The Diagnostic Criteria For Smartphone Addiction
The diagnostic criteria for smartphone addiction proposed in this study were based on the
population with the currently largest sample size and the diagnoses were validated by psychiatric
interviews. Our findings indicated that smartphone addiction has overlapping features with
substance related or behavioral addictive disorders, but the unique properties of smartphones, i.e. its
excellent accessibility and multiple Internet based applications, contributed to its unique but
prevalent addictive behaviors.
We proposed that a strict definition for smartphone related functional impairment, requiring two or
more functional impairment criteria influenced by smartphone use. This definition is different from
the diagnostic criteria for functional impairment in DSM 5. Compared to computer based Internet
addiction, the portability of smartphones dampens the severity of functional impairment associated
with smartphone addiction, but instead influences multiple domains of an individual s daily life. In
addition, because smartphone addiction is a heterogeneous and multi faceted condition [26], we
should evaluate the heterogeneity of its functional impairment from different angles.
The symptom criteria in this study provided evidence that smartphone addiction has similar
psychopathology with the traditional substance use disorders. The core symptoms of substance use
disorders are impaired control , which consist of four criteria: (1) use larger amounts/longer, (2)
repeated attempts to

Taking a Look at Social Loafing
George (1996) stated that individuals who reduce effort when performing collectively than when
performing independently and where the individuals performance cannot be acknowledged as
excellent and important are called as social loafing (Joseph Timothy 2012). Social loafing is the
characteristic of individuals in a part of their academic life. It may be seen as a failure to willingly
satisfy the duties and commitments to others because of the perceptionof reduced social pressure.
Yet, social loafer or free rider without exerting effort in a teamwill gain benefits from the workof
others as the outcome of the team performance is shared by the team members (Weldon Mustari
1988, p. 33). Many researchers study about how social loafing is affected by the duty and self
discipline problems. Robbins (1995, p.337) found out some explanations which are linked to
Expectancy Values Theory to interpret why social loafing happens in the workplace. This theory
mentioned that the behaviour human perform is guided by their values, beliefs and social
circumstances (Shepperd Taylor 1999, p.1148). It assumes that employees make choice according
to their perception of their given behaviour will come out with desired outcome that is value.
When these three conditions are met, employees will feel motivated and exert more effort in their
team work (Eccles Wigfield, 2002, p. 120). For instance, Starbucks starts stock ownership program
to keep their employees motivated

Narrative Essay On Going To Chicago
You, Josie, have been accepted into GEM s World Academy Chicago! This was the best day of
my life. I have been accepted to the best private middle school in Chicago with a full ride. All
four years for free. I couldn t believe what just happened to me. This was the highest
achievement that I have ever gotten. It seems a little to good to be true. I could see my mother
with a pitty smile on her face and kind of scared. Like she is trying to hide something. It wasn t
like we were starting school tomorrow. It was June. I found out what it was, we live in Forest
Park, which is a full 12 miles from Chicago. To add on, my mom works from 12am to 10am. So
that means that I am going to have to take the trainall the way into the city. First of all, I ve never
really even been out of Forest Park or its neighboring towns other than driving to camp in southern
Illinois. So going to Chicago is a huge deal for me. It was an early morning. 6am on a Saturday to
be exact, and my mother woke me up. C mon Josie we need to get you to Chicago. Are you coming
with? I asked No. Here are a few quarters. Call me on a pay phone and I will come and pick you up.
I thought she was crazy. I was going to take the train into Chicago, by myself! I m only 11 years

I was already at the trainstation and I got on the train right away. Ok, I thought to myself, don t

disgusted by it. So I hurry off that platform and accidently switch to the purple line as I was rushing
to get out of there. I was forced to get off at the next stop and call my mom. That would be fail #2.
I seriously couldn t believe myself. I m a complete buffoon. Let s just say my mom said I was a
buffoon as well, but she didn t use such kind words. It made me think of why I was going to this

The Pros And Cons Of The Ultrasound
the ultrasound would be a way for her to form a bond with her unborn child by actually seeing it

when it is moving and has a heart pumping blood to the rest of its body. The ultrasound would
also be the best a way for the doctor to become well informed concerning exactly how far along the
pregnancyis to see what type of abortionprocedure would be the safest and most necessary for the

On the other hand, pro life supporters claim that abortions cause regret, depression, are
dangerous, and cause complications in later pregnancies. So pregnancies after that might suffer
due to the abortion that happened years ago. The obstetrician, Roger Harms, M.D., states that
surgical abortions can cause the cervix to become weak as well as leave a lot of scar tissue in
the uterus. Both of these factors would really cause it to be very difficult for a woman to
conceive again as well as be able to carry the baby to full term. Religion also plays a extremely
big role in abortions. Pro choice advocates tend to contradict pro life Christian beliefs, based on
Abortion: When Does Human Life Begin?, by stating when Genesis chapter one verse twenty

The Arabic Language is One of the Oldest and Most Difficult
The Arabic Language In the world there are many languages, some are difficult and some are
simple; some are ancient, some are modern. One of the oldest and hardest languages in the world
is the Arabic language because it has difficult grammar and every word or vocabulary word has
many meanings. The Arabic languagebegan in the 8th century B.C, but it developed twelve
centuries later in 4 A.D. The first people to speak this language are the Christians, but after four
hundred years later the Muslims spoke the same language because they lived together in the same
area. (The Middle East) In the website Ask.com it states that, The Middle East, also known as West
Asia, is conveniently located where the continents of Africa, Europe and Asia meet. According to
the USC School of Education more than two hundred eighty million people in twenty six countries
speak the Arabic language, but not everyone uses the same accent. There are similarities and
differences in how the Muslims and Christians use the Arabic language in the Bible and the Quran,
and there are similarities and differences in how they use the language in the Middle East.
In some ways people use the Arabic language in the Bible and Quran in the same way. One way
they use the language the same way is that they use the same type of writing. For example in the

The Effects Of Yoga On The Mind Body Spirit About A Person...
The review of literature on the benefits of yoga show the importance that exists between the mind,
body, and spirit. This review conducted shows the significance of link between the mind body spirit
about a person s overall health.
Diversity in yoga including type, intensity, and duration are what play significant roles in the levels
of perceived health benefits in comparison to traditional exercise. Thus, far stress reduction seems
to be the most proposed benefit associated with yoga therapy, even though time constraints are the
most common barrier. Due to the foreseen benefits of participating in yoga practice, this should
generate an increase on the need of yoga to improve overall health status.
As we continue to understand the important and vital role that yoga practice has will hopefully
continue to emerge in Western culture. As indicated from research, yoga plays a significant role in
the reduction of stress management and reduction of risk factors in chronic disease. In comparison
to traditional forms of medicine, yoga can be an integral part as a holistic alternative.
Yoga has been shown to affect not only mind, body and soul but overall general wellness. Yoga
can affect a multitude of reactions in the body and reap positive benefits on the muscles, organ
systems, glands and quality of life.
Although this literature review shows the potential benefits of including yoga as a part of general
fitness, there still lacks enough research to warrant its impact. For us

Character Change In Antigone
Antigone
In the play Antigone, written by Sophocles, writes a story about how one person s action has the
abilities to affect everyone around them. The main character Antigone openly admits that she
dislikes how Thebes is being run. Even though she is alone on her beliefs, she strongly disagrees
with Creon decisions, and wants the world to know her deeds. Antigone s deeds end in her
inevitable death, but in her passing achieves her objectives. The writer uses her to show how much
a single person can affect society, but also shows one must endure the sacrifice to achieve progress.
Throughout the story we find the characters must stand by what they believe in and face the
consequences to ensure change.
Many believe that the divine word holds more power than man, Antigone is one of these people
and hold the divines laws higher than man s laws. On the other hand, Creon believes that
holding power is the way of life and tries to uphold his laws over the deity laws. Creon does this
when the brothers Polyneices and Eteocles kill each other and Polyneices is designated as a
traitor. Creon decides to prohibit the people from burying Polyneices properly and follow the
god s law to prevent more rebellions. Antigone on the other hand believes that a Creon s law holds
no power over her from giving a proper burial. As Antigone is talking to Ismene she states No one
shall say I failed him! I will bury my brother and yours too, if you will not ( Sophocles ). This
statement shows

My Life Flight Nurse Is Not A Smoke Jumper
As we grow up, we change our careers at least once, maybe twice or even three times before we
realize what we want to be. When I was little, I was fascinated with being a speech and language
pathologist but then I grew a little taller and discovered smoke jumping. And up until my senior
year in high school I wanted to be a smoke jumper. But by the end of my senior year, I finally found
my career; a life flight nurse. Having a strict schedule, great job security, being people oriented,
and having an independent job are the things I look for most when I m looking at career options. I
wanta schedule where I can easily have an idea of what hours I will be working before the schedule
is printed. I am also looking for great job security in the fact that if I am going to be going to
school, I want to be able to do it once and be very good at it. I don t want to have to switch through
jobs because my current career isn t holding out based on the world. I like helping people and I
want to be able to save the ones I can. I am a very independent person and I would like to do a
job where I have my own independent time where I can take control and learn from my own
mistakes, but because I am also people oriented, I also would like to have a select few co works
that I can touch base with to make sure I am on the right track with my thinking.
Life flight nurses need to be able to evaluate patients needs as well as be able to provide them with
proper medical care and treatment until

The Current Makeup Of The Texas Dream Act
The first policy alternative, the status quo, is to not repeal or change the current makeup of the
Texas Dream Act. Texas awards around $9 million in grants and scholarships, which are paid from
the appropriations made by the legislature every two years. This might seem like a large amount but
that cost is merely a fraction of the net profit the states makes off of undocumented students paying
tuition at universities across the state. By not changing the policy Texaswould expect to attain $56.1
million in tuition revenue from the undocumented students attending universities in Texas. Besides
the tuition revenue, Texas would expect to see another $65 billion from wages, salaries and
business earning by undocumented immigrants. The extra... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

On the other hand, US citizens from other states cannot pay in state tuition rates, so that is unfair
to them. A way to solve this issue perhaps would be to create a public policy to allow US
students to pay the same tuition rate across the US. In total, alternative 1 scores 2.05 out of 3.0.
The policy is of low cost to the state, brings in a large amount of revenue, and is relatively fair to
the parties involved and affected.
The second policy alternative received the lowest overall score for many reasons. Its efficiency
score is 0.5 although it does save the state $9 million every two years, but it cost the states more
maintain this population because without college education a large portion of the students will find
themselves incarcerated, with more health problems, and having more children earlier in their lives.
This policy is a means to an end, however the end result puts the state in a worse situation than it
currently is in. The cost benefit score is 0.35 because without the education the students are not able
to acquire the necessary skills to attract big name employers such as Google, Accenture, and even
Toyota who are presently looking for top talent. Also, the state would lose an estimated $56.1
Billion from the immigrant students and their parents, however that s not the only thing on the line.
Former Secretary of Labor Robert Reich argues that immigrants are part of the solution to

How Did James Madison Contribute To The Constitution
James Madison is often considered the Father of the Constitution because many of his ideas
influenced the Constitution of the United States. Though the entirety of the Constitution was a
result of months of deliberation among the delegates, James Madison created important
contributions. Many of Madison s contributions intended for the constitution to protect the citizens
of the U.S. from tyranny of the government. James Madisonbelieved there was many forms of
tyranny and wanted to protect the citizens against all types. Madison believed the most popular
and well known form of tyranny was tyranny of the government. In The Federalist Papers: No. 10,

The Pond Is Healthy Or Unclean Essay
Introduction ~ Throughout the course of about a week, the 9th grade class at CEEC took
samples of the pond at UNCC for an experiment to determine whether or not if the pond is in a
safe or in a harmful environment and if the pond is healthy or unclean. University of North
Carolina Charlotte and its health is an important factor to the survival of the animals around it.
North Carolina is a southern US state with landscape ranging from the atlantic ocean to the
appalachian mountains. Charlotte is the state largest city it is home to the NFL s Carolina
Panthers and the Nascar Hall of Fame UNCC s campus has a early college program named the
Charlotte Engineering Early College, with a pond located to the left of CEEC.This pond is the
home to many animals such as fish, ducks, tadpoles, canadian geese, turtles, and cattail, and is a
source of water for the university. In order to be able to use this water, the pond health must be
healthy. However, what makes a pond really healthy?
Pond health is determined by its pH levels, its levels of biodiversity, its dissolved oxygen levels, its
temperature, its range of tolerance, its air temperature, and its amount of nitrogen. In order for a
pond to be healthy it must have the correct amount of each on of these things.
One significant factor to pond health is pH. pH stands for hydrogen of power, which is the
measurement of the hydrogen ion in the experiment you have to complete. pH is normally scaled

Perhaps, where they coexisted, some difference prevented interbreeding or the production of
hybrids between these populations and early human ancestors. Usually such differences between
related species originate as adaptations to the environment, not as devices for reproductive isolation.
Neanderthals were hunter gatherers who moved across Europe with the advance and retreat of
the Ice Age glaciers. Their total population probably never exceeded 100,000. From 180,000 to
130,000years ago large glaciers covered much of Europe and Neanderthal remains are scarce. After
130,000years ago, tool technology developed rapidly to become the classic Neanderthal technology
called the
Mousterian tradition. They created sets of tools with great variety and finely trimmed cutting edges.
Flint stone properly chipped forms a cutting edge sharper than a steel scalpel.
Neanderthals were adapted to the cold northern climate, with short limbs and stocky bodies and
flourished during a warmer interglacial period. There was great anatomical variation within this
population. There is evidence that they took care of injured associates and sometimes carried out
burials. Fossil remains provide evidence that they moved in small groups possibly occupying areas
seasonally and subsisting by hunting big game such as reindeer. As they did not use bows and
arrows, or other projectiles, hunting such big game would have required a group strategy. Animal

of hierarchy within an organization. The organizational structure classifies each job, explains its
function, and who it reports to within the organization. Based on my scores they suggest I prefer
to work in a mechanistic structure rather than a organic structure. In a mechanistic structure
people work separately and specialize on only one task. Also within a mechanistic the hierarchy
of authority is well defined. The first section also measures my ability to delegate in the work
place. According to my score I need to substantial improve on my ability to delegate. Based on
the analysis delegating authority are what many managers have difficult doing. My ratio for
being able to give feedback is a four out four. This means my self perceived strength and
weakness are equal, but I could work to improve ratio to be more self perceived in strength. In the
section labeled careers it indicates that I my preferred organizational culturethat informal,
humanistic, flexible, and innovative culture. These traits fall under humanistic culture even thought
my other score suggested I prefer a mechanistic structure. It also indicates that I m not that
committed to my job since my score falls below the mean. This is ok since not being committed to
ones job is the new norm than it was

Life of a Teenager
The Effects of Teenage Relationships Different relationships affect teenagers in various ways.
Friends impact teenagers almost the same amount as their parents. Teenagers go to their friends
for help or to ask questions that they could not ask their parents about. Most of the time their
friends give them good advice but then there is the down side when they put pressure on their
friends to do something like to smoke, drink, and do drugs. In most cases they tell their friends
how to dress and act when around certain people. Love relationships just make it even harder for a
teenager to get a good education. Some start to fail in school because they are hanging out with
their boyfriend or girlfriend instead of doing their work. Throughout... Show more content on

Close family ties are an important bond for each member of the family. A guy who wants to date
a girl must ask for her parents permission. In case no permission is granted, it is highly unlikely
for the date to actually happen, unless in some cases that the girl and guy sneak out and date out
secretly. However, this is morally unacceptable in Philippine culture. Filipino parents are very
strict with their children having romantic relationships. Brothers are generally protective of their
sisters. Even cousins and other relatives are protective of their young female cousins and
relatives. They become more lenient when their daughters, sisters and relatives reach the legal
age of 18. When picking up the girl at her home for a date, it is common to provide gifts to the
family members (parents, grandparents and siblings) as well. Parents usually want to have
some conversation with the guy and ask about his family and educational background before
they can go out for a date. First Date The first date is officially a time to get to know each other.
The couple ask about each other s backgrounds and it is highly unlikely to have a passionate kiss
after the date. Some girls allow a kiss on the cheek after the first date, but this varies per person
and per couple. Some guys don t even get the chance to hold the hand of their conservative dates.
However, the more liberal females are more open to

The Punishment Of The American Prison System
Whenever you imagine prison, you think up ideas and violent images that you have seen in the
movies or on TV. Outdated clichГ©s consisting of men eating stale bread and drinking dirty water
are only a small fraction of the number of horrible, yet just occurrences which are stereotypical of
everyday life in prison. Perhaps it could be a combination of your upbringing, horrific ideas about
the punishment which our nation inflicts on those who violate its more serious laws that keeps
people frightened just enough to lead a law abiding life. Despite it s success in keeping dangerous
offenders off the streets, the American prison system fails in fulfilling its original design of
restoring criminals to being productive members of society, it is also extremely expensive and
wastes our precious tax dollars.
As children, most people learn obedience through punishment. When we do something wrong ,
one or several privileges are taken away by our parents. Depending on the severity of a mistake,
such punishment may last for a very short time or in some cases it may even be permanent by
nature. Many parents inflict a common punishment on their young children of not allowing them to
watch television for a certain amount of time which is usually measured in days or in weeks. Such
disciplinary methods often prove to be positive learning experiences which teach us right from
wrong and instill us with values which should prevent us from doing it again. Similarly, the prison

The Relationship Between Cuba And The United States
Change is hard in our own lives and in the lives of nations President Obama said Change is even
harder when we carry the heavy weight of history on our shoulders. But today we are making these
changes because it is the right thing to do (cnn.com). The poor relations with Cuba and the United
States have been like this since the cold war. Fidel Castroseized power in Cubain 1959 by removing
from power Fulgencio Batista who was in charge at the time. Castro taxed the United Stateshard on
their imports. Which lead President Kennedy into a full economic embargo that included stringent
travel restrictions that are still in effect today.

Just like it is stated in white house article following the same path does not lead to a different
result, President Obama was looking for a different result. It does not serve America s interests,
or the Cuban people, to try to push Cuba toward collapse. We know from hard learned
experience that it is better to encourage and support reform than to impose policies that will
render a country a failed state. We should not allow U.S. sanctions to add to the burden of Cuban
citizens we seek to help (whitehouse.gov). If we do not grow as a people how are we going to
improve for our future benefits? We need to move forward and help each other and let past
events go by the way side and look to a future that will help not just one group but all groups.

The Film Rocky Horror Picture Show By Richard O Brien Essay
In the film Rocky Horror Picture Show, the character Dr. Frank N Furter sings the words, So I ll
remove the cause, but not the symptom (O Brien) . This cult classic musical written by Richard O
Brien follows a newly engaged couple through a sexual journey as they lose their innocence and
start to conform to traditional gender stereotypes. Today youth of America are being bombarded
with conflicting ideas about gender, race and sex. These conflicting ideas can lead to skewed
visions on what defines masculinity and what defines femininity. Furthermore, sexual assaulton
college campuses by men and particularly student athletes have come to the forefront of many
news headlines in recent years and while some believe that sexual assault stems from locker room
culture , it stems from a skewed sense of masculinity that has been created over years of
consuming media. Many try to educate these same men on what defines consent and how to
properly act in sexual situations, but this is merely trying put a temporary solution on a much
larger issue. If people wanted the systemic issue of sexual assault to be reduced, then the root cause
must be removed. A twisted systemic view of masculinity is the root cause of many sexual assaults
because a twisted view of masculinity causes unhealthy understanding of sexuality and consent as
seen in college.

it was a basilica type structure with a rectangular floor plan, circular apse and timbered roof. It
was similar to St. Studios, a basilica in Istanbul, the ruins of which still exist. Ancient sources

The poet speaks to her husband, celebrating their unity and saying that there is no man in the
world whose wife loves him more. If there was ever a wife more happy with her husband, the poet
asks those women to compare themselves to her. She prizes her husband s love more than gold or
the riches of the East. Rivers cannot quench her loveand no love but his can ever satisfy her. There
is no way she can ever repay him for his love. She believes they should love each other so much
that when they die, their love will live on.Analysis: Anne Bradstreet s passionate love poems to

Men and women married young and were expected to remain together until they died. Puritan
society did not tolerate divorce or adultery, although cases of both are certainly present in the
historical record. Husbands and wives were supposed to adhere to the Biblical definition of marriage
, which emphasized mutual love and respect. However, Puritans were not supposed to place all of
their efforts in the relationship on Earth, but rather, to glorify God through their union. As the Poetry
Foundation s page on Bradstreet explains, marriage was very important and the focus on family
was crucial; however, the love between wife and husband was not supposed to distract from
devotion to God. In Bradstreet s sonnets, her erotic attraction to her husband is central, and these
poems are more secular than religious. Robert J. Richardson writes that the development in To My
Dear and Loving Husband is clear and logical. The poet s husband loves her so much that in order
to find something that equals it, she must turn her sights Heavenward. The lovers union in Heaven
is the outcome of their Earthly love which is an emblem of what awaits the

Effects Of Colonization On Indigenous People
Imagine having your identity and culture stripped away from you. This is what has happened to
many Indigenous people throughout history in Canada. This has been done through the process of

Indigenous people. Racism against Indigenous people has been a major impact of colonialism
throughout the years. The racism and institutionalized racism has grown over the years and has

Racism is very prevalent in today s society against Indigenous people in Canada. They face many
forms of individual and institutionalized racism. According to LaRocque, Racism is prejudice or
discrimination based on the belief that one or one s group is innately or genetically superior to
another. Racists believe that race determines qualities such as intelligence, innovation, creativity
and even morality (N.D). People have been taught the stereotypes of Indigenous people whether it

Garvey s dream of a return to Africa became the Rastafarian dream as well, and some
Rastafarians have indeed settled in Ethiopia, Ghana, and Zaire. One of the early impacts who
paved the way for the rise of this cult was Marcus Garvey. Garvey lived in New York City, and
believed that the black man would never receive fair treatment in a white man s world. He then
organized a back to Africa movement that attracted thousands. Which were followers among the
poor blacks of certain large city urban areas. Garvey was convicted of mail fraud, and spent time
in prison. When he finally returned to his native Jamaica in 1927, Garvey allegedly prophesied
that a black king would be crowned in Africa. He also stated through that monarch freedom for
dark skin people would be realized eventually. Garvey himself never joined the succeeding
religious movement that became known as Rastafarianism. Garvey was even critical of Haile

Monster Study Stuttering Theory
The Monster Study
Wendell Johnson devised the Monster study in 1939 at the Soldiers and Sailors Orphans Home in
Dayton, Iowa to find the true cause of stuttering, which he and many others suffered from
(Reynolds, 2003). The popular theory at the time was that stuttering was a physiological defect,
meaning the brain s signals misfired; however, Johnson believed that stuttering was a learned
behavior and could be unlearned (Reynolds, 2003, n.pag). To see if his hypothesis was correct,
Johnson devised an experiment now known as the Monster Study. Before he could begin he
requested the help of one of his students at the time, Mary Tudor, to carry out the experiment for
him. Before the experiment Tudor and 5 other graduate students ranked twenty six children s
speech on a scale of one to five, one being poor and five being fluent (Reynolds, 2003, n.pag).
Based on this the children were separated into four groups: IA consisted of five children who
stuttered, but were told nice things; IB consisted of five children who stuttered and were told
negative things; IIA consisted of six children who did not stutter but, were told they did, and,
IIB consisted of six children who did not stutter and were told nice things. Tudor used rehearsed
responses such as, you will be able to speak even better than you are speaking now on students in
IA and responses such as Don t ever speak unless you can do it right on children in IIA (Reynolds,
2003, n.pag.). Even after just two sessions,

two nations to display who had the superior science and technology knowledge. After the Russians

The thought that the other nation would have complete military control over the space
surrounding Earth was threatening motivating them to get there first. The same rockets that

Von Braun s V 2s caused around 2,750 civilian deaths; one single V 2 rocket that landed on a

technology from the Space Race, the U.S and Soviets military were able to make weapons of
destruction that could kill thousands of people and could not be shot down due to how new they
were and the little knowledge from around the world about them. Although military advancements
were a very important reason why the Space Race was worth funding, space exploration was also
very important.
Lastly, space exploration. The Space Race kickstarted the exploration of space. While rushing to get
an American on the Moon, we learned much about the technicalities of space. While working on the
competition, Eisenhower created NASA, which is still around and alive today That same year,
President Dwight Eisenhower signed a public order creating the National Aeronautics and Space

International Typographic Style Essay
The focus of this essay is to explain why the International Typographic Style or Swiss style was so
important to the mid twentieth century and how it got started. Firstly, it is an art movement that
internationally began in the 1950 s, but the origins can be traced back at least thirty years. It can be
thought of as a combination of elements from other movements such as Constructivism, De Stijland
the Bauhaus. According to Richard Hollis book Swiss Graphic Design, there are at least three
factors that account for the Swiss style (Hollis, R. 2006, P9), these being the country s location,
the language and the culture. There is evidence to prove that there are at least 2 other factors,
especially for the origin of the style, which is shown in the book, along with several others.
Although not directly linked to the foundation of the style itself, these 2 other factors include the
designers and the typography, after all, it is known as the International Typographic Style. In this
essay we will be discussing each of them in turn, and explaining views as to why they were
important and what effect they had on graphic design in the mid twentieth century.
We begin with one of the most important factors, the designers themselves. Without the designers
to create the style, there would be no style. Josef MuМ€ller Brockmann was a leading figure of
Swiss graphic design in the 1950 s and 1960 s. He began his path towards the Swiss style in the
early 1930 s as a student of Ernst

The Issue Of The Gay Liberation Movement
Although the gay liberation movement had very little impact at that time, it set the stage for bigger
and better changes in the future. Since the 1960 s America has added, removed, and adjusted laws
against homosexuals. On May 17, 2004, Massachusetts becomes the first state in the United State
to legalize same sex marriage. The Massachusetts Chief Justice concluded, to deny the protections,
benefits, and obligations conferred by civil marriage to gay couples was unconstitutional because
it denied the dignity and equality of all individuals and made them second class citizens. Now 37
states have legalized same sex marriageand 13 states have laws that still prohibit it. A year before
the state of Massachusetts decided to legalize same sex... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Panetta and the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Adm. Mike Mullen, signed the certification.
The certification was given after a long period of preparation but according to Elizabeth Bumiller,
Pentagon officials said that more than 1.9 million of 2.2 million active duty and reserve service
men and women had been trained in preparation for the end of the policy. These training sessions
lasted about 45 75 minutes and included group work and PowerPoint presentations on the
ubiquitous communication tool of the military as well as discussions of hypothetical situations.
Military leaders and Pentagon officials seek these training sessions. The hypothetical situations help
them become familiar and with homosexual service members showing public affection as well as
helping them with eliminating any negative attitudes they may have towards homosexuals. Along
with some of the positive changes that are occurring in the United States, such as the Don t Ask,
Don t Tell policy repeal and the military leader training sessions, Pentagon officials are considering
extending some benefits to same sex married couples in the military. These benefits include health
insurance; base housing, certain death benefits etc. These are ideas that are still being formulated
because under certain laws, primary the Defense of Marriage Act, the Pentagon can not give

Competing on Analytics defines an analytical competitor as an organization that uses analytics
extensively and systematically to outthink and out execute the competition. (1) Business analytics
is a new way for companies to separate themselves from their competitors. I recently completed
an internship at the firm PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) and will work there full time upon
completion of this program. PwC uses analytics to help solve complex business issues and to
identify opportunities across different industries. PwC is the largest professional service company
in the world and is part of the Big Four accounting firms. PwC operates in over 157 countries with
more than 750 offices throughout the world.(2) PwC is structured into three service lines, which
are Assurance, Advisory and Tax. The assurance practice audits almost 30% of the global fortune
500 companies.(2) The advisory practice is mainly consulting activities that cover strategy, cyber
security and privacy, human resources, deals and forensics. (2) These three practices generated
$35.4 billion in revenue in 2015. (2) Position and Ability to Compete on Analytics Today, data is a
growing asset that various businesses are having difficulty converting into a powerful strategic tool.
Companies need help turning this data into valuable insight, which can diminish risk and enhance

Russia 1856-1860
From 1856 to 1964 Russia transformed from a backward, agriculturally based country, governed by
an autocratic ruler and divided by the feudal system to a global superpower that had nuclear
capabilities. These profound changes are attributed to many factors, however through closer
examination it can be determined the extent to whether individuals, events such as wars or other
circumstances, for example, the geography of Russiaplayed the most significant role in Russia s
social, political and economic modernisation from 1856 1964.
Individuals played a role in the social modernisation of Russia, in particular, Alexander II and
Khrushchev. According to Hosking, Alexander II s emancipation of 23 million serfs , went a
long way towards erecting the framework of a civil society . Peasants were no longer owned by
landlords, but rather free to marry and trade, and allowing for growth in the Russian coal
production and industrial output. However, the terms of emancipation didn t go far enough, as the
lack of land (peasant farmers now farmed 20% less), the 49 years redemption payments and the ...

Smoking and The Human Body Essay examples
Smoking is a bad habit which plagues the young, as well as the old. It is the largest source of
preventable mortality in North America1. Not only does smoking lead to an early grave, but it can
also influence one s daily life. Many studies have revealed links between smoking and reduced
endurance capacity2. Nicotine, the addictive agent found in cigarettes, can also be used to control
weight gain.
Both of these factors can have considerable effect on the sporting world. There have been many
studies done, indicating that if you smoked, you did less physical activity. It has also been shown
that the more you smoke, the less activity you do. In one experiment done on smokers and non
smokers, the subjects were tested while running a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many sports and activities require the athlete to do notable amounts of work and expend a fair
amount of energy.
When an athlete smokes, they will not be able to get the required oxygen to the necessary parts of
the body, and therefore will not perform as well. It has been proven that even if you have smoked,
when you quit smoking your levels of physical activity will increase8. When taking a glimpse of all
the top athletes in the world, it can be noted that none of them are frequent tobacco product users.
Another aspect of smoking and the human body is the effect of nicotine on body weight. Nicotine,
the drug found in cigarettes, is usually what tends to get smokers addicted to tobacco products.
Through many different experiments, it has been shown that smokers tend to weigh less than non
smokers9.
These tests were done not only by measurement of weight, but by multiple skinfold thickness
assessments. In a study done on rats, it was determined that nicotine exposed rats had significantly
less carcass fat, suggesting that nicotine effects fat stores. The more nicotine which was given, the
less fat the rats had. It was hypothesized that nicotine effected these fat stores was by altering key
enzymes in the regulation and uptake of triglycerides such as adipose tissue lipoprotein lipase10.
When dealing with humans, one study found that smokers had 2.8% lower total body fat than non
smokers11.

Steinbeck Describe Crooks
Syirah Aidiradiman
Explore the character of Crooks in the novel so far
John Steinbeck introduces the character Crooks in the novella, Of Mice and Men, by presenting
his character through his possessions and through the little description of his appearance. At the
beginning of chapter four, Steinbeck presents Crooks as a negro stable buck, then begins to
show the readers what Crooks are like through his possessions. Steinbeck introduces Crooks to
the readers in this way, so the readers have an idea of what type of life Crooks had lived as a
coloured man. That quote also gives the readers hints of the theme of racism and how society was
like during the 1930s. Furthermore, it is shown to the readers that Crooks has ...more possessions

In the fourth chapter, Crooks had started to express how lonely he actually was once he started
to talk to Candy and Lennie. Crooks had been on the ranch for a long time longer than any usual
itinerant workers and after being there for a long time he started to feel alone. Moreover, even
though Crooks valued his knowledge to read and preferred to keep his distance from the others
he still felt all alone. In the novella, it is stated that A guy sets alone out here...readin books or
thinkin ... which tells the readers how even though Crooks acts as a proud, aloof man, he is still
just like any other person, who ll get lonely, since ...books ain t no good. A guy needs somebody.
Additionally, this is furthered by Crooks by stating that ... a guy gets too lonely an he gets sick.
This also furthers the knowledge of the readers about the people during The Great Depression,
which is that people were very lonely as they had nobody, but themselves, to survive the harsh
economic downfall. Furthermore, it also shows how Crooks puts on a barrier in front of others to
protect himself, which makes him feel alone. However, when Lennie and Candy came and talked
to Crooks, he had momentarily let his guard down, since it was difficult for [him] to conceal his
pleasure with anger. So, he ended up opening up about himself and the loneliness he felt.
Additionally, this theme of loneliness also links with the racism and prejudice Crooks and other
black people had to feel. Due to discrimination, Crooks had to be by himself, which is probably
one of the reasons on why Crooks had placed a barrier around himself as he had to deal with the
prejudice that faced him. The novella, Of Mice and Men, states that They play cards in there, but
[he] can t because [he s] black, which shows us how Crooks was never allowed to be with

Does The Otl Mathematics Instruction For Conceptual...
Does the OTL Mathematics Instruction for Conceptual Understanding Matter?
Some studies have shown that preservice teachers and in service elementary teachers have
knowledge gaps in their mathematics content and pedagogical content knowledge (e.g., Ball, 1990;
Ma, 1999). The knowledge that teachers have for teaching influence their instruction and the lack of
such can limit how they teach mathematics for understanding (Borko Putnam, 1996). For this
reason, teacher preparation programs and professional development forums should emphasize and
provide the opportunities for learning to teach mathematics for conceptual understanding. Not only
do such opportunities build on preservice teachers mathematics content knowledge, but they also
introduce them to the new ways of teaching mathematics that they may not have experienced in
their earlier mathematics learning.
The findings from this study suggest that frequent experiences in learning mathematics for
conceptual understanding through particular strategies is related to an increase in PSTs knowledge
about teaching mathematics. In particular, more opportunities that allow PSTs to learn to show
why a procedure works was significantly related to the average PSTs increase in content knowledge
between the teacher preparation programs in the United States. Similarly, within the Polish
generalist, United States specialist, and Russian teacher preparation programs the relationships
between the OTL to show why procedures work and

For humans to go faster than they have ever gone before they had to research many different
things spend both money and time to finally reach this goal and this paper will take you through
that process of research done for that goal to be reached. With the possibility of faster flight
people will always want to see how fast they can push the aircraft they design. The development
and research that went into the aircrafts that helped break the sound barrier, took a long time and
many people co operation. But after many years of research and testing with several different
types of aircrafts they were able to succeed in producing an aircraft that could surpass the sound
barrier and bring us into a new era of flight. The ideas on how to get an aircraft up to the speed
and the designs of many researcher had to come together in order for this feat to be accomplished.
From the engineering stages of the project to the research on how the air around the aircraft will
react to an object moving through it to at such high speeds and the equipment that needed to be
made that can used during the flight all had to be crated for this to work (John D. Anderson, Jr.

Poor Living Conditions In The 1800s
In the 1800s and 1900s one problem was the poor living conditions in New York City and other
cities. In the 19th century, more and more people began crowding including immigrants seeking a
better life than the one they left behind. In New York City, buildings that had once been single
family dwellings were increasingly divided into multiple living spaces (known as tenements) to
accommodate this growing population. These buildings were most often cramped from the number
of people who lived there, poorly lit and and lacked indoor plumbing and proper ventilation.
Jacob August Riis was a Danish American social reformer, muckraking journalist and social
documentary photographer. He is known for using his photographic and journalistic talents to help
the impoverished in New York City. While living in New York, Riis experienced povertyand so he
attempted to reduce the bad living conditions of poor people by exposing their living conditions to
the middle and upper classes.
In 1890, Jacob Riis published his most famous work, How the Other Half Lives, a book that used

wouldn t survive. When European immigrants came, they brought opinions that said children
should work. That s when children really started working. When it all started it went widespread
and no one became concerned when children were not getting a modest education. By 1900,
millions of children were working so as their families could survive. Immigration only made the
child problem worse. Children worked at many jobs, anything that gave them an income to give to
their family. The most popular were factories and mines. Other jobs were working in fields picking
cotton and working in the streets. Working in the street jobs included shining shoes, selling

How Does Barbara Ehrenreich Use Ethos In Nickel And Dimed
In the book, Nickel and Dimed, Barbara Ehrenreich leaves behind her lifestyle as a journalist for
one of a low wage worker. As we follow Ehrenreich on her journey, we are exposed to the
struggles the working poor have to face as Ehrenreich attempts to survive on a minimum wage pay.
In hopes of changing the way readers perceive its working poor, Ehrenreich uses rhetorical
strategies conveyed throughout the book, in particular, ethos, logos, and pathos.
Ehrenreich uses the rhetorical strategy, ethos, to effectively support her argument in her novel.
Right from the beginning, she tells the reader that I have a Ph.D. in biology, and I didn t get it by
sitting at a desk and fiddling with numbers (page 3). From this, we can tell that she is definitely ...

In the introduction of the book, Ehrenreich begins to provide the reader with statistics, such as
according to the National Coalition for the Homeless, in 1998 the year I started this project it took,
on average, nationwide, an hourly wage of $8.89 to afford a one bedroom apartment, and the
Preamble Center for Public Policy was estimating that the odds against a typical welfare
recipient s landing a job at such a living wage were about 97 to 1 (page 3) and continues to
present data throughout the story. These type of statistics are also included in the footnotes at
the bottom of several pages, along with cited sources. In Ehrenreich s evaluation at the end of
the book, she reflects on how she did as a low wage worker and points out the problems with
being one. She uses her experiences to support her argument, for instance, Why isn t this
resistance met by more effective counterpressure from the workers themselves? In evading and
warding off wage increases, employers are of course behaving in an economically rational
fashion; their business isn t to make their employees more comfortable and secure but to
maximize the bottom line. (page 204) Ehrenreich s use of logos gives the reader reason to follow
along with her claims since she has provided the research and proof needed to back up her

A Comparative Advantage And Export Capital Intensive...
Companies tend to be most competitive when they can benefit from comparative advantage in
their country of origin. According to the Heckscher Ohlin model which incorporates realistic
production characteristics into Ricardo s (1817) theory of comparative advantage, capital
abundant countries will export capital intensive goods. (Suranovic, 2006) Putting this theorem
into perspective, the USA has a comparative advantage and exports capital intensive commodities
based on its relative abundance of cheap capital. (Salvatore, 2014) This is true in the case of the
aerospace industry as evident through the fact that capital goods, including aircraft, make up 49%
of the USA s exports (CIA, 2016) and aircraft alone contributes $119 billion of the $538 billion of
these capital goods exported. (Amadeo, 2016) This ability to export so many capital goods lies
within how technologically advanced the USA has become over recent years, as proven through its
Networked Readiness ranking of 5th in the world. (World Economic Forum, 2016) Evidently, the
government wishes to develop this comparative advantage in order to help the competitive business
environment thrive. They do so by continuous investment into technology and communications, as
shown in the following graph, through programmes such as the National Broadband Plan.
(Passport, 2016) This gives US operated businesses immediate resources for effective innovation
and the opportunity to advance in terms of technology

  • 2. The Diagnostic Criteria For Smartphone Addiction The diagnostic criteria for smartphone addiction proposed in this study were based on the population with the currently largest sample size and the diagnoses were validated by psychiatric interviews. Our findings indicated that smartphone addiction has overlapping features with substance related or behavioral addictive disorders, but the unique properties of smartphones, i.e. its excellent accessibility and multiple Internet based applications, contributed to its unique but prevalent addictive behaviors. We proposed that a strict definition for smartphone related functional impairment, requiring two or more functional impairment criteria influenced by smartphone use. This definition is different from the diagnostic criteria for functional impairment in DSM 5. Compared to computer based Internet addiction, the portability of smartphones dampens the severity of functional impairment associated with smartphone addiction, but instead influences multiple domains of an individual s daily life. In addition, because smartphone addiction is a heterogeneous and multi faceted condition [26], we should evaluate the heterogeneity of its functional impairment from different angles. The symptom criteria in this study provided evidence that smartphone addiction has similar psychopathology with the traditional substance use disorders. The core symptoms of substance use disorders are impaired control , which consist of four criteria: (1) use larger amounts/longer, (2) repeated attempts to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Taking a Look at Social Loafing George (1996) stated that individuals who reduce effort when performing collectively than when performing independently and where the individuals performance cannot be acknowledged as excellent and important are called as social loafing (Joseph Timothy 2012). Social loafing is the characteristic of individuals in a part of their academic life. It may be seen as a failure to willingly satisfy the duties and commitments to others because of the perceptionof reduced social pressure. Yet, social loafer or free rider without exerting effort in a teamwill gain benefits from the workof others as the outcome of the team performance is shared by the team members (Weldon Mustari 1988, p. 33). Many researchers study about how social loafing is affected by the duty and self discipline problems. Robbins (1995, p.337) found out some explanations which are linked to Expectancy Values Theory to interpret why social loafing happens in the workplace. This theory mentioned that the behaviour human perform is guided by their values, beliefs and social circumstances (Shepperd Taylor 1999, p.1148). It assumes that employees make choice according to their perception of their given behaviour will come out with desired outcome that is value. When these three conditions are met, employees will feel motivated and exert more effort in their team work (Eccles Wigfield, 2002, p. 120). For instance, Starbucks starts stock ownership program to keep their employees motivated ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I have been accepted to the best private middle school in Chicago with a full ride. All four years for free. I couldn t believe what just happened to me. This was the highest achievement that I have ever gotten. It seems a little to good to be true. I could see my mother with a pitty smile on her face and kind of scared. So pregnancies after that might suffer due to the abortion that happened years ago. Both of these factors would really cause it to be very difficult for a woman to conceive again as well as be able to carry the baby to full term. The main character Antigone openly admits that she dislikes how Thebes is being run. Even though she is alone on her beliefs, she strongly disagrees with Creon decisions, and wants the world to know her deeds. Antigone s deeds end in her inevitable death, but in her passing achieves her objectives. The writer uses her to show how much a single person can affect society, but also shows one must endure the sacrifice to achieve progress. Throughout the story we find the characters must stand by what they believe in and face the consequences to ensure change. Many believe that the divine word holds more power than man, Antigone is one of these people and hold the divines laws higher than man s laws. On the other hand, Creon believes that holding power is the way of life and tries to uphold his laws over the deity laws. Creon does this when the brothers Polyneices and Eteocles kill each other and Polyneices is designated as a traitor. Creon decides to prohibit the people from burying Polyneices properly and follow the god s law to prevent more rebellions. Antigone on the other hand believes that a Creon s law holds no power over her from giving a proper burial. As Antigone is talking to Ismene she states No one shall say I failed him! Usually such differences between related species originate as adaptations to the environment, not as devices for reproductive isolation. Neanderthals were hunter gatherers who moved across Europe with the advance and retreat of the Ice Age glaciers. Their total population probably never exceeded 100,000. From 180,000 to 130,000years ago large glaciers covered much of Europe and Neanderthal remains are scarce. After 130,000years ago, tool technology developed rapidly to become the classic Neanderthal technology called the Mousterian tradition. They created sets of tools with great variety and finely trimmed cutting edges. Flint stone properly chipped forms a cutting edge sharper than a steel scalpel. Neanderthals were adapted to the cold northern climate, with short limbs and stocky bodies and flourished during a warmer interglacial period. Organizational Structure is a system that defines the levels of hierarchy within an organization. The organizational structure classifies each job, explains its function, and who it reports to within the organization. Based on my scores they suggest I prefer to work in a mechanistic structure rather than a organic structure. In a mechanistic structure people work separately and specialize on only one task. Perhaps it could be a combination of your upbringing, horrific ideas about the punishment which our nation inflicts on those who violate its more serious laws that keeps people frightened just enough to lead a law abiding life. Despite it s success in keeping dangerous offenders off the streets, the American prison system fails in fulfilling its original design of restoring criminals to being productive members of society, it is also extremely expensive and wastes our precious tax dollars. As children, most people learn obedience through punishment. When we do something wrong , one or several privileges are taken away by our parents. Depending on the severity of a mistake, such punishment may last for a very short time or in some cases it may even be permanent by nature. Many parents inflict a common punishment on their young children of not allowing them to watch television for a certain amount of time which is usually measured in days or in weeks. However, Puritans were not supposed to place all of their efforts in the relationship on Earth, but rather, to glorify God through their union. Monster Study Stuttering Theory The Monster Study Wendell Johnson devised the Monster study in 1939 at the Soldiers and Sailors Orphans Home in Dayton, Iowa to find the true cause of stuttering, which he and many others suffered from (Reynolds, 2003). The popular theory at the time was that stuttering was a physiological defect, meaning the brain s signals misfired; however, Johnson believed that stuttering was a learned behavior and could be unlearned (Reynolds, 2003, n.pag). To see if his hypothesis was correct, Johnson devised an experiment now known as the Monster Study. Before he could begin he requested the help of one of his students at the time, Mary Tudor, to carry out the experiment for him. Before the experiment Tudor and 5 other graduate students ranked twenty six children s speech on a scale of one to five, one being poor and five being fluent (Reynolds, 2003, n.pag). According to Richard Hollis book Swiss Graphic Design, there are at least three factors that account for the Swiss style (Hollis, R. 2006, P9), these being the country s location, the language and the culture. There is evidence to prove that there are at least 2 other factors, especially for the origin of the style, which is shown in the book, along with several others. Although not directly linked to the foundation of the style itself, these 2 other factors include the designers and the typography, after all, it is known as the International Typographic Style. In this essay we will be discussing each of them in turn, and explaining views as to why they were important and what effect they had on graphic design in the mid twentieth century. We begin with one of the most important factors, the designers themselves. Without the designers to create the style, there would be no style. Josef MuМ€ller Brockmann was a leading figure of Swiss graphic design in the 1950 s and 1960 s. He began his path towards the Swiss style in the early 1930 s as a student of Ernst ... Since the 1960 s America has added, removed, and adjusted laws against homosexuals. On May 17, 2004, Massachusetts becomes the first state in the United State to legalize same sex marriage. The Massachusetts Chief Justice concluded, to deny the protections, benefits, and obligations conferred by civil marriage to gay couples was unconstitutional because it denied the dignity and equality of all individuals and made them second class citizens. Russia 1856-1860 From 1856 to 1964 Russia transformed from a backward, agriculturally based country, governed by an autocratic ruler and divided by the feudal system to a global superpower that had nuclear capabilities. These profound changes are attributed to many factors, however through closer examination it can be determined the extent to whether individuals, events such as wars or other circumstances, for example, the geography of Russiaplayed the most significant role in Russia s social, political and economic modernisation from 1856 1964. Individuals played a role in the social modernisation of Russia, in particular, Alexander II and Khrushchev. Many sports and activities require the athlete to do notable amounts of work and expend a fair amount of energy. When an athlete smokes, they will not be able to get the required oxygen to the necessary parts of the body, and therefore will not perform as well. It has been proven that even if you have smoked, when you quit smoking your levels of physical activity will increase8. When taking a glimpse of all the top athletes in the world, it can be noted that none of them are frequent tobacco product users. Another aspect of smoking and the human body is the effect of nicotine on body weight. Nicotine, the drug found in cigarettes, is usually what tends to get smokers addicted to tobacco products. Through many different experiments, it has been shown that smokers tend to weigh less than non smokers9. These tests were done not only by measurement of weight, but by multiple skinfold thickness assessments. In a study done on rats, it was determined that nicotine exposed rats had significantly less carcass fat, suggesting that nicotine effects fat stores. The more nicotine which was given, the less fat the rats had. It was hypothesized that nicotine effected these fat stores was by altering key enzymes in the regulation and uptake of triglycerides such as adipose tissue lipoprotein lipase10. At the beginning of chapter four, Steinbeck presents Crooks as a negro stable buck, then begins to show the readers what Crooks are like through his possessions. Steinbeck introduces Crooks to the readers in this way, so the readers have an idea of what type of life Crooks had lived as a coloured man. So, he ended up opening up about himself and the loneliness he felt. Additionally, this theme of loneliness also links with the racism and prejudice Crooks and other black people had to feel. • 52. Does The Otl Mathematics Instruction For Conceptual... Does the OTL Mathematics Instruction for Conceptual Understanding Matter? Some studies have shown that preservice teachers and in service elementary teachers have knowledge gaps in their mathematics content and pedagogical content knowledge (e.g., Ball, 1990; Ma, 1999). The knowledge that teachers have for teaching influence their instruction and the lack of such can limit how they teach mathematics for understanding (Borko Putnam, 1996). For this reason, teacher preparation programs and professional development forums should emphasize and provide the opportunities for learning to teach mathematics for conceptual understanding. Not only do such opportunities build on preservice teachers mathematics content knowledge, but they also introduce them to the new ways of teaching mathematics that they may not have experienced in their earlier mathematics learning. The findings from this study suggest that frequent experiences in learning mathematics for conceptual understanding through particular strategies is related to an increase in PSTs knowledge about teaching mathematics. In particular, more opportunities that allow PSTs to learn to show why a procedure works was significantly related to the average PSTs increase in content knowledge between the teacher preparation programs in the United States. Similarly, within the Polish generalist, United States specialist, and Russian teacher preparation programs the relationships between the OTL to show why procedures work and ... With the possibility of faster flight people will always want to see how fast they can push the aircraft they design. The development and research that went into the aircrafts that helped break the sound barrier, took a long time and many people co operation. But after many years of research and testing with several different types of aircrafts they were able to succeed in producing an aircraft that could surpass the sound barrier and bring us into a new era of flight. The ideas on how to get an aircraft up to the speed and the designs of many researcher had to come together in order for this feat to be accomplished. From the engineering stages of the project to the research on how the air around the aircraft will react to an object moving through it to at such high speeds and the equipment that needed to be made that can used during the flight all had to be crated for this to work (John D. In the 19th century, more and more people began crowding including immigrants seeking a better life than the one they left behind. In New York City, buildings that had once been single family dwellings were increasingly divided into multiple living spaces (known as tenements) to accommodate this growing population. These buildings were most often cramped from the number of people who lived there, poorly lit and and lacked indoor plumbing and proper ventilation. Jacob August Riis was a Danish American social reformer, muckraking journalist and social documentary photographer. He is known for using his photographic and journalistic talents to help the impoverished in New York City. While living in New York, Riis experienced povertyand so he attempted to reduce the bad living conditions of poor people by exposing their living conditions to the middle and upper classes. According to the Heckscher Ohlin model which incorporates realistic production characteristics into Ricardo s (1817) theory of comparative advantage, capital abundant countries will export capital intensive goods. (Suranovic, 2006) Putting this theorem into perspective, the USA has a comparative advantage and exports capital intensive commodities based on its relative abundance of cheap capital. (Salvatore, 2014) This is true in the case of the aerospace industry as evident through the fact that capital goods, including aircraft, make up 49% of the USA s exports (CIA, 2016) and aircraft alone contributes $119 billion of the $538 billion of these capital goods exported. (Amadeo, 2016) This ability to export so many capital goods lies within how technologically advanced the USA has become over recent years, as proven through its Networked Readiness ranking of 5th in the world. (World Economic Forum, 2016) Evidently, the government wishes to develop this comparative advantage in order to help the competitive business environment thrive. They do so by continuous investment into technology and communications, as shown in the following graph, through programmes such as the National Broadband Plan.
