Essay on Langston Hughes and Jesse B. Simple
Lansgton Hughes and Jesse B. Semple
In the early 1940s an African American writer by the name of Langston Hughes, who flourished
during the Harlem Renaissance in New York, had established a character in his short story writings
named Jesse B. Semple. Through these short stories he used this character to represent the black man
of his times. However the question remains, is Jesse B. Semple an accurate representation of the black
man of 1940s? This question can best be answered by looking at the conditions of society during that
time period, what the mind set of the black man in that era and comparing it to the representation that
Hughes created with Jesse B. Semple.
Langston Hughes was born on February 1st, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The society in which Langston Hughes was projecting his work to was the era of the Harlem
Renaissance. However, even though the, Simple stories were created during the Harlem Renaissance
they held more importance during the 1940s. To best comprehend what the character, Jesse B. Semple
represented you must look at the society of that era and the point in time he was created. Hughes
began writing the, Simple stories in 1943. It started as a weekly column in the Negro Newspaper, the
Chicago Defender. During the 1940s the black man was still experiencing oppression and segregation
from the whites in America. The Civil Rights movement had not yet taken place so blacks were still
considered less then a citizen. Blacks in America could not vote yet nor could they eat in the same
restaurants as whites or even get a job other than a servant in a white business or establishment.
Therefore, with the type of climate that the society of the 1940s had, many of the black authors
coming out of the Harlem Renaissance, especially Hughes, were considered radicals.
During the 1940s there were many authors creating poems and stories to try and uplift the spirit of the
black community in New York. However, Langston Hughes felt inspired to write about a fictional
character, which in he attempted to represent all of the feelings of the black man without being blatant
or bold: Jesse B. Semple is certainly no romantic hero, protest victim or

St. Francois Mountains
A search for scholarly reviewed material involving the St. Francois Mountains and Butler Hill
formations returned a four notable sources. Gary Lowell and Alex Blaxland produced one article each
while J. Ronald Sides produced two articles on the subject. However, the University of Tennessee at
Martin has a limited journal selection and the available material is that of J. Ronald Sides articles.
Literature Review
Ronald describes the mountains as a shallow composite batholith located in southeastern Missouri
(1980). This batholith, or large igneous intrusion, is tilted to the southwest and beveled by erosion.
The complex is about one and a half billion years old and mostly comprised of silicic intrusive units
and rhyolitic pyroclastic rocks. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Francois batholith and probably helped control the structural development of the batholith itself. The
Butler Hill Pluton was originally thought to be two different units, however, Ronald points out that the
contact between the two is gradational so therefore he refers to it as one singular pluton referring to it
as the Butler Hill Granite. The granite is markedly more fine grained on the southwest side of the
pluton and exhibits quartz, orthoclase micropherthite, and minor albite, muscovite, chlorite, hematite,
and fluorite. Ronald notes that the overall texture is hypidiomorphic, partly idiomorphic or containing
some crystalline features, but locally porphyritic. To the northeast, the pluton consists major of quartz,
orthoclase, and plagioclase, with minor chlorite, biotite, hematite, fluorite, and amphibole. The overall
texture is hypidiomorphic granular with a larger grain size than that of the opposing side. The north
easternmost rocks have rapakivi texture, or plagioclase rims around orthoclase in a plutonic rock. The
size difference between the two sides is contributed to that of the cooling rate associated with the
volcanic activity and the entrapment caused by the roof.
Ronald sampled along three lines of traverse to compile data for chemical data. Samples were tested at
University of Kansas by X ray fluorescence and by flame spectrophotometric methods.

My Second Home Essay
My Second Home
The wind blowing in my hair, the water softly mists my face. There is a persistent humming in my ear
from the motor. I turn and gaze over the railing, there are islands scattered in the distance including
one, my final destination, the largest island in sight. The mysterious water curls against the edge of the
boat, foamy and disturbed by the passing boat. My fingers drum consistently on the railing, repeating
a rhythmic beat. I find myself pacing the deck, back and forth, always returning to the same location,
facing the island. As the ferry boat approaches the dock, I become overwhelmed with the anticipation
of the fun that, I know, is awaiting me on this island.
Kelly s Island is a place that brings back fond ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I begin weaving my way through the crowd; I can feel the warm skin of strangers brush against me.
As the crowds separate I see the welcoming faces of my Aunt Sharon and Uncle Bill. I run to give
them an embracing hug. My cousin, Levi, steps out from behind his dad and I notice his wide eyes
containing a sparkle as the excitement builds inside. My parents catch up with me and more greetings
are in order. We retreat to the golf cart, which most of the tourists use, along with bicycles, to get
around. After a short drive, we reach the house. It is a tall, white house with large windows facing the
water front. The character of this old house fills my imagination with stories of an old captain living
there. I am pleased to see the rest of my family playing croquet and socializing in the lawn. With the
awareness of our presence, they happily turn and wave.
After saying hello, my cousin and I decide to slip off to the personal beach of the bed and breakfast
that we will be staying at for the next four days. The wooden steps creak as we stomp down them.
They lead us into the special place hidden away in overgrown vines, which brush across me as I
charge toward the water. We spend hours in the cool water splashing, playing and catching up on all of
the excitement that we have missed in the last year. The cool water washes smoothly over my face and
I pinch the finely granulated sand between my toes. As I swim the seaweed reaches up from the
bottom to tickle my toes and feet.

What Is The Window In Act 2 Scene 7 Romeo And Juliet

However, the windows not only serve to escape, through them is also reached love: but, soft! What
light through yonder window breaks? . Shakespeare writes about the light that comes from inside, and
reveals Juliet. The window is also the opening to an interior landscape, to life. It shows us our
yearnings for protection, for home, for what we love most. But a few lines later, when Romeo must
leave, it is Julieta who reminds us that through the window also escapes life: Then, window, let day in
and let life out .
Also the phrase The eyes are the windows to the soul is commonly attributed

The Factors Affecting Breathing Rate And Lung Capacity
Recall the hypothesis of the factors affecting breathing rate and lung capacity was one s vital capacity
was affected by the surrounding. Since there was no primary information about breathing rate and
vital capacity of another subject, online resources would be used. From the internet source, an average
17 years old female s vital capacity was 3.1L, which surprisingly Jeannie had a higher vital capacity
rate. Therefore, the hypothesis was proven to be not so true. However, when Jeannie s breathing rate
compared to the average, it showed that Jeannie had a higher breathing rate, which showed that the
hypothesis was not completely wrong.
There were a bucket of factors that might be at play, for instance current health condition, medical
history, smoking habits, connections with second hand smokes, frequency of exercise, and living
environment, etc. all these were the factors contribute to a person s vital capacity. As it was mentioned
above, current health condition was a crucial part of the experiment at that moment, as the instant
result would be used to construct the lab report. Medical history was another concern, it was important
to learn more about the subject past medical history and predict the outcome of the experiment.
Smoking habits and second hand smokes were the important factors of the experiment as tar would
not be filtered and it would coat alveoli directly, affecting the breathing rate. The vital capacity of a
smoker and a non smoker could be distinguished

The Artist And The Work
Everything you can imagine is real. There are many visual artists, composers and writers we could
pass on the street and never recognize them. Yet we are still curious. There is something about
artmaking that draws us to it but it seems so foreign to our own lives. We want to know more about
these seemingly special people who can accomplish these unique things. We can t help but conflate
the two. The artist and the work. Well, to some extent, an artist s work is always about the artist. How
can it be otherwise, since they have no other source but themselves?
When we look or hear art, we only see and hear artist, because that is all we can see it s all we have to
work with. The problem with art is, because we love it so much, we put the artists who created it on
pedestals and we believe they cannot fail because, in some corner of our mind, we ve formed a
relationship with them and their product, and for us to discover them as imperfect shatters the illusion.
We have made a god in our mind where there is only a human, as flawed and imperfect as ourselves,
but what that piece of art they created gave us, in that moment in time, was pure love, joy and
satisfaction. The art didn t do anything wrong to you. The art shouldn t be punished. Say what you will
of the artist, but the product they produced and that you love shouldn t be demeaned if it made you
happy for one moment in time.
Can we separate the art from the artist? Only ethical answer is? No. Most people like Roman

The Liberation Of The Heart By Raymond Carver
Blindness does not merely limit itself to the eyes: it can plague the most profound depths of the heart
as well. When a man closes off one of the most vital veins to his heart, compassion, he too can find
himself lost in the bleak and somber tundra of mere existence. The liberation of the heart is a
liberation which some cannot easily attain. In many instances, the heart may require an influence or
spark that revives the compassion that is lacking. In Raymond Carver s Cathedral, the author takes this
notion of intervention and demonstrates it through the tale of a vulgar and callous man who seems to
lack even the slightest amount of compassion for anyone. The man appears to have no friends, no
direction in life, and he most certainly has no filter. These claims become apparent throughout the
beginning of the story and towards the middle when the man speaks of an expected visitor, Robert, his
wife s old friend who happens to be blind, and brutally launches his narrow minded prejudices
towards the old man. The story presents an ironic twist as the reader begins to realize that despite the
blind man s disability, he appears to have a far greater sense of vision than the narrator and is even
somewhat successful in kindling a newly found compassion within the heart of the narrator.
One would believe that a man with sight would find it less tasking to communicate and connect with
those around him than one without sight, but in this particular story the reader discovers that

Toothpaste Modern Toothpaste
Toothpaste is a paste or gel dentifrice used to clean and maintain the aesthetics and health of teeth.
Toothpaste use can promote good oral hygiene: it can aid in the removal of dental plaque and food
from the teeth, it can aid in the elimination and/or masking of halitosis, and it can deliver active
ingredients such as fluoride or xylitol to prevent tooth and gum disease (gingivitis). In most or all
developed countries, usage after each meal is encouraged. Most toothpaste contains chemicals which
are toxic when ingested, and is not intended to be swallowed.

Sodium fluoride (NaF) is the most common form; some brands use sodium monofluorophosphate
(Na2PO3F). Much of the toothpaste sold in the United States has 1000 to 1100 parts per million
fluoride ion from one of these active ingredients, in the UK the fluoride content is often higher, a NaF
of 0.32% w/w (1,450 ppm fluoride) is not uncommon. This consistency leads some to conclude that
cheap toothpaste is just as good as expensive toothpaste. When the magazine Consumer Reports rated
toothpastes in 1998, 30 of the 38 were judged excellent. Application of fluoride also prevents moisture
build up in some surfaces.[citation needed]
Other ingredients are less commonly used, including Hydroxyapatite nanocrystals and calcium
phosphate for remineralization,[6] and strontium chloride or potassium nitrate to reduce sensitivity.
[edit] Other ingredients
In addition to fluoride, the other fundamental ingredient in most toothpastes is an abrasive.[citation
needed] Studies have shown that abrasives in toothpaste reduce the time needed to remove plaque
from the teeth by approximately 50%. Abrasives, like the dental polishing agents used in dentist s
offices, also cause a small amount of enamel erosion which is termed polishing action. Some brands
contain powdered white mica which acts as a mild abrasive, and also adds a cosmetically pleasing
glittery shimmer to the paste. Many may contain frustules of dead

Change In The Things They Carried By Tim O Brien
Imagine a novel or a movie that is about war that has not even one change in a character s personality.
Change is really important in many novels and movies for instance in Batman VS Superman: Dawn of
Justice, the theme of change takes a huge role in the movie because by the end of the movie Batman
and Superman unite after being against each other or in George Orwell s allegory about the Russian
Revolution Animal Farm the theme of change takes a huge role also because in the beginning the pigs
order the animals in the farm to rebel against their bad farmer Mr. Jones and Humanity but by the end
the pigs became friends with the humans as if no rebellion happened. The of change is really
important for all the stories that are about fights or war. In The Things They Carried by Tim O Brien
the theme of change is one the most important themes and without it Tim O Brien will not make a
good point about war s effect on people and if a person wants to join a war he or ... Show more

If Tim O Brien does not change something in his characters he will not make a good point on war s

will not learn something from that chapter because that in the novel Tim O Brien was trying to send
the reader message about how war and a loved person death can change and effect people in a horrible
way. If a person fights in war he or she usually change in a negative way and in the novel Tim O Brien
mostly focuses on the negative change caused from war but he also talks about positive changes like
when he makes friends. The theme of change always takes a huge role in many novels, T.V shows and

My Educational Journey
My life decisions so far is based on my journey for best education. It has shaped my career path, my
choices and my home. Essentially, I can liken my education, to a metamorphosis process. My belief
on education is passed down from my parents, but we all share the same value of education; it is the
key to attaining a successful position in our career. So, whenever my education proved unsatisfactory,
we gambled our chances and moved schools every two years within Dubai. When we received a
chance to move to the U.S., my parents took the chance and moved here during my sophomore year.
The move accompanied many challenges like adapting to the new syllabus, foundation contexts of
each courses, and fitting in to new environments. However, none of these phased me negatively as I
have continued to survive and adapt with my peers, disregarding the disadvantages I had to face along
the changes introduced in my life. Now why did I bring metamorphosis into this? Because
metamorphosis is a sudden physical and cellular change that takes place in an animal. In my case, I
would compare myself to a butterfly who goes through these changes independently to strive for the
best education. The four steps of metamorphosis: egg, larvae, chrysalis and adult can be condensed
and applied to my life. For instance, every time I was laid in a new environment, I hatched and fed
myself the education, disregarding however challenging it was. As I grew older, education became
more perplexing and it was

Essay on The Consolation of Philosophy
In book III of The Consolation of Philosophy, Boethius establishes the fact that God is the world s
helmsman, the divine reason, the supreme good, the origin of all things. He demonstrates that God is
omnipotent and omniscient. Nothing more superior can even be conceived of. Through the concept of
unity, through which things basically become good, Boethius shows that God and happiness are one,
the divine goodness. He concludes, quot;God is the essence of happiness. quot; (70)
Book IV is the turning point in the theodicy, in the first chapter Boethius is truly puzzled by the
presence of evil in the world. quot; But the greatest cause of my sadness is really this the fact that in
spite of a good helmsman to guide the world, evil can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In regard to the wicked, quot;just as goodness is its own reward, so the punishment of the wicked is
their very wickedness. quot; (93 94) Therefore, the bad actually never escapes punishment, the same
way as the good never goes without reward. Boethius associates wicked people with animals, even
though they take on a physical appearance of a human, their state of mind becomes animal like.
Boethius claims that bad things do happen, and they happen to both good and bad people. However, in
both cases they occur in order to ultimately achieve a greater good. Is it just that people that are
otherwise virtuous, receive bad things? According to Boethius, the answer would be yes, it is just,
because the function of bad things is to make one stronger. quot; What does not kill me, makes me
stronger. quot; (_______) When bad things happen to righteous people, it is to teach them, to remind
them what good is (change) to make sure they remember the most important concepts in life. When
bad things happen to bad people it is to punish them. God governs bad things in order to bring about
good. That leads Boethius to question the fact that criminals often escape punishment, consequently
being rewarded for their wrongdoing.
To further explain the idea that vice is often rewarded is only an appearance, Philosophy begins
discussing punishment. She states that when criminals get punished, they receive something good.
Punishment is rehabilitation, it turns someone bad to see

The Role Of Religion And Sociological Perspective
The Role of Religion in Sociological Perspective Religion is a system of beliefs that many of us may
not understand in detail. However, the intention of this paper is to describe the role of religion in my
personal life, and to briefly explain the functionalist perspective, the symbolic interactionism
perspective, types of religious groups, and religion in the United States with the sole purpose to
understand religion concepts in a sociological perspective and my personal point of view. The role of
religion in my life does not exist, as I am not a religious person. I believe that it is not necessary to
follow a particular religion/denomination to practice morality and ethics during our life on earth. I do
apply, however (with my own interpretations) the wisdom of the Bible to my life, especially the Ten
Commandments. I do believe in one God and I do believe that human s purpose in life is to take care
of God s creation, to follow God s words, and to love and accept others no matter what background,
religion, status, race, or culture. I find the world and everything in it to work to perfection for me to
believe that we were created by mere coincidence and evolution (concepts that Atheist s faith may be
based on). Therefore, if I have to relate my worldview to a certain denomination, I would accept that
my views are closely related to Theism, which is the belief in the existence of one perfect, divine
being. In order to understand the concepts

The First Opium War And Its Effects On China
Throughout Chinese history, political and economic events have almost always led to drastic changes
in China itself. Many of these events have been internal struggles with China. Some events have been
external, such as the First Opium War. The First Opium war, which lasted from 1839 to 1842, led to
several economic and political changes in China. The Opium War is considered more that just a war,
the results created a deep impact on China and the Western World. For hundreds of years, China had
isolated themselves from the world and from foreign trade, but a single dispute over trading rights led
to a huge war, which dictated the future of China. The first Opium War was because of the trade
imbalance between England and China. This paper will discuss what caused the first Opium War and
its after effects on China.
China had long been aware of opium as a medicine, and its addictive qualities had also been known.
In 1723, its sale and consumption within China had been made illegal. With a rapid growth in
population, the demand for opium was high. The British were users of opium, and sold it across many
apothecary shops in London. They did not see opium addiction as a problem. British merchants
violated the Chinese opium ban and bribed Chinese officials to begin importing opium into the
country. The British had been illegally exporting opium mainly from India to China since the 18th
century, but the trade grew dramatically from about 1820. (Opium Wars, Kenneth Pletcher,

Design Of Zero Switching Losses For Three Phase Circuit...
Design of Zero Switching Losses for Three Phase Circuit Using Power Diode Shrinivas Reddy Dept.
of EEE,PDACEG, GULBARGA
Abstract
In this paper a zero voltage switched active network (Fig. 1) used in combination with three phase ac
to dc diode rectifiers is presented. It is shown that by using proposed switching network in three phase
ac to dc boost converter, zero switching losses are obtained while maintaining a unity input power
factor. Active network capacitor, Cs, diodes D7, and D8, maintain a zero voltage during turn off of Q1,
and Q2, Capacitor, Cs, discharges through the boost inductors of the circuit thus limiting the rate of
rise of current during turn on. Moreover, the advantage of the proposed active network is that it can
maintain a zero voltage switching over the entire range of the duty cycle of the operation.
Consequently, boost stage can be used directly to control the dc bus voltage by varying the duty cycle
at Constant switching frequency. The resulting advantages include higher switching frequencies, and
better efficiency. Finally the operation of the active switching network is verified experimentally on a
prototype three phase ac to dc converter.

In recent years, conversion of ac line

Plagiarism And The Consequences Of Plagiarism
In this paper we will cover plagiarism. We will cover a brief history of plagiarism and look at the
different types of plagiarism, as well as compare and contrast the different types. We will also look at
who is most prone to plagiarize and why. We will also discuss the role plagiarism plays in academia
and the consequences to plagiarizing. Webster s online Dictionary defines plagiarism as to steal and
pass off (the ideas or words of another) as one s own: use (another s production) without crediting the
source [... or] to commit literary theft: present as new and original an idea or product derived from an
existing source. Many people believe that plagiarism is a relatively new concept that came about as
technology became more and more accessible, however this is not the case. It is said that Shakespeare
s plays are not his own work. Shakespeare traveled to different regions and heard folk tales and stories
from the people that lived in these areas and wrote down what the people were saying and wrote it in
play form. He tweaked the stories so that they may be relatable to the English men and women that
would attend his plays. Even though Shakespeare s works are not his own, he is one of, if not the most
recognized playwright in the history of play writers. According to Turnitin.com there are 10 different
types of plagiarism. These 10 types of plagiarism are: clone, hybrid, ctrl c, mashup, find replace, 404

When Lombardi instituted the rule that players could not drink standing at a bar he was implementing
the effect of impression management. The book describes impression management as a set of
behaviors that people use to protect their self image or change the way they are seen by others. The
book also teaches us the two main goals of impression management which is to minimize bad and to
maximize good. Minimize bad by avoiding blame for poor performances or ask for forgiveness.
Maximizing good by generating respect and liking from other people. Although not all players were

Transformation In Oates s Where Is Here
Explanatory essay When I was 10 years old, I walked into a scary apartment with a cemetery in the
back with me brother and his friends. The wind was blowing so hard like someone was giving me a
sign not to go in but I did. When I went in the the apartment there was a sign that said beware in red
colors. My brother and his friends when into a room with burnt doll heads. Then, when we left the
room of the apartment a powerful wind blew in and we heard a door shut and glass break. At that
point, me my brother and his friends bolted out of the room, out of the apartment and into the car. The
next day me and my brother went to a religious area to not be scared anymore. My day transformed
good to scary in a matter of a snap. Transformation can create fear. Transformation can be seen in
these three stories as well. Oates s Where is Here, Arthur Tress Dream Collector and Julio Cortazar s

Dream Of The Rood Comparison
Dream of the Rood takes on a perspective that is unfamiliar for anyone with knowledge on the
crucifixion of Christ. The narrator emphasizes the loyalty of the cross to Christ and how beautiful it
looks because it is covered in gems. Using his vision as a means to connect to the reader, he takes us
through his dream in three parts. To effectively communicate with his audience, the narrator must
make us remember our experience with the crucifixion. Dream of the Rood can be compared with
Christian George Stevens The Greatest Story Ever Told (1965) because each is telling the story about
the crucifixion. Certain similarities are present throughout both works; however, they are shown in
different perspectives. Dream of the Rood takes a traditional ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In the Dream, the mention of Satan is not present, but in the film Stevens makes it a point to make
Satan a main character. Moreover, one of the main scenes is Satan speaking to the prophets and
planning against Christ, but the information is not factual. Consequently, this movie cannot be taken
seriously because it is too Hollywood and does not allow for the emotional connection that is seen in
Dream of the Rood. I trembled when he embraced me, but I dared not bow to the ground (43). In The
Greatest Story Ever Told, Jesus is neither as eloquent nor as effective as he should be. Go now, and
teach all nations. Make it your first care to love one another and to find the kingdom of God, and all
things shall be yours without me asking (scene 5). In the film, he is repetitive and the movie itself is
over four hours, making it monotone and unappealing to the general audience. The movie used
familiar characters and took a 21st century approach, which removed any historical aspect the film

What Home Mean To Me Research Paper
What does home mean to you? Is it a place? Is it a feeling? To me, home is neither a place, nor a
feeling, it is the people that surround you and care for you. These people can be your family or the
people that you trust and have grown close to. Since the day I was born, my family and I were always
moving from state to state. This is because both of my parents served in the United States Navy. To
give you an idea on how often I moved, before I had turned 12 years old, my family had moved seven
times throughout the Eastern half of the United States, close to the average amount of times that a
person moves in his lifetime which is recorded at 11.7 times (Chalabi). This being said, moving made

Make Your Dorm Room More Comfortable Your dorm room is the place you will most likely be
spending the majority of time during college. So, make it feel like home. In most colleges, the dorms
are bland and boring white walls. Because of this, you will like your new found home better if you
decorate it or add features to make it more appealing and more comfortable. In my dorm, my
roommate and I have put up pictures and a flag of the United States and a Don t Tread On Me Flag.
Also in my common room (A living room between my dorm room and two other dorm rooms) my
suite mates have gotten a fish tank and Christmas lights to add life to the room. However, the most
essential way to make your dorm room more comfortable and feel like home is to get along with your
roommate. In my case, my roommate and I went to the same high school and have known each other
for years and what the other does and does not care for. Here is a video showing ways to avoid
problems with your roommate. At summer orientation, administration gave the incoming students a tip
for when we were moving into our dorms. This tip was to make your bed first before you unpack.
Their reason for saying behind making your bed first is so that your dorm room will immediately feel

The head of engineering at Google is Dr Ray Kurzweill, he has predicted that the intellect of machines
will surpass human intellect by 2045 and believes that by this point machines will be capable of
everything that humans are only they will do it better.(Kurzweill,2005). More recently Kurzweill has
explained that his aim while working with google is to reverse engineer the human brain
(Kurzweill,2013). There are however many sceptics of Kurzweill s theories and proof of Kurzweils
singularity theories remains to be shown. (Regalado,2013)
What is machine learning
Machine learning is an area of A.I that involves the use of algorithms, statistical analysis and
programming in combination to allow a machine to learn from its experience. This is done in a
number of ways but all are essentially a computer program that can re program its self based on
external stimulus or experience. In machine learning the program is referred to as the agent.
The first example of machine learning was completed by Arthur Samuel. Samuels program learnt how
to play checkers by playing its self and went on to beat human players who would be considered
above average. His definition of machine learning was the field of study that gives computers the
ability to learn without being explicitly programmed (Muonz,nd)

Symbolism In Persepolis By Marjane Satrapi
Each author has their own special technique that they use in their work that makes their novel unique.
Symbolism is a common technique that is used by authors all over the world. It is an artistic style,
consisting of images and indirect thoughts to express a certain idea or emotion. Authors use
symbolism to add depth and meaning to a story. (Blogger p1) When a symbolic feature is put into a
story, the readers begin to think about the literal meaning and then compare it to the symbolic meaning
that could be interpreted from the text. Symbolism displayed throughout the novel Persepolis by
Marjane Satrapi portrays different views of the novel; historical, childlike views. The novel takes
place in Iran during the 1980 s which marked the beginning of political and religious confusion
throughout the country. Marjane Satrapi lives with a family who supports revolutionaries and attends
political protests where she obtains knowledge about the world and the social and political problems
that are occurring around her. Since she was introduced to these situations at such a young age, she
grew up as a strong and independent woman, wanting to make the world a better place. The author,
Marjane Satrapi tells the story and adds in the symbolic aspects to share her stories of her growing up
during one of the largest revolutions in Iran s history and to share her views, feelings and opinions
throughout that time period. The symbolic use of color throughout the novel, the veil the women

Comparison Of Bambi And The Lion King
The camera migrates into the forest passing various creatures with big, bulging, brown eyes. The
fluffy irresistible fur of the rabbits begs to be stroked. The rabbits skip away laughing leaving the
grass blowing in the cool breeze. Then, the camera travels to the right where an owl plays tag with a
speedy mouse under the blue sky. Finally, the technology races towards the sky revealing heart shaped
clouds. Peaceful scenes such as the one just described constantly appear in Disney films since Snow
White and the Seven Dwarfs. However, when depicting nature, should unrealistic imagines occupy the
screen? Consider a political film such as Bambi, when making such an enormous statement regarding
hunting, should the film illustrate nature accurately? How about more recent movies such as The Lion
King? Parents take their prized possessions, their children, to see these shows. Children absorb their
information and experiences around them like a sponge. In addition, Disney and other films to this day
are instrumental in a minor s childhood. Considering the impact of the films, one would predict that
two popular Disney films, Bambi and The Lion King, would portray nature factually. Nonetheless,
The Lion King and Bambi both depict nature accurately.

According to Weitz (1991), a large scale survey carried out in the U.S.A found problems facing an
individual who is HIV positive or diagnosed with AIDS face discrimination largely down to ignorance
from people who just simply do not understand how it can be spread or how the individual may have
contacted the disease in the first place. Johnstone p.126 (2001) points out that within the U.K there has
been a shift away from bigoted public attitudes but the stigma remains which is largely down to how
the media portray the illness. Legislation such as the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 was
introduced to eliminate discrimination towards disabled people in areas of employment, education,
accessing facilities, goods or services and the managing, buying or renting of land or property. Parts of
it became law in December 1996, and other parts have been introduced over time. For example, within
organisations and businesses it became unlawful for employers to treat disabled people less favorably
than other employees for a reason in relation to their disability. Reasonable adjustments have had to be
made for any person with a disability, such as making changes in service provision or providing extra
help since October 1999. Premises have also had to ensure any adaptations to allow access for

Deforestation Problems
Deforestation
Deforestation is a very big problem in our world, that not lot of people are worried about, it s that s
causing many issues in our environment and issues for lots of animals. Deforestation is when people
cut down trees to get wood for building and papermaking, and to burn firewood. They also clear land
for crops to grow and animals to graze. Many animal habitats are suffering because of us humans!
Keep reading to see how many problems deforestation is doing to our woods, jungles, and other places
on our planet earth. The most dramatic impact is a big loss of habitat for millions of species. Eighty
percent of Earth s land animals and plants live in forests, and many cannot survive the deforestation
that destroys their homes. Deforestation also drives climate change in many countries.
Deforestation is a big problem and a good thing at the same time, just mostly a problem. Animals do
loose habitats and their natural resources such as food, homes, and strategies to get pray because of
deforestation. Deforestation occurs in Nigeria,Indonesia , and Brazil, luckily not a lot of it happens in
the U.S.A. The only reasons why it is a good thing is because it makes paper, and furniture, and
people use it as firewood but that s no excuse to cut down many very innocent trees.
If deforestation keeps happening, which it probably will, where do tree frogs go without trees? What
about monkeys? Where do birds lay their nests? What about humans? What about many insects? What
about hunting strategies using trees? What about animals who need to feed on trees? I think you get
my point. Many habitats are affected, the list goes on and on. One tree gives carbon dioxide for four
people in just one day. Thats a lot! Can you imagine losing lots of trees? If one tree supplies oxygen
for four people, why are we still cutting down many trees? Isn t there enough reasons why we shouldn
t cut down trees? If we keep letting all these people do this, can you imagine

Star Wars Hero s Journey Analysis
In 1977 an amazing, adventure filled, science fiction film was released by director George Lucas,
starting one to many obsessions called Star Wars. It was the first of many episodes to come, they
named it Episode 4 A New Hope. In the beginning it shows the Rebel forces being attacked by the
Empire on a spaceship to receive plans that the Rebels have came up with. A princess whose name is
Leia was in a hurry to make sure they do not take the plans so she puts them, and a recording of her
explaining what they are, in a little robot names R2D2; she then puts him and his robot friend C3PO

There are ten steps of the journey, and they are all very important to shaping the hero, the steps are:
conscious realm, unconscious realm, the call, departure, threshold, task tribulator trial, transformation
of consciousness, ritual, and return. The first step is in the conscious realm, which is presented by
Luke being on his home planet or land. It will transfer over to the unconscious realm as the second
step ,when Luke and his friends leave land on a spaceship and starts traveling in space to the Death
Star. Next is the calls, usually there is just one but in Star Wars there is a mini call and a major call.
The mini call is Luke cleaning up R2D2 and find the plans that Leia sent to go to Obiwon. Luke thinks
she is beautiful and she is a princess so he wants to do something that can help save her. The major
call is after Obi Wan, or Ben, saved Luke the plans is presented to him, Obi Wan wants Luke to help
him save the princess, Luke declines his offer because he can t leave his Aunt and Uncle. After the call
is the departure which is Luke, Ben, Han Solo, Chewbacca, C3PO and R2D2 trying to leave the planet
in a hurry on a spaceship but the storm troopers is trying to prevent them from leaving because they
want R2D2. Eventually, they beat them and was able to leave and enter into space somewhat safely,
getting past the threshold. The tasks are saving Leighia, getting away and out if the Death Star,
escaping the Empires spaceships; which he did very heroically. The tribulator is his mentor, Obi Wan,
dying and with him losing so many people in few days it helps the trial come very easily. Now the trial
is Luke becoming a fighter pilot for the Rebel forces to destroy the Death Star. Now the most
important part is the transformation of consciousness, because it is usually at the climax and the
changing point of the hero. The representation of this is when Luke stops using

The Expectation Management Of A Parcel Delivery Company
Introduction
This paper will look into the Expectation Management of a parcel delivery company and how to
properly reduce the level of service in order to redefine the company s business model. It will look at
the promises the company makes and if they are realistic and how they will follow through, the
choices it offers it customers and if the too are realistic or sustainable. The intent is to create a tiered
value offering based on the customers communicated service criteria. Based on what a company learns
from the communication of what the customer expects, the company should be able to define its
customer service business model.

In order to make a realistic promise the company must know what the customer expects and its
limitations with providing that level of service or if that is unrealistic request. The company must
communicate with the customer on what their expectations are, so that the company could then
evaluate if that is a feasible feat for the company to achieve, or if the expectations of the customer are
unrealistic. The higher the level of expectation the customer brings, will determine their personal
evaluation of service (Zeithaml, Bitner, Gremler, 2013, p 429); and the higher level of service quality
they expect to received. In order for the customer to believe they received high quality of service their
expectations must be met. In pursuance of fulfilling the customer expectation of service received the
customer must be afforded options or choices related to the service received.
Offer Choices Offering choices to customers, gives the customer more belief that they have control of
the level of service they will receive, and that, that level of service will be met. With a parcel shipping
company, the higher the price the more the customer will expects to have their level of service
achieved. In marketing, customers relate time/money and speed/quality; if a customer perceives that
they are paying more for time or quality they

The Princess Bride Life Lessons
How does it feel that a fantasy novel called The Princess Bride is quite educational and full of life
lessons? The book The Princess Bride by William Goldman is somewhat realistic fiction where
characters make irrational decisions. It s a wild storyline with kings, princesses, pirates, along with
giants, wizards, and resurrection. Nifty Lance is an online blogger who came up with a few life
lessons The Princess Bride may have taught its readers. The Princess Bride teaches its readers certain
lessons like; just because something seems impossible doesn t mean it s not possible, make the
opponent feel good, just because nobody has done it, doesn t mean you can t, and knowing when to
put the team first opposed to yourself first. One lesson portrayed in The Princess Bride is just because
nobody has done it, doesn t mean you can t. This lesson is saying someone always has to be the first to
do something (Lance). In the book, this lesson can be seen when Fezzik scaled the Cliffs of Insanity.

In this life lesson it is describing how sometimes you have to put the team as a priority rather than
being selfish. This lesson is portrayed in Goldman s novel when Inigo wants to find Count Rugen, but
has to storm the castle, so Westley can find Buttercup. Which leaves us probably now something over
half an hour to get in, steal the girl, but not before I kill Count Rugen (Goldman 330). A quote like this
showcases both sides of the lesson in a way, since Inigo wants to kill Count Rugen himself, but Inigo
knows he has to help steal and rescue Buttercup. Somewhere this lesson rings true in real life would

The Origin Of Paul Ree By Nietzche
In the preface, Nietzsche explains that the conception of this book was born out of his reading of
friend Paul Ree s Origin of Moral feelings. A book with which Nietzsche found himself at odds with
the assertions of Ree. Nietzsche interpreted Ree s work as denying the universality in the principles of
right and wrong. Moreover, Nietzsche saw concurrence with Ree s assertions that different societies
moral valuations might be defined by that society s cultural needs and conditions. Nietzsche was also
interested in Ree s explanation of the origins of responsibility, morality, punishment, and remorse.
Against this understanding of Ree s work, Nietzsche penned three essays which make up the work
known as The Genealogy of Morals. These essays are considered some of the more clear and
comprehensive writings of Nietzsche. Their intent appears to be a continuation in the critique of
Christian morality first established in Beyond Good and Evil. The commonly read first essay sees
Nietzsche present an opposition between the master morality and that of the slave . By tracing the
etymological grounds of the German words schlect ( bad ), gut (good), and bose (evil), Nietzsche
forwards the proposition that a distinction between good and bad was born from ... Show more content

Of the three essays, this is probably the one most true to Nietzsche s style of presenting arguments in a
non conforming format. The important part for me of this essay is in Nietzsche s ability to see both
sides of the problem. While critiquing mainly the asceticism of religion, he also presents the opposite
extreme of the problems with science. While Nietzsche does not necessarily reject the ideals of
ascetics, he does highlight the thought that morality and culture are artifacts of mankind. Hence, even
the metaphysical conceptions of right, wrong, and soul are at their core human made conceptions that
must be questioned; not

Persuasive Essay On Banning Campus Violence
Banning Campus Violence The results of the illegal actions performed by the campus members lead to
the increasing number of victims of the violence at campus. The paper investigates the necessity to
elaborate the necessary measures and methods to stimulate the process of reducing and further
banning of the violence on campus. The essence of this approach is on the reasons, which should
motivate the education institutions management to reduce the number of cases of violence on campus.
Therefore, the essential measure to ban the campus violence is the establishment of the legal
framework and controlling procedure over the students members of the campuses as the cases of the
violent actions have recently become frequent enough and lead to the negative consequences for the
students health and life. However, not all the scholars have a conviction that there is a need to fight for
the ban of violence on campuses. The audience of this paper can be diverse: from the students to the
employees of the educational institutions. The paper s structure applies the appeals of ethos, pathos,
and logos to make the reader s perception of the problem more serious and profound. The paper
comprises the statistics of the violent actions on campus which serve as a consequence of alcohol and
drug abuse by the students as well as the results of the lack of the gun control. Hence, the research
given represents a set of reasons, arguments, and counterarguments in terms of the campus violence

Roe V. Wade And Its Impact On American Society

Final Project
Roe v. Wade and Its Impact on American Society Few Supreme Court decisions have stirred up as
much controversy, vitriolic debate, and even violence as the one delivered in Roe v. Wade in 1973.
Four decades later, it remains a touchstone for the culture wars in the United States and a pivot upon
which much of American politics turns. In fact, the authors of Roe v. Wade: The Abortion Rights
Controversy in American History state that even today, the case (and its companion cases) remains the
most divisive and controversial judicial decision of the twentieth century (3). Although it is a
landmark case in itself, its continuing influence on American law and politics proves that its legacy
lives on far beyond its formal resolution in a court of law. Essentially, the most important points are
that the cause of the case s complexity and drama is the legal relationship between men and women
that the ruling mirrored and compounded, the way the medical profession was impacted, and the
political significance that the issue still holds presently. One cannot understand what Roe v. Wade
meant to women or to men without understanding how abortion became illegal, and that story begins
in the nineteenth century. In 1821, Connecticut became the first state to explicitly criminalize abortion.
The primary purpose of this law was to spell out the conditions under which the state could prosecute
an abortionist for an abortion. The

  • 2. Essay on Langston Hughes and Jesse B. Simple Lansgton Hughes and Jesse B. Semple In the early 1940s an African American writer by the name of Langston Hughes, who flourished during the Harlem Renaissance in New York, had established a character in his short story writings named Jesse B. Semple. Through these short stories he used this character to represent the black man of his times. However the question remains, is Jesse B. Semple an accurate representation of the black man of 1940s? This question can best be answered by looking at the conditions of society during that time period, what the mind set of the black man in that era and comparing it to the representation that Hughes created with Jesse B. Semple. Langston Hughes was born on February 1st, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The society in which Langston Hughes was projecting his work to was the era of the Harlem Renaissance. However, even though the, Simple stories were created during the Harlem Renaissance they held more importance during the 1940s. To best comprehend what the character, Jesse B. Semple represented you must look at the society of that era and the point in time he was created. Hughes began writing the, Simple stories in 1943. It started as a weekly column in the Negro Newspaper, the Chicago Defender. During the 1940s the black man was still experiencing oppression and segregation from the whites in America. The Civil Rights movement had not yet taken place so blacks were still considered less then a citizen. Blacks in America could not vote yet nor could they eat in the same restaurants as whites or even get a job other than a servant in a white business or establishment. Therefore, with the type of climate that the society of the 1940s had, many of the black authors coming out of the Harlem Renaissance, especially Hughes, were considered radicals. During the 1940s there were many authors creating poems and stories to try and uplift the spirit of the black community in New York. However, Langston Hughes felt inspired to write about a fictional character, which in he attempted to represent all of the feelings of the black man without being blatant or bold: Jesse B. • 3. St. Francois Mountains A search for scholarly reviewed material involving the St. Francois Mountains and Butler Hill formations returned a four notable sources. Gary Lowell and Alex Blaxland produced one article each while J. Ronald Sides produced two articles on the subject. However, the University of Tennessee at Martin has a limited journal selection and the available material is that of J. Ronald Sides articles. Literature Review Ronald describes the mountains as a shallow composite batholith located in southeastern Missouri (1980). This batholith, or large igneous intrusion, is tilted to the southwest and beveled by erosion. The complex is about one and a half billion years old and mostly comprised of silicic intrusive units and rhyolitic pyroclastic rocks. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Francois batholith and probably helped control the structural development of the batholith itself. The Butler Hill Pluton was originally thought to be two different units, however, Ronald points out that the contact between the two is gradational so therefore he refers to it as one singular pluton referring to it as the Butler Hill Granite. The granite is markedly more fine grained on the southwest side of the pluton and exhibits quartz, orthoclase micropherthite, and minor albite, muscovite, chlorite, hematite, and fluorite. Ronald notes that the overall texture is hypidiomorphic, partly idiomorphic or containing some crystalline features, but locally porphyritic. To the northeast, the pluton consists major of quartz, orthoclase, and plagioclase, with minor chlorite, biotite, hematite, fluorite, and amphibole. The overall texture is hypidiomorphic granular with a larger grain size than that of the opposing side. The north easternmost rocks have rapakivi texture, or plagioclase rims around orthoclase in a plutonic rock. The size difference between the two sides is contributed to that of the cooling rate associated with the volcanic activity and the entrapment caused by the roof. Ronald sampled along three lines of traverse to compile data for chemical data. Samples were tested at University of Kansas by X ray fluorescence and by flame spectrophotometric methods. ... • 4. My Second Home Essay My Second Home The wind blowing in my hair, the water softly mists my face. There is a persistent humming in my ear from the motor. I turn and gaze over the railing, there are islands scattered in the distance including one, my final destination, the largest island in sight. The mysterious water curls against the edge of the boat, foamy and disturbed by the passing boat. My fingers drum consistently on the railing, repeating a rhythmic beat. I find myself pacing the deck, back and forth, always returning to the same location, facing the island. As the ferry boat approaches the dock, I become overwhelmed with the anticipation of the fun that, I know, is awaiting me on this island. I run to give them an embracing hug. My cousin, Levi, steps out from behind his dad and I notice his wide eyes containing a sparkle as the excitement builds inside. My parents catch up with me and more greetings are in order. We retreat to the golf cart, which most of the tourists use, along with bicycles, to get around. After a short drive, we reach the house. It is a tall, white house with large windows facing the water front. The character of this old house fills my imagination with stories of an old captain living there. I am pleased to see the rest of my family playing croquet and socializing in the lawn. With the awareness of our presence, they happily turn and wave. After saying hello, my cousin and I decide to slip off to the personal beach of the bed and breakfast that we will be staying at for the next four days. The wooden steps creak as we stomp down them. They lead us into the special place hidden away in overgrown vines, which brush across me as I charge toward the water. We spend hours in the cool water splashing, playing and catching up on all of the excitement that we have missed in the last year. The cool water washes smoothly over my face and I pinch the finely granulated sand between my toes. As I swim the seaweed reaches up from the bottom to tickle my toes and feet. ... However, the windows not only serve to escape, through them is also reached love: but, soft! What light through yonder window breaks? . Shakespeare writes about the light that comes from inside, and reveals Juliet. The window is also the opening to an interior landscape, to life. It shows us our yearnings for protection, for home, for what we love most. But a few lines later, when Romeo must leave, it is Julieta who reminds us that through the window also escapes life: Then, window, let day in and let life out . • 6. The Factors Affecting Breathing Rate And Lung Capacity Recall the hypothesis of the factors affecting breathing rate and lung capacity was one s vital capacity was affected by the surrounding. Since there was no primary information about breathing rate and vital capacity of another subject, online resources would be used. From the internet source, an average 17 years old female s vital capacity was 3.1L, which surprisingly Jeannie had a higher vital capacity rate. Therefore, the hypothesis was proven to be not so true. However, when Jeannie s breathing rate compared to the average, it showed that Jeannie had a higher breathing rate, which showed that the hypothesis was not completely wrong. There were a bucket of factors that might be at play, for instance current health condition, medical history, smoking habits, connections with second hand smokes, frequency of exercise, and living environment, etc. all these were the factors contribute to a person s vital capacity. As it was mentioned above, current health condition was a crucial part of the experiment at that moment, as the instant result would be used to construct the lab report. Medical history was another concern, it was important to learn more about the subject past medical history and predict the outcome of the experiment. Smoking habits and second hand smokes were the important factors of the experiment as tar would not be filtered and it would coat alveoli directly, affecting the breathing rate. • 7. The Artist And The Work Everything you can imagine is real. There are many visual artists, composers and writers we could pass on the street and never recognize them. Yet we are still curious. There is something about artmaking that draws us to it but it seems so foreign to our own lives. We want to know more about these seemingly special people who can accomplish these unique things. We can t help but conflate the two. The artist and the work. Well, to some extent, an artist s work is always about the artist. How can it be otherwise, since they have no other source but themselves? When we look or hear art, we only see and hear artist, because that is all we can see it s all we have to work with. The problem with art is, because we love it so much, we put the artists who created it on pedestals and we believe they cannot fail because, in some corner of our mind, we ve formed a relationship with them and their product, and for us to discover them as imperfect shatters the illusion. We have made a god in our mind where there is only a human, as flawed and imperfect as ourselves, but what that piece of art they created gave us, in that moment in time, was pure love, joy and satisfaction. The art didn t do anything wrong to you. The art shouldn t be punished. Say what you will of the artist, but the product they produced and that you love shouldn t be demeaned if it made you happy for one moment in time. Can we separate the art from the artist? Only ethical answer is? No. Most people like Roman ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. The Liberation Of The Heart By Raymond Carver Blindness does not merely limit itself to the eyes: it can plague the most profound depths of the heart as well. When a man closes off one of the most vital veins to his heart, compassion, he too can find himself lost in the bleak and somber tundra of mere existence. The liberation of the heart is a liberation which some cannot easily attain. In many instances, the heart may require an influence or spark that revives the compassion that is lacking. In Raymond Carver s Cathedral, the author takes this notion of intervention and demonstrates it through the tale of a vulgar and callous man who seems to lack even the slightest amount of compassion for anyone. The man appears to have no friends, no direction in life, and he most certainly has no filter. These claims become apparent throughout the beginning of the story and towards the middle when the man speaks of an expected visitor, Robert, his wife s old friend who happens to be blind, and brutally launches his narrow minded prejudices towards the old man. The story presents an ironic twist as the reader begins to realize that despite the blind man s disability, he appears to have a far greater sense of vision than the narrator and is even somewhat successful in kindling a newly found compassion within the heart of the narrator. One would believe that a man with sight would find it less tasking to communicate and connect with those around him than one without sight, but in this particular story the reader discovers that ... • 9. Toothpaste Modern Toothpaste Toothpaste is a paste or gel dentifrice used to clean and maintain the aesthetics and health of teeth. Toothpaste use can promote good oral hygiene: it can aid in the removal of dental plaque and food from the teeth, it can aid in the elimination and/or masking of halitosis, and it can deliver active ingredients such as fluoride or xylitol to prevent tooth and gum disease (gingivitis). In most or all developed countries, usage after each meal is encouraged. Most toothpaste contains chemicals which are toxic when ingested, and is not intended to be swallowed. Sodium fluoride (NaF) is the most common form; some brands use sodium monofluorophosphate (Na2PO3F). Much of the toothpaste sold in the United States has 1000 to 1100 parts per million fluoride ion from one of these active ingredients, in the UK the fluoride content is often higher, a NaF of 0.32% w/w (1,450 ppm fluoride) is not uncommon. This consistency leads some to conclude that cheap toothpaste is just as good as expensive toothpaste. When the magazine Consumer Reports rated toothpastes in 1998, 30 of the 38 were judged excellent. Application of fluoride also prevents moisture build up in some surfaces.[citation needed] Other ingredients are less commonly used, including Hydroxyapatite nanocrystals and calcium phosphate for remineralization,[6] and strontium chloride or potassium nitrate to reduce sensitivity. [edit] Other ingredients In addition to fluoride, the other fundamental ingredient in most toothpastes is an abrasive.[citation needed] Studies have shown that abrasives in toothpaste reduce the time needed to remove plaque from the teeth by approximately 50%. Abrasives, like the dental polishing agents used in dentist s offices, also cause a small amount of enamel erosion which is termed polishing action. Some brands contain powdered white mica which acts as a mild abrasive, and also adds a cosmetically pleasing glittery shimmer to the paste. Many may contain frustules of dead ... Essentially, I can liken my education, to a metamorphosis process. My belief on education is passed down from my parents, but we all share the same value of education; it is the key to attaining a successful position in our career. So, whenever my education proved unsatisfactory, we gambled our chances and moved schools every two years within Dubai. When we received a chance to move to the U.S., my parents took the chance and moved here during my sophomore year. The move accompanied many challenges like adapting to the new syllabus, foundation contexts of each courses, and fitting in to new environments. However, none of these phased me negatively as I have continued to survive and adapt with my peers, disregarding the disadvantages I had to face along the changes introduced in my life. Now why did I bring metamorphosis into this? Because metamorphosis is a sudden physical and cellular change that takes place in an animal. In my case, I would compare myself to a butterfly who goes through these changes independently to strive for the best education. The four steps of metamorphosis: egg, larvae, chrysalis and adult can be condensed and applied to my life. For instance, every time I was laid in a new environment, I hatched and fed myself the education, disregarding however challenging it was. Boethius associates wicked people with animals, even though they take on a physical appearance of a human, their state of mind becomes animal like. Boethius claims that bad things do happen, and they happen to both good and bad people. However, in both cases they occur in order to ultimately achieve a greater good. Is it just that people that are otherwise virtuous, receive bad things? According to Boethius, the answer would be yes, it is just, because the function of bad things is to make one stronger. quot; What does not kill me, makes me stronger. quot; (_______) When bad things happen to righteous people, it is to teach them, to remind them what good is (change) to make sure they remember the most important concepts in life. When bad things happen to bad people it is to punish them. God governs bad things in order to bring about good. That leads Boethius to question the fact that criminals often escape punishment, consequently being rewarded for their wrongdoing. However, the intention of this paper is to describe the role of religion in my personal life, and to briefly explain the functionalist perspective, the symbolic interactionism perspective, types of religious groups, and religion in the United States with the sole purpose to understand religion concepts in a sociological perspective and my personal point of view. The role of religion in my life does not exist, as I am not a religious person. I believe that it is not necessary to follow a particular religion/denomination to practice morality and ethics during our life on earth. I do apply, however (with my own interpretations) the wisdom of the Bible to my life, especially the Ten Commandments. I do believe in one God and I do believe that human s purpose in life is to take care of God s creation, to follow God s words, and to love and accept others no matter what background, religion, status, race, or culture. I find the world and everything in it to work to perfection for me to believe that we were created by mere coincidence and evolution (concepts that Atheist s faith may be based on). • 19. The First Opium War And Its Effects On China Throughout Chinese history, political and economic events have almost always led to drastic changes in China itself. Many of these events have been internal struggles with China. Some events have been external, such as the First Opium War. The First Opium war, which lasted from 1839 to 1842, led to several economic and political changes in China. The Opium War is considered more that just a war, the results created a deep impact on China and the Western World. For hundreds of years, China had isolated themselves from the world and from foreign trade, but a single dispute over trading rights led to a huge war, which dictated the future of China. The first Opium War was because of the trade imbalance between England and China. This paper will discuss what caused the first Opium War and its after effects on China. China had long been aware of opium as a medicine, and its addictive qualities had also been known. In 1723, its sale and consumption within China had been made illegal. With a rapid growth in population, the demand for opium was high. The British were users of opium, and sold it across many apothecary shops in London. They did not see opium addiction as a problem. British merchants violated the Chinese opium ban and bribed Chinese officials to begin importing opium into the country. The British had been illegally exporting opium mainly from India to China since the 18th century, but the trade grew dramatically from about 1820. (Opium Wars, Kenneth Pletcher, ... • 20. Design Of Zero Switching Losses For Three Phase Circuit... Design of Zero Switching Losses for Three Phase Circuit Using Power Diode Shrinivas Reddy Dept. of EEE,PDACEG, GULBARGA Abstract In this paper a zero voltage switched active network (Fig. 1) used in combination with three phase ac to dc diode rectifiers is presented. It is shown that by using proposed switching network in three phase ac to dc boost converter, zero switching losses are obtained while maintaining a unity input power factor. Active network capacitor, Cs, diodes D7, and D8, maintain a zero voltage during turn off of Q1, and Q2, Capacitor, Cs, discharges through the boost inductors of the circuit thus limiting the rate of rise of current during turn on. Moreover, the advantage of the proposed active network is that it can maintain a zero voltage switching over the entire range of the duty cycle of the operation. Consequently, boost stage can be used directly to control the dc bus voltage by varying the duty cycle at Constant switching frequency. The resulting advantages include higher switching frequencies, and better efficiency. Finally the operation of the active switching network is verified experimentally on a prototype three phase ac to dc converter. 1. Introduction In recent years, conversion of ac line ... We will also look at who is most prone to plagiarize and why. We will also discuss the role plagiarism plays in academia and the consequences to plagiarizing. Webster s online Dictionary defines plagiarism as to steal and pass off (the ideas or words of another) as one s own: use (another s production) without crediting the source [... or] to commit literary theft: present as new and original an idea or product derived from an existing source. Many people believe that plagiarism is a relatively new concept that came about as technology became more and more accessible, however this is not the case. It is said that Shakespeare s plays are not his own work. Shakespeare traveled to different regions and heard folk tales and stories from the people that lived in these areas and wrote down what the people were saying and wrote it in play form. He tweaked the stories so that they may be relatable to the English men and women that would attend his plays. Even though Shakespeare s works are not his own, he is one of, if not the most recognized playwright in the history of play writers. Then, the camera travels to the right where an owl plays tag with a speedy mouse under the blue sky. Finally, the technology races towards the sky revealing heart shaped clouds. Peaceful scenes such as the one just described constantly appear in Disney films since Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. However, when depicting nature, should unrealistic imagines occupy the screen? Consider a political film such as Bambi, when making such an enormous statement regarding hunting, should the film illustrate nature accurately? How about more recent movies such as The Lion King? Parents take their prized possessions, their children, to see these shows. Children absorb their information and experiences around them like a sponge. In addition, Disney and other films to this day are instrumental in a minor s childhood. Nonetheless, The Lion King and Bambi both depict nature accurately. Anthropomorphism. The attribution of human characteristics or behavior to an animal. • 32. Gregory And Despereaux Relationship Essay The relationship between Gregory and Despereaux does influence the story. It keeps Despereaux alive when we all want so badly for him to live. It is a positive relationship but I don t know if I would exactly call them friends, because if Despereaux had not wanted to tell a story, or had he not had a story to tell, Gregory would not have saved him. Gregory saved Despereaux but the way he did it seems a little selfish. As long as our mouse lives though, it doesn t matter how he is saved. Book two, Chiaroscuro. We go back a little bit and we meet Roscuro. Roscuro is a rat. Rats are afraid of light. But when Gregory lit a match in Roscuros face he did not react the way other rats did. Mig now lived with the man who she was traded to, and she called him uncle as she was told to do. Whenever Mig would do something wrong he would give her a clout to the either her right or left ear. Eventually after getting so many clouts it became hard for Mig to hear. When she turned seven she was out tending to the sheep and saw the royal family pass by and this gave her hope, as well as made her hope that one day she too would be a bright and beautiful princess. Mig told her uncle about this but he did not care, no one had ever cared what she wanted. A little while later a soldier came to Migs uncles farm to claim everything and anything that had to do with soup. While Migs uncle was going off about this he let it slip that he owned Mig. Since owning another person was against the law the soldier took her with him back to the castle. Mig was now to be a paid servant and not a slave. According to Weitz (1991), a large scale survey carried out in the U.S.A found problems facing an individual who is HIV positive or diagnosed with AIDS face discrimination largely down to ignorance from people who just simply do not understand how it can be spread or how the individual may have contacted the disease in the first place. Johnstone p.126 (2001) points out that within the U.K there has been a shift away from bigoted public attitudes but the stigma remains which is largely down to how the media portray the illness. Legislation such as the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 was introduced to eliminate discrimination towards disabled people in areas of employment, education, accessing facilities, goods or services and the managing, buying or renting of land or property. Parts of it became law in December 1996, and other parts have been introduced over time. For example, within organisations and businesses it became unlawful for employers to treat disabled people less favorably than other employees for a reason in relation to their disability. Reasonable adjustments have had to be made for any person with a disability, such as making changes in service provision or providing extra help since October 1999. Premises have also had to ensure any adaptations to allow access for disabled people were implemented ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Deforestation Problems Deforestation Deforestation is a very big problem in our world, that not lot of people are worried about, it s that s causing many issues in our environment and issues for lots of animals. Deforestation is when people cut down trees to get wood for building and papermaking, and to burn firewood. They also clear land for crops to grow and animals to graze. Many animal habitats are suffering because of us humans! Keep reading to see how many problems deforestation is doing to our woods, jungles, and other places on our planet earth. The most dramatic impact is a big loss of habitat for millions of species. Eighty percent of Earth s land animals and plants live in forests, and many cannot survive the deforestation that destroys their homes. Deforestation also drives climate change in many countries. Deforestation is a big problem and a good thing at the same time, just mostly a problem. Animals do loose habitats and their natural resources such as food, homes, and strategies to get pray because of deforestation. Deforestation occurs in Nigeria,Indonesia , and Brazil, luckily not a lot of it happens in the U.S.A. The only reasons why it is a good thing is because it makes paper, and furniture, and people use it as firewood but that s no excuse to cut down many very innocent trees. If deforestation keeps happening, which it probably will, where do tree frogs go without trees? What about monkeys? Where do birds lay their nests? What about humans? What about many insects? What about hunting strategies using trees? What about animals who need to feed on trees? I think you get my point. Many habitats are affected, the list goes on and on. One tree gives carbon dioxide for four people in just one day. Thats a lot! Can you imagine losing lots of trees? If one tree supplies oxygen for four people, why are we still cutting down many trees? Isn t there enough reasons why we shouldn t cut down trees? If we keep letting all these people do this, can you imagine Deforestation Deforestation is a very big problem in our world, that not lot of people are worried about, it s that s causing many issues in our environment and issues for lots of animals. It was the first of many episodes to come, they named it Episode 4 A New Hope. In the beginning it shows the Rebel forces being attacked by the Empire on a spaceship to receive plans that the Rebels have came up with. A princess whose name is Leia was in a hurry to make sure they do not take the plans so she puts them, and a recording of her explaining what they are, in a little robot names R2D2; she then puts him and his robot friend C3PO on an escape pod and blasts them out of the spaceship which gets notified to Darth Vader, the one leading the Empire s attack, but he thinks nothing of it because ... There are ten steps of the journey, and they are all very important to shaping the hero, the steps are: conscious realm, unconscious realm, the call, departure, threshold, task tribulator trial, transformation of consciousness, ritual, and return. The first step is in the conscious realm, which is presented by Luke being on his home planet or land. It will transfer over to the unconscious realm as the second step ,when Luke and his friends leave land on a spaceship and starts traveling in space to the Death Star. Next is the calls, usually there is just one but in Star Wars there is a mini call and a major call. The mini call is Luke cleaning up R2D2 and find the plans that Leia sent to go to Obiwon. Luke thinks she is beautiful and she is a princess so he wants to do something that can help save her. The major call is after Obi Wan, or Ben, saved Luke the plans is presented to him, Obi Wan wants Luke to help him save the princess, Luke declines his offer because he can t leave his Aunt and Uncle. After the call is the departure which is Luke, Ben, Han Solo, Chewbacca, C3PO and R2D2 trying to leave the planet in a hurry on a spaceship but the storm troopers is trying to prevent them from leaving because they want R2D2. The tasks are saving Leighia, getting away and out if the Death Star, escaping the Empires spaceships; which he did very heroically. The tribulator is his mentor, Obi Wan, dying and with him losing so many people in few days it helps the trial come very easily. Now the trial is Luke becoming a fighter pilot for the Rebel forces to destroy the Death Star. Now the most important part is the transformation of consciousness, because it is usually at the climax and the changing point of the hero. The representation of this is when Luke stops using ... It will look at the promises the company makes and if they are realistic and how they will follow through, the choices it offers it customers and if the too are realistic or sustainable. The intent is to create a tiered value offering based on the customers communicated service criteria. Based on what a company learns from the communication of what the customer expects, the company should be able to define its customer service business model. In order to make a realistic promise the company must know what the customer expects and its limitations with providing that level of service or if that is unrealistic request. The company must communicate with the customer on what their expectations are, so that the company could then evaluate if that is a feasible feat for the company to achieve, or if the expectations of the customer are unrealistic. The higher the level of expectation the customer brings, will determine their personal evaluation of service (Zeithaml, Bitner, Gremler, 2013, p 429); and the higher level of service quality they expect to received. In order for the customer to believe they received high quality of service their expectations must be met. • 37. The Princess Bride Life Lessons How does it feel that a fantasy novel called The Princess Bride is quite educational and full of life lessons? The book The Princess Bride by William Goldman is somewhat realistic fiction where characters make irrational decisions. It s a wild storyline with kings, princesses, pirates, along with giants, wizards, and resurrection. Nifty Lance is an online blogger who came up with a few life lessons The Princess Bride may have taught its readers. The Princess Bride teaches its readers certain lessons like; just because something seems impossible doesn t mean it s not possible, make the opponent feel good, just because nobody has done it, doesn t mean you can t, and knowing when to put the team first opposed to yourself first. One lesson portrayed in The Princess Bride is just because nobody has done it, doesn t mean you can t. This lesson is saying someone always has to be the first to do something (Lance). In the book, this lesson can be seen when Fezzik scaled the Cliffs of Insanity. With that the Turk ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Which leaves us probably now something over half an hour to get in, steal the girl, but not before I kill Count Rugen (Goldman 330). A quote like this showcases both sides of the lesson in a way, since Inigo wants to kill Count Rugen himself, but Inigo knows he has to help steal and rescue Buttercup. • 38. The Origin Of Paul Ree By Nietzche In the preface, Nietzsche explains that the conception of this book was born out of his reading of friend Paul Ree s Origin of Moral feelings. A book with which Nietzsche found himself at odds with the assertions of Ree. Nietzsche interpreted Ree s work as denying the universality in the principles of right and wrong. Moreover, Nietzsche saw concurrence with Ree s assertions that different societies moral valuations might be defined by that society s cultural needs and conditions. Nietzsche was also interested in Ree s explanation of the origins of responsibility, morality, punishment, and remorse. Against this understanding of Ree s work, Nietzsche penned three essays which make up the work known as The Genealogy of Morals. These essays are considered some of the more clear and comprehensive writings of Nietzsche. Their intent appears to be a continuation in the critique of Christian morality first established in Beyond Good and Evil. The commonly read first essay sees Nietzsche present an opposition between the master morality and that of the slave . By tracing the etymological grounds of the German words schlect ( bad ), gut (good), and bose (evil), Nietzsche forwards the proposition that a distinction between good and bad was born from ... The important part for me of this essay is in Nietzsche s ability to see both sides of the problem. While critiquing mainly the asceticism of religion, he also presents the opposite extreme of the problems with science. While Nietzsche does not necessarily reject the ideals of ascetics, he does highlight the thought that morality and culture are artifacts of mankind. Hence, even the metaphysical conceptions of right, wrong, and soul are at their core human made conceptions that must be questioned; not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Persuasive Essay On Banning Campus Violence Banning Campus Violence The results of the illegal actions performed by the campus members lead to the increasing number of victims of the violence at campus. The paper investigates the necessity to elaborate the necessary measures and methods to stimulate the process of reducing and further banning of the violence on campus. The essence of this approach is on the reasons, which should motivate the education institutions management to reduce the number of cases of violence on campus. Therefore, the essential measure to ban the campus violence is the establishment of the legal framework and controlling procedure over the students members of the campuses as the cases of the violent actions have recently become frequent enough and lead to the negative consequences for the students health and life. However, not all the scholars have a conviction that there is a need to fight for the ban of violence on campuses. The paper s structure applies the appeals of ethos, pathos, and logos to make the reader s perception of the problem more serious and profound. Wade and Its Impact on American Society Few Supreme Court decisions have stirred up as much controversy, vitriolic debate, and even violence as the one delivered in Roe v. Wade in 1973. Four decades later, it remains a touchstone for the culture wars in the United States and a pivot upon which much of American politics turns. In fact, the authors of Roe v. Wade: The Abortion Rights Controversy in American History state that even today, the case (and its companion cases) remains the most divisive and controversial judicial decision of the twentieth century (3). Although it is a landmark case in itself, its continuing influence on American law and politics proves that its legacy lives on far beyond its formal resolution in a court of law. Essentially, the most important points are that the cause of the case s complexity and drama is the legal relationship between men and women that the ruling mirrored and compounded, the way the medical profession was impacted, and the political significance that the issue still holds presently. One cannot understand what Roe v. Wade meant to women or to men without understanding how abortion became illegal, and that story begins in the nineteenth century. In 1821, Connecticut became the first state to explicitly criminalize abortion. The primary purpose of this law was to spell out the conditions under which the state could prosecute an abortionist for an abortion. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
