Paper Airplane Experiment
The paper airplane experiment The Paper Airplane Experiment is to test how people interpret my
instructions on creating a paper airplane. The paper airplane instructions have short descriptions and
pictures. I gave my instructions to three people and asked the three people to follow them. The paper
airplane instructions stated the following: get a piece of paper, fold the paper according to the
diagrams, and throw the paper airplane. The three people I gave the paper airplane instructions to are:
Valerie a biology major, Pratap a business major, and Robbie a philosophy major. As they made their
airplanes, I observed, timed, and recorded their actions. I had preconceived notions on how each
subject would perform based on their majors. The results ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Robbie did not go pass the 2nd step. I ended the experiment after 10 minutes. I noticed Robbie kept
looking at the diagrams at the later steps. Robbie was trying to figure out what to do at step two by
looking at what he should do at step 3, 4, and so on. When I ended the experiment, Robbie told me
that my instructions were unclear. I was surprised when Robbie told me that. Valerie and Pratap were
able to follow the instructions with little trouble. Robbie said the wording I used for the explanations
were not clear. I asked Robbie what kind of learner he identified as and Robbie told me he identified
as a visual learner. When I made the instructions, I did not account for visual learners. Visual learners
learn from watching demonstrations. The paper airplane instructions would not help a visual learner. I
asked Robbie how he usually learns new topics. Robbie told me he would ask friends to teach him or
watch YouTube videos. I decided to change how Robbie would learn how to make a paper airplane. I
took out a piece of paper and made a paper airplane. I stopped at every step to make sure Robbie
understood why I did each step. Once I finished, I asked Robbie if he could redo the

Artificial Sweeteners Should Be Banned
Artificial sweeteners should be banned because of their harmful effects
Kaleb Kassaye
Nova Southeastern University
[Comp 1050 EV2: Kevin Dvorak] The use of artificial sweeteners in beverages and food has been on a
steady rise since 1969, the year it was authorized in the United States of America. The popularity of
artificial sweeteners has been on a rise because of the benefit that it is a zero calorie sweetener .Even
though artificial sweeteners have some great benefits many scientists believe that it causes adverse
effects such as cancer, weight gain and depression. I strongly believe that consumers are not aware of
the side effects of artificial sweeteners hence the increase in consumption since 1969.
Through extensive research, scientists have concluded that artificial sweeteners are carcinogenic; a
cancer causing agent. Scientific research has revealed that cyclamate in combination with saccharin,
the two main ingredients in artificial sweeteners, caused bladder cancer in laboratory rats. Though test
where not done on humans scientist believe that the long term effect of using artificial sweeteners
would lead to the same complications in humans. Amino acids are biologically important organic
compounds composed of amine and carboxylic acid functional groups. The human body needs amino
acids to thrive. It is documented that ingestion of high amounts of artificial amino acids found in
artificial sweeteners can have adverse effects on the human body such as cancer.

Social Justice
Justice in a Capitalist Society
Justice basically advocating for individuals to have what is due to them. As a result, it becomes easy to
achieve fairness and impartiality in dealing with political, economic and social issues. Therefore,
social justice can be described as the promotion of a fair society by calling fighting injustices and also
upholding diversity. This can be observed in a society where people exhibit common humanity and all
have equal access to treatment, social services and equitable allocation of resources. This sort of
society condemns discrimination in the strongest terms possible, there is no prejudice, gender bias,
religious persecution, and ethnic profiling. According to the John Rawl s theory, inequalities in
allocation of a society s resources can be allowed only if it is in the best interest of the lowest earners
of the particular society (Rawls, 1999). The theory also prescribes that every individual in any ...

In this case, it possible to have people of different races, religion and political affiliations working
together. However, this is happening just because in capitalist societies there are policy makers,
religious leaders and lawmakers who seek to promote justice in the society.
Social justice and capitalism
Nonetheless, social justice is possible under capitalism in today s society. Capitalism, under the tenet
of equality of opportunities which are determined by diversity, legal equality as well as learned
capabilities, seeks to promote social justice in the society. This tenet has been able to ensure that
capitalists do not foster prejudice and discrimination in the society. Consequently, members of the
society are able to fight for their rights and complain in case of lack of legal equality, and thus this
would help them receive just treatment

Are High School Sports Good For Kids Essay
For many young people in America, sports are their dreams and hopes. And this is not
without reason. Research has shown that children who participate in athletics are happier and
more goal driven than their non athletic peers. High school athletics are still a highly beneficial
activity for young people everywhere, and this is why it is important for sports programs across
the country to stay right where they are. Sports programs should be kept in high schools because
they have a positive effect on academics, they improve determination, and they bring people
together.

people in America play high school sports each year. In Michigan alone almost ... Show more content

Not to mention the many sports scholarships colleges offer.
Usually, altogether, doing sports has a positive effect on teenagers across the nation.
While many claim that sports are negative for young people, with many injuries and
wrong lessons, I find that sports are actually very rewarding for young people. Jeffrey Perkel in
his article, High, School, College Football Comes With Risk, describes how football can be
particularly dangerous. But he doesn t describe the many sports that are much less dangerous, or
the dangers of obesity, inactivity, and loneliness. Some say that children are being taught that
winning is the only thing that matters, and it is true that in recent society there has been an
emphasis on winning. It is also said kids who are enveloped in pressure stemming from sports
are more likely to burn out sooner, but a study in Michigan reveals that kids who play sports
actually have more aspirations and are more likely to set and achieve goals. This highlights how
though impressionable kids may be being taught questionable lessons, the journey they take to
winning is much more

Analysis Of Nomi Nickel
Upon reading the first page, I knew this would be a good book to read. The story started ______. The
writing style is in the first person told from the perspective of Nomi Nickel and reads similar to a
memoir. This is effective because it helps the reader to step inside the main characters head to view
their thoughts and helps the reader to understand the characters actions. We are able to view the
shaping of the character through the characters thoughts when events happen. Like when, Nomi did
such and such this told the audience that she is a person who ______. The first ten chapters give us a
look into Nomi Nickels past, her opinions, and thoughts. As a result, I can see why nomi turned from a
strict religious follower to a rebellious teenager. They show the transition of her thoughts from a
straight edge Mennonite follower to a rebellious teenager. Miriam Toews has a dry sense of humor
that is thrown into Nomi s everyday activities. This keeps the book interesting and is a surprise when
it happens, such as when the garbage men throw out Ray s hutch, not only was this unexpected but
Ray s reaction was unforeseen. Rather than express his thoughts or feelings on what happened, Ray
shuts himself in his room. This is seen as a childlike reaction rather than an adult, as a result this sets
the tone for Ray and Nomi s relationship. In the town, many of the teens represent a character foil. On
Saturday nights they go out drinking, partying, having sex, and on Sunday they return

One of his first awards was the La Flèche Wallonne in 1996. Another one of his great
accomplishments was the sports illustrated sports person of the year which he won on 2002. He has
also won the best comeback athlete espy award. And another award was when for the united states
national road race championships. He has won many more awards for other things but all that was
taken away for cheating by doping. He lost all of his awards and his wins were given to the person in
second place. It was not fair that he cheated in the races by doping hi way to the top, so i think he

The Use Of Hippocampal Neurons On Memory
Abstract: Optogenetics has been used to show that activating a specific ensemble of hippocampal
neurons that contribute to a memory engram can erase or even alter a memory. The purpose of the
study was to use optogenetics and the addition of an external stimuli to try and create a false memory.
Neurons of mice were labeled with a light sensitive channel during the exploration of a safe room.
Mice were then placed in a new room and given foot shocks while simultaneously using light pulses to
activate the neurons that had been previously labeled in the safe room. After being placed back into
the safe room, mice exhibited freezing responses. A false memory of fear was created in these mice as
they demonstrated freezing behavior in the room in which they had not been shocked. Multiple
methods have been used to manipulate neuronal pathways, and the fact that so many different methods
already exist suggest a bright future for the discovery of a method that can be beneficial to humans.
Understanding how the hippocampus functions is essential to understanding how psychological
diseases affect memory, and this procedure has the potential to be a type of treatment. This study
demonstrates how unreliable memories are, and how the complete manipulation of one can be
accomplished simply by activating a specific neuronal population.
Introduction:
A major goal in neuroscience is to noninvasively, safely, and precisely be able to control specific
neuronal populations. This

Gender Stereotypes In American Culture
Society can put unrealistic expectations of reality into individuals from a very young age. As soon as a
child can begin to comprehend what is going on around them, they are shown movies of perfect
society s and perfect marriage. So, as they grow older, this is what they expect life to be like. Then,
when they finally reach a certain age they begin to wonder why life isn t going the way they thought it
was going to go. The picture that the media and movies portray of life and how one is supposed to
look can make individuals put outrageous expectation on themselves in order to be normal . Nobody
feels those expectations more than females growing up do. Women are oversexualized and kept
inferior to their male counterparts and this can affect ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Society has painted a picture that beautiful is the most important thing that a women can be. Smarts, a
good personality, and other great traits do not matter if the women is not attractive looking. The media
is most responsible for this stereotype. Women in commercials and television shows give girls a false
expectation of what they are supposed to look like. The women on these programs have thousands of
dollars of make up on and have done countless number of surgeries on themselves to make themselves
look attractive . Not only does this effect the girl s self esteem, it also puts a false image into men s
heads about how women are supposed to look. This puts even more pressure on the women to try to
achieve something that is unattainable. Not only are the women in these advertisements unrealistic
looking, they are also over sexualized. Over sexualized means that these women are being shown as
sex figures instead of being actual actors. One of the worst offenders in over sexualizing women is
music videos. Music videos almost always have scantily clad women dancing in a sexual way
throughout the duration of song. This coupled with lyrics that are vulgarly demeaning towards women
give ladies a false idea of what they have to be in order for a man to like them. In conclusion, there are
many unrealistic expectations that society puts on all people. Expectations of what you are supposed

Middle Ages Music
Music in the Middle Ages
The Middle Ages were a time of hardship and war. All people ever did was train, go into battle and
die. There were those delicate moments, though, where music was allowed to shine and bring light to
a dark world. Though music wasn t very prominent in the Dark Ages, it still played a part in the world.
There wasn t a place or event where you wouldn t hear a bit of music once in awhile. Different
cultures such as Armenia, Islam and the western part of the of Europe had their own kinds of music.
Some people liked the idea of music and others considered it a sinful hobby. Music was even used
during tournaments, jousts, and banquets. Most people were concerned with surviving, but people did
take a chance to listen to music every once in awhile. Music was prominent in many different parts of
the world. Armenia is one such place. People don t really have any information about their type of
music except that they mostly sang folk songs. Liturgical chants were also a type of melody that was
heard in Armenia culture. Liturgical chants are chants that are centered around the church. Armenia
took elements of liturgical chants, secular music of that day, Hebrew liturgy, and pre Christian
melodies and created a kind of music that was very special to them. Not much is known about Islamic
music during this period other than the fact it began to flourish during the Middle Ages. The people of
Islamic religion began to take charge and thus begun a time when Middle

The Trade Of Counterfeit Products Essay
Abstract:
India is a one of the key markets of counterfeit products in South Asia which has negatively affected
its economy since many years. The trade of counterfeit and pirated products hamper the development
of knowledge and innovation as it can greatly reduce the economic benefits for the original creator of
products. Widespread and rampant piracy and weak intellectual property rights (IPR) dilutes the
development of local industry and also endangers the huge investments made in research and
development work of organizations. This can lead to loss of competitive advantage as the
competitiveness of firms is driven by the firm s ability to innovate and create new products churned
from its knowledge capital. Counterfeiting and piracy can exist in the market from within or due to
imports from a foreign market but flourishing or controlling of it can be understood majorly by
understanding the attitude of Indian consumers towards purchase of counterfeit and pirated products.
The studies so far particularly considering IPR infringements have been skewed towards
Pharmaceuticals, Entertainment and Information Technology. This paper attempts to investigate and
understand the Indian consumers awareness of IPR infringements and their attitudes and intention
towards purchase of Home Appliances based on psychographic and demographic factors.

In 1997, chairman August Busch III vowed to make his company a leader in mining its customers
buying patterns. The key to Anheuser Busch s real time analysis of marketing effectiveness is timely
data: getting information back from wholesalers and retailers on what is selling where and when.
Wholesaler and store level data has become the lifeblood of our organization, said Joe Patti, Anheuser
s vice president for retail planning and category management. Therefore, Anheuser Busch created
BudNET to connect to wholesalers, retailers, and other Anheuser Busch business partners. The system
handies sales reporting, customer development, retail promotion notices, and weekly sales forecasting,
as well as a wide array of logistics related functions. BudNET is the information channel for an
Anheuser Busch system called WEARS (Wholesaler Equity Agreement Reporting System). Through
BudNET, the delivery people of the 700 U.S. distributors of Budweiser can become the eyes and ears
of the brewer. WEARS and BudNET do much more than just keep tabs on the flow of icy cold Bud off
retailers refrigerated shelves. Using portable transaction computers, the delivery people also log data
on competing products, identifying what else is on the retailers shelves. At the end of the day,
Anheuser Busch gets the data and looks for trends. If Anheuser Busch loses shelf space in a store in

The 1815 Eruption of Mount Tambora
Mount Tambora, located on the Island of Sumbawa, Indonesia is classified as a Stratovolcano. Also
known as a composite volcano, Tambora is a tall conical volcano (cone like structure) where layers of
the walls are built by hardened lava and volcanic ash. The term composite is used to describe the
volcano due to the composite layered structure built from sequential outpourings of eruptive
materials1. Among the most common types of volcanoes, Tambora also shares its destructive prowess
with best known volcanoes such as Krakota (1883) and Vesuvius (79 A.D). The Island of Sumbawa is
located in the middle of the Lesser Sunda Islands chain (a group of islands in the southern Maritime
Southeast Asia) and is in the province of West Nusa Tenggara3. ... Show more content on

Understanding the eruptive history of Tambora can provide crucial information needed to detect and
prepare for future events. Furthermore, it is important to test current understanding of plate tectonics
to ensure scientists are adequately prepared to predict where future volcanoes may occur, using past
volcanoes like Tambora as a model. 2.0 Plate Tectonics of Indonesia Indonesia is situated between two
tectonically active plates: Australian and Eurasian plate. It is important to understand the amount of
fault motion between these plates, as it is the major source of influence regarding eruptions in the
region. The result of these tectonically active plates is the creation of the Circum Pacific belt (termed
the Pacific Ring of Fire) and the Alpide Belt. Figure 3 provides a pictorial view of both plates and
their relation to the Circum Pacific belt. The Circum Pacific belt is the world s greatest earthquake
belt, with a series of fault lines stretching 25,00 miles7. An unfortunate circumstance for the
inhabitants of Indonesia who are situated between these two belts, the eruptions of earthquakes and
volcanoes are far too common. Essentially, volcanoes erupt either due to divergent tectonic plates
pulling apart causing an eruption, or convergent tectonic plates coming together (forming great
pressure) causing an eruption8. In the case of Indonesia and the Circum Pacific belt, the latter is more
common. Because Indonesia and

Ozymandias and the Grecian Urn Paper
Even though Ozymandias by Percy Shelley and Ode to a Grecian Urn by John Keats sound like very
different types of poems, they still share some of the same characteristics. In Ozymandias, Shelley
tells a story of how a man found a ancient statue of a king, with the words My name is Ozymandias,
King of Kings,/ Look on my Works, ye Might, and despair! The statue was broken into pieces, and the
land was bare, with nothing to look on (11). In Ode to a Grecian Urn, Keats is speaking to an ancient
urn and describing the unchanging pictures that are on it. These poems are very different in how their
objects interact with the passing of time and in the feelings that they invoke in the reader, but very
similar in the romantic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The poem gives the reader a feeling of loneliness and emptiness by using lines like The lone and level
sands and boundless and bare (14, 13). In Ode to a Grecian Urn , the connotations of the words that
Keats uses are completely opposite. Keats even describes the urn as being able to tell A flowery tale
more sweetly than [their] rhyme (4). Keats then goes on to state that the melodies unheard/ Are
sweeter; therefore, ye soft pipes, play on (11 12). These lines are so light and pretty especially
compared to the harshness of Shelley s poem. Keats describes the beautiful pictures on the urn
throughout the rest of the poem, even making a sacrifice sound peaceful. Even though the way the
poems objects interact with the passing of time and the feelings the poems invoke in the reader differ
greatly, the romantic characteristics that both poems symbolize are very similar. Ironically, the
opposite parallels of the two poems have a way of representing a romantic mindset. For example, the
romantics believed that nature is supposed to teach. In Ozymandias , nature destroys a statue and a
town that had arisen from greed and the abuse of power. The king is stated to have a sneer of cold
command and a heart that fed his own desires (4,8). The trunkless legs of stone and a shattered visage
makes it sound like nature was not very happy with the king s show of authority (2, 4). In Ode

Why Genetic Engineering Is Morally Good Essay
Determining if genetic engineering is morally good is only half the battle with this ethical issue.
Regardless of whether morally good reasons are used to justify it, genetic engineering is an attempt to
use human intelligence in order to try to overthrow God s original creation or plan for humans.
Scientist are trying to perfect his creation or change it. God has laid out the way things should happen
naturally and humans are attempting to overthrow it. A key word to note is attempt because Scotus
would see genetic engineering as a failed attempt at playing God because he believes that God is all
powerful and it would be impossible for a human to possess that same type of power. In the article
Freedom Beyond Practice Reason: Duns Scotus on Will Dependent Relations the author Tobias
Hoffmann discusses freedom of will according to Scotus. Hoffmann explains that, for Scotus, the will
is free to will any good either for its own sake alone... or for the sake of something else. (Hoffmann
1077). God gave humans the freedom of will which allows individuals to live a life they choice. This
means an individual could choice a life of virtue or a life of sin and God would not intentionally
interfere in their life and force that individual to choose God s preferred path of righteousness. God
has given humans a choice, and permits them to do what they want with their own lives. Likewise,
God has given humans intelligence and what humans do with their intelligence is also up to them

Having a Chicken Farm
There will never be an end to the discussion as to who cooked the first chicken; and whether it was
fried, roasted, or a soup. What we do know for a fact is that if chickens were to arm themselves with
guns and nuclear weapons (provided they know how to use them well), there would be a good chance
of them taking over the world. Let us hope that they re not reading this! Yes, there are more chickens
than humans. And no, they are not taking over the world. At least, not yet. How did it happen? The
Chicken Farm Throughout the centuries, man has realized his delight in chickens. We ve grown fond
of their taste. Kings and paupers have always dreamed of their next chicken meal. From a child s
craving to a man s last meal, chickens have become the fulfillment of a wish. And of course, man has
always looked for more. Chicken fanatics would go around the world in search of a better chicken.
Farms were set to raise up this bird to keep humans sane. Until now, the search has not stopped. The
chase continues. Hence, more farms are being built. The chicken empire has begun. You might be
thinking of the boring, mundane life on a chicken farm. How tedious it is to wake up in the morning
and put feeds in a container, then feed them to those alarm clocks. How at a certain speed (nine miles
an hour), they would gather and eat, with much noise of course. The routine continues, and so are their
occasional calls within the day. You hear them from the moment you wake up (that is, if

knowledge, he fails to follow the rules he has set out in the Discourse on Method. First I claim that
Descartes fails to draw the distinction between pure sensation and inference, which make up what he
calls sensation, and then consider the consequences of this failure to follow his method. Second, I will
show that in his treatment of thinking Descartes fails to distinguish between active and passive
thinking. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His goal is the betterment of the human condition. A useful metaphor for explaining the Cartesian
system is the tree of knowledge .[3] According to Descartes the roots of knowledge are metaphysics,
to which he applies himself in the Meditations. From the metaphysics grow the physics; for they are
justified by the metaphysics; the physics are the trunk of the tree. From the physics branch off
mechanics, medicine and morals, the fruits of which take the form of utility, that is, applied science,
medicine, and applied ethics (on an interpersonal, or international level). The development of these
fruits leads to the improvement of the human condition: freedom from pain, sickness and suffering
through medicine, reduction of stresses on the body and freedom from physical labour through applied
science (which makes our work easier), and freedom from anxiety and mental strain through the
development of applied ethics (which helps us to avoid and resolve conflicts on many levels).
Descartes uses a reductionistic method. In my criticism I will take up this method as well. Descartes
can be criticized on the grounds that this may not be the best method, and is not the only one that has
been proposed as appropriate to the task of justifying beliefs.[4] Descartes uses a first person method
often called epistemic individualism, in which he takes up the position of an

The Birth Of Jesus And The Gospel Of Luke
The birth of Jesus is one of the most well known and performed narratives around the world. Despite
the fact that there are several versions of the narrative, at times there is one version that is considered
more popular than the rest. Many people have this common scenario playing in their heads when
thinking about the birth of Jesus, typically including; a barn, farm animals, the holy family, angels, a
small town, and wise men. However, it is important for individuals to realize that there is not only one
version depicting the Birth Narrative, rather there are two in which both describe the birth of Jesus
differently. Two out of the four Gospels in the New Testament that include the Birth Narratives are the
Gospel of Luke and the Gospel of Matthew. In both these Gospels, it will become apparent that there
are different features in both as well as some similarities which help embody the theme of their
respective Gospels.
Being known as one of the longest Gospels, the Gospel of Luke is distinctive when compared to the
other Synoptic Gospels. However, another important component about this gospel is the birth
narrative being mentioned in a story like form as well as various features that differentiate it when
compared to the birth narrative in the gospel of Matthew. In the Gospel of Luke, various characters
were mentioned which included, Mary, Joseph, Caesar Augustus, angel Gabriel, angels, Shepherds,
Simeon, Anna, Zechariah. The Birth Narrative, became known through the

Roman Influence On Modern Civilization
Now in retrospect, civilizations did in fact have their very own significant ways of distributing their
influence throughout history. Three ways civilizations differentiated their influences are through
conquest, trade and the contributions of those civilizations. These influences contributed to today s
modern society and every influence whether religious, the age, whereabouts and culture of a
civilization scientific discoveries/developments and customs have shaped and make up the
foundations of today s modern world. For instance the Roman Empire utterly destroyed the city of
Carthage in North Africa, with the conquerors allegedly sowing the ground with salt so that nothing

The trading of goods such as foods, resources, supplies and etc. spread influence throughout
civilizations. A great deal of Chinese technology and artistic conventions such as painting, printing,
gunpowder weapons, compass navigation, high temperature furnaces, and medical techniques flowed
westward. Muslim astronomers brought their skills and knowledge to China because Mongol
authorities wanted second opinions on the reading of heavenly signs and portents and assistance in
constructing accurate calendars, so necessary for ritual purposes. (Strayer, Robert W 545) The rise and
impact of the Mongol resulted from trade routes between the contemporary great civilizations
emerged as a result of widespread military conquests; desire for luxury trade items, knowledge, and
technology; unified rule; and female participation in trade concerns. In addition to the profligate items,
the Mongols desired to advance their knowledge in the areas of medication, food production, religion,
astronomy, workmanship, and equipment. As such, documents and books on medicine and agriculture
were transported to and from the Middle East and China. As these exchanges became more frequent
the legacy of unified Mongolian rule through soldierly conquests and desire for new goods, prosperity,
and scientific developments ultimately reduced cultural segregation Thereby, world history became

The Key Attributes Of The Allies Command And Control...
In 1943 the British and American Allies shared a common language and a common enemy, but they
disagreed on the war s grand strategy. (site) General George Marshall, Army Chief of Staff, wanted to
conduct a cross channel invasion bringing the fight directly to the Germans. Winston Churchill,
British Prime Minister, wanted to fight in the edges of the Axis territory and exploit the soft
underbelly of Southern Europe. (site) These strategic differences culminated in the Sicily Campaign,
where the Allies command and control function, in many cases, proved to be inadequate to
consistently integrate joint functions at the operational level, as it failed to ensure all senior leaders
adhered to the three key attributes for Mission Command and, ... Show more content on

The compromise nature of strategic decision to conduct Operation Husky clouded commander s intent
and limited its strategic objective of capturing the island, securing the Mediterranean and pressuring
Italy s commitment to Axis war efforts. (site) But realistically, the Americans wanted a dress rehearsal
for the invasion of France and the British wanted an initial step toward exploiting the Axis s soft
underbelly . (site) Operationally, General Eisenhower and General Alexander failed to clarify the
strategic ambiguity and provide clear operational intent during the planning of Husky. They did not
ensure close proximity between subordinate commands to support planning, integration and
coordination. These deficiencies led the senior subordinate commanders to develop their own
diverging commander s intent causing incomplete understanding which transformed Husky into a
competition between Allies instead of an opportunity to deliver a decisive blow to the Axis by
trapping the German and Italian Armies on Sicily, possibly changing the trajectory of the war. (site)
The biggest obstacle facing the Allies Joint Operations was the lack of trust among the senior
subordinate commanders. Based on his initial impression of the U.S. Army during Operation Torch,
General Alexander did not trust General Patton s 7th Army to carry the main effort during Husky. In
fact, Alexander constructed the OPLAN to limit the American ground forces to

Saying Adios To Spanglish Analysis
Identity Not keeping in touch with your cultural can make you feel lost because it is part of your
ethnic background. It makes you feel like you just do not belong. Leticia Salais s Saying Adios to
Spanglish published 2007, Salais chose not to speak her native language in public because she was
embarrassed by it and related it to poverty. Salais went to great lengths to hide her native language and
culture from the public for professional gain not realizing that her native language and culture
connects her to her ethnic background.
Salais change from avoiding her native language to valuing her bilingualism. As a child, Salais grew

Clark s Legacy Case Study
Legacy:
In 1944, with Clark´s encouragement and financial support from Phipps father, the Northside Testing
and Treatment Center was opened in Harlem. In 1948 it became the Northside Center for Child
Development, it provided testing services and psychological consultations for behavioral problems.
They realized that the Board of Education wasn t doing proper testing for minority students. The
students were put into special needs classes, so Clark started to do his own testing and realized that
many of these students intelligence was above average. (Nyman, 2010). The Treatment Center not
only provided child care information for parents, but also aided teens for vocational guidance. At one
point these resources were only offered to poor black people, but over time it was opened to anyone

Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated, the African Americans who were part of the APA were tired
of the organization not addressing black issues. Their frustrations began the formation of the
Association of Black Psychologist (ABPsi). In 1970, Clark was the first African American to be
selected as the president of the APA (Nyman, 2010). While he held the position, he brought in his
social knowledge and ethical sense to make the APA socially conscious. He helped APA respond to the
volatile 1960s (Jones Pettigrew, 2005). During Clark s presidency, groups of underrepresented people
such as the Committee on Women Psychology were formed which eventually added diversity to the
APA. The most obvious mark of Clark s legacy can be found in the orientation of APA and American
psychology. At the time of his initial involvement, APA leaders endorsed an extremely limited role for
psychology in social concerns. Clark s leadership gave momentum to needed and dramatic changes
within APA and among American psychologists. His legacy endures (Pickren Tomes,

The Cause Of Generalized Anxiety Disorders
In the United States, 85% of all adults and teenagers, more females than males, have been depressed at
one point in their life. (Davey) Although the term is used loosely because people tend to incorrectly
self diagnose their sadness as depression, it is actually defined as a common and serious medical
illness that negatively affects how one feels and the way he or she thinks and acts. (Parekh). In most
cases, depression is accompanied with a type of anxiety disorder such as as generalized anxiety
disorder and social anxiety (Facts). The cause of them occurring at the same time is unknown, but
scientists believe that it is caused by a malfunction of brain chemistry. Generalized anxiety, the
leading mental illness that affects over 40 million ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although interactions may be limited, they are beneficial to a depressed person (Hagerty). Social
relationships with close friends have proved to help lower depression rates and even make it less
severe. Relationships are extremely beneficial to depression because they often help prevent severe
depression or even overcome it over time. Relationships boost confidence from their partner and
provide them with the idea that they are not alone. It has been proven that those who do not have
depression also tend to relate more with those that do have it because non depressed people tend to
have a more positive outlook on life and tend to be more giving and understanding. Overall, if a
depressed person allows for it, relationships and social support have only proved to benefit people

The Eyes Were Watching God
At its first development and publishment, African American literature and works were originally
dedicated to the expression of their plight from slaves, to a second class, and eventually first class
citizens. However, many authors have been able to drift away from that cause and began to express
the importance of identity for individuals and how trials and experiences through life can add to or
detract from someone s personal character and define them as the best that they can become. Author s
of these works had usually conveyed a theme of being able to adopt a new identity through the
experiences that a character is able to face through their life. A well written example of this would by
in the story of Their Eyes Were Watching God, as the main character, Janie, finds new loves in her life
and with each new relationship is able to adopt an identity or add onto her persona, as she adjusts to
her new roles, such as becoming a mother, a wife, and an independent woman. As she is married to
her first husband, Logan, she works with him on the farm performing daily duties, such as milking the
cows (Morrison 73) or tilling the land (79). However she didn t love him as a person, but she was
promised by both Logan and her grandmother then she would grow to love him (65), so as it was the
role at the time to be the faithful wife beside her husband. She eventually loses her sense of
individuality as she begins to venture less and less from the farm and begins to spend more

Corporal Punishment Of Children.
Corporal Punishment of Children When I was in middle school at St. Mary s Catholic School, in
Ethiopia, I used to see our teachers using different techniques to punish my classmates. I remember an
incident in middle school where a friend of mine was punished in a harmful way because he failed to
answer a question. Although the use of corporal punishment in schools is intended to change the
behavior of the student, teachers should not be allowed to use this method to punish their students as it
is not effective for the child s behavioral change, and it affects the student s behavior psychologically
and physically.
To start with, allowing teachers to use the corporal punishment causes physical damage on the student
and abuses the child right. It is obvious that most punishments somehow results in pain. When I was
in middle school, our math teacher Ms. Helen used to order us to solve a question by writing on the
blackboard to show the other students. One day my classmate, Daniel was asked to solve a problem on
the board, but he didn t write a complete answer. Ms. Helen was so angry with him that she put her
pen between his pointing and middle fingers and twisted it so tight. We were so terrified because we
had never seen someone being punished like that before. Daniel couldn t move his fingers and was
taken to the hospital to fix his broken fingers. Our math teacher was fired right away for the excessive
use of force on

Zodiac Killer Informative Speech
I have chosen to do my informative speech on the unsolved mystery of the Zodiac Killer. Methods I
will be using to captivate my audience from the book will be word pictures, numbers, key words, and
to speak claerly. I plan on starting my speech with word pictures by setting the scene of the 1960s
1970s, this was the time period the Zodiac Killer was on his killing spree. This will help them be able
to picture what it was like to live back then and hopefully help them remember my speech. I will use
numbers to get my point across of how many people were killed and affected by the Zodiac Killer
during his reign of terror. This will establish logos into my speech. I am also going to use key words to
keep my audience interested and involved, to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By doing this I will have established pathos and hopefully this will grab my audience s attention.
Since the Zodiac case is still considered unsolved to this day, I will let my audience decide for
themselves who they think the killer was. I will only present facts and leave my opinion out so that it
does not persuade anyone. This will establish a motive for my audience to listen to me, so that they
can figure out who the killer is. From the book, I will use different learning styles to get my point
across, I will also do something unexpected, and I will go review my main point. To get my point
across to everyone in the audience I will use different learning styles. For the auditory learners, I will
be speaking clearly, so that they can hear and understand all my information. I will be using a
PowerPoint with both words and pictures for the visual learners and the visual print learners. Lastly
for the kinesthetic learners I will ask for a show of hands of who has ever heard of the Zodiac Killer. I
will do this so that they can be involved somehow. To keep my audience interested I will do
something unexpected. I m not going to say in this paper what I will be doing, because I want it to be
a surprise to everyone. I could end my speech with the rhetorical question now after hearing all the
facts, who do you think the Zodiac Killer is? or I could say my grandfather was the Zodiac Killer and

  • 2. Paper Airplane Experiment The paper airplane experiment The Paper Airplane Experiment is to test how people interpret my instructions on creating a paper airplane. The paper airplane instructions have short descriptions and pictures. I gave my instructions to three people and asked the three people to follow them. The paper airplane instructions stated the following: get a piece of paper, fold the paper according to the diagrams, and throw the paper airplane. The three people I gave the paper airplane instructions to are: Valerie a biology major, Pratap a business major, and Robbie a philosophy major. As they made their airplanes, I observed, timed, and recorded their actions. I had preconceived notions on how each subject would perform based on their majors. The results ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Robbie did not go pass the 2nd step. I ended the experiment after 10 minutes. I noticed Robbie kept looking at the diagrams at the later steps. Robbie was trying to figure out what to do at step two by looking at what he should do at step 3, 4, and so on. When I ended the experiment, Robbie told me that my instructions were unclear. I was surprised when Robbie told me that. Valerie and Pratap were able to follow the instructions with little trouble. Robbie said the wording I used for the explanations were not clear. I asked Robbie what kind of learner he identified as and Robbie told me he identified as a visual learner. When I made the instructions, I did not account for visual learners. Visual learners learn from watching demonstrations. The paper airplane instructions would not help a visual learner. I asked Robbie how he usually learns new topics. Robbie told me he would ask friends to teach him or watch YouTube videos. I decided to change how Robbie would learn how to make a paper airplane. I took out a piece of paper and made a paper airplane. I stopped at every step to make sure Robbie understood why I did each step. Once I finished, I asked Robbie if he could redo the ... • 3. Artificial Sweeteners Should Be Banned Artificial sweeteners should be banned because of their harmful effects Kaleb Kassaye Nova Southeastern University [Comp 1050 EV2: Kevin Dvorak] The use of artificial sweeteners in beverages and food has been on a steady rise since 1969, the year it was authorized in the United States of America. The popularity of artificial sweeteners has been on a rise because of the benefit that it is a zero calorie sweetener .Even though artificial sweeteners have some great benefits many scientists believe that it causes adverse effects such as cancer, weight gain and depression. I strongly believe that consumers are not aware of the side effects of artificial sweeteners hence the increase in consumption since 1969. Through extensive research, scientists have concluded that artificial sweeteners are carcinogenic; a cancer causing agent. Scientific research has revealed that cyclamate in combination with saccharin, the two main ingredients in artificial sweeteners, caused bladder cancer in laboratory rats. Though test where not done on humans scientist believe that the long term effect of using artificial sweeteners would lead to the same complications in humans. Amino acids are biologically important organic compounds composed of amine and carboxylic acid functional groups. The human body needs amino acids to thrive. It is documented that ingestion of high amounts of artificial amino acids found in artificial sweeteners can have adverse effects on the human body such as cancer. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Social Justice Justice in a Capitalist Society Justice basically advocating for individuals to have what is due to them. As a result, it becomes easy to achieve fairness and impartiality in dealing with political, economic and social issues. Therefore, social justice can be described as the promotion of a fair society by calling fighting injustices and also upholding diversity. This can be observed in a society where people exhibit common humanity and all have equal access to treatment, social services and equitable allocation of resources. This sort of society condemns discrimination in the strongest terms possible, there is no prejudice, gender bias, religious persecution, and ethnic profiling. According to the John Rawl s theory, inequalities in allocation of a society s resources can be allowed only if it is in the best interest of the lowest earners of the particular society (Rawls, 1999). The theory also prescribes that every individual in any ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Capitalism, under the tenet of equality of opportunities which are determined by diversity, legal equality as well as learned capabilities, seeks to promote social justice in the society. This tenet has been able to ensure that capitalists do not foster prejudice and discrimination in the society. • 5. Are High School Sports Good For Kids Essay For many young people in America, sports are their dreams and hopes. And this is not without reason. Research has shown that children who participate in athletics are happier and more goal driven than their non athletic peers. High school athletics are still a highly beneficial activity for young people everywhere, and this is why it is important for sports programs across the country to stay right where they are. Sports programs should be kept in high schools because they have a positive effect on academics, they improve determination, and they bring people together. While many claim that sports are negative for young people, with many injuries and wrong lessons, I find that sports are actually very rewarding for young people. Jeffrey Perkel in his article, High, School, College Football Comes With Risk, describes how football can be particularly dangerous. But he doesn t describe the many sports that are much less dangerous, or the dangers of obesity, inactivity, and loneliness. Some say that children are being taught that winning is the only thing that matters, and it is true that in recent society there has been an emphasis on winning. It is also said kids who are enveloped in pressure stemming from sports are more likely to burn out sooner, but a study in Michigan reveals that kids who play sports actually have more aspirations and are more likely to set and achieve goals. • 8. Analysis Of Nomi Nickel Upon reading the first page, I knew this would be a good book to read. The story started ______. The writing style is in the first person told from the perspective of Nomi Nickel and reads similar to a memoir. This is effective because it helps the reader to step inside the main characters head to view their thoughts and helps the reader to understand the characters actions. We are able to view the shaping of the character through the characters thoughts when events happen. Like when, Nomi did such and such this told the audience that she is a person who ______. The first ten chapters give us a look into Nomi Nickels past, her opinions, and thoughts. As a result, I can see why nomi turned from a strict religious follower to a rebellious teenager. They show the transition of her thoughts from a straight edge Mennonite follower to a rebellious teenager. Miriam Toews has a dry sense of humor that is thrown into Nomi s everyday activities. This keeps the book interesting and is a surprise when it happens, such as when the garbage men throw out Ray s hutch, not only was this unexpected but Ray s reaction was unforeseen. Rather than express his thoughts or feelings on what happened, Ray shuts himself in his room. This is seen as a childlike reaction rather than an adult, as a result this sets the tone for Ray and Nomi s relationship. In the town, many of the teens represent a character foil. On Saturday nights they go out drinking, partying, having sex, and on Sunday they return ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. The Use Of Hippocampal Neurons On Memory Abstract: Optogenetics has been used to show that activating a specific ensemble of hippocampal neurons that contribute to a memory engram can erase or even alter a memory. The purpose of the study was to use optogenetics and the addition of an external stimuli to try and create a false memory. Neurons of mice were labeled with a light sensitive channel during the exploration of a safe room. Mice were then placed in a new room and given foot shocks while simultaneously using light pulses to activate the neurons that had been previously labeled in the safe room. After being placed back into the safe room, mice exhibited freezing responses. A false memory of fear was created in these mice as they demonstrated freezing behavior in the room in which they had not been shocked. Multiple methods have been used to manipulate neuronal pathways, and the fact that so many different methods already exist suggest a bright future for the discovery of a method that can be beneficial to humans. Understanding how the hippocampus functions is essential to understanding how psychological diseases affect memory, and this procedure has the potential to be a type of treatment. This study demonstrates how unreliable memories are, and how the complete manipulation of one can be accomplished simply by activating a specific neuronal population. Introduction: A major goal in neuroscience is to noninvasively, safely, and precisely be able to control specific neuronal populations. This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Gender Stereotypes In American Culture Society can put unrealistic expectations of reality into individuals from a very young age. As soon as a child can begin to comprehend what is going on around them, they are shown movies of perfect society s and perfect marriage. So, as they grow older, this is what they expect life to be like. Then, when they finally reach a certain age they begin to wonder why life isn t going the way they thought it was going to go. The picture that the media and movies portray of life and how one is supposed to look can make individuals put outrageous expectation on themselves in order to be normal . Society has painted a picture that beautiful is the most important thing that a women can be. Smarts, a good personality, and other great traits do not matter if the women is not attractive looking. The media is most responsible for this stereotype. Women in commercials and television shows give girls a false expectation of what they are supposed to look like. The women on these programs have thousands of dollars of make up on and have done countless number of surgeries on themselves to make themselves look attractive . Not only does this effect the girl s self esteem, it also puts a false image into men s heads about how women are supposed to look. This puts even more pressure on the women to try to achieve something that is unattainable. Not only are the women in these advertisements unrealistic looking, they are also over sexualized. Over sexualized means that these women are being shown as sex figures instead of being actual actors. One of the worst offenders in over sexualizing women is music videos. Music videos almost always have scantily clad women dancing in a sexual way throughout the duration of song. This coupled with lyrics that are vulgarly demeaning towards women give ladies a false idea of what they have to be in order for a man to like them. In conclusion, there are many unrealistic expectations that society puts on all people. Expectations of what you are supposed to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. Middle Ages Music Music in the Middle Ages The Middle Ages were a time of hardship and war. All people ever did was train, go into battle and die. There were those delicate moments, though, where music was allowed to shine and bring light to a dark world. Though music wasn t very prominent in the Dark Ages, it still played a part in the world. There wasn t a place or event where you wouldn t hear a bit of music once in awhile. Different cultures such as Armenia, Islam and the western part of the of Europe had their own kinds of music. Some people liked the idea of music and others considered it a sinful hobby. Music was even used during tournaments, jousts, and banquets. Most people were concerned with surviving, but people did take a chance to listen to music every once in awhile. Music was prominent in many different parts of the world. Armenia is one such place. People don t really have any information about their type of music except that they mostly sang folk songs. Liturgical chants were also a type of melody that was heard in Armenia culture. Liturgical chants are chants that are centered around the church. Armenia took elements of liturgical chants, secular music of that day, Hebrew liturgy, and pre Christian melodies and created a kind of music that was very special to them. Not much is known about Islamic music during this period other than the fact it began to flourish during the Middle Ages. • 15. The Trade Of Counterfeit Products Essay Abstract: India is a one of the key markets of counterfeit products in South Asia which has negatively affected its economy since many years. The trade of counterfeit and pirated products hamper the development of knowledge and innovation as it can greatly reduce the economic benefits for the original creator of products. Widespread and rampant piracy and weak intellectual property rights (IPR) dilutes the development of local industry and also endangers the huge investments made in research and development work of organizations. This can lead to loss of competitive advantage as the competitiveness of firms is driven by the firm s ability to innovate and create new products churned from its knowledge capital. Counterfeiting and piracy can exist in the market from within or due to imports from a foreign market but flourishing or controlling of it can be understood majorly by understanding the attitude of Indian consumers towards purchase of counterfeit and pirated products. The studies so far particularly considering IPR infringements have been skewed towards Pharmaceuticals, Entertainment and Information Technology. This paper attempts to investigate and understand the Indian consumers awareness of IPR infringements and their attitudes and intention towards purchase of Home Appliances based on psychographic and demographic factors. In 1997, chairman August Busch III vowed to make his company a leader in mining its customers buying patterns. The key to Anheuser Busch s real time analysis of marketing effectiveness is timely data: getting information back from wholesalers and retailers on what is selling where and when. BudNET is the information channel for an Anheuser Busch system called WEARS (Wholesaler Equity Agreement Reporting System). Through BudNET, the delivery people of the 700 U.S. distributors of Budweiser can become the eyes and ears of the brewer. WEARS and BudNET do much more than just keep tabs on the flow of icy cold Bud off retailers refrigerated shelves. Using portable transaction computers, the delivery people also log data on competing products, identifying what else is on the retailers shelves. At the end of the day, Anheuser Busch gets the data and looks for trends. If Anheuser Busch loses shelf space in a store in Clarksville, Tennessee, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 18. The 1815 Eruption of Mount Tambora Mount Tambora, located on the Island of Sumbawa, Indonesia is classified as a Stratovolcano. Also known as a composite volcano, Tambora is a tall conical volcano (cone like structure) where layers of the walls are built by hardened lava and volcanic ash. The term composite is used to describe the volcano due to the composite layered structure built from sequential outpourings of eruptive materials1. Among the most common types of volcanoes, Tambora also shares its destructive prowess with best known volcanoes such as Krakota (1883) and Vesuvius (79 A.D). The Island of Sumbawa is located in the middle of the Lesser Sunda Islands chain (a group of islands in the southern Maritime Southeast Asia) and is in the province of West Nusa Tenggara3. ... Furthermore, it is important to test current understanding of plate tectonics to ensure scientists are adequately prepared to predict where future volcanoes may occur, using past volcanoes like Tambora as a model. 2.0 Plate Tectonics of Indonesia Indonesia is situated between two tectonically active plates: Australian and Eurasian plate. It is important to understand the amount of fault motion between these plates, as it is the major source of influence regarding eruptions in the region. The result of these tectonically active plates is the creation of the Circum Pacific belt (termed the Pacific Ring of Fire) and the Alpide Belt. Figure 3 provides a pictorial view of both plates and their relation to the Circum Pacific belt. The Circum Pacific belt is the world s greatest earthquake belt, with a series of fault lines stretching 25,00 miles7. An unfortunate circumstance for the inhabitants of Indonesia who are situated between these two belts, the eruptions of earthquakes and volcanoes are far too common. Essentially, volcanoes erupt either due to divergent tectonic plates pulling apart causing an eruption, or convergent tectonic plates coming together (forming great pressure) causing an eruption8. In the case of Indonesia and the Circum Pacific belt, the latter is more common. Because Indonesia and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 19. Ozymandias and the Grecian Urn Paper Even though Ozymandias by Percy Shelley and Ode to a Grecian Urn by John Keats sound like very different types of poems, they still share some of the same characteristics. In Ozymandias, Shelley tells a story of how a man found a ancient statue of a king, with the words My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings,/ Look on my Works, ye Might, and despair! The statue was broken into pieces, and the land was bare, with nothing to look on (11). In Ode to a Grecian Urn, Keats is speaking to an ancient urn and describing the unchanging pictures that are on it. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The poem gives the reader a feeling of loneliness and emptiness by using lines like The lone and level sands and boundless and bare (14, 13). In Ode to a Grecian Urn , the connotations of the words that Keats uses are completely opposite. Keats even describes the urn as being able to tell A flowery tale more sweetly than [their] rhyme (4). Keats then goes on to state that the melodies unheard/ Are sweeter; therefore, ye soft pipes, play on (11 12). These lines are so light and pretty especially compared to the harshness of Shelley s poem. Keats describes the beautiful pictures on the urn throughout the rest of the poem, even making a sacrifice sound peaceful. Even though the way the poems objects interact with the passing of time and the feelings the poems invoke in the reader differ greatly, the romantic characteristics that both poems symbolize are very similar. Ironically, the opposite parallels of the two poems have a way of representing a romantic mindset. For example, the romantics believed that nature is supposed to teach. In Ozymandias , nature destroys a statue and a town that had arisen from greed and the abuse of power. The king is stated to have a sneer of cold command and a heart that fed his own desires (4,8). The trunkless legs of stone and a shattered visage makes it sound like nature was not very happy with the king s show of authority (2, 4). In Ode ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 21. Why Genetic Engineering Is Morally Good Essay Determining if genetic engineering is morally good is only half the battle with this ethical issue. Regardless of whether morally good reasons are used to justify it, genetic engineering is an attempt to use human intelligence in order to try to overthrow God s original creation or plan for humans. Scientist are trying to perfect his creation or change it. God has laid out the way things should happen naturally and humans are attempting to overthrow it. A key word to note is attempt because Scotus would see genetic engineering as a failed attempt at playing God because he believes that God is all powerful and it would be impossible for a human to possess that same type of power. In the article Freedom Beyond Practice Reason: Duns Scotus on Will Dependent Relations the author Tobias Hoffmann discusses freedom of will according to Scotus. Hoffmann explains that, for Scotus, the will is free to will any good either for its own sake alone... or for the sake of something else. (Hoffmann 1077). God gave humans the freedom of will which allows individuals to live a life they choice. This means an individual could choice a life of virtue or a life of sin and God would not intentionally interfere in their life and force that individual to choose God s preferred path of righteousness. God has given humans a choice, and permits them to do what they want with their own lives. What we do know for a fact is that if chickens were to arm themselves with guns and nuclear weapons (provided they know how to use them well), there would be a good chance of them taking over the world. Let us hope that they re not reading this! Yes, there are more chickens than humans. And no, they are not taking over the world. At least, not yet. How did it happen? The Chicken Farm Throughout the centuries, man has realized his delight in chickens. We ve grown fond of their taste. Kings and paupers have always dreamed of their next chicken meal. From a child s craving to a man s last meal, chickens have become the fulfillment of a wish. And of course, man has always looked for more. Chicken fanatics would go around the world in search of a better chicken. Farms were set to raise up this bird to keep humans sane. Until now, the search has not stopped. The chase continues. Hence, more farms are being built. The chicken empire has begun. You might be thinking of the boring, mundane life on a chicken farm. How tedious it is to wake up in the morning and put feeds in a container, then feed them to those alarm clocks. Essay on Descartes Failure Descartes Failure In his Meditations on First Philosophy, Descartes strives first and foremost to provide an infallibly justified foundation for the empirical sciences, and second to prove the existence of God. I will focus on the first and second meditations in my attempt to show that, in his skepticism of the sources of knowledge, he fails to follow the rules he has set out in the Discourse on Method. First I claim that Descartes fails to draw the distinction between pure sensation and inference, which make up what he calls sensation, and then consider the consequences of this failure to follow his method. Second, I will show that in his treatment of thinking Descartes fails to distinguish between active and passive thinking. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His goal is the betterment of the human condition. A useful metaphor for explaining the Cartesian system is the tree of knowledge .[3] According to Descartes the roots of knowledge are metaphysics, to which he applies himself in the Meditations. From the metaphysics grow the physics; for they are justified by the metaphysics; the physics are the trunk of the tree. From the physics branch off mechanics, medicine and morals, the fruits of which take the form of utility, that is, applied science, medicine, and applied ethics (on an interpersonal, or international level). The development of these fruits leads to the improvement of the human condition: freedom from pain, sickness and suffering through medicine, reduction of stresses on the body and freedom from physical labour through applied science (which makes our work easier), and freedom from anxiety and mental strain through the development of applied ethics (which helps us to avoid and resolve conflicts on many levels). Descartes uses a reductionistic method. In my criticism I will take up this method as well. Descartes can be criticized on the grounds that this may not be the best method, and is not the only one that has been proposed as appropriate to the task of justifying beliefs.[4] Descartes uses a first person method often called epistemic individualism, in which he takes up the position of an ... Two out of the four Gospels in the New Testament that include the Birth Narratives are the Gospel of Luke and the Gospel of Matthew. In both these Gospels, it will become apparent that there are different features in both as well as some similarities which help embody the theme of their respective Gospels. Being known as one of the longest Gospels, the Gospel of Luke is distinctive when compared to the other Synoptic Gospels.
