The Use Of Visual Imagery On Social Media
There s a movement of feminists who use visual imagery on social media to break the stigmas
surrounding body hair. In an extention this reflects and becomes a sign of refusal against
dominating power relations between the genders. I will proove this idea talking about the
stigmatization of body hair, according to The last taboo Women and body hair by K. Lesnik
Oberstein. I will clearify the context in which these stigmas are founded with The Beauty Mythby
Naomi Wolf, who argues that the idea of beauty subordinates women and preserves the male
dominance (Wolf, 1991, p. 12). By explaining discourse as a subconsious ideology and signified

Exess hair , superflous hair and unwanted hair , is only a small selection of ways we describe
women s body hair in the Western culture. In contrast to the hair women keep on their heads,
body hair only tend to be a relevant issue when we re aiming to remove it. But not even in
commercials for hair removal products we re confronted with it: either the unshaved body
sections are hidden with foam, or we re exposed to the hairless result of shaving. There is both a
verbal and a visual absence of women s body hair in our culture, which could be explained by the
taboos that surrounds the subject. It s either too disgusting, shameful and private, or too trivial to
bee discussed. ( K. Lesnik Oberstein, 2006, p. 1 2). Louise Tondeur means that the subject might

Effects Of Captive Enrichment On Fish Production Essay
Effects of Captive Enrichment on Fish Production: Fathead Minnows (Pimephales promelas)
Introduction
Environmental enrichment for fish in captive environments has not been studied often, unlike that
of mammals. However, in the last decade there have been more attempts to study it. Moreover,
structural environmental enrichment is the focal point at this time. Structural environmental
enrichment is the addition of a structure (e.g. toys, buoys, artificial vegetation) to the rearing
environment (Naslund Johnsson, 2014). Enrichment can affect a variety of aspects of the biology
of captive fish, such as, stress, injury, disease susceptibility, aggression, and energy expenditure
(Gerber et al., 2015)). A recent study conducted by Naslund and Johnsson (2014), found that
environmental enrichment can be divided into groups. These groups include: physical enrichment,
sensory enrichment, dietary enrichment, social enrichment, and occupational enrichment. Since,
some of those are difficult to test, physical enrichment is what is being studied now. All species of
fish are not the same and prefer certain substrates rather than others. Therefore, since the Fathead
Minnows that we will be studying and conducting this research on, will depend on what they prefer.
The goal of this study is to test whether captive enrichment effects the reproduction success of P.
promelas.
Background
Fat Head minnows can survive in a variety of environments such as creeks, headwaters, rivers,
lakes, and

Persuasive Essay On Ocean Pollution
Throughout many decades there has been a huge environmental problem, not only putting marine
life at risk but also human health. Ocean pollution is a big threat to the habitat and still today we
haven t stopped throwing trash, chemicals or toxins into the oceans. During the 1940 s, a technical
service of the Army dumped a lot of chemical warfare into the sea, believing the type of gas will
dissolve in the water becoming harmless in minutes. At that time, fishermen were able to catch a
lot of fish, it wasn t until they were out of luck and all they could see were dead fish floating on
the surface. Many people think that oil spills and trash are the only types of ocean pollution, but
they re also forgetting about chemical, bacterial and thermal pollution. Polluted seas can be the
cause of many diseases or infections, especially if people don t take big measures like telling
their kids not to accidentally drink water from rivers or lakes when swimming. Marine animals
are a big part of our food chain if they carry diseases or toxins we re also in big danger. Today,
there have been many people who have been trying to stop others from polluting the oceans, but
they still haven t been able to convince the whole world to end ocean pollution. The government,
instead of wasting money on unnecessary things like building walls or building more towers and
creating more trash they should build trash contractors that will help with the trash floating around
in the seas. There are

Recovery Day Narrative
The time had finally come. After three weeks of pain, two weeks of testing, and a week of
waiting. The results were in. I just had to wait a few more minutes for the doctor to come in and
tell me what was wrong with me and how long it would take to fix it. The results will change my
future.
The doctor walked in. I quickly ask him, What is wrong with my knee? He replied, Well it is not
the worst thing that could have happened, but you did tear your meniscus. This did not come as
much of a surprise because I have had people telling me for the past two weeks that something
probably had torn, most likely was my meniscus.
The news actually came as a little bit of a relief because a meniscus tear was the quickest
recovery time. Then the doctor started talking about what he could do to fix it. There were two
options, trim the torn part out or repair it. He said based on the MRI, it looked repairable but
would not know for sure until I was in surgery. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If I trim it, the recovery time will be six weeks. This killed my day and made mind up; I wanted
it trimmed. I asked, Could you just take the whole thing out? Angrily he responded, No, we
cannot just take it out. If we did that you would have many problems when you get older. You
would have arthritis in your knee by the time you are 40. I retorted, So, it would get me back in a
shorter period of time plus I will probably get arthritis in my knee anyway because it runs in the

The Conseption Of Powingder In The Movie Powder And You Re...
Xenophobia came from the Greek word xenos which means a foreigner. According to
Healthtopia, Xenophobia is the condition where the person feels threatened and terror when
confronted by a person with a different background. The movie Powder and You Re Not Alone are
example of why we are afraid of strangers. Not all strangers are bad people. Some strangers you
have to look out for and others could be really good people.
Powder is an albino teenage boy who is very intelligent and was shunned after the death of his last
relative. People started judging and criticizing powder, not even knowing who he was, what he
looked like, or the type of person he was. The special abilities that he had made him an outcast. In
the readings it says, The stranger in town becomes shrouded with suspension. Every action is
scrutinized. Every inaction is a sign of guilt. The writer s argument is, don t judge a book by its
cover.
After the death of one of his grandparents, he is discovered and sent to state home where he has
trouble fitting in. His unusual appearance and abilities caused the people in the town to mock
and fear him. Sheriff Barnum s wife, Emma is sick and in a coma and sheriff is unsure of what
he should to help her. Jessie asks Powder to pay Emma a visit to see if he could help. He touches
Emma and shares her thoughts with the sheriff. It becomes clear to Powder that he will fit in with
the others, so he runs away and goes back home. Had they not judged him, they would be able to
see the good and potential in him. The writer/director wants the audience to think that our
judgements and criticism shields us from seeing the good and beauty in someone or something.
His point is that we only perceive what is in front of us. We as people are afraid of strangers
because we taught to. The word stranger has a series of definitions. According to Dictionary.com,
A stranger can be a person with whom one has had no acquaintance, a newcomer in a place or
locality. An outsider, or a person who is not a member of the family, group, community, or a visitor.
The Intended audience seems to be Adults, or anyone into fantasy and mystery movies. The writer
s purpose in writing the film is to persuade or convince the audience to

Acetylation of Ferrocene
Acetylation of Ferrocene 17. October 1996 Experiment #7 Introduction In this lab we will be
utilizing the Friedel Crafts process of acetylation of ferrocene. Ferrocene is an atom of iron
bounded by two aromatic rings. We will use some reagents that will cause the ferrocene to add
either one acetyl group to an aromatic ring or add two acetyl groups to each of the aromatic rings.
In order to determine how well this process had worked we employed: IR spectra analysis, column
chromatography, and a little TLC. This experiment is relevant in today s highly industrialized
world. By utilizing many of the techniques we employ in this lab, a company can synthesize new
types of materials or composites that could revolutionize an industry.... Show more content on

Mexican Icons and Heores
The subject of the website entitled The Films of El Santo is El Santo. Numerous years after his
death, El Santo is still an icon of Mexican popular culture. Even though the comic book that
originally facilitated him to gain an enormous celebrity status is long gone, his films are still
available on tape, DVD, and on the internet. El Santowas born Rodolfo Guzman Huerta in 1917.
Huerta would go on to be the most celebrated wrestler in lucha libre. Santo is featured in 54 films,
and in these B grade movies, Santo would be called upon to dispatch such supernatural threats as
Dracula and Frankenstein. The websites purpose is to illustrate how the films of El Santowere
influenced by the growth and stability and after 1950. El Santo and his wrestling assisted rural
migrants to urban MexicoCity by showing them how to handle modernization and gave Mexicans
a representation of the ideal modern, Mexican man. El Santo is presented as a character that the
audience never sees in his films without his silver colored mask. What s more, in several films,
El Santo is even see sleeping in it. He is super in the eyes of his Mexican audience but apart from
the qualities of a victor wrestler, he has no scientific or supernatural powers. For his audience, he
is the same figure whether in the bizarre world of the films or in the wrestling ring a character who
lives in dual worlds, and never without his silver mask. Nonetheless, the wrestling abilities he
brings to the films permits him to

Capital Punishment In The Legal System
How often is capital punishment used effectively? Many cases are thrown out from issues with
evidence or lack of proper chemicals to use. Some people believe this is because of human right
activists fighting against it. However, many cases have had falsified evidence; There also has been
people proven innocence after they have been executed. Capital punishmentis ineffective and should
not be used in the United States legal system. There is bias and corruption in the legal system that
can lead to innocent people being put on death row, and many prisoners have been released from
death row because of false evidence or lack of strong evidence. This is supported by Bethany Webb
when she states I now watch knowingly as every few weeks across this country some new person
is freed from prison, having been exonerated by new evidence (par. 13). Also, the people on the
jury are sometimes biased, so... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Taxes cost significantly more than they would without capital punishment. According to Marshall
Frank, Studies have shown that the death penalty is 2 3 times more costly than if capital
punishment did not exist; much of the cost stems from endless appeals (par. 10). Also, the
resentencing of cases is costing a lot of money for what might just lead back to the same result as
before. The article Ending Death Penalty is Right in Every Possible way states millions of dollars
are being use to resentence hundreds of death penalty cases (Frank par. 4). The cost is too much,
especially when running the risk of executing innocent people.
To summarize although many argue that capital punishment is needed, the truth is innocence
people are put on death row from horrible evidence and are sometimes executed from the false
evidence. Capital punishment is instituted by a corrupt legal system, is extremely inhumane, and
costs too much money. The death penalty needs to be eliminated from the United States legal
system right

Somewhere in the remote Nevada desert is a chunk of land some six miles wide north to south and

Over that last decade Area 51 has also come to be associated with UFO s. There were stories that

How Animation Can Bring The Dullest Of The Features And...
Introduction
In a sense Animation can bring the dullest of the features and bring it to life. It s like magic that
gives the most seemingly inanimate objects different kind of emotions and vitality. Animation
made its way to the Multimedia as one of the most attractive and much sought component over the
years.
What is animation? To animate means to impart motion on something that cannot. Animation also
adds the essence of time, which increases the possibility of sending the desired information.
Animator need to specify how the thing they are animating move through time and space.
Decades ago when CGI doesn t exist animators were hand drawing plates for animated films and
cartoons, or relying on stop motion to create realistic effect. The birth of 3D animation was a long
process and cost billions and time to develop. Director of Avatar James Cameron waited around 20
years until 3D animation has advance before starting filming Avatar in 2009.

The Acquisition, Development And Use Of Language
The acquisition, development and use of language is universal. It is pivotal in being able to
communicate between others and is seen and heard in all cultures and countries. The notion that
language is seen is undeniable, for example; language is seen in printed format such as
advertisements, books, letters and lyrics. Printed languagecomprises of numbers, letters, symbols
and pictures and can together or separately tell a story or communicate a message. Furthermore,
language is observed through gestures, body language, dance, moving images and sign language.
Audible language consists of spoken words; singing, whistling, morse code, music and movies.
All modes of language assist in the delivery of meaningful information (Anstey Bull, 2006).
Language is extremely diverse, with over 7,097 known languages spoken throughout the world.
English is spoken by approximately 340 million people and is one of the world s most common
languages (SIL International, 2016). Over 230 countries are represented, 300 languages spoken and
more than 100 religions practiced in Australia alone (Department of Immigration and Citizenship,
2008). Throughout the world, there will be standardised forms of each language, which differ in
grammar and pronunciation from language that may be used in the home or other social settings.
Standard language is commonly used in government and educational discourses. This report will

American public gravitated toward to show their hatred for communism. Although this anti
communist effort was only most evident in the mid 20th century, the McCarthy strategy of creating
baseless claims against people continues to happen in today s society. The media has covered and

After World War I, America was having economic difficulties. William Wheeler and Susan Becker
said, The Bolshevik Revolution gave many Americans a convenient scapegoat for their postwar
troubles. A few Americans were involved in radical activities, as evidenced by the discovery of
numerous mail bombs intended for thirty six prominent government leaders. Americans, however,
identified communist conspirators as the cause of all their postwar difficulties (Wheeler 233). The
accusation of communists against America created the first hatred toward the organization.
Americans now believed that communism was not just a factor on the other side of the world. It
was now near their homes. The fear of communism was growing larger and larger with each

invention brought the War to new heights with total destruction seeming inevitable. More and more
countries were becoming communist, as well. Throughout the 1940s and 1950s America was

that communism would spread around the globe, eventually reaching the United States. The

Chapter 47 in Oliver Twist Essay
Chapter 47 in Oliver Twist
The opening paragraph of chapter 47 in Oliver Twist Fatal Consequences sets the scene for the rest
of the chapter. We are also given a detailed description of the character Fagin.
Straight away this demonstrates to us one of the techniques Dickens uses in his books. Giving the
chapter the title Fatal Consequences immediately gives the impression that something dark and evil
is going to happen. He tends to do this quite a lot throughout the chapter he hints to us, almost in
riddle, what is going to happen.

He uses adjectives such as distorted and hideous to give the reader the intended twisted image of
what Fagin looks like. Fagin is again made to sound evil by Dickens by being compared to a
phantom moist from the grave . This emphasises how bad he must look, either suggesting he
looks like a ghost or someone that has come back from the dead. (Or possibly both!) Another
way he could be described as inhuman is by Dickens describing his eyes as being red . It is quite
unlikely this was Dickens s intention, but it could suggest he is like the devil. This would be
even more of an insult to Fagin back in the time the book was written because people were much
more religious and the devil would be regarded as a much stronger figure of evil as it is now.
This isn t the only part of the chapter that Fagin is referred to as not being human. He is also
described as being similar to an animal. We first notice this when Dickens speaks of Fagin s long
black nails and then soon after when he talks about his teeth which should have been a dogs or rats
As well as the time Fagin is up making him sound evil, the way his home is described as a lair
does this too. It could also sound like the place an animal would live Dickens is constantly giving
hints to the reader about how evil Fagin is and we continue to notice this

Persuasive Essay On Animal Rights
Mahatma Gandhi once said, The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the
way its animals are treated. The social issue of animal rights first arose in the 1970s; since then the
animal rights movement has gained momentum and a considerable amount of followers Animal
Rights. Organizations like PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals
) hold demonstrations
and protests in the streets and outside businesses to denounce the maltreatment of animals. There
are two sides on this issue, those who believe that the life of an animal is inferior to that of a
human s and those who deem that animals deserve to have a life free of human interruption What
Are Animal Rights. Without animal rights, our society can be deemed unfettered by empathy and
restrained by immoral values.
To begin with, why support animal rights? Some people are not joining the animal rights
movement frankly because they are not informed and up to date with the controversy. The
general public is aware of the animal testing taking place in labs daily. Adopting this strategy was
an effortless decision as it produced results and did not put the lives of other humans in danger.
However, the public isn t aware that the results provided aren t always guaranteed to be reliable
and that animals sometimes suffer slow, painful deaths as a result of these experiments. Our society
holds gruesome double standards, we would not dare think about holding experiments on our loved
ones, so why do we

Libya’s Reconciliation with the West Essay
As current events continue to unfold, a part of the Arab world is at a major crossroads, pursuing
a change in foreign policy and a new attitude toward the West not witnessed in at least three
decades. A departure from international isolation is preceding a steadily growing rapprochement
with the world s military hegemon. This poses the prospect of a future as a key player in not only
its own regional affairs but in major global politics, as well as the opportunity for greater economic
growth and development and the establishment of integrated multilateral trade. But the country in
question is not Iraq or Iran or any of the other familiar members of the Persian Gulf it is Libya, one
of the most isolated and overlooked states in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Libya s reconciliation with the West is most important in the aspects of relations with the United
Nations, the United Kingdom, and the United States, which will be the greatest focus of this paper.
In 1942, the Allies of World War II ousted Italy from Libya, a colony it had held since 1911, and
France and Britain began to administer separate parts of the country. After becoming the first
country to gain its independence through the United Nations in 1951, Libya entered a short
period of constitutional monarchy under King Idris al Sanusi. In 1959, the discovery of oil led
the previously poor Libya to become extremely wealthy as oil began to be transported via pipeline
and exported to foreign markets. U.S. Libyan relations between 1951 and 1969 were relatively
good both politically and economically. The U.S. supported the U.N. resolution giving Libya
independence and both countries ultimately established embassy level missions in one another s
capital.1 U.S. access to Libya s oil market was also strong as two American companies were
granted 14 million acres of oil fields.2
But unequal distributions of wealth within the country as well as pan Arab ideas rejecting Western
influence soon fueled popular resentment and led to revolution. In
1969, Idris was deposed in a bloodless coup by a small group of army officers led by 28 year old
Colonel Mu ammar Abu Minyar al Qadhafi, whose regime embarked on a

Exodus And Job Bring Different Experiences For The Readers...
The book of Exodus and Job bring different experiences for the reader to interpret. Exodus
discusses the Jewish exile out of the land of Egypt and into the promise land, but violence reigns
heavy in this book toward the Pharaoh. Where as in the book of Job, Job is harassed by God,
and Satan, to test his will and faithfulness to the almighty. Although these two books may be
discussing different points in time they are also similar in their discussion of violence. The land
of Egypt is struck with plague after plaque by the hand of God, and in Job God allows Satan to
torment Jog, take all of his possessions, and even kill his family. Exodus authors write in a pre
exilic setting where Jewish people are still being ruled, where as Job is written in a more post
exilic setting and both of these settings create different responses. Violence is a major
component of both of these books, and how they are written and perceived. As stated above
Exodus was written during the pre exilic times for the people of Israel. This type of environment
could account for some of the ways in which the story of Exodus is told. God wants to help the
Jewish people escape the clutches of Egypt, Then the Lord said, I have observed the misery of
my people who are in Egypt; I have heard their cry on account of their taskmasters. Indeed, I
know their sufferings, and I have come down to deliver them from the Egyptians. (Exodus, 3:7 8).
God is foreshadowing what he will do, in terms of violence, to free

It s Time For The Final Round Of Competition
It s time for the final round of competition. You ve been working hard all year, and it s about to
pay off. Once you are on that field you perform the best you ever have. Once you get off you feel
proud and accomplished. However, this year that feeling, might have not been repeated.
The Evergreen Marching Band and Colorguard (EMBC) has had this feeling for more than two
decades. A lot of people don t know, that we re not just a normal halftime marching band, we are
a competitive marching band. We travel to competitions in Washington and Oregon. This
program has been around for a couple decades, and we don t want to stop now. However, the
competitive program was about to be nonexistent this year, due to lack of funds. A lot of students
and parents were upset at the thought of no competitive season. All of us in this program feel as if
that s the best part of the season. If we lost that it wouldn t bee as much fun. We were so far in
debt that if we couldn t raise enough money, it would ve been game over.
This wouldn t be a problem though, if we had more money in our budget to do our competitive
season. We only receive $1000 which is for the whole band program, according to our band
director. My school district needs to fund the EMBC program separately from the regular band
programs. I am not saying that their program isn t as important, but we, the EMBC, require more
funding for our award winning program. A way we can do that is by moving around funding from

Exchange Rate Is The Price Of A Nation s Currency
Exchange Rate
The exchange rate is the price of a nation s currency in terms of another currency. The domestic
currency and the foreign currency are the two components of an exchange rate. In a direct
quotation, the price of the foreign currency is expressed in terms of the domestic currency and the
vise versa is the indirect currency. Most exchange rates use the US dollar as their base currency and
other currencies as the counter currency. There a few exceptions, the Euro and commonwealth
currencies such as the Australian dollar, the British pound and the New Zealand dollar

DISCUSSION
The objective of this study is to examine the differences between the vegan and omnivore diet and
to study the relationship of these diets to body composition, blood lipids, and the serum hormones
vitamin D and parathyroid hormone. As seen previously, those eating an omnivore diet consumed
significantly more dietary protein than those consuming a vegan diet (2; 3). The values we
observed for dietary protein in both the vegan and the omnivore groups were similar to those seen
by Hadded et al. (3) and Janelle and Barr (2). The women in our study eating an omnivore diet
exceeded the RDA for protein. In contrast to other studies of vegetarians and vegans, our ... Show

We found no significant difference between the two diet groups in the serum vitamin D levels. A
study of vegan women in Finland found vegans to be deficient in vitamin D intake without
supplements or adequate sunlight exposure through vacations in sunny locations (12). The vegan
women in our study had adequate serum vitamin D levels, which may be the result of 1)
incorporating enough vitamin D in their diets possibly using fortified foods and supplements; 2)
they were exposed to adequate sunlight or 3) a combination of both.
Although reviews of the vegetarian diet (5; 13) warn that deficiencies in several micronutrients are
possible, the only marginal nutrient we found in the vegan group is calcium intake. There are
several possible reasons for this difference. Vegans may be more health conscious, physically more
active, and have a greater understanding of the role of nutrition in general health. As a result, they
may also consume more supplements. Another contributing factor may be the recent increase in
commercially available foods fortified with a wide variety of vitamins and minerals that may lead
to higher levels of intake when whole diets are examined. These results may be somewhat biased
compared to the general population because we studied young adult college women primarily.
Another possible confounding factor is the

Ginseng Environmental Problems
Environmental Problems linked to ginseng production in Ontario:
However, although consumption of ginseng has a lot of health benefits, but growing ginseng comes
up with a lot of environmental problems in Ontario.
Ginseng plants can only be harvested after 3 5 years of maturation and it also has to be under
specific conditions such as rich sandy soils, moisture, shades and appropriate temperature to
produce high quality ginseng roots (Antonacci, 2014). . Also, growing ginseng plants requires a
lot of land, because after ginseng roots are harvested from a land, a particular fungus will
develop in to the soil and so that land cannot grow any other forms of ginseng plants (Hoag,
2015). This means ginseng farmers have to frequently seek out for new land available to grow and
harvest other forms of ginseng plants to produce a variety of ginseng products. The exploitation of
lands for ginseng production will not stop as the demand for ginseng products are increasing and it
will cause greater damage to the environment.
When ginseng plants are made into products, only the root will be used, as other parts of the plant
have no nutritional and medical value (Liu, 2017). This means other parts of the plant is useless
and will be disposed as waste, contributing to environmental damages.
Also, because of the high demand for ginseng, people were picking wild ginseng in forests (in
Southern Ontario) causing ginseng becoming an endangered species having a very low
reproduction rate

Dating From The Dynastic Period Of Egypt
Dating from the Dynastic Period of Egypt (3000 2938 BCE), the Narmer Pallet is one of the
most important archeological findings to date. Previous to king Narmer, Lower and Upper
Egypt were divided and frequently at war with each other. The common belief of most historians
is that the unification of Lower and Upper Egypt was due to the influence and propaganda of
King Narmer and his court. On one side of the palette, king Narmer is pictured with the bulbed
white crown of Upper Egypt, while on the other side, it portrays the king wearing the crown of
Lower Egypt, the papyrus. Illustrating one of the earliest known characterizations of an
Egyptian king, the palette has be referred to as the first historical document in the world by
Egyptologist Bob Brier. Historians regard King Narmer as the king who unified Lower and
Upper Egypt, and thus the father of the Early Dynastic Period. Carved from a single piece of
dark gray green siltstone, the Narmer Palette is shield shaped and stands at about 63 centimeters
tall. In the past, the stone has often been misidentified as being a slate or schist. Slate is layered
and prone to flaking, while schist is a metamorphic rock containing large, unevenly distributed
mineral grains. Both slate and schist are unlike the finely grained siltstone, which was used
continuously during the pre dynastic period for creating palettes, and also was used as a source for
Old Kingdom statuary art. The Palette, which has survived five millennia in almost

Groundwater Pumping In Florida
Groundwater Pumping The state of Florida is very dependent on groundwater, primarily for
public and agricultural supply. Indeed, the largest source of drinking water in Florida is
groundwater from the state s massive aquifer system; approximately ninety percent of the state s
drinking water is extracted from groundwater sources (Marella, 2004). According to Marella
(2004), Between 1970 and 2000, total freshwater withdrawals increased for public supply by 176
percent and for agricultural self supplied by 87 percent (p. 1). As discussed previously, a
growing population correlates with an increase in the demand for groundwater resources.
Groundwater is currently being pumped out of Florida s aquifers faster than the state s
abundant rainfall can refill them (Barnett, 2007, p.2). The excessive pumping of groundwater
can create subsurface voids because of the lowering of the water table, which can lead to the
development of sinkholes due to gravity and a loss of fluid pressure support (Tihansky, 1999, p.
132). Waltham et al (2005) contend, The most widespread cause of induced sinkholes is any form
of water table decline, where the vertical drainage is quite literally drawn down to greater depths
(p. 165). In brief,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Associated activities may include installing drainage systems, grading slopes, ditching for storm
drainages, and conduits for service utilities. The disturbance of natural patterns of runoff and
rainwater infiltration through modified drainage can lead to the concentration of water flow at sites
that previously only took direct rainwater infiltration; this can result in rapid forming cover
subsidence sinkholes (Waltham et al, 2005, p. 159). The many impervious surfaces used in
modified drainage activities also impedes groundwater recharge, which can consequently lower the

Power Of Literature Essay
Literature comes in all forms; its basically everything around us. Movies, books, newspaper,
songs, posters, magazines, these are examples of literature. Like the many forms of literature, it
also has many purposes; literature is used as a source of entertainment, it in forms people, and it
also enlightens them with knowledge. Ever since we entered school, we have constantly been
questioned, asked to reflect upon what we read and to analysis what we read, watch and see. All
we have been doing since day one had been analysing literature. Don t you think there must be a
reason for all these years of analysing everything? I ve finally come to the conclusion that all those
years of analysing was to prove to us the power of literature. To some extent literature has the
power to refute and/or reinforce our prejudiceand bias. Literature is able to do this because it is
able to open us to the different social and cultural standing around the world, we can always
connect with literature, it comes in many forms and it s composed of facts.
Literature opens our eyes to the different social and cultural standings around the world. For
instance, in the book Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini, Hassani s parents had believed
that education was important and put hassani in school but they married her off at the young age
of 13. She was sent away from her family to live with her husband and his family. Prior to reading

Achilles Vs. Hector
Being an epic about war between Greeks and The Trojan, the Iliad confronts the fact that
everyone is destined to die. The battles in the epic are full of reports of the deaths of men who
appear in the story in order to die. To some, it s seen as natural because, Like the generations of
leaves, the lives of mortal men, as one generation comes to life, another dies away, (Book 6). Two
characters that are so alike yet so differing as a Greek warrior, Achilles, and the Prince of Troy,
Hector, know what it feels like to battle when death is around the corner. The focus on Achilles
and Hector enables the readers to regard both sides of the armies evenly. However, it also apprises

Society depends on the bonds of love and family, and Hektor encompasses and fights for those
bonds. This brief insight into Hector s life shows that Hector has something worth fighting for
and something worth protecting. This makes his character incredibly tragic, as it is well known
to the audience that Hector will certainly die and there will be no one to protect Andromache or
his child. His strength and humanity is also shown through his continuing to fight, instead of
staying in safety behind the Trojan walls with his family. This loyalty to Troy shows Hector s
importance to the Trojan cause. It is established in this scene that the Trojan success depends
entirely on Hector. This scene also foreshadows the death of Hector, the fall of Troy and of the
fate of Andromache and Astyanax. It is this foreshadowing which makes the scene all the more
poignant and therefore tragic. At the end of book six, Andromache stirs her servant women to
lament and mourn for Hector despite the fact that he is not yet dead. This shows the audience that
Andromache is certain Hector will die, it signifies the effect that his death will have on the citizens
of Troy, thus giving the impression that Hector is a tragic

Judgment In The Scarlett Letter
The Scarlett Letter is an 1850 work of fiction written by Nathaniel Hawthorne. The story is set up in
the 17th century in Puritan Boston Massachusets and it mainly focuses on the life of a woman,
Hester Prynne and how she struggles to gain respect from the community after having committed
adultery. Throughout the book, themes such as sin, isolation, and judgment are explored.
Hawthorne uses the theme of judgment to convey ideas about the strictness of the puritan society.
This theme is explored from the beginning of the book up until the end. Hawthorne uses characters
such as Dimmesdale, Pearl, and Hester to show this theme and the ways in which it impacts their
lives. The theme of Judgment is evident in the first chapter when Hester was standing on the
scaffold... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because the woman asks if there is a law for her to die we are made aware of the fact that many
people based their judgments on the law and that they didn t think on their own at all. However,
not all the community is as strict, and one of the youngest women tries to stand up for Hester.
This action supports Hawthorne s idea of women diminishment in roughness over generations.
The young woman says: Not a stitch in that embroidered letter but she has felt it in her heart
(41). This shows how she understood that Hester was judging herself harshly enough and that she
barely cared about other s judgments towards her. Also, because this woman was not raised in
such strict manners she was not blinded by the puritan laws and she was able to understand better
Hester s condition. Apart from that, Hester is more independent because she doesn t rely on a
husband and this creates a reason for this woman to admire and defend her. Pearl is another
character who is subjected to judgment as a result of Hester s sin. Indeed, many puritan mothers
who are deep rooted on their beliefs try to prevent their own children from playing with

Where Worlds Collide By Pico Iyer
Where Worlds Collide is an essay by Pico Iyer who talks about the expectations and reality of Los
Angeles through the perspectives of travelers from different backgrounds. In Where Worlds Collide,
Pico Iyer argues that even though Los Angeles is depicted as a vicinity to receive wealth, happiness,
and many opportunities it is actually the antithesis, and instead, many harsh prejudice and unending
craziness will occur instead; Iyer argues this by using allusions, anaphoras, and juxtapositions to
help convey what he is saying.
In the beginning of this passage, Iyer starts off with a lively and narrative tone to introduce a
biblical allusion in the first paragraph; Iyer explains how many travelers come out from the airplane
to reach their final destination, the Promised Land. This allusion sparks an interest to the readers
because Iyer is referring to the Los Angeles International Airportas the Promised Land. Throughout
the essay, Iyer refers to the LAX as the Land of Opportunity Iyer is using these two allusions to
help paint a picture of what the LAX means to these naive travelers, a place filled with hopes and
dreams. These allusions help correspond to the jubilance of the author s tone and helps keep the
writing capture the author s passion about his story.
Later in Iyer s passage, he uses anaphoras to help solidify the hectic attributes of the LAX, which
contradicts the supposed Promised Land. Iyer describes how the second thing that the travelers see
is that [i]n front of them is a Van Stop, a Bus Stop, a Courtesy Tram Stop, and a Shuttle Bus Stop...
(101). The repetition of stop is utilized to show that all of these stops are bombarding their way
through towards the travelers just as if everything is going out of control. The scenery that Iyer is
depicting is about a hectic airport, not about a Promised Land. Iyer includes more anaphoras as he
talks about how [t]hey have already braved the ranks of Asian officials, the criminal looking
security men in jackets... They already, perhaps, visited the restroom where someone has written,
Yes on Proposition 187. Mexicans go home... (101). The anaphoras being used in this example

The American Institute Of Architects
What is IPD (Integrated Project Delivery) as it applies to construction? Generally speaking here
is how it works: IPD is a process where a team of everyone involved in the project gets together
and create a plan then continue to be involved to see it through completion. The team is bound
together by contract legally and stands to gain or lose financially as a whole by the outcome of the
project. The American Institute of Architects (AIA) currently defines IPD as a project delivery
methodthat integrates people, systems, business structures and practices into a process that
collaboratively harnesses the talents and insights of all participants to reduce waste and optimize
efficiency through all phases of design, fabrication and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These goals may vary, but are usually associated with cost, schedule and quality metrics commonly
used to measure project success. Over time, businesses are adopting the integrated project delivery
and project partnering in place of traditional delivery methods. IPD works in a way such so that
team members integrate with each other. IPD is an effective tool because it involves all team
members who work collaboratively to ensure the success of the project. For this project delivery
organization to succeed, members of the team must commit to a true partnership. IPD demands a
higher level of trust and engagement of not only the conception and construction team members,
but also from the client, owner, and end users. IPD also fosters collaboration such that schedules
are not only planned, but also developed by all the members involved as well.
The difference between traditional and integrated project delivery is significant. For instance during
traditional project delivery the conception and planning stages would include a limited team such as
the engineers and architects. The plans would then be passed to the construction team and from
there after groundbreaking the construction team takes over. With integrated project delivery the
construction team would be present during planning and the designers and engineers would be
present during construction phase. Initially, the

Nacirema Culture Essay
This is about a culture called Nacirema that is practiced in many different place and was brought to
the attention of the Anthropologist attention by Professor Linton to talk about this culture that was
poorly understood. The Nacirema is a type of culture that is summed up as that these people that
believe in this culture that the humanbody is ugly and that the natural tendencies are meant to
debilitate and cause disease. They are also big believes in rituals and ceremonies in the household
to preform these ceremonies either as a family but in most cases it was privately. Where they would

The thing that I find most compelling about this culture is how they have manage to stand the
test of time with there harsh standards they have placed upon themselves do to their beliefs in
these magical rituals and ceremonies. The one type of ritual that I think is the most interesting
to me is the fact hat they believed in some of these magical rituals and ceremonies so much that
they would actually sometimes toucher themselves to complete these rituals that are supposed
to heal or help you but in the process bring unbelievable pain in some cases. Another thing that I
found to actually be crude and unsetting is the fact that if you were sick they would literally
quarantine you and if you don t get better you are just left to die. Especially young children the
fact they they would have a place designated for sick kids to basically go and die since younger
kids have a lesser chance of surviving then adults do. The temple that was used was literally the
place they kids where supposed to go to die. There were things that I found interesting and there are
thing that I have strong feeling against because they go against my morals. These groups of humans
and the culture that they believe in is very harsh due to all the different rituals and ceremonies that
they have. The culture that they believe in also dictates

Privatized Nursing Homes
Quality of life is elusive. Quality of life is complicated, multi faceted, and subjective.
Conventional ways of measuring it have emerged, mostly in terms of access to technology, level
of fulfillment of basic needs, etc. Certainly it is very difficult to have a high quality of life
without having a consistent or stable source of food for your family or yourself. But in the end,
the question of defining quality of life seems to be, unavoidably, self determined. In addition the
quality of nursing homes and long term care is determined by privatized companies who end goal
is to make profits. In LTC and nursing homes it is advertised that, every department is involved in
implementing quality management to offer the best quality of service;... Show more content on

If as Canadian we recognized the kind of active state presence in LTC that we see reflected in the
framing of Medicare, we would identify the related elements in LTC. This would be done by
ensuring citizens the access to basic levels of services by federal intervention to ensure
reasonable outcomes. Attention to policy is key in order to assure access and rights of LTC
services. Like the right to choose physicians, or accommodating the different special needs of old
people and protect their rights. Aronson and Neysmith the authors of The Retreat of the State and
Long Term Care Provision suggest bring a more active government into the policy making in
Canada. Although this can be challenging it presence social development which is presented in
European policy making. The authors stress the importance of voicing alternative measurements in
LTC to better provide greater security and equality in policies which is affecting a larger number
of Canadian citizens and those who care for them. By providing education and alternative methods
of understanding, this provides challenging methods to provide better security and equality to

Theme Of Tikki Maurii
The theme of Rikki Tikki Tavi is putting others in front of yourself, meaning that you care about
them more than you care about yourself. It is almost like the golden rule, do unto others as you
would have them done onto you. This is recurring theme from Rikki Tikki Tavi, the mongoose
constantly puts himself in harms way to save the familythat had nursed him back to health. Rikki
Tikki has gone out of his way to help others despite them not doing anything in return. From saving
the life of Teddy, to saving everyone living in the bungalow.
In the first part of the story Rikki Tikki helps the birds bring justice to Nag, the snake who ate the
baby bird the nest. Darzee and his wife told Rikki Tikki about what just happened, they say that ...

He once more risked his life by saving the big man, he could have been beaten to death. He threw
himself to kill Nag and held tightly as he was being banged against the walls while Nag was
trying to get rid of Rikki Tikki. He braced for death, but all that came was Nag s death. The brave
mongoose even saved the lives of the family as a whole. He saved them when Nagaina was
threatening to kill the whole family if they did not move or if they did she would also kill them.
Rikki Tikki had come with one egg in his mouth to bargain with Nagaina about not killing the
family. He fought Nagaina, and chased her away from the table where Teddy s family was eating.
He ricked being killed by Nagaina when he went to down a hole. Mongooses that are young are
known not to survive this event, yet Rikki Tikki did. He risked a very sad death for the sake of the
family.
Rikki Tikki basically saved all of the creatures from the bungalow from Nag and Nagaina. Rikki
Tikki wanted the bungalow free of snakes, just like a mongoose would have it. He did the favor
the birds asked him to help them with and stayed with the plan the whole time. He stayed even
though the one snake problem ended up being a much bigger snake problem. He did the family
a favor back in exchange for them saving his life, Rikki Tikki saved them as well. In fact he did
the whole bungalow a favor for killing the snakes, the text mentioned it on page 243, that the birds
were singing and the frogs were croaking.

Gambling and Sports
Should Sports Gambling Be Legalized?
Gambling is a common practice throughout human history, one that appeals to the individual s
desire for gain and offers the thrill of risk or uncertainty. Sports gambling is the wagering of
money or other items of value on the outcome of a sporting event, dependent either wholly or in
part on chance (Thompson, 2008, p. 1). Sports gambling generates billions of dollars annually,
with large events like the Super Bowl or World Series alone able to generate wagers in the
billions of dollars. This research will explore the arguments of those who oppose sports gambling
and those who support it in order to answer the question: Should sports gambling be legalized?
There are many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Thompson (2008), as of 2008 there were over 150 racetracks operating in the U.S.,
with annual wagers on horse racing totaling more than $16 billion. Dog racing is also legal in a
number of states, but it is not as popular or widespread as horse racing. Proponents of sports
gambling maintain betting on such events generates lucrative revenues, provides thousands of
jobs, and offers sports bettors a means of entertainment and a chance for gain. Despite these
arguments, there are a number of sound arguments put forth by those who remain staunchly
opposed to legalizing sports gambling in the U.S. One of the biggest reasons opponents of
sports gambling are opposed to wagering on sporting events is because of the potential for
sports gambling to result in fixed sporting events and ultimately undermining the integrity of
professional and amateur sports in the U.S. As Thompson (2008) explains, sports gambling
remains illegal and heavily regulated by the government because of the potential for events to be
fixed, or illegally influenced (using bribes or other forms of compensation) (p. 2). It is not that
difficult to see how this might happen, since numerous sports gambling scandals have occurred
in the past. The 1919 World Series was fixed by Chicago White Sox players. Pete Rose was
banned from baseball and denied admittance to the Baseball Hall of Fame because of his admission
to gambling on sporting events while he

A Interview At An Interview
Shortly after the submission of my application, I received an email inviting me to the interview
that would be conducted in company s office in London. Overall, in my opinion, I did my best in
terms of the preparation. I researched the company s history, read about its most popular products
and familiarized myself with the recent industry and company s news (Burke and Thurgood 2007).
A week prior to the interviewdate I attended an interview preparation session organized by the
Careers Office which, as noted by Spears (1979), was supposed to help me feel more comfortable
during the actual interview. As a result, I had, what Bandura (1982) would call a high level of self
efficacy, meaning that I hold an opinion that I would succeed in an interview.
Turning attention to the actual interview, it was conducted face to face on company s premises
and my interviewer was a middle aged white woman. From the first seconds of the interview she
had an open body language and she maintained a good eye contact. Armstrong (2012) indicates
that such behaviour helps to establish the good rapport with the applicant and it was certainly
true in my case. It was a structured employment interview as I was asked a set of prepared
questions (Levashina et al. 2014) that explored if I possessed skills and competencies required for
the job position. As the interviewer followed the script, it led to the consistency in information
received, implying more accurate selection decision (Garcia et al. 2008).

In contrast to the hair women keep on their heads, body hair only tend to be a relevant issue when we re aiming to remove it. But not even in commercials for hair removal products we re confronted with it: either the unshaved body sections are hidden with foam, or we re exposed to the hairless result of shaving. There is both a verbal and a visual absence of women s body hair in our culture, which could be explained by the taboos that surrounds the subject. • 3. Effects Of Captive Enrichment On Fish Production Essay Effects of Captive Enrichment on Fish Production: Fathead Minnows (Pimephales promelas) Introduction Environmental enrichment for fish in captive environments has not been studied often, unlike that of mammals. However, in the last decade there have been more attempts to study it. Moreover, structural environmental enrichment is the focal point at this time. Structural environmental enrichment is the addition of a structure (e.g. toys, buoys, artificial vegetation) to the rearing environment (Naslund Johnsson, 2014). Enrichment can affect a variety of aspects of the biology of captive fish, such as, stress, injury, disease susceptibility, aggression, and energy expenditure (Gerber et al., 2015)). A recent study conducted by Naslund and Johnsson (2014), found that environmental enrichment can be divided into groups. These groups include: physical enrichment, sensory enrichment, dietary enrichment, social enrichment, and occupational enrichment. Since, some of those are difficult to test, physical enrichment is what is being studied now. All species of fish are not the same and prefer certain substrates rather than others. Therefore, since the Fathead Minnows that we will be studying and conducting this research on, will depend on what they prefer. The goal of this study is to test whether captive enrichment effects the reproduction success of P. promelas. Background Fat Head minnows can survive in a variety of environments such as creeks, headwaters, rivers, lakes, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Persuasive Essay On Ocean Pollution Throughout many decades there has been a huge environmental problem, not only putting marine life at risk but also human health. Ocean pollution is a big threat to the habitat and still today we haven t stopped throwing trash, chemicals or toxins into the oceans. During the 1940 s, a technical service of the Army dumped a lot of chemical warfare into the sea, believing the type of gas will dissolve in the water becoming harmless in minutes. At that time, fishermen were able to catch a lot of fish, it wasn t until they were out of luck and all they could see were dead fish floating on the surface. Many people think that oil spills and trash are the only types of ocean pollution, but they re also forgetting about chemical, bacterial and thermal pollution. Polluted seas can be the cause of many diseases or infections, especially if people don t take big measures like telling their kids not to accidentally drink water from rivers or lakes when swimming. Marine animals are a big part of our food chain if they carry diseases or toxins we re also in big danger. Today, there have been many people who have been trying to stop others from polluting the oceans, but they still haven t been able to convince the whole world to end ocean pollution. The government, instead of wasting money on unnecessary things like building walls or building more towers and creating more trash they should build trash contractors that will help with the trash floating around in the seas. I quickly ask him, What is wrong with my knee? He replied, Well it is not the worst thing that could have happened, but you did tear your meniscus. This did not come as much of a surprise because I have had people telling me for the past two weeks that something probably had torn, most likely was my meniscus. The news actually came as a little bit of a relief because a meniscus tear was the quickest recovery time. Then the doctor started talking about what he could do to fix it. • 8. The Conseption Of Powingder In The Movie Powder And You Re... Xenophobia came from the Greek word xenos which means a foreigner. According to Healthtopia, Xenophobia is the condition where the person feels threatened and terror when confronted by a person with a different background. The movie Powder and You Re Not Alone are example of why we are afraid of strangers. Not all strangers are bad people. Some strangers you have to look out for and others could be really good people. Powder is an albino teenage boy who is very intelligent and was shunned after the death of his last relative. People started judging and criticizing powder, not even knowing who he was, what he looked like, or the type of person he was. The special abilities that he had made him an outcast. In the readings it says, The stranger in town becomes shrouded with suspension. Every action is scrutinized. Every inaction is a sign of guilt. The writer s argument is, don t judge a book by its cover. After the death of one of his grandparents, he is discovered and sent to state home where he has trouble fitting in. His unusual appearance and abilities caused the people in the town to mock and fear him. Sheriff Barnum s wife, Emma is sick and in a coma and sheriff is unsure of what he should to help her. Jessie asks Powder to pay Emma a visit to see if he could help. He touches Emma and shares her thoughts with the sheriff. It becomes clear to Powder that he will fit in with the others, so he runs away and goes back home. Had they not judged him, they would be able to see the good and potential in him. The writer/director wants the audience to think that our judgements and criticism shields us from seeing the good and beauty in someone or something. His point is that we only perceive what is in front of us. We as people are afraid of strangers because we taught to. The word stranger has a series of definitions. According to Dictionary.com, A stranger can be a person with whom one has had no acquaintance, a newcomer in a place or locality. An outsider, or a person who is not a member of the family, group, community, or a visitor. The Intended audience seems to be Adults, or anyone into fantasy and mystery movies. Another way he could be described as inhuman is by Dickens describing his eyes as being red . It is quite unlikely this was Dickens s intention, but it could suggest he is like the devil. This would be even more of an insult to Fagin back in the time the book was written because people were much more religious and the devil would be regarded as a much stronger figure of evil as it is now. • 23. Persuasive Essay On Animal Rights Mahatma Gandhi once said, The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated. The social issue of animal rights first arose in the 1970s; since then the animal rights movement has gained momentum and a considerable amount of followers Animal Rights. Organizations like PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals ) hold demonstrations and protests in the streets and outside businesses to denounce the maltreatment of animals. There are two sides on this issue, those who believe that the life of an animal is inferior to that of a human s and those who deem that animals deserve to have a life free of human interruption What Are Animal Rights. Without animal rights, our society can be deemed unfettered by empathy and restrained by immoral values. To begin with, why support animal rights? Some people are not joining the animal rights movement frankly because they are not informed and up to date with the controversy. The general public is aware of the animal testing taking place in labs daily. Adopting this strategy was an effortless decision as it produced results and did not put the lives of other humans in danger. However, the public isn t aware that the results provided aren t always guaranteed to be reliable and that animals sometimes suffer slow, painful deaths as a result of these experiments. Libya’s Reconciliation with the West Essay As current events continue to unfold, a part of the Arab world is at a major crossroads, pursuing a change in foreign policy and a new attitude toward the West not witnessed in at least three decades. A departure from international isolation is preceding a steadily growing rapprochement with the world s military hegemon. This poses the prospect of a future as a key player in not only its own regional affairs but in major global politics, as well as the opportunity for greater economic growth and development and the establishment of integrated multilateral trade. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Libya s reconciliation with the West is most important in the aspects of relations with the United Nations, the United Kingdom, and the United States, which will be the greatest focus of this paper. In 1942, the Allies of World War II ousted Italy from Libya, a colony it had held since 1911, and France and Britain began to administer separate parts of the country. After becoming the first country to gain its independence through the United Nations in 1951, Libya entered a short period of constitutional monarchy under King Idris al Sanusi. In 1959, the discovery of oil led the previously poor Libya to become extremely wealthy as oil began to be transported via pipeline and exported to foreign markets. U.S. Libyan relations between 1951 and 1969 were relatively good both politically and economically. The U.S. supported the U.N. resolution giving Libya independence and both countries ultimately established embassy level missions in one another s capital.1 U.S. access to Libya s oil market was also strong as two American companies were granted 14 million acres of oil fields.2 But unequal distributions of wealth within the country as well as pan Arab ideas rejecting Western influence soon fueled popular resentment and led to revolution. In 1969, Idris was deposed in a bloodless coup by a small group of army officers led by 28 year old Colonel Mu ammar Abu Minyar al Qadhafi, whose regime embarked on a ... • 25. Exodus And Job Bring Different Experiences For The Readers... The book of Exodus and Job bring different experiences for the reader to interpret. Exodus discusses the Jewish exile out of the land of Egypt and into the promise land, but violence reigns heavy in this book toward the Pharaoh. Where as in the book of Job, Job is harassed by God, and Satan, to test his will and faithfulness to the almighty. Although these two books may be discussing different points in time they are also similar in their discussion of violence. The land of Egypt is struck with plague after plaque by the hand of God, and in Job God allows Satan to torment Jog, take all of his possessions, and even kill his family. Exodus authors write in a pre exilic setting where Jewish people are still being ruled, where as Job is written in a more post exilic setting and both of these settings create different responses. Violence is a major component of both of these books, and how they are written and perceived. As stated above Exodus was written during the pre exilic times for the people of Israel. This type of environment could account for some of the ways in which the story of Exodus is told. God wants to help the Jewish people escape the clutches of Egypt, Then the Lord said, I have observed the misery of my people who are in Egypt; I have heard their cry on account of their taskmasters. Indeed, I know their sufferings, and I have come down to deliver them from the Egyptians. (Exodus, 3:7 8). God is foreshadowing what he will do, in terms of violence, to free ... Once you are on that field you perform the best you ever have. Once you get off you feel proud and accomplished. However, this year that feeling, might have not been repeated. The Evergreen Marching Band and Colorguard (EMBC) has had this feeling for more than two decades. A lot of people don t know, that we re not just a normal halftime marching band, we are a competitive marching band. We travel to competitions in Washington and Oregon. This program has been around for a couple decades, and we don t want to stop now. However, the competitive program was about to be nonexistent this year, due to lack of funds. As seen previously, those eating an omnivore diet consumed significantly more dietary protein than those consuming a vegan diet (2; 3). The values we observed for dietary protein in both the vegan and the omnivore groups were similar to those seen by Hadded et al. (3) and Janelle and Barr (2). We found no significant difference between the two diet groups in the serum vitamin D levels. A study of vegan women in Finland found vegans to be deficient in vitamin D intake without supplements or adequate sunlight exposure through vacations in sunny locations (12). The vegan women in our study had adequate serum vitamin D levels, which may be the result of 1) incorporating enough vitamin D in their diets possibly using fortified foods and supplements; 2) they were exposed to adequate sunlight or 3) a combination of both. Although reviews of the vegetarian diet (5; 13) warn that deficiencies in several micronutrients are possible, the only marginal nutrient we found in the vegan group is calcium intake. There are several possible reasons for this difference. Vegans may be more health conscious, physically more active, and have a greater understanding of the role of nutrition in general health. As a result, they may also consume more supplements. Another contributing factor may be the recent increase in commercially available foods fortified with a wide variety of vitamins and minerals that may lead to higher levels of intake when whole diets are examined. These results may be somewhat biased compared to the general population because we studied young adult college women primarily. Another possible confounding factor is the ... • 30. Ginseng Environmental Problems Environmental Problems linked to ginseng production in Ontario: However, although consumption of ginseng has a lot of health benefits, but growing ginseng comes up with a lot of environmental problems in Ontario. Ginseng plants can only be harvested after 3 5 years of maturation and it also has to be under specific conditions such as rich sandy soils, moisture, shades and appropriate temperature to produce high quality ginseng roots (Antonacci, 2014). . Also, growing ginseng plants requires a lot of land, because after ginseng roots are harvested from a land, a particular fungus will develop in to the soil and so that land cannot grow any other forms of ginseng plants (Hoag, 2015). This means ginseng farmers have to frequently seek out for new land available to grow and harvest other forms of ginseng plants to produce a variety of ginseng products. The exploitation of lands for ginseng production will not stop as the demand for ginseng products are increasing and it will cause greater damage to the environment. When ginseng plants are made into products, only the root will be used, as other parts of the plant have no nutritional and medical value (Liu, 2017). This means other parts of the plant is useless and will be disposed as waste, contributing to environmental damages. Also, because of the high demand for ginseng, people were picking wild ginseng in forests (in Southern Ontario) causing ginseng becoming an endangered species having a very low reproduction rate ... • 31. Dating From The Dynastic Period Of Egypt Dating from the Dynastic Period of Egypt (3000 2938 BCE), the Narmer Pallet is one of the most important archeological findings to date. Previous to king Narmer, Lower and Upper Egypt were divided and frequently at war with each other. The common belief of most historians is that the unification of Lower and Upper Egypt was due to the influence and propaganda of King Narmer and his court. On one side of the palette, king Narmer is pictured with the bulbed white crown of Upper Egypt, while on the other side, it portrays the king wearing the crown of Lower Egypt, the papyrus. Illustrating one of the earliest known characterizations of an Egyptian king, the palette has be referred to as the first historical document in the world by Egyptologist Bob Brier. Historians regard King Narmer as the king who unified Lower and Upper Egypt, and thus the father of the Early Dynastic Period. Carved from a single piece of dark gray green siltstone, the Narmer Palette is shield shaped and stands at about 63 centimeters tall. In the past, the stone has often been misidentified as being a slate or schist. Slate is layered and prone to flaking, while schist is a metamorphic rock containing large, unevenly distributed mineral grains. Both slate and schist are unlike the finely grained siltstone, which was used continuously during the pre dynastic period for creating palettes, and also was used as a source for Old Kingdom statuary art. • 32. Groundwater Pumping In Florida Groundwater Pumping The state of Florida is very dependent on groundwater, primarily for public and agricultural supply. Indeed, the largest source of drinking water in Florida is groundwater from the state s massive aquifer system; approximately ninety percent of the state s drinking water is extracted from groundwater sources (Marella, 2004). According to Marella (2004), Between 1970 and 2000, total freshwater withdrawals increased for public supply by 176 percent and for agricultural self supplied by 87 percent (p. 1). As discussed previously, a growing population correlates with an increase in the demand for groundwater resources. Groundwater is currently being pumped out of Florida s aquifers faster than the state s abundant rainfall can refill them (Barnett, 2007, p.2). The excessive pumping of groundwater can create subsurface voids because of the lowering of the water table, which can lead to the development of sinkholes due to gravity and a loss of fluid pressure support (Tihansky, 1999, p. 132). The story is set up in the 17th century in Puritan Boston Massachusets and it mainly focuses on the life of a woman, Hester Prynne and how she struggles to gain respect from the community after having committed adultery. Throughout the book, themes such as sin, isolation, and judgment are explored. Hawthorne uses the theme of judgment to convey ideas about the strictness of the puritan society. This theme is explored from the beginning of the book up until the end. • 38. Where Worlds Collide By Pico Iyer Where Worlds Collide is an essay by Pico Iyer who talks about the expectations and reality of Los Angeles through the perspectives of travelers from different backgrounds. In Where Worlds Collide, Pico Iyer argues that even though Los Angeles is depicted as a vicinity to receive wealth, happiness, and many opportunities it is actually the antithesis, and instead, many harsh prejudice and unending craziness will occur instead; Iyer argues this by using allusions, anaphoras, and juxtapositions to help convey what he is saying. In the beginning of this passage, Iyer starts off with a lively and narrative tone to introduce a biblical allusion in the first paragraph; Iyer explains how many travelers come out from the airplane to reach their final destination, the Promised Land. This allusion sparks an interest to the readers because Iyer is referring to the Los Angeles International Airportas the Promised Land. Throughout the essay, Iyer refers to the LAX as the Land of Opportunity Iyer is using these two allusions to help paint a picture of what the LAX means to these naive travelers, a place filled with hopes and dreams. These allusions help correspond to the jubilance of the author s tone and helps keep the writing capture the author s passion about his story. Later in Iyer s passage, he uses anaphoras to help solidify the hectic attributes of the LAX, which contradicts the supposed Promised Land. Iyer describes how the second thing that the travelers see is that [i]n front of them is a Van Stop, a Bus Stop, a Courtesy Tram Stop, and a Shuttle Bus Stop... (101). The repetition of stop is utilized to show that all of these stops are bombarding their way through towards the travelers just as if everything is going out of control. The scenery that Iyer is depicting is about a hectic airport, not about a Promised Land. Iyer includes more anaphoras as he talks about how [t]hey have already braved the ranks of Asian officials, the criminal looking security men in jackets... For this project delivery organization to succeed, members of the team must commit to a true partnership. But in the end, the question of defining quality of life seems to be, unavoidably, self determined. In addition the quality of nursing homes and long term care is determined by privatized companies who end goal is to make profits. In LTC and nursing homes it is advertised that, every department is involved in implementing quality management to offer the best quality of service;... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 42. Theme Of Tikki Maurii The theme of Rikki Tikki Tavi is putting others in front of yourself, meaning that you care about them more than you care about yourself. It is almost like the golden rule, do unto others as you would have them done onto you. This is recurring theme from Rikki Tikki Tavi, the mongoose constantly puts himself in harms way to save the familythat had nursed him back to health. Rikki Tikki has gone out of his way to help others despite them not doing anything in return. From saving the life of Teddy, to saving everyone living in the bungalow. The brave mongoose even saved the lives of the family as a whole. He saved them when Nagaina was threatening to kill the whole family if they did not move or if they did she would also kill them. • 43. Gambling and Sports Should Sports Gambling Be Legalized? Gambling is a common practice throughout human history, one that appeals to the individual s desire for gain and offers the thrill of risk or uncertainty. Sports gambling is the wagering of money or other items of value on the outcome of a sporting event, dependent either wholly or in part on chance (Thompson, 2008, p. 1). Sports gambling generates billions of dollars annually, with large events like the Super Bowl or World Series alone able to generate wagers in the billions of dollars. This research will explore the arguments of those who oppose sports gambling and those who support it in order to answer the question: Should sports gambling be legalized? There are many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to Thompson (2008), as of 2008 there were over 150 racetracks operating in the U.S., with annual wagers on horse racing totaling more than $16 billion. Dog racing is also legal in a number of states, but it is not as popular or widespread as horse racing. Proponents of sports gambling maintain betting on such events generates lucrative revenues, provides thousands of jobs, and offers sports bettors a means of entertainment and a chance for gain. Despite these arguments, there are a number of sound arguments put forth by those who remain staunchly opposed to legalizing sports gambling in the U.S. One of the biggest reasons opponents of sports gambling are opposed to wagering on sporting events is because of the potential for sports gambling to result in fixed sporting events and ultimately undermining the integrity of professional and amateur sports in the U.S. As Thompson (2008) explains, sports gambling remains illegal and heavily regulated by the government because of the potential for events to be fixed, or illegally influenced (using bribes or other forms of compensation) (p. 2). It is not that difficult to see how this might happen, since numerous sports gambling scandals have occurred in the past. The 1919 World Series was fixed by Chicago White Sox players. Pete Rose was banned from baseball and denied admittance to the Baseball Hall of Fame because of his admission to gambling on sporting events while he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 46. A Interview At An Interview Shortly after the submission of my application, I received an email inviting me to the interview that would be conducted in company s office in London. Overall, in my opinion, I did my best in terms of the preparation. I researched the company s history, read about its most popular products and familiarized myself with the recent industry and company s news (Burke and Thurgood 2007). A week prior to the interviewdate I attended an interview preparation session organized by the Careers Office which, as noted by Spears (1979), was supposed to help me feel more comfortable during the actual interview. As a result, I had, what Bandura (1982) would call a high level of self efficacy, meaning that I hold an opinion that I would succeed in an interview. Turning attention to the actual interview, it was conducted face to face on company s premises and my interviewer was a middle aged white woman. From the first seconds of the interview she had an open body language and she maintained a good eye contact. Armstrong (2012) indicates that such behaviour helps to establish the good rapport with the applicant and it was certainly true in my case. It was a structured employment interview as I was asked a set of prepared questions (Levashina et al. 2014) that explored if I possessed skills and competencies required for the job position. As the interviewer followed the script, it led to the consistency in information received, implying more accurate selection decision (Garcia et al. 2008). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
