3.  I completed my primary research (a survey on SurveyMonkey) and my secondary research
(statistics from various websites) to identify my target audience.
 My research changed my decision of the type of genre my short film was going to be slightly
because at first it was meant to be a horror, however research showed me that both male and
female of all ages enjoy the thriller genre so I decided to make my film a horror/thriller to
increase the size of my target audience to make it enjoyable to as many people as possible.
 I used the BBFC Guidelines to choose the rating of my film and talk about the audience
appropriate content.
 I then chose three professional productions and analysed them and how they used music,
lighting and camera shots/angles in their productions and what I will take into consideration
after researching these productions.
 Next I discussed my practice filming process, however I was absent when I was supposed to
complete my practice filming so I talked about how I filmed my Irn-Bru advert. I also discussed
the process of my editing for this advert and the process of my audio practice, which is when I
added audio and sound effects onto a silent video clip scene from Shaun Of The Dead. I
discussed these processes and reflected on them all, showing what I can use in my film that I
learnt or used in these processes.
 Finally I talked about the constraints on production and what was stopping me or limiting me
from doing certain things whilst filming and editing.

4.  I think that the strengths of my planning was my shot list and
structural breakdowns, as they helped me very much during
filming to know what I need to film and where, and they also
included certain sound effects I needed to film as well. I didn’t
follow the timings of my shots very well, therefore my film was
longer than the given time limit, however I still finished my film.
 My storyboard I made was also successful and useful in showing
a visual representation of my film before shooting.
 However my concept board and other visual planning weren’t
very detailed and they weren’t helpful when filming, as I already
showed what was going to feature in my film on a different slide.

5.  I believe I managed my time well enough t complete my film,
however there are many improvements I could have made if I had
more time to work on my product.
 For example my short film was over the given time limit, so I
exported it after I finished and I was going to attempt to shorten
my film to the given time limit, which was 1 minute to 1 minute
and 30 seconds, although my film was just below 2 minutes,
therefore it wasn’t too long.
 Other than the length of my film I belive I managed everything
else well, for example I filmed all of my shots in one day (which
was scheduled) and I managed to edit all the sound effects and
music into my film in time.

bright so it takes
the focus off the

made the characters the
focus of the shot and they
are the brigtest and most
stand out features.
In this shot the camera is
level with all of the actors
and they almost blend in
with the background,
meaning they don’t stand
out.
In this shot the
actors look a lot
more in focus and
in high definition,
making the scene
look more
professional
This shot is slightly out of
focus compared to the shot
on the righ, however this
culd be due to the camera
quality or if it was put into
focus on the camera
properly.

7. In this scene in particular in
my film there was a good
ambience sound in the
background with the sound of
cars driving past as well,
which is what I wanted.
Unfortunately there is
a high pitch sound
throughout the scene
which may be
because I left the
microphone on the
camera when I
shouldn’t have.
I also recorded the
sound of footsteps
on an audio recorder
seperatley and
added them into the
scene afterwards,
which worked and
sounded well.
Without watching this
scene, you can see
from the picture that
there is an explosion
and this explosion is
recorded afterwards
and edited in, however
still sounds very real.
The audio in this
scene is very
clear and there is
no high pitch
screeching noise
as there is in my
film scene, which
make sit better.
I don’t think any of
the audio in this
scene was filmed
on the same device
as the video was
flmed at the same
time and all of it
was edited in
afterwards, yet it
still sounds very
real.

8. The colour
curves I edited
here allowed the
scene to have a
more negative
and intense feel
to it.
It also has a good
appearance to it,
with the shot
being mostly grey
with a red strip on
the tree.
This scene looks very
heavily edited and
although it looks good it
no longer has a real life
feel to it, as you wouldn’t
see colour like this is you
were watching it in real
life.
This shot is edited to
give the scene a
scary/eery feel, with
the dark colours in
the background, just
like my scene on the
left.
The clown in this
shot is the main
focus and evem
though it it behind
the grass the
character is still
shown with a lot of
detail, unlike mine
where the focus is
on the whole
scene, rather than
just one thing.
Unlike my shot, this shot
doesn’t look heavily edited,
however it is yet it still has a
strong real life look to it, making
it seem very realistic, making it
more scry for the viewer (which
is what a horror fan would like).

9. • I believe that my work does look good, however it does not look very professional, as I had not
used Premiere Pro before this project.
• I think I made the short film look good as I edited the colour correction and colour curves etc, which
gave each scene and shot a different mood and setting, for example in my film when one of the
characters is killed, the colour changes to a grey and dull colour, as these colours are associared
with a negative mood and image which is what I was trying to show in the murder.
• I also think that the video transitions work well and fit well in time with the music.
• If I had time to improve my product, I would add in more self-made sound effects in all the scenes
and change the audio at the start, as the audio at the start is edited and contains dialogue that
doesn’t fit with the actor’s mouth movement and timings, making it look more unprofessional.

10. • Both my primary and secondary research shows that the horror and thriller genre were quite popular,
therefore I added a jump scare and tense scenes in my film, for example an intense chase, a murder
and an unknown situation, where the viewer didn’t know what to expect.
• In addition to this I searched horror/thriller music for the intense chase, on YouTube, and used
‘KeepVid’ to downloaded the music to add into my film.
• I didn’t appeal to some of my viewers as some of my viewers said they would prefer ghosts or
supernatural, however I did not include these in my short film, as it wasn’t in my initial ideas for my
film and I wasn’t experienced enough and didn’t have the right equipment to film with to add these
special effects in.

12.  What did you like about the product?
 I liked the use of tense music and the elements of horror. The
colour correction is very effective at the end as well.
 What improvements could have been made to the product?
 Make the film shorter as it is over 1 minute.

13.  What did you like about the product?
I liked the way the film was shot, the music is well intercut with the
shots. The shots also managed to feel fast and the pace picked up
during the chase scene. Overall the short is entertaining and is
interesting throughout.
 What improvements could have been made to the product?
At first it was a bit confusing with the wallet, perhaps make it a bit
more clear that his friend stole his money. Also probably should
have been shorter.

 I liked the editing between each scene and the story of the short film is
interesting and unique
 What improvements could have been made to the product?
 The improvements would be shorting the length of the short film and
add in more sound effects

15.  What do you agree with from your peer feedback?
 I agree that the length of the film should be shorter and I could make
the stroryline a bit more clear, because if it is not explained most
people don’t understand it.
 What do you disagree with from your peer feedback?
 I disagree with the feedback that I should add more sound effects and
visual effects, because I want it to look more real without special
effects, and I have already used some effects and edited the colour a
lot.
