Mama s Fear In Like Water For Chocolate
Perhaps everything that frightens us is, in its deepest essence, something helpless that needs our love.
In Like Water for Chocolate Tita had a fear towards her mother. Many characters in the book found
Mama frightening or intimidating. The family was forced into a fearful obedience such as when the La
Garza family is making their Christmas rolls they are not allowed to stop until Mama Elena stated
That s it for today. once that statement is said no one dares question her or says anything else they all
begin cleaning up. (ch 1;10) Mama Elena unconsciously instilled fear into Pedro because when he
gave roses to Tita in a way to sooth her over the death of Nacha. But Rosaura, Tita s older sister and
wife of Pedro, say this she burst into tears causing Mama Elena to give him a look that sent Tita and
Pedro walking away.(ch 3;48) Mama Elena hold over people around her was based of the instinct of
fear.
Mama Elena stirred fear even in strangers. Rebel soldiers came by her house asking for her to
volunteer her services to them. Mama allowed them to go in the corn crib and the stable taking

The Beginning of Nationalism Essays
Nationalism began to rapidly grow during the mid nineteenth century throughout Europe, as well as
the rest of the world. The shift in government, most commonly from a monarch structure to a
democratic, influenced a dignified sentiment amidst Europe. The awareness of the problems present in
the European nations by this dignity, allowed them to resolve their problems, which ultimately shaped
nearly perfect nations. This supposed perfection generated great dignity in the nation s citizens, which
influenced the nationalistic growth and the unity of countries, but also contributed to the collision of
empires comprising of various racial minorities and the underlying of World War I.
Beginning in the 1700 s, nationalism emerged by means of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Social Darwinism projected the scientific theories and ideas made by Charles Darwin, onto human
fundamentals. Darwin recognizes that survival of the fittest applied to the power between Europe s
nations, where the surviving nations are ultimately the ones of higher power (Doc 5). This common
urge towards perfection stayed connected to nationalism even to the early twentieth century. For
instance, Kaiser Wilhelm II made the suggestion to Germany, that it was in their best interest to access
the foreign market. As much as the country s industry was performing well by itself already, Wilhelm
notes out to Germans, that they should nevertheless recognize the benefits of participation in foreign
trade. Wilhelm notes It will now be my task to see to it that this place in the sun shall remain our
indisputed possession (Doc 11). For, the involvement in trade and retrieving outside resources could
accommodate to Germany s stature.
As the growth of nationalism continued to spread and expand, it profoundly united citizens of the
countries Germany and Italy. The Marzrevolution painting represented the 1848 Berlin uprising (Doc
2). In the painting, bulks of people are shown clutching German flags, which are also raggedly
scattered along the ground and also swaying at the top of tall buildings. This picture suggests a
newborn Germany over the prior messy one, which would be more prominent and pleasantly pleased

Carol Ann Duffy s Revision of Masculinist Representations...
Carol Ann Duffy s Revision of Masculinist Representations of Female Identity
Carol Ann Duffy is one of the freshest and bravest talents to emerge in British poetry any poetry for
years , writes Eavan Boland (Duffy, 1994, cover). This courage is manifest in Duffy s ability and
desire to revise masculinist representations of female identity and her engagement with feminine
discourse, a concept which, as Sara Mills points out: has moved away from viewing women as simply
an oppressed group, as victims of male domination, and has tried to formulate ways of analysing
power as it manifests itself and as it is resisted in the relations of everyday life. (p.78)
It is these aspects of Duffy s work that I wish to address here by examining ... Show more content on

Ian Gregson comments on this when he states that:
Duffy explores how masculinist ways of seeing determine how women are regarded, even by
themselves, and how language determines the experiences it is supposed merely to describe, how
representation makes dummies of us all. (p.101)
This notion of female identity as a constructed in masculine discourse but accepted by all, is a
recurring theme in Duffy s poetry. She stereotypes many of her characters in order to foreground their
incongruous place within a modern society. She also highlights the inadequacies of language as a form
of expression in the Lacanian sense that no meaning is sustained by anything other than reference to
another meaning (Lacan, p.83). Language, therefore, is an unreliable form of expression and, as such,
is deconstructed by Duffy through the use of dramatic monologues to represent speech rather than
written forms, and by her juxtaposition of seemingly random nouns and adjectival phrases and her use
of compound words. Language is used to create a tension throughout her work, particularly in her
insistence on foregrounding the construction of the poem itself.
This tension is demonstrated in Recognition , from Selling Manhattan (1987), where Duffy explores
the fabrication of female identity and the inability of language to re present that identity by employing
a dramatic monologue voiced by a despondent housewife:
[...] I love him, through habit, but the proof has

The Hurricane
Bob Dylan s song, The Hurricane, brings to surface several of the themes covered in class this
semester. The song explores general themes like community and responsibility, while also focusing on
many of the sub themes, such as justice and injustice, appearance and reality, and loyalty and
abandonment. Throughout the song, the main characters constantly battle with the above themes in
attempt to frame an innocent man. While the song brings up many of these themes, Dylan s characters
show little consistency with the texts covered, as the texts tend to try to find reconciliation in the
characters, while Dylan s characters feel no remorse in their actions.

While on one hand, creating another monster would hold responsibility to his unnatural creation, he
has a responsibility to the community to prevent these monsters from breeding and wreaking further
havoc upon the community. Fortunately, in the novel, Victor upholds his responsibility to the
community, and denies the monster s demand for a partner, although he knows that this action may
lead to problems in his own life.
The song continues to venture into the theme of justice and injustice. Although all the evidence
supports the Hurricane s innocence, the community as a whole acts to ensure that injustice is served.

This line shows injustice, as well as the difference between appearance and reality. Although America
appears to be a free country, the reality is that in these times, one may have been pulled over simply
because of his race. The injustice here lies in the cops bringing Rubin in at four o clock in the
morning, and taking him up to the one bartender still living. The wounded man

The Sense Of Place By Jane Heaney
Also emanating from the sectarian subject is Heaney s etymological study of Northern Ireland s
landscape in order to transcend the contemporary political situation. In his lecture The Sense of Place
given in 1977, Heaney explains that according to John Montague, the whole Irish landscape is a
manuscript and Northern Ireland s history ensures an endless opportunity to treat the local landscape
and its terminology as such. Originally, one language was spoken here; Gaelic Irish. However,
resulting from plantations by English and Scottish settlers, Gaelic was infiltrated by their languages,
thus creating three different dialects. Heaney therefore maintains a linguistic equilibrium by remaining
faithful to the English language, as well as his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

planted settlers over the preceding centuries. Expanding further on this, Heaney claims to be an

Whiteboard Research Paper
Abstract
The purpose of the assignment is to determine if Interactive White Boards enhance teaching and
learning for teachers and their students. According to research, two thirds of all teachers feel they are
not at all prepared to incorporate technology into their teaching. This is a distressing discovery
because this means that sixty six percent of our teachers, who we rely on for intellectual leadership,
and forthcoming high tech comprehension, are not at all technologically embellished. The comforting
fabrication that we tell ourselves is that we are coming into a new era where technologically
debilitated teachers will soon be retiring, and will be replaced by youthful, technologically literate
educators. However, recent surveys have found that young teacher s self assessment of their ability to

Do you believe you are able to learn better when a whiteboard is used in the classroom?
Students who responded affirmatively mentioned that they felt they learned better because the visual
aspects of the whiteboard made it easier to understand what the teacher was teaching. They also
mentioned that, when the teacher used the whiteboard, the lessons were much more interesting. For
example, one student stated, It makes me pay attention to the teacher more. When the teacher just
stands up there and talks, I get easily distracted (Beeland Jr., 2001).
3. Does having the opportunity to touch and interact with the board affect your learning? Why or why
not?
All students responding to this question, except one, mentioned that the use of touch affected their
learning in a positive way. One student stated, Yes, I get into learning when it s hands on. When I just
listen, I don t understand as well. Other students mentioned that touching the board made their
learning experiences more fun and interesting. One student did comment, It really doesn t do anything.

The Importance Of Poverty In Literature
The way things are written can have an effect on the audience drawn in. Most people are used to
generalized, every day vocabulary, as opposed to more complex and intricate words and grammar.
When reading an article, the easier the words are to interpret, the easier the article is to read. However,
this is not always the case. Sometimes, papers are going to be written using more advanced
vocabulary. They may even include data in the form of charts and tables. This is when it gets harder
for a general audience to read and interpret. It may be more accurate and scientific, but is it too
complex for people the comprehend? For example, there is a controversial topic of poverty on the rise.
Some people believe it is due to how one grows up, others believe it is the lack of compensation, and
some even believe it all deals with race. The two articles, What Do We Think Poverty Looks Like? ,
written by Tracie McMillan, and, Poverty, Race, and the Contexts of Achievement: Examining
Education Experiences of Children in the U.S. South , written by Maryah Stela Fram, Julie E. Miller
Cribbs, and Lee Van Horn, reveal thoughts on what contributes to poverty. The difference is, these two
articles are using two very different genres. The scholarly article, written by Maryah Stella Fram, Julie
E. Miller Cribbs, and Lee Van Horn focuses on poverty and what social workers can do to minimize
the effects. The writers of this article chose to focus on an expert audience that have deep knowledge

How Schools Put These Into Place Essay
How schools put these into place:
At Moorlands Primary we have our own safeguarding policy in which we have and must follow at all
times regarding to the safety of all the children, If I was to ever have a cause for concern for a child
inside of school, I would fill out the cause for concern sheet. Once I have completed this form it has to
be signed and dated straight away from the schools Senior Designated Person (SDP). Any of the
information noted must be kept in a separate named file and in a secure cabinet, not with the child s
educational file. These files with then be the responsibility of the SPD. The child s information will be
shared within the school only if it is in the need to know basis and in the child s strictest interests and
making sure that it will always be kept confidential.
The child s information will only be kept in this file and must be kept up to date with all records of
concern. Copies of referrals, invitations to the child protection conferences, core groups and reports
will also be stored here.
When the child has left the school, the SDP has to contact the new school to make sure that the file is
despatched to the new school in a secure and appropriate manner and that the evidence is retained to
validate how the file was reassigned. This may be done by having a written confirmation of receipt,
have evidence of a recorded delivery or both.

Niki Caro s Techniques In Whale Rider
In the prominent historical movie Whale Rider directed by Niki Caro, she wished to convey the
immensely significant idea that anybody should be able to be a leader, male or not. She wanted people
to realise all of the females that ve been misused in this society because they are not good enough for
power roles. Caro used a variety of techniques to help the reader understand this idea. These include:
Voice over, close up shot and dialogue. The significant idea in this movie that anybody should be able
to be a leader, male or not, that means that the leader should not necessarily have to be a male it can be
a female too, because females are equally competent and can be just as proficient at being a leader as
males can. For example, in this movie 12 year old Paikea Apirana was far from what he Grandfather,
Koro Apirana, wanted for a leader for his traditional Māori tribe (Ngati Konohi) because of one thing,
she was a girl. She would be a perfect leader, she was smart, charismatic, determined, courageous,
fluent in Te Reo Māori and strong. These attributes are present throughout the story and is displayed in

How Does Tacitus Describe The Culture Of The German
The Germania written by Tacitus served as an ethnography of Germans that lived in the lands beyond
Roman control. Tacitus goes through every aspect of culture and in some cases compares Germans to
Romans. He describes German culture as a whole in the first half of the reading, then moves on to
discuss each individual tribe and their customs. Tacitus defines race in very broad sense, drawn from
how he depicts Germans in contrast to Romans. We see that geography and culture play a large role,
although they differ slightly from tribe to tribe, many maintain similar customs. Through the
Germania, we see that Tacitus differentiates race on the basis of physical appearance, lifestyle, and
regard for women. One of the more obvious indications of racial difference, is seen through physical
characteristics. Tacitus praises in the fact that their bloodlines are so pure due to the fact they never
intermarried with outsiders, He goes on to say that the lack of immigrants to Germany may be due to
the fact that land there is undesirable to live on, and so immigration to Germany was ostensibly
unheard of. The physical features Tacitus accredits to Germans are: fierce blue eyes, red hair, and large
frames (4). Another aspect he finds uniform for Germans are their clothes, they ... Show more content

My First Day In High School
Today is August 10th, 2065 and it is my first day of Year 6 and I am only 9 years old. I sighed as I
finished speaking for the online journal and I watched the spoken words turn to typed words on the
holographic screen. I closed my eyes and put my head in the palm of my pale hand as I closed up the
journal, unable to think of anything else to write at the moment. After a few more seconds of just
sitting at the desk, I decided I could just finish writing later, so, I decided to get ready for my final
year at the Skill School.
Skill School is the first school all kids are enrolled in. Everyone starts at age 5 and typically leaves at
age 11 to go to one of four secondary schools: Offense, Defense, Agriculture, or Health. Or if you aren
t skilled enough to make it to one of those schools you got placed in the fifth, inferior school, the
Other School. I started school at age 5, just like every other normal kid does. I went through Years 1,
2, and 3 but last year I got a letter during our break saying I was being bumped to Year 6 at barely 9
years old.
My heart raced along in time with my thoughts about the day. If I was being honest, I was feeling
rather nervous and..scared I guess, though, scared doesn t really cover exactly how I m feeling. It s
like I m scared and nervous and excited and so many other things and I just couldn t explain it. It was

Analysis Of Joachim Patinir s Triptych, The Penitence Of...
Netherlandish use of triptychs three distinct art pieces that simultaneously exist as individual images
and as a collective picture usually were presented as devotional images and altarpieces. Joachim
Patinir s triptych, The Penitence of Saint Jerome (c. 1512 1515, Metropolitan Museum of Art, NY),
employs both the same form of traditional triptychs and the Netherlandish tradition of extended
panoramic landscapes; however, the triptych breaks traditional convention. The three separate panels
share the same landscape which allows the figures to exist in the same pictorial space. This maintains
an unbroken continuation of the landscape, which adds not only to the content within a single panel,
but to the entire narrative of the triptych. Yet, each individual panel is also worthy of its own analysis
and discussion. The left panel depicts the first of three saints, Saint John the Baptist, in the midst of
his signature baptizing of Christ. A river flows from the furthest reaches of the landscape down to the
bottom frame, with Christ standing thigh deep in the water, a dove alighting from God perched in the
clouds in the top left. Saint John kneels over him on the riverbank while a group of people huddle in
the distance behind the baptism scene. In traditional style, the triptych simultaneously depicts a central
scene as well as past and future narrative events present here as Saint John preaching chronologically
before the actual baptism of Christ. The central, larger panel

The Mutation Of The Horror Genre
Kalmina (Alex) Wu Josh Jackson Media Studies 10 30 September 2014 The Mutation of the Horror
Genre Horror can be defined as a genre meant to psychologically trigger individual fear with the
presence of certain supernatural or abstract characteristics. The genre is dependent on people s
fascination with unrealism and the sensation that comes from experiencing fear personified into
tangible elements on a screen. Horror films have thrilled audiences for decades, revealing stories of
the more sinister parts of life. The popular allure that stems from the genre comes from the tension
moviegoers experience when aroused by specific stimuli uniquely present in these cinematic features
(Walters). Over time, as the genre progressed, the standardized elements found in a typical horror
movie began to shift in different directions primarily due to changing societal circumstances and
increasing consumer demand for cinematic innovation. The expansive nature of the different codes
and conventions within the horror genre, coupled with the evolution of society s fascination with these
characteristics, has led to the mutation of the genre itself in order to allow for unique approaches to a
familiar style in response to both economic developments and taste shifts within the consumer
industry. Definitions of horror tend to emphasize the psychological effect it has on audiences.
Specifically, they highlight the internal terror that arises from encountering threats to existence.

conflict between India and Pakistan since the 20th century? There are three major factors that are

Analyzing Precise Electronic Structure Of The Different...
The core aim of the present work is to completely analyze precise electronic structure of the five
different doped BaTiO3 systems and the bonding interactions between the constituent atoms. This aim
is achieved successfully by adopting maximum entropy method (MEM). In this section, the
importance of electron density studies in structure analysis, the formalism of MEM method, the
principle, MEM methodology followed in this work to elucidate the electron density are given
elaborately.
1.9.2.1 Electron density The electron density is a quantum mechanical observable, that can be
measured through scattering experiments, in particular X ray diffraction from the crystals. The
possibility of measuring charge density in a crystalline system from its X ray diffraction pattern was
conceived several years ago when Debye and Scherrer explained the existence of halos in a powder
photograph where the images of the electronic orbit around the atoms [Debye et.al., 1918].
Electron density is the measure of probability of an electron being present at a specific location. The
regions of electron density are usually found around the atoms and its bonds. The probability of
locating an electron at one point (or) another can be calculated quantum mechanically. This
calculation gives a quantity called electron density. Electron can be viewed as a stationary wave (or) a
cloud of negative charges. The electron density is considered as a periodic function of position in a
crystal, reaches to a

Academic Dishonesty In A College Education
Academic dishonesty is the plagiarism of someone else s work, cheating with unapproved materials,
fabrication, or collaborating with other students on individual assignments. In other words, if you didn
t solve that problem, think those thoughts, collect that data, or write that paper from your own
thoughts and brainpower, there had better be citations and references to give credit to the original
individual who did. Earning a college education is built on the foundation of being academically
honest so your degree and university are reputable. Without academic honesty, your education would
be discounted when compared to others that earned a degree while maintaining their academic honesty
and upholding the academic policies of their university.

The Problem Of Addiction Among Teenage Addiction
Eight grade, a time of merely adolescence. It has been recorded that by 8th grade 28% of adolescents
have consumed alcohol, 15% have smoked cigarettes, and 16.5% have used marijuana. A drug can be
defined as a something which alters your mind or body that is not food something all of these
substances have in common. As the years go by there has been a massive increase in underage
consumption of illegal substances. These substances which young people are using are known for
being very addictive, and being taken so young addiction is much more likely to occur, possibly
having more severe consequences. Throughout history, a plethora of cultures have contributed to this
problem of addiction which can be seen within their historical roots. The collective perception that
serious drugs could cure almost anything when used for medicinal purposes, was a major ignition to
the overall issue. As more and more countries began to desire these various drugs as they became
more available, the use of drugs spread rapidly through what is known today as the global drug trade.
Through expansion of familiar substances known as coffee, and opium during the earlier centuries, the
concept of addiction has evolved into what our society has become today. Use of drugs or illegal
substances has been a recurring theme over the past centuries. Originally discovered in Yemen, coffee
gradually become a favorite among the people. There were several legends on how exactly coffee

How To Find A Reliable Health Website
Overview
In the era we are living in, the internet has become the number one source of information (it is the
reason you are reading this by the way). This is due to its convenience and speed. Nowadays you no
longer have to rummage through a whole library to get a book on a topic you want; just a click on
your computer or phone and you are sorted. The trend is no different when it comes to health matters.
It is this tendency that has led to the emergence of consumer health information that helps persons
keep their health in check as well as make wise health decisions for them and their families.

mississippi burning trial Essay
The Mississippi Burning Trial was not for the cold blooded murders of three young civil rights
workers, but rather for the violation of their civil rights. The federal government wanted to break
Mississippi s white supremacy stronghold on the South. The Mississippi Burning Trial proved to be
the opportunity to do so. The three branches of the federal government and their various departments
were actively involved in bringing about this civil rights trial in Mississippi and these activities and
personal views are well documented in court records, department records, and the press.

The number of violent attacks on black citizens as well as outsiders fills volumes of record books.
Michael Schwerner joined forces with SNCC along with his chief aid, James Chaney, a black
Mississippi native. They both had hopes that the federal government would be pushed by their
numbers to increase FBI and federal protection for the students. The third man on their team was
Andrew Goodman. He was a reasonably wealthy, white, 20 year old from Manhattan. Idealistic and
eager to work, Andrew had no clue that his first day in Mississippi would also be his last. On the night
of June 21st in Neshoba County the three young men disappeared after being stopped on a bogus

knew the three had been murdered. The press followed the search and brought the case to the nation s

DNS Essay
The Domain Name System or DNS is an international address system developed to ensure that every
computer connected to the Internet has its own address. DNS assigns addresses to Internet web servers
[10]. However, in the DNS system, that address is actually a set of numbers like 173.194.39.78. This
set of numbers is called the computer s Internet Protocol (IP) address.
The Domain Name System is most often described as the Internet s phone book or address book. All
of us Internet users use it on daily basis without even realizing it. Its basic task is to convert human
readable website name like coursera.org into its computer readable numerical IP address like
107.21.240.231.Since such strings of numbers are difficult for humans to memorize, DNS allows you
to assign a domain name, such as facebook.com to you IP address. So, the domain name is simply an
address on the Internet. It has to be unique just like physical address or phone number.
Computers (and other network devices like smartphones or tablets) use IP addresses to identify each
other on the network and route your request to the site you are trying to access. It is just like dialing a
phone number to reach the person you want to talk to, but thanks to DNS, you don t need to maintain
your own address book of IP addresses. You will simply connect via DNS server (also called domain
name server or just name server ). Domain name system servers match domain names like
coursera.org to their associated IP addresses.

Introduction The skin, the most important organ in the human body has many vital functions
including: sensation, thermoregulation, protection and synthesis of vitamin D. Routinely and
consistent assessment and monitoring of the patients skin condition is one of the most important duty
we have as nurses. This is very important because any change in the condition of the skin may often
be an indication of underlying disease Injury of either the epidermis or the dermis can result in
systemic infection, increased morbidity, increased cost of care, and negative psychosocial
consequences (Schindler, Kuhn, Christopher, Conway, Ridling Simpson; 2011). Wound healing is a
very complex process. Wound healing has three phases: the inflammatory phase, the proliferative
phase, and the maturational or remodeling phase. These phases might overlap at times (Porth, 2011).
Inflammatory Phase The inflammatory phase starts at the time of injury with the formation of a blood
clot and the migration of phagocytic white blood cells into the wound site. The first cells to arrive, the
neutrophils, ingest and remove bacteria and cellular debris. After twenty four hours, the neutrophils
are joined by macrophages that continue to ingest cellular debris and play an important role in the
production of growth factors for the proliferative phase (Porth, 2011).
Proliferative Phase The proliferative phase typically follows and overlaps with the inflammatory

Molière s play Le Tartuffe is a neoclassical comedy written in the 17th century. It is a satire in which
Molière s main objective is to expose society s weaknesses and errors in order to improve them. He
satirises the flaws of the french upper middle class, the Bourgeois, in many ways. For example how
they were expected to act a certain way that was considered the norm . He attemps to show us that
deception was common among the upper middle class. Also how some people tried to maintain a

Impact Of The Enlightenment On Modern Political Thought

Mrs. Orens/Mr. Reiss
April 1, 2016 The Impact of the Enlightenment on Modern Political Thought
The philosopher John Locke once said, [g]overnment has no other end, but the preservation of
property ( John Locke ). The social contract is the fundamental basis for modern government. This
idea affects everything we believe a modern state should represent for itself and its people. This way
of understanding the role of government was inspired by the writings of the Enlightenment era
philosophers. This way of understanding the role of the state and its people is significantly different
from what was believed in ancient Athens and Rome. The Enlightenment era philosophers did more
than just think of new ideas of government; their works not only inspired changes during the 18th
century, but also continued to shape modern governments. While it is true that certain forms of
democracy evolved in ancient Athens and Rome, modern governments differ significantly from these
ancient societies. In some cases, the very words put forth by the philosophers were written directly
into the constitutions of countries practicing these new ideas. Without the contributions of John Locke
and other enlightenment philosophers, democracy and government as we know it today would not
exist.
The shape of modern government in America and Europe today comes from many different ideas that
existed before the Enlightenment even began. Concepts in ancient Greece are

Developmental Stages And Theories From Birth From Adolescence
Developmental Stages and Theories from Birth to Adolescence
Neurological Development
According to the Urban Child Institute, the first three years of development are a crucial time for brain
development. The human nervous system starts to develop at around day eighteen after conception
(Carlson, 2014, p. 55). The brain stem is vital to instinctive functions, such as reflexes, breathing, and
heart rate (Urban Child Institute , 2016). These are functions in the body that just happen without
thinking about doing anything. The cerebrum is a large portion of the brain, which connects the
cerebellum to the brain stem (Urban Child Institute , 2016). This part of the brain is where complex
processes like memory and learning take place. The exterior of the cerebrum is the cerebral cortex,
this part is not fully developed until adulthood and this is where sophisticated activities, such as
planning and decision making are taking place (Urban Child Institute , 2016).
The brain is also broken into four smaller pieces called lobes, they are the occipital lobe, parietal lobe,
temporal lobe, and frontal lobe. The occipital lobe is in the back of the brain and is in charge of vision.
The parietal lobe is related to bodily sensations such as your body temperature, pressure and pain
(Urban Child Institute , 2016). The temporal lobe is intricate to hearing, language skills, social
understanding, and observations of people s eyes and faces (Urban Child Institute , 2016). The frontal

Childhood Obesity Is Becoming A Major Public Health Crisis...
Introduction
Childhood obesity is becoming a major public health crisis in both children and adults. The American
Heritage dictionary simply defines obesity as a condition of increased body weight that is due to
excessive build up of fat in the body. The CDC (Center for Disease Control), use the BMI (Basal
Metabolic Index) and CDC growth charts to determine obesity and overweight in adolescents and
children. The BMI for age percentile is determined by plotting the BMI value. Using this chart,
obesity is defined as a BMI value that is at or above the 95th percentile for children who are of the
same sex and age. Overweight is described as a BMI value at or above the 85th percentile but lower
than the 95th percentile. Between the year 2003 and 2006, a National Health and Nutrition study
indicated that at least 31.9 percent of both children and adolescents were overweight, and 16.3 percent
were obese (Lossing, 2010). The number of obesity has increased significantly over the years causing
it to be designated as a global epidemic by the World Health Organization (WHO) in 1998(Jadavji
2006). Cases of childhood obesity are highest in developed countries. However, there is a steady
increase in its prevalence in developing countries also. Interestingly, there are proportionately more
overweight girls than boys, especially among adolescents. Childhood obesity has significant
consequences on both the psychological and physical health of a child. These consequences include;

Working Capital Concept And Definitions Essay
2 2 Working capital concept and definitions
According to, the first formation of the concept of working capital was possibly first established by
Karl Marx (Bhattacharya 2006). Working capital was defined as current assets minus current
liabilities. In general, this definition is also identified as networking capital . are sometimes Current
assets called as gross working capital. The current assets can be divided into four main elements: (1)
cash (2) marketable securities (3) accounts receivable and (4) inventory on the other hand the three
main elements of current liabilities are: (1) accounts payable; (2) expenses payable, accrued expenses
for example wages and taxes; and (3) notes payable. An additional definition for working capital is
inventory + accounts receivable accounts payable.
Definition of Working Capital
Working capital refers to funds used by the enterprise in their regular operations or processes. Also,
the Working capital is the existing fund for executing daily processes of an enterprise and can be
found in its net current assets (Adeniji, 2008). Akinsulire (2008) also defined working capital as the
capital that is important for the daily manufacturing process of goods to be sold by an enterprise. For
that reason, it is the excesses of current assets over current liabilities.
As mentioned before working Capital is a very critical item of the balance sheet of any enterprise.

U.s. School Military Leadership
In recent years women in the United States have been making advancements in leadership roles. One
place that women, in the past, had not been able to take on more power is the military. In just the past
few years women have been allowed to serve in combat roles, however little advancements have been
made for them to serve in special operation forces. In just the last few weeks some this has been
questioned as two women are about to graduate from ranger school. Having women graduating from

leadership roles today. The fact that these two women have been able to make it to graduation at an

However there are still many obstacles for female advancements. While these two women were able to
graduate from the ranger program, according to military rules, even though they have completed the
ranger program they are not allowed to try out or serve on the ranger regiment (Oppel). This shows the
heavy divide in female to male leadership roles. Despite the heavy restrictions placed on female
soldiers this new development may be just what is needed to allow women to have a place in higher
leadership roles. According to Oppel the Army and other branches of service have until January 1st to
decide what jobs are going to be open to women. This shows the leading role these women have
already taken on. They are setting the way for other women to make advancements in all fields.
Women have been taking on more responsibility in the military as time has moved on. They have
served our nation in combat and some have even been a part of support teams to help Ranger and
Navy SEALS in the past. According to Oppel, some women even perform intelligence gathering as
part of SEAL Team 6 s top secret Black Squadron. This shows that women have been a vital part of
military victories for years. One commander mentioned in Oppel piece in defense of women is
Colonel Fivecoat. He said that he would always make sure two women would be assigned to his

Community Health Nursing Reflection

Community Health Nursing Reflection
According to Phyllis Meadows (2009), Community health nurses are valued for their adaptability and
willingness to provide care in many settings, including community health clinics, churches, homeless
shelters, and schools, (p. 19). Community health nurses aim to improve health outcomes and improve
the infrastructure used to monitor and manage disease within the community. Healthy People 2020 has
established benchmarks and monitored progress over time to improve health outcomes. Each
community has unique needs and the role of the community health nurse is to work with and provide
comprehensive care to patients within the community. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

These factors can create barriers for a community nurse in providing care for individuals and
addressing the needs of the community. Because of diverse populations it is important that community
nurses develop cultural competence and are educated and prepared to address these differences within
the community.
Nursing diagnosis and interventions appropriate to use within this community include: Nutritional
deficiency related to lack of access to grocery stores. Interventions may include nutritional
assessment, identification and referrals to help resources (e.g., WIC or assistance office), and
education regarding appropriate foods needed to meet nutritional needs. A diagnosis of risk for fluid
volume deficit related to farming during high temperatures includes interventions such as educating
and emphasizing the need for adequate fluid intake during times of increased activities and high
temperatures and how to recognize signs of dehydration. Nursing interventions for a diagnosis of risk
for injury related to work environment/occupation or environmental wastes may include educating on
proper body mechanics and ensuring equipment in use is working properly and individuals are trained
how to use such equipment. Another diagnosis of risk of poisoning related to chemicals associated
with place of employment, high possibility of drinking water contamination, and presence of lead
paint. Nursing interventions for this diagnosis can include labeling chemicals

Karl Von Muller Weakness
Every speech given is a lesson to be learned. Not just by those listening but to the person giving it as
well. The informative speech I gave was no exception. I learned a great deal from this speech about
my strengths and weaknesses as a speaker. In this paper, I will delve into the details by dividing the
speech into the usual categories of content, delivery, and organization. In each of these categories I
will discuss the strengths and weaknesses I noticed in my informative speech in each of these areas.
The first thing I noticed about my content was how the audience received it. The topic was Karl von
Muller and his naval campaign during world war one. When surveyed, the class seemed to be of the
consensus that they had no idea who he was. With this feedback, I moved forward on the speech
believing a topic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From my perspective in front of the class I felt the students were not interested in hearing about the
career of a long dead German sailor regardless of how successful he was. It should be noted this is
from my perspective which was being effected by communication apprehension at the time. This led
to me skipping several points I wanted to include in the speech. Particularly in the middle section of
the speech when I was talking about Muller s personal character and the way he conducted himself
while captain of the SMS Emden. The content is only a third of what makes a speech. Delivery is
perhaps the most important part of a speech. No matter how engaging, relevant, and entertaining a
topic is, if the speaker fails in every way to properly give the speech no one is going to listen to the
speaker. In chapter five of the communication age connecting engaging this is described as Source
distractions occur when the person...we are listening to exhibits a behavior that inhibits our ability to
listen (Edwards 114). As I reflect on the speech, I believe my delivery was a mix of good and bad

Journalists And Public Relations Practitioners
Journalists and Public Relations (PR) practitioners interact with each other every day as part of the
process of news production. Journalists communicate towards public relations practitioners with
requests for information or material to help produce the stories they are writing. While public relations
practitioners advise stories and deliver journalists with information they have created themselves in
hope to be published in the newspaper.
The relationship between journalists and public relations practitioners is, and has always been,
complicated. The relationship between these two is one of mutually dependency if not symbiotic, but
also ambivalent if not hostile. This ambiguous relationship has arisen due to the misconception of the

Public relations is regarded as more subjective, serving the interests of the client first and foremost

Although the tensions between the two industries may be strained, this is a relationship based on need

Even though they may have differences, both professions have the similar objectives created around
there public. The main intention of journalism profession is to provide it public with accurate, reliable
trustworthy information to the general public. Public relations objective is to influence a certain target
public, intended to influence the opinion of this audience to promote an individual or organisation that
the firm is looking after.
The adversarial relationship between the two professions is commonly viewed as journalists being the
gatekeepers who serve the public through offering them a window to the world (Singer, 1998) and
public relations practitioners subsequent the press agentry model (Grunig and Hunt 1984) where the
purpose of the practitioner is to expand publicity for their particular organisation through controlled

The Use Of Wisdom In George Orwell s Animal Farm
Wisdom is something that all people have to a certain point, but some people just do not use it.
Benjamin had wisdom because he has experienced everything, but just never used it. Napoleon uses
his wisdom to know how to use propaganda to be able to control the other animals. Old Major was
using his wisdom to start a rebellion. Animal Farm, a novel written by George Orwell, uses Benjamin,
Napoleon, and Old Major as symbols to show how wisdom manifests in many different ways. In the
novel, George Orwell uses Benjamin as a symbol of an apathetic person, and he uses this character to
show that there are people who did not care in Russian society. Benjamin does not show his wisdom
until later on in the novel. Because of that, his emotions overthrow

Chesty Puller: Chesty Puller was a U.S. Marine who is highly noted for his service in the battle of
Guadalcanal where he earned both a Bronze Star and a Navy Cross (5). He also led the 1st Marine
Regiment in the Battle of Peleliu (5). Chesty Puller is important to WWII because he became an idol
within the Marines and all throughout the U.S. military. This is all in addition to his extraordinary
military performance in the Pacific, which most likely enabled the U.S. to win the war in the Eastern
Theatre. Omar Bradley: Omar Bradley was an important American military leader during WWII. He
was in charge of the 28th and 82nd divisions and he commanded the 2nd Corps in the Tunisia and
Sicilian campaigns (6). However, his most notable accomplishment was his success as leader of the
First Army during the Normandy invasion (D Day), which led to the success of the entire campaign
(6). It is his instrumental role in the D Day invasion that makes him so important to America and the
history of WWII. Chester Nimitz: Chester Nimitz was the U.S. Admiral put in charge of the U.S.

Cancer is still seen by many as an incurable disease that slowly takes over healthy human tissue, and
ultimately causes death. 2Through advances in medical science, different physical procedures have
been developed to treat cancer for example, chemotherapy, radiotherapy and surgery. In recent years
however, there has been a growing perception by cancer specialists and patients that the onset and
treatment of cancer may be affected by psychological factors. A new field of research called psycho
oncology has emerged to investigate how the mind can slow down, or even reverse, the progress of
cancer. The results from such studies however, have not always been conclusive, and in the case of
retrospective studies, have often proved ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
15 Research was then directed to cancer patients. Many studies concentrated on women suffering from
breast cancer, and consisted of interviewing them after a significant event involving their cancer (such
as diagnosis, or an operation). The patients were then followed up after a number of years. However,
the results often proved contradictory, as has occurred in several retrospective studies. In one well
known case, 16Ramirez et al. (1989) found that there was a prognostic association between severe life
stressors and the recurrence of breast cancer. Barraclough et al. (1992) 17 on the other hand, 18 found
that psychosocial adversity such as depression, or a severe life event, was not conducive to a relapse
of cancer and this conclusions has since been supported. 19 There is good evidence for any relation
between stressful life events and breast cancer (McGee 1999, p.1015).
Certain studies found that patients could be classified into different psychological groups, and that a
pattern emerged in the life span of the patients in each of the groups. In one study, Greer et al. (1979)
classified 2069 female patients suffering from breast cancer into one of four groups , 21 the Denial,
Fighting Spirit, Stoic Acceptance and Feelings of Hopelessness groups. The Denial group consisted of
those patients who

The shift in government, most commonly from a monarch structure to a democratic, influenced a dignified sentiment amidst Europe. Social Darwinism projected the scientific theories and ideas made by Charles Darwin, onto human fundamentals. Darwin recognizes that survival of the fittest applied to the power between Europe s nations, where the surviving nations are ultimately the ones of higher power (Doc 5). For instance, Kaiser Wilhelm II made the suggestion to Germany, that it was in their best interest to access the foreign market. As much as the country s industry was performing well by itself already, Wilhelm notes out to Germans, that they should nevertheless recognize the benefits of participation in foreign trade. • 6. Carol Ann Duffy s Revision of Masculinist Representations... Carol Ann Duffy s Revision of Masculinist Representations of Female Identity Carol Ann Duffy is one of the freshest and bravest talents to emerge in British poetry any poetry for years , writes Eavan Boland (Duffy, 1994, cover). This courage is manifest in Duffy s ability and desire to revise masculinist representations of female identity and her engagement with feminine discourse, a concept which, as Sara Mills points out: has moved away from viewing women as simply an oppressed group, as victims of male domination, and has tried to formulate ways of analysing power as it manifests itself and as it is resisted in the relations of everyday life. (p.78) It is these aspects of Duffy s work that I wish to address here by examining ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ian Gregson comments on this when he states that: Duffy explores how masculinist ways of seeing determine how women are regarded, even by themselves, and how language determines the experiences it is supposed merely to describe, how representation makes dummies of us all. (p.101) This notion of female identity as a constructed in masculine discourse but accepted by all, is a recurring theme in Duffy s poetry. She stereotypes many of her characters in order to foreground their incongruous place within a modern society. She also highlights the inadequacies of language as a form of expression in the Lacanian sense that no meaning is sustained by anything other than reference to another meaning (Lacan, p.83). Language, therefore, is an unreliable form of expression and, as such, is deconstructed by Duffy through the use of dramatic monologues to represent speech rather than written forms, and by her juxtaposition of seemingly random nouns and adjectival phrases and her use of compound words. Language is used to create a tension throughout her work, particularly in her insistence on foregrounding the construction of the poem itself. This tension is demonstrated in Recognition , from Selling Manhattan (1987), where Duffy explores the fabrication of female identity and the inability of language to re present that identity by employing a dramatic monologue voiced by a despondent housewife: [...] I love him, through habit, but the proof has ... • 10. The Importance Of Poverty In Literature The way things are written can have an effect on the audience drawn in. Most people are used to generalized, every day vocabulary, as opposed to more complex and intricate words and grammar. When reading an article, the easier the words are to interpret, the easier the article is to read. However, this is not always the case. Sometimes, papers are going to be written using more advanced vocabulary. They may even include data in the form of charts and tables. This is when it gets harder for a general audience to read and interpret. It may be more accurate and scientific, but is it too complex for people the comprehend? For example, there is a controversial topic of poverty on the rise. Some people believe it is due to how one grows up, others believe it is the lack of compensation, and some even believe it all deals with race. The two articles, What Do We Think Poverty Looks Like? , written by Tracie McMillan, and, Poverty, Race, and the Contexts of Achievement: Examining Education Experiences of Children in the U.S. South , written by Maryah Stela Fram, Julie E. Miller Cribbs, and Lee Van Horn, reveal thoughts on what contributes to poverty. The difference is, these two articles are using two very different genres. Niki Caro s Techniques In Whale Rider In the prominent historical movie Whale Rider directed by Niki Caro, she wished to convey the immensely significant idea that anybody should be able to be a leader, male or not. She wanted people to realise all of the females that ve been misused in this society because they are not good enough for power roles. Caro used a variety of techniques to help the reader understand this idea. These include: Voice over, close up shot and dialogue. The significant idea in this movie that anybody should be able to be a leader, male or not, that means that the leader should not necessarily have to be a male it can be a female too, because females are equally competent and can be just as proficient at being a leader as males can. Tacitus goes through every aspect of culture and in some cases compares Germans to Romans. He describes German culture as a whole in the first half of the reading, then moves on to discuss each individual tribe and their customs. Tacitus defines race in very broad sense, drawn from how he depicts Germans in contrast to Romans. We see that geography and culture play a large role, although they differ slightly from tribe to tribe, many maintain similar customs. Through the Germania, we see that Tacitus differentiates race on the basis of physical appearance, lifestyle, and regard for women. One of the more obvious indications of racial difference, is seen through physical characteristics. Tacitus praises in the fact that their bloodlines are so pure due to the fact they never intermarried with outsiders, He goes on to say that the lack of immigrants to Germany may be due to the fact that land there is undesirable to live on, and so immigration to Germany was ostensibly unheard of. Netherlandish use of triptychs three distinct art pieces that simultaneously exist as individual images and as a collective picture usually were presented as devotional images and altarpieces. Joachim Patinir s triptych, The Penitence of Saint Jerome (c. 1512 1515, Metropolitan Museum of Art, NY), employs both the same form of traditional triptychs and the Netherlandish tradition of extended panoramic landscapes; however, the triptych breaks traditional convention. The three separate panels share the same landscape which allows the figures to exist in the same pictorial space. This maintains an unbroken continuation of the landscape, which adds not only to the content within a single panel, but to the entire narrative of the triptych. Yet, each individual panel is also worthy of its own analysis and discussion. The left panel depicts the first of three saints, Saint John the Baptist, in the midst of his signature baptizing of Christ. A river flows from the furthest reaches of the landscape down to the bottom frame, with Christ standing thigh deep in the water, a dove alighting from God perched in the clouds in the top left. Saint John kneels over him on the riverbank while a group of people huddle in the distance behind the baptism scene. The Mutation Of The Horror Genre Kalmina (Alex) Wu Josh Jackson Media Studies 10 30 September 2014 The Mutation of the Horror Genre Horror can be defined as a genre meant to psychologically trigger individual fear with the presence of certain supernatural or abstract characteristics. The genre is dependent on people s fascination with unrealism and the sensation that comes from experiencing fear personified into tangible elements on a screen. Horror films have thrilled audiences for decades, revealing stories of the more sinister parts of life. The popular allure that stems from the genre comes from the tension moviegoers experience when aroused by specific stimuli uniquely present in these cinematic features (Walters). Over time, as the genre progressed, the standardized elements found in a typical horror movie began to shift in different directions primarily due to changing societal circumstances and increasing consumer demand for cinematic innovation. The expansive nature of the different codes and conventions within the horror genre, coupled with the evolution of society s fascination with these characteristics, has led to the mutation of the genre itself in order to allow for unique approaches to a familiar style in response to both economic developments and taste shifts within the consumer industry. Definitions of horror tend to emphasize the psychological effect it has on audiences. Specifically, they highlight the internal terror that arises from encountering threats to existence. The conflict between India and Pakistan is so big they are warning each other with Nuclear war impacted by physical geography. How has the physical geography of Southern Asia impacted the conflict between India and Pakistan since the 20th century? There are three major factors that are affecting the relationship between India and Pakistan relating to geography. These three factors are nature, history and religion that I will be writing about. One of the ways India and Pakistan are in a conflict is because of religion and the geography of the region has impacted religion. Religion is in various places, in different atmospheres. Most people believe that symbolism, beliefs are all shaped by the world we live in claims Elizabeth Bornman (1), this tells us most commonly people are born into their religion. • 22. Analyzing Precise Electronic Structure Of The Different... The core aim of the present work is to completely analyze precise electronic structure of the five different doped BaTiO3 systems and the bonding interactions between the constituent atoms. This aim is achieved successfully by adopting maximum entropy method (MEM). In this section, the importance of electron density studies in structure analysis, the formalism of MEM method, the principle, MEM methodology followed in this work to elucidate the electron density are given elaborately. 1.9.2.1 Electron density The electron density is a quantum mechanical observable, that can be measured through scattering experiments, in particular X ray diffraction from the crystals. The possibility of measuring charge density in a crystalline system from its X ray diffraction pattern was conceived several years ago when Debye and Scherrer explained the existence of halos in a powder photograph where the images of the electronic orbit around the atoms [Debye et.al., 1918]. Electron density is the measure of probability of an electron being present at a specific location. The regions of electron density are usually found around the atoms and its bonds. The probability of locating an electron at one point (or) another can be calculated quantum mechanically. This calculation gives a quantity called electron density. Electron can be viewed as a stationary wave (or) a cloud of negative charges. The electron density is considered as a periodic function of position in a crystal, reaches to a ... • 28. DNS Essay The Domain Name System or DNS is an international address system developed to ensure that every computer connected to the Internet has its own address. DNS assigns addresses to Internet web servers [10]. However, in the DNS system, that address is actually a set of numbers like 173.194.39.78. This set of numbers is called the computer s Internet Protocol (IP) address. The Domain Name System is most often described as the Internet s phone book or address book. All of us Internet users use it on daily basis without even realizing it. Its basic task is to convert human readable website name like coursera.org into its computer readable numerical IP address like 107.21.240.231.Since such strings of numbers are difficult for humans to memorize, DNS allows you to assign a domain name, such as facebook.com to you IP address. So, the domain name is simply an address on the Internet. It has to be unique just like physical address or phone number. Computers (and other network devices like smartphones or tablets) use IP addresses to identify each other on the network and route your request to the site you are trying to access. It is just like dialing a phone number to reach the person you want to talk to, but thanks to DNS, you don t need to maintain your own address book of IP addresses. You will simply connect via DNS server (also called domain name server or just name server ). Domain name system servers match domain names like coursera.org to their associated IP addresses. ... Wound healing is a very complex process. Wound healing has three phases: the inflammatory phase, the proliferative phase, and the maturational or remodeling phase. These phases might overlap at times (Porth, 2011). Inflammatory Phase The inflammatory phase starts at the time of injury with the formation of a blood clot and the migration of phagocytic white blood cells into the wound site. The first cells to arrive, the neutrophils, ingest and remove bacteria and cellular debris. After twenty four hours, the neutrophils are joined by macrophages that continue to ingest cellular debris and play an important role in the production of growth factors for the proliferative phase (Porth, 2011). Mrs. Orens/Mr. Reiss April 1, 2016 The Impact of the Enlightenment on Modern Political Thought The philosopher John Locke once said, [g]overnment has no other end, but the preservation of property ( John Locke ). The social contract is the fundamental basis for modern government. This idea affects everything we believe a modern state should represent for itself and its people. This way of understanding the role of government was inspired by the writings of the Enlightenment era philosophers. This way of understanding the role of the state and its people is significantly different from what was believed in ancient Athens and Rome. The Enlightenment era philosophers did more than just think of new ideas of government; their works not only inspired changes during the 18th century, but also continued to shape modern governments. While it is true that certain forms of democracy evolved in ancient Athens and Rome, modern governments differ significantly from these ancient societies. In some cases, the very words put forth by the philosophers were written directly into the constitutions of countries practicing these new ideas. Without the contributions of John Locke and other enlightenment philosophers, democracy and government as we know it today would not exist. The shape of modern government in America and Europe today comes from many different ideas that existed before the Enlightenment even began. Concepts in ancient Greece are ... Developmental Stages And Theories From Birth From Adolescence Developmental Stages and Theories from Birth to Adolescence Neurological Development According to the Urban Child Institute, the first three years of development are a crucial time for brain development. The human nervous system starts to develop at around day eighteen after conception (Carlson, 2014, p. 55). The brain stem is vital to instinctive functions, such as reflexes, breathing, and heart rate (Urban Child Institute , 2016). These are functions in the body that just happen without thinking about doing anything. The cerebrum is a large portion of the brain, which connects the cerebellum to the brain stem (Urban Child Institute , 2016). This part of the brain is where complex processes like memory and learning take place. The exterior of the cerebrum is the cerebral cortex, this part is not fully developed until adulthood and this is where sophisticated activities, such as planning and decision making are taking place (Urban Child Institute , 2016). The brain is also broken into four smaller pieces called lobes, they are the occipital lobe, parietal lobe, temporal lobe, and frontal lobe. The occipital lobe is in the back of the brain and is in charge of vision. The parietal lobe is related to bodily sensations such as your body temperature, pressure and pain (Urban Child Institute , 2016). The American Heritage dictionary simply defines obesity as a condition of increased body weight that is due to excessive build up of fat in the body. The CDC (Center for Disease Control), use the BMI (Basal Metabolic Index) and CDC growth charts to determine obesity and overweight in adolescents and children. The BMI for age percentile is determined by plotting the BMI value. Using this chart, obesity is defined as a BMI value that is at or above the 95th percentile for children who are of the same sex and age. Overweight is described as a BMI value at or above the 85th percentile but lower than the 95th percentile. Between the year 2003 and 2006, a National Health and Nutrition study indicated that at least 31.9 percent of both children and adolescents were overweight, and 16.3 percent were obese (Lossing, 2010). The number of obesity has increased significantly over the years causing it to be designated as a global epidemic by the World Health Organization (WHO) in 1998(Jadavji 2006). • 41. U.s. School Military Leadership In recent years women in the United States have been making advancements in leadership roles. One place that women, in the past, had not been able to take on more power is the military. In just the past few years women have been allowed to serve in combat roles, however little advancements have been made for them to serve in special operation forces. In just the last few weeks some this has been questioned as two women are about to graduate from ranger school. Having women graduating from ranger school, a grueling leadership course in the military, shows advancements women are making in leadership roles today. The fact that these two women have been able to make it to graduation at an elite military leadership course is huge. This is the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However there are still many obstacles for female advancements. While these two women were able to graduate from the ranger program, according to military rules, even though they have completed the ranger program they are not allowed to try out or serve on the ranger regiment (Oppel). This shows the heavy divide in female to male leadership roles. Despite the heavy restrictions placed on female soldiers this new development may be just what is needed to allow women to have a place in higher leadership roles. According to Oppel the Army and other branches of service have until January 1st to decide what jobs are going to be open to women. This shows the leading role these women have already taken on. They are setting the way for other women to make advancements in all fields. Women have been taking on more responsibility in the military as time has moved on. They have served our nation in combat and some have even been a part of support teams to help Ranger and Navy SEALS in the past. According to Oppel, some women even perform intelligence gathering as part of SEAL Team 6 s top secret Black Squadron. This shows that women have been a vital part of military victories for years. One commander mentioned in Oppel piece in defense of women is Colonel Fivecoat. He said that he would always make sure two women would be assigned to his company. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 43. Karl Von Muller Weakness Every speech given is a lesson to be learned. Not just by those listening but to the person giving it as well. The informative speech I gave was no exception. I learned a great deal from this speech about my strengths and weaknesses as a speaker. In this paper, I will delve into the details by dividing the speech into the usual categories of content, delivery, and organization. In each of these categories I will discuss the strengths and weaknesses I noticed in my informative speech in each of these areas. The first thing I noticed about my content was how the audience received it. The topic was Karl von Muller and his naval campaign during world war one. When surveyed, the class seemed to be of the consensus that they had no idea who he was. With this feedback, I moved forward on the speech believing a topic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... From my perspective in front of the class I felt the students were not interested in hearing about the career of a long dead German sailor regardless of how successful he was. It should be noted this is from my perspective which was being effected by communication apprehension at the time. This led to me skipping several points I wanted to include in the speech. Particularly in the middle section of the speech when I was talking about Muller s personal character and the way he conducted himself while captain of the SMS Emden. The content is only a third of what makes a speech. Delivery is perhaps the most important part of a speech. No matter how engaging, relevant, and entertaining a topic is, if the speaker fails in every way to properly give the speech no one is going to listen to the speaker. In chapter five of the communication age connecting engaging this is described as Source distractions occur when the person...we are listening to exhibits a behavior that inhibits our ability to listen (Edwards 114). As I reflect on the speech, I believe my delivery was a mix of good and bad ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Human Behaviour Cancer is still seen by many as an incurable disease that slowly takes over healthy human tissue, and ultimately causes death. 2Through advances in medical science, different physical procedures have been developed to treat cancer for example, chemotherapy, radiotherapy and surgery. In recent years however, there has been a growing perception by cancer specialists and patients that the onset and treatment of cancer may be affected by psychological factors. A new field of research called psycho oncology has emerged to investigate how the mind can slow down, or even reverse, the progress of cancer. Many studies concentrated on women suffering from breast cancer, and consisted of interviewing them after a significant event involving their cancer (such as diagnosis, or an operation). The patients were then followed up after a number of years. However, the results often proved contradictory, as has occurred in several retrospective studies. In one well known case, 16Ramirez et al. (1989) found that there was a prognostic association between severe life stressors and the recurrence of breast cancer. Barraclough et al. (1992) 17 on the other hand, 18 found that psychosocial adversity such as depression, or a severe life event, was not conducive to a relapse of cancer and this conclusions has since been supported. 19 There is good evidence for any relation between stressful life events and breast cancer (McGee 1999, p.1015). Certain studies found that patients could be classified into different psychological groups, and that a pattern emerged in the life span of the patients in each of the groups. In one study, Greer et al.
