Ronald Reagan on the 40th Anniversary of D-Day Pointe Du...
Before I get to the analysis portion of this assignment, the speech I have decided to go with is former
President Ronald Reagan s speech on the 40th Anniversary of D Day that was delivered at Pointe du
Hoc, Normandy, France, on June 6, 1984. This is the speech I wanted to use for my analytical paper
because I have always been extremely interested in World War II and anything affiliated with it. Also,
I actually had two grandfathers that served in the Philippines fighting alongside American soldiers as
guerilla fighters against the Japanese invaders during the war. President Reagan was the one who
presented the speech but to my slight disappointment, he did not actually prepare it himself. The
speech was actually written by Peggy Noonan, the primary speechwriter and special assistant to
President Reagan. After reading and watching footage of the speech, I found it to be a great
collaboration between the speaker and the writer. President Reagan s 40th Anniversary of D Day
speech was given exactly forty years after D Day, the Normandy beach landings that took place on
June 6, 1944 in Normandy, France. More specifically, he delivered the speech at Pointe du Hoc,
Normandy, France where United States Army Rangers scaled the cliffs to take out German artillery
emplacements that were raining shells on Omaha, Utah, Gold, Juno, and Sword beach where other
Allied forces were landing. Despite the German artillery not being there once they got to the top, the
artillery replaced by

The Negro Artist And The Racial Mountain By Langston Hughes
The Negro Artist and the Racial Mountain is a short essay written for The Nation Magazine by the
poet Langston Hughes, it quickly became a manifesto for the Harlem Renaissance. The Racial
Mountain , is the racial struggles that black Americans face in all areas, but with a particular focus on
art. It explores issues of standardisation and a form of cultural identity crisis with black artists in
America who rather than accepting themselves with a cultural pride, try to emulate the white
Americans. Hughes asserts that black artists should stop trying to copy whites as they will never create
anything great that way. Instead they should draw from black culture and express it through art with
pride. He uses an unidentified promising young black poet to affirm these views, one day this poet
told him I want to be a poet not a Negro poet . This statement to Hughes meant I want to be a white
poet , or more alarmingly to Hughes I want to be white .
Hughes understands the poet s desires to be a desire to turn away from his African American heritage
and instead absorb the white culture. Hughes essay raises the concerns of the Harlem Renaissance as it
celebrates African American innovations such as blues, spirituals, jazz, and literary works which
engage African American life. He highlights that, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

This must be considered a high margin, much bigger than Amazon.com s. However, unlike a
production company, most of eBay s costs are not variable costs but rather operating expenses.
Contrary, Amazon.com s business model has a high degree of Cost of Sales and achieves a gross
margin of only 22.35% in 2010. The majority of costs are captured in the operating margin. eBay s
operating margin is also much higher than that of Amazon.com. The pattern repeats itself in the pre
tax margin. * Return on Invested Capital | eBay | Amazon | | 2007 | 2008 | 2009 | 2010 | 2009 | 2010 |

Target Data Breaches Case Study
Target to the Office of Personnel Management the private sector and government equally feel the after
effects of data breaches. Data breaches can result in lawsuits from the affected victims. Lawsuits
continue to harm a company s finances and reputation long after the data breach occurs. A major
example of this situation is the Minneapolis based retailer Target, which generated a vast amount of
media coverage around the holidays in 2013, because of its data breach. Even though it has been
nearly two years since the breach was announced, Target is still feeling the effects. Credit card
companies and the banks that issue the credit cards were negatively impacted by the breach. Both
parties endured high costs as a result of the need to reissue

Plate Tectonics and Crust Oceanic Lithosphere
| Lithosphere | Ecology (NASC 1093) | | The Lithosphere * The lithosphere is the hard shell of the
Earth, consisting of the crust and the topmost part of the upper mantle. * It is a relatively thin layer,
about 31 to 62 miles (50 to 100 km) thick under the oceans and 93 miles (150 km) thick on the
continents. * It contains the minerals, rocks and soils that humans have used for building materials,
metals and agriculture. * This layer is composed of the upper crust, about 3 miles (5 km) thick in the
oceans and 40.3 mles (65 km) thick on the continents, and the upper mantle, which makes up the
remainder. Two types of Lithosphere * Oceanic Crust * Continental Crust Oceanic Lithosphere * the

As the overlying plate lifts up, it also forms mountain ranges. In addition, the diving plate melts and is
often spewed out in volcanic eruptions such as those that formed some of the mountains in the Andes
of South America. * At ocean ocean convergences, one plate usually dives beneath the other, forming
deep trenches like the Mariana Trench in the North Pacific Ocean, the deepest point on Earth. These
types of collisions can also lead to underwater volcanoes that eventually build up into island arcs.
Three styles of convergent plate boundaries * Continent continent collision * Continent oceanic crust

lithosphere subducts underneath the continental lithosphere * Oceanic lithosphere heats and
dehydrates as it subsides * The melt rises forming volcanism * E.g. The Andes Ocean ocean collision
* When two oceanic plates collide, one runs over the other which causes it to sink into the mantle
forming a subduction zone. * The subducting plate is bent downward to form a very deep depression
in the ocean floor called a trench. * The worlds deepest parts of the ocean are found along trenches. *

Euthanasia Discussion
Whose responsibility is it to decide when, where, and under what conditions a person is to die? This
question inevitably brings up discussion of spirituality, beliefs, and legislation. Euthanasia is an idea
that has been around for decades yet as we progress in technology and medical competency the
discussion screams to be addressed formally by passing legislature. Euthanasia must be taken out of
the hands of lawmakers and put into the hands of the thousands fatally ill patients trapped in their own
bodies and/or minds. It is our responsibility as a society of profound thinking individuals to discuss
this difficult and troubling issue that has plagued the lives of families all over the entire world. We
must debate on an issue that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As of right now there are two countries that have legalized euthanasia, The Netherlands and Belgium,
along with Australia s Northern Territory. In the United States there is only one state that has legalized
PAS, which is Oregon. PAS is defined as the prescription or supplying of drugs with the explicit
intention of enabling the patient to end his or her life by an overdose (Willems et al. 2000). The debate
has multiple angles of support and opposition. The leading support groups for euthanasia center
around the fact that it is their lives to control. As Dorothy Rasinski Gregory states,
Ask the average physician, attorney, or layperson what kind of death he or she would prefer and a
variety of responses might be heard: in my sleep; . . . after I ve had a chance to bring closure to a
family problem; . . . with dignity; . . . while still in possession of my faculties; . . . with little or no

PROACTIVE Mnemonic Analysis
Throughout the course of Health Information 371, we have looked at various tools that are used or
could be used in the field to help design, build, and implement systems. These tools explored concepts
that were mostly related to the medical standpoint on how to diagnose patient s through decision
making techniques. This helps the health professional make an accurate diagnosis based off of
evidence and not speculation. Within the Health Information field, as informatics specialists we need
to consider all of these techniques when designing the systems, creating policies, and updating the
servers. Having knowledge on these tools will assist us when creating technologies, which will give
health professionals all the necessary techniques to give the patient the best possible care available.

PROACTIVE
PROACTIVE is a mnemonic that helps health professionals come up with the best possible treatment
plan by looking at the problem from different points of view. The PROACTIVE mnemonic is split up
into three sections: defining the problem, determining the alternatives, consequences, and trade offs,
and integration and exploration. In the first section (PRO), it looks at defining the problem, reframing
the question, and focusing on the objective. This allows health professionals to look at the problem as
broadly as possible to ensure that they have considered all of the possible consequences and who will
be affected by the problem before deciding on an objective. Once the objective is set you can look at

The Detrimental Effects of Soda and Cola
The Detrimental Effects of Soda
What is your favorite soda? Coke? Do you know what is in soda? Cutting down on soda can lead to a
healthy and better lifestyle. Studies show that soda, though it tastes good, has many negative effects
that outweigh the positive effects. Soda, especially diet, is detrimental to the health of your body.
My cousin s teacher did an experiment with coke. She put a tooth in coke and left it for at least a
week. The next time they checked the tooth had disintegrated. The coke had eaten away at the tooth. If
this can happen to a tooth imagine what it does to your body.

Coke s new C2 and Pepsi Edge hope to solve this problem without compromising taste but there are
still many other ingredients in C2 and Edge that can lead to obesity. Tooth Decay is another problem
affecting the US. Both sugar and phosphoric acid from sodas contribute to it and the soft drink
industry admits to it. But the NSDA (National Soft Drink Association) also says that soft drinks aren t
the sole cause of tooth decay.
A lot of sugary foods, from fruit juices to candy and even raisins and other dried fruit, have what
dentists refer to as cariogenic properties, which means they can cause tooth decay. Though other foods
have cariogenic properties soda definitely has the largest percentage of these properties.
A federally funded study of nearly 3,200 Americans 9 to 29 years old conducted between 1971 and
1974 showed a direct link between tooth decay and soft drinks. Numerous other studies have shown
the same link throughout the world, from Sweden to Iraq. Soda has become the number one choice
beverage in the US. The younger you start drinking soda daily the more likely you are going to
develop osteoporosis, tooth decay, and a myriad of other ailments when older. Soda is okay in
moderation but there are many alternatives. (Duyff) Soda is not the only beverage that can quench
your thirst there are a bonanza of other fluids. These are healthier than soda and can help you stay
away from the detrimental beverage,

The Two Components Of Blood Pressure
1. The two constituents of blood pressure are systolic pressure and diastolic pressure; the highest and
lowest pressure readings during ventricular systole and diastole, respectively. Pulse pressure is the
difference between these two readings and represents the blood being pushed into the aorta from the
left ventricle. However, a blood pressure value can be given as an average pressure in the arteries
which forces the flow of blood from the heart. This value is the mean arterial pressure (MAP). Cardiac
output (CO) and Total Peripheral Resistance (TPR) are the physiological determinants of MAP. CO is
the volume of blood pumped by one ventricle in a given period of time (Silverthorn, 2007). It is
determined by the heart rate (HR), which is the number of beats per minute, and the stroke volume
(SV), which is the volume of blood pumped by a ventricle during a contraction. Venous return is the
volume of blood with returns to the heart via the vena cava. With reference to the Frank Starling
relationship, if CO increases, venous return should also increase, however changes in vasoconstriction
can affect the venous return, thus effecting MAP. According to Poiseuille s Law, the radius of the
arterioles directly impacts the resistance of blood flow to peripheral circulation, which is termed TPR.
Blood volume also impacts the MAP. A larger blood volume will exert more pressure on the arterioles
and therefore increase blood pressure. Furthermore, the kidneys can filter the blood

Essay On Dichloropropene
Dichloropropene Use on California s Strawberry Fields
California is rich in history. The Golden State was a destination for gold seekers and is still the
launching pad for many entrepreneurs. Californians have a special culture for innovation. It is no
wonder that Californians are dreamers, go getters adventurous people. The first gold rushers must
have been incredibly ambitious, albeit loco, to cross the entire stretch of North America via covered
wagon.
It is this spirit of innovation, endless work, and demand for nonstop business that has driven
strawberry farmers to depend on the organochlorine that is dichloropropene. An organochlorine is
manufactured from chlorinated hydrocarbons, or simply put, its three essential ingredients are
chlorine, carbon and hydrogen (Friis, 2016). While the use of dichloropropene has undoubtedly
boosted growth of fields and bank accounts, it is known to do exponential harm. This is called
bioaccumulation (Friis, 2016). Another example of this is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The follow up commentary on the statement in the report is not forgiving, but further explains that

result in cancer, and that swallowing and inhalation is highly poisonous (EPA, 1986). Further studies
done with animals proved that exposure to dichloropropene led to cancers affecting all organs of
urinary, digestive and respiratory systems (EPA, 1986). Some people might discount the findings of
these studies on animals because humans and animals might metabolize chemicals differently.
However, the adverse effects on the animals are so severe that it cannot be denied that the pesticide is
poisonous. The EPA reported in 1986 that workers (those who would apply the pesticide in the fields)
may be exposed to dichloropropene in the range of 0.15 to 23.99 mg/year (EPA,

P 51 Mustang: A Fighter and an Escort changes the course of World War II
Long before the B 17 came to be and, in fact, long before the United States would enter the Second
World War, the Army Air Corps put out a request for bomber prototypes. Three companies answered
the call with Boeing Airplane Company being one them. Originally labeled the Model 299, Boeing
raised eyebrows in excitement by flying their offering 2,000 miles nonstop at an average speed of 252
mph from the plant in Seattle, WA to Wright Field, OH. As stated in the book Boeing Aircraft since
1916 by Peter M. Bowers (1966) (P. 245), the flight, the name, the armament, etc. ...resulted in a rash
of publicity unlike that given to any individual aeroplane since the transatlantic flight of Lindbergh s

Borderline Personality Disorder And Borderline Personality...
In the United States, 1.6% of the adult population has been diagnosed with borderline personality
disorder (Lenzenweger, M.F. p.1, www.nimh.gov). In the same vein, 2.6% of the adult U.S population
have also been diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Borderline personality disorder, commonly shortened
to the acronym BPD, is frequently misused to mean bipolar disorder. While both of these disorders
share similarities in symptoms and behaviors, they are also different. Borderline personality disorder
is a cluster B (dramatic) personality disorder that is characterized by mood instability, relationship
instability, frequent uncertain self image, and impulsivity.
Borderline personality disorder, a mental illness that, in this day and age has little known regarding it.
Categorized as a cluster B, or dramatic, personality disorder, it can be a debilitating and quite
destructive mental illness to have. As debilitating as this disorder is, the research surrounding this
particular personality disorder is fairly young, and still receives skepticism in regards to diagnosis.
Some try to link this disorder to bipolar disorder, saying that it is a branch of bipolar disorder. Others
argue that it is its own, independent mental illness. Though the studying of this topic is not the biggest
issue, there is still debate over it. However, Borderline Personality Disorder is distinctly different from
Bipolar Disorder and is a completely separate diagnosis. The history of Borderline Personality

New football stadium coming to Las Vegas
Excitement has engulfed Nevada following the news that a new stadium could soon grace the world
famous Las Vegas Strip. On August 26, The Las Vegas Review Journal reported that a 62 acre piece of
land belonging to a consortium of banks from New York and Dallas was favored as the venue to host
the $1.9 billion, 62,000 sitter Raiders football arena. The banking consortium operating under the
Nevada Land Group LLC includes Credit Suisse Management, Barclays Bank, NexBank, and
Highland Capital Management. The much sought swathes of land lie west of Mandalay bay and
Interstate 15. The cost of land, and undisclosed site infrastructure is expected to cost between $350
million to $400 million. The deal, whose details are yet to be fully revealed, is a partnership between
Raiders Football Team, Las Vegas Sands Corporation and the state of Nevada.
If the plans are realized, a company called Majestic Realty will be tasked with building the ultra
modern stadium. Owing to the stadium revelations, the Raiders is planning to write to the Football
governing body, the National Football League to request for permission to relocate the franchise to
Las Vegas from its current base at Oakland Alameda Coliseum in Oakland California. The multi
purpose stadium was constructed in the mid 60 s is shared by both professional baseball and football

The Thucydides Trap Summary
Mr. Allison first coined the phrase The Thucydides Trap, a trap where a rising power will inevitably
challenge the ruling power that could most likely end in war. The Thucydides Trap is occurring in the
21st century between the US, the ruling power, and China, the rising power, who are getting
increasingly more powerful on the international stage. War is most likely possible between the two
powers, but past history shows that the US and China can get out of the trap through peaceful means.
The first evidence that the author uses to support his thesis is previous examples of the ruling power
being challenged by the rising power. The first example that author uses is the rivalry between Athens
and Sparta, which ended with the Peloponnesian war and with Sparta the victor. The war happened
because Sparta and Athens had entangling alliances with other city states who went to war with each
other and called the superpowers into the war. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even though previously they were on friendly terms, the UK felt threatened by Germany goal of
having a powerful navy and sought allies in Europe to counteract Germany. The entangling alliances
that UK and Germany made brought the whole world into WW1, which ended as the UK and its allies
as the victors. Although 12 out of 16 examples of the Thucydides Trap ended in war, the chart in the
article shows that it is possible to get out through peaceful means.
The second evidence to support his thesis is that the Chinese economy will overtake the US economy.
The Chinese economy is rising significantly, its economy in 1980 was smaller than the Netherlands,
while in 2014 the Chinese increment of growth of its GDP is equal to the entire Dutch economy. As
shown in the GDP chart in the article, the Chinese GDP is growing significantly compared to the rest

A major health problem for nearly 26 million Americans is asthma. This total includes more than 7
million children. Asthma causes millions of lost school and work days every year and is the third
leading cause of hospitalization among children. There is no cure for asthma, but the good news is that
it can be managed and treated, allowing you to live a normal, healthy life ( Learn About Asthma ,

In 1816, a French physician named Rene Laennec invented the stethoscope, which allowed physicians
to listen to the lungs of patients with asthma. Laennec was convinced that the muscles involuntarily
contracted the airways. The spirometer became an important medical tool in 1846. It allowed
physicians to measure the strength of a patient s lungs, as well as how much air could be inhaled. In
1860, Henry Hyde Salter, an asthmatic English physician, penned his research on several hundred
patients, and his realization that asthma tended to become worse when the patients were sleeping. His
recommended treatment for the asthma attacks: drink strong black coffee. He also found that asthma
responded to belladonna, known as deadly nightshade, which, of course, is very poisonous. But, a
chemical known as atropine, which is combined with belladonna, helped to relieve asthma attacks. In
1892, Sir William Oster, an English physician, described three mechanisms of asthma, which has
formed the basis of today s treatments of asthma. Sir William Oster proposed that asthma was caused
by muscle contractions, inflammation and abnormal nerve activity within the airways. By the early
part of the 20th century, scientists were able to produce a variety of different drugs that were able to

Fatalism In Robert Graves I, Claudius
Fatalism is the belief that all events are predetermined and are inevitable. Throughout history fatalism
has shaped the founding and fall of of many empires, cultures, and peoples. Out of these, The Roman
Empire has probably been the most influenced by fate. In Robert Graves I, Claudius, fatalism shapes
the destiny of one man, who after complications with family and friends, fighting against tyranny, and
fate, sees himself become emperor of Rome. Fatalism plays a major role in the narrative structure of
the story. In the first few pages of the story, Claudius explains to the readers that everything which

The House Of Polonius Monologue
In scene two act one, the house of Polonius is conveyed to the reader through two separate dialogue.
The first dialogue is between Lord Polonius and his servant Reynaldo. The servant obediently receives
instruction to deliver some goods to Polonius s son Laertes, a young man vacationing in France.
Furthermore, the true for purpose of this long journey is for his Laertes to be spied on, and progressing
away from from temptations that come with inexperience. Polonius does not drop the hammer on his
sons engagements, so to say, but he does have a inadequate amount of trust for a father son
relationship. The moment Reynaldo exits, Ophelia enters in a worrisome huff, and the two person
dialogue is maintained as a ceaseless theme in this scene as

Martyrs In Peter Brown s The Cult Of The Saints
The veneration of the saints has been a long standing tradition in the Catholic faith, one that is highly
exalted. Saints, in the Catholic faith, are meant to be ideal role models for the practicing Catholic, so
that every Catholic may be closer to God through the saints. Saints lived an extraordinary life as a
human and lead an example for all Catholics to follow. While the canonization for sainthood is a long
process, before the canonization process, martyrs were the saints that people looked up to. Martyrs
had been physically harmed and killed for their faith. This idea of self mortification is very real in
many of Catholic saint s lives. Self mortification can take on many forms including, but not limited to,
fasting and self harm.
The Cult of the Saints by Peter Brown discusses the role that the saints and martyrs play in the ...

Saint Rose of Lima fasted about three times a week, held herself to very severe penances, wore coarse
clothes, and took a vow of virginity. The daily schedule of Saint Rose of Lima included twelve hours
devoted to prayer, ten hours devoted to work, and two hours for sleep (Graziano, 2004). This intensive
schedule full of pain and suffering began when the Lord became manifest to her, allowing her to know
of His holy presence and give her courage and strength in that fact. After this manifestation, Saint
Rose of Lima began fasting daily, abstaining from meat, and ate only enough coarse food to sustain
her. Her penances continued to become more harsh and she began constantly wearing a metal spiked
crown and an iron chain around her waist. At this point she would go days without food and her only
rest would be on a bed of broken glass, stone, potsherd, and thorns. Throughout this time of severe
harm and injury, there were many apparitions of the Lord to Saint Rose of Lima to help her remain in
her suffering for the Lord (Aymé,

Analysis Of Yanggaw Or Affliction By Richard Somes
Yanggaw or Affliction (2008) by Richard Somes is a story of family struggle as they deal with their
daughter s (Amor) transformation into an aswang (monster) due to an unidentified illness. Amor, a
loving and courteous daughter, morphs into a monster that lives on the blood of others every midnight.
Such transformation leads to several conflicts within the family and the community. This paper will
discuss the conflicts in the family in relation to Amor s transformation and how it affected their
relationship with one another.
When Amor exhibited signs of illness, the family consulted a supernatural faith healer named Lazarus
but to no avail. The situation escalates and Amor is found near a river with blood all over her mouth
and body. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The rest of the family, on the other hand, believes that the Amor they had known and loved before has
already fused with the evil. Inday says to his husband, Junior, Your daughter is a beast. This implies
the belief that in some way, Amor is already a beast, no matter how hard she try to fight this evil
persona. Inday acknowledges that this reality cannot be changed anymore so the last resort is to chain
their daughter to prevent her from killing people from the community. These two conflicting
perspectives threaten their relationships with one another. Junior invokes his patriarchal power in the
family and decides to unchain Amor despite objections from the rest of the family. Inday and the rest
protest against this patriarchy and choose to leave Junior and Amor in search of a more peaceful life.
Eventually, they return as they realize that they should stick together as one family to face the tragedy
of Amor s transformation. This illustrates how the duality of identity created through the intervention
of the aswang can bring out the best and the worst in people. On one hand, the tragedy resulted to the
clash of beliefs which threatened the family relationship but it also brought back the family together to
face the

Sociological Portrait Research Paper
A sociological portrait serves to illuminate one s life and show how their identity and experience in
life or an aspect of life has been shaped by the micro environment factors. These factors could be
social class, ethnicity, race, and gender among others. Each of these environmental factors plays a
critical role in determining one s identity. For instance, one s family experience is largely determined
by the factors that surround them. Being a girl might result in having a different family experience,
depending on specific cultures. Also, one s race might influence the way their families act or conduct
themselves. This paper develops a sociological portrayed for my friend, Mary Annette Brown. The
paper will analyze how the forces of social ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First, gender influences the roles that Mary is expected to undertake in the society. Given that she is a
lady, the role of the breadwinner is left for her father. She is expected in contributing towards ensuring
that her little sister Ann stays grounded and behaves in a respectful and expected manner. In the
family, Mary is expected to take a role in helping out in domestic duties. Together with her sister, she
is expected to help out in house chores. Such roles reinforce the traditional gender roles that women
are required to undertake. They serve to indicate the stereotypical assumptions that women are
supposed to take on the domestic house chores such as cooking and cleaning while the boys undertake
the more interesting duties or wait around to be served (Lindsey, 2015). Essentially, it ties down the
women as indicated by the role that Mary s mother has taken in the household. While her father takes
on the important task of being a breadwinner and has a job, Mary s mother remains at home to cater
for the family. This is a communication enough to Mary and her sister that the women rank slightly
lower than the men. As such, they are bound to have a family experience that is torn between trying to

Streetcar Named Desire Analysis Essay

Desire the play was written in 1947 and was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1948.
It is an iconic passage alluding to gender stereotype which exists in our society, the dynamic between
the powerful and the weak. The particular section from scene three portrays how women are being
dominated and victimised by men. It would be perceived that the extract has been written in the

The Boom And Bust Of The Housing Market Bubble
As a member of the Millennial s and as a student of economics, The Great Recession, the greatest
economic downturn we ve seen in 70 years is truly an intriguing topic. It is the first economic crisis
that many of my generation can truly say we lived through. With the burst of the housing bubble and
the failure of various financial institutions, the United States was dragged kicking and screaming from
the prosperous age of nearly uninterrupted economic growth since the early eighties, into an
unemployment rate of over 9% and a decline in Real GDP in the first time in decades. Years after the
end of the recession we still reel from its effects. How did the fiscal crisis begin in the first place?
What institutions helped exasperate the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This led to the recession of 81 82 but managed to get inflation under 5% from the high double digits it
was under Nixon at the cost of a rather high unemployment rate of 10%. Many argue that this and
other policies under the Reagan administration known as Reagonomics, were what led to the
economic prosperity that we enjoyed in the 90 s and 2000 s. Rather than discuss what caused the
economic growth of the era, we examine a few of the effects it had on markets, especially housing.
The family home has always been a major part of the American dream, but it had an even bigger role
in the Great Recession. Under legislative pressure banks eased up on a lot of the loans that they gave
out. According to Peicuti (2014), In the 2000s, the deregulation of the financial system and
development of the originate to distribute banking model led commercial banks to finance subprime
mortgages (p.7). It then goes on to lists several characteristics that these borrowers may have
including, relatively high default probability as evidenced by, for example, a credit bureau risk...
bankruptcy in the last five years... debt service to income ratio of 50 percent or greater (p.7). All of
this tells us the same story, these were risky loans to make. We ve learned from class that the interest
rate is an indicator of the amount of risk on an asset. These loans however were not properly assessed
for the amount of risk on them. In short, the banks had taken on more risk than they

Educational Implications for Heidegger s Views On Poetry...
Educational Implications for Heidegger s Views On Poetry And Thinking
ABSTRACT: I discuss some of the educational implications emerging from Heidegger s views on
poetry, thinking, and language. Specifically, Heidegger s views on the neighborhood between poetry
and thinking suggest that most accepted methods of teaching poetry are in error, because they ignore
this neighboring relation. The importance of this relation is presented and clarified. I then discuss the
implications of Heidegger s view for teaching poetry. Heidegger s series of three lectures, later
published as The Nature of Language has some very significant implications for education. (1) In this
paper I focus on the second lecture. In opening his second lecture, ... Show more content on

Thinking about language means entering a region where method does not reign. It means following a
specific path in that region. But in thinking about the nature of language we encounter specific
problems. When we speak of the nature of language, we are already using language to discuss its
nature. Furthermore, we are already acquainted with the nature of language as people who use it, even
if we cannot clearly articulate and define this nature. In short, we are entangled in a lagging behind the
topic of our inquiry. There is a way out of our predicament. If we look around the region of thought,
without taking the entanglement lightly, we will note that what Heidegger calls the country of thinking
is open in all directions to the neighborhood of poetry. Thus, today, when scientific method tends to
suffocate thinking, we can return to thinking through reading and listening to poetry.
To be specific, the fact that the country of thinking is open in all directions to the neighborhood of
poetry, can often help a person follow those paths of thinking that concern him or her. How? Quite
often if you read and listen to great poetry with an openness to the language and to the thoughts and
experiences expressed in the poem, and with a comportment to think about what you heard, with care
for the world, and

An Imperfect Offering by James Orbinski
An Imperfect Offering is a powerful personal memoir from a James Orbinski, a Canadian who has
spent most of his adult life in front line humanitarian work in the world s worst conflict zones. Despite
its dark chapters, it is also a hopeful story about the emergence of Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) as
a new and independent agent of civil society, and the possibilities of making the world a better place.
In An Imperfect Offering , James Orbinski tells the story of people who have been harmed by war, and
humanitarian workers who have come to heal them when possible. He engages in deep reflection on
the nature of humanitarian response and the many threats to this most human activity. He has sharp
criticism for governments who act to cause ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Orbinski s use of evidence is very convincing because of the perspective that he gives. As a doctor in
war torn countries, Orbinski is able to give a first hand account of what is occurring on the ground.
This evidence is valuable to the study of international relations since information can become twisted
when taken out of context. In addition, this first hand account includes more than just the military,
economic and philosophical factors that resulted in a conflict, which are usually discussed when
studying from a textbook. Instead, this experience allows for the reader to understand what humans
are truly capable of and it restores a human element to a political narrative. Orbinski s writing never
stoops to sentimentality, even as he describes these profoundly moving moments. However, because
the book is written as a memoir, the author does not come into evidence counter to his own, and if
there is information that the author does not know he openly states this fact, and continues to move on
with his story. This is typically, seen as a pitfall to most ideas. However, since Orbinski does not deal
with counter evidence, his stories have not been tainted and come purely from his own point of view.
In addition, by stating his lack of knowledge in certain areas it allows the reader to go off

The Importance Of Hometowns
Growing up in a large city can provide children with important lessons on diversity and allow them to
explore incessantly. Growing up on a coast or near a mountain range supplies opportunities such as
hiking, swimming, and other great outdoor activities you may not find elsewhere. Unlike both of
these, I was raised in a small midwestern town with seemingly very little to do; however, this small
town has helped shape who I am today. Hometowns can provide many meaningful experiences
important to one s development and that is what Smithton, Illinois has done for me. I believe that my
hometown of Smithton, Illinois played a vital role in helping me develop my sense of creativity.
Living in a neighborhood outside of town I often ran out of things to do, but luckily my best friend
lived up the street. We were young, creative, and a little reckless which led to a lot of fun. Directly
behind my house were the woods, a ceaseless amount of trees, brush, and bugs. After walking and
exploring for a few minutes, the trees eventually diverge and there is a humongous downhill path. My
bestfriend and I saw this hill has a great opportunity; soon, we had a mission to build ramps so we
could jump over a monstrous brush pile at the bottom of the hill. We spent plenty of time seeking
action and trouble as the adrenaline junkie kids we were. Nevertheless, living in a small town means
you have plenty of boundaries and a finite number of opportunities. For this reason we soon grew
bored of

Offshore drilling is just one of the major environmental issues that has existed for many years and still

also political, economic, and ethical issues. All of these tie into the huge debate over offshore drilling

Still people make the argument that oil is just too important to stop drilling and that if anything we
should drill more. Again author Margaret Haerens talks about how According to the nation academy
of Sciences, current cleanup methods can only remove a small fraction of the oil spilled into the
ocean, leaving the remaining oil to continue affecting ocean ecosystems over time (126). The long
term impacts of offshore spills continue to corrupt the oceans and who knows when they will
completely be gone. The effects of the oil directly on sea life such as sea birds, fish, shellfish, and
other sea life are extremely dangers. Studies have shown that tiny amounts of oil as little as one part
per billion can harm pink salmon and cause their eggs to fail (Haerens Margaret). Imagine swimming
in the ocean when a large pool of toxic oils comes floating along right into you when you are trying to
enjoy a day at the beach. Not only is offshore drilling have one of the longest lasting ecological
impacts on society and living things on and off shore, it effects our economy as well. But is offshore
drilling hurting the economy more than it is helping? At this point in my research is was pretty clear
that it was. Author Margaret Haerens, goes to great detail concerning the price of oil and its effects of
drilling more of it by saying Oil spills exact a serious toll on costal economies, including our

Essay on How Hitler Mantained his Power
Consent is the permission for something to happen or the agreement to do something. Although
admittedly it played a part in initiating Hitler s power and then later maintaining it, it was not the most
important element. Terror was the most important element in maintaining his power. The other
elements that were important in maintaining Hitler s power include propaganda, necessity of
economic depression and the removal of other political parties in Germany. Interpretations A and B
refute the view that consent was the most important element in maintaining Hitler s regime in power.
Interpretations C and D however support the view that consent played an important element, albeit
interpretation C was consent through propaganda. Hans Rothfels ... Show more content on

Propaganda was an important element as it enhanced the effectiveness of the terror; the Nazis ensured
the population knew what would happen to Nazi opposition. One case in particular highlighting the
high level of terror is that a court case by a Cologne Judge. A middle aged woman was sentenced to
death even though her crime was just theft of curtains, clothes and coffee. The population became
aware of the ruthlessness of the courts mainly via the press. Historian Robert Gellately enforces this,
crime and punishment stories were crafted according to specific guidelines laid down by the
Propaganda Ministry and press officers to obtain the maximum public relations effect . Propaganda
Minister Josef Goebbels concluded that propaganda was required to strengthen the existing support
from people and to convince those who did not support the party that they needed to. As Goebbels
once said, The essence of propaganda consists in winning people over to an idea so sincerely, so
vitally, that in the end they succumb to it utterly . The ability to convince the population into
succumbing to ideology meant that there was as a whole a collective acceptance of the regime which
meant there were no mass uprisings or opposition against it. Thus, Hitler s regime was able to
maintain power through the publishing of terror through propaganda. The economic crisis was also

The Scientific Method Essay
The Scientific Method is the standardized procedure that scientists are supposed to follow when
conducting experiments, in order to try to construct a reliable, consistent, and non arbitrary
representation of our surroundings. To follow the Scientific Method is to stick very tightly to a order
of experimentation. First, the scientist must observe the phenomenon of interest. Next, the scientist
must propose a hypothesis, or idea in which the experiments will be based around. Then, through
repeated experimentation, the hypothesis can either be proven false or become a theory. If the
hypothesis is proven to be false, the scientist must reformulate his or her ideas and come up with
another hypothesis, and the experimentation begins again. This ... Show more content on

Furthermore, flies were observed laying eggs where the maggots formed. Thus, he concluded that
maggots are the result of flies, not spontaneous generation. He then called the principles behind his
experiment Metodo Scientifico or The Scientific Method.
The first cases of what would be considered properly using the Scientific Method can be found earlier,
though, back in the studies of Galileo, early in the 17th century. He first observed that heavy objects
gain speed as they fall. He then proposed, or hypothesized, that the rate of falling of massive objects
was proportional to the distance that the object has fallen. Following the Scientific Method, he tested
his hypothesis and found it to be false, since objects falling unequal distances do not fall in the same
amount of time, as his hypothesis led to. Since his hypothesis failed, he made a new one, which
proposed that the rate at which an object falls is directly proportional to the time the object has spent
falling. This was tested by rolling balls down an inclined plane and calculating the speed and time
values from those observations. Later, these experiments led to the discovery of the gravitational
constant g, and a better understanding of the Scientific Method.
The Method has been used many times since Galileo conducted his experiments, and it has been
considered a valid way of conducting experiments since

Alienation Of The Individual From Society
Alienation is a word that reflects feelings of isolation and loneliness. The feelings of alienation can be
very depressing as the individual feels he/she is unwanted and does not belong to the place or society
where they are currently living in. It is seen as if a person cannot provide for another or does not
appear as the rest, they do not have any value. The two main characters such as Gregor within The
Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka and Tessie within The Lottery by Shirley Jackson both demonstrate
the issue of alienation of the individual from society. It is expressed within both readings that as
individuals we are often aliened by others although influence of the individual in relation to the
communities around them many individuals cannot exist within society as a free thinking, autonomous
person. Within The Lottery , the author Shirley Jackson emphasizes on the idea of the lottery where a
list of names from each member of the household in each family were put into a black box and one
name would be selected at random. The following name selected would be stoned to death by the
villagers including their family. This was a tradition followed by the villagers at end of the warm
season to show a sacrifice to ensure wealth, crops, and prosperity within the future. Some
communities feel alienated because of the repression or the policies of the governments in place.
Traditions are usually passed down from previous generations due to the people being

  • 2. Ronald Reagan on the 40th Anniversary of D-Day Pointe Du... Before I get to the analysis portion of this assignment, the speech I have decided to go with is former President Ronald Reagan s speech on the 40th Anniversary of D Day that was delivered at Pointe du Hoc, Normandy, France, on June 6, 1984. This is the speech I wanted to use for my analytical paper because I have always been extremely interested in World War II and anything affiliated with it. Also, I actually had two grandfathers that served in the Philippines fighting alongside American soldiers as guerilla fighters against the Japanese invaders during the war. President Reagan was the one who presented the speech but to my slight disappointment, he did not actually prepare it himself. The speech was actually written by Peggy Noonan, the primary speechwriter and special assistant to President Reagan. After reading and watching footage of the speech, I found it to be a great collaboration between the speaker and the writer. President Reagan s 40th Anniversary of D Day speech was given exactly forty years after D Day, the Normandy beach landings that took place on June 6, 1944 in Normandy, France. More specifically, he delivered the speech at Pointe du Hoc, Normandy, France where United States Army Rangers scaled the cliffs to take out German artillery emplacements that were raining shells on Omaha, Utah, Gold, Juno, and Sword beach where other Allied forces were landing. Despite the German artillery not being there once they got to the top, the artillery replaced by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Negro Artist And The Racial Mountain By Langston Hughes The Negro Artist and the Racial Mountain is a short essay written for The Nation Magazine by the poet Langston Hughes, it quickly became a manifesto for the Harlem Renaissance. The Racial Mountain , is the racial struggles that black Americans face in all areas, but with a particular focus on art. It explores issues of standardisation and a form of cultural identity crisis with black artists in America who rather than accepting themselves with a cultural pride, try to emulate the white Americans. Hughes asserts that black artists should stop trying to copy whites as they will never create anything great that way. Instead they should draw from black culture and express it through art with pride. He uses an unidentified promising young black poet to affirm these views, one day this poet told him I want to be a poet not a Negro poet . This statement to Hughes meant I want to be a white poet , or more alarmingly to Hughes I want to be white . Hughes understands the poet s desires to be a desire to turn away from his African American heritage and instead absorb the white culture. Hughes essay raises the concerns of the Harlem Renaissance as it celebrates African American innovations such as blues, spirituals, jazz, and literary works which engage African American life. He highlights that, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 5. Target Data Breaches Case Study Target to the Office of Personnel Management the private sector and government equally feel the after effects of data breaches. Data breaches can result in lawsuits from the affected victims. Lawsuits continue to harm a company s finances and reputation long after the data breach occurs. A major example of this situation is the Minneapolis based retailer Target, which generated a vast amount of media coverage around the holidays in 2013, because of its data breach. Even though it has been nearly two years since the breach was announced, Target is still feeling the effects. Credit card companies and the banks that issue the credit cards were negatively impacted by the breach. Both parties endured high costs as a result of the need to reissue ... Euthanasia must be taken out of the hands of lawmakers and put into the hands of the thousands fatally ill patients trapped in their own bodies and/or minds. These tools explored concepts that were mostly related to the medical standpoint on how to diagnose patient s through decision making techniques. This helps the health professional make an accurate diagnosis based off of evidence and not speculation. Within the Health Information field, as informatics specialists we need to consider all of these techniques when designing the systems, creating policies, and updating the servers. In the first section (PRO), it looks at defining the problem, reframing the question, and focusing on the objective. Cutting down on soda can lead to a healthy and better lifestyle. Studies show that soda, though it tastes good, has many negative effects that outweigh the positive effects. Soda, especially diet, is detrimental to the health of your body. My cousin s teacher did an experiment with coke. She put a tooth in coke and left it for at least a week. The next time they checked the tooth had disintegrated. The coke had eaten away at the tooth. If this can happen to a tooth imagine what it does to your body. Tooth Decay is another problem affecting the US. Both sugar and phosphoric acid from sodas contribute to it and the soft drink industry admits to it. But the NSDA (National Soft Drink Association) also says that soft drinks aren t the sole cause of tooth decay. A lot of sugary foods, from fruit juices to candy and even raisins and other dried fruit, have what dentists refer to as cariogenic properties, which means they can cause tooth decay. Though other foods have cariogenic properties soda definitely has the largest percentage of these properties. A federally funded study of nearly 3,200 Americans 9 to 29 years old conducted between 1971 and 1974 showed a direct link between tooth decay and soft drinks. Numerous other studies have shown the same link throughout the world, from Sweden to Iraq. Soda has become the number one choice beverage in the US. The younger you start drinking soda daily the more likely you are going to develop osteoporosis, tooth decay, and a myriad of other ailments when older. • 10. The Two Components Of Blood Pressure 1. The two constituents of blood pressure are systolic pressure and diastolic pressure; the highest and lowest pressure readings during ventricular systole and diastole, respectively. Pulse pressure is the difference between these two readings and represents the blood being pushed into the aorta from the left ventricle. However, a blood pressure value can be given as an average pressure in the arteries which forces the flow of blood from the heart. This value is the mean arterial pressure (MAP). Cardiac output (CO) and Total Peripheral Resistance (TPR) are the physiological determinants of MAP. CO is the volume of blood pumped by one ventricle in a given period of time (Silverthorn, 2007). It is determined by the heart rate (HR), which is the number of beats per minute, and the stroke volume (SV), which is the volume of blood pumped by a ventricle during a contraction. Venous return is the volume of blood with returns to the heart via the vena cava. With reference to the Frank Starling relationship, if CO increases, venous return should also increase, however changes in vasoconstriction can affect the venous return, thus effecting MAP. According to Poiseuille s Law, the radius of the arterioles directly impacts the resistance of blood flow to peripheral circulation, which is termed TPR. Blood volume also impacts the MAP. A larger blood volume will exert more pressure on the arterioles and therefore increase blood pressure. Furthermore, the kidneys can filter the blood ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Golden State was a destination for gold seekers and is still the launching pad for many entrepreneurs. Californians have a special culture for innovation. It is no wonder that Californians are dreamers, go getters adventurous people. The first gold rushers must have been incredibly ambitious, albeit loco, to cross the entire stretch of North America via covered wagon. It is this spirit of innovation, endless work, and demand for nonstop business that has driven strawberry farmers to depend on the organochlorine that is dichloropropene. An organochlorine is manufactured from chlorinated hydrocarbons, or simply put, its three essential ingredients are chlorine, carbon and hydrogen (Friis, 2016). Further studies done with animals proved that exposure to dichloropropene led to cancers affecting all organs of urinary, digestive and respiratory systems (EPA, 1986). In the United States, 1.6% of the adult population has been diagnosed with borderline personality disorder (Lenzenweger, M.F. p.1, www.nimh.gov). In the same vein, 2.6% of the adult U.S population have also been diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Borderline personality disorder, commonly shortened to the acronym BPD, is frequently misused to mean bipolar disorder. While both of these disorders share similarities in symptoms and behaviors, they are also different. Borderline personality disorder is a cluster B (dramatic) personality disorder that is characterized by mood instability, relationship instability, frequent uncertain self image, and impulsivity. Borderline personality disorder, a mental illness that, in this day and age has little known regarding it. Categorized as a cluster B, or dramatic, personality disorder, it can be a debilitating and quite destructive mental illness to have. As debilitating as this disorder is, the research surrounding this particular personality disorder is fairly young, and still receives skepticism in regards to diagnosis. Some try to link this disorder to bipolar disorder, saying that it is a branch of bipolar disorder. Others argue that it is its own, independent mental illness. Though the studying of this topic is not the biggest issue, there is still debate over it. • 15. The Thucydides Trap Summary Mr. Allison first coined the phrase The Thucydides Trap, a trap where a rising power will inevitably challenge the ruling power that could most likely end in war. The Thucydides Trap is occurring in the 21st century between the US, the ruling power, and China, the rising power, who are getting increasingly more powerful on the international stage. War is most likely possible between the two powers, but past history shows that the US and China can get out of the trap through peaceful means. The first evidence that the author uses to support his thesis is previous examples of the ruling power being challenged by the rising power. The first example that author uses is the rivalry between Athens and Sparta, which ended with the Peloponnesian war and with Sparta the victor. The war happened because Sparta and Athens had entangling alliances with other city states who went to war with each other and called the superpowers into the war. ... Although 12 out of 16 examples of the Thucydides Trap ended in war, the chart in the article shows that it is possible to get out through peaceful means. The second evidence to support his thesis is that the Chinese economy will overtake the US economy. The Chinese economy is rising significantly, its economy in 1980 was smaller than the Netherlands, while in 2014 the Chinese increment of growth of its GDP is equal to the entire Dutch economy. In 1860, Henry Hyde Salter, an asthmatic English physician, penned his research on several hundred patients, and his realization that asthma tended to become worse when the patients were sleeping. His recommended treatment for the asthma attacks: drink strong black coffee. He also found that asthma responded to belladonna, known as deadly nightshade, which, of course, is very poisonous. But, a chemical known as atropine, which is combined with belladonna, helped to relieve asthma attacks. In 1892, Sir William Oster, an English physician, described three mechanisms of asthma, which has formed the basis of today s treatments of asthma. Sir William Oster proposed that asthma was caused by muscle contractions, inflammation and abnormal nerve activity within the airways. By the early part of the 20th century, scientists were able to produce a variety of different drugs that were able to relieve the muscle ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Saints lived an extraordinary life as a human and lead an example for all Catholics to follow. While the canonization for sainthood is a long process, before the canonization process, martyrs were the saints that people looked up to. The importance of this relation is presented and clarified. I then discuss the implications of Heidegger s view for teaching poetry. Furthermore, we are already acquainted with the nature of language as people who use it, even if we cannot clearly articulate and define this nature. He first observed that heavy objects gain speed as they fall. He then proposed, or hypothesized, that the rate of falling of massive objects was proportional to the distance that the object has fallen. Following the Scientific Method, he tested his hypothesis and found it to be false, since objects falling unequal distances do not fall in the same amount of time, as his hypothesis led to. Since his hypothesis failed, he made a new one, which proposed that the rate at which an object falls is directly proportional to the time the object has spent falling. This was tested by rolling balls down an inclined plane and calculating the speed and time values from those observations. Later, these experiments led to the discovery of the gravitational constant g, and a better understanding of the Scientific Method.
