9. CONVENTIONS YOU PLAN TO
USE
I actually want to subvert the pop genre conventions in my
music video by having a more meaningful video. The
conventions of pop often include long shots of
partying/dancing. They also include high-key lighting, bright
colours (makeup, clothes etc.).
I think my video will be set at night, with the main person being
alone. This completely juxtaposes the partying conventions in
pop music.
Despite opposing the genre, the style of music video fits in with
her image and I think it’ll work well.
11. SUMMARY
The cost of travel to my chosen location is quite high and
therefor it may come as a restriction for my project.
As well as this, I want to film my project at night which
creates a time restriction.

ARTIST/TITLE/INFO
I’m going to do the song Liability by Lorde.
Born on November 7, 1996, Lorde (Ella Marija Lani Yelich-
O'Connor) is a singer/songwriter born in the Auckland
suburb of Takapuna and raised in neighboring Devonport,
New Zealand. She is of Irish and Croatian descent. She
became an international crossover hit in 2013 with her
debut studio album, Pure Heroine.
This song was written after an ex-lover told her that she
was too much for anyone, the lyrics are about realising she
is good enough for herself.
13. FINAL IDEA – TRACK
SUMMARY
Summary/analysis of track [consider meaning, content,
duration, pace and style of the song]
Lordes liability song is about loving yourself even when think
no one else loves you. One of the first lyrics is ‘said he made
the big mistake of dancing in my storm’. Which is a powerful
metaphor for anyone that is involved in her life, a storm creates
destruction. But there is always a storm eye- with in herself.
The next line is ‘so I go home, into the arms of the girl that I
love’. Which at first makes the audience think she’s talking
about a loved one. But the next line is ‘but all that a stranger
would see, is one girl, swaying alone, stroking her cheek’ which
reveals that she was talking about herself.
The chorus then goes to talk about the things the her exes
would say to her ‘you’re a little much for me’, ‘you’re a liability’
but Lorde also confirmed that she believed it was true, saying
that 'I'm never too much for myself and sometimes self love is

18. LOCATIONS
What are the limitations and risks, eg distance, access,
cost, weather? How will you manage this?
Most of the settings will be in Harrogate near Bettys Tea
Rooms on the streets. We will be filming at around ten in
order to get a darker low-key setting but still need to be
weary of cars and vehicles on the road.
The other setting is going to be at my house which is
probably not as important in terms of risk assessment but
I still need to make myself aware of possible risks.
19. EQUIPMENT
We need to talk too the staff 2 college days in advance.
I’m going to borrow a tripod from my sister to save time,
I’m also going to use her fisheye lens. For some of the
shots, I’m going to use my phone as there are automatic
slow-motion settings on it. This will save time when I’m
editing. As well as this, I am thinking of purchasing a

20. FACILITIES
Where will you edit your video? Do you need any other specialist
facilities…?
Most of my editing will be done in college but it is important that
I download some software to my computer at home to ensure
that I’m not always relying on it. A few examples of editing

21. PERSONNEL
CREW: the crew members will just be me and my sister.
She will be acting as my assistant whilst I film and direct.
She is only available on the weekends so I will need to
work my schedule around her and the actor. I will have to
cover food costs for my sister.
CAST: My friend will be acting in this film, she is
available on Wednesdays and the weekends. It’s going to
filmed in both my house and Harrogate so when she
travels to mine, I will have to cover the costs of travel. As
well as this, I will have to cover lunch costs.
22. PROPS/COSTUME/ETC
My actor will be dressed in a dress at the start and then
dark casual baggy clothes for the rest of the music video.
My mum owns a dress company and has agreed to give
us a black dress for filming.
She will be wearing her own clothes for the other part.
Other than a bottle of water when my model is sitting in
the car, there aren’t any props in my music video.

28. STRUCTURAL BREAKDOWN
Breakdown your track into it basic sections [e.g. intro,
verse, chorus, verse, etc] and apply broad visual ideas to
each section

you develop your full visual plan

33. LOCATION INFORMATION
The first place I will be filming is Harrogate town centre.
This place is practical as it’s often quiet at night which
fits perfectly with the atmosphere I want to create. I will
be using the lighting at night in Harrogate to my
advantage. I don’t need permission for filming here as it
is public access. An issue that I might come upon is
being unable to pay travel expenses. If I can’t, I will film
in my backup location.
34. Backup Location
My backup location will be Leeds City Centre. It’s less
practical as it tends to be busier at night in compared to
Harrogate. Despite this, the atmosphere I want to create
in my video is the same.
35. RISK ASSESSMENT
Risk Assess each separate filming location using the
table in the camera H&S PP on Bb as a staring point
Completing a generic filming assessment would be a
start, then you can add specialist/site specific risks as
you progress your production
Remember, a Risk Assessment is an ongoing document,
you should evaluate if anything changes in production
and when you put control measures in place

Things go wrong
Your contingency plan is there to give you a backup or to
minimize the effect on production

Bad weather during filming Reschedule filming to a date that will be better, try
move filming indoors.

Actors become ill or unavailable Look at the possibilities of an understudy, if filming
has started be prepared to re-film
Props become unavailable Look at using back props. This can include
substituting the prop gun for example using a prop
knife instead.

- 1 week filming [plan for up to 2 days]
- 2 weeks editing [essentially 2 days for every day you
filmed]
