Redundant Target Effect
Our daily task requires us to pay full attention towards them, with a full sense of concious. During
those daily tasks our attention is divided among our surroundings. It gives us the ability to multitask,
as we can foucus on multiple subjects at the same time. However, this ability declines as we age.
Older adults have a difficcult time processing information in the visual periphery. Mnay researches
have been done to compare young adult and older adults functional field of View (FFOV). Though the
expectation for the results of the research was not met, by measuring the retinal area from which
observers can collect information necessary to make specific judgements, we can determine the
differnce between young adults and old adults attention span. The experiement applied the redundant
target effect to compare it with single target conditions. Through the experiemnets psychologists were

The analysis of RTs (reaction time) and error are measured by Age X Target visual field. The resutls
indicated that older adults had longer RTs toward the targets in the lower visual field (LVF) than the
targets in the upper visual field (UVF). The RTs provided no evidence of interactions within the visual
fields because the targets either appered in the UVF or in LVF. The targets were not present in both
fields at the same time. The Rts had shorter redundent target trials than the single target trials because
the processing time is determined how fast and quick the channel in each trial are. This effect is
known as statistical faciliation. The redundant target reduce error rates, and displays with clutter had
higher errror rates than the no clutter display. Older adults showed more interaction of clutter than
young children. However, there was no evidence of speed accuracy, but suprisingly the capacity
appeared to be larger for older adults in clutered conditions and for targets farther in the retinal

If the absent parent does not comply I will make sure they suffer the consequences, and repercussions
they deserve. I also thing telling people my story would be a great help because they will see how I
was growing up and how its important to be there for your child. A child needs a mom and a dad one
parent should not have to raise one or more children alone it takes two parents to make it work. Just
because the parents are divorced or they broke up does not mean that the absent parent has to stop
coming around or even stop paying to help with the child. That child is still your responsibility.
The career path I have chosen can bring me fulfilment by being able to get families back on track. The
more I m successful in my job the more motivated I will be to contiune and grow and get better. I will
be the one who defends the child or teen, and I want them to have the best care from there absent
parent. I also want to get the parent to pay the child support, and be apart of his or her life. Its not all
about the money the child likes to know that they are loved by there parent. This is important because
it will show how much I care about the people in my community, and about the children s well

Homeless Veterans Are Becoming More Prevalent Of The...
INTRODUCTION
American homeless veterans are becoming more prevalent in the United States. Research will show
that American veterans are an overrepresented population among the homeless in the U.S. A homeless
veteran is an individual who lives on the streets, in abandoned buildings, vehicles, encampments,
shelters, or transitional housing (Veterans Today, 2013). As a matter of fact, homeless veterans do not
have a permanent residence under their control. Homelessness in general includes those who fit what
Martha Burt, et al. (2004) called street homeless , which they defined as single adults who spend a lot
of time on the streets; and the chronically homeless , which they defined as being disabled and either
continuously homeless for a year or more or having at least four homeless episodes during the last
three years.
In all honesty, cities across the country are faced with challenges and disparities of homeless
American veterans. Homelessness is visible in various ways in our local and state communities. It is
the empirical individual standing at the intersection holding a printed sign of Homeless God Bless you
, an individual pushing a grocery cart filled with clothing, sticks, and other personal belongings. By
the same token, these homeless individuals may also be seen pitching an old make ship tent under
overpasses, and in nearby wooded areas. As a United States Veteran, it is discouraging and
disheartening to see signs that read Homeless Veteran

King Leopold and the Belgian Congo Essay
King Leopold and the Belgian Congo
It is widely debated why exactly King Leopold decided to conquer the Congo, but the general
consensus seems to be that it was out of the belief that the highlands of the Congo may be as rich in
gold as the mountains of the western slope of the American Continent (Stead). In the mid 1870s, the
King hired Henry Stanley, who was familiar with many parts of Africa, to help him go about
conquering. During the following years Stanley stayed in Africa, talking various tribes into signing
over their lands and rights. After this was completed the King officially took over the Congo,
renaming it the Congo Free State. This was especially ironic because all natives of the country were
either forced to give up ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Eventually, word started to spread about what was going on. The public had strongly believed that the
natives were benefiting from being civilized through their forced labor. However, between disgusted
Belgian officials and authors such as Joseph Conrad and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, the truth was
becoming clearer. In 1904, the Congo Reform Association was founded. Four years later, King
Leopold was made to turn over the Belgian Congo to the Belgian government. Much of the collected
evidence against him was in the form of photographs. The king had managed to successfully bribe
almost every single person who might otherwise have made a witness against the goings on in the
Belgian Congo, as it was renamed after being handed over to the Belgian government. This did very
little good for the people of the Congo; they were still being overworked, repressed, and denied basic
human rights. The situation was more than a little embarrassing for the king, who disliked his
authority being overshadowed. Still, his profit from the matter was no cause for complaint. Leopold s
original investment was said to be somewhere in the neighborhood of six and a half million dollars;
the financial gain was that number, multiplied many times over. Compared to Belgium s profit, during
its time of colonization the population of the Congo was decreased by

This is another disadvantage as can be noticed in the international firms that maintain presence in the
country. This is because there is a need for competitiveness to be on a level ground if these firms are
to be profitable, but the note from all indication is that the chances of these firms to successes are
limited as a result of the limitation in their competitive capacity because the government has already
given the local firms a higher competitive advantage by imposing higher task on international brand,

Compare And Contrast The Hobbit Book And Movie
Compare and Contrast Informational Paper I read the novel, The Hobbit by J. R. R. Tolkien,
afterwards I watched the movie, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. The Hobbit is about a hobbit,
Bilbo Baggins, who is whisked off into an adventure. The adventure is about taking back treasure
from the dragon Smaug for the a group of dwarves. Along the way, he gets a magic ring from a
creature called Gollum. The Hobbit and its movie are similar and different from each other in a variety
of ways. The elements and ideas of the book are similar to the movie by in the book and movie Bilbo
is reluctant about adventuring, but gains confidence over the adventure, and the start of the adventure
being similar. First, Bilbo starts out reluctant, but gains confidence and courage over time when told of
the adventure in the book and movie. In the book on page 27, Don t be a fool, Bilbo Baggins! he said
to himself, thinking of dragons and all that outlandish nonsense at your age! The examples display
Bilbo being reluctant to go on the adventure, but then developing courage and confidence by doing
more daunting and dangerous tasks which is shown in both the book and movie. Second, the start of
the adventure are both similar in the book and movie. In the book in chapter 1, Gandalf comes to
Bilbo s house to leave the mark on his door, and all of the dwarves come for An Unexpected Party
where they eventually tell Bilbo that he will be the burglar for the adventure. At the beginning of the
movie, Gandalf also comes to Bilbo s house to chat, leave ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Causes And Effects Of Autism
When someone mentions electric shock therapy what comes to your mind? Is there a connection
somewhere in your family tree to Fragile X ? Are there toxins in the air that are more dangerous than
we think? Can watching too much television while you are pregnant actually be harmful to your
unborn baby? What could all of these questions possibly have in common? The answer is Autism.
Imagine the overwhelming joy of holding your healthy newborn child and counting ten perfect fingers
and toes. It is hard to believe, when you look at his big blue eyes and dimples, that he could ever be
anything less than perfect. But two years later, you hear the words your child has autism , and can t
help wondering if you are responsible in some way.
Thesis Statement
There is growing evidence that the rapid rise in reported cases of autism is caused, and influenced
equally, by genetic and environmental factors. Environmental factors include a broad range of
influences as varied as parental age, birth complications and maternal nutrition at conception, vaccines
and exposure to pollution during early brain development. Most genetic factors are considered in
combination with environmental ones. It is believed that over time genetic changes brought on by the
environment are passed on to future generations predisposing them to disorders as autism. While
thousands of dollars and countless studies claim to have found a concrete link between environmental
and genetic factors and the new

The Glass Menagerie Essay
The Glass Menagerie
In The Glass Menagerie, Tennessee Williams places his characters in difficult situations throughout
the play. Laura Wingfield is a very shy person with an illness that has left her crippled. This illness
makes Laura fearful and it causes her to think less of herself. Amanda Wingfield (laura s mother)
fancies laura to marry a man that will care for her, since she is young and dependent. Laura accepts
the fact that she will not have any gentleman callers because she is insecure of herself. Anxiety
crushes laura in finding that her high school crush will be attending them for dinner. Laura shares
similar characteristics to her glass unicorn because they are both unique and fragile.
To start off, in The Glass Menagerie, Laura has to face many standards in her love life. Amanda

Immigrants In The 1920 s
Most immigrants to america were coming during the late 19th and early 20th century for the most
obvious reason, opportunity. Industrialization both in manufacturing and agriculture meant that there
were jobs in america. There was so much work in fact that companies used labor recruiters who went
to europe to advertise opportunities. The lower east side of manhattan became the magnet for waves of
immigrants, first germans, then eastern european jews and Italians. Immigrants flocked to the United
States from all over the world in this time period. Millions of Europeans moved to the United States
where they drove the growth of cities and manned the rapid industrialization that was taking place.

What Defines a Good Leader?
In today s society, there are some people who possesses the qualities of outstanding leadership. Also,
in today s society, there are some people who keep qualities of a poor leader. A good leader is
someone who reads and understands their own emotions and recognize the impact on themselves and
others. Another thing great leaders do is think and act with optimism, by looking at the positives and
not so much on the negatives. Another great strength a good leader has is that he or she knows the
strengths and limits of the certain people on their team (Hewertson). Furthermore, a great leader leads

Coach Krzyzewski or Coach K, people call him, was born in Chicago, Illinois, on February 13, 1947.
Coach K was the son of William and Emily Krzyzewski. His father was an elevator operator and his
mother was a cleaner. At an early age Krzyzewski excelled both in athletics and leadership. He was an
exceptional basketball and baseball player. Also, took the initiative to organize an eight grade
basketball team to play in a local league, but the nuns disengaged in not allowing him toestablish the
league with his formal squad. In high school, Krzyzewski led Chicago s Catholic Basketball League in
scoring, and drew Bobby Knight s attention. So, Coach Bobby Knight recruited Krzyzewski and
Krzyzewski played for Coach Knight at the United States Military Academy known as West Point.
After graduating from West Point, he coached at the U.S. Military Academy Prep School in Belvoir,
Virginia and at various Army teams around the United States. Then in 1974 he worked with his
college coach, Bobby Knight, as a graduated assistant. After being a graduate assistant for Coach
Knight, he went back to West Point and turned the team around from being 3 22 to being 9 17, his
worst season ever as a coach. After his reign at West Point, he received a head coach offer from Duke
University. At Duke University, coach K s coaching method was viewed similar to his mentor Bobby

being a leader, he took with him to help him succeed as an exceptional leader and coach at Duke

Digital And Technology And Copyright
Technology and Copyright
Introduction
Digital and networking technology have vastly reshaped the way the world acquires and uses
knowledge; by increasing the amount of creative content that is available to everyone worldwide and
the variety of sources from which an individual can choose to acquire that data. This content is often
created by many individuals collaborating to form large groups of people who all contribute creative
content. Intellectual property (IP) is the content that is created by either an individual or a group of
individuals. The distribution of free content, software, and ideas has successfully limited many
societies dependency for established channels of distribution and production [cyberethics]. More and
more however as the internet becomes a digitally real the ability to go to the internet and escape the
established channels of distribution has become increasingly difficult, concerns over the legal issues
with the way some, or at times most, of the ways material is acquired. Some experts believe that
intellectual property laws have stifled the access to many of these works, and in doing so have
decreased the rate at which the creative content can expand, grow, and progress. Laws like the Digital
Millennial Copyright Act (DMCA) and the Copyright Term Extension Act (CTEA) have shifted,
perhaps unfairly, the balance between intellectual property owners and the general users of these
creative works. These laws have been put into affect for the sole

According to today s society, men are women are equal and have equal rights. Although we all try to
believe this, the fact is almost every language and culture is male dominated. Men have always been
favoured and believed to be superior to women, which still exists in some third world countries, such
as Afghanistan. F. Scott Fitzgerald s classic novel, The Great Gatsby, portrays how women were
treated during the 1920s. In the novel, women play the role of an object for men s pleasure, a strong

Just as Biff and Happy in Death of a Salesman, written by Arthur Miller, use their women as objects
by seeking them for their own pleasure and disrespect them, so too does Tom towards Myrtle not only
as he seeks her based on his schedule for his own pleasure, but also as he broke her nose with his open
hand (39).
Jordan Baker takes on the role of a strong female figure in the novel. She takes action when she meets
Nick, as she held [his] hand impersonally (44), compared to the other women like Daisy, who are
passive. She also is involved in golf, which is not the typical woman during the 1920s. She earns her
money through this talent oppose to Daisy, who relies on her husband for money, which shows her
strong figure as she is independent. Similar to Lauren Conrad from the reality show, The Hills, who is
independent and works for her own money, so it is Jordan, which sets her strong female figure in this
novel.
Daisy Buchanan plays the role of a materialistic female. She relies on her husband, Tom Buchanan s
wealth, as her voice is full of money (115). According to Tori DeAngelis research, when people are
insecure they become more materialistic as a way to adapt , which is shown through Daisy s character
as she masks her unhappiness through materialism as a result of her husband s infidelity. As a result of
being with Tom for materialistic interest, she suffers the consequences as she is constantly ordered by

The Steam Engine And The Industrial Revolution
Steam Engine The Industrial Revolution took place from the 18th to the 19th centuries. The Industrial
Revolution was a period during which predominantly agrarian, rural societies in Europe and America
became industrial and urban. Prior to the Industrial Revolution which began in Britain in the late
1700s, manufacturing was often done in people s homes, using handtools or basic machines.
Industrialization marked a shift to powered, special purpose machinery, factories and mass production.
The iron and textile industries, along with the development of the steam engine, played central roles in
the Industrial Revolution. The way the iron and textile industries and the development of the steam
engine played central roles in the Industrial Revolution is the things they led to such as improved
systems of transportation, communication and banking. The invention of the steam engine happened
in 1698 by Thomas Savery. The first invention of the steam engine was not quite called the steam
engine, it was actually first called water by fire . It was called water by fire because it was first used to
pump water out from the mines. The water by fire worked by boiling water until it was completely
converted into vapor. The steam was then collected in a tank extracting every droplet of vapor from
the original tank, thereby creating a vacuum in the original container. It was this vacuum that was
employed to produce an adequate amount of energy to pump water out from the mines. The

The Godfather Character Analysis Essay
The old saying, Behind every great man is a great woman, is true in the case of Michael Corleone, the
son of Don Vito Corleone of The Godfather. The film focuses on the story of Michael and how he
changes from a respectable, educated Marine to the ringleader of his father s mafia business. In
between the drastic turn of events, Michael has two love interests, both of which have a large, yet
quiet, impact on his life. Kay Adams, the first of the two love interests, is the average American
woman. She is educated, smart, and possibly a bit too liberated for a female of that time period, but
she is a loved character because of this. Kay s relationship with Michael started before the movie and
they seem to enjoy a pleasant romance and friendship, but it is put on hold when Michael goes to
Sicily to evade charges of a murder he committed. The second of the love interests is Apollonia Vitelli,
a Sicilian native whom Michael met when he was in hiding in Italy. She was the complete opposite of
Kay and was raised by a traditional Italian family. I think you got hit by the thunderbolt, says one of
Corleone s bodyguards when Michael sees Apollonia for the first time. The two are in love and soon
married, though it is short lived when a bomb meant for Michael is ignited and kills Apollonia.
Michael then returns to his home in New York and pursues a relationship and marriage with Kay
Adams. Before Michael hid in Sicily, he was a man of sincerity and held a deep compassion for

African Music Research Paper
Africa, a continent rich in culture and diversity, sets the base of my cultural lecture. Being filled with
many distinct yet close bonded countries in which have different yet similar sounds musically, paved
the way and has had its impartation of our music today. Coming from an African background, I
thought it would only be proper for me to focus more in on my roots. For centuries now African music
has been commended to not only having dissecting beats and rhythms, but to also have spiritual ties
with its rich heritage. Through the slave trade, the rich traditional of African music was divided and
set to evolve along with its people.
Although what was taught to be the traditional african sound of music, has indeed evolved over the
centuries. Many traces of what was known as the traditional sound are archaeological. What
differentiated traditional African music from another were their uses of unique instruments. In the
Yoruba culture in Nigeria, west Africa, ig̀bìn drums were used in their traditional festivals from the
10th to the 14th century ad. Congo, another neighboring country in Africa used iron bells to depict

Durkheim on Solidarity
Durkheim on solidarity Of all the things I ve learned about from researching Durkheim s thoughts and
ideas, the most striking one were the ones which surrounded social solidarity. To put it simply, social
solidarity is a set of norms, values and morals that hold a certain group of people together. He
described it as a wholly moral phenomenon which by itself is not amenable to exact observation and
especially not to measurement (Durkheim 1997). Durkheim believed that there were two types of
solidarity, Mechanical and Organic Mechanical solidarity, despite what one might guess from its
name, describes the social integration of members of a society who are connected by their
homogeneity of beliefs, values and lifestyle. The defining ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In contrast, in organic solidarity the weight of responsibility falls on the shoulders on the individual
and is viewed as an outlier in society rather than the one who represents it. Although Durkheim
generally thought that organic societies were the way forward and that mechanical societies had many
problems it would be a mistake to that organic soldieries are without flaws. The increased freedom
and the focus on the individual comes at the cost of the community and reduced social ties.
Community is no longer the centre piece of society (Durkheim 1997). It is common when individuals
in the city to go through periods of change in their lives they become depressed. This depression can
become overwhelming as in organic societies there is an increase in the feeling of isolation and a lack
of support. Sadness does not inhere in things; it does not reach us from the world and through mere
contemplation of the world. It is a product of our own thought. (Durkheim 1897). Durkheim believed
that by moving from mechanical to organic societies we were losing our sense of community and that
sadness was a possible outcome Durkheim s study of social solidarities is an extensive one. It is very
easy to relate to Durkheim s theories on the structures of societies and see where they come into play.
The Strengths and weaknesses of these two conflicting solidarities allow for an untold amount of
debate and discussion to be derived. Bibliography Durkheim, E, (1997) The Division of

The Battle Plan For The Marine Artillery Batteries

commanders had been briefed, they returned to their men and women, and briefed them. This went on

two companies in a feint to the east. Where the artillery had softened up the line. The artillery would
continue in the area until the two companies had moved and were ready to advance. By 0530, they
were prepared to execute the second plan, the two companies were well hidden in the woods, once the
artillery stopped they would charge the line as quickly as they could, trying to overcome the Soldiers
that were there with speed and aggressiveness. The Marines received word via radio that the artillery

Advantages Of Adversarial Legal System
The origin of the adversarial legal system is very blurry and vague, but the system has been around
quite a while and approaches to handle criminal proceeding in a totally opposite method, compared to
the inquisitorial legal system. Before discussing the effectiveness and the advantages of a adversarial
legal system, it is a good idea to understand the system. Adversarial legal system began in England
with common law, and most countries with common law usually tend to follow the adversarial legal
system but some countries based on civil law like France, and the Netherlands follow the inquisitorial
legal system (). The main difference between the two systems is the role of judge, in an inquisitorial
legal system the judge is more involves with the case but in the adversarial legal system the judge s
role gets reduced to a neutral third party only to just hear the case, presented by the prosecutor and
defense attorney. In Canada our legal system is based around common law and hence resulting in our
adversarial legal system, the system is incredibly effective and features many advantages when
compared to its counterpart the inquisitorial system. The key elements which allow the adversarial
system to be effective are the role judge, fair opportunity for both defendant and prosecutor to present
their case while their rights being protected, and finally the introduction of the restorative justice.
The Role of the judge in an adversarial system is its greatest strength when

Present Job Analysis of a Clerk
I am a clerk one employed at Public Health Services Department for almost five years; I was quite
satisfied and happy doing my current job. One aspect of my job is assisting in the processing of Food
Badge. Recently I have gotten dissatisfied with my job; reason being the process of persons applying
for their food badges has changed without really consulting me being that I am normally in the
forefront facing customers each day. Due to this sudden change my job has become a bit challenging
for me to do it on my own. In light of this, I would have highlighted the issues I am being faced with
by the new development put in place to my supervisors and the persons who are responsible for the
change. To no avail nothing was done to aid my plea.
This new change which has been implemented had made me very frustrated and not feeling
enthusiastic about working when the day comes. My disposition on a day to day basis is not a pleasant
one. I know to myself that this is not a productive attitude I should be having because it can have
adverse effects being the face of the organization as it reflects my attitude and the kind of service I
will provide to customers. In addition to that, colleagues maybe offended by my attitude, in which can
create a negative work environment for them. Hence I have changed my perspective in regards to my
attitude, and focusing on the goal that I am striving towards and enjoying the work rather than being
frustrated.

Gender Stereotypes And The Socialization Process
Gender Stereotypes and the Socialization Process
The pursuit of gender equality is a central element of a vision of sustainability in which every Member
of Society respects others and plays a role that allows you to take advantage of their potential to the
fullest. The broad goal of gender equality is a social goal that education and other social institutions
should contribute. Gender discrimination is embed in the fabric of societies. In many societies, women
bear the main burden of food production and child rearing. Also, women are often excluded from the
family or Community decisions that affect their lives and well being.
The Parents stereotyped by the gender Classified by gender expectations can occur regarding
personality traits (for example, children are aggressive), skills (for example, girls are good for
reading), activities, and roles (for example, men are scientists). While gender equality has increased in
many cultures over the past decades, there has been a parallel growth in adults regarding the adoption
of attitudes that reflect gender equality. Now there is more variation among parents; some have
traditional expectations and others expressing expectations equal to their daughters and sons.
Similarly, some parents can support egalitarian views on certain fields (e.g. occupations) but are still
more traditional concerning other areas (for example, family roles). Finally, parents (especially men)
tend to be more rigid in their expectations for the

Billy Bathegate by EL Doctorow Essay
Billy Bathegate by EL Doctorow Billy Bathgate is an important American novel in it s portrayal of
one young man s evolution from boyhood to maturity. The novel is about a fifteen year old boy that
gets taken under the wing of Dutch Schultz, a 1930 s gangster trying to keep a hold of his diminishing
empire. As the novel unfolds, so does the rising maturity of the tough young man introduced to us as
Billy Bathgate. Billy finds himself in situations that most of us never see in our whole life. In
difference to the reactions that most people would have in these situations, Billy learns from them in
order to better his role in the crime family. It is for these reasons that the young fifteen year old boy
quickly develops into a man. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

talking about. The novel kind of grabs you and dares you to put it down because it knows that you can

youth, with it s boundless resilience and illusions of immortality. (Bemrose 58 9) He (Doctorow) is
interested not in the abstractions of corruption, but in the simple, emotional things of the criminal
existence what it feels like to be a gangster, what moral and psychological universe one inhabit. It s
day to day mechanics and, perhaps most importantly, how one survives a life of violence.
Thus, underneath the soft prose of Billy s voice, we are given glimpses of the murderous danger of the
criminal life, and how the people who live it, particularly it s leaders, keep their heads above water.

Doctorow accomplishes the task of recreating the Bronx in the 1930 s with perfection. Everything
from the attitude of the depression to the realness of the gang scene is more than vividly expressed

manner that the reader can smell the tension of financial burden in

Emily Dickinson s Black Lives Matter !
Black Lives Matter! This quote has been a theme in America for the past almost 200 years. The Civil
War made equality a constant theme, by how it impacted all of America. Among those impacted by the
Civil War is one of the greatest, most original American poets, Emily Dickinson (Smith)(Marcellin).
Emily Dickinson was born December 10, 1830, in Amherst, Massachusetts. She died at the age of 55
on May 15, 1886, in the home where she spent the majority of her life (Bloom 12). She was never
married and had no romantic relationships. However, American poet and social commentator Allen
Tate stated, All pity for Miss Dickinson s starved life is misdirected. Her life was one of the richest
and deepest ever lived on this continent, (Brand). Not only was her life rich, she created numerous
masterpieces that were not discovered until after her death (Bloom 12). Emily s poetry is known for its
emotional and intellectual energy. She expresses extremes of passion, love, despair, dread, and elation
throughout her work. In her poem Color Caste Denomination, Emily comments on, in an indirect
manner, the ridiculousness of racism and judgement. The writer of this poem, though socially quiet,
wrote with a persuasive tone (Crumbley). As stated in Color Caste Denomination, racism has, and
always will be, an unnecessary judgment of vanishing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

like 16 and 17, I am tired of this stuff, I am tired of this business. This song conveys a message that
skin color doesn t matter. It is no cause or excuse for discrimination. Black or White is a very modern
and complementary work to Emily s poem, both speak of the wrongness of judging others based on

Colonial Middle Class American Life Essay
Middle Class Americans
American middle class life was greatly influenced throughout 1870 1917. There were many profound
changes, however the American industrialization and urbanization were the most rapid and
unquestionably the most important. The industrialist brought forth household names that are still
around today such as Swift, Armour, Westinghouse, Pillsbury, Pullman, Rocketfeller, Carnegie, and
Duke. Due to the rapid movement of industrialization, so began a movement of urbanization. Between
1860 and 1910, urban population increased sevenfold and by the 1920 s more than half of all
Americans lived in cities. Along with the cities came more use of electricity, electric lights,
telephones, and eventually appliances. Appliances ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, there is a side by side comparison of two men; one uses the William s Shaving Soap and
the other cheap soap. In the first picture there is a man with a smooth clean shave. As for the second
picture there is a man with what appears to be a blood poison rash on his cheek. The picture of the
clean shaved man has a caption that states, This view shows face as shaved daily for years with the
famous William s Shaving Soap always soft fresh bright and healthy. Not a pimple in over twenty
years shaving experience. As for the second picture with the blood poison rashed man, This view
shows the effect of being shaved once with an impure so called cheap shaving soap. Blood poison
caused by applying impure animal fats to the tender cuticle of the face. The message that the William s
Shaving Soap company is trying to send to consumers is, without using William s soap, other cheap
imitations can lead to blood Poison rash and alter your appearance. These two ads are just examples of
the peer pressure Americans had to deal with during this era. With technology advancing and
appliance coming forth rapidly middle class Americans had many crucial decisions to make with the
little money they made.
There were many hopes, values, and fears of middle class Americans during that era. Middle class
Americans of that era had very strict values. Women did not work; they tended to everyday chores
around the homes. For example, women would cook,

Aaron Schwartz Research Paper
Aaron Schwartz This essay is about the personality of the internet activism Aaron Schwartz. .People
could say that the perfect citizen does not exist, I actually do not know if that is true, but what I surely
know is that Aaron was perfect citizen for me: Everything in Aaron is special; the way he dresses, the
way he moves, the way he behaves, the way he speaks etc. Sometimes, I just think that it could be
great if he stayed alive, he would have done many things, if I could be a petit percent of what he is.
But let s start to describe the way that Arron looks like. At first sight, you could see that he doesn t
care about his clothes; however, when you will know him, you could notice that he dresses all kinds
different cheap informal clothes such as jeans and T shirts. His clothes fit well with the way he looks,
Arron is tall and thin, he always has a long hair, and he is black haired. In other words Arron
appearance is simply unique. The idea of him spending his money seem so impossible for example,
when he moved to San Francisco to work, after he sold his website (Reddit.com) to a giant wired
magazine for more than one million dollar He ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

execute what he learned, I wish I could read as he does. When he speaks is easy to notice his
expressions, because he always progressive and in his best shape even when he booked by the police,
he was serious and willing to defy authority in one minute and joke around within the next. His
expressions are something that makes him even more interesting to listen to him. He was really

Examples Of View Of Paul In Tangerine
The main point of this story, Tangerine, by Edward Bloor, is how the people who are looked down
upon see from different points of view. An example of this is the main character, Paul, who is
considered blind by many and is often looked down upon in society, however, he often sees what
others do not and has excessive knowledge of the world around him. Even though he sees everything,
he does not say what he knows and others do not ask him, for they believe he has no knowledge of the
problems. After moving to Tangerine, he sees his brother doing horrible things and his parents none
the wiser. His friend suffers at the hands of his brother and is eventually killed, and afterwards, Paul
feels much guilt for the words unsaid. Since Paul is often looked down upon, he notices facts and
clues society does not, however he fears saying something, in which causes his friend to be murdered.

It is as if Paul lives in the sun and knowledge of the world, baring that burden while others in society
live in darkness with slight sliver of light from the moon believing they know the world to its full
extent when in reality they are blind and in the dark. This affects Paul since he possess ideas from
another point of view that others have no clue about. This is important because without the knowledge
that Paul posses, he would be like his none the wiser parents, which would affect the story a great
deal. For example, on page 152, Paul tells his friend, Don t do this. Don t come in here with attitude.
Paul knows how to adapt to the places around him and knows that by accepting the facts and the brunt
of the blow, they will accept him begin to

Regimental Awards Program
Regimental Awards Program recognize Officers, Non commissioned Officer, Soldiers and Civilians
for excellence, within the Engineer Regiment, while emphasizing the military engineer history,
customs and the traditions of the Corp. Several of the awards are named after significant figures with
the Engineer Regiment, the De Fluery, the Itschner, the Van Autreve, and the Sturgis. The others, are
specifically named after the category of the recognized, platoon leader, chief warrant, or civilian. All
Regimental awards are considered supplemental awards, the meaning they are not part of the Official
Army Awards system. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I touched on the supplemental nature of these awards. In my opinion making these awards
supplemental short changes the recipient, they have displayed superior proficiency and leadership
within the regiment. While they have been officially recognized by the award, it doesn t help them
achieve promotion above their peers, add promotion points to their promotion worksheet, or even give
them an addition ribbon for their rack. The awards are essentially the equivalent of a coin, while you
are being thanked for your superior service, they possess little benefit for the individual toward
promotion. Transitioning the regimental awards to a more official status could make the awards more
prestigious, inspire greater competition for the awards, and help recipients advance within the
regiment. All of these afore mentioned, benefit the Engineer Regiment as a whole, and would help
individuals demonstrating proficiency move through the ranks more rapidly than their

It gives us the ability to multitask, as we can foucus on multiple subjects at the same time. However, this ability declines as we age. Older adults have a difficcult time processing information in the visual periphery. Mnay researches have been done to compare young adult and older adults functional field of View (FFOV). Though the expectation for the results of the research was not met, by measuring the retinal area from which observers can collect information necessary to make specific judgements, we can determine the differnce between young adults and old adults attention span. The analysis of RTs (reaction time) and error are measured by Age X Target visual field. The resutls indicated that older adults had longer RTs toward the targets in the lower visual field (LVF) than the targets in the upper visual field (UVF). The RTs provided no evidence of interactions within the visual fields because the targets either appered in the UVF or in LVF. The targets were not present in both fields at the same time. The Rts had shorter redundent target trials than the single target trials because the processing time is determined how fast and quick the channel in each trial are. This effect is known as statistical faciliation. The redundant target reduce error rates, and displays with clutter had higher errror rates than the no clutter display. Older adults showed more interaction of clutter than young children. However, there was no evidence of speed accuracy, but suprisingly the capacity appeared to be larger for older adults in clutered conditions and for targets farther in the retinal ... • 5. Homeless Veterans Are Becoming More Prevalent Of The... INTRODUCTION American homeless veterans are becoming more prevalent in the United States. Research will show that American veterans are an overrepresented population among the homeless in the U.S. A homeless veteran is an individual who lives on the streets, in abandoned buildings, vehicles, encampments, shelters, or transitional housing (Veterans Today, 2013). As a matter of fact, homeless veterans do not have a permanent residence under their control. Homelessness in general includes those who fit what Martha Burt, et al. (2004) called street homeless , which they defined as single adults who spend a lot of time on the streets; and the chronically homeless , which they defined as being disabled and either continuously homeless for a year or more or having at least four homeless episodes during the last three years. In all honesty, cities across the country are faced with challenges and disparities of homeless American veterans. Homelessness is visible in various ways in our local and state communities. It is the empirical individual standing at the intersection holding a printed sign of Homeless God Bless you , an individual pushing a grocery cart filled with clothing, sticks, and other personal belongings. By the same token, these homeless individuals may also be seen pitching an old make ship tent under overpasses, and in nearby wooded areas. • 6. King Leopold and the Belgian Congo Essay King Leopold and the Belgian Congo It is widely debated why exactly King Leopold decided to conquer the Congo, but the general consensus seems to be that it was out of the belief that the highlands of the Congo may be as rich in gold as the mountains of the western slope of the American Continent (Stead). In the mid 1870s, the King hired Henry Stanley, who was familiar with many parts of Africa, to help him go about conquering. During the following years Stanley stayed in Africa, talking various tribes into signing over their lands and rights. After this was completed the King officially took over the Congo, renaming it the Congo Free State. This was especially ironic because all natives of the country were either forced to give up ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Eventually, word started to spread about what was going on. The public had strongly believed that the natives were benefiting from being civilized through their forced labor. However, between disgusted Belgian officials and authors such as Joseph Conrad and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, the truth was becoming clearer. In 1904, the Congo Reform Association was founded. Four years later, King Leopold was made to turn over the Belgian Congo to the Belgian government. Much of the collected evidence against him was in the form of photographs. The king had managed to successfully bribe almost every single person who might otherwise have made a witness against the goings on in the Belgian Congo, as it was renamed after being handed over to the Belgian government. This did very little good for the people of the Congo; they were still being overworked, repressed, and denied basic human rights. The situation was more than a little embarrassing for the king, who disliked his authority being overshadowed. Still, his profit from the matter was no cause for complaint. Leopold s original investment was said to be somewhere in the neighborhood of six and a half million dollars; the financial gain was that number, multiplied many times over. Are there toxins in the air that are more dangerous than we think? Can watching too much television while you are pregnant actually be harmful to your unborn baby? What could all of these questions possibly have in common? The answer is Autism. Imagine the overwhelming joy of holding your healthy newborn child and counting ten perfect fingers and toes. It is hard to believe, when you look at his big blue eyes and dimples, that he could ever be anything less than perfect. But two years later, you hear the words your child has autism , and can t help wondering if you are responsible in some way. Thesis Statement There is growing evidence that the rapid rise in reported cases of autism is caused, and influenced equally, by genetic and environmental factors. Environmental factors include a broad range of influences as varied as parental age, birth complications and maternal nutrition at conception, vaccines and exposure to pollution during early brain development. Most genetic factors are considered in combination with environmental ones. It is believed that over time genetic changes brought on by the environment are passed on to future generations predisposing them to disorders as autism. Digital And Technology And Copyright Technology and Copyright Introduction Digital and networking technology have vastly reshaped the way the world acquires and uses knowledge; by increasing the amount of creative content that is available to everyone worldwide and the variety of sources from which an individual can choose to acquire that data. This content is often created by many individuals collaborating to form large groups of people who all contribute creative content. Intellectual property (IP) is the content that is created by either an individual or a group of individuals. The distribution of free content, software, and ideas has successfully limited many societies dependency for established channels of distribution and production [cyberethics]. More and more however as the internet becomes a digitally real the ability to go to the internet and escape the established channels of distribution has become increasingly difficult, concerns over the legal issues with the way some, or at times most, of the ways material is acquired. Some experts believe that intellectual property laws have stifled the access to many of these works, and in doing so have decreased the rate at which the creative content can expand, grow, and progress. Laws like the Digital Millennial Copyright Act (DMCA) and the Copyright Term Extension Act (CTEA) have shifted, perhaps unfairly, the balance between intellectual property owners and the general users of these creative works. Although we all try to believe this, the fact is almost every language and culture is male dominated. Men have always been favoured and believed to be superior to women, which still exists in some third world countries, such as Afghanistan. F. Jordan Baker takes on the role of a strong female figure in the novel. • 16. The Steam Engine And The Industrial Revolution Steam Engine The Industrial Revolution took place from the 18th to the 19th centuries. The Industrial Revolution was a period during which predominantly agrarian, rural societies in Europe and America became industrial and urban. Prior to the Industrial Revolution which began in Britain in the late 1700s, manufacturing was often done in people s homes, using handtools or basic machines. Industrialization marked a shift to powered, special purpose machinery, factories and mass production. The iron and textile industries, along with the development of the steam engine, played central roles in the Industrial Revolution. The way the iron and textile industries and the development of the steam engine played central roles in the Industrial Revolution is the things they led to such as improved systems of transportation, communication and banking. The invention of the steam engine happened in 1698 by Thomas Savery. The first invention of the steam engine was not quite called the steam engine, it was actually first called water by fire . It was called water by fire because it was first used to pump water out from the mines. The water by fire worked by boiling water until it was completely converted into vapor. The steam was then collected in a tank extracting every droplet of vapor from the original tank, thereby creating a vacuum in the original container. It was this vacuum that was employed to produce an adequate amount of energy to pump water out from the mines. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 17. The Godfather Character Analysis Essay The old saying, Behind every great man is a great woman, is true in the case of Michael Corleone, the son of Don Vito Corleone of The Godfather. The film focuses on the story of Michael and how he changes from a respectable, educated Marine to the ringleader of his father s mafia business. In between the drastic turn of events, Michael has two love interests, both of which have a large, yet quiet, impact on his life. Kay Adams, the first of the two love interests, is the average American woman. She is educated, smart, and possibly a bit too liberated for a female of that time period, but she is a loved character because of this. Kay s relationship with Michael started before the movie and they seem to enjoy a pleasant romance and friendship, but it is put on hold when Michael goes to Sicily to evade charges of a murder he committed. The second of the love interests is Apollonia Vitelli, a Sicilian native whom Michael met when he was in hiding in Italy. She was the complete opposite of Kay and was raised by a traditional Italian family. I think you got hit by the thunderbolt, says one of Corleone s bodyguards when Michael sees Apollonia for the first time. The two are in love and soon married, though it is short lived when a bomb meant for Michael is ignited and kills Apollonia. Michael then returns to his home in New York and pursues a relationship and marriage with Kay Adams. Before Michael hid in Sicily, he was a man of sincerity and held a deep compassion for human ... • 19. Durkheim on Solidarity Durkheim on solidarity Of all the things I ve learned about from researching Durkheim s thoughts and ideas, the most striking one were the ones which surrounded social solidarity. To put it simply, social solidarity is a set of norms, values and morals that hold a certain group of people together. He described it as a wholly moral phenomenon which by itself is not amenable to exact observation and especially not to measurement (Durkheim 1997). Durkheim believed that there were two types of solidarity, Mechanical and Organic Mechanical solidarity, despite what one might guess from its name, describes the social integration of members of a society who are connected by their homogeneity of beliefs, values and lifestyle. In contrast, in organic solidarity the weight of responsibility falls on the shoulders on the individual and is viewed as an outlier in society rather than the one who represents it. Although Durkheim generally thought that organic societies were the way forward and that mechanical societies had many problems it would be a mistake to that organic soldieries are without flaws. The increased freedom and the focus on the individual comes at the cost of the community and reduced social ties. Community is no longer the centre piece of society (Durkheim 1997). It is common when individuals in the city to go through periods of change in their lives they become depressed. This depression can become overwhelming as in organic societies there is an increase in the feeling of isolation and a lack of support. Sadness does not inhere in things; it does not reach us from the world and through mere contemplation of the world. It is a product of our own thought. (Durkheim 1897). Durkheim believed that by moving from mechanical to organic societies we were losing our sense of community and that sadness was a possible outcome Durkheim s study of social solidarities is an extensive one. Advantages Of Adversarial Legal System The origin of the adversarial legal system is very blurry and vague, but the system has been around quite a while and approaches to handle criminal proceeding in a totally opposite method, compared to the inquisitorial legal system. Before discussing the effectiveness and the advantages of a adversarial legal system, it is a good idea to understand the system. Adversarial legal system began in England with common law, and most countries with common law usually tend to follow the adversarial legal system but some countries based on civil law like France, and the Netherlands follow the inquisitorial legal system (). The main difference between the two systems is the role of judge, in an inquisitorial legal system the judge is more involves with the case but in the adversarial legal system the judge s role gets reduced to a neutral third party only to just hear the case, presented by the prosecutor and defense attorney. In Canada our legal system is based around common law and hence resulting in our adversarial legal system, the system is incredibly effective and features many advantages when compared to its counterpart the inquisitorial system. The key elements which allow the adversarial system to be effective are the role judge, fair opportunity for both defendant and prosecutor to present their case while their rights being protected, and finally the introduction of the restorative justice. The Civil War made equality a constant theme, by how it impacted all of America. Among those impacted by the Civil War is one of the greatest, most original American poets, Emily Dickinson (Smith)(Marcellin). Emily Dickinson was born December 10, 1830, in Amherst, Massachusetts. However, American poet and social commentator Allen Tate stated, All pity for Miss Dickinson s starved life is misdirected. Her life was one of the richest and deepest ever lived on this continent, (Brand). Not only was her life rich, she created numerous masterpieces that were not discovered until after her death (Bloom 12). Emily s poetry is known for its emotional and intellectual energy. She expresses extremes of passion, love, despair, dread, and elation throughout her work. In her poem Color Caste Denomination, Emily comments on, in an indirect manner, the ridiculousness of racism and judgement.
