Improving The Target Market Of Panera Bread
Expanding the target market of Panera Bread is a good growth opportunity for them. This can be
achieved by product line (menu options) extension or by entering international market outside the
American continent so as to increase their geographical coverage. In addition, Panera has an
opportunity to get additional market and growth by adapting rapidly to changing market and customer
preferences. They need to advertise and market themselves as a healthy option for eating out. Health
oriented food or food that are low in calories, sugar, cholesterol, etc. is getting very important as
people started becoming very health conscious and selective. Their effort to roll out new products with
fresher ingredients such as antibiotic free chicken needs to be further expanded. Recognizing the
health risks associated with transfat, Panera had completely removed all transfat from its menu by
2006. Organic food, non GMO, etc. They could increase number of their franchises. A number of
markets were still available for franchise development. The have opportunity in front of them to open
more outlets, both company owned and franchises. They could open within North America and mainly
in areas where they are not present now, and those areas where the growth potential is good, like some
of the suburban markets. Many good locations for fast casual dining options are available in many of
the untapped areas. Panera has a good market opportunity outside the small urban niche where greater

Germany s Experience On A German Based Carrier
Germany
This was my first opportunity to visit Europe and experience a completely different culture. My
learnings began as soon as I boarded the plane for my non stop flight to Munich on the German based
Lufthansa airlines. The experience on a German based carrier was unlike anything I had experienced
on the American based airlines I had flown in the past. The crew were incredibly hospitable and made
sure that everyone was taken care of from take off to landing. Everything on the flight was included,
entertainment, on demand movies, full hot meals and beverages. Even though I was flying coach in a
small seat with limited space, the German airline really made me feel like a valued customer. This
kind of hospitality continued ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition there is a 5.5 percent solidarity surtax. This brings to the tax burden to 16.7 percent of the
German GDP. With the government taking in these tax dollars the German government spends
approximately 44.3% of the GDP. Most importantly Germany s budget currently enjoys a surplus.
(http://www.heritage.org/index/country/germany). This is in sharp contrast to the United States which
has one of the highest corporate tax rates, currently topping out at 35%, while the United States only
spends 39% of the GDP. (http://www.heritage.org/index/country/unitedstates) This comparison puts
clearly into focus why this is such a major point of interest in the current election. It appears that the
cost of being in business in Germany is less than the United States and therefore makes them more
competitive. I have seen this to be true in the amount of United States companies that have tried to
relocate their headquarters to European countries to enjoy the corporate tax advantages.
Germany is a very strong country and is a leader in the economic and business environment. They
have spent their energy working to innovate create new technologies. They focus on their people as a
key asset and ensure they are trained and are a valuable element in the global work force.
(http://reports.weforum.org/manufacturing growth/germany/). This is clearly seen in the precision and
skill of the processes and work force at the

Inspired By Author, Harriet Beecher, Sarah Orne Jewett...
Sarah Orne Jewett began writing at an early age as she was inspired by, The Pearl of Orr s Island
written by Harriet Beecher Stowe. Jewett began writing in the style of the author of her inspiration and
thus fell in love with the style of writing that encapsulated nearly every author of her time, local color
writing. Local color writing is a style of writing that became popular just after the Civil War. Many
writers began writing with a focus on the way of life and nature in their direct surrounding areas and
regions. As mentioned by The Norton Anthology: American Literature Volume 2, local color writing
embodies the depiction of, ...the topographies, people, speech patterns, and modes of life of the nation
s distinctive regions (412). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Each of these individually would not make up color writing but once they are all pieced together they
create an environment so familiar to Jewett and those who know the coast of Maine well. Jewett
writes the story as if the land is capable of enchantment and the reader gets that feel with each
description of the land. This too is a crucial aspect of local color, specifically when it comes to
satisfying the topography category. While each description of the land may not entirely be specific to
Maine, it is their author that constructs such a combination that the land comes alive and is a crucial
piece of the story just as crucial as the characters themselves. The characters in A White Heron are not
entirely specific to Maine, but their speech patterns as well as their way of life are for sure. The first
example of how the characters add to the local color of the story is when the ornithologist first meets
Sylvia. The stranger first met Sylvia out in nature while Sylvia was walking with her grandmother s
cow. The stranger was not in a place that he knew well and asked Sylvia about where the road is.
Sylvia helped the stranger because he had lost his way. This is a great example of how A White Heron
is local color writing. Sylvia represents her region of Maine and the stranger is just a representation of
people from outside of the Maine region that Sylvia hails from. Even though Sylvia is much younger
and much less experienced in the wild than the ornithologist,

The Worst Day Of The World Trade Center
The Worst Day
Fourteen years ago on September 11, at 8:46 a.m. on a beautiful tuesday morning, a plane struck the
north tower of the World Trade Center in New York City. The unexpected crash killed hundreds of
people inside instantly, leaving millions in shock. At 9:04 a.m. a second plane sliced into the south
tower causing a massive explosion near the 60th floor. At 9:45 a.m. another plane struck the Pentagon
military headquarters in Washington D.C., causing a portion of the building to collapse. Fifteen
minutes after the plane struck the Pentagon, the south tower of the World Trade Center collapsed; at
10:30 a.m., the second tower collapsed killing close to 3,000 people. Lt. Col. Shelton F. Leskford, a
U.S. Marine stated, Sept. 11, 2001 seems destined to be the watershed event of our lives and the
greatest test for our democracy in our lifetimes (Ross). This attack by the Osama bin Laden led al

today. September 11, 2001 marks the most significant event in the 21st century, because of this event,
the United States has incurred substantial debt and economic downturn, the immigration policy has

The War Soviet Expansion Of The United States
Introduction In 1976, with the election of Georgia governor and Washington outsider Jimmy Carter to
the Presidency, the American people could expect that a change was going to come and they were
right. After years of military action attempting to stop Cold War Soviet expansion, first in Vietnam
under Presidents Kennedy, Johnson and Nixon, followed by the quick and possibly unnecessary
bombing of Cambodia by President Ford in response to seizure of the U.S. freighter Mayaguez
(History.com, 2016), Americans were war weary. Thus they welcomed the affable Southern peanut
farmer who promised a foreign policy based on high moral principles and regard for human rights.
Indeed, Carter set the tone with the following statement, during the first year of his (only) term: For
too many years, we ve been willing to adopt the flawed and erroneous principles and tactics of our
adversaries, sometimes abandoning our own values for theirs. We ve fought fire with fire, never
thinking that fire is sometimes best quenched with water. This approach failed, with Vietnam the best
example of its intellectual and moral poverty. But through failure we have now found our way back to
our own principles and values, and we have regained our lost confidence. (Department of State, 2016).
Thus Carter took office believing he had a mandate to conduct foreign policy according to doctrines of
supporting moral values and human rights in our relations with other countries, turning to the military
only as a

Advantages Of Gender Neutral Bathrooms
Introduction: Arguments refer to exchange of different viewpoints on any topic. Rational argument is
based on sound reasoning and logic and not just meant for convincing others but providing evidence
for the argument. Most arguments are based on rationality where logic and evidence is combined
support the argument.
Definition of terms: Rational comes from the Latin word rationalis, meaning reasonable or logical. If
you re rational, you do things based on logic, as opposed to impulse or whimsy
(http://www.vocabulary.com/dictionary). The question is is it advisable to have gender neutral
bathrooms? Most schools have segregated washrooms, i.e. separate washrooms for boys and girls.
However, I feel that in modern times, it need not be so. Single user bathrooms are meant for use by
one person at a time and multi user bathrooms have stalls that can be used by several people at one
time. Gender neutral bathrooms can be used by anyone. Perhaps gender inclusive would be a better
word to use.
Reasoning used: In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

anxiety and prevent bullying. Young children are capable of identifying their gender and need to feel
comfortable in the school environment. Separate bathrooms for transgender students would highlight
them, increase social bias and make them vulnerable to ridicule and violence. Bathrooms meant for all
genders would help in more equality between the sexes as it would force boys to accept that girls also
use bathrooms and girls would have less fear of boys. Single user unisex bathrooms are acceptable to
many students as it ensures a degree of privacy. Multi user stalls are also used in several schools.
Students main purpose in coming to school is acquiring education. There should be no discomfort due

Tips On Online Casino Bonus
Blog 29 How to stretch your online casino bonus
While it seems like there are countless welcome bonus and sign up offers available to players, once
one is claimed at an online casino that s it. At each online casino you register at you get one welcome
bonus and no more. That means that when an online casino bonus lands in your account the key is to
making last as long as possible. While this seems easy enough, it tends to be tougher than most people
realise. If you really want to see your online casino bonus last longer than five minutes, I suggest you
pay close attention to the following.
Tip No. 1 Don t grab the very first bonus you see
Part of the task of extending an online casino bonus as far as it can go actually begins with registering
for the right online casino bonus in the first place. The temptation is often to grab the first bonus that
you see, but seldom is that ever a good idea. You will want to look at online casino portal before you
do anything and find a casino bonus that is at least somewhat favourable towards the player. Be
patient, do you research, and find an online casino bonus that has extension potential.
Tip No. 2 Keep your bankroll under control
If you honestly believe that all you need to make it in the world of online casino gaming is an online
casino bonus you need to think again. Untold riches aren t going to land at your feet with this
approach and you will more than likely see that online casino bonus reduced to dust in a matter of

The Battle Of The Spanish Civil War
It s safe to say that, even if someone claims to know little to nothing about Spain s history, the names
Franco, Hitler, and Mussolini ring a bell in their mind. Simply being able to recognize these names
proves some knowledge on the subject of the Spanish Civil War, lasting from 1936 to 1939. For those
who are unsure as to what qualifies as a civil war, dictionary.com defines it as, a war between parties,
factions, or inhabitants of different regions within the same nation . In the case of the Spanish Civil
War, the fight was between the Spanish republican government and the Nationalist military.
Representative of the impeding power struggle between extremists in support of fascism and
communism, the war began on July 18th, 1936 as an uprising by several Spanish officers. This
uprising would spark the three year Spanish civil war that ultimately resulted in a 40 year dictatorship.
The left wing was referred to as the loyalists and the republicans. The groups that supported and
comprised the republican cause were workers, peasants and trade unions, the Spanish government, and
the three factions, the socialists, communists, and anarchists. In addition to these groups, the
International Brigades, including the Abraham Lincoln Brigade, which was made of American
volunteers willing to travel to aid the republican cause in the civil war, the Soviet Union, and other
European Democracies, supported the republic. Many foreign artists and intellectuals such as Earnest

The Negative Effects Of The Media On The Women s Body Image
The increasing and widespread use of media, as well as it tremendous ability to influence its audience,
has raised various concerns over the effects the media has on its viewers. One of the fields of
increasing concerns is the idea that the media portrays unrealistic body images and that these
portrayals have negative consequences on their viewers, especially so for women. Women have
always been associated with ideals of beauty and a particular body image. The question arises as to
how far the media further perpetuate these models and body images, and what are the consequences of
these effects? When the media works to perpetuate such ideals of beauty and body image, the majority
of the female population, who do not conform to such ideals and body type, fall prey to psychological
issues resulting from body dissatisfaction such as depression, self hate, negative moods, and emotions,
particularly for the younger women. Such negative emotions, when evoked, can lead to negative
consequences and actions for the affected female population, which include drastic, harmful steps
such as crash diets, self harm, or cosmetic surgery.
Effects of Media on the Women s Body Image
Many studies have been based on the concerning effects of media portrayals of beauty and body
images on women. Yamammiya et al. (2005) write that research on media images show around 94% of
the female characters shown on television are thinner than the average American woman. Moreover,

The Rights Of The United States Of America Essay
I am advocating for ending the One Person, One Vote method of voting on referendums and for
candidates that is currently employed in the United States of America. The One Person, One Vote
strategy, henceforth referred to as 1p1v, has several key flaws that have made it an unfair and often
inefficient method of deciding what the best decision with the largest net social product, or who the
candidate most intensely supported by constituents, truly is. Making collective decisions based on
majority rule is an idea as old as democracy, and in theory, it seems like the right idea. The idea of
proportional and equal voting just seems, fair, doesn t it? However, the issue with majority rule is that
the majority can completely disregard the justifiable and well founded interests of the minority. This
problem is known as Tyranny of the majority . The current 1p1v system that we have in place has
proven to allow the tyranny of the majority to take place from issues as petty as marijuana
legalization, to incredibly important issues like same sex marriage. The 1p1v system fails to give
proportional weight to those with greater interest in an issue, leading to inequality. But if the 1p1v
system does not work, and the entire voting system must be restructured to ensure fairness and
equality, where do we go from here? It is well known that the most important issue to Americans is the
economy , so I believe we should model our government and method of voting after the one institution

An Analysis Of Ellen Hopkins s You Know My Story
The poem, You Know My Story , is an excerpt from a larger poem, and novel, called Glass by Ellen
Hopkins. The book is the second book in a series of three describing the rollercoaster life of Kristina
Georgia Snow while on drugs. The free verse poetry books were very largely inspired by Hopkins
daughter s own drug addiction (Goodreads). Her daughter, Cristal was very much like Kristina from
the story. She became addicted to the same drug as Kristina and even had a child that was later
adopted by Hopkins, just like the character from the story (Hopkins). The poem is written in a very
interesting way. If someone were to read the poem straight across as literature is meant to be read, the
poem would be very descriptive and tell a short story on just one page. But with many of Hopkins
works, if the poem is read just using the stand alone words or phrases on the right, a new poem is
born. This new poem is a much creepier summary of the larger poem. In this case the new poem reads,
my dive into insanity, no longer perfect, Kristina became the monster (Hopkins). The entire poem has
a very dark mood. It has very deep traces of helplessness and a misplaced self identity for the narrator.
The tone shifts a few times, but throughout it shares the same darkness of the mood. First there is
anger, then sadness and, finally complete vulnerability. Any piece of literature that talks about an
addict of any sort, tends to be very dark and depressing. This poem is no exception to that idea. If a
person was new to the works of Ellen Hopkins, they might not be aware of the fact that her books are
poetry. The free verse style lends itself well to the writing of a novel, but it is not the type of rhyming
poetry that most people are used to. It seems more like a book than a poem at first, yet if reread the
poetic nature is made more noticeable. Hopkins has stated that she doesn t plan out her books
beforehand because her poetry has to flow naturally and too much planning messes with the natural
flow of things (Hopkins).
There is no discernable rhythm or rhyme scheme to this poem. That holds true for most free verse
poems. As previously stated, this type of poetry tends to work well when writing an entire book
comprised of

Alcoholism and Alcohol Abuse
In the United States alone, nearly 18 million people have an addiction to alcohol. This drug can be a
mild to chronic addiction and sometimes can turn out fatal for some people (Chakraburtty). Almost
100,000 people have died from overusing this drug (Chakraburtty). Alcoholism and alcohol abuse is
not only damaging emotionally, physically, and mentally to the person who is doing it, but to the
people around them as well. Both alcoholism and alcohol abuse are each categorized as different
cases. Alcohol abuse is different from alcoholism because people who are just alcohol abusers still

much. Alcohol abuse is still a very serious case though; ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
People may think that alcohol may be hard only on the liver, but when someone abuses alcohol it can
affect much more. For example, alcohol has a major effect on the brain. Alcohol has been known to be
a major cause of many suicides, homicides, car accidents, and other death related topics
(Chakraburtty). Many people are naïve into thinking that alcohol can and is harmless, but while they
are having that drink to just have a good time, they are unaware of the toll it is taking on their body.
Chronic alcohol use is very hard on your health and can lead to many long lasting health problems
(Chakraburtty). Alcohol is very harmful to other organs as well as the body s tissue. According to
Alcohol s Damaging Effects on the Brain, moderate drinking leads to short term impairment, but it
can also lead to long term impairment as well (Parsons). The long term impairment that can happen,
especially with parents, is the huge effect on the people around the alcoholic. Parents that have a
drinking problem tend to be blinded and cannot see the damage that is being done. Children who are
exposed to any alcoholism may struggle in school, work, and other activities ( Teens ). Parents who
are abusing alcohol pay more attention to their own problems and trying to cope with them, rather
than focusing on their kids and the damage that is possibly building up in that child. Often times the

Julius Robert Oppenheimer, the Man Who Created the Nuclear...
One man created a nuclear bomb, ended a world war, saved hundreds of thousands of lives, all while
creating a new wave of theoretical physics. He was born on April 22, 1904 in New York. His father,
who had come to the United States from Germany at the age of 17, was a prosperous textile importer.
His mother, Ella Freedman, was a painter who studied in Paris and came from Baltimore. He is Julius
Robert Oppenheimer. Oppenheimer was the most important person of the twentieth century due to his
creation of the School of Theoretical Physics in Berkeley, his crucial work on the development of the
atomic bomb, which ended World War II, and his thoughtful opposition to the great destruction that
could be wrought by the atomic bombs.

States to develop the nuclear bomb before its opponents. If Oppenheimer was not involved, the
nuclear bomb may not have been created in time for its use in Japan, leading to hundreds of thousands
of unnecessary deaths. Estimates from the Radiation Effects Research Foundation, a cooperative Japan
US research organization, say that there were an estimated 90,000 to 166,000 casualties from the
bomb dropped in Hiroshima, Japan, and an estimated 60,000 to 80,000 casualties from the bomb

Imperial Japan would have kept fighting to keep their honor. This would have, most likely, led to a

Law Problems A Health Football Club Faced
This paper focuses on analyzing the a few questions about a series of law problems a Health Football
Club faced, those questions concern formation of contract, some remedies can be applied through
relevant law knowledge. In this case, it is essential to whether the action of HFC that inviting season
ticket holder to renew for next season is an offer or not. In some point of view, it should be an offer. it
can also be an invitation to treat without the certain term of price of £700 for all applications received
before May 5th , so the contract is legal binding automatically when offer accepted by offeree.
According to general law principle, an offer must be clear on certain terms and must be communicated
to the other party, a vague information the offeror given would be regarded as an invitation to treat and
mere buff or boast. Obviously and generally, a normal advertisement locally would be an invitation to
treat, which is not enforceable to be an offer such as case of Partridge v Crittenden(1968), but if there
are some specific set of terms in order to create legal relations, an offer can be found. See example of
Blackpool Fylde Aero Flying Club Ltd v Blackpool Borough Council(1990). The fact is Liam sent a
letter on April 28th, it takes long time than expected and received by HFC on May 7th, so HFC
terminated old offer with £700, and regard the acceptance as a one of an new offer with £850.
Nevertheless, it holds that Liam does not owe £175 to HFC. It stands to reason

Throughout the short story, Fitzgerald strategically incorporates statements that develop a contrast
between countries economic statuses and materialistic values of the time period. From Charlie s first

Fitzgerald does not use the term French as a complimentary adjective in order to emphasize the
glamorized idea of American opportunity and wealth of the twenties. He presents this difference in
cultural values more blatantly later as Charlie and his in laws discuss the guardianship of his daughter,

Politics Cultures of Africa
Ever since British geologists first discovered diamonds in Sierra Leone s jungles in the 1930 s,
diamonds have been a key factor in the bloody conflict that has ravaged this small West African
country. In his novel, Blood Diamonds, Greg Campbell captures the heart wrenching story of one man
s encounter with the Revolutionary United Front (RUF), a rebel group in Sierra Leone, infamous for
their brutal tactics of mass rape, torture, looting, and excruciations. But their signature and most

The world s biggest diamond mining and marketing company, De Beers Consolidated Mines of South
Africa, announced in February 2000, that it will no longer buy any diamonds sourced from a region
controlled by an armed group opposed to the legitimate authority in a country
(http://web.amnesty.org). According to a report by Partnership Africa Canada (P.A.C.), upwards of
50,000 [have been] killed, half the population displaced, and more than two thirds of its already
severely limited infrastructure destroyed. Meanwhile, the underground trade of illicit diamonds is
booming. Conflict diamonds are valued between 4 percent and 15 percent of the world total and
generate annual trade revenues of $7.5 billion (Johnson).
According to De Beers s, conflict diamonds are minded or stolen by rebels who are in opposition to
the legitimate government of a country (Campbell 127). With this definition of conflict diamonds ,
DeBeers has no only proved itself with linguistic maneuverability but trade maneuverability as well. It
is no secret that the industry, after all, is bigger than the company alone and in fact is critical to the
economies of at least four nations. (Campbell 127) DeBeers has taken steps to ensure that some of
their diamonds were conflict free with the demand for action so apparent. DeBeers first step in the
right direction resulted in a devastating blow to earnings, a net loss

To Kill A Mockingbird Setting Analysis
I think there s just one kind of folks. Folks (Lee 304). This concept that Scout brings up goes against
what others Maycomb believe in as Maycomb County from To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee has
lots of prejudice. Two reasons why the setting is very significant are, Maycomb County is a small
town the significance of that is that everyone knows each other and often have the same views as each
other this in turn causes prejudice. Also, Maycomb community finds their history to be very important
this changes how people act which shows how the setting could have major effects. In Harper Lee s To

In Maycomb the actions of your relatives in the past affects your future if no one likes your relatives
in the past they will not like you to. This is why setting can be so significant to the novel. Even
children find it shameful to not understand their family history as it is a source of pride for the people
of Maycomb. Scout says, Being Southerners, it was a source of shame to some members of the family
that we had no recorded ancestors on either side of the Battle of Hastings (3). To Kill a Mockingbird
takes place around 1935 approximately 870 years earlier is when the Battle of Hastings took place.
This would seem absurd to other people since this event took place hundreds of years ago. However,
since the setting is Maycomb which is in the south this is very important to them. This is concept is
due only to the setting which shows just how important it is to the novel. This next evidence will
further prove that people from Maycomb feel like history is crucial to their lives. Scout says, It was a
sad thing that my father had neglected to tell me about the Finch family or install any pride into his
children (176). This furthers the knowledge that everyone in Maycomb even children believe it is
necessary to learn about their heritage and about family history. In Maycomb people find history so
important that they make plays about it. Mrs. Merriweather, Chanted mournfully about Maycomb

The Beauty of Adam and Eve
In a world bombarded with technology and constant distractions, society often forgets the importance
and beauty of art. A branch of art, literature, lends a tremendous impact upon society. Marjorie
Pickthall constructs an elegant poem, Adam and Eve, while reinterpreting the well known Biblical
story, Adam and Eve. Similar to Pickthall, a renaissance artist, Masaccio, however, interprets the
Biblical story of Adam and Eve with a different interpretation. In his painting, the expulsion of Eden,
he focuses on Adam and Eve s reaction while leaving the Garden of Eden. Although Pickthal and
Masaccio have different prescripts of the story of Adam and Eve, both adopt the same plot. While
arriving in the perfect garden of Eden, Eve is suddenly attracted to the forbidden fruit. Beguiled by the
serpent , Eve eats the fruit, passing it on to her husband, and is then banished, along with Adam, from
the Garden of Eden. Because Pickthall uses artistic license and a rhyme scheme, she constructs a
poem, indirectly relating to Masaccio s painting, the expulsion of Eden, and directly relating to the
bible.
Due to Pickthall s usage of artistic license in her poem,a new meaning arises in relation to the Bible.
The major instance of artistic license in Adam and Eve, the location in which the whole story takes
place in, The Garden of Eden, changes to Beauty . The first stanza describes, gracefully, Eve s first
interaction with the tree of knowledge, In the clear silence Beauty found them

Background And Credentials Of My Great Leaders
Now comes the best part of the paper where I have the esteem opportunity to give the background and
credentials of my great leaders. They each are three excellent coaches of dominate teams in the sports
industry. My leaders are: Phil Jackson (Chicago Bulls, Los Angeles Lakers, and New York Knicks),
Bill Belichick (New England Patriots), and Nick Saban (Alabama Crimson Tide).
Phil Jackson was born Philip Douglas Jackson on September 17, 1945, in Deer Lodge, Montana to
two Assemblies of God ministers. Jackson and his siblings were raised in a household where they
were not allowed to watch movies or television, and couldn t even dance for enjoyment. During his
high school career, he played basketball, football and baseball but only had the desire to play
basketball after graduation and received a scholarship from North Dakota to play there. Although his
college career was short, he helped his team win third and fourth place finishes in the NCAA Division
II championships. In the 1967 NBA Draft, he was selected by the New York Knicks in the second
round. Even though he wasn t an elite superstar, the Knicks were able to win two NBA
Championships in 1970 and 1973 against the Los Angeles Lakers while Jackson was a member of the

Confiscation Acts. Very few outside the vocal cadre of outspoken abolitionists were concerned with
the plight of those of African descent. On the social side, no one in the north, forget the south, wanted
an influx of uneducated, homeless, angry former slaves with no income, no means of support and no

ADVANTAGES OF RUBY ON RAILS
Ruby on Rail is constructed by the language of ruby which is a programming language dynamically.
Thus, the basic advantage of Ruby on Rails comes by the language usage, as ruby makes it very easy
to do Meta programming.
One major advantages of Ruby on Rail is its MVC framework, in which RoR offer sever handling
view layers, the models layers (database communication), as well as the interaction between such
layers with the help of controllers. Different frameworks depend on several developmental efforts to
get this.
One more essential feature is the database tables mapping to the objects of Ruby named as models.
The running database along with the application code, already it contain everything Ruby on Rails
needs to know, that s why there is no need to deal with the inner deep details.
In Ruby on Rails, the striking feature is known as scaffolding. With the Ruby on Rails scaffolding,
automatically, it create the operations of CRUD complete set (i.e., Create, Retrieve, Update, as well as

German Support of Nazi Rule
Looking back over the period of Nazi rule, this much can be said with a measure of certainty: German
society as a whole did not oppose the regime s anti Jewish initiatives. It is hard to believe that a whole
society for the most part could be influenced by one man and his rule. Hitler was a very charismatic
man who influenced thousands of Germans against their fellow German Jews. Many were friends,
neighbors, some could have even been family by marriage. The anti semitism took over the society
suddenly, laws were created against the Jews. Soon enough the anti semitism spread throughout
Europe. One may ask the question How can one man turn a whole nation against their own people?

of some kind of light that would help them throughout this terrible time. Hitler created scapegoats for

Educating Rita Metamorphosis
The Portrayal of Metamorphosis in Educating Rita by Willy Russell
In this essay, I am going to discuss the portrayal of metamorphosis in Willy Russell s Educating Rita.
I am going to write about how the play s two round characters, Frank and Rita, change their attitudes,
confidence, lifestyle, appearance and their overall look on life throughout the course of the play. To do
this, I will analyse Frank and Rita at the start of the play and then go on to comment on how they
change from the beginning to the end of the play.
The writer who wrote this brilliant play is called Willy Russell. He was born in 1947 in Liverpool and

It could be considered that the writer of the play tries to show his own metamorphosis through the
character of Rita. He successfully shows how he and Rita both came from a deprived background and
changed their lives dramatically with hard work and determination.
At the beginning of Educating Rita, we see Rita as a very forthcoming and lively person. This is

Social Causes Of The American Revolution
Through an examination of the social, cultural, economic and political causes of the American
Revolution, an exploration of key arguments both for and against the American Revolution, and an
analysis of the social, cultural, economic and political changes brought about by the American
Revolution it can be demonstrated unequivocally that the American Revolution was indeed truly
revolutionary.
By the time of the late 18th century, the colonies had grown socially, culturally, economically, and
politically setting the mood for a majority of the colonists to want to break ties with the mother
country. The colonies were well established, growing rapidly with new settlers arriving, and had
begun to interact and socialize with not only each other, but also the Indians and the French, with
whom they shared the new lands. These newfound social and cultural interactions allowed the
colonies to grow economically giving the colonists a sense of importance. The lack of recognition by
parliament started to plant the seeds for the revolution.
In the years leading up to the American Revolution, important economic changes took place within the
colonies as their economies transitioned from the previous subsistence farming and subsistence living
type of economies into true consumer economies. This shift toward a true consumerism society in the
colonies, also known as Anglicizing the colonies, began to make the colonies more uniform and began
to bring the colonies together into more of a

Explain Why The Period Of Home Rule Is Significant In The...
1. Explain why the period of Home Rule is significant in the context of both colonial identity and self
governance:
Home rule is defined as the government of a colony, dependent country, or region by its own citizens.
This definition explains that the colonists felt like they were left to rule their own government while
trying to separate from British ruling. Home Rule was significant in colonial identity because the
colonists were able to develop their own identity away from the British which made them a stronger
force to be reckoned with. The colonists used their newfound identity when they finally declared
independence from the British to establish the basis of the United States of America.
While the colonists were establishing their own identities, they were also gaining useful experience in
self governance, which proved to be useful with their declaration of independence from the British.
The colonists learned how to handle local issues through self governance and were able to
successfully remove themselves from Parliament and run their own democracy. I believe with their
experience in self governance, the colonists learned what worked best for their needs and what didn t
help them at all, eventually putting that knowledge into effect in their ... Show more content on

House Of Sand And Fog And The American Dream
To many people, the United States is more than just a country; it s a place of ideals. To some, those
ideals are liberty and freedom. To others, the American Dream is democracy and unity between all
people. Many people, especially immigrants, see the many opportunities that America offers as its
greatest ideal. House of Sand and Fog, by Andre Dubus III, focuses extensively on economic
opportunity, telling the tale of former Iranian Colonel, Massoud Behrani. Behrani hopes to strike it
rich in the real estate market with a home he bought, so he can work towards restoring his family s
honor. Sadly, his dreams fall flat and his entire family ends up dead. Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and
Sweet, by Jamie Ford, is about social opportunity America can offer. A young Chinese boy named
Henry Lee becomes good friends with a Japanese girl named Keiko during World War II, despite that
their people have long been enemies. When the government sends Keiko and her family away to an
internment camp, Henry is separated from perhaps his only friend. Both House of Sand and Fog and
Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet discuss the opportunities that America offers, and how
sometimes these opportunities fail people. Most people would see the American Dream as the ability
to chase economic success, and Colonel Behrani is no different. Behrani is not a very kind or likable
person, but in the end, he just wants to restore the wealth and social status that he once had by selling

At least in mice it does. In this issue of Blood, Machlus et al investigated the effects of high fibrinogen
levels using a combination of murine models of thrombosis and in vitro studies, to show that high
fibrinogen leads to increased formation of thrombi that are more resistant to proteolytic degradation.1
These findings are important because it has long been debated whether elevated fibrinogen causes
thrombosis or not. There are clearly a number of mechanisms by which higher levels of fibrinogen
could cause thrombosis, including increased blood viscosity, increased fiber density of the fibrin clot,
increased resistance of the fibrin clot to fibrinolysis, and altered mechanical properties of the fibrin
clot (see figure). While clinical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Fibrin is the main structural component of the thrombus. The conversion of fibrinogen to fibrin by
thrombin leads to one of the most remarkable processes in biology in which fibrin spontaneously
forms a gel by producing fibers that grow longitudinally as well as laterally, with branch points
forming and interconnecting the fibers leading to the formation of a 3 dimensional network that binds
platelets and traps other blood cells. Even after the gel point, the architecture of the fibrin network can
change quite dramatically.7 Other plasma proteins such as factor XIII, α2 antiplasmin, and fibronectin
interact with the fibrin and alter its structural and functional properties. Once the fully organized
thrombus is formed, its life span is determined by the resistance of the fibrin clot to proteolysis by
plasmin. The generation of plasmin from plasminogen by tissue plasminogen activator is enhanced by
the presence of fibrin, particularly after partial degradation by plasmin. The structure of the fibrin clot
has been reported to significantly modulate both the rate of proteolysis of fibrin by plasmin as well as
the rate of plasmin formation.8 Two previous murine in vivo studies point to an

life seems to be closely related to many of the situations and characters in the lives of the female
characters she writes about in her novels. Jane was also persuaded by her father and a female mentor
to not to love a man because they believed he could not provide for her financially and he was not of a

Primates Essay
As humans we try to view our origin as species and it is important for us to understand how we
evolved through time. Anthropologists study primates so much because primates have the most similar
characteristics to humans, allowing us to learn more about our past. There are a few methods that
Primatologists use to make their research relevant to anthropology: field study, laboratory study, and
semi free ranging. Field studying is done in nature, where scientists study primates in their natural

Introduction Meli Marine is a Singapore based marine transport company which now has an
opportunity to purchase 16 vessels from Teeh Sah company to enter Asia North America shipping
market. The CEO of Meli Marine is wondering whether the move is right for the development of
company. Some questions are designed to help him to make proper decisions. Besides, reasons in
terms of the questions are justified in the following. Critical questions 1.Why the vessels price that
Teeh Sah gives is considered to be attractive ? 2.As intra Asia and Asia North America shipping
business is busy, What kind of port is suitable for vessels to dock? 3.What counter strategy can Meli
Marine use to avoid the risk of increasing fuels price? 4.Why Meli Marine choose to deepen its vessel
operations rather than developing the container shipping value chain? 5.In order to maintain the profit
margin, what kind of actions can Meli adopt? Justification and discussion of relative effectiveness of
critical questions 1.This question aims to identify the underlying assumption and consider whether it is
really acceptable. People intend to estimate or assess before making decision, which may result in
estimating and forecasting traps.(Hammond, Keeney and Raiffa 1998)If seller gives price lower than
buyer s expectation, it is easy to be considered as a favorable price, regardless of the original price.

everyone for their support and love. She tells why she is appreciative of them as a whole. However,
she then turns and addresses to just her mother and father for their unconditional love. She then

Don Giovanni Research Paper
A hero is commonly defined by actions which help and aid others. Notable heroes sacrifice their own
wants for the greater good of others, act courageously, and break the norm. The infamous Don
Giovanni in Mozart s Don Giovanni does not fit the conventional idea of a hero. Although he acts with
courage in odd circumstances and appears to adapt radical Enlightenment values, he does not act in
the interest of others. As an 18th century womanizer, or libertine, all sacrifices made by Giovanni
throughout the plot are to serve his own impulses. Therefore, Don Giovanni is a character that is more
equivalent to a stubborn child than a moral hero.
Don Giovanni s classification as a libertine highlights reasons why he cannot be heroic. A libertine, by

Leporello is the closest friend to Giovanni that the plot reveals. When Donna Anna confront
Leoporello distraught over how Giovanni left her he consoles her by saying, Oh, let him go. He doesn
t deserve to be worried over. and then continues to list the absurd amount of names Giovanni has won
. Donna Anna reacts with a candid line stating, These are the tricks the villain has used to betray me; is
this the reward the barbarian returns for my love? . This remark by Donna Anna is an accurate
portrayal of her frustration with his actions. The comedy of Leoporello s Catalogue Aria is not what
many would consider the admirable description of a hero. Behind Giovanni s back, the jokes about his
extensive history are not done so with admiration. Instead, the comedy enhances the absurdity and
childlike obsession within his

The Last Day Of Skiing
As thin air encloses me as I inaugurate the last day of skiing at Breckenridge, Colorado. Three days of
skiing cease rather painlessly; I stumble oftenly but an evening on the couch next to a crackling wood
fire soothes my minor aches. Closing times nudges on the final day of our weekend trip as I prepare
for my ultimate run of the vacation. Fresh off the ski lift, I glide towards the junction of the trials
unoccupied skilled face of the mountain. I detach my boots from my ski s and rest them on my
shoulder, climbing up the rim of the mountain while the wind sways me back and forth, reaching the
top, clicking my skis back on. After a moment of deliberating, I fearlessly select a narrow path so
steep that the only way can be seen from my viewpoint.
All alone, I glance downhill and advance towards a dangerous region on the mountain. Suddenly, my
legs chatter violently, as my skis scrape against the frozen patches that disperse the area.
I already knew that the trail will be empty for quite awhile, I said.
After overcompensating from the fall. I take my left glove off and inspect what damage has this done
to me, the heavy drift blows my glove away from me.
Noooo, no, I said.
I stand up and detach my right ski, then scramble the icy slope that flanks the trail in search for my
missing glove. Upon returning to stance of my missing glove, I re enter the steep slope. I put on my
glove and slowly slide down the slope putting my ski back on. I suddenly hear rumblings followed

Education vs Prison Funding
Final research paper on Education vs. Prison Funding
The government is responsible for security of its citizens and it is also responsible to provide a safe
socio economic environment to its people, and in this context; Jails and schools are two important
institutions of any society, which need regular monetary support from the government. Thus
government has to be very careful in allocating funds to both of the institutions; as one punishes the
convicts and other makes the people skillful, and wise enough to get a job and earn money for family.
Government has to be very careful in allocation of funds to them, as it is very critical to decide which
institution should be allocated more money. The report, Prison Spending Affecting Higher ... Show

It also mentions that in past 30 years the population of the country increased by only 33 percent,
however the number of prisoners increased by around 350 percent. With this data we can assume the
amount of funding required for the functioning of jails. Prisoners are seen as potential threat for the
society; government spends billions annually to keep criminals in jails, to supervise those on parole
and probation. Though the prisoners are also human beings and deserve basic comforts of life in jail
too; but, it is also necessary for the government to instill fear of prison in minds of all the people and it
is not possible when prisoners enjoy the comfort in prisons. Jails should be dreadful for criminals and
this fear should work as a deterrent to commit crime, but studies have revealed that fear of prison is
not a successful deterrent for major part of prison population. Sometimes they don t have an option
but to commit crime, as many of them are not educated enough to get a decent job and earn money; so
they resort to crime to earn a living. A report titled. Education and Correctional Populations suggests
that it can only be stopped, if prisoners are provided education to make them skillful, and instead of
spending money on gyms and other recreational things for prisoners, jails should spend money on
making a good library and providing technical education to prisoners, so they

This can be achieved by product line (menu options) extension or by entering international market outside the American continent so as to increase their geographical coverage. In addition, Panera has an opportunity to get additional market and growth by adapting rapidly to changing market and customer preferences. They need to advertise and market themselves as a healthy option for eating out. Health oriented food or food that are low in calories, sugar, cholesterol, etc. is getting very important as people started becoming very health conscious and selective. Their effort to roll out new products with fresher ingredients such as antibiotic free chicken needs to be further expanded. Recognizing the health risks associated with transfat, Panera had completely removed all transfat from its menu by 2006. Organic food, non GMO, etc. They could increase number of their franchises. My learnings began as soon as I boarded the plane for my non stop flight to Munich on the German based Lufthansa airlines. The experience on a German based carrier was unlike anything I had experienced on the American based airlines I had flown in the past. The crew were incredibly hospitable and made sure that everyone was taken care of from take off to landing. Everything on the flight was included, entertainment, on demand movies, full hot meals and beverages. Even though I was flying coach in a small seat with limited space, the German airline really made me feel like a valued customer. This kind of hospitality continued ... With the government taking in these tax dollars the German government spends approximately 44.3% of the GDP. Most importantly Germany s budget currently enjoys a surplus. (http://www.heritage.org/index/country/germany). This is in sharp contrast to the United States which has one of the highest corporate tax rates, currently topping out at 35%, while the United States only spends 39% of the GDP. (http://www.heritage.org/index/country/unitedstates) This comparison puts clearly into focus why this is such a major point of interest in the current election. It appears that the cost of being in business in Germany is less than the United States and therefore makes them more competitive. I have seen this to be true in the amount of United States companies that have tried to relocate their headquarters to European countries to enjoy the corporate tax advantages. • 4. Inspired By Author, Harriet Beecher, Sarah Orne Jewett... Sarah Orne Jewett began writing at an early age as she was inspired by, The Pearl of Orr s Island written by Harriet Beecher Stowe. Jewett began writing in the style of the author of her inspiration and thus fell in love with the style of writing that encapsulated nearly every author of her time, local color writing. Local color writing is a style of writing that became popular just after the Civil War. Many writers began writing with a focus on the way of life and nature in their direct surrounding areas and regions. As mentioned by The Norton Anthology: American Literature Volume 2, local color writing embodies the depiction of, ...the topographies, people, speech patterns, and modes of life of the nation s distinctive regions (412). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Each of these individually would not make up color writing but once they are all pieced together they create an environment so familiar to Jewett and those who know the coast of Maine well. Jewett writes the story as if the land is capable of enchantment and the reader gets that feel with each description of the land. This too is a crucial aspect of local color, specifically when it comes to satisfying the topography category. While each description of the land may not entirely be specific to Maine, it is their author that constructs such a combination that the land comes alive and is a crucial piece of the story just as crucial as the characters themselves. The characters in A White Heron are not entirely specific to Maine, but their speech patterns as well as their way of life are for sure. The first example of how the characters add to the local color of the story is when the ornithologist first meets Sylvia. The stranger first met Sylvia out in nature while Sylvia was walking with her grandmother s cow. The stranger was not in a place that he knew well and asked Sylvia about where the road is. Sylvia helped the stranger because he had lost his way. This is a great example of how A White Heron is local color writing. Sylvia represents her region of Maine and the stranger is just a representation of people from outside of the Maine region that Sylvia hails from. • 6. The War Soviet Expansion Of The United States Introduction In 1976, with the election of Georgia governor and Washington outsider Jimmy Carter to the Presidency, the American people could expect that a change was going to come and they were right. After years of military action attempting to stop Cold War Soviet expansion, first in Vietnam under Presidents Kennedy, Johnson and Nixon, followed by the quick and possibly unnecessary bombing of Cambodia by President Ford in response to seizure of the U.S. freighter Mayaguez (History.com, 2016), Americans were war weary. Thus they welcomed the affable Southern peanut farmer who promised a foreign policy based on high moral principles and regard for human rights. Indeed, Carter set the tone with the following statement, during the first year of his (only) term: For too many years, we ve been willing to adopt the flawed and erroneous principles and tactics of our adversaries, sometimes abandoning our own values for theirs. We ve fought fire with fire, never thinking that fire is sometimes best quenched with water. This approach failed, with Vietnam the best example of its intellectual and moral poverty. But through failure we have now found our way back to our own principles and values, and we have regained our lost confidence. (Department of State, 2016). Simply being able to recognize these names proves some knowledge on the subject of the Spanish Civil War, lasting from 1936 to 1939. For those who are unsure as to what qualifies as a civil war, dictionary.com defines it as, a war between parties, factions, or inhabitants of different regions within the same nation . In the case of the Spanish Civil War, the fight was between the Spanish republican government and the Nationalist military. Representative of the impeding power struggle between extremists in support of fascism and communism, the war began on July 18th, 1936 as an uprising by several Spanish officers. This uprising would spark the three year Spanish civil war that ultimately resulted in a 40 year dictatorship. The left wing was referred to as the loyalists and the republicans. The groups that supported and comprised the republican cause were workers, peasants and trade unions, the Spanish government, and the three factions, the socialists, communists, and anarchists. The Negative Effects Of The Media On The Women s Body Image The increasing and widespread use of media, as well as it tremendous ability to influence its audience, has raised various concerns over the effects the media has on its viewers. One of the fields of increasing concerns is the idea that the media portrays unrealistic body images and that these portrayals have negative consequences on their viewers, especially so for women. Women have always been associated with ideals of beauty and a particular body image. The question arises as to how far the media further perpetuate these models and body images, and what are the consequences of these effects? When the media works to perpetuate such ideals of beauty and body image, the majority of the female population, who do not conform to such ideals and body type, fall prey to psychological issues resulting from body dissatisfaction such as depression, self hate, negative moods, and emotions, particularly for the younger women. Such negative emotions, when evoked, can lead to negative consequences and actions for the affected female population, which include drastic, harmful steps such as crash diets, self harm, or cosmetic surgery. Effects of Media on the Women s Body Image Many studies have been based on the concerning effects of media portrayals of beauty and body images on women. Yamammiya et al. • 15. The Rights Of The United States Of America Essay I am advocating for ending the One Person, One Vote method of voting on referendums and for candidates that is currently employed in the United States of America. The One Person, One Vote strategy, henceforth referred to as 1p1v, has several key flaws that have made it an unfair and often inefficient method of deciding what the best decision with the largest net social product, or who the candidate most intensely supported by constituents, truly is. Making collective decisions based on majority rule is an idea as old as democracy, and in theory, it seems like the right idea. The idea of proportional and equal voting just seems, fair, doesn t it? However, the issue with majority rule is that the majority can completely disregard the justifiable and well founded interests of the minority. This problem is known as Tyranny of the majority . The current 1p1v system that we have in place has proven to allow the tyranny of the majority to take place from issues as petty as marijuana legalization, to incredibly important issues like same sex marriage. The 1p1v system fails to give proportional weight to those with greater interest in an issue, leading to inequality. But if the 1p1v system does not work, and the entire voting system must be restructured to ensure fairness and equality, where do we go from here? • 16. An Analysis Of Ellen Hopkins s You Know My Story The poem, You Know My Story , is an excerpt from a larger poem, and novel, called Glass by Ellen Hopkins. The book is the second book in a series of three describing the rollercoaster life of Kristina Georgia Snow while on drugs. The free verse poetry books were very largely inspired by Hopkins daughter s own drug addiction (Goodreads). Her daughter, Cristal was very much like Kristina from the story. She became addicted to the same drug as Kristina and even had a child that was later adopted by Hopkins, just like the character from the story (Hopkins). The poem is written in a very interesting way. If someone were to read the poem straight across as literature is meant to be read, the poem would be very descriptive and tell a short story on just one page. But with many of Hopkins works, if the poem is read just using the stand alone words or phrases on the right, a new poem is born. This new poem is a much creepier summary of the larger poem. In this case the new poem reads, my dive into insanity, no longer perfect, Kristina became the monster (Hopkins). The entire poem has a very dark mood. It has very deep traces of helplessness and a misplaced self identity for the narrator. The tone shifts a few times, but throughout it shares the same darkness of the mood. First there is anger, then sadness and, finally complete vulnerability. Any piece of literature that talks about an addict of any sort, tends to be very dark and depressing. This poem is no exception to that idea. If a person was new to the works of Ellen Hopkins, they might not be aware of the fact that her books are poetry. The free verse style lends itself well to the writing of a novel, but it is not the type of rhyming poetry that most people are used to. It seems more like a book than a poem at first, yet if reread the poetic nature is made more noticeable. Hopkins has stated that she doesn t plan out her books beforehand because her poetry has to flow naturally and too much planning messes with the natural flow of things (Hopkins). There is no discernable rhythm or rhyme scheme to this poem. That holds true for most free verse poems. • 26. The Beauty of Adam and Eve In a world bombarded with technology and constant distractions, society often forgets the importance and beauty of art. A branch of art, literature, lends a tremendous impact upon society. Marjorie Pickthall constructs an elegant poem, Adam and Eve, while reinterpreting the well known Biblical story, Adam and Eve. Similar to Pickthall, a renaissance artist, Masaccio, however, interprets the Biblical story of Adam and Eve with a different interpretation. In his painting, the expulsion of Eden, he focuses on Adam and Eve s reaction while leaving the Garden of Eden. Although Pickthal and Masaccio have different prescripts of the story of Adam and Eve, both adopt the same plot. While arriving in the perfect garden of Eden, Eve is suddenly attracted to the forbidden fruit. Beguiled by the serpent , Eve eats the fruit, passing it on to her husband, and is then banished, along with Adam, from the Garden of Eden. Because Pickthall uses artistic license and a rhyme scheme, she constructs a poem, indirectly relating to Masaccio s painting, the expulsion of Eden, and directly relating to the bible. Due to Pickthall s usage of artistic license in her poem,a new meaning arises in relation to the Bible. The major instance of artistic license in Adam and Eve, the location in which the whole story takes place in, The Garden of Eden, changes to Beauty . The first stanza describes, gracefully, Eve s first interaction with the tree of knowledge, In the clear silence Beauty found them ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Social Causes Of The American Revolution Through an examination of the social, cultural, economic and political causes of the American Revolution, an exploration of key arguments both for and against the American Revolution, and an analysis of the social, cultural, economic and political changes brought about by the American Revolution it can be demonstrated unequivocally that the American Revolution was indeed truly revolutionary. By the time of the late 18th century, the colonies had grown socially, culturally, economically, and politically setting the mood for a majority of the colonists to want to break ties with the mother country. The colonies were well established, growing rapidly with new settlers arriving, and had begun to interact and socialize with not only each other, but also the Indians and the French, with whom they shared the new lands. These newfound social and cultural interactions allowed the colonies to grow economically giving the colonists a sense of importance. The lack of recognition by parliament started to plant the seeds for the revolution. In the years leading up to the American Revolution, important economic changes took place within the colonies as their economies transitioned from the previous subsistence farming and subsistence living type of economies into true consumer economies. Explain why the period of Home Rule is significant in the context of both colonial identity and self governance: Home rule is defined as the government of a colony, dependent country, or region by its own citizens. This definition explains that the colonists felt like they were left to rule their own government while trying to separate from British ruling. Home Rule was significant in colonial identity because the colonists were able to develop their own identity away from the British which made them a stronger force to be reckoned with. The colonists used their newfound identity when they finally declared independence from the British to establish the basis of the United States of America. While the colonists were establishing their own identities, they were also gaining useful experience in self governance, which proved to be useful with their declaration of independence from the British. The colonists learned how to handle local issues through self governance and were able to successfully remove themselves from Parliament and run their own democracy. I believe with their experience in self governance, the colonists learned what worked best for their needs and what didn t help them at all, eventually putting that knowledge into effect in their ... To others, the American Dream is democracy and unity between all people. Many people, especially immigrants, see the many opportunities that America offers as its greatest ideal. In this issue of Blood, Machlus et al investigated the effects of high fibrinogen levels using a combination of murine models of thrombosis and in vitro studies, to show that high fibrinogen leads to increased formation of thrombi that are more resistant to proteolytic degradation.1 These findings are important because it has long been debated whether elevated fibrinogen causes thrombosis or not. There are clearly a number of mechanisms by which higher levels of fibrinogen could cause thrombosis, including increased blood viscosity, increased fiber density of the fibrin clot, increased resistance of the fibrin clot to fibrinolysis, and altered mechanical properties of the fibrin clot (see figure). While clinical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Fibrin is the main structural component of the thrombus. The conversion of fibrinogen to fibrin by thrombin leads to one of the most remarkable processes in biology in which fibrin spontaneously forms a gel by producing fibers that grow longitudinally as well as laterally, with branch points forming and interconnecting the fibers leading to the formation of a 3 dimensional network that binds platelets and traps other blood cells. Even after the gel point, the architecture of the fibrin network can change quite dramatically.7 Other plasma proteins such as factor XIII, α2 antiplasmin, and fibronectin interact with the fibrin and alter its structural and functional properties. Once the fully organized thrombus is formed, its life span is determined by the resistance of the fibrin clot to proteolysis by plasmin. The generation of plasmin from plasminogen by tissue plasminogen activator is enhanced by the presence of fibrin, particularly after partial degradation by plasmin. The structure of the fibrin clot has been reported to significantly modulate both the rate of proteolysis of fibrin by plasmin as well as the rate of plasmin formation.8 Two previous murine in vivo studies point to an ...
