Rock ‘N’ Roll Music Has Widely Influenced Music And Society
Rock n roll music has widely influenced music and society and continues to do so today. Rock n roll
emerged in the 1950 s a time where whites and blacks were heavily segregated. Rock and roll music
not only changed the nation s current musical norms, but indicated the joy of the emerging youth
culture of the generation. It influenced artists whether black or white to come into the mainstream
music. Famous artists still remembered today also influenced rock and roll. Those pioneers helped
change the musical norms and the overall history of music. White rock n rollers helped build a ladder
for black artists to come into the scene. It was certain that rock n roll made it possible for greater
acceptance, appreciation and a wider ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When first entering in America, British folk music was distinguished by three chord tunes, sparse
instrumentation (with some fiddlers), mostly male performers, improvisation, the singers sporadic
shouts (Scottish yips ), Christian themes served up in hundreds of hymns, and a secular collection of
songs that told stories, generally about love and lost love, using metaphor and symbol to tell those
stories (Allen 101). By the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, British music changed and
became Americanized. Vocal harmonizing slowly evolved, and fiddlers were accompanied by those
who played banjo, an African American opening. Tambourines and bones (tapping out rhythms using
pork rib bones) were a minstrel show contribution (Allen 102). When African Americans were forced
into slavery and brought to North America in the 1600s, they brought their own musical traditions and
sounds. Slaves who were on the Mississippi River Valley delta soil developed what will later be
introduced as blues music. On the plantations, slaves greatly changed British American hymn singing.
They took non religious British American songs and turned it into their own forms of music that
followed their culture and taste of music. Blues emerged in the early twentieth century at the same
time country music became settled from its folk roots. Blues music talked about the indifferences
African American slaves were going through at that time. The blues voiced human

Drug Testing Welfare
Since the early War on Drugs and the welfare reform of the 1990s, those who receive public benefits
have been under the microscope of drug warriors and policy makers. Those who are proponents of
drug testing say that substance abuse and addiction can interfere with the ability to obtain or maintain
jobs. Drug testing can help welfare recipients prepare for the job market by getting them clean and
ready for the job application process (Office of the Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation
(ASPE), 2011). Drug use and abuse can also contribute to child abuse and neglect (Center for Law and
Social Policy (CLASP), 2013). Testing welfare recipients can also be cost effective, as it would

The special need of the state must be sufficiently important to both suppress the normal Fourth
Amendment requirement of individualized suspicion and offset the individual s privacy interest.
However, if the court finds no special state need, ...the search is unreasonable (p.570).
Both Michigan and Florida were determined to have no special needs fit to blanket test all welfare
applicants and thus the drug test programs in both states were halted. In Marchwinski v. Howard, the
case regarding Michigan s drug test policy, it was shown that several widely known groups were
opposed to drug testing welfare recipients, especially random testing or blanket testing as in Michigan
and Florida. These groups were the the following: the American Public Health Association, the

Racial Diversity On College Campuses
Racial Diversity on College Campuses College universities should actively strive to make their
campuses racially diverse for the benefit of their students and society. Emphasized in 10 Reasons Why
We Need Diversity on College Campuses is the expansion and growth of ethnic groups in America
and the failure of universities to represent the population on their campus; America s future workforce
will be soon comprised of people of minority groups (Kerby). The county s workforce will be inferior
to other advanced countries if colleges don t work to provide higher education for minority groups. By
strengthening individual people, the society is collectively stronger. In order for this to happen,
universities need to be focused on diversity in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Violence Of Black Americans Essay
Who are we? What defines us? In America, we are defined by our class, what we do and most
importantly how we look. Since the birth of our nation, a notion of race has been rooted to our core
personas. In fact it can enforce stereotypes of class and careers. It is evident that Black Americans are
un proportionally living in poverty and without easy access to achievement. This harsh reality is not
helped by our media driven society. In a world so heavily integrated with mass media hysteria, we
scroll past posts that can have the countering effects of degradation or empowerment through our
identities. While movements of Black Power can be painted through media, it also not hard to see the
difference between the ways in which Black Americans are manipulated within the lens of media.
They are portrayed as fitting a certain stereotype uneducated, violent and intriguingly exotic. For
example, while women in general face the enemy of sex sells , black women have this experience
intensified. These women are portrayed as exotic sexual beings. They are objectified and degraded
with the intent of women of color being seen as sexually gratifying, but nothing more. The parallels to
the mindset one hundred years ago is uncanny black women, black men and black children are seen as
objects to appropriate and use for the media s benefit. We can see this through our some of our
greatest stars. Miley Cyrus, the Kardashians and even Justin Timberlake have taken a culture and

Lao Tzu s Role In Imperial Chinese Society
Around sixth century BC , Lao Tzu, an ancient Chinese philosopher, wrote the Tao Te Ching, which is
also referred as the Lao Tzu in honor of its author. The document became the enduring transcript of
the principles of Taoism, the ancient Chinese philosophy of religion that sought to achieve balance.
Specifically, the Lao Tzu remained significant through out millenniums because of the role it played in
exploring the role of submission as means survival through out all aspects of imperial Chinese society
and as a pillar for achieving Tao. In Taoism, the ancient Chinese did not worship a sole deity but rather
focused on the religious rituals as means of achieving pure balance with nature and the supernatural
forces around them. The Chinese sought to seek out the tao, which could be directly translated as the
way but in actuality signified an abstract and indescribable essential truth as something to strive for
but never truly attained. With in the pages of the Lao Tzu, the tao appeared to embody the
characteristics of the jou as supple, plaint, and submissive because weakness was the means the way

role of submission and passivity were crucial ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The unpredictably and fragility of life characterized early imperial China s history. Death was a
frequent experience due to inability to effectively treat most infirmities and also due to the constant
bloodshed spilt over empires wrestling for power. The common man had to hold tightly onto the
Taoist principles of passivity and meekness to accept the hardships of life, because the Chinese
philosophers dictated that a man could attain his own happiness by following the happiness of others

The Imitation Of Christ Thomas A Kempis Summary
The Imitation of Christ This piece is authored by Augustinian monk, Thomas a Kempis, which
appears to be a devotional work that is directed to young monks. Kempis addresses a variety of topics
which one would assume to be important enough to be pillars of the Christian faith such as: the
imitation of Christ, the contrition of the heart, solitude and silence, human misery, judgement and
reward, and death. In regards to imitating and following Christ s example for His elect, Kempis
adamantly states that one cannot go about this half heartedly. A Christian must give everything
(whether physical or mental strength, material resources, etc.) as well as have an indwelling of the
Holy Spirit in order to even begin to imitate Christ. It is not enough to simply ... Show more content

By Church, he means the one, true, universal, and apostolic Church who is the Bride of Christ. Firstly,
Hus states that the Church is defined by its trait of unity. All true members of the Church are unified in
Christ by the same Spirit, the same faith, and the same love. However, in order to be considered a true
member of the Church, one must be predestined to the Church, meaning that one must be predestined
to eternal life after death. This distinction must be made because Hus posits that there are different
kinds of grace that determine whether or not one is predestined to eternal life or to righteousness. He
clarifies that it is possible to be predetermined to righteousness, but not to eternal life and that it is
always the case that if one is predetermined to eternal life, then he or she is also predetermined to
righteousness. Both kinds of people can consider themselves members of the Church, but Hus
concludes that only those who are predetermined to eternal life are the true members of the Church
(even if they live sinful lives without repentance until late in their

Comparison Between Hamlet And Hamlet
Hamlet Vs. Hamlet: A Comparison Between Films
Laurence Olivier (1948) and Kenneth Branagh (1996) both created films about the Shakespearean
play Hamlet, yet they are both very different. The two films were created fifty years apart and present
their film using their own perspectives and interpretations of Shakespeare s Hamlet while using the
same themes Shakespeare had. Two important themes are the use of technology and treatment of
women.
In Laurence Olivier s 1948 film, women are objectified; this reflects on the year of production. The
abuse in the character roles were more admissibly shown by gender roles. Hamlet is presented as a
very controlling person and is very controlling of Ophelia. He manipulates her into having sex with
him and shows other forms of relentless abuse towards Ophelia. Furthermore, Hamlet reveals no other
signs of affection for her other those of lust. Unlike the version filmed by Kenneth Branagh in 1996,
the date filmed is an important factor, as it demonstrated how men interacted with women. In Olivier s
film, Hamlet is stereotypically masculine monotonous and aggressive. In the beginning of the first
scene, Hamlet appears to be emotionless, until he abruptly points to Claudius and aggressively yells
All but one! The scene ends with Hamlet exerting his power over Ophelia by throwing Ophelia to the
ground and leaving her on the steps to lure Polonius and Claudius out from behind the curtain. Hamlet
realizes what he has done to Ophelia, but leaves the room without helping her up or apologizes for
what he has done, even though his plan had failed. It is clear that Hamlet s plan to use Ophelia as bait
had failed because they could not have seen him or Ophelia from their side of the curtain. Polonius
confirms this when he says, No need to tell us, we have heard it all . In contrast, Kenneth s Hamlet
stops once he sees what he had done to Ophelia and goes back to her. Kenneth s Hamlet is more
emotional. He sheds tears, expresses pain in his voice, deeply sighs, and overall is less physical with
Ophelia. These differences between Kenneth and Olivier s versions of the character Hamlet reflect the
era of which they were created. In Olivier s time, abuse of women was permitted; a man

Hbcus In Today s Society
I believe that HBCUs are still significant in today s society. Historically Black Colleges and
Universities gives us an example of how Black Americans can be successful, even as a minority to
white supremacy. They provide an important space for equality and rights that we have as blacks in
the United States. HBCUs have an important history behind and they shows us that blacks are
obligated of having an education and a successful future just as well as others. For most of the past
two centuries, African Americans were forced to attend segregated colleges, and HBCUs played an
important role during that period. Which was our foundation into our higher education. As a black
woman, I can feel more comfortable and significant, going to a HBCU than a predominantly white
college. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
HBCUs are usually less expensive, which is a very important factor. It gives us an option and an
opportunity to receive an education for less of the costs. With that in mind, HBCUs also represent
twenty percent of African Americans who have an undergraduate degree. This is more than enough
evidence to prove a HBCUs significance to black success. HBCUs provide leadership, an excellent
education, and a great foundation into our future. Some of the best colleges in the United States are
HBCUs such as Howard University or Spelman University. We have many examples for the
significance a HBCU can achieve. There are successful blacks such as Samuel L. Jackson who
attended Morehouse College, or Oprah Winfrey who attended Tennessee State University.
Going to a Historically Black College is important for me to attend because I want to carry on a
legacy. A HBCU is already inexpensive itself. If I go to a HBCU, my future children could have more

Feasibility And Merit Criteria For Our Recycling Program
The facility would contain an office area for the Sustainability Supervisor, a paid employee of Mercer
University who would be responsible for the recycling and sustainability efforts at Mercer University.
They would oversee interns responsible for maintaining and updating the website as well as student
workers who would sort recyclable materials. It would be outfitted with three computers, office
furniture, and a solar compactor. Collected recyclables would be taken to that facility to be sorted,
compacted and housed. With the creation of a sustainability office, we would be able to increase the
amount of recyclable waste that could be stored on campus and simply take the material to Atlanta,
directly, after it was capable of filling the truck. This would decrease the amount of trips taken
downtown to the Macon recycling center and increase Mercer s independence in the sustainability
movement.
Feasibility and Merit Criteria
The feasibility criteria considered in deciding the requirements of our recycling program, were the
same conditions given to us in the RFP. At the very minimum each proposed program had to include
recycling in Academic/Office buildings, Residential areas, the University Center, the Connell Student
Center, and the Sporting arenas. When it came to deciding what merit criteria would be used in
establishing parameters, we focused on the major problems detailed to us during the Bidder s
Conference. We were informed that the major factors in the failure of

One of the best gifts my husband ever bought me was a KitchenAid Pro Series 600 stand mixer. He
knew I wanted one but wouldn t spend the nearly $600 on myself. He researched all the brands and
models and settled on one. KitchenAid mixers are excellent to have because of their superior
durability, multiple available attachments, time saving ability, and aesthetic appeal. After two years of
heavy use I can definitely say it was an exceptional purchase. When selecting a mixer my husband did
most of his research online; he read reviews and consumer reports as well as getting background
information on the different companies. KitchenAid has been in business since 1919 and their only
product was the stand mixer. For people like my husband and I, we appreciate that they are still made

The Day After Analysis
The Day After The American television film The Day After is a 1980s science fiction film dramatizing
the catastrophic events resulting from a nuclear fallout between the United States and the Soviet
Union. The movie documents the accustomed lives of two diverging families in three distinct,
chronological stages. The first phase begins in a pre war period during which Dr. Russell Oakes and
his wife, Helen, a noble Kansas City family, receive word from their daughter that she will be moving
to Boston. Meanwhile, in the bordering state of Missouri, the Dahlberg s, a rural family of five, are
preparing for the upcoming marriage of their eldest child, Denise. Amid these monumental changes,
the families are further burdened by an emergency broadcast, warning a sudden declaration of war.
When the first missile hits, Dr. Oakes is stranded on a crowded highway some thirty miles away, en
route to the University of Kansas Hospital. He arrives by foot to treat a myriad of wounded patients,
suffering from exposure to the high levels of radiation released upon the missiles impact. As the crisis
escalates, and another missile is launched from a nearby field in Missouri, the Dahlberg s move hastily
to take shelter in their basement, however, not without consequence; their youngest son, Danny,
catches sight as a missile detonated and is blinded. Soon thereafter, KU student Stephen Klein
wandered upon the farm and is warily taken in by the Dahlberg s. But, when Denise goes frantic after

Separation Of A Hunger Artist
The Separation of Artist from Society in A Hunger Artist
Frank Kafka s A Hunger Artist is a dark and ironic short story about a man who spends his days
fasting to use his dissatisfaction as a form of art. A prominent theme expressed throughout A Hunger
Artist is the separation of artists from the rest of society. By being so devoted to his art, the hunger
artist gave up comfort, relationships, and food, all of which are crucial to survival. This theme can be
seen through the symbols of the narrator s physical separation from his audience, the narrator s
constant reminders of his alienation from the rest of the world, and the differing viewpoints of fasting
as an art versus fasting as a form of entertainment.
The physical separation of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The primary example of this is at the end of the short story, on page 579 where the hunger artist says, I
have to fast, I can t help it...I couldn t find the food I liked. If I had found it, believe me, I should have
made no fuss and stuffed myself like you or anyone else. The fact that the hunger artist could never
find any food that he liked shows that he is alienated from the rest of the world by nature if the world
had been a better fit for him (i.e. he liked food), he would not have chosen to spend his life fasting in a
cage. The hunger artist is proud of his fasting abilities, but that does not keep him from being
dissatisfied with himself and wishing that he could connect with the rest of the society. He was quite
happy at the prospect of spending a sleepless night with such watchers; he was ready to exchange
jokes with them, to tell them stories out of his nomadic life, anything at all to keep them awake and
demonstrate to them again that he had no eatables in his cage and that he was fasting as not one of
them could fast (pg.575). The hunger artist is constantly seeking approval from his spectators, but this
quote suggests that, like any normal person, he wishes to have social interactions with people and
form relationships. However, his alienation from society prohibits such

My Monitoring Experience During These Classes
Today was a very fun day for me, but there was not a lot of teacher observation to do. This is because,
today Mrs. DeLorenzo was assessing each student individually and asked me to teach, while she was
outside of the classroom assessing one student at a time. During CAMPEL, I also had to step up and
help out the technology teacher as there was a technical problem with all the computers and she was
trying to fix them up, so class could run. Therefore, for the purpose of this journal, I will list my
monitoring experience during these classes. Mrs. DeLorenzo gave me her Community Booklet and
told me that each child had one. She asked me to do two or three pages with them while she was
outside of the classroom. First, I called the attention of the students and asked them to take out their
booklets. Each page had 2 activities, so I gave them instructions in what to do in the first activity.
They started working on it and I walked around the classroom observing their work and helping when
needed. However, all of the sudden I had students walking around the classroom, students trying to
talk to me about their field trip, students telling other students what to do, some students were talking
loudly about things that were not related to the work, and others were playing around with their
material.
I first told them that they had to stay seated. Then that they had to concentrate on their work and that if
they did so, I would give them time to talk to me about other stuff in the

Alienation In Gods And Monsters By Lana Del Rey
For many aspiring people, life tends to be a struggle for happiness. Whether old or young, rich or
poor, timid or bold, people often find themselves pressured by society to change, or else they will be
rejected. Under this overwhelming pressure that one may face at some point in his or her life, the
victim will forcibly conform to the confined margins of popular society the one that states that
everyone must be the same in both mentality and body image. In the song Gods Monsters, Lana Del
Rey emphasizes the importance of self identity through her narrative of alienation in Hollywood.
Using an eerie tune with supernatural metaphors relating her life to the evils of Hollywood, Del Rey
ultimately conveys that every life is unique and beautiful. Gods Monsters was written by Lana Del
Rey and released on her album Paradise in late 2012, just as she made her major debut into the music
industry. The alternative pop hit bears an unusually dark atmosphere and soft spooky vocals from
Lana Del Rey. The song emphasizes an early struggle of isolation that Lana faced as she was gaining
weight in the music industry. In 2014, Gods Monsters was featured in a musical scene on an episode

She is no longer blinded by the naivety that she had when she came to Hollywood. Lana repeatedly
echoes this perception throughout the song several times, singing, It s innocence lost, innocence lost

Bullying Is A Common Problem
Bullying is a common problem. Bullying is very negative and creates bigger problems for society.
Since many people don`t take bullying serious, they are often left shocked and confused when an
incident occurs as a result of bullying. This essay is about dealing with bullying and one teens
desparate struggle to deal with the issue; which ultimately led to her suicide at the age of 15.
There are many forms of bullying. Two types of bullying that Amanda experienced was emotional
bullying, which includes spreading rumors, manipulating social relationships, or engaging in social
exclusion, extortion, or intimidation and physical bullying which involves hitting, kicking, spitting,
pushing, and taking personal belongings. The second form of bullying is sexual bullying, which
involves sexual harassment and sexual abuse. (Regoli, Hewitt, Delisi,2014).
There are many emotions experienced, when someone is bullied. Despite the fact, it might not show
intially, a lot could be going on internally. As a result of being bullied Amanda experienced anxiety,
major depression, and panic disorder. She handled with it by revolving to drugs, alcohol, and sex. In
return, she suffered more pain and cause damaged to herself, as she struggled to be accepted by her

The Miners Strike 1984 Essay
Throughout the century British coal had become increasingly costly and difficult to mine.
Nationalization in 1948 had not altered this. Indeed, there was a case for saying that lack of
government investment since that date had added to the problem. For some time Britain had been
importing coal from abroad. With the exception of few pits producing particular types of coal, British
mines by the 1970s were running at loss. When Margaret Thatcher became Prime Minister the first
thing she wanted to do was limit union power. She felt that union power applied to nationalized
industrial monopolies resulted in poor service at exorbitant cost to the taxpayers. She pointed to
inefficient work practices, over employment and restrictive employment ... Show more content on

Thatcher reduced trade union power. She was helped also by rapidly rising unemployment which
acted as a major disincentive to many going on strike or pressing to hard for higher wages. The trigger
for Britain s most bitter industrial dispute of recent times was the announcement that one Yorkshire
pit, Cortonwood near Barnsley, was to close, all over Yorkshire walked out, not realising that it would
be a year before they returned. Whereas previous coal strikes had been over in a matter of weeks, this
time both union and government dug in for a lengthy battle. In the end, the biggest losers were
ordinary miners. However there was a strong counter argument advanced by the miners union and the
other analysts. They suggested that with a proper investment programme backed by a genuine
government commitment to coal as a long term power source, large parts of the British coal industry
still had a profitable future. The social consequences of widespread pit closures would be catastrophic.
The impact of the strike was much wider than just in the mining industry and the regions: the scenes
of violence between strikes and police regularly seen on television shocked the nation and divided
public opinion. Polls suggested that 65% of the people supported the government and the police 35%
of the miners. social commentators suggested that the violent clashes that frequently accompanied the
strike stimulated a general strike

Marine Pollution
I make my way down the sand with the scorching sun shining bright in my face, trying to reach to the
cooling ocean as fast as I can. I feel the ocean s continuous movement of the currents shifting back
and forth, making me think about how the ocean currents create the rubbish patches, gathering bits of
plastic on the way. I wonder if people think about the consequences of littering before doing it and the
harm that it has on the sea life?
Over the last few decades human activities have become a danger to marine life, through marine
pollution. According to WWF.panda.org over 80% of marine pollution comes from land based
activities, such as oil, fertilisers, general rubbish, sewage disposal, and toxic chemicals. As someone
who cares about ocean and its sea life these statistics always saddens me to think that humans are the
main cause of their harm. Just this weekend there has been an article in the newspaper about a whale s
stomach that was full of around 30 plastic bags. The whale was then put down in Norway after they
failed to rescue it. What we need to realise as people is that even though the ocean may seem big
enough to hold a lot of pollution it s actually having an enormous effect on the marine life and could
also start having more of an effect on us through diseases, transferred when eating contaminated fish
that may have consumed the toxic substances. The newspaper article on the whale sadly didn t even

Macbeth Illusion Vs Reality Essay
The line between an illusion and reality is a very slight. The only way to differentiate between the two
is through one s thoughts and perception. One s own self perception can vary depending on one s
circumstances and the way one is raised. This slight gap between illusion and reality is also affected
by one s back story and how an individual is taught to think. In life, as in literature, one s own self
perception can affect the way one differentiates between what is an illusion and what is reality. In the
play Macbeth, the author, William Shakespeare reveals how one s own self perception can affect the
way an individual differentiates between illusions and reality. Many characters shift the way they see
reality and question the illusions of other characters nature because of the way they see themself and
their past experiences. Macbeth, the story s tragic hero, is a young man who loses his ability to

as a dagger floating in front of him, calling him to kill the King. At this point in the play Macbeth is
unsure whether the dagger is an illusion or reality. In the play, Macbeth, Shakespeare shows Macbeth s
struggle to grasp reality through Macbeth questioning the reality of the dagger. Art thou not, fatal
vision, sensible To feeling as to sight? Or art thou but A dagger of the mind (2.1.45). Shakespeare is
showing the reader that Macbeth still has insight as to whether something is an illusion or reality. But
Macbeth does not keep this ability to differentiate through the whole play. After the murder of
Duncan, Macbeth starts to lose his sense of reality as his self perception and ego starts to

Hop-Frog And Zadig Irony
Introduction Poe develops narrative point of view through Allusion Foreshadowing Irony Sarcasm
Symbolism Word Choice Body Allusion He would have preferred Rabelais s Gargantua, to the Zadig
of Voltaire: and, upon the whole, practical jokes suited his taste far better than verbal ones. Poe alludes
to two books, Rabelais s Gargantua and Voltaire s Zadig. The king prefers to read humorous books
such as Rabelais s Gargantua , instead of serious and philosophical books such as Voltaire s Zadig.
This shows how the king was stupid and loved jokes This allusion helps readers understand Hop Frog

Foils In Jane Eyre
Written by Charlotte Brontë, Jane Eyre tells the story of its title character as she matures and
experiences all that life has to offer in 19th century England. Jane Eyre grows up as an orphan and
seeks work as a governess at Thornfield Hall, where she meets and falls in love with Mr. Edward
Rochester. After discovering that he is already married, she is introduced to St. John Rivers; he asks
her to marry him for the sole purpose of being a missionary s wife and she instead returns to Mr.
Rochester, who she truly loves, and marries him. Throughout her journey, she learns many thing about

Rochester and St. John Rivers display very similar characteristics throughout the novel, such as their
social standings, severe dispositions, and proposals to Jane. Both men come from wealthy and

as Thornfield Hall and Ferndean Manor. Likewise, St. John comes from an esteemed and well known
family that Mr. Oliver, the wealthiest man in Morton, speaks well of when questioned about the topic
by Jane. Secondly, both Mr. Rochester and St. John come off as harsh and distant until Jane gets to
know them well. Mr. Rochester is brusque and asks Jane many questions about herself, but discloses
very little information about his background. During her time with St. John, she attempts to make him
disclose to her his feelings towards Rosamond Oliver and says, With all his firmness and self control,
thought I, he tasks himself too far: locks every feeling and pang within expresses, confesses, imparts

marries Mr. Rochester, but leaves him after realizing that he is already married. She refuses to marry
St. John because she doesn t love him and returns to Mr. Rochester, who she eventually does marry

Understanding and Treating Depression
Americans are obsessed with happiness, yet increasingly depressed. A dominant theme in our society
is that you should be happy, and if you are not, there is something wrong with you. Life can be
difficult at times and people do not seem to realize that everyone has different circumstances. There
are about 15 million Americans that battle the disease of depression. Our society is in the throes of a
virtual epidemic of depression (Psychology today). Depression is the most common illness seen in all

When one is depressed it brings them down and they only seem to see the negative in everything.
They block out all the good. People become sad and start to feel helpless about many situations. When
a person stops doing what they do in normal basis, such as work or school, the depression seems to
increase. Even though the free time is for them to enjoy they will seldom feel enthusiasm, even for
things they use to look forward to (Center). The causes of depression vary from physical/biological,
some are psychological and some grow out of the situation. Most of the times it happens to be a
combination of all. A serious loss, chronic illness, difficult relationship, bereavement, financial
problem or any unwelcome change in lifestyle or patterns can also trigger a depressive episode. Some
people are physically and biologically more at risk for depression because of biological vulnerability
to depression can be inherited. Other factors are the possibility or stressful environment and other
psychosocial factors (Center).
Along depression there are symptoms; symptoms are the side effects of the illness. Symptoms are in
action when depressed and they are able to last for days, months even years when depression goes
untreated (Center). There are many symptoms that people can experience and some may not
experience them at all. Depression can cause physical symptoms such

Courageous Conversations About Race: Chapter 5
Authors Glenn E. Singleton and Curtis Linton in Chapter Five of Courageous Conversations About
Race broach the topic of race, by asking the reader to evaluate his or her own consciousness of race.
According to the authors, in order to address the achievement gaps between African American
students and White students, educators should shift their energy towards focusing on the factors that
they have direct control of inside the classroom rather than on the factors that influence this
achievement disparity between races outside the classroom.
The first step towards addressing the racial achievement gap begins with educators addressing his or

Growing up in Park Ridge, Illinois was significantly different from where I was born in Morristown,
New Jersey. One of the most startling differences was apparent in the make up of the student body. In
Morristown, I attended an elementary school with a diverse student body; many of my schoolmates
were African American and I remember even at a young age, students regardless of race interacting all
together without any sense of stigma attached to it. In that sense, while attending elementary school,
since it was the norm to have friends of different races, I did not think very much of my race.
However, in contrast to living in Morristown, when I moved to Park Ridge, Illinois at the start of
middle school, I will never forget meeting my classmates for the first time only to realize not one was
of a different race. In fact, there was not one African American in my entire middle school! This was
shocking to me. Transferring from a diverse school community to a completely homogenous school
community made me more aware of my race simply because there

Manifest Destiny is a term coined in the 1840s. It meant that the United States could, and was destined
to, have all the land from coast to coast. The term Manifest Destiny was first used in an article by John
O Sullivan in 1845. O Sullivan stated in his article our manifest destiny to overspread the continent
allotted by Providence for the free development of our yearly multiplying millions. This sentiment
helped to fuel additional western settlement in the Oregon territory, increased desire to annex Texas,
and war with Mexico. United States President Polk was a supporter of Manifest Destiny.

Stages Of Standard Diffusion Model
Five Stages of Standard Diffusion Model The diffusion process is the communication theory for
adopting or rejecting ideas, products, or innovation. Sociologists of the 1950s developed a standard
diffusion model that had five different stages. The stages are awareness, interest, evaluation, trial, and
adoption. In the awareness stage, an individual is introduced to a new idea, procedure, or product with
known knowledge about it. Following the awareness stage is the interest stage which is also referred
to as the information stage. In this stage, an individual starts becoming familiar and interested in the
new idea, procedure, or product while actively searching for more information regarding it. Thirdly is
the evaluation stage where the individual determines the value of the idea, procedure, or product in an
attempt of determining whether it is good. The trial stage is next where the person tries out the idea,
procedure, or product. Lastly is the adoption stage in which the individual determines that the idea,
procedure, or product is overall positive (Moore, Bagin, Gallagher, p. 74, 2016). These five stages
were highly critique by Lionberger and Rogers, because they believed this five stage process did not
follow a linear sequence. Everett Rogers later renamed the five stages because of the great impacts the
social system plays throughout the process. The five stages of Rogers diffusion process are
knowledge, persuasion, decision, implementation, and confirmation. In

For those desiring the same famous Olive Garden taste at home take away meals are also available.
Although Milestone s has a very similar target market to Olive Garden it is a substantially different
restaurant. One of the biggest differences is that Milestone s has no ethnic theme to its décor or its
menu. When asked, a Milestone s server described the theme to be Classic urban fare with globally
inspired twists in an elegant but casual setting. This theme is carried out through the use of dark
woods and brass throughout the interior as well as several Asian inspired menu items. The Langley
location of Milestone s has approximately 200 seats including a 50 seat patio and 20 lounge seats
situated around the bar. Despite the smaller size Milestone s maintains an average wait of 20 minutes
with maximum waits approaching 45 minutes. This is one significant advantage over Olive Garden.
Another distinct difference between the two restaurants is that Milestone s only utilizes booth seating,
as opposed to the approximately half and half mix of tables and booths at the Olive Garden. The
increased number of booths allows for a much more private atmosphere, as it more effectively
separates the individual parties from one another. The menu offered at Milestone s has an excellent
selection of entrees as well offering breakfast items which Olive Garden does not. However the wine
list at Milestone s is not nearly as extensive in either variety of wines

Analysis Of George W. Bush
On the evening of September 11, 2001, George W. Bush managed to change the country forever with a
simple three letter word. President Bush gained numerous advantages following his renown speech.
Many Americans lost their lives on 911 due to terrorism being used as a form of communication.
Language is the cornerstone of all known societies and is essential for a country to thrive. Without
language there is no understanding. Without understanding conflicts are inevitable. The Bush
administration obtained a substantial amount of advantages solely from calling the 911 attacks a war .
American citizens believed that they were obligated to trust every decision the government made.
Primarily because American citizens believed that it was unpatriotic to disagree with government
actions concerning the war against a perpetrating country.(Denton 2) Bush and his administration
created a larger margin of error for themselves considering the American citizens most likely would
not question any government decisions pertaining to the war . President Bush put himself on a high
pedestal for a reason. By calling 911 a war Bush established the idea of an unquestionable retaliation.
This instilled in Americans that their president would make confident, decisive decisions following a
tragedy. Repressing doubts or concerns from opposing parties as well as persistent naysayers of
President Bush. One of the biggest advantages gained from addressing 911 as a war was sending a

Essay about Goodyear Case
Goodyear Case
In 1992, the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company decided to reconsider the offer from Sears to sell
Goodyear s Eagle brand tires. The reasons that Goodyear was contemplating this offer was that Sears
was replacing worn out Goodyear tires at a large amount every year. The tires were not being replaced
with Goodyear tires because the customers at Sears wanted to replace their tires with the best possible
tires that Sears offered, and the Goodyear tires were not in the offering. The company s major options
in this decision were whether to sell only the Eagle brand tires or all of the Goodyear tire brands.

Goodyear?s principal business is the development, manufacture, distribution and sale of tires
throughout the world. The distribution of tires represented 83% of the company?s corporate sales of
$10.9 billion in 1991. Around 60% of Goodyear worldwide sales were in the tire replacement market
and 40% were to the original equipment market. Because of the Goodyear name, which is one of the
best known brand names in the world, the Goodyear tires have been positioned and priced as premium
quality brands. It is one of the leading national advertisers in the U.S. The company also operates
around 1,000 company owned Goodyear Auto Service Centers and sells through 2,500 franchised
Goodyear Tires Dealers in the U.S. These outlets account for a good portion of the company?s annual
tire sales.
Recommendations
Because of an industry analysis that expects Sears to benefit from carrying Goodyear tires, I think it
would be a good idea for Goodyear to sell their tires at Sears? stores. The fact that Goodyear is losing
many customers to Sears by Sears not offering replacement tires to their customers is becoming a
large loss of business for Goodyear. The customers at Sears are returning customers, and feel that the
integrity of the company is well represented by the products they offer. For Goodyear to sell their
products at the Sears stores, it would show that the Goodyear name stands for quality and that the

Space Probes Research Paper
The Investigation of the Large Outer Planets by the Space Probes, Voyager 1 and 2 and Casini
The space probes voyager 1 and 2 were set off in 1977 on August the 20th and september the 5th from
the NASA Kennedy Space Center at Cape Canaveral, Florida. This was because the suitable
conditions for their mission wold not reoccur for approximately another 175 years. These conditions
were that the planets were aligned in a certain way that would allow the probes to use specific planets
to propel the probes further out into space.
Due to the distance these probes traveled from the sun, solar energy was unable to be used as a power
source. Instead the probes relied on the gravitational forces of the planets to propel them. This was
able to happen because of a rare geometric arrangement of the planets in the late 1970s. The flybys
that the spacecraft did of the outer planets would utilise the gravitational forces of the planets to
sufficiently bend the course and increase the velocity of the probes so that they could reach their next
destination. The probes were at first only designed to flyby Jupiter and Saturn, even though a four
planet mission was known to be possible. This was at first rejected because it was believed it would be
too expensive. More than 10,000 trajectories had to be studied before two were chosen that would
allow close flybys of Jupiter and its moon Io, and Saturn and its moon Titan. ... Show more content on

Assessment Of Chronic Pain
Assessment
Assessment of chronic pain first begins with understanding what chronic pain is. Chronic pain is any
pain with or without obvious injury that lasts longer than the expected healing period. Like many
chronic diseases, it has periods of remission, an absence of symptoms, and exacerbation, an increase
in the severity of the symptoms. A recent study suggested that chronic pain affects about 80% of
elders in nursing homes. (Pateinakis, 2013) Proper treatment of chronic pain begins with gathering
subjective and objective data about the client s pain. Before meeting with the client determine rather
or not the client is capable of communicating about his or her pain. If the client is aphasic or severely
demented, it may be necessary to ask family members and/or caregivers to be present during the
interview to help answer questions. Even if the patient is able to communicate effectively, they may be
more comfortable with loved ones nearby. Review any comorbidities that may be affecting the pain or
even causing the pain. Also, note all medications the client is currently taking including herbal
supplements and over the counter drugs, to prevent polypharmacy or even identify polypharmacy that
is occurring already.
Next, begin a focused interview. COLDSPA can be used effectively to gather all the specific
information about the pain itself. Character is the description of the sign or symptom. Onset is when it
began. Location is where is it and if it is localized pain or

A Brief Look at Poliomyelitis
INTRODUCTION Poliomyelitis is often called polio, this polio is an acute infectious disease caused
by a virus which can spread from person to person via the fecal oral route. The term poliomyelitis
means inflammation of the spinal cord of the grey matter. In severe poliomyelitis infection it can
expand to the brainstem. Polio is so contagious that anyone living with a person that is recently
affected can spread the virus for weeks in their feces. It invades the nervous system and spread within
hours. Poliomyelitis causes infection with a member of the genus called the enterovirus which is
known as the poliovirus. It belongs to a group of Ribonucleic acid (RNA) viruses which affects the
gastrointestinal tract especially the intestine and the oropharynx. Its structure is very simple,
composed of a single positive sense RNA genome which is enclosed in a protein shell called the
capsid. The capsid apart from protecting the virus genetic material, it capsid protein also make the
polio virus to infect some certain types of cells. There are three serotypes of poliovirus that have been
identified; it includes the poliovirus type 1, poliovirus type of 2 and poliovirus 3. They all look similar
but have a small different structure in its capsid protein. The poliovirus type 1 is the one that causes
most of the disease and is mostly associated with paralysis. Poliomyelitis can come in two ways of

Rock n roll emerged in the 1950 s a time where whites and blacks were heavily segregated. Rock and roll music not only changed the nation s current musical norms, but indicated the joy of the emerging youth culture of the generation. It influenced artists whether black or white to come into the mainstream music. Famous artists still remembered today also influenced rock and roll. Those pioneers helped change the musical norms and the overall history of music. White rock n rollers helped build a ladder for black artists to come into the scene. It was certain that rock n roll made it possible for greater acceptance, appreciation and a wider ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When first entering in America, British folk music was distinguished by three chord tunes, sparse instrumentation (with some fiddlers), mostly male performers, improvisation, the singers sporadic shouts (Scottish yips ), Christian themes served up in hundreds of hymns, and a secular collection of songs that told stories, generally about love and lost love, using metaphor and symbol to tell those stories (Allen 101). By the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, British music changed and became Americanized. Vocal harmonizing slowly evolved, and fiddlers were accompanied by those who played banjo, an African American opening. Tambourines and bones (tapping out rhythms using pork rib bones) were a minstrel show contribution (Allen 102). When African Americans were forced into slavery and brought to North America in the 1600s, they brought their own musical traditions and sounds. Slaves who were on the Mississippi River Valley delta soil developed what will later be introduced as blues music. On the plantations, slaves greatly changed British American hymn singing. They took non religious British American songs and turned it into their own forms of music that followed their culture and taste of music. Blues emerged in the early twentieth century at the same time country music became settled from its folk roots. Blues music talked about the indifferences African American slaves were going through at that time. The blues voiced human ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Drug Testing Welfare Since the early War on Drugs and the welfare reform of the 1990s, those who receive public benefits have been under the microscope of drug warriors and policy makers. Those who are proponents of drug testing say that substance abuse and addiction can interfere with the ability to obtain or maintain jobs. Drug testing can help welfare recipients prepare for the job market by getting them clean and ready for the job application process (Office of the Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation (ASPE), 2011). Drug use and abuse can also contribute to child abuse and neglect (Center for Law and Social Policy (CLASP), 2013). Both Michigan and Florida were determined to have no special needs fit to blanket test all welfare applicants and thus the drug test programs in both states were halted. In Marchwinski v. • 5. The Violence Of Black Americans Essay Who are we? What defines us? In America, we are defined by our class, what we do and most importantly how we look. Since the birth of our nation, a notion of race has been rooted to our core personas. In fact it can enforce stereotypes of class and careers. It is evident that Black Americans are un proportionally living in poverty and without easy access to achievement. This harsh reality is not helped by our media driven society. In a world so heavily integrated with mass media hysteria, we scroll past posts that can have the countering effects of degradation or empowerment through our identities. While movements of Black Power can be painted through media, it also not hard to see the difference between the ways in which Black Americans are manipulated within the lens of media. They are portrayed as fitting a certain stereotype uneducated, violent and intriguingly exotic. For example, while women in general face the enemy of sex sells , black women have this experience intensified. These women are portrayed as exotic sexual beings. They are objectified and degraded with the intent of women of color being seen as sexually gratifying, but nothing more. The parallels to the mindset one hundred years ago is uncanny black women, black men and black children are seen as objects to appropriate and use for the media s benefit. We can see this through our some of our greatest stars. Miley Cyrus, the Kardashians and even Justin Timberlake have taken a culture and twisted ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. The Imitation Of Christ Thomas A Kempis Summary The Imitation of Christ This piece is authored by Augustinian monk, Thomas a Kempis, which appears to be a devotional work that is directed to young monks. Kempis addresses a variety of topics which one would assume to be important enough to be pillars of the Christian faith such as: the imitation of Christ, the contrition of the heart, solitude and silence, human misery, judgement and reward, and death. In regards to imitating and following Christ s example for His elect, Kempis adamantly states that one cannot go about this half heartedly. A Christian must give everything (whether physical or mental strength, material resources, etc.) as well as have an indwelling of the Holy Spirit in order to even begin to imitate Christ. Firstly, Hus states that the Church is defined by its trait of unity. All true members of the Church are unified in Christ by the same Spirit, the same faith, and the same love. However, in order to be considered a true member of the Church, one must be predestined to the Church, meaning that one must be predestined to eternal life after death. This distinction must be made because Hus posits that there are different kinds of grace that determine whether or not one is predestined to eternal life or to righteousness. He clarifies that it is possible to be predetermined to righteousness, but not to eternal life and that it is always the case that if one is predetermined to eternal life, then he or she is also predetermined to righteousness. Both kinds of people can consider themselves members of the Church, but Hus concludes that only those who are predetermined to eternal life are the true members of the Church (even if they live sinful lives without repentance until late in their ... • 9. Comparison Between Hamlet And Hamlet Hamlet Vs. Hamlet: A Comparison Between Films Laurence Olivier (1948) and Kenneth Branagh (1996) both created films about the Shakespearean play Hamlet, yet they are both very different. The two films were created fifty years apart and present their film using their own perspectives and interpretations of Shakespeare s Hamlet while using the same themes Shakespeare had. Two important themes are the use of technology and treatment of women. In Laurence Olivier s 1948 film, women are objectified; this reflects on the year of production. The abuse in the character roles were more admissibly shown by gender roles. Hamlet is presented as a very controlling person and is very controlling of Ophelia. He manipulates her into having sex with him and shows other forms of relentless abuse towards Ophelia. Furthermore, Hamlet reveals no other signs of affection for her other those of lust. Unlike the version filmed by Kenneth Branagh in 1996, the date filmed is an important factor, as it demonstrated how men interacted with women. In Olivier s film, Hamlet is stereotypically masculine monotonous and aggressive. In the beginning of the first scene, Hamlet appears to be emotionless, until he abruptly points to Claudius and aggressively yells All but one! The scene ends with Hamlet exerting his power over Ophelia by throwing Ophelia to the ground and leaving her on the steps to lure Polonius and Claudius out from behind the curtain. Hamlet realizes what he has done to Ophelia, but leaves the room without helping her up or apologizes for what he has done, even though his plan had failed. It is clear that Hamlet s plan to use Ophelia as bait had failed because they could not have seen him or Ophelia from their side of the curtain. Polonius confirms this when he says, No need to tell us, we have heard it all . In contrast, Kenneth s Hamlet stops once he sees what he had done to Ophelia and goes back to her. Kenneth s Hamlet is more emotional. He sheds tears, expresses pain in his voice, deeply sighs, and overall is less physical with Ophelia. These differences between Kenneth and Olivier s versions of the character Hamlet reflect the era of which they were created. In Olivier s time, abuse of women was permitted; a man ... Feasibility And Merit Criteria For Our Recycling Program The facility would contain an office area for the Sustainability Supervisor, a paid employee of Mercer University who would be responsible for the recycling and sustainability efforts at Mercer University. They would oversee interns responsible for maintaining and updating the website as well as student workers who would sort recyclable materials. It would be outfitted with three computers, office furniture, and a solar compactor. Collected recyclables would be taken to that facility to be sorted, compacted and housed. With the creation of a sustainability office, we would be able to increase the amount of recyclable waste that could be stored on campus and simply take the material to Atlanta, directly, after it was capable of filling the truck. This would decrease the amount of trips taken downtown to the Macon recycling center and increase Mercer s independence in the sustainability movement. • 14. Separation Of A Hunger Artist The Separation of Artist from Society in A Hunger Artist Frank Kafka s A Hunger Artist is a dark and ironic short story about a man who spends his days fasting to use his dissatisfaction as a form of art. A prominent theme expressed throughout A Hunger Artist is the separation of artists from the rest of society. By being so devoted to his art, the hunger artist gave up comfort, relationships, and food, all of which are crucial to survival. This theme can be seen through the symbols of the narrator s physical separation from his audience, the narrator s constant reminders of his alienation from the rest of the world, and the differing viewpoints of fasting as an art versus fasting as a form of entertainment. If I had found it, believe me, I should have made no fuss and stuffed myself like you or anyone else. The fact that the hunger artist could never find any food that he liked shows that he is alienated from the rest of the world by nature if the world had been a better fit for him (i.e. he liked food), he would not have chosen to spend his life fasting in a cage. The hunger artist is proud of his fasting abilities, but that does not keep him from being dissatisfied with himself and wishing that he could connect with the rest of the society. He was quite happy at the prospect of spending a sleepless night with such watchers; he was ready to exchange jokes with them, to tell them stories out of his nomadic life, anything at all to keep them awake and demonstrate to them again that he had no eatables in his cage and that he was fasting as not one of them could fast (pg.575). Under this overwhelming pressure that one may face at some point in his or her life, the victim will forcibly conform to the confined margins of popular society the one that states that everyone must be the same in both mentality and body image. In the song Gods Monsters, Lana Del Rey emphasizes the importance of self identity through her narrative of alienation in Hollywood. With the exception of few pits producing particular types of coal, British mines by the 1970s were running at loss. Whereas previous coal strikes had been over in a matter of weeks, this time both union and government dug in for a lengthy battle. In the end, the biggest losers were ordinary miners. However there was a strong counter argument advanced by the miners union and the other analysts. They suggested that with a proper investment programme backed by a genuine government commitment to coal as a long term power source, large parts of the British coal industry still had a profitable future. The social consequences of widespread pit closures would be catastrophic. The impact of the strike was much wider than just in the mining industry and the regions: the scenes of violence between strikes and police regularly seen on television shocked the nation and divided public opinion. • 31. Stages Of Standard Diffusion Model Five Stages of Standard Diffusion Model The diffusion process is the communication theory for adopting or rejecting ideas, products, or innovation. Sociologists of the 1950s developed a standard diffusion model that had five different stages. The stages are awareness, interest, evaluation, trial, and adoption. In the awareness stage, an individual is introduced to a new idea, procedure, or product with known knowledge about it. Following the awareness stage is the interest stage which is also referred to as the information stage. In this stage, an individual starts becoming familiar and interested in the new idea, procedure, or product while actively searching for more information regarding it. Thirdly is the evaluation stage where the individual determines the value of the idea, procedure, or product in an attempt of determining whether it is good. The trial stage is next where the person tries out the idea, procedure, or product. Lastly is the adoption stage in which the individual determines that the idea, procedure, or product is overall positive (Moore, Bagin, Gallagher, p. 74, 2016). These five stages were highly critique by Lionberger and Rogers, because they believed this five stage process did not follow a linear sequence. Everett Rogers later renamed the five stages because of the great impacts the social system plays throughout the process. The five stages of Rogers diffusion process are knowledge, persuasion, decision, implementation, and confirmation. In ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Olive Garden vs Milestones Olive Garden vs. Milestones In this paper I will compare my favorite restaurant, Olive Garden, to its most direct competition which in this case is Milestones Bar and Grill. These two restaurants are in competition because they target the same market and are located within one block of each other. Each restaurant is owned by one of top restaurant companies in North America. Olive Garden is owned by Darden Restaurants which also owns Red Lobster, Smokey Bones, Bahama Breeze, Longhorn Steakhouse, and Seasons 52. Although Milestone s has a very similar target market to Olive Garden it is a substantially different restaurant. One of the biggest differences is that Milestone s has no ethnic theme to its décor or its menu. When asked, a Milestone s server described the theme to be Classic urban fare with globally inspired twists in an elegant but casual setting. This theme is carried out through the use of dark woods and brass throughout the interior as well as several Asian inspired menu items. The Langley location of Milestone s has approximately 200 seats including a 50 seat patio and 20 lounge seats situated around the bar. Despite the smaller size Milestone s maintains an average wait of 20 minutes with maximum waits approaching 45 minutes. This is one significant advantage over Olive Garden. Another distinct difference between the two restaurants is that Milestone s only utilizes booth seating, as opposed to the approximately half and half mix of tables and booths at the Olive Garden. The increased number of booths allows for a much more private atmosphere, as it more effectively separates the individual parties from one another. The menu offered at Milestone s has an excellent selection of entrees as well offering breakfast items which Olive Garden does not. • 34. Analysis Of George W. Bush On the evening of September 11, 2001, George W. Bush managed to change the country forever with a simple three letter word. President Bush gained numerous advantages following his renown speech. Many Americans lost their lives on 911 due to terrorism being used as a form of communication. Language is the cornerstone of all known societies and is essential for a country to thrive. Without language there is no understanding. Without understanding conflicts are inevitable. The Bush administration obtained a substantial amount of advantages solely from calling the 911 attacks a war . American citizens believed that they were obligated to trust every decision the government made. Primarily because American citizens believed that it was unpatriotic to disagree with government actions concerning the war against a perpetrating country.(Denton 2) Bush and his administration created a larger margin of error for themselves considering the American citizens most likely would not question any government decisions pertaining to the war . President Bush put himself on a high pedestal for a reason. By calling 911 a war Bush established the idea of an unquestionable retaliation. This instilled in Americans that their president would make confident, decisive decisions following a tragedy. Repressing doubts or concerns from opposing parties as well as persistent naysayers of President Bush. One of the biggest advantages gained from addressing 911 as a war was sending a ... The reasons that Goodyear was contemplating this offer was that Sears was replacing worn out Goodyear tires at a large amount every year. The tires were not being replaced with Goodyear tires because the customers at Sears wanted to replace their tires with the best possible tires that Sears offered, and the Goodyear tires were not in the offering. The company s major options in this decision were whether to sell only the Eagle brand tires or all of the Goodyear tire brands. Goodyear?s principal business is the development, manufacture, distribution and sale of tires throughout the world. The distribution of tires represented 83% of the company?s corporate sales of $10.9 billion in 1991. Around 60% of Goodyear worldwide sales were in the tire replacement market and 40% were to the original equipment market. Because of the Goodyear name, which is one of the best known brand names in the world, the Goodyear tires have been positioned and priced as premium quality brands. It is one of the leading national advertisers in the U.S. The company also operates around 1,000 company owned Goodyear Auto Service Centers and sells through 2,500 franchised Goodyear Tires Dealers in the U.S. These outlets account for a good portion of the company?s annual tire sales. Recommendations Because of an industry analysis that expects Sears to benefit from carrying Goodyear tires, I think it would be a good idea for Goodyear to sell their tires at Sears? stores. The fact that Goodyear is losing many customers to Sears by Sears not offering replacement tires to their customers is becoming a large loss of business for Goodyear. The customers at Sears are returning customers, and feel that the integrity of the company is well represented by the products they offer. For Goodyear to sell their products at the Sears stores, it would show that the Goodyear name stands for quality and that the product can be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Space Probes Research Paper The Investigation of the Large Outer Planets by the Space Probes, Voyager 1 and 2 and Casini The space probes voyager 1 and 2 were set off in 1977 on August the 20th and september the 5th from the NASA Kennedy Space Center at Cape Canaveral, Florida. This was because the suitable conditions for their mission wold not reoccur for approximately another 175 years. These conditions were that the planets were aligned in a certain way that would allow the probes to use specific planets to propel the probes further out into space. Due to the distance these probes traveled from the sun, solar energy was unable to be used as a power source. Instead the probes relied on the gravitational forces of the planets to propel them. This was able to happen because of a rare geometric arrangement of the planets in the late 1970s. The flybys that the spacecraft did of the outer planets would utilise the gravitational forces of the planets to sufficiently bend the course and increase the velocity of the probes so that they could reach their next destination. The probes were at first only designed to flyby Jupiter and Saturn, even though a four planet mission was known to be possible. This was at first rejected because it was believed it would be too expensive. More than 10,000 trajectories had to be studied before two were chosen that would allow close flybys of Jupiter and its moon Io, and Saturn and its moon Titan. ... • 39. Assessment Of Chronic Pain Assessment Assessment of chronic pain first begins with understanding what chronic pain is. Chronic pain is any pain with or without obvious injury that lasts longer than the expected healing period. Like many chronic diseases, it has periods of remission, an absence of symptoms, and exacerbation, an increase in the severity of the symptoms. A recent study suggested that chronic pain affects about 80% of elders in nursing homes. (Pateinakis, 2013) Proper treatment of chronic pain begins with gathering subjective and objective data about the client s pain. Before meeting with the client determine rather or not the client is capable of communicating about his or her pain. If the client is aphasic or severely demented, it may be necessary to ask family members and/or caregivers to be present during the interview to help answer questions. Even if the patient is able to communicate effectively, they may be more comfortable with loved ones nearby. Review any comorbidities that may be affecting the pain or even causing the pain. Also, note all medications the client is currently taking including herbal supplements and over the counter drugs, to prevent polypharmacy or even identify polypharmacy that is occurring already. Next, begin a focused interview. COLDSPA can be used effectively to gather all the specific information about the pain itself. Character is the description of the sign or symptom.
