Chavez Ravine Research Paper
Baseball has always been an American sport full of merriment for the whole family, but what lies
beyond the rooting, peanuts, and crackerjacks, is a bitter memory for the families who resided in the
Chavez Ravine. The Chavez Ravine was located a few miles from downtown Los Angeles. This
poverty stricken place was home to a tight knit Mexican community. Many families were forced out of
their homes kicking and screaming others took the couple of dollars given to them to relocate in order
to build federally funded public houses. The Chavez Ravine faced many problems from the remove of
its inhabitants to subject of McCarthyism, and finally an unhappy memory to those who lost their
homes when the Dodger Stadium was built.

Socrates Euthyphro Analysis
In the excerpts from Plato s dialogue, Socrates asks Euthyphro Is what is holy holy because the gods
approve it, or do they approve it because it is holy? (Socrates, pg. 52) . Socrates, seems to want to

Project Director Of Injury Prevention Services
Every person has their own definition of what a leader should be. Whether a leader should possess
certain traits or lead in a specific style, most people have a different perspective. Nonetheless, all
leaders have a story to tell on his/her journey to obtaining their leadership role. This paper will focus
on Program Director of Injury Prevention Services Julisa Alviso Silva, and the challenges and success
she has experience as a leader of this organization.
History
In 1994, Riverside University Health System Department of Public Health established Injury
Prevention Services. The branch was established to address childhood injuries, and fatalities in
Riverside County. The programs included in the branch are car seat safety, pedestrian/bicycle safety,
suicide prevention for teens, and teen impaired driving prevention. In addition, new programs have
remerged into the branch, such as home safety and water and pool safety. Program Director Julisa
Alviso Silva has been directing the branch for the past 10 years and is in charge of 20 staff members.
But before becoming a leader of a successful branch, Julisa had different aspirations in life.
Background
Julisa received her Bachelor s degree in Business with a concentration in Marketing and Management
from California State University San Bernardino. During her undergraduate years Julisa was president
of her business club and it was her first experience as a leader. Her goal was to eventually work for a
marketing agency and she

Legalizing Medical Marijuana Research Paper
Legalize Medical Marijuana When people think of marijuana they think everything bad about medical
marijuana just because it has the word marijuana, but is medical marijuana really bad? Alcohol has
been legal for centuries now and no doubt the most harmful drug in America and probably the most
addictive. Marijuana has medical benefits to it that everyone always overlooks. Therefor why push
away legalizing something that is beneficial to Americans with sickness and keep legal something that
is harmful to Americans today. If medical marijuana has so many medical benefits, then why is
alcohol, which has no medical benefits legally and not marijuana? Since 1996 when California
legalized medical marijuana twenty two other states and the District of Columbia has also done the
same. Medical Marijuana has Colorado being called ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

How America Has Shaped Our History Essay
Bayli Beehler America has dealt with many things that shaped our history including major wars,
fighting for freedoms of all people, and terrorist attacks, but they all give us a reason to continue
strengthening our country. The events that we have encountered shaped our history today. In many
ways, America has changed greatly for the best interest of the people. Over the course of years,
America has engaged in many battles. The American Revolution, the Civil War, and the Vietnam War
rank among the highest wars of importance to our history. If the American Revolution would not have

There were a lot of struggles for equal rights in America, and we have come a long way. In the past,
slaves and women of our country were not given very many rights. Slavery was officially abolished in
1865, due to the thirteenth amendment.. Since this amendment, there has still been numerous racial
issues, but people are willing to stand up strongly for what they believe in. Adding the nineteenth
amendment also brought Americans a sense of equality, because if allowed women the right to vote.
Women had been fighting for their rights since our country began for their equality. Along with these
movements, there have been several including equality of gender, race, and religious beliefs. To this
day, America is still taking steps to insure all people have equal rights. Recently, in 2010 our country
passed the Equality Act which prohibits discrimination of those undergoing gender reassignment.
Equality between people does not necessarily mean having the same opinions, but having the same
opportunities. Throughout history America has provided equality to all issues brought up, which gives
us hope that we will continue to live in a country where freedom is most definitely

Discourse Community Analysis Essay example
The Journey of A Successful Soccer Player
In order to be accepted into a discourse community, a person must learn typical ways people in that
community communicate and argue. In this paper I will prove that I entered the discourse community
of my high school soccer team by acquiring knowledge, establishing my credibility, and learning the
game I love. In other words, I will be using the ethos, logos, and pathos appeals. I love to play soccer
and watch the professionals who play on TV. I have played since I was ten years old and always
played in a city league team. The requirements of being part of the team were simple but at the same
time very hard. I was recently part of my high school soccer team, the Crowley Eagles. People might

In soccer you must be able to communicate with not only one, but with all of your team mates. This is
something we worked on from the start. We communicated in many different ways such as training on
a daily basis, to enduring a punishment together as a team. Even calling each other out became a
common way of communicating. Everyone in the team had to learn to collaborate with each other
even if they didn t like it. It seemed kind of pointless at first but it was all part of building chemistry
with each other. It was difficult year after year loosing and gaining people to be able to accept new
players in to our family. Coach King was one of the greatest coaches I have ever had. He came off as
this mean and grumpy old man at first but we ended up changing how we viewed him. He made it
clear to us that we just had understand his meaning of the word GAS. GAS meant grades, attitude, and
then skill. Grades of course were the most important thing because no pass no play was the rule. Most
of the guys had no problems with this but there was quite a few that had some trouble. When one was
struggling we all had to step up and help if we wanted to have a full squad for our next few games. We
did many things to help them including getting help from tutors or teachers when in danger of failing.
As the year went on, many obstacles were thrown at us and we counted on each other to get through
them.

Accounting is mainly concerned with general rules, concepts and principles that are established with
the purpose of governing different fields of financial reporting. Accounting principles are also known
as accounting principles and guidelines, these acts as the base on which more complex and critical
rules are based. The authority responsible for issuing the accounting standards (i.e. financial

Ratio Analysis is used for evaluation of performance of the company by internal as well as external
users. These comprises of managers, equity investors, long term creditors and short term creditors.
The managers are interested in the profitability and asset utilization ratios of the company as their
incentives and appraisal are based on the profitability and efficiency of asset utilization of their
respective divisions. Higher the profitability, higher is the chances of promotion. Thus, managers are
always very keen to analyze the different financial ratios of the company.
Those who invest in equity are always interested in knowing about the profitability, Market and
solvency ratios of the company. Higher profitability ratio is helpful in increasing the market value of
the company. The market ratios like dividend yield, price earnings ratio, earnings per share etc. is
useful in determining the exact position of the company s market share. Favorable market ratio
indicates the increase in market capitalization for investors and vice versa. The equity investors are
also interested in knowing the solvency ratio as high debt will pose danger to the ownership of the
company. Higher debt is harmful for the liquidity position of the company and in some worst cases;
the company even faces the risk of liquidation.
The long term creditors and short term creditors are majorly concerned about the liquidity and
solvency position of an organization. The increase in the debt

A Research On Sustainable Engineering Building
Sustainable Engineering Building In our world, today we make more and more discoveries every day
and with that new knowledge comes innovation. Since the engineering building was first built in the
late 1890 s, there have been many advances in becoming a more environmentally friendly building. It
is time to transform this historical building into what will be one of the greenest buildings on any
campus in the world. Before the University was Texas A M, it was initially owned and called East
Texas State University. It was not until 1995 that the school was bought by Texas A M. Texas A M

Toxins have leached out of industry facilities and factories into water supplies such as streams, rivers
and into the world s oceans. Marine and aquatic life has suffered as a result of these poisonous
chemicals contaminating ocean beds, wetlands and marshlands. Once a healthy food source, seafood
and fresh water fish are often dangerous to eat due to mercury and other harmful and deadly chemicals
found in randomly tested fish and seafood. (Painter 2017) Sally brings up an excellent point when the
says that toxins have leached out of facilities and factories because when most think of going green
they think how to save energy. But going green is not just about saving energy; it is about making a
cleaner environment at the same time. What is sustainable design? For the past, the art of creating a
building was much more simple due to the fact that there were not as many requirement on size,
efficiency, and economy. There was not a care in the world on what effects these buildings would have
on the future civilization. But in the world today, the construction industry has become much more
concerned with what the future holds. According to Daniel Vallero and Chris Brasier, sustainable
design or Green Design is Green design encompasses numerous ways to improve processes and
products to make them more efficient from an environmental standpoint. (Vallero, Brasier) In other

Default Risk And The Ways Of Identifying It Essay
Default Risk and the ways of identifying it in corporate bond market
Introduction
In bond market, there are a number of bonds offered for investors to purchase such as Treasury bonds,
municipal bonds, mortgage securities and so on. Among these various bonds, one particular kind of
bond is the corporate bond which attracts a wide range of investors with their higher return. However,
there are no free lunches in financial market. Being accompanied by the high yield, the corporate bond
investors have to face higher default risk which is the risk that the issuer will default on its debt
obligation in bond market. Especially after the 2008 crisis crunch in which vast amounts of debt
default occurred, an increasing number of investors realize the significance of identifying the default
risk in the bond investments. This essay will first consider the reason why investors ought to recognize
the default risk and secondly, will explore the different ways in which investors can identify the
default risk of corporate bonds.
Importance of recognizing default risk
In bond market, one important indicator of distinguishing the different bonds is the degree of default
risk. A good example of this is Treasury bonds and corporate bonds. These two bonds are similar in
the structure of coupon payment and the principal return, however, Treasury bonds generally may be
viewed as the free of default risk as we all know the government would not go bankruptcy easily,
which is a good option for

Harmonic Hearing Co. Case
Recommendation
Under the two circumstances presented, I recommend that Harriet Burns and Richard Irvine should
finance the purchase of Harmonic Hearing Co. through the deal proposed by the private equity firm,
Comet Capital. This proposal best aligns with Burns and Irvine s goal to select an option that offers
the best combination of cost, expected return of their ownership interest and financial flexibility. To
evaluate the two alternatives, a comparison based on IRR was assessed. Harrison Price s proposal,
which relies almost entirely on debt financing, offers an IRR of 215.5% (Appendix A). On the other
hand, Joe Fowler s proposal, which consists of equity financing, offers an IRR of ... Show more

If R D were to grow 15% annually instead of staying constant at $600,000 after year one, the terminal
value would drop drastically to $14.5 million from the original prediction of $45.3 million (a drop of
68%). In addition, Burns and Irvine would yield a measly IRR of 22.6% in comparison to the 215.5%
originally projected (Appendix D). The global industry in hearing aids is dominated by six
multinational giants and many small companies like Harmonic are still allowed to operate successfully
in the industry. In order to flush out these smaller companies, the six giant companies may decide in
the future to cut costs and offer cheaper alternatives which may result in decreased sales for
Harmonic. If existing sales were to then fall by 10% annually, Burns and Irvine would be in a lot of
trouble. The cash flow would become negative at year five and Burns and Irvine would either be
unable to purchase their equipment or would not be able to make sufficient payments on their loans
(Appendix E). In order to fulfill obligatory payments, they would be forced to postpone purchasing
equipment, cut costs in other areas, take a reduction in salary, etc. None of these options would be
advantageous to their profitability or happiness. Another scenario that could occur is that the delay of

The Mormon Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints
The Mormon religion was founded in the nineteenth century by a man named Joseph Smith. In 1890,
the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints banned the practice of polygamous marriages. As with
many religions, when a main practice is resolved it can cause some parishioners to be upset. Some
Mormons were not fond of the idea of dissolving the practice and moved to separate parts of the
country to continue the practice. The most well known polygamous branch was given the name the
Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. This group settled near the Arizona Utah
border (Andersen, 741). The group is mainly based in Colorado City and Hildale, Colorado (Urban,
62). The Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day ... Show more content on

The Sacred Canopy is even pushed with the religion of Mormonism. The official spokeswoman for the
Mormon Church, Kim Farah, wanted to make sure society understands that the Mormon Church does
not condone polygamous marriage. Farah stated, Polygamists cannot be Mormon. The Church of
Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints does not practice polygamy, and anyone found practicing polygamy
is excommunicated; therefore they are not members of our faith, (Cragun, Clingenpeel, Nielsen, 95).
The Mormon faith does not sympathize or recognize with the Fundamentalist Church of Latter Day
Saints as part of Mormonism, however since it started as a sect of the Mormon religion society sees
them as connected.
The main way they break the Sacred Canopy, and what they are most known for, is their use of
polygamous marriages. Fundamentalists believe that the more wives you have, the more power you
have. The second leader of the Mormon faith Brigham Young had fifty five wives (utlm.org). In our
society, it is accepted and expected that if a marriage is to be formed, it will be a monogamous
marriage and if one of the two wishes to marry another, a divorce would be served first. The concept
of plural marriage can confuse people, when you apply the concept into an actual marriage, it can
create a lot of controversy and tension with that group and the rest of society.
This tension with society and the Fundamentalist Church of Latter Day

Therefore, in this study, the relationship between training and job performance among academicians
will be testable to investigate the relationship between variables. Statement of The Problem The
implementation of training will result to the changes of job performance. Typically, in profits
organization, performance can be measure in many ways for example in term of financial can be refer
to the number of sales made by effective employees, and in term of operational is referred to the
employees effectiveness of solving problem or management effectives. (Safdar, Rehman, Waheed
amp; Rafiq, as cited in Curtis, et al. 1995). Training is also crucial to the employees as without an
adequate training, poorly trained employees may do not perform well in their job task and lead to poor
job performance (Robert amp; John 2004). Especially in education field, the institution is a non profits
organization. Springer, M., amp; Gardner, C., (2010) stated that, the performance measurement on
lecturer is different and more complex than the business profits worker for example, the number of
sale is can be calculate by how much the product have been sold to the customer. This is obviously
different because from the profession of teaching as they are providing services that is teaching and
mentoring their students, which also happens to be their clients. The academicians will give a

What Is The Theme In Sestina
Hidden between the thirty nine lines of Sestina, lay some major themes in literature. Even when the
September rain falls and in the failing light , the house is still a secure and warm place. But where is
this sense of comfort in Sestina? It appears that even though both the grandmother and the child are in
the chilly house, they are far apart from each other. She busies herself and tries to hide her emotions
while it draws in the other end of the kitchen. The grandmother s actions create a sense of secrecy and
hint that she hides something. Despite the brief moments of contact when showing the picture the
child drew, the two characters are mentally immersed in their own worlds. Another Bishop s poem that
deals with the theme of home ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She successfully creates a mournful tone by putting tears as one of the six final words. The mood is
led by feelings of sadness and sorrow. However, the reader does not know why. Bishop keeps this
sense of secrecy by revealing the grief but not the reason behind it. She uses visual imagery to
establish a simple, falsely harmonic domestic scene. The tension in the house is hidden behind the
silence in it. Bishop personifies the objects in the house to break it. Furthermore, the words of the
objects might clarify what is the reason for the grandmother s mood: It was to be. Says the Marvel
Stove. I know what I know, says the almanac. Apparently, something predetermined has happened
which relates to the theme of change, discussed in the previous section. This theme is closely related
to the role of the almanac. Its function is to predict the weather for the next year. Additionally, its
importance in the poem shows the role of the weather in the grandmother s life. The hanging almanac
is associated with a bird using the simile birdlike . The anaphora hovers suggests that it has control
over the child and the grandmother. Again, with the use of vivid language, Bishops includes the
almanac in the scene: the little moons fall down like tears/ from between the pages of the almanac .
The moons which resemble tears add up to the sense of sadness in the poem. Additionally, the

The Pregnancy Of The Fetal Heart Rate
As technology progresses, it has become more important in our daily lives. Obstetricians and hospital
s rely on technology more than ever to flag potential problems during pregnancy, labor, and delivery
(1). Continuous recording of the fetal heart rate come into being in the 1970 s and is likely a big
contributor to the increase in Caesarean sections(1). Continuous monitoring allows doctors to make a
decision on what birthing method should be used: natural birth or caesarean. The benefits of natural
birth outweigh the risks of a Caesarean section to mother and baby. Pregnancy occurs when a sperm
and egg unite, this is called conception. A zygote is created, in one week the zygote attaches itself on
the uterine wall, and in two weeks becomes an embryo. Week 10 of pregnancy the embryo turns into a
fetus. The fetus develops more and more for 28 weeks. Around 39 40 weeks, a woman can go into
labor. Labor is when the mother starts having contractions, and the baby s head starts dropping into the
cervix. The cervix dilates and thins out. As the cervix is fully dilated at 10 centimeters the mother
beings pushing. Vaginal birth entails less discomfort after delivery (9). Vaginal birth babies can go
home with their babies sooner (9). Vaginal births take roughly one or two weeks for recovery (1).
During natural birth the baby gets a squeeze. This forces mucus and fluid out of the baby s airway.
With the Caesarean, the baby does not get the beneficial squeeze like vaginal

The Metamorphosis of Bertha in Katherine Mansfield s Bliss
Katherine Mansfield s Bliss is quite an interesting story full of underlying meanings and themes. Upon
a first reading, it seems to be a simple story of a woman who feels uncontainable bliss one day, only to
have it end when she discovers her husband is having an affair. Although this is a correct
interpretation, after a second reading, much more is apparent. Bliss is a story of the revelation of a

Could this awry feeling be coming from an unexpected extramarital affair in which Bertha s
significant other is involved? The audience s first glimpse at the affair that Harry, Bertha s husband, is
having may come when he phones home to say he will be late for their dinner party. He gives no
reasons for his tardiness, and his delayed arrival coincides with Miss Fulton s overdue entrance. Could
they have had a possible rendezvous before the dinner party? It is quite feasible.
It is also at this same time that the reader becomes aware of Bertha s yearning for her husband. It is

brimming with life, she wants to reach out and share it with someone. She tries to share it with her

Bertha has trouble expressing these new feelings to others. The nanny is angry when Bertha wants to

What is research method? As a matter of fact, according to Saundra et al. (2003), the term method in

technological adoption, most of the research undertaken deals with this in the context of individual
consumers rather than at a firm level. Furthermore, in the case of wearable technology, the main case
study of this particular research, as a current example of a radical technological innovation, there is a
lack of breadth in terms of the literature available, which can be expected from its relative infancy.
Therefore, this literature review will serve as a treatise to not only critically analyse the seminal
research in the broader field of technological innovation and adoption, but also to extrapolate the
information gathered in the context of my own research, to provide a fresh insight on technological
adoption at an organisational level, with a special interest in the future of wearable technology at this
level.
2.1.1 What is technological innovation?
According to Sagar (2013) Technology innovation is the process through which new technologies are
developed and brought into widespread use. Typically in literature, a distinction will be made between
the different types of innovation. The type of innovation mentioned in this research, will refer to
product innovation, as wearable technology

Restorative Justice Principles
Restorative justice is based on the principle that criminal behavior injures not only the victim but also
the community and the offender, and any effort to resolve these problems caused by criminal behavior
should involve all of these parties. Common restorative justice initiatives are victim offender
mediation, circle sentencing, community holistic healing programs, and family group conferences. A
key to all these responses to criminal behavior is to address not only the offender, but all parties
involved including the victim and their families, offender s family, community citizens, and even the
police officers themselves.
There are four core principles of restorative justice. Firstly the crime must violate people and
relationships. Restorative justice does not only view crimes as law breaking, rather the justice views it
as damaging to people, their properties, relationships, and communities. Secondly, justice aims to
identify needs and obligations so that things ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It involves all of the participants including the judge, defense lawyer, prosecutor, police, victim and
family, offender and family, and also the community citizens sitting and facing each other in a circle.
The discussions in the circle are intended to reach an agreement on the desirable dispose of the case.
The process takes in account the need to protect the community, as well as the punishment and
rehabilitation of the offender. Circle sentencing is generally only available to those who plead guilty.
Offenders may be sent for a period of incarceration, but other sanctions are available. These include
house arrest, banishment, and community service. Circle sentencing has the potential to reacquaint
individuals, families and communities with problem solving skills, rebuild relationships, promote
awareness and respect, coordinate use of government resources, use and create healing resources,
address needs of all parties, and focus on

Comparison Of Doxorubicin And BV
There is no cure for HIV, but there are treatments to enable most people with the virus to live a long
and healthy life.
If anyone think he has been exposed to the virus within the last 72 hours (three days), anti HIV
medication post exposure prophylaxis may stop him becoming infected.
The quicker PEP is started the better The longer the wait, the less chance of it being effective. But the
description is not accurate. PEP is a month long treatment, which has serious side effects and is not
guaranteed to work. The treatment involves taking the same drugs prescribed to people who have
tested positive for HIV.
If you are diagnosed with HIV, you will have regular blood tests to monitor the progress of the virus
before starting treatment.

Cytotoxic chemotherapy is frequently required for the more severe manifestations of human
immunodeficiency virus (HIV) related Kaposi s sarcoma. Combinations of bleomycin and vincristine

which new treatments may be compared. We report a multicenter phase III study that compared
pegylated liposomal doxorubicin (PLD) to the BV combination. on other hand in other studies Food
insecurity, micronutrient deficits, dyslipidemia, insulin resistance, obesity, cardiovascular disease, and
bone disorders complicate the treatment of HIV infection. Nutrition and exercise interventions can be
effective in ameliorating these symptoms that are associated with HIV and antiretroviral therapy
(ART). In this literature review, we examine the most recent nutrition and exercise interventions for
HIV infected patients. Macronutrient supplementation can be useful in treating malnutrition and
wasting. Multivitamin (vitamin B complex, vitamin C, and vitamin E) supplements and vitamin D
may improve quality of life and decrease morbidity and mortality. Nutritional counseling and exercise
interventions are effective for treating obesity, fat redistribution, and metabolic abnormalities. Physical
activity interventions improve body composition, strength, and fitness in HIV infected individuals.

St Valentine s Day Massacre Research Paper
Crime, murder, and gangs were taking a hold of Chicago and one defining moment shocked everyone.
Two gangs, the Italian Sicilian mob and the Irish Jewish crew, had high tensions leading to many
confrontations. But the problems between the two seemed to stop after the St. Valentine s Day
Massacre on February 14, 1929. Then, the hunt for those responsible started. The crime itself involved
many people, killed many people, and even had effects after the crime. There were many well known
people of Chicago in the two groups and high tensions between gangs that would eventually lead up to
the St. Valentine s Day Massacre. The two gangs, the Italian Sicilian mob and the Irish Jewish crew,
had many confrontations but one stood out. Dion O´Banion, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Moran and his gang after the attack, had been able to hold their territory for some time, but never
really came back from the massacre ( Feb. 2). Moran s gang had also lost a lot of strength and power
in Chicago in a short time (Benson, 1). One of the surviving victims, Frank Gusenberg, could have put
the case to rest, serving those responsible, but when asked who shot him, he said, No one shot me ,
and the case was left unsolved when Gusenberg later died from his wounds ( Saint 1). The two leaders
of the attack, were the ones with the strongest alibis. Al Capone and McGurn were not charged for the
crime and seemed to be free, but one gunman, Fred Burke, was arrested for the murder of a police
officer and not for the crime (Rosenberg, 3). Although Capone was not arrested for the crime, it did
put him on the federal government s radar and they had him arrested in 1931 for tax evasion
(Rosenberg, 4). McGurn did not fare well either. One day, after the seventh anniversary of the
massacre, he was gunned down in a bowling alley, ending his career (Rosenberg, 4). The massacre
was however, the last time Capone and Moran interfered with each other. This was because Bugs was
arrested in 1946 for small time robberies and later died in jail from lung cancer. Furthermore, Capone
was arrested in 1931 ( Valentine s 2). Even though many thought they knew who ordered the attack,

Sovereign States must Take and Active Role in Global...
By simply interpreting the definition, middle powers are sovereign states that are not super powers or
great powers in the field of international relations, but still have moderate or significant influence than
small powers and have international recognition by other states. After the Second World War, global
society became starting to be aware of the fact that there was a need for middle powers, not so directly
engaged in global economics and politics, to act as intermediary in global governance. With rapid
globalization process among various sectors and many states, the global society has become more
interconnected and interdependent ever in terms of facing global problems as wells as regional ones.
Also with the current international relations, sovereign states as middle powers, they reflect the
tendency to compromise, coordinate, and cooperate in order to maintain their national interests, status
quo Jeffrey Robertson, South Korea as a Middle Power: capacity, Behavior, and Now Opportunity,
KINU, vol. 16, No. 1 (2007):. 151 174.
. Such current trend encourages certain sovereign states to take active roles in global governance these
days, and as middle powers they would try to find their voice in international community. This paper
is to examine how middle powers play in current global governance, based on middle power theories.
What is a Middle Power? Originating from the European state system in the late 16th century,

Defining Abnormality With Consideration of Cultural...
Defining Abnormality With Consideration of Cultural Differences
Cultural differences are always a problem when defining abnormality. What one would consider
completely normal in one culture would be considered abnormal in another, for example the island of
Java often set fire to a ball soaked in petrol and then play football with it. Here that would be
considered wrong and abnormal but is an everyday occurrence for the people of Java. This concept
doesn t only apply to eastern cultures; the English could be defined as abnormal by other cultures
definitions, even by other western societies e.g. it would not be considered normal by the Italians to
wait at a red light when there are no other cars ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When using this approach to define abnormality you would first have to consider what is normal
behaviour for that particular culture otherwise a person could be incorrectly diagnosed as abnormal.
Cultural differences are also a problem for the Failure to Function Adequately definition of
abnormality. This classification of abnormality involves a person who conforms to their 7
characteristics of the abnormal as having ill mental health. Examples of these characteristics are
vividness, unconventionality and observer discomfort. This definition does not state the extent of the
characteristic in order for it to be abnormal, for example we could class the Native Americans who
perform the sun dance (a ritual which involves ripping ropes out of the chests of dancers) as abnormal
as we would experience discomfort from watching this behaviour, whilst Native Americans take great
joy in this activity and it us used as part of their celebrations.
Other attempts to define abnormality are also limited by cultural differences, for example the DSM
refers only to disorders found in westerners, it does not mention culture bound syndromes, for
example Koro which is found solely in South East Asia and Pibloqtoq which occurs mainly in cold
climates e.g. Greenland Alaska and the Canadian Arctic. Many disorders in the DSM are specific only
to western society;

Most drilled massive sulfide deposits and iron formation layers occur near the top of the volcanic pile
and overly the flanks of the LLIC. Felsic rocks underlying massive sulfide deposits in the top of the
volcanic pile are FI and FII types. Rocks with a magnetic signature similar to known massive sulfide
deposits occur down section and over the center of the LLIC. These rocks are interpreted as having the
highest potential for hosting Au rich VMS deposits. Mafic rocks of the Oaks Intrusion (OI) occur in
the eastern part of the belt and have been dated at 2671±8 Ma (Keatts et al, 2003). Likely time

Patrick Suskind Essay
Oppositional structures in the postmodern world of Perfume masks the truth and exposes the lies.
Through many literary devices and religious elements, the author Patrick Suskind employs
postmodern messages. The use of postmodernist mockery exposes the lies, and the enlightenment era
characteristics mask the truth. Enlightenment and romantic era characteristics also preserve styles
from the era in which the novel takes place: mid to late 1700 s. Suskind hides the truth internally,
within the knowledge of the narrator and exposes the lies to a relevant audience to convince the reader
to diminish conventional values. Characteristics of enlightenment and romantic era literature include

represents the church and immediately rejects a testament. Grenouille later confirms his condemnation

because he was evil thoroughly evil (156). This portrays the lie of the church which reflects on

Ethical Issues in the Film Erin Brockovich
The movie Erin Brockovich is based on actual events involving a corporate business called Pacific
Gas Electric who knowingly endangering the health of residents and the water supply in the town of
Hinkley. Erin is the mother of three children who is out of work. In the midst of her job search she got
into an auto accident and was injured. Erin has an ethical and moral responsibility to feed her children
so she forces her lawyer Ed Masry to give her a secretarial job after he failed to get her a settlement
from the auto accident. Erin has difficulty fitting in at the firm, the other female co workers do not
approve of her attire or her cleavage! The women in the office do not include Erin or help her out
when she asks for assistance. Erin stumbles across a case file about real estate which confuses her
because it contained medical records. She got curious about the case and asked permission from her
boss to work on it. This is the first ethical issue that comes up because she is not a lawyer and should
not investigate the case without the proper legal experience.
During Erin s discovery of the facts of the case we begin to see the breakdown of the ethical values of
PG E. The dramatization focuses on the deception that PG E has cast over the inhabitants of Hinkley,
California. For years, the company has been polluting the environment with a known deadly toxin,
Chromium six. The toxin seeped into natural underground water reservoirs then into the unsuspecting

Invasive Species Threatens The Ecosystem
Invasive Species Threatens the Ecosystem Every life form all over the world depends on the
ecosystem for its survival. However, the ecosystem can be threatened when there is an excess or drop
in resources. Many people will argue that human beings are the primary cause of this economic
imbalance but are people the root of this problem? No. There is evidence that invasive species all over
the country has also threatened our ecosystem. Invasive species are any living organism such a plants,
fungus, insects, and fish just to name a few. Invasive species pose a threat to wildlife in many ways. (
National Wildlife Federation, 2009) states species brought into an atmosphere that doesn t have any
predators are considered dangerous. They often breed and spread rapidly, assuming control over a
region. Local untamed life has no advanced safeguards against the trespasser, and they stand no
chance against species that has no predators (p.2). Furthermore, these species invade areas that they
aren t indigenous to and reproduce quickly. To further understand the underlying crux of invasive
species and how this matter may come to fruition, I will provide an analogy of an article that addresses
this problem, by summarizing and identifying the negative impact invasive species have on the
ecosystem. Today, some may say that human beings are the reason invasive species prevail. According
to Bright (1999), Obtrusive species are being transported through the worldwide

Hate Crime in the United States of America
Hate Crime in the United States of America THESIS: In this research paper, information will be given
on hate crime in the United States of America. It s best to know about these types of crimes before it s
too late because it s rarely reported or spoken about but does occur on regular bases. Hate crime didn t
come about until the early 1980 s. It s sad how these types of crimes still occur so many years later;
there are innocent people who are attacked simply because of their race, religion or sexual orientation.
Based on the articles, hate crime in the USA is very common and the chances to be a victim are high
enough. Hate crimes are ignorant and pointless, they need to be stopped.Done to many different

They also occur because of the failure to understand that there are differences between people and
their traditions. Often times, people feel intimidated by people who speak a different language. They
don t know what they re saying, maybe they re talking about them, and they may also feel jealous
because of it. People may commit hate crimes against immigrants because they feel like they re taking
jobs away from the American people and feel like they shouldn t be in America because it isn t their
original country. Another reason people commit crimes against immigrants is because they feel that
they get assistance from the government that Americans don t. Some American people also don t want
the immigrants to mix in with their race or in American society period. Offenders of hate crimes just
like the thrill of committing a crime on someone of a group they don t like. Other offenders who truly
dislike another race will continue to commit these crimes against them until they are caught by
authority. In some cases, being a victim of a hate crime is the reason it s committed. Some victims feel
threatened by the race that they were attacked by. Some of the victims just want revenge from the
group that they were attacked by.Offender age range and top citiesHate crimes are mostly done by
young people between the ages of 15 and 24 years old. In some cases, offenders may even go up to
being 26 years of age. The main states in the United States where hate

She busies herself and tries to hide her emotions while it draws in the other end of the kitchen. The grandmother s actions create a sense of secrecy and hint that she hides something. Obstetricians and hospital s rely on technology more than ever to flag potential problems during pregnancy, labor, and delivery (1). Continuous recording of the fetal heart rate come into being in the 1970 s and is likely a big contributor to the increase in Caesarean sections(1). Continuous monitoring allows doctors to make a decision on what birthing method should be used: natural birth or caesarean. The benefits of natural birth outweigh the risks of a Caesarean section to mother and baby. Pregnancy occurs when a sperm and egg unite, this is called conception. A zygote is created, in one week the zygote attaches itself on the uterine wall, and in two weeks becomes an embryo. Week 10 of pregnancy the embryo turns into a fetus. The fetus develops more and more for 28 weeks. Around 39 40 weeks, a woman can go into labor. Labor is when the mother starts having contractions, and the baby s head starts dropping into the cervix. The cervix dilates and thins out. As the cervix is fully dilated at 10 centimeters the mother beings pushing. Vaginal birth entails less discomfort after delivery (9). Vaginal birth babies can go home with their babies sooner (9). Vaginal births take roughly one or two weeks for recovery (1). During natural birth the baby gets a squeeze. What are the main factors that influence technology adoption in an organisation? Does wearable technology have a sustainable future within organisations? Research Objectives: This dissertation aims to elucidate the critical factors that pertain to widespread technology adoption in organisations, with regards to radical IT innovations, whilst also highlighting the issues that stymie technology adoption. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Failed investments in technology may not only cause financial losses, but also lead to dissatisfaction amongst employees (Venkatesh, 2000). Whilst, there exists a large amount of literature on technological adoption, most of the research undertaken deals with this in the context of individual consumers rather than at a firm level. Furthermore, in the case of wearable technology, the main case study of this particular research, as a current example of a radical technological innovation, there is a lack of breadth in terms of the literature available, which can be expected from its relative infancy. Therefore, this literature review will serve as a treatise to not only critically analyse the seminal research in the broader field of technological innovation and adoption, but also to extrapolate the information gathered in the context of my own research, to provide a fresh insight on technological adoption at an organisational level, with a special interest in the future of wearable technology at this level. 2.1.1 What is technological innovation? According to Sagar (2013) Technology innovation is the process through which new technologies are developed and brought into widespread use. Typically in literature, a distinction will be made between the different types of innovation. The type of innovation mentioned in this research, will refer to product innovation, as wearable technology ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 21. Restorative Justice Principles Restorative justice is based on the principle that criminal behavior injures not only the victim but also the community and the offender, and any effort to resolve these problems caused by criminal behavior should involve all of these parties. Common restorative justice initiatives are victim offender mediation, circle sentencing, community holistic healing programs, and family group conferences. A key to all these responses to criminal behavior is to address not only the offender, but all parties involved including the victim and their families, offender s family, community citizens, and even the police officers themselves. There are four core principles of restorative justice. Firstly the crime must violate people and relationships. Restorative justice does not only view crimes as law breaking, rather the justice views it as damaging to people, their properties, relationships, and communities. Two gangs, the Italian Sicilian mob and the Irish Jewish crew, had high tensions leading to many confrontations. But the problems between the two seemed to stop after the St. Valentine s Day Massacre on February 14, 1929. Then, the hunt for those responsible started. The crime itself involved many people, killed many people, and even had effects after the crime. Moran and his gang after the attack, had been able to hold their territory for some time, but never really came back from the massacre ( Feb. 2). Moran s gang had also lost a lot of strength and power in Chicago in a short time (Benson, 1). One of the surviving victims, Frank Gusenberg, could have put the case to rest, serving those responsible, but when asked who shot him, he said, No one shot me , and the case was left unsolved when Gusenberg later died from his wounds ( Saint 1). The two leaders of the attack, were the ones with the strongest alibis. Al Capone and McGurn were not charged for the crime and seemed to be free, but one gunman, Fred Burke, was arrested for the murder of a police officer and not for the crime (Rosenberg, 3). Although Capone was not arrested for the crime, it did put him on the federal government s radar and they had him arrested in 1931 for tax evasion (Rosenberg, 4). McGurn did not fare well either. One day, after the seventh anniversary of the massacre, he was gunned down in a bowling alley, ending his career (Rosenberg, 4). The massacre was however, the last time Capone and Moran interfered with each other. This was because Bugs was arrested in 1946 for small time robberies and later died in jail from lung cancer. By simply interpreting the definition, middle powers are sovereign states that are not super powers or great powers in the field of international relations, but still have moderate or significant influence than small powers and have international recognition by other states. After the Second World War, global society became starting to be aware of the fact that there was a need for middle powers, not so directly engaged in global economics and politics, to act as intermediary in global governance. With rapid globalization process among various sectors and many states, the global society has become more interconnected and interdependent ever in terms of facing global problems as wells as regional ones. Also with the current international relations, sovereign states as middle powers, they reflect the tendency to compromise, coordinate, and cooperate in order to maintain their national interests, status quo Jeffrey Robertson, South Korea as a Middle Power: capacity, Behavior, and Now Opportunity, KINU, vol. 16, No. 1 (2007):. 151 174. . • 27. Defining Abnormality With Consideration of Cultural... Defining Abnormality With Consideration of Cultural Differences Cultural differences are always a problem when defining abnormality. What one would consider completely normal in one culture would be considered abnormal in another, for example the island of Java often set fire to a ball soaked in petrol and then play football with it. Here that would be considered wrong and abnormal but is an everyday occurrence for the people of Java. This concept doesn t only apply to eastern cultures; the English could be defined as abnormal by other cultures definitions, even by other western societies e.g. it would not be considered normal by the Italians to wait at a red light when there are no other cars ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When using this approach to define abnormality you would first have to consider what is normal behaviour for that particular culture otherwise a person could be incorrectly diagnosed as abnormal. Cultural differences are also a problem for the Failure to Function Adequately definition of abnormality. This classification of abnormality involves a person who conforms to their 7 characteristics of the abnormal as having ill mental health. Examples of these characteristics are vividness, unconventionality and observer discomfort. This definition does not state the extent of the characteristic in order for it to be abnormal, for example we could class the Native Americans who perform the sun dance (a ritual which involves ripping ropes out of the chests of dancers) as abnormal as we would experience discomfort from watching this behaviour, whilst Native Americans take great joy in this activity and it us used as part of their celebrations. Other attempts to define abnormality are also limited by cultural differences, for example the DSM refers only to disorders found in westerners, it does not mention culture bound syndromes, for example Koro which is found solely in South East Asia and Pibloqtoq which occurs mainly in cold climates e.g. Greenland Alaska and the Canadian Arctic. Many disorders in the DSM are specific only to western society; ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, the ecosystem can be threatened when there is an excess or drop in resources. Many people will argue that human beings are the primary cause of this economic imbalance but are people the root of this problem? No. There is evidence that invasive species all over the country has also threatened our ecosystem. Invasive species are any living organism such a plants, fungus, insects, and fish just to name a few. Invasive species pose a threat to wildlife in many ways. ( National Wildlife Federation, 2009) states species brought into an atmosphere that doesn t have any predators are considered dangerous. They often breed and spread rapidly, assuming control over a region. Local untamed life has no advanced safeguards against the trespasser, and they stand no chance against species that has no predators (p.2). Furthermore, these species invade areas that they aren t indigenous to and reproduce quickly. To further understand the underlying crux of invasive species and how this matter may come to fruition, I will provide an analogy of an article that addresses this problem, by summarizing and identifying the negative impact invasive species have on the ecosystem. Today, some may say that human beings are the reason invasive species prevail. According to Bright (1999), Obtrusive species are being transported through the worldwide ...
