Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

2. This template PowerPoint presentation includes all the relevant
elements you need to cover your film production.
It is suggested you save this PP in a different name so you
always have a copy – some sections require you to delete the
information on the slide and replace with your own work
Add more pages to each section where necessary [you should be
doing this!]
Add visuals as you see necessary
This document will be added to as you progress through the pre-
production phase.
Remember, you need to give as much attention to your
sound planning as you do to your visual planning
3.
4. Use the story development resource to help structure your short
film with more detail
Not all the aspects have to be followed verbatim, use the
resource the plan out character, motivation, stakes and the arc of
your film, this will help to ensure that it works structurally
Proforma is on bb
Add a structural breakdown of each scene once you have done
this
5.
6. Breakdown your film into it’s basic sections [e.g. via scene
breakdown or similar] and apply broad visual ideas to each
section. You should list the shots required
You can use this as the master template for your production, then
add more shots to each section when you develop your full visual
plan
From this you could work on a conventional script if you want, but
using the scene breakdowns should be enough
7. Scene No. or section
(e.g. beginning,
middle, end, etc)
Approx. timing What happens Visual notes Audio notes
Beginning 20 sec. Main character going
on daily business.
Based in
kitchen/lounge(daily
business look)
Kind of noises you
would expect from
inside a house.
Middle 40 sec. Goes into hall way,
when switching light
off, he notices the
looming
object/character.
Continues with the
lights on/off situation.
Base it around being
set in the hallway, as it
is a long space and
will be easier for the
looming
object/character to
appear in the dark.
Maybe have the sound
off a door closing.
Light switch (on/off).
Creaking sounds,
coming from the floor.
End 30 sec. When the lights are
switched on/off for the
last time the looming
object/character
comes right up in face
of main character.
Still be set in same
place as the middle
part, but towards the
end show (slight clip)
of main character

looming
object/character
appears in their face.
Light switch sound

Towards end have
some dramatic sound
effects// back track.
9. This section is concerned with the visual planning of your film
You should use this section to develop the sequencing or your
video, establish the visuals look and sequencing of your film and
create a structure for you to follow when filming
It is important that you ‘pre-visualise’ the film before you make it; it
will make filming and production a more streamlined process
The following tasks are part of your visual planning
Pre-visualisation and concept boards
Storyboarding
Shot list
10. Your storyboard should bring your idea to life
Provide an idea of the sequencing of you film
Provides a basis for production
Suggested online storyboard creators are:
https://www.storyboardthat.com
http://www.pixton.com [very complicated]
http://www.storyjumper.com [allows you to insert your own images]
Alternatively, hand draw or photograph your storyboard and scan or
copy to insert it onto your slides
There are lots of tips collected together on Blackboard!
13. Your shot list should contain the sequential breakdown of what
you need to shoot for your film
It should work in partnership with your storyboard
It will be your working document when you film
It should contain the shot number, scene number, shot
description, framing, cast/location info and action you will see
It should also have information on performers in the scene and
other props, etc
Shot list template is on Blackboard in the pre-production folder.
17. Include names, contact info, and defined roles at difference
stages of production, using a table is suggested
Dale- will play the main character and whom is the
one that goes about there daily business and is the
one whom is spooked/scared by the looming object in
the distance.
Munene- Will be representing the idea of the looming
character is the distance that is going to appear/jump
up up into the main characters face.
Milo- Be in charge of collecting sound effects to put
into my video short film, but not only that he is also a
back-up incase someone cant make it on the day for
filming, he can fill in and take any role.
Myself- I will be in charge of the whole filming and
also adding in the sound effects and finally I will also
be in charge of the editing and making sure it will all
flow together, but I will also be able to take upon any
of the roles, if necessary.
18. Who is going to be in your film, how and why have they been
deemed your best choice? Do you have any backup options?
I chose these people to be in my production work as I
feel that they would be a suitable role for them to
play/do the tasks of which I have assigned them to
do. As an example I believe that munene should play
the looming character as he is above the average
height/quite tall and due to this he will obviously be
more scary to see coming from a distance down a dark
hall way/ally. If some of these characters will be un-
able to attend/do that role then I will be able to work
around that and maybe make it so one person can play
more than 1 role If they are suitable to do so.
However despite this I do have a back up
actor/person (milo) who would be able to fill in for
someone if necessary, or I can take the place and get
a back up to film.
19. Information and images of your location[s] for filming
You should have address details, clearance/premissions for filming, recce
photos and floorplans [including camera, equipment and cast/crew
layouts]
Where possible, have a plan B fallback location option
Assess each location for any issues and suggest solutions
My main chosen location for my filming is going to be the location of ‘36 Southfield
Road’ I feel this is the most suitable location for me to film, as it has that open
indoor space of which I will require to film/record, especially the idea of the long
hall way scene to be able to include the idea of the looming character/object.
Throughout my filming at this location there will be one camera of which will film
from several different angles, one of being in the hall way.
In case my decided location for the filming of my short film doesn't’t work out I
have a back up location of which I could use if necessary. The back up location is
located ‘77 Denison Road’, this is a good back up location that I could use because
it again includes the idea of a long hall way which will make it easy to film, not only
that but it is a 100% certainty that it will be an empty location, so I wouldn’t get
any background noises.
20.
21.
22. Provide an outline of what you will do on which days during
production Day 1 Use the first day to work on recording
for my sound effects and try to get the
majority of them done so there out the
way.
Day 2 Start my recording production, try at
least to get the first few scenes
recorded. Do more then one take of the
scenes ( incase of mistakes).
Day 3 Record/film the next few sections of
your film production, make multiple
recordings of the scenes again incase
of mistakes.
Day 4 Take a small amount of time to go back
and again look back on the scenes of
which you have already filmed.
Day 5 Be working on filming the last few of
your scenes for your production, try to
get it completed.
Day 6 Go over and check all of the audio I
have created and make sure I am
happy with it, start editing.
Day 7 Finish off editing my film i.e. adding In
my sound effects, make sure I am
happy with my production, if I am,
complete evaluation.
23.
24.
25.
26. List, explain how you’ll acquire and provide an overview of
anything else you’ll need for your production – this is about
anything that isn’t cast, crew, technical equipment and
locations, but could be how those things will be moved to a
location, for example.
There isn't much other equipment/items that I will be needing apart from
the camera, there is however one item of which I will require for my
production and that is the idea of a mask/balla clava of which I can use
for the looming character in the dark, as they will look more scary for the
close up shot. The camera equipment I will be able to provide from my
house as I already have a camera and stand. If it comes to moving
locations I have a bag for the camera and stand, for the mask/ balla
clava I will simply carry them in a plastic bag, but this wont really be
necessary as I will only be moving location if some of the scenes aren't
going to fit with the location set.
28. These are sounds in the environment, part of the ‘world’ your
character experiences – these can be recorded on location,
produced afterwards using foley techniques, etc. Some use of
royalty free sounds is permitted, but you must list their sources
and information
Consider what you might need, how you are going to get it, etc
You could reference similar productions and the effect of their
sound mix and choices
Some of the effects of which I might want to include into my film
production that are diegetic sound effects will include the idea of
footsteps/running soundeffects, but these sound effects need to be made
by acting as if they are walking across a wooden/hard surface floor, but
more of a worn one so that it would emphasise the creaking foot steps.
To create the walking sound effects I will use a audio recorder to record
someone walking on a wooden floor.
I will need to make some sort of sound effect which makes it sound like
heavy breathing, I need this sound effect to emphasise how the main
character is scared/afraid of the looming character.
Make some general other sound effects that the main character would
make on a normal day and I will make them via how If I was going about
a normal day.
29. These are the sounds/audio that the audience experiences, but are not
part of the ‘world’ of the character[s], this could be music, sound cues,
etc
Consider where you are going to get these, only royalty free sources and
original content is permitted – please track your sources
You could also produce your own soundtrack using garageband.
Use the idea of some form of general background music that can be
playing in the background as I am creating my short film, this would be
the only audio that I would be able to include into my production. If this
doesn’t work I could include the idea of a quiet music sound track of
which I would add into my production while editing, but keep to the idea
of keeping it low key/quiet so that you can only just hear it in the
background. Although you wont be able to hear it much it is still a good
feature to be including and I will still be able to hear the other sound
effects i.e. walking over it.
Depending on the areas of which you film around the location, I will
obviously need to add in the idea of some sound effects that you would
expect to hear from inside a house i.e. a humming sound from the fridge,
very slight background chatter (coming from the T.V). I need to be
careful upon how I included these sound effects, as they will have to be
at just the right time and not be so loud that it is over powering the
background music soundtrack.
