Jane Campion s The Piano is one of the most intense yet inquisitive films that I have ever
encountered. The film takes us on a climatic roller coaster ride of passionate love, silence and
pride set in the midst of the earthy, muddy climate of New Zealand. The story tells of a woman

that in the spiritual direction relationship, the director is to listen to on an ongoing conversation
between the directee and God. The Holy Spirithas already been at work in the directee s life before
the direction session and will continue to be at work after the session is over. Typical spiritual

divine presence at all? It is important that spiritual direction arises out of inviting and listening to

characteristics of this piece that stood out to me, such as the relationship between the lyrics and
the musical quality and the musical elements that set the tone of the music. At the exposition of
Caroline No there is an eerie drum and cymbal introduction that has a sort of call and response
relationship. The cymbals would play a short melody and the drum beat would follow, this
exchange occurred a couple of times. This exchange between the cymbals and the drums made

In the film the inmates used cigarettes as money, a way to get things in the prison, a feat that
seemed easily accessible in Shawshank at the time, due to the guards taking bribes from

The things in life he didn t understand fascinated Nathaniel Hawthorne. He wrote a few stories in a
