the speed of mental processes. Knowledge of advanced vocabulary or more advanced learned
mathematical concepts, such as formulas, is not required as the objective of the category is merely
to test speed of the participants ability to perform mental computations. All of the answers to the
following questions will be quantitative.)Theoretical Mathematics
(Measures the cognitive ability to perform theoretical computations without numerical values;
measures the ability to recognize mathematical relationships in commonplace situations. All of the
answers to the following questions will be in term of another variable or in relationship to another
factor in the question. None of the answers will ask for a definitive quantitative answer; all answers
will be more theoretical and will test the test takers ability to recognize mathematical patterns and
relationships.)Reading Comprehension and Memory (Short Term)
A few questions will test the participants ability to recall very short passage/sentences verbatim and

Analysis Of Sergei Eisenstein s The Strike
The Strike by Sergei Eisenstein is a 1925 silent film depicting a variety of factory workers in pre
Soviet Russia carrying out a strike, and then being suppressed by governmental forces. Eisenstein
uses an, at the time, novel editing technique which he entitled the montage of attractions in order to
engage and manipulate his viewers attentions. In this critique, the final scene of The Strike, will be
examined in order to bring to light the brutal editing, visual techniques, and associations between
brutal imagery used by Eisenstein in order to shape his viewers into a state of shock and terror
when exposed to the proletariat oppression exhibited in the film. Eisenstein, in his own paper, aptly
titled the Montage of Film Attractions, Eisenstein explains his novel technique for creating
associations in the viewer of a film s mind by using quick cuts and associations. He defines the
concept as, not in fact phenomena that are compared, but chains of associations that are linked to a
particular phenomenon in the mind of a particular audience. Hence Eisenstein is saying, simply,
that in his opinion that there will be a greater effect psychologically amongst audiences if a film
is able to create associations between personal stimuli, which will in create an underlying
emotional phenomena. He uses the example of a horror film to explain this concept, A throat is
gripped, eyes bulge, knife is brandished, the victim closes his eyes, blood is spattered on a wall, the

Examples Of Sexism In Whale Rider
Whale Rider Paragraph 2 Jonathon Hogg A major theme in the film Whale Rider (produced in
2004 and directed by Niki Caro) is Bullying mainly in the form of sexism. Throughout the film
Koro (Paikea s Grandfather), is sexist towards Paikea (Main Character and Heroine) and
children of the male gender. The theme is relevant to society today because there will always be
sexist people wherever you go. The director (Caro) shows that Koro is sexist by subjecting male
and female roles and making sure that the traditions of the Maori stay the same. Paikea is unable
to do the traditional dance of the Maori or use the Taha because it was considered a Male Role
within the tribe and Males weren t supposed to cry because it would make them seem weak

Performative Documentary
A performative role is that which emphasizes a hidden aspect of performance in a film either as a
subject or the filmmaker. According to Bruzzi (2000), performative documentary is a speech act;
it both describes and performs an action. A documentary only comes into being as it is performed,
and only becomes meaningful as a negotiation between performance and reality. Their role is to
make the audience feel a better sense of reality in the filmand how it is being dramatized. The more
a documentary draws attention to its self, the further it gets from what it represents (Nichols,
1994: 97). The function of this role gives a descriptive explanation of how the film is being
constructed: performance penetrate every aspect of our social life; therefore, it is essential to...

Advantages Of European Colonisation
This essay reviews the economic advantages that European metropolitan powers gained through
colonisation and the extent to which this process was detrimental to said colonies economies. This
essay largely focusses on the empire of Britain and the colonies in Africa, India, North and South
America. In the first section of this text, the economic advantages to the European metropolitan
state of colonisation will be outlined, focussing on the improvements to international tradeand the
acquisition of cheap resources via extracting them from their colonies. The second part of this essay

Furthermore, this essay discusses the standard development model or development policies it refers
to the group of four policies: mass education, creating a national market, erecting an external tariff
and creating a banking system as discussed in (Allen, 2011, pp. 41 43). This essay argues that
colonisation was economically beneficial to the colonialist powers through improving the
metropolitan state s international trade and giving them access to cheap resources. Furthermore,
this essay argues that colonisation was economically detrimental to colonies due to both the short
term impacts of deindustrialisation and longer term impacts of limiting development by limiting the
use of the standard development model and creating economies characterised by inequality.
However, this essay acknowledges that some colonies did benefit but they were largely the
exception due to their high European population i.e. the US.
One of the economic advantages of colonisation to European metropolitan state is that it enabled
them to improve their international trade. This was achieved through two main routes: restricting
colonies to only trading with them and dominating the market of certain

Teach Nursery Rhymes
ursery rhymes are a fun way to use your imagination and a wonderful way to teach your child how
to read, listen, and speak. Nursery rhyme activities are wonderful in teaching children at a party or
in the classroom. Here are some great tips for teaching nursery rhymes:
Glow in the dark stars can be used to light up a dark room for Hey Diddle, Diddle. You can create
a cow jumping over the moon and when the lights go out, everyone will be reminded of this
nursery rhyme. The glow in the dark stars are a great way to set the mood for nighttime when you
are reading other nursery rhymes to your child.

Meerkats
Meerkats: Standing Tall
Steven Fetherolf
Strayer University
Introduction
Standing tall, the small animal scans the sky for predators, his neck extended and head swiveling
side to side, ever diligent in the search for anything that may prove a threat to his group of fellow
meerkats. At his fullest height, he barely reaches 12 , the average of an adult male in his species.
What is this strange animal, looking similar to a mongoose or an elongated squirrel and sporting
black bandit markings around its eyes that are vaguely reminiscent of a raccoon? What does anyone
know of this incongruous, oft overlooked creature, whose comparable significance to more exotic
animals is virtually unknown? If you have watched the television channel ... Show more content on

This tolerance to venom ensures that the meerkat has little competition for its diet and further
allows them to maintain a steady, plentiful supply. Due to the harsh, water scarce deserts in which
meerkats live, finding adequate water supplies is nearly impossible and when present, water is
dominated by larger animals that consider meerkats to be a meal. Therefore, the meerkat must make
use of available moisture and obtains its requirements primarily through its diet.
It has been observed that a gang of meerkats will inhabit underground burrows consisting of
numerous entrance and exit holes, multiple sleeping and birthing chambers, and having
hundreds of feet of tunnels branching off in several directions, which give them the ability to
escape predators who invade their homes. An average gang s burrow may have well over fifteen
separate dens and it should be noted that the number of areas provide them the opportunity to
rotate their use every three to four weeks. This rotation is a result of parasite (ticks, ants, fleas)
overload, making living conditions both unsafe and unsanitary. Once the parasitic levels have
reached a reasonable level, meerkats will re inhabit the dens. At least one chamber within the
burrow is reserved as a bathroom, or litter box, serving as a safe place for relief of bodily functions.
It is extremely unsafe for a meerkat to exit the burrow at night to relieve themselves, so having a

Superbowl Commercial Analysis
The Superbowl Commercial I thought was good was the one with Antman and the Hulk. In this
commercial Antman had a mini coke and the Hulk was chasing Antman for it. They both
stopped on a buildings roof and the Hulk told Antman that he wanted it. Antman gave the mini
coke to the Hulk and he could not get it open because his fingers were to big. Antman jumped
onto the coke and opened it for him. Antman took a drop of it from the air and drank it and the
Hulk drank the rest. In this commercial they were trying to get people to buy mini coke. The
point of theis commercial is that no one is to big to have a mini coke or a normal sized coke. I
liked this commercial because I like the Hulk and I think alot of other people do too. I think that
they also could have used a regular coke also. I think this because now alot of people might just
buy mini coke not regular coke. That might be a problem for them because they are now going to
have to make another commercial for regular sized coke so that people start buying both.... Show

little kids like the Hulk. I think they used both the Hulk and Antman because if someone does not
like the Hulk Antman is there so they can watch him and the other way around for the people who
don t like Antman. Also if there are people who don t like neither Antman or the Hulk the
commercial is about coke so that might also make them want to watch

Essay on Customer Relationship Management
Today, customer relationship management is very important to the business world. Most of the
companies established a department and the programs to manage their relationship with the
customers. Customer relationship management (CRM) is a business strategy which designed to
help a company to understand and look forward to the needs of its potential and current customers
(Anderson Stang, 2000). Customer data is being collected in several different areas of the
company, stored in a central database, analyzed, and distributed to key points (Anderson Stang,
2000).The business world once was product centric , the companies just provided what they could

The merging of the customer data from sales and the call center interactions has created the more
informed interactions with the customer (Petersen, 2004). The concept rang with the user
organizations and mergers and acquisitions created a host of software that the vendors claimed to
have an integrated set of capabilities that became known as customer relationship management
(Petersen, 2004). Companies wanted to learn more about each and every individual customer and
use the information to effectively take care of and manage their relationships, and yet increased
customer satisfaction and profit.
There are several objectives that the customer relationship management is being implemented, such
as customer identification, customer differentiation, customer interaction and personalization
(Peppers, 1998). First, it is very important for a company if it able to identify its customers.
Different companies offer different products and services which may not satisfy all customers. The
costs and efforts of acquiring new customers can be reduced and focused when the company finds
out the customers who are its potential customers. For example, e mail distribution or mailing
services can be used if the company has the customers profile. Next, the company can use the
services to differentiate its products with others. The company may sell or provide the similar
products with the other

The Mitchell Museum Of The American Indian Essay
The Mitchell Museum of the American Indian is located at 3001 Central Street in Evanston,
Illinois. The museum s main purpose is not only to educate the public about American Indians,
but also to deconstruct stereotypes and give tribal members something along the lines of a safe
place where they are welcome to embrace their ethnicity. One factor that showcases the
information I previously stated is the fact that tribal members have free admission into the
museum. Another way the museum salutes the ethnicity of American Indians is by
commemorating Native individuals alive today. Names of famous Native Americans are
displayed along with their contributions to the ethnic group. One of the people displayed is
Sarah Deer, who is a professor and lawyer that fought for Tribal Jurisdiction. Upon arrival, I was
informed that the museum is divided by Tribes and the regions in which each tribe was located.
The museum is divided into Alaska/Canada, Northwest Coast, Southwest, Plains, and Woodlands.
The reason I think it is divided this way is so that every person who visits has the ability to learn
about each region of tribes separately. It is easy to make assumptions that Native Americans were
all the same, but the truth is that they were all unique. Each tribe has their own customs, clothing,
food, and ways of life. Another captivating aspect of the museum are their display cases, filled with
pottery and artifacts of each tribe. The Alaska/Canada region includes tribes like the

Election Process In The United States
The election process in the United States is very complex and has many different influences that
affect this process tremendously. The United States greatly depends on political parties, interest
groups, and media in the election process.
The role of the political parties is very important in elections. Political parties are groups of
individuals who have similar interests and nominate candidates in order to win elections. Political
parties also focus on controlling elections. There are three parts of a political party and each
component is vital to their goal of controlling elections. First, there is the party organization. These
are the party s leaders. The role of the party organization is to select candidates, build platforms,

The role of the media is to report the goals and objectives of the political parties. This is crucial
for candidates and parties because it is how most or all of their ideas are shown to the public.
Media, such as social media, bring politicians and candidates closer to their potential voters and
give them a closer, more personal relationship with the citizens of the state or country. However,
despite the rapid growth of social media, the news and print media are still the leading and most
important sources in political elections. (http://epthinktank.eu). Because social media is so relevant
in our generation it is very important that the media is unbiased when reporting about politics

Abstract conceptualization is when we come to a decision about what we would do differently next
time. The way we would come to a decision is through further studying or staff development and
reading the right literature.
Active experimentation is the conclusion of our abstract conceptualization stage and provides the
platform that we can plan our changes. Once we have administered these changes we can then start
the cycle again and have some new concrete experiences.
Kolb also described how Lewin s action research and T group training in laboratories was
influenced by the concept of feedback that was used by electrical engineers. This feedback process
involved concrete experience; observations and reflections; formation of abstract concepts and
generalizations; and testing implications of concepts in new situations . The similarities with Kolb

Napoleon s Ideals
How have historians tried to evaluate the ultimate goal of Napoleon I, Emperor of the French?
With such a variety of perspectives, there is no single theory that can fully answer the breadth of
the question. Instead, kaleidoscopes of opinions that span centuries from Napoleon s time to
contemporary research give us the best analysis of his ambitions and overall goals. No matter the
era, historian s opinions of Napoleon shift between admiring his achievements, in varying contexts
of military victories, reorganizing governmental systems, or establishing civil codes, to criticizing
his personal lust for power culminating in his assumption of the title of emperor. This essay will

In addition to Mansel, Frederik C. Schneid writes about Napoleon s ambition in using his power

government and his abilities as a general. For instance, he elaborates: [Napoleon] pursued an
imperium sine fine, an empire without end, and his inability to formulate a coherent political
system to consolidate his position of European hegemony condemned him to rule over a Europe in
constant strife with his regime. He makes the point that Napoleon s desire for glory and sweeping

crucial variables that effect Napoleon s motivation to achieve his ultimate

Homeschooling Disadvantages
George Bernard Shaw, an influential Irish writer, once said, My schooling not only failed to teach
me what it professed to be teaching but prevented me from being educated to an extent which
infuriates me when I think of all I might have learned at home by myself. Many parents have
latched onto Shaw s beliefs and have made the audacious decision to home educate. Currently, there
are approximately 1,642,027 homeschooled children in the U.S.A. alone. Home educating is an
alternative to mainstream public schooling, and it is performed within the home through
curriculums, co ops, or online educationsystems. Homeschoolingis advantageous because
homeschooled children are proven to perform better academically, they can avoid inimical
mainstream schoolsituations, and parents can specialize curriculum in the best interest of their child
individually.
First and foremost, when a student has a positive environment to be surrounded in, they are able to
perform better academically. To start, when children are homeschooled, they continuously have
access to highly encouraging parents who push them to do their best. In an article by Johnna Burns,
Meehan and Stephenson stated that kids tend to achieve greatly as homeschoolers because the
parents are highly encouraging. They also accomplish more socially and academically because
adults typically view their children as advanced in comparison to other kids, causing children to
live up to that expectation (7). Because parents see their

The DГ©tente During The Cold War
DГ©tente is a French word that refers to the time during the Cold war that tensions between
America and the USSR cooled down. This cooling period began around 1971 and took full effect
when President Richard M. Nixon visited the secretary general of the Soviet Communist party,
Leonid I. Brezhnev, in Moscow, May 1972. Both countries were shocked by the Vietnam War, and
found that the arms race was too expensive causing DГ©tente, this time of low tensions. Though
the dГ©tente did not end the Cold War, it increased communications between the 2 nations and

The ABM treaty regulated antiballistic missiles. This treaty limited each side to only one ABM

Interim Agreement reduced each side s number of ICBMs (intercontinental Ballistic Missile) and

Religious Motives For The Age Of Exploration
The age of exploration was an age of discovery and trade which started in the late 15yh century
and ended in the 18th century. During this time the discovery of the new world and new trade
routes led to large steps in economic change and growth in Europe. Explorers motives for
discovery were strongly rooted in both economic growth and religious beliefs. However, Religion
was not so much of a motivator as it was a way of justification for the atrocities committed by
European explorers in the name of personal economic gains. Explorers and slave traders alike
claimed that they were relieving the natives of their natural bestial tendencies, when in fact they
were simply justifying their cruelty and torment of the indigenous people for the economic
expansion of Europe.
Explores and enslavers alike knew their actions in enslaving the indigenous peoples of Africa where
deplorable, however, they continued them due to the believed justification of their actions through
religious motives. The explorers and enslavers convinced themselves that their actions were saving
the natives. The religion they believed justified their actions. They convinced themselves that they
were saving these natives from eternal damnation and showing them the true path, the path of
Christianity and of Jesus. Zurara (map maker and historian who lived during the beginning of the
age of exploration) writes about seeing the suffering of the African slaves. He talks about the visible

Hemp produced more durable fibres than stinging nettles or flax, and made it ideal for use in
ropes, nets, and canvas. This feature was all the more supplemented by the method of
cultivation. If hemp was sown close together, the individual plants needed to compete with each
other for light. As such, they would be forced to grow taller than their competition, resulting in
long stems high in cellulose. As England s navy grew, so too did the demand for hemp. In 1533,
King Henry VIII compelled landlords to set aside 1/240th of their tillable land to the growing of
hemp; thereby ensuring an adequate supply of fibre. Elizabeth I increased the production yet
again, and even went as far as to impose a fine of ВЈ5 (around $2000 USD) on any eligible
landlord who refused to grow it.
Eventually, however, the demand had increased to the extent that the British Isles were no longer
able to supply an adequate volume of hemp. Indeed, this was one of the main forces behind the
British drive to colonize new lands. Its hardiness and ease of cultivation made it ideal for growth
in the colonies. Moreover, the ships that transported supplies and protected these colonies also
increased the demand. After countless months of travel these ships would need repair. On average,

they tell in their music. Many times the stories are speaking of hardships in life and crimes
committed. Their lyrics are significantly influential enough to have caused people to commit crimes
such as robbery, violence, and even murder.
According to Marvin D. Jones a University of Miami graduate and author of Fear of a Hip hop
Planet: America s New Dilemma, stated Chicago youth Derrion Albert was brutally killed by gang
members, many blamed rap music...hip hop music has been demonized not merely as black noise
but as a root cause of crime and violence(Jones 59). This provides a specific example of why and
how rap music has negatively impacted society, enough for them to kill a young man. He also
states that Gangsta rap, a type of rap music featuring aggressive lyrics, often with reference to gang
violence, is mostly considered black noise . He uses this term to provide an illustration that African
Americans are predominantly at the top of this rap violence.
Furthermore, rap music plays the role for urban youth in mainstream America. It has evolved
throughout the past three decades, in which rap fashion has changed along with it as well. Dating

Essay on Massachusetts Bay Colony
The government of the Massachusetts Bay Colony was simultaneously theocratic, democratic,
oligarchic, and authoritarian in different ways. The Puritans founded the Massachusetts Bay
Colony in 1628 and wanted a well established government, but they ended up mixing all of these
together. This colony was important because it was one of the first provincial and true governments
to be introduced into the colonies. It also provided an example to other colonies to base their
governments on.
The Massachusetts Bay Colony can be said to have been partly theocratic based on a couple of
reasons. For example, the Puritans believed that they had a covenant with God to build a society
that would be a model for humankind. This shows partly theocracy ... Show more content on

This control from a small group of people may have been what the people thought was the right
thing to do at the time, but it was somewhat why they had come to the New World in the first
place was to get rid of a single person ruling everyone.
Last but not least the government of the Massachusetts Bay Colony was partly authoritarian for
many reasons. The colony favored a strict set of rules and taxes and stuck to them. This shows
the authoritarian government. The Governor set the taxes and laws based on the will of the
church and what was the right thing to do. They even had strict rules about kissing in public, and
various other inappropriate things considered to be wrong by the church. Some states were
nicknamed after the color of the paper that the laws were printed on. The irony of this is that the
people wanted to live an easier life with more freedom from the government and religion, but then
proceeded to promote and carry out repressive laws such as kissing in public.
As you can see the Massachusetts Bay Colony was very diverse in its form of government and
how the colony was run. Some people say it consists of a mix of all of these forms of governments
(theocracy, democracy, oligarchy, and authoritarian) when in fact the government was one of a
kind and very influential to other colonies. It helped other colonies because it helped them decided

Ayn Rand s The Fountainhead And Atlas Shrugged
Ayn Rand was a novelist. She was born in Russia, but didn t like the way society worked there,
so she packed her bags and moved to the States, New York to be exact. She is a widely known
author of many books. Anthem was just one of her creation, others named The Fountainhead
and Atlas Shrugged. Anthem has multiple rules and controls which are in place to cut down on
crime, also have an controlled society, and lastly to make sure that nobody looks like an outcast.
First, the rules are in place so that it cuts down crime. Having everyone follow the rules will keep
the crime rates low. Having a lot of laws in place will make it that everyone will act like each
other. Crimes are going to happen in every society, but in this novel, the crimes are lower, because
there are so many rules to prevent crimes that could later occur. Also in this society, there are
punishments, like every society. In Anthem the punishments are more extreme than in a normal
society. The rules are way more strict than in our society. The crime rate in Anthem is lower than in
our society. The reason for that is that the laws that follow makes them act different than we would

Managing Diversity in the United States Army Essay
The United States Army consists of soldiers from many diverse cultures. Citizenship is not a
requirement to join the Army, so people enlist from across the United States as well as from
many countries around the world. The Army has its own unique culture that is a conglomeration
of the many cultures that make up its population. Each new soldier is expected to adapt to this
new culture and integrate as a member of a larger team. Helping new soldiers make this
adaptation as quickly as possible and with few difficulties is a challenge for the leaders of new
soldiers throughout the Army. The primary challenge for leaders in the Army is taking a group of

10). The Army does little to understand the values or cultures of new recruits as the authors
suggest. Instead, leaders try to impose the Army s own values onto new soldiers. One of the
first requirements in basic training is to memorize the Army s seven values: loyalty, duty,
respect, selfless service, honor, integrity and personal courage. These values are reinforced in
training throughout the Army and are meant to supplant whatever values were already present.
Haircuts and clothing become uniform in an attempt to strip away a soldier s individuality.
Communication with families is very limited during initial training. It becomes harder for
anyone to identify with his or her own culture as time passes. As cruel as this might sound, it is a
necessary step in developing soldiers that place the mission first. During war, it is crucial that
soldiers react to orders without thinking. Cultural biases can interfere with this. Many cultures
place a lot of importance on respecting elders. People are expected to defer to someone who is
older. This presents a problem in the Army when a leader has soldiers who are older than him.
The leader s orders must be obeyed without hesitation. By establishing a new values system, the
problem of varying cultures is minimized. Years ago it was said that if the Army wanted you to

Jonah s Attempt For Escape His Divine Mission
Jonah s Attempt to Escape His Divine Mission The book of Jonah is a fascinating one. It is full
of intrigue, suspense, questions, and unbelievable events that let the discerning believer in on the
awesome power of God s correction, His love, and especially His grace. For some reason Jonah,
though a prophet of God who seemingly was willing to follow the Lord s commands, did not adopt
the grace attribute of God s character. Jonahwas judgmental, as human beings often are, and he
could not see past the egregious sin of Ninevehin order to understand the grace and the heart of
God. Nineveh was a city saturated with sin. Its inhabitants performed evil deeds in the sight of
God. The Assyrian empire ruled this very important city and all of... Show more content on

He wanted Nineveh totally destroyed. Jonah did not believed that the Ninevites deserved another
chance, possibly because of the ferociousness of their sin, so he decided that he was not going to
bring the prophetic word of God before them. Knowing that his words had the power to change
people s minds, Jonah did not want even the slightest chance of Nineveh repenting to God (Jonah
1:3). Some ministers in modern day would be wise to revisit the book of Jonah. So many refuse to
preach in certain places because they feel the sin is too great, or that God cannot meet the need,
or even that they are not the right person to bring the word to that group of people. They will
claim, as Jonah did, that the people do not deserve mercy; therefore, it is better to run from the
task (and God) than to preach a word that might change the hearts of man. In running from God,
readers can see just how stubborn and steadfast in his convictions Jonah was. He boarded a boat
to Tarshish hoping foolishly to escape the presence of the Lord (Jonah 1:3). This is an interesting
tactic because as a prophet of God, and a very successful prophet at that, Jonah knew that there
was no where he could go to escape God. For the reader, one would do well to remember that God
omnipresent. He is everywhere all the time. He is also omniscient, so he hears every thought that
enters the mind and knows the exact intentions of each person s

Private Military Contractors
If someone were to ask about the United Sates military, a majority of people would be able to
describe it thoroughly; however, what most people do not know is that it is comprised of
mercenaries. Mercenaries, also known as private military contractors, are not an official part of the
United States military; Instead, they are highly skilled soldiers who work independently charging
large amounts of money to terminate enemies. The United Stateshas been hiring Blackwater, which
is a skilled mercenary group, to enter countries and eliminate enemies. The United Sates of America

Mercenaries need to be stopped being used because they allow governments to do whatever they
please without getting caught. Gilsinan argues, both [drones and private military companies]
should be part of the same category, because they allow national governments to get involved in
fighting without actually having citizens do it. And that creates moral hazard for policymakers,
because it lowers the barriers of entry into conflict (Gilsinan). When Private military contractors are
used they break any established laws to complete their mission. Governments use these contractors
because they realize that they can get away with breaking international laws by having the
mercenaries break them. This is atrocious because if the United States decides to keep using
contractors and these private contractors continue to break laws then conflict will appear. When
other governments begin to see hired contractors doing what they please they will begin consulting
with mercenaries as well. Borger analyzes, When the United States started to rely on private
military companies, it unleashed this new globalized industry of mercenaries. That s why we ve
seen a resurgence of them (Linehan). Mercenaries make war extremely easy because they can do
what they want. When other countries begin to see that the United States relies on mercenaries,
they will commence to hire them as

The California Dream Is Dead
The California Dream is Dead
The California Dream? More like a California Miracle. James Rawls, writer of the article
California: A Place, A People, A Dream is an optimist who believes there is still hope for the
California Dream (Rawls 14). The article was written 1984. It is not applicable to today s self
destructive California. With the population of over 38 million people, California is barely holding
itself together at this point. Even investment in the young Californians education is too costly for
the government. And with less people pursuing education, this leads to less degrees. Fewer
degrees translates to a lower employment rate. A lower employment rate means a weaker
economy. California is in the midst of a very self destructive chain that will eventually lead to
California s end. The California Dream is now a California Miracle (Johnson Ahorlu, Alvarez, and
Hurtado 24). It is too late for attempting to revive the California Dream, as now California is in self
destruction due to overpopulation and California being unable to support so many people
educationally.
California: A Place, A People, A Dream by James Rawls is an optimistic article describing
California and its ongoing success despite of its countless setbacks. Rawls claims that it is through
the pursuit of dreams that Californians continuously save California. He also proposes that the
California Dream has now become something more of paradoxes. What particularly stands out is the

The 4 Week Incidence, Timing And Predictors Of Ischemic...
Background and purpose: To quantify the 4 week incidence, timing and predictors of ischemic
stroke after trauma in a population based young cohort.
Methods: We electronically identified trauma patients ( 30 days apart could be considered
independent. As a secondary analysis, we calculated stroke incidence including all cases with a
stroke ICD 9 code in order to provide a useful comparison with studies using ICD 9 stroke
diagnoses for the outcome. For trauma patients who suffered a stroke, we graphically demonstrated
time to stroke after trauma using Kaplan Meier failure curves, with trauma as the time of origin and
stroke as the failure event, right censoring at death or four weeks after trauma.
For the case control study, we used logistic regression to calculate odds ratios (OR) and 95%
confidence intervals (CI) as an estimate of stroke risk. In order to determine whether stroke risk
varied differentially by location of injury, we first examined each location individually. We then
modeled the association between stroke and each injury location with adjustment for age, race, sex
and multisystem trauma (given that the composite multisystem trauma variable does not specify
injury location).
Results: From a population of 34 million enrolled in KPNC over the 15 year study period, we
identified 989,333 patients who had 1,308,009 emergency department encounters or admissions to
the hospital for trauma. Patients contributed a median of one trauma encounter (interquartile range

negative reactions from extended familymembers, difficulty in interacting with the school, and

The article describes the results of these other studies as being inconsistent. This is because the
other studies state that there are higher levels of stress in families with children having disabilities
than those that do not. A study conducted by Dyson found that despite higher degrees of stress,
families of children with developmental disabilities experienced the same level of family
cohesion, maintenance of the family system, and emphasis on personal growth as families of
nondisabled children (Dyson, 2010). These studies regarding how disabilities affect the family
have conflicting results therefore Dyson wanted to know if similar results would be found in a
study conducted with families that have learning disabled children. The study that was conducted
tested the hypotheses that having a child that is learning disabled will have a negative effect on
family life and on siblings in particular. The study was conducted through the use of focus groups
which conducted in depth group interviews and consisted of ten families represented by eleven

Persuasive Speech On Australia Day

This is a speech directed at the people of Australia, it is to convince you, that by celebrating
Australia day on the 26th of January, you are celebrating the day that European prisoners came to
this country and stole it from the aboriginals.
I want you to put you into a story. Imagine you are living on the land with your family and
friends. By day you hunt wild animals and travel. And at nights you gather around the campfire
and tell stories. You meet up with other groups of people and traveling with them. Imagine
swimming and running and creating friendships. Imagine that your people have been doing this
for thousands of years. Now imagine strange people with different colour skin to you land on
beaches, in big wooden contraptions. You offer them food and water and show them how to
live of your land. Then they attack you and kill your friends. More and more of these strange
people come and they take all your water from your springs. They sell you pretty trinkets for the
meat that you spent all day hunting. The people wage war on you and massacre everyone
around you and take you as their slave. As you grow up and have kids, the strange people take
your kids, and you never see them again. You are now in your later years of life. Strange people
have completely settled over your land. They have beaten and murdered all your friends. They

Upon achieving power in 1933, Hitler and the Nazi state began to implement increasingly severe

meanwhile the creation of Hitler s new man was giving Germany a sense of destiny, the Jewish life
was being constricted and erased. But what exactly was this idea of a new man? The ultimate
attitude behind this new achievement was to further purify the Aryan race. One of the first steps
towards purity were the Aryan passports, but these were just the beginning of a much broader effort

The Importance Of Looking Before You Leap Essay
The Importance of Looking Before You Leap Media portrays romantic relationships as a
whirlwind of emotions that ends in a happily ever after in the course of a few days; children s
movies are a larger perpetrator of this idea. But how accurate is this to real life relationships?
Research, including John Van Epp s book How to Avoid Falling in Love with a Jerk, tells us that a
healthy relationship is built on more than the initial emotions we feel. In chapter one of How to
Avoid Falling in Love with a Jerk, Epp discusses the importance of the love is blind phenomenon
where we either one, don t know how to identify predictors of relationship dissatisfaction or two,
become so attached to someone that we minimize predictors in the belief that things will get better.
The love is blind phenomenon causes discourse between the heart and mind, two things that need to
be harmonious in order for a healthy relationship. Epp also discusses the predictors of
(dis)satisfaction in order to find a partner that complements us and identify things that could result
in potential problems in the relationship. For the first chapter, I found the predictors to be the most
interesting point in this chapter. Epp identified five categories that seemed to play a large role in
marital satisfaction and they are compatibility potential, relationship skills, patterns from other
relationships, family patterns and background, and character and conscience traits. Compatibility
potential is the similarities

The Wild West Of America
THE WILD WEST OF AMERICA The Wild West of America, or what historian referred to as the
Old West, since the 1800 s men and women all wanted to move to the west to start a new life,
have land, find gold and silver ,and to escape the law hence the Wild West. The West of the U.S.
started off from the west of the Mississippi all the way to the west coast. With all the open land
and the people in the west, legends and stories are being made throughout time, and these stories are
for the future generation to hear about the adventurous time of the Wild Wild West. From the
beginning of time, people have told stories of their adventures, survival, the crazy gunfights, and the
danger they been through in the west. Most of these stories and tales starts off at campfires, where
is told to friends and families about their experience. Sometimes these tales were true, others
exaggerations, and occasionally nothing more than some crazy tales which seems too good or too
outrageous to be true. The more interesting part of these tales were passed along from friends to
friends and from one generation to the next, and along the way the tales grows stronger to the point
they became legends and urban myths. With all the story tellings through the years, it becomes a
small part of history and then in popular culture. Where it turns into music, dance, movies, tv
shows, and cultures. For two centuries the Wild West was molded into the american s culture that

The main behaviour issue that she would like Austin to work on is not speaking out in class.
She would like him to raise his hand before he speaks. In Ms. Walker s class, the students are
encouraged to raise their hand anytime they have something to say, a question to ask, or a
request for the teacher. Since the beginning of the school year, Austin has repeatedly disobeyed

this, but he forgets. He is not a typical bad student. He does not do this simply for the fun of it he

Martin Luther s Impact On The History And Development Of...
Martin Luther: Impact on the history and development of the German language German is a
West Germanic language that is mainly spoken in Central Europe. It is the most widely spoken
and (co ) official language in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, South Tyrol (Italy), the German
speaking Community of Belgium, and Liechtenstein. It is also one of the three official
languages of Luxembourg. German is the second most widely spoken Germanic language, after
English. One of the major languages of the world, German is the first language of about 95
million people worldwide and the most widely spoken native language in the European Union.
German also is the fourth most widely taught non English language in the US (after Spanish,
French and American Sign Language) and third in the EU (after English and French; at lower
secondary level),the second most commonly used scientific language, as well as the fourth most
widely used language on websites (after English, Russian and Japanese). German derives most
of its vocabulary from the Germanic branch of the Indo European language family. A portion of
German words are derived from Latin and Greek, and fewer are borrowed from French and
English. With slightly different standardized variants (German, Austrian, and Swiss Standard
German), German is a pluricentric language. German can be divided into different historical eras,
Old High German (early as 700 1050 A.D.), Middle High German (1050 1350 A.D.), Early New

Diversity Judicial System Analysis
In this essay I will define what is judiciary and be discussing the statement that there is a strong
case for more diverse judiciary. Not only should there be equality of opportunity for those entitled
to apply . I will discuss about the judiciary that reflect the diversity and legal profession as whole,
make reference to the role of the judiciary, their selection, and training.
Judiciary is a system that interprets and execute the laws in the state, the role of the judiciary is
to supervise the conduct of a trial, sole arbiter of legal issues, has the power to deal with civil
cases and decide the result, interpret and clarify the law, has the right to deal with criminal cases
and to sum up to the jury and to pass sentence on those who plead guilty or have been convicted.
For many centuries the House of Lords was the supreme court of appeal for the entire UK in civil
cases and for England, Wales and Northern Ireland in criminal case. There are three types of legal
system in the United Kingdom and these are executive, government and legislature; one each for
England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. There was a time where Scotland, Ireland and later
Northern Ireland retained the Acts of Union in 1707 and 1800.

Athletic Trainer Essay
I had a hard time finding a career. All the careers I came across did not interest me at all. Until a
friend came up with the idea of the career of athletic training. That is when I started my research
and my interest grew greater. Athletic trainers help prevent and treat injuries for people of all
ages. Athletic trainers try to prevent injuries by educating people on how to reduce their risk on
getting injured. Another way Athletic trainers use to prevent injuries is by advising people on the
proper use of equipment. The amount of money you make depends on many occasions. Your
salary depends on your employment settings, level of education, and experience. The average

like speaking at high schools.
The minimum requirement is a bachelor s degree, but most athletic trainers have a doctoral or

and health related courses, like nutrition, physiology, human anatomy, and biomechanics (Bureau of
Labor Statistics pg 2). A teaching certificate is needed if working in a high school. Athletic trainers
have to have good communication and social skills, as well as being organized, inquisitive, and
have a desire to help people. There are a couple of methods Athletic trainers use to advance in
their position. Some switch teams and sports to receive more responsibility or gain a higher
salary. Some sell or go into the marketing business, using their experience to distribute medical
and athletic equipment. Athletic trainers had about 16,300 jobs in the year 2008. 39 percent
were in public and private school, universities, and colleges. 38 percent work in health care like
hospitals, and physician offices. 13 percent worked in fitness and sport centers like gyms and

Management Styles Of Leadership Styles
Literature Review Outline
I.Introduction
a.A key determinant in an organizational success is directly related with the management styles of
leadership. According to Parris Peachey (2013), the key to understanding an organizations success
is to study its leaders. A leader s ability to inspire, motive, and create a strong sense of engagement
and commitment to the organization will determine the success or failure in the attainment of
goals. Transformational, charismatic, and servant leadership are three styles that organizational
leaders might possess. While there is no predetermined best style of leadership, one can describe
leadership and management as situational. The overriding goal of any organization is building a
high performing organization which is paramount for short and long term success (DeGraw Sizoo,
2013). Both the leader and the organization should select the most appropriate style to enhance
organizations probability for effectiveness and attainment of desire goals. Studies have shown when
organizations have the right leadership in place, an organization can have shared vision that is
articulated in a manner where subordinates desire work enthusiastically towards the
accomplishment of the goals (Parris Peachey, 2013).
b.One of the most comprehensive research topics in the area of behavioral science is leadership.

Jack Kevorkian Assisted Suicide Case Study
A serial mercy killer (The Right To Die, 80). This is what some would define what Kevorkian did.
Kevorkian, however does not feel this way. He performs his acts for the greater good in his eyes.
However, he never hesitated to try any other treatments that could result in the patient s improved
health, whether it be antibiotics, or even experimental drug maintenance programs (The Right To
Die, 82). He feels that medically assisted suicideis an essential option to those that are incurable
and dying (The Right To Die, 83). Kevorkian s main concern for his terminal patients was their
comfort and confidence in their decision. He explains the deathhis patient s experienced as being

Cavuto asks Kevorkian what his thoughts are on society diming him as a murderer. His
response was, Well, if I did it with malice aforethought and without the permission, then I would
be a murderer, but they forgot the definition of murderer when they criticized me, because it s so
negative an epithet, that they win by fear. They throw these things out for fear, the same thing
they are doing with the swine flu (Interview With Jack Kevorkian). Here, Kevorkian basically
debunks the entire accusation that he is a murderer. He is saying that the groups that are against
him can call him a murderer, and the people that aren t educated on the whole situation are going
to believe them. If an accusation like that spreads, whether it is technically true or not, that is
going to be put into perspective every time anyone hears the name Jack Kevorkian . It makes his
name a symbol of fear, when, in actuality, the people he murdered were very grateful for his help.
In the same interview, Kevorkian is asked about his religion and his take on death. He tells Cavuto
that he does not believe mythology, he believes we die, then we are gone (Interview With Jack

Four Groups of Malnutrition
According to Jelliffe (1996), Malnutrition is globally defined and distinguished into four subgroups:
Undernutrition: the pathological state resulting from insufficient nutrition intake over a period of
time; Overnutrition: the pathological state caused by excess nutrition intake over an extended
period of time; Specific deficiency: the pathological state resulting from a relative or absolute lack
of an individual nutrient; Imbalance: the pathological state resulting from a disproportion among
nutrients in relation to requirement. (p. 8) Tappenden et al. (2013) stated that regardless of body
mass index, hospitalized patients typically suffer from undernutrition due to a variety of reasons.
These include, but are not limited to: NPO diet order for diagnostic and therapeutic procedures,
inadequate oral food and beverage intake due to illness induced poor appetite, meal disturbances,
inadequate assistance at mealtimes, reduced ability to chew or swallow, unnecessary hold of enteral
feeds due to residuals or drug administration, as well as gastrointestinal symptoms often caused by
medications (Tappenden et al., 2013). Interrupting feeds due to drug administration contributes
significantly to malnutrition in hospitalized patients, as holding feeds can be cumulative and
prolonged, therefore patients often do not receive nor maintain their recommended goal rate,
subsequently compromising their nutritional status (Williams, Leslie, Leen, Mills Dobb, 2013).

Essay about America and the Normandy Invasion
The year was 1944, and the United States had now been an active participant in the war against
Nazi Germany for almost three and a half years. During this time, numerous battles had occurred
which were fought with determination and intensity on both sides. Amongst the many invasions of
World War II, there is one day which stands out more in the minds of many American soldiers than
the others. That day was June 6, 1944, more commonly known as D Day, part of the invasion of
Normandy, known as Operation Overlord. This operation was the largest amphibious assault in
history. It was a day in which thousands of young Americans, who poured onto the beaches of
France, matured faster than they would have ever imagined. They were not prepared for... Show

Troops, armour, and equipment arrivals were timed to the minute. Naval barrage landed first on
the beach at 6:30 a.m., immediately followed by thirty two light assault tanks known as DD
tanks to further subdue fortified positions and provide cover for the oncoming troops (These
were held on large freight boats known as LCTs). In the wake of this attack came the American
2nd Battalion, 8th Infantry in twenty Higgens boats, another type of transport designed to hold a
thirty man team. They were followed by the 1st Battalion, 8th Infantry, bringing engineers and
naval demolition teams in thirty two more Higgens boats.6 Wave after wave of troops and
equipment, containing bulldozers, and the light and mobile Sherman Tank (see appendix B)
continued to arrive. Before the assaults began, the planners, including Allied Commander
Dwight D. Eisenhower, hoped everything would stick to the precise schedule. This hope was
not a reality, as some craft landed too late, others too early, and some off course as far as a
kilometre south of the target. There were many factors which resulted in the wronging of the time
table. Tides, wind, waves, and a thick cover of smoke were all partially responsible for the trouble,
while the largest factor were the mines placed just off

Stereotypes Of Ethnic Entrepreneurs
As with female entrepreneurs, ethnic entrepreneurs also face huge stereotypes that affect their
enterprises. They include the stereotypes that ethnic entrepreneurs only enter markets that need low
capital and education levels, are on a small scale with high labor and very little value. It is also
commonly thought that ethnic entrepreneurs only start their own businesses because they do not
have a chance being employed, and therefore start their organizations to make ends meet. So the
common generalization about ethnic entrepreneurs is that they are under educated people who
started their own organizations because they could not get gainful employment. Blanchflower et al.

Limiting ethnic entrepreneurs to particular industries, or excluding them from white dominated
industries such as construction, which is known to be exclusive to a network affects the rate at
which ethnic entrepreneurs break out of their expected industry into others. They find it difficult to
break into the exclusive bond or network created by among the industry members after many years
of segregation patterns (Geagin and Imani, 1994). Ethnic entrepreneurs therefore face a lot of
discriminatory encounters when they venture into the industries and therefore do not survive most
of the time. Although much research has been launched into women entrepreneurship and
immigrant and minority entrepreneurship as separate topics, there does not seem to be much focus
on entrepreneurs who fit into both categories, the ethnic female entrepreneur. This profile covers a
woman of ethnic background who launches an organization to create innovative solutions for profit.
Owing to the fact that they belong to two categories that face the most challenges in entrepreneurial
pursuits, it is necessary to find out how their special circumstance acts as a barrier to their

Money, Bond, Returns, And Amortization Schedule
Money, Bond Returns, and Amortization Schedule The flow of funds within financial markets is
stimulated by the money, bond and mortgage markets. A money market is the trading of highly
liquid financial instruments with a duration of one year or less and includes the trading of Treasury
bills. Furthermore, bonds are long term investments, with a duration greater than 1 year and are
issued by corporations and the U.S. government. In addition, the mortgagemarket creates loans to
finance the real estate market. Once mortgages are issued on a property, banking institutions
securitize the mortgages and sell them on the secondary market (CSU Global, 2016). Due to the
scale of these three markets they have an extensive impact on the monetary supply and economy.
Treasury Bills Money market securities are short term instruments created by governments and
corporations to obtain short term funding. Treasury bills (T bills) are common instruments used
in the money market and are issued by the U.S. government. Moreover, T bills are used by the
government to refinance maturing debt and to cover budget deficits. The Federal Reserve also
uses T bills as a fundamental technique to implement monetary policy (Saunders Cornett, 2015).
If a one purchases a T bill that is 90 days from maturity, for $9,970 and with a face value of
$10,000, the quoted yield is 1.200%, the bond equivalent yield is 1.2201% and the EAR is 1.222%

agencies to protect children from being victimized in their surroundings. Such exposure at an early
age may cause negative future consequences in teenage years into adulthood when treatment is
neglected or prevented. Emotional abused, maltreatment, sexual abuse, are categories of physical

Examples Of Evil In Othello
Pure evil is like a cancerous plague that harms all those who come upon it. In the tragic play
Othello by William Shakespeare, Iago is a character that represents pure evil a malignant cancer to
all those around him. His evil is exposed through his choice of words, his ability to manipulate
people, and his opportunistic ways.
First, Iago s evil is shown through his choice of words that demonstrate his vulgarity and his
sinister intentions. Iago s language is extremely base and forward; he does show any remorse or
sympathy in any situation. For example, Desdemona has recently married Othello; when Desdemona
s father, Brabantio, hears the news he becomes enraged. To make the situation much worse, Iago

An example of his evil imagery is when he says, It is engendered. Hell and night/Must bring this
monstrous birth to the worlds light. (Act 1, sc.iii, lines 396 397). His voracity is seen in this
quote; he calls upon hell and night to give birth to his evil plan. The way he uses the word, hell
and night, associate him with evil which derives from the word devil. Another example that
proves Iago s evil imagery is when he says, Divinity of hell!/When devils will the blackest sins
put on. (Act 2,sc.iii, lines 340 341). In this quote, Iago, once again calls upon hell but this time
describes it as divine. Iago s sinister thoughts are of evil essence because he calls upon the
blackest of sins to aid him in his evil quest. Thus, Iago s choice of words prove his sinister
intentions; which also
include his ability to manipulate people.
Iago s evil is also demonstrated by his ability to manipulate people and situations through his
words and through his actions. The first victim to fall under Iago s manipulative spell is the half
witted Roderigo. Iago recognizes that Roderigo is consumed by lust for Desdemona and would
go to the extremes to make her his own. Iago convinces Roderigo that the only way to win
Desdemona s heart is to give her money; ...Put money in thy purse... (Act 1, sc. iii, line 339).
However, Iago is able to manipulate Roderigo s infatuation and make himself a profit by taking the
money intended for Desdemona and

Negative Influence Of The 2nd Amendment (NRA)
The NRA has managed to become a powerful gun lobby and influencer of the gun conversation
through their deliberate propaganda that targets and in many ways lies about the 2nd Amendment.
In 1977, through a shakeup within the NRA, the organization went from a group of hunters and
sportsmen to a strong advocate for the right to bear arms. Catering to strong gunadvocates, the NRA
was able to become a very powerful and influential organization. By aggressively advocating for gun
rights, and preying on Republican congressmen with many pro gun constituents, they were able to
build up a foundation of support, which they have now expanded into one of the most powerful
lobbies in Washington. Nowadays, they promote the 2nd Amendment, but only the parts... Show

From 1975 until the DC vs Heller ruling in 2008, the Firearms Control Regulations Act was in
place, which banned residents of DC from owning handguns, automatic firearms, or high
capacity semiautomatic weapons. Since then, very little gun legislation has been passed at all.
In fact, since the horrific Newtown shooting that occurred in 2012, not a single piece of
legislation has been passed on guns. While conservatives might feel sorry for the victims, they
realize that many conservatives, like Joe the Plumber (the Ohio workingman who gained
prominence in the 2008 election), who once said, Your dead kids...don t trump my constitutional
rights , would stop voting for them if they tried to implement gun control policies. Many on the
right claim that gun control is an effort not just to regulate guns, but to completely ban them.
This is an effective scare tactic used to get their constituents angry at the Democrats. But gun
regulation and gun bans are two very different things. Data shows us that there are certain
groups of people who should never be allowed to own a gun. This includes those who have prior
offenses of violence, those who are mentally ill, suspected terrorists, and people who have
children living in their home. However, there are people who can make a reasonable claim to
needing a gun, and they shouldn t be denied that right. For example, people in very rural areas,
without much access to the protection provided by public safety officials should have the right to
own a gun if they demonstrate they are able to use one properly. Also, hunters and people who
have obtained restraining orders against those who have threatened them with violence might make
a case for their right to own a gun. Most gun control advocates don t want to take away guns from
everyone, they

  • 3. Analysis Of Sergei Eisenstein s The Strike The Strike by Sergei Eisenstein is a 1925 silent film depicting a variety of factory workers in pre Soviet Russia carrying out a strike, and then being suppressed by governmental forces. Eisenstein uses an, at the time, novel editing technique which he entitled the montage of attractions in order to engage and manipulate his viewers attentions. In this critique, the final scene of The Strike, will be examined in order to bring to light the brutal editing, visual techniques, and associations between brutal imagery used by Eisenstein in order to shape his viewers into a state of shock and terror when exposed to the proletariat oppression exhibited in the film. Eisenstein, in his own paper, aptly titled the Montage of Film Attractions, Eisenstein explains his novel technique for creating associations in the viewer of a film s mind by using quick cuts and associations. He defines the concept as, not in fact phenomena that are compared, but chains of associations that are linked to a particular phenomenon in the mind of a particular audience. Hence Eisenstein is saying, simply, that in his opinion that there will be a greater effect psychologically amongst audiences if a film is able to create associations between personal stimuli, which will in create an underlying emotional phenomena. He uses the example of a horror film to explain this concept, A throat is gripped, eyes bulge, knife is brandished, the victim closes his eyes, blood is spattered on a wall, the victim ... According to Bruzzi (2000), performative documentary is a speech act; it both describes and performs an action. A documentary only comes into being as it is performed, and only becomes meaningful as a negotiation between performance and reality. Their role is to make the audience feel a better sense of reality in the filmand how it is being dramatized. The more a documentary draws attention to its self, the further it gets from what it represents (Nichols, 1994: 97). In the first section of this text, the economic advantages to the European metropolitan state of colonisation will be outlined, focussing on the improvements to international tradeand the acquisition of cheap resources via extracting them from their colonies. Furthermore, this essay discusses the standard development model or development policies it refers to the group of four policies: mass education, creating a national market, erecting an external tariff and creating a banking system as discussed in (Allen, 2011, pp. 41 43). This essay argues that colonisation was economically beneficial to the colonialist powers through improving the metropolitan state s international trade and giving them access to cheap resources. Furthermore, this essay argues that colonisation was economically detrimental to colonies due to both the short term impacts of deindustrialisation and longer term impacts of limiting development by limiting the use of the standard development model and creating economies characterised by inequality. However, this essay acknowledges that some colonies did benefit but they were largely the exception due to their high European population i.e. the US. One of the economic advantages of colonisation to European metropolitan state is that it enabled them to improve their international trade. • 8. Meerkats Meerkats: Standing Tall Steven Fetherolf Strayer University Introduction Standing tall, the small animal scans the sky for predators, his neck extended and head swiveling side to side, ever diligent in the search for anything that may prove a threat to his group of fellow meerkats. At his fullest height, he barely reaches 12 , the average of an adult male in his species. What is this strange animal, looking similar to a mongoose or an elongated squirrel and sporting black bandit markings around its eyes that are vaguely reminiscent of a raccoon? What does anyone know of this incongruous, oft overlooked creature, whose comparable significance to more exotic animals is virtually unknown? If you have watched the television channel ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This tolerance to venom ensures that the meerkat has little competition for its diet and further allows them to maintain a steady, plentiful supply. Due to the harsh, water scarce deserts in which meerkats live, finding adequate water supplies is nearly impossible and when present, water is dominated by larger animals that consider meerkats to be a meal. Therefore, the meerkat must make use of available moisture and obtains its requirements primarily through its diet. It has been observed that a gang of meerkats will inhabit underground burrows consisting of numerous entrance and exit holes, multiple sleeping and birthing chambers, and having hundreds of feet of tunnels branching off in several directions, which give them the ability to escape predators who invade their homes. An average gang s burrow may have well over fifteen separate dens and it should be noted that the number of areas provide them the opportunity to rotate their use every three to four weeks. This rotation is a result of parasite (ticks, ants, fleas) overload, making living conditions both unsafe and unsanitary. Once the parasitic levels have reached a reasonable level, meerkats will re inhabit the dens. At least one chamber within the burrow is reserved as a bathroom, or litter box, serving as a safe place for relief of bodily functions. It is extremely unsafe for a meerkat to exit the burrow at night to relieve themselves, so having a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Superbowl Commercial Analysis The Superbowl Commercial I thought was good was the one with Antman and the Hulk. In this commercial Antman had a mini coke and the Hulk was chasing Antman for it. They both stopped on a buildings roof and the Hulk told Antman that he wanted it. Antman gave the mini coke to the Hulk and he could not get it open because his fingers were to big. Antman jumped onto the coke and opened it for him. Antman took a drop of it from the air and drank it and the Hulk drank the rest. In this commercial they were trying to get people to buy mini coke. The point of theis commercial is that no one is to big to have a mini coke or a normal sized coke. I liked this commercial because I like the Hulk and I think alot of other people do too. I think that they also could have used a regular coke also. I think this because now alot of people might just buy mini coke not regular coke. I think they used both the Hulk and Antman because if someone does not like the Hulk Antman is there so they can watch him and the other way around for the people who don t like Antman. Most of the companies established a department and the programs to manage their relationship with the customers. Customer relationship management (CRM) is a business strategy which designed to help a company to understand and look forward to the needs of its potential and current customers (Anderson Stang, 2000). Customer data is being collected in several different areas of the company, stored in a central database, analyzed, and distributed to key points (Anderson Stang, 2000).The business world once was product centric , the companies just provided what they could produce. Companies wanted to learn more about each and every individual customer and use the information to effectively take care of and manage their relationships, and yet increased customer satisfaction and profit. There are several objectives that the customer relationship management is being implemented, such as customer identification, customer differentiation, customer interaction and personalization (Peppers, 1998). First, it is very important for a company if it able to identify its customers. Different companies offer different products and services which may not satisfy all customers. The costs and efforts of acquiring new customers can be reduced and focused when the company finds out the customers who are its potential customers. • 11. The Mitchell Museum Of The American Indian Essay The Mitchell Museum of the American Indian is located at 3001 Central Street in Evanston, Illinois. The museum s main purpose is not only to educate the public about American Indians, but also to deconstruct stereotypes and give tribal members something along the lines of a safe place where they are welcome to embrace their ethnicity. One factor that showcases the information I previously stated is the fact that tribal members have free admission into the museum. Another way the museum salutes the ethnicity of American Indians is by commemorating Native individuals alive today. Names of famous Native Americans are displayed along with their contributions to the ethnic group. One of the people displayed is Sarah Deer, who is a professor and lawyer that fought for Tribal Jurisdiction. Upon arrival, I was informed that the museum is divided by Tribes and the regions in which each tribe was located. The museum is divided into Alaska/Canada, Northwest Coast, Southwest, Plains, and Woodlands. The reason I think it is divided this way is so that every person who visits has the ability to learn about each region of tribes separately. It is easy to make assumptions that Native Americans were all the same, but the truth is that they were all unique. Each tribe has their own customs, clothing, food, and ways of life. Another captivating aspect of the museum are their display cases, filled with pottery and artifacts of each tribe. The Alaska/Canada region includes tribes like the ... Continuing Personal and Professional Development Task 1: The role of a teacher has changed considerably over the years in the past the teacher may have been perceived as being the fountain of all knowledge and the purveyor of information. I would like to think we are still the fountain of all knowledge but the way we deliver our courses has changed considerably. We no longer stand at the front of the class with rows and rows of learners sitting waiting for us to transmit the information to them. As a teacher we are now the facilitator of knowledge. Our job is to guide the learners and allow them to take responsibility for there own learning. We are less likely to have students in rows in front of us and more likely to have ... Abstract conceptualization is when we come to a decision about what we would do differently next time. The way we would come to a decision is through further studying or staff development and reading the right literature. Active experimentation is the conclusion of our abstract conceptualization stage and provides the platform that we can plan our changes. Once we have administered these changes we can then start the cycle again and have some new concrete experiences. Kolb also described how Lewin s action research and T group training in laboratories was influenced by the concept of feedback that was used by electrical engineers. This feedback process involved concrete experience; observations and reflections; formation of abstract concepts and generalizations; and testing implications of concepts in new situations . The similarities with Kolb s learning cycle (Beard, Colin; Wilson, John P.. With such a variety of perspectives, there is no single theory that can fully answer the breadth of the question. No matter the era, historian s opinions of Napoleon shift between admiring his achievements, in varying contexts of military victories, reorganizing governmental systems, or establishing civil codes, to criticizing his personal lust for power culminating in his assumption of the title of emperor. For instance, he elaborates: [Napoleon] pursued an imperium sine fine, an empire without end, and his inability to formulate a coherent political system to consolidate his position of European hegemony condemned him to rule over a Europe in constant strife with his regime. He makes the point that Napoleon s desire for glory and sweeping military victories were the cause behind his goal of conquering the continent of Europe. Homeschooling Disadvantages George Bernard Shaw, an influential Irish writer, once said, My schooling not only failed to teach me what it professed to be teaching but prevented me from being educated to an extent which infuriates me when I think of all I might have learned at home by myself. Many parents have latched onto Shaw s beliefs and have made the audacious decision to home educate. Currently, there are approximately 1,642,027 homeschooled children in the U.S.A. alone. Home educating is an alternative to mainstream public schooling, and it is performed within the home through curriculums, co ops, or online educationsystems. Homeschoolingis advantageous because homeschooled children are proven to perform better academically, they can avoid inimical mainstream schoolsituations, and parents can specialize curriculum in the best interest of their child individually. First and foremost, when a student has a positive environment to be surrounded in, they are able to perform better academically. To start, when children are homeschooled, they continuously have access to highly encouraging parents who push them to do their best. In an article by Johnna Burns, Meehan and Stephenson stated that kids tend to achieve greatly as homeschoolers because the parents are highly encouraging. They also accomplish more socially and academically because adults typically view their children as advanced in comparison to other kids, causing children to live up to that expectation (7). During this time the discovery of the new world and new trade routes led to large steps in economic change and growth in Europe. Explorers motives for discovery were strongly rooted in both economic growth and religious beliefs. However, Religion was not so much of a motivator as it was a way of justification for the atrocities committed by European explorers in the name of personal economic gains. Explorers and slave traders alike claimed that they were relieving the natives of their natural bestial tendencies, when in fact they were simply justifying their cruelty and torment of the indigenous people for the economic expansion of Europe. Explores and enslavers alike knew their actions in enslaving the indigenous peoples of Africa where deplorable, however, they continued them due to the believed justification of their actions through religious motives. The explorers and enslavers convinced themselves that their actions were saving the natives. The religion they believed justified their actions. They convinced themselves that they were saving these natives from eternal damnation and showing them the true path, the path of Christianity and of Jesus. This feature was all the more supplemented by the method of cultivation. If hemp was sown close together, the individual plants needed to compete with each other for light. As such, they would be forced to grow taller than their competition, resulting in long stems high in cellulose. As England s navy grew, so too did the demand for hemp. In 1533, King Henry VIII compelled landlords to set aside 1/240th of their tillable land to the growing of hemp; thereby ensuring an adequate supply of fibre. Elizabeth I increased the production yet again, and even went as far as to impose a fine of ВЈ5 (around $2000 USD) on any eligible landlord who refused to grow it. Eventually, however, the demand had increased to the extent that the British Isles were no longer able to supply an adequate volume of hemp. Indeed, this was one of the main forces behind the British drive to colonize new lands. Its hardiness and ease of cultivation made it ideal for growth in the colonies. Many times the stories are speaking of hardships in life and crimes committed. He also states that Gangsta rap, a type of rap music featuring aggressive lyrics, often with reference to gang violence, is mostly considered black noise . He uses this term to provide an illustration that African Americans are predominantly at the top of this rap violence. Furthermore, rap music plays the role for urban youth in mainstream America. The Army does little to understand the values or cultures of new recruits as the authors suggest. Instead, leaders try to impose the Army s own values onto new soldiers. One of the first requirements in basic training is to memorize the Army s seven values: loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity and personal courage. These values are reinforced in training throughout the Army and are meant to supplant whatever values were already present. Haircuts and clothing become uniform in an attempt to strip away a soldier s individuality. Communication with families is very limited during initial training. It becomes harder for anyone to identify with his or her own culture as time passes. As cruel as this might sound, it is a necessary step in developing soldiers that place the mission first. During war, it is crucial that soldiers react to orders without thinking. Cultural biases can interfere with this. Many cultures place a lot of importance on respecting elders. People are expected to defer to someone who is older. This presents a problem in the Army when a leader has soldiers who are older than him. The leader s orders must be obeyed without hesitation. For some reason Jonah, though a prophet of God who seemingly was willing to follow the Lord s commands, did not adopt the grace attribute of God s character. Jonahwas judgmental, as human beings often are, and he could not see past the egregious sin of Ninevehin order to understand the grace and the heart of God. Nineveh was a city saturated with sin. He wanted Nineveh totally destroyed. Jonah did not believed that the Ninevites deserved another chance, possibly because of the ferociousness of their sin, so he decided that he was not going to bring the prophetic word of God before them. Knowing that his words had the power to change people s minds, Jonah did not want even the slightest chance of Nineveh repenting to God (Jonah 1:3). Some ministers in modern day would be wise to revisit the book of Jonah. So many refuse to preach in certain places because they feel the sin is too great, or that God cannot meet the need, or even that they are not the right person to bring the word to that group of people. They will claim, as Jonah did, that the people do not deserve mercy; therefore, it is better to run from the task (and God) than to preach a word that might change the hearts of man. In running from God, readers can see just how stubborn and steadfast in his convictions Jonah was. He boarded a boat to Tarshish hoping foolishly to escape the presence of the Lord (Jonah 1:3). James Rawls, writer of the article California: A Place, A People, A Dream is an optimist who believes there is still hope for the California Dream (Rawls 14). The article was written 1984. For the case control study, we used logistic regression to calculate odds ratios (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) as an estimate of stroke risk. In order to determine whether stroke risk varied differentially by location of injury, we first examined each location individually. We then modeled the association between stroke and each injury location with adjustment for age, race, sex and multisystem trauma (given that the composite multisystem trauma variable does not specify injury location). Results: From a population of 34 million enrolled in KPNC over the 15 year study period, we identified 989,333 patients who had 1,308,009 emergency department encounters or admissions to the hospital for trauma. Patients contributed a median of one trauma encounter (interquartile range ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There are generally many practical as well as emotional issues involved. Many things have to be considered such as educational, medical, and financial decisions. There are many issues that may arise from having a child with a learning disabilitysuch as familystress, parenting discrepancies, negative reactions from extended familymembers, difficulty in interacting with the school, and mixed effects upon siblings (Dyson, 2010). A study conducted by Dyson found that despite higher degrees of stress, families of children with developmental disabilities experienced the same level of family cohesion, maintenance of the family system, and emphasis on personal growth as families of nondisabled children (Dyson, 2010). These studies regarding how disabilities affect the family have conflicting results therefore Dyson wanted to know if similar results would be found in a study conducted with families that have learning disabled children. The study that was conducted tested the hypotheses that having a child that is learning disabled will have a negative effect on family life and on siblings in particular. The study was conducted through the use of focus groups which conducted in depth group interviews and consisted of ten families represented by eleven parents. The results of the study concluded that parents suffered guilt, family stress, as well as martial tension. There were also parents blaming each other as well as issues in regards to parenting styles. Persuasive Speech On Australia Day Australia Day This is a speech directed at the people of Australia, it is to convince you, that by celebrating Australia day on the 26th of January, you are celebrating the day that European prisoners came to this country and stole it from the aboriginals. I want you to put you into a story. Imagine you are living on the land with your family and friends. By day you hunt wild animals and travel. And at nights you gather around the campfire and tell stories. You meet up with other groups of people and traveling with them. Imagine swimming and running and creating friendships. Imagine that your people have been doing this for thousands of years. Now imagine strange people with different colour skin to you land on beaches, in big wooden contraptions. You offer them food and water and show them how to live of your land. Then they attack you and kill your friends. More and more of these strange people come and they take all your water from your springs. They sell you pretty trinkets for the meat that you spent all day hunting. The people wage war on you and massacre everyone around you and take you as their slave. As you grow up and have kids, the strange people take your kids, and you never see them again. You are now in your later years of life. Strange people have completely settled over your land. They have beaten and murdered all your friends. They have stolen your children, and treated you like an animal. Now these people have started to celebrate the day that they arrived on your beach. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hitler s New Man Upon achieving power in 1933, Hitler and the Nazi state began to implement increasingly severe measures aimed at segregating and ultimately removing the Jewish people from Germany and eventually all of Europe. Hitler s further achievement was to create the new man. However, meanwhile the creation of Hitler s new man was giving Germany a sense of destiny, the Jewish life was being constricted and erased. But what exactly was this idea of a new man? The ultimate attitude behind this new achievement was to further purify the Aryan race. One of the first steps towards purity were the Aryan passports, but these were just the beginning of a much broader effort or revolution for Germans to accept their racial responsibilities. • 38. The Importance Of Looking Before You Leap Essay The Importance of Looking Before You Leap Media portrays romantic relationships as a whirlwind of emotions that ends in a happily ever after in the course of a few days; children s movies are a larger perpetrator of this idea. But how accurate is this to real life relationships? Research, including John Van Epp s book How to Avoid Falling in Love with a Jerk, tells us that a healthy relationship is built on more than the initial emotions we feel. In chapter one of How to Avoid Falling in Love with a Jerk, Epp discusses the importance of the love is blind phenomenon where we either one, don t know how to identify predictors of relationship dissatisfaction or two, become so attached to someone that we minimize predictors in the belief that things will get better. The love is blind phenomenon causes discourse between the heart and mind, two things that need to be harmonious in order for a healthy relationship. Epp also discusses the predictors of (dis)satisfaction in order to find a partner that complements us and identify things that could result in potential problems in the relationship. For the first chapter, I found the predictors to be the most interesting point in this chapter. Epp identified five categories that seemed to play a large role in marital satisfaction and they are compatibility potential, relationship skills, patterns from other relationships, family patterns and background, and character and conscience traits. Compatibility potential is the similarities ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Transformational, charismatic, and servant leadership are three styles that organizational leaders might possess. While there is no predetermined best style of leadership, one can describe leadership and management as situational. The overriding goal of any organization is building a high performing organization which is paramount for short and long term success (DeGraw Sizoo, 2013). Money, Bond, Returns, And Amortization Schedule Money, Bond Returns, and Amortization Schedule The flow of funds within financial markets is stimulated by the money, bond and mortgage markets. A money market is the trading of highly liquid financial instruments with a duration of one year or less and includes the trading of Treasury bills. Furthermore, bonds are long term investments, with a duration greater than 1 year and are issued by corporations and the U.S. government. In addition, the mortgagemarket creates loans to finance the real estate market. Once mortgages are issued on a property, banking institutions securitize the mortgages and sell them on the secondary market (CSU Global, 2016). Due to the scale of these three markets they have an extensive impact on the monetary supply and economy. Treasury Bills Money market securities are short term instruments created by governments and corporations to obtain short term funding. Thus, Iago s choice of words prove his sinister intentions; which also include his ability to manipulate people. Iago s evil is also demonstrated by his ability to manipulate people and situations through his words and through his actions. The first victim to fall under Iago s manipulative spell is the half witted Roderigo. Iago recognizes that Roderigo is consumed by lust for Desdemona and would go to the extremes to make her his own. Iago convinces Roderigo that the only way to win Desdemona s heart is to give her money; ...Put money in thy purse... (Act 1, sc. iii, line 339). However, Iago is able to manipulate Roderigo s infatuation and make himself a profit by taking the money intended for Desdemona and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 54. Negative Influence Of The 2nd Amendment (NRA) The NRA has managed to become a powerful gun lobby and influencer of the gun conversation through their deliberate propaganda that targets and in many ways lies about the 2nd Amendment. In 1977, through a shakeup within the NRA, the organization went from a group of hunters and sportsmen to a strong advocate for the right to bear arms. Catering to strong gunadvocates, the NRA was able to become a very powerful and influential organization. By aggressively advocating for gun rights, and preying on Republican congressmen with many pro gun constituents, they were able to build up a foundation of support, which they have now expanded into one of the most powerful lobbies in Washington. Nowadays, they promote the 2nd Amendment, but only the parts... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... From 1975 until the DC vs Heller ruling in 2008, the Firearms Control Regulations Act was in place, which banned residents of DC from owning handguns, automatic firearms, or high capacity semiautomatic weapons. Since then, very little gun legislation has been passed at all. In fact, since the horrific Newtown shooting that occurred in 2012, not a single piece of legislation has been passed on guns. While conservatives might feel sorry for the victims, they realize that many conservatives, like Joe the Plumber (the Ohio workingman who gained prominence in the 2008 election), who once said, Your dead kids...don t trump my constitutional rights , would stop voting for them if they tried to implement gun control policies. Many on the right claim that gun control is an effort not just to regulate guns, but to completely ban them. This is an effective scare tactic used to get their constituents angry at the Democrats. But gun regulation and gun bans are two very different things. Data shows us that there are certain groups of people who should never be allowed to own a gun. This includes those who have prior offenses of violence, those who are mentally ill, suspected terrorists, and people who have children living in their home. However, there are people who can make a reasonable claim to needing a gun, and they shouldn t be denied that right. For example, people in very rural areas, without much access to the protection provided by public safety officials should have the right to own a gun if they demonstrate they are able to use one properly. Also, hunters and people who have obtained restraining orders against those who have threatened them with violence might make a case for their right to own a gun. Most gun control advocates don t want to take away guns from everyone, they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
