Cadillac Essay
Cadillac, the most iconic automobile group of America, was founded in 1902 by Henry Ford. The
brand came into existence because of the ruins of Henry Ford failed automobile company. When the
company assets were being measured for liquidation, Henry M. Leland came up with the idea of
manufacturing single cylinder engine automobiles. The new company Cadillac Automobiles was set
up and represented the luxury automobile segment of the America On July 29, 1909, the newly formed
General Motors Corporation (GM) acquired, the Cadillac Automobile Company, for $4.5 million,
making Cadillac its subsidiary. GM positioned Cadillac above all the other brands Buick, Oldsmobile,
Oakland, and Chevrolet.

Scenario Between Arnold, Bertram, Charlie, And Patice
Scenario Explained
The scenario between Arnold, Bertram, Charlie and Doris is a classic issue of offer and acceptance.
These are two elements of a valid contract. The scenario also raises its potential of being an invitation
to treat as this is a stark contrast to that of an offer. That is, we must consider whether the notice
placed on the car constitutes a valid offer or if it was a mere invitation to treat. If this notice does
amount to a valid offer where Arnold outlines the terms and conditions (the price at which he was
willing to sell and his telephone number) by which he is willing to be legally bound we must look at
the possible issues that may arise and what possible steps Arnold can take to deal with his situation.
Arnold appears to be the principal party who makes definite terms pertaining to the sale of his car,
from this we can conclude that the notice placed on his cars does in fact demonstrate a clear intent to
be legally bound. This is a unilateral offer where Arnold outlined the terms and condition to which he
is willing to be legally bound, he is inviting the public to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

there was no contract and there had been no authorized communication between the managers and Mr.

his acceptance he used a method that was quicker and more efficient that the one that was stipulated

Book Review on the French Revolution and the People Essay
For my report I read The French Revolution and the People by David Andress to learn what were the
reasons causing the French Revolutionary War. The main thesis of the book is the known problems
and reactions which affected the events and outcomes of the revolution in every stage, now everyone
in France was affected by the revolution. I agree with the author s thesis on many different levels.
Since the multiple troubles the people had at that time did not originate just then but decades before.
As well with constant economic pressure of all the upper classes upon them only worsened the
situation. Since all the troubles and problems of the poor were never looked after, now everyone in
France gets a taste of the revolution. First, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The churches collect tithes and since the right to collect tithes was owned by both the lay landowners

the church s services you still would be charged for weddings, baptisms, and funerals. In some cases
the clerics and the religious instructions to be both landowners and seigneurs, in turn being able to
claim rents and feudal dues from large numbers of peasants. Second, how seigneurialism did not get
rid of feudalism but only changed it for the seigneurs to get more power. Over time it shifted from
feudalism to more of a financial relationship since the lords wanted more money and they couldn t tax
serfs who didn t get paid. The seigneurs had many rights such over extensive land, an annual rent, a
share of harvest; fee if land has changed hands or inherited would be paid by past serfs. They also had
rights over the game in their land forbidding peasants from killing anything without privilege, as well
as the right to ride over peasant s crops during the pursuit of the game. Also more rights are honorary
pews in the front of the church and the weathercock on top of manor house. The seigneurs also had the
right to dispense justice so many tens of thousands of seigneurial courts were apart of villages. Also,
another problem that occurred during that time was a drought. France ran into a few climatic problems
in 1785 which lead a drought a major

Egil s Saga Essay
The author most likely intended for Egil s Saga to be a historical documentation of Scandinavia, its
culture, and several of its inhabitants. The tale could also be seen as a folk tale, set in a realistic setting
with real people, but the events are skewed and not quite right. The epic accomplishes the first
possible intention through its many characters, the use known locations, and basing the majority of the
tale around two individual families that would have been well known around the time it was written.
However, the tale is not entirely accurate, which strengthens the idea that it was more of a folk tale.
Throughout the epic the audience is introduced to two families, beginning far before the birth of the
man who would attributed to the title. The tale then follows these families through the events that led
up to the main plot of the epic, going so far as to keep detailed track of who married who and where
each character came from. An example of this would be the detailed description of Olaf on page 168
in chapter 79. This introduction not only ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This was due to most people being unable to read. Only those with enough money could afford to get
an education and learn how to read their own language. This meant that only a small portion of the
population would be able to read Egil s Saga. However, these educated individuals could read the
story aloud in Icelandic to a crowd. With this in mind the story was most likely spread primarily
through word of mouth. This is also shown through the style in which the piece was written.
Egil s Saga is quick paced and exaggerated, like a folk tale version of a family story. This stylistic
choice would keep an audience tuned in to the story and unsure of when to walk away from it. Each
chapter is filled with action and lacks any real downtime. Someone is always up to something that is at
least mildly exciting. This keeps most readers, or audience members, on their

Review Of James Fallows Learning To Love The New Media
Arguing that modern journalism is merging with the entertainment and online realms, James Fallows,
in Learning to Love the New Media, compares and contrasts today s modern press with the media of
years past. The media s role, Fallows believes, has always been to inform the public of information
without sole concern for profit; however, due to industry deregulation and the advent of the Internet,
journalists are increasingly writing stories targeted for public desire rather than for civic service.
According to some, this shift in journalistic intention is causing American news to present fewer
viable solutions to real world problems and has ultimately made it less objective. Fallows, considering
the past, highlights how historical

Reflection On Self Development Through Reflection
Self development through reflection is a key issue of education and learning (Kennison, 2012), where
you learn through experience (Tashiro, Shimpuku, Naruse and Matsutani, 2013), learn to self evaluate
(Duffy, 2013), identify gaps in knowledge and detect where further training or study is required to
improve practice (Olarerin, 2013). Ultimately reflection is thought to be constant learning from
practice, thus refining knowledge and experiences and putting them into practice (Naidoo, 2013).
Within my reflection examples (Appendix 1) I recognised where my knowledge and experience was
lacking, through self evaluation. For instance when completing an electrocardiogram (ECG). I learned
through my extra reading, how completing an ECG incorrectly could cause the patient to require un
necessary treatment (Houghton, 2014). Through my extra study I was able to learn where exactly
where the electrodes are positioned on the body for an accurate EGC tracing to be produced
(Crawford and Doherty, 2012; University of Nottingham, 2015). I used this knowledge throughout my
placement and I am now confident in conducting ECG s in my future practice. In achieving self
development in this example I linked my learning directly to my practice (Ross, 2014), where I
developed a fundamental skill and expanded my knowledge for my continued development in my
nursing career and practice (Aronson, 2011).
Nursing practice
Nursing practice is a key issue within reflective practice. It supports

Ralph Waldo Emerson Analysis
Ralph Waldo Emerson gave a speech to the men of the Phi Beta Kappa Society at Cambridge
University entitled The American Scholar in 1837. The speech focused on the main ideas of
transcendentalism as well as how different factors in society affect man s ability to realize that they
are their own individuals. Harold Bloom, a well known literary critic who evaluated topics such as the
bible and Shakespeare, believed that Emerson s writing was the template for all future authors. Bloom
believed that adversity allows people to have a deeper understanding of the world. However, Emerson
focused on the loss of knowledge in the society due to the misunderstanding of younger generations in
his time period while Bloom mainly focused on how Emerson s views on individualism and
transcendentalism affected all writing whether admitted or not. Harold Bloom was correct in his
critique, Out of Panic, Self Reliance published in 2008, when he confirmed Ralph Waldo Emerson s
view point in his speech The American Scholar (1837) stating that overcoming adversity is an
essential part to gaining wisdom and forming self reliance by comparing it to current political events
in order to show once again that Ralph Waldo Emerson was very influential to not only authors but to
the overall evolution of man s thoughts. It can be inferred from Emerson that the adversity that he so
deeply describes throughout his speech could be man s eternal struggle to discover his own self
reliance and experience real world connections instead of just reading about them and not fully
understanding or even comprehending the meaning of what is being read. Ralph Waldo Emerson
separates society into two groups known as Man Thinking ( Emerson 2) who has allowed himself to
be open to new ways of life and understanding and Mere thinkers (Emerson 2) who simply follow the
trends and patterns society without any thought of their own. He believes the Mere thinkers are
inevitable lost in adversity and do not fully understand transcendentalist ideas. Nevertheless, it will
never be too late to find self reliance and contribute an opinion to the world thus diversifying society.
When people finally rise above adversity they recognize the god within themselves

Creatine and its Dangers Essay
Creatine and its Dangers
Creatine is a very controversial supplement on the market today. Many endorse the uses of creatine,
but others are skeptical about the advantage a person receives from taking it and the dangers one
inherits as a result of creatine consumption. The debate remains due to the short amount of time that
creatine has been available. People base their opinions on preliminary studies that have been done but
no one knows the long term effects of creatine on the body. Many take the risk without vast
knowledge, but others still remain skeptical based on preliminary evidence that discourages the intake
of creatine.

Creatine allows for increased storage of ATP. The transfer of a molecule of phosphorous from creatine
phosphate to adenosine diphosphate(ADP) results in the formation of ATP. ...since the muscle creatine
phosphate concentrations can fall to almost zero, it(creatine consumption) can make a significant
contribution to the energy supply needed for brief bursts of very high intensity exercise, says Dr.
Bolotte. The equation for the synthesis of ATP from creatine phosphate and ADP is as follows: PCr +
ADP forms ATP + Cr. (http://www.lsms.org/journal/98creat.html) Also, lactic acid levels, which cause
muscles to burn during workouts, are lowered by the consumption of creatine. Without the burning
sensation, athletes don t feel the need to stop exercising. Athletes begin their creatine process with a
loading phase of twenty grams per day for five days. Then, they consume three to five grams per day.
(http://www.mothernature.com/ency/supp/creatine_monohydrate.asp) Many studies have exhibited
gains after this process of consumption.
The Theory Behind Creatine
The supplement creatine is used for faster recovery for muscles after short periods of exercise. The
theory is an athlete on creatine can exhibit more explosive bursts of energy allowing for longer weight
workouts, more sprints, etc. Increased muscle mass and bulk are two of the ideas behind creatine, but
they only occur as long as people work out while taking the substance. It doesn t create

White In The Great Gatsby
White is colour at its most complete and pure, the colour of perfection. The colour meaning of white is
purity, innocence, wholeness and completion. The colour white was introduced into the novel when
Daisy was described as wearing a white dress. The dress showed her as having a pure and innocent
personality. It was actually ironic that she wore white because the reader knows of her true
characteristics, even though she was represented as lovable character in the book and as well as the
movie. The white covered the fact that she was having an affair with Gatsby. White can also
sometimes symbolize honesty, which is something Nick looked for in people. The narrator and Gatsby
were both honest men and became friends because of it. Nick stopped dating Jordan Baker ... Show

Gatsby surprised her by making an appearance shortly after she arrived. The nervous Jay Gatsby
knocked over and broke a clock while trying to keep his cool around Daisy. This symbolized how time
stopped for the two of them when Gatsby went to war. Gatsby wished things could go back to how
they were before Daisy married Tom, but inside he knew that it was impossible then. The clock
breaking could also be seen as the end of Gatsby s time. It foreshadowed that his time was running
short and soon something might happen to prevent him from marrying Daisy. In the end, Wilson cut
Gatsby s time short by killing him, for basically no reason as he didn t even kill Myrtle. Overall, the
clock represented time and how it played a reoccurring roll in the novel. Time separated Daisy and
Gatsby from getting married five years prior to the setting of the story. The breaking of the clock
showed a sudden change in the steady pace of time. White is not only mentioned related to Gatsby, but
as Nick went to see Daisy for the first time, over at Tom Buchanan house, Tom said that he is
concerned about a book he recently read called The Rise of the Coloured

Colonial Apothecaries Essay
Colonial Research Project
Sarah Kong
February 26, 2018
Apothecary; noun a person who prepared and sold medicine and drugs. Have you ever wondered what
came before doctors? That kind of occupation was for apothecaries. I chose this particular job for my
research project because apothecaries use a lot of interesting objects, and were way different than
present day doctors and pharmacists.
In Europe, folks who were selling wine, spices, and herbs were known as apothecaries. They prepared
and sold medicine directly to patients. Apothecaries also gave out medical advice and sold out many
different products.
Colonial apothecaries practiced as doctors, made house calls to treat patients, provided medical
treatment, prescribed medicine, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They are very similar. Both used chalk for heartburn, calamine for skin irritations, and cinchona bark
for fevers. Later, apothecaries found out that cinchona bark contained quinine for malaria, and
quinidine for cardiac problems. But medical treatment was very expensive, so that led to the colonists
to self diagnose and treat their own problems.
Medical treatment was expensive and people frequently diagnose themselves, and the way they treated
themselves was (1. The remedy was passed down from tradition, (2. They were guided by folklore, or
(3. by books. To cure headaches, for example, the colonists often used a remedy that contained roses
and vinegar. The rose petals are steeped into vinegar, and then they were applied topically.
In some trades, the apothecaries skill and knowledge were secret, and little about them were published
in books. For apothecaries and surgeons, there were textbooks, and many of them survived. The
National Library of Medicine, the nation s largest medical library, published a bibliography of the
eighteenth century books in its collection. Most of the 501 pages are titles of things such as medical
theory, midwifery, pharmacy, surgery, and diseases. Apothecaries were crucial to

Becoming A Surgeon Research Paper
However good things often, if not always, come with a price (no pun intended). A surgeon s work
hours is almost never consistent; he/she may have to work only 2 hours one day but would need to
work a 48 hour shift the next day. Surgeons also hold an on call job; so when they are required, all
plans need to be cancelled for them to be at their job. These long hours mean there isn t much time to
spend with family. Surgeons tend to spend more time at work with their team than at home with their
family. Leisure time for surgeons can be considered non existent in many cases. The process of
becoming a surgeon is rigorous and stressful. It takes at least 12 years after Year 12 of studying and
training to earn the title of a fully qualified surgeon. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Self evaluation:
This career investigation has revealed to me that becoming a surgeon isn t all rainbows and daisies; it
isn t what I watch on Grey s Anatomy. From what I ve gathered, surgeons enjoy most of their life
within a clinic or hospital saving and helping patients. Wording it this way makes the job seem
extremely boring. But I can t word it any other way; it is the truth. I have always been a people s
person and it has always been a passion of mine to be able to help someone out. Taking the lifeguard
course has fuelled my desire to give to the society. Wherever the location, I would try to help someone
the best I can. I believe surgeons have one intention: to help a patient as best they can.
Communication has never been an issue for me as I tend to listen intently and try to speak to someone
in the clearest way possible. Problem solving and learning has always been a strength and something I
have grown up enjoying. My life, like many others, has been through a lot of ups and downs. Family
issues and emergencies do have a certain effect on me but over the years, I ve learnt to deal with the
burden and the stress. These common traits demonstrates that I may have the capability of tackling the

Silent Manipulation Alex Proyas’ film I, Robot
From the moment humans are born, they are shaped by the world around them and chances are that
the media plays a huge role in shaping their identity. To the music they listen to, to fashion trends, to
their beliefs, the news outlets and television shows could be held responsible. In 2004, the media had a
much greater influence over American citizens because of the historical context of the time. Alex
Proyas film I, Robot had taken advantage of the fact that people had become so easily influenced by
the media. Set in the year 2035, a robotics company named US Robotics has engulfed American life to
the point where every household has a robot, and citizens have become dependent on their help.
Sonny, a robot programmed with the ability to think, feel and have dreams enables a robot fearing
detective named Del Spooner to see through the lies of the corporation. Through the use of Sonny s
character development, subtle advertisement sequences, and distinct film choices such as the context
of specific scenes, Proyas is able to portray the suppression of thought and individuality in a futuristic
society told what to think and feel through US Robotics media propaganda. Through this, Proyas is
indirectly criticizing the 2004 audience in which was being told what to think and how to feel through
the various media outlets that would report on the political campaigns happening at the time as well as
the fear of the ongoing war with Iraq. At one point, Sonny becomes captured by the police

From about 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM, many customers come in for lunch and from 5:30 PM to about
8:00 PM, there is a dinner rush. During these periods, servers receive many tips due to the large
volume of customers. But during the period between the lunch and dinner rushes and the period after
the dinner rush, generally, restaurants receive a lot fewer customers, which is something I can attest to
having worked in a restaurant this past summer. During these down periods, servers are not acquiring

In addition, restaurant business is very dependent on the time of the year. While these seasonal

fluctuations in business to be a reality. I worked in a restaurant in Williamstown, Massachusetts,

The Influence Of Center-Based Preschool Education
In today s society, with its evolving academic demands, parents are confronted with the decision of
how to best educate their young children. Since the formative years are critical to academic success,
this decision becomes increasingly important (Ray Smith, 2010). With a myriad of early learning
opportunities accessible through parental and non parental daycares and preschools, parents are
perplexed with the dilemma of when and where to enroll their child. Previous research indicates that
preschool education plays a significant role in school readiness (Henry, Gordon, Henderson, Ponder,
2003). It provides the foundation for future success (Barnett, 2008).

from zero to four (Aertgeerts, et al., 2004). This screening apparatus is simply administered and
scored and can often times be committed to memory. The CAGE can be used in general medical
populations in a primary care setting and be administered at no cost to adults and adolescents over the
age of 16 (Aertgeerts, et al., 2004). It has been distinguished that the CAGE takes less than one minute
to manage and score. However, it does not screen for drug related difficulties (Aertgeerts, et al., 2004).
The CAGE has been used in numerous cultures worldwide, but often vigilant rendition is essential to
maintain accurateness (Aertgeerts, et al., 2004). However, the CAGE presented with inferior
performance than the AUDIT in recognizing alcohol use disorders amongst African American men,
white women, and Mexican American patients (Bradley, et al., 2007). The CAGE has been found to
perform poorly in younger age groups. Some propose that this is for the reason that the items may be
less pertinent to adolescent populations, such as morning

The Importance Of Critical Pedagogy In Education
A University must empower the students that attend, in order to fully prepare them for their future, and
careers. In order to feel empowered, one must feel confident, and respected. In the Greenville
University men s soccer program, much like many other college sports teams, have a dysfunctional
class ranking system that thrives on inequity, subsequently our program has been challenged to model
a brotherhood that does not see class rankings, but rather appreciates each, and every individual
regardless of their age, or class. Critical pedagogy allows students to speak with greater authority
because they are drawing on knowledge they already possess (Critical Pedagogy, Butler and
McCunn). Critical pedagogy is an idea that each student will possess a different power, and
knowledge that will empower the students, and teachers combined. Allowing the students to work off
of the knowledge they already possess, allows the students to speak through the different lenses that
each one has. Instead of having a teacher teach through only one lens, their very own, critical
pedagogy allows a fair conversation, and a just world, because it allows each person to have a voice.
The syllabus put it very simply, but elegantly that I must use the wording, In general critical pedagogy
acquaints students with societal structures that reinforce inequity and invites and empowers them to
engage with their communities and to be agents of change in their communities (Syllabus, Malone).

Braveheart Persuasive Speech
Imagine having the chance to fight for your country. As you remove your blade from the man you just
killed, you see one of your men getting gutted in half by the enemy, so you jolt up in a full stride down
the battlefield towards your target to carry out revenge. As you run the screams of the wounded cloud
your ears, and as you get closer you are faced with enemies hurling at you from left and right
inflicting wounds that would have any other man on their knees; nevertheless, you are no ordinary
man. You have the heart of a warrior. Finally, as you are mere strides away from killing your target

After the beheading of William Wallace, Robert the Bruce (Angus McFadyen), rode out to pay

ends up inspiring the Scots men to fight on. According, to Tim O Brien s How to Tell a True War Story
, war story, If you feel that some small bit of rectitude has been salvaged from the larger waste, then
you have been made the victim of a very old and terrible lie (65). Therefore, this scene violates O
Brien s paradigm of a true war story because it is uplifting. After the beheading of William Wallace,
Robert the Bruce rode out to pay homage to the armies of the English king and accept his endorsement
of his crown. The scene begins with an extreme long shot of the Scots as they stand facing the
English. In a medium shot, Craig, his advisor says, Come. Let s get it over with. Robert looks to him
agrees, and they both begin to walk their horses towards the English men. Suddenly, the camera
switches to a medium close up, and Robert yells, Stop! You have bled with Wallace, now bleed with
me! Next, the musical score in the scene begins to get louder and louder. Hamish (Andrew Weir) looks
to Robert the Bruce, removes a sword from its carrier and throws it in the air and it lands in the middle
of the battlefield. Then, captured in an extreme long shot, the Scots synchronously begin to chant,
Wallace! Lastly, Robert and the Scots raise their swords, and charge towards the English in slow
motion, as a narrator s commentary is done by William Wallace, In the year of our Lord 1314, patriots
of Scotland, starving and outnumbered, charged the fields at Bannockburn. They fought like warrior
poets. They fought like Scotsmen. And won their freedom. First, off the scene beginning with Craig

The Honorable Men Summary
Kenneth S. Greenberg attempts to translate the language of the honorable men in the antebellum
South. Although they spoke English, words and gestures held a different meaning to them than what a
common person might think. His goal is to help us understand the interactions of these men so we can
get a glimpse into their world during this time period where slavery transpired, honor meant more than
life itself, and Civil War was on the verge. If you were to observe a conversation between southern
gentlemen, you would think you knew exactly what they were discussing. In reality, they have an
entire different meaning to the common words we use in the English language. Everything they say
and do needs to be taken into context of their situation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When most people think of a gift exchange, they picture neatly wrapped presents on Christmas
morning, however, the gift exchange of southern men was very different than this image. These
encounters seemed like ordinary market exchanges, yet they were much different. A gift was given out
of generosity, meaning the giver expected nothing in return. For example, a man of honor recognizes
that a woman s husband has died and she must support her family alone. Instead of only buying one
cup of coffee from her café a day, he now purchases three so she will gain a greater profit even though
he does not want to drink three cups. Although it may appear as a market exchange because the man is
receiving coffee, it is actually a gift to the widow. Duels and gift exchanges are directly related as
well. Only honorable men were capable of giving gifts just like they were the only people who could
participate in duels. It was considered honorable for men to duel in order to settle disputes. Therefore,
when a man offered to duel another, he was giving him a gift of an opportunity to show his integrity.
Men of honor were capable of giving gifts because they owned things unlike slaves. Slaves could not
give anything because they did not possess anything. It would be insulting for a white man to receive a
gift from a

College in The Modern Age
Throughout the first unit we have explored the reasons as to why college may not be the best fit for
some. I believe that, like a majority of children, I was raised on the basis that a college degree was
needed to be successful. Many may think of higher education as a giant Ponzi scheme, where students
are lured into the promise of receiving high paying jobs due to the fact they attended University.
Today I realize that a college degree isn t a guarantee that you ll be successful rather it is a way to gain
the edge against peers. In this paper, I am going to further evaluate why college was the best fit for
me, and how I came to that conclusion.

Hydrates Lab
The properties of hydrates lab centralized on discovering the characteristics of hydrates, such as the
percentage of water contained, determining if dehydration is reversible or not, as well as the
mathematical relationship of mass lost during dehydration. Hydrates contain water molecules in their
crystalline structure these molecules possess the capability of being removed by heat. By applying
water to the dehydrated substance, it can then be determined if the reaction is irreversible or not. This
could be applied to the real world in terms of dehydrated food. According to CK 12, by removing
water from food, commonly referred to as MREs (Meals Ready to Eat), an individual is capable of

The substance evolved some in the form of color, turning from blue to white, however it s overall
consistency remained the same, despite the difference in mass. Conversely, some substances such as
Epsom salt, do not undergo such a drastic alteration during the transformation to an anhydrous state.
Due to the transformation of the hydrated copper sulfate to its original color upon adding water, it can
be concluded that some hydrates do possess the capability of being rehydrated after dehydration and
vice versa. Yet other substances, like sugar, do not possess this capability due to the fact its overall
structure was changed upon applying heat. Applying heat to sugar involves the removal of water and
an overall breakdown of the substance. Once broken down, the sugar does not possess the capability
of reverting back to its original granule state, so it is an irreversible

concept is a general notion plan idea or intention; conception. An idea of something formed by
mentally combining all its characteristics or particulars; a construct. And finally shaping our

what we already know change how we see the world. I agree that what we already know and have
general ideas of can change how we see things. Like with the AOK history. The concept of history can
change the way Caucasians or African Americans view slavery. White people may view slavery as a
good thing or a bad thing and view black people as equals or not. They may feel horrible about what
their people has done to African Americans in the past and become sympathetic to them.White people
may feel guilty. African Americans may not be as understanding to white people. White people were
responsible for slavery.Slavery was cruel and brutal. It broke up families, limited life choice and
resulted in the death of many African Americans. They were dehumanized by Caucasians which is
something that black people still suffer from today. Things like police brutality and white privilege

A Brief Look at Poliomyelitis
INTRODUCTION Poliomyelitis is often called polio, this polio is an acute infectious disease caused
by a virus which can spread from person to person via the fecal oral route. The term poliomyelitis
means inflammation of the spinal cord of the grey matter. In severe poliomyelitis infection it can
expand to the brainstem. Polio is so contagious that anyone living with a person that is recently
affected can spread the virus for weeks in their feces. It invades the nervous system and spread within
hours. Poliomyelitis causes infection with a member of the genus called the enterovirus which is
known as the poliovirus. It belongs to a group of Ribonucleic acid (RNA) viruses which affects the
gastrointestinal tract especially the intestine and the oropharynx. Its structure is very simple,
composed of a single positive sense RNA genome which is enclosed in a protein shell called the
capsid. The capsid apart from protecting the virus genetic material, it capsid protein also make the
polio virus to infect some certain types of cells. There are three serotypes of poliovirus that have been
identified; it includes the poliovirus type 1, poliovirus type of 2 and poliovirus 3. They all look similar
but have a small different structure in its capsid protein. The poliovirus type 1 is the one that causes
most of the disease and is mostly associated with paralysis. Poliomyelitis can come in two ways of
polio infection .There is a minor illness which does not involve the Central

In The Article Link Of Adolescent’S Identity Development
In the article Link of Adolescent s Identity Development and Relationship with Peers by Tija
Ragelienė, the author discussed the correlation that positive relationships with friends have on an
adolescent s identity development. The article starts out by explaining how exploring different
identities is important for adolescents. Adolescents need to explore and construct their identity in order
to find their place in society. One theorist believes that identity is more or less represented through self
realizing activities where they feel like they are worth something. However, according to another
theorist, Berzonsky, identity is actually how a person processes and examines identity relevant
information (Ragelienė 98). Another definition ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition, Ragelienė writes that self comparison with their peers is important when determining
adolescents identities. Research demonstrated that peer groups are essential in this development
because members of a peer group tend to behave the same way as the rest of the group. In a way, a
peer group provides a necessary social status in their identity development. Additionally, more
research has supported this connection. According to the author, supportive relationships correlate
with positive identity development by preventing stagnation in the exploration process. Overall, the
secure attachment and feeling of belonging in these peer groups relate to the positive development in
adolescents identity exploration. Furthermore, the article reveals several studies that were done to
further support that the better the peer relationship, the better the identity development. For example,
in a correlational analysis study done by Nawaz, it was found that the attachment to peers is positively
connected to the adolescent s identity development. The correlation coefficient of identity
development and the attachment to peers was higher than the coefficient of attachment to parents.
According to the author, an achieved sense of identity is positively associated with attachment to
peers, adolescents orientation to the formal peer groups achievements, stability and robustness in
romantic relationships, better relationships with peers, and reduced sense of

the reason behind it. The aura refers to the one timeness of the experience of a certain object, which
can be possessed only by the original work of art itself, and therefore cannot be reproduced. In

Midterm Paper I chose to do my research and reading on The Screwtape Letters written by C.S Lewis,
which is a novel written in unique perspective of a Senior Devil named Screwtape who writes thirty
one letters to his nephew Wormwood who can be considered somewhat of a novice devil or demon of
some sort. In these letters, as readers, we find that they are undated and that they are meant to offer
advice to his younger demon nephew as he attempts to steal the soul of a human, referred to as the
patient . We are first introduced to the concept of the patient rather than the human when Screwtape
explains to Wormwood about one of his first experiences with one. In his first letter, Screwtape
explains that the best way to lose the human is if the human somehow decides to use reason because at
that point, his reason will take him to God. He does this by teaching his nephew that, Your business is
to fix his attention on the stream. Teach him to call it real life and don t let him ask what he means by
real (2). Ironically, the devil s resort to calling God, the Enemy . We are first introduced to this idea in
the introduction on the first letter when Screwtape states that The trouble about argument is that it
moves the whole struggle on to the Enemy s ground (2). Wormwood must find his opportunities by
getting his patient to make unwise choices or let his emotions get the best of him. When the patient

Marxist Reading Of The Rainbow Fish
In a world of instant gratification and endless options of items that are always up for purchase, it is
easy to engage in the hype. These material items that society puts such a high value on create
separations of wealth amongst the people, in turn creating the proletariat and the bourgeoisie. In a
nutshell, The Rainbow Fish by Marcus Pfister is a story about a fish with many beautiful scales who
refuses to give any of them to the less fortunate fish. Though at a first glance, The Rainbow Fish
seems to simply be a children s lesson on the importance of sharing. But, at a closer look this story
reveals that is in fact a criticism on society enveloping itself in the Marxist theory. Marxism focuses
on the effects of the separation of wealth ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He puts an extremely high value on his possessions. In turn, because of this high value, these
possessions determine his self worth. An example of this commodification shows in the story where
all of the other fish begin to ignore Rainbow Fish because he refuses to share. In the text, it states,
What good were the dazzling, shimmering scales with no one to admire them? Now he was the
loneliest fish in the entire ocean (Pfister 10). Commodification is prevalent as Rainbow Fish selfishly
only focuses on himself. He does not want the scales for their usefulness, he only wants them when
other fish are there to admire them. Rainbow Fish only wants the scales if they give him a higher
social status. If no one is there to compliment him, then the scales mean nothing to him. Additionally,
Rainbow Fish exhibits commodification when he thinks about giving away his scales. Rainbow Fish
states, Give away my scales? My beautiful shining scales? Never. How could I ever be happy without
them (Pfister 16). Rainbow Fish allows material items to impact his life so greatly that they determine
his happiness. Rainbow Fish is so commodified that even the thought of giving away his scales
triggers unhappiness and worry. Rather than basing happiness off of good works and personality, he
bases it off of how much material he has. He infatuates so much with himself that he fails to recognize
that the scaleless proletarians are content. Rainbow Fish fears changes from the lifestyle he is
accustomed to, in turn reflecting on the materialistic values held by the bourgeoisie. The material

Slobodan Miloševićs role in the destruction of Yugoslavia
Slobodan Milošević was an instrumental part of the Yugoslav Wars, his actions were the greatest

Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT)
Important Reminders When Getting Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy [PART I]
Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT) also known as natural hormone therapy works
when Bioidentical hormones act in the body just like the hormones we produce. It is primarily used to
reduce the symptoms of menopause. Today, it is also used for clinical testing of blood and saliva, for
anti aging purposes, and overall improving the quality of life for women who have symptoms of
menopause.
Bioidentical hormones have the exact molecular structure of those endogenous or natural hormones in
a person s body and produce the same physiochemical responses. However, only a few women
understand the importance of bioidentical hormones because they are mostly focused on the source of
the hormones rather than the effects produced. If BHRT is not given appropriately, it may lead to

The angles that women should know are these three (3) important reminders, especially when talking
about covering hormone supplementation.
Reminder #1 Choose BHRT when you are truly deficient with hormones
This is common sense. You should not take insulin when you still have enough. Some women get
paranoid over the notion that they are reaching 40 and that means menopause and menopause mean
you become estrogen deficient. Yes, we understand that you do not want them to leave the building.
But BHRT is for people who have the hormone deficiency.
The typical assumption of the conventional medicine is that women after menopause become deficient
with estrogen; however, this assumption is false. However, all credible experts agree that over 66% of
women ages 80 and up still continue to make all the estrogen they need. Because of an aromatase
enzyme, women still make estrogen even with the ovaries removed.
You would know that you have enough estrogen in the body when:

Cal Polyy s Production Of The Crucible
Last week, I attended Cal Poly s production of the Crucible that was shown in Spanos Theatre. The
original playwright is Arthur Miller; In the school s adaption of the play, it was directed by Heidi L.
Ness and consisted of a cast of about 20 actors. The overall production of the play was well done, but

processes around stable business practices that provide a sound framework that is vital within the
institutions mindset (Amare, 2012). Research will then illustrate the relevance of constructing a
contract process model that gives explicit instructions, which includes standard business practice
within an institution. Concurrently, it promotes quality products and services, highlights deficiencies

  • 3. Scenario Between Arnold, Bertram, Charlie, And Patice Scenario Explained The scenario between Arnold, Bertram, Charlie and Doris is a classic issue of offer and acceptance. These are two elements of a valid contract. The scenario also raises its potential of being an invitation to treat as this is a stark contrast to that of an offer. That is, we must consider whether the notice placed on the car constitutes a valid offer or if it was a mere invitation to treat. If this notice does amount to a valid offer where Arnold outlines the terms and conditions (the price at which he was willing to sell and his telephone number) by which he is willing to be legally bound we must look at the possible issues that may arise and what possible steps Arnold can take to deal with his situation. Arnold appears to be the principal party who makes definite terms pertaining to the sale of his car, from this we can conclude that the notice placed on his cars does in fact demonstrate a clear intent to be legally bound. This is a unilateral offer where Arnold outlined the terms and condition to which he is willing to be legally bound, he is inviting the public to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Book Review on the French Revolution and the People Essay For my report I read The French Revolution and the People by David Andress to learn what were the reasons causing the French Revolutionary War. The main thesis of the book is the known problems and reactions which affected the events and outcomes of the revolution in every stage, now everyone in France was affected by the revolution. I agree with the author s thesis on many different levels. Since the multiple troubles the people had at that time did not originate just then but decades before. As well with constant economic pressure of all the upper classes upon them only worsened the situation. Since all the troubles and problems of the poor were never looked after, now everyone in France gets a taste of the revolution. First, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In some cases the clerics and the religious instructions to be both landowners and seigneurs, in turn being able to claim rents and feudal dues from large numbers of peasants. Second, how seigneurialism did not get rid of feudalism but only changed it for the seigneurs to get more power. Over time it shifted from feudalism to more of a financial relationship since the lords wanted more money and they couldn t tax serfs who didn t get paid. The seigneurs had many rights such over extensive land, an annual rent, a share of harvest; fee if land has changed hands or inherited would be paid by past serfs. They also had rights over the game in their land forbidding peasants from killing anything without privilege, as well as the right to ride over peasant s crops during the pursuit of the game. Also more rights are honorary pews in the front of the church and the weathercock on top of manor house. The seigneurs also had the right to dispense justice so many tens of thousands of seigneurial courts were apart of villages. Also, another problem that occurred during that time was a drought. • 5. Egil s Saga Essay The author most likely intended for Egil s Saga to be a historical documentation of Scandinavia, its culture, and several of its inhabitants. The tale could also be seen as a folk tale, set in a realistic setting with real people, but the events are skewed and not quite right. The epic accomplishes the first possible intention through its many characters, the use known locations, and basing the majority of the tale around two individual families that would have been well known around the time it was written. However, the tale is not entirely accurate, which strengthens the idea that it was more of a folk tale. Throughout the epic the audience is introduced to two families, beginning far before the birth of the man who would attributed to the title. The tale then follows these families through the events that led up to the main plot of the epic, going so far as to keep detailed track of who married who and where each character came from. With this in mind the story was most likely spread primarily through word of mouth. This is also shown through the style in which the piece was written. Egil s Saga is quick paced and exaggerated, like a folk tale version of a family story. This stylistic choice would keep an audience tuned in to the story and unsure of when to walk away from it. Review Of James Fallows Learning To Love The New Media Arguing that modern journalism is merging with the entertainment and online realms, James Fallows, in Learning to Love the New Media, compares and contrasts today s modern press with the media of years past. The media s role, Fallows believes, has always been to inform the public of information without sole concern for profit; however, due to industry deregulation and the advent of the Internet, journalists are increasingly writing stories targeted for public desire rather than for civic service. According to some, this shift in journalistic intention is causing American news to present fewer viable solutions to real world problems and has ultimately made it less objective. • 7. Reflection On Self Development Through Reflection Self development through reflection is a key issue of education and learning (Kennison, 2012), where you learn through experience (Tashiro, Shimpuku, Naruse and Matsutani, 2013), learn to self evaluate (Duffy, 2013), identify gaps in knowledge and detect where further training or study is required to improve practice (Olarerin, 2013). Ultimately reflection is thought to be constant learning from practice, thus refining knowledge and experiences and putting them into practice (Naidoo, 2013). Within my reflection examples (Appendix 1) I recognised where my knowledge and experience was lacking, through self evaluation. For instance when completing an electrocardiogram (ECG). I learned through my extra reading, how completing an ECG incorrectly could cause the patient to require un necessary treatment (Houghton, 2014). Through my extra study I was able to learn where exactly where the electrodes are positioned on the body for an accurate EGC tracing to be produced (Crawford and Doherty, 2012; University of Nottingham, 2015). I used this knowledge throughout my placement and I am now confident in conducting ECG s in my future practice. In achieving self development in this example I linked my learning directly to my practice (Ross, 2014), where I developed a fundamental skill and expanded my knowledge for my continued development in my nursing career and practice (Aronson, 2011). • 8. Ralph Waldo Emerson Analysis Ralph Waldo Emerson gave a speech to the men of the Phi Beta Kappa Society at Cambridge University entitled The American Scholar in 1837. The speech focused on the main ideas of transcendentalism as well as how different factors in society affect man s ability to realize that they are their own individuals. Harold Bloom, a well known literary critic who evaluated topics such as the bible and Shakespeare, believed that Emerson s writing was the template for all future authors. Bloom believed that adversity allows people to have a deeper understanding of the world. However, Emerson focused on the loss of knowledge in the society due to the misunderstanding of younger generations in his time period while Bloom mainly focused on how Emerson s views on individualism and transcendentalism affected all writing whether admitted or not. Harold Bloom was correct in his critique, Out of Panic, Self Reliance published in 2008, when he confirmed Ralph Waldo Emerson s view point in his speech The American Scholar (1837) stating that overcoming adversity is an essential part to gaining wisdom and forming self reliance by comparing it to current political events in order to show once again that Ralph Waldo Emerson was very influential to not only authors but to the overall evolution of man s thoughts. It can be inferred from Emerson that the adversity that he so deeply describes throughout his speech could be man s eternal struggle to discover his own self reliance and experience real world connections instead of just reading about them and not fully understanding or even comprehending the meaning of what is being read. Ralph Waldo Emerson separates society into two groups known as Man Thinking ( Emerson 2) who has allowed himself to be open to new ways of life and understanding and Mere thinkers (Emerson 2) who simply follow the trends and patterns society without any thought of their own. He believes the Mere thinkers are inevitable lost in adversity and do not fully understand transcendentalist ideas. Nevertheless, it will never be too late to find self reliance and contribute an opinion to the world thus diversifying society. When people finally rise above adversity they recognize the god within themselves ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The colour white was introduced into the novel when Daisy was described as wearing a white dress. The dress showed her as having a pure and innocent personality. It was actually ironic that she wore white because the reader knows of her true characteristics, even though she was represented as lovable character in the book and as well as the movie. It foreshadowed that his time was running short and soon something might happen to prevent him from marrying Daisy. In the end, Wilson cut Gatsby s time short by killing him, for basically no reason as he didn t even kill Myrtle. In 2004, the media had a much greater influence over American citizens because of the historical context of the time. • 25. The Honorable Men Summary Kenneth S. Greenberg attempts to translate the language of the honorable men in the antebellum South. Although they spoke English, words and gestures held a different meaning to them than what a common person might think. His goal is to help us understand the interactions of these men so we can get a glimpse into their world during this time period where slavery transpired, honor meant more than life itself, and Civil War was on the verge. If you were to observe a conversation between southern gentlemen, you would think you knew exactly what they were discussing. In reality, they have an entire different meaning to the common words we use in the English language. Everything they say and do needs to be taken into context of their situation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When most people think of a gift exchange, they picture neatly wrapped presents on Christmas morning, however, the gift exchange of southern men was very different than this image. These encounters seemed like ordinary market exchanges, yet they were much different. A gift was given out of generosity, meaning the giver expected nothing in return. For example, a man of honor recognizes that a woman s husband has died and she must support her family alone. Instead of only buying one cup of coffee from her café a day, he now purchases three so she will gain a greater profit even though he does not want to drink three cups. Although it may appear as a market exchange because the man is receiving coffee, it is actually a gift to the widow. Duels and gift exchanges are directly related as well. Only honorable men were capable of giving gifts just like they were the only people who could participate in duels. It was considered honorable for men to duel in order to settle disputes. Therefore, when a man offered to duel another, he was giving him a gift of an opportunity to show his integrity. Men of honor were capable of giving gifts because they owned things unlike slaves. Slaves could not give anything because they did not possess anything. It would be insulting for a white man to receive a gift from a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Hydrates Lab The properties of hydrates lab centralized on discovering the characteristics of hydrates, such as the percentage of water contained, determining if dehydration is reversible or not, as well as the mathematical relationship of mass lost during dehydration. Hydrates contain water molecules in their crystalline structure these molecules possess the capability of being removed by heat. By applying water to the dehydrated substance, it can then be determined if the reaction is irreversible or not. This could be applied to the real world in terms of dehydrated food. According to CK 12, by removing water from food, commonly referred to as MREs (Meals Ready to Eat), an individual is capable of carrying more items with him or her in a time of need ... The substance evolved some in the form of color, turning from blue to white, however it s overall consistency remained the same, despite the difference in mass. Conversely, some substances such as Epsom salt, do not undergo such a drastic alteration during the transformation to an anhydrous state. Due to the transformation of the hydrated copper sulfate to its original color upon adding water, it can be concluded that some hydrates do possess the capability of being rehydrated after dehydration and vice versa. Yet other substances, like sugar, do not possess this capability due to the fact its overall structure was changed upon applying heat. Applying heat to sugar involves the removal of water and an overall breakdown of the substance. The article starts out by explaining how exploring different identities is important for adolescents. Adolescents need to explore and construct their identity in order to find their place in society. One theorist believes that identity is more or less represented through self realizing activities where they feel like they are worth something. However, according to another theorist, Berzonsky, identity is actually how a person processes and examines identity relevant information (Ragelienė 98). Another definition ... Research demonstrated that peer groups are essential in this development because members of a peer group tend to behave the same way as the rest of the group. According to the author, supportive relationships correlate with positive identity development by preventing stagnation in the exploration process. Overall, the secure attachment and feeling of belonging in these peer groups relate to the positive development in adolescents identity exploration. Furthermore, the article reveals several studies that were done to further support that the better the peer relationship, the better the identity development. In these letters, as readers, we find that they are undated and that they are meant to offer advice to his younger demon nephew as he attempts to steal the soul of a human, referred to as the patient . We are first introduced to the concept of the patient rather than the human when Screwtape explains to Wormwood about one of his first experiences with one. In his first letter, Screwtape explains that the best way to lose the human is if the human somehow decides to use reason because at that point, his reason will take him to God. He does this by teaching his nephew that, Your business is to fix his attention on the stream. Teach him to call it real life and don t let him ask what he means by real (2). Ironically, the devil s resort to calling God, the Enemy . We are first introduced to this idea in the introduction on the first letter when Screwtape states that The trouble about argument is that it moves the whole struggle on to the Enemy s ground (2). These material items that society puts such a high value on create separations of wealth amongst the people, in turn creating the proletariat and the bourgeoisie. In a nutshell, The Rainbow Fish by Marcus Pfister is a story about a fish with many beautiful scales who refuses to give any of them to the less fortunate fish. In the text, it states, What good were the dazzling, shimmering scales with no one to admire them? Now he was the loneliest fish in the entire ocean (Pfister 10). Commodification is prevalent as Rainbow Fish selfishly only focuses on himself. He does not want the scales for their usefulness, he only wants them when other fish are there to admire them. Rainbow Fish only wants the scales if they give him a higher social status. If no one is there to compliment him, then the scales mean nothing to him. Additionally, Rainbow Fish exhibits commodification when he thinks about giving away his scales. Rainbow Fish states, Give away my scales? My beautiful shining scales? Never. How could I ever be happy without them (Pfister 16). Rainbow Fish allows material items to impact his life so greatly that they determine his happiness. Rainbow Fish is so commodified that even the thought of giving away his scales triggers unhappiness and worry. Rather than basing happiness off of good works and personality, he bases it off of how much material he has. He infatuates so much with himself that he fails to recognize that the scaleless proletarians are content.
