Natural Light In Gothic Architecture
Since ancient times and throughout the history of architecture, to present days, natural light played
a key role in building design. In a physical sense, its interaction with the surrounding environment
affects and transforms the perception of space. It can also instigate and incite different emotional
reactions in humans. Lightis also used and has been used in sacred architectureas a symbolic value.
Its manipulation can evoke feelings of spirituality. This essential natural resource in some cultures
and religions represents the manifestation of the divine. In this essay, I will use three influential
architectural style periods to compare the use of natural light in both a physical and symbolic sense:
the ancient Egypt period, the Gothic period in France, and the 20th Century architecture.
Ancient cultures, such as the Egyptians, designed temples taking into consideration the effects of
natural light. They intentionally directed the behavior of light to illuminate and emphasize space, as
well as to focus attention on rituals and elements such as sacred ... Show more content on

These handcrafted windows played an important role as they served as a sort of wall along the
nave and side aisles that let the beams of light to enter the cathedrals in a more dramatic way
when shining through the glass art, creating at the same time what some call, a divine light.
Because a cathedral nave flooded with light would have a dramatic effect on the faithful, vast
window space became a necessary characteristic of the Gothic style and responded to one of the
goals of a growing and dominant religion in the medieval era (Schlager, Lauer, Gale group,

Analysis Of Blind Light

Viewing Review Blind Light
The film Blind Light by Sarah Pucill is an experimental 16mm film that was presented as a part of
the Cinematheque s Studio DIM Cinema . This twenty two minute film, made in 2007, consists of
a series of long, slow shots of the sky from the interior of a studio loft. In these shots, the filmmaker
gradually adjusts the exposure and zoom, affecting the brightness levels and perspective. Pucill also
controls the shot by closing and opening the blinds on the windows being looked out of.
Additionally, the audio on the film is largely absent with only a few short comments and outside
noise sporadically throughout. This film creates a lonely and isolated atmosphere with it s use
of durational shots, absence of action and bare setting. Narration is also used to further this
effect. For example, after the long period of silence at the beginning of the film, the artist says in
a calm voice I can t look, so I ll shut it out . The nature of this phrase expresses a sense of defeat,
which can be interpreted literally, in terms of the brightness of the light coming from outside as
well as metaphorically, referring to a painful experience or difficult situation that might be easier to
disregard than address. Following this statement, the second line is I want to see the sun, to be
blinded , which contradicts the former, though follows a similar theme, evident of a troubled
mindset.

Lumpy Skin Disease Essay
INTRODUCTION: Lumpy skin disease (LSD) is viral in origin called Neethling virus belongs
to a family of Poxviridae which includes pox virus for both sheep and goat (sheep pox virus and
goat pox virus), and it is infectious and eruptive disease the insects play important role as a vector
by biting specially within wet summer and autumn months. All cattle breed susceptible to infected
and there is no evidence or study present that a specific age or breed of cattle are more than others
to exposed to infection, generally; younger are more severely affected. Spreading of the infection
may occur less commonly by direct contact through saliva, skin lesions, milk, semen, or nasal
discharge of infected animals. Typically, nodules or lumps on the

Going After Cacciato by Tim O Brien Essay
Going After Cacciato #65279;It is generally recognized that Tim O Brien s Going After Cacciato
(1978) is most likely the best novel of the Vietnam war, albeit an unusual one in that it
innovatively combines the experiential realism of war with surrealism, primarily through the
overactive imagination of the protagonist, Spec Four Paul Berlin. The first chapter of this novel is
of more than usual importance. Designed to be a self sufficient story (McCaffery 137) and often
anthologized as one, this chapter is crucial to the novel in that it not only introduces us to the
characters and the situation but also sets the tenor of the novel and reveals its author s view of this
war in relation to which all else in the novel must be... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One thing that the book misses, however, is the same suffering, perhaps even worse, that was
imposed upon the Vietnamese people. This is typical of novels from this time; they all exhibit a
bold ethnocentricism (Lomperis 5).
However, the first chapter does contain one very powerful image of destruction from the
Vietnamese viewpoint, which helps to make this somber portrait of the VietnamWar more complete.
We are told that Berlin and his squad are taking refuge inside a nearly ruined Buddhist pagoda:
...in shadows was the cross legged Buddha, smiling from its elevated stone perch. The pagoda
was cold. Dank from a month of rain, the place smelled of clays and silicates and dope and old
incense. It was a single square room built like a pillbox with stone walls and a flat ceiling that
forced the men to stoop or kneel. Once it might have been a fine house of worship, but now it
was junk. Sandbags blocked the windows. Bits of broken pottery lay under chipped pedestals. The
buddha s right arm was missing, but the smile was intact. Head cocked, the statue seemed
interested in the lieutenant s long sigh. (O Brien 4) In this otherwise very American novel, which
focuses on the American soldiers experiences, feelings, and minds (Lomperis 63), and in which
Vietnam is presented primarily as merely a terrain and a climate, this image of the pagoda seems to
be symbolic of the country of Vietnam at this time. Invaded, desecrated, nearly destroyed, it still
endured,

Which Jurisdiction Should Govern The Agreement Between The...
The issues are what jurisdiction shall be used to govern the deal between the parties, issues with
the formation of the agreement, warranties, warranty damages, consequential damages, search
costs, lost profits, recession. The first issue is determining which jurisdiction should govern the
agreement between the parties Article 2 of the Uniform Commercial Code, the Common law, or
the CISG? When the subject matter of a transaction is for the sale of goods, Article 2 of the
UCC is used to analyze the deal between the parties. Article 2 of the UCC governs the formation,
performance, and damages. When the subject matter of the transaction is not for the sale of goods
or is to provide a service, the common law is used to analyze the deal between the parties. The
Common law governs formation, performance, and damages. When the transaction is for non
consumer goods and between parties from different nations, the Contracts for the International Sale
of Goods is used to govern the transaction. The CISG governs formation, performance, and
damages. In this case, the party s agreement would be considered a hybrid contact as the agreement
includes a goods component, as well as a service component. Since the agreement between the
parties is a hybrid contract we can use the Predominate Purpose Test or the Gravamen Test to
determine whether the UCC or the Common law should govern. Using the Predominate Purpose
Test we can look at what the predominate purpose of the contract was for the

Imperialism Vs Ww1
Imperialism Imperialism was a big thing a long time ago. Imperialism is when a country takes over
another country using military force. Almost all countries in Europe like Britain, Germany France,
Spain, Italy, Belgium, Portugal, and Netherlands during the imperialism fase were involved with
taking over other countries. The main target for a lot of the countries was African countries. The
wanted Africabecause they were an easy target and the had lots of resources like rubber, oils, and
many different metals. The European countries ended taking almost all of africa but they all
wanted more so the ended equally dividing up the land and if they wanted it they could fight each
other for it which they ended up doing. Asian countries also fought for land like Japan and the
boxer rebellion. Also the US took parts of Cuba and the Philippines.... Show more content on

It was a battle between Germany, Britain, France, US, Russia, Italy, Austria Hungary, and the
Ottoman Empire. WW1 started when Archduke Ferdinand was assassinated by the Black Hand.
A month later Austria Hungary declared war on Siberia while Siberia made an alliance with
Russia, within a week Siberia, Russia, France, and Great Britain were lined up against Austria
Hungary and Germany. In 1914 Germans came up of with the Schlieffen Plan which was to take
out France and Russia on the Western front and the Eastern front. In 1917 The Russians had a
revolution and Lenin took over and backed out of WWI and gave Germany back it s captured

years later Wilson went in front of congress and declared war against Germany after they had sunk

central powers lost the war. They then had to sign the Treaty of Versailles, which punished

Tennyson Owen
War Poems Their Ideas The poems, The Charge of The Light Brigade and Dulce et Decorum Est,
both deal with an idea of war. The writers both have the same viewpoint about war, but the way
that they articulate those ideas on paper varies. Through literary devices in the poems, the authors
show two different wars, but the same tragic outcome death. These two poems showcase how
people can have different outlooks on war, but in the end they all end with the same deadly
outcome. These writers, Wilfred Owen and Alfred Lord Tennyson, uses tone, metaphor or repetition,
and rhyming and diction to present a more concrete version on their perception of war. The... Show

The tone that Alfred Lord Tennyson created for this poem has an honorable and celebratory feel
to it for those whom were lost. The overall tone of the poem capitalizes on the his idea of war
and how we should be acting towards those who have given up themselves to hopefully makes
their country better. Wilfred Owen s Dulce et Decorum Est also created a specific tone in his
poem as well. His poem takes on a completely different tone though. In his version of a war piece,
Owen is showing us how war is bad and how much he feels that it is wrong, and how we won t
like the conclusion that results from them. This war poem, about the First World War, has a
more negative look on the actions of war. An example of this tone can be seen in the first stanza.
According to the Bloom s Literary Reference Online, The first stanza presents a scene saturated
with misery. (Dulce et Decorum Est) Throughout the entire piece Owen gives us the tone of
misery, awful challenges, and death all negative feelings. We can see in the last couple of lines
of the poem how Owen really felt about war, The old Lie, Dulce et Decorum est / Pro patria
mori. (27 28) This roughly translates to it is sweet and right to die for your country. It is a
wonderful thing that one could die for their country, the soldiers should be filled with honor to do
so. But Wilfred Owen tells us

Public Space Changed
How is public space altered? It is defined as the shifts that occur in the atmosphere. These shifts can
sometimes be embarrassing, upsetting, and awkward. On the other hand, these shifts can be
insightful, empowering, and inspiring. The outcome of the pivotal moments in life cannot be
controlled because humanity does not have the power to control the circumstances around them.
The 2011 tornado, the decision to become a Christian, and the moment I chose to join the Dream
Team are pivotal points in my life where I altered the public space around me. The first memorable
experience happened on April 27, 2011 when a catastrophic tornado tore through the city of

Indigenous Australians
Australian aboriginals are a group of people who are deemed to be the indigenous occupants of
Australia. The Australian High Court appreciated them to share a common as well as biological
ancestry as Australia s original occupants (de Plevitz, Croft, 2003). There has however been a lot
of ignorance with reference to this group of people more so from the Australians. This has mostly
been due to ignorance of these people with most arguments and opinions based on myths (Morphy,
Morphy, 1984, p.459 478).
Australia has enjoyed over a century since it gained its Federation status from its colonizers, having
joined the Commonwealth in 1901 (Le Roy, Saunders, 2005, pp. 7 9.). Despite this, the status of its

To this end, they came up with further recommendations to enhance the reconciliation process
amongst them being to abolish all racial discriminative elements that still existed out of the 1901
constitution. They also recommended that a new Preamble be set forth that would recognize the
Aboriginal as well as their fellow native tribes as being the original residents of the State. Their final
proposal was directed towards the insurance of enactment of legislation that would enshrine
processes that would forge forth means of uniting the entire state of Australia by way of agreement
or treaty. These treaty or agreement would further ensure the resolving of any issues that detracted
reconciliation.
All these are clear indications that the Australians failed to relate and know the aboriginal people.
Had this been so, there then would have raised no demand for a treaty at the end of reconciliation.
The demand has thus made the establishment as well as the operations of the Council for
Aboriginal Reconciliation more or less an irony. This is due to the fact that the same had been in
place as a political response to the failed attempts to come up with a proposal treaty. These attempts
and enactment of the council had been predeceased by the Bicentenary of European settlement
/invasion that was held in 1988.
Such lack of recognition has also been reflected by the ignorance and or deliberate attempts to

Similarities Between Reservation Blues And Huckleberry Finn
Twain wrote his novel after the Civil War in 1865 during the Reconstruction Era. His novel is
about a young boy named Huckleberry Finn who flees from home and drifts along the
Mississippi River; it takes place in the 1840s. On the other hand, Alexie s novel is a story of a
cluster of Native Americans who create a band; they call themselves Coyote Springs. Alexie s
literary work introduces many events that occurred in the nineteenth century near the Mississippi
River, much like Twain s novel. Because the novels introduce or take place in American features,
the novels are known as American literature. The novels inaugurate certain themes that relate to
American aspects as well. Both Twain s nineteenth century classic American novel The Adventures
of Huckleberry Finnand Sherman Alexie s 1995 novel Reservation Blues are distinctly American
because of the way they are driven by theme. Twain s novel is clearly American literature because
of the protagonists traditions and regulations. Huck lives among a community with cruel and
absurd tasks. Huck s guardians teach him Christian merit and manners. Huck narrates, The
Widow Douglas she took me for her son, and allowed she would sivilize me (1). The two sisters
take Huck as a son and teach him religious beliefs and American culture. Although Huck does not
like being religious, he still has a beneficial idea of American religion and culture overall. After
Huck leaves his home, he surrounds himself with a more vile

The Beauty of Nature Essay examples
The Beauty of Nature
The sunset was not spectacular that day. The vivid ruby and tangerine streaks that so often
caressed the blue brow of the sky were sleeping, hidden behind the heavy mists. There are some
days when the sunlight seems to dance, to weave and frolic with tongues of fire between the blades
of grass. Not on that day. That evening, the yellow light was sickly. It diffused softly through the
gray curtains with a shrouded light that just failed to illuminate. High up in the treetops, the leaves
swayed, but on the ground, the grass was silent, limp and unmoving. The sun set and the earth
waited.
On the edge of a small wood, an ancient tree sat hunched over, the gnarled, old king of a once vast
domain that had long ago ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The bees still buzzed and hummed among the flowers; the deer still grazed softly among the
undulating waves of grass, yet in that moment, their movement seemed arrested, held in check by
the waning sun.
And the winds came.
The wild west wind came down through the fields, rousing the deer from their reverie, and
swaying the bee studded flowers. From its highest bough to the loose sand on its mighty roots, the
ancient tree quivered lightly, yet was untroubled by the breeze. Many a storm had passed over the
tree, yet no rain had managed to drown those fathomless roots, no hail had managed to bite the iron
bark.
As the stars hang, unchanging in the nighttime sky, and as the sun moves in ceaseless circles
around the earth, so the tree had endured. And even as the wind rustled in its outermost boughs, the
tree looked out to the sun, as if for reassurance about its own unchanging eternity. On the horizon,
no yellow eye looked back. The sun was gone.
In a tumult of wind and rain, a hail of twigs and leaves thundered through the trees and tore the
arching grasses out by the roots. The deer bolted and hid, quivering, in the darkest thickets. The
sky boiled, and the younger saplings were bent almost to the ground. Even as the shadows bounded
up the stalks and blades of weeping grass, and the soft plink of falling rain quickened to a constant
hiss and sputter, the sun found its equal. A thousand stars came down to earth and unleashed their
pent up fury on that wood.

O A And Mad Max Analysis
D.O.A and Mad Max are thought provoking films with unique plots and characters who make you
feel sympathetic towards their situation. Even though both films have a diverse setting and time
period, similar ideas can be found between the two. That being said, with such differing plots it is
also fairly easy to find contrasts between the films.
D.O.A was directed by Rudolph MatГ© and the film was released in 1949 by United Artists.
D.O.A reveals the story of Frank Bigelow, who in a police station recounts the events that led to
his murder through a luminous toxin. The story is told in a large flashback as he describes his
journey from his home in Banning, California to San Francisco. In San Francisco, he plans to
have a solo vacation away from his secretary/ girlfriend Paula Gibson. This all changes when he
is poisoned by an unknown assailant with a luminous toxin that will kill him in a matter of days.
After hearing the devastating news, he sets out to uncover the mystery of why he was poisoned.
After gathering information from various sources, Frank learns that he has been targeted because
he knows about a bill of sale which he had notarized. Knowing such information could potentially
jeopardize a cover up of a murder that was framed as a suicide. After revealing the final pieces of
his story to the police, Frank Bigelow dies at the station while uttering his finals words Paula . He
is pronounced D.O.A by the police.

does not get distracted by other people s opinions. He is confident in his own choices and is able
to differentiate between right and wrong. Feelings and emotions always play with someone s state
of being, but with Carson, he holds them back. Through the support of his friends and their
relationships, he makes those feelings become more visible.Values and morals are two things
many stand by, but for Carson trust is a big thing for him. Meyer portrays him as an honorable

Carson is straightforward in his answers because he believes that his own option and beliefs are

show that he stands by his opinions no matter how harsh it comes off, to other people; I don t
want a win the lottery. I want a ranch. Far as I , concerned, this ain t somethin we oughta even

the entitlement Carson develops along the way. To an independent and firm holder, Carson

Examples Of Heroism In World War One Poetry
World War One poets Rupert Brooke and Wilfred Owen both use poetry to examine their
differing perspectives surrounding the idea of heroism in war. Brooke s The Soldier depicts an
idealistic, patriotic view towards fighting for his country, whereas Owen s Dulce et Decorum est
demonstrates a realistic view of the senseless horrors of war. Both poets utilise similar poetic
techniques of imagery and sound devices to express their contradictory views of the atrocious
events of the greatest war that the world had ever seen at that time.
The Soldier was written at the beginning of World War One before anyone had a chance to
experience the atrocity of a world war. The sonnet portrays a romanticised view of the positives of
war for his home ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By creating these nurturing, peaceful images of a beautiful countryside, Brooke evokes pride
from his primary audience, which in turn creates a sense of nationalism. Furthermore, references
to the themes of heaven and the afterlife create comforting images in the reader s mind. Brooke
describes a pulse in the eternal mind for the hearts at peace under an English heaven , suggesting
that those who die fighting for their country will find themselves in a heaven as idyllic as
England. The paradisiacal images created by Brooke are a stark contrast to the gruesome images
featured in Owen s poem. Dulce et Decorum est is rich in similes that graphically illustrate the
goriest details of war. The soldiers in the poem are described as old beggars who are coughing
like hags , which illustrates a loss of dignity, health and the innocence associated with youth. As
the poem progresses, a soldier is the victim of a gas attack and is described vividly, with white
eyes, writhing in his face as blood comes gargling from his froth corrupted lungs, obscene as
cancer . Owen s dark subject matter is further explored through his juxtaposition of children ardent
for desperate glory and soldiers marching like beggars under sacks . The use of these similes and
images shocks the reader and conveys the ruthless reality of war.
Furthermore, the distinctive use of sound devices by both poets further illustrates their opposing
views on war. The use of alliteration to create

Overload In Hockey Training
Before assigning a program regime it is important to analyze both the needs of the individual and
the biomechanics of their required movements. When looking at athletes specifically, a coach
should analyze not only the biomechanical and physiological requirements of the athletes but also
how to improve transfer of training. Goals of hockey players often include improving power and
speed of skating stride or increasing accuracy of the wrist shot. The training plan the athlete should
be given to achieve these goals should involve exercises that mimic contraction types, rate of force
production and biomechanics of these movements. Experience of the athlete and the combination
of general and specific training are crucial factors that determine how training will transfer to
performance. Although weight training will increase the amount of force an athlete can provide,
this does not necessarily guarantee an increased performance within their sport. For this reason,
coaches should apply research that is specific to their athletes sport to increase mechanical
specificity, while applying principles of overload and variation. Overload is when a stimulus of
sufficient strength, duration and frequency is applied to an... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Intermodal Surface Transportation Act Of 1991 Case Study
The Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act of 1991 (ISTEA) was created to better the

emphasized intermodalism the seamless linking of highway, rail, air, and marine transportation

flexibility in transportation programs such as safety, traffic mitigation and reduced emissions. This

There are so many destructive choices that teenagers make when they have nothing to keep their
minds occupied. Some of the different choices teenagers have made when bored are vandalism,
speeding while driving, reckless endangerment, smoking, drugs like marijuana, Amphetamines,
Adderall, Opioid painkillers, Synthetic marijuana, Tranquilizers, Cough medicine, Vicodin,
Hallucinogens, OxyContin, Sedatives, Ecstasy (MDMA), LSD, Cocaine, Ritalin, Inhalants, and
Salvia as well as drinking alcoholic beverages while definitely under age. The CDC says that
people from the ages of 12 to 20 make up 11 percent of all alcohol consumed in the United States.
Federal law in the United States says that you must be 21 or older to consume alcohol or any
sort. That 11 percent may not seem so huge when you consider all of the alcohol being consumed
by the United States each year, but remember that 11 percent are all teens and kids under the
legal drinking age. However drinking is not the only path teenagers can choose out of boredom.
Teenagers are also turning to drugs of all sorts no matter what kind of drug it is. As a matter of
fact it is estimated that 3,300 try marijuana for the first time every day in the United States alone.
A study has done that found that 12th graders who smoke marijuana are 65 percent more likely to
get in a car accident. In addition 51.7 teenagers 10th grade through 12th grade have smoked pot
sometime between the last month to the last year. Furthermore though marijuana is not the only

The Test Measure Innate Intelligence
Application of Theory
When one speaks of intelligence or how bright another person is, the often quoted figure is the IQ
or intelligence quotient. It is the most often used standard of how smart a person is. This paper
shall look at what intelligence tests measure, how the IQ tests measure intelligence and interrogate
their history. It shall then apply the tests to school policy and hence evaluate their validity.
There are a slew of tests that attempt to measure how intelligent human beings are. They all
measure different aspects and those factors will be covered here. One of the misconceptions is that
the tests measure inborn intelligence. Few of the activities are designed for that purpose. They
actually measure a person s interaction with the environment and what they have learned from that
interaction. The most common tested aspect is critical thinking. Instead of straightforward
questions, intelligence tests offer questions with a twist. It is assumed that the most intelligent
people will see obvious flaws in the obvious answers (Steinberg Williams, 2015). Some intelligence
tests also measure reflexes, both mental and physical. The assumption is quick reaction times
reflect an active brain and in the line of thinking, a more intelligent person.
One would assume that intelligence testing in the United States began with psychiatrists or
government officials. It was actually a football coach who coached the University of South
California at the start of the century. He

2.5REVIEWS ON RFID IN WAREHOUSE
The RFID system mainly includes three parts: reader, antenna, and RFID tag, as shown. Because
of the uniqueness of the RFID tag, the reader can locate and track the target once it is attached on
an RFID tag. Passive tags are used to attach on the target object because they are much cheaper,
long lived, lightweight and have a smaller foot print. The reader can communicated with host
computer through RS232.
1.An RFID interrogator, or more often called an RFID reader, is a RF transmitting and receiving
device used to communicate with an RFID Tag. The device was named an interrogator because it
interrogates the tags. The term reader is a more colloquial term, but is sometimes misleading in
that many of these devices also have the ability to encode, or write information to an RFID Tag. A
reader basically acts as an RF sensor because it can communicate with RFID tags that are within its
range and is designed to interface with an information process system.

Hippocampus Amnesia Effects
Abstract
This paper explores two published journals that report on results from research conducted on human
brain. The first journal, Parkin, Alan J (Parkin,1996) suggests that brain damaged patients such as
amnesia are related to the hippocampus and also existing memories. The second journal from
Deborah E. Hannula (Hannula, Tranel, Cohen, 2006) suggests that hippocampal amnesia results in
both short term and long term memory. Together, these findings suggest that hippocampal damage
can affect the memory.

Comparing The Iliad And The Aeneid
Homer once said, Two urns on Jove s high throne have ever stood, the source of evil one, and one
of good; from thence the cup of mortal man he fills, blessings to these, to those distributes ills; to
most he mingles both. What the great philosopher is establishing is that the source of good and evil
are the same while being different. Reminiscent of how The Iliadand the Aeneidare both epic
poems that share similarities such as the setting, the reoccurring motif of gods, as well as aspects
like the two heroes and the goals to be reached by the plot.
When comparing the similarities between the two epics, The Iliad and the Aeneid, one of the
most obvious is the setting of which they each take place. They are a part of the same era, one
where the world was chaotic and still needed the frivolous gods to meddle. The Trojan Warwith its
destructive power was a significant setting in both poems and led to the development of each
respective plot. In the face of the dreads of the warfare in both epics, even the most powerful of
warriors will experience fear, and the poets tell the audience details that both armies regret that the
war ever began. The Iliad took place during the actual war. It is very much centralized around the
occurrences of the war. Though the status of fighting a war is glorified, the men can be seen dying
ghastly deaths; women becoming enslaved and shamed, and families torn apart. Ah, put no faith in
anything the will of the gods opposes! See, Priam s virgin

Quantum Dots Lab Report
Pre Lab for the Quantum Dots Lab
Sara Lyons, Aleye Momodu, and Sam Winslow
Goal: Synthesize Cadmium Selenide (CdSe) Quantum Dot Crystals using Cadmium Oxide (CdO)
and Selenium (Se) dissolved in Triphenylphosphine solution. The product created will be a
colloidal solution, bound to the exterior of the crystal lattice and it remains soluble in the
octadecene (Boatman Nordell). Along with this the product will most likely vary in color as well
due to the changes in wavelength, energy and transitions, that all correspond to a smaller crystal.
The variations in particle size will prove to be an important feature in the experiment, so the goal
is to use diverse size particles. The crystals are created in a solution in which they cannot be filtered
out since they do not settle.
Background of the Chemistry: Cadmium Selenide is an inorganic compound that is widely used for
research on nanoparticles. Cadmium Oxide is an inorganic compound that is mostly used for
creating other cadmium compounds because it crystallizes in a lattice like that of NaCl. Selenium
is an element that has nonmetal properties, but it is rarely ever found in its pure state, it is often
found as a compound. Both, selenium and cadmium are used to synthesize the CdSe used in this
experiment. Although these materials can be very hazardous, it has been proven that using these
items are the best option for this synthesis. The reasoning for this includes the temperature needed

How Does Shakespeare Use Deception In Twelfth Night
Most people have told a lie at least once in their life. People, both in reality and in fiction, have
been lying through disguises and through their words for centuries. For many, lying and deceiving
has become part of their day to day lives. Twelfth Night, one of William Shakespeare s many
famous plays, is a romantic comedy that displays a wide range of topics and themes including this
theme of lies and deception. The characters in the play use lies and deceit for several different
reasons, some of which are personal gain, revenge, and sometimes purely for entertainment.
Shakespeare first introduces the use of lies and deception for personal gain. Viola, a young women,

One of Olivia s servants, Malvolio, is hated by others for the way he treats them. For this reason,
he becomes the perfect target for Maria, Feste, Fabian, and Sir Toby s sweet revenge. When they
are planning to give Malvolio a forged love letter to humiliate him to Olivia and all others
around, Sir Toby says, He shall think by the letters that thou wilt drop that they come from my
niece, and that she s in love with him, (2.3.148 150). Not to mention, the fake love letter is made
even more believable when Maria admits she can write very like my lady, (2.3.143). Deceiving
Malvolio because of the way he treats others is the first time characters used lies and deceit for
revenge. The next time the characters are witnessed lying for reasons of revenge in Twelfth Nightis
when Sir Toby, Feste, Fabian, and Maria continue to mess with Malvolio and try to convince
Olivia that he has indeed gone crazy. After Malvolio has fallen for the counterfeit letter and goes
to meet Olivia acting very strangely, Maria explains to Olivia that Malvolio is in a very strange
manner, and is, sure possessed, (3.4.8...9). In saying this, Maria is suggesting that Malvolio is
crazy and possessed by the devil, trying to hurt Malvolio more than they already have. Nearing
the end of the play, when everyone admits to playing the trick on Malvolio, Feste states, thus
whirling of time brings in his revenges meaning what goes around, comes around (5.1.363 364).
Feste is inferring that Malvolio got what he deserves for what he always did to them. For the
purposes of revenge and personal gain are not the only reasons characters turn to lying and

Leadership Is A Leader And Knowing
What exactly is leadership? Leadership is taking in to accountability your responsibility as a
leader and knowing and doing what you need to do to guide people in the right direction. A
quote that I thought would be good to share you all is quoted from a person named Vinci
Lombardi. In his own words, Leaders aren t born, they are made. And they are made just like
anything else, through hard work. From this quote, you figure out that leaders weren t born as
leaders; they worked hard to get to the level where they are now. Even though they may learn
aspects on how to lead quicker than someone else does, that doesn t mean that anyone can t be a
leader. Whether small or big, never give up! A leader also needs to be able to stand up for what...

If a leader is motivating and pushing his or her followers to accomplish the assigned mission, this
part of the leader is good, however, if the leader doesn t even attempt to join in and help the team,
that implies bad leadership. It implies bad leadership because, motivating someone isn t hard to
do. A leader goes above and beyond what is expected of him or her. Therefore, if a leader doesn t
want to help, this is a trait that a leader SHOULD NOT possess. A leader should be willing to
help his or her followers because it shows respect to the team because once in their life, the
leader was a follower as well. Is following a choice, or an unconscious want? It is actually both,
however it differs from situation to situation. For example, in the story Herd Mentality? The
Freakonomics of Boarding a Bus, the narrator said that most people gravitate to point A (Point A
is the bus stop closest to the narrator s apartment). There is also an alternative point that people
could go to, point B (Point B is the bus that is a block west from the first bus, point A). The
narrator also mentions that most people don t even think about the existence of point B nor the
amount of people that would be using the transportation from it. This is an example of a follower
going along the lines of an unconscious want or also known as peer

Speech On Surrogate Mother Surrogacy
SURROGATE MOTHERHOOD CHANGING PARADIGM IN INDIAN SOCIAL
SCENARIO
In all cultures of the world, motherhood is something which is considered to lie at the heart of the
meaning of love. The concept of a woman s love for her children is viewed as the most powerful,
ferocious, tender and unconditional love that exists. Motherhood for Indian women is a
psychospiritual phenomena and not just a psychosexual one. This psychospiritual meaning of all
the institutions of socialization, particularly marriage of which a child is the outcome, makes the
Indian context different from other societies. The preparation for mother baby interactions begin
much before a woman actually attains motherhood. Now the term motherhood is expanded to the
surrogate motherhood, which means that a women helps women i.e. if any women, couple cannot

Factors That Affect Political Attitudes Of Voters
There is a wide range of factors that influenced people when they cast their secret votes on Election
Day. The main research question driven by our survey was to know the factors that shape political
attitudes of voters. One of the main political attitude that we are looking at in this research is party
affiliation. In order to figure this out, out survey has been grounded around three mains theories.
The three main theories that we tested in our survey was about the tendency of certain demographic
group to support particular parties, the influence of childhood environment on party identification
and the myth of independents voters. The first theory discussed had been discussed in the Chapter 7
Party Coalition and Party Change shows how races, age, educational background and demographic
location have influence party coalitions. According to that theory, young, women, and racial
minorities tend to affiliate themselves with democrats whereas healthy white, evangelical white
programs tend to affiliate themselves with republicans. The second theory in the chapter 6 about
Party identification identifies how family, relative, and many others religious group influence party
affiliation. According to this theory, children tend to grow up and vote the way their parents do.
Therefore, families have the first and the most lasting influence on young people s developing
political opinions. As this children get older, various others group such as relatives and religious

The Report On San Bernardino s Terrorist
Overview (LaTasha McCoy) If you ve heard about the FBI s up hill battle with Apple regarding
the San Bernardino s terrorist(s), then you may or may not know what jailbreaking is.
Jailbreaking is the process that bypasses restrictions on iPhones and iPads, or any other smart
device, to install other apps and tweaks that were not approved by the software creator. [7] The
tweaks stem from what s known as roots which is the superstar of various opertaing systems:
Andriod, iOS, and Mac OS X. If someone should gain access through jailbreaking or rooting on a
particular device, that device can be easily accessed, modified, or swiped clean. [8] Jailbreaking
can be one of the most damaging things you can hear when it comes a smart device as it has
been argued that jailbreaking poses a huge security risk; Leaving user information open and
readily available to for anyone to steal and use, for a particular device that is considered
jailbroken, it will be vulnerable to countless malware attacks and much more. [8] In today s
time, many individuals have a smart phone, tablet or a laptop that can be easily hacked anytime
of the day, expect for Apple products for example. Apple uses complicated software that even
when we download and app from the iTunes stores, that app is technically a small world all on

Summary Of Anselm s Ontological Argument
Arguments for God are quite extensive, having taken many different forms throughout history and
Anselm s Ontological argument stands as one of the most famous. Anselm s argument begins with
the concept of God and, by using only a priori principles, attempts to establish the existence of God.
His specific Argument goes as follows: That than which nothing greater can be conceived (God)
exists in understanding, things are greater in reality than in understanding, therefore that than
which nothing greater can be conceived must exist in reality. Anselm s argument fails in two ways
Anselm falsely assumes that the God he proves, to exist, is supremely unique and the second
assumption that existenceis a quality that things can possess. Anselm believes... Show more content

However, why should existence in reality be either greater or worse? Why must a chair thought
of in the mind be either greater or worse than a chair in reality? No qualities are added to a chair
in reality when compared to one in the mind. Kant s famous argument against Anselm s is that
existence is not a predicate. Existence is different than other qualities such as height or weight
and cannot improve or degrade anything. When we talk about a chair it doesn t necessarily mean
that this supposed chair either exists or doesn t we add that after. Rowe summarizes Kant s
argument as follows, ... If existence were a predicate, the affirmative existential statement tigers
exist would be a redundancy and the negative existential statement dragons do not exist would be
contradictory (pg. 40). Ideas and concepts are essentially the same, whether they are tangible
things within reality or thoughts of the mind. There are no added qualities that an idea gains
through existing in reality. If a chair were thought up and then suddenly appeared in reality as an
exact replica of the thought, there would be no discernible difference between the two. Existence
is wholly separate from predicate s and this oversight by Anselm has led to a major flaw within his

Through false interpretations of the Quran, and the hunger for control among a select group of
male individuals, these women have now reached the climax of this battle for gender equality
since the days of Mohammed. Here we are, 14 centuries later to observe the strides time has
taken. Islamic women and girls today are still perceived as inferior to men. This belief is
prevalent in the everyday routines of a female living under religious standards. While there is a
great diversity among the extremity of islamic laws, depending where you are located
geographically, it is safe to say that an unfortunately high number of women experience
discrimination daily. Many of these social injustices are results of a secularized legal code.
Women are permitted only one spouse, while for men they can wed up to four. A young girl,
according to law, can be wed at the age of nine, while boys at fourteen. Once a woman is

While it s not technically illegal for a women to sue for divorce, it s a difficult process with harsh
ramifications. Men, in nearly every instance, win custody of the children, and women are left with
zero financial security afterwards. But this is not the worst of female suffering. Annually hundreds

What Are The Competitors Of Tesco
Competitors of Tesco PLC
The competitors of Tesco PLC are interested in the level of revenue and profit due to being able to
make decisions to improve themselves as a business. For example, cheaper prices. As the
competitors will need to find a way to attract customers from Tesco PLC for them to survive against
the competitors. Other interests from the competitors would be to have a competitive edge and the
changes in trends and technology. Also, to be the best in the industry of supermarket.
A competitor such as ASDAmay have conflicts with the workers for not being paid well enough.
This is a conflict because the workers could go somewhere else that s similar for a better wage
where the owners would reinvest into the wages of the workers. Another conflict may be with
the competitors over who s the best. For example, competing who has the best profit. This is a
conflict because of wanting to the best and attract the most customers for profit. Also, a conflict
may be with the customers by restricting choice, deals and higher prices. For example, only a
small variety of clothes. This is a conflict because the customers will go somewhere else for
buying products such as clothes for cheaper and more choice so then more customers will be
attracted. Therefore, there would be more profit.

Economic Equality Between The Social Classes Of The Great...
There should be greater economic equality between the social classes of the great United States of
America. While there is no agreement of a full blown communist or socialist revolution, a la Karl
Marx, there is agreement that there should be slight changes towards this idea of equality.
According to the Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy, a social contract (theory) is the view that
persons moral and/or political obligations are dependent upon a contract or agreement among them
to form the society in which they live (Friend). The current American contract is debatable, and the
exact definition depends on each person individually. Similar to Hobbes and Rousseau alike, Daniel
Mallock on American Thinker believes that the social contract... Show more content on

Economic inequality is a multifaceted, idea that breaks down into unequal distributions of
income, pay, and wealth. Of course, each individual definition is the inequality of distribution of
each concept, respectively ( How is Economic Inequality Defined? ). Income is the money
received from nearly everything a person is a part of: investments, bonds, stocks, property,
wages, salary, pension, rent, payment, etc. ( How is Economic Inequality Defined? ). By
definition, those with less of these investments and earnings are at a disadvantage than those
with more. Normal class citizens do not own thousands and thousands of stocks, large houses
and yachts, nor do they receive these large wages similar to the wealthy. Nonetheless, while this
seems like a tiresome argument, the cries are valid. The Scientific American states that, The top
20% of US households own more than 84% of the wealth, and the bottom 40% combine for a
paltry 0.3%. The Walton family, for example, has more wealth than 42% of American families
combined (Fitz). This notion relates to not only a small fraction of economic inequality, but to a
major gap between those that supposedly have it better. Pay refers to the payment from
employment only ( How is Economic Inequality Defined? ). This area is seemingly easier to
work with the idea of equality, for a job/career usually relies on skills alone. Usually is a key word
only due to the fact that networking and knowing the right people can

A New England Nun Analysis
An Analytical Essay of A New England Nun by Mary E. Wilkins Freeman
Independence is an empowering state where one feels no need to rely on another. In the short story
A New England Nun, Mary E. Wilkins Freeman demonstrates the internal struggle of a woman
accustomed to being solitary that she feels confined by her upcoming marriage. The author presents
the characterizations effectively through Louisa s internal independence, the comfort she has with
her household, the relationship she built with her fiancГ© and the connection she has with her late
brother s dog.
In this short story, Louisa s internal independence plays a major role in who she is as a woman.
Mary E. Wilkins Freeman describes Louisa as an introvert because she is someone who enjoys
being alone. She spends fourteen years of her life being isolated at home, waiting for her
fiancГ© to come back from his job in Australia. During those years, she learns how to be by
herself through the hard times and the pleasant ones Louisa s feet had turned into a path, smooth
maybe under a calm, serene sky, but so strait and unswerving that it could only meet a check at
her grave, and so narrow that there was no room for any one at her side (Freeman 66). This
demonstrates how she is so use to not having anyone by her side. This is why she creates her own
path through all the dark times she had to face on her own. In many ways this can foreshadow the
ending of the short story. This shows how she always counted on herself and

Marijuana Controversy Summary
This article discusses the actual controversy of marijuana uses, for both recreational and medical
purposes. McCarthy emphasizes on the opinion of different optometrists, who are concern because
patients are being asking questions related to marijuana uses and glaucoma, whether it is beneficial
or not to treat such disease. However, the American Academy of Ophthalmology does not have a
scientific evidence of marijuana effectiveness to treat glaucoma. In the 1970s different studies were
conducted, showing that marijuana could lower intraocular pressure. Nonetheless, doctors do not
back these studies, because medicinal marijuana can also make a weak intraocular pressure, and

Representatives Dana Rohrbacher, and Thomas Massie are among legislators who support a
legislative amendment to give states greater latitude concerning marijuana laws. They think of their
amendment as a reasonable one, because many doctors support the idea that medical marijuana

his colleagues to support the amendment. He highlights that research has shown very promising
results with the use of cannabis for epilepsy and some others neurological disorders. On the other
hand, Representative Frank Wolf disapproves with their opinion. Wolf is concerned that the public

widespread marijuana availability. Providing different opinions given by the U.S House of

Why We Shouldn T Use Instagram Essay
Why Kids shouldn t use Instagram There are many reasons why kids should not use Instagram.
Due to the excessive explicit material, that kids at such young ages should not be exposed to.
There are however some good reasons for kids to use Instagram. Instagram gives children a
chance to express their creative and talented sides, while using the art of photography and
picture editing, but like any good thing there is always someone out there that s got to ruin it for
everyone else. In the perfect society, you wouldn t have to worry about your children having to
be stalked or possibly harmed by people who need help with their problems relating to underage

One of which would be the use and enforcement of safety programs or failsafe systems for
parents to implement child locks on their Instagram. If we can find a way to block channels on
the television, and block inappropriate web pages from our computers then we should be able
to apply the same sort of safety control to our social media pages as well. According to a post
from an article titled 5 Instagram Safety Tips for Teens by Ali DeCesare, There are privacy
settings on Instagram that allow you to determine who follows you. With privacy settings,
sending out a request is the only way to become a follower of someone. This way is a lot safer
than having a public profile because only those who you approve to follow you can see your
pictures. Privacy settings also keep away unwanted followers because everyone who wants to
follow you has to go through your dashboard and be approved by you. Without Privacy Settings
on, it isn t only your followers who can see your picture. Anyone can search your profile and find
your pictures and profile if you don t have Privacy Settings on. This is my exact point, Instagram
has setting in place for your safety but sometimes, children have a tendency to go behind parents
back and undo these safety features. If parents aren t checking their children s devices on a daily
basis then kids could

Effects Of The Great Plains Region
Introduction
During the 1930 s, a period of severe dust storms caused great damage to the ecology and
agriculture of the Great Plains region in the United States. This period, known as the Dust Bowl,
was caused by severe drought conditions and poor farming practices put into place without proper
understanding of Great Plains ecology. The erosion of topsoil during this time produced extreme
dust storms that could reduce visibility down to one metre and had some dust storms even reaching
the east coast.
Today, the threat of human induced global warming has caused some scientists to speculate that the
Great Plains region is set to experience semipermanent drought conditions similar to what was
experienced during the Dust Bowl. However, other scientists have claimed that conditions will be
much tamer by comparison.. This inconsistency of results is discussed by Hoerling et al in their
paper Is a Transition to Semipermanent Drought Conditions Imminent in the U.S. Great Plains? In
their paper, it is suggested that the variance in results is due to the fact that the primary studies that
have been conducted have used different methods and models to predict drought conditions and
temperature in the Great Plains area. The models and methods discussed include the Palmer
Drought Severity Index, the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project, and the Community Climate
System Model.
In this paper, I will describe in fuller detail the three models discussed in the paper by Hoerling et al

Unknown Solution Of Metal Nitrate Salts Lab Report
RESULTS DISCUSSION The unknown solution of metal nitrate salts was identified to contain
silver (Ag+) and Calcium (Ca2). These cations were discovered through a qualitative procedure that
systematically separated the unknown ions from the solution by introducing known reagents and
observing the resulting reaction that presented characteristic chemical properties unique to each
cation. These observations guided the flow of the procedure, with the expected results of each step
accumulating to justify and confirm the proper identities of the cations. To begin the qualitative
scheme, 6 M HCl was added into the test tube containing the unknown solution. This step was
essential because HCl (aq) was expected to separate the two unknown ions on the principle of
solubility, the ability of an amount of a substance to dissolve in a specific amount of solvent.1 In
this experiment, since the solvent... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Arshdeep Singh Mrs. Mason English 10 A 24 February 2016 North Korea Iran in a race to be the
best developers of the worst Nuclear weapons From the 1700 s to the 1900 s, humankind has
gained much knowledge of nuclear energy, all of which started from mere curiosity to
understanding the electrons, protons and neutrons. The knowledge gained over the span of 200
years was so vast that the humankind has evolved usage of nuclear energy from being beneficial
to the humankind to becoming weapons of mass destruction. It has left the world leaders
bewildered as to whether these advancements in development of nuclear weapons is for welfare
of the country or it is to serve purposes that are far more dangerous than can be encompassed. But
the enrichment of nuclear weapons each year by countries has definitely spurred the scientific
community and these actions have been under scrutiny by the world leaders. In the present day
world, out of 196 countries that exist on this planet, two countries have arisen to be the biggest
threats all owing to nuclear weapons. North Korea and Iran joined this race of exponential
development of nuclear weapons and have posed threats of all sorts to rest of the world with their
constant development of nuclear weapons. In this race, the North Korea has definitely left Iran
behind. Therefore, threat of nuclear war with North Korea is greater than with Iran. These countries
have used their capability of nuclear weapons development to intimidate their foes

The Role Of Paralysis, Cycles, And Death In Dubliners
In Dubliners, there are several motifs that are in the short stories; paralysis, cycles, and death. In
Eveline, A Little Cloud, and Counterparts, all the characters are having trouble by being in a
cycle of repetitive behavior. All of the characters in these stories have a different view of their
cycles. In Eveline the main character Eveline is repeating her mother s life by living with her
alcoholic father and their abusive relationship. The first time the reader sees a cycle is when
Eveline describes her life with her father: She would not be treated as her mother ... he had begun
to threaten her ... for her dead mother s sake (21). This helps the reader understand the contrast
between life when Eveline s mother was alive and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He does not believe he can reach Gallaher s level of living. Little Chandler thinks, he would
never be popular: he saw that. He could not sway the crowd but he might appeal to a little circle
of kindred minds (40). Here the reader gets some circle diction and how Little Chandler prefers
to have a smaller circle of fans than a whole crowd of fans. In the story Gallaher says, I see you
haven t changed ... You d want to knock about a bit in the world (41). Gallaher moves on with
his life and got out of the Dublin while Little Chandler is still stuck in Dublin being the same
guy and the same daily activities. It has been years since Gallaher has seen Chandler and he has
not changed at all. He has been stuck in the same place for that long. Throughout the story Little
Chandler complains how Gallaher has a good life in London and is actually doing something
with his life while he continues to stay in Dublin. Eventually he thinks about it too much and his
cheeks suffused with shame and he stood back out of the lamplight. He listened while the
paroxysm of the child s sobbing grew less and less; and tears of remorse started to his eyes (46).
This is an example of circles because usually when a baby gets upset about a small detail it cries
and in this case, a grown man cries instead. This example also has the imagery of a child and
when the reader first reads the lines it sounds like Joyce is talking about a child. Little Chandler
begins to act like a child and is not getting what he wants and begins to cry about it. Another
example is when Little Chandler is walking to the bar to meet Gallaher and says, shyness had
always held him back; and so the books had remained on their shelves. At times he repeated lines
to himself and this consoled him (39). This example is an exposition because it shows how he
goes back to

There are four different types of genetic disorders: single gene mutations, chromosome mutations,
multifactorial, and mitochondria. Single gene mutation, also known as Mendelian disorder, is an
abnormality in the DNA of a gene, and is divided into three categories, dominant, recessive, and X
linked. Chromosomal mutation is a result of extra or lack of a certain number of chromosomes, or
an irregular structure of a chromosome. Multifactorial disorder is caused by multiple genes that are
combined with environmental and by the lifestyle of that particular person. Mitochondrial disorders

Pride And Prejudice, By Chinua Achebe, And Jane Austen
All three writers, Julie Otsuka, Chinua Achebe, and Jane Austen apply the aspect of morality to
their novels. They do so through aspects of money or marriage such as in Pride and Prejudice as
well as in No Longer at Ease. The authors are able to persuade the reader into thinking not only
about what the character believes is right or wrong, but also to think about whom moralityand
immorality is defined by. In these three novels, Pride and Prejudice as well as in No Longer at
Ease and When the Emperor was Divine, ethicsis not always defined by the main character but by
the society that the character lives in. The challenges faces while dealing with these ethical ideas is
something each character struggles with and is determined to overcome.
Pride and Prejudice raises important moral issues centered on the idea of marriage and specifically
how important the role of money can influence the moral actions of people. Jane Austen revealing to
us the importance of money in marriage and then leaving it to the readers to decide for
themselves what is moral and what is immoral; specifically, the scene where the main character
Elizabeth s sister mentions that Darcy, whom is in love with Elizabeth, pays for the marriage of
Lydia and Mr. Wickham. This raises the question of whether it is Mr. Darcy s duty to do this or
was it not his place to pay for the wedding? Darcy overlooks Elizabeth s underprivileged financial
status and goes out of his way to guarantee that Wickham marries Lydia

Explain Why Can T Jesus Be A Good Man If He Is Not Divine
1.Why can t Jesus be a good man if He is not divine?
If Jesus is not divine, then He is not considered immortal, He is considered to be human and
worldly. Therefore, since He is considered to be human and worldly, then He can t live a perfect
human life or be considered a good man since He is human and not divine.
2.Why is the statement There are no absolutes self defeating?
This statement is self defeating because if there are no true right or wrongs, or black or whites,
then that is a no absolutes mentality. Therefore, you can t come to any absolute answers because
everything is gray and in between.
3.In your own words, describe Jesus claim to divinity.
Jesus often claimed to divinity by saying that He and God are one, and that if you have seen Him,
then you have seen the Father. He says that He is the way to everlasting life and that whoever
believes in Him will never die. By saying all of these things, Jesus is portraying how since God is
divine and He and God are one, then Jesus is therefore also divine.

Three Reasons For The Allies s Success In The Invasion
D Day was a major event in history and there are lots of reasons why the Allies had success in the
invasion. In this essay I will focus on three reasons I believe to be the most significant to victory.
Those reasons are Air Supremacy, Unique and adapted tanks and Operation Fortitude South. D Day
tanks were specialised to fit the environment of Normandy while still being effective in combat. Air
Supremacy was crucial to distract the Germans with the gliders, paratroopers, bombers, and fake
dummies. Operation Fortitude South was a massive and successful deception plan to confuse the
German into thinking the invasion would come at the narrowest part of the channel.
Air Supremacy was crucial for supporting the invasion and confusing the germans. It was something
the Allies needed to have a successful invasion. Before dawn on the 6th of June 1944, paratroopers

It was a deception plan that was part of a bigger Operation called Operation Bodyguard, containing
many different deception plans. Fortitude South was commanded by General Bernard Montgomery
and the 21st Army group. Being commanded by such an important general, the Nazis fell for the
rouse and fortified the area around Calais. Within Fortitude there were makeshift planes, inflatable
tanks and artillery as well as fake equipment. The Germans took the bait mostly because Fortitude
was located around the narrowest part of the channel where it would be the easiest place of all to
invade from. The Nazis actually thought at first that the preparation for the actual invasion was
rouse. This plan played an important role in the invasion because it allowed the Allied Powers to
catch the Germans by surprise and to completely disorientate them thinking that the actual invasion
was just a raid but they realised too

  • 2. Natural Light In Gothic Architecture Since ancient times and throughout the history of architecture, to present days, natural light played a key role in building design. In a physical sense, its interaction with the surrounding environment affects and transforms the perception of space. It can also instigate and incite different emotional reactions in humans. Lightis also used and has been used in sacred architectureas a symbolic value. Its manipulation can evoke feelings of spirituality. This essential natural resource in some cultures and religions represents the manifestation of the divine. In this essay, I will use three influential architectural style periods to compare the use of natural light in both a physical and symbolic sense: the ancient Egypt period, the Gothic period in France, and the 20th Century architecture. Ancient cultures, such as the Egyptians, designed temples taking into consideration the effects of natural light. They intentionally directed the behavior of light to illuminate and emphasize space, as well as to focus attention on rituals and elements such as sacred ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These handcrafted windows played an important role as they served as a sort of wall along the nave and side aisles that let the beams of light to enter the cathedrals in a more dramatic way when shining through the glass art, creating at the same time what some call, a divine light. Because a cathedral nave flooded with light would have a dramatic effect on the faithful, vast window space became a necessary characteristic of the Gothic style and responded to one of the goals of a growing and dominant religion in the medieval era (Schlager, Lauer, Gale group, link.galegroup.com) . • 3. Analysis Of Blind Light Garnet Tyler 301344139 CA 130 Fundamentals of Film Viewing Review Blind Light The film Blind Light by Sarah Pucill is an experimental 16mm film that was presented as a part of the Cinematheque s Studio DIM Cinema . This twenty two minute film, made in 2007, consists of a series of long, slow shots of the sky from the interior of a studio loft. In these shots, the filmmaker gradually adjusts the exposure and zoom, affecting the brightness levels and perspective. Pucill also controls the shot by closing and opening the blinds on the windows being looked out of. Additionally, the audio on the film is largely absent with only a few short comments and outside noise sporadically throughout. This film creates a lonely and isolated atmosphere with it s use of durational shots, absence of action and bare setting. Narration is also used to further this effect. For example, after the long period of silence at the beginning of the film, the artist says in a calm voice I can t look, so I ll shut it out . The nature of this phrase expresses a sense of defeat, which can be interpreted literally, in terms of the brightness of the light coming from outside as well as metaphorically, referring to a painful experience or difficult situation that might be easier to disregard than address. Following this statement, the second line is I want to see the sun, to be blinded , which contradicts the former, though follows a similar theme, evident of a troubled mindset. The emphasis ... • 5. Going After Cacciato by Tim O Brien Essay Going After Cacciato #65279;It is generally recognized that Tim O Brien s Going After Cacciato (1978) is most likely the best novel of the Vietnam war, albeit an unusual one in that it innovatively combines the experiential realism of war with surrealism, primarily through the overactive imagination of the protagonist, Spec Four Paul Berlin. The first chapter of this novel is of more than usual importance. Designed to be a self sufficient story (McCaffery 137) and often anthologized as one, this chapter is crucial to the novel in that it not only introduces us to the characters and the situation but also sets the tenor of the novel and reveals its author s view of this war in relation to which all else in the novel must be... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One thing that the book misses, however, is the same suffering, perhaps even worse, that was imposed upon the Vietnamese people. This is typical of novels from this time; they all exhibit a bold ethnocentricism (Lomperis 5). However, the first chapter does contain one very powerful image of destruction from the Vietnamese viewpoint, which helps to make this somber portrait of the VietnamWar more complete. We are told that Berlin and his squad are taking refuge inside a nearly ruined Buddhist pagoda: ...in shadows was the cross legged Buddha, smiling from its elevated stone perch. The pagoda was cold. Dank from a month of rain, the place smelled of clays and silicates and dope and old incense. It was a single square room built like a pillbox with stone walls and a flat ceiling that forced the men to stoop or kneel. Once it might have been a fine house of worship, but now it was junk. Sandbags blocked the windows. Bits of broken pottery lay under chipped pedestals. The buddha s right arm was missing, but the smile was intact. Head cocked, the statue seemed interested in the lieutenant s long sigh. (O Brien 4) In this otherwise very American novel, which focuses on the American soldiers experiences, feelings, and minds (Lomperis 63), and in which Vietnam is presented primarily as merely a terrain and a climate, this image of the pagoda seems to be symbolic of the country of Vietnam at this time. Invaded, desecrated, nearly destroyed, it still endured, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Which Jurisdiction Should Govern The Agreement Between The... The issues are what jurisdiction shall be used to govern the deal between the parties, issues with the formation of the agreement, warranties, warranty damages, consequential damages, search costs, lost profits, recession. The first issue is determining which jurisdiction should govern the agreement between the parties Article 2 of the Uniform Commercial Code, the Common law, or the CISG? When the subject matter of a transaction is for the sale of goods, Article 2 of the UCC is used to analyze the deal between the parties. Article 2 of the UCC governs the formation, performance, and damages. When the subject matter of the transaction is not for the sale of goods or is to provide a service, the common law is used to analyze the deal between the parties. The Common law governs formation, performance, and damages. When the transaction is for non consumer goods and between parties from different nations, the Contracts for the International Sale of Goods is used to govern the transaction. The CISG governs formation, performance, and damages. In this case, the party s agreement would be considered a hybrid contact as the agreement includes a goods component, as well as a service component. Since the agreement between the parties is a hybrid contract we can use the Predominate Purpose Test or the Gravamen Test to determine whether the UCC or the Common law should govern. Using the Predominate Purpose Test we can look at what the predominate purpose of the contract was for the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Elizabeth Miller Literary Studies May 8, 2017 Literary Research Paper Tennyson Owen War Poems Their Ideas The poems, The Charge of The Light Brigade and Dulce et Decorum Est, both deal with an idea of war. The writers both have the same viewpoint about war, but the way that they articulate those ideas on paper varies. Through literary devices in the poems, the authors show two different wars, but the same tragic outcome death. These two poems showcase how people can have different outlooks on war, but in the end they all end with the same deadly outcome. These writers, Wilfred Owen and Alfred Lord Tennyson, uses tone, metaphor or repetition, and rhyming and diction to present a more concrete version on their perception of war. The... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The tone that Alfred Lord Tennyson created for this poem has an honorable and celebratory feel to it for those whom were lost. The overall tone of the poem capitalizes on the his idea of war and how we should be acting towards those who have given up themselves to hopefully makes their country better. Wilfred Owen s Dulce et Decorum Est also created a specific tone in his poem as well. His poem takes on a completely different tone though. In his version of a war piece, Owen is showing us how war is bad and how much he feels that it is wrong, and how we won t like the conclusion that results from them. This war poem, about the First World War, has a more negative look on the actions of war. An example of this tone can be seen in the first stanza. According to the Bloom s Literary Reference Online, The first stanza presents a scene saturated with misery. (Dulce et Decorum Est) Throughout the entire piece Owen gives us the tone of misery, awful challenges, and death all negative feelings. We can see in the last couple of lines of the poem how Owen really felt about war, The old Lie, Dulce et Decorum est / Pro patria mori. On the other hand, these shifts can be insightful, empowering, and inspiring. The outcome of the pivotal moments in life cannot be controlled because humanity does not have the power to control the circumstances around them. The 2011 tornado, the decision to become a Christian, and the moment I chose to join the Dream Team are pivotal points in my life where I altered the public space around me. The Australian High Court appreciated them to share a common as well as biological ancestry as Australia s original occupants (de Plevitz, Croft, 2003). There has however been a lot of ignorance with reference to this group of people more so from the Australians. This has mostly been due to ignorance of these people with most arguments and opinions based on myths (Morphy, Morphy, 1984, p.459 478). Australia has enjoyed over a century since it gained its Federation status from its colonizers, having joined the Commonwealth in 1901 (Le Roy, Saunders, 2005, pp. 7 9.). Their final proposal was directed towards the insurance of enactment of legislation that would enshrine processes that would forge forth means of uniting the entire state of Australia by way of agreement or treaty. These treaty or agreement would further ensure the resolving of any issues that detracted reconciliation. All these are clear indications that the Australians failed to relate and know the aboriginal people. Had this been so, there then would have raised no demand for a treaty at the end of reconciliation. The demand has thus made the establishment as well as the operations of the Council for Aboriginal Reconciliation more or less an irony. This is due to the fact that the same had been in place as a political response to the failed attempts to come up with a proposal treaty. These attempts and enactment of the council had been predeceased by the Bicentenary of European settlement /invasion that was held in 1988. • 12. Similarities Between Reservation Blues And Huckleberry Finn Twain wrote his novel after the Civil War in 1865 during the Reconstruction Era. His novel is about a young boy named Huckleberry Finn who flees from home and drifts along the Mississippi River; it takes place in the 1840s. On the other hand, Alexie s novel is a story of a cluster of Native Americans who create a band; they call themselves Coyote Springs. Alexie s literary work introduces many events that occurred in the nineteenth century near the Mississippi River, much like Twain s novel. Because the novels introduce or take place in American features, the novels are known as American literature. The novels inaugurate certain themes that relate to American aspects as well. Both Twain s nineteenth century classic American novel The Adventures of Huckleberry Finnand Sherman Alexie s 1995 novel Reservation Blues are distinctly American because of the way they are driven by theme. Twain s novel is clearly American literature because of the protagonists traditions and regulations. Huck lives among a community with cruel and absurd tasks. Huck s guardians teach him Christian merit and manners. Huck narrates, The Widow Douglas she took me for her son, and allowed she would sivilize me (1). • 13. The Beauty of Nature Essay examples The Beauty of Nature The sunset was not spectacular that day. The vivid ruby and tangerine streaks that so often caressed the blue brow of the sky were sleeping, hidden behind the heavy mists. There are some days when the sunlight seems to dance, to weave and frolic with tongues of fire between the blades of grass. Not on that day. That evening, the yellow light was sickly. It diffused softly through the gray curtains with a shrouded light that just failed to illuminate. High up in the treetops, the leaves swayed, but on the ground, the grass was silent, limp and unmoving. The sun set and the earth waited. And the winds came. The wild west wind came down through the fields, rousing the deer from their reverie, and swaying the bee studded flowers. From its highest bough to the loose sand on its mighty roots, the ancient tree quivered lightly, yet was untroubled by the breeze. Many a storm had passed over the tree, yet no rain had managed to drown those fathomless roots, no hail had managed to bite the iron bark. As the stars hang, unchanging in the nighttime sky, and as the sun moves in ceaseless circles around the earth, so the tree had endured. And even as the wind rustled in its outermost boughs, the tree looked out to the sun, as if for reassurance about its own unchanging eternity. On the horizon, no yellow eye looked back. The sun was gone. In a tumult of wind and rain, a hail of twigs and leaves thundered through the trees and tore the arching grasses out by the roots. The deer bolted and hid, quivering, in the darkest thickets. The sky boiled, and the younger saplings were bent almost to the ground. Even as the shadows bounded up the stalks and blades of weeping grass, and the soft plink of falling rain quickened to a constant hiss and sputter, the sun found its equal. Brooke s The Soldier depicts an idealistic, patriotic view towards fighting for his country, whereas Owen s Dulce et Decorum est demonstrates a realistic view of the senseless horrors of war. Both poets utilise similar poetic techniques of imagery and sound devices to express their contradictory views of the atrocious events of the greatest war that the world had ever seen at that time. The paradisiacal images created by Brooke are a stark contrast to the gruesome images featured in Owen s poem. Dulce et Decorum est is rich in similes that graphically illustrate the goriest details of war. The soldiers in the poem are described as old beggars who are coughing like hags , which illustrates a loss of dignity, health and the innocence associated with youth. As the poem progresses, a soldier is the victim of a gas attack and is described vividly, with white eyes, writhing in his face as blood comes gargling from his froth corrupted lungs, obscene as cancer . Owen s dark subject matter is further explored through his juxtaposition of children ardent for desperate glory and soldiers marching like beggars under sacks . • 18. Overload In Hockey Training Before assigning a program regime it is important to analyze both the needs of the individual and the biomechanics of their required movements. When looking at athletes specifically, a coach should analyze not only the biomechanical and physiological requirements of the athletes but also how to improve transfer of training. Goals of hockey players often include improving power and speed of skating stride or increasing accuracy of the wrist shot. The training plan the athlete should be given to achieve these goals should involve exercises that mimic contraction types, rate of force production and biomechanics of these movements. Experience of the athlete and the combination of general and specific training are crucial factors that determine how training will transfer to performance. Although weight training will increase the amount of force an athlete can provide, this does not necessarily guarantee an increased performance within their sport. It is the most often used standard of how smart a person is. This paper shall look at what intelligence tests measure, how the IQ tests measure intelligence and interrogate their history. It shall then apply the tests to school policy and hence evaluate their validity. There are a slew of tests that attempt to measure how intelligent human beings are. They all measure different aspects and those factors will be covered here. One of the misconceptions is that the tests measure inborn intelligence. Few of the activities are designed for that purpose. They actually measure a person s interaction with the environment and what they have learned from that interaction. The most common tested aspect is critical thinking. Instead of straightforward questions, intelligence tests offer questions with a twist. It is assumed that the most intelligent people will see obvious flaws in the obvious answers (Steinberg Williams, 2015). Some intelligence tests also measure reflexes, both mental and physical. The assumption is quick reaction times reflect an active brain and in the line of thinking, a more intelligent person. Reminiscent of how The Iliadand the Aeneidare both epic poems that share similarities such as the setting, the reoccurring motif of gods, as well as aspects like the two heroes and the goals to be reached by the plot. When comparing the similarities between the two epics, The Iliad and the Aeneid, one of the most obvious is the setting of which they each take place. They are a part of the same era, one where the world was chaotic and still needed the frivolous gods to meddle. The Trojan Warwith its destructive power was a significant setting in both poems and led to the development of each respective plot. In the face of the dreads of the warfare in both epics, even the most powerful of warriors will experience fear, and the poets tell the audience details that both armies regret that the war ever began. The Iliad took place during the actual war. It is very much centralized around the occurrences of the war. The product created will be a colloidal solution, bound to the exterior of the crystal lattice and it remains soluble in the octadecene (Boatman Nordell). Along with this the product will most likely vary in color as well due to the changes in wavelength, energy and transitions, that all correspond to a smaller crystal. The variations in particle size will prove to be an important feature in the experiment, so the goal is to use diverse size particles. The crystals are created in a solution in which they cannot be filtered out since they do not settle. A quote that I thought would be good to share you all is quoted from a person named Vinci Lombardi. In his own words, Leaders aren t born, they are made. And they are made just like anything else, through hard work. From this quote, you figure out that leaders weren t born as leaders; they worked hard to get to the level where they are now. If a leader is motivating and pushing his or her followers to accomplish the assigned mission, this part of the leader is good, however, if the leader doesn t even attempt to join in and help the team, that implies bad leadership. It implies bad leadership because, motivating someone isn t hard to do. A leader goes above and beyond what is expected of him or her. Therefore, if a leader doesn t want to help, this is a trait that a leader SHOULD NOT possess. A leader should be willing to help his or her followers because it shows respect to the team because once in their life, the leader was a follower as well. Is following a choice, or an unconscious want? It is actually both, however it differs from situation to situation. For example, in the story Herd Mentality? The Freakonomics of Boarding a Bus, the narrator said that most people gravitate to point A (Point A is the bus stop closest to the narrator s apartment). There is also an alternative point that people could go to, point B (Point B is the bus that is a block west from the first bus, point A). Speech On Surrogate Mother Surrogacy SURROGATE MOTHERHOOD CHANGING PARADIGM IN INDIAN SOCIAL SCENARIO In all cultures of the world, motherhood is something which is considered to lie at the heart of the meaning of love. The concept of a woman s love for her children is viewed as the most powerful, ferocious, tender and unconditional love that exists. Motherhood for Indian women is a psychospiritual phenomena and not just a psychosexual one. This psychospiritual meaning of all the institutions of socialization, particularly marriage of which a child is the outcome, makes the Indian context different from other societies. The main research question driven by our survey was to know the factors that shape political attitudes of voters. One of the main political attitude that we are looking at in this research is party affiliation. In order to figure this out, out survey has been grounded around three mains theories. The three main theories that we tested in our survey was about the tendency of certain demographic group to support particular parties, the influence of childhood environment on party identification and the myth of independents voters. The first theory discussed had been discussed in the Chapter 7 Party Coalition and Party Change shows how races, age, educational background and demographic location have influence party coalitions. Summary Of Anselm s Ontological Argument Arguments for God are quite extensive, having taken many different forms throughout history and Anselm s Ontological argument stands as one of the most famous. Anselm s argument begins with the concept of God and, by using only a priori principles, attempts to establish the existence of God. His specific Argument goes as follows: That than which nothing greater can be conceived (God) exists in understanding, things are greater in reality than in understanding, therefore that than which nothing greater can be conceived must exist in reality. When we talk about a chair it doesn t necessarily mean that this supposed chair either exists or doesn t we add that after. Rowe summarizes Kant s argument as follows, ... If existence were a predicate, the affirmative existential statement tigers exist would be a redundancy and the negative existential statement dragons do not exist would be contradictory (pg. 40). Ideas and concepts are essentially the same, whether they are tangible things within reality or thoughts of the mind. There are no added qualities that an idea gains through existing in reality. Effects Of The Great Plains Region Introduction During the 1930 s, a period of severe dust storms caused great damage to the ecology and agriculture of the Great Plains region in the United States. This period, known as the Dust Bowl, was caused by severe drought conditions and poor farming practices put into place without proper understanding of Great Plains ecology. The erosion of topsoil during this time produced extreme dust storms that could reduce visibility down to one metre and had some dust storms even reaching the east coast. Today, the threat of human induced global warming has caused some scientists to speculate that the Great Plains region is set to experience semipermanent drought conditions similar to what was experienced during the Dust Bowl. However, other scientists have claimed that conditions will be much tamer by comparison.. This inconsistency of results is discussed by Hoerling et al in their paper Is a Transition to Semipermanent Drought Conditions Imminent in the U.S. Great Plains?
