Professional Learning Goal
My professional learning goals for the next five years will focus on integrating technology and
differentiation in the classroom. The two goals were selected based on personal reflection and
suggestions from supervisors and colleagues. After reviewing the videos recorded early this year, I
noticed that student learning and engagement could be heightened if I incorporated more technology
and implemented differentiated teaching/learning strategies. My overall goal is to enhance learning
and increase student engagement by effectively implementing the strategies mentioned above.
Research shows that the use of technology broadens students abilities and talents and is fundamental
to college and career readiness in the 21st century; therefore, it is important that I become more
familiar and comfortable with implementing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Specifically, I need to work on varying instruction to meet the individual needs of all my students. At
this moment, I differentiate by allowing my students to submitted different products to demonstrate
acquired knowledge. However, I would like to also differentiate content and process based on students
readiness and different learning styles. My goal this year is to implement on form of differentiation
per lesson. For example, one day I will differentiate the content by using learning stations/centers. On
the next day, I will implement differentiation my implementing different ways in which I deliver
content: visual, hands on activity (tactile), auditory. The following day, the students will select the
type of product they would like to submit to demonstrate acquired knowledge. I will focus on
implementing one form of differentiation per lesson until I become comfortable with implementing
multiple methods in one lesson. To become more knowledgeable and comfortable implementing
differentiation strategies, for the next five years, I will commit to and execute the

Understanding Technology in Neuromancer
Understanding Technology in Neuromancer Neuromancer, written by William Gibson in 1984, is a
novel well ahead of its time. The book predicted many concepts about the internet and cyberspace that
exist today. Neuromancer, of the prophetic genre, is a novel that accurately describes and predicts
what will happen in the future. Characteristics of the prophetic novel include: dystopian societies,
technologies, and progressive thinking. Neuromancer is considered a prophetic novel because it
contains many aspects distinct to its genre, such as unique characters, futuristic settings, introspective
themes, complex plots, dark atmospheres, and resistant tones. Although the prophetic genre may not
appeal to everyone, it certainly is a genre with fresh ideas and innovative thinking. Characters The
characters of Neuromancer are very unusual and diverse. Henry Dorsett Case is the computer hacking,
drug abusing protagonist of the novel. He is always in danger of something, whether it is the police
arresting him for hacking into a major corporation s database, or battling his own drug addiction. His
problems really begin when he betrays his employers and steals important data from their computers.
They then punish him by crippling his nervous system and taking his hacking talent from his brain so
he can t go into cyberspace. He then turns to methamphetamine, crack and alcohol to deal with his
frustration. Later, a mysterious man named Armitage has Case s nervous system repaired. He then

Carpe Diem
Both, To the Virgins, To Make Much of Time by Robert Herrick and A Psalm of Life , by Henry
Wadsworth Longfellow, conveys, through a persona, a matured perspective of Carpe Diem. Both poets
communicate their individual opinion, Longfellow s 19th century poem discusses the importance of
creating a legacy and leaving an impact on time, whereas Herrick s 17th century cavalier style poem
implies the significance of retaining the prime years of your life, and portrays the brevity of the life
cycle. These main aspects of Carpe Diem are expressed through various visual and auditory features to
manifest an idea to readers about how to seize the day.
In To the virgins, To Make Much of Time , Herrick uses a variety of visual techniques ... Show more

Herrick discusses the inevitability of death but the tone maintains the positive and cheerful nature. The
tone promotes optimism to us readers and reflects how Herrick views life. Herrick uses alliteration
throughout the poem, such as in stanza 1 with same and smiles , or stanza 2 with higher and he s .
These examples of alliteration create focus on the importance of the ideas the poet presents on Carpe
Diem. The auditory features cooperate to communicate Herrick s main ideas on the notion of how to
seize the day.
In A Psalm of Life , Longfellow develops ideas on Carpe Diem through visual representations. The
poet, using a powerful extended metaphor in stanza 5, expresses life as a battle using striking visual
imagery with the phrase, In the world s broad field of battle . A military battle negatively connotes
hardship and unpredictability , reflecting the nature of suffering in life. The metaphor continues
throughout the stanza conveying to readers not to be dumb, driven cattle whereas to be a hero in the
strife! . This compelling idea supports the theme of creating a legacy and promotes being courageous.
Longfellow reinforces his agnostic ideas, which are disagreed with by Herrick, about religion several
times in the poem, suggesting religion holds people back from seizing the day. In stanza 6, the

Origins Of The Byzantine Empire
Culminating Activity Board Information Origins of the Byzantine Empire (330 1453 CE)
The Byzantine Empire is another word for the eastern half of the Roman Empire. It was born after a
series of events that led to the fall of the western half of the Roman Empire. In 285 A.D., Diocletian
decided to split the Roman Empire in half because the rapidly growing population was becoming too
large to govern for a single person. This decision is considered to be one of the main acts that led to
the downfall of the Western Roman world. The Byzantine Empire began to take shape after
Constantine I took control of the Western Roman Empire after winning the Battle of the Milvian
Bridge in October of year 312 A.D. Around 324 A.D., the Constantine I, defeated his co emperor,
Licinius, in a battle. Constantine became the first Christian emperor the Roman Empire ever had. In
330 A.D., Constantine I relocated the capital of Rome and chose to establish it in the city on the east,
known as Byzantium. The new Roman capital became known as Constantinople. The Western Roman
Empire began to slowly disintegrate as Germanic tribes, like the Vandals began invading the Western
Roman Empire. In 476, the barbarian Odoacer invaded Rome and overthrew the last emperor,
Romulus Augustus, and Rome fall. The fall of the Western Roman Empire in 476 separated the
prosperous eastern half of the Roman Empire and spawned a new Rome with a rich culture and the
most powerful economy in all of Europe. The capital

Life Of Pi By Ang Lee
Life of Pi Film Analysis Everyone grows up. Some sooner than others. It may be subtle, and it could
be traumatizing. In The Life of Pi produced by Ang Lee, Pi got the latter. The major running theme
throughout the movie is that the loss of innocence is something everyone goes through. Ang Lee
shows this in the use of lighting, angles, and sound effects in multiple scenes. When Pi has to change
his name because the kids at school were making fun of him, when he is forced to watch the tiger eat
the baby goat alive, his first love and his first heartbreak, when his family has to move away from his
home, losing his entire family in a shipwreck, caring for himself and a tiger while at sea, and finally,
in realizing what actually happened those first few days after the shipwreck are all examples of this
theme. Piscine Molitor Patel, or Pi, was named after the cleanest, most pure swimming pool in all of
France. This brings in the cinematic effect of the water and what it resembles throughout the movie.
When good things happen, the water will be clear and pure. When bad things happen (or will happen),
the water is cloudy or reflective. At the young age of 11, kids from Pi s school start making fun of
him, calling him Pissing , soiling the pure and innocent meaning behind his name and what it stands
for. With one word my name went from an elegant French swimming pool to a stinking Indian latrine,
I was pissing everywhere. Pi, being the kind and innocent child that he

The Demise of a Family in Gail Godwin s A Sorrowful Woman
Gail Godwin s A Sorrowful Woman lt leads one to believe that the wife is overwhelmed or possibly
just having a bad day. The belief is that with her husband s understanding she and her family will get
through this difficult time. Everyone has a bad day and people get aggravated at times. However, a
shocking revelation comes to the reader that this isn t just a bad day. A deeper look into the story
reveals that the wife s selfishness and pity for her life is fueling her sorrow and along with their lack
of communication causes the demise of this family. In reading this story we find a woman tired of
being a mother, a wife and of her life in general. The sight of them ... Show more content on

It sounds patronizing of her telling him how to put their child to bed. His understanding of such things
does not detour him from dozing after her good super (35) while she puts the dishes away. His
understanding of such things doesn t seem to enlighten him that maybe his wife is in need of more
help than just his being big enough to contain what ever she must do (38). Him allowing her to stop
seeing their son is just enabling her to isolate herself one step further. He should sit her down and
explain, she can either talk to him about what is wrong or she can talk to a doctor. His passiveness
about the issue allows her to make the decisions when it is clear that she is not capable of making any
decisions. In shutting herself off from others, especially a small child, she is being selfish. She is not
considering what feelings the child might have: rejection, feelings of guilt, self esteem. What have I
done for mommy not to want to see me? What is wrong with me? The isolation and turning away her
child and her husband states that her feelings come before theirs. The mother is usually the one
teaching the children of compassion and respect for other s feelings. How does the child learn these
things if his own mother puts her feelings above his needs for nurturing and love? However, at the end
we believe the husband s understanding has paid off and she is coming back to them. She s done all of
these wonderful things for the man and the child

Analysis Of The Poem Lady Lazarus
In the poem Lady Lazarus, there are many images that invoke the story of Jesus raising Lazarus from
the dead. The encounters that Lady Lazarus had with death both accidental and intentional resonates a
dark and grim tone throughout the poem. Looking at the lines four and five, she makes a reference to
the lampshades that were made out of the skin of slaughtered Jews by the Nazis. With this reference
she wants readers to make that connection between her and the Holocaust victims. As we go down to
lines ten through fifteen, she tells the readers to peel off the napkin referring to the white sheet used to
cover corpses to view her face. She also describes herself having eye pits instead of eyes and stinking
sour breath . With those references, I interpret that as although technically she is alive, her body is
almost dead. We get more of the gruesomeness of the speaker coming back to life in lines sixteen
through eighteen Lady Lazarus states that the grave cave , which is symbolism of death, ate the flesh
that was on her within her home. In line twenty one, she briefly compares herself to having the nine
lives of a cat through a simile but in a much grimmer version by saying she has nine times to die.
When Lady Lazarus refers to annihilating a trash in lines twenty three to twenty four, my
interpretation of that statement is that she is speaking about death. Once a decade she comes close to
dying. In effect, she is calling her life, otherwise referred to her body as a

Crime in America
Introduction
The highest percentage of people in the American prisons is made up of drug related and non violent
crimes. Young people who occasionally abuse drugs engage in crimes that not only threaten the
security of the nation but the lives of the victims. There are many propositions to reducing crimes and
various legislations have been set to help reduce the crime rate in America. There is however a need to
evaluate the best method for crime control and prevention to effectively deals with this menace.
Programs assisting law enforcers and rehabilitations programs for the criminals can be an effective
measure of preventing crime.
Assist Law Enforcers
Most of the criminals repeatedly engage in violent acts since they are assured that the law enforcers
would not arrest them. The perpetrators possess crude weapons and guns that they use to attack the
policemen. In this case, the law enforcers are intimidated by the large number of gangs because they
continuously threaten them (Silver Livingston, 2017). It is thus important to ensure that the federal
government has passed laws that seek to safeguard the security of the law enforcers so that they can
proactively combat crimes (Neese, 2017) .Once a criminal understands that attacking a police or ...

state deal with that. Protecting and assisting the law enforcers guarantees them of their safety and
availability of resources even as they anticipate protecting the citizens and country at large. Crime
control is indeed a collective effort and the state should not only focus on imprisoning the criminals
but also attend to their mental and emotional needs to prevent future

Temperate Deciduous Forests Research Paper
Temperate Deciduous Forests are located in the north eastern[21] half of America, [22] middle of
Europe, many places in Asia, and southwest Russia. They have a decent [23] amount or precipitation
at about 30 to 60 inches of rainfall a year. [24] Making it the second rainiest biome in the world. They
[25] also have a mild climate with ranges of 40 to 70 degrees. Ohio is part if the north eastern [26]
half of America so this is the biome we live in as well. It is also home to many different plant and
animal species because it is all over the world.
The Snowy Owl is one of many bird spices [27] in the temperate deciduous forest. It s about 6lbs, 26in
long, and has a wing span of 4.7 to 5.4in long[28] . They feed on mostly smaller animals and birds.
They also get their name from the color of their feathers. Their feathers are also one of their
adaptations. With the white and somewhat grey color of their feathers [29] blending in with the snow
of America s winters and the snowy areas of Russia is very easy for them. Another adaptation is that
unlike some birds these owls will occasionally nest in the ground. They will dig in the side of a hill or
ridge and use frozen moss and the snow to keep it hidden from any predators.[210] ... Show more

They are about the size of a medium dog and are very energetic. They [211] are very good swimmers
and are known to be good at adapting to knew[212] human environments like farms or settlements.
One of the adaptations they have is that they are nocturnal. This means they are more active at night.
They do hunt and play during the day but do most of it when it has become dark, with this they have
also developed good night vision. Another helpful adaptation they have is that they can hear a very
large range of frequencies. This helps them hear if there is rodents or other prey underground or above
ground.

Is Facebook Making Us Lonely Summary
In the article Is Facebook Making Us Lonely , Stephen Marche discusses the effects and utility of
network in people s life. Marche establishes how Facebook is making us more isolated and replacing
deep connections from society. He also established that isolation is an option in which we are blinded
pushed towards by social networking. According to Marche, Facebook is a tool that people have to
learn how to used because this tool becomes what people make of it. Facebook has been a media to
help people meet others that are far apart but it has also turn out to be a way to lock people into
solitude. According to Marche We meet fewer people. We gather less. And when we gather, our bonds
are less meaningful and less easy . Meaning that we are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Despite that, there are many people that decided to detach from social network and work to create a
better outside world life, but we still have connections and distractions from the social media;
transfixed by the glare of a screen, hungering for response (Marche, par 5). People are constantly
waiting for a response and not only by the internet but by the world itself, and for that reason, we
expect that Facebook could be an answer of all the things we need answer for because Facebook is
made off the outside world. The only problem is that we do not know when will that happen, or if it
would happen eventually, but we are wasting time waiting for something that is not accurate to happen
and that does not benefit us or help us find an answer to the things that we are looking for. Marche
allude that It s a lonely business, wandering the labyrinths of our friend s and pseudo friends projected
identities, trying to figure out what part of ourselves we ought to project, who will listen, and what
they will hear (Marche, par 22). That is the moment when loneliness comes, in the time that we wait
for a response and we do not find one, either because no one pays attention to us or either there is not
an answer that could be found in the social network. There is a disappointment when what you are
looking for cannot be found because you do not receive help from others and because of that, you
blame Facebook within the people on it. As you blame others, you end up believing that the same way
social media works, outside world does as well. We end up with less friends to trust and ask for help
which leads to isolation and

Teams take on all shapes and sizes. It seems as if you don t have to look very far to see both the
importance and impact that teams have on almost every aspect of life as we know it. Those who learn
how to properly harness the power of teamwork understand how it can create an incredible
opportunity and potential for progress and accomplishment. Teams that find the ability to work
together with a sense of unity and common vision seem to produce at high levels of effectiveness.
Teamwork also, however, can create environments where conflict and challenge can easily arise and
hinder the ability to work together with effectiveness. Patrick Lencioni states, As difficult as it is to
build a cohesive team, it is not complicated. As simple as it may be, for many leaders the ability to
build, develop and properly utilize teams is a challenge. For church ministry leaders, the ability to
build and develop teams and manage conflict are vital skill sets that must be invested in to understand
and develop. In the pages ahead I plan to explore from a biblical perspective of why the building and
development of teams is so important, and some of the challenges that

Why Is Google Analytics Important
Google Analytics is a powerful tool to track website traffic. As a website owner, you should
implement it as soon as possible. If you re struggling with that, then this tutorial will show you how to
add Google Analytics to WordPress step by step.
But why is Google Analytics so important?
Because Google Analytics helps you to find out what your traffic is doing on your website. You can
track the source where your readers are coming from, for example through social media or if search
engines sent it.
Besides the source, you get valuable information about the age group, their interests, locations and
what search terms they use to find your website. You also can track keywords and how they rank in
search terms.

Buchholz s Article Analysis
Throughout Buchholz s article, he explained an experiment that he conducted using the scientific
method. Buchholz s article is organized in the order that the scientific method occurs to ensure that his
results are valid results. Before beginning the experiment, he asked a question; Should infected
females be more or less choosy? (Buchholz). After proposing the question, Buchholz proposed two
alternative hypothesis to his question before beginning his article. In the introduction, Buchholz
introduced his experiment by describing the type of parasite that was going to be used to infect his
sample group of turkeys. He explained what the parasite was known to do to the body and how the
parasite was transmitted and reproduced. After introducing the parasite that was going to be used,

four dependent variables that indicated variation in female sampling behavior (Buchholz). The four
dependent variables included: proportion of trial time spent sampling males, the number of males

(Buchholz). After the data had been collected from the apparatus and the statistical analysis, Buchholz
discussed his results of the experiment. The results of the experiment concluded that whether a female
was infected or not did not affect the likelihood of mating nor was the time that it took to look for a
mate different between infected and non infected turkeys (Buchholz). The experiment also concluded
that the rate of activity in the female treatment groups did not differ (Buchholz). In conclusion,
Buchholz found that body condition did not have a significant direct effect on mate sampling

Marketing Plan For Grocery Markets
Introduction
There is an ongoing competition for grocery markets offering natural products for lower prices. Top
competing grocery markets have followed trends to lower prices, but this may become a problem in
the future. Customers may be concerned with the high costs of products; consequently they perceive
these same products with lower values. According to BusinessDictionary.com, perceived value Is
defined as a customer s opinion of a product s value to him or her (WWWebTek). Customers evenly
match price with value. If the products cost is low the quality in the product will be perceived as a
lower quality. Perceived value may be seen as three of the following levels: not enough value with low

The problem remains that we struggle to maintain a competitive advantage, when stores like Sprouts,
Costco, and Trader Joes continually lowering their prices meanwhile our prices remain the same. I
propose a real and practical suggestion that will fix our continuous struggle against our intrusive
competitors, by improving our price perception.
Overview
Improving our price perception can fix our current conflict with our aggressive competitors in the
market to sale natural foods. For a while our company has been referred to as The Whole Pay Check ,
because of our high prices for natural products (Npr.org). Unfortunately, we have been perceived this
way because of our prices and that is something we aim to change. We must focus on improving our
price perception instead of reducing our prices. As a company, We recognize we need to move faster
and go deeper to rebuild traffic and sales and create a solid foundation for our long term profitable
growth, said Mackey, who was recently named one of the world s best performing CEOs by the
Harvard Business Review ( Austin Business Journal). Our goals for the future demands a new change
that we should definitely accept this proposal to improve our price perception rather than lowering our
prices , which results in less growth and no competitive advantage.
Analysis
Our competitors also offer natural products, And if everyone is offering organic food, and most are

center of the square room. People gathered in small groups chatting waiting for dessert to come out. I
am always stuck in the middle. I am too young to converse with the adults but I am too old to run
around with the kids. So I sat there taking everything in. Eventually I became fed up with my
isolation. I picked myself up and made my way over to where my mom was seated. Even though I

Technology In The Veldt By Ray Bradbury
Throughout the years technology has changed drastically, it started out small and then increased little
by little. Many cultures around the globe are influenced by technology. In every aspect of technology,
the world is influenced in superior and inferior ways which includes self driving and the house
featured in Ray Bradbury s short story ¨The Veldt¨.
Ray Bradbury s ¨The Veldt¨ is about a family of four a mother, father, and their 2 kids. The mom and
dad decide to buy a house called the Happylife Home which comes with a nursery for the children.
This is not just an ordinary house, the Happylife Home is equipped with a feature that does everything
that is required by the family. Which includes cleaning, cooking, caring for their children Peter and
Wendy, dressing, and bathing the family. Throughout the lives of the children, they use the nursery to
escape reality. The children develop a sense of imagination within the nursery which helps them take
their mind off of things. Whenever the family is busy, this feature serves a great deal of convenience
for the family. Everyday tasks are less stressful and chaotic for the family because the Happylife

Politics and power are significant in all societies, rich...
Politics and power are significant in all societies, rich or poor. In Prosperity and Violence, the Political
Economy of Development, Harvard academic Robert H. Bates gives insight on the relationship
between political order and economic growth. By analyzing the revolution of agrarian societies to
industrial societies, he argues that as these transitions occur, violence is often used to strengthen the
system of production.
In spite of Third World countries similar pre industrial history and early policies aimed at
industrializing, Third World countries have not had the same growth as most European countries.
Bates analyzes the process of development and concludes that this time period as an important

Even though the monarch had to relinquish power to the people, it was in the monarchs advantage.
They led persuared them to buy into the monarchs desire for war and as a result the monarch received
more money from the people. Bates argues that some institutions in European states were forged by
war. The absence of this threat would prevent the new juridical states from developing parallel
institutions. In order to achieve prosperity, states require a shift from subsistence agriculture and kin
based mechanisms of enforcement to specialization within urban city centers. Rulers replace kin
networks as the source for the threat of violence, which was necessary to ensure security of person,
property and contracts. Bates states, Governments pursued policies that promoted the growth of the
economy and the rise of parliamentary institutions not because they wanted to but because they had to,
the better to secure the resources with which to fight (56). Rulers made themselves attractive to private
creditors and encouraged their subjects to invest in capital because they believe their investments were
safe. This resulted in economic growth and, therefore, tax revenue.
Another key argument Bates presents is the importance of investing to promote economic
development. Without a proficient state to control violence, people in societies will mainly focus on
consumption instead of investment. It is almost human nature to think

Red Headed Hawaii
Most people imagine Hawaii to be paradise. An island Utopia where the rich and upper middle class
come on vacation. However just like most places Hawaii has its own share of poverty, economic
problems, environmental issues, high crime rate, and high unemployment rates. The Red Headed
Hawaiian by Chris McKinney gives a more realistic and insightful view on what life in Hawaii is like
for the Hawaiians. The book was published May 1st, 2014, it is a first hand account of what life in
Hawaii is really like. It tells of the struggles and hardships native Hawaiians have to face just to make
a living. It describes the challenges they overcome along with the brave souls who overcome them.
The story of the red headed Hawaiian is about a local who one day decides that he wants to become a

Conscription In Canada Essay
WWII was a defining moment in Canadian history, transforming a quiet country on the verge of global
affairs into a crucial opponent in the 20th century s most tragic battle. Canada played a vital role in the
Battle of the Atlantic and the air war over Germany, and sacrificed thousands of lives. Between 1939
and 1945 more than one million Canadian men and women served full time in the armed services and
more than 43,000 were killed (Stacey, July 15, 2013 ). In November 1944, after extreme losses in
front line units serving in Northwest Europe and Italy, Ottawa legitimized conscription, sending out
16,000 home defence men overseas (Canadian War Museum, N/A). This implement for Conscription
was necessary for Canada based on the lack of Canadian volunteers, the ... Show more content on

After the Normandy campaign in 1944, a shortage of military reinforcements arose and Minister of
Ralston told Cabinet that the time for overseas conscription had come (Stacey, July 15, 2013). Canada
had failed to recruit on any large number of home defence volunteers for overseas services, forcing
King to face an extremely difficult decision. This is not to say that Canada always had a shortage of
volunteers, it wasn t until 1943 that the issue of insufficient amounts of volunteers started to arise. At
the beginning of WWII, there were up to 41.15% military volunteers (Canada at War, December 3,
2007). However, with Quebec feeling alienated from Canada, they were contributing significantly less
amounts of volunteers compared to all other provinces. With every other province supplying between
42 50% of volunteers, Quebec had a shocking 22%. Even with the other provinces pulling their weight
at the original 40% (still less than half), by 1944 these volunteer rates would drop by 15% (H.

Constitution. New federal laws have buckled down on immigration, however this does not affect
sanctuary cities. Sanctuary cities do not have to follow the exaggerated immigration laws, due to the
tenth amendment. The tenth amendment separates federal and state powers, meaning that the states
have jurisdiction in sanctuary cities. Referencing the Immigrant Legal Resource Center, the
Amendment prevents the federal government from coercing state or local governments to use their
resources to enforce a federal regulatory program ... Similarly to how the tenth amendment protects
sanctuary cities from federal law, it also protects them from the federal government attempting to
force sanctuary cities to provide information. For this reason, sanctuary cities keep a don t ask, don t

The Immigrant Legal Resource Center assures that, Congress cannot compel state or local
governments to collect immigration status information in order to share it with the federal
government. The don t ask, don t tell policy refers to the sanctuary cities version of not collecting data.
Without collecting data, these cities are never in violation of federal law. There is very limited record

Improvements As A Writer And Thinker
Improvements as a Writer and Thinker Reflecting as a writer and thinker I have noticed tremendous
improvements in my work. My whole thought process and way of viewing topics has changed, giving
me a better understanding when I write. In the beginning of the term I ran into many problems in
College Writing I for instance, I was not too familiar with writing in MLA format and struggled
reaching the page count. I found myself to procrastinate when papers were assigned making my
anxiety levels increase. Despite my struggles as a writer and thinker, I learned how to overcome these
obstacles. I learned to be open minded and looking at topics from another perspective. In the
beginning of the term I was assigned an essay that described me as a writer and thinker. With this
essay being my first assignment, I was quite stressed with the feeling of failure. After this assignment I
learned the importance of the drafting system. After my paper was graded I received it back and
noticed multiple mistakes. This was the first step I practiced improving. Writing multiple drafts helped
me analysis the material I wrote from another point of view. For example, I was able to eliminate
sections that were unrelated from the main point. Building my vocabulary up another step I had focus
as a writer and thinker. I used a combination between the dictionary and thesaurus to help me increase
my vocabulary. Overtime with experience, I saw improvements in all of these categories that I was

Essay on Greek Mythology and Hercules
Capturing the Herculean Hero Ancient Greek and Roman mythology are polytheistic religions that
emerged in Western Europe thousands of years ago. Both cultures believe in mostly the same gods and
demigods, also known as half gods, but have different names to designate them. Perhaps the most
famous demigod known most notably for his superhuman strength is Hercules, the Roman name for
the Greek demigod Heracles. The superman like figure is even more popular in mythology than
certain gods and goddesses. Over time, artists and sculptors have attempted to depict Hercules through
different types of material and physical poses. Although each depiction has its own individuality in the
material by which it was created and the stance the demigod ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

He also draws the viewer s eye to Hercules in particular by using chiaroscuro (Sporre 60) and
contrasting light and shade. The artist highlights the hero with light colors for a skin tone and
engulfing him with dark and gloomy colors. One of the most intriguing features of this piece of work
is the muscle definition in Hercules s body and Zurbaran s ability to capture the demigod in motion.
Hercules is shown as an extremely toned tall, young man with a dark beard and thick hair. By the
creases in his leg muscles, Hercules is sent in motion and it is evident that the hero is using all his
might to pull the beast towards him in order to control him. Thousands of years ago, before artists
work fell into the category and style of art that existed during their time period, art was portrayed
mostly through carved slabs or marble or stone. Art has existed since years before the Common Era
and date all the way back to prehistory. It has helped historians and scientists understand the lifestyles
in which past civilizations had followed. In Ancient Rome and Greece, for example, many artists
sculpted religious figures in accordance to their polytheistic, mythological beliefs. Almost every artist,
if not all, of these sculptures remains unknown to this day but their work lives on to inspire others.

Jeans Are A Modern Staple Of Everyone s Closet
Jeans are a modern staple in everyone s closet. They are versatile and look great on everyone, if you

Jeans are an article of clothing I invest in, much like many other people. I suffered through ill fitting
jean all throughout middle school, until I was enlightened. My sister took me to American Eagle
picked out a pair for me to try on. I could immediately feel and see the quality difference. The jeans
didn t even feel like the inelastic and inflexible jeans I was forced to wear throughout my childhood.
American Eagle Jeans had set a new standard for me. They offer an extensive variety in styles,
washes, and sizes. The only small flaw is their retail pricing, but it is certainly worth the investment.
American Eagle jeans are made out of a premium cotton denim material called Cotton Elastane and
top of the line dyes. Cotton Elastane is breathable, elastic, flexible, and comfortable. This ninety nine
percent cotton one percent elastane blend of fabrics is what sets American Eagle Jeans from other jean
brands that produce a product that is stiff, unbreathable, uncomfortable, and restrictive. This premium
material is extremely durable, withstanding multiple washes and wears with no signs of weakening.
Through all of the washes and wears they still manage to keep their elasticity. Other jeans I have had

Omnipotent and Omniscient. The way they conquer their rightful cities are pretty different as well, in
one story for instance they are backed up by an army and in the other they just don t need one. Also,

God says Who says to the depths of the sea, Be dry, and I will dry up your rivers; who says to

Stigma Of Social Welfare System
The social welfare system in the United States is defined through several different sectors of
government and generally comes along with a negative stigma. When people hear about social welfare
they generally tend to think about the government assistance programs, and not the other programs
such as tax credits or social insurance (Tussing 1974). This paper aims to explain and describe the
social welfare programs, as well as show how widespread social welfare is.
Midgley defines social welfare as a condition or state of human well being that exists when people s
needs are met, problems are managed, and opportunities are maximized (2009). Although, this
definition does cover the basic definition of social welfare, Tussing argues that there are two systems
within the welfare system and gives a greater understanding of the social insurance system (1974).
The stigma that goes along with being associated with social welfare programs generally doesn t
include the policies that are in place to assist the non poor. The PowerPoint argues that there are
different models to social welfare; residual and institutional and different programs; selective and
universal (PowerPoint). The main point difference between the institutional approach and the residual
approach is that the institutional approach is preventative where the residual approach is set up as a
safety net, when something goes wrong (PowerPoint). The institutional approach acknowledges the
need for social services

Theme Of Death Of The Moth By Virginia Woolf
The story by Virginia Wolf universally illustrates the struggle for life and death. It is a common phrase
that death is inevitable the story shows the struggles with life that are not won in the end. In The Death
of the Moth, Woolf observes a moth flying against a window pane, seemingly trying to get to the
outside world, and not aware that the window pane is blocking its way. There is truth in saying the
only commonality between lives is the inevitability of death. The Death of the Moth by Virginia Woolf
explores this theme. Although the thesis is never formally stated, it can be interpreted to be that death
is inescapable, and in spite of life being an uphill battle, it can never be won as eventually death
claims us all. Taking into account Woolf s personal life, which was plagued with bouts of mental
illnesses, ultimately resulting in her suicide; this essay could be considered a comparison between her
own life and the moth s. This essay is intended for the general public, but it particularly resonates with
women and minorities, this is because of Woolf s description of the moth s battles. In retelling the
moth s struggles the audience develops a certain bond with the moth, this is amplified for people who
have been repressed, as they can relate to the hardships this looked down upon moth has endured.
The author has a pessimistic view on life and death which is manifested in the tone. Woolf is clear on
her view that life is just one battle after another, and that

Comparing Grendel And Beowulf
After reading the classic Anglo Saxon tale, Beowulf, readers find themselves engrossed in the
character of Grendel. This interest led to John Gardner s creation of Grendel, a novel that tells Grendel
s side of the story and gives readers a deeper understanding of the character s personality and morals.
While the two stories use the same characters, they are still extremely different. Beowulf s predictable
narrative and basic language make the story very easy to comprehend, while Grendel is filled with
complex phrasing and intricate characters that require intense analyzation to decipher. The analyzation
required to truly understand Grendel displays the varying audiences the stories were written for.
Grendel and Beowulf also use completely different ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The theme coming of age is included in both compositions. Throughout Grendel, Grendel struggles to
come to terms with who he is and frequently straddles the border between adulthood and childhood.
For example, after getting stuck in a tree, Grendel cries out for his mother and then moments later
contemplates the meaning of life: The king snatched an ax from the man beside him and, without any
warning, he hurled it at me... I bellowed for my mother...I tried to tell her that happened, all that I d
come to understand: the meaningless objectiveness of the world... (Gardner 27 28). This bouncing
back and forth between a child s mindset and an adult s shows Grendel s gradual coming of age.
Beowulf s main character, Beowulf, is forced to endure many quests that challenge him not only
physically, but mentally forcing him to come of age as well. Beowulf has to question many of the
things he thought he knew, resulting in him growing wiser, much like Grendel. For example, during
his fight with Grendel, Beowulf first says he does not want the help of his Thanes, but when Grendel
starts to beat him, his Thanes are forced to step in (Beowulf Lines 80 100). This teaches Beowulf that
he needs to accept help in the end and does not always have to accomplish things on his own,
something he uses to his advantage in later battles. Altogether, both Grendel and Beowulf

The Lion King was a festive and fantastic production. The success relied heavily on its use of masks

the cartoon movie s story into a musical that takes not only the movie, but also the concept of
theatrical spectacle to a new level. The cartoon characters have been reinvented with wildly

The Evolution Of The Music Industry
History From the invention of first recording device in 1877 to cassettes to digital recording in 1987 to
MP3 in 1990 and to iTunes in 2003, the music industry has become an important global industry in
last 50 years. The evolution of the music industry has given a boom to the economic activity in many
geographical scales. Technological development has been playing an effective role for the evolution of
the music industries. Looking back at the success of these music businesses, it used to be all about fun,
dignity, entertainment and business. There were no issues regarding our social and cultural values nor
there were any piracy issues. But gradually with the evolution of the music industry, it has also
challenged our social and cultural boundaries. Current issues and legislation The product of the music
industry has also been an effective tool for communication. It holds the potential to convey an
emotion, tell a story or act as a medium for celebration. The impact of music can be felt in almost
every aspect of life, because we listen to it on our daily life. In like manner, music and the music
industry also play a significant role in communicating its social norms. These ideals have challenged
political and religious ideologies, social and cultural boundaries, and individual and gender rights.
Unlike the old ethical principles, these days they have regulated their own set of ethical principles in
this industry. Nowadays, these business functions through power, lies,

Effects of Alcohol and Fetal Alcohol Syndrome Essay
Effects of Alcohol and Fetal Alcohol Syndrome
Works Cited Missing
Alcohol plays a major role in society today. It is constantly being in our minds through
advertisements, whether its commercials or billboards, holidays, or even just at the popular social
scene. Alcohol is consumed for many purposes, such as celebrations, to increase romance, out of
boredom, or a way to relax. Alcohol is a drug that is depended upon by the majority of our society.
Nonetheless, alcohol has very damaging effects, not only does it cause self inflicted diseases
resembling alcoholism or cirrhosis of the liver, but it harms unborn fetuses as well. Many women

A small brain, learning disabilities, short attention span, hyperactivity in childhood, and poor body,
hand, and finger coordination are examples of CNS handicaps.(NIAAA, p.1) Mental handicaps and
hyperactivity are probably the most debilitating aspects of FAS.(Streissguth,
p.1)
Children with FAS also suffer from facial abnormalities. These abnormalities include: small eye
openings, drooping eyelids, short upturned nose, thin upper lip, and low set or poorly formed ears.
(NIAAA, p.1) These facial patterns distinguish children with FAS/FAE from normal children,
however they are not harshly malformed.
A more serious and life threatening symptom of FAS is organ deformities.
This includes heart defects, heart murmurs, genital malformities, as well as urinary and kidney
defects. Abnormal thyroid functioning and a decrease in the effectiveness of the immune system are
also present in infants exposed to alcohol. What about paternal alcohol consumption? Alcohol may
affect fetal development through a direct effect on the father s sperm or gonads. Studies have shown
that children with alcoholic fathers often experience cognitive abilities and have a greater chance of
being hyperactive. These findings were found in adoption cases, where the biological father was an
alcoholic and the child was raised by nonalcoholic parents.(Cicero,p.3)

Intercontinental Ballistic Missile Paper
In this paper, I will be discussing the Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM). In addition, I will
cover the newly revealed DF 26 ICBM missile. The advancement of China s missile program and
nuclear program will discusse. I will also briefly talk about the vehicle on which the DF 26 is carried,
and launched. The threat against Guam will be a main topic of this paper. I will also discuss the United
Sates Military forces that are located on the island of Guam.
China is one of three countries that have organized ICBM systems. The three countries that have an
organized ICBM system are United States, China, and Russia. The original designs of the ICBM were

This advancement lead to the unveiling of the DF 26 ICBM, it was preceded by the DF 21. The DF 26
was designed to achieve an estimated max range of 5,000 km, 3,400 miles, using a two stage solid fuel
system. It is carried on a 12x12 chassis, which has limited cross country capability. This missile can
also be equipped with a non nuclear warhead designed for destroying aircraft carriers and destroyers.
The only weakness this missile has is the sighting system; it is not as advanced as the missile and
makes accuracy only within 100 miles. The DF 26 is being dubbed as the Guam Killer due to the fact
that Guam is only 2,500 miles from Beijing. Making the DF 26 a very real threat to Guam and the

The Performance Of The Three Companies
After analyzing the performance of the three companies, located in the U.S., New Zealand, and
Argentina, I have discovered issues that need correction in each of the locations. First off, my analysis
shows that your company s performance in the U.S. is producing at 126% of the acceptable upper
limit. Although you can look at this as successful production, continuously operating at this rate the
company in this location is running the risk for saturating its market. Once the market becomes
saturated with your product, this will cause prices to drop, therefore continuing to generate revenue
will not be easy. Being that production is above standards I do not see a problem within the structure
or the operations within the organization at this location. However, maximizing the profit margins
would be the best strategy. I would recommend throttling back on production quantity by lowering
labor resources, which will help increase the unit profit margin. With the information, I have gathered
on this location my data shows me that with using fewer resources you can still achieve the same
production performance. With cutting back on labor resources, you will be able to achieve the same
goals using less human resources. As a result, the company is saving desired time and money allowing
your profits to increase. I would also like to recommend utilizing the forecasting technique because
this will enable managers to make the correct decisions by providing valuable information to

Causes Of The Failure Of Patriot Missile Defense
On February 25, 1991, during the Gulf War, an American Patriot Missile battery in Dharan, Saudi
Arabia, failed to track and intercept an incoming Iraqi Scud missile. The Scud struck an American
Army barracks, killing 28 soldiers and injuring around 100 other people. A report of the General
Accounting office, GAO/IMTEC 92 26, entitled Patriot Missile Defense: Software Problem Led to
System Failure at Dhahran, Saudi Arabia reported on the cause of the failure. It turns out that the
cause was an inaccurate calculation of the time since boot due to computer arithmetic errors.
Specifically, the time in tenths of second as measured by the system s internal clock was multiplied by
1/10 to produce the time in seconds. This calculation was performed

The Fashion Choices People Make Should Not Define Who They...
The fashion choices people make should not define who they are. People should be judged based on
their actions and not by their fashion choices. Passing judgement based on looks can hurt others and
cause issues in society. Some people are required to dress in a certain fashion, but that does not
determine whether they are good or bad. I chose this argument topic because it involves my major in
fashion and also an issue for which I can relate. The study of fashion and sociology can relate in some
ways, therefore, this would be an interesting argumentative research topic.
The first key point that I can use in my essay would be that children, especially teenagers, are judge by
their peers based on their fashion choices. This claim supports my argument by showing that teenagers
that are judged harshly, often feel forced to dress a certain way to be accepted. The second key point
that I can use is that people of different cultures are expected to behave a certain way or have certain
beliefs based on their attire. This key point supports my argument to show that stereotyping people
based in their culture can cause result in issues within society. The last key point that I can use is that
fashion choices express how someone feels and not how they are. Someone s style of fashion can
change at any time or frequency, depending on how he or she feels at certain times, or in a specific
situation.
The audience that will be reading my essay will be my instructor or anyone else that is

Comparing Nursing Home
As we age, our health declines and tasks that we used to perform alone, we now need help with. The
elderly is the fastest growing population, with little to no one to support them. The dilemma is who

Archetype In The Hunger Games
The Journey
I was thirteen years old, sitting on my couch watching The Hunger Games, when Katniss starts to say,
I volunteer, I volunteer as tribute! with a terrifying look on her face. Now, I know it s not real or
anything, I mean, it s just a movie, but I can t help but wonder what thoughts were racing through her
mind at the beginning of the most life threatening experience that anyone could ever have. Was she
feeling nervous, scared, anxious, terrified, relieved, trapped? She was obviously feeling all of these
things and probably a million more, from what I know, she s only a little teenager, and now what, she
has to fight for her life and the whole district? Sitting here, watching her struggles throughout this

What are the origins of the journey archetype? The concept of Archetypes has been around since at
least the time of Plato, who believed that archetypal patterns were imprinted upon the soul at the time
of birth, and that the soul then played out these patterns. , according to the website, Archetypal Energy
. This means that the soul would then have this or live up to their archetype. The journey archetype
can be known as learning the language of your soul, as it guides you to a huge step into the real world,
finding, and understanding yourself and others. Humans often go through hardships but make it
through in the end because they know they have so much to live for. They also have a relation to
where mythology came from, they formulate the life of all the archetypes. Archetypes have been

The two goals were selected based on personal reflection and suggestions from supervisors and colleagues. After reviewing the videos recorded early this year, I noticed that student learning and engagement could be heightened if I incorporated more technology and implemented differentiated teaching/learning strategies. My overall goal is to enhance learning and increase student engagement by effectively implementing the strategies mentioned above. Both poets communicate their individual opinion, Longfellow s 19th century poem discusses the importance of creating a legacy and leaving an impact on time, whereas Herrick s 17th century cavalier style poem implies the significance of retaining the prime years of your life, and portrays the brevity of the life cycle. These main aspects of Carpe Diem are expressed through various visual and auditory features to manifest an idea to readers about how to seize the day. In To the virgins, To Make Much of Time , Herrick uses a variety of visual techniques ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Herrick discusses the inevitability of death but the tone maintains the positive and cheerful nature. The tone promotes optimism to us readers and reflects how Herrick views life. Herrick uses alliteration throughout the poem, such as in stanza 1 with same and smiles , or stanza 2 with higher and he s . These examples of alliteration create focus on the importance of the ideas the poet presents on Carpe Diem. The auditory features cooperate to communicate Herrick s main ideas on the notion of how to seize the day. In A Psalm of Life , Longfellow develops ideas on Carpe Diem through visual representations. The poet, using a powerful extended metaphor in stanza 5, expresses life as a battle using striking visual imagery with the phrase, In the world s broad field of battle . A military battle negatively connotes hardship and unpredictability , reflecting the nature of suffering in life. The metaphor continues throughout the stanza conveying to readers not to be dumb, driven cattle whereas to be a hero in the strife! . This compelling idea supports the theme of creating a legacy and promotes being courageous. Longfellow reinforces his agnostic ideas, which are disagreed with by Herrick, about religion several times in the poem, suggesting religion holds people back from seizing the day. Origins Of The Byzantine Empire Culminating Activity Board Information Origins of the Byzantine Empire (330 1453 CE) The Byzantine Empire is another word for the eastern half of the Roman Empire. It was born after a series of events that led to the fall of the western half of the Roman Empire. In 285 A.D., Diocletian decided to split the Roman Empire in half because the rapidly growing population was becoming too large to govern for a single person. This decision is considered to be one of the main acts that led to the downfall of the Western Roman world. The Byzantine Empire began to take shape after Constantine I took control of the Western Roman Empire after winning the Battle of the Milvian Bridge in October of year 312 A.D. Around 324 A.D., the Constantine I, defeated his co emperor, Licinius, in a battle. Constantine became the first Christian emperor the Roman Empire ever had. In 330 A.D., Constantine I relocated the capital of Rome and chose to establish it in the city on the east, known as Byzantium. The new Roman capital became known as Constantinople. The Western Roman Empire began to slowly disintegrate as Germanic tribes, like the Vandals began invading the Western Roman Empire. In 476, the barbarian Odoacer invaded Rome and overthrew the last emperor, Romulus Augustus, and Rome fall. The fall of the Western Roman Empire in 476 separated the prosperous eastern half of the Roman Empire and spawned a new Rome with a rich culture and the most powerful economy in all of Europe. • 6. Life Of Pi By Ang Lee Life of Pi Film Analysis Everyone grows up. Some sooner than others. It may be subtle, and it could be traumatizing. In The Life of Pi produced by Ang Lee, Pi got the latter. The major running theme throughout the movie is that the loss of innocence is something everyone goes through. Ang Lee shows this in the use of lighting, angles, and sound effects in multiple scenes. When Pi has to change his name because the kids at school were making fun of him, when he is forced to watch the tiger eat the baby goat alive, his first love and his first heartbreak, when his family has to move away from his home, losing his entire family in a shipwreck, caring for himself and a tiger while at sea, and finally, in realizing what actually happened those first few days after the shipwreck are all examples of this theme. Piscine Molitor Patel, or Pi, was named after the cleanest, most pure swimming pool in all of France. This brings in the cinematic effect of the water and what it resembles throughout the movie. When good things happen, the water will be clear and pure. When bad things happen (or will happen), the water is cloudy or reflective. At the young age of 11, kids from Pi s school start making fun of him, calling him Pissing , soiling the pure and innocent meaning behind his name and what it stands for. With one word my name went from an elegant French swimming pool to a stinking Indian latrine, I was pissing everywhere. Pi, being the kind and innocent child that he ... A deeper look into the story reveals that the wife s selfishness and pity for her life is fueling her sorrow and along with their lack of communication causes the demise of this family. Him allowing her to stop seeing their son is just enabling her to isolate herself one step further. He should sit her down and explain, she can either talk to him about what is wrong or she can talk to a doctor. His passiveness about the issue allows her to make the decisions when it is clear that she is not capable of making any decisions. In shutting herself off from others, especially a small child, she is being selfish. She is not considering what feelings the child might have: rejection, feelings of guilt, self esteem. What have I done for mommy not to want to see me? What is wrong with me? The isolation and turning away her child and her husband states that her feelings come before theirs. The mother is usually the one teaching the children of compassion and respect for other s feelings. How does the child learn these things if his own mother puts her feelings above his needs for nurturing and love? • 8. Analysis Of The Poem Lady Lazarus In the poem Lady Lazarus, there are many images that invoke the story of Jesus raising Lazarus from the dead. The encounters that Lady Lazarus had with death both accidental and intentional resonates a dark and grim tone throughout the poem. Looking at the lines four and five, she makes a reference to the lampshades that were made out of the skin of slaughtered Jews by the Nazis. With this reference she wants readers to make that connection between her and the Holocaust victims. As we go down to lines ten through fifteen, she tells the readers to peel off the napkin referring to the white sheet used to cover corpses to view her face. She also describes herself having eye pits instead of eyes and stinking sour breath . With those references, I interpret that as although technically she is alive, her body is almost dead. We get more of the gruesomeness of the speaker coming back to life in lines sixteen through eighteen Lady Lazarus states that the grave cave , which is symbolism of death, ate the flesh that was on her within her home. In line twenty one, she briefly compares herself to having the nine lives of a cat through a simile but in a much grimmer version by saying she has nine times to die. When Lady Lazarus refers to annihilating a trash in lines twenty three to twenty four, my interpretation of that statement is that she is speaking about death. Once a decade she comes close to dying. In effect, she is calling her life, otherwise referred to her body as a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Essay On Crime In America Crime in America Student s Name Institutional Affiliation Crime in America Introduction The highest percentage of people in the American prisons is made up of drug related and non violent crimes. Young people who occasionally abuse drugs engage in crimes that not only threaten the security of the nation but the lives of the victims. There are many propositions to reducing crimes and various legislations have been set to help reduce the crime rate in America. There is however a need to evaluate the best method for crime control and prevention to effectively deals with this menace. Programs assisting law enforcers and rehabilitations programs for the criminals can be an effective measure of preventing crime. Assist Law Enforcers Most of the criminals repeatedly engage in violent acts since they are assured that the law enforcers would not arrest them. The perpetrators possess crude weapons and guns that they use to attack the policemen. In this case, the law enforcers are intimidated by the large number of gangs because they continuously threaten them (Silver Livingston, 2017). It is thus important to ensure that the federal government has passed laws that seek to safeguard the security of the law enforcers so that they can proactively combat crimes (Neese, 2017) .Once a criminal understands that attacking a police or ... In order to achieve prosperity, states require a shift from subsistence agriculture and kin based mechanisms of enforcement to specialization within urban city centers. Rulers replace kin networks as the source for the threat of violence, which was necessary to ensure security of person, property and contracts. Bates states, Governments pursued policies that promoted the growth of the economy and the rise of parliamentary institutions not because they wanted to but because they had to, the better to secure the resources with which to fight (56). Rulers made themselves attractive to private creditors and encouraged their subjects to invest in capital because they believe their investments were safe. The Immigrant Legal Resource Center assures that, Congress cannot compel state or local governments to collect immigration status information in order to share it with the federal government. The don t ask, don t tell policy refers to the sanctuary cities version of not collecting data. Without collecting data, these cities are never in violation of federal law. There is very limited record keeping done in these cities, which works in tandem with the don t ask, don t tell policy. Therefore, the tenth amendment of the U.S. Constitution protects sanctuary cities from the federal government in enforcing federal law, forcing private information from the cities, and protecting the citizens of these cities with a don t ask, don t tell ... • 26. Improvements As A Writer And Thinker Improvements as a Writer and Thinker Reflecting as a writer and thinker I have noticed tremendous improvements in my work. My whole thought process and way of viewing topics has changed, giving me a better understanding when I write. In the beginning of the term I ran into many problems in College Writing I for instance, I was not too familiar with writing in MLA format and struggled reaching the page count. I found myself to procrastinate when papers were assigned making my anxiety levels increase. Despite my struggles as a writer and thinker, I learned how to overcome these obstacles. I learned to be open minded and looking at topics from another perspective. In the beginning of the term I was assigned an essay that described me as a writer and thinker. With this essay being my first assignment, I was quite stressed with the feeling of failure. After this assignment I learned the importance of the drafting system. After my paper was graded I received it back and noticed multiple mistakes. This was the first step I practiced improving. Writing multiple drafts helped me analysis the material I wrote from another point of view. For example, I was able to eliminate sections that were unrelated from the main point. Building my vocabulary up another step I had focus as a writer and thinker. I used a combination between the dictionary and thesaurus to help me increase my vocabulary. Overtime with experience, I saw improvements in all of these categories that I was struggling ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 27. Essay on Greek Mythology and Hercules Capturing the Herculean Hero Ancient Greek and Roman mythology are polytheistic religions that emerged in Western Europe thousands of years ago. Both cultures believe in mostly the same gods and demigods, also known as half gods, but have different names to designate them. Perhaps the most famous demigod known most notably for his superhuman strength is Hercules, the Roman name for the Greek demigod Heracles. The superman like figure is even more popular in mythology than certain gods and goddesses. Over time, artists and sculptors have attempted to depict Hercules through different types of material and physical poses. The artist highlights the hero with light colors for a skin tone and engulfing him with dark and gloomy colors. One of the most intriguing features of this piece of work is the muscle definition in Hercules s body and Zurbaran s ability to capture the demigod in motion. Hercules is shown as an extremely toned tall, young man with a dark beard and thick hair. By the creases in his leg muscles, Hercules is sent in motion and it is evident that the hero is using all his might to pull the beast towards him in order to control him. Thousands of years ago, before artists work fell into the category and style of art that existed during their time period, art was portrayed mostly through carved slabs or marble or stone. Art has existed since years before the Common Era and date all the way back to prehistory. It has helped historians and scientists understand the lifestyles in which past civilizations had followed. Not all jeans cater to everyone s needs; you must find your preferred jean brand. Jeans are an article of clothing I invest in, much like many other people. I suffered through ill fitting jean all throughout middle school, until I was enlightened. My sister took me to American Eagle picked out a pair for me to try on. I could immediately feel and see the quality difference. The jeans didn t even feel like the inelastic and inflexible jeans I was forced to wear throughout my childhood. American Eagle Jeans had set a new standard for me. They offer an extensive variety in styles, washes, and sizes. The only small flaw is their retail pricing, but it is certainly worth the investment. American Eagle jeans are made out of a premium cotton denim material called Cotton Elastane and top of the line dyes. Cotton Elastane is breathable, elastic, flexible, and comfortable. This ninety nine percent cotton one percent elastane blend of fabrics is what sets American Eagle Jeans from other jean brands that produce a product that is stiff, unbreathable, uncomfortable, and restrictive. This premium material is extremely durable, withstanding multiple washes and wears with no signs of weakening. Through all of the washes and wears they still manage to keep their elasticity. • 32. Stigma Of Social Welfare System The social welfare system in the United States is defined through several different sectors of government and generally comes along with a negative stigma. When people hear about social welfare they generally tend to think about the government assistance programs, and not the other programs such as tax credits or social insurance (Tussing 1974). This paper aims to explain and describe the social welfare programs, as well as show how widespread social welfare is. Midgley defines social welfare as a condition or state of human well being that exists when people s needs are met, problems are managed, and opportunities are maximized (2009). Although, this definition does cover the basic definition of social welfare, Tussing argues that there are two systems within the welfare system and gives a greater understanding of the social insurance system (1974). The stigma that goes along with being associated with social welfare programs generally doesn t include the policies that are in place to assist the non poor. The PowerPoint argues that there are different models to social welfare; residual and institutional and different programs; selective and universal (PowerPoint). The main point difference between the institutional approach and the residual approach is that the institutional approach is preventative where the residual approach is set up as a safety net, when something goes wrong (PowerPoint). • 36. Theme Of Death Of The Moth By Virginia Woolf The story by Virginia Wolf universally illustrates the struggle for life and death. It is a common phrase that death is inevitable the story shows the struggles with life that are not won in the end. In The Death of the Moth, Woolf observes a moth flying against a window pane, seemingly trying to get to the outside world, and not aware that the window pane is blocking its way. There is truth in saying the only commonality between lives is the inevitability of death. The Death of the Moth by Virginia Woolf explores this theme. Although the thesis is never formally stated, it can be interpreted to be that death is inescapable, and in spite of life being an uphill battle, it can never be won as eventually death claims us all. Taking into account Woolf s personal life, which was plagued with bouts of mental illnesses, ultimately resulting in her suicide; this essay could be considered a comparison between her own life and the moth s. This essay is intended for the general public, but it particularly resonates with women and minorities, this is because of Woolf s description of the moth s battles. In retelling the moth s struggles the audience develops a certain bond with the moth, this is amplified for people who have been repressed, as they can relate to the hardships this looked down upon moth has endured. The author has a pessimistic view on life and death which is manifested in the tone. Woolf is clear on her view that life is just one battle after another, and that ... This interest led to John Gardner s creation of Grendel, a novel that tells Grendel s side of the story and gives readers a deeper understanding of the character s personality and morals. While the two stories use the same characters, they are still extremely different. Beowulf s predictable narrative and basic language make the story very easy to comprehend, while Grendel is filled with complex phrasing and intricate characters that require intense analyzation to decipher. Throughout Grendel, Grendel struggles to come to terms with who he is and frequently straddles the border between adulthood and childhood. I bellowed for my mother...I tried to tell her that happened, all that I d come to understand: the meaningless objectiveness of the world... (Gardner 27 28). This bouncing back and forth between a child s mindset and an adult s shows Grendel s gradual coming of age. Beowulf s main character, Beowulf, is forced to endure many quests that challenge him not only physically, but mentally forcing him to come of age as well. Beowulf has to question many of the things he thought he knew, resulting in him growing wiser, much like Grendel. For example, during his fight with Grendel, Beowulf first says he does not want the help of his Thanes, but when Grendel starts to beat him, his Thanes are forced to step in (Beowulf Lines 80 100). This teaches Beowulf that he needs to accept help in the end and does not always have to accomplish things on his own, something he uses to his advantage in later battles. The Performance Of The Three Companies After analyzing the performance of the three companies, located in the U.S., New Zealand, and Argentina, I have discovered issues that need correction in each of the locations. First off, my analysis shows that your company s performance in the U.S. is producing at 126% of the acceptable upper limit. Although you can look at this as successful production, continuously operating at this rate the company in this location is running the risk for saturating its market. Once the market becomes saturated with your product, this will cause prices to drop, therefore continuing to generate revenue will not be easy. Being that production is above standards I do not see a problem within the structure or the operations within the organization at this location. However, maximizing the profit margins would be the best strategy. I would recommend throttling back on production quantity by lowering labor resources, which will help increase the unit profit margin. With the information, I have gathered on this location my data shows me that with using fewer resources you can still achieve the same production performance. With cutting back on labor resources, you will be able to achieve the same goals using less human resources. As a result, the company is saving desired time and money allowing your profits to increase. People should be judged based on their actions and not by their fashion choices. Passing judgement based on looks can hurt others and cause issues in society. Some people are required to dress in a certain fashion, but that does not determine whether they are good or bad. I chose this argument topic because it involves my major in fashion and also an issue for which I can relate. The study of fashion and sociology can relate in some ways, therefore, this would be an interesting argumentative research topic. The first key point that I can use in my essay would be that children, especially teenagers, are judge by their peers based on their fashion choices. This claim supports my argument by showing that teenagers that are judged harshly, often feel forced to dress a certain way to be accepted. The second key point that I can use is that people of different cultures are expected to behave a certain way or have certain beliefs based on their attire.
