Cognitive Behavior Therapy And Mental Therapy
The cognitive behavior therapy initially treated depression, but extensive research has demonstrated
that cognitive behavior therapy works to treat many other psychiatric disorders (Corey p.307). For
example, phobias, eating disorders, anxiety, panic disorders, borderline personality, posttraumatic
stress disorder etc. Additionally, there is evidence from neuroimaging research that CT therapy
reduces the activity in the amygdalohippocampal subcortical region and increase the activity in the
frontal cortical regions. Where they show the activation of schema (irrational thoughts) and the
cognitive control of emotions. Meaning that CT produces symptom relief in depression and anxiety by
modifying biased data processing and disturbance schema stimulation (Clark, Beck, 2010).The study
of Peris, Compton, Kendall, Birmaher, Sherrill, March, and Piacentini, (2014) demonstrated that youth
suffering from anxiety were treated using cognitive behavior therapies resulting in significant
improvement on the overall measure of anxiety symptom severity and global functioning. Also, the
findings on the study support the idea that changes in maladaptive or irrational thinking help to reduce
anxiety. In this study, youth were introduced to the practice of cognitive restructuring which enhanced
improvements in anxiety. Also, the present study supports the merits of exposure techniques across
both overall anxiety symptom severity and global functioning. The introduction of exposures

How Marketers And Marketers Influence The Creation Of The...
In a world of consumerism, children represent a giant portion of an important demographic to
marketers because of their purchasing power. They greatly influence their parents buying decisions
and are the consumers of the future. Since children have this advantage, advertisers know that they
should be a main target. Advertising was created to influence the creation of the consumer. This
method became a revolutionary development. The advertisers goal was to cater to the consumers
wants and desires. Although the advertisers used what they knew from the consumer to shape their
wants to create in commodities. Marketers and advertisers use several tactics such as promotion,
positioning, brand voice, demographic segmentation, narrowcasting, ... Show more content on

Marketers use the immense emotional attachment children have to their advantage. Marketers are well
aware of the children s favorites, they use that knowledge to keep generating money by catering the
products to the children s interests. This tactic becomes very dishonest. It is marketing products by
using social aspect that can affect one s behavior rather than highlighting the products actual features.
It encourages buyers to purchase products for their personal gain, instead of the actual use of the
product. For example, when a child watches Barney and Friends it does not insinuate that this child is
more intelligent than a child who does not watch it. Although, since children start watching these
kinds of shows at such a young age, it can damage their attention span causing it to not be as attentive
as one who does not partake in watching shows that are solely for entertainment. Going on, a major
issue between advertised brand names and unadvertised brand names starts to create a structural issue
that does not just stay within children it even extends to the older buyers. It is perceived that
advertised brand names are more effective than generic brands. To be effective in the United States as
a consumer, a child should be able to differentiate the real benefits of a product, rather than just
focusing on the aesthetic of a

Racial Stacking in Football
Social Constructs Behind Racial Stacking and Stereotypes in Football
Sport as an institution has seen many of its records and barriers shattered over its countless years of
existence. For instance, sport has seen Jackie Robinson break the color barrier in Major League
Baseball, and Billie Jean King defeat former champion Bobby Riggs in The battle of the sexes . One
barrier that still exists in sports today is racial stacking and stereotyping. The social phenomenon of
racial stacking and stereotyping within the institution of sport has profoundly hindered the
development and participation of particular races in different dimensions of sport. Racial stacking is a
term coined by sociologists which refers to the over or under representation ... Show more content on

Speculations arose as to Owens having an extra bone in his leg, or elongated bones, all of which were
proven to be false. Scientist found that biology was not a determinant in an individual s ability to excel
in sports; rather dedication, determination, and training are more influential factors (Dyreson, 2008).
One socioligical explanation as to why African Americans excel in athletics is because it is viewed as
a way of upward social and financial mobility. Being one of the world s largest institutions, sports
generate billions of dollars in revenue each year. Specifically, the National Football League generates
six billion dollars in revenue a year (Sports Industry Overview, 2009). The life of an NFL player is
filled with fame, fortune and limitless opportunites, something that the majority of young children
dream about. The reason we see more African Americans succeeding in sports is because they have
limited resources and opportunities for upward social mobility elsewhere. With the poverty rate
among African Americans so high (24.7 %) they often do not have the resources to excel in education
so instead they look to sports as a way of socio economic advancement (Bureau, Poverty, 2009).
Sports sociologist Harry Edwards defines this concept of black youth using sports as a way of social
mobility as blind faith . Edwards explains three reasons as to why black families push their

The Most Memorable Writing Experience
Most Memorable Writing Experience: My Reflection on Writing I have been writing since I have been
in Middle School. I have realized that by college it was easier for me to write down my thoughts in
order for me to remember what I have said or done. Writing out my thoughts gives me a sense of
recollection, knowledge, and pacification that gets me through my day. I pictured writing to be as
simple as jotting down a few sentences, but as I got farther in school I realized that there is more to it
than just writing sentences. English has been my most difficult subject I have ever endured, but I have
somehow been managing to make excellent grades and achieving all requirements. First in the essay, I
will discuss my experiences in the English life that I ve taken so far up until college. The second part
will list my struggles in creating a thesis, a work cited, and properly citing my sources used in the
papers. My experience with English has changed drastically from middle school to college. Being in
middle school I have really had to do much of a big paper, but as I progressed through college I ve
realized there much more that has to be added. I had always wondered why middle school was so easy
but as years went on, I realized that advancing to college there s a lot more requirements and
importance to writing. In middle school, I was young and just starting to really realize what an essay
was and after high school I really understood what an essay consists of. No matter how

Social And Political Reactions To Mormon Polygamy Essay
We are a peculiar people, Elder Bruce R. McConkie once said (McConkie 25). The Church of Jesus
Christ of Latter day Saints is one of a few odd Christian religions. Many of its practices have created
much persecution and political reaction, polygamy being one of these. It created much social and
political persecution of the Mormons.
Most of this persecution had come from anti polygamist Christians. This is ironic because the anti
polygamists believed in the Bible, but not polygamy, one of its teachings. Many of God s righteous
followers in the Old Testament practiced polygamy. Abraham married Hagar, Sarai s handmaiden
(Genesis 16:1 3). Jacob was married to Leah, Rachel, Billah, and Zilpha all at the same time. In the

When questioned, they confessed to the act, but from then on they hid it from the Gentiles (Newell 66

Social persecution quickly turned into political persecution. On October 30, 1838, Governor Lilburn
Boggs issued the Extermination Order in which he wrote that the Mormons must be treated as enemies
and must be exterminated or driven from the state, if necessary, for the public good. (Benton 787) A
few days later at Haun s Mill, 17 Mormons were killed and many others, including women and
children, were severely wounded (Benton787). In October 1838, the Missouri state militia was
marching toward the Saints in Kirtland, Ohio:
Anxious to avoid bloodshed, Joseph Smith, Sidney Rigdon, Parley P. Pratt, Lyman White and George
Robinson went to negotiate with state officials under the flag of truce. Instead of treating the group
with respect, however, militia officials seized the group. An order was issued to have Joseph and the
others shot, but Colonel Alexander Doniphan, a secondary Missouri officer, courageously refused to
carry out the order. Instead of court martial and execution, the prisoners were taken on November 2 to
Jackson County for Prison and trial. (Arrington JS32)
After spending six months in prison, the group escaped with the help of the jailer (Arrington JS 32).
Joseph then purchased a large amount of land in Jackson county,

Southern Patagonian Ice Field Essay
The Patagonian Ice Field stretches from the Argentine lakes to the Chilean fjords. The northern part of
the ice cap is entirely in Chile while the southern ice cap is shared by both Argentina and Chile. It is
made up of around forty seven glaciers that are formed at high altitudes. The glacier covers around
16,800 km² (6,800 mi²) (Willis). It stretches across the southern Andes, measuring nearly 220 miles
(355 km) long and 30 miles (48 km) wide. The remaining ice is from the previous Ice Age,(18,000
17,500 years ago) (Jacob). During this time all of southern Chile and Argentina was covered in a thick
sheet of ice. The ice field is considered by some to be the eighth wonder of the world. At one point the
glacier was advancing at around two meters per day, but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The glacier is split up into the Southern and Northern Patagonia ice field. The Patagonia Ice fields are
very unique because they are able to exist today because of their extraordinary and specific location.
They are unique in the sense that they are at a high elevation and the climate they are in is cool and
moist (Rivera, Benham, Casassa, Bamber, Dowdeswell).. The Southern Patagonian Ice Field is highly
important to scientists and geologists at the moment because there are two volcanoes called Lautaro
and Viedma hidden under it. Little to nothing is known about this volcano because it is in such a
remote location hidden underneath the glacier, making it very hard to access. The imposing ice mass is
surrounded by forests and mountains, which contributes to it being one of the most visited attractions
in Chile and Argentina. It is also one of the most accessible glaciers in the world making it a big
attraction for most tourists and visitors. The glacier see s its most visitors when the glacier is about to

Tale Of The Cave Analysis
The cave was a very interesting story but it was also confusing all at the same time. The cave was
about prisoners being trapped in a cave all there lives. The one question i am going to talk about is
what the prisoners thought was true. In the story it s states that the prisoners thought the Shadows
were real but in all honesty they were just the Shadows of the human beings outside of the world. The
prisoners were chained up on the wall and all they could see we re a little light and the shadows of of
the people. The prisoners had lived there all their life and had never seen the outside world. They
barely could move their arms and hands due to being chained up. If I was in their situation I would try

Images are More Powerful than Words
The American Heritage College Dictionary defines the term image as An optically or electronically
formed representative reproduction of an object, esp. an optical reproduction formed by a lens or a
mirror. This is what is more commonly referred to as a picture. The definition of a word is a sound or
combination of sounds, or its representation in writing or printing that symbolizes and communicates a
meaning and may consist of a single morpheme or a combination of morphemes. In fact, there is a
constant debate about the importance and significance of both forms of communication. Because
either one can be interpreted and considered differently, depending on who the viewer or reader is, ...

Even though both the tour guide and a pamphlet told everyone exactly what the organization s purpose
was, the Mural actually said more than needed to be said, without the aid of any words. One can agree
with Mitchell Stephens statement in By Means of the Visible: A Picture s Worth that certain pictures
can put most sentences to shame (486), because the images illustrated in this Mural put, every single
word that was written in the UN pamphlet or spoken by the tour guide, to shame. They gave a deeper
and more spiritual meaning, that went above and beyond the mere one dimensional meaning, of the
words used, both written and spoken.

sugar) levels are above normal ( Diabetes Basics, 2007). This can lead to a range of serious health
consequences, including vision loss, nerve damage and numbness, high blood pressure, kidney
disease, heart disease and death (DiNapoli, 2015). Diabetes is a growing epidemic in New York City
among all age group but has grown significantly over the years among adults especially African
American and other minority groups. In 2007, data report from the New York City Health Department
reported that diabetes was higher in NYC than in the U.S. overall (9.1% vs 7.5%). (NYC health data).
The report concentrated on the 5 zip codes that make up Bedford Stuyvesant. The data was taken from
several secondary sources including CDC.

In 12th July, 2013, there are appeared expropriations of farmland in Tibet s Amdo Province.
According to Tibetan Centre for Human Rights and Democracy (TCHRD), China appropriates Tibetan

occurs when a public agency (for example, the provincial government and its agencies, regional

Tap Film Analysis

HIST1042
June 22nd 2017
Assignment #4 Topic 1
By 1984 Rock and Roll music was going through a changing phase. From break ups, tragic deaths due
to drugs and dangerous lifestyles, unnecessarily long and obnoxious solo performances, and overly
loud and unnecessary amps that almost sounded like they were going all the way to 11 instead of 10. It
seemed that Rock and Roll was dying out or becoming oversaturated as a musical genre. It is in this
environment that the movie This is Spinal Tap bases itself in.
This is Spinal Tap is a 1984 mock documentary or mockumentary about a fictitious band named
Spinal Tap. The movie is told from the interviewing perspective of director Rob Reiner as he
interviews and follows the British band for their United States concert tour for their new album, Smell
My Glove . Throughout the film and tour, almost everything seems to be going wrong for the band.
From drops in concert attendance, issues releasing their album cover due to controversial imagery,
sudden changes in management, and the general childish behaviour of the band holding them back.
The film pokes fun at the many real life rock stars and bands that existed at the time; including Yes,
Early Genesis, Ritchie Blackmore, The Beatles, Dee Snider, Led Zeppelin etc., and how the media and
society viewed them during this era. It shows how society viewed Rock Stars as larger than life idols,
often overlooking their obvious flaws until it catches up to them; and contrasts it

transplantation involves replacing the organs that have failed in their functions. The lives of many
people, including children, has been prolonged when organ transplantation was performed
successfully. Organ transplantation has become a major public health issue in the United States due to
its attributable death rate and to its excessive cost. The number of organs which are offered for
transplantation is limited. Hence, there is a waiting list for receiving the organs. For example, during
the last decade in the United States, the available kidneys for transplantation were 11,000 per year

Analysis Of Still Life With A Skull And A Writing Quill
The Netherlands in the Seventeenth Century was the home of many famous artists, most notably
Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn, but also many lesser known artists such as Pieter Claesz.. Pieter
Claesz was born in 1597 in Berchem (near Antwerp) Claesz moved to Haarlem in 1620 and lived there
till his death in 1660. He is most associated with the Flemish and Dutch still life tradition and still lifes
make up a vast majority of his work. His 1628 painting Still Life with a Skull and a Writing Quill is a
prime example of the Still Life style called Vanitas, so named as the artist would attempt to display the
vanity of materialism.
As the name suggests the skull instantly draws the eye, the hollow face of the skull is in the center of
the oil on wood painting. The skull extends to the right where one sees an empty glass on its side
resting at an angle to the skull. The glass is reflecting light along its curve but does not give one an
actual reflection. Beneath both the skull and glass is a book and a sheaf of papers in a portfolio. The
book s binding is brown and the pages are yellowing, whereas the papers in the moss green portfolio
are a contrasting white. The presence of paper fits with the other object in the title the writing quill,
whose feather rests on the book and sheaf. The head of the quill points to the right of the painting
where it rests on an overturned ink well. In the background of this painting smoke is rising off a
recently extinguished oil lamp, partially in

Engel V Vitale
Since the year of 1962 many events have taken place; President Kennedy s assassination in 1963,
Civil Rights Act of 1964, and Voting Rights Act of 1965. One noteworthy event that changed the law
system of America is the court case of Engel V. Vitale. Since the Warren court found that Religion in
public schools broke a clause in the First Amendment, the Supreme court decided that schools that are
based on a religious system were to stop. Many thought that this landmark decision was going to
damage their freedom of religion but it actually kept their freedom safe. This decision also started the

Importance Of Religion In The Decameron
There are patterns throughout history that relate to health and religion. Conversations about death or
healing due to disease revolves around religion. It is widely used as a coping mechanism for those
impacted by death and disease. From worshiping a god or goddess that controls disease to conducting
healing ceremonies, to even just praying to be cured of the disease, religious practices are evident
when a disease is involved. Analyzing Giovanni Boccaccio s The Decameron gives us an idea of how
life was at the time of the plague along with how religion influenced people s lives at the time of
disease. In The Decameron, three men and seven women run off together in order to escape the plague
that is destroying their city. These ten people find sanctuary in a secluded villa on the outskirts of
Florence. Once there, they determine that they will assign one male and one female the role of king
and queen for a day. As king and queen, it is their responsibility to ensure everyone says entertained
and they all do not go mad. As a result of this, each of the ten people tells stories to keep each other
entertained and to distract their minds from the destruction the Black Death is causing. These stories
consisted of tales of love, life lessons, and even tragedies. However, a majority of the stories, if not all
of them, have underlying religious values. They use these religious ties to keep them grounded in
something familiar and safe in their lives while their world is crumbling

The Evaporation Race

The Evaporation Race
When it rains, puddles of water are often left behind, but it starts to disappear after just a few hours.
What is happening? This is called evaporation. Evaporation is a very common natural process that
occurs all around the world, where a liquid changes from a liquid state to a gaseous state. Evaporation
occurs when enough heat energy is absorbed by the molecules in a liquid state to the point where it
starts to vaporize. Do other liquids react in the same way? The answer is yes, but in this experiment, a
heat source will be used to evaporate different liquids. The results will show if certain liquids do, in
fact, evaporate faster or slower than others depending on their ingredients.
How do liquids change from a liquid to a gas phase? A liquid is a primary state of matter that has no
specific shape. According to chemwiki.ucdavis.edu, Liquids are more dense and less compressible
than gasses. Liquids have a definite volume, independent of the size and shape of their container. The
attractive forces are not strong enough, however, to keep neighboring molecules in a fixed position
and molecules are free to move past or slide ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
How is the dependent variable, evaporation rate, affected by different liquids? As said on
water.usgs.gov, Heat (energy) is necessary for evaporation to occurs. Energy is used to break the
bonds that hold water molecules together, which is why water easily evaporates at the boiling point
(212˚ F, 100˚C)... Water s boiling point is a known fact, but other liquids with lower boiling points

Anterior Cruciatetric Analysis Essay
Each year people suffer from one of the most common knee injuries, a torn anterior cruciate ligament
(ACL). The ACL is one of the four ligaments that aid in stabilization and function of the entire knee.
From a sports injury to a fall, an ACL may occur for numerous reasons. Receiving an accurate
diagnosis from the area s best orthopedic surgeon will help in determine if surgery for ACL tear is
necessary.
Symptoms
The most efficient indicator of a torn ACL is pain. The pain sets in almost immediately. During the
incident leading up to the ACL tear, a loud popping noise may occur. The noise may be so loud
bystanders can hear the sound. The noise is actually the ligament tearing which is the reason for the
immediate pain. Following the pain, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A MRI may be aid in the overall evaluation of the knee area.
The various procedures and tests will help determine if the ACL is torn. In some cases, the orthopedic
surgeon may begin with simple non surgical methods including applying ice packs, taking pain
medication or minimizing movement of the knee.
The non surgical approach can help reduce swelling and relieve pain. The non surgical methods help
in preparing for surgery for ACL tear. The wait period allows for reduced swelling and the elimination
of bleeding in the torn ACL. The surgery for ACL tear is used to provide an optimal outcome returning
the individual back to a normal, healthy lifestyle.
Rehabilitation Recovery
The rehabilitation and recovery process will vary with each individual. In some more severe cases, full
recovery from surgery for ACL tear may take over nine months. The best orthopedic surgeon will
work to achieve an optimal outcome for the patient on an individualized basis.
The rehabilitation and physical therapy will help increase the range of motion in the knee area to help
return the patient back to a normal lifestyle. Strengthening exercises are often used to achieve this
goal. During this time after the surgery for ACL tear, a protective knee brace may be prescribed to
help reduce the stress on the injured

Acquisition Process Analysis
The acquisition process is a vital component of project management. The requirements to ensure
successful execution of a project must be logical and efficient. It requires rigorous planning and
constant improvement of the project plan in order to discover and address any potential issues that
may interrupt the final delivery. Applying proven acquisition processes and principles will aid Project
Managers in creating an environment for success. The level of detail needed during the refining
activity is contingent upon several factors, such as the size and complexity of the project, the proposed
timeframe and the risks associated with the project (Career Education Corporation, 2013). My project

The decision to choose a product or service from an external supplier or vendor is referred to as
outsourcing. The decision to outsource a product or service is a significant one, and the Project
Manager must take into consideration additional costs, changes to schedule, deliverables, and value.
Furthermore, there are also other decision making factors, such as the need for control over the
quality, proprietary technology, time constraints, and lack of expertise or limited capabilities of the
external supplier (Project Management Institute, 2013). From a financial and scheduling standpoint,
the decision is straightforward, as the success of the project is dependent on resources available
through outsourcing. Since the project is dependent on an outside entity, the Project Manager must
follow prudent measures to control the process. The first step in controlling the process is to determine
the appropriate acquisition process. One reliable process is known as Performance Based Acquisition
(PBA). Performance Based Acquisition (PBA) is a results oriented contracting method that focuses on
outputs, and is written so that payment or contract extension is based on measurable performance. The
main benefit of using PBA is to minimize costs, while improving vendor performance (NIGP, 2012). It
is paramount that diligent research and evaluation methods are used to ensure that the best available

The Rime Of The Ancient Mariner And Oroonoko
Blake Wesley Dr. Katherine Toy Miller Poetry February 12th, 2016 The Rime of the Ancient Mariner
Oroonoko Paper Oronooko was very interesting. Although Aphra Behn s descriptions of the main
characters and the setting seem racist in our times, if we can understand Behn s point of view, we can
appreciate how innovative this piece was. The fact that the main character was African was a big step.
The book was very clever in the word choice it used and style but sometimes it was challenging to
read. The Rise of the Ancient Mariner was great. It contained Ghost, spells, and bad omens. The story
was decent, but it was random and in my opinion and wasn t very exciting. This poem was also
difficult to read much like the book Oroonoko . ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They native tribes use nature to survive. And they use their skills in nature to reason with the
Europeans, exchanging skills for resources. The Rime of the Ancient Mariner uses great word choice
to describe nature. Not only is his imagery good but he also uses personification to wind ice and water.
In doing so he is able to give emotion to nature thus playing a role in the emotion of the actual
characters of the story. All of these techniques paints a well painted painting of what is going on in the
story at the time. By studying enlightenment and Oronooko I realized what people practiced around
those times. You would think a lot of Christians would be honorable people but instead they weren t.

Rhetorical Analysis Of My Escape From North Korea
Imagine thinking you are living life to its absolute fullest. You are in the happiest country in the world.
You have no worries, nor do your neighbors, friends, parents, or classmates. This is how most people
can say their childhood seemed like: carefree and happy. That is, until one day you mature a little bit,
and realize the world is not all flowers and butterflies. You start to the problems in the world: death,
sadness, financial issues, and so much more. Hyeonoseo Lee makes a speech called My Escape from
North Korea. Her speech is all about how she grew up thinking her life was wonderful, but soon
realized the actual tragedies of not only life, but also living in North Korea. Throughout her speech,
she used many rhetorical appeals to engage the audience, including ethos, pathos, and logos.
Lee used ethos throughout her speech by emphasizing good sense, good character, and goodwill,
making her speech very credible. Good sense can be described as the speaker having knowledge on
the topic he or she is speaking about. Lee was obviously able to show good sense to the audience
because the entire speech was about her and her adventures while escaping North Korea. With her
speech being a first hand experience, it is very likely for it to be credible. Lee was able to show good
character in her speech by only presenting her story and facts that can be proven by being looked up or
researched. Throughout her entire speech, Lee made no assumptions of other people s stories, and as
far as the audience could tell, no part of her story was false or unrealistic. She was able to recall exact
memories and thoughts from her experience, showing the truth in her story. Lastly, Lee was able to
show goodwill throughout her speech, but specifically at the end of it. She said, So we can benefit
from the international community for education, English language training, job training, and more. We
can also act as a bridge between the people inside North Korea and the outside world and then
continued to say, I ve been so lucky, received so much help and inspiration in my life, so I want to
help give aspiring North Koreans a chance to prosper with international support. I m confident that

For example, someone who is thinking of teen suicide most likely will not ask for help. People around
that person should realize the signs of a suicidal person and should get them help. That person most
likely does not want to die, they more or less just want to stop hurting, whether it be physical pain, or
mental pain. If other people take the signs of suicide seriously, that could lead to prevention of suicide.
If people openly talk to the person thinking about suicide, that action could save that person. Suicidal
people are normally in so much pain that they believe that killing themselves is the only way to escape
that pain, and go to a better place where they can be happy and not in pain. Each year, more than 1
million people die of suicide. Some things people should not do around a suicidal person however, are
don t take someone saying they will commit suicide as a joke and start to laugh at them. Don t call that

however people who are determined to take their own lives will. No matter the repercussions. There
are warning signs of suicide. For instance, someone who is talking about or mentioning suicide a lot

In this case the father loses Beauty not out of love but out of his own weakness of addiction gambling.
As she strips away the petals of the flower, it symbolizes her stripping away the outer layers of
attachment and personality to find her true core. This image reflects the recurring motif of nakedness,
and foreshadows the metamorphosis at the story s end. The Beast has a mask like face like the
Marquis. Beauty explained the mask to be too perfect for human nature and could barely fit the Beast
face. Poor relationship with her father, the heroine here has more pride and anger than Beauty. Like
the other female protagonists, this heroine is initially treated as an object to be manipulated and
gambled away. The Beast in this version is associated with a tiger, a reminder of the heroine s mother
in The Bloody Chamber. He also lives on a threshold between the worlds of wild animals and humans.
The heroine s longing for the wild innocence of horses prefigures her later transformation. The symbol
of the rose begins to grow more complex here. It is not just a symbol of the heroine s purity and
virginity, as it also has thorns showing the pain of her objectification, but also her own fierceness and
pride. The Erl King will return in a later story as another metamorphic figure who controls the wind
and captures young women. Carter muses on the nature of her beasts, how there is a horror in living
life on the threshold, but also that there is a kind of beastliness that is internal as well as external. This
is another picture of decaying luxury, but the state of The Beast s mansion implies that he has let his
wild animal nature take over, and he has little care for keeping up the appearances of a nobleman.
Carter never fully describes her beasts, allowing them to inhabit a fantastic world where a tiger could

two objectives: increase internal fairness and external competitiveness. Gore uses job ranking for
internal fairness. According to Lepak Gowan (2010), job ranking is a type of job evaluation which

story. It explained how he grew up from living in poverty in Detroit, to making millions and being
known from all over the world. In the book Shropshire said, Robinson dreamed of being a champ, but
most black men of the day were simply striving to make life better (Shropshire 24). This shows how
he was discriminated against for being an African American and couldn t get the privileges he wanted.
Despite the racial discrimination against him, he set out to follow his dreams. He was introduced to

The Four Gospels Compare And Contrast
Gospel is an old English word meaning good news. When comparing the four gospels they are all

correlated to tell us Jesus story, in their own way. In like manner, God didn t give us one explanation
from an confined individual. Rather, God educates us about the broad richness of Jesus life through a
numerous prophet witnesses. Moreover, God works through well documented and a valid history, not
through confidential revelations to a single person. The prophetic witnesses of the Gospels endorse the

He is mentioned to by Paul as Luke the beloved physician (Col. 4:14). Luke fixed forth the humanity
of the Son of Man and cites it in chronological order the life of Christ. Being a physician, he is more
precise when using language. For example, when he indicates a leper he uses the identical medical
term to describe the circumstance, for example full of leprosy (Luke 5:12). Luke s gospel is
particularly focused towards an individual named Theophilus and is focused on the complete story and
past events of Jesus Christ from his birth and ministry to his crucifixion and resurrection. A major
theme in Luke s gospel shows how important the poor were to Jesus and how we should not neglect
the poor. Examples of this are seen when the book talks about the distinctive beatitudes blessed you
are poor...hunger now...weep now... and the distinctive woes woes to you that are rich...that are
full...that laugh now... which overall say, money and power will tend to bring judgement upon you. In
addition, the gospel of Luke refers to certain parables like the Rich man and Lazarus. This sends a
message to warn the rich who tend to trust in their riches more than in God, wealth tends to pull us
away from God and that if we neglect the poor and prioritize our riches more we will go to hell.

Summary Of The Windhover By Gerard Manley Hopkins
The Windhover Explication Gerard Manley Hopkins, The Windhover, has been described as one of
the most challenging poems to explicate, so with my limited knowledge I will attempt to do this
correctly and disagree with professors who have studied this poem far longer than I have. The
breaking of the word kingdom between line 1 and 2 is meaningful. The falcon is described as both
morning s minion and king. If the break were after dom there would have been less exaltation of the
falcon, which Hopkins sets up by using the dynamic verb caught, which implies spontaneity, joy, and
delight, instead of a more mundane verb like view or note. The division of the word kingdom also
allows for two simultaneous interpretations of the first two lines. The first interpretation being that the
falcon is the kingdom, and the other being that the falcon is the dauphin of the dom(e) of daylight
(Rudanko 176). For the sequence dapple dawn drawn sequence Rudanko proposes 4 possible ways of
interpretation based on previous literary analysis and his own which are as follows: (1) The falcon is
attracted by the dappled dawn. (2) The falcon is sketched against the dappled dawn. (3) The dappled
falcon is attracted by the dawn. (4) The dappled falcon is sketched in silhouette against the dawn
(Rudanko 176). However, immediately following this sequence the falcon is described as riding
therefore it is not plausible that 2 or 4 are accurate interpretations of the sequence given that the
dappling of the bird would be imperceptible if he were to be silhouetted and that if the dawn is
dappled there would be enough light in the rest of the sky to illuminate the bird enough for it to not
just appear as a silhouette. The only question left to answer is then, is the sky dappled or is the bird?
When the poem is read aloud, as Hopkins intended with his works, the most natural way of hearing it
is that the dawn is dappled. Hopkins has also described the sky as being dappled in other poems such
as Pied Beauty, leading to the conclusion that option 1 is the way in which the sequence should be
read, that the falcon is attracted by the dappled dawn. There is much less ambiguity over the line, Of
the rolling level underneath him steady air,

Dark Triad In The Workplace
There is an increased interest for the impact of the Dark Triad in the workplace. How does one spot
these type of traits? Machiavellians are very skilled socially. They exhibit behaviors and actions that
seem to benefit those around them. However, the motivation is one of self gain. In the workplace, this
puts a Machiavellian at a disadvantage in teamwork and performance (Smith, Wallace Jordan, 2016).
Narcissists in the workplace are very competitive, take risks, and are very opportunistic. They may
have delusions of grandeur. Taking risks can be beneficial. For the narcissist, the risks may be
unnecessary and follows the high risk high reward principle (Smith, Wallace Jordan, 2016). These
types of people can look at their co workers

The Christian Bible, the Hebrew Scripture, The Muslim Koran: Words are Not Important, Our Actions

Matt 13:3 He told them many things in parables.
13:10 Why do you talk to them in parables?
That s the crucial question: Did God, should God, have intended direct and final communication with
us? If so, Jesus certainly failed his mission. There is little evidence that Jesus appearance cleared
anything up or gave us God directly. Wittgenstein, who wanted our language to be clear, knows well

Heaven obviously contains no single, authorized publishing house. And what is now printed in many
instances existed first in oral tradition, that notoriously changeable and often obscure medium. Some
divine czar of communication should have allowed into written form only the authorized versions,
with clear Wittgensteinian definition of all terms. Any authoritarian dictator, bent on preventing
discord, could have done a better job, if put in charge of the divinities printing house. Thus, as the
source of a clear, single, religious creed, all sacred texts are failures. They were too loosely compiled.
Our divinities either need a course in exposition and writing or they never intended to offer us a clear
text in the first place. In God s name, why not? For Heaven s sake, didn t they realize what confusion
would result from their laxity? Wasn t it Nietzsche who remarked: Isn t it strange that, when God
decided to turn author, he should have learned to speak Greek? We have the biblical story of the Tower
of Babel, which explains how we came to have so many obscure and divergent languages. But surely
the heavenly U.N. Security Council could have elected to authorize, and to allow us to speak, only one
language, putting all the rest of our vague tongues to shame.

The south side has created a new invention, called the Cotton Gin.This invention allows the south to
separate seeds from cotton, to make clothes and other items. Made by the traitor himself, Eli Whitney.
This invention promotes the once almost abolished idea of slavery. This invention traps poor innocent
slaves in a hot, uncared for, factory. Just so the south can make a quick buck that they most likely won
t even use for government, just personal desire. The South now depends on these poor slaves to do
things at just a raise of a finger. They almost aren t human anymore. They ve enslaved too many
people for us to be comfortable with it anymore. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With help from Harriet Tubman, Samuel Cornish, and John Russwurm. These American remind us of
the meaning of freedom and how we can achieve it for all of the people in our country. Samuel
Cornish and John Russwurm are very strong figures for the abolitionists. In the 1820s they created an
abolitionist newspaper, the Freedom s Journal. With 103 publishes the newspaper perfectly shows the
right point of view. Harriet Tubman, even though she has freed herself she kept crossing the Northern
border into the South to help free hundreds of other slaves. She was wanted in the South and she
risked it all to save a few dozen slaves. That is the true American spirit. In views of the North the
underground railroad is a groundbreaking stand and solution against slavery bringing many african

Katie Rommely Analysis
When Katie Rommely has her first child she learns that she must be able to provide her daughter with
more than what she had as a child. Before her children, Katie was soft, she was romantic enough to
marry Johnny only because he could sing, dance, and had a handsome face. By the time she has her
children she realizes she can depend solely on her self to provide for her family and at this point Katie
develops from a hopeless romantic into a Rommely women made out of thin invisible steel (69).
Johnny was not dependable and Katie needed to become stronger to support her family, she grows
from a lovesick girl into a determined and courageous woman. This change resonates into her children
especially Francie. Although her circumstances of her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From a young age she watches Sissy manipulate men using her good looks and her mom survive
through the struggle of having two kids and husband who did not support. And Evy continue her life
when her husband deemed himself a failure and ran away. Francie had the gift of distinguishing the
difference when someone was speaking out of ignorance or was purposely rude. Her teacher was
ignorant about the reality of the world and the meaning of Francie s stories but the women who called
Johanna names and threw rocks at her knew exactly what they were saying and did not regret it.
Furthermore the men in Francie s life do not pit at each other, characters like Johnny, Uncle Whitman,
Steve, Sergeant McShane, Mr. Mcgarrity, while most of them were not strong or perfect characters,
and while They might hate each other they stuck together against the world and any woman who
would ensnare of them (238) Francie s observations and personal experiences made such a strong
impression for herself and an even stronger one on the reader. She develops into a more intelligent girl
and she grows to realize that she shouldn t be influenced by society as she upset at herself for being
embarrassed to smile back when Johanna smiled at her. She grows to understand she must make her
own judgments and not listen to others blindly and she promises herself. As long as I live I will never
have a woman for a friend or ever trust any woman again

A Brief Note On Fisheries And Its Effects On Aquatic...
By 2050, we could effectively be out of fish. (United Nations, 2010) In the 21st century, fisheries are
facing a crisis along with some other public goods. Fisheries satisfy the conditions for being a
common (public) good by being non excludable and rival. No one can exclude a person from fishing,
but present day intake of fish will reduce the amount available for other fisherman in the future ( rival
). Around 80% of the world s fisheries are being over exploited leading to a devastating impact on
aquatic communities as it destabilizes the food chain and destructs the natural habitats of many
oceanic communities.
Fish, however, are not the only stakeholders affected by these current threats. The different hazards to
this industry also cause a socio economic and financial loss. Oceans support the livelihood of over 520
million people involved in fishing and fish related activities. (WWF) Various emerging economies
around the world such as Bangladesh, Peru and Pakistan depend highly on the fishing industry for
their national income. Additionally, seafood is a staple diet in many developing countries as it is a rich
source of protein. With rising incomes in emerging economies, the global demand for fish is growing
rapidly, affecting over 2.6 billion people. Due to the various threats, the overall economic position of
many developing countries is under pressure. Furthermore, fisheries around the world are already
working at or over capacity, causing overconsumption of

New Deal Evaluation
An Evaluation of the New Deal. US History Online Textbook. N.p.: n.p., n.d. N. pag. Ushistory.org.
Independence Hall Association. Web. 24 Jan 2016. President Franklin Roosevelt s New Deal program
helped to preserve American s capitalist system and perhaps the democracy; however, it failed to end
the Depression. The program saved the free market economy and protected social safety by Social
Security program. It created millions of jobs and public projects as well as sponsored the banks to
avoid bankruptcy. It also monitored the stock market, and ran the social welfare programs to help the
poor. The President was credited to help the U.S. economy run under his control. However, the effects
of the Depression still remained. The unemployment ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to the author, the depression resulted from the long term weakness in economy that
depended on sales of cheap exports in the international market (Adas, 1992). He states that World War
I had the impact on Europe s economy, leading to some economic problems in the early 1920s.
Western world and the United States faced overproduction of food, resulting low prices. France and
German feared of inflation. Buying power of key groups decreased. Dependent countries such as
Africa and Latin America suffered badly. However, Adas also points out that it was the nationalistic
selfishness of the countries made the crisis worse, since they just wanted to protect their own
industries instead of contributing to balance the world economy. Therefore, this led to the debacle
starting from the New York stock market crashed in 1929, resulting in the general collapse of the
world economy. Finally, he concludes the countries reactions to the depression brought to our world

Multiplexing Optical Oam Modes Of A Ring Fiber
Multiplexing optical Oam modes in a Ring Fiber The Multiplexing OAM modes in a ring fiber are
conceptually, LP Modes of higher order are composed of two fiber Engine Modes with different
propagation constants. These two Modes Departs (Walk off) while propagating along the fiber,
resulting in a highly Distorted Mode profile at the Detection End. In Contrast, when we combine two
fiber engine modes properly the OAM Modes Can be Obtained. Compared with LP modes, OAM
modes can better maintain the mode profile after propagating through a certain length of fiber due to
the reason, these two fiber Engine Modes have the same propagation Constant, they will not undergo
any intrinsic mode Walk off. Redundant Radially higher order modes can easily be excited in Multi
Mode step Index fiber, thus raising a strict restriction to the mode coupling. Changes in Launching
Condition like mode Spot size or deviation from the center, Variation of angle, can excite higher order
modes in radial direction, resulting in serious cross talk. On the Contrary, a properly designed high
index single ring fiber can support only the radially fundamental modes. It leads to the potential
Reduction of the crosstalk induced during mode excitement. To multiplex multiple OAM modes
simultaneously, the number of the Eigen modes supported by the fiber should be increased by
increasing either the core radius or the refractive index difference between the core and cladding. In
this Theory, one dimensional mode

Selfishness In Macbeth
Macbeth by William Shakespeare is the story of how one mans hubris destroys him. From it, we can
extrapolate and comment on how in society people have a choice. We can live a life of altruism,
valour and nobility or one fuelled by ambition, greed and violence. Macbeths journey from the former
to the later showcases to the audience the dangers of selfishness. It prompts us to question our view of
life do we succumb to the false promises of evil, as tempting as they are, or do we remain defiant and
true to ourselves. Shakespeare s play is a very clear warning against listening to the dark forces that
are constantly around us. In the initial scenes of the play, Shakespeare creates a very deliberate first
impression of Macbeth and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It contains the ominous line the greatest is behind . These words, though ambiguous, suggest to the
audience that that Macbeth believes the greatest has already been achieved (i.e. it is his destiny to be
king) so the next steps will be easier. The next steps include getting rid of Duncan. Through his aside
he describes to the audience the thoughts running through his head. He is battling with his innate
goodness if good, why do I yield to that suggestion whose horrible image doth unfix my hair and
make his heart knock at his ribs . His language reveals that he is considering murdering king Duncan,
though he would loathe doing it. However at the end of the aside Macbeth decides not to follow
through with the murder if chance will have me king, why chance may crown me without my stir and
instead leave it to chance as he knows he should be loyal to king Duncan our duties are to your throne
. From this aside the audience learns that Macbeth wants greatness to be his but the horribleness of
murder and his loyalty to the throne are preventing him. At this point Macbeth is still a good man even
though he is flawed. He is aware of his own ambition but is not allowing to undermine his integrity.
An aside is also used following a meeting between Duncan, Macbeth and Banquo. In this scene
Shakespeare uses dramatic irony for when Duncan refers to the traitor Cawdor ne says he was a
gentleman upon which I built an absolute trust . This foreshadows how

Why I Should Be Safe From The Giant Mice
At last the walking was over. The Sfrums and I stopped like a backwards wave, where they start with
there hands up then put there hands down when it comes to them. A day and a half of walking from
behind the wall to the rug was finally over. And at that stop, I saw a whole new beginning.
Connor, welcome to your new home! My mom said cheerfully, You should be safe from the giant mice
I had a bad feeling about this dark new town of ours, this new town we named Rug had darkness to it.
Maybe this change wouldn t be good after all. Or, it could be a great place to live.
The town was very peaceful with little pre built houses and a town hall. Every building was made out
of little pieces of wood that matched the dark polished brown wood ... Show more content on

A criminal started stealing family s possessions from their new homes and keeping it for him or
herself. The adult Sfrums all came together in the town hall shack about this issue but they couldn t
agree. Some were for a police force and others said our town was too small. Others said to have only a
few guys and be like a town watch.
It was a boring few hours while I was sitting at the steps with the other children in the town. We all get
along well but haven t talked to them since the move. Things have been tiring and this is only our first
day here. Finally the arguing was over and the new wooden doors creaked open with parents and
adults spilling out. Some frustrated, others satisfied.
Lets go Connor My dad said in a bitter tone. We re out of here.
We left the town hall and went back to our little house. Each adult finding their child and walking
back to their little home, which was on the same street as everyone else s shack. My Parents and I
were both walking in the same place, but Mom and Dad were keeping their distance.
Why are you to angry? I asked. Really confused about what was going on between the two as we
walked along the walkway to the houses. Is it about what happened in the town hall?
My dad looked at my mom first then to me. Suddenly, he started to shout, I could care less about what
everyone else thought in there. What I m angry about is how you mother didn t take my side!
We should have a Police force Daryl! Now my

A Brief Note On Hansen Mechanical Contractors ( Hmc )
Hansen Mechanical Contractors (HMC) is a large construction company who has changed the way
sick time and personal time off (PTO) is paid and taken. In past years (up until 2013) sick time was
only able to be taken in the calendar year and if not taken would be lost. Each employee was given
seven sick days per year. Sick time could not be rolled over or cashed out at the end of the year. HMC
decided starting January 1, 2014 that they would change this policy in hopes of giving their employees
an incentive to not use sick time and take less days off per year. Sick time was changed to PTO time
and they were given seven PTO days per year. The change to PTO time gave the employees the
incentive to not use their PTO time and to instead be paid 50 cents on the dollar for time not used at
the end of the year. This business situation should be addressed to see the impact that this change has
had on the company and to see if the company s goals with the new policy are being achieved.
Part B1: Summary of Data
The data collected to do this analysis is the employee s attendance records by year (2013, 2014, 2015)
from the imaging system. The attendance records are a record of how much sick and PTO time was
taken for the entire year. The amount of time taken is then entered into a table by employee. There are
33 employees who will be entered into the table by year. The accounting system also holds this data
which I used to double check the numbers against the attendance

  • 2. Cognitive Behavior Therapy And Mental Therapy The cognitive behavior therapy initially treated depression, but extensive research has demonstrated that cognitive behavior therapy works to treat many other psychiatric disorders (Corey p.307). For example, phobias, eating disorders, anxiety, panic disorders, borderline personality, posttraumatic stress disorder etc. Additionally, there is evidence from neuroimaging research that CT therapy reduces the activity in the amygdalohippocampal subcortical region and increase the activity in the frontal cortical regions. Where they show the activation of schema (irrational thoughts) and the cognitive control of emotions. Meaning that CT produces symptom relief in depression and anxiety by modifying biased data processing and disturbance schema stimulation (Clark, Beck, 2010).The study of Peris, Compton, Kendall, Birmaher, Sherrill, March, and Piacentini, (2014) demonstrated that youth suffering from anxiety were treated using cognitive behavior therapies resulting in significant improvement on the overall measure of anxiety symptom severity and global functioning. Also, the findings on the study support the idea that changes in maladaptive or irrational thinking help to reduce anxiety. In this study, youth were introduced to the practice of cognitive restructuring which enhanced improvements in anxiety. Also, the present study supports the merits of exposure techniques across both overall anxiety symptom severity and global functioning. The introduction of exposures techniques ... • 3. How Marketers And Marketers Influence The Creation Of The... In a world of consumerism, children represent a giant portion of an important demographic to marketers because of their purchasing power. They greatly influence their parents buying decisions and are the consumers of the future. Since children have this advantage, advertisers know that they should be a main target. Advertising was created to influence the creation of the consumer. This method became a revolutionary development. The advertisers goal was to cater to the consumers wants and desires. Although the advertisers used what they knew from the consumer to shape their wants to create in commodities. Marketers and advertisers use several tactics such as promotion, positioning, brand voice, demographic segmentation, narrowcasting, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Marketers use the immense emotional attachment children have to their advantage. Marketers are well aware of the children s favorites, they use that knowledge to keep generating money by catering the products to the children s interests. This tactic becomes very dishonest. It is marketing products by using social aspect that can affect one s behavior rather than highlighting the products actual features. It encourages buyers to purchase products for their personal gain, instead of the actual use of the product. For example, when a child watches Barney and Friends it does not insinuate that this child is more intelligent than a child who does not watch it. Although, since children start watching these kinds of shows at such a young age, it can damage their attention span causing it to not be as attentive as one who does not partake in watching shows that are solely for entertainment. Going on, a major issue between advertised brand names and unadvertised brand names starts to create a structural issue that does not just stay within children it even extends to the older buyers. It is perceived that advertised brand names are more effective than generic brands. To be effective in the United States as a consumer, a child should be able to differentiate the real benefits of a product, rather than just focusing on the aesthetic of a ... • 4. Racial Stacking in Football Social Constructs Behind Racial Stacking and Stereotypes in Football Sport as an institution has seen many of its records and barriers shattered over its countless years of existence. For instance, sport has seen Jackie Robinson break the color barrier in Major League Baseball, and Billie Jean King defeat former champion Bobby Riggs in The battle of the sexes . One barrier that still exists in sports today is racial stacking and stereotyping. The social phenomenon of racial stacking and stereotyping within the institution of sport has profoundly hindered the development and participation of particular races in different dimensions of sport. Racial stacking is a term coined by sociologists which refers to the over or under representation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Speculations arose as to Owens having an extra bone in his leg, or elongated bones, all of which were proven to be false. Scientist found that biology was not a determinant in an individual s ability to excel in sports; rather dedication, determination, and training are more influential factors (Dyreson, 2008). One socioligical explanation as to why African Americans excel in athletics is because it is viewed as a way of upward social and financial mobility. Being one of the world s largest institutions, sports generate billions of dollars in revenue each year. Specifically, the National Football League generates six billion dollars in revenue a year (Sports Industry Overview, 2009). The life of an NFL player is filled with fame, fortune and limitless opportunites, something that the majority of young children dream about. The reason we see more African Americans succeeding in sports is because they have limited resources and opportunities for upward social mobility elsewhere. With the poverty rate among African Americans so high (24.7 %) they often do not have the resources to excel in education so instead they look to sports as a way of socio economic advancement (Bureau, Poverty, 2009). Sports sociologist Harry Edwards defines this concept of black youth using sports as a way of social mobility as blind faith . Edwards explains three reasons as to why black families push their ... • 5. The Most Memorable Writing Experience Most Memorable Writing Experience: My Reflection on Writing I have been writing since I have been in Middle School. I have realized that by college it was easier for me to write down my thoughts in order for me to remember what I have said or done. Writing out my thoughts gives me a sense of recollection, knowledge, and pacification that gets me through my day. I pictured writing to be as simple as jotting down a few sentences, but as I got farther in school I realized that there is more to it than just writing sentences. English has been my most difficult subject I have ever endured, but I have somehow been managing to make excellent grades and achieving all requirements. First in the essay, I will discuss my experiences in the English life that I ve taken so far up until college. The second part will list my struggles in creating a thesis, a work cited, and properly citing my sources used in the papers. My experience with English has changed drastically from middle school to college. Being in middle school I have really had to do much of a big paper, but as I progressed through college I ve realized there much more that has to be added. I had always wondered why middle school was so easy but as years went on, I realized that advancing to college there s a lot more requirements and importance to writing. In middle school, I was young and just starting to really realize what an essay was and after high school I really understood what an essay consists of. No matter how ... • 6. Social And Political Reactions To Mormon Polygamy Essay We are a peculiar people, Elder Bruce R. McConkie once said (McConkie 25). The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints is one of a few odd Christian religions. Many of its practices have created much persecution and political reaction, polygamy being one of these. It created much social and political persecution of the Mormons. Most of this persecution had come from anti polygamist Christians. This is ironic because the anti polygamists believed in the Bible, but not polygamy, one of its teachings. Many of God s righteous followers in the Old Testament practiced polygamy. The news spread quickly, and the persecution returned at an even greater intensity. Social persecution quickly turned into political persecution. On October 30, 1838, Governor Lilburn Boggs issued the Extermination Order in which he wrote that the Mormons must be treated as enemies and must be exterminated or driven from the state, if necessary, for the public good. (Benton 787) A few days later at Haun s Mill, 17 Mormons were killed and many others, including women and children, were severely wounded (Benton787). In October 1838, the Missouri state militia was marching toward the Saints in Kirtland, Ohio: Anxious to avoid bloodshed, Joseph Smith, Sidney Rigdon, Parley P. Pratt, Lyman White and George Robinson went to negotiate with state officials under the flag of truce. Instead of treating the group with respect, however, militia officials seized the group. An order was issued to have Joseph and the others shot, but Colonel Alexander Doniphan, a secondary Missouri officer, courageously refused to carry out the order. Instead of court martial and execution, the prisoners were taken on November 2 to Jackson County for Prison and trial. (Arrington JS32) After spending six months in prison, the group escaped with the help of the jailer (Arrington JS 32). Joseph then purchased a large amount of land in Jackson county, ... The northern part of the ice cap is entirely in Chile while the southern ice cap is shared by both Argentina and Chile. It is made up of around forty seven glaciers that are formed at high altitudes. The glacier covers around 16,800 km² (6,800 mi²) (Willis). It stretches across the southern Andes, measuring nearly 220 miles (355 km) long and 30 miles (48 km) wide. The Southern Patagonian Ice Field is highly important to scientists and geologists at the moment because there are two volcanoes called Lautaro and Viedma hidden under it. Little to nothing is known about this volcano because it is in such a remote location hidden underneath the glacier, making it very hard to access. The definition of a word is a sound or combination of sounds, or its representation in writing or printing that symbolizes and communicates a meaning and may consist of a single morpheme or a combination of morphemes. • 15. Tap Film Analysis Theo Popa HIST1042 June 22nd 2017 Assignment #4 Topic 1 By 1984 Rock and Roll music was going through a changing phase. From break ups, tragic deaths due to drugs and dangerous lifestyles, unnecessarily long and obnoxious solo performances, and overly loud and unnecessary amps that almost sounded like they were going all the way to 11 instead of 10. It seemed that Rock and Roll was dying out or becoming oversaturated as a musical genre. It is in this environment that the movie This is Spinal Tap bases itself in. This is Spinal Tap is a 1984 mock documentary or mockumentary about a fictitious band named Spinal Tap. The movie is told from the interviewing perspective of director Rob Reiner as he interviews and follows the British band for their United States concert tour for their new album, Smell My Glove . Throughout the film and tour, almost everything seems to be going wrong for the band. From drops in concert attendance, issues releasing their album cover due to controversial imagery, sudden changes in management, and the general childish behaviour of the band holding them back. Organ transplantation involves replacing the organs that have failed in their functions. The lives of many people, including children, has been prolonged when organ transplantation was performed successfully. Analysis Of Still Life With A Skull And A Writing Quill The Netherlands in the Seventeenth Century was the home of many famous artists, most notably Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn, but also many lesser known artists such as Pieter Claesz.. Pieter Claesz was born in 1597 in Berchem (near Antwerp) Claesz moved to Haarlem in 1620 and lived there till his death in 1660. He is most associated with the Flemish and Dutch still life tradition and still lifes make up a vast majority of his work. His 1628 painting Still Life with a Skull and a Writing Quill is a prime example of the Still Life style called Vanitas, so named as the artist would attempt to display the vanity of materialism. As the name suggests the skull instantly draws the eye, the hollow face of the skull is in the center of the oil on wood painting. The skull extends to the right where one sees an empty glass on its side resting at an angle to the skull. The glass is reflecting light along its curve but does not give one an actual reflection. Beneath both the skull and glass is a book and a sheaf of papers in a portfolio. The book s binding is brown and the pages are yellowing, whereas the papers in the moss green portfolio are a contrasting white. The presence of paper fits with the other object in the title the writing quill, whose feather rests on the book and sheaf. The head of the quill points to the right of the painting where it rests on an overturned ink well. • 20. Importance Of Religion In The Decameron There are patterns throughout history that relate to health and religion. Conversations about death or healing due to disease revolves around religion. It is widely used as a coping mechanism for those impacted by death and disease. From worshiping a god or goddess that controls disease to conducting healing ceremonies, to even just praying to be cured of the disease, religious practices are evident when a disease is involved. Analyzing Giovanni Boccaccio s The Decameron gives us an idea of how life was at the time of the plague along with how religion influenced people s lives at the time of disease. In The Decameron, three men and seven women run off together in order to escape the plague that is destroying their city. These ten people find sanctuary in a secluded villa on the outskirts of Florence. Once there, they determine that they will assign one male and one female the role of king and queen for a day. As king and queen, it is their responsibility to ensure everyone says entertained and they all do not go mad. As a result of this, each of the ten people tells stories to keep each other entertained and to distract their minds from the destruction the Black Death is causing. These stories consisted of tales of love, life lessons, and even tragedies. However, a majority of the stories, if not all of them, have underlying religious values. • 21. The Evaporation Race Leanna Lim Mrs. Stout P1 1/20/16 The Evaporation Race When it rains, puddles of water are often left behind, but it starts to disappear after just a few hours. What is happening? This is called evaporation. Evaporation is a very common natural process that occurs all around the world, where a liquid changes from a liquid state to a gaseous state. Evaporation occurs when enough heat energy is absorbed by the molecules in a liquid state to the point where it starts to vaporize. Do other liquids react in the same way? The answer is yes, but in this experiment, a heat source will be used to evaporate different liquids. The results will show if certain liquids do, in fact, evaporate faster or slower than others depending on their ingredients. How do liquids change from a liquid to a gas phase? A liquid is a primary state of matter that has no specific shape. According to chemwiki.ucdavis.edu, Liquids are more dense and less compressible than gasses. Throughout her speech, she used many rhetorical appeals to engage the audience, including ethos, pathos, and logos. Lee used ethos throughout her speech by emphasizing good sense, good character, and goodwill, making her speech very credible. Good sense can be described as the speaker having knowledge on the topic he or she is speaking about. Lee was obviously able to show good sense to the audience because the entire speech was about her and her adventures while escaping North Korea. With her speech being a first hand experience, it is very likely for it to be credible. Lee was able to show good character in her speech by only presenting her story and facts that can be proven by being looked up or researched. Throughout her entire speech, Lee made no assumptions of other people s stories, and as far as the audience could tell, no part of her story was false or unrealistic. She was able to recall exact memories and thoughts from her experience, showing the truth in her story. Lastly, Lee was able to show goodwill throughout her speech, but specifically at the end of it. She said, So we can benefit from the international community for education, English language training, job training, and more. • 35. Summary Of The Windhover By Gerard Manley Hopkins The Windhover Explication Gerard Manley Hopkins, The Windhover, has been described as one of the most challenging poems to explicate, so with my limited knowledge I will attempt to do this correctly and disagree with professors who have studied this poem far longer than I have. The breaking of the word kingdom between line 1 and 2 is meaningful. The falcon is described as both morning s minion and king. If the break were after dom there would have been less exaltation of the falcon, which Hopkins sets up by using the dynamic verb caught, which implies spontaneity, joy, and delight, instead of a more mundane verb like view or note. The division of the word kingdom also allows for two simultaneous interpretations of the first two lines. The first interpretation being that the falcon is the kingdom, and the other being that the falcon is the dauphin of the dom(e) of daylight (Rudanko 176). For the sequence dapple dawn drawn sequence Rudanko proposes 4 possible ways of interpretation based on previous literary analysis and his own which are as follows: (1) The falcon is attracted by the dappled dawn. (2) The falcon is sketched against the dappled dawn. (3) The dappled falcon is attracted by the dawn. (4) The dappled falcon is sketched in silhouette against the dawn (Rudanko 176). However, immediately following this sequence the falcon is described as riding therefore it is not plausible that 2 or 4 are accurate interpretations of the sequence given that the dappling of the bird would be imperceptible if he were to be silhouetted and that if the dawn is dappled there would be enough light in the rest of the sky to illuminate the bird enough for it to not just appear as a silhouette. The only question left to answer is then, is the sky dappled or is the bird? When the poem is read aloud, as Hopkins intended with his works, the most natural way of hearing it is that the dawn is dappled. Hopkins has also described the sky as being dappled in other poems such as Pied Beauty, leading to the conclusion that option 1 is the way in which the sequence should be read, that the falcon is attracted by the dappled dawn. There is much less ambiguity over the line, Of the rolling level underneath him steady air, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. Dark Triad In The Workplace There is an increased interest for the impact of the Dark Triad in the workplace. How does one spot these type of traits? Machiavellians are very skilled socially. They exhibit behaviors and actions that seem to benefit those around them. However, the motivation is one of self gain. In the workplace, this puts a Machiavellian at a disadvantage in teamwork and performance (Smith, Wallace Jordan, 2016). Narcissists in the workplace are very competitive, take risks, and are very opportunistic. They may have delusions of grandeur. Taking risks can be beneficial. For the narcissist, the risks may be unnecessary and follows the high risk high reward principle (Smith, Wallace Jordan, 2016). These types of people can look at their co workers ... The Christian Bible, the Hebrew Scripture, The Muslim Koran: Words are Not Important, Our Actions Are Matt 13:3 He told them many things in parables. 13:10 Why do you talk to them in parables? That s the crucial question: Did God, should God, have intended direct and final communication with us? If so, Jesus certainly failed his mission. There is little evidence that Jesus appearance cleared anything up or gave us God directly. Wittgenstein, who wanted our language to be clear, knows well enough that neither the Hebrew nor the Christian God s words could fall within his constructed linguistic net. Heaven obviously contains no single, authorized publishing house. And what is now printed in many instances existed first in oral tradition, that notoriously changeable and often obscure medium. Some divine czar of communication should have allowed into written form only the authorized versions, with clear Wittgensteinian definition of all terms. Any authoritarian dictator, bent on preventing discord, could have done a better job, if put in charge of the divinities printing house. Thus, as the source of a clear, single, religious creed, all sacred texts are failures. They were too loosely compiled. Our divinities either need a course in exposition and writing or they never intended to offer us a clear text in the first place. In God s name, why not? For Heaven s sake, didn t they realize what confusion would result from their laxity? Wasn t it Nietzsche who remarked: Isn t it strange that, when God decided to turn author, he should have learned to speak Greek? We have the biblical story of the Tower of Babel, which explains how we came to have so many obscure and divergent languages. But surely the heavenly U.N. • 41. A Brief Note On Fisheries And Its Effects On Aquatic... By 2050, we could effectively be out of fish. (United Nations, 2010) In the 21st century, fisheries are facing a crisis along with some other public goods. Fisheries satisfy the conditions for being a common (public) good by being non excludable and rival. No one can exclude a person from fishing, but present day intake of fish will reduce the amount available for other fisherman in the future ( rival ). Around 80% of the world s fisheries are being over exploited leading to a devastating impact on aquatic communities as it destabilizes the food chain and destructs the natural habitats of many oceanic communities. Fish, however, are not the only stakeholders affected by these current threats. The different hazards to this industry also cause a socio economic and financial loss. Oceans support the livelihood of over 520 million people involved in fishing and fish related activities. (WWF) Various emerging economies around the world such as Bangladesh, Peru and Pakistan depend highly on the fishing industry for their national income. Additionally, seafood is a staple diet in many developing countries as it is a rich source of protein. With rising incomes in emerging economies, the global demand for fish is growing rapidly, affecting over 2.6 billion people. Western world and the United States faced overproduction of food, resulting low prices. France and German feared of inflation. Buying power of key groups decreased. Dependent countries such as Africa and Latin America suffered badly. However, Adas also points out that it was the nationalistic selfishness of the countries made the crisis worse, since they just wanted to protect their own industries instead of contributing to balance the world economy. Therefore, this led to the debacle starting from the New York stock market crashed in 1929, resulting in the general collapse of the world economy. • 43. Multiplexing Optical Oam Modes Of A Ring Fiber Multiplexing optical Oam modes in a Ring Fiber The Multiplexing OAM modes in a ring fiber are conceptually, LP Modes of higher order are composed of two fiber Engine Modes with different propagation constants. These two Modes Departs (Walk off) while propagating along the fiber, resulting in a highly Distorted Mode profile at the Detection End. In Contrast, when we combine two fiber engine modes properly the OAM Modes Can be Obtained. Compared with LP modes, OAM modes can better maintain the mode profile after propagating through a certain length of fiber due to the reason, these two fiber Engine Modes have the same propagation Constant, they will not undergo any intrinsic mode Walk off. Redundant Radially higher order modes can easily be excited in Multi Mode step Index fiber, thus raising a strict restriction to the mode coupling. Changes in Launching Condition like mode Spot size or deviation from the center, Variation of angle, can excite higher order modes in radial direction, resulting in serious cross talk. On the Contrary, a properly designed high index single ring fiber can support only the radially fundamental modes. It leads to the potential Reduction of the crosstalk induced during mode excitement. To multiplex multiple OAM modes simultaneously, the number of the Eigen modes supported by the fiber should be increased by increasing either the core radius or the refractive index difference between the core and cladding. • 44. Selfishness In Macbeth Macbeth by William Shakespeare is the story of how one mans hubris destroys him. From it, we can extrapolate and comment on how in society people have a choice. We can live a life of altruism, valour and nobility or one fuelled by ambition, greed and violence. Macbeths journey from the former to the later showcases to the audience the dangers of selfishness. It prompts us to question our view of life do we succumb to the false promises of evil, as tempting as they are, or do we remain defiant and true to ourselves. It contains the ominous line the greatest is behind . These words, though ambiguous, suggest to the audience that that Macbeth believes the greatest has already been achieved (i.e. it is his destiny to be king) so the next steps will be easier. The next steps include getting rid of Duncan. Through his aside he describes to the audience the thoughts running through his head. He is battling with his innate goodness if good, why do I yield to that suggestion whose horrible image doth unfix my hair and make his heart knock at his ribs . His language reveals that he is considering murdering king Duncan, though he would loathe doing it. However at the end of the aside Macbeth decides not to follow through with the murder if chance will have me king, why chance may crown me without my stir and instead leave it to chance as he knows he should be loyal to king Duncan our duties are to your throne . From this aside the audience learns that Macbeth wants greatness to be his but the horribleness of murder and his loyalty to the throne are preventing him. At this point Macbeth is still a good man even though he is flawed. He is aware of his own ambition but is not allowing to undermine his integrity. An aside is also used following a meeting between Duncan, Macbeth and Banquo. In this scene Shakespeare uses dramatic irony for when Duncan refers to the traitor Cawdor ne says he was a gentleman upon which I built an absolute trust . This foreshadows how ... • 46. A Brief Note On Hansen Mechanical Contractors ( Hmc ) Hansen Mechanical Contractors (HMC) is a large construction company who has changed the way sick time and personal time off (PTO) is paid and taken. In past years (up until 2013) sick time was only able to be taken in the calendar year and if not taken would be lost. Each employee was given seven sick days per year. Sick time could not be rolled over or cashed out at the end of the year. HMC decided starting January 1, 2014 that they would change this policy in hopes of giving their employees an incentive to not use sick time and take less days off per year. Sick time was changed to PTO time and they were given seven PTO days per year. The change to PTO time gave the employees the incentive to not use their PTO time and to instead be paid 50 cents on the dollar for time not used at the end of the year. This business situation should be addressed to see the impact that this change has had on the company and to see if the company s goals with the new policy are being achieved. Part B1: Summary of Data The data collected to do this analysis is the employee s attendance records by year (2013, 2014, 2015) from the imaging system. The attendance records are a record of how much sick and PTO time was taken for the entire year. The amount of time taken is then entered into a table by employee.
