Greek Influence On The Modern World
The Greek influence in the modern world is still significant today. In a matter of words Hellenism
brought us intelligence. The cultural significance of Hellenism in this modern world brought us
libraries, museums, art, architecture, language, warfare tactics and weapons, philosophers and
philosophies, and democratic societies. Hellenism in the modern world means to adopt Greek culture
even in non Greek regions. Hellenism has brought to the modern world many different things that may
have been once impossible. Hellenism has brought literature comedies epic tales, poetry, and tragedy.
In modern terms this is converted into books, movies, theatre, television, plays, and they have become
a part of everyday life. Furthermore, Hellenism has brought us philosophy, which in a way increased
intelligence. With the likes of Pluto, he brought us ethics, justice, and methods of acquiring
knowledge. Aristotle brought us ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thales of Maletus, studied astronomy and was the first to predict an eclipse of the sun. He also
calculated the height and distance of things, and was considered an inventor and engineer who is also

worlds which may be inhabited. He researched different things, such as minerals and plants, he was
also interested in mathematics and geometry.
The Greeks had a love of architecture, and as such they strove for perfection. They were known for the
temple designs, however they also built theatres for entertainment, stadiums for sporting events, and
they paved roads. In Alexandria they built the Pharos lighthouse, they also built a great library, and
museum, so architecture was very important to the Greeks and today it is important to

The Mexican American War, Spanish Guerra De 1847
The Mexican American War The Mexican War, Spanish Guerra de 1847, or Guerra do Estados Unidos
a Mexico, are different names for the Mexican American War. Many incidents happened even before
the war officially began. Eisenhower simply and bluntly stated: The fact is that Mexico stood in the
way of the American dream of Manifest Destiny. Manifest Destiny was just one of the causes that
pushed us to war with Mexico. The first battle was at Palo Alto, a fort that was in the disputed zone.
There were many battles in 2 years. The war finally grasped an end when Mexico signed a treaty in
Mexico City. With the treaty, U.S and Mexico were able to reach terms. Each proceedings that
happened, brought on the war that lasted from 1846 1848 and then ended with the U.S as victors.
Prior to the Mexican American War, there were many events that lead to the cause of the war. For
many years, Americans and Mexicans had very little direct contact, because they were separated by
huge tracts of undeveloped territory. However, in the 19th century, the U.S began to rapidly expand
westward. By 1819, U.S had gained the Louisiana Territory and also the Arkansas and Missouri
Territories, which bordered Mexican lands. American settlers began to pour into these territories. Then
they began to illegally enter the sparsely inhabited Mexican territories of California, New Mexico and
Texas. Mexico saw U.S expansion as a threat. A man by the name of Stephen Austin made a deal with

Differences And Similarities Between Texas And Italy
Choosing between Texas fun amusement parks or Italy s beautifully painted villages are
uncomparable. However, through the opposites there are likenesses. There are many similarities and
differences between Texas and Italy in many factors. The factors that compare between the two are
their climate, landmarks and attractions, and lastly their culture.
The one element that really unites Texas and Italy is their climate. They both share the characteristic
of acquiring the sizzling and humid summers, however, Italy handles the heat with fearlessness. As
being the hottest country between the two, Italy with boldness are not known for their air conditioned
homes. Nonetheless, they have configured a solution to the heat and have architecturally established a
solution. With Italy s little rainfall compared to Texas , their solution of enlarging the number of
windows have since kept them cool and shielded from the little rainfall that they receive. Italy s
rainfall seems scarce compared to Texas bountiful showers that are triple more than Italy s. However,
the extra rain gained in Texas is lost to the more hours of sunlight received. ... Show more content on

However while Texas generally consists of plains and waterways, the Alps and Apennines mountain

experience the natural part of Texas and Italy. In addition, Italy and Texas offer tourist attractions to
visit and venture, such as historical buildings, museums, and beaches. While enjoying Texas many
amusement parks and entertainment spots, Italy offers many cathedrals, Roman temples, charming

Cesar Chavez Boycotts
Throughout history many people have fought for civil rights in different ways. These historical figures
can help show how to fight for civil rights today. Cesar Chavez, an activist and farm labor worker
fought for civil rights through boycotts and marches. Methods such as those used by Cesar Chavez are
just some ways people can fight for civil rights today. One effective way to fight for civil rights are
boycotts. Cesar Chavez, an activist and farm labor worker, fought for the rights of immigrant farm
workers through boycotts and marches. Ultimately, Cesar Chavez lead a successful boycott against
California table grapes to fight for the rights of immigrant farm workers. Through boycotting unjust
companies or ideas Cesar Chavez was able to achieve his goal of immigrant farm workers gaining
rights.( 1984 Cesar Chavez... ) This provides evidence that boycotts can work and be successful.
Although boycotts are not the only way you can fight for civil rights, there are other successful
methods. There are other examples to support boycotts in being a good way to fight for civil rights
such as the Montgomery Bus Boycott. The boycotts began in Montgomery, Alabama, to protest the
segregated seating on buses of African Americans, and famously saw Rosa Parks refuse to give up her
seat to a white man. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Marches are often an effective way to protest something. During the Civil Rights Movement Martin
Luther King Jr. and other participants fought for rights by marching. He would march in a nonviolent
way to gain the support of the people. Through these marches King gained lots of attention to shine
the light on the issue of the rights of African Americans. Cesar chavez also lead many marches often
to protest and raise awareness of issue such as immigrant farm workers rights. Through protesting
people can express their beliefs in a nonviolent way in order to raise awareness and possibly gain

Pornography Abuse And Violence Against Women
There are obvious problems with society today regarding the presence of sexual violence and rape.
The cause of these crimes is difficult to isolate, as it is also difficult material for researchers to
complete studies on. We need a better definition of abuse, and it needs to be stated that the intelligence
and mental instability can affect a man s actions. There can be a place in relationships for pornography
as well, where women are consenting and desire to explore different material, not necessarily being
dehumanized. While Fight the New Drug and Samantha Grey, the author of, A Letter to Men: Porn is
Not Just Women s Problem, both present claims that pornography consumption leads to violence
against women, and plea for society to reject pornography, there are unanswered questions and
overlooked aspects that leave their argument unconvincing. A guideline of what defines abuse and
violence needs to be established to properly examine pornography material. The texts presented high
percentages of violence existing in the pornography films that were used to formulate data. However,
there are no specifics regarding what violence is. Did the standards include elements of dirty talk,
kink, spanking, or BDSM? Fight the New Drug states that In other words, in porn, people are getting
beaten up and they re smiling about it. There is a significant difference in a woman being exposed to

Trait Theory Of The Great Man Theory
Trait Theory
Bass (1990; Koh, 1990) posited the historical evolution of leadership as commencing with the trait
theory in the 1930s until to 1940s , in which the assumption was that leaders were born with special
qualities which made them effective leaders. As a result, distinction was employed on in discovering
universal traits which stood out between leaders and non leaders (Koh, 1990). Early studies
investigated traits such as Intelligence, dominance, age, sex, height, and weight, but at last the trait
theory was disputed when confirmation could not be established that specific traits were connected
with effective leaders (Koh, 1990; Yukl, 2002).
Trait Theory expresses the concept of inherent leadership qualities rather than something one learns. A
few studies show leaders are exceptional people who are born with qualities to lead (Clawson, 2006;
Stogdill, 1948). Great Man Theory stipulates that leadership is inherent and there is no amount of
training or coaching that can help an individual acquire leadership qualities; one must have it in
oneself (Stogdill, 1948). Effective leadership has a great quest for responsibility and task completion.
Often leaders do not get frustrated easily but are vigorous in pursuing organizational goals, take risks,
do not shy away from solving problems, and are driven to take initiative in social situations (Clawson,
2006; Stogdill, 1948).
Furthermore, as argued by Kirkpatrick and Locke (1993) evidence shows that traits do matter in

D. H. Lawrence Essay
It is a divided issue whether D. H. Lawrence is to be considered a friend or a foe to the feminist
movement. On one hand, he advocates an egalitarian man woman relationship, on the other, his notion
of equality seems rather subject to qualification. His reference to the ideal monogamous partnership as
phallic marriage (Spilka 7) is certainly a cue that must be taken up. Why is marriage phallic unless the
phallus is privileged in the expression of sexuality? (de Beauvoir 205) The idealisation of gender
relationships leads to an essentialisation of gender, which is itself at the source of patriarchal
domination. Is Lawrence really a liberator of sex, or only of patriarchal sex? Does he grant more
independence to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is not because it is passionate or animalistic, it is because it is the meeting of two essentially
opposed and alien forces the two halves of human experience the masculine and feminine.
Sex is the balance of male and female in the universe, the attraction, the repulsion, always different,
always new... Sex goes through the rhythm of the year, in man and woman, ceaselessly changing: the
rhythm of the sun in his relation to the earth.
Marriage is the clue to human life, ...[but] marriage is no marriage that is not basically and
permanently phallic. (A Propos Lady Chatterly 40 42)
He goes on to describe the phallus as the column of blood that fills the woman s valley of blood
without ever breaking through and commingling. This ultimate nearness which still respects
individuality is the deepest mystery of science and religion, both of which are invoked in the
elaboration of Lawrence s theory. The problem, he feels with modern Europe is that sex is too egoistic
and conscious; one has sex for and with oneself1[1] and not as part of the expression of natural forces.
Only by abandoning the personal in sex can one hope to give rise to a new mystical state of
experience.

The Early Modern Atlantic Economy Edited by J. McCusker...
On one hand a group of historian argues the notion that Brazil and the Caribbean experienced a sugar
revolution while on the other hand another group argues that there was no such thing as a sugar
revolution, what Brazil and Caribbean experienced was simply a sugar boom. In order to assess which
group of historians is more accurate, one must first understand the concept of a sugar revolution and
what factors must be present in order for a sugar revolution to occur. The concept of a sugar revolution
is one that states there was a drastic change from the cultivation of tobacco to the cultivating of sugar
cane, changing the country`s economy, politics and social structure within a short period of time.
According to B.W. Higman there are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When sugar cane was introduced those planters who owned small plots of land either had to sell their
land, merge their land with another planter and enter into a partnership or buy more land in order to
grow sugar cane. Sugar cane could only be grown on large plots of land which ranged from 150 acres
to 500 acres in Barbados and in Jamaica 300 acres to 5000 acres. The type of labour also changed
within the Caribbean islands of Barbados, Jamaica, Nevis, Antigua and Montserrat from free labour to
slave labour. Tobacco cultivation required a very small labour force, but with sugar as the new cash
crop a large labour force was needed in which the Dutch provided by bringing African slaves.
Therefore the white populations of these countries declined while the black populations increased due
to the sugar revolution. Even though the governments of these Islands made efforts to keep the black
to white ratio ten to one, according to Greenwood, Robert, Hamber, S, Dyde, Brian the ratio became
extremely difficult to maintain during the years passed .
This population change occurred during the early years of the sugar revolution up to the mid 1700s. In
Barbados there were 18 000 whites and 5 500 blacks in 1645 and by 1660 there were 20 000 whites
and 30 000 blacks while Jamaica had 4 500 whites and 1 500 blacks in 1658 to 8 500 whites to

How Racing Share The Same Fundamentals Of Racing
Regardless of if you enjoy racing or not, you likely know what either Nascar or Formula One is. In the
United States of America, Nascar is by far the most popular form of racing. This popularity allows the
sport to have its 4.5 billion [dollar] television contract that began in 2007 (Odland). Meanwhile in the
rest of the world, Formula One is the most popular. Evidently, Formula One generates an immense
amount of wealth as well. Red Bull, a sponsor in Formula One, is thought to have generated an
estimated $283 million in brand exposure in just one season alone(Smith). Due to the fact that they are
both forms of racing, a multitude of people group these two very different genres of racing together
and claim that they are basically the same. While there are some central similarities, these are two
abundantly different forms of racing. The most important and basic similarity is that both forms of
racing share the same fundamentals of racing. The essential differences between the two include the
cars that are driven as well as the tracks used for races. Both Nascar and Formula One share the same
fundamentals of racing. The ultimate goal is to win every race that you possibly can. This is done by
finishing before, often in front of, everyone else. In each form of racing, drivers take what are called
pit stops. This is when a driver pulls into a designated area where his/her team is located. Then that
teams provides car adjustments and fuel. These pit stops are critical

Crime In The 19th Century
Crime and punishment in the 19thcentury was a time of rising crime and increasing misery. As people
packed into the slums of the ever expanding cities jobs became scarce and people struggled. In rural
areas, changes to agricultural practices left many laborers without enoughwork to support their
families. In order for many of the poor to feed their families, they turned to crime. In the later 19th
century it was not just crime that was increasing but also poverty. The industrial revolution made
many people rich, but for many poor familiesin both rural and urban areas life was the worst it had
been for a long time. As people moved into the towns and cities, the crime rate increased rapidly.

The Case V. Long Island Railroad Co
Introduction
Different case laws are referred while representing any case in the court; however seminal cases are

was carried on the trail court which gave decision in favour of Ms. Palsgraf, then the case was

was taken the court of appeals, highest court in New York which provided the reverse decision and

In this case, the dissenting opinion changed the course of the case, provided new directions but
leading to the formation of new clause under tort law. In this case, question was raised against the
guard position and it was held that as guard did not know anything about the material within the
parcel, he should be held responsible for the harm caused to the plaintiff (Miller Cross, 2011).
However, with a new perspective of causa proxima the whole scenario received a new perspective.

Church In The Canterbury Tales
Canterbury is an English cathedral city which was a popular pilgrimage site in the
Medieval Era. However, in the Middle Ages, the members of the clergy did not always live up to their
lofty expectations and standards. The Church s credibility, at this time, was diminishing due to the
actions of its officials. Geoffrey Chaucer, author of The Canterbury Tales, took this pilgrimage and
along the way met a few of these questionable clerical figures. During the
General Prologue of the work, Chaucer provides a comical representation of all the characters he
meets on his journey. His description of clerical members, such as the Monk, criticize their actions and
interests. In addition to the Monk, he meets a nun with questionable morals and a deceitful, selfish
friar. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The idea of the Nun relaxing on this principle exhibits the decline of the Church s credibility. In
addition to her lax fashion choices, the Nun spoils herself in her diet. Similar to monks, nuns
maintained a very strict lifestyle. Chaucer s Nun fails to abide with this minimalist culture when it
comes to food.
Chaucer describes her as by no means undergown which insinuates that she is not a dainty woman like
her peers (GP 160). Nuns, like monks, also prohibited the donning of jewelry or other items personal
items. Once again, the Nun fails to observe this ideal and proceeds to bear a glaring brooch on her
clothing (GP 164). In addition to this, Chaucer observes, She wore a coral trinket on her arm which
further defies the monastic code (162). Furthermore, the Nun is by no means an upstanding member of
the medieval clerical community. Chaucer s portrayal of the Nun as a immoral and pompous figure
further aids the argument of the Church s hypocrisy.
Continuing the themes of hypocrisy and corruption, Chaucer s Friar contradicts his divine position
with his deceitful actions towards society. He exploits his position in order to get

Ayn Rand Essay On The Book Anthem
Rand Essay: Prompt 1 In 2007 to 2013 there was a major controversy over a very simple subject. This
subject was an object that is a necessity in today s society. The object created a new opportunity for
humans because it allowed people to see in the dark. This object was none other than the light bulb.
The light bulb was an amazing invention when it was first created and it still is today except people
overlooked a few things about the first light bulb also known as the incandescent light bulb. The
things that people overlooked on the incandescent light bulb was the fact that it guzzled up so much
energy. Another problem with the incandescent light bulb was that it emitted carbon dioxide. One final

One reason for this is because in Anthem the protagonist, Equality 7 2521, thinks that he has created
something that will form an advantage for society. Rand Paul using this to support his argument does
not make sense because Rand Paul was trying to preserve the light bulb of the past instead of just
using the one that is better for the future. Equality 7 2521 was trying to create something that would
establish a better future, and not continue to use what was made in the past. Another reason that it was
not appropriate for Rand Paul to use Ayn Rand and Anthem to support his claim was because people in
the United States have so much control over their choices compared to countries like North Korea.
The fact that Paul thinks the United States will become like the dystopian society of Anthem is absurd.
Rand Paul thought that the government making this choice is a bad thing does not seem right because
they are trying to get rid of something that is bad for the people of our nation. These are clear

mysterious blogger among the characters named Gossip Girl. It s equivalent to the girls watching,

Women In The Progressive Era
The Gilded age was a time of economic growth as the United States rapidly jumped to the lead in
industrialization, ahead of Britain. The nation was expanding/increasing its economy into new areas,
specifically heavy industry factories, such as railroads and coal mining. The Progressive Era was a
period of widespread social activism and political reform all throughout the United States. The main
goals of the Progressive Movement were eliminating issues caused by industrialization, immigration,
urbanization, and corruption in government. Many individuals who supported the Progressive
Movement ideals of prohibiting alcoholic beverages, ultimately targeting the political power of high
end bosses. At the same time, women s suffrage was a theme that was highly influential during the
Progressive Era because they were defending their rights to vote. The main problem was the women
were not equally seen as smart, influential individuals who should play a part in making decisions for
the country. Two of the women who primarily helped/contributed to the passing of the 19th
amendment/birth control were Alice Paul and Margaret Sanger. Although these two women were
fighting for the same objectives (women s rights), they had different methods of completing and
accomplishing their goal.
Alice Paul was clearly characterized by her aggressive methods of reaching her goal. She grew up in a
Quaker family, and as she became more interested with politics, the more she became frustrated with

Essay On Cyrus The Great
Cyrus the Great was the founder of the Persian Empire and had a highly successful reign that can be
greatly credited an effective leadership, because of which he was able to make significant positive
steps for the empire and influence future civilisations. This can be seen in various aspects of his
leadership including his strategic thinking, which enabled him to establish and expand the empire, his
appeasing of the peoples, which assisted in preventing revolts, and the large impact he has had and
continues to have on various peoples and civilisations. Cyrus the Great was a highly strategic thinker
in various ways including militarily and politically meaning that he was able to more easily expand
and control the empire during his reign and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cyrus ensured this by correcting mistakes of past leaders and respecting the existing religions, values
and cultures of the places he conquered and this reduced the chance of revolt enabling him to better
establish the empire and ensure his leadership was effective. In a verse account of the conquest of
Babylon it is said that Nabonidus, the leader before Cyrus, was disrespectful and prevented the
celebration of religious festivals and the people of Babylon were hostile towards him. When Cyrus
came into power he declared peace, appeased the gods once more and acted righteously, fixing all the
wrongs on Nabonidus and returning a joyful heart to the people. During his rule he also returned
displaced Jews to their land and rebuilt their temples, once again righting the wrongs of a past leader.
By doing these things Cyrus was able to demonstrate his effective leadership by preventing revolts of
which he has none recorded compared to the at least five of Darius, which enabled him to focus more
on expansion. The lasting impacts of Cyrus the Great within and beyond the empire exemplify his
effective style of leadership. It is said that one of the most important things for the prosperity of an
empire is its governing system and the system created by Cyrus was used and refined

The Principles Of A Reagan Conservative, Dr. Paul Kengor
In his 2014 book 11 Principles of a Reagan Conservative, Dr. Paul Kengor laid out the foundational
beliefs of the Reagan presidency. Of importance to the relevance of Reagan and the current political
climate are the principles related to social conservatism: faith, family, and the sanctity and dignity of
human life.(1) Those principles formed one leg of Reagan s three legged philosophy of conservatism.
Many of the same principles form the core of the current conservative wing of the Republican Party,
but demographics within the United States have changed the relevancy of the principles.
Understanding the political climate and demographics of the 1970s and 1980s in relationship to social
conservatism and projecting the demographics and political climate of the 2018 mid term election will
determine the efficacy of the message of social conservatism for the current electorate. 107 lines
Economically the 1970s proved to be a turbulent time for the United States. The U.S had been
involved in a long and unpopular war in Vietnam since 1965. In 1968, Richard Nixon defeated
Democratic Vice President Hubert Humphrey in one of the closest elections in U.S. history (REF).
Nixon eventually achieved a peace agreement to end U.S. involvement in Vietnam, but domestically,
his policies damaged the economy. In 1971, Nixon imposed wage and price controls in an attempt to
curb inflation, ended the U.S. s last ties to the gold standard, effectively devalued the dollar, and
imposed a 10

The Occupation And Abuse Of National And Female Bodies
The occupation and abuse of national and female bodies causes them to be portrayed as fragmented in
literature dealing with colonial themes. With the infitah opening Egypt s doors to the world, elements
of the modern flooded in and the nation become a conglomeration of old and new, tradition and
modern (Shechter 572). Conflicting views between how to incorporate modern and tradition into
Egyptian culture impacted all levels of the nation. Elements of the modern and the tradition were split
and emphasized differently to different groups. As a figure thought to be representative of the purity of
the nation, tradition is emphasized for the female body in order to maintain the identity of the nation
despite economic change (Sadaawi Hidden Face 31). While the man is allowed to enter the world of
money and exchange promised by capitalism, it is the female who must remain unaffected as a symbol
of the nation s purity in contrast to the Western nations. She is still suppressed by cultural ideas that
restrict and criminalize her body. Her virginity is not only a symbol of honor for her family, but also
for her nation. While Egypt desired economic power and adapted western economic policies, they
wished to keep their cultural and social traditions and further oppress the female as a symbol of
sanctity. The contradicting background and situation the female finds herself in leads to individual
fragmentation. There is a divide created between love, sex, and pleasure. Stringent

Essay on Effective Communication
Barriers to Effective Communication
Even though an individual s backgrounds and beliefs can affect the process of communication, one
must utilize the different processes and components to achieve effective communication. Because
barriers block the listening process causing misunderstanding that may block the flow of information
between individuals. Therefore, this misunderstanding may blur the lines of communication utilized
within the criminal justice system.
The basic concept of communication is interaction between two or more people that results in the
passing of information. However, for this process to happen effectively one must understand the
different methods and standards required to achieve the process because without this ... Show more

The officials involved in the Omaha chase had to be able to transmit the information using the radio
about the dangers that they faced to protect the others assisting (Dorland, 2012).
Understanding, Receiving, Feedback, and Retransmitting Although, the dispatcher received the
information he or she would need to understand the fullness of the situation by giving feedback. This
feedback allows the sender transmit further information so that those on the other end of the radio will
receive and understand what is transpiring at the officials location (Dorland, 2012). In a way these five
steps became known as the basis of communication. Because the information goes through a process
that requires the information to transmit through a route that allows both the sender and the receiver to
process information until they decode the entire conversation. However, no matter how well a
communication process works the people involved will always have barriers that can block the
communication process. Because each person has his or her own backgrounds and beliefs that will
cause barriers to be overcome (Wallace Roberson, 2009).
Communication Barriers Even with the best communication process, the initial receiver s confusion of
the information received may come from the distractions around them. Therefore, one must
understand what causes these barriers and come up with a solution because

Lord Of The Flies Savage Analysis
There is a savage beast in every man, and when you hand that man a sword or spear and send him
forth to war, the beast stirs ― George R.R. Martin, A Storm of Swords. Once a man is placed into the
wild, he is soon to turn savage to gain power and thrive through uncivilized situations. They will do
barbaric actions when left from civilization. In the book, Lord of the Flies By William Golding, he
uses the group of boys to illustrate that while one may start as a civilized human, when there is a
chance to seize power, he will turn savage to take and keep that power. At first, the boys remain calm
and work together, until Jack moves to a more savage state making him do inhumane actions. This
idea is also stressed in an article analyzing people without civilization. Lost and stranded on a small
island, the boys decide to elect a leader which causes the conflict of power. A plane crashes onto the
island leaving a bunch of kids stranded on a remote island. They need a leader to keep the kids alive
and they decide that either Jack or Ralph should be in control. When all the boys are on the beach,
Jack brings up the point that [he] ought to be chief, said Jack with a simple arrogance, because [he is]
chapter chorister and head boy. [he] can sing C sharp (Golding 22). Jack is making up excuses to
become leader. Jack says he can sing a C sharp which is portraying how people of today make up
random stuff to look more fit to lead. Jack acts arrogant putting himself out there

An event that happened in America in the decade of the 1920s there was a large creative movement
that affected or encouraged change in the United States history. According to the online Openstax
textbook called U.S. History published by P. Scott Corbett, Volker Janssen, John M. Lund, Todd
Pfannenstiel and Paul Vickery states This mixture of social, political, economic, and cultural change
and conflict gave the decade the nickname the Roaring Twenties or the Jazz Age . A widespread of
economic prosperity, social change and a form of expression made a way for society to begin to walk
down the path of the modern age. Especially for women, African Americans, and the youth generation.
Thereby, redefining the nation for the youth to forget about the post world war one era and embrace
the new morality, for African American to showcase their intellectual contributions and link their
struggle to the world, for women to expand their human rights and be liberated from society standards,
and for American to begin their new lives because of invention in medicine and technology. So, how
did the Roaring Twenties and or the Jazz Age affect the decade of the 1920s in the United States
history?
First, there was a variety of inventions that was beneficial to health and wellness, and economically
prosperous for producers and somewhat labor free for consumers, during the 1920s. Three examples

Stop And Frisk Research
Racial Discrimination of Stop and Frisk in the NYPD
The New York City Police Department stop and frisk impacts thousands of peoples lives everyday,
and unfortunately most of the cases involve African American and Hispanic Males, which shows
racism is still present in the world we live in today. Prior to speaking about a stop and frisk, one must
have general knowledge about what it is and all of its supporting parts. A Stop and frisk occurs when
an officer of the law temporarily detains an individual or group of people on the street to question
them about the reason or reasons in which they were stopped, and possibly also frisking or searching
them for the safety of the officers and the detainees as well. A stop may end with someone being
arrested or given a ticket if evidence of a crime being committed comes to light. A stop and frisk is a
concise, non invasive, police stop of a suspect(Cornell University Law School, 2014). ... Show more

Probable cause means that an officer may not stop a person without having a reasonable suspicion that
the individual has, is about to, or will commit a crime in the future. It protects one from having their
fourth amendment rights being abused by these officers who do not follow protocol and conduct
unlawful searches and seizures as stated in the U.S Constitution. The only time that frisking someone
can be done without legal issues is when the officer has a reason to believe that the person is a threat
to the officers, other bystanders, themselves and/ or have a weapon. The paper will expand on the
proper policies and procedures of a stop and frisk, along with how racial discrimination plays a huge
role in the unlawful stop and frisks being conducted by The New York Police Department, New York

Genre, Plot, And Theme Of This Play
1) Discuss the genre, plot, and theme of this play.
The genre is a musical comedy. The rock music of the eighties moves the play through the story that is
centered in the Bourbon Room bar in Los Angeles. Most of the characters in the play used to be in a
rock band, currently are in a rock band or are trying hard to get into a rock band. The girls who wanted
or currently want to make in movies are bar waitresses and strippers. Big business wants to close
down the strip and develop a new business district. The classic rock hits and the main love interest
moves the story toward a happy and energetic ending.
2) Did you enjoy the production? Why or why not?
I enjoy comedies and I love many of the songs that were in the play so I could not help but laugh and
sing along at times. The production was very good overall. I was uncomfortable with the strippers.
The very suggestive dances and constant presence of the outfits were not necessary for the overall
story. The females playing the strippers did a good job and did deliver in lines and lyrics. The actors
did a very convincing job. The vocals were strong and the live rock band gave the show a punch. The
small stage and limited seating at the Virginia Samford Theatre were strengths. The actors were close
and you could see every expression. The size of the theatre helps pull you into the play.
3) Which actors did a convincing job? Describe their technique.

Dance Obstacles
The beginning of class was a bit challenging because it has been so long since I have actually
practiced dance and stretched. The workout and warm up for the first two weeks kept my body in
great shape capable of feeling relaxed and muscles moving. The warm up made the dances a bit easier
to actually keep up, but still was a challenge. The way the stretches are handled are great because it is
a new routine my body has not gone through. It is quiet the challenge because my left leg is stronger
than my right, but I push through to have the equal exposure. I am a dancer who learns by seeing the
movement being taught step by step then I expose myself to the new step procedure. I have difficulty
with copying and mirroring because my mind cannot process different directions. It gets easily as I
continue the step and actually slowly do it myself, but I build up the pace as I actually get the steps
myself. I also notice my body is stiff and that has always been one of the challenges I noticed being a
dancer. When I learn something new I create this tension that stiffens my spine and it only becomes
relaxed once I clearly know the passages myself. The carving through space is a new exposure to ...

leadership qualities more even outside of the dance setting. I think it is because I have a smaller chest

  • 3. The Mexican American War, Spanish Guerra De 1847 The Mexican American War The Mexican War, Spanish Guerra de 1847, or Guerra do Estados Unidos a Mexico, are different names for the Mexican American War. Many incidents happened even before the war officially began. Eisenhower simply and bluntly stated: The fact is that Mexico stood in the way of the American dream of Manifest Destiny. Manifest Destiny was just one of the causes that pushed us to war with Mexico. The first battle was at Palo Alto, a fort that was in the disputed zone. There were many battles in 2 years. The war finally grasped an end when Mexico signed a treaty in Mexico City. With the treaty, U.S and Mexico were able to reach terms. Each proceedings that happened, brought on the war that lasted from 1846 1848 and then ended with the U.S as victors. Prior to the Mexican American War, there were many events that lead to the cause of the war. For many years, Americans and Mexicans had very little direct contact, because they were separated by huge tracts of undeveloped territory. However, in the 19th century, the U.S began to rapidly expand westward. By 1819, U.S had gained the Louisiana Territory and also the Arkansas and Missouri Territories, which bordered Mexican lands. American settlers began to pour into these territories. Then they began to illegally enter the sparsely inhabited Mexican territories of California, New Mexico and Texas. Mexico saw U.S expansion as a threat. A man by the name of Stephen Austin made a deal with Mexico ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, through the opposites there are likenesses. There are many similarities and differences between Texas and Italy in many factors. The factors that compare between the two are their climate, landmarks and attractions, and lastly their culture. The one element that really unites Texas and Italy is their climate. They both share the characteristic of acquiring the sizzling and humid summers, however, Italy handles the heat with fearlessness. As being the hottest country between the two, Italy with boldness are not known for their air conditioned homes. Nonetheless, they have configured a solution to the heat and have architecturally established a solution. With Italy s little rainfall compared to Texas , their solution of enlarging the number of windows have since kept them cool and shielded from the little rainfall that they receive. Italy s rainfall seems scarce compared to Texas bountiful showers that are triple more than Italy s. However, the extra rain gained in Texas is lost to the more hours of sunlight received. ... • 5. Cesar Chavez Boycotts Throughout history many people have fought for civil rights in different ways. These historical figures can help show how to fight for civil rights today. Cesar Chavez, an activist and farm labor worker fought for civil rights through boycotts and marches. Methods such as those used by Cesar Chavez are just some ways people can fight for civil rights today. One effective way to fight for civil rights are boycotts. Cesar Chavez, an activist and farm labor worker, fought for the rights of immigrant farm workers through boycotts and marches. Ultimately, Cesar Chavez lead a successful boycott against California table grapes to fight for the rights of immigrant farm workers. Through boycotting unjust companies or ideas Cesar Chavez was able to achieve his goal of immigrant farm workers gaining rights.( 1984 Cesar Chavez... ) This provides evidence that boycotts can work and be successful. Although boycotts are not the only way you can fight for civil rights, there are other successful methods. There are other examples to support boycotts in being a good way to fight for civil rights such as the Montgomery Bus Boycott. The boycotts began in Montgomery, Alabama, to protest the segregated seating on buses of African Americans, and famously saw Rosa Parks refuse to give up her seat to a white man. ... • 6. Pornography Abuse And Violence Against Women There are obvious problems with society today regarding the presence of sexual violence and rape. The cause of these crimes is difficult to isolate, as it is also difficult material for researchers to complete studies on. We need a better definition of abuse, and it needs to be stated that the intelligence and mental instability can affect a man s actions. There can be a place in relationships for pornography as well, where women are consenting and desire to explore different material, not necessarily being dehumanized. While Fight the New Drug and Samantha Grey, the author of, A Letter to Men: Porn is Not Just Women s Problem, both present claims that pornography consumption leads to violence against women, and plea for society to reject pornography, there are unanswered questions and overlooked aspects that leave their argument unconvincing. A guideline of what defines abuse and violence needs to be established to properly examine pornography material. The texts presented high percentages of violence existing in the pornography films that were used to formulate data. However, there are no specifics regarding what violence is. Did the standards include elements of dirty talk, kink, spanking, or BDSM? Fight the New Drug states that In other words, in porn, people are getting beaten up and they re smiling about it. • 7. Trait Theory Of The Great Man Theory Trait Theory Bass (1990; Koh, 1990) posited the historical evolution of leadership as commencing with the trait theory in the 1930s until to 1940s , in which the assumption was that leaders were born with special qualities which made them effective leaders. As a result, distinction was employed on in discovering universal traits which stood out between leaders and non leaders (Koh, 1990). Early studies investigated traits such as Intelligence, dominance, age, sex, height, and weight, but at last the trait theory was disputed when confirmation could not be established that specific traits were connected with effective leaders (Koh, 1990; Yukl, 2002). Trait Theory expresses the concept of inherent leadership qualities rather than something one learns. A few studies show leaders are exceptional people who are born with qualities to lead (Clawson, 2006; Stogdill, 1948). Great Man Theory stipulates that leadership is inherent and there is no amount of training or coaching that can help an individual acquire leadership qualities; one must have it in oneself (Stogdill, 1948). Effective leadership has a great quest for responsibility and task completion. Often leaders do not get frustrated easily but are vigorous in pursuing organizational goals, take risks, do not shy away from solving problems, and are driven to take initiative in social situations (Clawson, 2006; Stogdill, 1948). Furthermore, as argued by Kirkpatrick and Locke (1993) evidence shows that traits do matter in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. D. H. Lawrence Essay It is a divided issue whether D. H. Lawrence is to be considered a friend or a foe to the feminist movement. On one hand, he advocates an egalitarian man woman relationship, on the other, his notion of equality seems rather subject to qualification. His reference to the ideal monogamous partnership as phallic marriage (Spilka 7) is certainly a cue that must be taken up. Why is marriage phallic unless the phallus is privileged in the expression of sexuality? (de Beauvoir 205) The idealisation of gender relationships leads to an essentialisation of gender, which is itself at the source of patriarchal domination. Is Lawrence really a liberator of sex, or only of patriarchal sex? Does he grant more independence to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is not because it is passionate or animalistic, it is because it is the meeting of two essentially opposed and alien forces the two halves of human experience the masculine and feminine. Sex is the balance of male and female in the universe, the attraction, the repulsion, always different, always new... Sex goes through the rhythm of the year, in man and woman, ceaselessly changing: the rhythm of the sun in his relation to the earth. Marriage is the clue to human life, ...[but] marriage is no marriage that is not basically and permanently phallic. (A Propos Lady Chatterly 40 42) He goes on to describe the phallus as the column of blood that fills the woman s valley of blood without ever breaking through and commingling. This ultimate nearness which still respects individuality is the deepest mystery of science and religion, both of which are invoked in the elaboration of Lawrence s theory. The problem, he feels with modern Europe is that sex is too egoistic and conscious; one has sex for and with oneself1[1] and not as part of the expression of natural forces. Only by abandoning the personal in sex can one hope to give rise to a new mystical state of experience. In the new superfine bliss, a peace superseding knowledge, there was no you and I, there was only the third, unrealised wonder, the wonder of existing not as oneself, but in a consummation of ... • 10. The Early Modern Atlantic Economy Edited by J. McCusker... On one hand a group of historian argues the notion that Brazil and the Caribbean experienced a sugar revolution while on the other hand another group argues that there was no such thing as a sugar revolution, what Brazil and Caribbean experienced was simply a sugar boom. In order to assess which group of historians is more accurate, one must first understand the concept of a sugar revolution and what factors must be present in order for a sugar revolution to occur. The concept of a sugar revolution is one that states there was a drastic change from the cultivation of tobacco to the cultivating of sugar cane, changing the country`s economy, politics and social structure within a short period of time. According to B.W. Higman there are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When sugar cane was introduced those planters who owned small plots of land either had to sell their land, merge their land with another planter and enter into a partnership or buy more land in order to grow sugar cane. Sugar cane could only be grown on large plots of land which ranged from 150 acres to 500 acres in Barbados and in Jamaica 300 acres to 5000 acres. The type of labour also changed within the Caribbean islands of Barbados, Jamaica, Nevis, Antigua and Montserrat from free labour to slave labour. Tobacco cultivation required a very small labour force, but with sugar as the new cash crop a large labour force was needed in which the Dutch provided by bringing African slaves. Therefore the white populations of these countries declined while the black populations increased due to the sugar revolution. Even though the governments of these Islands made efforts to keep the black to white ratio ten to one, according to Greenwood, Robert, Hamber, S, Dyde, Brian the ratio became extremely difficult to maintain during the years passed . This population change occurred during the early years of the sugar revolution up to the mid 1700s. In Barbados there were 18 000 whites and 5 500 blacks in 1645 and by 1660 there were 20 000 whites and 30 000 blacks while Jamaica had 4 500 whites and 1 500 blacks in 1658 to 8 500 whites to ... • 11. How Racing Share The Same Fundamentals Of Racing Regardless of if you enjoy racing or not, you likely know what either Nascar or Formula One is. In the United States of America, Nascar is by far the most popular form of racing. This popularity allows the sport to have its 4.5 billion [dollar] television contract that began in 2007 (Odland). Meanwhile in the rest of the world, Formula One is the most popular. Evidently, Formula One generates an immense amount of wealth as well. Red Bull, a sponsor in Formula One, is thought to have generated an estimated $283 million in brand exposure in just one season alone(Smith). Due to the fact that they are both forms of racing, a multitude of people group these two very different genres of racing together and claim that they are basically the same. While there are some central similarities, these are two abundantly different forms of racing. The most important and basic similarity is that both forms of racing share the same fundamentals of racing. The essential differences between the two include the cars that are driven as well as the tracks used for races. Both Nascar and Formula One share the same fundamentals of racing. The ultimate goal is to win every race that you possibly can. This is done by finishing before, often in front of, everyone else. In each form of racing, drivers take what are called pit stops. This is when a driver pulls into a designated area where his/her team is located. Then that teams provides car adjustments and fuel. These pit stops are critical ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 14. Church In The Canterbury Tales Canterbury is an English cathedral city which was a popular pilgrimage site in the Medieval Era. However, in the Middle Ages, the members of the clergy did not always live up to their lofty expectations and standards. The Church s credibility, at this time, was diminishing due to the actions of its officials. Geoffrey Chaucer, author of The Canterbury Tales, took this pilgrimage and along the way met a few of these questionable clerical figures. During the General Prologue of the work, Chaucer provides a comical representation of all the characters he meets on his journey. His description of clerical members, such as the Monk, criticize their actions and interests. In addition to the Monk, he meets a nun with questionable morals and a deceitful, selfish friar. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The idea of the Nun relaxing on this principle exhibits the decline of the Church s credibility. In addition to her lax fashion choices, the Nun spoils herself in her diet. Similar to monks, nuns maintained a very strict lifestyle. Chaucer s Nun fails to abide with this minimalist culture when it comes to food. Chaucer describes her as by no means undergown which insinuates that she is not a dainty woman like her peers (GP 160). Nuns, like monks, also prohibited the donning of jewelry or other items personal items. Once again, the Nun fails to observe this ideal and proceeds to bear a glaring brooch on her clothing (GP 164). In addition to this, Chaucer observes, She wore a coral trinket on her arm which further defies the monastic code (162). Furthermore, the Nun is by no means an upstanding member of the medieval clerical community. Chaucer s portrayal of the Nun as a immoral and pompous figure further aids the argument of the Church s hypocrisy. Continuing the themes of hypocrisy and corruption, Chaucer s Friar contradicts his divine position with his deceitful actions towards society. He exploits his position in order to get ... Equality 7 2521 was trying to create something that would establish a better future, and not continue to use what was made in the past. Another reason that it was not appropriate for Rand Paul to use Ayn Rand and Anthem to support his claim was because people in the United States have so much control over their choices compared to countries like North Korea. The fact that Paul thinks the United States will become like the dystopian society of Anthem is absurd. With the infitah opening Egypt s doors to the world, elements of the modern flooded in and the nation become a conglomeration of old and new, tradition and modern (Shechter 572). Conflicting views between how to incorporate modern and tradition into Egyptian culture impacted all levels of the nation. While the man is allowed to enter the world of money and exchange promised by capitalism, it is the female who must remain unaffected as a symbol of the nation s purity in contrast to the Western nations. She is still suppressed by cultural ideas that restrict and criminalize her body. Her virginity is not only a symbol of honor for her family, but also for her nation. While Egypt desired economic power and adapted western economic policies, they wished to keep their cultural and social traditions and further oppress the female as a symbol of sanctity.
