Cell Membrane Permeability
Only uncharged, small, polar molecules, (such as water) and hydrophobic molecules, (such as oxygen,
carbon dioxide) and lipid soluble molecules (such as hydrocarbons) can freely pass across the
membrane. All ions and large polar molecules (such as glucose) are not permeable to the membrane.
Membrane structure
The plasma membrane maintains dynamic homeostasis by separating the internal metabolic events of
the cell from its external environment and controlling the movement of materials into and out of the
cell. The membrane is a double phospholipid membrane, also referred to as a phospholipid bilayer,
and has polar hydrophilic ( water loving ) phosphate heads around the outside and non polar
hydrophobic ( water fearing ) fatty acid tails on the inside of the membrane. Slight variations in these
structure of the fatty acids in the membrane alter the fluidity of the membrane. Phospholipids with
saturated fatty acid pack more tightly, because of the nature of their single carbon bonds. This leads to
a more rigid membrane. Unsaturated fatty acids, which have double carbon bonds, limit packing and
result in a more flexible membrane. Cholesterol molecules distributed throughout the phospholipid
bilayer provide some stability to the plasma membranes of animal cells. At higher temperatures the
cholesterol molecules allow the membrane to be firmer, at lower temperatures they allow for
flexibility.

Artifacts and Creations The most visible level is artifacts and creations. This level of culture is
observable. Artifacts include any visible, verbally or touchable definable elements in an organisation,
such as interior design, decoration, dress code and staff uniform, even speech. All may be visible
standards of culture, but difficult to interpret. Artifacts and creations also may make people know what
a group is achieving. 2. Values and Beliefs Values and beliefs is a level next to visibility. They are the
organisation s stated values and rules of behavior. But they are not directly observable, as behaviors
are. It is how the members represent the organisation both to themselves and to others. This is often
expressed in philosophies and public identity. It can sometimes often be a reflection for the future, of
what the members hope to become. Examples of this would be employee professionalism. Problems
may arise if espoused values by leaders are not in link with the general assumptions of the culture. 3.
Basic Assumptions Basic assumptions is in the deeply core of a culture, it help us to understand a
organisational culture. It is deeply embedded, taken for granted behaviors which is usually
unconscious, but constitute the essence of culture. These assumptions are typically so well integrated
in the office dynamic that they are hard to explain from within. Schein contends

The Tabernacle Research Paper
Let s begin by defining what is a tabernacle? Wikipedia, states that The Tabernacle ( residence or
dwelling place ), according to the Hebrew Bible, was the portable earthly dwelling place for the
Shekinah from the time of the Exodus from Egypt through the conquering of the land of Canaan. In
the Tabernacle, we find God dwelling among His chosen people. Let them construct a sanctuary for
Me, that I may dwell among them. In my paper I hope to explain the Important of the presence of
God, Why is His Presence Important to us and How having His presence make us free in today times.
The Tabernacle was a temporary place of convenience where God met with His chosen people. It was
simply a tent of meeting.
Why was it so importance of God filling the tabernacle? According to Moses, the only thing that truly
distinguishes those who are God s people from those who aren t is the presence of God. If God is with
you, you belong to him; if God is not with you, you don t. So, it is an important topic to understand,
because God s presence is the theme of this chapter of Exodus. Lets look at the word Shekinah.
Although the word does not appear in the Bible, the concept clearly does. The shekinah glory was a
form of a Hebrew word that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But like any relationship, true friendship with God needs nurturing to make the best of it. If you are a
Christian who feels like you are struggling on without the presence of God, then do as Moses did and
bring it all to God. Don t worry about whether you are good enough, or if you have let God down too
much to ever know his presence. Remember, God s presence doesn t depend on you, it depends only
on our mediator: Jesus Christ. If he has taken your sin away, then you have nothing to worry about at
all. There is one crucial difference between the Christian and the non Christian: the Christian knows
the presence of God. Let s treasure it with all our

Air Canada s Business Case Study
Air Canada maintains several defined benefit pension plans, including domestic registered pension
plans, supplemental pension plans and international pension plans. Air Canada s pension funding
obligations may vary significantly based on a wide variety of factors. Any changes to these factors
may result in an increase in Air Canada s obligations. Besides, deteriorating economic conditions or a
prolonged period of low or decreasing interest rates may result in significant increases in Air Canada s
funding obligations, which could result in a huge adverse effect on Air Canada`s business.
Underfunded pension plans, failure or inability by Air Canada to make required cash contributions to

In section 9.8, MD A provides more detailed information on above mentioned issue.
Current legal proceedings
Air Canada is involved in or may be subject to legal proceedings which could negatively impact the
company`s operations. Recently, Air Canada was involved in investigations by competition authorities
relating to Air Canada Cargo division and mandatory retirement issues. MD A explains the details of
the court proceedings.
External risks
Fuel cost, airport user and air navigation fees, foreign exchange, Aeroplan, Star Alliance, key
suppliers, regional carriers, economic and geopolitical conditions, competition.
Fuel cost
Cost of fuel is also one of Air Canada s largest operation costs items. Fuel prices have and may
continue to fluctuate widely depending on many factors and, therefore Air Canada cannot accurately
predict fuel prices. Due to the competitive nature of the airline industry, Air Canada may not be able to
pass an increase in fuel prices to its customers by increasing its fares. In addition, Air Canada may be
unable to appropriately or sufficiently hedge the risks associated with fluctuations in fuel prices.
Furthermore, the impact of lower jet fuel prices could be offset by increased price competition,
resulting in decreased revenues. Significant fluctuations in fuel prices could have a potential negative
effect on Air Canada.

Analysis of Citibank s Web Presence
Analysis of Citibank s Web Presence Website Product Information The bank sells its full slate of
products on its website. At the top of the home page is a list of pull down menus (banking, credit
cards, lending, etc.) which display all of the product offerings. Banking includes all of the traditional
account types that a person can open or, in some way, access. The banking tab displays a menu that
includes types of accounts and services that are available to Citibank s customers. Accounts include
checking and different savings options which can then be pulled down to reveal even more options.
The checking tab has four different types that are geared toward four different categories of customer,
and some specialty accounts. These are named basic checking, the Citibank account, Citigold interest
checking the Citibank student account, and there have even been accounts started specifically with
women in mind (Yadav, 2004). All of the other banking options offer similar pull down menus which
give the customer a variety of options and details what the various options entail. Under the credit
cards tab the company helps the customer choose what type of card they want by asking them to
answer some questions first. The borrower is asked what type of card they are looking for, what
financial options they want and what rewards the individual desires. All of this is to help choose the
appropriate card for the particular customer. The tabs across the top of the page continue with

The Story Of The Donner Party Summary
Stewart, George R. Ordeal by Hunger: The Story of the Donner Party. Boston: Houghton Mifflin,
1960 In the late summer of 1846 a group of pioneers started off on journey to California, later this
party would be known as the Donner Party, little did they know that this journey for a new life out
west would change life as they knew it forever. The book Ordeal by Hunger: The Story of the Donner
Party by George R. Stewart gives an outsiders look to the trails and tribulations of the Donner Parties
journey. George Stewart was a novelist and professor who taught more than fifty years at the
University of California. George makes it very clear from the preface that he believes that the story of
the Donner Party is one of the most amazing stories that came out of the American West and wanted to
write this book to show the extreme conditions a human being can go through and the extremes they ll
take to get through it. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Which is very helpful to the reader because George does a great job at not only describing what type
of status quo each family is but also gives an insight to a bit of each characters personality. In the book
there are characters that seemed to fade into the background at the beginning but the way George
incorporates them tells the story of the Donner Party it can kind of shock you of what role a person
played in the survival of the group compared to the beginning of the book. The fact this book is
written as a nonfictional can come to quite a surprise to some readers. The way the story is told with
twists and turns of suspense and surprise makes it a page turner for any

A Comparison of Two Advertisements Essay
A Comparison of Two Advertisements
I have looked at 2 advertisements, one is from Sugar magazine and the other from Style magazine.
The advertisement from Sugar, is for L Oreal Paris Colour Pulse Hair Dye ; the advertisement from
Style is for Clinique Autumn 2004 close up on lips: modern metallics .
All advertisements are aimed at specific target audiences and as such require different ideas, linguistic
devices and presentational features to attract them. The two advertisements I have chosen have
different target audiences, reflected by the magazines that they come from, the language they use and
the visuals.
Both my chosen advertisements have strong visuals. In the L Oreal Paris one, ... Show more content

This plays with words as it says close up on lips and the image is of close up lips with lipstick on.
In the L Oreal Paris advertisement the slogan is 10 lively colours to make your look pulse as often as
you want! This is different from their usual slogan because you re worth it as they are just talking
about the colour pulse hair die, so they wanted a slogan to link in with the product. The slogan is
effective because the words lively and pulse make it sound alive and the words you and your make it
sound like they are talking to you in person. Also, at the end of the slogan is an exclamation mark
which makes it seem exciting.
The two advertisements both have copy but in the Clinique one it is much longer because it is aimed at
an older target audience who are more interested in the copy content. The Advertisement aimed at the
younger target audience has less copy, containing just the most important facts, because the visual
impact is more to this age group.
The L Oreal Paris advertisement states that it washes out in 8 to 10 shampoos . This is an example of
weasel words because they are not giving an exact figure but a range. This helps advertisers avoid
making untrue statements about a product, words like probably and almost which sound like they are
not entirely certain.
The Clinique advertisement uses lots of

The Similarities Between First And Second-Wave Feminism
Other than the obvious time differences between first and second wave feminism, the real contrasts are
found in what it was the women, and men in some cases, were fighting for. First Wave feminists
mainly fought for suffrage, while their Second Wave sisters fought for a wider range of women s
rights. First wave feminism was brought on by the newly educated female population. Women s
experiences under colonization taught them to see themselves as citizens of oppressed nations, and
many entered into Nationalist politics on behalf of their beleaguered people. (123) Women activists
took an approach of social housekeepers; it was their duty as nurtures of the nation to be involved in
education, social work, public health, poverty, and so on. (126) First Wave feminists were concerned
with gaining access to vote in elections and on other important matters, they were concerned with
gaining access to higher education; they were concerned with temperance, since they were not well
protected under the law from, drunk, abusive husbands. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Women now were educated, voting, and even aiding their states during war times. In the U.S. many
activists were fighting for similar issues addressed by the predecessors, however they were able to
take things further, since there was a precedent. Instead of just gaining access to higher education,
Second Wavers were pushing for Women s Studies classes and departments, and for prominent
historical women to be included in academia. Women in the U.S. were also beginning the enduring
battle of saving the environment. Second Wave feminists brought internal attention to the problems
caused by violence against women and by poor environmental practices.

Difference Between Adam Smith And David Ricardo
Introduction
Wealth of Nations (1776) by Adam Smith and Principles of Economics (1951) by David Ricardo
heralded the formulation international trade theories. To Adam Smith it was the division of labor that
reduces cost production and that would ensure competitiveness in the international markets. Smith
contended that the problem of monetary adjustment to countries having continuous trade surplus could
be solved by automatic adjustments. Basic premises of the trade theory were formulated by David
Ricardo. Free trade theory as opposed to Mercantilists trade protection was championed by Adam
Smith and David Ricardo. For Smith and Ricardo free was mechanism to increase the productive

When demand elasticity for the same good is different in different countries there is a possibility of
subsidized exporting of goods. There is one more possibility that there are some countries that are
historically above others and have cost advantage of producing some goods and they can offer goods
at lower price than others. In such as situation countries will provide subsidies to industries whose cost
of production is high to enable them to reap the benefit of scale economies. This will pave ways for
advanced countries to follow aggressive strategic trade. A vagary of history determines what a country
produces and exports rather the resources available. History and accident play a crucial role in
determining the location of production in the world map Krugman, 1994). Economists suggested that

Both the traditional free trade version and new international trade theories failed address the dynamic

Black And Decker Ergo Electric Can Opener Analysis
You are hosting a party and you want people to stay out of the kitchen and enjoy themselves. But for
some reason everyone always ends up in the kitchen. The kitchen is where you and your friends sit
and chat over a hot cuppa, having that International Coffee moment. Your children do their homework
at the kitchen table. With their friends they raid the refrigerator. The kitchen is truly the heart of the
home. Feng shui places great importance on the kitchen. Placing the stove in the proper location to
benefit the cook and thereby the whole family is fundamental. It is also necessary to have the correct
relationship between the stove and water in the kitchen. What you see upon entering the kitchen and

I have been lured in by so many that just won t worth the money. They look appealing as they always
work exactly as they should on television. There are, however, some kitchen gadgets that I heavily
rely on and will always have in my kitchen. Here are my top 5 kitchen gadgets. Number five on my
list is the Black and Decker Ergo electric can opener. This can opener is very nice. When our old
electric can opener finally went out after ten years of service, my husband picked up this one. It s
cordless and rechargeable. To use, just clamp it onto a can, press the handle and let go. There is no
need to hold it as it travels by itself around the can, stopping once the lid has been completely cut.
Cleanup is easy as the cutting mechanism easily pops off the unit. It comes with a charging base. This
is great for my kitchen that has very little counter space and limited electrical outlets. Rival Hand
Mixer is number four on my list of top kitchen gadgets. The mixer comes with own cup that has a
spout for easy pouring. I use this every morning to fluff up the eggs before cooking. The hand mixer
has a low and high speed. Cleanup is a breeze and doesn t take up that much space to store. The only
thing that would make this hand mixer better is if it were cordless. Black and Decker Handy Chopper
Plus is number three. This small, electric chopper makes chopping anything a breeze. I have chopped
everything from onions or Oreo cookies, and it does a great job on everything. The chopper is small so
it takes up little counter and cabinet space. The parts are easily cleaned, and you can store them on the
base so when you are ready to use again all the parts are there. It is easy to operate. Put the bowl on
the base, place the blade in it put in your items to chop and secure the lid. Then press the button for

Introduction of Disease Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), also known as acute lymphoid or
lymphocytic leukemia, is a cancer of the white blood cells (McCoy, 2015). More specifically, it is a
cancerous conversion and procreation of lymphoid progenitor cells in the blood, extramedullary sites,
and in the bone marrow (Terwilliger, Abdul Hay, 2017). In 2017, 62,130 people were expected to be
diagnosed with leukemia and there were an estimated 363,794 people living with or in remission from

The abnormal behavior of the white blood cells decreases the body s ability to fight off infections and
lead to a decrease of other blood cells. ALL is deadlier in adults but has a high survival rate in
children. Most children are cured after treatment and the number of adults in remission has grown in
the past decades.

An Overview of The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe Essays
The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe was one book out of a collection that reveals The Chronicles
of Narnia. It was written by Clive Staples Lewis, better known as Jack Lewis. In this story, Lewis uses
his characters to address several key points of interest such as: betrayal, forgiveness, and pride. Lewis
uses these key points to reflect on Christian themes. This essay will compare Deep and Deeper Magic
from the Dawn of Time , the significance of the cracking of the Stone Table, and the role playing of

Edmund s character is a representation of man because we do sinful deeds, but we are never too far
gone that redemption is not an option. The story displays this when Edmund is being mean and
deceitful and then slowly transforms into an admirable, brave warrior. When the witch was defeated
Peter says, It was all Edmund s doing, Aslan. We d have been beaten if it hadn t been for him (p.195).
Aslan, the lion king epitomizes the greatness of Narnia and the creatures that it inhabits. Aslan
displays Christ like traits by having power that is unmatched and being unquestionably benevolent. He
shows forgiveness after rescuing Edmund from the White Witch. Aslan tells his brother and sisters,
Here is your brother and there is no need to talk to him about what is past (p.153).
Just as Christ separates our transgressions from as far as the east is from the west. Later, he sacrifices
his life for Edmund, just as Christ sacrificed his life for all of mankind. This sacrificial expression was
governed by the mystical laws set forth by The Emperor Beyond The Sea.
The Emperor Beyond The Sea is Aslan s father. He is the ultimate God of Narnia and has been around
since before the dawn of time. He has set forth mystical laws that govern the creatures of Narnia just
as God did in the beginning. There was the word and the word was with God.
Father Christmas comes into the story to spread good news, to let the readers know

Wapusk National Park of Canada
Physical Aspects: At an area of 11,375 square kilometres Wapusk National Park is Canada s 37th
national park. Wapusk National Park is in the Hudson Plains, there are not many visitor facilities
making this park truly wild and undisturbed. This is to protect and preserve the fragile tundra
environment. In my poster there are a variety of animals, trees, plants and birds that exist in the Park.
Most of Wapusk National Park is made up of bog and tundra. In the summer the park s marshy
wetlands and peat bog make it difficult for visitors to navigate safely. I colored in the majority of my
poster white because there is an abundance of snowy weather, but this park also contains wetlands so I
colored parts of my poster with green and blue.
As a result of the high latitude the climate is cold and another factor is that it is near the Arctic climate
region. The majority of the year it is quite chilly and the temperature rarely surpasses twenty degrees
Celsius. However when it does go above ten degrees Celsius many birds migrate to this park, like the
snow geese I illustrated beside the park s monitoring centre. The park only has about four five months
above zero degrees, and since the area is tundra there is permafrost also the area has very poor
drainage causing the wetlands. Overall, the climate is cold, with a very large temperature range with
moderate relief precipitation. There is a wide array of different types of wildlife and vegetation in

Global Warming And The Greenhouse Effect
Global warming is the increase in the average surface temperature of the Earth due to the effect of the
buildup of greenhouse gases, due to deforestation and burning fossil fuels which causes the heat to be
trapped that would otherwise escape from the earth. To understand global warming, you need to
understand the greenhouse effect. The greenhouse effect is actually essential for life on earth to exist
as it allows the planet to remain warm enough to sustain life. For example if we consider for moment
a simplistic comparison of a car parked in the sun. The rays of the sun enter the car through the
windows and some of the heat is absorbed by items inside the car (seats, dashboard etc). These objects
will in turn begin to release heat and some of this heat escapes back through the windows but some of
the heat is reflected back into the car. The result is that more heat enters the car than is able to escape
it and the interior of the car warms up. So if you think of the earth s atmosphere as the car s interior.
The landscape and structures on earth can be seen as the cars seats and dashboard. The role of the cars
windows is played by certain things within the earth s atmosphere such as carbon dioxide, methane
gas and water vapour which absorb the heat reflected by the earth below. These are known as
greenhouse gasses.
When there are more greenhouse gasses present in the atmosphere, more heat can be retained leading
to a rise in the temperature of our planet. This is what I

Hydrogen as an Alternative Fuel Essays
Hydrogen as an Alternative Fuel
What is Hydrogen?
The simplest and lightest fuel is hydrogen gas (H2). Hydrogen is in a gaseous state at atmospheric
pressure and ambient temperatures. Hydrogen is being explored for use in combustion engines and
fuel cell electric vehicles. On a volumetric basis, the energy density of hydrogen is very low under
ambient conditions. This presents greater transportation and storage hurdles than for liquid fuels.
Storage systems being developed include compressed hydrogen, liquid hydrogen, and physical or
chemical bonding between hydrogen and a storage material (for example, metal hydrides). The ability
to create hydrogen from a variety of resources and its ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hydrogen burns in air at concentrations in the range of 4 to 75 percent by volume (methane burns at
5.3 to 15 percent concentrations by volume). The highest burning temperature of hydrogen is 2,318
degrees Celsius and is reached at 29 percent concentration by volume in air.
Hydrogen Benefits
Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions
Greenhouse gases are thought to be responsible for changes in global climate. They trap excess heat
from the sun s infrared radiation that would otherwise escape into space, much like a greenhouse is
used to trap heat. When we drive our cars, and light, heat, and cool our homes, we generate
greenhouse gases. But if we used hydrogen in very high efficiency fuel cells for our transportation and
to generate power, we could significantly reduce the GHG emissions especially if the hydrogen is
produced using renewable resources, nuclear power, or clean fossil technologies.
Reduce Air Pollution
The combustion of fossil fuels by electric power plants, vehicles, and other sources is responsible for
most of the smog and harmful particulates in the air. Fuel cells powered by pure hydrogen emit no
harmful pollutants. Fuel cells that use a reformer to convert fuels such as natural gas, methanol, or
gasoline to hydrogen do emit small amounts of air

The Lesson By Toni Bambara Analysis
If you live in America your life should be better, fuller and richer for everyone, but if you belong in
the working class or the poor class, this might still be impossible. You might be able to have a job, a
place to live, but you will not be able to have all the other resources the upper class has. For example,
time off from work, vacations, education, or even afford you own house, this might be the biggest
struggles for working families. This paper will examine how minorities in, The Lesson and Volar deal
with the difficult effects of socioeconomic class.

The Code established trade practices consisting of the block booking system, admission price
discrimination, and the formation of clearance and zoning boards. Block booking was a practice in
which motion picture companies would sell their movies in blocks in a package deal to the exhibitors.
Even though exhibitors were given information about the films they were licensing like who starred in
it, what it was about, etc. the films were licensed without viewing the movie at the time of contracting
(Klein, 2000, p. 431), which meant that the movie studios could even profit off of bad productions as
these blocks were sold as a bulk all or nothing deal. This meant that if the exhibitors wanted one
movie out of the entire block, they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The only viable way to make profits was to rely on the novelty of an early run of a new release to
attract audiences. The problem with such a reliance was that runs in theaters were regulated by the
Clearance and Zoning boards, which were set up as another practice under the Code in an attempt to
organize distribution of films in the nation. It arranged theaters in different regions on the marketing
pattern of zoning, clearance and run. The country was divided into thirty markets, compartmentalized
into zones, and classified by runs that would range from fourteen days to forty two days or more with
a potential of running for more than a year in large markets (Schuchman, Balio, 1994). This practice
gave the Board, which was dominated by the Big 5, the power to control which movie would play
when and where. This was specifically important as movies that were already viewed by the potential
audience, would not draw in the same patronage as it would in the first run. Consequently whoever got
the right to show the movie first would stand to make the most profit. It was very obvious that this
would be a potential source of discrimination against independent exhibitors as the Big 5 would favor
their own exhibition houses over that of independent exhibitors. With all three practices, it was clear
that the intention was to increase profits. Survival of businesses was very precarious as many

A Review On Coaching And Mentoring
Text Purpose
This book is a comprehensive review of coaching and mentoring and how it can be implemented in a
variety of settings and for multiple purposes. It is evidenced based and requires the reader to think
differently about coaching and mentoring. The authors go beyond the research in challenging the
reader to pay attention to the wider implications of coaching and mentoring. In the second part of the
book, there are strategies to overcome and embrace influences that can affect the coaching and
mentoring process. This book is ideal for anyone wanting the research behind coaching and
mentoring.

Part Two consists of the regulatory and practice issues found in coaching and mentoring. A thorough
review of the influence of power, the development and learning networks, the use of technology, and
the organizational issues such as purpose and goal orientation in coaching and mentoring are
developed throughout this section. Part Three focuses on the practice of supervision and standards
while exploring some of the contemporary diversity issues facing coaching and mentoring. Part Four
brings together all the above topics and moves toward a theory of coaching and mentoring. This
section concludes with a review of the emerging concerns from coaching and mentoring.
The authors point out that the history of mentoring is extensive and began with a more mature and
experienced person engaging in a relationship with a less experienced person. The central purpose of
both coaching and mentoring is to transfer specific knowledge and skills from one to the other with
the intent of fostering independence (Garvey, Stokes, Megginson, 2014). Garvey et al., (2014)
distinguish the difference between coaching and mentoring. According to the authors, coaching is the
act of facilitating and mentoring is the practice of giving advice and expert recommendations (Garvey
et al., 2014). The authors believe that coaches listen, ask questions, and enable mentees to discover for
themselves what is right for them, whereas mentors talk about their personal experience assuming it

The Anglo Saxon Era Of Rich History And Reflected Literature
The Anglo Saxon Era of Rich History and Reflected Literature
The Anglo Saxon Period began in 449 and ended in 1066 AD. This was a time of Viking conquering
other nations, patriotism, and Pagan to Christian religious conversion. There are only few recorded
authors of this era as a result of literary works such as Beowulf, Wife s Lament, and The Seafarer
being passed down orally through generations of time. The literature serves as a reflection of this
ancient time rather than having an impact on this time period. This was a period of great conquering,
pride and honor, and Christian expansion with recorded literature that exaggerated and symbolized
what was occurring.
This time remains the darkest, the least documented in British history ... Show more content on

The religious transformation was a slow but progressive growth. It is definitely certain that the
characters of these oral stories were exaggerated or even make believe and as a matter of fact after
much studies of the Roman Empire, there has even been controversy over King Arthur s existence.
(Wood 39) The question is, what happened in Britain after the fall of the Roman Empire? Bound up
with that, there is a second question: did there exist at this time a war leader called Arthur? (Wood,
39). This shows that not only were the obviously exaggerated heroic characters fake but also some of
the seemingly realistic characters were as well. This indicates that these stories were definitely
exaggerated for entertainment purposes, but at the same time, used to describe the battles, the honor
and events that happened at this time. There are three main literary works of this time period:
Beowulf, Wife s Lament, and The Seafarer. Each literary work has unique symbolism and can be
analyzed and interpreted to show what they represent. Beowulf highly focuses on battling, one having
honor for their kingdom, and even has some religious representation. Beowulf is an epic poem, which
is defined as a long, narrative poem about a larger than life, legendary character in pursuit of a goal of
national importance. Also, Beowulf s character is classified as an epic hero, which is defined as one
who constitutes superior strength and excellent ethics, one who does many valorous

The Environmental Impact Of Electric Vehicles
Over the last several years, electric vehicles and hybrid electric gasoline vehicles have been gaining
popularity as a more environmentally friendly transportation option. Experts agree that the recent
innovations in technology are impressive, but some question the veracity of the statements made about
emissions and environmental impact of electric cars and hybrids. Currently, electric vehicles are
expensive to produce and create more emissions than gasoline vehicles during the manufacturing
process. However, over the entire life of the car electric vehicles claim to have a lesser effect on the
environment than gasoline cars. If true, then it is possible that greenhouse gas pollution and global
warming could be significantly reduced over time. As the United States continues to develop more
effective ways to generate and store renewable energy, electric cars will become more significant.
There have been numerous studies done on the effect of electric cars on the environment, but not all of
them agree. Some only analyze part of the broader issue, while others seem to have obvious biases as
the center of their argument. One article, Electric Vehicles: Just How Green Are They? by Pamela
Worth explains that the average gasoline powered vehicle gets 29 miles per gallon. Worth uses this
statistic to show that after production, electric vehicles are cleaner than the average gasoline powered
vehicle in all areas of the United States (Worth). Another piece, Gasoline vs

Importance Of School Day In American School
Length of day in American Schools
The American Educational system, which many of us students have become familiar with, did not
come about instantaneously. What we have now is the result of many decades of development and
policy making in legislation. Though Parochial schools were used in the U.S. as early as 1750, and
Government funded public schools began cropping up after the Revolutionary war, our educational
system s pace of development was relatively slow up until around the mid 19th century when the first
states began passing laws that made schooling compulsory to all those who had the opportunity to
attend. By the early 1900s, twelve years of education became the standard across the nation, a
standard that has withstood the test of time and is still in place today. The average school day in the
U.S. is 6.5 hours, and students are expected to attend 180 total days of school per grade term. To
supplement this, on average the U.S. spends more per capita on education than any other country in
the world. Though we spend much, the results don t directly translate to nation wide success in
schools. In 2014, the U.S. was ranked 14th globally in education. Many attribute this to the average
length of the school day in America, and others propose an overall increase in total instructional hours
within American schools.
As stated earlier, the average school day in America is 6.5 hours long, beginning at around 7:30am and
ending between 2 to 3pm. Within this time, students are

Obey or Disobedience
AMO Obey Or Disobedience ROUGH DRAFT In the story by Fromm, his outlook on obedience and
disobedience is that we have the ability to obey but the capacity to disobey is something that society
has influenced us to do naturally. Obedience and disobedience has always been part of a never ending
cycle that is consistently going round and round. Throughout history it has been evident that soldier s
obey their commander s, that knights uphold the ruling of their king, and that their disobedience is
about the shifting of power. So, too, is our nation being part of that cycle and repeating history. Our
nation s soldiers obey orders given by the President. Whether they are right or wrong it is an order
they obeyed countless of times. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We make necessary choices in order for us to be accepted in society, yet we challenge what we were
taught and conform to our perspective of what society wants for us to be. You always hear the term,
There are two types of people... Being that those two types are the Yin and Yang, the lovers and the
haters, it is the opposites that make the stereotype of each other. In the Ashe article, it talked about
how we conform to the position we are given. If you were one of the poisoners, you would imitate and
believe that you are one. If you are a guard, you would play the part and show the power you hold to
those that are beneath you. That is society; those that are on top would always look down upon those
that are beneath them and those beneath would do almost anything to bask in their glory. And then
there are those that would do what they can to bring them down. Society has naturally catered to those
that are disobedient, it may be from fear of their new found power and wealth, or it may be that they
are righteous and know what their actions are for the good of all. We are the one that put them on the
pedestal of admiration. We learned from a young age to honor and respect those that put themselves
on the line for the good of the nation. Being raised into the military lifestyles was hard and very
obedient. My

The Wife s Story By Ursula K Le Guin
The Wife s Story Ursula K. Le Guin s purpose in The Wife s Story is to demonstrate that no one is as
open with their secrets as you think they are. She expresses this through characterization and
foreshadowing through the narrator s eyes. By contrasting the husband being a good husband and one
who was nice with his family with him acting unusual by not wanting to talk about it and turning into
the hateful one, Le Guin illustrates the husband acting secretive and not as open as he used to be with
his wife. The husband altering to a human represents his secretive behavior, whilst the husband being
purely good and a hard worker represents his more open persona. Likewise, Guin writes in a format
that allows the narrator to speak

In A Dark Wood Analysis
In late medieval Europe, there was a great deal of innovative technology. Since there was law and
order in society because of rigid rules and traditions, merchants and artisans had the opportunity to
devote time to innovation, rather than having to deal with crime and uncertainty. Powerful government
and religious figures such as kings and popes were well respected by all of the subjects. Additionally,
the Catholic Church had a significant role in influencing political leaders as well as merchants,
artisans, and peasants. Law and order was kept because people followed the rules and valued honor
based on a strong code of ethics and religious dogma. In a Dark Wood by Michael Cadnum accurately
portrays a period of growth in innovative technology ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In medieval Europe, there was an abundance of advanced technology. Even though the invention of
reins predated the medieval period, their use became very prevalent and allowed good control of
horses for battle and transportation. Candum writes of a character using this innovation: ...he tightened
his hold on the reins (87). Since people in medieval Europe had reins available to them, In a Dark
Wood realistically reflects the technology of the time. Additionally, there were other practical items
similar to the reins, such as weapons used for battle. Examples of these weapons include broadswords,
battering rams, and trebuchets. Medieval society also had horses and other animals to use as a form of
transportation during travel and battle. In a Dark Wood also highlights further technologies used in
both historical and fictional medieval Europe. Weapons, such as the battering ram and the crossbow,
enhanced warfare in general, and made it easier for the side with the most advanced technologies to
win. As stated in a book about a late medieval battle written by Ernst Jünger, there were indeed many
newly developed weapons used in battle during these times. Junger refers to these advances with this
phrase: ...their mounted and artillery guns... (Jünger). Considering that there were frequent
advancements in technology, Cadnum s story of what happened in fictional medieval Europe matches
up with what occurred in

Labor Relation In The Workplace
Introduction
The age of technology has changed communication in both our personal and professional lives with
the advent of social media. Facebook, Linkedin, Twitter, and others have global connections to the
external world. The readiness of I pads, laptops and smart phones has provided both the individual and
organizations alike to have instantaneous engagement to a broad and large audience over one or all of
the social media networks. The relationship between the employee and the organization can be tested
if company social media policies are to broad or restrict the employee s rights under the labor laws

Batman Good Vs Evil
Good versus evil is one of the oldest morality plays in human history, a glorious battle between the
forces that would protect life and those who would destroy it. But who do you cheer when you are
faced with the impossible decision of choosing a side in a contest between evil versus evil, between
dumb vs. dumber, between Godzilla and Mothra?
Unlike the current Batman VS. Superman movie, where two gladiators battle it out in some empty
warehouse district because both believe the other is a threat to the welfare of the cities they protect,
when Godzilla does battle with Mothra, they could care less their fight is destroying Tokyo, because
these two monsters are only fighting for themselves and not for the good of the people. Donald Trump

Maher went on to add,
The biggest difference between the two men is that Trump is the most thin skinned person in human
history, and reacts to the smallest slight with the hair trigger wounded ego of a male flight attendant,
whereas Ted Cruz is immune to insults because he s learned to live in a world where everyone
everywhere has always hated him.
As the GOP continues to implode, and as a field of 17 Republican candidates is narrowed down to
three, one of whom, John Kasich, has virtually zero chance of capturing enough votes to ensure
nomination, the very real prospect on a Trump or Cruz Presidency becoming reality is pretty
terrifying. Thankfully we have people like Bill Maher to keep us laughing as the political world burns
beneath the feet of these two rampaging monsters.

The Hunger Games and The Maze Runner are two best selling novels that both embrace the latest

addition, the main character in the Hunger Games, Katniss and the main character in The Maze

thereby making myself unforgettable (242). Katniss is determined to win the Games and fight for her

  • 2. Cell Membrane Permeability Only uncharged, small, polar molecules, (such as water) and hydrophobic molecules, (such as oxygen, carbon dioxide) and lipid soluble molecules (such as hydrocarbons) can freely pass across the membrane. All ions and large polar molecules (such as glucose) are not permeable to the membrane. Membrane structure The plasma membrane maintains dynamic homeostasis by separating the internal metabolic events of the cell from its external environment and controlling the movement of materials into and out of the cell. The membrane is a double phospholipid membrane, also referred to as a phospholipid bilayer, and has polar hydrophilic ( water loving ) phosphate heads around the outside and non polar hydrophobic ( water fearing ) fatty acid tails on the inside of the membrane. Slight variations in these structure of the fatty acids in the membrane alter the fluidity of the membrane. Phospholipids with saturated fatty acid pack more tightly, because of the nature of their single carbon bonds. This leads to a more rigid membrane. Unsaturated fatty acids, which have double carbon bonds, limit packing and result in a more flexible membrane. Cholesterol molecules distributed throughout the phospholipid bilayer provide some stability to the plasma membranes of animal cells. At higher temperatures the cholesterol molecules allow the membrane to be firmer, at lower temperatures they allow for flexibility. Artifacts include any visible, verbally or touchable definable elements in an organisation, such as interior design, decoration, dress code and staff uniform, even speech. All may be visible standards of culture, but difficult to interpret. Artifacts and creations also may make people know what a group is achieving. 2. Values and Beliefs Values and beliefs is a level next to visibility. They are the organisation s stated values and rules of behavior. But they are not directly observable, as behaviors are. It is how the members represent the organisation both to themselves and to others. This is often expressed in philosophies and public identity. It can sometimes often be a reflection for the future, of what the members hope to become. Examples of this would be employee professionalism. Problems may arise if espoused values by leaders are not in link with the general assumptions of the culture. 3. Basic Assumptions Basic assumptions is in the deeply core of a culture, it help us to understand a organisational culture. Wikipedia, states that The Tabernacle ( residence or dwelling place ), according to the Hebrew Bible, was the portable earthly dwelling place for the Shekinah from the time of the Exodus from Egypt through the conquering of the land of Canaan. In the Tabernacle, we find God dwelling among His chosen people. Let them construct a sanctuary for Me, that I may dwell among them. In my paper I hope to explain the Important of the presence of God, Why is His Presence Important to us and How having His presence make us free in today times. The Tabernacle was a temporary place of convenience where God met with His chosen people. It was simply a tent of meeting. Why was it so importance of God filling the tabernacle? According to Moses, the only thing that truly distinguishes those who are God s people from those who aren t is the presence of God. If God is with you, you belong to him; if God is not with you, you don t. So, it is an important topic to understand, because God s presence is the theme of this chapter of Exodus. This is different from their usual slogan because you re worth it as they are just talking about the colour pulse hair die, so they wanted a slogan to link in with the product. The slogan is effective because the words lively and pulse make it sound alive and the words you and your make it sound like they are talking to you in person. Also, at the end of the slogan is an exclamation mark which makes it seem exciting. The two advertisements both have copy but in the Clinique one it is much longer because it is aimed at an older target audience who are more interested in the copy content. The Advertisement aimed at the younger target audience has less copy, containing just the most important facts, because the visual impact is more to this age group. The L Oreal Paris advertisement states that it washes out in 8 to 10 shampoos . This is an example of weasel words because they are not giving an exact figure but a range. The Similarities Between First And Second-Wave Feminism Other than the obvious time differences between first and second wave feminism, the real contrasts are found in what it was the women, and men in some cases, were fighting for. First Wave feminists mainly fought for suffrage, while their Second Wave sisters fought for a wider range of women s rights. First wave feminism was brought on by the newly educated female population. Women s experiences under colonization taught them to see themselves as citizens of oppressed nations, and many entered into Nationalist politics on behalf of their beleaguered people. Number five on my list is the Black and Decker Ergo electric can opener. This can opener is very nice. When our old electric can opener finally went out after ten years of service, my husband picked up this one. It s cordless and rechargeable. To use, just clamp it onto a can, press the handle and let go. There is no need to hold it as it travels by itself around the can, stopping once the lid has been completely cut. Cleanup is easy as the cutting mechanism easily pops off the unit. It comes with a charging base. This is great for my kitchen that has very little counter space and limited electrical outlets. • 16. Global Warming And The Greenhouse Effect Global warming is the increase in the average surface temperature of the Earth due to the effect of the buildup of greenhouse gases, due to deforestation and burning fossil fuels which causes the heat to be trapped that would otherwise escape from the earth. To understand global warming, you need to understand the greenhouse effect. The greenhouse effect is actually essential for life on earth to exist as it allows the planet to remain warm enough to sustain life. For example if we consider for moment a simplistic comparison of a car parked in the sun. The rays of the sun enter the car through the windows and some of the heat is absorbed by items inside the car (seats, dashboard etc). These objects will in turn begin to release heat and some of this heat escapes back through the windows but some of the heat is reflected back into the car. The result is that more heat enters the car than is able to escape it and the interior of the car warms up. So if you think of the earth s atmosphere as the car s interior. The landscape and structures on earth can be seen as the cars seats and dashboard. The role of the cars windows is played by certain things within the earth s atmosphere such as carbon dioxide, methane gas and water vapour which absorb the heat reflected by the earth below. These are known as greenhouse gasses. When there are more greenhouse gasses present in the atmosphere, more heat can be retained leading to a rise in the temperature of our planet. This is what I ... Hydrogen Benefits Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions Greenhouse gases are thought to be responsible for changes in global climate. When we drive our cars, and light, heat, and cool our homes, we generate greenhouse gases. But if we used hydrogen in very high efficiency fuel cells for our transportation and to generate power, we could significantly reduce the GHG emissions especially if the hydrogen is produced using renewable resources, nuclear power, or clean fossil technologies. Reduce Air Pollution The combustion of fossil fuels by electric power plants, vehicles, and other sources is responsible for most of the smog and harmful particulates in the air. Fuel cells powered by pure hydrogen emit no harmful pollutants. Fuel cells that use a reformer to convert fuels such as natural gas, methanol, or gasoline to hydrogen do emit small amounts of air ... • 18. The Lesson By Toni Bambara Analysis If you live in America your life should be better, fuller and richer for everyone, but if you belong in the working class or the poor class, this might still be impossible. For example, time off from work, vacations, education, or even afford you own house, this might be the biggest struggles for working families. • 19. Block Booking System, Admission Price Discrimination, And... The Code established trade practices consisting of the block booking system, admission price discrimination, and the formation of clearance and zoning boards. Block booking was a practice in which motion picture companies would sell their movies in blocks in a package deal to the exhibitors. Even though exhibitors were given information about the films they were licensing like who starred in it, what it was about, etc. the films were licensed without viewing the movie at the time of contracting (Klein, 2000, p. 431), which meant that the movie studios could even profit off of bad productions as these blocks were sold as a bulk all or nothing deal. This meant that if the exhibitors wanted one movie out of the entire block, they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The only viable way to make profits was to rely on the novelty of an early run of a new release to attract audiences. The problem with such a reliance was that runs in theaters were regulated by the Clearance and Zoning boards, which were set up as another practice under the Code in an attempt to organize distribution of films in the nation. It arranged theaters in different regions on the marketing pattern of zoning, clearance and run. The country was divided into thirty markets, compartmentalized into zones, and classified by runs that would range from fourteen days to forty two days or more with a potential of running for more than a year in large markets (Schuchman, Balio, 1994). This practice gave the Board, which was dominated by the Big 5, the power to control which movie would play when and where. This was specifically important as movies that were already viewed by the potential audience, would not draw in the same patronage as it would in the first run. Consequently whoever got the right to show the movie first would stand to make the most profit. It was very obvious that this would be a potential source of discrimination against independent exhibitors as the Big 5 would favor their own exhibition houses over that of independent exhibitors. With all three practices, it was clear that the intention was to increase profits. Survival of businesses was very precarious as many ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Part Three focuses on the practice of supervision and standards while exploring some of the contemporary diversity issues facing coaching and mentoring. Part Four brings together all the above topics and moves toward a theory of coaching and mentoring. This section concludes with a review of the emerging concerns from coaching and mentoring. The authors point out that the history of mentoring is extensive and began with a more mature and experienced person engaging in a relationship with a less experienced person. The central purpose of both coaching and mentoring is to transfer specific knowledge and skills from one to the other with the intent of fostering independence (Garvey, Stokes, Megginson, 2014). Garvey et al., (2014) distinguish the difference between coaching and mentoring. According to the authors, coaching is the act of facilitating and mentoring is the practice of giving advice and expert recommendations (Garvey et al., 2014). The authors believe that coaches listen, ask questions, and enable mentees to discover for themselves what is right for them, whereas mentors talk about their personal experience assuming it ... • 21. The Anglo Saxon Era Of Rich History And Reflected Literature The Anglo Saxon Era of Rich History and Reflected Literature The Anglo Saxon Period began in 449 and ended in 1066 AD. This was a time of Viking conquering other nations, patriotism, and Pagan to Christian religious conversion. There are only few recorded authors of this era as a result of literary works such as Beowulf, Wife s Lament, and The Seafarer being passed down orally through generations of time. The literature serves as a reflection of this ancient time rather than having an impact on this time period. This was a period of great conquering, pride and honor, and Christian expansion with recorded literature that exaggerated and symbolized what was occurring. This time remains the darkest, the least documented in British history ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The religious transformation was a slow but progressive growth. It is definitely certain that the characters of these oral stories were exaggerated or even make believe and as a matter of fact after much studies of the Roman Empire, there has even been controversy over King Arthur s existence. (Wood 39) The question is, what happened in Britain after the fall of the Roman Empire? Bound up with that, there is a second question: did there exist at this time a war leader called Arthur? (Wood, 39). This shows that not only were the obviously exaggerated heroic characters fake but also some of the seemingly realistic characters were as well. This indicates that these stories were definitely exaggerated for entertainment purposes, but at the same time, used to describe the battles, the honor and events that happened at this time. There are three main literary works of this time period: Beowulf, Wife s Lament, and The Seafarer. Each literary work has unique symbolism and can be analyzed and interpreted to show what they represent. Beowulf highly focuses on battling, one having honor for their kingdom, and even has some religious representation. Beowulf is an epic poem, which is defined as a long, narrative poem about a larger than life, legendary character in pursuit of a goal of national importance. • 22. The Environmental Impact Of Electric Vehicles Over the last several years, electric vehicles and hybrid electric gasoline vehicles have been gaining popularity as a more environmentally friendly transportation option. Experts agree that the recent innovations in technology are impressive, but some question the veracity of the statements made about emissions and environmental impact of electric cars and hybrids. Currently, electric vehicles are expensive to produce and create more emissions than gasoline vehicles during the manufacturing process. However, over the entire life of the car electric vehicles claim to have a lesser effect on the environment than gasoline cars. If true, then it is possible that greenhouse gas pollution and global warming could be significantly reduced over time. As the United States continues to develop more effective ways to generate and store renewable energy, electric cars will become more significant. There have been numerous studies done on the effect of electric cars on the environment, but not all of them agree. Some only analyze part of the broader issue, while others seem to have obvious biases as the center of their argument. One article, Electric Vehicles: Just How Green Are They? by Pamela Worth explains that the average gasoline powered vehicle gets 29 miles per gallon. Worth uses this statistic to show that after production, electric vehicles are cleaner than the average gasoline powered vehicle in all areas of the United States (Worth). • 24. Importance Of School Day In American School Length of day in American Schools The American Educational system, which many of us students have become familiar with, did not come about instantaneously. What we have now is the result of many decades of development and policy making in legislation. Though Parochial schools were used in the U.S. as early as 1750, and Government funded public schools began cropping up after the Revolutionary war, our educational system s pace of development was relatively slow up until around the mid 19th century when the first states began passing laws that made schooling compulsory to all those who had the opportunity to attend. By the early 1900s, twelve years of education became the standard across the nation, a standard that has withstood the test of time and is still in place today. The average school day in the U.S. is 6.5 hours, and students are expected to attend 180 total days of school per grade term. To supplement this, on average the U.S. spends more per capita on education than any other country in the world. Though we spend much, the results don t directly translate to nation wide success in schools. In 2014, the U.S. was ranked 14th globally in education. Many attribute this to the average length of the school day in America, and others propose an overall increase in total instructional hours within American schools. Since there was law and order in society because of rigid rules and traditions, merchants and artisans had the opportunity to devote time to innovation, rather than having to deal with crime and uncertainty. Powerful government and religious figures such as kings and popes were well respected by all of the subjects. Additionally, the Catholic Church had a significant role in influencing political leaders as well as merchants, artisans, and peasants. In medieval Europe, there was an abundance of advanced technology. Even though the invention of reins predated the medieval period, their use became very prevalent and allowed good control of horses for battle and transportation. Candum writes of a character using this innovation: ...he tightened his hold on the reins (87). Since people in medieval Europe had reins available to them, In a Dark Wood realistically reflects the technology of the time. Additionally, there were other practical items similar to the reins, such as weapons used for battle. Examples of these weapons include broadswords, battering rams, and trebuchets. Medieval society also had horses and other animals to use as a form of transportation during travel and battle. In a Dark Wood also highlights further technologies used in both historical and fictional medieval Europe. Weapons, such as the battering ram and the crossbow, enhanced warfare in general, and made it easier for the side with the most advanced technologies to win. As stated in a book about a late medieval battle written by Ernst Jünger, there were indeed many newly developed weapons used in battle during these times.
