Eva Longora Case Study In Criminal Justice Case
Eva Longora has a case in regards to public slander because the statements made against her are an
embarrassment to her and are defaming as a public figure. Due to there being a serious crime
involving Eva s moral turpitude the news caster projected. San Antonio is a positive, loving city and is
protective of the Spurs. That is not an excuse for a respected public figure on an elevated platform did
slander Ms. Longoria; she has the right to be angry with the newscaster. The comments more than
likely provided a generous amount of negative publicity for Eva during the time of the slander.
However, while there is evidence that Tony Parkers performance declined when his wife attended
playoff games, the case of slander is valid. Secondly, In regards as to communicate that exposes a
plaintiff to ridicule. Yes, there is open ridicule for the city and other fans to express. However, there is
nothing more than bad publicity and tabloids. Which leads to number three: the comments are not
direct insults to Eva s character, morality or integrity. It only suggests that she is a bad luck charm
while attending Spurs playoff basketball games. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She has her own independent carrier from Texas, and is not inducing the Spurs in anyway. Therefore,
according to the limited information provided about the results of the slander, the slander dose doesn t
have proof it affected her. Fifth, although there is a communication that suggests that the plaintiff
suffers from a mental defect that would cause others to refrain from associating with the plaintiff (the
stress of going to the games) she is a widely recognized celebrity that the world wants to be involved
with. The only stress that occurs would be due to the superstitious culture the San Antonio area holds

Whale Talk Reflection
The twists and turns of your life can be so unexpected, and that s a good thing to learn. Whale talk is a
story of a kid named T.J and some of his friends that go through a life of a teenager. In the story Whale
Talk by Chris Crutcher, people who have been through traumatic events cope with challenges in their
lives by overcoming, forgetting, or learning.
Forgetting is how some people cope with their traumatic events in life. Something that would be hard

because he saw it with his own eyes and it was his dad so he would not be able to forget it. Anyone

Unicef Rhetorical Devices
Further, the use of time tested rhetorical devices also serves as a strategy practiced in UNICEF s
rhetoric. This is when the repetition of a specific word occurs in order to draw the attention of the
audience toward it. UNICEF s mission statement displays this phenomenon through the repeated use
of the word protect or protection. These words have strong value as they, in themselves, have only a
positive signification. Google defines the word protect as to keep safe from harm or injury; this
definition can serve to highlight the benevolent nature of the word and, correspondingly, emphasize its
constructive framework. By carefully organizing the context of a statement, time tested rhetorical

Andrew Carnegie s Impact On Society
Between 1865 and 1901, Andrew Carnegie played a great role in innovation and made America the
most major industrial nation in the world (www.socyberty.com). Living a destitute early life, Carnegie
went to night school and educated himself as much as he could as a child (www.britannica.com).
Because he could read and write, Carnegie, the only son of a weaver, became one of the richest men in
America (www.myinterestingfacts.com). Carnegie warms hearts of society with one of his most
compelling quotes which states I began to learn what poverty meant. He would later write, It was

donate. He believed that everyone should give their money to make the world around them a better
place for everyone, including them. This quote explains why he granted over ninety percent of all of
his wealth by the time he died. Hebrews 13:16 Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have,

The Service Of Service Design
We have learnt from Servicer Strategy that service means to provide guidance on design, and how to
implement them according to the needs of the customer. From the service lifecycle Service Design
comes after the service strategy (Annexure A). The service design is not limited to new services, but
also to old services which are need to improve the service design which are necessary to maintain the
value to customers. The main objective of service design is designing an innovative idea or to change
an existing design into a live environment. To change a design or to implement there are several
requirements. These requirements are taken from the service portfolios and they are analyzed. There

They said that design is moving closer to the social innovation linking its characteristics at different
levels. For example, service and relationships to social needs or improving life conditions and social
situations.
In order to successfully implement the plan of design or projects of service management there has to
be efficient use of 4P s: The People, the Process, the Products and the Partners. To function the service
management, the 4P s must be overlapped to each other. There should balance between all the 4P s to
ensure safe and appropriate design. The design approach must be comprehensive, because most of the
problems faced by the organizations are focus on the functional requirements. The design architecture
should be considered from all the aspects. Therefore, there are several design aspects, they are:
Service level management, Availability management, Service catalogue management, Security
management, Capacity management, IT service continuity management.
Service Level Management:
Service level management is an important link between IT and business. Service level provides a good
foundation for good quality service, cost reduction IT services and ensuring compliance with the
service goals and customer s expectations. An effective service level system will always ensure that
the key aspects are met in time where risks is not into picture. For an effective business, IT service

Blooms Taxonomy
Implementing Bloom s Taxonomy into instructional planning in lieu of high stakes standardized
testing can build students cognitive development Theory can inform and guide practice to allow
individuals to strengthen and/or reinforce certain areas of study. With the case of high stakes
standardized tests, students are being taught at lower levels of cognition, thus impacting their
cognitive development for application in furthering education and career readiness. Given that
education plays a significant role in social status and economic prosperity, school should prepare

Alfred Von Shlieffen
Before World War I, German Chief of staff Alfred von Schlieffen was requested by Kaiser Wilhelm II
to create Germany s army a plan for a war against France and Russia. Germany could not compete
with other European powers. Surrounding states afraid of Germany s quick growth and aggressive
attitude were eager to contain it. The Kaiser sought out Schlieffen and directed him to devise a plan
that would allow Germany to gain power and assert itself as a dominant state. Because the Franco
Russian alliance was in place at that time in 1898, Germany was unable to attack just one of the
countries and not the other. Instead, it would be forced to fight a two front war. Wilhelm II knew that
if they were attacked, Britain would come to France s defense.

Social And Cultural Events In The 20th And 21st Century
Education has been affected greatly by social and cultural events of the 20th and 21st centuries.
Because education follows the moves of society, the need for new skills in life and in the workplace
change and students can be career and college ready. This, however, has not always been the case. The
first of two main cultural and social events focused on are the events that led up to the Brown vs. the
Board of Education Supreme Court case, which resulted in the desegregation of schools. The second
are the effects that the Great Recession had on the education system. In the 1940s the Civil Rights
Movement began gaining strength and the country began moving slowly to desegregation. In 1947, in
the face of much opposition, Jackie Robinson became the first African American baseball player.
When he traveled to the south he was denied access into hotels, restaurants, and other venues because
of this race. Because Robinson was in the army the armed forces became desegregated in 1948 and
eventually led to the elimination of segregated schools (Schwartz, 2003). During this era African
American students were in separate but equal schools although many black schools suffered from poor
facilities and a lack of funding and other amenities that were provided at white schools. Black students
were often bussed great distances to attend school. In 1952, the National Association for the
Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) lawyers represented the case Brown vs. the Board of
education. This case dealt with the right of a black child to attend an all white school close to her
home instead of being bussed across town to the all black school. Initially, the ruling was in favor of
the Board of Education, but the adverse effects of separate but equal schooling on the black
community were clearly shown (Schwartz, 2003). African Americans were also held back by not
having the right to vote. A literacy exam was required to be passed in order to vote. Because of their
schooling restrictions, many African Americans were illiterate, which denied them of the right to vote.
A workshop for the United Nations drew several community members and teachers from the south
(Horton, Freire, 1990). One member who attended

Martin Luther King Just Law Analysis
Justice is considered a consequence for an acted committed by another, that benefits the most amount
of people. My personal interpretation of what justice means is different from Martin Luther King, as
he describes just laws as laws that uplift personality. What he means by this is that there should be
laws in place that do not dehumanize people, whether it is done physically, socially, or legally. He
specifically touches upon justice and injustice in regards to law. He defines an injustice law as one that
degrades human personality; dehumanizing, in my own words, is the process of making a person feel
less than others or giving unequal benefits or deficits based on traits that are out of the average person
s control. On the contrary, just laws is the opposite of doing this, making it the act of evening out a
wrongdoing, and preventing such acts from occurring in the future, from a societal standpoint.
Furthermore, this includes equal opportunity and treatment in regards to traits out of our control. This
double edged sword also comes with justifying punishment for action we have control over. If an
action someone performs while exercising free will is considered by the majority to be immoral, then
it is justifiable to punish them for it. If there is no choice made by a person, how can a person justly
punish them for it? These injustices in society are the responsibility of the people, supported by
inquiry by Dr. King in his Letter From Birmingham Jail.

Firing Back At Gun Control Essay
Jacob Wilson
Ms. Aukes
English II
3 September 2014
Firing Back At Gun Control In America there are about 200,000 women that use guns every year to
protect themselves against sexual crime (Snyder). Gun control is where the government puts laws on
someones ownership of a firearm. Gun control is a tricky topic and has the nation somewhat split both
ways on it. 62% think that there is little concern for firearm restriction, while 33% say there is a need
to worry about it, and the other 5% are indifferent (Ekins). There are two main groups that are feuding
on this topic. Group one is the gun activist, leading the pack for them is the National Rifle
Association. This group is for guns and limited laws and regulations on them. Their opposition is the
President, liberals and many left wing politicians. This group wants to have strict gun laws and allow
nobody to own a gun. Although some people believe guns are wrong they need to become educated in
the importance of guns: they can provide a way of life, they are a means of protection, and Americans
have a constitutional right to bear arms.
For some people owning and using a gun is a way of life. They are hunters, trap shooters, and
businessmen. Hunters are able to use a firearm as a means of providing food for their family and the
hungry of the community. There are organizations such as one in North Carolina that receive legally
harvested deer from hunters to feed families in need ( Hunting Matters ). Meat from hunting is a safe,

How Does Govinda Discover Nirvana
Govinda is the shadow or sidekick of Siddartha throughout the entire novel, but he has his own path to
follow to Nirvana. Govinda goes through three specific stages to get to Nirvana. The Samanas help
Govinda understand what spiritual life is. The Buddha helps him discover that the way to Nirvana
cannot be taught it is discovered on one s own. Finally, Govinda goes out on his own to discover
Nirvana because the Buddha cannot teach him his way. Throughout the novel, the Samanas, the
Buddha and the help of Siddartha create the stages which Govinda experiences in order to discover
Nirvana. The Samanas assist in Govinda s path in life to reach the end paradise. When Govinda went
to live with the Samanas, he only knew of a luxurious and wealthy lifestyle. He quickly found out
there are more important things than money in a person s life. He discovered that becoming physically
attached to something is not necessary to find happiness. Happiness and Nirvana can be achieved with

Between Serpents Of Paradise By Edward Abbey And Thinking...
The difference between Serpents of Paradise by Edward Abbey and Thinking Like a Mountain by
Aldo Leopold is specifically that one essay focuses more on the hunting aspect of life. Both essays
seem to care about the environment. In Abbey s essay he tries to figure out how to avoid killing the
snake; he needed to stay calm and move it without getting bit. In Leopold s essay he killed a wolf to
save the deer population; allowing him to hunt more deer. Each essay was written with great
description, yet showing one author cared more about the animal and its environment over the other.
In both Leopold and Abbey essays they wanted to alter their environment, but only Abbey succeeded
due to Abbey having the correct knowledge when it came to his environment. The authors have two
clearly different environments and describes them in diverse ways. Abbey writes about his
surroundings as a bright, clear, calm April morning. He changed his description in the afternoon as the
wind begins to blow, raising dust and sand in funnel shaped twisters that spin across that desert briefly,
like dancers, and then collapse elements under stress (52). While Leopold writes about his experience
with on a mountain as a deep chesty ball echoes from rimrock to rimrock, rolls down the mountain,
and fades into the far blackness of the night (49). People, in general, care more about the environment
as it comes to their careers. Abbey and Leopold have careers which has involved them in their specific

Binge Drinking On College Campuses
Over the past few years, there has been this big debate about whether the drinking age should be
lowered to 18 or if it should stay at 21. Those in favor of lowering the drinking age to 18 argue that
someone who is old enough to serve their country should be allowed to have a drink. Those who are in
favor of keeping the minimum legal drinking age at 21 because of consequences regarding
psychological development and health problems later in life. However, there is a bigger problem
concerning alcohol. The problem is the excessive amount of drinking or commonly known as binge
drinking, done by primarily college students and by raising taxes on any and all alcoholic beverages
can lead to significant reduction of dangerous binge drinking and simultaneously reducing the
dangerous effects of binge drinking. Drinking has become a tradition amongst college students, and
drinking is portrayed as a vital part of the college experience. Most incoming college freshman come
into college with a preexisting tendency to drink, and the college campus life can be a significant
influence on alcohol consumption and the rate at which alcohol is consumed. Binge drinking is so
common that it is expected of a college student to drink once getting into the university. The reasons
in which students decide to binge drink can vary from students

Running Head: CLASSIC THEORIES OF SOCIOLOGY

CLASSIC THEORIES OF SOCIOLOGY
Abstract
The purpose of this essay is to discuss the three basic theories of sociology. The three basic theories of
sociology are functional, conflict, and symbolic interactionism. These theories are studied on the
micro or macro level. The micro level is the sum of interactions between people and groups. The
micro level analysis is based on small groups and individuals versus the macro level which is viewed
on a larger scale and looks at society as a whole. In the functional theory members of society share a
common interest of values, beliefs, and behavioral expectations. In the conflict theory there is a
constant struggle between resources and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One change or shift in society can either make optimal opportunities to the community or create the
start of a downward spiral. I have found that all three theories are based on society and how an
individual person or a group of people acts or behaves greatly affects each of these theories. It is
amazing the amount of changes that a person can go through by having to deal with social changes.
Lastly, in order to explain which theory best describes our social reality we need to define what social
reality means. Social reality is basically created through social interactions, individual motives, and
actions. It is a little difficult for me to choose one theory that relates to our social reality that we live in
today. I feel that we could easily fall under each theory depending on the circumstances. The
functionalist theory is made up of different parts that all work together like a puzzle to build stability
or a strong foundation. This theory involves

families and large communities that have a strong bond formed to support one another. We must
support and invest in our schools and churches to make a difference in our community. If we lose our

Personal Is Political
According to Merriam Webster Dictionary, political is defined as a situation that relates to the
government or the public arrangements and rulings for a country ( political ). Political can also be
viewed as the means and processes in which a country is able to govern their citizens and for them to
do same for the government. The political agenda can relate to the lives of an individual person when
it impedes on their natural rights. This can seen in many cases where a personal experience or
condition influences the choices of an individual. There has also been debate about if the personal
needs to be kept separate from politics to make unbiased choices. Two examples of this topic of debate
is the separation of church and state, and the ethics of war and combat. However, the personal is
political argument opposes this idea by stating that the personal interests and experience of an
individual can be used to shape a country s political and social agenda (Harutyunyan 50). Using the
argument of personal is political it can be shown that one s experiences with their own body and
psyche can help shed light on specific political and social issues in a country such as veteran disability
and mental illness. The body can help raise social awareness for campaigns that advocate against air
pollution by showing the deteriorating health of a nation s population or help bring attention to issues
such as veteran disability compensation. The topic of veterans and mental illness is by

as a physical note or coin that can be used to make transactions. However, Bitcoin is basically an

Without a bank to manage the supply of this crypto currency, the price is unregulated and proves to be
extremely volatile. This price fluctuation is one quality that is holding the legitimacy of Bitcoin back
because it needs a consistent value for practical use in the monetary world. As speculative investors
buy and sell Bitcoin, the price varies at extreme rates. But in support of Bitcoin s long term future, the
price has shown a steady uptrend in the past year, peaking at around $1200 (See Apendix I).
Eventually, a steady value will be reached to establish the actual price of Bitcoin. The positive aspect
of Bitcoin s decentralization greatly outweighs this temporary problem of volatility. The lack of the
Federal Reserve s regulation essentially allows this virtual currency to eradicate inflation. Ed
Grabianowski describes inflation as a process when a unit of currency loses value because more units
are produced and put into circulation by the regulator in attempts to solve financial issues ( What
Exactly is Inflation? ). Bitcoin does not face this problem since it has a predetermined supply: 21
million digitalized blocks ( Betting on the Bitcoin Buzz ). Instead of having a regulator through banks
and the government, which can inherently fail, Bitcoin relies on regulation through a mathematical
equation. To comprehend this regulation, the process of mining must first be understood.

of everyday furniture items to be surprisingly expensive. The fact that even the most basic couches
were over $400 and the simplest table sets were over $500 was very intimidating. Even if I managed
to find some items at cheaper prices and on sale, I was still shocked to see that the total was almost
$1000 more than my monthly income. I believe the most valuable lesson I learned was that we live in
a very expensive world, and that almost everything is more expensive than you would believe. This
leads to the lesson that you need to have a budget plan to minimize and control your expenses, as you
could spend more than you are able to very easily. Costs are higher than you expect most of the time,
so you really need to monitor your spending, as it adds up

Literary Works Based On War And Heroism

In reading The Iliad and Beowulf, one can conclude they are both literary works based on war and
heroism. The hero in the Iliad is Achilles, who is from Greece and is the Archaen army s greatest
warrior in the battle of the Trojan war. Beowulf, a Geatish warrior has come to help the Danes in their
long fight against Grendel, showing his heroism. Both characters Achilles and Beowulf share some
similar traits such as their thirst for glory, their abnormal strength, and their courage. The characters
also display several differences among each other as in they are not from the same cultures, Beowulf
is more selfless than Achilles, and Achilles fights humans instead of mythical creatures such as
Beowulf does. In medieval literature and todays literature, heroism is important simply because it
gives people hope and inspires them. As stated before, Achilles and Beowulf were both thirsty for
glory and I think that trait is still present in today s time which cannot always be positive. Also, in
todays time it is not the term hero that has changed. It is we who have changed. For most people, the
media, pop culture, and events in society change our perception of a hero. In Beowulf, Beowulf s
thirst for glory is expressed throughout the entire story. Inspired again by the thought of glory, the war
king threw his whole strength behind a sword stroke and connected with the skull (2677 2680) . In the
Iliad, Achilles shows his

Alipay s core service is an escrow service which solves the concerns related to settlement risk between
buyer and seller. In this system, after a buyer commits himself/herself to an online transaction, his/her
payment is held in an Alipay account until he receives the product ordered. After the product is
received the buyer notifies Alipay and the payment is then forwarded on to the seller. As of December
2006, Alipay had 33 million registered users. (Source: Alipay 33 Million Registered Users,

payments in US Dollars, Canadian Dollars, Australian Dollars, Euros, Pounds Sterling, and Japanese
Yen. Buyers could also pay for their online purchases on various e commerce websites and auction
sites like eBay using the balance in their PayPal account. Though this mode of transaction was quick,
there were also a number of complaints from disgruntled PayPal users. Most of the complaints were
related to the dispute resolution procedures of PayPal. In eBay China, transaction fees used to be

Finding a Balance between Lowering Stress Levels of Staff...
There are numerous elements that contribute to stress in the healthcare setting. Nurses days are full of
physical, mental and emotional demands. There are societal demands and workplace demands created
by the shortage. These stressors can become increasingly overwhelming and if there is no stress relief,
job performance can and will be hindered. When fatigue and stress combine there is potential for
performance decrements . This can include diminished capacity to manage a specific level of
workload resulting in errors in the delivery of nursing care. This can produce damaging effects on the
safety and advantageous outcomes for both the nurses and patients. (Reese, 2011). Therefore, finding

The risks of making an error were significantly increased when work shifts were longer than twelve
hours, when nurses worked overtime, or when they worked more than forty hours per week.
(Trossman, 2009). Working longer hours in a high stress area will always increase the error rate.
Designating an adequate number of RN positions to ensure nurses work an appropriate schedule
without overtime and that their workload allows for breaks. Managerial staff must work to develop
specific policies about the length of work times based on the setting, patient and provider needs.
Those policies should limit nurses from working more than 12.5 consecutive hours. Provide education
for all care providers on the hazards and causes of fatigue. Continue to document unsafe staffing
conditions and work with others to change the current work culture so that it recognizes the effects of
fatigue on patient safety, as well as the nurse. (Berger, et al. 2006) Hourly rounding contributes in
several key areas to achievement of high levels of patient satisfaction, including quality of care and
patient safety. This puts patients at the center of care by building on the fundamental aspects of care,
which are so important. Thus by checking in on patients in wards regularly to see whether they are
comfortable and have everything they need can produce a number of positive results. Nurses

Positive Relationship With A Teacher
spends more per person on school education than most developed countries and yet we are behind
most of the countries in the math and science abilities. As of January of this year, education officials
of Alabama have released a list of seventy five schools, mostly high schools, are considered failing
(Crain 2017). According to decades of research, ineffective teaching of teachers is the biggest problem
in public schools across the nation. Bad teachers don t understand the importance and the impact of
having a good teacher student relationship. Positive teacher student relationships include the presence
of having closeness, warmth and positivity with the students in the classroom (Gallagher 2013). By
having a good teacher student relationship, it positively impacts the student s social and academic
outcomes. Positive relationships with teachers help students with developing self esteem, self concept
and enable students to feel safe in their learning environments. This positive relationship with a
teacher is specifically effective in high poverty urban schools. Students that live in poverty who have a
strong teacher student relationship have higher academic achievement and more positive social
motional adjustment than those who don t have a positive relationship with their teacher. Studies have
found that the teacher student relationships are very important in transition years when students go
from elementary to middle school and high school. They found that students that

Have you ever wished you still had the innocence of a child? Or that you were not ever exposed to the

The short story comes from Salinger s Nine Stories , which includes other pieces of his work such as
The Laughing Man , Down at the Dinghy , and Teddy . He is known to write about the loss of
innocence in each of his stories. Salinger s story is an autobiography; he portrays his own life events

him to suicide. Seymour s character mimics true events in Salinger s life. The short story consolidates

Credit Bureau Research Paper
Understanding the Credit Bureaus
In order to fully understand credit and the reporting process, we must first understand who the credit
bureaus are. Hopefully we can help you with this article to understand the history of The Big 3 : the
most commonly used credit bureaus or consumer reporting agencies and their role in the credit
reporting process.
A credit bureau is essentially an aggregator of information on consumers. Each and every time you fill
out a credit application, miss or make a payment, and obtain a mortgage or a car loan or just about
anything that has to do with the extension of credit (some one else s money), the credit bureaus are
involved and more than likely aggregating or collecting that information.
The credit bureaus have made a very profitable business out of helping lenders like banks, mortgage
banks, credit card companies and auto loan lenders assess credit worthiness or in laymen s terms a
consumers ability to pay back a loan. The credit scoring model is a risk assessment in the form of a
score. This assessment or credit score is one of the leading decision makers of interest rates and other
terms of a loan. Consumers with poor or low credit scores will pay a higher annual interest rate than
consumers with high credit scores. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Treaty of Versailles resembles more of a forceful ultimatum than a peace treaty between nations.
The United States president Woodrow Wilson himself privately admitted that he would have refused

Possibly because the Germans input were not asked for during the negotiations of the Treaty of

Categorical Imperative By Immanuel Kant
The issue of moral and immoral decisions are something that challenges every person at various points
of their life. A majority of the world s population relies on their religion, and God to guide them in
making those decisions. This however does set up an argument for the issue of being able to choose
the right moral path based on intellect regardless of religion or belief in a God. Immanuel Kant s
Categorical Imperative, arguably what he is best known for can be summed up for an argument for
making the right moral decision, as if they applied to everyone equally. This can be done using a
person s sense of reason, and consideration for others. Likewise these imperatives are the moral
obligations you need to follow, despite your desires. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I found this profound because I had come to realize that these men were being punished for the actions
of one individual. Also these men were in majority no older than me at 19, and simply needed a job or
wanted to defend their country. I felt as though there was no need to be unnecessarily mean to them,
and to treat them with such distain. It was at that point I made the moral decision that I wouldn t treat
people like regardless of what was going on around me.
Kant s concept of the Practical Imperative is that Act in such a way that you always treat humanity,
whether in your own person of another, never simply as a means but always at the same time as an end
, taking this to a modern sense is to recognize the humanity of the people around you and recognize
that other people have their own lives, goals, and deserve to be treated as such. This also goes to not
using people for your own benefit, this is regardless whether or not they are aware of it or not.
Likewise not to deceive or lie, it is a personal obligation to be truthful, regardless of the consequences.
This again can come back to the Christian belief system in that Love thy neighbor , the irony is not
lost, however with Kant s very strict Catholic upbringing its apparent he took what he was taught and
built upon it which is evident.
Kant s Kingdom of Ends, goes in hand with his idea of the Practical Imperative. This being that all
people have within themselves

Virgil s Aeneid as Roman Propaganda Essay
Virgil s Aeneid as Roman Propaganda
Rome was experiencing a great deal of internal turmoil during the period when Virgil wrote the
Aeneid. There was somewhat of an identity crisis in Rome as it had no definitive leader, or history.
With the ascension of Augustus to the throne, Rome was unified again. Still, it had no great book. The
Greeks had their Odyssey, giving them a sense of history and of continuity through time. A commonly
held view is that the Aeneid attempts to provide the Romans with this sense of continuity or roots.
There is a great deal of textual evidence to support this interpretation. Virgil makes numerous
references to the greatness of Rome through ancient prophecies. Clearly, the entire poem is an account
of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These two methods allow Virgil to connect his Rome very closely to the story of Aeneas, and give the
Aeneid a great deal of historical credibility in the eyes of his contemporaries.
It was very critical to Virgil that a believable sense of history be achieved in his writing. At the
beginning of Book VI, the story of Daedalus and his son Icarus is introduced when the Trojans see it
carved into the temple doors (lines 21 50). There is a second time in the text that such a reference to
the past is made in a similar fashion. This occurs in Book I when Aeneas observes the carvings on the
walls of Juno s temple at Carthage (lines 619 762). In these two incidents, the same technique of
recalling history is employed. Virgil seems to imply that the best way that he can describe history is to
tell it with the help of the gods, which in this case that would be the Muse that he has called upon in
Book I to assist him (line 13). At the time, the knowledge of the Muses was considered to be the
objective truth while the knowledge of the mortals was considered to be secondhand and imperfect.
The distinction between the two is made with the story of Daedalus. Virgil gives an elaborate account
of what he knows of the event, and then omits the ending which he does not know: Twice your father
tried to shape your fall in gold, but twice his hands dropped. (Book VI, lines 49 50) By wording the
story so that Daedalus does not describe his own son s

Chapter 1: INTRODUCTION
Capital market is now playing a strategic role in a country s economic growth. It facilitates the
exchange of funds between company as demander and investor as supplier. The existence of capital
market enables company to obtain an alternative source of fund. On the other hands, it gives flexibility
for investor to choose investment based on their preference. For both company and investor who are
involved in the capital market, understanding about capital market condition becomes matter in order
to understand how the market is actually works. One aspect of capital market conditions that might
become consideration before deciding to invest is the market efficiency. The term of market efficiency,
which is found in the capital market literature, is used to elaborate the relationship between the
information and the share price. In 1970, Fama proposed the Efficient Market Theory and defined
capital market efficiency as the market in which prices fully reflect all available information.

Common Core And Secondary Education Essay
INTRODUCTION Our nation is LAGGING in academics compared to other nations, such as South
Korea, Finland, and Japan. According to Emmeline Zhao (2012), the students of the United States
scored lower on academic tests compared to other countries. However, the United States is not the
worst performing nation. Its academic growth is lacking (Zhao, 2012).
One way to compete effectively with other nations is Common Core for secondary education.
Common Core (2016), per its website, is designed to prepare students for the future by providing
standards in which a student should meet by the end of each school year. The main goals of the
Common Core are to build upon state standards and to draw from elements of top performing
educational systems to prepare students for the globalized society.
Some support the Common Core because it promotes a higher level of comprehension skills and
independent learning. Lucy Calkins (2012) mentioned that the Common Core should help students
read beyond the surface level, and placed the emphasis on a student s ability to master the academic
standards (p. 1). It helps prepare students for the real world by understanding the nuances of the text
and emphasizing on the students task on learning the standards and applying them in the real world.
Others oppose the Common Core because it does not sufficiently improve comprehension skills and
college readiness. Sandra Strotsky (2010) emphasized that the Common Core standards did not

Coding Theory Case Studies
Abstract
This case study covers the coding theory, its components and its practical applications. Coding theory,
sometimes called logarithmic coding hypothesis, manages the configuration of lapse remedying codes
for the dependable transmission of data crosswise over uproarious channels.
Error coding is utilized as a part of numerous advanced provisions like workstation memory, attractive
and optical information stockpiling media. The investigation of mistake rectifying codes and the
cohorted arithmetic is known as coding hypothesis. In information theory, the amount of positions at
which the relating images are distinctive between two strings is Hamming distance. Hamming code is
a set of error correction codes that might be utilized to recognize and right bit errors that can happen
when machine information is moved or put away.
There is lot of examples of coding theory; one of the biggest examples of its use is in communication
field, i e modulation, encryption and decryption of signal.
Coding Theory A Case
In 1948, Claude Shannon, working at Bell Laboratories in the USA, introduced the entire subject of
coding hypothesis by indicating that it was conceivable to encode messages in such a path, to the point
that the amount of additional bits transmitted was as little as would be prudent. Unfortunately, his
confirmation did not give any express formulas for these ideal codes. It was two years after the fact
that Richard Hamming, likewise at Bell Labs, started

Overall, 1 in 4 respondents outsources less than 20% of their logistics operations to 3PLs. Is this is a
sign that shippers are hesitant to allow too much ownership of their supply chain to outside
companies, or that they prefer to bring the expertise into their own logistics division? Concerns over
integrating the two businesses into a successful working relationship and ensuring mutually viable
contract terms could also be factors in the decision against outsourcing a large percentage of key

Rome who influences the gullible citizens into thinking he could be a powerful king. After winning a
battle against Pompey, Caesar is seen as a hero. However, the senators have always been jealous of the
power the protagonist had. Caesar is warned about the Ides of March by a plethora of hints; however,
deception impacts Caesar and the prophecy comes true. The protagonist is assassinated by the plot of

buildings, into a prison, or across an international border, in violation of applicable laws or other

immunity via the diplomatic bag. For example, a Venezuelan general wanted in the United States on
drugs charges and arrested in Aruba was released after the Venezuelan government protested his
diplomatic immunity and threatened sanctions if Aruba did not release him It is of note that the
Sterling submachine gun used to shoot dead WPC Yvonne Fletcher from inside the Libyan Embassy in
London was smuggled out of the United Kingdom in one of 21 diplomatic bags in 1984 . In 2012, a 16
kg shipment of cocaine was sent to the United Nations in New York in a bag masquerading as a
diplomatic pouch while in January 2012, Italy detected 40 kilograms of cocaine smuggled in a
diplomatic pouch from Ecuador . A diplomatic bag, also known as a diplomatic pouch, is a container

  • 10. Social And Cultural Events In The 20th And 21st Century Education has been affected greatly by social and cultural events of the 20th and 21st centuries. Because education follows the moves of society, the need for new skills in life and in the workplace change and students can be career and college ready. This, however, has not always been the case. The first of two main cultural and social events focused on are the events that led up to the Brown vs. the Board of Education Supreme Court case, which resulted in the desegregation of schools. The second are the effects that the Great Recession had on the education system. In the 1940s the Civil Rights Movement began gaining strength and the country began moving slowly to desegregation. In 1947, in the face of much opposition, Jackie Robinson became the first African American baseball player. When he traveled to the south he was denied access into hotels, restaurants, and other venues because of this race. Because Robinson was in the army the armed forces became desegregated in 1948 and eventually led to the elimination of segregated schools (Schwartz, 2003). During this era African American students were in separate but equal schools although many black schools suffered from poor facilities and a lack of funding and other amenities that were provided at white schools. Black students were often bussed great distances to attend school. In 1952, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) lawyers represented the case Brown vs. the Board of education. This case dealt with the right of a black child to attend an all white school close to her home instead of being bussed across town to the all black school. Initially, the ruling was in favor of the Board of Education, but the adverse effects of separate but equal schooling on the black community were clearly shown (Schwartz, 2003). African Americans were also held back by not having the right to vote. A literacy exam was required to be passed in order to vote. Because of their schooling restrictions, many African Americans were illiterate, which denied them of the right to vote. A workshop for the United Nations drew several community members and teachers from the south (Horton, Freire, 1990). One member who attended ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Martin Luther King Just Law Analysis Justice is considered a consequence for an acted committed by another, that benefits the most amount of people. My personal interpretation of what justice means is different from Martin Luther King, as he describes just laws as laws that uplift personality. What he means by this is that there should be laws in place that do not dehumanize people, whether it is done physically, socially, or legally. He specifically touches upon justice and injustice in regards to law. He defines an injustice law as one that degrades human personality; dehumanizing, in my own words, is the process of making a person feel less than others or giving unequal benefits or deficits based on traits that are out of the average person s control. On the contrary, just laws is the opposite of doing this, making it the act of evening out a wrongdoing, and preventing such acts from occurring in the future, from a societal standpoint. Furthermore, this includes equal opportunity and treatment in regards to traits out of our control. This double edged sword also comes with justifying punishment for action we have control over. If an action someone performs while exercising free will is considered by the majority to be immoral, then it is justifiable to punish them for it. If there is no choice made by a person, how can a person justly punish them for it? • 12. Firing Back At Gun Control Essay Jacob Wilson Ms. Aukes English II 3 September 2014 Firing Back At Gun Control In America there are about 200,000 women that use guns every year to protect themselves against sexual crime (Snyder). Gun control is where the government puts laws on someones ownership of a firearm. Gun control is a tricky topic and has the nation somewhat split both ways on it. 62% think that there is little concern for firearm restriction, while 33% say there is a need to worry about it, and the other 5% are indifferent (Ekins). There are two main groups that are feuding on this topic. Group one is the gun activist, leading the pack for them is the National Rifle Association. This group is for guns and limited laws and regulations on them. Their opposition is the President, liberals and many left wing politicians. This group wants to have strict gun laws and allow nobody to own a gun. Although some people believe guns are wrong they need to become educated in the importance of guns: they can provide a way of life, they are a means of protection, and Americans have a constitutional right to bear arms. For some people owning and using a gun is a way of life. They are hunters, trap shooters, and businessmen. Hunters are able to use a firearm as a means of providing food for their family and the hungry of the community. There are organizations such as one in North Carolina that receive legally harvested deer from hunters to feed families in need ( Hunting Matters ). Meat from hunting is a safe, ... • 14. Between Serpents Of Paradise By Edward Abbey And Thinking... The difference between Serpents of Paradise by Edward Abbey and Thinking Like a Mountain by Aldo Leopold is specifically that one essay focuses more on the hunting aspect of life. Both essays seem to care about the environment. In Abbey s essay he tries to figure out how to avoid killing the snake; he needed to stay calm and move it without getting bit. In Leopold s essay he killed a wolf to save the deer population; allowing him to hunt more deer. Each essay was written with great description, yet showing one author cared more about the animal and its environment over the other. In both Leopold and Abbey essays they wanted to alter their environment, but only Abbey succeeded due to Abbey having the correct knowledge when it came to his environment. The authors have two clearly different environments and describes them in diverse ways. Abbey writes about his surroundings as a bright, clear, calm April morning. He changed his description in the afternoon as the wind begins to blow, raising dust and sand in funnel shaped twisters that spin across that desert briefly, like dancers, and then collapse elements under stress (52). While Leopold writes about his experience with on a mountain as a deep chesty ball echoes from rimrock to rimrock, rolls down the mountain, and fades into the far blackness of the night (49). Binge Drinking On College Campuses Sabrina Peters Research Final Draft English Composition Mr. Paul October 28, 2014 Binge Drinking On College Campuses Over the past few years, there has been this big debate about whether the drinking age should be lowered to 18 or if it should stay at 21. Those in favor of lowering the drinking age to 18 argue that someone who is old enough to serve their country should be allowed to have a drink. Those who are in favor of keeping the minimum legal drinking age at 21 because of consequences regarding psychological development and health problems later in life. However, there is a bigger problem concerning alcohol. The problem is the excessive amount of drinking or commonly known as binge drinking, done by primarily college students and by raising taxes on any and all alcoholic beverages can lead to significant reduction of dangerous binge drinking and simultaneously reducing the dangerous effects of binge drinking. Drinking has become a tradition amongst college students, and drinking is portrayed as a vital part of the college experience. Most incoming college freshman come into college with a preexisting tendency to drink, and the college campus life can be a significant influence on alcohol consumption and the rate at which alcohol is consumed. • 17. theories of sociology Running Head: CLASSIC THEORIES OF SOCIOLOGY 1 CLASSIC THEORIES OF SOCIOLOGY Abstract The purpose of this essay is to discuss the three basic theories of sociology. The three basic theories of sociology are functional, conflict, and symbolic interactionism. These theories are studied on the micro or macro level. The micro level is the sum of interactions between people and groups. The micro level analysis is based on small groups and individuals versus the macro level which is viewed on a larger scale and looks at society as a whole. In the functional theory members of society share a common interest of values, beliefs, and behavioral expectations. In the conflict theory there is a constant struggle between resources and ... I have found that all three theories are based on society and how an individual person or a group of people acts or behaves greatly affects each of these theories. It is amazing the amount of changes that a person can go through by having to deal with social changes. Lastly, in order to explain which theory best describes our social reality we need to define what social reality means. Social reality is basically created through social interactions, individual motives, and actions. It is a little difficult for me to choose one theory that relates to our social reality that we live in today. I feel that we could easily fall under each theory depending on the circumstances. The functionalist theory is made up of different parts that all work together like a puzzle to build stability or a strong foundation. This theory involves CLASSIC THEORIES OF SOCIOLOGY families and large communities that have a strong bond formed to support one another. Personal Is Political According to Merriam Webster Dictionary, political is defined as a situation that relates to the government or the public arrangements and rulings for a country ( political ). Political can also be viewed as the means and processes in which a country is able to govern their citizens and for them to do same for the government. The political agenda can relate to the lives of an individual person when it impedes on their natural rights. This can seen in many cases where a personal experience or condition influences the choices of an individual. There has also been debate about if the personal needs to be kept separate from politics to make unbiased choices. Two examples of this topic of debate is the separation of church and state, and the ethics of war and combat. However, the personal is political argument opposes this idea by stating that the personal interests and experience of an individual can be used to shape a country s political and social agenda (Harutyunyan 50). Using the argument of personal is political it can be shown that one s experiences with their own body and psyche can help shed light on specific political and social issues in a country such as veteran disability and mental illness. This price fluctuation is one quality that is holding the legitimacy of Bitcoin back because it needs a consistent value for practical use in the monetary world. As speculative investors buy and sell Bitcoin, the price varies at extreme rates. But in support of Bitcoin s long term future, the price has shown a steady uptrend in the past year, peaking at around $1200 (See Apendix I). Eventually, a steady value will be reached to establish the actual price of Bitcoin. The positive aspect of Bitcoin s decentralization greatly outweighs this temporary problem of volatility. The lack of the Federal Reserve s regulation essentially allows this virtual currency to eradicate inflation. Ed Grabianowski describes inflation as a process when a unit of currency loses value because more units are produced and put into circulation by the regulator in attempts to solve financial issues ( What Exactly is Inflation? ). Bitcoin does not face this problem since it has a predetermined supply: 21 million digitalized blocks ( Betting on the Bitcoin Buzz ). • 23. Literary Works Based On War And Heroism Kenyia Lepine Instructor Lovoy English 271 June 22, 2015 In reading The Iliad and Beowulf, one can conclude they are both literary works based on war and heroism. The hero in the Iliad is Achilles, who is from Greece and is the Archaen army s greatest warrior in the battle of the Trojan war. Beowulf, a Geatish warrior has come to help the Danes in their long fight against Grendel, showing his heroism. Both characters Achilles and Beowulf share some similar traits such as their thirst for glory, their abnormal strength, and their courage. The characters also display several differences among each other as in they are not from the same cultures, Beowulf is more selfless than Achilles, and Achilles fights humans instead of mythical creatures such as Beowulf does. In medieval literature and todays literature, heroism is important simply because it gives people hope and inspires them. As stated before, Achilles and Beowulf were both thirsty for glory and I think that trait is still present in today s time which cannot always be positive. Also, in todays time it is not the term hero that has changed. It is we who have changed. For most people, the media, pop culture, and events in society change our perception of a hero. In Beowulf, Beowulf s thirst for glory is expressed throughout the entire story. Inspired again by the thought of glory, the war king threw his whole strength behind a sword stroke and connected with the skull (2677 2680) . In the Iliad, Achilles shows his ... • 34. A Perfect Day For Bananafish By J. D. Salinger Have you ever wished you still had the innocence of a child? Or that you were not ever exposed to the truth of society? In 1948, J.D. Salinger wrote and published his story A Perfect Day for Bananafish . The short story comes from Salinger s Nine Stories , which includes other pieces of his work such as The Laughing Man , Down at the Dinghy , and Teddy . He is known to write about the loss of innocence in each of his stories. Salinger s story is an autobiography; he portrays his own life events through Seymour Glass. Glass, being the main character, suffers from psychological issues that lead him to suicide. Seymour s character mimics true events in Salinger s life. Salinger s A Perfect Day for Bananafish also incorporates symbols such as sunburn. Sunburn is the equivalent to getting burned by material pursuits. It is said that Muriel is most sunburned because she is the most vain and superficial ( A Perfect Day for Bananafish ). The words imply that Muriel cares mostly about her appearances. Although this may be true, it is also a connection to her archetype in society. She is focused on her social status and looks than her husband. Whereas Seymour tries to avoid the sun by wearing a bathrobe. Salinger writes, I mean all he does is lie there. He won t take his bathrobe off (5). This suggests that Seymour tries to protect himself from the impurities and artificialness of society. The United States president Woodrow Wilson himself privately admitted that he would have refused to sign the Treaty of Versailles if he were a German (1). Although, the Treaty of Versailles was meant to be the core of the peace settlement after World War I it did very little in serving as a peace treaty. Possibly because the Germans input were not asked for during the negotiations of the Treaty of Versailles, furthermore, the Germans had only two options; sign the treaty and be oppressed by the terms and conditions or do not sign and face invasion that would lead to a war that they were not capable of winning. • 37. Categorical Imperative By Immanuel Kant The issue of moral and immoral decisions are something that challenges every person at various points of their life. A majority of the world s population relies on their religion, and God to guide them in making those decisions. This however does set up an argument for the issue of being able to choose the right moral path based on intellect regardless of religion or belief in a God. Immanuel Kant s Categorical Imperative, arguably what he is best known for can be summed up for an argument for making the right moral decision, as if they applied to everyone equally. This can be done using a person s sense of reason, and consideration for others. Likewise these imperatives are the moral obligations you need to follow, despite your desires. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I found this profound because I had come to realize that these men were being punished for the actions of one individual. Also these men were in majority no older than me at 19, and simply needed a job or wanted to defend their country. I felt as though there was no need to be unnecessarily mean to them, and to treat them with such distain. It was at that point I made the moral decision that I wouldn t treat people like regardless of what was going on around me. Kant s concept of the Practical Imperative is that Act in such a way that you always treat humanity, whether in your own person of another, never simply as a means but always at the same time as an end , taking this to a modern sense is to recognize the humanity of the people around you and recognize that other people have their own lives, goals, and deserve to be treated as such. This also goes to not using people for your own benefit, this is regardless whether or not they are aware of it or not. Likewise not to deceive or lie, it is a personal obligation to be truthful, regardless of the consequences. This again can come back to the Christian belief system in that Love thy neighbor , the irony is not lost, however with Kant s very strict Catholic upbringing its apparent he took what he was taught and built upon it which is evident. Kant s Kingdom of Ends, goes in hand with his idea of the Practical Imperative. This being that all people have within themselves ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Virgil s Aeneid as Roman Propaganda Essay Virgil s Aeneid as Roman Propaganda Rome was experiencing a great deal of internal turmoil during the period when Virgil wrote the Aeneid. There was somewhat of an identity crisis in Rome as it had no definitive leader, or history. With the ascension of Augustus to the throne, Rome was unified again. Still, it had no great book. The Greeks had their Odyssey, giving them a sense of history and of continuity through time. A commonly held view is that the Aeneid attempts to provide the Romans with this sense of continuity or roots. There is a great deal of textual evidence to support this interpretation. Virgil makes numerous references to the greatness of Rome through ancient prophecies. Clearly, the entire poem is an account of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These two methods allow Virgil to connect his Rome very closely to the story of Aeneas, and give the Aeneid a great deal of historical credibility in the eyes of his contemporaries. It was very critical to Virgil that a believable sense of history be achieved in his writing. At the beginning of Book VI, the story of Daedalus and his son Icarus is introduced when the Trojans see it carved into the temple doors (lines 21 50). There is a second time in the text that such a reference to the past is made in a similar fashion. This occurs in Book I when Aeneas observes the carvings on the walls of Juno s temple at Carthage (lines 619 762). In these two incidents, the same technique of recalling history is employed. Virgil seems to imply that the best way that he can describe history is to tell it with the help of the gods, which in this case that would be the Muse that he has called upon in Book I to assist him (line 13). At the time, the knowledge of the Muses was considered to be the objective truth while the knowledge of the mortals was considered to be secondhand and imperfect. The distinction between the two is made with the story of Daedalus. Virgil gives an elaborate account of what he knows of the event, and then omits the ending which he does not know: Twice your father tried to shape your fall in gold, but twice his hands dropped. (Book VI, lines 49 50) By wording the story so that Daedalus does not describe his own son s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
