Trip To Haiti
In the fall of 2014 I was presented with the opportunity to go on a missions trip to Zambia. We
had a few meetings about this trip and interest grew. Next thing I knew it was March of 2015
and I was headed off to Haiti. Plans had changed but I could never have imagined what great
impact this would have on my life. Haiti is not know for much but it is known for being poor.
This might dissuade people from visiting, but for me it was exactly what I needed. We got to
Haiti and even in the airport saw the people desperate for money to feed themselves and their
families. We took a ten passenger plane up the mountain and as we flew we were able to see the
poverty in the towns below. There were houses made up of four corner poles with a tin roofs.

yet cannot leave. These statutes serve as a motif signifying Kane s loneliness and how he
attempted to use his money to get people to stay in his life. In the closing moments of the film,
vast rooms brimming with boxes full of junk, many of which remain unopened, intermingle with
statues and help convey just how far Kane s obsession went, and how unfulfilled his life was. A
