2. This template PowerPoint presentation includes all the relevant
elements you need to cover your film production.
It is suggested you save this PP in a different name so you
always have a copy – some sections require you to delete the
information on the slide and replace with your own work
Add more pages to each section where necessary [you should be
doing this!]
Add visuals as you see necessary
This document will be added to as you progress through the pre-
production phase.
Remember, you need to give as much attention to your
sound planning as you do to your visual planning
4. Use the story development resource to help structure your short
film with more detail
Not all the aspects have to be followed verbatim, use the
resource the plan out character, motivation, stakes and the arc of
your film, this will help to ensure that it works structurally
Proforma is on bb
Add a structural breakdown of each scene once you have done
this
6. Breakdown your film into it’s basic sections [e.g. via scene
breakdown or similar] and apply broad visual ideas to each
section. You should list the shots required
You can use this as the master template for your production, then
add more shots to each section when you develop your full visual
plan
From this you could work on a conventional script if you want, but
using the scene breakdowns should be enough

10. This section is concerned with the visual planning of your film
You should use this section to develop the sequencing or your
video, establish the visuals look and sequencing of your film and
create a structure for you to follow when filming
It is important that you ‘pre-visualise’ the film before you make it; it
will make filming and production a more streamlined process
The following tasks are part of your visual planning
Pre-visualisation and concept boards
Storyboarding
Shot list
11. Tool for exploring the direction and visuals
Provides inspiration and information for the “look & feel”
Presents key moments in your video
A means to sketch/plan ideas
Information on colour/lighting
Defining the “mise-en-scene”
Include as much here as you like, but keep it relevant to the
production, the following slides have been left blank for you to
approach in your own way, add more as you need to
Suggestion: include your edited short sequence of clips that have
inspired or influenced your video [similar to this:

13. The teleporting transition is based on both family
guy (Stewie’s time machine) and Back to the
future (delorian). I notice that they both have
electric bolts popping out of the time machines
when it disappears. This is something i planned for
my teleporting device to do, as it shows its power,
and a smooth transition for the character to
disappear. The sound of the teleportation is based
on BTTF too. This is because, the power gain
noise matches with the idea of taking control, as
the watch powers up, then it controls the
teleporting. The reason for the watch being the
main object was inspiration from the old tv show
Bernard's watch. That show included an iconic
stopwatch, in which can control time. I find a watch
to be an iconic object, and interesting, as it may
tell, but does it control? The teleporting can
happen of your choice. You have to think of where
you want to go. For example, if you think of los
Angeles, you will end up in Los Angeles. The
watch doesn’t look iconic, to have the tease and
surprise at the beginning that it’s a teleportation
device in private. Then that way, the audience feel
like they are being brought into this “secret” fact,
that the watch is magic.
14. The tint, that will be added on the effects will have a
slight green/blue effect, as it represents surprise and
excitement. The surprise being the magic watch,
and the excitement being the idea of the magic
watch; what will he do next with it. There wont be
much direction of red/ blue black/white, as there Is
no good or evil in the film, as its all to do with the
power of the character. The slow motion scene will
tint with a bit more green, as the happy mood has
gone, and turned into this tense mood, as the watch
has broken.
The character will be in casual clothing. It will be modern ware. He will be dressed like
this, to show how he seems to be like everyone else, he’s not evil, he’s not a hero, he’s
not a role model etc. This builds up to the surprise that he is actually different.
The movie will have no vocal in it (until the very end). By this, I need to communicate the
situation of my film. To show when an important, and key scene comes up, I will put in a
medium to close up shot of that part, in order for the audience to have more focus on
that item, without looking at the back ground. So when it goes back to the long shot, the
audience will still focus on the item on the last shot. One example is the watch. I Will
have a close up of me pressing the button. The long shot will show me disappearing.
The close up directs that pressing the watch, indicates that it triggers the teleportation. It
also shows the watch itself, and its works, so you see a button on it, which you now
know that causes the impact.
15. This has the colour scheme I
intend to have, as it represents
amazements and terror.
This has the green colour scheme in it.
This is a scene which represents terror,
and a bit of amazement with the fight cut
away.
16. Your storyboard should bring your idea to life
Provide an idea of the sequencing of you film
Provides a basis for production
Suggested online storyboard creators are:
https://www.storyboardthat.com
http://www.pixton.com [very complicated]
http://www.storyjumper.com [allows you to insert your own images]
Alternatively, hand draw or photograph your storyboard and scan
or copy to insert it onto your slides
There are lots of tips collected together on Blackboard!
17.
18.
19. Your shot list should contain the sequential breakdown of what
you need to shoot for your film
It should work in partnership with your storyboard
It will be your working document when you film
It should contain the shot number, scene number, shot
description, framing, cast/location info and action you will see
It should also have information on performers in the scene and
other props, etc
Shot list template is on Blackboard in the pre-production folder.
23. Include names, contact info, and defined roles at difference
stages of production, using a table is suggested
Name Phone Role(s)
Andreas Mina 07443049671 The producer of the short
film (the one who came up
with the film). The actor of
the film. The organizer.
Organizing what to get and
where to go. The editor of
the film at the end.
Clara Johnson 01904 770399 The filmer of the film. She
will be the camera woman.
Joshua Eastham
07572404111
The back-up filmer if Clara
is unavailable,
24. Who is going to be in your film, how and why have they been deemed your best choice? Do
you have any backup options?
The film only needs one performer, as it only involves around the one character. I have
chosen myself to be the main character of the film. The reason for this is because I had
done GCSE drama in the past (And came out with a B), so I know how to get into
character, and im confident enough to act in my own film. Also, I have chosen me to Act
in my Film, as I know what I ant to do. I t saves me lacking time, explaining to someone
how I would like them to characterize my character in my film. For filming, I have chosen
Clara. The reason for this is because she is filming at home, so she may have the time
to help me whilst on college premises. I have also gotten a backup option (if necessary. I
have chosen Josh to be my back up filmier. The reason for this is because we had an
agreement that I would be his backup if necessary, but also, he helped film the Irn Bru
advert. So I know he has experience with filming.
25. Information and images of your location[s] for filming
You should have address details, clearance/premissions for filming,
recce photos and floorplans [including camera, equipment and
cast/crew layouts]
Where possible, have a plan B fallback location option
Assess each location for any issues and suggest solutions

The second floor canteen. Will be one scene. There is a space with no tables and chairs, in
which I can use as performance space. The camera will be placed, facing the vending
machines, to have a clear shot of food. The character will face diagonal to the camera, so he
can look at the food, without having his back to the screen. The Plan B for the canteen is the
one on the third floor, as there is a vending machine there. The location is a very public area,
but close to the other scenes. If it gets too busy, or if someone wants to use that area, we
may have to relocate to the third floor, which isn’t as busy.
This will be the set for the beginning scene. This area has a large space for filming. The
camera will be in diagonally right towards the lift for the long shot, and where the line is
for the close up. The plan be for this area would be to use the other lift in the food
technology department, as that’s slightly an isolated area too. The lift may be in use
sometimes, so we need to do this scene quickly, to stop interference with those who
need to use it. Also, it is a corridor space, so if it gets to busy, then I may need to
relocate.
This is the classroom used for the classroom scene. This space is handy, as there is a table
already ready in the middle for me, and open space, for cameras. The camera will face directly
behind where the chair is on the first scene, then over the table for the water scene, and facing the
left of the room on the last time. If I need a plan B (Which i highly likely wont), I can just ask any
media lecturer to use theirs, or just find a table space in the college and use that. There may be
students on the computer whilst the scene is filming, which may cause problems, as they may be
in the way.
The Chroma key studio. This is a long and narrow space for filming. Luckily, the character
wont walk in the scenes in the studio, so I don’t have a big problem with space. The
camera will face front on to the green screen, and the character will be in the middle of the
green screen. Luckily, I've successfully booked my time in this room, so I don’t need a plan
b. the issue with filming here is getting a full body shot. The green screen doesn’t fully go
on the floor, so it would be hard to film a full shot, without getting a real shot in it.
31. Risk Assess each separate filming location using the provided
form in the pre-production folder on Blackboard and insert into
your powerpoint
Completing a generic filming assessment would be a start, then
you can add specialist/site specific risks as you progress your
production
Remember, a Risk Assessment is an ongoing document, you
should evaluate if anything changes in production and when you
put control measures in place

35. Things go wrong
Your contingency plan is there to give you a backup or to
minimise the effect on production
You should consider the following areas: Technical, Location,
Personnel and Organisational areas [about 5 potential issues for
each]
Use the form in pre-production folder on Blackboard

37. Provide an outline of what you will do on which days during production
Tuesday I will be filming the first and second acts of the film. I will be filming the lift scene in the
hallway in the beginning of the morning, then i will be the first classroom scene, for the
second half of the first session. After break, i will do the canteen scene for the first half, and
the second classroom scene in the second half of the session. On the last two sessions, the
videos will be uploaded to my computer, and i will be editing the first two acts on premier
pro.
Wednesday Green screen day. I wasn’t able to get the studio on Friday, so I postponed it for
Wednesday. On this day, I will be doing the last scenes, which involve the Chroma key
studio. I will be using the studio, to do the last scenes. This is so I can get the most
complicated work out the way, to focus on the other stuff that I need to do. After I've done it,
I will upload it to the computer, and add and edit the effects on Premier pro.
Thursday On Thursday, all my footage will be on premier pro. I will be adding the sound effects and
the audio to the video, and add the finishing touches to the video on premier pro.

42. List, explain how you’ll acquire and provide an overview of anything else you’ll need for your production – this is about anything that isn’t
cast, crew, technical equipment and locations, but could be how those things will be moved to a location, for example.
Props: In my production, i will require a watch, and possibly a notebook as props. I will use props
which i already own, for example, using a watch which I've had for a while, and a notebook which i
use for notes. This saves me having to spree from shop to shop finding a cheap watch, which I'm
going to use for one day. Plus, my current watch will be presented as mystical, as its magic, but
looks regular. This is for a surprise at the beginning, as the audience wasn’t expecting it. The
watch will always be on the characters whist until when it breaks, as it shows its a part of the
characters life, till it breaks, and he is doomed without it.
Background: In the classroom scene, there will be a PowerPoint slide in the background. It will
show some maths. This is used to show that I'm in a classroom, showing that I'm a student “late”
for class. It will be home made, and just show a simple image of angles, so i don’t have to waste
time actually making a professional slide.
Costume: The character will be dressed casually. Nothing that will stand out to anyone else. The
reason is because i don't want to show the character as being good or bad, as he is just a regular
bloke with a secret (which I want to leave as a surprise for the audience at the begging). When i
mean casual, i mean normal Demin jeans, and a normal looking shirt/t shirt. He will be dressed the
same in every scene.
Special Effects: i will be getting special effects from YouTube. It saves time with me making them,
as i am doing this in a short time period. I will provide an electric ball for the time travel transition,
so that the teleport transition has an effect behind it, rather than a cut.
44. These are sounds in the environment, part of the ‘world’ your character experiences – these can be recorded on location, produced afterwards using foley techniques, etc. Some use of royalty free sounds is permitted, but
you must list their sources and information
Consider what you might need, how you are going to get it, etc
Recording
I will use the recorder to make the lift button press noise. It will be recorded by me
pressing the button repetitively. I will try to remove any background noise from the audio.
This will be added to premier pro in the first scene. I may consider recording rustling
noises for the canteen scene. This is for when the character grabs the food item. I will
be recording the noise on set (in the location which the scene takes place).

lightning sound effect, which will also be from YouTube. This will pop up in the footage of
the electric ball.

Garage band
The film will feature some background music, which the character can’t her. One thing
that will be for definite would be some tense heartbeat music for the slow motion scene,
to give suspense and tension. This is something which i can make on Garage band by
my self. Also, for the dolly zoom scene, I would like to make a sour, doom like noise,
when zooming into the characters face. This is something else which I can make on
Garage band. There is a chance in which I may put silence beat, tension music in the
background of the last scenes, to make the scene more tense and unpredictable.

I don’t want to use a lot of royalty free music, as I would like to stay original. I would like
to find and use comical/awqard music in the background for the title, then fades away for
the beginning of the film. This gives a standard intro, of not knowing what is going to
happen at the end of the film.
