How To Describe Objectively What It Mean To Affect A...
1. The client is essentially begging for help. The client may not have anywhere else to turn and wants
to be taken seriously. The client likely believes that if she does not present severely, then she will be
dismissed and not get the help she desires. 2. The client has a tendency to exaggerate, overreact,
and/or be traumatized. This cognitive style may be due to some personality disorders as well as
depression. There is likely not any benefit to the client, unless she is merely seeking attention. 3. The
client would benefit from presenting more severely, such as for litigation, compensation, or disability
purposes. There is likely some external benefit to the client if she receives a diagnosis and the severity
of the diagnosis may ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Additionally, without interview data, most psychological assessments are virtually meaningless. 2.
Psychological Tests/Assessments: These measures typically identify a wide range of explicit
information about the client, such as attitudes, opinions, beliefs, and knowledge/facts. They also help
evaluate the client s level of functioning in comparison to the norm group. This is particularly
important in informing the diagnosis and treatment of the client. 3. Informant Reports: This involves
interviewing people who know the client, such as family members, friends, and teachers. These
reports can be helpful because they can provide different perspectives of the client. They may also
inform the clinician if the client s behaviors generalize across settings. 4. Records: By obtaining client
records, whether previous mental health records, medical records, legal records, or school records, the
clinician may find important information that the client did not report. Overall, incorporating several
different sources of information allows for a more comprehensive understanding of the client, which
leads to more accurate and effective diagnosis and treatment. An empirically grounded approach uses
the method of contrasted groups in order to create a measure that differentiates between groups. This
typically involves administering several items to two different groups, such as patients with

Coca Col Transparency, The Formation Of Sustainability...
Coca Cola CSR Accountability Due to the vastly growing demand for organizational transparency, the
formation of sustainability indices has assisted prospective investors by serving as educational tools
and allowing them to confidently engage with companies who create a positive social and
environmental impact. These indices, such as the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI), evaluate and
measure some of the world s most profitable companies based on criteria such as economic, social,
and environmental efforts (ESG) (S P Dow Jones Indices, 2015). Additionally, the Global 100 is
comprised of organizations who generate a minimum of two billion U.S. dollars per year and have
been screened in four areas, including sustainability disclosure, F score (financial), product category,
and sanctions (Corporate Knights, 2015b). Consequently, Coca Cola has been able to secure a spot on
at least one index in the past two years due to their excellence in the criteria mentioned above. While
these indices provide an investor with an objective evaluation of a firm, an examination into company
s annual sustainability report can offer in depth look into their internal competencies as it relates to
their specific sustainability goals and current progress. Therefore, after a thorough analysis and
comparison of Coca Cola s Sustainability Report (2015) and the methodology for both indices, many
similarities and differences are depicted that highlight both the strengths and limitations of all three

Reliability Analysis
Some researchers argue that the cost of spares is always an area where cost reduction can be of
significant. With the help of suppliers and equipment vendors, purchasing department can place orders
in the form of contracts or Service level agreement (SLA) that guarantee delivery lead times for the
designated inventory items. It makes business sense to shift the risk concerning the cost of
maintaining the inventory to the suppliers. Reliability is the probability that the plant will perform its
intended function satisfactory under specified environmental and operating conditions (British

Yan et al (2008) Ebeling (1997), pointed out the purpose of maintenance is to extend equipment life
and minimise the frequency of service interruption. Ebeling (1997) concluded that availability is the
important index of the all indices for power availability. Several maintenance types or tactics have
been suggested by many authors for example (Mowbray, 1991 and Kelly, 1997). There are mainly two
types of maintenance practices and these are breakdown and preventive maintenance. Breakdown
maintenance requires replacement of damaged part of the equipment during unscheduled maintenance
while preventive maintenance requires replacement of the components at pre determined intervals.
Condition based maintenance is used to monitor the condition of the equipment using condition
monitoring technique.
There is a general belief that corrective maintenance is less economical than preventive maintenance,
and all failures can then be prevented. This approach to preventive maintenance firstly wastes a lot of
resources in doing unnecessary tasks which will not improve equipment or system availability and
secondly it is potentially risk (Tsang,1995).Principal argument in favour of detailed and integrated

Carl Sandburg Effects
The Effects of Carl Sandburg s Poetry In the world there is hatred, crime, violence, racism, and other
bad things that makes up society. The people don t know how bad the reality it is until there is
somebody to go and show it to them. It often leads to depression, suicide and other horrible things that
we can t imagine. For one poet like Carl Sandburg to describe the bad side of the American life in his
poems makes us realize what we do to be human. In modern times we have problems that we have to
deal with every day. Carl Sandburg points out in his poems what the problems we face in our lives and
how we go through it. The readers should know when they read his poems and have those problems.
According to Hartland Thunberg, Penelope, Both men were optimists, but with a profound
understanding of the violent and dark side of American life. Taft, too, was a man of modesty, of
simplicity and of genuine interest in individual human beings. People have two types of characters
like the good and the bad. We have the bad one that goes and does the bad things we do to criticize
them and then the good one who that still makes them human. The problems we go through we can
relate in the stories that are in Sandburg poems. Sandburg gives the reader a visual on what the story
says, to give it a grasp. Carl Sandburg describes natural style in his poem that makes it for everyone
that can relate. People struggle in society by depression, war , and having racial issues that

The Roaring Twenties By F. Scott Fitzgerald
The Roaring Twenties were a time of leisure and parties. The media and events surrounding this time
period greatly impacted the carefree, extravagant lifestyle. This era was one of the most dramatic and
energetic times in American history. To many, the symbols of the roaring Twenties were F. Scott
Fitzgerald and his wife, due to their tales of the young and the wealthy (Hanson 96). The Roaring
Twenties influenced many literary works, throughout the 1920s such as F. Scott Fitzgerald s The Great
Gatsby and This Side of Paradise.
At the start of the 1920s, prohibition had just begun, banning the purchase, sale, and manufacture of
alcohol. This actually had adverse effects as people began to make their own alcohol and sell it
illegally (Hanson 96). World War I had also recently ended, and soldiers were coming home to a
recession in the U.S. The end of the war meant a drop in government spending and exports. Business
bankruptcies tripled between 1919 and 1920. Many businesses were forced to cut wages and lay off
workers (McDonnell 296). As the 1920 recession came to an end, Americans had more leisure time
and money to spare (353). By 1922 the economy had fully rebounded and there was even a shortage of
workers (319). World War I fueled the fire of American s suspicions of foreigners (McDonnell 296).
The Red Scare had Americans paralyzed by the fear of a possible communist infiltration (301). Along
with foreign intolerance, racial intolerance broke out due to wartime migration

Social Equality In America
Less than one century ago, American women had yet to gain the right to vote, and African Americans
still faced heavy oppression through segregation laws and violence. As someone born decades after
women s suffrage and the abolition of segregation laws, an America in which every citizen is not
given equal opportunity based on gender or race is difficult to fathom, but it is true that our country
has oppressed certain groups of people in the past. The United States has progressed immensely in
terms of social equality since the government s formation in 1789, but not without the resistance from
courageous leaders such as Susan B. Anthony, Martin Luther King, Jr., Rosa Parks, and all of the

Thoreau made the point that no man should ever have to resign his conscience to the legislation.
Everyone was given a mind with which to reason and make decisions about morality, and those who
find themselves morally at odds with legislation should peacefully resist it instead of following it
complacently. Martin Luther King, Jr. highlights that the horrific acts of Adolf Hitler were legal ; it
was the power of people who refused to be content that eventually prevented him from passing further
oppressive legislation. For this very reason, Americans should hold their elected officials accountable
to uphold the Constitution and to pay mind to morals when implementing laws. Recently, President
Donald Trump signed an executive order restricting citizens from seven Muslim majority countries
from entering the United States. Many American citizens disagreed with this executive order, citing it
as prejudiced and unconstitutional, and peaceful protests arose, prompting a federal judge to suspend
the travel restriction. Peaceful protests also took place in cities across the

Zoom Car Company Essay
Case Example D
The main legal issues that have come about from this case are very important for many reasons. Zoom
Car Company is being sued on part of Daniel Boone for them to pay for his medical expenses
resulting from being dragged from his car and being beaten. The reason behind this is his compass that
was installed in his car by Zoom Car Company was faulty which lead him in the wrong direction
where he got lost and ended up in a horrible situation. Daniel Boone is suing for his medical bills to be
paid by the company of the faulty feature the car offered when it was bought. Who should be
responsible for Daniel Boone s medical bills? As the plaintiff he argues that Zoom Car Company
should be responsible for his medical bills ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The defendant s argument is they shouldn t be responsible for Daniel Boone s incident because
Corrigan Rulers were the ones who manufactured the compass and they should be held responsible for
the cost of medical bills and for any other damages. Zoom Car Company believes it is a superseding
event, the defendant isn t liable for injuries caused by such events for which he or she is not
responsible (108). Which would mean the company can only be held responsible for the faulty
compass that was installed in the car not the actions that took place after the fact of where he ended
up. It is also possible that Daniel didn t know how to use the compass, which would result in him
being held accountable under these circumstances. Nothing is certain on who is responsible for the
compass to not work effectively. If there is sufficient proof of the compass not working when the car
was purchased it will put them at fault. But if the plaintiff, Daniel Boone, somehow broke the compass
after the purchase of the car then he could be held responsible for his actions and would therefore have
to pay for his medical bills. For a seller to be held strictly liable, the product it sells must reach the
consumer or user without substantial change in its condition (129). If the company, Corrigan Rulers,
can somehow prove that the compass was in perfect condition when delivered to Zoom Car Company
they will no longer be held responsible for the medical bills. If I was the judge on

Bob Marley Research Paper
Bob Marley is without a doubt one of the most inspirational songwriters the world has ever known.
Contrary to popular belief, most of Marley s writings were not ganja anthems, but hopeful songs about
redemption, social injustice, spiritual strength, and perseverance in the face of seemingly impossible
odds. Included here are my selections or Bob Marley s 10 most inspirational songs.
Number One: Zion Train ( Uprising ) 1980. Featured on Marley s 1981 album Uprising, every note of
this tune inspires. It is a song in which Marley s philosophic aphorisms ( Don t gain the world and lose
your soul / Wisdom is better than silver and gold ) are as impactful as the most simplistic, commonly
spoken adages (Oh, where there s a will / There s always ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is one of Marley s most brilliantly penned songs.Number Seven: Duppy Conqueror ( Burnin ) 1974.
While Get Up, Stand Up is the most obvious choice from this album, that song was written by Peter
Tosh. On Duppy Conqueror, Bob, Peter and Bunny go ghost busting ( duppy means evil spirit). An
early Lee Scratch Perry production, Duppy Conqueror is a classic tune about good over evil ( Don t
try to cut me off on this bridge now / I ve got to reach Mt. Zion (the highest region) / So if you a
bullbucka (bad spirit), let me tell you this / I m a duppy conqueror! ).Number Eight: Trenchtown Rock
( Live! ) 1975. Trenchtown Rock is quite possibly the greatest ghetto anthem ever penned. It is a song
in which Marley recasts the ghetto experience from one of shame to one of pride ( Trenchtown rock /
Don t turn your back / Trenchtown rock / I say give the slum a try / Trenchtown rock / Never let the
children cry / Trenchtown rock or you got to tell Jah, Jah why ).Number Nine: The Heathen ( Exodus )
1977. Yet another Marley tune pitting good against evil, The Heathen is a rousing call to arms for the
righteous to take up arms against the wicked ( Rise up fallen fighters / Rise and take your stance again

Examples Of Ratio Analysis Financial Analysis
FINANCIAL STATEMENT ANALYSIS RATIO ANALYSIS Ratio Analysis is a type of Financial
Statement Analysis that is utilized to achieve a quick indication of a firm s financial performance in
numerous key regions. Financial ratios aid in deciding the connection between two variables in the
financial statements. The data necessary for the computation of the ratios is supplied by the financial
statements of the firm. Areas where performance has improved or deteriorated over time can be
recognized this way. Ratios are utilized methodically to deduce the strengths and weaknesses of a firm
and also its historical performance and current financial conditions. CURRENT RATIO: A surplus of

Lower ratios imply that the firm isn t utilizing its assets proficiently and most likely has management
problems. The analysis shows that AnandRathi s ability to generate sales from its assets has been
declining over the years. It was highest in 2009 10 indicating that 0.67 paise was generated with every
rupee of asset. It declined to 0.38 times in 2013 2014. RETURN ON CAPITAL EMPLOYED: ROCE
is a long term profitability ratio which measures the competence with which a firm s capital is used.
The ratio measures the firm s efficiency at assigning its resources to produce the maximum return.
Thus ROCE shows the relationship between invested capital and return. It can be used to depict how
much a business is gaining for its assets, or how much it is losing for its liabilities. Return on Capital
Employed = Earnings Before Interest and Tax Capital Employed Interpretation: A higher ROCE is
favorable as it denotes more efficient use of capital. It implies that the profit generated from each
rupee of capital employed is more when the ratio is higher. The ratio was highest in 2009 10 compared
to the other four years. In 2012 13 it increased to 11.44% compared to 10.47% in the preceding year. It
was the least in 2013 14 i.e. 9.46%. This shows that the company s ability to generate revenue from its

Essay on Case East Penn Bank
Activity Based Costing in the
Service Sector:
The East Penn Bank
ABSTRACT: This case illustrates why a major segment of the service sector banks needs accurate
cost information to make strategic decisions, and how more refined accounting systems help fulfill
this need.
East Penn Bank is a hypothetical bank that has suffered falling profits despite a shift in customer base
toward retail customers, which the current information system reports are more profitable than
business customers. Following a stepby step approach, you will develop the Bank s average cost of
serving a retail customer account and a business customer account, under (1) the Bank s traditional
single allocation base system, and (2) a (pilot test) activity based costing ... Show more content on

The bank allocates these indirect costs to either the retail customer line or the business customer line,
based on the total dollar value of checks processed (which is readily available because each branch
must provide the dollar values of daily transactions for internal control). For the current period East
Penn processed a total of
$95 million in checks, of which $9.5 million was written by retail customers, and
$85.5 million was written by business customers. This costing approach was fairly typical of banks
and other financial institutions at the time East Penn developed its cost system.
In college, Erik learned about an alternative costing approach called activitybased costing (ABC).
However, the examples he remembered involved manufacturing firms. He wondered whether East
Penn could develop an ABC system, with the business account customer line and the retail account
customer line as the two primary cost objects. Erik approached Rob Garrison with this suggestion.
Rob was skeptical, exclaiming, Our profits are going down the tubes and you want me to spend money
developing a new accounting system? However, Erik persisted, and Rob eventually authorized a pilot
ABC study using three local branches of the bank.
The ABC implementation team included Erik, the managers of each of the three bank branches, a bank
teller, and a representative from the customer

Code Talker Leadership
Bravery is an island in on ocean of fear. To be brave, is not to be fearless; Instead it is to be fearful, yet
remain unmoved by that fear. This applies to the novel Code Talker by Joseph Bruchac. This is
because of how the main character Kii Yazhi demonstrates leadership in the novel. Kii is a Navajo
learning the American way at school soon to find out that he wants to become a Marine. Kii goes from
going to boarding school to learning codes to communicate while being a marine. Kii becomes a
marine to fight for his country, beliefs, and family. Kii Yazhi demonstrates leadership characteristics

so when Ned Begay turned 16 his parents gave their blessing and went with him to get signed up. This
has had a positive effect, because Ned Begay got to follow his dreams, protect his country, defend his
family, and make his beliefs stand out. The second leadership characteristic he has shown is
inspiration. Ned Begay inspired people because of how he puts others before himself. While in the
foxhole he dug up the Japanese were executing their well thought out plan next to him was another
marine about twice the size of Ned who had a wounded arm. Even though Ned Begay s fingernails

Effects Of Artificial Lighting On Sea Turtle Populations
Barbara Garrow
Effects of Artificial Lighting on Sea Turtle Populations
Abstract
Significant numbers of sea turtles from around the world nest on Florida beaches, although, the human
population of Florida happens to be extremely concentrated around coastal areas as well. The
development of coasts brings an increase in artificial light, which can be quite the problem for nesting
sea turtles. The development and increase in artificial light has contributed greatly to the decline of
populations in recent years (Conserve Sea Turtles). Artificial lighting has a detrimental effect on sea
turtle reproduction in many different ways. For instance, lighting can cause the turtles to avoid nesting
in the area because they consider it bad habitat. Even if they decide to nest there, there is still the
chance that their nests may potentially fail (Salmon 2003). Nestlings will often deter their emergence
from the nest in the presence of artificial lighting (Salmon). If the nestlings hatch, they begin the
process of locating the ocean from the nest, called seafinding . This task is accomplished mostly
visually. An effect called hatchling disorientation occurs when hatchlings become disoriented and
wander the opposite direction and inland, which then often leads to them to die of dehydration or
predation (Witherington 2003). According to scientists, hatchlings have an innate instinct that leads
them in the brightest direction , which is usually moon light creating light by

Dinosaur Extinction Research
Intro to question:
Their extinction occurred at the end of the Cretaceous period and is noted as one of the largest mass
extinctions in Earth s history and is referred to as the K T (Cretaceous Tertiary) extinction but is now
called the Cretaceous Paleogene (K Pg) event by many researchers. So from this information a
question has been derived, How effectively does the asteroid theory explain the extinction of
dinosaurs compared to other theories? A wide variety of extinction theories have been suggested and
some of the following examples have been evidentially thought wrong by many. Some examples of
the extinction theories are the toxic volcanic gasses and dust (Volcanism), asteroid impact on earth and
climate change. Some scientists have suggested ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the early to mid stages of the Cretaceous period the worlds temperatures became hotter by about
10°, some scientists have linked this to the Asteroid Impact theory. Others linked it to the volcanic
activity that is known today as India and Pakistan. The late Cretaceous period was a great time of
change, continents were splitting and volcanoes were spitting lots of gas and ash into the atmosphere
greatly altering climate. Whether it be gradual or sudden changes in climate dinosaurs habitats and
environment would have been affected making it harder for them to adapt. A sudden change may have
triggered a change in the weather thus affecting food sources. Gradual changes may have slowly
changed environments like cool wet areas into dry areas affecting life there in a big way.
Prove theories?/evidence: 300
A team led by the Nobel Laureate Luis Alvarez demonstrated that a large bolide (generic term for
meteor, comet or asteroid) had collided with Earth close to or at the end of the Cretaceous extinction
event roughly 65 million years ago. Evidence for this is the concentration of a rare Earth element
Iridium in the sediments of areas in Italy. Iridium is rare as it is most commonly found on bolides that
have come in contact with Earth as opposed to in the Earth.

How Did Galileo Galilei A Renaissance Change Maker
Galileo Galilei was an astronomer, physicists and mathematician who made great discoveries for
science. Today I will be walking you through the life of Galileo and how he was a Renaissance change
maker. Galileo Galilei had a great impact during the Renaissance, in the fields of physics and
astronomy, by applying the methods of hypothesizing, experimenting and his ability to stand up for
what he believed in. Galileo was a child of Vincenzo Galilei, a well educated musician and scholar
who made crucial theories and practice in the music field. In his mid teens, Galileo went to monastery
school, then later went to study medicine at the University of Pisa in 1581. When studying, Galileo
was distracted by his interest in Mathematics, a profession that his father disagreed with. Soon after,
Galileo left university without a degree but started tutoring mathematics to people. In this period of

United States And The Refugees Of Afghanistan

Liberia, and Sudan to name a few, home had meant small wooden shacks and dirt roads; until civil

of both the refugees and the townspeople as they adapt to the changes in Clarkston. In particular, St.

You can greatly increase creativity and problem solving with the use of cross functional teams because
of their composition. Members of cross functional teams come with a diversity of experience,
expertise, and knowledge. This diversity can help broaden perspectives and create synergy, where
interaction of the members create a greater effect than the sum effects of each member acting alone,
leading to a high level of creativity.
Cross functional teams are not without disadvantages. The team can take significantly longer to
develop cohesion because members come from different experiences and backgrounds. Moreover, a
team leader must take care managing team relationships carefully because there may be a high level of
conflict in these teams due to unit rivalry, egos, and possible conflict between the interests of the
various parts of the organization represented by team

Robert Bolt s A Man For All Seasons Essay
Robert Bolt s A Man For All Seasons
In the play, written by Robert Bolt, A man for all seasons the
Common Man is a very important character and also a very important part of the play, not in the plot
but in the way the play has been presented, he is both a narrator and a role player who makes the play
more interesting and separates it from reality. The Common Man also introduces some of the ideas
from Bertolt Brecht s work. The idea of the Common Man is a rare and rather unusual one. Robert
Bolt used him intentionally to be like no other character in his play.
One of the distinctive functions of the Common Man is obvious from his name. The word, common
meaning, common to us all. Everybody in the audience should be ... Show more content on

characters with him.
We see that the Common Man has an intention to stay well out of trouble, to save his own skin. Again,
he communicates this within his roles. An example is the Jailer, who refuses to let More s family stay
any longer. Although we can see he wants to, he sticks to his orders to prevent any trouble for himself.
The Common Man tries to save himself again as the Foreman of the jury, who can see it s obvious
More should be let go innocent but doesn t want to get on the wrong side of the King by displeasing

The importance of The Common Man is the way he is able to be both inside and outside of the play,
he can also bridge a gap between the play and the audience and we see him as an informer. When the
audience needed to know of Wolsey s death, the Common Man throws the Cardinal s red robe and hat
to the floor, indicating his death. Robert Bolt created him as a use of alienation, the way in which the
audience are deliberately kept separate from the play to remind

Reflective Letter To A Writing Course
Reflective Letter
In many ways writing is the act of saying I, of imposing oneself upon other people, of saying listen to
me, see it my way, change your mind (Didion, 1976). WRI 102 was specifically about proving your
point of view through the medium of writing. It was packed with critical writing and research skills
that were developed throughout the semester. Moreover, this course helped me develop an
understanding of the audience; I grew as a critical thinker and learnt the importance of warrants in an
argumentative essay. Writing always serves a purpose. It s meant to be given to an audience. In
university, this audience is usually a teacher, but out in the real world the audience might be anyone
from boss to followers on a blog. Therefore, it is important to know to how to address the general
audience through writing. I wrote mainly about design and architecture, which might not be easy to
understand for people from other arenas. However, this course taught me to incorporate definitions
and explanations that might be helpful to make my essay comprehensible to the general audience. For
instance, in the Compact City essay, I included a background paragraph in order to explain the ...

of critique is to force the writer to take an objective look at what has been written, evaluate its
suitability, tighten the work where needed, then let the words stand on their own. I evaluated the essay
as a reader and hence it made me aware of what I should or should not include in my essay; what my
readers think when they read my argument. For instance, when I read the article, Imam in America, it
was filled with hasty generalizations and red herrings; this made me question the credibility of the
author. I, thus made sure that in my future essay I never made the same mistake as the author of that

Reflection Of A Interview With The Algebra Interview...
For the student interview, I interviewed a 9th grade boy and used the Algebra Interview questions.
When we started the interview the boy was very apprehensive. I assured him it was not a test, and not
much writing was required. He slowly started to relax. I read the first question (1a) out loud and had
barely finished when he gave me the answer. His mental math was in high gear despite his initial
apprehension. I proceeded to the next question (1b) with the same result. He provided an answer
quickly to this question as well. I was beginning to wonder if this was going to be too easy for him, so
I asked him to write down and explain his thinking so I could understand how he got the answers. For
number (1a), he explained that he multiplied 6 by 3 because Alice ate 6 ounces of cake and she grew 3
feet for each ounce of cake that she ate. He then added the product of 36 to her original height of 4 and
came up with the answer of 40 feet. For (1b), he modeled a different approach where he started with
16 feet and subtracted 4 increments of 3 until he arrived at Alice s original height of 4 feet. He told me
that he knew that he needed to get to the base height, and that is why he used subtraction. He did it in
increments of 3 as he knew that Alice grew 3 feet/ounce of cake. For question (2) he again used
mental math and came to the conclusion that it was 4 feet/ounce of water. His rationale was the same
as for (1b), to get back down to the base height. At this point, it

The Olympics Of The 1936 Olympic Games
The 1936 Olympic games in Berlin came as a bolt from the blue; the whole world was caught
unaware, as everyone expected the games to be a huge catastrophe. Despite the fact that Germany was
in great amount of debt after world war one, the Nazis took advantage of the Olympics to promote a
new, strong, and united Germany. But behind closed doors, Germany was establishing racist policies
as well as flourishing its militarism. It s apparent that, Adolf Hitler Nazi dictatorship obscured its
discriminatory, militaristic character while hosting the 1936 Olympics; furthermore, in preparation for
the Olympics, the Nazis made elaborate planning to advance the Nazi cause inside and outside of

The International Olympic Committee decision to present Germany the
games was before Germany s major turning point in politics. In 1933 Germany experienced a change
of political leadership; democracy was eradicated, and totalitarianism took its place. Nazi party leader
Adolf Hitler became Chancellor of Germany and quickly claimed all aspects of German life. At first,
Hitler was not passionate about hosting the Olympics until the propaganda minister convinced Hitler
that the success of German athletes in the games would reveal Germans (Aryans) dominance to the
world. He argued that spectacular Nazi Games would show to the world that Germans are sports
enthusiasts capable of staging a magnificent athletic festival. Beside visitors would go home to their
countries believing they had nothing to fear from Nazi Germany. Therefore, Hitler emphasized on
recruiting German athletes and extending sports facilities for Olympics competitions. Ultimately the
Nazi party burned the candle at both ends to ensure successful games. In April 1933, a new racist
policy was established: Jewish or part Jewish and Romani athletes were thoroughly disbarred from
German sport facilities and associations. Numerous regulations and rules were created by the Nazis to
shut out Jews from all aspects of German society. Some of the Jews eliminated from the Olympic

Social Inequality In The Bell Curve
Many scholars believe that social inequality is unavoidable: some people are born to be lazy and some
are lack of intelligence, so they would have a lower social class because of their own ability. Recently
the one who raise this argument is the book The Bell Curve: Intelligence and Class Structure in
American Life . It was published by Richard Herrnstein and Charles Murray in 1994, and the book
explores the relationship between intelligence and social structure, and the problem of social
inequality. The authors point out the importance of a person s intelligence in his or her life results: the
superstructure of the United States is made up of high level intellectuals, which they mostly having a

In the author s study, a person s scores on various tests reflect their social achievements in the future.
If they scores higher, mostly they will have a higher social class inside the society. But if they scores
lower, mostly they will have a lower social class. The author identified that intelligence is so
important to a person s life, and the level of intelligence is based on the assumption that IQ is affected
by genetic inheritance , moreover the author believes that IQ cannot be increased through external
help, including education , so the author argue that social inequality is destined. Since social
inequality is destined to be natural and unavoidable, and a person s social achievement is closely
related to IQ, even if the government devotes a great deal of money to implement programs to educate
the poor, it is futile because the low intelligences level makes them difficult to succeed, but at the

Why Does Rosalind s Use Of Disguise
Role playing in Shakespeare s As You Like It and Measure for Measure is an important aspect that
extends from actors playing a character to that character playing another character as the same initial
character being played. Rosalind, in As You Like It, is a heroin that disguises herself as the male
Ganymede. Duke Vincentio disguises himself as Friar Peter in Measure for Measure. The use of these
main characters in disguise drives the plot forward in ways that keep the audience entranced and
engaged in the element of disguise. Rosalind and Duke Vincentio, in disguise, create suspense when
they are nearly discovered by the wit of other characters or by being foolish and abusing their

Lucio is the character that came the closest to knowing that the Friar was the Duke in disguise but the
text never tells if he really knew or not. Lucio provoked the Duke without mercy. In act 3, scene 1,
Lucio continuously insults the Duke while in conversation with him. He says that the Duke has used
vices such as prostitutes and drink. He claims that he knows and loves and is well known to the Duke
(3.1.387). All the while, the Duke remains in disguise as the Friar but he does become angry and
frustrated with Lucio s false words. Because he is unable to act how he would if he were in his ruling
position, he threatens to report Lucio to the Duke for saying these slanderous things (3.1.397). In the
final act, it is Lucio who discovers that the friar is the Duke by unveiling him. Whether Lucio is
surprised by this discovery is unknown and left, again, to the interpretation of the director. In these
moments when Rosalind s and the Duke s ability to stay in disguise were being tested, they both felt

Global Automotive Industry- Porter s 5 Forces
Porter s Five Forces Analysis
Michael Porter identified five forces that influence an industry. These forces are: (1) degree of rivalry;
(2) threat of substitutes; (3) barriers to entry; (4) buyer power; and (5) supplier power. For more on
this framework proposed by Porter, please see Appendix C. Like other industries operating under free
market, capitalistic systems, viewing the automotive industry through the lens of Porter s Five Forces
can be helpful in understanding the forces at play.
Degree of Rivalry
Despite the high concentration ratios seen in the U.S. market, which typically signify that a lesser
degree of competition is seen in the industry, rivalry in the U.S. and the global automotive industry is

The switching costs associated with using a different mode of transportation, such as train, may be
high in terms of personal time (i.e., independence), convenience, and utility (e.g., luggage capacity),
but not necessarily monetarily (e.g., round trip train fare on MARTA would most likely be less
expensive than the cost of fuel consumed on a similar round trip, daily parking, car insurance, and
maintenance).
The exception to this statement occurs in the global urban areas with high population densities. In
these areas, the substitutes available (e.g., walking, mass transit, bicycles, etc.) can be less costly than
automobiles and thus alternative modes of transportation are often preferred.
Also, there are inherent underlying social and cultural attitudes that keep people from owning
automobiles in some parts of the world. Many nations are not as spread out or as mobile as the U.S.;
they are constrained either by geography, race, class, or religion and the need for personal
transportation is not as great, yet. The American dream of a car [or two] in every garage is not what
the rest of the world currently wants or needs. However, the marketing arms of the global automotive
manufacturers are certainly working very hard to change this paradigm, and with unprecedented
production volumes world wide, all signs indicate that they are succeeding. Most with the ability and

When Making Public Policy Decisions
1. When making public policy decisions, policy makers must face a world with imperfect information
and a finite amount of resources. Both of these realities put limitations on how effectively a
policymaker can make people s lives better off. Obviously, it is impossible for anyone to perfectly
predict how a certain policy will play out when it is enacted. This includes policymakers, who despite
their noble goals of increasing the well being of society, can only make an educated guess about the
effects a policy will have. Factors such as the fickleness of human nature or hidden information
creates uncertainties that are hard to address when making policy. For example, in 1929 the causes of

This has caused many people to call into question the workings of capitalism as it operates in the
United States. By letting markets produce this outcome, it has become clear that the efficiency gained
from this system is creating an equal loss in equality. Whether there exists a natural tradeoff between
efficiency and equality or their inverse relationship is a product of our political system does not
change the fact that the tradeoff exists in our current society and is affecting policy decisions.
Policymakers who are against increasing equity see it leading to a moral hazard. By creating a safety
net through redistribution, they believe it will eliminate the incentive for people to work hard and
contribute to society. Government on the other hand would have to increase their work effort in order
to create the bureaucracy responsible for ensuring that equality is maintained. If government is using
up their resources and energy to achieve this goal, they are not only decreasing efficiency but also
incurring an opportunity loss by not using those resources for other purposes that could benefit society
in other ways. The way the United States government has handled the equality efficiency tradeoff
shows that for the most part, they value efficiency more. As long as this tradeoff exists in our system,
or even just the belief that it exists, the lower portions of society will have little hope to

The Environmental Effects Of Plastic Shopping Bags
Originally patented in 1965, the single use plastic shopping bag has since become ubiquitous in
America and around the world. Plastic bags were first introduced in grocery stores in 1977, and by the
early 2000s they constituted 80% of the market for shopping bags (Laskow). These bags caught on
because they were stronger, lighter, waterproof, and many people found them easier to carry than
paper. Most importantly though, they were cheaper, meaning retail stores had strong incentives to
make them available to customers and promote their use (Petru). In other words, plastic bags became
popular, and remain so today, because they are convenient. However, this convenience does not take
into account the environmental effects associated with their production, distribution, and disposal.
Once these aspects of their use are considered, it is clear that the convenience of plastic shopping bags
do not justify the harms to the ecosystem caused by their existence.
Plastic bags are usually made out of high density polyethylene (HDPE), a strong, durable plastic made
from ethylene monomers (Clark). 134 million metric tons of ethylene are produced each year as of
2014, with 28% of that production going towards the manufacture of HDPE (Lazonby, Ethene ).
Ethylene is produced from oil and natural gas, and in the process has significant environmental
consequences. According to a 2013 study by Ghanta, Fahey, and Subramaniam published in the
journal Applied Petrochemical Research, For ethylene produced from naphtha and ethane [the two
main sources of ethylene], the energy expended during the extraction and ocean based transportation
of fossil fuel sources (crude oil and natural gas) contributes significantly to adverse environmental
impacts such as GHG [greenhouse gas] emissions, acidification, and eco toxicity. To make ethylene,
fossil fuels must be extracted, transported, and processed (Lazonby, Ethene ). Then the ethylene must
be processed to make HDPE (Lazonby, Poly(Ethene) ). HDPE, in the form of plastic pellets, is then
transported to the plastic bag manufacturer. The manufacturing process of Novolex, a maker of plastic
packaging products that sells bags under the brand name Hilex Poly ( Company Overview ), is

SSG Arroa s squad moved cautiously down the path that the Sergeant had marked to the main gate at
Fort Indiantown Gap. The rest of the first platoon had held back as well as the company to provide
cover for the advancing squad. SSG Arroa had cleared about a hundred yards past the main gain
without any problems. They encountered no resistance, but several booby traps, which they disabled.
Their orders were that once they were able to breach the main gate, they were to begin to remove the
barricades, which consisted of everything but the kitchen sink, several cars that had been pushed into
the front of the gate, chairs, benches, large rocks, mounds of dirt, and a couple of desks. SSG Arroa
sent Corporal Reyes to his Platoon Sergeant and told him to send more men to help clear the
barricade. There was no way he could provide security for him and his men as well as move
everything out of the way. SFC Dittmyer was the Platoon Sergeant; the man was not a great thinker

Stereotypes and Stereotyping
A Stereotypical Female in I m Your Horse in the Night
Luisa Valenzuela s short story titled I m Your Horse in the Night is a thought provoking piece of
literature. The story is written in such a way that the reader must interpret what is meant by what is
being said. Although it is easy to go into depth when describing the elements of this piece, the
storyline is rather simple. The story contains an assortment of characters; with those characters being
Chiquita, Beto, Andres, and several policemen.
The time and location are unknown. The telephone tells us that the time period is of somewhat modern
times, and the Spanish ethnicity would most likely relate to the setting being that of a Spanish

The man in which Chiquita calls Beto would also be considered a major character. Even though the
man is never actually present in the story physically, we hear about him extensively through the
thoughts and words of Chiquita. The minor character roles would fall upon Andres, and the police
officers. Andres might not even qualify as being a valid character, considering that Chiquita was not
even sure whether it was him or not on the telephone that morning. The police men are a somewhat
important factor to this story, but they are not described as round characters and therefore show no
verisimilitude.
The title of the story, I m Your Horse in the Night, is relating to a line on the record which Beto
brought with him in Chiquita s dream. She tells Beto that she will be his horse in the night, meaning
that she will always be there for him.
While reading this story, it helps to apply the elements of new criticism.
One opposition that was quite distinct, was the fact that Chiquita is in love with this man who is never
there for her. She fantasizes about him, making it seem as though he would be an ideal mate, when he
obviously is not. Chiquita appears to be living off on her own. It seems as though she is almost
isolating herself from the rest of the world. The fact that she sees this wretched man as the one she
loves, would be a symbol of low self esteem. Perhaps he is the first

Americans traveled 3.2 trillion passenger kilometers (2 trillion passenger miles) by car, truck, bus, and
public transit, and 9.8 billion passenger kilometers (6.1 billion passenger miles) on Amtrak. As

Because land is costly and scarce, adding more highway lanes and building new airports in or near our
larger cities is becoming increasingly difficult. For example, adding new highway capacity in urban
areas typically costs more than $15 million per land mile, and a new Denver airport is estimated to
cost $3 to 4 billion.
Current transportation technologies are petroleum dependent, accounting for 64 percent of total
petroleum use. Without transportation alternatives that reduce petroleum dependency, transportation
related petroleum use is expected to remain high 36 percent above our own US petroleum production,
so we will have to get the oil from other countries which will raise taxes on oil imports, possibly
creating national security problems.
High speed ground transportation systems are capable of approaching the speed of airplane flight
while offering some of the flexibility of the automobile, such systems can provide added capacity in
dense corridors around the world. Because of its very high speed, it will be more likely to attract
medium distance air travelers and highway drivers than high speed rail.

My Principles Of Professional Ethics
In life we adhere to certain standards established by society and follow a fixed set of principles.
However, I often find myself questioning what are principles and do I really live my life by these
principles. Professional Ethics as new as it is has encouraged three things for me self awareness,
questioning my actions and reactions to situations and open mindedness. The content taught in class
thus far has really started a chain of thoughts for me personally, in the past I had never given much
thought to what my principles are and how my principles influence me. Principles in its purest form is
simply a combination of values, morals and ethics. These are all attitudes by which one may conduct
himself/herself, these may be considered as guiding ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hence, each person needs to make a conscious decision to live in accordance with these, in absence of
such a decision a person by default leads a disharmonious life. However, is anyone truly a person of
principle ? My answer is no. Returning back to The moral competency test(MCI) I completed in week
one was a defining moment for me because the results forced me to recognize certain behavioural
patterns I had fallen into over the years. My weaknesses that were reveal, genuinely took me by
surprise as I was not aware of most of them prior to taking the test. How does a person like me who
has considered themselves to be of high moral and high principles go from here? It was hard at first
for me to not sit and dwell on my shortcomings and think that I was a bad person . In the past three
weeks I have come to the conclusion that the areas where I experienced inadequacies did not equate to
me being a bad person. Instead it was the result of falling into the trap of societal expectancy.
Everyone wants to see the world in a certain order and when you find that it is not so, you rationalize
by thinking that other people do not have the same principles you do and somehow that makes you a
lesser being. The reality of the matter is that different people have different principles.
I was brought up in a fairly religious family and had what was considered a normal childhood. When I
was young,

Empathy In Homeless In Black Men And Public Space
In Homeless , Quindlen shows empathy toward homeless people. For example, throughout the story,
Quindlen brings forth points pertaining to how having a home is everything (193). Homeless people
don t experience little things that come with having a home such as having walls and painting them a
color of their own choosing (193). On the other hand, in Black Men Public Space , Staples makes the
reader empathize with him and blacks in general and makes the reader see his perspective. Staples
emphasizes his concern for being considered a threat in public spaces through the use of explicit
language. Staples starts off by saying, My first victim was a woman (197). Using the word victim , he
expresses explicit language and stresses his point of view. Additionally, using the word victim
provides the reader with a different perspective on how the person who is being perceived as being a
threat feels.
The outdoors, which is a public space, is not comforting. As Quindlen says, Home is where the heart
is ; it is a place of certainty, stability, predictability, [and] privacy (193). Home is a private space
surrounded by walls, making people who reside there feel secure. In contrast to Staples, Quindlen uses
implicit language because it is implied that on the other hand, living in a public space can be
threatening because certain public spaces are considered unsafe. Black people in the streets can be
perceived as being one of the many threats, like Staples was. Ironically,

Why Did The War Of 1812 Occur
The War of 1812 was a war that was fought between the U.S. and Britain from June 1812 to January
1815. There are several reasons why the War of 1812 occurred. The main reason was from the
restrictions Britain had on American Shipping. The U.S. had tried to remain neutral between France
and Great Britain. Those countries went to war and an American ship, Chesapeake, was fired upon by
the British in 1807. Britain ordered trade restrictions for the U.S., prohibiting them from trade with
France or its allies. France also wanted to limit trade with Britain. The U.S. responded with the
Embargo Act of 1807, which stopped trading with all countries. There were also rumors that the
British were making an ally with the Native Americans. Britain also ... Show more content on

did much better in 1813. The American Navy won the Battle of Put in Bay at Lake Erie in September
1813. This victory denied the British control over the Great Lakes. The U.S. then won a battle in the
banks of Thames River in South Ontario. This victory helped break the resistance from the Native
Americans when Tecumseh, the most visionary Indian warrior, was killed. In 1814, Britain forced
Napoleon to give up and this allowed Britain to focus all of their attention on the war with the U.S.
Britain post two major offensives in 1814. This was a major blow to the U.S. because the Treasury
was nearly bankrupt. Britain occupied and torched Washington, DC. In August 1814, but this only
strengthened the resistance from America. When Britain failed to follow up their attack on Baltimore,
American defenses held strong, thus prompting Francis Scott Key to write The Star Spangled Banner.
After America won the Battle of Plattsburgh in 1814, the tide has turned. Britain started to withdraw
and scaled back it demands. Britain was ready to restore profitable trade with American and reduce its
high debt from the war. The Treaty of Ghent was signed on December 24, 1814, and the war was over.
There was not any territory the changed hands. Nothing was addressed about the impressments of
rights of neutrals. Although this treaty has just been signed, The British had sent more troops to New
Orleans. This showed America that they were not entirely ready to have peace. The Battle of New

Comparing College Football Versus Professional Football
Football is the most popular sport in the United States. The two types of football people watch the
most is college football and professional football. Everyone has their own opinion on which they
prefer. I personally think that because of that with the NFL on center stage, we lose sight of the true
spirit of football. Football is about a team s love and dedication for the game, not some player that s
getting payed a million dollars to throw and run the ball because he has a Bugatti payment to make.
An average NFL player gets paid $1.9 million dollars a year, according to Forbes . Ben Roethlisberger,
QB for the Pittsburgh Steelers, made $48.9 million dollars between June 2014 and June 2015. The true
spirit of football is found where there isn t ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The college fans have more spirit toward their teams, because they either went to the college or they
live in the colleges area a while. On the other hand, NFL fans are usually bandwagoners who only like
a team if their winning and if they re not, no one watches them. According to ESPN, the Indianapolis
Colts, who had a 2 14 record in 2011, had one of the lowest game attendances in the NFL. A year later
the Colts went 11 5 and their attendance rose to one of the highest. This shows how NFL fans only
watch teams if their winning. College football fans are different. They don t care if their team is losing
or not, because they support them either way. In 2013, the Michigan Wolverines were in a losing
season when heading into their game against Notre Dame. The attendance for that game was 115,000
and broke the record for highest attendance ever! Michigan has had 100,000 fans at their games
consistently for over 15 years whether they were winning or

How Did The Black Church Influence The Civil Rights Movement
The black church did several things for the boycott. Some of those things are it put Martin Luther
King in the spot light of the civil rights movement. The church also help educate the black people on
their own situation. Some that attended the meetings in the black church were able to shed the fear
they had held for a long period of time.
Martin Luther King Jr. was not well known at the time of the boycott. He is only 26 years old and new
the area. He was asked by the other reverends to lead the boycott. He actually wasn t sure if he should
because he was new to the area, but that was one of the reasons the other Black reverends wanted to
him to lead it.
Another reason the church was such an influence on the boycott was because black people

Accounts of Miracles and Their Support of Belief in God Essay
Accounts of Miracles and Their Support of Belief in God The definition of a miracle is a violation of
the laws of nature , it is an exception that is beyond all naturalistic explanations, meaning they must be
explained supernaturally. So do accounts of miracles support the belief in God? Firstly, one must
decided whether there is sufficient evidence to prove the existence of miracles, something that people
have disagreed about a lot.
A McKinnon says that natural laws are just descriptions of the actual course of events so to say that a
natural law has been violated would be a contradiction, these events merely show that our natural laws

Hume s argument is not a very strong one, as we need an argument independent of what we are trying
to prove.
Hume also argues that all recorded miracles made by various religions contradict each other, therefore
cancel each other out, however Hume is confusing the interpretation of the miracle with whether or
not the miracle actually exists. Different religions have interpreted events differently, but these
interpretations are not the same as the event, all Hume s argument is succeeding in doing is cancelling
out the interpretation, not whether or not miracles do in fact exist.
A. Flew says that we must go back to the definition of a miracle, and there we shall find that there is
something wrong; the definition is incomplete. The definition states that a miracle is something that is
beyond naturalistic explanation. However, Flew argues that one never has the ability to state whether
or not something will permanently be beyond naturalistic explanation, we do not know what we may
discover in the future, with our limited knowledge we cannot be sure that something may not be
naturalistically explained in the future. Therefore, Flew says that one can never

Applied Theatre Analysis
Applied theatre refers to the practice of theatre and drama in a non traditional setting. It focusses on
social and cultural issues including health and social welfare, but is also used as a rehabilitator, team
building in a corporate setting and most importantly education. Applied theatre takes many different
forms, is used in many different settings and can focus on a diverse range of issues. There are many
applied theatre companies both in Australia and internationally; examples include: Geese Theatre
Company, Shakespeare Behind Bars, Big hART, Western Edge Youth Arts, Theatre for Living and
Milk Crate Theatre. These companies use Prison Theatre, Community Based Theatre and Theatre of

The performers and participants are usually under 26 and live in the west [of Victoria, Australia] or
beyond. Western Edge Youth Arts has a vison for young people from all different cultural backgrounss
to find their own voice and become future leaders. WEYA takes two approaches to this; WEYA
Community creates contemporary performance that blends complex subjects with high artistry,
collaborating with young people through social and community networks and WEYA Education
teaches over 600 students a year in performance, film, creative writing and research. Running in ten
western suburb schools, the program can change young people s experiences in the classroom and
wider community. Western Edge Youth Arts is young people s stories, told by young people, for young
people. This creates a positive change within themselves, and allows them to expresss and share their
opinions and stories with a creative outlet. An example of this was when WEYA worked wuth The
Flemington Theatre Group. Western Edge s work with communities in Flemington began in 2004.
New migrants and refugees were living in this suburb in Melbourne s inner west, many in the
Flemington Flats a housing commission project (Western Edge Youth Arts, 2015). A high quanitity of
the population were under 25 and the relationship between police and people was often tense. The

pizza was beautifully cooked on a crispy crust that didn t sag in the middle when he picked it up. The
most memorable dish was Vince s gnocchi; a plate full of light as air, tiny pillows of fresh potato

anything so divine. It was delicious. The men savored their well deserved, exquisite dinner and wine
engaged in happy conversation about the day s events. Stan was relieved to be away from the sadness

keyring from his pocket and dangled them within my reach. Stan took a picture of Vince holding one

those who wait, waiting is a life time. Isn t that how the saying goes? It was going to be a brutal, long
summer waiting for September to when we would return to Morcella together for the actual moving
in. I spent a big part of every day focused on what I wanted to bring from California, what I wanted to
do first after we arrived and I was constantly thinking about how I wanted each room to look. As I
poured my energy into our Italian dream, my heart was full. I wondered if the clothes washer was the
kind that dried clothes after the washing cycle. I read about such machines and decided to send an e

The client likely believes that if she does not present severely, then she will be dismissed and not get the help she desires. 2. The client has a tendency to exaggerate, overreact, and/or be traumatized. This cognitive style may be due to some personality disorders as well as depression. There is likely not any benefit to the client, unless she is merely seeking attention. 3. Additionally, without interview data, most psychological assessments are virtually meaningless. 2. Psychological Tests/Assessments: These measures typically identify a wide range of explicit information about the client, such as attitudes, opinions, beliefs, and knowledge/facts. They also help evaluate the client s level of functioning in comparison to the norm group. This is particularly important in informing the diagnosis and treatment of the client. 3. Informant Reports: This involves interviewing people who know the client, such as family members, friends, and teachers. These reports can be helpful because they can provide different perspectives of the client. They may also inform the clinician if the client s behaviors generalize across settings. 4. Records: By obtaining client records, whether previous mental health records, medical records, legal records, or school records, the clinician may find important information that the client did not report. Overall, incorporating several different sources of information allows for a more comprehensive understanding of the client, which leads to more accurate and effective diagnosis and treatment. An empirically grounded approach uses the method of contrasted groups in order to create a measure that differentiates between groups. • 3. Coca Col Transparency, The Formation Of Sustainability... Coca Cola CSR Accountability Due to the vastly growing demand for organizational transparency, the formation of sustainability indices has assisted prospective investors by serving as educational tools and allowing them to confidently engage with companies who create a positive social and environmental impact. These indices, such as the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI), evaluate and measure some of the world s most profitable companies based on criteria such as economic, social, and environmental efforts (ESG) (S P Dow Jones Indices, 2015). Additionally, the Global 100 is comprised of organizations who generate a minimum of two billion U.S. dollars per year and have been screened in four areas, including sustainability disclosure, F score (financial), product category, and sanctions (Corporate Knights, 2015b). Consequently, Coca Cola has been able to secure a spot on at least one index in the past two years due to their excellence in the criteria mentioned above. While these indices provide an investor with an objective evaluation of a firm, an examination into company s annual sustainability report can offer in depth look into their internal competencies as it relates to their specific sustainability goals and current progress. Therefore, after a thorough analysis and comparison of Coca Cola s Sustainability Report (2015) and the methodology for both indices, many similarities and differences are depicted that highlight both the strengths and limitations of all three ... With the help of suppliers and equipment vendors, purchasing department can place orders in the form of contracts or Service level agreement (SLA) that guarantee delivery lead times for the designated inventory items. It makes business sense to shift the risk concerning the cost of maintaining the inventory to the suppliers. Yan et al (2008) Ebeling (1997), pointed out the purpose of maintenance is to extend equipment life and minimise the frequency of service interruption. Ebeling (1997) concluded that availability is the important index of the all indices for power availability. Several maintenance types or tactics have been suggested by many authors for example (Mowbray, 1991 and Kelly, 1997). There are mainly two types of maintenance practices and these are breakdown and preventive maintenance. Breakdown maintenance requires replacement of damaged part of the equipment during unscheduled maintenance while preventive maintenance requires replacement of the components at pre determined intervals. Condition based maintenance is used to monitor the condition of the equipment using condition monitoring technique. There is a general belief that corrective maintenance is less economical than preventive maintenance, and all failures can then be prevented. This approach to preventive maintenance firstly wastes a lot of resources in doing unnecessary tasks which will not improve equipment or system availability and secondly it is potentially risk (Tsang,1995).Principal argument in favour of detailed and integrated asset information system that is accurate and unchallenged information is available to anyone with skills to analyse and interpret it for the benefit of a company (Sherwin, 2000).Predictive scheduling relies more on ... • 5. Carl Sandburg Effects The Effects of Carl Sandburg s Poetry In the world there is hatred, crime, violence, racism, and other bad things that makes up society. The people don t know how bad the reality it is until there is somebody to go and show it to them. It often leads to depression, suicide and other horrible things that we can t imagine. For one poet like Carl Sandburg to describe the bad side of the American life in his poems makes us realize what we do to be human. In modern times we have problems that we have to deal with every day. Carl Sandburg points out in his poems what the problems we face in our lives and how we go through it. The readers should know when they read his poems and have those problems. According to Hartland Thunberg, Penelope, Both men were optimists, but with a profound understanding of the violent and dark side of American life. Taft, too, was a man of modesty, of simplicity and of genuine interest in individual human beings. People have two types of characters like the good and the bad. We have the bad one that goes and does the bad things we do to criticize them and then the good one who that still makes them human. The problems we go through we can relate in the stories that are in Sandburg poems. Sandburg gives the reader a visual on what the story says, to give it a grasp. Carl Sandburg describes natural style in his poem that makes it for everyone that can relate. People struggle in society by depression, war , and having racial issues that ... • 6. The Roaring Twenties By F. Scott Fitzgerald The Roaring Twenties were a time of leisure and parties. The media and events surrounding this time period greatly impacted the carefree, extravagant lifestyle. This era was one of the most dramatic and energetic times in American history. To many, the symbols of the roaring Twenties were F. Scott Fitzgerald and his wife, due to their tales of the young and the wealthy (Hanson 96). The Roaring Twenties influenced many literary works, throughout the 1920s such as F. Scott Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby and This Side of Paradise. At the start of the 1920s, prohibition had just begun, banning the purchase, sale, and manufacture of alcohol. This actually had adverse effects as people began to make their own alcohol and sell it illegally (Hanson 96). World War I had also recently ended, and soldiers were coming home to a recession in the U.S. The end of the war meant a drop in government spending and exports. Business bankruptcies tripled between 1919 and 1920. Many businesses were forced to cut wages and lay off workers (McDonnell 296). As the 1920 recession came to an end, Americans had more leisure time and money to spare (353). By 1922 the economy had fully rebounded and there was even a shortage of workers (319). World War I fueled the fire of American s suspicions of foreigners (McDonnell 296). The Red Scare had Americans paralyzed by the fear of a possible communist infiltration (301). • 7. Social Equality In America Less than one century ago, American women had yet to gain the right to vote, and African Americans still faced heavy oppression through segregation laws and violence. As someone born decades after women s suffrage and the abolition of segregation laws, an America in which every citizen is not given equal opportunity based on gender or race is difficult to fathom, but it is true that our country has oppressed certain groups of people in the past. The United States has progressed immensely in terms of social equality since the government s formation in 1789, but not without the resistance from courageous leaders such as Susan B. Thoreau made the point that no man should ever have to resign his conscience to the legislation. Everyone was given a mind with which to reason and make decisions about morality, and those who find themselves morally at odds with legislation should peacefully resist it instead of following it complacently. Martin Luther King, Jr. highlights that the horrific acts of Adolf Hitler were legal ; it was the power of people who refused to be content that eventually prevented him from passing further oppressive legislation. For this very reason, Americans should hold their elected officials accountable to uphold the Constitution and to pay mind to morals when implementing laws. Recently, President Donald Trump signed an executive order restricting citizens from seven Muslim majority countries from entering the United States. Many American citizens disagreed with this executive order, citing it as prejudiced and unconstitutional, and peaceful protests arose, prompting a federal judge to suspend the travel restriction. Peaceful protests also took place in cities across the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Zoom Car Company Essay Case Example D The main legal issues that have come about from this case are very important for many reasons. Zoom Car Company is being sued on part of Daniel Boone for them to pay for his medical expenses resulting from being dragged from his car and being beaten. The reason behind this is his compass that was installed in his car by Zoom Car Company was faulty which lead him in the wrong direction where he got lost and ended up in a horrible situation. Daniel Boone is suing for his medical bills to be paid by the company of the faulty feature the car offered when it was bought. Who should be responsible for Daniel Boone s medical bills? As the plaintiff he argues that Zoom Car Company should be responsible for his medical bills ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The defendant s argument is they shouldn t be responsible for Daniel Boone s incident because Corrigan Rulers were the ones who manufactured the compass and they should be held responsible for the cost of medical bills and for any other damages. Zoom Car Company believes it is a superseding event, the defendant isn t liable for injuries caused by such events for which he or she is not responsible (108). Which would mean the company can only be held responsible for the faulty compass that was installed in the car not the actions that took place after the fact of where he ended up. It is also possible that Daniel didn t know how to use the compass, which would result in him being held accountable under these circumstances. Nothing is certain on who is responsible for the compass to not work effectively. If there is sufficient proof of the compass not working when the car was purchased it will put them at fault. But if the plaintiff, Daniel Boone, somehow broke the compass after the purchase of the car then he could be held responsible for his actions and would therefore have to pay for his medical bills. For a seller to be held strictly liable, the product it sells must reach the consumer or user without substantial change in its condition (129). If the company, Corrigan Rulers, can somehow prove that the compass was in perfect condition when delivered to Zoom Car Company they will no longer be held responsible for the medical bills. Contrary to popular belief, most of Marley s writings were not ganja anthems, but hopeful songs about redemption, social injustice, spiritual strength, and perseverance in the face of seemingly impossible odds. Included here are my selections or Bob Marley s 10 most inspirational songs. Number One: Zion Train ( Uprising ) 1980. Featured on Marley s 1981 album Uprising, every note of this tune inspires. While Get Up, Stand Up is the most obvious choice from this album, that song was written by Peter Tosh. On Duppy Conqueror, Bob, Peter and Bunny go ghost busting ( duppy means evil spirit). An early Lee Scratch Perry production, Duppy Conqueror is a classic tune about good over evil ( Don t try to cut me off on this bridge now / I ve got to reach Mt. Zion (the highest region) / So if you a bullbucka (bad spirit), let me tell you this / I m a duppy conqueror! ).Number Eight: Trenchtown Rock ( Live! ) 1975. Trenchtown Rock is quite possibly the greatest ghetto anthem ever penned. It is a song in which Marley recasts the ghetto experience from one of shame to one of pride ( Trenchtown rock / Don t turn your back / Trenchtown rock / I say give the slum a try / Trenchtown rock / Never let the children cry / Trenchtown rock or you got to tell Jah, Jah why ).Number Nine: The Heathen ( Exodus ) 1977. Examples Of Ratio Analysis Financial Analysis FINANCIAL STATEMENT ANALYSIS RATIO ANALYSIS Ratio Analysis is a type of Financial Statement Analysis that is utilized to achieve a quick indication of a firm s financial performance in numerous key regions. Financial ratios aid in deciding the connection between two variables in the financial statements. The data necessary for the computation of the ratios is supplied by the financial statements of the firm. Areas where performance has improved or deteriorated over time can be recognized this way. The ratio measures the firm s efficiency at assigning its resources to produce the maximum return. Thus ROCE shows the relationship between invested capital and return. It can be used to depict how much a business is gaining for its assets, or how much it is losing for its liabilities. Return on Capital Employed = Earnings Before Interest and Tax Capital Employed Interpretation: A higher ROCE is favorable as it denotes more efficient use of capital. Essay on Case East Penn Bank Activity Based Costing in the Service Sector: The East Penn Bank ABSTRACT: This case illustrates why a major segment of the service sector banks needs accurate cost information to make strategic decisions, and how more refined accounting systems help fulfill this need. East Penn Bank is a hypothetical bank that has suffered falling profits despite a shift in customer base toward retail customers, which the current information system reports are more profitable than business customers. Following a stepby step approach, you will develop the Bank s average cost of serving a retail customer account and a business customer account, under (1) the Bank s traditional single allocation base system, and (2) a (pilot test) activity based costing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The bank allocates these indirect costs to either the retail customer line or the business customer line, based on the total dollar value of checks processed (which is readily available because each branch must provide the dollar values of daily transactions for internal control). For the current period East Penn processed a total of $95 million in checks, of which $9.5 million was written by retail customers, and $85.5 million was written by business customers. This costing approach was fairly typical of banks and other financial institutions at the time East Penn developed its cost system. In college, Erik learned about an alternative costing approach called activitybased costing (ABC). However, the examples he remembered involved manufacturing firms. He wondered whether East Penn could develop an ABC system, with the business account customer line and the retail account customer line as the two primary cost objects. Erik approached Rob Garrison with this suggestion. Rob was skeptical, exclaiming, Our profits are going down the tubes and you want me to spend money developing a new accounting system? However, Erik persisted, and Rob eventually authorized a pilot ABC study using three local branches of the bank. The ABC implementation team included Erik, the managers of each of the three bank branches, a bank teller, and a representative from the customer ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 14. Effects Of Artificial Lighting On Sea Turtle Populations Barbara Garrow Effects of Artificial Lighting on Sea Turtle Populations Abstract Significant numbers of sea turtles from around the world nest on Florida beaches, although, the human population of Florida happens to be extremely concentrated around coastal areas as well. The development of coasts brings an increase in artificial light, which can be quite the problem for nesting sea turtles. The development and increase in artificial light has contributed greatly to the decline of populations in recent years (Conserve Sea Turtles). Artificial lighting has a detrimental effect on sea turtle reproduction in many different ways. For instance, lighting can cause the turtles to avoid nesting in the area because they consider it bad habitat. Even if they decide to nest there, there is still the chance that their nests may potentially fail (Salmon 2003). Nestlings will often deter their emergence from the nest in the presence of artificial lighting (Salmon). If the nestlings hatch, they begin the process of locating the ocean from the nest, called seafinding . This task is accomplished mostly visually. An effect called hatchling disorientation occurs when hatchlings become disoriented and wander the opposite direction and inland, which then often leads to them to die of dehydration or predation (Witherington 2003). According to scientists, hatchlings have an innate instinct that leads them in the brightest direction , which is usually moon light creating light by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

So from this information a question has been derived, How effectively does the asteroid theory explain the extinction of dinosaurs compared to other theories? Whether it be gradual or sudden changes in climate dinosaurs habitats and environment would have been affected making it harder for them to adapt. A sudden change may have triggered a change in the weather thus affecting food sources. Gradual changes may have slowly changed environments like cool wet areas into dry areas affecting life there in a big way. Today I will be walking you through the life of Galileo and how he was a Renaissance change maker. Galileo Galilei had a great impact during the Renaissance, in the fields of physics and astronomy, by applying the methods of hypothesizing, experimenting and his ability to stand up for what he believed in. Galileo was a child of Vincenzo Galilei, a well educated musician and scholar who made crucial theories and practice in the music field. In his mid teens, Galileo went to monastery school, then later went to study medicine at the University of Pisa in 1581. I read the first question (1a) out loud and had barely finished when he gave me the answer. His mental math was in high gear despite his initial apprehension. I proceeded to the next question (1b) with the same result. He provided an answer quickly to this question as well. I was beginning to wonder if this was going to be too easy for him, so I asked him to write down and explain his thinking so I could understand how he got the answers. For number (1a), he explained that he multiplied 6 by 3 because Alice ate 6 ounces of cake and she grew 3 feet for each ounce of cake that she ate. He then added the product of 36 to her original height of 4 and came up with the answer of 40 feet. For (1b), he modeled a different approach where he started with 16 feet and subtracted 4 increments of 3 until he arrived at Alice s original height of 4 feet. He told me that he knew that he needed to get to the base height, and that is why he used subtraction. He did it in increments of 3 as he knew that Alice grew 3 feet/ounce of cake. The exception to this statement occurs in the global urban areas with high population densities. In these areas, the substitutes available (e.g., walking, mass transit, bicycles, etc.) can be less costly than automobiles and thus alternative modes of transportation are often preferred. Also, there are inherent underlying social and cultural attitudes that keep people from owning automobiles in some parts of the world. Policymakers who are against increasing equity see it leading to a moral hazard. By creating a safety net through redistribution, they believe it will eliminate the incentive for people to work hard and contribute to society. Government on the other hand would have to increase their work effort in order to create the bureaucracy responsible for ensuring that equality is maintained. • 35. The Environmental Effects Of Plastic Shopping Bags Originally patented in 1965, the single use plastic shopping bag has since become ubiquitous in America and around the world. Plastic bags were first introduced in grocery stores in 1977, and by the early 2000s they constituted 80% of the market for shopping bags (Laskow). These bags caught on because they were stronger, lighter, waterproof, and many people found them easier to carry than paper. Most importantly though, they were cheaper, meaning retail stores had strong incentives to make them available to customers and promote their use (Petru). In other words, plastic bags became popular, and remain so today, because they are convenient. However, this convenience does not take into account the environmental effects associated with their production, distribution, and disposal. Once these aspects of their use are considered, it is clear that the convenience of plastic shopping bags do not justify the harms to the ecosystem caused by their existence. Plastic bags are usually made out of high density polyethylene (HDPE), a strong, durable plastic made from ethylene monomers (Clark). 134 million metric tons of ethylene are produced each year as of 2014, with 28% of that production going towards the manufacture of HDPE (Lazonby, Ethene ). Ethylene is produced from oil and natural gas, and in the process has significant environmental consequences. According to a 2013 study by Ghanta, Fahey, and Subramaniam published in the journal Applied Petrochemical Research, For ethylene produced from naphtha and ethane [the two main sources of ethylene], the energy expended during the extraction and ocean based transportation of fossil fuel sources (crude oil and natural gas) contributes significantly to adverse environmental impacts such as GHG [greenhouse gas] emissions, acidification, and eco toxicity. To make ethylene, fossil fuels must be extracted, transported, and processed (Lazonby, Ethene ). Then the ethylene must be processed to make HDPE (Lazonby, Poly(Ethene) ). • 37. Ssg Arroa s Squad At Fort Indiantown Gap SSG Arroa s squad moved cautiously down the path that the Sergeant had marked to the main gate at Fort Indiantown Gap. The rest of the first platoon had held back as well as the company to provide cover for the advancing squad. SSG Arroa had cleared about a hundred yards past the main gain without any problems. They encountered no resistance, but several booby traps, which they disabled. Their orders were that once they were able to breach the main gate, they were to begin to remove the barricades, which consisted of everything but the kitchen sink, several cars that had been pushed into the front of the gate, chairs, benches, large rocks, mounds of dirt, and a couple of desks. SSG Arroa sent Corporal Reyes to his Platoon Sergeant and told him to send more men to help clear the barricade. There was no way he could provide security for him and his men as well as move everything out of the way. SFC Dittmyer was the Platoon Sergeant; the man was not a great thinker and a very poor leader. He had decided to send one more squad to help SSG Arroa; why the entire platoon didn t move was lost on SSG Arroa. Once they had cleared the gate everyone was supposed to move through it so why wait. However, SSG Arroa knew it wasn t his job to wonder why the Army did things. His job was to execute his orders to the best of his ability. Second Squad led by SSG Dane moved out of their position in the woods running toward the main gate, down the path and meeting up with first squad. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Stereotypes and Stereotyping A Stereotypical Female in I m Your Horse in the Night Luisa Valenzuela s short story titled I m Your Horse in the Night is a thought provoking piece of literature. The story is written in such a way that the reader must interpret what is meant by what is being said. Although it is easy to go into depth when describing the elements of this piece, the storyline is rather simple. The story contains an assortment of characters; with those characters being Chiquita, Beto, Andres, and several policemen. The time and location are unknown. The telephone tells us that the time period is of somewhat modern times, and the Spanish ethnicity would most likely relate to the setting being that of a Spanish colonization. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The man in which Chiquita calls Beto would also be considered a major character. Even though the man is never actually present in the story physically, we hear about him extensively through the thoughts and words of Chiquita. The minor character roles would fall upon Andres, and the police officers. Andres might not even qualify as being a valid character, considering that Chiquita was not even sure whether it was him or not on the telephone that morning. The police men are a somewhat important factor to this story, but they are not described as round characters and therefore show no verisimilitude. The title of the story, I m Your Horse in the Night, is relating to a line on the record which Beto brought with him in Chiquita s dream. She tells Beto that she will be his horse in the night, meaning that she will always be there for him. While reading this story, it helps to apply the elements of new criticism. One opposition that was quite distinct, was the fact that Chiquita is in love with this man who is never there for her. She fantasizes about him, making it seem as though he would be an ideal mate, when he obviously is not. Chiquita appears to be living off on her own. It seems as though she is almost isolating herself from the rest of the world. The fact that she sees this wretched man as the one she loves, would be a symbol of low self esteem. Because land is costly and scarce, adding more highway lanes and building new airports in or near our larger cities is becoming increasingly difficult. For example, adding new highway capacity in urban areas typically costs more than $15 million per land mile, and a new Denver airport is estimated to cost $3 to 4 billion. Current transportation technologies are petroleum dependent, accounting for 64 percent of total petroleum use. Without transportation alternatives that reduce petroleum dependency, transportation related petroleum use is expected to remain high 36 percent above our own US petroleum production, so we will have to get the oil from other countries which will raise taxes on oil imports, possibly creating national security problems. High speed ground transportation systems are capable of approaching the speed of airplane flight while offering some of the flexibility of the automobile, such systems can provide added capacity in dense corridors around the world. Because of its very high speed, it will be more likely to attract medium distance air travelers and highway drivers than high speed rail. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Professional Ethics as new as it is has encouraged three things for me self awareness, questioning my actions and reactions to situations and open mindedness. The content taught in class thus far has really started a chain of thoughts for me personally, in the past I had never given much thought to what my principles are and how my principles influence me. My weaknesses that were reveal, genuinely took me by surprise as I was not aware of most of them prior to taking the test. How does a person like me who has considered themselves to be of high moral and high principles go from here? It was hard at first for me to not sit and dwell on my shortcomings and think that I was a bad person . In the past three weeks I have come to the conclusion that the areas where I experienced inadequacies did not equate to me being a bad person. Instead it was the result of falling into the trap of societal expectancy. Everyone wants to see the world in a certain order and when you find that it is not so, you rationalize by thinking that other people do not have the same principles you do and somehow that makes you a lesser being. The reality of the matter is that different people have different principles. I was brought up in a fairly religious family and had what was considered a normal childhood. When I was young, ... • 41. Empathy In Homeless In Black Men And Public Space In Homeless , Quindlen shows empathy toward homeless people. For example, throughout the story, Quindlen brings forth points pertaining to how having a home is everything (193). Homeless people don t experience little things that come with having a home such as having walls and painting them a color of their own choosing (193). On the other hand, in Black Men Public Space , Staples makes the reader empathize with him and blacks in general and makes the reader see his perspective. Staples emphasizes his concern for being considered a threat in public spaces through the use of explicit language. Staples starts off by saying, My first victim was a woman (197). Using the word victim , he expresses explicit language and stresses his point of view. Additionally, using the word victim provides the reader with a different perspective on how the person who is being perceived as being a threat feels. The outdoors, which is a public space, is not comforting. As Quindlen says, Home is where the heart is ; it is a place of certainty, stability, predictability, [and] privacy (193). Home is a private space surrounded by walls, making people who reside there feel secure. In contrast to Staples, Quindlen uses implicit language because it is implied that on the other hand, living in a public space can be threatening because certain public spaces are considered unsafe. Black people in the streets can be perceived as being one of the many threats, like Staples was. Ironically, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Why Did The War Of 1812 Occur The War of 1812 was a war that was fought between the U.S. and Britain from June 1812 to January 1815. There are several reasons why the War of 1812 occurred. The main reason was from the restrictions Britain had on American Shipping. The U.S. had tried to remain neutral between France and Great Britain. Those countries went to war and an American ship, Chesapeake, was fired upon by the British in 1807. Britain ordered trade restrictions for the U.S., prohibiting them from trade with France or its allies. France also wanted to limit trade with Britain. The U.S. responded with the Embargo Act of 1807, which stopped trading with all countries. There were also rumors that the British were making an ally with the Native Americans. Britain also ... This victory denied the British control over the Great Lakes. The U.S. then won a battle in the banks of Thames River in South Ontario. This victory helped break the resistance from the Native Americans when Tecumseh, the most visionary Indian warrior, was killed. In 1814, Britain forced Napoleon to give up and this allowed Britain to focus all of their attention on the war with the U.S. Britain post two major offensives in 1814. This was a major blow to the U.S. because the Treasury was nearly bankrupt. Britain occupied and torched Washington, DC. In August 1814, but this only strengthened the resistance from America. When Britain failed to follow up their attack on Baltimore, American defenses held strong, thus prompting Francis Scott Key to write The Star Spangled Banner. After America won the Battle of Plattsburgh in 1814, the tide has turned. Britain started to withdraw and scaled back it demands. Britain was ready to restore profitable trade with American and reduce its high debt from the war. The Treaty of Ghent was signed on December 24, 1814, and the war was over. There was not any territory the changed hands. Nothing was addressed about the impressments of rights of neutrals. The two types of football people watch the most is college football and professional football. Everyone has their own opinion on which they prefer. I personally think that because of that with the NFL on center stage, we lose sight of the true spirit of football. Football is about a team s love and dedication for the game, not some player that s getting payed a million dollars to throw and run the ball because he has a Bugatti payment to make. An average NFL player gets paid $1.9 million dollars a year, according to Forbes . Ben Roethlisberger, QB for the Pittsburgh Steelers, made $48.9 million dollars between June 2014 and June 2015. Accounts of Miracles and Their Support of Belief in God Essay Accounts of Miracles and Their Support of Belief in God The definition of a miracle is a violation of the laws of nature , it is an exception that is beyond all naturalistic explanations, meaning they must be explained supernaturally. So do accounts of miracles support the belief in God? Firstly, one must decided whether there is sufficient evidence to prove the existence of miracles, something that people have disagreed about a lot. A McKinnon says that natural laws are just descriptions of the actual course of events so to say that a natural law has been violated would be a contradiction, these events merely show that our natural laws are at ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hume s argument is not a very strong one, as we need an argument independent of what we are trying to prove. Hume also argues that all recorded miracles made by various religions contradict each other, therefore cancel each other out, however Hume is confusing the interpretation of the miracle with whether or not the miracle actually exists. Different religions have interpreted events differently, but these interpretations are not the same as the event, all Hume s argument is succeeding in doing is cancelling out the interpretation, not whether or not miracles do in fact exist. A. Flew says that we must go back to the definition of a miracle, and there we shall find that there is something wrong; the definition is incomplete. The definition states that a miracle is something that is beyond naturalistic explanation. However, Flew argues that one never has the ability to state whether or not something will permanently be beyond naturalistic explanation, we do not know what we may discover in the future, with our limited knowledge we cannot be sure that something may not be naturalistically explained in the future.
