Working Memory Experiment
Working memory is defined as memory that is involved in our everyday tasks. It is the active and
temporary representation of information that is maintained for the short term in one s mind to help
decide what to do next (Gluck, 344). Working memory is a very pivotal part of our lives, because it is
this memory that helps us stay on our feets. Working memory works in different ways with every
individual. It has its own processes and there are significant working memory differences in every age
group from younger adults to older adults. This memory can also be called short term memory. This
paper will investigate the differences of working memory between younger and older adults, use
articles to show how various experiments explain the deficits of working memory in older adults, and
show how working memory is strongly needed in mathematical tasks with schoolchildren. Let s start
with some background information about working memory and how it is utilized in everyday life.
Working memory refers to a brain system, or mental workspace, responsible for temporarily storing
and manipulating information. It is different from short term memory, where information is stored and
recalled in the same ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There was an associative deficit for older adults in the short term and long term intervals. Using only
short term intervals, experiment 2 utilized mixed and blocked test designs to examine the effect of test
event salience. Blocking the test did not attenuate the age related associative deficit seen in the mixed
test blocks. Finally, an age related associative deficit was found in Exp. 3, under both sequential and
simultaneous presentation conditions. Even while accounting for some methodological issues, the
associative deficit of older adults is evident in short term/working memory.

Argument Against Solitary Confinement
The concern of the effects solitary confinement has on those who experience it has also called up the
opinions of religious figures. Pope Francis condemned solitary confinement and all capital punishment
sometime in October 2014. Roughly translated by Jean Casella on solitarywatch.com the Pope said,
One form of torture is sometimes applied by imprisonment in maximum security prisons. With the
motive of providing greater security to the community or special treatment for certain categories of
prisoners, its main feature is none other than the isolation. As demonstrated by studies carried out by
different human rights bodies, the lack of sensory stimuli, the complete lack of communication and the
lack of contact with other human beings, causes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The new rules also dictate that the longest a prisoner can be punished with solitary confinement for a
first offense is 60 days, rather than the current maximum of 365 days. The president s reforms apply
broadly to the roughly 10,000 federal inmates serving time in solitary confinement, though there are
only a handful of juvenile offenders placed in restrictive housing each year. The Washington Post also
writes what this reform sets out to do, While Obama is leaving the details of policy implementation to
agency officials, the Justice Department s report includes 50 guiding principles that all federal
correctional facilities must now follow. They include increasing the amount of time inmates placed in
solitary can spend outside their cells, housing prisoners in the least restrictive setting necessary to
ensure their safety and that of others, putting inmates who need to be in protective custody in less
restrictive settings and developing policies to discourage putting inmates in solitary during the last 180
days of their

Sacred Heart College s Year 12 Biology Class
Wednesday 18 February 2015, Sacred Heart College s Year 12 biology class took a field trip to Siren s
Rock , located between Island Bay and Owhiro Bay on Wellington s South Coast. The pattern which
was being investigated across the rocky shore was zonation. Zonation is a community pattern that
occurs along an environmental gradient and is caused by the change in an environmental factor
changing the distribution of species which results in species being present in zones or bands. This
report will focus on the relationship between, and how this affects the zonation pattern on the shore of,
the two species Cellana denticulata; commonly known as the Denticulate Limpet, and Syprachiton
pelliserpentis; the Snakeskin Chiton. Cellana denticulata The first species studied was the Cellana
denticulata. This species is a true limpet from the marine gastropod mollusc group and is the most
commonly found on Siren s Rock. Denticulate limpets have a cone shaped shell which is covered in
ridges to increase the surface area to radiate heat therefore increase cooling for the organism. It grips
to rocks with its fleshy, muscular foot, and also grinds the edge of their shell into the rock so they fit
perfectly together. In order to avoid dessication, the limpets pull down their shell and clamp over a
pocket of water while still submerged so they can retain the water during low tide. C. denticulata are
also homing limpets; this means that they have a specific home mark which they live at and

What Is Human Nature In The Lottery By Shirley Jackson
Readers connections to The Lottery by Shirley Jackson establish that human nature in the modern era
is flawed; eventually, resulting in fallacious and faulty actions. Faulty actions and aspects of human
nature are related to outdated traditions and Old Man Warner. The theory of evolutionary psychology
applies to the situation and is essential to explaining some of the reasons for this occurrence.
Human nature has developed over the timeline of our existence and a theory of explaining human
nature is through evo psych. This theory explains mental and psychological traits that humans have
gained due to natural selection (Science Daily, 2016). The behavior shown in this story is what would

Human nature can be seen as a culmination of every survival mechanism obtained through natural
selection. They can be added on but never deleted, the mechanisms are carried in our genetic
instructions. Many survival mechanisms become obsolete and are no longer needed to survive in the
world like wisdom teeth which many humans remove because of their negative effects. The difference
between wisdom teeth, a biological mechanism, and behavioral patterns is that behavioral patterns are
exceptionally difficult to notice. Old Man Warner is representative of a survival mechanism which no
longer serves a purpose. Old Man Warner being an Old Man likely doesn t serve a purpose in the
community other than to perpetuate an outdated tradition: a large portion of his dialogue also makes
little sense further insinuating this notion. The lottery is a portrayal of the faulty actions and events
that take place due to outdated survival mechanisms: they do not make sense, hurt society and take
away from each individual because of the time and life

The History Of Israel
Israel, a country of only 8.38 million people, has been thriving since it s independence in the year
1948. It runs as a vibrant democracy and the Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, has successfully
lead a coalition government consisting of right leaning and religious parties. This 8,019 square mile
country, has a modern market economy with a thriving high technology sector that attracts
considerable foreign investment (heritage.org, 1). Israel is surrounded by much larger and hateful
countries towards Israel, leading to multiple wars including the 2006 war against Hezbollah in
Lebanon, the 2008 2009, 2012, and 2014 wars against Hamas in Gaze, and furthermore, the constant

This is a very useful tool when you are trying to comparing countries to each other because it shows
the relative performance of these countries (investopedia.com). Comparing Israel to other countries, in
2016 with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Israel was ranked number 24 at $37,262, and with
the World Bank in 2016 as well, it was ranked as number 22 at $37,293 (Economy of Israel). All of
the GDP are converted into United States currency to even out the playing field and make it easier to

with it is that it doesn t take into account the differences in cost of living as well as the fluctuations in
the exchange rates of a country s currency (wikipedia.org). Within the entire Middle East, Israel has
the highest GDP, just about doubling Iran who is the second highest at $12,900 (Economy in the
Middle East). By breaking down the percentages of the GDP in Israel, it shows that most of the GDP
is towards services at 64.7%, then 31.2% in industry, and a small 2.5% in agriculture (Economy of
Israel). A major contributor to Israel s economy is trade. The value of the total exports as well as
imports together equals to amount 59% of the total GDP (heritage.org).

Analysis Of George Orwell s Narrator In Shooting An Elephant
Fitting In: Orwell s Narrator in Shooting an Elephant
Since the publication of George Orwell s, Shooting an Elephant in 1936 many philosophers have
engaged in conversation about humanity, violence, politics, power, dominance, race, culture and
principles. Orwell was in fact a genius plain and simple, though in a very complicated way (Firchow
94). George Orwell brings you into his essay with lucid and vivid details the entire way starting from
the setting, I remember that it was a cloudy, stuffy morning at the beginning of the rains, (25) to the
characters attitudes towards one another, if a European woman went through the bazaars alone
somebody would probably spit betel juice over her dress (23). The essay starts with the narrator,
whom we assume is Orwell, a white man working as a sub divisional police officer in Moulmein,
Burma where the British have a colonized. Being English, the narrator Orwell is hated by many of the
natives, When a nimble Burman tripped me up on the football field and the referee (another Burman)
looked the other way, the crowd yelled with hideous laughter (Orwell 23). One morning, Orwell
receives a call about an elephant ram sacking the town and even killing a native Burman. Ultimately
forcing Orwell into a dilemma of his own morality of what he ought to do and trying not to let down
the immense crowd of yellow faces (26). Orwell shoots the elephant essentially killing him. The

Woolworths Case Study
Woolworths Case Analysis
Wandeli Loubser 15301648
BACKGROUND OF WOOLWORTHS
Woolworths began life in what had been the dining room of the old Royal Hotel in Cape Town on a
sunny October morning in 1931 as a clothing store and was founded by Max Sonnenberg.
In 1934 Woolworths opened a second branch in Durban, followed in 1935 by branches in Port
Elizabeth and Johannesburg. Shareholders who bought Woolworths stock in 1936 at 75c a share would
have seen that stock grow to many, many times its original price as the Woolworths brand has become
an entrenched icon in South African retail. Since 1936 the product range had expanded from clothing
and shoes to include food, cosmetics, gift items, accessories, mobile phones, an extensive range of ...

All of these clothing stores cater for more or less the same target market whereas Woolworths and
Edgars have more adolescent ranges. In terms of price they Woolworths would compete with stores
like Foschini and Truworths.
In the food industry Woolworths focus on having quality food everyday and all the time. They are
known for their fresh produce and pride themselves on their cold chain concept where food is always
stored between 5 and 0 degrees Celsius. They typically compete against supermarkets such as
Shoprite, Spar and Pick n Pay obviously has a wider variety of groceries.
Woolworths also has a coffee shop in certain store outlets where they use products from their food
market to prepare the meals. They would obviously compete against nearby restaurants in the
shopping centre and in the nearby area.
PERSONAL EXPERIENCE WITH THE DIFFERENT WOOLWORTHS STORES
I frequently visit the Woolworths branches located in Paarl, Tygervalley and Eikestad Mall. All of
them contains a food market, but only Paarl mall contains a coffee shop.
All though the layout of the stores are pretty much the same, female wear on the left, male on the right
shoes and accessories in the middle and the food store and coffee shop is located at the back, they all
differ in the unique way the store owner wants them to.
The variety and assortment in merchandise also differs. Seeing that Tygervalley s branch is the biggest

Analysis Of The Teenage Consumer By Life Magazine
Teenagers and their parents spend 10 billion dollars a year on essential needs. Teenagers alone were
becoming more of their own generation, spending more than most adults, and were becoming a prime
target for advertisement. In 1959, the Life Magazine published an article called The Teenage
Consumer that shared how these young adults made such an impact on the economy. In this article, the
author believed that the more teenagers would soon be living that more expensive lifestyle and that in
1970, when the teenage life population expands from its present 18 million to 28 million, the market
may be worth $20 billion. . Life magazine wrote the article when teenage consumption was rising

A lot of adults back in the 1950s wouldn t have believed the stats shown in the articles because it was
never seen before that teens are such an important factor. The article would be more believable if the
author would have used credible sources. If the author had shown where the stats came from and used
more than one group to get stats from the article would have been more effective. There is no
distinguished evidence of the different social classes in the US. It doesn t show how much the upper
class teens consume; how much the middle class teens consume or how much the lower class teens
consume. The article just says teens it doesn t say which teens, it doesn t talk about what class or how
rich or poor teens consume differently back then. Parents and grandparents really spoil some kids due
to how much money they make each year which allows them to get whatever they want whenever they
want. The article sort of takes a shot at how much teens consume each year. It says that most teens
consume more than adults do and the adults are the ones making the money in the house. The article
says that Today teen agers surround themselves with a fantastic array of garish and often expensive
baubles and amusements (Courtesy of Life magazine). The author says that teens just want to buy
things because they think they look cool and they think it will make them

Television Genre And Style Of Mockumentaries Essay
Within the realm of television today, many of the more popular comedies have a very specific style of
production and way of capturing scenes. This style is often referred to as the Mockumentary style and
can be seen within examples like The Office and Park and Recreation. The popularity of these shows
alone have inspired many other different spin offs and takes on this specific style of comedy, but these
shows shouldn t be credited as the founders of the mockumentary style. In fact, for television shows
the mockumentary s history goes farther back by a couple of decades. This paper will attempt to
discover the answers to three main questions regarding the television genre and style of
mockumentaries. Firstly, the definition of a mockumentary and a general understanding of the stylistic
similarities must be examined before the history of the mockumentary is to be explored. Next, the
historical background will be considered as well as the cultural significance and impact of the shows
that emulated this mockumentary style. Lastly, the paper will look to the current cultural contexts and
the social impacts of the popular, modern day televisions shows that incorporate these styles. Through
the analysis of the mockumentary style in the combination of the historical lens and the definitional
lens, modern day shows that utilize this subgenre will be better understood as well as their impacts on
society itself.
According to Oxford Dictionary, a mockumentary can simply be

The Reflection Of My Writing On Technology And Technology
Most of the time when I am writing a paper, I do not have a choice on what I am writing. But when I
do get to choose my topic, then I can write about something that I enjoy and feel passionate about. In
my experience with writing, I have chosen many topics. But most of them I probably did not enjoy
writing about that particular topic. There are very few papers that I have written where I really enjoyed
writing. But the paper that I am going to talk about was different for me because I wanted people to
understand my point of view on the subject. And so, I felt compelled to write about the topic that I
chose for this particular essay that I wrote in 9th grade. It is about technology, and its role and effect
on society.
The paper I wrote on technology was an essay. Like most essays, it had 5 paragraphs. An introduction
paragraph, three body paragraphs, and a conclusion paragraph. My teacher also had me write an
outline to the essay, to help me stay organized in my thoughts. In the introduction paragraph I
summarize my main points. I chose three points about technology that I would mention in each of the
body paragraphs. In my first body paragraph, I talk about how technology has affected education and
the way people can learn. In my second body paragraph, I talk about how technology has changed the
way we communicate with people. And in the third paragraph, I talk about how technology has
changed the way we entertain ourselves.
I chose to write about technology partially because at the time that I was writing that essay, a close
family member in my household was experiencing health issues when they were around technology.
And so I had to live with very little to no technology for about a year. And that probably sounds like I
was living in a different time era, and sometimes it felt like that. It was really a drastic time for me and
my family. Because in this world, technology is used for everything. And so we had to adapt to not
being with it when we were home. It was a really different experience. But it happened for a reason.
And I learned how to live without constant technology.
Technology has changed education for the better. People have so much knowledge at their fingertips
when they can access

The Importance Of Conscription In The Military Service
Should a government have the power to compel its citizens into military service? Support your view.
For a government to be sustainable it must have the power to compel its citizens into military service.
The most important resource in the military is men because much of military weaponry isn t
autonomous. People are always in short supply, and especially in the modern age where the horrors of
war are clear visible and easy to access volunteers normally cannot supply enough manpower.
Conscription in various forms was necessary during the Civil War, WWI, WWII, the Vietnam War,
and Korean War to support the military in what sometimes became deeply unpopular conflicts. While
conscription laws definitely should have certain exemptions, these laws are necessary in times of war,
and thus the government must have the power to create and enforce them.
Why do you think that the United States government allowed substitutes to be hired, or commutation
paid? The U.S. government almost certainly permitted substitutions and commutation payments in an
effort to prevent the socially and economically powerful upper class from getting cold feet. Business
magnates and industry leaders naturally might be angered or fear a war that could result in their
conscription (and an inevitable decrease in their standard of living as draftees), and the war effort
would quickly fall apart without their support. In addition, there likely was a purely selfish motive as
what distinguished Senator would want

A Big Role In The World Of Statistics Is Played By What
A big role in the world of statistics is played by what is known as variables. For a clearer
understanding Siddharth Kalla explains, In statistics, variables are central to any analysis and they
need to be understood well by the researcher...In statistics, variables can contain a value or description
of what is being studied in the sample or population. (Kalla, 2011, para. 1 2). Meaning, a variable can
essentially be anything that can be analyzed because it has the ability to be counted. Take for instance
a family of individuals, there is a point of reference in which they are deemed family and within the
population of that family some individuals might be of different age, gender, height, weight, etc. each
of those things are variables ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Given what is known now about linear correlation and linear regression, it can be further understood
how bivariate data, within a sample population could be figured. For instance, if one wanted to
determine the relationship between a math classes test scores and study/prep time, variable one would
be the test scores and variable two is the hours each student spends studying and prepping for the test.
The bivariate data, since it is the data of the students would be the test scores and time spent studying
and prepping (Study.com, 2017). When reviewing the bivariate data and comparing the variables to
one another the numbers indicate that the students with the highest test scores have spent more hours
studying and prepping and those will little study and prep time scored lower on their tests. This
indicates that a correlation between the variables could be measured using linear correlation and linear
regression. The values in this example would be measured by initially determining which of the
variables are independent and dependent. The independent variable in this case would be something
that the student has control over, which is the amount of studying and prep time devoted to the test, so
that would be called the x variable, as the students have control over how much time is allotted to
studying. The dependent variable in the example would be the test scores, deemed y as it is

The Importance of George Wilson in The Great Gatsby Essay
The Importance of George Wilson in The Great Gatsby
F. Scott Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby is a superbly written and an intrinsically captivating novel that
deals with the decline of the American Dream and how vapid the upper class is. To illustrate and
capture the essence of these themes, Fitzgerald uses characters Gatsby, who epitomizes the actual
American Dream, and Daisy, who is based on the ideal girl. Yet, as these characters grasp the topics
Fitzgerald wants to convey, there is something inherently like missing from the story as a whole. To
fill this void, Fitzgerald utilizes minor characters as a means to move the plot along, develop
characters further, and build upon the themes present in the novel. One such ... Show more content on

The paradox here is that Tom is, in a sense, George himself as Tom s wife, Daisy, is in the process of
being taken away from him.
As seen with the aforementioned example, Wilson also plays a role that involves parallelism. His
situation parallels Tom s, as both have their wives being stolen. His situation parallels Gatsby s in both
their idealization of Myrtle and Daisy, respectively. Both of these patterns serve to emphasize the
character flaws in Tom and Gatsby and ultimately in the superficial lifestyle presented in the novel.
While all previous cases of Wilson have been employed as a means of further developing characters.
Complementing this role, Wilson also plays a noteworthy part in plot development. Following the
death of Myrtle, who Daisy, in fact, killed, Wilson learns of Myrtle s affair. However, through his own
odd logic, Wilson comes to believe that Myrtle was running out to see her lover, when in fact she was
running away from Wilson himself.
`Beat me! he heard her cry. `Throw me down and beat me you dirty little coward! A moment later she

D Holbach Free Will Essay
The arguments presented by D Holbach and Hobart contain many of the same premises and opinions
regarding the human mind, but nonetheless differ in their conclusion on whether we have free will. In
this paper, I will explain how their individual interpretations of the meaning of free will resulted in
having contrary arguments.
Both philosophers begin by establishing that the soul, or self, is a reflection of the person that includes
their characteristics, motives, and traits. Therefore, when they consider an event of free will it is
perfectly acceptable to include the personality of the subject involved.
However, the critical point in where they differ is with their interpretation of what it means to have
free will. To D Holbach, this implies treating man as a free agent who s thoughts and actions and
independent from external causes. To him, this implies that man must have greater strength than the
entire of nature and results in a truly unnatural being. On the other hand, Hobart derives the meaning
of free will from the word freedom , and concludes that someone who has the power act freely has
free will. As a result, he concludes that a person has free will if there is an alternative action that they
have the power for, even if it is not taken. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For Hobart, the cause is independent a person has free will if they can will either this or that in such a
way where if that event were to take place, they would be successful. On the other hand, D Holbach

would not be motivated to any other choice at the given time and does not have free will. Even though
they are like minded in their interpretation of the self, they still reached contrary conclusions due to
their separate definitions of free

Reaction Paper On The Underground Railroad
Have you wondered about how the African American slaves got their freedom? In the video, The
Underground Railroad, we see the struggles they experienced to get freedom. I feel like this video was
very good and it made me realize how grateful I should be living in the 21st century and appreciate
history because without history I wouldn t know how people got their freedom, how people came into
places, and in general how the world is what it is. The underground railroad is not a literal railroad, but
a name for a 200 year long struggle of breaking free from slavery in America and gaining your basic
human rights. Living as a slave back then was miserable, torturous, and in general a nightmare. The
slaves couldn t even think about doing something for themselves as it was all about helping the white
people on their farms. Slavery was a core belief of America and a sacred privilege for the whites. If
you take slavery away, America wouldn t feel like America anymore. There were slaves in the all 13
colonies and even in Canada, but in the 1800s a lot of them became anti slavery, so the South was
where we had a lot more slaves in relation to the North. The South had many crops and plantations
which in turn called for a large number of slaves to maintain it, increasing demand in the South. In the

School, conducted a study a year after the repeal of DADT. The research group wanted to discover
what impacts the repeal has done to the military and according to their findings they concluded: (1)
The repeal of DADT has had no overall negative impact on military readiness or its component
dimensions, including cohesion, recruitment, retention, assaults, harassment or morale. (2) A
comparison of 2011 pre repeal and 2012 post repeal survey data shows that service members reported
the same level of military readiness after DADT repeal as before it. (3) Even in those units that
included openly LGB service members, and that consequently should have been the most likely to
experience a drop in cohesion as a result of repeal, cohesion did not decline after the new policy of
open service was put into place. In fact, greater openness and honesty resulting from repeal seem to
have promoted increased understanding, respect and acceptance. (4) Recruitment was unaffected by
the repeal of DADT. In an era when enlistment standards are tightening, service wide recruitment has
remained robust. (5) Retention was unaffected by the repeal of DADT. There was no mass exodus of
military members as a result of repeal, and there were only two verifiable resignations linked to the
policy change, both military chaplains. Service members were as likely to say that they plan to re
enlist after DADT repeal as

This reticle is different from your standard crosshairs in that the four lines don t meet in the middle.
This allows the shooter to more easily center the target without focusing too much, thus improving
speed. Although I personally don t like this style of reticle, this is one of the most popular scopes sold
in the world, and many shooters love it. Optics Simmons uses high quality optical glass to make their
lenses, and then they coat them multiple times. The coatings help light to travel through the lenses,
which then enters your eye so you can see. Light transmission is also aided by the large 32mm
objective lens that gathers more light to send through the scope. All of this boils down to sharp, clear
images that you ll love no matter what the weather conditions. Adjusters The .22 Mag scope features
Simmons unique SureGrip adjusters. Instead of using a screwdriver or a dime like other scopes, your

Personal Narrative-Padre Island
I jumped on my bed at 12 in the morning. I can t wait for tomorrow! It s going to be a tremendous day.
My family; Dad, Mom, little brother Andrew and I, are going to South Padre Island early in the
morning! I couldn t stop thinking about it. What am I going to be able to do there? How will the hotel
look like? Pause. The list can go on and on, but first, I need some sleep. It s going to be a great time
with my family.
Ring! Ring! My alarm rang at 5:15 am. I enthusiastically ran downstairs trying to let my legs get
moving. The first thing I see is loads of bags and luggage. Good morning, Ashley! Mom and Dad
cheered at me. I waved my hand and wondered about how they could be still efficacious with all the
packing. Andrew is on the couch napping with a sausage ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

we get to go to South Padre Island for three days! I yelled to my family. It takes about eight hours to
arrive at our hotel, so I definitely got carsick. The good news was that we got to eat fast food! Andrew
and I got to sleep a lot while the parents got to drive. We arrived after 7 pm to our hotel. Then, we
grabbed our heavy, bulky, luggage and brought them to our room to the 2nd floor. After we unpacked,
we were exhausted and all but we still had the stamina to go down to the beach and take a view on the
glazing ocean water. It looked very delicate like a clear foil was laid on top of the water. I doused my
feet in the cool, numb water. While digging my hands deep in the soft, cushy, sand, I could feel all the

Disadvantages Of Antitrust Law
Chief Justice Roberts stated courts in the U.S. have historically granted injunctions upon a finding of
infringement since the 19th century. The Antitrust Division in the U.S. also admits a patent owner s
rights to exclude are similar to the rights enjoyed by owners of other forms of private property in the
Antitrust Guidelines for the Licensing of Intellectual Property. Therefore, as a fundamental principle,
antitrust law does not generally prohibit the holder of any other property right from seeking an
injunction to vindicate that right. The FTC has the right to regulate unfair methods of competition and
unfair or deceptive acts or practices under Section 5 of the Federal Trade Commission Act. During the
past two decades, the FTC has been heavily involved in several high profile SEP disputes, including
Dell Computer Corp., N Data, Rambus Inc. v. FTC, Motorola Mobility, and Bosch GmbH. The FTC
generally invokes competition law as a basis for investigation over these cases under Section 2 of the
Sherman Act and Section 7 of the Clayton Act. The particular concern ... Show more content on

These consent agreements mostly impose strict requirements for an SEP holder to seek injunctive
relief. For example, in Bosch GmbH, the FTC dictated that Bosch GmbH can only seek injunctions
against an unwilling licensee. The unwilling licensee shows unwillingness by refusing to accept the
SEP holder s offer of a license on F/RAND terms, or a court s determination. In Motorola Mobility,
the order prohibits Google/Motorola from making any future claims for injunctions over a F/RAND
Patent against a potential licensee. This unwilling licensee similarly should refuse (1) a F/RAND offer
either in writing or in sworn testimony, (2) a court order, (3) a binding arbitration determined F/RAND
terms, or (4) simply not replying to the written confirmation requested in a F/RAND Terms from an

Identity, Identity And Identity Construction
When it comes to understand the nature of identity, place is inseparable aspect from identity
construction. Similarly, human mobility is another integral aspect taking into account to the study of
identity in the age of globalisation. As society increasingly changes more fast and complex than ever
before, the relationship between mobility and identity seems to have been more accentuated than the
bond of place and identity.
Thus, in this essay, I will seek how identity is intertwined with place and mobility in the purpose of
finding a certain position between them. First, I will find how the bond of place and identity
influences on the construction of identity through some of narrative discourses. Secondly, I will
examine some of case studies on migrants experiences as the examples of identities which are
challenging place based identities in the context of human mobility. Then finally, after taking every
discussions which I have examined on this essay into consideration, I will reach a conclusion toward
the issue.
1. Place based identities in narrative discourses
For the last centuries, place has long been a major topic on the study of identity construction in that it
is integrally connected with a sense of belonging or home which is created in the birthplace of human
s life. Although it might be supposed that an increase of changes of place or residence has loosen the
links with place, the importance of the correlation between place and identity yet cannot be

Playoff opponents are like ice cream flavors. They re all good, each with its own distinctive strength.
The New York Giants have four potential opponents in the wild card round of the postseason: the
Detroit Lions, Green Bay Packers, Atlanta Falcons and Seattle Seahawks. All are dangerous. All are
winning teams deserving of their playoff position.
Eli Manning will take whatever playoff matchup the Giants get, but he d be wise to root for something
other than a visit to Seattle. Al Bello/Getty Images
The Giants already have faced two, beating the Lions at MetLife Stadium late in the season and losing
to the Packers at Lambeau Field early in the season. That factors into the equation of best and worst
matchups for Big Blue in the opening round of the postseason. So should the current form of each
team and its health.
Locked in as the No. 5 seed, the Giants are going to play the division winner with the worst record in
the NFC on the road. That doesn t necessarily mean they will play the worst division winner or the
opponent that gives them the best chance to win. Matchups are everything this time of year. Some
stadiums are more hostile environments than others. Seattle falls into that category.
Here is how I rank the potential opponents, in terms of which team the Giants should most want to

Symbolism In Everyman
Our theatre practitioners have come up with various ways of putting together a play. Traditionally, a
play has to hold certain aspects and plot to be complete and considered a play. According to Freytag
(2014), a drama is divided into five parts, namely: Exposition, Rising Action, Climax, Falling Action
and Denouement. The play Everyman incorporates such qualities. Everyman is medieval play
probably written in the 15th century, and its original writer remains anonymous. It is a morality play
that consists of allegory characters that symbolize certain concepts of life.

Astonishingly enough, Good Deeds is willing to go with Everyman on his pilgrimage but she is lame
because of Everyman s numerous sins. She however comes with vital information for Everyman s

Knowledge is the best tool for every human being. God says, according to King James Version

brings to his attention that he still has qualities that make him be. Those qualities give him identity and
they are: Beauty, Strength, and Discretion as well as Five wits but he soon learns that none of them
can provide him with salvation. Five wits however stirs him up and points him to the right direction.

Post war, Eichmann was captured by the U.S., but escaped to Argentina in 1946. There, he proceeded
to live his life with his family for around 10 years until he was abducted by the Israeli Security Service

international attention and gave the public a close up view of the horrors of the Holocaust. Eichmann s
trial was the first ever to be shown on television[BK1] . Throughout the trial, Eichmann was behind

With all the evidence against him, his only appeal was to continually try to convince the jury that he
was in the hands of his leaders. He pleaded that because he was not an actual leader in the movement
he was not guilty. His active part in the final solution backfired on this claim. When Eichmann was
questioned about his feelings toward the allegations made against him during the trial, he explained
the difference in his mind between his legal guilt and his ethical guilt. Eichmann said I bear no
political responsibility and therefore I am not legally guilty. Though Eichmann was responsible for the
mass deportations, the fault of the whole Holocaust was not all on him. To some extent, Eichmann was
just following the orders of men as worse as him.Eichmann uses this idea in his defence. He testified
that he was just working under Heinrich Himmler and Mueller, two of his superiors. He explained
how he had to follow the orders he was given and that the punishment for disobedience was death. In
fact, Eichmann said in one of the trial transcripts, [11] I was merely a tool in the hands of a stronger
powers. While this is true to some degree, Eichmann could have turned himself in, and this was
brought up in the trial. He begs the court to understand that he was just a pawn. He said:

duties. Once again I would stress that I am guilty of having been obedient, having subordinated myself

Water And Sanitation For The Bolivian People
Introduction One of the most studied phenomena in political science is how some countries were able
to develop into rich nations while some remained underdeveloped and poor. While the answer to this
important question is so unique and complex that it may never be answered, there are some policies
that may help a country to develop. One of which is the proper use of foreign aid. Bolivia, like many
of the counties in Latin America, is considered to be an LDC with its deeply rooted issued of severe
poverty. The country receives large amounts of foreign aid, and even with the reception of foreign aid,
Bolivia has seen insignificant changes to its developmental level due to the misuse of funds. The
USAID has decided to restore ties with Bolivia and grant the country $1 million. In this paper I will
suggest that the grant of these funds is to be used to provide clean sources of water and sanitation for
the Bolivian people. In the construction of this argument, I will begin with a broad summary of
Bolivia s developmental status, along with its nature, and the effect it has on its citizens. Next, I will
outline that the channeling of these funds will through NGOs and will go towards the building of
water purification and sanitation systems in both urban and rural areas. Third, I will explain why this
form of aid is the most effective method that will help Bolivia to overcome its lack of development. I
conclude that this particular approach to aiding Bolivia will offer and institute

How Does Greene Present Fowler s Relationship In The Quiet...
In his allegorical novel The Quiet American , centered during the conflicts of the First Indo China
War, author Graham Greene aims to portray the majority of relationships as being driven by selfish
desires. Greene develops this motif through the eyes of protagonist Thomas Fowler, whose initial
indifferent cynicism towards the war enhances the idea that personal gain and individual desires are
the powering force behind the story s relationships. This egocentricity prevailing within the friendship
of characters Thomas Fowler and Alden Pyle, as well as Fowler s affair with Vietnam, serves to
further explore Greene s idea that personal gain plays a bigger role than affection in any relationship.

J. D. Salinger Essay
J. D. Salinger
J. D. Salinger The worth of a book is to be measured by what you can carry away from it. James
Bryce* In 1945, a novel was published that would forever change the way society views itself. The
book, entitled The Catcher in the Rye, would propel a man named Jerome David Salinger to fame as
one of the most famous authors of the twentieth century. This same man, not ten years after the
publication and while still in the peak of his career, would depart from this society the one that he so
greatly changed leaving nothing but his literature to be his lasting voice. However one may view this

After receiving an English degree at Columbia, Salinger worked briefly as an entertainer on the
Swedish Liner MS Kungsholm in the Caribbean in 1941. In 1942 Salinger enlisted in the United
States Army and fought in World War II, where he eventually became a staff sergeant earning five
battle stars. The time spent overseas played a major role in what would ultimately be the basis of most
of Salinger s short stories. World War II is also where Salinger met one of his major literary
influences, Ernest Hemingway. Although Salinger s style stems from Hemingway, their first encounter
was not one that sat well on Salingers s mind. The story goes that while Hemingway was serving as an
author correspondent, he visited Salinger s regiment and that Salinger became disgusted when
Hemingway shot the head off a chicken to demonstrate the merits of a German Lager (French 25). The
incident so affected Salinger that he incorporates it into his short story, For Esme: with Love and
Squalor, with a corporal named Clay shooting the head off a cat and constantly dwelling upon the
senseless act. The relationship between Hemingway and Salinger would last until Hemingway s death
in 1961. Despite having a personal relationship with Hemingway, according to Harold Bloom, ...

The Theme Of Loneliness
In A Clean, Well Lighted Place, by Hemingway and Miss Brill by Katherine Mansfield what they both
have in common is the literary device theme loneliness. Theme is the general idea or insight revealed
in a narrative. These two stories are also different from the style of writing these two authors wrote
how to tell their stories.
Loneliness is introduced in the beginning of the short story A Clean, Well Lighted Place by
Hemingway. The deaf old man, with no wife and only a niece to care for him, is noticeably lonely. The
younger waiter, upset that the old man won t go home, shows himself and the old man in opposites:
He s lonely. I m not lonely. I have a wife waiting in bed for me (Ernest Hemingway pg. 373)

The old people sat on the bench, sill as statues. Never mind, there was always the crows to watch.
(Mansfield pg. 563) She sees all of the people, in their separate interactions, as being part of a stage
production. She thinks of the people in the stands, including herself, not as audience members but as
performers too. She thinks of herself as being a part of the production that if she were missing
someone she would notice. She tells the old man who cares little for her presence that I have been an
actress for a long time. (Mansfield pg. 564)
These two stories contrast the way they were written in A Clean, Well Lighted Place the author
Hemingway writes the story mostly in dialogue. The story is mostly the young waiter and older waiter
talking to each other about the old man. Last week he tried to commit suicide (Ernest Hemingway pg.
372) We only learn about the old man through conversation between the waiters.
The way Katherine Mansfield wrote Miss Brill she wrote a lot of details where you can imagine Miss
Brill enjoying her fur. She had taken it out of it s box that afternoon, shaken out the moth powder,
given it a good brush and rubbed the life back into the dim little eye. (Katherine Mansfield pg. 562) It
bought her back to life. But today she passed the baker s boy, climbed the stairs, went into the little
dark room her room like a cupboard and sat down on the red eiderdown bed. (Katherine Mansfield pg.

Why Is It Important To Keep Summer Break
Do you remember how excited you used to get for summer break? Now imagine not having a break at
all, having to continuously learn new subjects all year long. Exhausting isn t it? There are some
schools where there would be a 3 4 week break in the summer, but the winter break is longer than
ours. Personally, I believe that we should keep our summer break the way it is because: both students
and teachers deserve a break from school, constantly having new information drilled into your head all
year long is bound to put stress on anyone, and there are countless students who depend on summer
break to work and/or travel.
First off, students and teachers would not be able to stand each other by the end of the year. If the
county had all year round school, we would all start resenting each other because of all the time we
would be forced to spend together. Also, I know a couple of teachers who gave up one job for being a
teacher because of summer break. They have time to travel and do whatever they want in the summer
instead of being stuck in a building with teenagers all day. Plus, teachers also deserve a break from
grading papers and talking until their voice is gone to kids who are probably not even listening. ...

stressful enough as it is; with the amount of work that we get on a daily basis, it s no wonder we are

would start thinking they aren t smart enough to pass high school so they just stop trying. Kids also

What We Learn From Kendrick Lemar s To Pimp A Butterfly
Life is a jungle, a beautiful, colorful landscape, often painted with harsh conflict and oppression.
Navigating forward requires keeping healthy relationships with the community and those close to you,
maintaining focus on your true identity, and not losing sight of larger than life goals. These ideals are
the message that Kendrick Lamar wishes to bestow upon whomever experiences his latest album, To
Pimp A Butterfly.
Kendrick s story originates in Compton, a jungle at its core, where he learned that survival depends on

unavoidable presence ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Similar to Tupac, Kendrick wanted to demonstrate characteristics of a great leader so he too could be
an example for his people.
Unfortunately, the excessive fame and separation from Compton came with harsh consequences:
Kendrick began to struggle with keeping in touch with his roots, and the ideals that hoisted him to the
throne. He expresses these emotions in the track Momma, where he states how he knows everything
about life, but goes on to realize that after reaching stardom, he may be out of touch with his roots and
all he knew. Throughout the rest of To Pimp A Butterfly, we find out he felt lost in the cocoon a
metaphor for the grasp media has on society, and desperately began to cling to his true identity as a
way to break free from the cocoon s bounds. Eventually, Kendrick emerges as a butterfly, wanting to
return home and teach all the caterpillars what he learned.
For Kendrick, African American oppression and Compton s black on black crime is at the forefront of
his frustration, and a prime inspiration for his need to teach the community about working together.
On the track simply called I , a live recording, Kendrick is heard calling out to a crowd to join
together. Unfortunately, his message seems to initially fall on deaf ears. Instead of listening, the crowd
continues to fight over how to fix the problems in their community, rather than unite to fight them
together. As he continues to speak, the crowd becomes quieter, and Kendrick goes on to condemn

Marriage Is The Fundamental Source Of Happiness
Introduction
Middlemarch was written in the years leading up to 1832, during the Reform act, and this act was for
the benefit of middle class people. Male defense of narrowing of options was the female brain was not
equal to the demands of commerce or the professions, and women, simply by virtue of their sex, had
no business mingling with men in a man s world (Altick 54). Contrast with men without the added
profit of a formal education put conditions in front of many Victorian women to find the only
possibility available, marriage as a main occupation. Marriage is one of the important themes in
Middlemarch as most of the characters marry for love and yet marriage still appears unpleasant and
unromantic. Unlike other novels of that time, marriage is not considered the fundamental source of
happiness. An ill advised or not wise marriage between two people who are inherently compatible
never becomes completely tuneful. Marriage is one of the major themes in Middlemarch as, according
to critic Francis George Steiner, both principle plots are case studies of unsuccessful marriage . These
lines give the suggestion that the lives of Dorothea and Lydgate are vacant because of these disastrous
marriages . These lines are asserted more to the case for Lydgate than for Dorothea, who gets a second
chance through her lastly marriage to Will Ladislaw, her first husband s cousin; however, a consent
interpretation of this marriage is dependent upon the character of Ladislaw himself,

Pro And Negative Effects Of Medical Technology
Though underappreciated, advancements in medical technology are imperative to the success of the
human race as a whole. For instance, some of the most common medical procedures such as
amputation, surgeries, the modern ambulance, and anesthesia inhalers were created and popularized
during the United States Civil War (Rowe). Both during the civil war and currently, the advancements
decrease death tolls while making modern and future treatments safer, faster, and overall more
efficient. They have also given the more prevailing advancements a stepping stone to develop and
grow from, allowing the forthcoming medical technology to further advance. We see this same pattern
happening perpetually, creating a loop of advancements that continue to build upon themselves and
each other.
The U.S. has the most medically advanced medical care system in the world. However, its services are
mainly available to the affluent and middle class consumers who have the financial means to demand
these services (Botehlo 1991) (Dewar). Full medical care isn t always readily available to all; only
those who may afford it have access to it. This is a result of the cost of the services themselves being
higher, due to the lack of supply (so to speak) and a growing demand. However, Dewar stated, The
practice of defensive medicine had an indirect impact on technology utilization through the pressure
for increased availability of technology (Dewar). These pressures have encouraged the United States

Art Integration Research Paper
What is Art Integration?
Silverstein and Layne (2010) define arts integration as an approach to teaching in which students
construct and demonstrate understanding through an art form. Students engage in a creative process
which connects an art form and another subject area and meets evolving objectives in both. Arts
integration combines curriculum and teaching among dance, music, theatre, and visual art while
interconnecting the arts with non arts subjects. Integration takes many forms as teachers from different
subject areas collaborate for rich curricular connections.
Academic Outcomes Dance can help create successful readers. McMahon, Rose, and Parks (2003)

  • 2. Working Memory Experiment Working memory is defined as memory that is involved in our everyday tasks. It is the active and temporary representation of information that is maintained for the short term in one s mind to help decide what to do next (Gluck, 344). Working memory is a very pivotal part of our lives, because it is this memory that helps us stay on our feets. Working memory works in different ways with every individual. It has its own processes and there are significant working memory differences in every age group from younger adults to older adults. This memory can also be called short term memory. This paper will investigate the differences of working memory between younger and older adults, use articles to show how various experiments explain the deficits of working memory in older adults, and show how working memory is strongly needed in mathematical tasks with schoolchildren. Let s start with some background information about working memory and how it is utilized in everyday life. Working memory refers to a brain system, or mental workspace, responsible for temporarily storing and manipulating information. It is different from short term memory, where information is stored and recalled in the same ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There was an associative deficit for older adults in the short term and long term intervals. Using only short term intervals, experiment 2 utilized mixed and blocked test designs to examine the effect of test event salience. Blocking the test did not attenuate the age related associative deficit seen in the mixed test blocks. Finally, an age related associative deficit was found in Exp. 3, under both sequential and simultaneous presentation conditions. Even while accounting for some methodological issues, the associative deficit of older adults is evident in short term/working memory. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Argument Against Solitary Confinement The concern of the effects solitary confinement has on those who experience it has also called up the opinions of religious figures. Pope Francis condemned solitary confinement and all capital punishment sometime in October 2014. Roughly translated by Jean Casella on solitarywatch.com the Pope said, One form of torture is sometimes applied by imprisonment in maximum security prisons. With the motive of providing greater security to the community or special treatment for certain categories of prisoners, its main feature is none other than the isolation. As demonstrated by studies carried out by different human rights bodies, the lack of sensory stimuli, the complete lack of communication and the lack of contact with other human beings, causes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The new rules also dictate that the longest a prisoner can be punished with solitary confinement for a first offense is 60 days, rather than the current maximum of 365 days. The president s reforms apply broadly to the roughly 10,000 federal inmates serving time in solitary confinement, though there are only a handful of juvenile offenders placed in restrictive housing each year. The Washington Post also writes what this reform sets out to do, While Obama is leaving the details of policy implementation to agency officials, the Justice Department s report includes 50 guiding principles that all federal correctional facilities must now follow. They include increasing the amount of time inmates placed in solitary can spend outside their cells, housing prisoners in the least restrictive setting necessary to ensure their safety and that of others, putting inmates who need to be in protective custody in less restrictive settings and developing policies to discourage putting inmates in solitary during the last 180 days of their ... • 4. Sacred Heart College s Year 12 Biology Class Wednesday 18 February 2015, Sacred Heart College s Year 12 biology class took a field trip to Siren s Rock , located between Island Bay and Owhiro Bay on Wellington s South Coast. The pattern which was being investigated across the rocky shore was zonation. Zonation is a community pattern that occurs along an environmental gradient and is caused by the change in an environmental factor changing the distribution of species which results in species being present in zones or bands. This report will focus on the relationship between, and how this affects the zonation pattern on the shore of, the two species Cellana denticulata; commonly known as the Denticulate Limpet, and Syprachiton pelliserpentis; the Snakeskin Chiton. Cellana denticulata The first species studied was the Cellana denticulata. This species is a true limpet from the marine gastropod mollusc group and is the most commonly found on Siren s Rock. Denticulate limpets have a cone shaped shell which is covered in ridges to increase the surface area to radiate heat therefore increase cooling for the organism. It grips to rocks with its fleshy, muscular foot, and also grinds the edge of their shell into the rock so they fit perfectly together. In order to avoid dessication, the limpets pull down their shell and clamp over a pocket of water while still submerged so they can retain the water during low tide. C. denticulata are also homing limpets; this means that they have a specific home mark which they live at and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. What Is Human Nature In The Lottery By Shirley Jackson Readers connections to The Lottery by Shirley Jackson establish that human nature in the modern era is flawed; eventually, resulting in fallacious and faulty actions. Faulty actions and aspects of human nature are related to outdated traditions and Old Man Warner. The theory of evolutionary psychology applies to the situation and is essential to explaining some of the reasons for this occurrence. Human nature has developed over the timeline of our existence and a theory of explaining human nature is through evo psych. This theory explains mental and psychological traits that humans have gained due to natural selection (Science Daily, 2016). The behavior shown in this story is what would be expected because of the ways human s ancestors would have had to live ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Human nature can be seen as a culmination of every survival mechanism obtained through natural selection. They can be added on but never deleted, the mechanisms are carried in our genetic instructions. Many survival mechanisms become obsolete and are no longer needed to survive in the world like wisdom teeth which many humans remove because of their negative effects. The difference between wisdom teeth, a biological mechanism, and behavioral patterns is that behavioral patterns are exceptionally difficult to notice. Old Man Warner is representative of a survival mechanism which no longer serves a purpose. Analysis Of George Orwell s Narrator In Shooting An Elephant Fitting In: Orwell s Narrator in Shooting an Elephant Since the publication of George Orwell s, Shooting an Elephant in 1936 many philosophers have engaged in conversation about humanity, violence, politics, power, dominance, race, culture and principles. Orwell was in fact a genius plain and simple, though in a very complicated way (Firchow 94). George Orwell brings you into his essay with lucid and vivid details the entire way starting from the setting, I remember that it was a cloudy, stuffy morning at the beginning of the rains, (25) to the characters attitudes towards one another, if a European woman went through the bazaars alone somebody would probably spit betel juice over her dress (23). The essay starts with the narrator, whom we assume is Orwell, a white man working as a sub divisional police officer in Moulmein, Burma where the British have a colonized. Being English, the narrator Orwell is hated by many of the natives, When a nimble Burman tripped me up on the football field and the referee (another Burman) looked the other way, the crowd yelled with hideous laughter (Orwell 23). One morning, Orwell receives a call about an elephant ram sacking the town and even killing a native Burman. Television Genre And Style Of Mockumentaries Essay Within the realm of television today, many of the more popular comedies have a very specific style of production and way of capturing scenes. This style is often referred to as the Mockumentary style and can be seen within examples like The Office and Park and Recreation. The popularity of these shows alone have inspired many other different spin offs and takes on this specific style of comedy, but these shows shouldn t be credited as the founders of the mockumentary style. In fact, for television shows the mockumentary s history goes farther back by a couple of decades. This paper will attempt to discover the answers to three main questions regarding the television genre and style of mockumentaries. Firstly, the definition of a mockumentary and a general understanding of the stylistic similarities must be examined before the history of the mockumentary is to be explored. Next, the historical background will be considered as well as the cultural significance and impact of the shows that emulated this mockumentary style. Lastly, the paper will look to the current cultural contexts and the social impacts of the popular, modern day televisions shows that incorporate these styles. Through the analysis of the mockumentary style in the combination of the historical lens and the definitional lens, modern day shows that utilize this subgenre will be better understood as well as their impacts on society itself. • 12. The Reflection Of My Writing On Technology And Technology Most of the time when I am writing a paper, I do not have a choice on what I am writing. But when I do get to choose my topic, then I can write about something that I enjoy and feel passionate about. In my experience with writing, I have chosen many topics. But most of them I probably did not enjoy writing about that particular topic. There are very few papers that I have written where I really enjoyed writing. But the paper that I am going to talk about was different for me because I wanted people to understand my point of view on the subject. And so, I felt compelled to write about the topic that I chose for this particular essay that I wrote in 9th grade. It is about technology, and its role and effect on society. The paper I wrote on technology was an essay. Like most essays, it had 5 paragraphs. An introduction paragraph, three body paragraphs, and a conclusion paragraph. My teacher also had me write an outline to the essay, to help me stay organized in my thoughts. In the introduction paragraph I summarize my main points. I chose three points about technology that I would mention in each of the body paragraphs. In my first body paragraph, I talk about how technology has affected education and the way people can learn. In my second body paragraph, I talk about how technology has changed the way we communicate with people. And in the third paragraph, I talk about how technology has changed the way we entertain ourselves. I chose to write about technology partially because at the time that I was writing that essay, a close family member in my household was experiencing health issues when they were around technology. And so I had to live with very little to no technology for about a year. And that probably sounds like I was living in a different time era, and sometimes it felt like that. It was really a drastic time for me and my family. Because in this world, technology is used for everything. And so we had to adapt to not being with it when we were home. It was a really different experience. But it happened for a reason. And I learned how to live without constant technology. Technology has changed education for the better. • 13. The Importance Of Conscription In The Military Service Should a government have the power to compel its citizens into military service? Support your view. For a government to be sustainable it must have the power to compel its citizens into military service. The most important resource in the military is men because much of military weaponry isn t autonomous. People are always in short supply, and especially in the modern age where the horrors of war are clear visible and easy to access volunteers normally cannot supply enough manpower. Conscription in various forms was necessary during the Civil War, WWI, WWII, the Vietnam War, and Korean War to support the military in what sometimes became deeply unpopular conflicts. While conscription laws definitely should have certain exemptions, these laws are necessary in times of war, and thus the government must have the power to create and enforce them. Why do you think that the United States government allowed substitutes to be hired, or commutation paid? The U.S. government almost certainly permitted substitutions and commutation payments in an effort to prevent the socially and economically powerful upper class from getting cold feet. Business magnates and industry leaders naturally might be angered or fear a war that could result in their conscription (and an inevitable decrease in their standard of living as draftees), and the war effort would quickly fall apart without their support. In addition, there likely was a purely selfish motive as what distinguished Senator would want ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For a clearer understanding Siddharth Kalla explains, In statistics, variables are central to any analysis and they need to be understood well by the researcher...In statistics, variables can contain a value or description of what is being studied in the sample or population. (Kalla, 2011, para. 1 2). Meaning, a variable can essentially be anything that can be analyzed because it has the ability to be counted. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Given what is known now about linear correlation and linear regression, it can be further understood how bivariate data, within a sample population could be figured. For instance, if one wanted to determine the relationship between a math classes test scores and study/prep time, variable one would be the test scores and variable two is the hours each student spends studying and prepping for the test. The bivariate data, since it is the data of the students would be the test scores and time spent studying and prepping (Study.com, 2017). When reviewing the bivariate data and comparing the variables to one another the numbers indicate that the students with the highest test scores have spent more hours studying and prepping and those will little study and prep time scored lower on their tests. This indicates that a correlation between the variables could be measured using linear correlation and linear regression. The values in this example would be measured by initially determining which of the variables are independent and dependent. The independent variable in this case would be something that the student has control over, which is the amount of studying and prep time devoted to the test, so that would be called the x variable, as the students have control over how much time is allotted to studying. The dependent variable in the example would be the test scores, deemed y as it is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Scott Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby is a superbly written and an intrinsically captivating novel that deals with the decline of the American Dream and how vapid the upper class is. To illustrate and capture the essence of these themes, Fitzgerald uses characters Gatsby, who epitomizes the actual American Dream, and Daisy, who is based on the ideal girl. Yet, as these characters grasp the topics Fitzgerald wants to convey, there is something inherently like missing from the story as a whole. To fill this void, Fitzgerald utilizes minor characters as a means to move the plot along, develop characters further, and build upon the themes present in the novel. One such ... His situation parallels Gatsby s in both their idealization of Myrtle and Daisy, respectively. Both of these patterns serve to emphasize the character flaws in Tom and Gatsby and ultimately in the superficial lifestyle presented in the novel. D Holbach Free Will Essay The arguments presented by D Holbach and Hobart contain many of the same premises and opinions regarding the human mind, but nonetheless differ in their conclusion on whether we have free will. In this paper, I will explain how their individual interpretations of the meaning of free will resulted in having contrary arguments. Both philosophers begin by establishing that the soul, or self, is a reflection of the person that includes their characteristics, motives, and traits. Therefore, when they consider an event of free will it is perfectly acceptable to include the personality of the subject involved. However, the critical point in where they differ is with their interpretation of what it means to have free will. To D Holbach, this implies treating man as a free agent who s thoughts and actions and independent from external causes. To him, this implies that man must have greater strength than the entire of nature and results in a truly unnatural being. On the other hand, Hobart derives the meaning of free will from the word freedom , and concludes that someone who has the power act freely has free will. In fact, greater openness and honesty resulting from repeal seem to have promoted increased understanding, respect and acceptance. (4) Recruitment was unaffected by the repeal of DADT. Similarly, human mobility is another integral aspect taking into account to the study of identity in the age of globalisation. As society increasingly changes more fast and complex than ever before, the relationship between mobility and identity seems to have been more accentuated than the bond of place and identity. Thus, in this essay, I will seek how identity is intertwined with place and mobility in the purpose of finding a certain position between them. First, I will find how the bond of place and identity influences on the construction of identity through some of narrative discourses. Secondly, I will examine some of case studies on migrants experiences as the examples of identities which are challenging place based identities in the context of human mobility. Then finally, after taking every discussions which I have examined on this essay into consideration, I will reach a conclusion toward the issue. 1. Place based identities in narrative discourses For the last centuries, place has long been a major topic on the study of identity construction in that it is integrally connected with a sense of belonging or home which is created in the birthplace of human s life. Although it might be supposed that an increase of changes of place or residence has loosen the links with place, the importance of the correlation between place and identity yet cannot be ... The Giants Best And Worst Wild Card Ranking the Giants best and worst wild card matchups 7:00 AM ET Jordan Raanan ESPN Staff Writer Facebook Twitter Facebook Messenger Pinterest Email print comment Playoff opponents are like ice cream flavors. They re all good, each with its own distinctive strength. The New York Giants have four potential opponents in the wild card round of the postseason: the Detroit Lions, Green Bay Packers, Atlanta Falcons and Seattle Seahawks. All are dangerous. All are winning teams deserving of their playoff position. Eli Manning will take whatever playoff matchup the Giants get, but he d be wise to root for something other than a visit to Seattle. Al Bello/Getty Images The Giants already have faced two, beating the Lions at MetLife Stadium late in the season and losing to the Packers at Lambeau Field early in the season. That factors into the equation of best and worst matchups for Big Blue in the opening round of the postseason. So should the current form of each team and its health. Locked in as the No. 5 seed, the Giants are going to play the division winner with the worst record in the NFC on the road. That doesn t necessarily mean they will play the worst division winner or the opponent that gives them the best chance to win. Matchups are everything this time of year. Some stadiums are more hostile environments than others. Seattle falls into that category. Here is how I rank the potential opponents, in terms of which team the Giants should most want to face in their first ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 28. Symbolism In Everyman Our theatre practitioners have come up with various ways of putting together a play. Traditionally, a play has to hold certain aspects and plot to be complete and considered a play. According to Freytag (2014), a drama is divided into five parts, namely: Exposition, Rising Action, Climax, Falling Action and Denouement. The play Everyman incorporates such qualities. Everyman is medieval play probably written in the 15th century, and its original writer remains anonymous. It is a morality play that consists of allegory characters that symbolize certain concepts of life. Good Deeds is a symbolism of things that Everyman has ever done selflessly. Astonishingly enough, Good Deeds is willing to go with Everyman on his pilgrimage but she is lame because of Everyman s numerous sins. She however comes with vital information for Everyman s progress. This is the falling action of the play. Good Deeds refers Everyman to Knowledge. Knowledge is the best tool for every human being. God says, according to King James Version (1973:981) My people perish for they lack knowledge. It is then Knowledge who is able to reason with Everyman and leads him to repentance. Before Everyman comes to his senses, his knowledge brings to his attention that he still has qualities that make him be. Those qualities give him identity and they are: Beauty, Strength, and Discretion as well as Five wits but he soon learns that none of them can provide him with salvation. Five wits however stirs him up and points him to the right direction. According to Zublin (2014) Five wits represent the five senses: sight, hearing, touch, taste, smell . There, he proceeded to live his life with his family for around 10 years until he was abducted by the Israeli Security Service and brought to stand trial in Israel. The evidence that was shared throughout the trial gained international attention and gave the public a close up view of the horrors of the Holocaust. Eichmann s trial was the first ever to be shown on television[BK1] . Throughout the trial, Eichmann was behind bulletproof glass to make sure he was not harmed. With all the evidence against him, his only appeal was to continually try to convince the jury that he was in the hands of his leaders. He pleaded that because he was not an actual leader in the movement he was not guilty. His active part in the final solution backfired on this claim. When Eichmann was questioned about his feelings toward the allegations made against him during the trial, he explained the difference in his mind between his legal guilt and his ethical guilt. Eichmann said I bear no political responsibility and therefore I am not legally guilty. Though Eichmann was responsible for the mass deportations, the fault of the whole Holocaust was not all on him. To some extent, Eichmann was just following the orders of men as worse as him.Eichmann uses this idea in his defence. He testified that he was just working under Heinrich Himmler and Mueller, two of his superiors. He explained how he had to follow the orders he was given and that the punishment for disobedience was death. In fact, Eichmann said in one of the trial transcripts, [11] I was merely a tool in the hands of a stronger powers. While this is true to some degree, Eichmann could have turned himself in, and this was brought up in the trial. He begs the court to understand that he was just a pawn. • 31. Water And Sanitation For The Bolivian People Introduction One of the most studied phenomena in political science is how some countries were able to develop into rich nations while some remained underdeveloped and poor. While the answer to this important question is so unique and complex that it may never be answered, there are some policies that may help a country to develop. One of which is the proper use of foreign aid. Bolivia, like many of the counties in Latin America, is considered to be an LDC with its deeply rooted issued of severe poverty. The country receives large amounts of foreign aid, and even with the reception of foreign aid, Bolivia has seen insignificant changes to its developmental level due to the misuse of funds. The USAID has decided to restore ties with Bolivia and grant the country $1 million. In this paper I will suggest that the grant of these funds is to be used to provide clean sources of water and sanitation for the Bolivian people. In the construction of this argument, I will begin with a broad summary of Bolivia s developmental status, along with its nature, and the effect it has on its citizens. Next, I will outline that the channeling of these funds will through NGOs and will go towards the building of water purification and sanitation systems in both urban and rural areas. Third, I will explain why this form of aid is the most effective method that will help Bolivia to overcome its lack of development. I conclude that this particular approach to aiding Bolivia will offer and institute ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In his allegorical novel The Quiet American , centered during the conflicts of the First Indo China War, author Graham Greene aims to portray the majority of relationships as being driven by selfish desires. This egocentricity prevailing within the friendship of characters Thomas Fowler and Alden Pyle, as well as Fowler s affair with Vietnam, serves to further explore Greene s idea that personal gain plays a bigger role than affection in any relationship. James Bryce* In 1945, a novel was published that would forever change the way society views itself. The book, entitled The Catcher in the Rye, would propel a man named Jerome David Salinger to fame as one of the most famous authors of the twentieth century. This same man, not ten years after the publication and while still in the peak of his career, would depart from this society the one that he so greatly changed leaving nothing but his literature to be his lasting voice. The time spent overseas played a major role in what would ultimately be the basis of most of Salinger s short stories. World War II is also where Salinger met one of his major literary influences, Ernest Hemingway. Although Salinger s style stems from Hemingway, their first encounter was not one that sat well on Salingers s mind. The story goes that while Hemingway was serving as an author correspondent, he visited Salinger s regiment and that Salinger became disgusted when Hemingway shot the head off a chicken to demonstrate the merits of a German Lager (French 25). The incident so affected Salinger that he incorporates it into his short story, For Esme: with Love and Squalor, with a corporal named Clay shooting the head off a cat and constantly dwelling upon the senseless act. The relationship between Hemingway and Salinger would last until Hemingway s death in 1961. Despite having a personal relationship with Hemingway, according to Harold Bloom, ... Now imagine not having a break at all, having to continuously learn new subjects all year long. Exhausting isn t it? There are some schools where there would be a 3 4 week break in the summer, but the winter break is longer than ours. Personally, I believe that we should keep our summer break the way it is because: both students and teachers deserve a break from school, constantly having new information drilled into your head all year long is bound to put stress on anyone, and there are countless students who depend on summer break to work and/or travel. First off, students and teachers would not be able to stand each other by the end of the year. If the county had all year round school, we would all start resenting each other because of all the time we would be forced to spend together. Also, I know a couple of teachers who gave up one job for being a teacher because of summer break. They have time to travel and do whatever they want in the summer instead of being stuck in a building with teenagers all day. Plus, teachers also deserve a break from grading papers and talking until their voice is gone to kids who are probably not even listening. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These ideals are the message that Kendrick Lamar wishes to bestow upon whomever experiences his latest album, To Pimp A Butterfly. Unfortunately, the excessive fame and separation from Compton came with harsh consequences: Kendrick began to struggle with keeping in touch with his roots, and the ideals that hoisted him to the throne. He expresses these emotions in the track Momma, where he states how he knows everything about life, but goes on to realize that after reaching stardom, he may be out of touch with his roots and all he knew. Throughout the rest of To Pimp A Butterfly, we find out he felt lost in the cocoon a metaphor for the grasp media has on society, and desperately began to cling to his true identity as a way to break free from the cocoon s bounds. Eventually, Kendrick emerges as a butterfly, wanting to return home and teach all the caterpillars what he learned. For Kendrick, African American oppression and Compton s black on black crime is at the forefront of his frustration, and a prime inspiration for his need to teach the community about working together. On the track simply called I , a live recording, Kendrick is heard calling out to a crowd to join together. Unfortunately, his message seems to initially fall on deaf ears. • 38. Marriage Is The Fundamental Source Of Happiness Introduction Middlemarch was written in the years leading up to 1832, during the Reform act, and this act was for the benefit of middle class people. Male defense of narrowing of options was the female brain was not equal to the demands of commerce or the professions, and women, simply by virtue of their sex, had no business mingling with men in a man s world (Altick 54). Contrast with men without the added profit of a formal education put conditions in front of many Victorian women to find the only possibility available, marriage as a main occupation. Marriage is one of the important themes in Middlemarch as most of the characters marry for love and yet marriage still appears unpleasant and unromantic. Unlike other novels of that time, marriage is not considered the fundamental source of happiness. An ill advised or not wise marriage between two people who are inherently compatible never becomes completely tuneful. Marriage is one of the major themes in Middlemarch as, according to critic Francis George Steiner, both principle plots are case studies of unsuccessful marriage . These lines give the suggestion that the lives of Dorothea and Lydgate are vacant because of these disastrous marriages . These lines are asserted more to the case for Lydgate than for Dorothea, who gets a second chance through her lastly marriage to Will Ladislaw, her first husband s cousin; however, a consent interpretation of this marriage is dependent upon the character of Ladislaw himself, ... • 39. Pro And Negative Effects Of Medical Technology Though underappreciated, advancements in medical technology are imperative to the success of the human race as a whole. For instance, some of the most common medical procedures such as amputation, surgeries, the modern ambulance, and anesthesia inhalers were created and popularized during the United States Civil War (Rowe). Both during the civil war and currently, the advancements decrease death tolls while making modern and future treatments safer, faster, and overall more efficient. They have also given the more prevailing advancements a stepping stone to develop and grow from, allowing the forthcoming medical technology to further advance. We see this same pattern happening perpetually, creating a loop of advancements that continue to build upon themselves and each other. The U.S. has the most medically advanced medical care system in the world. However, its services are mainly available to the affluent and middle class consumers who have the financial means to demand these services (Botehlo 1991) (Dewar). Full medical care isn t always readily available to all; only those who may afford it have access to it. This is a result of the cost of the services themselves being higher, due to the lack of supply (so to speak) and a growing demand.
