Flahtahl s Propaganda Triumph Of The Will ( 1938 )
Since the advent of documentary film with Robert Flaherty s Nanook of the North (1922), those with
power have sought to use it as a tool in their arsenal to reach people. Advances in communications
technology in the early twentieth century allowed it to be used as a one way message delivery system
to the masses, however the ways in which this has been implemented have varied hugely based on
context and political viewpoint. Through consideration of Leni Riefenstahl s propaganda Triumph of
the Will (1935), and Lorentz s advocacy documentary The River (1938) this essay will analyse the
concepts of persuasion, education and propaganda in documentary film, discussing the similarities and
differences between these areas. It is worth first briefly defining the ideas that this essay will cover,
education is at its purest form the provision of information and systematic instruction while persuasion
is the attempt to induce change through reasoning. Propaganda, conversely, is non objective/biased
information used to promote a point of view. Although on paper the distinctions seem clear, in
practical use it quickly becomes apparent how much these lines can blur. If persuasion is a technique
that attempts to change viewpoints, how far does it really sit from this idea of propaganda? Both films
that will be discussed were produced in the nineteen thirties, a turbulent political landscape where the
great depression and high unemployment rates in Europe had put democratic capitalism under

How Globalization And Technology Changes Have Impacted The...
The company I have chosen to write about is Amazon. Amazon, was launched on July 16, 1995 by
founder Jeff Bezos in his two car garage in Bellevne, Washington. When Amazon first launched as a
website that only sold books, but Jeff Bezos wanted Amazon to be much more than a bookstore, he
wanted it to be an everything store. This paper will answer the required questions listed below:
Assess how globalization and technology changes have impacted the corporation you researched.
When Amazon first started, it began as a website for only books and as the internet began to expand so
did the products that Amazon selling and shipping. Over the course of the last 21 years, Amazon has

has paid off for Amazon in a big way.
Assess how the vision statement and mission statement of the corporation influence its overall
success:
Amazon.com has had a clear focus and a solitary mission since it began. Founder Jeff Bezos has
publicly referred to the Amazon.com mission statement as the guiding force behind his leadership
decisions many times in the company s history. It can be concluded that the success of Amazon.com as
the top Internet retailing company in the world is due at least in part to their unwavering commitment
to this mission and the daily execution of it. Amazon is continued to grow and continues to include
one of its most important asset in its continued growth. It continued investment in human capital. The
Amazon mission statements is followed by all their locations and it is not only a statement but a way
of life.
Evaluate how each category of stakeholder impacts the overall success of this corporation. All
stakeholders play an important role in the continued growth in Amazon. The stockholder will continue

Difference Between Fly Fishing And Spin Fishing
Fly Fishing Vs Spin Fishing : Fly fishing is a fishing experience that is unlike any other. Being up in
the clear mountain waters just casting away, time flies faster than ever. Even on a day when the fish
aren t biting, and it just seems like the nothing can go right, just being there is enough to pass the day.
Then there are those days when catching a fish is effortless, every knot that is tied is perfect, and every
cast is better than the last one; those are the days that are unforgettable. There have been times when it
seems as if it is getting dark after just a few casts. Fly fishing is something that everyone should try.
Fly fishing and spin fishing, how are they different; how are they similar? Fly fishing is the casting of
artificial flies that come in all styles and sizes, in order to catch a fish. This style of fishing is mostly
done in streams and creeks for various types of trout. Spin fishing is the casting of artificial, or live
bait in order to catch various types of freshwater fish. Most spin fishing is done is rivers, lakes, and
ponds. The only real similarity between the two is that they both catch fish. However, that is where the
similarities stop ( The Difference Between... ). This means that everything else is different in its own
way. Fly fishing is different from spin fishing in its techniques, baits, and equipment.
The first difference between fly fishing and spin fishing is in their techniques. The first technique is
casting. Fly fishing uses a

Athenian Women Essay
Athenian Women
Athenian society was very dynamic in many areas while it was strict in regard to the treatment of
women. Although Athenian women were protected by the state and did not know a different way of
living, they were very stifled and restricted. The only exception was slaves, and heteria, prostitutes,
and this was due to the fact that they had no male guardians. Since these women were on there own
they had to take care of themselves, and therefore were independent. In a more recent and modern way
of viewing the role of a woman, independence and freedom to do as one likes is one of the most
important aspects of living. In Athens the wives had none of this freedom and the prostitutes did. Who
then really had a better ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But when we come to the age of maturity and awareness, we are thrust out and battered away, far from
the gods of our forefathers and parents, some to good homes and some to abusive ones. And after one
single joyful night live, we are compelled to praise this arrangement and consider ourselves lucky.
Sophocles, Fragment 583 from terus.
A scorned wife spoke this in one of Sophocles lost plays. Sophocles has seized the essence of what it
means to be a woman in Athens at this time. The marriage of an Athenian woman and man is hard to
define exactly because there has not been an exact word translated that is equivalent to the word,
marriage. The Athenians have words that translate as physical acts for a marriage for the sake of
having a child, they also have words that translate as cohabit or live together. This leads to the
conclusion that our traditional connotation of marriage as a bond is not the way it was in Athens. The
reasons for a man and a woman to be joined in marriage were nor for love, as we would expect, it
would be for profitable and more pragmatic reasons. Usually most beneficial to the male s in the bride
s life. Since the women were not supposed to be unattended they are assumed to have accepted what
was decided for them in terms of a husband. ...A husband normally addresses his wife as woman. The

Wallace Stevens Accomplishments
Wallace Stevens, one of the most well known American modernist poets. He has revolutionized the
modernist style of poetry and his poetry is an inspiration to all who read it. His poetry is renowned for
its vivid imagery and themes.
Wallace Stevens was one of the most famous modernist poets and his impact on poetry will forever be
remembered. Wallace Stevens was always into poetry, even when he went to college. While at Harvard
Stevens contributed poems and short stories to the campus literary magazine (American Cultural

society of America (1951) and the Pulitzer Prize (1955) to name a few (Literary Cavalcade).Critics

remembered as one of the great modernist American Poets. Wallace Stevens ability to transcend the
limits of experience, combined with his technical prowess as a poet, makes for otherworldly poetry of
the everyday world. You can see this in his poem simply titled Anecdote of the Jar . On first glance,
this poem seems insignificant and not very interesting but if you look at it closely the beauty shines
through. The poem can seem dry and boring when he describes the jar, And round it was... the jar was
gray and bare (lines 2 and 10). Even though these lines might seem boring it is part of Stevens Imagist
poetry style that stressed absolute precision in presenting the image itself rather than oblique
description. Another interesting aspect of Stevens poetry is that it can be perceived multiple ways. The
jar was round upon the ground / And tall and of port in the air. This line could be read as the jar being
round, tall, and large; or the port could be a metaphor comparing the jar and air to the port and sea, a
passage way (lines 7 8). It (the jar) did not give of bird or bush. The line could be perceived

Reflection Of Visual Art
1a. Central focus for the segment
The central focus of the lesson is for students to demonstrate and show use of space, contrast, and
balance while creating an original idea that displays and the use of positive and negative space in an
equal amount. The purpose is for students to understand the elements and principles of visual arts,
which are value, contrast and balance. Students also learn how these concepts are still being used in
today s society.
1b. Linking skills, knowledge, and context
This is a first year class, so many students are unfamiliar with terms, such as value, contrast, space,
and balance, in terms of art. The students are familiar with the words, but are unfamiliar with how it
pertains to art. New definitions and techniques are introduced in this lesson. Students will continue to
use these new vocabulary terms in future lessons.
In this project students are required to make a total positive space image. To complete this, students
are to use line and shape in their design. The previous projects and lessons in this course focused on
the use of line and shape, so this project reinforces those terms and techniques so students will use
them in future projects.
The last aspect of this assignment is for students to see how the use of space makes interesting
designs. I show the students images of logos and symbols that effectively use positive and negative
space. With this, students can relate to the images and see how these techniques are still being used

Stakeholders Evaluation
Clearly, these researchers had their own agenda to acquire a medical breakthrough that would change
the history of science and contribute to the greater good of society. However, their authority was used
in an unwarranted manner to accomplish their goals, regardless of their respectable intentions in
wanting to make medical progress. In reviewing these researchers and medical practitioners actions
during the 1950 s which entails series of unethical behaviors and violation of human right, it develops
an essential need to establish guidelines in the attempt to protect patient s rights and privacy.
Furthermore, due to the alternatives that arise throughout this case, there are many possible outcomes
to be considered that could have a significant impact on stakeholders if these courses of action are
fallowed. These solutions consequences may involve the tentative research, an advance way of life for
the Lack s family, political turmoil, economic health impact and a society whose cells may have
similar experience.
The impact of any solution to the Lacks situation could be far reaching. Stakeholders in any identified

Analysis Of The Book New Orleans
Upon returned to the United States Oswald moves around quite frequently, eventually ending up in
New Orleans. This is where the most mysterious and perplexing chapter of his life took place. In
1963, Oswald is employed at the Reily Coffee Company, where he is fired from only months later. He
also starts a one man chapter of the Fair Play for Cuba Committee and began pro Castro propaganda
in New Orleans. Oddly enough, the return address on Oswald s pro Castro leaflets was 544 Camp
Street, New Orleans. This happened to be the same building where Guy Banister, a former FBI agent,
was working to overthrow Castro. A close comrade to Banister was the familiar David Ferrie. Both
Banister and Ferrie did investigative work for Carlos Marcello, the mafia chieftain in New Orleans
and the prime target of the Kennedys war on organized crime. Was Oswald playing a kind of double
game in New Orleans? His actions raise important questions about his true attitude toward Cuba and
whose side he was really on. In September of 1963, Oswald was seen on a bus heading from Houston
to Mexico City, where he tries to defect once more. He plans to fight for Castro and return to Russia.
He attempts to obtain a visa to Cuba, and he was told that he could only enter Cuba under a temporary
visa, and only in transit to the Soviet Union. Oswald is later informed by KBG officers that it would
take several months to obtain a Soviet visa and that without one he would not be able to go to Cuba.

The Authority Of Faith In Cormac Mccarthy
Despite his emphasis on the father s unrestricted love for his son, Cormac McCarthy persistently
reminds the reader of the novel s dire surroundings through his introduction of malevolent characters,
and the use of a disheartened setting thus conveying his bleak suspense for the future of civilization
and cracking light on humanity s naive nature. The man, ( Wilson) as McCarthy like to call our
mysterious fellow in the book. McCarthy never reviles his full name to anyone.Unqualified maternal
love between father and son. The theme among a son and father is appearing, altruistic as together the
characters the role of conqueror. Humanity survival, hope the encouragement of the moral and wicked,
the authority of faith can be seen throughout the novel in different characters presentations. While
McCarthy s novels share Dewey s broadly anti supernatural and anti ecclesiastical commitments, there
are some areas of divergence between the two that allow us to reflect critically on the distinction
between religion and the religious. ( Metcalf) Survival was used the father and son to stay alive. The
fire in the road is also very significant because deprived of it the boy and his father would
undoubtedly have frozen to death. The fire signifies refinement and triumph.
The novel offerings the bibliophiles with measures that characterize the actions that make unpredicted
devastation so dangerous and violent. Representative criticism works from a subjective basis, it is

The Language Of Technology Is Helpful For Communication
The Language of Technology
Language evolves along us as we grow up. I grew up talking Cantonese with my parents. At
elementary school, I took ESL classes. With my brothers, I spoke Pidgin with them. As technology
grew exponentially, language became a part of technology s close companion. Social media has
changed the way people have spoken in the past with new acronyms and new words, and connected
people left behind in the social world. While people focus on the negative effects of social media,
technology is helpful for communication in many aspects.
In 1876, Alexander Graham Bell experimented with the telegraph, to transmit human voice to a distant
place using electricity (transition.fcc.gov). It was later patented to become the first telephone to send
the first intelligible sentence in 1876. Alexander Graham bell wrote in 1878, I believe in the future
wires will unite the head offices of telephone companies in different cities, and a man in one part of
the country may communicate by word of mouth with another in a distant place. This shows that the
phone was created to unite people from distant places. The internet was created back in 1960 s as a
way for government to share information (USG). Back in the Cold War, the internet was used as a
substitute to phones, as the internet sends information through packets, while all phones would go
down when the phone line is cut. This shows that the internet is more reliable than phones and is
created to increase communication.

The Conspiracy of Water Fluoridation Essay examples
Few object to the therapeutic use of fluoride to stop tooth decay, but fluoridation, the addition of
fluoride to the public water supply, can spark avid controversy. Most dentists, medical groups, and
government officials argue that fluoridation is a cheap and risk free venture that doubles cavity
prevention. In contrast, a small minority of dentists and conservative political groups argue that
fluoride is a hazardous, poisonous substance that should not be consumed. Some antifluoridationists
even claim that fluoridation is an untrustworthy form of socialized medicine. But rather than just
attacking fluoridation as socialized medicine, opponents originally claimed that it was a conspiracy to

Constitutionality was frequently mentioned during a 1954 House Congressional hearing on the
Fluoridation of Water that discussed the enactment of a national ban to protect the public health from
the dangers of fluoridation of water (U.S. Congress, 1). Opponents appealed to the First Amendment
in two contexts. First, a pamphlet clearly depicted the view that fluoridation constitutes a socialistic
form of mass medication violating our State laws and the Federal Constitution... [and] involves an
unwarranted interference with individual liberty (U.S. Congress, 323). Placing fluoride in the public
water supply denied opponents the freedom of expression to not be medicated. Christian Scientists
also claimed that fluoridation violated the freedom of religion. At the hearing, James Watt, a
spokesman of Christian Science, testified that mass medication, constituted a violation of fundamental
religious rights by violating a Christian Scientist s right to heal with just prayer (U. S. Congress, 59).
Opponents argued that as long as alternatives to water treatment existed, fluoridation was
unconstitutional and Un American due to its violations of individual rights.
The visible conflict of paradigms results from the opposition s conscious identification with political
ideologies, whereas the fundamental cause of fluoridation opposition emerges from the individual s
subconscious craving for natural purity. According to Morris

Native American Population Expansion
The events of the expansion of British America, the decline of the Native American population in the
east, and the transition from indentured servitude to race based servitude in the period of 1660 1700
shared a close relationship with one another (Schultz, 2013). First, the creation of proprietary colonies
allowed their ruler to establish governments as they wished, as long as their laws aligned with those of
England. This freedom to rule a colony was extremely attractive because if ruled successfully, the
ruler or proprietors of that colony had an opportunity to become wealthy. Furthermore, African slaves
discovered that rice could be easily grown in areas where it was thought that there were little
agriculture benefits. Next, William Penn promoted a colony which encompassed religious freedom
and easy access to land. Penn recruited people from Europe to inhabit his colony, and what we now
know today as Pennsylvania, grew exponentially. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There were four main reasons why the Native Americans and the British colonists could not live
harmoniously. First, the English colonists could not help themselves when it came to encroaching on
the Indian s land. Next, vast differences in cultures lead to problematic disagreements. Then,
differences in worship and religion created misunderstanding between the two groups. Finally, the
most significant reason was alliances made between the colonies. These alliances formed one common
enemy as the colonists no longer feuded with one another because England was becoming the
dominating force of the New World. Wars and rebellions followed, eventually pushing the Native
Americans farther inland toward the

The Four Pillars Of The Dominican Order
1. Explore and explain the religious vision of St Dominic, on founding the Dominican order. The
Dominicans, also known as the Order of Preachers, are a Catholic religious Order founded by St
Dominic in 1216 and which still exists in over a hundred countries today. Whilst travelling through
France, Dominic encountered a group called the Albigensians, who believed that an evil God created
the world and thus all physical matter was bad. The belief system of the Albigensians conflicted with
the Dominican belief that the true God created all, and that human interactions with His creation helps
us understand God, the Creator. Dominic saw that the Albigensians were rejecting the dignity of their

Being involved in a community does not simply mean being present within it, but to also be willing to
share your life with other people. To Dominicans, community life should be a celebration of unity
despite diversity, and finding the common good. Dominicans are called to share their lives with all
people of the world, because God loves all people. By fulfilling the pillars of prayer, study, and
community, we are enabled to give service to the world. Giving service involves preaching the Word
of God, which is represented by how we serve others, as well as who we are as individuals. Therefore,
we are also called to look after ourselves. 3. Reflect on how being part of the Blackfriars community

Summary Of Rhetorical Strategies
Many authors have found that persuading an audience is sometimes the easiest way to grasp the
attention of many and do so by using logos, pathos and ethos techniques. Sometimes misleading and
based around personal opinions, understanding the initial reasons for using these strategies can explain
why they are used. Based on my research these rhetorical strategies can be found throughout all three
videos provided. The first two videos titled Drunk History Claudette Colvin and Rosa Parks and
Drunk History John Adams vs. Thomas Jefferson showed the least amount of these strategies, while
the last video Breaking News: Some Bullshit Happening Somewhere provides the best demonstration
of the use of rhetoric.

The Iraq Iran War And State Security
The Iraq Iran War and State Security With Iraq initiating the conflict, with its declaration of war on
September 22, 1980 and the subsequent invasion of the Khuzestan province, they will be treated as the
aggressor. Therefore the theoretical framework will revolve predominantly around Iraq. With this
Posen s components of the security dilemma will be used as the building blocks for state security s
explanation of the conflict, beginning with the indistinguishability of offense and defense. As
previously stated, determining the motives or intentions of states are difficult and near impossible to
do with any certainty. Iraq would make their intentions known with the psychological and material
actions of the Ba athist party and Saddam Hussein. It is important to once again look briefly look at
previous actions to attempt a dissection. From 1974 1978 the Kurds in Northern Iraq were revolting
against Ba athist rule, as they were being terrorized and displaced during the military crackdown.
Despite Iran s inability to determine the motivation behind Iraq s actions, and the potential effect on
their state, they decide to take action. The attacks on the Kurds were viewed as an attempt at a power
build up, through their attempt to push Kurds out of Iraq into lower Iran. Iran viewed this as an
attempt to strain their government and resources with the forced exile of an unwanted faction of their
country. In an attempt to protect their interests and procure a secure state, Iran sends

The Aspects Of The Moral Tales In Chaucer s Canterbury Tales
In the General Prologue of Chaucer s Canterbury Tales, the Host instructs the pilgrims to tell Tales of
best sentence and moost solaas (GP 798). In other words, in order to win the contest, the pilgrims must
tell stories which both impart serious meaning/wisdom ( sentence ) as well as entertainment ( solaas ).
While the pilgrims all achieve these two goals to varying degrees, The Pardoner s Tale seems at first to
succeed very well in providing both moral teaching and entertainment. However, while his tale
effortlessly satisfies the solaas requirement, the Pardoner cannot truly provide the sentence he aims
for, as his lesson degrades into hypocrisy and he lacks the respect from the other pilgrims necessary to
afford his tale the impact he intends.
The Pardoner s Tale, an exemplum intended to demonstrate the phrase radix malorum est cupiditas
(greed is the root of all evil), tells of three riotoures (degenerates) who wish to find and kill Death.
(Pard 334, 463). A mysterious old man tells them that Death resides underneath a nearby tree, under
which the three men find a sack of gold instead. However the men do indeed find Death underneath
the tree, as they end up killing each other due to their own greed. This tale easily satisfies the solaas
requirement in its entertainment value. Firstly, the tale contains elements of mystery which make it
interesting. For example, the old man that points the three men to their demise is both enigmatically
old and inexplicably

a Slave, by Julius Lester. It compiled the experiences of ex slaves that they had during slavery, each of
their own stories, or thoughts, their first person accounts. Slavery in America started in 1619 when
Africans were shipped to Jamestown for labor. From then on, a long, cruel period started for them,
being enslaved and denied basic allow the human rights. However, are these experiences important or
not for contemporary Americans to read about? Yes, these first person accounts are important for them
to read, for they allow the voices of the long oppressed to be heard, it helps us learn from past
mistakes as to not make them again, and it gives a better understanding of the events that were not
even that long ago.
The slaves first person accounts about their experiences with slavery are important for modern
Americans to read because it allows their long oppressed voices to be heard. Slaves of the 1600 s were
oppressed for an extreme amount of time put down, silenced, degraded, dehumanized. Their words did
not meet the ears of whites without punishment, unless it was for the benefit of the slave owner, like
when a slave betrayed other slaves about revolt plans, or even after the events of slavery when blacks
were paid to lie to other blacks. The white folks would pay n*****s to lie to the rest of the n*****s to
get the farming done for nothing... but we

Immigrants During The 1920s
During the 1920s, the United States was a tense era. The influx of immigrants caused fear and bigotry,
especially towards the Roman Catholic religion (Holsinger, 1968). The citizens of the State of Oregon
labeled immigrants as un American, claiming that the immigrants would inject unpatriotic practices
into the culture. The citizenry professed to protect American principles of the time and intended to
pass on their values to the youth through public school education. Their goal was to provide parallel
education to all children, thus controlling the content taught. Furthermore, Oregon was under the
watchful eye of the powerful Ku Klux Klan (KKK), which enforced radical patriotism. Case Summary
The premise of this lawsuit was to oppose

Opium War China Imperialism
The connotation of the word may give the meaning of power or someone who is powerful. But the
definition based off an example gives a literal definition; the act of a country to take over other nearby
countries, to gain power and economic influence. An example of imperialism is the Opium Wars
(Britain and China). The Chinese and the British were in war because British wanted to dominate and
have all the goods that came from China like opium. This is why the example of the the Opium War
will help understand the definition of what imperialism means in a real life situation. It all started with
looking for which surrounding territory was more beneficial for the British. Having leaders to lead
them into the war. Lastly, by having major events ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Chinese sold many things that European markets were interested in. The British, observing the
demand for opium in China, both for legitimate reasons, and by addicts, grew and sold large amounts
of opium, and sold it to intermediaries for silver that would eventually sell it on to the Chinese. The
balance of trade being upset, and the concern over the growing number of Chinese opium addicts, led
the Chinese government to impound foreign ships, destroy cargos, and arrest merchants. Basically
suppressing the trade. The British did not like China s decisions. Therefore the British responded
violently, they had a couple of bloody battles, the British won numerous times , dominating Chinese
armies. China tried fighting back but it made things worse. Another major event that occurred in the
Opium wars is the Treaty of Nanjing. This treaty is a big event because it gave Britain a lot of
advantages, like the Chinese giving full control of Hong Kong to Britain. Also giving Britain more
ports where they could trade Opium, the last thing that the British was given by the Chinese in
accordance to the treaty was money. This basically showed that the British won the first Opium war,
due to all the privileges the British gained from the Chinese s peace

Descriptive Essay On A Summer Day
One hot summer s day in the last week of August, my family and I went camping all the way over in
Tennessee. But, every time we go on a trip like this a mystery pops up. But, then again mysteries can
also happen when you are not doing anything. So, it was just ordinary camping for now. It was just
going to be our family, but Elizabeth decided to invite Daniel Hoffman and Thomas Flipsbargen since
their parents were out of town. Ugh! They re really annoying boys, to me at least. Elizabeth doesn t
think they are annoying, and neither does April or Jamie, who by the way decided to come along as
well, so it may just be me. I do get kind of nervous around boys. We would be traveling 434.8 miles or
6 hours and 31 minutes in a van with only a little bit of luggage space, and only a few rest stops along
the way! And, then we would have to eat, and the kids might be noisy, and... There are a lot of
possibilities to consider when you are taking a big trip with numerous amounts of people. We were
going to take our trusty van, but, it only holds eight people and we had ten people coming along. We
planned to leave at six in the morning. We packed that night making sure to pack clothes, our tooth
brushes, brushes, and a few toys for Justin and Ellie, cooking necessities and other things. I slept
restlessly that night, my mind was wandering. What kind of mystery will be waiting for me? Will
there be one? Should I just go to sleep? Elizabeth finally rolled over in her bed and

Dreamers Marketing Strategy
Market for Dreamers Still a successful reality The Dreamer s Market garners in success as it returns
for it s fourth year in Parramatta s riverside theatre. Hundreds of shoppers flocked throughout the day
to view the Australian hand made products. The dreamers market returned for it s fourth annual event
of Australian hand made products. Designers displayed their innovation and creativity from fashion
and food to gifts and kitchenware, as the community came to support local business. A turnout of
hundreds of people left designers far from disappointed as they experience a personal selling
environment. It is clear to shoppers that this is no average market as you enter an artistic space of
imaginative craftsmanship. The market organisers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
You really can t compete with such a raw and passionate environment, it s not something you can
experience through a computer screen, says local shopper Taylor Baker whom stresses the importance
of supporting locally grown and founded businesses. It is stated in the last release from The Australian
Bauru of Statics that online retail accounts for 3.0 per cent of total retail turnover. It is no secret that
the rapid growth in online selling is a continuing development as technology advances but is our need
for a convenient bargain compromising quality and the Australian economy? Business owners
Samantha Clarke (Four Red Hens) and Robyn Waite (Arjay Creations) stress the need for participation
in local events such as the dreamers market to continue this experience for both shoppers and sellers.
A personal environment means consumer loyalty, we can accommodate our products to our customers,
and that s cheaper than any online advertising, says owner of Four Red Hens, Robyn Waite who
chooses to steer from the online shopping market. Both stall owners products are completely
Australian hand made items from sustainable products. I try to source as much of my materials locally
as I can, it has to be a continuous process of support, said Samantha Clarke from Arjay Creations.
Both stall owners met at previous Dreamers Markets and return each year for the passionate
communal space. You have to love it, everyone who s here has a passion for what they re doing and
you can feel it, said Robyn

Social Stratification In Park Avenue
The film Park Avenue relates to social stratification topic discussed in class since it is the arrangement
of a system into different social classes, and it is influence by education, income, occupation, place of
living, etc. For instance, in this video they explained how United States is a country of inequalities. In
addition, it is like a monopoly game in which the wealthy drown their opponents on their dust. There
is a gap between the rich and the poor in which the richest people can use political manipulations to
get the benefits that they want. Also, they explained how different was United States years ago when
there was an existence of a vast middle class, and nowadays the amount of richest people has been
growing up. They also talked

The Case of the Untouchable Water Carrier Essay
The Case of the untouchable water carrier Introduction: The caste system was and continues to be a
terrible reality for people in Europe and Asia. Even though it is not as prominent now as it was before
it was abolished, it still affects many people all around the world. To be born into a status, one that you
can never leave or outlive is a great tragedy. How does one come to terms with knowing that a choice
was never an option? It doesn t matter if all the laws changed today, the fact remains that the human
race is habitual: people will continue to operate based on what they have done for years. The abolition
of slavery and the caste system didn t mean that people would stop doing it but merely meant that it
was no longer legal to do ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unfortunately, the staff led with their beliefs and as a result jeopardized the operations of the bank and
should be reprimanded as such. However, as an MNE the bank will be aiming to keep costs down and
focus on keeping both customer and employee happy so the untouchable water carrier will most likely
be the one to feel the brunt of the reprimand. Conclusion/Managerial Implication: As a manager at that
bank Raman should have done more research on how the lifestyle of that particular region operated
compared to where he was transferring from. His decision to hire the untouchable was not a wrong
decision because, the fact still remains that the caste system was abolished. However, if he had done
his research he would have known that the mindset of his staff was not up to par with his beliefs or the
current law in regards to the caste system. He is now in a predicament where he will either risk losing
clients or renege on a promise that he gave to Kishore by offering him the job in the first place. This is
a lesson for other MNE s as well because as they move into unknown territory they must thoroughly
research the area and the people that live there to understand the culture and to aid in an easy diffusion

who was given the task to create and protect mankind. Because of a trick played upon Zeus at
Mecone, Zeus became infuriated and took fire from the humans as punishment. As the protector of
mankind, Prometheus stole the fire from Zeus and gave it back to the humans, subsequently he caused

Acorn s Insanity Defense
Annotated Bibliography
Acorn, A. (2011). S Insanity a demeaning defense? Examining the ethics of offender pathologization
through the lens of the classics. Journal of Forensic Psychology Practice, 3, 204 231
Acorn s article analyzes whether the insanity defense is demeaning to the accused. The author raises
the question of, whether the defense counsel directly factors individual self respect when deciding
whether to advance to a trial or not? Acorn explores this question through the works of other
established authors comparing their thought and establishing similarities. Many argument place
emphasis on the idea that we should not punish the mentally ill for actions they cannot control. Acorns
article comparison can benefit my thesis by examining other professionals stance on the insanity plea
and what emphasis they place on the mentally handicapped. His article is well organized and does a
sufficient job comparing and contrasting various points of view. (peer reviewed journal in Psychology)

He also addresses the issue of normative disconnection among mentally ill and how our criminal
system demands conformity from those convicted in it. Further Blumoff compares quality of insanity
episodes and the aftermath that may follow severe collapses and unavoidable ill conduct. This can be
useful to my topic because it provides background of mental illness to support my thesis. The author
argues that insanity has a limit in each individual and if that limit is reached their actions will become
uncontrollable. Thus mentally ill should be excused when they reach this state due to the fact that they
cannot contain their actions. (peer reviewed journal in Law and

A Madman s Diary
Introduction A Madman s Diary is China s first modern short story. The author Lu Xun has been well
respected and regarded as one of the most well known political figures in China (Goldman 446 461).
Lu Xun has been praised as the warrior against traditional culture and feudal system.
Unique narrative structure A Madman s Diary is very special in its narrative structure. Its setup is very
different from the traditional narration in that it avoids the use of classical Chinese. Furthermore, the I
narration is used in the story which makes it very effective to involve the readers in the scenes of the
story. Lu Xun did not only open a new chapter in modern Chinese literature but also created a new
style of narration. Lu ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are several symbolic narrations in the story. The symbolism of the story is allegorical (Hanan
68). In the preface, Lu Xun uses an ironic technique by narrated in classical Chinese in order to show
a false and polite world made by cannibalistic feudal society. In the eyes of Lu Xun, the madman is
the hero who plays a better role in the society because only the madman knows the truth and can rise
in rebellion. The madman who is an innovative and reformed thought representative is a symbol of
oppressive man eating nature of the feudal system. Even though he tries his best to rise in rebellion, he
fails every time. He is trapped in his own mind and can t help considering that he s in the danger of
being eaten. The madman could not understand the conspiracy of eating him, so he was suspicious of
everyone. When the madman recovers, he is not the hero anymore; also he joins others to be one of
man eaters. Here, Lu Xun s message is clear: The oppressed masses are eaters or the accomplices (Sun
L. 464). Only the madman could find the truth of the eaters. However, other people including both the
empowered and the oppressed fail to see the oppressive man eating nature of the feudal system. In
addition, the story implies that the society is ruled by the feudal system, and people of all the classes
have to abide by the same feudal rules. Also, the story helps us

  • 2. Flahtahl s Propaganda Triumph Of The Will ( 1938 ) Since the advent of documentary film with Robert Flaherty s Nanook of the North (1922), those with power have sought to use it as a tool in their arsenal to reach people. Advances in communications technology in the early twentieth century allowed it to be used as a one way message delivery system to the masses, however the ways in which this has been implemented have varied hugely based on context and political viewpoint. Through consideration of Leni Riefenstahl s propaganda Triumph of the Will (1935), and Lorentz s advocacy documentary The River (1938) this essay will analyse the concepts of persuasion, education and propaganda in documentary film, discussing the similarities and differences between these areas. It is worth first briefly defining the ideas that this essay will cover, education is at its purest form the provision of information and systematic instruction while persuasion is the attempt to induce change through reasoning. Propaganda, conversely, is non objective/biased information used to promote a point of view. Although on paper the distinctions seem clear, in practical use it quickly becomes apparent how much these lines can blur. If persuasion is a technique that attempts to change viewpoints, how far does it really sit from this idea of propaganda? Both films that will be discussed were produced in the nineteen thirties, a turbulent political landscape where the great depression and high unemployment rates in Europe had put democratic capitalism under ... Even on a day when the fish aren t biting, and it just seems like the nothing can go right, just being there is enough to pass the day. • 8. Athenian Women Essay Athenian Women Athenian society was very dynamic in many areas while it was strict in regard to the treatment of women. Although Athenian women were protected by the state and did not know a different way of living, they were very stifled and restricted. The only exception was slaves, and heteria, prostitutes, and this was due to the fact that they had no male guardians. Since these women were on there own they had to take care of themselves, and therefore were independent. In a more recent and modern way of viewing the role of a woman, independence and freedom to do as one likes is one of the most important aspects of living. In Athens the wives had none of this freedom and the prostitutes did. Who then really had a better ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But when we come to the age of maturity and awareness, we are thrust out and battered away, far from the gods of our forefathers and parents, some to good homes and some to abusive ones. And after one single joyful night live, we are compelled to praise this arrangement and consider ourselves lucky. Sophocles, Fragment 583 from terus. A scorned wife spoke this in one of Sophocles lost plays. Sophocles has seized the essence of what it means to be a woman in Athens at this time. The marriage of an Athenian woman and man is hard to define exactly because there has not been an exact word translated that is equivalent to the word, marriage. The Athenians have words that translate as physical acts for a marriage for the sake of having a child, they also have words that translate as cohabit or live together. This leads to the conclusion that our traditional connotation of marriage as a bond is not the way it was in Athens. The reasons for a man and a woman to be joined in marriage were nor for love, as we would expect, it would be for profitable and more pragmatic reasons. Wallace Stevens will always be remembered as one of the great modernist American Poets. Wallace Stevens ability to transcend the limits of experience, combined with his technical prowess as a poet, makes for otherworldly poetry of the everyday world. You can see this in his poem simply titled Anecdote of the Jar . On first glance, this poem seems insignificant and not very interesting but if you look at it closely the beauty shines through. The poem can seem dry and boring when he describes the jar, And round it was... the jar was gray and bare (lines 2 and 10). Even though these lines might seem boring it is part of Stevens Imagist poetry style that stressed absolute precision in presenting the image itself rather than oblique description. Another interesting aspect of Stevens poetry is that it can be perceived multiple ways. The jar was round upon the ground / And tall and of port in the air. This line could be read as the jar being round, tall, and large; or the port could be a metaphor comparing the jar and air to the port and sea, a passage way (lines 7 8). • 13. Analysis Of The Book New Orleans Upon returned to the United States Oswald moves around quite frequently, eventually ending up in New Orleans. This is where the most mysterious and perplexing chapter of his life took place. In 1963, Oswald is employed at the Reily Coffee Company, where he is fired from only months later. He also starts a one man chapter of the Fair Play for Cuba Committee and began pro Castro propaganda in New Orleans. Oddly enough, the return address on Oswald s pro Castro leaflets was 544 Camp Street, New Orleans. This happened to be the same building where Guy Banister, a former FBI agent, was working to overthrow Castro. A close comrade to Banister was the familiar David Ferrie. Both Banister and Ferrie did investigative work for Carlos Marcello, the mafia chieftain in New Orleans and the prime target of the Kennedys war on organized crime. Was Oswald playing a kind of double game in New Orleans? His actions raise important questions about his true attitude toward Cuba and whose side he was really on. In September of 1963, Oswald was seen on a bus heading from Houston to Mexico City, where he tries to defect once more. He plans to fight for Castro and return to Russia. He attempts to obtain a visa to Cuba, and he was told that he could only enter Cuba under a temporary visa, and only in transit to the Soviet Union. • 15. The Language Of Technology Is Helpful For Communication The Language of Technology Language evolves along us as we grow up. I grew up talking Cantonese with my parents. At elementary school, I took ESL classes. With my brothers, I spoke Pidgin with them. As technology grew exponentially, language became a part of technology s close companion. Social media has changed the way people have spoken in the past with new acronyms and new words, and connected people left behind in the social world. While people focus on the negative effects of social media, technology is helpful for communication in many aspects. In 1876, Alexander Graham Bell experimented with the telegraph, to transmit human voice to a distant place using electricity (transition.fcc.gov). It was later patented to become the first telephone to send the first intelligible sentence in 1876. Alexander Graham bell wrote in 1878, I believe in the future wires will unite the head offices of telephone companies in different cities, and a man in one part of the country may communicate by word of mouth with another in a distant place. This shows that the phone was created to unite people from distant places. The internet was created back in 1960 s as a way for government to share information (USG). Back in the Cold War, the internet was used as a substitute to phones, as the internet sends information through packets, while all phones would go down when the phone line is cut. This shows that the internet is more reliable than phones and is created to increase communication. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

First, a pamphlet clearly depicted the view that fluoridation constitutes a socialistic form of mass medication violating our State laws and the Federal Constitution... Native American Population Expansion The events of the expansion of British America, the decline of the Native American population in the east, and the transition from indentured servitude to race based servitude in the period of 1660 1700 shared a close relationship with one another (Schultz, 2013). First, the creation of proprietary colonies allowed their ruler to establish governments as they wished, as long as their laws aligned with those of England. This freedom to rule a colony was extremely attractive because if ruled successfully, the ruler or proprietors of that colony had an opportunity to become wealthy. Furthermore, African slaves discovered that rice could be easily grown in areas where it was thought that there were little agriculture benefits. • 20. Stargirl Monologue I don t agree with Leo s choice because he only just made the problem even more difficult for Stargirl and himself. During the shunning and after his visit with Archie there were times where Leo would avoid Stargirl and also he wishes that they could be more like them or they could be more like Stargirl. He doesn t really do anything to fix the shunning. The only thing he did was change Stargirl into Susan, but it seems like it was more for Leo not for Stargirl. He seem to love Susan more than Stargirl because she finally more like them. Like the rest of Mika students. The Iraq Iran War And State Security The Iraq Iran War and State Security With Iraq initiating the conflict, with its declaration of war on September 22, 1980 and the subsequent invasion of the Khuzestan province, they will be treated as the aggressor. Therefore the theoretical framework will revolve predominantly around Iraq. With this Posen s components of the security dilemma will be used as the building blocks for state security s explanation of the conflict, beginning with the indistinguishability of offense and defense. As previously stated, determining the motives or intentions of states are difficult and near impossible to do with any certainty. Iraq would make their intentions known with the psychological and material actions of the Ba athist party and Saddam Hussein. It is important to once again look briefly look at previous actions to attempt a dissection. From 1974 1978 the Kurds in Northern Iraq were revolting against Ba athist rule, as they were being terrorized and displaced during the military crackdown. Despite Iran s inability to determine the motivation behind Iraq s actions, and the potential effect on their state, they decide to take action. The attacks on the Kurds were viewed as an attempt at a power build up, through their attempt to push Kurds out of Iraq into lower Iran. Iran viewed this as an attempt to strain their government and resources with the forced exile of an unwanted faction of their country. In an attempt to protect their interests and procure a secure state, Iran sends ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 22. The Aspects Of The Moral Tales In Chaucer s Canterbury Tales In the General Prologue of Chaucer s Canterbury Tales, the Host instructs the pilgrims to tell Tales of best sentence and moost solaas (GP 798). In other words, in order to win the contest, the pilgrims must tell stories which both impart serious meaning/wisdom ( sentence ) as well as entertainment ( solaas ). While the pilgrims all achieve these two goals to varying degrees, The Pardoner s Tale seems at first to succeed very well in providing both moral teaching and entertainment. However, while his tale effortlessly satisfies the solaas requirement, the Pardoner cannot truly provide the sentence he aims for, as his lesson degrades into hypocrisy and he lacks the respect from the other pilgrims necessary to afford his tale the impact he intends. The Pardoner s Tale, an exemplum intended to demonstrate the phrase radix malorum est cupiditas (greed is the root of all evil), tells of three riotoures (degenerates) who wish to find and kill Death. (Pard 334, 463). A mysterious old man tells them that Death resides underneath a nearby tree, under which the three men find a sack of gold instead. However the men do indeed find Death underneath the tree, as they end up killing each other due to their own greed. This tale easily satisfies the solaas requirement in its entertainment value. Firstly, the tale contains elements of mystery which make it interesting. For example, the old man that points the three men to their demise is both enigmatically old and inexplicably ...
