The Trench Monologue
Click. The tape recorder started up.
It was dirty that s for sure. The rats ate at your toes and the smell was horrible.
Ed paused and wiped a tear from his eye, staring right across the table at his grandson, who preceded
to ask the age old question.
What really happened that day Grandad?
The grey sky hung close to 16 year old Ed and the other soldiers as they stood, lined up in the trench.
Rain poured heavily over their helmets, draining into the mud. The French sun hid hazily in the smog
covered sky. THUD THUD THUD, cannons pounded shells through the air, towards the Germans.
Get ready men! shouted the commander.
Next to Ed, a man named John loaded his rifle.
You ready Ed? he whispered.
Ed nodded.
The silence through the trench was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It seemed like ages before he was free. He ran back towards the British line, expecting at any moment
to feel a bullet rip through him. Then, out of the blue, a single shot rumbled across the dormant
battlefield. Ed spun around just in time to see the German commander s pistol smoking. The machine
gunner who had spared his life was slumped over, motionless.
Moonlight flooded into the trench as the patrol officers found Ed curled up in a ball, weeping.
What is your name son?
Ed Aarons, sir, he said, looking up.
I can t believe you re still alive! Your family is worried sick about you, back in England. You will be
sent back immediately! This is an outrage! I m very sorry, very sorry indeed.
When I got back home, I expected to be bullied by my family, like before. But it was quite the
opposite. They were proud of me for surviving the war. I gave John s letter to his mother; it was a
horrible experience to say the least. The whole thing is just senseless, killing each other. I hope no one
else ever has to experience the things I saw. To this day, I feel like my soul is still there on that
battlefield, twisting around in the barbed

Comparing Mariana And The Lady Of Shalott
The poetry written during the Industrial Revolution reflects the mentality of 19th century British
citizens with anxious, questioning tones, and the desire for returning to simpler times with romantic
ideals. Both Mariana and The Lady of Shalott evoke questions about the place for women during the
Industrial Revolution because Lord Alfred Tennyson characterizes both female characters as
vulnerable in the absence of a man. The portrayal of the characters Mariana and The Lady of Shalott
as weak is evident in the settings of each poem because they reside in trapped and abandoned spaces,
are easily controlled by their surroundings, and the dark and lightless worlds they both live in without
a man. Exploring how the troubling settings mirror ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To illustrate their importance in relation to women s lives, men are depicted as the essence of light
within Victorian poetry, and in their absence women are forced to live in dejected shadows. Mariana is
completely devoid of any light within her life and constantly laments, [m]y life is dreary ( Mariana 9)
with her only scenery being an overgrown garden and a treeless expanse which she calls level waste,
the rounding gray (44). Mariana lives a dismal life because she is eternally waiting for her lover and
thus lives in a world of rounding gray . Even when light trickles in to her decrepit house, she loathed
the hour/ [w]hen the thick moated sunbeam lay (77 78) because it reminds her that even when there is
light, it is not pure like her love, it is polluted by dust and particles because nothing can be perfect or
enjoyable when she is alone. The fleeting moments of positivity in Mariana s life are unrecognized
because she does not have a man to share them with. The Lady of Shalott reveals comparisons
between the protagonist s four gray walls (15) and the bedazzling love interest Lancelot who appears
as he rode down to Camelot;/ [a]s often through the purple night,/ [b]elow the starry clusters bright,/

Analysis Of Harley Davidson s Life
Summary of analysis and recommendations.
Harley Davidson has been operating as a U.S. motorcycle manufacturer since 1903. Throughout its
life, it has been through many hardships, but just as many successes. Throughout the 1970s and 1980s
Harley Davidson experienced tremendous difficulties and almost went bankrupt in 1985. To its
dismay, in the 1990s Harley Davidson experienced several years of record growth and was ranked in
1990 by BusinessWeek as one of the top U.S. companies with a market value of $515 million. As a
sign of their success, they remain the only U.S. motorcycle manufacturer still in business. Harley
Davidson has competed in the U.S. and international markets against 140 other manufacturers, most of
which were larger and far better financed then they were. In 1985, Harley Davidson was emerging
from its hardships and growing as one of the top five motorcycle manufacturers in U.S. market shares,
while also having 31% of its sales coming from overseas. Its international sales were increasing as
they had partnered with a European parts warehouse in Germany and a joint venture in Japan. In
addition to these relationships, it had also partnered with 851 U.S and international dealerships.
As a business, Harley Davidson focused on three major business segments 1) motorcycles and related
products; 2) transportation (both recreational and commercial); and 3) defense and other businesses. In
order to continue its success as a motorcycle manufacturer, the

Chaos In Lord Of The Flies Essay
The quote, Chaos is merely order waiting to be deciphered, by Jose Saramago, explains the
importance of keeping order in civilization. When order does not exist or is not enforced, civilization
begins to collapse or breaks down which, in turn, proceeds to ensue chaos. When Piggy discovers the
conch in the story, Lord of The Flies, by William Golding, he uses it to establish order on the island,
but when he dies order ceases to exist. The first line in the poem, In A Dark Time, is eerily similar to
the boys situation of order and civility on the island. When Piggy first observed the conch in the
beginning of the story he decided that they should use that conch to preserve order in the tribe. Piggy
explains to the group, We can use ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After Piggy s death the boys on the island could not be more divided. The boys had split into two
groups, Jack and his tribe and Ralph who is now alone due to Piggy s death. Dark, darker my light,
and darker my desire, (Stanza 3), as said by Roethke. The boys are only falling into deeper chaos on
the island, and are continuing to become more savage. Jack s desires, in particular, are becoming
darker because he proceeds to throw spears and hunt down Ralph after he had witnessed Piggy s
death. This is a great representation of how the boys are becoming more barbaric with the actions that
they are taking. At first the boys desires were to get rescued. However, now Jack is coming to the
realization that they will probably not be rescued and he wants to hunt down and kill Ralph. Jack starts
reinstating to the boys on the island that he is their leader. Piggy s death is the symbolization of the
breakdown of order and the beginning of disunity on the island. This breakdown of order is clearly
delineated in the book. Jack sees the chance to kill Ralph right after Piggy is killed because Ralph is
vulnerable, and alone against Jack and his tribe. Jack takes it upon himself to declare himself as the
leader, I m chief! (Page 181). Jack sees the opportunity to proclaim himself as leader of the boys after
Piggy dies and the conch is destroyed. Jack then proceeds to barrage Ralph with spears in an attempt
to kill him, Viciously, with full intention, he hurled the

Laura Solomon White Lotus
White Lotus by Laura Solomon utilizes symbolism to reveal how individuals should behave. Every
time Kerryn does an immoral action, the lotus reacts and starts to wilt. When Kerryn cheats, The
lecturer did not cotton on but the lotus knew. It shed three leaves and two buds lost their gloss and
began to droop (Solomon 3). The flower realizes Kerryn plagiarizes her essay for her English class
and thus it starts to droop as it does not approve of her actions. The lotus symbolizes serenity,
calmness, and purity, the exact opposite of Kerryn s actions. For instance, when Kerryn decides to
please the lotus by changing her behavior. Once she starts being nice to her boyfriend, The lotus was

Satire In The Importance Of Being Ernest
It s tone is that of satire, but of a satire which, for lack of a moral point of view, has lost its sting
(Edouard Roditi)
To what extent do you agree with this response to the play?
By Molly Campbell
With the definition of a satire being, the use of humour, irony, exaggeration, or ridicule to expose and
criticize people s stupidity , it is ludicrous to even propose that The Importance of Being Earnest is
anything other than a satirical play, as the characters relishing in the upper class of the Victorian
period unknowingly mock their own habits acquired to them due to the luxury they are spoilt with.
Despite this, it is evident that the use of satire is feckless and lacks a moral point of view, in contrast
with the moral ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Previous to Wilde s The Importance of Being Earnest, Victorian comedies consisted mostly of high
and low comedy and of dirty or vulgar jokes, dirty gestures, and sex . Hence, it is possible to suggest
that contradictory to Edouard Roditi s interpretation, the Importance of Being Earnest carries a moral
point of view in the fact it does not exploit sex or sexual preferences to effectuate drollery; Wilde
provokes laughter through mistaken identities and the consequences of bunburying perhaps to allude
that his opinions it that sexuality is not a laughing matter. Providing this interpretation is true, it is
acceptable to assume that the reasoning behind the negative criticisms the drama received when first
written were due to the fact critics felt appalled that a piece of writing could prove successful without
it consisting of any sexual nature and hence deemed The Importance of Being Earnest as, dull in
comparison to other plays read over the years . Howbeit, some critics state that the word earnest
became a code word for homosexual, as in: Is he earnest? , in the same way that Is he so? and Is he
musical? were also employed , suggesting that The Importance of Being Earnest is an expression of
Wilde s hatred for marriage and his fondness of homosexuality as he praises the idea of being Earnest

The Growth And Success Of Canadian Airline Westjet Essay
Roger Solis MNGT 370 Dr. Dilek Yunlu WestJet Case Analysis Introduction This article discusses the
growth and success of Canadian airline WestJet. The company was established in 1994 by Clive
Beddoes who stumbled upon an opportunity to collaborate with fellow businessmen: Tim Morgan,
Don Bell, and Mark Hill to create a cost effective and very profitable airline in western Canada.
Together they achieved a concept of an airline that would be low fare but rich in culture to maintain its
integrity. With the help of David Needleman, president of Morris Air, the team developed a business
plan and visualized what is now WestJet Airlines. They built an integrative, financial model and
business plan which included only three aircraft and features of being: direct, cost effective, and short
haul. Within 30 days of constructing a business plan the needed capital was raised and the foundation
for WestJet airlines kicked off. In 1995 WestJet was established and began rapidly integrating into
eastern Canada. Problem WestJet s quick success posed an issue because even though it was centered
on culture eventually its concept would fail; the airline was growing very quickly and that could only
mean that it would be difficult to maintain the intimate focus while staying extremely profitable.
Critical Analysis In 1999 many changes occurred within the Canadian market of aviation. There was
merging between successful and struggling airlines, and even airlines that failed relatively

The Threat Of The Cyber Threat
Since the onset of the first packet switching event that many believe to be beginning of the internet, no
other technology besides the printing press has ever transformed the ability to deliver information.
Although the internet is used by a large percentage of the civilized world, few Americans realize how
vital cyberspace is to our national infrastructure. Today, we are faced with even more threats although
it has been a recognized problem since 2009, when President Barrack Obama said The cyber threat is
one of the most serious economic and national security challenges we face as a nation. It s also clear
that we re not as prepared as we should be, as a government or as a country (Obama, 2009). Every
industry that operates in the United States is dependent on the internet for some aspect of their
business. Commerce, transportation, financial institutions, military, as well as industrial control
systems are all interconnected. This interconnectedness has created vulnerabilities within their
infrastructure that have increasingly become targets of terrorists, script kiddies, foreign governments
and hackers of all types. Cyber attacks against Sony Pictures brought the vulnerabilities of poor cyber
security policies to light. These attacks are nothing new but they appear to be getting more severe.
According to James Clapper, the director of national intelligence, Cyber threats to U.S. national and
economic security are increasing in frequency, scale, sophistication, and

Historical Perspective Of Renaissance Florence
Historiography
The scholars who have documented the history of Florence in the Italian Renaissance observes
Machiavelli in his Florentine Histories (Istorie fiorentine), tending to begin work there. The works of
Machiavelli and Guicciardini have been useful in the studies of Renaissance Florence, through the
direct translation of Latin, giving history from the view of these humanist historians of 15th century.
Other authors have focused on the works of Bruni, Bracciolini and Scala, as in a relatively modern
outlook to the study of Renaissance Florence has seen the difference in perspective of what occurred
in Renaissance Florence leading historians to take a deeper look at these humanist. Authors looking at
the historical perspective of Renaissance Florence tend outline the aspects of the past and present state
of studies in this field of the Renaissance and Renaissance Florence. In recent years, American
scholars have concentrated on the methods and ideas in history rather than the specific problems of
these Florentine information gaps. Historians within the modern study tend to only focus on the
primary sources within the region, rather than try to look outside the area for references to said events.
The tradition study of Florentine historiography tends to only focus questions asked and answered
about Bruni, Bracciolini and Scala. In Dr W s Book, he states historians tend to ask certain questions:
What interests and engages the author?; What is the substance of his

I m For An Early Night
The two of them played into the fading light and returned to Ángelita s inn. The cold and the awkward
conversation with the man dressed as a beggar had made them feel as tired as a pair of work horses at
dusk. I m for an early night, said Carolina. I could sleep, too, but I have to attend that meeting. And I
need to be as sharp as a razor. Let s just have a quiet snooze. You ll be brighter after a nap. The two of
them made their way to Carolina s room, cuddled up to each other, fully clothed, and fell asleep. They
were awoken by the neighing sound of a horse outside the inn. Time I went downstairs to this meeting.

Fearing trouble if he did not respond as told, Antonio took his violin from its case and struck up the
tune of To Amirillis . This was no random choice. He hoped the tune would smoke out the man
dressed as a beggar, if he were there, and sure enough... Thought you said you didn t know it! shouted
a disembodied voice from somewhere near the middle of the crowd, most of whom were on their feet.
The source gradually made his way to the front, pushing his way past about a dozen or so others as he
did so. Antonio hardly recognised him. The beggar had said as much. Gone were the pantaloons tied
with string, the chest exposing open shirt, the battered hat and bare feet. Now he was dressed in a new,
brown tricorne, a long black coat over black leather boots and a white shirt, decorated by a smart,
black silk tie. He d trimmed his ragged beard to a neat point and shaped his moustache to a rakish,
symmetrical upward curve on each side of his face. Antonio could smell the musky perfume on his
subtle umber wig which almost matched his darker, brown hair. No. It s just the words we don t know.
We know the tune well! smiled Antonio, wondering what the man s reaction would be and still unsure
as to what his exact position could be in this confusion of masculine sweat and untidiness. His
demeanour and countenance gave him an air of superiority over these other apparently inferior
individuals. I m so glad you could attend

The Miracle Worker ( 1962 ) Essay
Communication in The Miracle Worker (1962)
The basic communication concepts can be utilized to evaluate analyze the plotlines and character
relationships of many classic movies. In this paper, the 1962 version of The Miracle Worker is
discussed and analyzed in terms of these communication concepts. The movie revolves around the
story of Helen Keller, a seven year old girl who became deaf and blind after contracting an infection
during her infancy. In order to teach Helen how to communicate, her parents (Kate and Captain
Keller) hire a visually impaired schoolteacher by the name of Anne Sullivan. The film demonstrates
Helen s struggle to communicate with her parents and Anne and how Helen slowly begins to learn,
despite her disabilities. The concepts that I learned in class each helped me to see the movie from a
different perspective. The topics of conflict, perception, and non verbal communication make up the
majority of the film s plotline. Each one of these topics will be discussed in a paragraph about how it
was represented in the film. Throughout the course of the film, there were various conflicts that took
place between the main characters. The conflicts mainly occur between Anne and Helen and between
Kate and Captain Keller. Most of the time, the conflicts are started because of an overall frustration
trying to communicate with Helen. Conflicts can arise because of many different factors, but in this
case, these conflicts arise because of Helen s disabilities. In

Willy Loman Flashback
In Death of a Salesman, the past and present flow into one another seamlessly and simultaneously
because of Arthur Miller. Willy Loman s metal state is clearly evident to the audience. He has multiple
dreams (flashbacks) and sometime cannot distinguish the past and the present. Miller s manipulation
of time in his play, Death of a Salesman, creates an atmosphere that is effective as it mirrors Willy
Loman s mental state, thus allowing the audience to experience his mental instability and take a part in
it. Willy Loman s instability is shown when he reinvents the past in his flashbacks, cannot separate the
past from the reality of the present, and carries emotional burdens from the past.
The idyllic past that Willy recalls is one that he reinvents, and these flashbacks are not entirely true.
The idyllic past is a means of escape from the present reality for Willy. He searches for the mistake
that he made that frustrated his hopes for fame and fortune and destroyed his relationship with Biff. In

What Is The Conflict Of The Victorian Age
He Victorian age experienced a conflict between science and religion. The era found its orthodoxy
battered by movements of thoughts, like Positivism, Empiricism, Utilitarianism, Rationalism,
Liberalism and Marxism which assailed all honest minds with scepticism. There was the new Biblical
criticism and a spurt of scientific progress. They led the generation to secularization, agnosticism,
atheism and religious passivity.
Mostly, the writers of the age revolted against the deification of material progress. The poets were
perhaps the best interpreters of the age (Brett 18). They illustrated in their poems the religious temper,
its faith, doubts and conflicts of their time. The age these poets inherited was rather a fluid transitional

lacked was the dramatic power of the Elizabethans. Tennyson was the most representative poet of the
Victorian era (Joseph 305).
The progress of science had greatly influenced the temper of the age. Tennyson was conversant with
the concepts of geology, astrology and evolution, which contested and undermined the Biblical
beliefs, evoking crisis in faith. He was at once mystical and sceptical in his own temper, and so was fit
to become the spokesperson of the doubts and unbelief, and the quest for religious certainties of his

Analysis Of Fear And Loathing By Hunter S. Thompson

In the beginning, itself they got red convertible and bought lot of drugs to make their journey

about the presence of money to buy illegal drugs and get involved in illegal practices.

Blood Doping, Human Growth Hormones, Steroid, Beta 2 Agonists
Erythropoietin (EPO), blood doping, human growth hormones, steroid, beta 2 agonists. These are a
few substances that come into mind when discussing the topic performance enhancing drug also
known as doping. Doping is defined as the use of drugs to enhance performance and gain advantage
over the other competitors, and it has been an ongoing problem in the sport community since the early
centuries, with an increasing trend showing today. Envision yourself competing against an opponent
who has been doping! How would you feel about that? Would you feel cheated? I know I would. As
all the hard work, dedication, and effort I have put into my training has been reduce down to nothing.
Can you also imagine what doping would do to the integrity of sport! The intrinsic worth that make
sports so unique and important to society, such as the capability to challenge and push ourselves
beyond our own limits, the honesty and sportsmanship qualities athletes learn and gain. So, does
doping destroy the integrity of sport? Some may argue yes and some may say no for a few reasons that
will be examined further into the essay. However, my response would be yes , as I personally believe
those qualities that creates the uniqueness of sport would be eliminate when doping is involved. The
manipulation of performance enhancing drugs will impact the sporting community in an unnecessary
manner, by giving it an appalling reputation. This appalling reputation will develop as doping conveys

Ohio State University Research Paper
I have several plans in store for after high school. I plan on attending college to earn my masters or
doctorate degree in a medical field of study.I hope to attend one of the following colleges: Ohio State,
Michigan State, or UCLA. Ohio State is located in Columbus, Ohio, Michigan State is located in East
Lansing, Michigan, and UCLA is located Los Angeles, California. When looking at these three
colleges, I will be comparing overall fees, varsity sports, student population, the size of city where the
university is located, and the awards offered. Out of these three universities, I would prefer the Ohio
State University.
When I am looking for a college, I look at the total fees it takes to go to that college. Ohio State, on
the main campus and in state, annually costs $25,579. Ohio States total costs are lower than both
Michigan State and UCLA. Michigan State costs an average of $48,848 and UCLA costs $33, 391,
which is a difference of $13,000 and $8,000. Based on the prices given for each of the colleges I
would prefer to go to Ohio State because of the lower price per year. Also, depending on my final GPA

The Islamic State Of Iraq And Syria
Introduction In what has quickly evolved into a post Al Qaeda era in the Middle East, a new threat has
emerged from the ashes of the 2003 invasion of Iraq and later in the 2011 war in Syria. The Islamic
State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS, ISIL or Daesh) has rapidly become the most pressing foreign policy
concern in the Middle East for the United States. In the last four years, Daesh has gathered swaths of
territory in both Iraq and Syria, although it has been driven back thanks to coalition efforts to counter
the group. The coalition in place to combat ISIS has allowed the US to take a supporting role through
the use of airstrikes, military advising and intelligence sharing to the local forces on the ground.
However, major shortcomings ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With divisions becoming prevalent regarding the modus operandi for AQI, Abu Omar al Baghdadi
broke off from the group to form the Islamic State of Iraq (ISI). (Hashim 2014) While both the ISI and
AQI had similar interests in combating foreign intervention and developing an Islamic caliphate in the
region, the two groups sought two different means of achieving it. In Iraq in particular, Daesh was
bolstered by a new interim Iraqi government that was particularly repressive towards the Sunni
majority, which in turn drove disillusioned Sunnis towards the extremist group. Ultimately, ISI would
expand into Syria in 2010 and splinter off from the Al Qaeda affiliated group Al Nusra, forming the
Islamic State of Iraq and Syria. Since then it has expanded into parts of Jordan and Libya as well.
Current Strategy In the latest edition of the National Security Strategy, President Obama outlined his
primary objective in dealing with the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria. We [The US partners] are
leading a comprehensive counterterrorism strategy to degrade and ultimately defeat ISIL. At the same
time, we will continue to pursue a lasting political solution to the devastating conflict in Syria. (White

African Americ A Transformation For Blacks
During the years of 1860 1877 sacred improvements brought about a transformation for blacks. The
south was irritated at the Blacks since they had picked up their opportunity against the will of
numerous southern white men. African American had their opportunity again at the same time, they
needed to battle to pick up suffrage and social liberties. December 1865 imprints the most critical
crossroads in history for all African American in the United States of America. Black people was free
once more. They were free from bondage be that as it may, the excursion to discover their character
and to get themselves were restricted. After subjugation African American were upbeat to be free in
any case, they were all the while attempting to discover approaches to approaches to enhance their
lives and to make life less demanding for their kids. Most African American still worked for the
whites, the vast majority of them were poor and under educated. African American attempted in each
and every approach to regard white southerner with the expectation that they would receive the same
appreciation consequently and be dealt with similarly yet, history had taught us that African American
needed to battle for all that they needed, have and seek. The African American have had a great deal of

Sophocles The Plight Of Oedipus s Reign
The Plight of Oedipus s Reign In the famous playwright, Sophocles Oedipus the King , a Greek
tragedy which explores the idea of destiny, Oedipus is a tragic hero, who, in the exploration of his
troubled past, discovers the truth of actions that render him guilty of the heinous crimes of murder,
and incest. Although Oedipus was not privy to the truth behind his actions, it does not make these
crimes any less unlawful, or unethical, proving that Oedipus is guilty of the murder of his father,
Laius, and of having an incestuous relationship with his mother, Jocasta. In The Oedipus Complex ,
Sigmund Freud argues that mankind is weak, and impotent , constantly struggling to satisfy the will of
the gods and accept their own flaws. (Freud 1381).

Opposition To The Vietnam War
The Vietnam War was one of the least supported wars in American History. It faced an immense and
inexorable sum of social outcry that, while initially ignored, could not go completely unnoticed and
unacknowledged by the government. While the majority of American citizens supported the war, they
remained silent, most likely to protect themselves from the scrutiny of the minority that opposed the
war. This minority of Americans were opposed to the war for moral reasons. They argued that the war
was not any of the business of the united states and that it would be morally unjust to intervene
because the North Vietnamese were fighting a patriotic war to rid themselves of foreign aggressors.
that Innocent Vietnamese peasants were being killed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Amongst these reasons is the ineffectiveness of conventional military tactics, the overabundant loss of
American lives and the loss of both militant and civilian Vietnamese lives, as well as the
insurmountable opposition to the war itself. The most detrimental to the Vietnam War effort, however,
was indisputably the lack of public support for the war. A country can hardly fight a war without the
support of its people, let alone a war that requires an immense amount of resources and manpower. In
addition to this, no prolonged conflict can be maintained by a country without the support of its
people. The Vietnam War involved all of these elements. It was an intense conflict that required an
unprecedented amount of manpower as well as supplies to be maintained. It was also an incredibly
prolonged conflict that produced little to no progression and lacked any definitive goal to be
progressed toward. Due to the powerful opposition supplied by the Anti war Movement, civil leader,
such as Martin Luther King Jr., and the general disdain for the war on behalf of the American public,
especially later in the war, it became a necessity for the American government to retract from
Vietnam. Conclusively, the public opposition to the war was the largest and most impactful cause of
America s withdrawal from the Vietnam War, resulting in

Spanish Cuisine
The earliest settlers of Spain include the Iberians, the Celts, and the Basques groups. Then the
Phoenicians came, who were later followed by the Greeks, who ruled Spain until they were defeated

The Phoenicians arrived from the Mediterranean and brought their sauces to Spain. The Greeks gave

CHAPTER 3
MARKETING S ROLE IN HIGHER EDUCATION
3.1
INTRODUCTION
Chapter 2 introduced some of the major changes and trends that have taken place in the higher
education environment both internationally and locally. Although higher education institutions can be
classified as non profit organisations, the challenges discussed in Chapter 2 necessitate higher
education institutions to take on the organisation like behaviour of profit organisations and to become
more marketingoriented. An understanding of the environment in which higher education institutions

markets by using the tools of marketing: service product, place, price, promotion, process, people
and physical evidence.
Marketing s greater contribution lies in its ability to facilitate the exchange process that takes place
between the non profit organisation such as the higher education institution, and each of the customer
groups it addresses (Sargeant, 2005:295).
Marketing can provide a detailed understanding of the needs of such customers and ensure that the
institution addresses these needs in as efficient and comprehensive manner as possible. This
understanding of customers needs can aid organisations in creating and sustaining a competitive
advantage. Lynch and Baines (2004:171) found that higher education institutions sustainable
competitive advantages are usually based on superior knowledge, reputation, innovation or
architectural related advantages. However, marketing is not stagnant and over the years the marketing
activities of organisations have changed. Kolter (2003) and Strydom, Jooste and Cant (2000:10)
identify four stages that strongly influence the evolution of organisations marketing activities. These
stages are referred to as production, sales, marketing and societal marketing. The production

The Rule of Law, enforced by the courts, is the ultimate controlling factor on which our constitution is
based. Discuss.
The rule of law is one of the fundamental principles of UK s unwritten or uncodified constitution .The
key idea of the rule of law is that the law should apply equally to all, rulers and ruled alike. This in the
words of the 19 century constitution expert, A.V.Diecy ensures a government of law and not a
government of men . The alternative to the rule of law is there for arbitrary government. In this way,
the rule of law establishes the relationship between government and the people. AS John ... Show

The Law Is Always Applied
Disputes must be resolved by the application of the law rather than by other means. This means that
there must be a certainty of punishment for breaches of law law cannot apply in certain circumstances,
but not in others. By the same token, there should be punishment only for breaches of law people
should not be penalized except through the due process of law.
However, concerns have been expressed about the extent to which this principle applies in the UK; *
Not all crimes are reported and therefore legally addressed ( this applies, for instance, in the case of
most rapes) * As polices resources are limited many crimes are not detected ( for example , speeding
offences) * Trial by the media means that people may be punished without legal proceeding having
taken, or, perhaps, despite being acquitted.
4. Legal Redress Is Available Through The Courts
If people s rights have been infringed (whether by other citizens, organizations or the state,) they
should be able to protect themselves through the law. For many legal experts and a growing body of
senior judges this implies that the law should defend fundamental human rights .This is the aspect of
the rule of law that safeguards the individuals from the state.
However, concerns have been expressed about the extent to which this principle applies in the UK: *
There is no entrenched bill of right to protect fundamental human rights * The Human Rights

Lilies are often associated with death in Western culture, so the lily on the knight s forehead doesn t
bode well for him, so the speaker is employing a metaphor when he says that he see a lily on thy brow.
Besides the association with death, lilies are pale white, so a slightly less morbid reading of this line
would be that the knight isn t dying, but is just sickly pale. Another flower that is mentioned in the
poem is roses. Roses are often associated with love in Western culture (hence all the advertisements
around Valentine s Day), but the knight s rose is fading and withering. Sounds like a pretty clear
metaphor for the end of a romantic relationship. But like the lily, the rose describes the knight s
complexion. The rose is fading from the knight s cheeks. So the rose metaphor is doing double duty it
s describing both his fading love affair, and his increasingly pale complexion. In Porphyria s Lover the
speaker compares Porphyria s closed eyes to a closed flower bud with a bee inside. Is he afraid of
getting stung by her eyes when she opens them again? Or is it a sexual metaphor, since bees, after all,
pollinate flowers? Also the poet here uses alliteration (the repeated b sounds) that connects the bud
and the bee. The speaker also uses synecdoche by making Porphyria s blue eyes represent the whole

Public Sentiments Concerning Chinese Immigration Essay
Public Sentiments Concerning Chinese Immigration In 1852, there were over 20,000 Chinese
immigrants living in California (Franks). Americans reacted very negatively to this influx, and their
negative sentiments were made apparent in the California Supreme Court s People v. Hall verdict,
which rendered Chinese testimony unreliable. Then, in 1882, President Chester Arthur signed the
Chinese Exclusion Act, a law that prohibited Chinese laborers from entering the United States (Foner,

by smoking a cigar at his age he has been corrupted. This depiction shows the underlying perception
that the Chinese were an infestation that were negatively influencing and corrupting the population.
This perception of the Chinese as a menace is also apparent in the image Amusing the Child from The

The Brand Concept Of Brand Essay
In accordance with assorted definitions of brands, two approaches of defining a brand are derived. The
traditional one is a practical view which articulates a brand as a product identifier, including the
source of the product (Aaker, 99 ). According to him, a brand is a distinguishing name and/or symbol
which intended to identify the goods, services of either one seller or group of sellers and to
differentiate those goods or services from those of competitors . Another approach, as holistic view,
presents a brand as more than just the product (Styles Ambler, 995).
In order to understand the effect that the Brand Identity has on consumers, the consistency of identity
with the brand concept has to be emphasized through the company s strategic options. This will
facilitate the recognition and brand recall by consumers in an environment where there are multiple
competitive options (Sonnier and Ainslie, 20 ). The consistency of the brand concept must stand the
test of time, leading to the creation of an identity. There should be a consistent increase during a
prolonged period, the strategies for creating the concept of brand, to keep the connection between
identity and brand image (Chernatony and McDonald, 2003; Kapferer, 997; Keller, 993, 998; Aaker
and Joachimsthaler, 2000; Carrilat et. al., 20 ; Monga and John, 20 0; Batra et. al., 20 0; Janonis et. al.,

Copyright Holders And The Copyright
INTRODUCTION
Copyright holders are given a property right to their work according to section 1 of the Copyright,
Designs and Patents Act 1988 (CDPA 1988). Thus the right holders are given an exclusive right to
their work. Anyone who carries out an act, which is exclusive to the right holders, without obtaining
their permission prior to the act, infringes on the copyright holders proprietary rights.
A lot of people have been taking advantage of the internet for the commission of copyright

infringement, explains that it is a problem that not only undermines the business of the content
industry, but also ruins the ability of a generation of creative persons to earn a viable living . In their
quest for financial gain in respect of their work and the protection of their work, right holders have,
consequently turned against the internet service providers who serve as the middlemen, seeking to
hold them accountable for the infringement of the offenders using their networks to commit these

a floodgate of litigant wanting to enforce their right. Internet Service Providers were reluctant to
interfere with their subscribers access to website not until the recent epidemic, where right holders are

The “rightness” of Native American boarding school Essay
In the 1870s, the U.S. government enacted a policy of assimilation of Native Americans, to
Americanize them. Their goal was to turn them into white men. Schools were an important part of
facilitating their goal. In 1879, Richard Henry Pratt founded the Carlisle Indian School. It was the first
school in which Native American children were culturally exposed to American ideology. The idea for
the boarding school first came through treatment of Cheyenne warriors. In the 1860s, Americans were
in the midst of a major western migration. Settlers were moving into the western region, pushing
natives off lands, and in some cases, killing livestock. Warriors then took revenge on settlers and
soldiers. General Sherman called for the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Pratt then turned his attention to native children. He saw the example of the Hampton Institute for
Negroes, which taught children industrial skills. He concluded that to transform natives, one had to
start with the children. In 1879, the government consented to Pratt s request. He went to Dakota
Territory to find students for his new Carlisle Indian School in Pennsylvania. Pratt determined the
only way to change them was assimilation through total immersion. The school was established in an
abandoned army post. The children wore military uniforms and cut their hair. In the first few years, the
children suffered epidemics of cholera, influenza, and tuberculosis. As a result, they made a cemetery
on the school.
Lack of cultural diversity
Ethnocentrism
Social workers strive to keep the uniqueness of individuals and communities. The preservation of
diversity honors the distinctiveness of individuals and communities. Boarding schools were genocidal
to the cultural structure of Native Americans. They were forced to assimilate to the image of the white
man: It disjointed family structure, dishonored their cultural differences and language. Children placed
in these schools were deprived of learning their heritage. Pratt s goal of humanizing Native Americans
is the basis of ethnocentrism. Pratt like many Americans during this time believed American culture
was the only and right way of life. Although most cultures have, tendencies of

The KKK organized mass demonstrations to intimidate people they disliked. They persecuted Blacks,
Jews, Catholics, and for the most part, anyone who was of a foreign race. During this time period,

(Link, 80).
After the Second World War, American foreign policy was, for the most part, different then post World
War 1 foreign policy. As a result of the war, we decided that threats to peace and freedom elsewhere in
the world did affect us, that if we ignored serious trouble in the world it would probably eventually

The De Goya Y Lucientes
He is considered the most important artist in Spain during the late 18th and early 19th century and was
one of the most prominent and successful painters in Europe. Francisco Jose de Goya y Lucientes was
a romantic painter and printmaker whose style changed drastically throughout his life; he is
considered the last of the Old Masters and the first of the moderns. His style fits into the category of
Romanticism, which is most apparent in his paintings of the Spanish Royal family after becoming
First Painter to the King of Spain in 1786. Six years later, he suffered an awful illness which
ultimately left him deaf and shaped his future work. After Napoleon Bonaparte rose to prominence
during the French Revolution, Spain was invaded due to its political and strategic importance to the
French. Goya was able to capture the horrors he saw in his anti war works produced in paintings and
with intaglio prints which he didn t make public. The throne of Spain was taken by Joseph Bonaparte,
Napoleon s brother, who was backed by a large French military force. After the political situation in
Spain normalized and rule was returned to it s rightful heir, Goya returned to painting commissioned

Affects Of Weather On Deer Hunting
Effects of Weather on Deer Hunting Every year the fall brings in one of the biggest sports, hunting.
According to David Crook in his article How big is the Hunting Economy, there are about 13.7 million
people or approximately six percent of the United States population that consider themselves to be
hunters. When all of these people get up the morning of opening day there is one thing that affects the
way that they hunt. Every avid hunter knows that they have to base their hunting style off of the
weather. The different factors of the weather such as the temperature, wind speed, barometric pressure,
and precipitation changes the way the deer move and can either make or break a deer hunter s season.
The movement of a whitetail deer changes according to the weather. There are several different factors
to consider when talking about the weather, but the one of the leading factors is the temperature. Some
people believe that the colder it is outside, the better the hunting becomes. This is true until it gets so
cold that the deer have to bed down and not move to stay warm. When the temperature begins to drop
down to about 35 degrees Fahrenheit, the deer begin scrambling for food to prepare for winter and the
rut. The rut is a deer s mating season. This has the deer at a constant movement and makes for prime
hunting. When the temperature begins to change, the amount of movement of the deer begins to
change also. If the temperature rises then the amount of a deer s movement

There are 8 maritime academies that are pumping out 800 Third Officers and Third Assistant
Engineers every year. These new junior officers that end up sailing will eventually require attending
the courses we will be providing. Now, they are creating Junior Supply Officer(s), which I intend to

There are various Gun Ranges to support Small Arms Training, which is a high demand course

this business plan is not about one course; it s about two dozen courses we can start without having to

  • 2. The Trench Monologue Click. The tape recorder started up. It was dirty that s for sure. The rats ate at your toes and the smell was horrible. Ed paused and wiped a tear from his eye, staring right across the table at his grandson, who preceded to ask the age old question. What really happened that day Grandad? The grey sky hung close to 16 year old Ed and the other soldiers as they stood, lined up in the trench. Rain poured heavily over their helmets, draining into the mud. The French sun hid hazily in the smog covered sky. He ran back towards the British line, expecting at any moment to feel a bullet rip through him. Then, out of the blue, a single shot rumbled across the dormant battlefield. Ed spun around just in time to see the German commander s pistol smoking. The machine gunner who had spared his life was slumped over, motionless. Moonlight flooded into the trench as the patrol officers found Ed curled up in a ball, weeping. What is your name son? Ed Aarons, sir, he said, looking up. I can t believe you re still alive! Your family is worried sick about you, back in England. You will be sent back immediately! This is an outrage! I m very sorry, very sorry indeed. When I got back home, I expected to be bullied by my family, like before. But it was quite the opposite. They were proud of me for surviving the war. I gave John s letter to his mother; it was a horrible experience to say the least. The whole thing is just senseless, killing each other. I hope no one else ever has to experience the things I saw. To this day, I feel like my soul is still there on that battlefield, twisting around in the barbed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Comparing Mariana And The Lady Of Shalott The poetry written during the Industrial Revolution reflects the mentality of 19th century British citizens with anxious, questioning tones, and the desire for returning to simpler times with romantic ideals. Both Mariana and The Lady of Shalott evoke questions about the place for women during the Industrial Revolution because Lord Alfred Tennyson characterizes both female characters as vulnerable in the absence of a man. The portrayal of the characters Mariana and The Lady of Shalott as weak is evident in the settings of each poem because they reside in trapped and abandoned spaces, are easily controlled by their surroundings, and the dark and lightless worlds they both live in without a man. Exploring how the troubling settings mirror ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To illustrate their importance in relation to women s lives, men are depicted as the essence of light within Victorian poetry, and in their absence women are forced to live in dejected shadows. Mariana is completely devoid of any light within her life and constantly laments, [m]y life is dreary ( Mariana 9) with her only scenery being an overgrown garden and a treeless expanse which she calls level waste, the rounding gray (44). Mariana lives a dismal life because she is eternally waiting for her lover and thus lives in a world of rounding gray . Even when light trickles in to her decrepit house, she loathed the hour/ [w]hen the thick moated sunbeam lay (77 78) because it reminds her that even when there is light, it is not pure like her love, it is polluted by dust and particles because nothing can be perfect or enjoyable when she is alone. The fleeting moments of positivity in Mariana s life are unrecognized because she does not have a man to share them with. The Lady of Shalott reveals comparisons between the protagonist s four gray walls (15) and the bedazzling love interest Lancelot who appears as he rode down to Camelot;/ [a]s often through the purple night,/ [b]elow the starry clusters bright,/ [s]ome bearded meteor, trailing light (95 99). • 5. Analysis Of Harley Davidson s Life Summary of analysis and recommendations. Harley Davidson has been operating as a U.S. motorcycle manufacturer since 1903. Throughout its life, it has been through many hardships, but just as many successes. Throughout the 1970s and 1980s Harley Davidson experienced tremendous difficulties and almost went bankrupt in 1985. To its dismay, in the 1990s Harley Davidson experienced several years of record growth and was ranked in 1990 by BusinessWeek as one of the top U.S. companies with a market value of $515 million. As a sign of their success, they remain the only U.S. motorcycle manufacturer still in business. Harley Davidson has competed in the U.S. and international markets against 140 other manufacturers, most of which were larger and far better financed then they were. In 1985, Harley Davidson was emerging from its hardships and growing as one of the top five motorcycle manufacturers in U.S. market shares, while also having 31% of its sales coming from overseas. Its international sales were increasing as they had partnered with a European parts warehouse in Germany and a joint venture in Japan. In addition to these relationships, it had also partnered with 851 U.S and international dealerships. As a business, Harley Davidson focused on three major business segments 1) motorcycles and related products; 2) transportation (both recreational and commercial); and 3) defense and other businesses. • 6. Chaos In Lord Of The Flies Essay The quote, Chaos is merely order waiting to be deciphered, by Jose Saramago, explains the importance of keeping order in civilization. When order does not exist or is not enforced, civilization begins to collapse or breaks down which, in turn, proceeds to ensue chaos. When Piggy discovers the conch in the story, Lord of The Flies, by William Golding, he uses it to establish order on the island, but when he dies order ceases to exist. The first line in the poem, In A Dark Time, is eerily similar to the boys situation of order and civility on the island. When Piggy first observed the conch in the beginning of the story he decided that they should use that conch to preserve order in the tribe. Piggy explains to the group, We can use ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After Piggy s death the boys on the island could not be more divided. The boys had split into two groups, Jack and his tribe and Ralph who is now alone due to Piggy s death. Dark, darker my light, and darker my desire, (Stanza 3), as said by Roethke. The boys are only falling into deeper chaos on the island, and are continuing to become more savage. Jack s desires, in particular, are becoming darker because he proceeds to throw spears and hunt down Ralph after he had witnessed Piggy s death. This is a great representation of how the boys are becoming more barbaric with the actions that they are taking. At first the boys desires were to get rescued. However, now Jack is coming to the realization that they will probably not be rescued and he wants to hunt down and kill Ralph. Jack starts reinstating to the boys on the island that he is their leader. Piggy s death is the symbolization of the breakdown of order and the beginning of disunity on the island. This breakdown of order is clearly delineated in the book. Jack sees the chance to kill Ralph right after Piggy is killed because Ralph is vulnerable, and alone against Jack and his tribe. Jack takes it upon himself to declare himself as the leader, I m chief! (Page 181). Jack sees the opportunity to proclaim himself as leader of the boys after Piggy dies and the conch is destroyed. Jack then proceeds to barrage Ralph with spears in an attempt to kill him, Viciously, with full intention, he hurled the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Satire In The Importance Of Being Ernest It s tone is that of satire, but of a satire which, for lack of a moral point of view, has lost its sting (Edouard Roditi) To what extent do you agree with this response to the play? By Molly Campbell With the definition of a satire being, the use of humour, irony, exaggeration, or ridicule to expose and criticize people s stupidity , it is ludicrous to even propose that The Importance of Being Earnest is anything other than a satirical play, as the characters relishing in the upper class of the Victorian period unknowingly mock their own habits acquired to them due to the luxury they are spoilt with. Despite this, it is evident that the use of satire is feckless and lacks a moral point of view, in contrast with the moral ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Previous to Wilde s The Importance of Being Earnest, Victorian comedies consisted mostly of high and low comedy and of dirty or vulgar jokes, dirty gestures, and sex . Hence, it is possible to suggest that contradictory to Edouard Roditi s interpretation, the Importance of Being Earnest carries a moral point of view in the fact it does not exploit sex or sexual preferences to effectuate drollery; Wilde provokes laughter through mistaken identities and the consequences of bunburying perhaps to allude that his opinions it that sexuality is not a laughing matter. Providing this interpretation is true, it is acceptable to assume that the reasoning behind the negative criticisms the drama received when first written were due to the fact critics felt appalled that a piece of writing could prove successful without it consisting of any sexual nature and hence deemed The Importance of Being Earnest as, dull in comparison to other plays read over the years . Howbeit, some critics state that the word earnest became a code word for homosexual, as in: Is he earnest? , in the same way that Is he so? and Is he musical? were also employed , suggesting that The Importance of Being Earnest is an expression of Wilde s hatred for marriage and his fondness of homosexuality as he praises the idea of being Earnest . • 9. The Growth And Success Of Canadian Airline Westjet Essay Roger Solis MNGT 370 Dr. Dilek Yunlu WestJet Case Analysis Introduction This article discusses the growth and success of Canadian airline WestJet. The company was established in 1994 by Clive Beddoes who stumbled upon an opportunity to collaborate with fellow businessmen: Tim Morgan, Don Bell, and Mark Hill to create a cost effective and very profitable airline in western Canada. Together they achieved a concept of an airline that would be low fare but rich in culture to maintain its integrity. With the help of David Needleman, president of Morris Air, the team developed a business plan and visualized what is now WestJet Airlines. They built an integrative, financial model and business plan which included only three aircraft and features of being: direct, cost effective, and short haul. Within 30 days of constructing a business plan the needed capital was raised and the foundation for WestJet airlines kicked off. In 1995 WestJet was established and began rapidly integrating into eastern Canada. Problem WestJet s quick success posed an issue because even though it was centered on culture eventually its concept would fail; the airline was growing very quickly and that could only mean that it would be difficult to maintain the intimate focus while staying extremely profitable. Critical Analysis In 1999 many changes occurred within the Canadian market of aviation. There was merging between successful and struggling airlines, and even airlines that failed relatively ... • 10. The Threat Of The Cyber Threat Since the onset of the first packet switching event that many believe to be beginning of the internet, no other technology besides the printing press has ever transformed the ability to deliver information. Although the internet is used by a large percentage of the civilized world, few Americans realize how vital cyberspace is to our national infrastructure. Today, we are faced with even more threats although it has been a recognized problem since 2009, when President Barrack Obama said The cyber threat is one of the most serious economic and national security challenges we face as a nation. It s also clear that we re not as prepared as we should be, as a government or as a country (Obama, 2009). Every industry that operates in the United States is dependent on the internet for some aspect of their business. Commerce, transportation, financial institutions, military, as well as industrial control systems are all interconnected. This interconnectedness has created vulnerabilities within their infrastructure that have increasingly become targets of terrorists, script kiddies, foreign governments and hackers of all types. Cyber attacks against Sony Pictures brought the vulnerabilities of poor cyber security policies to light. These attacks are nothing new but they appear to be getting more severe. According to James Clapper, the director of national intelligence, Cyber threats to U.S. national and economic security are increasing in frequency, scale, sophistication, and ... Historical Perspective Of Renaissance Florence Historiography The scholars who have documented the history of Florence in the Italian Renaissance observes Machiavelli in his Florentine Histories (Istorie fiorentine), tending to begin work there. The works of Machiavelli and Guicciardini have been useful in the studies of Renaissance Florence, through the direct translation of Latin, giving history from the view of these humanist historians of 15th century. Authors looking at the historical perspective of Renaissance Florence tend outline the aspects of the past and present state of studies in this field of the Renaissance and Renaissance Florence. In recent years, American scholars have concentrated on the methods and ideas in history rather than the specific problems of these Florentine information gaps. Historians within the modern study tend to only focus on the primary sources within the region, rather than try to look outside the area for references to said events. The cold and the awkward conversation with the man dressed as a beggar had made them feel as tired as a pair of work horses at dusk. I m for an early night, said Carolina. I could sleep, too, but I have to attend that meeting. And I need to be as sharp as a razor. Let s just have a quiet snooze. You ll be brighter after a nap. The two of them made their way to Carolina s room, cuddled up to each other, fully clothed, and fell asleep. They were awoken by the neighing sound of a horse outside the inn. He hoped the tune would smoke out the man dressed as a beggar, if he were there, and sure enough... Thought you said you didn t know it! shouted a disembodied voice from somewhere near the middle of the crowd, most of whom were on their feet. The source gradually made his way to the front, pushing his way past about a dozen or so others as he did so. Antonio hardly recognised him. The beggar had said as much. Gone were the pantaloons tied with string, the chest exposing open shirt, the battered hat and bare feet. Now he was dressed in a new, brown tricorne, a long black coat over black leather boots and a white shirt, decorated by a smart, black silk tie. He d trimmed his ragged beard to a neat point and shaped his moustache to a rakish, symmetrical upward curve on each side of his face. Antonio could smell the musky perfume on his subtle umber wig which almost matched his darker, brown hair. No. It s just the words we don t know. We know the tune well! smiled Antonio, wondering what the man s reaction would be and still unsure as to what his exact position could be in this confusion of masculine sweat and untidiness. In this paper, the 1962 version of The Miracle Worker is discussed and analyzed in terms of these communication concepts. The movie revolves around the story of Helen Keller, a seven year old girl who became deaf and blind after contracting an infection during her infancy. In order to teach Helen how to communicate, her parents (Kate and Captain Keller) hire a visually impaired schoolteacher by the name of Anne Sullivan. The film demonstrates Helen s struggle to communicate with her parents and Anne and how Helen slowly begins to learn, despite her disabilities. The concepts that I learned in class each helped me to see the movie from a different perspective. The topics of conflict, perception, and non verbal communication make up the majority of the film s plotline. Each one of these topics will be discussed in a paragraph about how it was represented in the film. Throughout the course of the film, there were various conflicts that took place between the main characters. The conflicts mainly occur between Anne and Helen and between Kate and Captain Keller. Most of the time, the conflicts are started because of an overall frustration trying to communicate with Helen. Conflicts can arise because of many different factors, but in this case, these conflicts arise because of Helen s disabilities. In ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. Willy Loman Flashback In Death of a Salesman, the past and present flow into one another seamlessly and simultaneously because of Arthur Miller. Willy Loman s metal state is clearly evident to the audience. He has multiple dreams (flashbacks) and sometime cannot distinguish the past and the present. Miller s manipulation of time in his play, Death of a Salesman, creates an atmosphere that is effective as it mirrors Willy Loman s mental state, thus allowing the audience to experience his mental instability and take a part in it. Willy Loman s instability is shown when he reinvents the past in his flashbacks, cannot separate the past from the reality of the present, and carries emotional burdens from the past. The idyllic past that Willy recalls is one that he reinvents, and these flashbacks are not entirely true. The idyllic past is a means of escape from the present reality for Willy. • 15. What Is The Conflict Of The Victorian Age He Victorian age experienced a conflict between science and religion. The era found its orthodoxy battered by movements of thoughts, like Positivism, Empiricism, Utilitarianism, Rationalism, Liberalism and Marxism which assailed all honest minds with scepticism. There was the new Biblical criticism and a spurt of scientific progress. They led the generation to secularization, agnosticism, atheism and religious passivity. Mostly, the writers of the age revolted against the deification of material progress. The poets were perhaps the best interpreters of the age (Brett 18). Another flower that is mentioned in the poem is roses. Roses are often associated with love in Western culture (hence all the advertisements around Valentine s Day), but the knight s rose is fading and withering. Sounds like a pretty clear metaphor for the end of a romantic relationship. But like the lily, the rose describes the knight s complexion. The rose is fading from the knight s cheeks. So the rose metaphor is doing double duty it s describing both his fading love affair, and his increasingly pale complexion. In Porphyria s Lover the speaker compares Porphyria s closed eyes to a closed flower bud with a bee inside. Is he afraid of getting stung by her eyes when she opens them again? The traditional one is a practical view which articulates a brand as a product identifier, including the source of the product (Aaker, 99 ). According to him, a brand is a distinguishing name and/or symbol which intended to identify the goods, services of either one seller or group of sellers and to differentiate those goods or services from those of competitors . Another approach, as holistic view, presents a brand as more than just the product (Styles Ambler, 995). In order to understand the effect that the Brand Identity has on consumers, the consistency of identity with the brand concept has to be emphasized through the company s strategic options. This will facilitate the recognition and brand recall by consumers in an environment where there are multiple competitive options (Sonnier and Ainslie, 20 ). • 34. The “rightness” of Native American boarding school Essay In the 1870s, the U.S. government enacted a policy of assimilation of Native Americans, to Americanize them. Their goal was to turn them into white men. Schools were an important part of facilitating their goal. In 1879, Richard Henry Pratt founded the Carlisle Indian School. It was the first school in which Native American children were culturally exposed to American ideology. The idea for the boarding school first came through treatment of Cheyenne warriors. In the 1860s, Americans were in the midst of a major western migration. Settlers were moving into the western region, pushing natives off lands, and in some cases, killing livestock. Warriors then took revenge on settlers and soldiers. General Sherman called for the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Pratt then turned his attention to native children. He saw the example of the Hampton Institute for Negroes, which taught children industrial skills. He concluded that to transform natives, one had to start with the children. In 1879, the government consented to Pratt s request. He went to Dakota Territory to find students for his new Carlisle Indian School in Pennsylvania. Pratt determined the only way to change them was assimilation through total immersion. The school was established in an abandoned army post. The children wore military uniforms and cut their hair. In the first few years, the children suffered epidemics of cholera, influenza, and tuberculosis. As a result, they made a cemetery on the school. Lack of cultural diversity Ethnocentrism Social workers strive to keep the uniqueness of individuals and communities. The preservation of diversity honors the distinctiveness of individuals and communities. Boarding schools were genocidal to the cultural structure of Native Americans. They were forced to assimilate to the image of the white man: It disjointed family structure, dishonored their cultural differences and language. Children placed in these schools were deprived of learning their heritage. Pratt s goal of humanizing Native Americans is the basis of ethnocentrism. Pratt like many Americans during this time believed American culture was the only and right way of life. Although most cultures have, tendencies of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Consider the periods 1919 1928 and 1945 1950. United States foreign policy has always been characterized by a commitment to free trade, protection of American interests, and a concern for human rights. Our founding fathers, specifically George Washington, are responsible for much of the influence regarding foreign policy after their time period and up to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The KKK organized mass demonstrations to intimidate people they disliked. They persecuted Blacks, Jews, Catholics, and for the most part, anyone who was of a foreign race. During this time period, America was extremely pro nativist and showed it with everything they did to keep foreigners out (Link, 80). After the Second World War, American foreign policy was, for the most part, different then post World War 1 foreign policy. As a result of the war, we decided that threats to peace and freedom elsewhere in the world did affect us, that if we ignored serious trouble in the world it would probably eventually find us. Thus, after the war we became internationalist using our power and prestige to help and protect our friends and acting to prevent wars wherever possible or to minimize them when they did break out. Politically, the United States government did almost everything it could have done to make the world and the country a better place after World War Two. In order to prevent wars and make the world a safer place, the country wanted to establish an international organization that would help achieve this goal, similar to the Wilson s proposed League of Nations, except this time, the organization had full support and funding of the United States. The organization was formed in 1945, and it was called the United Nations. Not only did the United Nations ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. The De Goya Y Lucientes He is considered the most important artist in Spain during the late 18th and early 19th century and was one of the most prominent and successful painters in Europe. Francisco Jose de Goya y Lucientes was a romantic painter and printmaker whose style changed drastically throughout his life; he is considered the last of the Old Masters and the first of the moderns. His style fits into the category of Romanticism, which is most apparent in his paintings of the Spanish Royal family after becoming First Painter to the King of Spain in 1786. Six years later, he suffered an awful illness which ultimately left him deaf and shaped his future work. After Napoleon Bonaparte rose to prominence during the French Revolution, Spain was invaded due to its political and strategic importance to the French. Goya was able to capture the horrors he saw in his anti war works produced in paintings and with intaglio prints which he didn t make public. The throne of Spain was taken by Joseph Bonaparte, Napoleon s brother, who was backed by a large French military force. After the political situation in Spain normalized and rule was returned to it s rightful heir, Goya returned to painting commissioned portraits. With ailing health, he moved to a country home where he completed the haunting Black Paintings which were painted directly to his walls. Due to his health, he received permission from King Ferdinand IV for an indefinite leave of absence and relocates to Paris. He completes a small number of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 38. Affects Of Weather On Deer Hunting Effects of Weather on Deer Hunting Every year the fall brings in one of the biggest sports, hunting. According to David Crook in his article How big is the Hunting Economy, there are about 13.7 million people or approximately six percent of the United States population that consider themselves to be hunters. When all of these people get up the morning of opening day there is one thing that affects the way that they hunt. Every avid hunter knows that they have to base their hunting style off of the weather. The different factors of the weather such as the temperature, wind speed, barometric pressure, and precipitation changes the way the deer move and can either make or break a deer hunter s season. The movement of a whitetail deer changes according to the weather. There are several different factors to consider when talking about the weather, but the one of the leading factors is the temperature. Some people believe that the colder it is outside, the better the hunting becomes. This is true until it gets so cold that the deer have to bed down and not move to stay warm. When the temperature begins to drop down to about 35 degrees Fahrenheit, the deer begin scrambling for food to prepare for winter and the rut. The rut is a deer s mating season. This has the deer at a constant movement and makes for prime hunting. When the temperature begins to change, the amount of movement of the deer begins to change also. If the temperature rises then the amount of a deer s movement ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The goal is to open a new Maritime Training Center in Las Vegas, Nevada and become an established Safety Training Center in the maritime industry to various commercial enterprises and most importantly Military Sealift Command, the largest operator of civilian manned logistic support vessels for the U.S. Navy. Before we get into want everyone wants to know, let me start off with a bit about my background and myself. I m Captain Edward Santillan, and a current employer with Military Sealift Command. I have been working with MSC for the last 20 years, started as an entry level position in the Supply Department and worked by way up to Master Unlimited Tonnage. I m and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is something Las Vegas can capitalize on as there is no training site available. There are a good percentage of sailors that live in the area, as most sailors desire to live in a tax free state. I am one of them! There are 8 maritime academies that are pumping out 800 Third Officers and Third Assistant Engineers every year. These new junior officers that end up sailing will eventually require attending the courses we will be providing. Now, they are creating Junior Supply Officer(s), which I intend to create courses to support advancement in this rate. There are various Gun Ranges to support Small Arms Training, which is a high demand course requirement in Military Sealift Command, even with the Unions who are contracted by Military Sealift Command. This course alone would pay for the overhead cost at the training center. However, this business plan is not about one course; it s about two dozen courses we can start without having to invest in high price training aids like a simulator. However, once we get established the goal will become a full service Maritime Center with a Simulator. The proposed training center will be only 5 hours away from the Military Sealift Command CSU W pool in San Diego, where CIVMARs are backlogged sometime waiting weeks for openings on their required training. We will provide transportation to and from the San Diego ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
