Dbq Deforestation
Deforestation is when people cut down and clear forests for logging, agriculture, and mining. Many
people believe that deforestation has a positive impact on society. They say this because deforestation
can create things people need to survive, and deforestation creates jobs. On the other hand,
deforestation has a negative effect on society. Deforestation harms animals and plants, can wipe out
entire forests which are important to us all, and intensifies global warming. Deforestation has a
negative impact on our environment and should be limited. Deforestation has a negative effect on our

Deforestation is necessary for our survival. For instance, according to Document 2 , a secondary
source from National Geography Society, Forests are cut down for many reasons, but most of them are
related to money or to people s need to provide for their families . This shows that people need to clear
forests in order to make money and we rely on trees for things like paper and pencils, so without
deforestation we would most likely die. Therefore, deforestation are necessary for our survival.
Deforestation also creates jobs. For instance, in Document 4 , a primary source from Global
deforestation according to the U.N., the annual tropical deforestation in square miles rose from
approximately 30,000 in 1990 2000 to approximately 40,000 in 2000 2005. Even though this means
more trees are cut down, this also means more jobs for people because forests are being cleared.
According to the article Deforestation , an article from the site ic.galegroup.com, Forests are also
cleared to make way for new infrastructure, including roadways, homes, and commercial properties
such as shopping malls. This in turn creates more jobs. Forests are cut down for buildings and roads,
and who s going to build these roads and buildings? Workers, that s who. Despite all of this,
deforestation is still terrible because the losses outweigh the

Simulation Reflection Paper
Simulation Reflection The simulation was very interesting in that my partner and I were given an
opportunity to think critically about how to approach to influence different managers and workers
with different characteristics. By running the simulation twice, it allowed us to find out what actions
have worked and what did not during the first run, and then second run allowed us to apply what we
learned to complete the second simulation in a much more efficient and timely manner. There are
three stages in the simulation, including mobilization, movement, and sustain phases. The simulation
begins in the mobilization phase, and in this phase it was important to get everyone aware of the new

Stress Literature Review
The Effects of Mental Health Resources on College Student Stress and Coping
Chapter 2: Literature Review
Introduction
Many young adults within the university and college educational system experience stress. The stress
and anxiety they incur can vary due to multiple factors. This chapter examined some of these different
factors and how they have contributed to undergraduate student stress and anxiety and overall college
experience. It also focused on the positive and negative coping mechanisms students utilized in order
to manage their stress and anxiety. Finally, it examined the mental health resources available that have
helped promote adaptive emotional management skills. By examining these factors the reader will
better understand the elements that could contribute to the student s ability to thrive in their
undergraduate experience.
Stress and Undergraduate Students Fear and Stress Contributing to Student Performance. Students
may experience academic difficulty due to a variety of factor. One particular factor students may face
regularly is fear. While growing up, fears are a common experience, however as an individual gets
older they eventually learn how to better manage their experience of fear (Bledsoe Baskin, 2014).
Nevertheless, fear can still occasionally impact peoples cognitive abilities. Cognitive functioning is a
significant part of the undergraduate experience so any impairment of it can be significant.
Similarly, Bledsoe and Baskin (2014) state that

The Importance Of Vaccine Policy
If the bill had been passed, it would have provided residents sustained transparency, guaranteed
parents the right to access vaccine reports that would keep them well informed, and assist them in
making safe and appropriate decisions for their child (Texas H.B. 2249, 2017). On the other hand, as
parents are opting out of their child receiving immunizations, conflicting values may arise. As vaccine
exemption rates are rising, vaccine coverage levels are beginning to decline, putting the community in
a predicament. When a high number of people within a population are immunized to a disease, it
lessens the likelihood of the spread of disease also referred as herd immunity (Warren, 2017). Herd

2249, 2017).
Although the goal of the bill was to encourage parents to get their children vaccinated and reduce the
negative effects from not being vaccinated, the bill s proponents aimed to prove a correlation between
higher exemptions rates and an increase in disease outbreaks.
Policy Impact
The impact of the propositioned legislation in relation to quality, access, fairness, cost, administrative
and political feasibility, highlights the risks and benefits of the outcome. Despite the involvement of
political influences in proposing the stated bill, the desired outcome of the bill was not accomplished.
If the policy had passed, it would benefit some parents and stakeholders by giving them access to
school data regarding immunization and exemption rates (Texas H.B. 2249, 2017). Therefore, parents
would be able to make a decision of where to send their children to pursue education. Conversely,
even though information would be de identified, it would create tension and disagreement between
parents and children with opposing views.
The decision to support a policy to pass or not can create debate and competition, affecting ethical
values such as principles of beneficence, nonmaleficence, justice, and utilitarianism , since it might
challenge personal beliefs (Hendrix et al., 2016, p. 275). This policy creates ethical conflict and moral
concern among stakeholders, especially parents, school officials, and the public, regarding the

Moving from Age of Reason to the Romantics period a lot changed about the author s works in
literature. Those poets who belong to the Age of Reason roughly 1700 and those many famous poets
before them all wrote different types of poetry. Throughout decades of this country there have been
many different changes to poetry: it has evolved in each country meaning it evolved plenty around the
world. Poets like William Wordsworth, William Blake and Lord Byron coming from the old part of the
romantics and the new part of the romantic period where poets of this time wanted to make poetry
easier to read and understand, but have deeper meaning besides the obvious. A poet mentioned from
this time period, Lord Byron was very focused on this type of poetry becoming one of the most
famous and most important poets of in our history. A poem that is very popular and important was
known as She Walks in Beauty. This poem goes from simple to complex giving out many messages
within the poem in different stages of Byron s life. However, in the poem titled She Walks in Beauty
by Lord Byron, Byron conveys three important ideas; the appearance of the lady, differentiating from
opening lines to closing lines, and emphasizes the spiritual aspect of the lady. First of all, Lord Byron
uses the second stanza of the poem She Walks in Beauty to explain the lady s physical appearance.

The Protest Without Hatred By Solomon Northup
The Protest without Hatred
12 years a slave is a book about the slavery in the pre Civil War South. It was written based on a true
story that happened to Solomon Northup who is also the author of the book. The story was a violent
protestation, but also full of love without any hatred of Black people, who were being slaved for all
their life. The Slavery was abolished in North America; however, it still existed in the South America
at that time. Solomon Northup, a Black citizen of New York City, was kidnapped and sold into slavery
in 1851. He was rescued at a Louisianan cotton plantation in 1853. After being freed, Solomon
Northup wrote the book 12 years a slave to recount the years of terrible abuses that he had been
bearing under the Slavery. Northup s story was regarded as a source of inspiration in Civil War which
contributed in the democracy of United States as today. It was also a piece of art as well as a work of
human insight which awaked the human love, conscious fight, dignity protection, and the freedom of
man.
Twelve years are not long to people who have a freedom life; however, it is more than thousands of
years for people who are being enslaved. Among the stories of slavery in the world, 12 years a slave
was indeed an incomparable story. It was a real story which were written by the one who had breathed
both the air of freedom in Northern, and the taste of being enslaved in the Southern America. The
story was told in an order of time. Solomon, who had a

Hans Use Of Political And Social Themes
Hans Haacke has been characterized as among some of the most revolutionary and controversial
contemporary and conceptual artists of all time. Haacke s works are generally simply constructed yet
exquisitely permeated with depth and importance through his integration of social, political, and
environmental issues in his pieces that give them a voice they would otherwise lack. In the following
essay, we will seek to understand just how Hans Haacke s use of political and social themes causes his
work to resonate with audiences on the scale it has done. When gazing upon the vast expanse of art
history, it becomes evident that the greatest and most influentially revolutionary individuals are not
those that dabble in the popular and well studied styles of old. Those who are great flee from average
and explore uncharted new territories. The individuals that choose to really set themselves apart from
the rest of art culture are those who branch out in totally new directions. Those who delve into new
ideas and new ways of expressing themselves through mediums and styles few have trodden upon.
Hans Haacke has cemented himself in history as one of these influential and revolutionary individuals.
His pioneering work of a conceptual nature was unparalleled and unmatched by his competitors at its
conception. Hans Haacke was born August 12, 1936 in the little town of Cologne, Germany. Before he
started formal education, he was part of an global organization known as Zero. Zero was a

Honey Bees Importance
Why Bees are important to humanity
Unknowingly, an insect as a bee can have catastrophic harm to our lives. Bees may seem very
dangerous but they are the species that has dramatic effects to our supplies and business. Bees are very
essential to our everyday lives because without bees our food necessities, health essentials, and
economy decrease. Honey bees should be protected because without them we would lose a vital
source of food and medicinal treatments, and nature like basic flowers and plants will eventually rot
and die. For example, fertilization is a high incentive for the utilization of honey bees since they are
responsible for pollinating nearly 85% of all food crops for humans , ( The Benefits of Bees. )
additionally different products which are utilized to nourish cattle. The nonattendance of the bumble
bee will prompt a decline in choices for sustenance. Local food markets in neighborhoods will start to
run out of food products and families will start to decrease in food supplies.
Nature needs honey bees on the grounds that without them many plants would have no real way to
reproduce and die out. (The Benefits of Bees. ) Bees are extremely critical in the way of life of most
plant and blooms. There are many types of far off honey bees who have developed to fertilize one sort
of plant, and coexisting in unison with the lifespan of that plant. (The Benefits of Bees. ) Without the
honey bee the plant will not have the capacity to replicate so it will wind up

negligence following the embezzlement of money by Schor, Romanelli s financial advisor. Romanelli
contended that Citibank was liable for allowing Schor s actions. Both the New York trial court and
New York appellate court found in favor of Citibank, stating that Romanelli was liable for Schor s
actions since Schor was Romanelli s agent (Melvin Katz, 2015, p.321). Observations Legal Issues The

While it is true that Romanelli told Schor not to open the account, Romanelli s actions would imply
that Schor did have authority to act on Romanelli s behalf. Romanelli gave Schor authority to conduct
business for him when he hired Schor as his accountant and financial adviser (Melvin Katz, 2015,
p.321). Schor was also given a corporate resolution that gives someone the authority to act on behalf
of the corporation (Investopedia, 2015). It is unknown what the corporate resolution was for, but since
Romanelli had given it to Schor along with other documents pertaining to the opening of a bank
account, it is safe to assume that it had to do with giving Schor authority to open the account on
Romanelli s behalf. Even though Schor was told not to open the account, he can claim that he had
been given authority at one time to open it. Although Romanelli did not win his case against Citibank,
he does have a couple of remedies against Schor. These include the ability to seek damages from
Schor for the amount that Schor had embezzled. Romanelli could also fire Schor for breach of duty.

Global Business Barriers
Global business is defined as the buying and selling of goods and services by people from different
countries (McWilliams Williams 2010). It also has to do with international trade and trade agreements.
Corporations that own businesses in two or more countries are called multinational corporations
(McWilliams Williams 2010). Most of these global businesses main headquarters are found in the
United States or the United Kingdom. Expanding to a global market is quite a complex process and
businesses have to take many different aspects into account such as: social/cultural, legal, political,
economic, environmental and technological factors. These components help create an attractive
business climate. Different businesses operate differently to assess these relevant factors. Strict Import
export rules and regulations also need to be followed. Entering the global market also allows for larger
competition between other similar businesses and to create trade agreements. There are many rules
and regulations when entering into the global market and with each country having different
requirements you must fulfil. These must be followed or the business cannot enter into business in that
country. Global businesses have trade barriers, which are government imposed regulations that
increase the cost and restrict the number of imported goods (McWilliams Williams 2010). Different
types of trade barriers include tariff and also non tariff barriers such as: quotas, voluntary

Seneca was a Spaniard born in the year 6 BC at Cordova. Seneca was trained extensively in rhetoric
and philosophy. Agrippina had ulterior motives for choosing Seneca as Nero s tutor. Seneca was
stodgily conservative and republican. He was a paragon of all the ancient Roman virtues. Agrippina
knew the Senate would smile upon this and it would later benefit Nero.
Franzero attributes much of Nero s early success obtaining the throne to his mother. Agrippina was a
very beautiful, ruthless, and deceitfully clever woman. She had the unique ability of positioning
herself well, regardless of the situation. Three of Agrippina s two husbands died as a result of being
poisoned. During her pregnancy with Nero, Agrippina visited a Persian Magician that foretold her
horoscope. You will give birth to a son, who shall be Emperor, but will assassinate his mother.
Agrippina replied: Let him murder his mother but be Emperor! #8212;Necet me dum reget! She was
dedicated to seeing her son become one of Rome s most prominent politicians. She wouldn t allow
anyone to stand in the way of his progress. Her desire to thrust her son into the leading role of emperor

Eastern Mindfulness
The popularity and effects of mindfulness have spread into clinical practices. Eastern mindfulness, in
fact, seems to effectively treat psychological and physical problems (Chiesa Malinowski, 2011). By
connecting mindfulness to psychological treatments positive emotions such as happiness and
compassion can be fostered. Thus, in the last few centuries, Western clinical and social fields have
slowly been implementing mindfulness into their practices.
Mindfulness evolves from Buddhist practices, and has recently influenced Western practices.
Conceptually, mindfulness refers to the ability of recognizing and understanding one s emotion. This
action allows the individual to become aware of the present moment (Bryant Wildi, 2008). There are
two elements in mindfulness: internal and external. External mindfulness originates from the Western
cognitive and social psychology, which focuses on the self and environment. ... Show more content on

Universal Love By Stephen T. Asma
The idea of universal love is one that is prevalent in the media. With the news filled with grim stories
and horror many people are calling to the idea of loving everyone. Tensions are high concerning race
relations, gender discrimination, and sexual orientation. Many in the general public are calling for
humanity to embrace humanity. Many in the general public are asking why we can t just love one
another ? Stephen T. Asma tackles this idea of love in his article published in the New York Times.
Asma discusses two different ideas about universal love before offering his own take on the subject.
Just as Asma states, universal love is a myth and closer personal relationships should be favored.
The first argument given toward universal love is that humanity should care for and love for those
close to them, but that humans also have the ability to care for and love everyone around them. The
author mentions two different and important social theorists that believe in this theory. The first is
Peter Singer. Singer explains his idea in his book The Expanding Circle . He believes that it is a
person s ethical duty to help those in their closest circle, of family and friends. But he also believes
that that circle grows and expands to encompass other individuals as well, because our communities
and societies are just one small part of many with the same needs and wants as us. Singer invokes
mathematics to explain the circle should indeed grow to include others. That is until we

The Importance Of Severe Weather In The Short Story The...
Many people feel a certain way when something terrible happens to them or a loved one, but should
they be held responsible? It just barely missed me, but in my place, it swallowed everything that
mattered most to me and swept it to another world (133). People should not be held responsible for
their actions in life or death situations because weather related disaster and accidents are
uncontrollable, people have experienced enough tragedy and rescue are very costly. Even though
many people are very careful with adventuring, accidents and weather related disasters still happen;
they re inevitable. Severe weather in the short story The Seventh Man notes the main character is in
the middle of an unexpected tsunami when it hits the beach where K. and the main character are
exploring; K. had been swept away in the power waves. Without any sound or other warnings, the sea
had suddenly stretched its long, smooth tongue out to where I stood on the beach. Child though I was,
I had grown up at the shore and knew how frightening the ocean could be the savagery with which it
could strike unannounced (136 137). In addition, in the argumentative article The Value of a Sherpa
Life , Sherpas have to endure loss and death on a daily basis and venture up something that had just
taken the life of their very good friends or family due to nature mishaps. On April 18, at about 6:30

Essay on The Rich Brother by Tobias Wolff
The short story, The Rich Brother, by Tobias Wolff represents the same concept that everyday people
all over the world encounter. This portrays how having siblings can be an enormous part of a persons
life. The rivalry between siblings is often very competitive, but at the same time similar to magnets.
When they are not connected it may seem they are independent and whole, but when examined closely
it is obvious they are really relying on each other to function properly. Although Pete and Donald s life
are separate and completely different, they are in fact very dependent on each other.
The meaning of dependence is the act of being influenced, relying on, or needing someone for aid or
support. Dependence is one of the main ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even thought Pete does not show caring emotions, his actions say all the words. For example: Donald
said, Pete do you ever dream about me? Pete replied with, What kind of question is that? Of course I
don t dream about you. He said untruthfully. (pg.367). This is one of the only parts in this short story
that shows the reader a very small part of Pete s soft side. Another example compares in a similar way
that Pete does in fact have a connection with his only brother Donald. There was something wrong
with me, and you were helping me out. Taking care of me. Just the two of us. I don t know where
everyone else was supposed to be. Pete said. (pg. 369) If someone were to analyze only this part of the
story it would portray that in his dream he depended on Donald. When he says it was just the two of
them, it gives the reader an idea that was the way it was supposed to be, that Pete didn t need anyone
else in the world to help him but only needed the person he could truly rely upon. Dependency is one
of the main concealed habits between siblings, not only growing up, but continuously throughout one
others life. Another common inconspicuous idiosyncrasy is rivalry. Rivalry is often associated in
competition including sports, events, and mostly a trait that seems siblings are born with. The urge to

Social Media And Its Impact On The Workplace Essay
Social media becomes important in people s lives despite age, gender, social level, profession,
language or locality. Modern technologies are used by individuals including student nurses across the
world for different purposes, such as, to stay up to date with worldwide news; exchange information
or ideas and share views; aid in recovery and education; keep in touch with family and friends. This
comes with great responsibilities for nurses not only to become confident social media users and
incorporate this knowledge into practice for patient and nurses benefits, but also to be aware of
organisational policies and legislations in the workplace to avoid consequences on a legal, ethical and
professional level for improper use of social media (Kientz Kupperschmidt, 2011, p.1).
Social media can also known as social networking. As Kaplan and Haenlein (2010, p.61) defined, a
group of Internet based applications that build on the ideological and technological foundations of
Web 2.0, and that allow the creation and exchange of user generated content (as cited in Spector
Kappel, 2012, p.1), by utilising social media platforms which may include Post Casting, Video
Hosting, Blogging, Microblogging, Social News Sharing and Social Networking such as LinkedIn,
Facebook and Forums. Face to face communication in the past is continually being replaced by virtual
communication between people in modern society. Some students argue that there are a lot of

The Violence Of A Child s Body Bag
A gloomy night sky surrounded the flashing lights of blue and red. The moon, usually full and bright,
appeared to be as lifeless and pale as the victim being pulled into the ambulance. As I got closer, I
noticed the body bag. A child s body bag. Even the most apathetic officers were filled with sorrow. I
stared out into the murderous lake while the ambulance pulled away. To think that these calm waters
were the raging killer is unethical. There had to be someone involved in the killing of this innocent
child. Where were the parents of this child? I believe that healthy relationships begin with unity. The
unity of a mother and child is a sacred relationship. It is suspicious that no one is here for him. I
thought of my family, and the life ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The more I thought about this, the more it made sense. Of course the person who let the child drown
would ve been under the influence. After reporting my findings to my boss, I headed for the bus
station. After five minutes of waiting, the bus finally arrived. The rear doors opened, and the smell of
public transportation filled the air. I sat in the back by myself. There was a man to the far left of me
sobbing and looking at his phone. My son, she killed my son. He kept repeating. Where is my son? I
was hesitant to approach him, but I decided to go for it. I couldn t really see this man because his head
was hung low, with his hands covering his face. Excuse me, sir? I managed to say. He looked up at
me. His eyes were all were red and his nose was swollen, probably because of all the crying. They
were never ending tears, they just kept streaming down his face. Are you alright? I m sorry, I just
overheard you say something about someone killing another individual? I stuttered. He wiped his tears
with his shirt sleeve, and looked straight into my eyes. Who are you? He questioned. I m with the
Xochimilco police department, and I would like to know more about your case, I responded. I listened
to this man talk about his life being married to the love of his life. For a short period of time, he was
happy with his high school sweetheart. All was well until she came home late one night. The man, Mr.
Belmonte, said that his wife left him and his child all alone.

There Is Something Undeniably Special about Christmas Essay
There is something undeniably special about Christmas. From the abundance of peppermint to the
Island of Lost Toys, this season can put a skip in the step of even the nastiest Scrooge. Who could
oppose setting up lights of red and green, or picking out the perfect tree, pruned and green? In the
meantime, creamy eggnog, sprinkled with flakes of graham cracker and nutmeg returns for a standing
ovation after Thanksgiving. I remember writing letters addressed to the North Pole, made credible
with backwards E s. The foul taste of glue would linger on my tongue as I rushed into the icy

She must prepare for the holiday performances yet to come. Every night, I am soothed by the sound of
White Christmas emerging from the baby grand piano, placed just outside the living room. Sometimes
I watch her fingers run along the black and white keys, exhibiting such poise in the process. It must be
so gratifying to be able to turn that complicated assembly of strings and hammers into something
beautiful. Music simply has an unforgettable quality when connecting to Christmas time and more.
Even with all the music in the world, Christmas would not be the same without winter. Playing out in
the snow, I am a child again; it is nice to be a little carefree sometimes. Along with that, the alluring
white snow has the ability to bring siblings together. As in most families, it seems as though my
brother Johnny and I are constantly bickering. Strangely enough, the feuds between us simply vanish
as we rush to throw on our puffy black earmuffs and over sized boots. What a wonderful quality.
However, the best part about the snow is paradoxical to being outside; it is coming back in to see the
crackling fireplace dancing in the winter breeze. Upon entering the house, I am hit with the sweet
smell of chocolate laced with a hint of peppermint. My mom hands Johnny and I a mug bearing the
face of a rosy cheeked man in a red suit, thawing our hands in the process. By now, it is dark, and
peering out the window, all that can be seen is a twinkle of blue Christmas lights

Explain Why College Should Not Be Free Essay
Why college should not be free
College in modern times is said to be a necessity for success, but should college be free? The system
college creates relies on the cost of the education being extremely high to function, if we made college
free it would lose all of its value. Without the high price, college would just be an extension of your
high school education. Education is expensive and someone else would have to foot the bill for your
secondary learning and housing. On the other hand, college creates many problems for the students
who choose to attend. Some of these problems include a perceived lack of fairness, massive amounts
of debt, and a lack of opportunity for students who grew up in a lower economic class. Another
drawback to expensive education is the very intelligent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Debt has become a major issue in politics for my generation, people think they should be absolved of
the debt they signed up for. It would be very good for our country if no person had any debt from their
education. In a time where the majority of people own less than the top one percent, we should be
doing everything we can to help people who cannot pay for their education. The only problem is that
someone has to pay back the money that they barrowed. It would be irresponsible to trust your own
debt, that you knowingly signed up for, onto every tax paying American. When people sign up for
college it is not like anyone forced them to take out loans or forced them to go to college in the first
place. Some might say that the cost of college is so great that no person should be expected to pay
back such a large sum. While it is true that the cost is high, every person should be responsible for the
money that they borrowed to pay for their degree. Thankfully with a college degree you have more

Research Paper On Arctic
The Arctic is located in the northernmost part of the planet. It is a polar area that consists of the Arctic
Ocean, adjacent seas and parts of different European and North American countries: Canada, the
United States, Russia, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, etc.
The Artic holds a unique ecosystem and very cold temperatures; however, some indigenous peoples
have adapted quite well to these extreme conditions.
Its flora consists mostly of mosses and lichens that grow so close to the ground that form tundra. The
fauna is characterized by different species of herbivores like arctic hares, lemmings, etc. There are
also predators like the snowy owl, the arctic fox and the grizzly bear, among many other animals,
especially marine species.
However, one the most particular aspects of the Arctic is its weather and temperatures. Its cold winters

Daily temperature variations are less common in the High Arctic during winter because of the lack of
daylight. Clear days, which are more common during winter, are usually colder than cloudy ones.
Nevertheless, it is important to mention the effects global warming has had on the Artic. Among these
effects, we can mention the rising temperatures that result in the loss of sea ice and the melting of the
ice sheet. Also, the negative impact it has on tundra vegetation s composition that as a consequence
causes the loss of the Arctic s fauna s

Implications And Consequences Of Foster Care In America
Foster Care Many children who are placed in foster care are typical are either victims of child abuse

ward, group home, or private home of a state certified caregiver, referred to as a foster parent . The
placement of the child is normally arranged through the government or a social service agency. Foster
Care has been around ever since the nineteenth century, but wasn t really publicized as it should have
been because American ideal vision of a family during the time was nuclear family (which consist of
mother, father, children) but over the past decade things have changed and foster care is also shaping
that view also. Social policy tends to ignore what they don t publicize. Children of immigrants were
often out on the street looking for work. They were sent on orphan trains and sent out west. Back in
the 1800s, no one talked about any sexual abuse children might have suffered on their journey out
west. Some of the slight problems in the early system were addressed, but the cause of the system still
existed. Some disadvantages of foster care is youth who enter the service have complicated, serious

Scrutinize Zeno s Dichotomy Paradox
Zeno of Elea is most well known for his series of about 40 different paradoxes of plurality designed to
show that believing in many things rather than just one can only lead to illogical conclusions. One of
the topics he emphasizes on is motion, more specifically with these paradoxes he attempts to establish
that motion is impossible. Here he describes three different paradoxes one of which is the Dichotomy
paradox. The purpose of this essay is to scrutinize Zeno s Dichotomy paradox and to see if it properly
defends itself against some of the main challenges that have been raised against it, which I believe
Zeno has managed to do. I will reevaluate Zeno s paradox in comparison to see how well it defends
against criticism. Although some arguments ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mathematics has greatly advanced since the time of Zeno and Aristotle and this has brought to light
another way to counter Zeno s paradoxes. With the creation of calculus, Zeno s paradox has been more
or less resolved. The calculus solution to this paradox considers the infinite sequence of ½, ¼, 1/8, ...,
1/2^n, which is an infinite geometric sequence. Geometric sequences have a formula of ∑_(n=1)^∞▒
〖(〖 1/2〗^i )〗=1 were the number of half steps are balanced out by the increasingly short amount
of time needed to journey through all those distances. However, this is a convergence of an infinite
series, which means that the sum of this can be approximated very closely to one if you add up enough
terms. This mathematical explanation seemed to suffice for a lot of people, since the sum of all of
those terms can be approximated closely enough to a doable number to justify motion being an actual
thing. However, if we take a closer look at Zeno s paradox, the problem was not that the runner
wouldn t get close to the final point, point B. The problem was that the runner would never actually
manage to reach that final point because no matter how small the distance between the runner and the
final point, the distance can still be divisible by half and therefore there would never be a final point
were the runner would confidentially reach point B. Because the calculus equation can only
approximate very closely to the final point, but never the actual point, this solution is still not the

Nihilism In Yevgeny Vasilievich Bazarov s Fathers And Sons
In the novel, Fathers and Sons , the character Yevgeny Vasilievich Bazarov is perceived to be a strong
headed, and intelligent Nihilist who is not afraid to express his beliefs on anyone that dares to question
and challenge him about it. He is first introduced in the story by Arkady as a great friend and gives a
nice wrap in the first few chapters of the story; giving his father and himself the title of a doctor, who
had a special capacity for winning the confidence of lower class people and indeed treated them
casually (15). But the story changes him quite a bit when they reveal what he is, Nihilist, who
recognizes, nor respects nothing and regards everything from (a) critical point of view (17). Due to
this given trait of nihilism, and the way he carries his opinions out to others, I believe the novel plays
more against Bazarov rather than for him. Ever since the introduction of him being a Nihilist, Bazarov
has been recognized in the story as rude, judgemental, aggressive and hypocritical towards the
majority of the characters in the book. His beliefs have also caused him to break bonds, and turned a
friendship sour with Arkady. An example of this bond breaking moment could be his moments with
Pavel Petrovitch Kirsanov: despite not even having a type of friendly relationship or any to begin
with, Bazarov just creates tension between him and Pavel, as he demonstrates his views to Pavel and
Nikolai. Throughout the Bazarov s discusses in chapter 6, he

favored by nurses in different fields because it is flexible and a very useful model which can be

It is important to note that the model is applied after an assessment of behaviour and factors that
influence adaptive abilities has been done through an intervention so as to expand the individual s
abilities as well as enhanced environmental interactions. Key components of the Roy Adaptation
Model Adaptation Based on the theory, adaptation involves the process as well as outcomes that
involve individuals use their thinking and feeling so as to apply their conscious awareness and choice
so as to create integration of human and the environment. Adaptation is important for the attainment of
optimal health and sustaining well being of a person, the quality of life, and their death with dignity.
At the adaptation level, then the condition of the processes that characterize life are evaluated in
depth. Ro describes such levels as inclusive of; integrated, compromised, and compensatory life
processes (Roy Andrews, 1999). Thus, a life process that is considered as integrated may actually
change to attain a compensatory process that is focused on reestablishing adaptation. Further,
inadequacy in the compensatory processes may result into the compromised processes. According to
the Roy s Adaptation Model, coping processes also include innate as well as acquired mechanisms of
coping. Mechanisms considered innate are determined genetically

Prophets
To many Christians the Prophets are seen as being predictors of the Messiah, but it can be argued that
one can take any tidbit of information from a source (not just the bible) and use it, whether within
context or out of context, to support one s argument. In my opinion, as far as the prophets are
concerned, just because the prophets seem to predict the coming of the Messiah because of the
parallels that have been drawn between the books of the prophets and the New Testament does not
necessarily mean that they were able to predict the future it means that the New Testament authors

Chapter two of Hosea describes a divorce which seems to represent the end of the covenant between

Another example of the allegory in Hosea is in chapter three when Hosea seeks out Gomer again.

prison. This is ironic because this country is called the free country. Over 25% of the population in
prison are in the United States. This means that we need to set a boundary about what to do and how
to help these people not to commit crime. Maybe America is America because of all the slaves that
were kept captive. Maybe they just were in a bad position to do anything and gave up so they resorted
to committing crimes. We the people must help these group of people get better and not commit
anymore crime. Criminals may happen sometime but having 25% of the prisoners in the US is too
much for a country let alone a free country. Another thing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The bill of rights is a good way to have people in line but we don t enforce it enough to the point
people will stop committing crimes. Crimes are really popular in the US because they know that they
will be in jail for only a certain amount of time and they have people in there to live with. The
criminals also know once they are out they will avoid doing their mistake. But we need to stop the
people who are raised badly and fix them on the spot. Prisoners should have a talk with the world or
whoever wants to listen about their story on how they got in jail. This is because they instantly regret
everything they did wrong and try to fix it right away. Another thing is that people need to learn how
to give and not always take from others. For example say you are a wealthy man/women and you see a
homeless man on the street give him like one dollar or something because you don t know how long
he has been starving and why the homeless are on the street. Everyone has a backstory on how they
got there. Homeless might have a backstory of being in the war and he got shot and he lost everything
because of that you will never know what

Humor In Smoke Signals
The film Smoke Signals uses both humor and music to help give Thomas more importance as
supposed to the book, where Thomas was a rather stagnant character. This is shown in the way the
music is played in the background while Thomas is telling his stories, which helps us to view them in
a different light breathing a new life into Thomas s character. Similarly humor is used in the same
manner, in which it helps to make Thomas character more relatable to the viewers. Also in the movie,
aside from the subtle change in his storytelling, we also get to see more of a development in Thomas
character, and how his actions help to change and influence those around him; most noticeably Victor.
This type of deep personal development is not seen with Thomas ... Show more content on

During this very emotional scene Thomas describes Arnold as a salmon in the stream, while also
talking about forgiving our fathers. During his narration of this scene we get to explore another side to
Thomas, a more serious side. In earlier scenes humor and music were used to bring out the humor in
Thomas character, and dramatic elements in his story. However with this final scene we get to see
Thomas as a dynamic character that can show a range of emotion. The use of music in helps to make it
more suspenseful, especially when Victors is dumping his ashes off the bridge. This scene helps to
bring closure to both Thomas and Victor in regards to Arnold s death, and also helps to solidify the
importance of Thomas character in the

Despite the involvement of political influences in proposing the stated bill, the desired outcome of the bill was not accomplished. If the policy had passed, it would benefit some parents and stakeholders by giving them access to school data regarding immunization and exemption rates (Texas H.B. 2249, 2017). Therefore, parents would be able to make a decision of where to send their children to pursue education. Conversely, even though information would be de identified, it would create tension and disagreement between parents and children with opposing views. The decision to support a policy to pass or not can create debate and competition, affecting ethical values such as principles of beneficence, nonmaleficence, justice, and utilitarianism , since it might challenge personal beliefs (Hendrix et al., 2016, p. 275). It was written based on a true story that happened to Solomon Northup who is also the author of the book. The story was a violent protestation, but also full of love without any hatred of Black people, who were being slaved for all their life. The Slavery was abolished in North America; however, it still existed in the South America at that time. Solomon Northup, a Black citizen of New York City, was kidnapped and sold into slavery in 1851. He was rescued at a Louisianan cotton plantation in 1853. After being freed, Solomon Northup wrote the book 12 years a slave to recount the years of terrible abuses that he had been bearing under the Slavery. Northup s story was regarded as a source of inspiration in Civil War which contributed in the democracy of United States as today. It was also a piece of art as well as a work of human insight which awaked the human love, conscious fight, dignity protection, and the freedom of man. In the following essay, we will seek to understand just how Hans Haacke s use of political and social themes causes his work to resonate with audiences on the scale it has done. The individuals that choose to really set themselves apart from the rest of art culture are those who branch out in totally new directions. With the news filled with grim stories and horror many people are calling to the idea of loving everyone. Tensions are high concerning race relations, gender discrimination, and sexual orientation. Many in the general public are calling for humanity to embrace humanity. Many in the general public are asking why we can t just love one another ? Stephen T. Asma tackles this idea of love in his article published in the New York Times. Asma discusses two different ideas about universal love before offering his own take on the subject. Just as Asma states, universal love is a myth and closer personal relationships should be favored. The first argument given toward universal love is that humanity should care for and love for those close to them, but that humans also have the ability to care for and love everyone around them. The author mentions two different and important social theorists that believe in this theory. The first is Peter Singer. Singer explains his idea in his book The Expanding Circle . He believes that it is a person s ethical duty to help those in their closest circle, of family and friends. But he also believes that that circle grows and expands to encompass other individuals as well, because our communities and societies are just one small part of many with the same needs and wants as us. Singer invokes mathematics to explain the circle should indeed grow to include others. That is until we ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Another example compares in a similar way that Pete does in fact have a connection with his only brother Donald. There was something wrong with me, and you were helping me out. Taking care of me. Just the two of us. I don t know where everyone else was supposed to be. Pete said. • 26. Explain Why College Should Not Be Free Essay Why college should not be free College in modern times is said to be a necessity for success, but should college be free? The system college creates relies on the cost of the education being extremely high to function, if we made college free it would lose all of its value. Without the high price, college would just be an extension of your high school education. Education is expensive and someone else would have to foot the bill for your secondary learning and housing. On the other hand, college creates many problems for the students who choose to attend. Some of these problems include a perceived lack of fairness, massive amounts of debt, and a lack of opportunity for students who grew up in a lower economic class. Debt has become a major issue in politics for my generation, people think they should be absolved of the debt they signed up for. It would be very good for our country if no person had any debt from their education. In a time where the majority of people own less than the top one percent, we should be doing everything we can to help people who cannot pay for their education. The only problem is that someone has to pay back the money that they barrowed. It would be irresponsible to trust your own debt, that you knowingly signed up for, onto every tax paying American. When people sign up for college it is not like anyone forced them to take out loans or forced them to go to college in the first place. Some might say that the cost of college is so great that no person should be expected to pay back such a large sum. While it is true that the cost is high, every person should be responsible for the money that they borrowed to pay for their degree. One of the topics he emphasizes on is motion, more specifically with these paradoxes he attempts to establish that motion is impossible. Here he describes three different paradoxes one of which is the Dichotomy paradox. The purpose of this essay is to scrutinize Zeno s Dichotomy paradox and to see if it properly defends itself against some of the main challenges that have been raised against it, which I believe Zeno has managed to do. Mathematics has greatly advanced since the time of Zeno and Aristotle and this has brought to light another way to counter Zeno s paradoxes. With the creation of calculus, Zeno s paradox has been more or less resolved. The calculus solution to this paradox considers the infinite sequence of ½, ¼, 1/8, ..., 1/2^n, which is an infinite geometric sequence. Geometric sequences have a formula of ∑_(n=1)^∞▒ 〖(〖 1/2〗^i )〗=1 were the number of half steps are balanced out by the increasingly short amount of time needed to journey through all those distances. However, this is a convergence of an infinite series, which means that the sum of this can be approximated very closely to one if you add up enough terms. This mathematical explanation seemed to suffice for a lot of people, since the sum of all of those terms can be approximated closely enough to a doable number to justify motion being an actual thing. However, if we take a closer look at Zeno s paradox, the problem was not that the runner wouldn t get close to the final point, point B. The problem was that the runner would never actually manage to reach that final point because no matter how small the distance between the runner and the final point, the distance can still be divisible by half and therefore there would never be a final point were the runner would confidentially reach point B. Because the calculus equation can only approximate very closely to the final point, but never the actual point, this solution is still not the correct ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He is first introduced in the story by Arkady as a great friend and gives a nice wrap in the first few chapters of the story; giving his father and himself the title of a doctor, who had a special capacity for winning the confidence of lower class people and indeed treated them casually (15). But the story changes him quite a bit when they reveal what he is, Nihilist, who recognizes, nor respects nothing and regards everything from (a) critical point of view (17). Due to this given trait of nihilism, and the way he carries his opinions out to others, I believe the novel plays more against Bazarov rather than for him. Ever since the introduction of him being a Nihilist, Bazarov has been recognized in the story as rude, judgemental, aggressive and hypocritical towards the majority of the characters in the book. His beliefs have also caused him to break bonds, and turned a friendship sour with Arkady. An example of this bond breaking moment could be his moments with Pavel Petrovitch Kirsanov: despite not even having a type of friendly relationship or any to begin with, Bazarov just creates tension between him and Pavel, as he demonstrates his views to Pavel and Nikolai. This is ironic because this country is called the free country. Over 25% of the population in prison are in the United States. Maybe they just were in a bad position to do anything and gave up so they resorted to committing crimes. We the people must help these group of people get better and not commit anymore crime. Prisoners should have a talk with the world or whoever wants to listen about their story on how they got in jail.
