that she is not biased by revealing that she has been accused
of only challenging the media violence connection because [she] is secretly funded by the
entertainment industry (Sternheimer, 2010) but she assures that [she] is not (Sternheimer, 2010). It is
obvious she is trying to build her ethos by saying this but with her background as a lecturer in the
Department of Sociology, she does not need to address this. Beginning with this puts a damper on her
ethos until she established them again with the presented assumptions and rebuttals. Another problem
found was one assumption made: we seldom hear public outcry about the declining morals of adults
(Sternheimer, 2010). Not everyone has the same morals, so to say that adult morals are declining is not
sound; someone, who has different morals, may not see it as that much of a decrease. Also, there are
many counterarguments that the other side could come back with to prove that there is public outcry
about the violence committed by adults. Overall, though, Sternheimer s argument is well thought out
and skillfully

Rats are various medium sized rodents. True rats are members of the genus Rattus, the most important
of which to humans are the black rat, Rattus rattus, and the brown rat, R. norvegicus. Many members
of other rodent genera and families are also called rats and share many characteristics with true rats. A
rat has an average life span of 2 3 years[1].
Rats are distinguished from mice by their size; rats generally have bodies longer than 12 cm (5 in).

years, rats have been used in many experimental studies, which have added to our understanding of
genetics, diseases, the effects of drugs, and other topics that have provided a great benefit for the
health and wellbeing of humankind. Laboratory rats have also proved valuable in psychological
studies of learning and other mental processes (Barnett 2002). A 2007 study found rats to possess

The Things They Carried The Weight Of Life Essay
The Weight of Life
They carried the sky. The whole atmosphere, they carried it, the humidity, the monsoons, the stink of
fungus and decay, all of it, they carried gravity, (O Brien 114). The Things They Carried follows army
men as they endure the hardships of battle. Through the story, we are introduced to the characters by
what they carry with them. Each object reveals continuously more about the characters that ultimately
brings us to an understanding of who they are. The use of objects in this story relates well with my
life. By looking at what I carry, it can be determined who I am. May it be a driver s license, style
choice, or even the way one carries himself; it can be determined (at least roughly) who someone is.
However, it is the meaning behind what we carry that truly defines who we are. Tangible or intangible,
what we carry tells our individual story ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I personally relate well to a specific portion of this story. Lieutenant Jimmy Cross carried a pebble
with him everywhere he went. It may seem absurd to carry a pebble while at war... what s the use,
right? However, he carried more than just a pebble; he carried his love for Martha through that
seemingly useless rock. I too carried an object like that pebble: something seemingly useless. I
acquired a green wrist band while with my good friend. This was one of the last times I spoke to her.
From that day on, I wore the green wrist band every minute of every hour for two years. Although I
cared very much for her, the feelings only went in one direction. Every time I looked down at the
green band it reminded me of her. One day the green wrist band finally snapped... but I wasn t sad.
When it gave out it was almost like closure for me. When the small weight of that band was lifted
from my wrist, an even larger weight was lifted from my heart. I looked down at the fractured band,
smiled, and threw it

Though you are young, you both believed it was time and went ahead and brought a baby into your

However blissful life may seem, things soon come crashing down. You and your significant other

your bank account. You want to spend time with your new bundle of joy, but suddenly, your baby is

Research from Israel shows that when more time is given off to new fathers, the more their brain
changes to better suit them to be a parent (Thompson). Being around the new child and caring for
them allows the father to share responsibilities that a baby brings along. Having time to dedicate
solely to the child gives the father the ability to bond with their baby. A study by two Columbia
University professors discovered that fathers who are given time off (two or more weeks) are more
involved with their child s lives in nine months, proving that better parental relationships come from
paid paternity leave ( Columbia News ). Paternity leave also creates a foundation of trust between
father and child, and relieves the pressure put on mothers. When fathers are around immediately after
the baby is born, mothers are not forced to do all the work around the house while caring for a
newborn. The two week (or more) time frame when fathers are around would allow for a period where
both parents can get settled and adapt to taking care of the child. In Sweden, to qualify for government
benefits, the father is required to take off two months from work before the child becomes eight years
old. More research has proven that for every month that fathers took leave to take care of their child,
the income of mothers increased about 7% (Johansson, Elly Ann). Thus, paternity leave not only
benefits the newborn child, but also mothers. This paid leave can give new parents the ability to get to
know their child and adapt to the new responsibilities. There are a multitude of countries that provide
paid paternity leave, and the United States is one of nine counties who does not have this option.
There is no reason that fathers should not have an allotted time to spend at home with their child and
spouse, and so this country should mandate the option of giving paid paternity

What Are The Struggles Of The Older Generation
Words and stories can connect generations through understanding of the struggles of the opposite
generation, and they can resolve conflicts between people. In Thank You M am by Langston Hughes,
a teenage boy attempts to steal the purse of an elderly woman by the name of Mrs. Jones. He is
unsuccessful, and Mrs. Jones takes the boy home where they have a conversation, although Mrs. Jones
does most of the talking. Eventually, the Mrs. Jones reveals to the boy that she too once resorted to
less than honest measures to get something she wanted, creating a connection between her and the boy
that allowed her to instill in him a sense of honor and respect, as the text says, The woman did not

Also, those of older generations have lived much longer than younger generations, and have
experienced much more, so they have gathered an ample amount of wisdom and valuable life lessons
they can share with the younger generation. This is evident in Thank You M am when Mrs. Jones
teaches the thief that she once resorted to crime as well, but that there is always a better option,
helping him to turn away from crime to accomplish his goals. It can be hard for different generations
to communicate because of differing perspectives caused by drastically different cultures and ways of
life between generations. For example, my father is very stubborn and retains many beliefs about how
a family should be run based on how he was raised, which makes it very hard to negotiate and
communicate with him about the issues of my generation. Another example of this is Mr. Brown in
Cub Pilot on the Mississippi. He doesn t communicate very well with those of a different generation,
treats them poorly, and hardly listens to them at all, as evidenced by his treatment of Mr. Twain

Ways People Respond To Conflict Essay
People respond to conflict in many ways. A few such ways include responding to conflict through
lying, deception, and caving in to survive. These are the cases with Diary of Anne Frank. and HItler
youth.
Lying is one way people deal with conflict. Why wouldn t it be. An example would be from the Diary
of Anne Frank. The Diary is in the point of view of a young girl and her family hiding from the Nazis.
She details her experiences in the annex as well as her thoughts and feelings of herself and others
around her. Essentially, Anne and her family lie to the government and neighbors. There have even
been many times when the Nazis have lied. They have lied to Jews by telling them they would be
taking showers and killed them. Lying seems normal in situations of conflict. People may lie to save
themselves or to save others. People may also lie to achieve a sort of goal, whether it be good or bad.
It seems to be a very common way of responding to conflict.
Deception falls into a similar, if not the same, category of lying. It is a trick or scheme to get what you
want. Again the example of this would be when Anne and her family hid in the annex. This, like I said
before, was to escape the Nazis and concentration camps. It ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Sickle Cells Anaemia And The Sickle Cell Trait
UNDERSTANDING SICKLE CELL ANAEMIAAND THE SICKLE CELL TRAIT
Introduction
Sickle Cell Anaemia is the commonest of most severe form of Sickle Cell Disease. SCD is a collective
term for hereditary haemoglobinopathies caused by the inheritance of a mutated haemoglobin allele
(sickle haemoglobin HbS) in the erythrocytes. The HbS mutation is caused by a Valine to Glutamic
acid substitution at the 6th amino acid of the β globin chain. (Harmon et al., 2012)The first known
case of SCD in the western world was recorded in 1910 in the United States, when a 20 year old black
student from Grenada presented abnormal erythrocytes upon examination of his blood. This can now
be recognised as the major characteristic of SCD where the erythrocytes assume the shape of a sickle
when deprived of oxygen in vivo hence the name of the disease. Although SCD is most prevalent in
individuals of African ancestry, the disease is also existent in people from Meditterenean
Europe,Hispanic, Midle Eastern and Indian Asian backgrounds. The explanation of the regional
specificity of SCD is the correlation between the geographical locations where Falciparum Malaria
was once endemic and high incidents of Haemoglobin S mutations in those particular regions.
However, the occurrence of SCD disease in regions that have no known history of Falcipurum Malaria
can be attributed to migration. In Britain for example, the first incidents of SCD were recorded after
the postwar immigration of the non white population

The Hypocrisy of Religion in Moby Dick Essay
The Hypocrisy of Religion in Moby Dick
Stubb decides to give Old Fleece a lecture on religion after waking him to complain about his
overcooked whale steak. Not only does Stubb ask Fleece to preach to the sharks who are making a
considerable din eating the dead whale chained to the ship, but he compares Fleece s inability to
correctly cook a whale steak to Fleece s un Christian ways. This passage is an excellent example of
the theme of the hypocrisy of religion in Moby Dick.
Before Stubb calls on Fleece, Ishmael compares the actions of the shark to the actions of man. He first
compares Stubb to the sharks: Nor was Stubb the only banqueter on whale s flesh that night. Mingling
their mumblings with his own mastications, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this context, humans are no more civilized or refined than sharks.
However, Stubb s lines tell us that he believes otherwise. After he complains to Fleece about the
overdone steak, he orders Fleece to deliver his message to enjoy the whale but keep quiet while
indulging: now then, go and preach to them! (___). Fleece sullenly obeys, and tells the sharks to stop
dad dam noise dare (___). The irony begins here when Stubb steps and tells Fleece that he s doing it
all wrong, that you don t convert sinners by swearing. Stubb s classification of the sharks as sinners
becomes hypocritical, for as Ishmael and Fleece remark, Stubb himself is a sinner.
Fleece begins his sermon again, this time without the profanity.
Your woraciousness, fellow critters. I don t blame ye so much for; dat is natur, and can t be helped; but
to gobern dat wicked natur, dat is de pint. You is sharks, sartin; but if you gobern de shark in you, why
den you be angel; for all angel is not ing more dan de shark well goberned (___).
Fleece is saying that everyone has a wicked nature, but if one can control that nature, they can be
angels. Stubb completely misses this point of this warm moment; his comment that s Christianity,
seems more like a praise of Fleece s ability to refrain from swearing instead of a realization that
Fleece is saying there is good in everyone, regardless of the religious affiliation one is labeled.

Kinship Institution Research Paper
The kinship institution is one of the first institutions that were formed in human societies, and for most
of the history of human race it was the main body of organizing the society, socially, economically,
and politically. When we speak of social institutions then we are talking about invented structures that
exist in all societies, and they are made of common rules that generate rights, duties, and privileges.
They are also organized through established values, morals, and networks. They emerge to solve
problems of human interactions, and they change with the increasing complexity of human societies.
As a result, all social institutions are similar on the basic level.
In that sense, the kinship institution shares a similar structure with other social institutions, however,
kinship emerged as the first institution of organizing the early human societies, and even though the
nature and the role of the kinship institution has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Beginning in the late 18th century, a new mode of economic system has emerged in several places in
Europe, after machinery has taken over most of the labour that was done by humans before. Just as the
economic system and the political relations had changed, the kinship institution had gone through
rapid changes to fulfill the demands of industrialization and urbanization. As a result, the family
shifted from being the central unit of economic production to a distinct unit of social interactions. The
new economic system had forced family members into factory life and city living, which divorced
them from the daily economic behaviors of the past. In addition, children were forced to leave their
homes to work in factories, and many families started to move away from their established
communities into cities and bigger towns. As a result, the industrial revolution has changed the
division of labor roles within the family and it has changed the function of the

Sixth Sense Essay
In the film Sixth Sense , directed by M. Night Shyamalan there are various aspects used in the final
scene to express the theme of communication (relationship) and the supernatural. Four aspects are
Voice over, Music, 2 Shot and Flashback.
In Sixth Sense the director uses Voice over to show, the theme of supernatural and communication.
The voice over is used after Malcolm and Anna s dialogue. When Malcolm sees Anna dropping his
ring on the floor, he slowly steps backward with startled look on his face, then the Voice over of Cole s
voice I see dead, they don t know they are dead comes giving a hint to the viewer and Malcolm about
the truth. After the Voice over, he takes a look around the house, one plate on the table, his basement

The director narrates Malcolm being a ghost by using Voice over he also used Voice over to help the
viewer to understand the theme of supernatural and communication. This also makes the viewer to
flashback to the scene which was not understandable.
Music is one of the aspects the director uses to catch the viewers attention and to build up tension and
suspense. In the last scene, the music starts when Malcolm realizes the truth of him being a ghost.
Classical music is used in the film; fast pace, grand music is played. The music gets even louder and
grander when it meets the Voice over and Flashbacks when he starts to realize him as a ghost, then a
sound of a gunshot from the night he died is played. After the Flashback of the night and remembering
the last moment, the music turns into slow, calm, romantic music, creating a warm mood as it s
implying a happy ending. The director uses dynamics in music shows the crisis and resolution
indirectly. Two Shot of the Malcolm and Anna are shown at the start and the end of the film. The
director uses Two Shot is to show the changes in the relationship between them and the theme of
communication. In the

Billy Goat Trail Essay
Billy Goat Trail The Billy Goat trail currently located in Maryland and is part of the Great Falls. After
getting familiar with the Billy Goat Trail you can see all the evidence that a great geological
phenomenon has occurred at that location. This location went through several geographical changes
that I will be mentioning along with some of the evidence from the Billy Goat Trail. The Billy Goat
Trail actually started at the bottom of the Iaptus Ocean more than 460 million years ago. At the bottom
of the ocean the sand was being deposited on top of the mud making some graded bedding that was
caused by turbidity currents. The rock that was being formed from graded bedding on the bottom of
the ocean floor was the sedimentary rock called ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Acadian Orogeny not only started the mountain building in the region but also brought volcanic
activity along and this meant that the rocks in the region now where under a great amount of pressure
and extreme amount of heat.
Some of the evidence that I observed at the Billy Goat Trail from the Acadian Orogeny was the Gneiss
rocks that where hidden underneath the large boulders where we stopped for lunch. The rock Gneiss
requires high pressure and high heat because the rock has U shaped banding due to the pressure and
black and white striations from the heat. (2) Another observation from the trip that supports the
Acadian Orogeny is the Lamprophyre dikes that cut across the Meta Greywacke and are found in both
sides of the Potomac River. The Lamprophyre dikes are younger than the Meta Greywacke since they
cut across them and since the dikes are made of basalt they can be dated back about 360 million years
ago thus linking them to the Acadian Orogeny. Also the dikes weather out faster than the rock around
them. (3)
After the Acadian Orogeny the continent of North America collided with Africa which was at the time
of Pangea. Then the continents separated and opened up a new ocean called the Atlantic Ocean but
there was no evidence found in the region to prove this geological event so the time missing is called
an unconformity. During this time the region was just experiencing weathering

Nor Easters Case Analysis
Executive Summary
In Springfield Nor easters case study, Larry Buckingham is the marketing director for the Nor easters,
a class A minor league baseball team in Springfield, MA. As any other profit seeking business the
objective of this sports club is to sustain a viable business by making profit, at least brake even in the
opening season. The two major sources of revenue for Nor easters are ticket and concession sales.
Larry conducts market research to gain knowledge about potential customers and their willingness to
attend Nor easters games on different ticket price levels. The results of the survey and other
information collected by various sources help Larry to develop a pricing strategy for the Nor easters

He sends postcards to 10,000 recipients, whose contacts are bought from Springfield census tracts and
4 sports related organizations, to direct them to the website where they can complete the online
questionnaire. Despite the $500 motivational incentive drawing the response rate is small (625 out of
10,000) which Buckingham believes that it is a decent sample of the population.
Key findings from the survey are as follows: * The customer profile: Potential customers are equal
likely to be male or female and not necessarily baseball fans. The majority of them are between 26 and
35 years of age with children 5 to 16 years old (34% have no children in this age range and no
children at all). They have an annual income between $22,500 and $75,000 and are fairly educated
(72% are high school graduate and above). * A significant majority of the respondents never attended
a sports game. Only 39% said they would attend one or a few games per year. * The pricing questions
show that customers are willing to pay between $10 and $14 for a single ticket which is the biggest
market according to the survey results as mentioned above. The larger the ticket package, the more
discounted the customers expect the price to be. Most customers are not willing to pay more than 10%
for premium seating. 81% of the respondents stated that they would spend between $6 and $15 on
concessions.

Family Dynamics And Juvenile Delinquency
There are four key elements in the family dynamic that affect juvenile delinquency. They are families
disrupted by separation and divorce, families involved in interpersonal conflict, ineffective parent who
lack appropriate parenting skills, and families that encompass deviant parents who may transfer their
behavior to their children.
From research, one of the most controversial studies on child deviant behavior involved the parents
and/or guardians acting as the key component of informal social control. When a family separation
occurs, there are no mechanisms in place to control children from becoming involved in antisocial
behavior and a broken home is a strong indicator of a child s law violating activities. A broken home is

The On Download Free Music
In 1998, the first websites to download free music appeared, thus making it possible for users to share
mp3 files between one another online. These free sites caused CD sales to plummet 72% from 2000 to
2013. Spotify, founded in Sweden in 2006, came onto the online streaming music scene with the
mission to let people listen to music they want, when they want and where they want. Spotify is
different from the other sites like Napster and Limewire by giving customers legal access to a library
of over 30 million pieces of music. Daniel Ek and Martin Lorentzon, the men behind Spotify, sought
to find a way to give the public unlimited access to an exhaustive catalogue of songs, stored on servers
and available online. Therefore, Spotify encourages people to abandon pirating by giving the public
the ability for Internet users to get unrestricted access to music online, without breaking the law.
Spotify offers two types of memberships: free and paid premium. The free users are able to listen on a
phone, tablet, or computer with advertisements for a few minutes every hour. While the premium user
pays $10.00 per month to listen without advertisements, unlimited skips, and the ability to listen
offline. September 2011 Facebook and Spotify integrated with one another. However, Facebook did
not offer Spotify exclusive access to its users. Regardless, Spotify was still able to gain about four
million users after two months into its partnership with Facebook. Now, signing up for Spotify

This is a performance that is intentionally popular that has a sentimental value. The audience for this
performance has a small market by the cause of favor and approval by their audience. The market is
small because this is not a normally tradition so only a certain audience would know about it.
The relationship between sacred and secular in this performance is secular because it has no ties to
religion. Sacred is not done in this performance because it does not have a tied to religion reminding
us of God. The habits rituals and routine of the Zuni Turkey Dance shows a secular meaning through
the use of the performance.
After examining Goffman and Schechner s theories of reception and performance a performance is
unique and interactive. The uniqueness of a performance is on the interactivity of the creation or
production from the audience. Goffman defines performance by the influence it has on participants. If
it doesn t influence the participants or audience it s not a performance. While Schencher defines a
performance by what is placed into the performance. Performances are bits of restored behavior that
include living behaviors recombined, rearranged, and reconstructed. In other words performances
exist as actions, interactions, and relationships. There are many kinds of performance in the arts, in
sports , and in ritual. For example, War Horse Film was a

The Political Theology Of The Spanish State
conversion to the political theology of the Spanish State. We argued that the articulation of forced
conversion as a paramount goal of the State s ontological aspirations relies upon a misunderstanding
apropos of the alleged divine performativity of the Law. We then moved to The Turn and analysed the
literary sublimation that Cervantes operates in Don Quixote I II apropos of the aforementioned
political reality. In particular, we focused on the way Cervantes s ingenium relies upon the trope of
conversion (literary sense) and on how its deployment helped Cervantes circumvent the inquisitorial
censorship while suspending the reader s belief in the State s ontological tendency (and by extension,
in forced conversion as the crowning policy of that ambition). As part of this task, we analyzed a
multiplicity of semantic (featuring a symbolism linked to the countryside, the military, the economic,
the religious, the political, the professional fields, to name but a few) and non semantic displacements
(related to the materiality of language as such) across forms (novel and theatre, but also poetry) and
genres (epic, comedy, tragedy, tragicomedy, realistic fiction, romance and satire)iv. After The Pledge
and The Turn it is now time for us to ask ourselves the following question: for all this string of ecstatic
conversions, wherein, though, resides The Prestige of Cervantes as instantiated in Don Quixote Parts I

her shadow at a tribal dance, and I have seen her, pensive and inviolable, her clothes clinging to her
wet body, beside a tank in Benares .Yes this woman keeps crossing my dreams causing in me a fearful
disturbance, the full meaning of which I have yet to understand. (p.93) This vague image is later
concretized in the form of Bilasia, the Bhil woman whom he finds an ideal combination of Otherness
and the Self. Bilasia s exotic Otherness is clearly seen in her untamed beauty , her promiscuity and her
obvious difference from the respectable wife, Meena. Yet, how is Bilasia an ideal other for Billy
Biswas, the upper class Hindu? Perhaps this may be explained by the way tribals have generally been
viewed as peripheral communities within the dominant Hindu fold. So while recognizing the tribal
Otherness, the Hindu view also makes them accessible. Moreover, Bilasia has beauty albeit an
untamed one and she belongs to the Bhil community, which has traditionally been seen as possessing
many Rajput qualities, like valour, nobility etc. Incidentally, one may compare the account of Billy s
life with that of Verrier Elwin, an Englishman who came to India as a Christian missionary in 1927. A
few years later, varrier Elwin voluntarily gave up his ministry and decided to devote himself to the
tribal people of India. He started living in the Chhattisgarh area, along with Shamrao Hivale. Though

Metamorphosis 5-7 Of The Sermon At The Sermon On The Mount
The New Testament of the Christian Bible has been believed, critiqued, scrutinized, and intensely
studied since it came into existence. Men and women around the globe have argued and interpreted
sections of the book in several different ways. Whereas the entire book rarely agrees with most people
s ethical or spiritual values, portions of the book have become entwined with social and legal codes in
the modern world. Chapters 5 7 of the book of Matthew, one of four gospel books that chronicle the
life of Jesus, are commonly referred to at the Sermon on the Mount. This widely accepted passage
inspires millions around the world and has done so for thousands of years. Naturally, some of the most
historically significant human rights movements use ideas and concepts discussed by Jesus in the
Sermon on the Mount regardless of their religious affiliation. Mahatma Gandhi, Martin Luther King,
and Dietrich Bonheoffer, all implemented aspects of the sermon in their respective struggles against
oppressive groups. This text, regardless of its origin, provides an exceptional ethical base and acts as
an effective tool when applied to social movements. Mahatma Gandhi ... Show more content on

righteousness, mercy, and peace will receive eternal rewards in the kingdom of heaven. All three of
these men can relate to verse 10 which reads, Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness
sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven (Matt. 5:10). A major reason these three men are celebrated
is because all were killed fighting for righteousness. Gandhi and King each received bullets for their
service to society, and Bonheoffer faced the noose at the hands of the Nazi regime. All of them

score of 102 to 72. Miami dominated Washington in overall shooting and defense. This allowed them
to pull away from Washington with at 26 to 4 scoring run in the fourth quarter. ( Saturday December

games. It was also their chance for redemption, after falling to the Wizards (3 18) 105 101 on Dec. 4
in Washington. LeBron James led the Heat with 23 points, 10 rebounds and five assists while Dwyane
Wade added 13 points and Chris Bosh had 12. The Heat led for most of the way behind strong play
from their three superstars and a solid defensive effort. It was one of the few times they were able to
produce a balanced scoring effort. Despite James leading the way again, they had four starters score in

Models Predictive Control For A Finite Time Horizon
4. Model predictive control
MPC is a general term for computer control algorithms [10] that uses an outright process model to
predict future response of the plant.
An optimized input is determined by solving an open loop optimal control problem over a finite time
horizon. The number of samples one looks forward is called the prediction horizon Np. While, number
of samples that the optimal input is computed for is called the control horizon Nu. The complexity of
the problem can be decreased by selecting a shorter control horizon than prediction horizon. From the
calculated input signal only the first element is applied to the system.
This can allows solving online the optimized control problem, where prediction error action and
control input are minimized through a future horizon, possibility of subject to constraints on the
manipulated inputs, outputs and states. Then, the optimization returns an optimal control sequence as
input and the first input only from the sequence is used as input to the system. By the next sample
interval, the total optimization approach repeated and the horizon shifted. This approach is used to
allow indemnity for modeling error and future disturbance. Basic structure of model predictive control
is shown in Fig. 2. Fig. 2 Basic structure of model predictive control
In an MPC algorithm there are four important elements:
4.1. Model used for prediction
The model is in most MPC formulations today given on discrete time state space form:

Fredrick Douglass
Frederick Douglass tells his story in the Narrative of the Life of Fredrick Douglass, an American
Slave. He was born as a slave; therefore, he uses his story to illustrate slavery and racism in the
nineteenth century. In addition, Douglass describes his experience as a slave to portray his race, which
has been treated cruelly by many white people. Also, Douglass uses his story as evidence for the
abolishment of slavery. Within his story, there are three key incidents that affect Douglass s life and
the reader s opinion of slavery: when Douglass learns to read and write, when he stands up to his cruel
master, Covey, and finally the controversy surrounding the Christmas holiday. First, Douglass believes
that education is a sharp sword to break the chains of slavery. Also, he figures that white men have the
power to control African Americans as slaves by keeping slaves ignorant: If you teach that nigger

Slaveholders allow their slaves to drink only during the Christmas holiday. Douglass explains the
reason: I believe [the holidays] to be among the most effective means in the hands of the slaveholder
in keeping down the spirit of insurrection (1049). Through this holiday, audiences realize that owners
with education know how to rule slaves and control a slave s mind, by keeping them ignorant, hiding
their identity, and making them lose their interest in freedom. Douglass also sees that the holidays are
part and parcel of the gross fraud, wrong, and inhumanity of slavery (1049). The masters give slaves a
brief time to enjoy Christmas at the end of year, but they will hold their slave for the rest of the year.
He cannot stand for being defrauded by his owner; therefore, he becomes determined to fight for
slaves freedom. By reading this story, readers feel sympathy for slaves and probably they will be anti
slavery, which is one of Douglass purposes in publishing his life

Greed And Obitivity
In a society with too much greed and possessions can lead the world that is inhumane. People are
never satisfied with what they currently have, they always desire for more or better than this or that
person. Throughout history and literature, greed is a classic topic in human development that naturally
affects many of our decisions. Of Course, people would agree that increase of possessions is a way to
motivate us in order to reach a certain height of success. Greed doesn t mean you have a sin, it s just
how the world works. There is an old saying, If you want something, work for it. Greed doesn t mean
selfish, people just want to work toward their goals and increase their status in a cruel society that is
full of judgemental people. Without greediness in our life, it would be like plain bread, without the
peanut butter or the jam. One particular person in history that is well known for his ambitious action
and power hungry was Hitler. Hitler used many of his tactics for people to vote for him motivational
speech and make Germany better, this way people can follow Hitler. Once Hitler had abundance
followers, he wanted to dictate people live and used violence against people who disobeyed his orders.
Since Hitler was a very ambitious person, he wanted to rule all of Germany and Europe and to make
Germany better , he gets rid of unwanted people, which are the Jews by sending them to the

The inclusion on the Act of the definition prevents such an interpretation, due to the fact that it is only
a person s status as a sex worker that is protected. There are four attributes that involve activity ,
namely breastfeeding , political activity , trade union activity and religious activity .9 The Court
compared the definition of lawful sexual activity with these four, and found that only religious activity
is defined in the Act. Such a definition implies that religious activity has categories of activity or non
activity, whereas lawful sexual activity has no such definition and is defined only in the form of status
. Hence, it may be concluded that the attribute cannot be extended beyond status as a lawfully
employed sex worker 10 to include the category of activity the engaging in prostitution on the
premises. Thus the Appeal Tribunal erred in this regard.
In applying the test in section 10(1)11 one must identify the characteristics relevant in the comparator.
The court applied Purvis,12 and state that circumstances that are the same or not materially different
13 include all of the objective features which surround the actual or intended treatment 14 of the
claimer.
It was viewed that the Tribunal identified the incorrect comparator due to the notion that a person who
intends to use a room for purposes of prostitution is not necessarily a person without the

The Importance Of A Management Information System
A management information system is a computerized method of improving the efficiency of the daily
activities of businesses as well as improving the decision making process. A management information
system can show the status of a business conditions and whether or not these conditions are improving
or not. The decision making process can only be effective if the information is updated regularly by
those with authority to access this information.
There are very few management information systems that actually work effectively, most not even
meeting expectations. Many management information systems are designed under the basis that
managers have a lack of relevant information, while actually they are receiving too much irrelevant ...

However, even when given perfect information there are too many variables for even an experienced
individual to give an optimal solution for the problem or objective at hand. Therefore, to be
successful, you must determine how well managers are able to use the information that they are given.
There are a couple more reasons why MIS tend to fail and meet the expectations of the managers that
are using them. One of these reasons is interdepartmental communication. The author of this specific
article believes that when MIS provide up to date information on what each department in a business
is doing, it negatively affects the performance of the business, contrary to what most believe. This was
implemented into MIS because designers thought that with interdepartmental communication,
decisions can be made more effectively and efficiently, which does sound right at first. However the
author, gives an example of how this system is ineffective and should be abandoned. He mentions a
real life example involving a merchandising department and a purchasing department in a store. The
merchandising department gives the purchasing department an exact figure on how many items they
should buy to be re sold to consumers, based off of a price demand curve. The purchasing department
being slightly pessimistic and not wanting to pay as much for the merchandise orders a fewer number
of items than what the

  • 2. Essay on Generation Gap Essay on Generation Gap How many times have you felt that your parents don t understand you, that they have no respect for you as an individual? How often do you shake your head in frustration and blame it on the generation gap ? Parents! They are like aliens from another planet altogether! You and they are in different camps; strangers forced to live under the same roof Right? Wrong! There is a way of bridging what appears to be a yawning chasm. If you genuinely want to improve your relationship with your parents (and give them a big shock in the bargain!) try listening to them, treating them just like you would listen to a valued friend. Instead of always whining, You don t understand me , stop and think. Do we ever try and understand ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Generation gap means difference in attitude, or lack of understanding between younger and older generation. This generation gap has always been there but these days it has reached to an explosive stage. The values and patterns of life have changed to a great extent. Today, everybody likes to live and behave in his own way. This attitude has widened the generation gap, which can never be filled. It is now destroying family life completely. The elders look after the children and make all sorts of sacrifices to bring them up. Naturally, they feel they have a right over them. They want their children to follow their instructions as they have certain expectations from them. But the children, when they grow up, want a complete freedom in their thoughts and actions and unfortunately their thoughts and actions are just opposite to those expected by the elders. They revolt when any kind of restrictions are imposed on them. Consequently, the family breaks up and everything gets ruined. In India, we are yet in the initial stages, but the gap has appeared and it is going to grow bigger day by day. So it is not only the responsibility of the younger but also of the elders to fill this gap with their love, affection and trust. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Water Resource Management ( Wrm ) Introduction: Water is extremely vital for all forms of life, from microorganisms to humans to ecosystems alike. Water is a key factor in driving economic and social development within countries, impacting agriculture, energy, sanitation and health, gender equality etc (World Bank, 2014). For these reasons humans have invested an abundant amount of time, labor, and money into perfecting water infrastructures in an effort to provide water services for populations worldwide. Water resource management (WRM) goal is to manage and allocate water resources in a manner that satisfies the demand of domestic, agricultural and industrial water sectors. Often left out of the equation is the water demand needed for ecosystem sustainability. WRM ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ecosystem Services: Aquatic ecosystems play a pivotal role for living organisms, providing life supporting services, along with valuable goods and services for society. Aquatic ecosystems are able to decrease flood damages by storing season floodwaters. They supply humans with water for domestic, agricultural, and industrial sectors and aid in recharging groundwater supplies, which is an essential source of potable water. Furthermore, the recharging of groundwater aids in drought mitigation. Freshwater ecosystems play a similar role to water treatment plants in that they filter out pollutants and purify water. They support a variety of plant and animal life, which ultimately creates a robust food chain, supporting human and wildlife consumption. Wetlands reduce greenhouse gas emissions by storing carbon dioxide rather than releasing it into the atmosphere. As mentioned above, ecosystems help mitigate water related disasters. Aquatic ecosystems provide nutrients to estuaries, river deltas, and maintain soil fertility. Additionally, by delivering freshwater, freshwater ecosystems are able to maintain salinity balances within estuaries (Postel, 2008; SRWP, 2007; GWP, n.d.). Water Demand for Ecosystem/Environmental Flow Requirements: Aquatic ecosystems rely on water to survive and if the amount of water they rely on dwindles, the ecosystem becomes negatively impacted and the services they provide will ... • 4. White Collar Crime And Organized Crime Introduction: This paper explores white collar crime and elaborates on the types of organized crimes through the analysis of case studies. Furthermore, I will also discuss the differences and similarities between professional crime and organized crime. White collar crime is the use of deceptive acts to solely benefit oneself, often leaving many victimized. Within this paper, I explain which theories best clarify why individuals partake in these criminal behaviors, and preventative methods. In addition, I will state my opinion on the severity of white collar crime and organized crime. Description: According to Sutherland, the definition of white collar crime is violations of the law committed by a person of high social status within the course of their otherwise respectable occupation, business, or profession . Within this definition Sutherland places a significant amount of emphasis on a few key words. The first key word is of high social status, which excludes those individuals who are of middle class and lower echelons. Secondly, the deception must occur within the business setting. White collar crime has a damaging impact on the social morale because it causes individuals to lose trust in financial institutions, which sends negative images to the middle and lower class. Without the use of investing, it creates a hindrance to the growth of the economy. Moreover, many of those victimized do not know they were taken advantage of, and can those their life savings due to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Evolution Of Sharks Essay Amongst the many living creatures of the aquatic world lurks an evolutionary advanced species called Selachimorpha, commonly known as Sharks. Sharks are the most dominantly feared creatures of the marine world. Although they are perceived as a threat to humans, these animals keep marine organisms in check. Sharks have developed a unique physical structure that enables them to efficiently hunt prey while simultaneously playing a vital role in balancing the ecosystem. These apex predators fall under the classification class Chondrichthyes, which is comprised of cartilaginous skeleton. Chondrichthyes is sub divided into two classes; the Elasmobranchii, composed of sharks, skates and rays, and the Holocephali ( Shark Taxonomy 8). As we move further down the scientific classification, identifying these similar looking creatures become more difficult. Their order is separated into two super orders, which are the extinct Cladoselachimorph and the Euselachii; composed of 12 orders of which only nine are amongst us today (9). Many scientists believe that sharks descended from an eyeless, finless, and boneless leaf shaped fish and that they came to existence at around 400 million years ago ( Shark Evolution 1). Documented fossil records show that there were over 3,000 types of sharks and may have existed at the same period of time (Jones, The Epic History of Sharks ). The reason it is difficult to discover them all is due to the rotting of the cartilaginous bone structure ( Shark ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Concepts In Inception Inception Inception was released in 2010, and the film was given a slightly futuristic atmosphere, but a specific date was not clarified. The main character, Dom Cobb (Leonardo DiCaprio), possesses a skill that allows him to access the subconscious minds of sleeping people to observe their dreams and acquire information found only there. His behavior and practices are deviant in that they are abnormal, illegal in that world, and generally frowned upon; he also teaches others to do what he does extraction. His partner, Arthur (Joseph Gordon Levitt), is also an extractor, as well as his only student at the time, Ariadne (Ellen Page) (IMDB.com). In Inception, the film displays the apparent reality of the Thomas Theorem If men define situations as real, they are real in their consequences (Thomas, W.I., Thomas, D.S.) (Thomas). Cobb and his team create realities so as to collect vital, secret information they would not otherwise have access to, and in those realities, are levels. More dreams, dreams within dreams. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Every action made has consequences in multiple realities. A good example of this is when Saito (Ken Watanabe) (IMDB.com) is shot in the second level of three dreams, and he eventually starts bleeding in the outside world, where a dream is just a dream, not a subconscious to be exploited. Eventually, Saito dies from his injuries, and is sent into Limbo, a place where the subconscious is never ending, and itself is unaware of the difference of this reality and the real world, thus the person in Limbo is indefinitely ... • 7. Karen Sternheimer Media Violence Does Not Cause Youth... Over the last decade, media has taken over the majority of the world through twenty four hour coverage, various television shows and movies, and endless advertisements. There is no way to escape the media, especially the younger generations. Because of the constant coverage, some violence may be covered on the news, in video games, or entertainment. Some believe that the violence brainwashes younger generations and causes them to mirror that cruelty. In Media Violence Does Not Cause Youth Violence, Karen Sternheimer argues the opposite. Through appeals and strong premises, Sternheimer wrote a sound and valid argument that only has a few minor faults. To structure and maintain the momentum of her piece, Sternheimer utilized residue reasoning ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In her introduction, she ensure her readers that she is not biased by revealing that she has been accused of only challenging the media violence connection because [she] is secretly funded by the entertainment industry (Sternheimer, 2010) but she assures that [she] is not (Sternheimer, 2010). It is obvious she is trying to build her ethos by saying this but with her background as a lecturer in the Department of Sociology, she does not need to address this. Beginning with this puts a damper on her ethos until she established them again with the presented assumptions and rebuttals. Another problem found was one assumption made: we seldom hear public outcry about the declining morals of adults (Sternheimer, 2010). Not everyone has the same morals, so to say that adult morals are declining is not sound; someone, who has different morals, may not see it as that much of a decrease. Also, there are many counterarguments that the other side could come back with to prove that there is public outcry about the violence committed by adults. Overall, though, Sternheimer s argument is well thought out and skillfully ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

True rats are members of the genus Rattus, the most important of which to humans are the black rat, Rattus rattus, and the brown rat, R. norvegicus. These rats are bred to be genetically prone to diabetes, the same metabolic disorder found among humans. In 1895, Clark University in Worcester, Massachusetts (United States) established a population of domestic white brown rats to study the effects of diet and for other physiological studies. Over the years, rats have been used in many experimental studies, which have added to our understanding of genetics, diseases, the effects of drugs, and other topics that have provided a great benefit for the health and wellbeing of humankind. Laboratory rats have also proved valuable in psychological studies of learning and other mental processes (Barnett 2002). A 2007 study found rats to possess metacognition, a mental ability previously only found in humans and some primates.[1][2] On January, 2008, Doris Taylor, director, Center for Cardiovascular Repair, University of Minnesota used the core procedure of decellularisation to let hearts from animal cadavers beat by infusing live cells. The whole atmosphere, they carried it, the humidity, the monsoons, the stink of fungus and decay, all of it, they carried gravity, (O Brien 114). The Things They Carried follows army men as they endure the hardships of battle. Through the story, we are introduced to the characters by what they carry with them. Each object reveals continuously more about the characters that ultimately brings us to an understanding of who they are. The use of objects in this story relates well with my life. By looking at what I carry, it can be determined who I am. May it be a driver s license, style choice, or even the way one carries himself; it can be determined (at least roughly) who someone is. It may seem absurd to carry a pebble while at war... what s the use, right? However, he carried more than just a pebble; he carried his love for Martha through that seemingly useless rock. I too carried an object like that pebble: something seemingly useless. I acquired a green wrist band while with my good friend. This was one of the last times I spoke to her. From that day on, I wore the green wrist band every minute of every hour for two years. Although I cared very much for her, the feelings only went in one direction. Every time I looked down at the green band it reminded me of her. One day the green wrist band finally snapped... but I wasn t sad. When it gave out it was almost like closure for me. Research from Israel shows that when more time is given off to new fathers, the more their brain changes to better suit them to be a parent (Thompson). Being around the new child and caring for them allows the father to share responsibilities that a baby brings along. Having time to dedicate solely to the child gives the father the ability to bond with their baby. A study by two Columbia University professors discovered that fathers who are given time off (two or more weeks) are more involved with their child s lives in nine months, proving that better parental relationships come from paid paternity leave ( Columbia News ). Paternity leave also creates a foundation of trust between father and child, and relieves the pressure put on mothers. When fathers are around immediately after the baby is born, mothers are not forced to do all the work around the house while caring for a newborn. The two week (or more) time frame when fathers are around would allow for a period where both parents can get settled and adapt to taking care of the child. In Sweden, to qualify for government benefits, the father is required to take off two months from work before the child becomes eight years old. More research has proven that for every month that fathers took leave to take care of their child, the income of mothers increased about 7% (Johansson, Elly Ann). Thus, paternity leave not only benefits the newborn child, but also mothers. This paid leave can give new parents the ability to get to know their child and adapt to the new responsibilities. There are a multitude of countries that provide paid paternity leave, and the United States is one of nine counties who does not have this option. There is no reason that fathers should not have an allotted time to spend at home with their child and spouse, and so this country should mandate the option of giving paid paternity ... These are the cases with Diary of Anne Frank. and HItler youth. Lying is one way people deal with conflict. Why wouldn t it be. An example would be from the Diary of Anne Frank. The Diary is in the point of view of a young girl and her family hiding from the Nazis. She details her experiences in the annex as well as her thoughts and feelings of herself and others around her. Essentially, Anne and her family lie to the government and neighbors. There have even been many times when the Nazis have lied. They have lied to Jews by telling them they would be taking showers and killed them. Lying seems normal in situations of conflict. People may lie to save themselves or to save others. People may also lie to achieve a sort of goal, whether it be good or bad. It seems to be a very common way of responding to conflict. Deception falls into a similar, if not the same, category of lying. It is a trick or scheme to get what you want. Again the example of this would be when Anne and her family hid in the annex. • 18. Sickle Cells Anaemia And The Sickle Cell Trait UNDERSTANDING SICKLE CELL ANAEMIAAND THE SICKLE CELL TRAIT Introduction Sickle Cell Anaemia is the commonest of most severe form of Sickle Cell Disease. SCD is a collective term for hereditary haemoglobinopathies caused by the inheritance of a mutated haemoglobin allele (sickle haemoglobin HbS) in the erythrocytes. The HbS mutation is caused by a Valine to Glutamic acid substitution at the 6th amino acid of the β globin chain. (Harmon et al., 2012)The first known case of SCD in the western world was recorded in 1910 in the United States, when a 20 year old black student from Grenada presented abnormal erythrocytes upon examination of his blood. This can now be recognised as the major characteristic of SCD where the erythrocytes assume the shape of a sickle when deprived of oxygen in vivo hence the name of the disease. Although SCD is most prevalent in individuals of African ancestry, the disease is also existent in people from Meditterenean Europe,Hispanic, Midle Eastern and Indian Asian backgrounds. The explanation of the regional specificity of SCD is the correlation between the geographical locations where Falciparum Malaria was once endemic and high incidents of Haemoglobin S mutations in those particular regions. However, the occurrence of SCD disease in regions that have no known history of Falcipurum Malaria can be attributed to migration. In Britain for example, the first incidents of SCD were recorded after the postwar immigration of the non white population ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This passage is an excellent example of the theme of the hypocrisy of religion in Moby Dick. Before Stubb calls on Fleece, Ishmael compares the actions of the shark to the actions of man. Fleece sullenly obeys, and tells the sharks to stop dad dam noise dare (___). The irony begins here when Stubb steps and tells Fleece that he s doing it all wrong, that you don t convert sinners by swearing. When we speak of social institutions then we are talking about invented structures that exist in all societies, and they are made of common rules that generate rights, duties, and privileges. They are also organized through established values, morals, and networks. They emerge to solve problems of human interactions, and they change with the increasing complexity of human societies. Some of the evidence that I observed at the Billy Goat Trail from the Acadian Orogeny was the Gneiss rocks that where hidden underneath the large boulders where we stopped for lunch. The rock Gneiss requires high pressure and high heat because the rock has U shaped banding due to the pressure and black and white striations from the heat. (2) Another observation from the trip that supports the Acadian Orogeny is the Lamprophyre dikes that cut across the Meta Greywacke and are found in both sides of the Potomac River. The Lamprophyre dikes are younger than the Meta Greywacke since they cut across them and since the dikes are made of basalt they can be dated back about 360 million years ago thus linking them to the Acadian Orogeny. Also the dikes weather out faster than the rock around them. (3) After the Acadian Orogeny the continent of North America collided with Africa which was at the time of Pangea. We argued that the articulation of forced conversion as a paramount goal of the State s ontological aspirations relies upon a misunderstanding apropos of the alleged divine performativity of the Law. We then moved to The Turn and analysed the literary sublimation that Cervantes operates in Don Quixote I II apropos of the aforementioned political reality. In particular, we focused on the way Cervantes s ingenium relies upon the trope of conversion (literary sense) and on how its deployment helped Cervantes circumvent the inquisitorial censorship while suspending the reader s belief in the State s ontological tendency (and by extension, in forced conversion as the crowning policy of that ambition). As part of this task, we analyzed a multiplicity of semantic (featuring a symbolism linked to the countryside, the military, the economic, the religious, the political, the professional fields, to name but a few) and non semantic displacements (related to the materiality of language as such) across forms (novel and theatre, but also poetry) and genres (epic, comedy, tragedy, tragicomedy, realistic fiction, romance and satire)iv. (p.93) This vague image is later concretized in the form of Bilasia, the Bhil woman whom he finds an ideal combination of Otherness and the Self. Bilasia s exotic Otherness is clearly seen in her untamed beauty , her promiscuity and her obvious difference from the respectable wife, Meena. Yet, how is Bilasia an ideal other for Billy Biswas, the upper class Hindu? Perhaps this may be explained by the way tribals have generally been viewed as peripheral communities within the dominant Hindu fold. So while recognizing the tribal Otherness, the Hindu view also makes them accessible. Moreover, Bilasia has beauty albeit an untamed one and she belongs to the Bhil community, which has traditionally been seen as possessing many Rajput qualities, like valour, nobility etc. Incidentally, one may compare the account of Billy s life with that of Verrier Elwin, an Englishman who came to India as a Christian missionary in 1927. A few years later, varrier Elwin voluntarily gave up his ministry and decided to devote himself to the tribal people of India. He started living in the Chhattisgarh area, along with Shamrao Hivale. • 30. Metamorphosis 5-7 Of The Sermon At The Sermon On The Mount The New Testament of the Christian Bible has been believed, critiqued, scrutinized, and intensely studied since it came into existence. Men and women around the globe have argued and interpreted sections of the book in several different ways. Whereas the entire book rarely agrees with most people s ethical or spiritual values, portions of the book have become entwined with social and legal codes in the modern world. Chapters 5 7 of the book of Matthew, one of four gospel books that chronicle the life of Jesus, are commonly referred to at the Sermon on the Mount. This widely accepted passage inspires millions around the world and has done so for thousands of years. Naturally, some of the most historically significant human rights movements use ideas and concepts discussed by Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount regardless of their religious affiliation. Mahatma Gandhi, Martin Luther King, and Dietrich Bonheoffer, all implemented aspects of the sermon in their respective struggles against oppressive groups. This text, regardless of its origin, provides an exceptional ethical base and acts as an effective tool when applied to social movements. Mahatma Gandhi ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In these verses, Jesus explains that the suffering in the world will not last, and that those who strive for righteousness, mercy, and peace will receive eternal rewards in the kingdom of heaven. All three of these men can relate to verse 10 which reads, Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven (Matt. 5:10). A major reason these three men are celebrated is because all were killed fighting for righteousness. Gandhi and King each received bullets for their service to society, and Bonheoffer faced the noose at the hands of the Nazi regime. Miami dominated Washington in overall shooting and defense. This allowed them to pull away from Washington with at 26 to 4 scoring run in the fourth quarter. ( Saturday December 15, 2012, 2012) Commenting about the strong performance from the team s three superstars is Paul (2012) who observed, For the Heat (15 6), it was the perfect remedy after losing three of the past five games. It was also their chance for redemption, after falling to the Wizards (3 18) 105 101 on Dec. 4 in Washington. LeBron James led the Heat with 23 points, 10 rebounds and five assists while Dwyane Wade added 13 points and Chris Bosh had 12. The Heat led for most of the way behind strong play from their three superstars and a solid defensive effort. It was one of the few times they were able to produce a balanced scoring effort. Despite James leading the way again, they had four starters score in double figures. Miami took control in the early stages of the game and never trailed. A jumper by Wade made it 20 7 with 4:30 left in the first quarter. ( Saturday December 15, 2012, 2012) ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. Models Predictive Control For A Finite Time Horizon 4. Model predictive control MPC is a general term for computer control algorithms [10] that uses an outright process model to predict future response of the plant. An optimized input is determined by solving an open loop optimal control problem over a finite time horizon. The number of samples one looks forward is called the prediction horizon Np. While, number of samples that the optimal input is computed for is called the control horizon Nu. The complexity of the problem can be decreased by selecting a shorter control horizon than prediction horizon. From the calculated input signal only the first element is applied to the system. This can allows solving online the optimized control problem, where prediction error action and control input are minimized through a future horizon, possibility of subject to constraints on the manipulated inputs, outputs and states. Then, the optimization returns an optimal control sequence as input and the first input only from the sequence is used as input to the system. By the next sample interval, the total optimization approach repeated and the horizon shifted. This approach is used to allow indemnity for modeling error and future disturbance. Basic structure of model predictive control is shown in Fig. 2. Fig. 2 Basic structure of model predictive control In an MPC algorithm there are four important elements: 4.1. • 33. Fredrick Douglass Frederick Douglass tells his story in the Narrative of the Life of Fredrick Douglass, an American Slave. He was born as a slave; therefore, he uses his story to illustrate slavery and racism in the nineteenth century. In addition, Douglass describes his experience as a slave to portray his race, which has been treated cruelly by many white people. Also, Douglass uses his story as evidence for the abolishment of slavery. Within his story, there are three key incidents that affect Douglass s life and the reader s opinion of slavery: when Douglass learns to read and write, when he stands up to his cruel master, Covey, and finally the controversy surrounding the Christmas holiday. First, Douglass believes that education is a sharp sword to break the chains of slavery. Also, he figures that white men have the power to control African Americans as slaves by keeping slaves ignorant: If you teach that nigger (speaking ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Slaveholders allow their slaves to drink only during the Christmas holiday. Douglass explains the reason: I believe [the holidays] to be among the most effective means in the hands of the slaveholder in keeping down the spirit of insurrection (1049). Through this holiday, audiences realize that owners with education know how to rule slaves and control a slave s mind, by keeping them ignorant, hiding their identity, and making them lose their interest in freedom. Douglass also sees that the holidays are part and parcel of the gross fraud, wrong, and inhumanity of slavery (1049). The masters give slaves a brief time to enjoy Christmas at the end of year, but they will hold their slave for the rest of the year. He cannot stand for being defrauded by his owner; therefore, he becomes determined to fight for slaves freedom. By reading this story, readers feel sympathy for slaves and probably they will be anti slavery, which is one of Douglass purposes in publishing his life ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Greed And Obitivity In a society with too much greed and possessions can lead the world that is inhumane. People are never satisfied with what they currently have, they always desire for more or better than this or that person. Throughout history and literature, greed is a classic topic in human development that naturally affects many of our decisions. Of Course, people would agree that increase of possessions is a way to motivate us in order to reach a certain height of success. Greed doesn t mean you have a sin, it s just how the world works. There is an old saying, If you want something, work for it. Greed doesn t mean selfish, people just want to work toward their goals and increase their status in a cruel society that is full of judgemental people. Without greediness in our life, it would be like plain bread, without the peanut butter or the jam. One particular person in history that is well known for his ambitious action and power hungry was Hitler. Hitler used many of his tactics for people to vote for him motivational speech and make Germany better, this way people can follow Hitler. Once Hitler had abundance followers, he wanted to dictate people live and used violence against people who disobeyed his orders. I FACTS GK was a self employed sex worker. GK periodically stayed at the Drovers Rest Motel at Moranbah for the purposes of sex work. Mrs Hartley, director of Dovedeen Pty Ltd and manager of the motel, denied GK, the respondent, further accommodation because she was aware GK was performing sex work. Mrs Hartley advised her that she would have to stay somewhere else. GK acknowledged that the refusal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The inclusion on the Act of the definition prevents such an interpretation, due to the fact that it is only a person s status as a sex worker that is protected. There are four attributes that involve activity , namely breastfeeding , political activity , trade union activity and religious activity .9 The Court compared the definition of lawful sexual activity with these four, and found that only religious activity is defined in the Act. Such a definition implies that religious activity has categories of activity or non activity, whereas lawful sexual activity has no such definition and is defined only in the form of status . Hence, it may be concluded that the attribute cannot be extended beyond status as a lawfully employed sex worker 10 to include the category of activity the engaging in prostitution on the premises. Thus the Appeal Tribunal erred in this regard. In applying the test in section 10(1)11 one must identify the characteristics relevant in the comparator. The court applied Purvis,12 and state that circumstances that are the same or not materially different 13 include all of the objective features which surround the actual or intended treatment 14 of the claimer. It was viewed that the Tribunal identified the incorrect comparator due to the notion that a person who intends to use a room for purposes of prostitution is not necessarily a person without the ... • 36. The Importance Of A Management Information System A management information system is a computerized method of improving the efficiency of the daily activities of businesses as well as improving the decision making process. A management information system can show the status of a business conditions and whether or not these conditions are improving or not. The decision making process can only be effective if the information is updated regularly by those with authority to access this information. There are very few management information systems that actually work effectively, most not even meeting expectations. Many management information systems are designed under the basis that managers have a lack of relevant information, while actually they are receiving too much irrelevant ... However, even when given perfect information there are too many variables for even an experienced individual to give an optimal solution for the problem or objective at hand. Therefore, to be successful, you must determine how well managers are able to use the information that they are given. There are a couple more reasons why MIS tend to fail and meet the expectations of the managers that are using them. One of these reasons is interdepartmental communication. The author of this specific article believes that when MIS provide up to date information on what each department in a business is doing, it negatively affects the performance of the business, contrary to what most believe. This was implemented into MIS because designers thought that with interdepartmental communication, decisions can be made more effectively and efficiently, which does sound right at first. However the author, gives an example of how this system is ineffective and should be abandoned. He mentions a real life example involving a merchandising department and a purchasing department in a store. The merchandising department gives the purchasing department an exact figure on how many items they should buy to be re sold to consumers, based off of a price demand curve. The purchasing department being slightly pessimistic and not wanting to pay as much for the merchandise orders a fewer number of items than what the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
