Theme Of A Worn Path
A Worn Path by Eudora Welty, written in 1941, is a short story about an elder, Negro woman,
Phoenix Jackson, traveling along a well worn path to an unknown destination. As the title suggests,
this is a path that she has taken many times. The main theme represented in A Worn Path is that a
person would endure and overcome the forces of nature and society for those they love.
Eudora Welty introduces the character Phoenix Jackson in a way that illustrates that Phoenix is a
person who endures forces of nature and society; and the meaning of her name is a large hint to the
theme of endurance. William M. Jones introduces the idea that Phoenix is a reference to the
legendary bird that is reborn throughout time; one that endures. In his literary critic, William M.
Jones writes, The references at the beginning of the story announce rather clearly that a
comparison with the legendary bird is intended. The similarity becoming more pronounced as the
story progresses. The reference to the bird of endurance can be seen throughout the story,
especially when the reader concludes that Phoenix does not remember why she is traveling the
path. Her loss of memory is a reference to the Phoenix dying; and at the end of the story, Phoenix
remembering her reason for the journey is a representation of being reborn.
Welty s diction and the time period that the short storywas written also gives the reader context
into Phoenix s endurance of the wrath of society. Phoenix is described as an

The Pros And Cons Of The Glass Age
Humankind has gone through many ages including the Stone Age, Bronze Age, Iron Age, the
Middle ages, Machine age, and the period we are in today. Many valid arguments for what
period we are in today including the Big Data Age, Social Age, or even Information Age.
However, I think a valid argument can also be made for the Glass Age. Throughout this course we
have covered many topics while using a wide variety of equipment and technology all made
possible through the advancements of glass. From window panes absorbing UV radiation,
microscopelenses or eye glasses, to the fiberoptic cable that keeps us in an information age. Todays
world would not be possible without glass.
The first manmade glass was discovered in eastern Mesopotamia around 3500bc. Around 2000
years later glass vessels were being created and more and more glass was being used. At this
time glass was still in its infancy and very little was known about it. However, shortly after this,
glass technology started to increase at a drastic rate as information about glass was transferred
from civilization to civilization. In the first century glass blowing was discovered which allowed
for more consistent results and was much easier to create. Around the same time mold blowing also
took affect which created consistent results and allowed for easy production of vessels. Glass
blowing flourished during the roman empire and the romans even had glass windows on some of
their important buildings. It wasn t until the

Off Balance Research Paper
Fundamentals of an Off Balance When I first joined judo I never expected to learn so many
things in just a small timely manner. Within the first week I already learned how to do throws,
takedowns, and submissions which were the basic essentials to mastering judo. Judo explained in
the English dictionary means an unarmed combat intended to train the body and mind. The
objective is to either throw or takedown an opponent to the ground, immobilize or otherwise
subdue an opponent with a pin, or force an opponent to submit with a joint lock or a choke. As I
continued on doing judo I could not figure out how to successfully execute a throw during the
opponent s brief moment of off balance , until one of my upper classmate taught me how to do it
correctly because it all depended entirely on timing.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It s a simple push, shove, or pull in a direction that will take the opponent off balance. In order to
win, the opponent must be thrown with control, force, and on their back. By either pushing,
shoving, or pulling an opponent off balance, the execution of the actual throw is made
substantially easier since they will be leaning in that direction. Think of an off balance in Judo
like pushing someone forward and quickly extending a foot out so that they trip and fall. This
example shows how timing is everything, extend the foot too late after the push and they won t
trip, too early and they might just stumble a bit. It s a crude example, but it shows the relationship
between off balance and timing of the execution. Much like how one must quickly extend a foot at
the right moment, a Judoka has but a few seconds to off balance and throw an opponent all in one
continuous and fluid motion. The timing of the throw during the off balance will determine if it is
successful. Without the off balance, a throw is conceivably possible yet substantially more difficult
to pull

The Chimney Sweeper By William Walker Analysis
In Songs of Innocence and of Experience, the two poems The Chimney Sweeper highlight the
injustice during Blake s time such as: poverty, child labour, and abuse. The Chimney Sweeper
illustrates William Blake s understanding of innocence and experience by exposing the hypocritical
nature of authority during the 1700s. This essay will begin with explaining Blake s concept of
innocence and experience .
Firstly, William Blakeperceives innocence and experience as contrasting states of the soul. As a
result, the narrators are examples of his understanding through their accounts of their life. In The
Chimney Sweeper (1789), William Blake wrote:
And so Tom awoke and we rose in the dark
And got with our bags brushes to work
Tho the morning was cold, Tom was happy Warm,
So if all do their duty, they need not fear harm. (Blake, Lines 21 24).
The boy and Tom Dacre are innocent through their optimism in their hopes despite their harsh
reality. The essence of Blake s understanding of innocence is the ability to be joyful and
celebratory with hope. In contrast, the narrator in The Chimney Sweeper (1794) knows that there
is no hero or escape from the life of a Chimney Sweep. Essentially showing experience as the
acceptance of the present reality as the only reality.
On top of that, William Blake s concepts of experience can be further explained through the
imagery used by the narrator in The Chimney Sweeper (1794). In The Chimney Sweeper (1794),
William Blake writes:
And because i am happy, dance sing,
They think they have done me no injury:
And are gone to praise God his Priest King
Who make up a heaven of our misery. ( Lines 9 12).
The boy shows a full understanding of the hopelessness in his situation without interruption from
dreams or thoughts of being saved. He thoroughly explains the misuse of power in authority in his
situation. However, Tom Dacre vividly describes his friend s dream in two stanzas. The children in
The Chimney Sweeper (1789) do not fully comprehend the harsh reality of chimney sweeps and
instead clings to the ideas of hope.
William Blake illustrates his concepts through highlighting the hypocrisy during the 1700s. The life
of a chimney sweeper was

How Traditional Clothing Must Be Addressed, Along With...
When looking to introduce GAP shirts in Turkey for the female market, there are many cultural
considerations that must be taken into account. Traditional clothing must be addressed, along with
textiles. We believe that these products will be successful due to the popularity of American style
within the target market. Also, the styles and materials that the company uses already have some
overlap with the type of clothingthat is popular in the cities. Although there are many young
individuals in the middle and upper class that idealize Western styles, shirts must still be adapted to
fit into the environment and religious practices of the country. The GAP branding will remain the
same, but other aspects must be changed to accommodate the... Show more content on

Turkish business practices and procedures are much different than those in U.S. and other
countries, so it is crucial for GAP to be aware of business etiquette before entering this market. For
the Turkish, meeting times to discuss business practices are vital. Since religion is particularly
important, members are expected to be on time, and to have organized appointments and meetings
around the five daily prayer times and holidays. In Turkey, business is a serious matter and is
treated very formally. It is important for GAP representatives to greet Turkish members with a firm
handshake and engage in small talk when entering into conversation. In the Turkish culture, if a
person immediately begins discussing business, rather than getting to know their counterparts, the
host may take offense to these actions and consider them rude. Additionally, individuals generally
stand close during conversation and do not require as much personal space as other cultures. As a
result, it is important for GAP employees, when meeting Turkish colleagues, to never back away
from them so that they are not perceived as unfriendly. Further, when going through business
processes, the Turkish culture is known for taking longer than most countries in negotiating, so this

Berna Six Case Study
The Jena Six were six black teenagers in Jena, Louisiana indicted in the 2006 beating of Justin
Barker, a white understudy at the nearby Jena High School, which they likewise went to. Barker
was harmed on December 4, 2006 by the individuals from the Jena Six, and got treatment at a
crisis room. While the case was pending, it was regularly refered to by a few media reporters as
a sample of racial treachery in the United States. A few analysts trusted that the litigants had been
accused at first of as well genuine offenses and had been dealt with unjustifiably. Various
occasions had occurred in and around Jena in the months prior to the Barker ambush, which the
media have connected with a claimed acceleration of nearby racial strains. These occasions
incorporated the hanging of rope nooses from a tree in the secondary school patio, two brutal
showdowns in the middle of white and black young people, and the decimation by flame of the
fundamental working of Jena High School. Broad news scope identified with the Jena Six

A post secondary education has become essential in today s society. Many students throughout the
United States focus on their education and work hard to receive perfect grades. Most importantly,
the financing of each student s post secondary education has become difficult in today s economy
due to the cost. Corresponding to American Progress, a recent study by Georgetown Universitys
Center on education and workforce found that at current levels of production, the U.S. economy
will have a shortfall of five million collegeeducated workers by 2020. (Bergeron Martin). This

debt. According to Andersen, the average student loan debts for college graduates is $37,000.
The money invested in college tuition would have many decisive effects making our country an
even better place to live financially. Corresponding to TradeSchools.net, there are many places
around the world that give students access to a free college education like Finland, Austria,
Norway, Germany, and Sweden (Redd). The idea has a lot of financial benefits of college
graduates not being in debt because of the nation s spending towards their education. It s also very
successful, Finland has free college tuition with 2.08% of their nation s GDP leading the average
student loan amounts to $1,200 for living expenses. In comparison to the United States 1.36%
share towards education, drowning the nation in debt (Redd). The money being funded would help
educate our country and benefit students lives as a whole. Results increase the amounts of
graduates leading to more chances for our population to become doctors, lawyers, nurses, or make a

Negationism In 1984
In Chapter 1 of the Book 1984, we see the beginning of the story in the ruins of England, renamed
Airstrip One in Oceana. We meet the main character, Winston, who works for the Ministry of
Truth. In reality the name is contrary to its actual work, lies and Historical Negationism.
Historical Negationism is the distortion or denial of history for normally evil reasons or
purposes. Compared to our lives, Historical Negationism does not happen as often as it did in the
story, but in our lives, we have the better version. Historical Revisionism, this is the revising of
history, and is normally used under the circumstances that new information is discovered in
history, science or any field in the books. Historical Negationism is normally used to influence a
populace to bend to the will of a bigger power, like the Ministry workers bending to the power of
Big Brother or whoever pulls the strings behind all the complex ins and outs of life in 1984.
Unlike the world in 1984, we do not have such a nefarious scheme controlling our daily lives
behind the curtains. This is why Historical Negationism isn t more prevalent in our world than in

The Strange Situation Protocol Was Developed By British...
Attachment theory, originally developed by British psychoanalyst John Bowlby (1907 1990), is
based on caregiver child relationships. Bowlby indicated that the attachment style developed in
infancy, has a true correlation to our adult relationships, and is a result of recurring interpersonal
interactions with caregivers during childhood. Children develop different attachment styles based
on their experience and interactions with primary caregivers. Several various ways of evaluating
attachment in children have been introduced. One such evaluation mentioned in our textbook,
Lifespan Development, 2014 the Strange Situation Protocol was developed by Mary Ainsworth
(Boyd Bee, 2014, p.136 ). These attachments styles have been linked to how we form attachments
as adolescents and even into adulthood and consists of four main attachment styles; Secure,
Insecure avoidant, Insecure ambivalent and insecure disorganized. Secure Attachment Style is
described as a pattern of attachment in which an infant readily separates from the parent, seeks
proximity when stresses, and uses the parent as a safe base for exploration (Boyd Bee, 2014,
p.136). There is a vast amount of research regarding the importance of the parent child relationship
to the development of children into adulthood. According to an article in the Journal of
Adolescence, In the context of emotional development, according to secure base theory, parents

In all the years of rough stock riding, since the 16th century, riders haven t worn

The bull rider s arms absorb the full force of the bucking bull. The only tack that is used

Canadian Confederation Research Paper
Canadian Confederation In 1867
I picked up Confederation as a topic from the book I studied in class since I really enjoyed talking
about the beginning of Canadian history, and it was very interesting for me to search about. In this
paper, I shall state about Canadian confederation with some information from the discussion in class
and the Internet. Basically, how Canada became a country is because the British government
allowed Canada to be an autonomous nation. The trigger of the Canadian foundation was the
British War in 1812. In order to combat the United States which aimed at consolidation of Canada, it
was a step to independence that the British parliament decided Canada as the Canadian

people who were from English speaking countries could get along well with people who were from

Summary Of The World Is Flat 3.0 Globalization
Barefoot, Emily The World Is Flat 3.0 is an in depth analysis of the globalization taking place in
the late 20th and early 21st centuries. In the book, Thomas Friedman discusses how globalization
has created a flat world, how the flat world affects everyone, and how to thrive in a flat world.
Reading this book will broadened ones views on globalizationand the world we live in, further
enlightening about technology to redefine one s view of success. In The World Is Flat3.0, Friedman
uses the technological advancements of the last century as a basis for his theory of a flat world.
He uses the term flat to describe the current state of the economic world. The advancements in the
field of technology have led to this flattening, creating a world where it is more efficient and
costly to outsource accounting jobs to India to work for American accounting offices. The World

Paul of Tarsus Essay
Paul of Tarsus
Contribution to the development and expression of Christianity
Paul of Tarsus (originally Saul of Tarsus) is widely considered to be central to the early
development and adoption of Christianity. Many Christians view him as an important interpreter of
the teachings of Jesus. Little is known of the birth and early childhood of Paul, then known as
Saul. It is known in the scriptures that he was born in the city of Tarsus (Acts 22:3) located in the
Roman province of Cilicia around the year 5 A.D. Saul left his home during his early adolescence
and was taken to Jerusalem for his formal education in the most prominent rabbinical schools of that

On the road to Damascus the Lord intervenes in Saul s life (Acts 9: 3 6) and he is genuinely
converted during that encounter with the Lord Jesus. Under the ministry of Ananias (a disciple)
he was also healed and filled with the Holy Spirit. Saul now known as Paul from that moment on
immediately began preaching Christ in the synagogues of Damascus. Paul s preaching was very
convincing and disturbing to the Damascus Jews to the point where they desired to kill him.
Therefore, the other Christian disciples assisted him in his escape by night (Acts 9:22 25) that he
may escape to Arabia. Paul s missionary Journeys were defining actions of him, he usually set foot
with other companions and he endured hardships on these voyages. He was imprisoned, lashed and
stoned several times and almost murdered once (2 Cor. 11:24 27).
Paul s distinctive contribution to Christianity is his heresy the doctrine of salvation by faith. A
salvation available not just to the descendants of Abraham, but to the pagan, non Jewish world
as well. When he was writing to those in the Roman capital, Paul makes the declaration that

China s Current Growth Rate
China is currently the 2nd largest economy in the world, trailing the us and set to overtake the us
economy by 2024 according to the IMF. GDP of china has grown extensively over the past three
decades and have contributed to large scale growth in exports and imports, technological
advancements, health, and more. The acceleration of globalisation was due to two major
advancements, the first was the economic reforms of 1978 when china opened the country and
the joining of the WTO in 2001. China is classified as a socialist economy currently being ruled

Persuasive Essay On No Homework
s kids return to school, debate is heating up once again over how they should spend their time after
they leave the classroom for the day.
The no homework policy of a second grade teacher in Texas went viral last week, earning praise
from parents across the country who lament the heavy workload often assigned to young students.
Brandy Young told parents she would not formally assign any homeworkthis year, asking students
instead to eat dinner with their families, play outside and go to bed early.
But the question of how much work children should be doing outside of school remains
controversial, and plenty of parents take issue with no homework policies, worried their kids are
losing a potential academic advantage. Here s what you need to know:

The issue
For decades, the homework standard has been a 10 minute rule, which recommends a daily
maximum of 10 minutes of homework per grade level. Second graders, for example, should do
about 20 minutes of homework each night. High school seniors should complete about two hours of
homework each night. The National PTA and the National Education Associationboth support that
guideline.
But some schools have begun to give their youngest students a break. A Massachusetts
elementary school has announced a no homework pilot program for the coming school year,
lengthening the school day by two hours to provide more in class instruction. We really want
kids to go home at 4 o clock, tired. We want their brain to be tired, Kelly Elementary School
Principal Jackie Glasheen said in an interview with a local TV station. We want them to enjoy their
families. We want them to go to soccer practice or football practice, and we want them to go to
bed. And that s it.
A New York City public elementary school implemented a similar policy last year, eliminating
traditional homework assignments in favor of family time. The change was quickly met with
outrage from some parents, though it earned support from other education leaders.
New solutions and approaches to homework differ by community, and these local debates are
complicated by the fact that even education experts disagree about what s best for kids.

The Underlying Theme in the Forbidden Kingdom Literary works entertain, convey a moral lesson,
or acquaint their audiences with the knowledge of a particular human condition (Bucks County
Community College 1). Through their writings, authors bring various ideas and themes to bear. A
theme is perceivable as an underlying premise or idea in literary works or a film. Typical examples
of such topics include repression, loneliness, struggle and accomplishment, good and evil, free will,
rebirth, and redemption. The film The Forbidden Kingdom brings the theme of redemption to the
surface. Redemption is perceivable as the act of rescuing people from evil or sin or making
something better (Merriam Webster). The redemption theme emerges throughout the movie the
Forbidden Kingdom. At the beginning of the movie, the audience is introduced to a young man,
Jason Tripitikas, who is infatuated with martial arts movies (YouTube). Jason is a friend to an
aged adult called Hop. Hop helps Tripitikas calm his desire for martial arts movies by supplying
him with films at friendly prices. Additionally, Hop has a vast collection of ancient martial arts
movies that he avails to the young teenager whenever he wishes. This supposition is revealed
when Jason makes a visit to Hop s house at night, and he lets him in. Redemption, in this context,
is shown where Jason s obsession with martial arts is calmed by a regular supply of his favorite
films. Secondly, Hop s

Aircraft Noise Essay
It began with the first manned flight of an aircraft by the Wright brothers in 1903 in the town of
Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, forever changing the face of transportation in not only the United
States but indeed the world. The invention of the airplane allowed for the traveling of greater
distances in a shorter period of time than had previously been allowed with rail travel, or horse
drawn carriage as the more popular modes of transportation of the day. It really wasn t until the late
1940s 50s that passengerair travel began to take shape in the form we know it today, and since that

It should be noted however, that the degree of such hearing loss depends on the noise level itself,
the length of exposure to the individual and the hearer s individual susceptibility . Interestingly
enough a 3dB difference is noticeable to the average person, while a reduction of 10dB is
perceived by the human ear as a 50% reduction of noise (Thomson, p.1).
Evidence suggests that after an initial adjustment to a particular noise environment, people become
less, rather than more, tolerant of continued exposure to aircraft noise (Stevenson, p. 17). This
would seem to contradict with air industry supporters who have tried to paint the noise mitigation
issue as a nuisance , something to adapt to. The U.S. Surgeon General, Dr. William H. Stewart,

Nation of Islam in the Light of Elijah Muhammad Essay
Nation of Islam in the Light of Elijah Muhammad
In 1961 James Baldwin met Elijah Muhammad, the leader of the Nation of Islam movement at the
time. The time Baldwin spent within the Christian Church prior to his meeting with Elijah helped
him analyze what the Nation of Islam did for people. It allowed him to notice that everyone needed
a gimmick to keep them out of the ghetto, and it does not matter what the gimmick is (Baldwin
301). Baldwin realized that the Christian Church was his gimmick, so the Nation of Islam would
never do for him what the Christian Church had already done. Plus, some of the beliefs of the
Nation of Islam were a little far fetched. The Nation of Islam did not function as a very credible

He had three main ideas he preached that helped him with sales. He wanted black separatism,
everyone to know that white men were evil (which was not hard for African Americans to
believe since the idea already lived within their minds), and to show the inadequacy of
Christianity to African Americans. By preaching these ideas, he eventually had a following of
loyal supporters of his made up religion, who of course paid money to the church. When Fard
was arrested in 1933, he admitted that his teachings were strictly a racket and he was getting all
the money out of it he could (United States 1+). What he preached aided him in his peddling. He
did not take his teachings seriously yet he met a man one day that viewed him as God incarnate.
One night Elijah Poole attended one of Fard s sermons and spoke with him afterwards. He told him
that you re God himself (Marsh 39). At the time, the movement had eight thousand followers

his money making organization. At this time he recruited Elijah Poole, changed Elijah s name to
Elijah Muhammad and developed him into his Chief Minister. Soon after, Fard left Detroit and
Elijah took over the movement. Elijah was born in Sandersville, Georgia, in 1897 as the seventh of

We started with the interview and the meditation followed. During the interview process I sat in a
dark room with Michelle and another licensed witch and her avowed costumer David. We started
the process with explaining childhood religion based experiences. When I asked both Michelle and
David what religion they grew up in they both stated they grew up Southern Baptistand converted at
an early age. Michelle recalled a story where she believes she was in Sunday school and
immediately felt as though she was reincarnated and did not belong in the southern baptist
religion. However, David grew up feeling that everything that Southern Baptist believed was
wrong or false according to his own set of beliefs. It should also be noted that David is a
Homosexual male, he described growing up in a strict Southern Baptist household as complete hell
and escaping felt like freedom.
We went on to discuss the media and the open mindedness of my generation. I came into Sojourner
thinking I was going to experience crystal balls and a old woman with long white hair, telling me
my future, I was totally wrong. Ironically, Michelle stated that misinterpretations and stereotypes
rarely happen anymore. Being surrounded by college students people are more open minded,
stereotypes come from older people and they reference the media. We continued to sit and discuss

Tips on Paraphrasing
Paraphrasing
Within academic writing it is advised that a combination of both direct and indirect quotes
(paraphrasing) are used. Often it is better to paraphrase what an author has said as opposed to
using lengthy direct quotations. But what does it mean to paraphrase ? According to the
MacMillan English Dictionary (MacMillan, 2012:online), to paraphrase is to express what
someone else has said or written using different words, especially in order to make it shorter or
clearer. When you paraphrase another author s writing you rewrite their argument using your own
words, phrasing and interpreting it in your own way.

The nurse manager, nurse clinician, and clinical nurse specialist, as the designated experts, do not
take patient assignments. The resource nurse is not only a caregiver but a resource to the other
caregivers. Within the staff nurses there is also a hierarchy of seniority. Their job is to give
assigned patients all their nursing care.
Why this is plagiarism
Notice that the writer has not only borrowed Chase s material (the results of her research) with no
acknowledgment, but has also largely maintained the author s method of expression and sentence
structure. The phrases in red are directly copied from the source or changed only slightly in form.
Even if the student writer had acknowledged Chase as the source of the content, the language of
the passage would be considered plagiarized because no quotation marks indicate the phrases that
come directly from Chase. And if quotation marks did appear around all these phrases, this
paragraph would be so cluttered that it would be unreadable.
2. A Patchwork Paraphrase
Chase (1995) describes how nurses in a critical care unit function in a hierarchy that places
designated experts at the top and the least senior staff nurses at the bottom. The experts the nurse
manager, nurse clinician, and clinical nurse specialist are not involved directly in patient care. The
staff nurses, in contrast, are assigned to patients and

Essay On Guidance Changes
Does Title IX Need Changed? An argument has emerged in the United States regarding the title
IX guidance changes of 2011. In 2011 the Obama administration changed some guidelines about
sexual assault in title IX. These changes would include many changes that colleges would have to
make to comply with the new title IX rules and regulations. Since 2011 there has been questions
regarding if the changes were doing what they were made to do, which was to further protect each
party. Some people believe that the changes of 2011 have worked well and need to stay. On the
other hand, some people claim that there are some major problems with the regulations and need to

On the other hand, some think that any evidence at all is enough to prove someone guilty of a
sexual assault. With schools increase in responsibility it is thought to be a reason why people
are not receiving a universities full attention and fail to receive a full fair trial. University s
claim that every case they investigate is to their best of their ability but the accused and even
the victims have reported what they thought of as a failure of a fair trial. Some statements also
show that people seem to think that students that are involved with a University sports team is
treated differently than a normal student. Also, reports seem to show a favor to female genders
and discriminate males that are involved in an investigation. One of the most debated topics of
the 2011 changes to title IX is the differences between a school trial and a criminal trial. Some
people claim that schools sometimes fail or rush to hand over any investigations over to the
authorities. When a case is changed into a criminal trial often noted is that the trial is much longer
than a school trial and the accuser is sometimes harder to prove that they are guilty. Much of the
argument on this topic is when does the school stop and where does a criminal trial take place?
Some people believe that the schools should reserve the right to decide when they

What Links Disciplines Of Literature, Philosophy And...
What links the disciplines of literature, philosophy and mathematics? The answer is, quite simply,
fiction. Fiction has probably existed since the human brain was capable of imagination, either for
distraction or for the more functional purpose of envisioning hunt scenarios when our nomadic
ancestors would need to survive. Fiction can be defined as a literary tool that fools readers or
theatre goers into thinking that the author possesses certain knowledge about the world (Plato et
al., 1963) but is usually understood as a world or scenario that is created by human imagination.
However, that doesn t necessarily make it untrue, as fiction can be based on reality and can become

Numbers and equations simply to not concretely exist in our world. Maths is, after all, like any
written language, glorified scribbling that somehow resonates with meaning in our minds. Take as
an example 4 = 2 + 2 . This string of symbols translates itself into what we understand is an
equation: the two sides of the = sign are the same. However, neither 4 not 2 + 2 exist. They are not
visually identical. Yet somehow we accept that connecting them with the = symbol indicates that
their numerical value is equivalent. Like fiction, maths merely requires us to suspend our disbelief
long enough for us to understand whatever story or message the author is trying to impart. This
philosophical position is called Mathematical Fictionalism. Its proponents believe that mathematics
are purely fictional but are still functional as long as its purpose is not meant to be a mirror of
reality (Leng, 2016). However, this position calls into question the validity of mathematics. Fiction,
if assumed completely truthful, becomes a lie. So if mathematics are purely a human made
language created to describe phenomena that cannot be described in another language, how can we
ascertain its precision and how much power should we give it in a discussion? Mathematical
entities do not exist concretely, yet we give them characteristics and magnitudes that allow them to
be ranked, ordered and even to interact amongst

Daddy Sylvia Plath Analysis
A prevailing feeling when someone dies is the feeling of having unfinished business. This idea
was clearly incorporated into Sylvia Plath s poem Daddy. Through Plath s life she despised her
father. Seven years, if you want to know (74). Plath even compares him to a Nazi at one point in
the poem, I thought every German was you (Pg. 29). Even though the Nazi period was not during
the time of Daddys publishing date to associate the amount of hatred she had for her father Plath
compares him to the worst person she could think of, a Nazi. Plath conveys the fact that when
people die there is a feeling of unfinished business that does not die along with them.
Throughout the poem Plath connects how she did not have enough time to fulfill ... Show more

To fill the feeling she used her husband who then she held the same hatred for. I killed one man, I
ve killed two (75). Plath does not literally mean killed when she metaphorically writes but only that
they are out of her life.
Another literary device that Plath uses is connecting the poem to herself. Usually it is a norm to
keep the author separate from the poem, but in Plath s case it is a different. She is writing about
her own father. Knowing this sends the meaning of the work to a different level of context and
makes it stronger because it is truly how she feels about the loss of her own father. Not only is
she is explaining that she does not like her father, she tells how the entire community despises her
father, And the villagers never liked you. They are dancing and stamping on you (77). A major hit
on her father in this line, writing that the herself and the villagers are dancing on his grave
enforces the fact that she hated her father. Plath writes that she goes back to dance on his grave
because she is not at peace with the hate she has for her father yet. The feelings left after him dying
are still there.
Although Plath did write about her own father she still created characters with in the poem who
portrayed her husband and father. Building her husband up to be pictured as a The vampire who
said he was you and drank my blood for a year (72) and her father as a Marble heavy bag full of

The Things They Carried’ by Tim O’Brien Essay
The Things They Carried by Tim O Brien provides a insider s view of war and its distractions,
both externally in dealing with combat and internally dealing with the reality of war and its
effect on each solder. The story, while set in Vietnam, is as relevant today with the conflicts in
Iraq and Afghanistan as it was in the 1960 s and 1970 s in Southeast Asia. With over one million
soldiers having completed anywhere from one to three tours in combat in the last 10 years, the
real conflict might just be inside the soldier. O Brien reflects this in his writing technique, using a
blend of fiction and autobiographical facts to present a series of short narratives about a small unit

The use of pathos and ethos in tandem strengthens his writing, but also leads to some parts being

almost drones on losing the reader in a myriad of technical mumbo jumbo and measurements
before getting back on target with the story of the soldier s life in the field. The organization of the
text can be hard to follow when he goes on about the equipment. On the other hand O Brien takes
the role of narrator; clearly he is invested emotionally in the story. However, the drama of the
moment can be diluted with too much fact and not enough emotion. Taking each character and
peeling back the soldier layers to expose us to the person underneath, he also creates moments
that are poignant and riveting. For the most part they carried themselves with poise, a kind of

Typically, us Americans categorize neighborhoods we see into two categories, which are
wealthy and poor neighborhoods. After observing families income in wealthy neighborhoods
compared to poor neighborhoods, they are drastically distinctive. Most families who have great
amounts of money generally live in a large house, while those who are classified as poor will be
found in some unsafe areas. These homes have different builds, exteriors may be maintained or
may be filled with clutter, and the families inside these homes may express different wants than
the opposite class. Unfortunately, wealthy and poor people both fall under a stereotype. The rich
are looked upon as snobby and prude, while the poor are seen as lacking intelligence or they could

What Is Ecotourism
What is ecotourism? Normally, natural travel can be called as ecotourism. Eco came from the
Greek words called OIKOS , it means the habitat and it is an abbreviation of the words ecology .
This word actually came from the scientific study of the relationship of living organisms to each
other and their surroundings. Therefore, in this point of view, ecotourism means ecological tourism;
whereby ecological has both of the social content and environmental. According to Page Dowling
(2002), since most of the definition of ecotourism have been explained, it is not so much as a word
but a philosophy and a commitment which evolved from environmental awareness of 1960s, there

The Development Goals Of The United Nations
The United Nations was created after World War II, on October 24, 1945. It was created to
provide an international council that would promote peace between countries. They would work
together to solve international problems (History of The United Nations). It was also created to
replace the League of Nations, the United Nation s predecessor. There have been many
peacekeeping missions conducted by the United Nations, such as interventions in Bosnia, Rwanda,
Syria, and Korea. They also have Millennium Development Goals to better the world s health.
The Millennium Development Goals are eight of the world s major problems that the United
Nations set out to solve by the year 2015. All of the countries in the world are working to solve
problems such as extreme hunger and poverty, and maternal health (News On The MDGs.).
These missions have tested the United Nations ability to resolve conflict and keep peace. Failure
is the inability to complete the goals you set out to complete. Failure is the incapability of living
up to the standards that you set up for yourself. The United Nations has proven that they have
failed to achieve many of their goals. Not only have they failed to provide primary education to all
children, but they also failed to prevent a major genocide in Bosnia, and although there was some
success in Korea, they still failed to bring together the North and the South under a democratic

First, the lecturer agrees that realism was a prevalent art style during the life of Julius Caesar;
however, it was also a prevalent style of art throughout many eras of human history. Since realism
has been a style of art in many periods, this information does little to prove the date of the bust.

An Earthquake Of The Francisco Earthquake
Giovanni Lozano
Professor Tod Benedict
GLY 1000
21 October 2015
1906 San Francisco Earthquake An earthquake is the vibration of the Earth produced by the
rapid release of energy. Most earthquakes occur at a plate boundary, usually along the Circum
Pacific belt. They tend to be caused by the slippage along large fracture in the Earth s crust, such
as a fault for example. However, they can also occur from a volcanic eruption, or an atomic
explosion. There are two different types of shocks to a major earthquake; there is a foreshock and
an aftershock. The foreshock concedes of smaller earthquakes that precede a major one by some
time period, and an aftershock that concedes of small earthquakes due to the adjustment of the
crust after the major earthquake. Earthquakes affect numerous things, from soil liquefaction to
construction, and the rupture of power, gas, and water lines. There are two ways to measuring the
size of an earthquake, those are intensity and magnitude. The intensity is a measure of the degree
of an earthquake shaking at a given locale based on the amount of damage, measured through the
Modified Mercalli Intensity Scale which bases of the surveys of those whom were affected, and
ranges from 1 to a 12. The magnitude is the total amount of energy released at the source of an
earthquake, which tends to be measured on the Richter magnitude scale. This method is based on
the amplitude of the largest seismic wave, and ranges from a 2 to infinity. Unfortunately there

Justice Gray Film Analysis
In the movie, Justice Gray remains very quiet, only speaking when necessary compared to reading
the transcripts from the court. He asked questions of clarification but also seems to have a harsher
tone with Irving when he tries to expand his questioning on a matter that has already been debated
in much length. In the movie, it isn t until he gives his judgment that he plays a vital role, which is
to be expected for a judge making a ruling on a matter as important as this one. It was clear

In a New York Times article by Sarah Lyall (2000), Irving was splattered with a raw egg by a
protester as he went to court in the morning (also shown in the movie) and slipped out the back

Ain T Broke Summary
The old saying of if it ain t broke, don t fix it, is an overall theme for this interlude. However,
how do we know when a story is broken? The truth is we don t, and Foster tries to show us that,
there s no one way to write a story. There are thousands upon millions of different ways that you
can compose your masterpiece, but you have to realize something, which is that intertextuality.
Everything s connected in one way or another. It s like a giant family tree that is never ending, and
the faster you try to run away from it, the more it catches up. Till eventually you realize, there s no
point in running, and utilize the information/techniques from millions of writers that came before
you. One of the points that Foster made extremely well

The Importance Of Student Education
Introduction
The University of Nebraska at Kearney is a public university that offers a wide variety of degrees.
While the university does offer classes both online and on campus, the primary focus will be on the
classroom setting. Currently, UNK has an enrollment of over 6,000 students (2017). With so many
current students, different experiences are a common part of the college education involvement. The
University of Nebraska at Kearney is home to fifty buildings on campus (2017). The classrooms
located in West Center will be further discussed for the physical atmospheric service setting.
Approach Elements
Although certain setting characteristics that entice one kind of student may deter another type of
student, there are several approach elements that can be used to make the student feel more relaxed.
Approach elements in the classroom are imperative to a student s learning and educational
experience. The approach elements are the factors that make up an inviting and reassuring
environment (Fisk, Grove, John, 2014, p.69). A university system will want to make sure it
properly utilizes certain approach elements because students will learn better is a supportive
comfortable learning environment (Young, 2014). Positive permanent approach elements present in
room C228 include: noise level, temperature, and air quality.
Each student may feel as though he or she deserves a customized education. Customizing a student
s education may provide a crucial role in producing a

Global Wine War Analysis
1.
Due to French history and tradition it was possible to gain a strong image in regard to vinery and
example, which can be highlighted might be the invention of Champaign.
The experience of France as a quality wine producer going back to the middle ages can be
regarded as a source of competitive advantage. Another source is the strong wine culture in France
creating a positive image for customers. The wine industry by itself is a very important economic
factor in France, in the mid 18th century the wine industry accounted for 17% of the overall
industry. As a consequence, in 1855 the government classified wine yard into five different levels
of quality. This helped the consumers to identify the best possible wines and was unique at the ...

c. Advice to the French Minister of Agriculture
Help your producers sell their vine: provide more funds for marketing campaigns and fund
workshops on how they can identify their target group and do targeted, cost efficient marketing
4.
a. Australian Minister of Agriculture:
The labeling of wine according to regions in Australia has been already done but not with
protection by law. Tighten laws in relevance of how to label wines can be beneficial in the long
run when it comes to value creation, as can be successfully recognized in France.
Simultaneously, a financially subsidy should support wine yards with their surplus production
hence the successful long term strategy Directions to 2025 , which foresees value growth by 2015
and global leadership on the wine market by 2025 might be eased. This is necessary since Australia
will cannot compete on price in the long term bringing to mind low cost production countries such
as Chile.
b. Australian wine industry association
Align marketing activities with the plan of Direction to 2025 . Support the Australian s wine image
from cheap and cheerful into a classified and recognizable labeling scheme. It might be added that
the new scheme can be restructured in a way that it does not mix up psychographic targeting with
regional ones, since this might be confusing. The

Essay on Controversial Supreme Court Case Roper V. Simmons
The Death Penalty is a controversial topic on its own. However, if you add the possibility of a
minor receiving the death penalty it gets even more interesting. The Supreme Court case of Roper
v. Simmons was a perfect example of that. Roper v. Simmons presented the Supreme Court with two
questions: 1) whether or not the execution of those who were sixteen or seventeen at the time of a
crime is cruel and unusual punished and 2) does is violate the Eighth and Fourteenth Amendment.
The main audience for this particular case is the general American population, and specifically
affects the juvenile population.
Christopher Simmons, seven months shy of his 18th birthday, planned and implemented the murder
of an innocent woman. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
KENTUCKY, 492 U.S. 361 1989) The Court later ruled in Atkins v. Virginia (2002) that, mentally
retarded persons were exempt from the death penalty as well, a further sign of society s changing
standards. (ATKINS v. VIRGINIA, 536 U.S. 320 2002) The decision in Atkins explained that due to
their impairments, it is highly unlikely that such offenders could ever deserve capital punishment.
(ATKINS v. VIRGINIA, 536 U.S. 320 2002) The reasoning in Atkins is applied to the Simmons
decision. Kennedy argues that because individuals under 18 are categorically less culpable than the
average criminal, they should not deserve the death penalty. Kennedy adds that there are three
differences between juveniles under 18 and adult offenders. First, juveniles often lack the maturity
found in adults, a trait that is understandable among the young and adolescents are overrepresented
statistically in virtually every category of reckless behavior. (ROPER v. SIMMONS, (03 633) 543
U.S. 551 2005) The second difference is, that they are more vulnerable to negative influences or
outside pressures and this could lead to deviant behavior. (ROPER v. SIMMONS, (03 633) 543
U.S. 551 2005) Lastly, Kennedy asserts that the character of a juvenile is not as well formed as an
adult and that personality traits in adolescents are transitory. (ROPER v. SIMMONS, (03 633) 543
U.S. 551 2005) Moreover, because of the comparative immaturity and irresponsibility of

The Outsiders In The Outsiders By S. E Hinton
The book The Outsiders by S.E Hinton, Ponyboy forms a different identity throughout the book.
At the beginning of the book, Ponyboy s identity is an outsider to the greasers and to his
community. He does different things, like watch movies without being disturbing, he s good in
school and he likes to read books. Out of the gang Ponyboy didn t have friends. His gang doesn t
read books or watch movies like he does. The greasers just work hard and long on cars at gas
stations. Ponyboy has potential though, he is smart. Ponyboy s identity is different then the the
others in his gang. On page 2, it says, When I see a movie with someone it s kind of
uncomfortable, like having someone read your book over your shoulder. I m different that way.
He felt like he was an outsider to everyone because he was different. People in his gang had gone
to jail and Ponyboy stayed good, different. In the text Doing the Right Thing, four football
players are different than other people. They did the right thing when others would ve stolen.
They acted different, like Ponyboy. They text said, Thomas James pulled out $5 to cover the
batteries and a video cord they needed, waved it at the surveillance camera above the cash
register and laid it on the counter... One of them took 80 cents out of his pocket and laid it on the
counter too. Tax. The four football players acted differently then how people normally do. Like
Ponyboy they don t act the same, they are good. Ponyboy s first identity is an

  • 2. Theme Of A Worn Path A Worn Path by Eudora Welty, written in 1941, is a short story about an elder, Negro woman, Phoenix Jackson, traveling along a well worn path to an unknown destination. As the title suggests, this is a path that she has taken many times. The main theme represented in A Worn Path is that a person would endure and overcome the forces of nature and society for those they love. Eudora Welty introduces the character Phoenix Jackson in a way that illustrates that Phoenix is a person who endures forces of nature and society; and the meaning of her name is a large hint to the theme of endurance. William M. Jones introduces the idea that Phoenix is a reference to the legendary bird that is reborn throughout time; one that endures. In his literary critic, William M. Jones writes, The references at the beginning of the story announce rather clearly that a comparison with the legendary bird is intended. The similarity becoming more pronounced as the story progresses. The reference to the bird of endurance can be seen throughout the story, especially when the reader concludes that Phoenix does not remember why she is traveling the path. Her loss of memory is a reference to the Phoenix dying; and at the end of the story, Phoenix remembering her reason for the journey is a representation of being reborn. Welty s diction and the time period that the short storywas written also gives the reader context into Phoenix s endurance of the wrath of society. Phoenix is described as an ... Many valid arguments for what period we are in today including the Big Data Age, Social Age, or even Information Age. However, I think a valid argument can also be made for the Glass Age. Throughout this course we have covered many topics while using a wide variety of equipment and technology all made possible through the advancements of glass. From window panes absorbing UV radiation, microscopelenses or eye glasses, to the fiberoptic cable that keeps us in an information age. Todays world would not be possible without glass. The first manmade glass was discovered in eastern Mesopotamia around 3500bc. Around 2000 years later glass vessels were being created and more and more glass was being used. At this time glass was still in its infancy and very little was known about it. However, shortly after this, glass technology started to increase at a drastic rate as information about glass was transferred from civilization to civilization. In the first century glass blowing was discovered which allowed for more consistent results and was much easier to create. Around the same time mold blowing also took affect which created consistent results and allowed for easy production of vessels. Glass blowing flourished during the roman empire and the romans even had glass windows on some of their important buildings. It wasn t until the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Off Balance Research Paper Fundamentals of an Off Balance When I first joined judo I never expected to learn so many things in just a small timely manner. Within the first week I already learned how to do throws, takedowns, and submissions which were the basic essentials to mastering judo. Judo explained in the English dictionary means an unarmed combat intended to train the body and mind. The objective is to either throw or takedown an opponent to the ground, immobilize or otherwise subdue an opponent with a pin, or force an opponent to submit with a joint lock or a choke. As I continued on doing judo I could not figure out how to successfully execute a throw during the opponent s brief moment of off balance , until one of my upper classmate taught me how to do it correctly because it all depended entirely on timing.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It s a simple push, shove, or pull in a direction that will take the opponent off balance. In order to win, the opponent must be thrown with control, force, and on their back. By either pushing, shoving, or pulling an opponent off balance, the execution of the actual throw is made substantially easier since they will be leaning in that direction. Think of an off balance in Judo like pushing someone forward and quickly extending a foot out so that they trip and fall. This example shows how timing is everything, extend the foot too late after the push and they won t trip, too early and they might just stumble a bit. It s a crude example, but it shows the relationship between off balance and timing of the execution. Much like how one must quickly extend a foot at the right moment, a Judoka has but a few seconds to off balance and throw an opponent all in one continuous and fluid motion. The timing of the throw during the off balance will determine if it is successful. Without the off balance, a throw is conceivably possible yet substantially more difficult to pull ... • 5. The Chimney Sweeper By William Walker Analysis In Songs of Innocence and of Experience, the two poems The Chimney Sweeper highlight the injustice during Blake s time such as: poverty, child labour, and abuse. The Chimney Sweeper illustrates William Blake s understanding of innocence and experience by exposing the hypocritical nature of authority during the 1700s. This essay will begin with explaining Blake s concept of innocence and experience . Firstly, William Blakeperceives innocence and experience as contrasting states of the soul. As a result, the narrators are examples of his understanding through their accounts of their life. In The Chimney Sweeper (1789), William Blake wrote: And so Tom awoke and we rose in the dark And got with our bags brushes to work Tho the morning was cold, Tom was happy Warm, So if all do their duty, they need not fear harm. (Blake, Lines 21 24). The boy and Tom Dacre are innocent through their optimism in their hopes despite their harsh reality. The essence of Blake s understanding of innocence is the ability to be joyful and celebratory with hope. In contrast, the narrator in The Chimney Sweeper (1794) knows that there is no hero or escape from the life of a Chimney Sweep. Essentially showing experience as the acceptance of the present reality as the only reality. On top of that, William Blake s concepts of experience can be further explained through the imagery used by the narrator in The Chimney Sweeper (1794). In The Chimney Sweeper (1794), William Blake writes: And because i am happy, dance sing, They think they have done me no injury: And are gone to praise God his Priest King Who make up a heaven of our misery. ( Lines 9 12). The boy shows a full understanding of the hopelessness in his situation without interruption from dreams or thoughts of being saved. He thoroughly explains the misuse of power in authority in his situation. However, Tom Dacre vividly describes his friend s dream in two stanzas. The children in The Chimney Sweeper (1789) do not fully comprehend the harsh reality of chimney sweeps and instead clings to the ideas of hope. William Blake illustrates his concepts through highlighting the hypocrisy during the 1700s. The life of a chimney sweeper was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When looking to introduce GAP shirts in Turkey for the female market, there are many cultural considerations that must be taken into account. Traditional clothing must be addressed, along with textiles. We believe that these products will be successful due to the popularity of American style within the target market. Also, the styles and materials that the company uses already have some overlap with the type of clothingthat is popular in the cities. Turkish business practices and procedures are much different than those in U.S. and other countries, so it is crucial for GAP to be aware of business etiquette before entering this market. For the Turkish, meeting times to discuss business practices are vital. Since religion is particularly important, members are expected to be on time, and to have organized appointments and meetings around the five daily prayer times and holidays. In Turkey, business is a serious matter and is treated very formally. It is important for GAP representatives to greet Turkish members with a firm handshake and engage in small talk when entering into conversation. In the Turkish culture, if a person immediately begins discussing business, rather than getting to know their counterparts, the host may take offense to these actions and consider them rude. Additionally, individuals generally stand close during conversation and do not require as much personal space as other cultures. Bowlby indicated that the attachment style developed in infancy, has a true correlation to our adult relationships, and is a result of recurring interpersonal interactions with caregivers during childhood. Children develop different attachment styles based on their experience and interactions with primary caregivers. Several various ways of evaluating attachment in children have been introduced. One such evaluation mentioned in our textbook, Lifespan Development, 2014 the Strange Situation Protocol was developed by Mary Ainsworth (Boyd Bee, 2014, p.136 ). These attachments styles have been linked to how we form attachments as adolescents and even into adulthood and consists of four main attachment styles; Secure, Insecure avoidant, Insecure ambivalent and insecure disorganized. Secure Attachment Style is described as a pattern of attachment in which an infant readily separates from the parent, seeks proximity when stresses, and uses the parent as a safe base for exploration (Boyd Bee, 2014, p.136). The no homework policy of a second grade teacher in Texas went viral last week, earning praise from parents across the country who lament the heavy workload often assigned to young students. Brandy Young told parents she would not formally assign any homeworkthis year, asking students instead to eat dinner with their families, play outside and go to bed early. But the question of how much work children should be doing outside of school remains controversial, and plenty of parents take issue with no homework policies, worried their kids are losing a potential academic advantage. Here s what you need to know: Play Video The issue For decades, the homework standard has been a 10 minute rule, which recommends a daily maximum of 10 minutes of homework per grade level. Second graders, for example, should do about 20 minutes of homework each night. High school seniors should complete about two hours of homework each night. The National PTA and the National Education Associationboth support that guideline. But some schools have begun to give their youngest students a break. A Massachusetts elementary school has announced a no homework pilot program for the coming school year, lengthening the school day by two hours to provide more in class instruction. We really want kids to go home at 4 o clock, tired. We want their brain to be tired, Kelly Elementary School Principal Jackie Glasheen said in an interview with a local TV station. We want them to enjoy their families. We want them to go to soccer practice or football practice, and we want them to go to bed. And that s it. A New York City public elementary school implemented a similar policy last year, eliminating traditional homework assignments in favor of family time. The change was quickly met with outrage from some parents, though it earned support from other education leaders. According to the MacMillan English Dictionary (MacMillan, 2012:online), to paraphrase is to express what someone else has said or written using different words, especially in order to make it shorter or clearer. The phrases in red are directly copied from the source or changed only slightly in form. Even if the student writer had acknowledged Chase as the source of the content, the language of the passage would be considered plagiarized because no quotation marks indicate the phrases that come directly from Chase. In 2011 the Obama administration changed some guidelines about sexual assault in title IX. These changes would include many changes that colleges would have to make to comply with the new title IX rules and regulations. Since 2011 there has been questions regarding if the changes were doing what they were made to do, which was to further protect each party. University s claim that every case they investigate is to their best of their ability but the accused and even the victims have reported what they thought of as a failure of a fair trial. Also, reports seem to show a favor to female genders and discriminate males that are involved in an investigation. One of the most debated topics of the 2011 changes to title IX is the differences between a school trial and a criminal trial. Some people claim that schools sometimes fail or rush to hand over any investigations over to the authorities. When a case is changed into a criminal trial often noted is that the trial is much longer than a school trial and the accuser is sometimes harder to prove that they are guilty. Fiction has probably existed since the human brain was capable of imagination, either for distraction or for the more functional purpose of envisioning hunt scenarios when our nomadic ancestors would need to survive. Fiction can be defined as a literary tool that fools readers or theatre goers into thinking that the author possesses certain knowledge about the world (Plato et al., 1963) but is usually understood as a world or scenario that is created by human imagination. However, that doesn t necessarily make it untrue, as fiction can be based on reality and can become a useful mechanism to convey important messages and help shape... Maths is, after all, like any written language, glorified scribbling that somehow resonates with meaning in our minds. Take as an example 4 = 2 + 2 . This string of symbols translates itself into what we understand is an equation: the two sides of the = sign are the same. However, neither 4 not 2 + 2 exist. They are not visually identical. Yet somehow we accept that connecting them with the = symbol indicates that their numerical value is equivalent. Like fiction, maths merely requires us to suspend our disbelief long enough for us to understand whatever story or message the author is trying to impart. This philosophical position is called Mathematical Fictionalism. Its proponents believe that mathematics are purely fictional but are still functional as long as its purpose is not meant to be a mirror of reality (Leng, 2016). However, this position calls into question the validity of mathematics. Fiction, if assumed completely truthful, becomes a lie. So if mathematics are purely a human made language created to describe phenomena that cannot be described in another language, how can we ascertain its precision and how much power should we give it in a discussion? Mathematical entities do not exist concretely, yet we give them characteristics and magnitudes that allow them to be ranked, ordered and even to interact amongst ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

To fill the feeling she used her husband who then she held the same hatred for. I killed one man, I ve killed two (75). Plath does not literally mean killed when she metaphorically writes but only that they are out of her life. Another literary device that Plath uses is connecting the poem to herself. Usually it is a norm to keep the author separate from the poem, but in Plath s case it is a different. She is writing about her own father. Knowing this sends the meaning of the work to a different level of context and makes it stronger because it is truly how she feels about the loss of her own father. Not only is she is explaining that she does not like her father, she tells how the entire community despises her father, And the villagers never liked you. They are dancing and stamping on you (77). A major hit on her father in this line, writing that the herself and the villagers are dancing on his grave enforces the fact that she hated her father. Plath writes that she goes back to dance on his grave because she is not at peace with the hate she has for her father yet. The feelings left after him dying are still there. Although Plath did write about her own father she still created characters with in the poem who portrayed her husband and father. With over one million soldiers having completed anywhere from one to three tours in combat in the last 10 years, the real conflict might just be inside the soldier. An Earthquake Of The Francisco Earthquake Giovanni Lozano Professor Tod Benedict GLY 1000 21 October 2015 1906 San Francisco Earthquake An earthquake is the vibration of the Earth produced by the rapid release of energy. Most earthquakes occur at a plate boundary, usually along the Circum Pacific belt. They tend to be caused by the slippage along large fracture in the Earth s crust, such as a fault for example. However, they can also occur from a volcanic eruption, or an atomic explosion. There are two different types of shocks to a major earthquake; there is a foreshock and an aftershock. The foreshock concedes of smaller earthquakes that precede a major one by some time period, and an aftershock that concedes of small earthquakes due to the adjustment of the crust after the major earthquake. Earthquakes affect numerous things, from soil liquefaction to construction, and the rupture of power, gas, and water lines. There are two ways to measuring the size of an earthquake, those are intensity and magnitude. The intensity is a measure of the degree of an earthquake shaking at a given locale based on the amount of damage, measured through the Modified Mercalli Intensity Scale which bases of the surveys of those whom were affected, and ranges from 1 to a 12. The magnitude is the total amount of energy released at the source of an earthquake, which tends to be measured on the Richter magnitude scale.
