Analysis Of Ray Bradbury s Dr. Neff
Kiersta Walley
American Modern Novel
Dr. Neff
April 27th, 2015
Final Paper
Is this book worth the read? Sometimes it is hard to remember that Ray Bradbury tackles the art of
short story in a very unusual way. His collections of short stories are often tied together by shared sub
themes or settings, although each story could stand on it s own. Such is the case here, though the
running theme to the Illustrated Man collection is mostly a concept. Apparently the stories are told by
a man s tattoos, but do not worry about that too much. The true theme holding this group of stories
together is inspections of human nature and mankind s place in the universe. Bradbury s classic
examinations of the gloomy and downhearted side of humanity are ... Show more content on

He is known as the Illustrated Man who is looking for a job. The main character went to be tattooed
across his entire body as a way to continue to work at a circus, showing off to people who come to
view the art he exhibited. His tattoos, he told him, where given to him by a witch from our future that
he wishes to find and kill. When the sun goes down, the tattoos come to life, and play out little dramas
upon the man flesh. The man decides to watch as the Illustrated Man sleeps, and what he sees are the
stories that are portrayed in this novel. Each of the stories covered in this book comes from the drama
performed out by the man s tattoos. The tattoos plays out different eighteen stories, but with all of the
stories being told, the man finds one last tattoo forming: it showed the Illustrated Man strangling him
to death. By and well built, the stories are independent to each other, which means we can go from a
strange future where one family s house takes care of all their materials to a poor farmer who manages
to avoid the end of the by being in one of his own. Still, there are few themes that run throughout the
book that are fascinating to look at.
The stories in this collection are unusual but a few common themes arise. One of these themes is the
way we relate to technology. It is pretty obvious in the first tale of the book, The Veldt. In this story,
we meet a family who are completely reliant on on their house. It is a technological phenomenon,

The Importance Of Typology In Christianity
Christianity has been from the beginning a typological religion. Typology in Christian theology and
Biblical exegesis is a doctrine or theory concerning the relationship between the Old and New
Testaments . (Merriam Webster 868) Perhaps the single most important concept for understanding
early Christianity is typology. Typology is a form of study of literature identifying symbols especially
in the Bible. This system of groupings, usually called types, the members of which are identified by
postulating specified attributes that are mutually exclusive and collectively exhaustive groupings set
up to aid demonstration or inquiry by establishing a limited relationship among phenomena. Typology
is interpreted throughout text in American literature such as William Bradford s Plymouth Plantation,
Jonathan Edward s Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God and Thomas Paine Common Sense. During
the Enlightenment, the meaning of Protestant identity became increasingly vague; typology took on
the hazy significance of image and symbol; what passed for the divine plan had lost its strict
grounding sculpture; providence itself was shaken loose from its religious frame work to became part
of the belief in the human progress. The eighteenth century clergy took advantage of this movement to
shift the focus of figural authority, from Bible history to the American experience. In effect, they
substituted a regional for a biblical past, sanctified the American present as a movement from promise

Challenging But Rewarding World Of A Hotel Manager
Challenging yet Rewarding World of a Hotel Manager
The hotel industry is one of the most important segments of the Hospitality in large. Working in hotels
allows its employees to have fun, emerge in new cultures on a daily basis and be able to advance
further in the career. The lodging industry is one of the most rewarding, yet most challenging fields to
work for. Confucius once said Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your
life . Some people will choose this career path in need of money, but those who choose it out of
passion will understand the power in the saying above. The lodging industry is a more than $155
billion industry that includes approximately 53,000 properties with almost 5,000,000 guestrooms
(Walker, 2015, p. 76). This field is continuously growing due to the trend of using management
contracts and franchising, since it allows brands to expand rapidly without using their own financial
resources (Walker, 2015, p. 76). In today s technology driven society it is more important to deliver
and over exceed guest expectations than ever. The influence of social media has increased drastically,
which can either help or hurt the business due positive or negative word of mouth. Working in a hotel
takes a lot of courage, hard work and perseverance, but it also takes a lot of passion, love and
hospitality spirit to overcome difficult situations. The purpose of this research paper is to explore the
career of a hotel general manager in order

Examples Of Ideal Beauty And The Venus Of Willendorf
Ideal Beauty and the Venus of Willendorf The Venus of Willendorf is said to be the first masterpiece
of world sculptures. It belongs to a series of Venus figurines of the Paleolithic period or Old Stone
Age. This period was characterized by crude stone and bone weapons, cave paintings, and sculptures.
The Venus was found in a small village of Austria called Willendorf, hence the name of the Venus.
This groundbreaking discovery was made in 1908 by the archaeologist Josef Szombathy. However, it
was not until 1990 when we were able to predict the time when the sculpture was carved. It is believed
to have been made between 25,000 B.C.E and 20,000 B.C.E. The sculpture is only 4,4 inches tall and
it is made of oolitic limestone, which is a carbonate rock commonly found in India, around the
Caribbean and Pacific Ocean Islands, but not Austria. Therefore, archeologists believe that this
sculpture was moved from its original place of creation. Continuing with that idea, because of the fact
that the sculpture does not have defined feet so it is not able to stand and that it is small and malleable,
historians believe that it was originally made to be carried around as a talisman or a sign of good luck,
especially for fertility purposes. It is important to notice how the structure of this sculpture highlights
some human features (breasts, belly, hips, vulva) while minimizing others, such as arms and legs. The
Venus represents the first aesthetic ideas of our early history, which has

Analysis Of Philippa Gregory s Three Sisters Three...
Three Sisters, Three Queens, a historical fiction novel written by Philippa Gregory, takes place in 16th
century Europe, an era characterized by powerful monarchs whose personal and political life are
incredibly complex and intertwined. In particular, this story focuses on three women who will become
the queens of Scotland, France, and England, respectively: Margaret, her sister, Mary, and their sister
in law, Katherine of Aragon. The story is told from Margaret s point of view, who provides a unique
yet often disregarded female perspective of this era intended to demonstrate that these ruling women
are just as important to history as their male counterparts, namely Henry VIII and James IV. The novel
is centered around two types of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It would spoil everything if Mary s is French cut or more richly embroidered, or more fashionable
(293 294). Her superficial nature and blatant sense of entitlement resulting from her privileged
upbringing becomes almost comical, especially as she is so heavily concerned with her possessions
even while her country is engulfed in both civil war and war with England. Nevertheless, Margaret
still does mature with age, as she and her sisters come to realize that they should be working together
rather than separately: We spent our time admiring and envying each other and we should have been
guiding and protecting each other (544). Ironically, on that very same page Margaret expresses delight
over her sisters misfortunes: I am in a better place than both my sisters. I cling to this little joy, as
stubborn as when we were girls jockeying for supremacy (544). Margaret s fickle nature embodies her
time period, where many of the monarchs share similar competitive desires and betrayal is
commonplace. On an even grander scale, Gregory highlights a natural human flaw and defies the idea
of a perfect protagonist. Even though Margaret changes for the better, a little part of her young and
selfish self will always remain within her. Margaret is not always a likable character, but she is
certainly a relatable one, whose experiences to achieve power and happiness teach her that she should
have confidence in herself and her sisters to defy gender norms

Effect Teaching Method for Calculus
The majority of instructors believe that the best method for training scientists is the traditional lecture.
In 2011, the Mathematical Association of America surveyed over 700 calculus instructors on what
they believed was the most effective way to teach. Two thirds of those surveyed agree with the
statement: Calculus students learn best from lectures, provided they are clear and well prepared
(Bressoud 2011). There is a common notion in teaching that, because the instructor is the expert in the
room, it his/her job to take the lead role in guiding students through the material. Instructors with this
traditional view would argue that because students are novices, active engagement techniques where
students are teaching each other could only lead to an increase in confusion about the concepts.
In addition to serving as the expert, most instructors also believe that their role is to meet their
students expectations in the classroom. Students can be resistant, at least at first, to new instructional
techniques. If students want informative and well structured lectures, then the traditional lecture meets
students expectations by allowing them to passively sit, listen, and take notes. To summarize, even
though both students and instructors have considerable experience in teaching and learning, this does
not directly translate to them being experts in the assessment of various teaching practices.
Science education literature has dozens of studies that quantitatively

Horatio s Betrayal In Hamlet
Betrayal is defined as treachery or disloyalty. In the play Hamlet by William Shakespeare this is what
ultimately led Hamlet and his loved ones to their deaths. From Claudius and Gertrude to Polonius,
Ophelia, and Laertes. By the end of the play basically everyone except for Horatio has betrayed
Hamlet in some way, even Rosencrantz and Guildenstern. The first act of betrayal is done by
Claudius. He killed his brother, the king, by poisoning him. Oh, my offence is rank. It smells to

Female genital cutting (FGC) has always been a topic of controversy. In the Western world this
practice is seen as a cruel and inhumane act that takes away women right and the ability to make their

important part of many cultures. For societies where female genital cutting is practiced, women find

In the modern world people rely on organizations and systems for prosperity, insurance, etc. In most
of African societies like the Hofriyat, kinship still plays a major role in being social security, health
care and so on relying on the relationship with relatives and friends. Marriage became perceived as an
important factor since it forms the basic source of personal identity and economic advantages (Boddy
2007, p.61). Collective interest between individuals is pursued through marriages arranged by the
parents while subordinating the sexuality of young women and men to comply with the interest of the
social group according to the elders (Boddy 2007, 62). In Hofriyat society, sexual absence is a matter
of family honors. Failure to comply with this norm can lead to the family losing honor and the risk of
jeopardizing the chances of getting married, which will affect its economic statues, political leverage
and continuity of family line (Boddy 2007, 62). Looking at this aspect it is not surprising that honor is
mostly assigned in relations to young women. Men are also restricted to some behaviors, however
women lives are more cautiously patrolled (Boddy 2007, 62). This does not mean that women are
powerless, as an act of force is too considerate shameful, subordinates must desire to act properly.

Gender Discrimination
Our social justice issue is gender discrimination. Gender Discrimination is a major thing going on in
our world today. Therefore, gender discrimination happens in things such as sports, education, health,
employment, laws, and in different countries. Gender discrimination was a major thing in the past, and
is still a major thing today. Men continually think women are weak, and so women are targeted more
in crimes. They also think that women won t stand up for themselves, and women continually let men
bring them down because they aren t brave enough. In jobs they believe women won t work, and that
women aren t capable enough to do the job, so women end up getting paid less or have to work
ridiculously short hours. Today in our century, women are targeted more than men because they are
considered weak. Being labeled weak makes women are more vulnerable to at least one form of
abuse. 1 in 3 women are abused in some form at a time of their life by a man. Women are targeted for
crimes, such as home break ins, because if they live on their own, they are thought to not be able to
defend themselves that well. Women are also being killed all the time. In India, women are burned to
death if they can t meet financial requirements, while men aren t. In Egypt, women are killed if they
do something considered unclean in their family or outside their family. In South Asia more than 2
million baby girls are killed or abandoned to die because they are considered a financial burden to the

The Competitors Of The Fitness Industry
INTRODUCTION The area of Shred415 that I research was the competitors of the fitness industry.
From big gyms with basketball courts, pools, and juice bars such as Lifetime Fitness to videos you can
watch and work out to at home like P90X, there are thousands of different places to turn to improve
your fitness and health. However, Shred415 takes a new approach at fitness with small classes of
about 30 people that work out in intervals of either 5, 10, or 15 minutes. During these intervals, people
alternate between cardio work on the treadmill and weight training. Shred415 is already taking a

However, with this new business plan, Shred415 can make more people become shredders by making
their gyms big enough to withstand more people and by introducing a pre recorded training video for
the customers to watch while working out. The new business plan is to be able to get more customers
in to workout and be able to get in without scheduling a month in advance. Also, it will address the
problem of having a shortage of trained instructors for their gyms. Question We came to our idea by
asking ourselves, what are the biggest problems with Shred415 right now and how can we take this
already unique fitness club to the next level. Shred415 already has a lot of strengths. It is an
innovative new way of working out and the people love it, as I stated above. Ultimately, our idea came
from the side of your customers because they are what drive your company. We asked ourselves, how
can Shred415 expand enough where they can keep their waitlist to a minimum and become more
available for customers? And how can they address their shortage of trained instructors? Situation
Currently Shred415 is doing a great job at drawing customers in and keeping them loyal. However, the
problems for Shred415 right now are their availability and the ability to get enough trained instructors
on their staff. As of right now, the maximum amount of people

Changing Picture of the Look of a Family
Introduction In the past there was a clear picture of what a family would typically look like. In today s
world it doesn t have to consist of a mother, a father and their biological children living together under
one roof. It can consist of just a grandfather and his grandson, because they are still considered family.
Throughout years families can create and indoctrinate new members. The power of the family is such
that despite the possible separation of members by vast distances, sometimes even death, the family s
influence remains (Goldenberg Goldenberg, p. 2, 2012). Even when a family member experiences a
temporary or permanent sense of alienation from the family, he or she can never truly relinquish
family membership (Goldenberg Goldenberg, p. 2, 2012). The family life cycle continuously evolves
throughout the years. Families continue to remain the foundation of most people s lives. They can
provide the security, support, and intimacy people need (Kirst Ashman Hull, p.329, 2012). Within
families there should always be structure. Family structure refers to the organization of relationships
and patterns of interaction occurring within the family. In addition, family structure will vary
dramatically depending from one family to another (Kirst Ashman Hull, p.334, 2012). As social
workers, we can work on a micro, mezzo and or macro level. We can encounter individual clients who

Compare And Contrast The Three Philosophies Of The Zhou...
During one of the more important Chinese Dynasties, the Zhou Dynasty, three philosophies arose to
find the best way to have peace and order . China had many social, political, and economic problems.
Because of this, China split into three philosophies. These philosophies include Legalism,
Confucianism, and Daoism, all of these have some similarities and differences.
Confucianism is the philosophy that emphasizes proper behavior. Confucianism was founded by
Confucius, who is a famous Chinese philosopher. Confucius teachings permeated society , spreading
teachings of peace and order.Teaching about peace and order will help control their society.

that they should enforce strict laws with harsh punishments for negative behavior and rewards for
positive behavior. If you were a Legalist, you should behave or you are going to be in a great deal of
trouble. Rulers were often overthrown and were not to trust a single person, including their family.
Hanfeizi taught rulers that they need to have absolute power and military force backing them up. In
order to be a ruler, you needed to be a strong, strict, and independent person. A strength of Legalism is
that they were strict, which helped them control their society. A weakness of Legalism is that the rulers
were often overthrown. Legalism has very strong qualities which make them a positive philosophy. In

People are not forced to exercise so they could be equal with the stronger; rather the strong must equal
themselves by adding weights to make them weaker. This produces a sickly and depressing view of
society. The people themselves become lesser. After time, the dictatorship of downward living
becomes almost a way of live. George has been carrying this burden of forty seven pounds for so long
now around his neck that he says it does not bother him anymore. It has become apart of him. When
one has become desensitized from the situation, there is no hope for an uprising or change.
This is why the person who is in their mid thirties living with their parents all their life are most likely
not going to move out anytime soon on their own will. After a longer period of time, it almost
becomes comfortable and natural. To move on would actually be harder to accomplish.
This imagery shows the complete control on all aspects of life by the dictator. Any type of free thought

Choosing favorite Beatles songs is a bit like choosing a favorite child, it s damn near. They put out
four psychedelic albums (if you count Yellow Submarine, which I m not), and three post psychedelic
albums. In the 8 years they recorded, they released 12 studio albums, not counting the US releases as
many of those were compilation records. To be honest, I was never a huge fan of the mop tops era
Beatles and songs like I Want to Hold Your Hand and She Loves You. However, I did include a few
from that time period. I would love to hear your top 10 to see if we match up at all.
Number Ten: All You Need Is Love. Written after only two weeks after the release of Sgt. Pepper, All
You Need Is Love was specifically written for the first satellite hookup between 25 countries called
Our World. The song boasted an optimistic vibe during the summer of love in 1967. The song featured
many prominent artists singing on the chorus. Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Marianne Faithful, and
Eric Clapton were just a few of the talents who appeared on the recording. The track also included
many guest musicians playing everything from violin to trumpet. The Beatles themselves played
unconventional instruments: Lennon on harpsichord, McCartney on double bass and Harrison on
violin. The track was made available on Magical Mystery Tour and Yellow Submarine.
Number Nine: In My Life. Again, Lennon credits Bob Dylan as well as journalist Kenneth Allsop for
bringing him out of his shell as

The Conflict Over Territory Is Because Of Religious Belief...
Are religious beliefs about and attachments to the land more of a hindrance than a help in finding
peace in Israel Palestine? In your response compare and contrast Jewish and Islamic perspectives.
To a certain extent, the current conflict in Israel can be defined as religious; this is predominantly due
to the beliefs and attachments Abrahamic religions hold to the land. The conflict stems from the
inability to share ownership of what the religions consider to be their holy land (Dowty, 2012, p.2);
thus, territory is the foremost cause of the Israel/Palestine conflict, but it is questionable as to whether
this is a religious matter or a political matter (Eugene Korn, 2008, p.x). Consequently, this essay will
discuss and conclude whether the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, religion has become intertwined in a dispute over territory because both parties have used
religious beliefs to defend their nationalist attachments; thus, religious beliefs and attachments to the
land hinder peace because the opposing beliefs conflict one another causing increased tension. But, it
is disputable as to whether religion or political attachments have more of a role in preventing peace.
The Jewish involvement with Israel/Palestine can be traced back to 2000 BCE, when Abraham, who
the Jews claim is their oldest ancestor (Little, 2007, p.303), followed a message from God to
immigrate to the Land of Canaan (Genesis 12:5), which is modern day Israel. Since this point, the
Jewish people have fought to reside in Israel because it is the land that God promised them in the
covenant he created with Abraham. Although this ideology is rooted in the biblical rights to the land,
Theodore Herzl, who initiated Zionism to regain authority over Israel, intended for the movement to
be political (Little, 2007, p.305), thus

Public Relations ( Pr )
2.0 Introduction
Public Relations (PR) is a multifaceted function that plays a role in nearly every organisation in today
s society (Wilcox et al., 2013). Due to its complex nature, the definition of PR has changed
considerably over the past 70 years (Ledingham Bruning, 1998). This report aims to analyse how PR
can specifically support the DMD Foundation to achieve its awareness and fundraising objectives. A
common definition of PR will be examined, breaking down its key elements, followed by a discussion
regarding the overarching role of PR within organisations, specifically in the non profit sector,
highlighting the positive impact that PR could have on the DMD Foundation.
Discussion
3.1 Defining Public Relations
The subsequent definition aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the key elements
involved within the functions of the PR sector.
Public relations is the management function which evaluates public attitudes, identifies the policies
and procedures of an individual or an organisation with the public interest, and plans and executes a
program of action to earn public understanding and acceptance.
(Public Relations News, as cited in Grunig Hunt, 1984)
PR as a management function serves to promote the importance of PR departments within an
organisation (Gordon, 1997) and brings to the decision making table theories born of ongoing research
and data to drive organisational decisions (Smith, 2014). For example, modern PR is

John Winthrop A Model Of Christian Charity Summary
Critical Analysis Short Essay
John Winthrop: A Model of Christian Charity (City Upon a Hill)
John Winthrop s 1630 sermon, A Model of Christian Charity is one of the first examples of early
American exceptionalism . (Noll, 2012) In his sermon, Winthrop (1630) talks about how the citizens
in colonial America should set a good example for others, and obey God, as they are looked up to by
non Americans. This concept of America being chosen, or somehow unique in a divine manner was
the fundamental meaning of American exceptionalism to Puritan society. In his 2012 article for the
Journal of Church and State, Justin B. Litke argues that this concept of American exceptionalism was
first introduced to the American public through Winthrop s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Not to mention that the United States was not nearly as diverse as it is today. This is would give
Winthrop a completely different view of what imperialism would look like, and how it would be
executed in the mid 1600s. Litke (2012) considered most of the arguments for Winthrop s imperialism
to come from modern politicians, who clearly have a very different understanding of what imperialism
means. Although some do certainly see Winthrop as an early American imperialist, others do agree
with Litke for a variety of reasons. Noll (2012) argues that there was little in the way of American
ideals being spread throughout the world in Winthrop s sermon. Like Litke (2012), Noll (2012) agrees
that the sermon had much more of a focus on colonial American

The questions addressed in this particular hypothetical case distinguish between crimes (a) and (b),
both perpetrated by a person of generally well accepted standing. The only distinction between them is
in relation to the sentence imposed. The law does not prohibit the publication of an individual s
criminal convictions, irrespective of the type of crime or misdemeanor as seen in Campbell v Mirror
Group Newspapers Ltd.
Hence, the instance referred to here, concerning a news report regarding Malcolm Somebody being
charged of a sexual offence, demonstrate behaviour which is not fitting for a person of any particular
standing, therefore there is limited room for lowering individual any more in the eyes of society. At
any rate, hypothesis (b) would go before a jury. As long as the report only covers facts without any
additional sting, there is little or no legal remedy, not even a right to protection under the privacy
provisions .
Nevertheless, should the reporting go beyond the necessary degree of straight fact, the professor could
theoretically bring a case of defamation but would need to face the defence s plea of veritas. Still,
juries can be persuaded that newspaper reports can contain libel or defamatory statements. The

Industrial Revolution 3
INDUSTRIAL STUDIES ASSIGNMENT NO 1 Development of Engineering since the Industrial
Revolution The Main Outcomes of the Industrial Revolution The Industrial Revolution had a huge
impact on society. The major effects were socially and economically. It is rather difficult to date the
start of the industrial revolution but history books of today suggest the onset during the 18th century.
The change from agriculture to industry was vast and it must be remembered that England was the
first country to undergo this profound change. The initial effect on engineering industries arising at the
start of the Industrial Revolution were due partly to the geographical location of the resources i.e. coal
iron and water. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The manufacture of bicycles, aircraft, and most predominantly the motor car increased with the
utilisation of all forms of electrically powered machines. There were also increases in all forms of
electrical engineering from light bulbs and radios to generating plant and machinery. Natural
Resources e.g. Coal Petrochemicals The British coal industry was the major contributor to the
Industrial Revolution. The industry utilised the first steam powered engines of Newcommen and many
more that followed. As production grew from these applications the new railways were used to
transport the vast amounts of coal being produced. In 1830 steam power could wind men and coal up
and down a few hundred feet. By the 1860s there were pithead engines of 1500 hp. For 100 years from
1850 coal made up more than half of the railways freight. In 1913 one out of every 14 British workers
was employed at a coalmine. In the same year there were 3,289 pits. Coal was used to power the giant
iron works and the textile industry. The gasworks of the early 1800s were burning thousands of tons
per year. The coal used in these gasworks was roasted and this resulted in coke as a waste product.
This coke was then sold on to the ironworks. In the 1860s British engineers were still improving the
steam engine. But there French and German counterparts were short of steam coal so they turned there
attention to gas. A

Classroom Management Theory Essay
Students enter the classroom with differing personalities and levels of learning. Hence, it is important
that pre service teachers are equipped with knowledge and understanding of the different theories of
classroom management. Theories such as Goal Centered Theory [GCT], Cognitive Behavioural

offer students superlative conditions to succeed at school. Research recommends the adoption of a

24). To implement GCT effectively, teachers must be able to distinguish a student s individual
motivation to misbehave and negotiate alternative solutions to prevent their misbehaviour (Dempsey
Arthur Kelly, 2007, p.122: Lyons et al., p. 24). For example, by using preventative strategies such as
engaging in whole class discussions, explicit instructions, modelled consistency and offering choice
with rules, consequence and academic tasks, students may be able to recognise their personal
intentions and maintain suitable behaviours (Lyons et al., p. 24).
GCT has many strengths, for instance, it provides teachers with an effective framework to distinguish
their students motivation to misbehave. Furthermore, it helps students to recognise and adapt their
own misbehaviour that may arise from failure to meet social needs. GCT encourages constructive
classroom environments, where students are intrinsically motivated and actively involved in their
learning, thus they demonstrate accountability for their own academic achievement whilst considering
the needs of others. However, critics of GCT believe that not every student has the need to be socially
accepted and other reasons such as an inability to recognise motives or hidden motives may be
responsible for their misbehaviour (Lyons et al., 2014, p. 24). Moreover, teachers who have limited

Conflicts Within A Group And How A Manager Can Bring Up...
Conflicts can happen in everyday life with people and in organizations. Conflicts need to be handled
so that the situation does not escalate further. Most people look at conflicts as a bad situation, but not
all conflicts are bad, some are good, especially when discussing an idea within a group. In an
organization there are times when a conflict may need to happen for an issue to be resolved, but when
this happens the people involved need to look at if this conflict is really necessary to resolve the issue.
How to address conflicts in a group and how a manager can bring up the conflict without making them
worse is what will be discussed next. At many jobs there are projects given that have to be completed
in groups and they re more than likely is going to be people within the group that do not necessarily
agree on how the project should be completed. This can cause a conflict to arise and to resolve this
conflict requires all members of the group to have a say in the resolution. To ensure sufficient
discussion of contentious issues in a work group, I would have one person be in charge of the group.
This person would make sure that everyone had a turn to give their input and I would make it known
to all the group members that what is said cannot be held against the person who says it. When
managers need to bring up unspoken conflicts into the open without making them worse, it may be
best to have a third party present that can ensure that the issue is addressed

Almost all children will sometime be affected by death of someone they know or love, how well a
child understands and copes with the dying of someone, largely depends on how efficiently parents
explain dying and death to that child. Many adults refrain themselves from discussing this issue
simply because they are unsure of what actually to say. Adults who are scared of this topic will try to
avoid talking to their children about it. The avoidance from parents will only silence the child from the
pain that they feel and will not allow the child an opportunity to successfully grieve for their loss.
Parents who are willing to talk to their children openly and honestly about what has happened open
the door for the child to join the family in the grieving process. Open communication allows the child
to ask unanswered questions and slowly begin the grieving and healing process along with the support
of the family members.

The Physics of Hockey Essays
The Physics of Hockey
Physics is everywhere. Consequently, physics is a part of sports and more specifically, hockey. As the
scientific discoveries progressed with time, so did the advancements in the sport of hockey, reflecting
on how important and influential science truly is. Physics takes part in the ice, the skates, the
protective gear, the shots, goaltending, and all other aspects of ice hockey. Skates used to be more like
skis. Players glided on the ice rather than actually skated. Artifacts also show the use of animal bones
as skate blades as well. Currently, steal blades are used. There is a small arc groove on the blade that
provides the friction needed to counteract the slipperiness of the ice (Haché 37). The ... Show more

This does not mean that there is more heat but rather heat is applied more quickly (Haché 24).
The most basic and necessary skill in hockey is skating. Skating is made possible thanks to Newton s
Third Law. With every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. The blade applies force on the
ice and the ice pushes back on the blade causing a forward movement. To accelerate, players exert a
strong force on the lower part of their bodies by leaning forward. Gravity pulls down on a hockey
player s center of mass which torques him forward (Exploratorium 1). Skaters also skate and
accelerate while turning. Centripetal force enables the player to lean inward and create a sharp turn
(Haché 50).
Acceleration is negative for a braking skater and is determined by the friction force on the skate blade.
To achieve this, the skater turns their skates perpendicular to the direction of motion and digs the
blade into the ice, creating the greatest resistive force. The blade scrapes a layer of ice off the surface
and the player comes to a stop (Exploratorium 1).
Another large part of the sport is the physical contact. Hockey can turn into a brutal game with 220
pound men checking each other left and right. Because these men have large masses and fast
velocities, they have a lot of kinetic energy. The energy of each player before the collision is K = ½
mv2 and afterward (because their collisions are inelastic) their total energy = ½

Epic Of Gilgamesh Analysis
In the Epic of Gilgamesh , it is easy to conclude that Gilgamesh, the protagonist of the story, is the
hero. In Like Mayflies in a Stream , Gilgamesh is merely a scary person who appears in the story here

on, but the book is imprecise on one hero of the entire story. There are numerous characters that could
reflect hero aspects such as going on a quest, having another to help guide them, or facing trials.

This singular word, only , immediately tells us as a reader that they are looked down upon, are not as

when her pregnant stomach begins to show. Women, and girls for that matter, as Nameshda was only
13, were raped by Gilgamesh. Shamhat is the older sister in her family, yet her younger brother
Geshtu gets to make all of the decisions for the family. The scenarios in this book are contemplative of
how women are viewed and treated compared to the men of society. Patriarchy is correct by their
standards, and having women in any sort of important role is almost nonexistent. Due to this
condescending view, we can understand why it would be difficult to have Shamhat as the hero in this
story. If men are the superior ones, wouldn t it make sense to have a man as the hero? In the event that
a woman was a hero in this story, it may make readers predict that the entire society will change their
outlook on women by the end of the story. On the other hand, others may think that Roberts was trying
too hard to modernize this epic. With this issue, Roberts could fear that creating this story with a
female hero may be too contemporary and take away from the true epic. She already modernized the

Disadvantages And Disadvantages Of Genetically Modified Foods
Often a common question is whether the production of GM foods is a solution to the food crisis or a
disaster in the making. First off GMO (genetically modified organism) is the result of a laboratory
process where genes from the DNA of one species are extracted and artificially forced into the genes
of an unrelated plant or animal. The foreign genes may come from bacteria, viruses, insects, animals
or even humans. So essentially it is taking food, modifying food using a gene that solves an obstacle
and putting it on the market for us to eat. Some of the advantages of GM foods are that they are better
for the environment. GMOs are adapted in such a way that many plants don t require pesticides or
other chemicals that impact on the earth. GMOs increase the flavour and longevity of the fruit.
Another advantage which is probably in the best interest of society is that fact that it often decreases
price of products and often becomes more affordable. Although research and testing is not cheap, once
it is on the market the prices of your normal GM foods are substantially more affordable. With all the
advantages comes the counter, disadvantage. GM foods often cause cross contamination where pollen
from genetically modified foods are also contaminated. When GMOs are around other plants often the
pollen can drift over to the wrong plants and create plants that have resistance to the conditions that
were meant for the crops to be resistant to. Essentially GMOs potentially have the

Mediator As Impartial Third Parties
Mediators serve as impartial third parties who help settle disputes between people. Their role is to aid
in communication between parties seeking a resolution in some matter. To accomplish this, mediators
must build credibility with the parties involved in the dispute and must garner confidence in their
abilities from those with whom they are working. They are able to achieve this when they demonstrate
the expertise necessary to manage the process of communication between the parties and help each
understand the other s position and goals. Mediators gain this proficiency by understanding the
complexities that cause conflict. In system level conflict, matters become exacerbated by the number
of participants and issues involved. In order to effectively help resolve system level conflict, mediators
must understand the individual parts, and how they are interrelated and operating, in order to best
serve the collective unit. Royce Kellogg certainly is culpable for the mess in which he finds himself
while Susan Barlow also shares in that responsibility. Neither the client nor the consultant fully
understood the effort and level of involvement they needed to provide in order to achieve their goals

The Change Of English Language
Language is not consistent, it is changing by its nature, either because of innovation, technology, war
or someone s mistakes. English has developed over more than 1500 years since Anglo Saxon invasion
in AD 450 as they brought a set of Anglo Frisian (Anglo German) dialect, which became known as
Old English. This time was the beginning of the development of English language.
The change of English language is divided into four phases: Old English, Middle English, Early
Modern English and Late Modern English. The period of Old English was roughly between 400 and
1100. It was the time when English developed from Latin as it borrowed many words via church. At
that time the language was also largely affected by Scandinavians after invasion and ... Show more

Sometimes, some words fall out of usage and replaced by other for example vinyl is replaced by
M.P.3. All of this is explained by the functional theory, which suggests language always changes and
adapts to the needs of its users. So, people create new words when they need them.
On another hand, words can be created by accident. In 1958, Charles Hockett came up with theory
that shows that random errors and event have an influence on language change. For example,
predictive text messaging is the one example of random fluctuation. Again the language is affected by
technology change and development, today s phones will estimate what word one is writing and finish
it or it can correct any spelling mistakes one have made. Modern phones would automatically add an
apostrophe in its no matter whether it is an adjective or short form for it is or it has . Thus the theory
shows that society s mistakes could also influence the language change.
Another theory that describes how and why new word enter English language is S Curve Model,
which is base on the idea that language change can occur at slower pace then it increases speed as it
becomes wore accepted, therefore creating curve resembling letter S . The model is based on Chen s
idea. For example slang tends to spread in particular way, first when the new slang term appears it will
be used by the smallest group of people and then it might be picked up by

Tamworth Pig Essay
The Tamworth originated in Ireland where they were known as Irish Grazers , they were given that
name because they were very good eaters. Sir Robert Peel, imported some Tamworth pigs to his
Drayton Manor estate in Tamworth, England because he was so fascinated with them. This is where
there name originated from. (Tamworth.typepad.com, 2017)
This breed of pig has a very distinctive appearance, they have a fine, straight haired red coat and
pricked ears with a long snout which is perfect for rotavating and finding food. Their snout also helps
their excellent sense of smell. Tamworth Pigs feet are called trotters . They are called pig s feet or
knuckles when humans eat them as a delicacy. Tamworth Pigs have four toes that are pointed
downwards. They do not walk on their whole foot, they walk on their tip toes and the outside toes are
used for balance. The hooves of the feet are the toughest part. The two toes in the middle of the foot
also help to balance the pig while walking because they are slightly webbed. They have a brilliant
carcass yield of 70% because they have fine bones which means there is more meat to bone ration the
their body.(KnowledgeBase.LookSeek.com, et al 2017)
Tamworth Pigs have 44 teeth when fully grown. When they are piglets they have 28 teeth which will
fall at when they are 12 months old. Just like human teeth, they have a layer of enamel on their teeth
that makes the pigs teeth stronger and helps it restrict disease. This breed of pig has a very high
disease resistance. Tamworth Pigs digestive system is similar to a humans. They cannot digest food
that is not chewed so they use their teeth to thoroughly chew their food.
(KnowledgeBase.LookSeek.com, 2017)
Part of the reason some pig farmers want to rare Tamworth pigs is because of the taste of their meat.
This breed of pig has 2 purposes. It is suitable for producing 2 types of meat, pork or bacon. A taste

who falls in love and finds herself. This story is not to judge a woman for having an affair with her
husband, but it is to make the reader fall in love with this woman named Edna and go with her on her
journey of finding herself. Edna is an extraordinary character in The Awakening, and it makes the
reader see the basis of independence, and also giving the reader his or her own journey and reflection
of their own life throughout the novel. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Robert s love changed her life and makes it complete, and without him there would be no awakening
for her. Life and death are based on this novel, figuratively Edna awakens from her dull, dependent
life to and independent, always changing life. This is an example of the first time Edna awakens from
her dull life: For the first time she recognized anew the symptoms of infatuation which had felt
incipiently as a child, as a girl in her earliest teens, and later as a young woman (Chopin 75). Literally
the novel deals with death when Edna commits suicide and figuratively she s already dealt with death
by being married to her husband before she awakens into a new life. She grew daring and reckless,
overestimating her strength. She wanted to swim far out, where no woman had swum before (Chopin
47) is a quote that pertains to an implicit and explicit belief. The quote s literal context tells you that
Edna wanted to swim in the ocean farther than any other woman had ever done, and she became
taunted with the idea of doing so. But the figurative context of this quote is that she wanted to escape
the duties of being a wife and mother, she no longer wanted to be a modern woman. There was a
difference in her thinking than others, and she was determined to find it and be independent no matter
what her mental strength was. In this quote Good by

A Depth Analysis Of Henri Fayol s Perspective On...
Management is one of the most significant factors of production necessary for the realization of a
company s objectives. The number of managers varies from one corporation to another and is highly
dependent on the size of the corporation. The leadership of a company s management is instrumental
as it sets and guides the general direction that the company ought to go. It provides efficient methods
in which the company s resources can be utilized in the production of goods and services as well as
dealing with any deviations, expected or otherwise, in order to increase the productivity and
competitiveness of an organization. This paper will give an in depth analysis of Henri Fayol s
perspective on management in addition to exploring other perspectives employed by other authors.
Considered as one of the pioneers of modern management, Fayol formulated a theory, which considers
management as one of the key skills of an employee, which is vital across all fields. He was the first to
recognize that management is a separate activity, which can be studied on its own. An employee with
more managerial skills is more valuable than one with only the technical skills (Byrnes 2014, p.81).
According to Fayol, the management has five core functions. These are planning, organizing,
commanding, coordinating, and controlling. Therefore, managerial activities are concerned with
formulation of operational plans for the business. His perspective is administrative in nature aimed at
making

Country Dancing Research Paper
Country 1 Writing Assignment Dance Attended: Friday April 28th County Dance in WB112
Fundraiser for OSU Equestrian team 7:45 11:00pm Attending this dance was quite a memorable
experience. I went with some ballroom dance friends and my friend Mary, who is in Country 1 with
me. I didn t realize it was a fundraiser until I asked the people checking it in what the funds went
toward; it was wonderful to learn that the OSU equestrian was raising money for a national
competition. There were only a few people when we arrived, but as the night pushed on, the gym
filled up and the floor was full of people in cowboy boots. Some people did come to the dance slightly
intoxicated, but not so much that they weren t able to dance properly. Another interesting thing is that
many ballroom dancers, who are on the technique team with me, are very good at country dancing and
go to almost all of the Country Dance Club events! ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first guy I danced swing with did a lift and dip that I was not prepared for, but it was super fun
and exhilarating! One thing I noticed is that having a good lead who has a little more experience
country dancing makes dancing very fun. I danced Schottische with both Andrews in our Country 1
class. Andrew and I taught some ballroom students how to do Schottische, and it wasn t as hard to
teach as I thought it would be! Schottische is probably my favorite non line dance. The line dances
were my favorite part, and will continue to be my favorite part of the country dances. I learned a lot of
new ones and taught the ones I did know to my ballroom dance friends. I loved watching people dance
the more complex line dances and get so into it! Wild Wild West is especially fun to watch because it
is a little different than the other line

The Pros And Cons Of Cognitive Dissonance
We, the First Presidency...of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints, solemnly proclaim that
marriage between a man and a woman is ordained of God... This is the opening line in The Family: A
Proclamation to the World, given by former President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day
Saints (LDS), Gordon B. Hinckley, in September of 1995. This is one of the main doctrines in the
LDS faith. In light of the U.S. Supreme Court s ruling regarding the legalization of gay marriage in
2015, these two ideologies, what is socially acceptable versus the standards of the LDS faith, stand
contrary to one another. This contradiction causes what is known as cognitive dissonance. Many
people have noted that members of the LDS faith have felt this dissonance from society, but what
about those people of the LDS faith who identify as LGBT or experience same sex attraction on some
level? The more we identify the two things that oppose each other, the greater the cognitive
dissonance. I myself am a member of the LDS faith, I also experience same sex attraction (SSA). It is
easy for me to find moments in my life where I have felt cognitive dissonance. Cognitive dissonance
is the distressing mental state caused by inconsistency between a person s two beliefs (Griffin 2014).
To put it simply, it is the uncomfortable feeling that we get when we choose to do something that we
know we should not. Examples of cognitive dissonance can be found in every aspect of life. An addict

The Medici Family During the Renaissance Essays
Florence, Italy was a city just like any other during the Renaissance. It was city of 50,000 people, less
than there were in Paris and Venice but more than most other European cities. The busiest parts of the
city were the Ponte Vecchio, a place lined with markets and houses, the neighborhood of the
Orsanmichele and Mercato Vecchio, or the Old Market. Florence was a place of beauty and leisure. A
Venetian visitor once said, There is in my opinion no region more sweeter than that wherein Florence
is a placed for Florence is situated in a plain surrounded on all sides by hills and mountains...And the
hills are fertile cultivated, pleasant... (Unger, pg. 1). Florence was a very prosperous city; it made

At first, Giovanni was not wealthy. His family had very little money. After his mother s death, due to
his current financial situation, Giovanni s cousin, Vieri di Cambio de Medici employed Giovanni and
his brother, Francesco to work at his bank. In 1385, he was married off to Piccarda Bueri, who was the
mother of Cosimo and Lorenzo. Following his marriage, he took a risk and invested in his cousin s
bank. He moved to Rome to become an executive partner of Vieri s southern bank believing he was
now skilled enough to attain wealth by using the methods of his cousin. A few years later, Giovanni
established the first Medici bank in Florence with a branch in Rome. A couple years after that, he
opened a branch in Naples and Venice (Parks, XI). Baldassare Cossa, a pirate whose ambition was to
become Pope was one of Giovanni s first clients (PBS: Godfathers of the Renaissance). With the help
of Giovanni, Cossa got his wish and became Pope in 1410. His bank flourished due to Baldassare
Cossa s success in becoming Pope. Dealing with the papacy had opened up new doors into the Church
for Giovanni. It drastically increased the number of clients Giovanni affiliated with. He didn t achieve
much compared to his sons and grandchildren but because established the first Medici Bank, he
helped his family acquire great wealth and popularity.

Critical Analysis Of Max Weber s Theory
Sociology of Max Weber This essay is a critical analysis of the theories given by Max Weber of
leadership, religion and rationalization.
Just like Marx, Max Weber is a German sociologist and philosopher and his ideas have always
influenced the society in many ways. He is referred to as one of the founding fathers of modern
sociology. He has given many ground breaking theories like theory of bureaucracy and theory of
social class. His theories are important because he helped us to understand the nature of society. He
disagreed with the Marxian understanding of class and Auguste Comte s theory of positivism.
Weber talked about a German term Verstehen which is basically a concept of understanding in regard

This authority rests on the appeal of the leader. At the same time this form of authority has its own
drawbacks. It is unstable and it deteriorates if the leader is unable to bring about the changes he
promised to bring. This is what we concluded from the case study by Rakesh Khurana as well. John
McCoy, the CEO of Bank One was a very charismatic leader. He brought about a huge change in the
Bank s financial and economic position. His attitude helped the bank to expand and take over First
Chicago. But as and when McCoy s attitude changed, people saw a change in the services of Bank
One which had started faltering. His laid back attitude finally led to his removal from the post of CEO
by his own board of members.

Analysis Of The Novel Moll Flanders
Moll Flanders did not start off as your typical story for a Victorian era novel. The Novel Moll Flanders
pushed the envelope and ultimately was a novel that assisted women in the progression of femininity
writing. There were undoubtedly other authors who assisted with this progression as well for instance,
Mary Wollstonecraft who publish later than this work, which could lead one to assume this work aided
her in doing so, so that in the future she would be able to publish her works which are well known to
many of us today. Although silenced through the forced submission of men, women were on the rise,
and in the process of demanding change not only in the literary world, but also the real world as a
whole; Moll Flanders proffers that evolution.
A key characteristic that made this story very prominent is that a man did this work. Which was rare
that a man at in time would provide such a ubiquitous feminine message that often times went
unheard. Daniel Defoe saw a reason to assert the voices of many women through this work alone.
Moll Flanders voice could ve been silenced like so many other women of this time, but instead her
raw, unearthing, and empowering voice was heard.
Dealt the wrong hand in life, caused Moll to look at the world in a different perspective than most
girls or women in her time. Not only was she living in a male chauvinist world, but she was also born
into a lower socio economic class. Moll came in this world with those two strikes alone against

There are hordes of roller coasters getting designed and made all over the world, but this one is
different from a lot of them. Underwater is a theme that a lot of people enjoy gawking at. My roller
coaster is an underwater coaster. The technology involved in making all of the designs was made by
the best in the business. It hits spins, sharp turns, loops and enormous drops. It is 254 feet in the air
and has a top speed of 53 miles per hour. It is 5,345 feet long (1629 meters) and takes 68 seconds or 1
minute and 8 seconds. The cart has 4 rows and 5 seats in each row. As you are going throughout the
ride the cart will spin so that you can see all of our aspects on the ride. Some amazing features
underwater are that you will be zooming through a pirate ship, you will observe some exotic fish, you
will see sharks, the seats will turn, as you are traveling up the first hill a captain will show up in a
screen and explain to you all about what you are getting into because underwater there will be images
that look like you are fighting a pirate ship. Finally the inside of the cart will be designed like a ship.

Thus, we went over two main issues caused by inappropriate personality test: time and money. They
are also two key elements for an organization. Let s go deeper to understand why these two points can
decrease the efficiency of an organization. Time is very important for an organization (most of the
time concerning companies), the quicker, the better. Indeed, the influence of time on companies is due
in order to satisfy customers. This means to have the best employee as possible, and the first step is
obviously the recruitment with a personality test. Of course it takes time to do a test when we recruit
someone. However, we should see this on the long term and not short term because the benefit is
really huge. Moreover, employers or managers usually forget that employees are the basement of an
organization, and the stronger, the better, which means having the correct employee with the correct
skills and abilities for the job specifications. Job specification is the Statement of the needed
knowledge, skills, and abilities of the person who is to perform the position. The different duties and
responsibilities performed by only one employee . Money is fundamental for an organization, and this

Techniques In Of Mice And Men
And will there be rabbits, George? Yeah, Lennie. There ll be rabbits.
There is a certain curse attached to the most familiar lines in literature. Because we know them so
well, we tend to smile when we encounter them, and they can break the reality of the story they re
trying to tell. What stage Hamlet has not despaired of getting through To be, or not to be? in one
piece?
In John Steinbeck s novel Of Mice and Men, made into an enduringly popular movie, the lines about
the rabbits have became emblems for the whole relationship between George and Lennie the quiet
spoken farm laborer and the sweet, retarded cousin he has taken under his arm. I would not have
thought I could believe the line about the rabbits one more time, but this movie made me do it, as
Lennie asks about the farm they ll own one day, and George says, yes, it will be just as they ve
imagined it.
Lennie is played by John Malkovich and George is Gary Sinise, who also directed this film, using an

  • 2. Analysis Of Ray Bradbury s Dr. Neff Kiersta Walley American Modern Novel Dr. Neff April 27th, 2015 Final Paper Is this book worth the read? Sometimes it is hard to remember that Ray Bradbury tackles the art of short story in a very unusual way. His collections of short stories are often tied together by shared sub themes or settings, although each story could stand on it s own. Such is the case here, though the running theme to the Illustrated Man collection is mostly a concept. Apparently the stories are told by a man s tattoos, but do not worry about that too much. The true theme holding this group of stories together is inspections of human nature and mankind s place in the universe. Bradbury s classic examinations of the gloomy and downhearted side of humanity are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He is known as the Illustrated Man who is looking for a job. The main character went to be tattooed across his entire body as a way to continue to work at a circus, showing off to people who come to view the art he exhibited. His tattoos, he told him, where given to him by a witch from our future that he wishes to find and kill. When the sun goes down, the tattoos come to life, and play out little dramas upon the man flesh. The man decides to watch as the Illustrated Man sleeps, and what he sees are the stories that are portrayed in this novel. Each of the stories covered in this book comes from the drama performed out by the man s tattoos. The tattoos plays out different eighteen stories, but with all of the stories being told, the man finds one last tattoo forming: it showed the Illustrated Man strangling him to death. By and well built, the stories are independent to each other, which means we can go from a strange future where one family s house takes care of all their materials to a poor farmer who manages to avoid the end of the by being in one of his own. Still, there are few themes that run throughout the book that are fascinating to look at. The stories in this collection are unusual but a few common themes arise. One of these themes is the way we relate to technology. It is pretty obvious in the first tale of the book, The Veldt. In this story, we meet a family who are completely reliant on on their house. It is a technological phenomenon, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Importance Of Typology In Christianity Christianity has been from the beginning a typological religion. Typology in Christian theology and Biblical exegesis is a doctrine or theory concerning the relationship between the Old and New Testaments . (Merriam Webster 868) Perhaps the single most important concept for understanding early Christianity is typology. Typology is a form of study of literature identifying symbols especially in the Bible. This system of groupings, usually called types, the members of which are identified by postulating specified attributes that are mutually exclusive and collectively exhaustive groupings set up to aid demonstration or inquiry by establishing a limited relationship among phenomena. Typology is interpreted throughout text in American literature such as William Bradford s Plymouth Plantation, Jonathan Edward s Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God and Thomas Paine Common Sense. During the Enlightenment, the meaning of Protestant identity became increasingly vague; typology took on the hazy significance of image and symbol; what passed for the divine plan had lost its strict grounding sculpture; providence itself was shaken loose from its religious frame work to became part of the belief in the human progress. The eighteenth century clergy took advantage of this movement to shift the focus of figural authority, from Bible history to the American experience. In effect, they substituted a regional for a biblical past, sanctified the American present as a movement from promise to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Challenging But Rewarding World Of A Hotel Manager Challenging yet Rewarding World of a Hotel Manager The hotel industry is one of the most important segments of the Hospitality in large. Working in hotels allows its employees to have fun, emerge in new cultures on a daily basis and be able to advance further in the career. The lodging industry is one of the most rewarding, yet most challenging fields to work for. Confucius once said Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life . Some people will choose this career path in need of money, but those who choose it out of passion will understand the power in the saying above. The lodging industry is a more than $155 billion industry that includes approximately 53,000 properties with almost 5,000,000 guestrooms (Walker, 2015, p. 76). This field is continuously growing due to the trend of using management contracts and franchising, since it allows brands to expand rapidly without using their own financial resources (Walker, 2015, p. 76). In today s technology driven society it is more important to deliver and over exceed guest expectations than ever. The influence of social media has increased drastically, which can either help or hurt the business due positive or negative word of mouth. Working in a hotel takes a lot of courage, hard work and perseverance, but it also takes a lot of passion, love and hospitality spirit to overcome difficult situations. The purpose of this research paper is to explore the career of a hotel general manager in order ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Examples Of Ideal Beauty And The Venus Of Willendorf Ideal Beauty and the Venus of Willendorf The Venus of Willendorf is said to be the first masterpiece of world sculptures. It belongs to a series of Venus figurines of the Paleolithic period or Old Stone Age. This period was characterized by crude stone and bone weapons, cave paintings, and sculptures. The Venus was found in a small village of Austria called Willendorf, hence the name of the Venus. This groundbreaking discovery was made in 1908 by the archaeologist Josef Szombathy. However, it was not until 1990 when we were able to predict the time when the sculpture was carved. It is believed to have been made between 25,000 B.C.E and 20,000 B.C.E. The sculpture is only 4,4 inches tall and it is made of oolitic limestone, which is a carbonate rock commonly found in India, around the Caribbean and Pacific Ocean Islands, but not Austria. Therefore, archeologists believe that this sculpture was moved from its original place of creation. Continuing with that idea, because of the fact that the sculpture does not have defined feet so it is not able to stand and that it is small and malleable, historians believe that it was originally made to be carried around as a talisman or a sign of good luck, especially for fertility purposes. It is important to notice how the structure of this sculpture highlights some human features (breasts, belly, hips, vulva) while minimizing others, such as arms and legs. The Venus represents the first aesthetic ideas of our early history, which has ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Analysis Of Philippa Gregory s Three Sisters Three... Three Sisters, Three Queens, a historical fiction novel written by Philippa Gregory, takes place in 16th century Europe, an era characterized by powerful monarchs whose personal and political life are incredibly complex and intertwined. In particular, this story focuses on three women who will become the queens of Scotland, France, and England, respectively: Margaret, her sister, Mary, and their sister in law, Katherine of Aragon. The story is told from Margaret s point of view, who provides a unique yet often disregarded female perspective of this era intended to demonstrate that these ruling women are just as important to history as their male counterparts, namely Henry VIII and James IV. The novel is centered around two types of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It would spoil everything if Mary s is French cut or more richly embroidered, or more fashionable (293 294). Her superficial nature and blatant sense of entitlement resulting from her privileged upbringing becomes almost comical, especially as she is so heavily concerned with her possessions even while her country is engulfed in both civil war and war with England. Nevertheless, Margaret still does mature with age, as she and her sisters come to realize that they should be working together rather than separately: We spent our time admiring and envying each other and we should have been guiding and protecting each other (544). Ironically, on that very same page Margaret expresses delight over her sisters misfortunes: I am in a better place than both my sisters. I cling to this little joy, as stubborn as when we were girls jockeying for supremacy (544). Margaret s fickle nature embodies her time period, where many of the monarchs share similar competitive desires and betrayal is commonplace. On an even grander scale, Gregory highlights a natural human flaw and defies the idea of a perfect protagonist. Even though Margaret changes for the better, a little part of her young and selfish self will always remain within her. Margaret is not always a likable character, but she is certainly a relatable one, whose experiences to achieve power and happiness teach her that she should have confidence in herself and her sisters to defy gender norms ... • 7. Effect Teaching Method for Calculus The majority of instructors believe that the best method for training scientists is the traditional lecture. In 2011, the Mathematical Association of America surveyed over 700 calculus instructors on what they believed was the most effective way to teach. Two thirds of those surveyed agree with the statement: Calculus students learn best from lectures, provided they are clear and well prepared (Bressoud 2011). There is a common notion in teaching that, because the instructor is the expert in the room, it his/her job to take the lead role in guiding students through the material. Instructors with this traditional view would argue that because students are novices, active engagement techniques where students are teaching each other could only lead to an increase in confusion about the concepts. In addition to serving as the expert, most instructors also believe that their role is to meet their students expectations in the classroom. Students can be resistant, at least at first, to new instructional techniques. If students want informative and well structured lectures, then the traditional lecture meets students expectations by allowing them to passively sit, listen, and take notes. To summarize, even though both students and instructors have considerable experience in teaching and learning, this does not directly translate to them being experts in the assessment of various teaching practices. Science education literature has dozens of studies that quantitatively ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, what is seen as deviant practice in the West, it is in fact a distinct and important part of many cultures. For societies where female genital cutting is practiced, women find themselves pressured to comply with these norms as it gives them a sense of acceptance into a society as well as becoming marriageable. In the modern world people rely on organizations and systems for prosperity, insurance, etc. In most of African societies like the Hofriyat, kinship still plays a major role in being social security, health care and so on relying on the relationship with relatives and friends. Marriage became perceived as an important factor since it forms the basic source of personal identity and economic advantages (Boddy 2007, p.61). Collective interest between individuals is pursued through marriages arranged by the parents while subordinating the sexuality of young women and men to comply with the interest of the social group according to the elders (Boddy 2007, 62). In Hofriyat society, sexual absence is a matter of family honors. Failure to comply with this norm can lead to the family losing honor and the risk of jeopardizing the chances of getting married, which will affect its economic statues, political leverage and continuity of family line (Boddy 2007, 62). Looking at this aspect it is not surprising that honor is mostly assigned in relations to young women. In jobs they believe women won t work, and that women aren t capable enough to do the job, so women end up getting paid less or have to work ridiculously short hours. Today in our century, women are targeted more than men because they are considered weak. Being labeled weak makes women are more vulnerable to at least one form of abuse. 1 in 3 women are abused in some form at a time of their life by a man. Women are targeted for crimes, such as home break ins, because if they live on their own, they are thought to not be able to defend themselves that well. Women are also being killed all the time. In India, women are burned to death if they can t meet financial requirements, while men aren t. In Egypt, women are killed if they do something considered unclean in their family or outside their family. From big gyms with basketball courts, pools, and juice bars such as Lifetime Fitness to videos you can watch and work out to at home like P90X, there are thousands of different places to turn to improve your fitness and health. However, Shred415 takes a new approach at fitness with small classes of about 30 people that work out in intervals of either 5, 10, or 15 minutes. During these intervals, people alternate between cardio work on the treadmill and weight training. Shred415 is already taking a different approach at fitness, but will enough people make the transition to their new approach is a question that they need to ask themselves. Many ... Also, it will address the problem of having a shortage of trained instructors for their gyms. Question We came to our idea by asking ourselves, what are the biggest problems with Shred415 right now and how can we take this already unique fitness club to the next level. Shred415 already has a lot of strengths. It is an innovative new way of working out and the people love it, as I stated above. Ultimately, our idea came from the side of your customers because they are what drive your company. We asked ourselves, how can Shred415 expand enough where they can keep their waitlist to a minimum and become more available for customers? And how can they address their shortage of trained instructors? Situation Currently Shred415 is doing a great job at drawing customers in and keeping them loyal. • 17. Changing Picture of the Look of a Family Introduction In the past there was a clear picture of what a family would typically look like. In today s world it doesn t have to consist of a mother, a father and their biological children living together under one roof. It can consist of just a grandfather and his grandson, because they are still considered family. Throughout years families can create and indoctrinate new members. The power of the family is such that despite the possible separation of members by vast distances, sometimes even death, the family s influence remains (Goldenberg Goldenberg, p. 2, 2012). Even when a family member experiences a temporary or permanent sense of alienation from the family, he or she can never truly relinquish family membership (Goldenberg Goldenberg, p. 2, 2012). The family life cycle continuously evolves throughout the years. Families continue to remain the foundation of most people s lives. They can provide the security, support, and intimacy people need (Kirst Ashman Hull, p.329, 2012). Within families there should always be structure. Family structure refers to the organization of relationships and patterns of interaction occurring within the family. In addition, family structure will vary dramatically depending from one family to another (Kirst Ashman Hull, p.334, 2012). As social workers, we can work on a micro, mezzo and or macro level. In your response compare and contrast Jewish and Islamic perspectives. To a certain extent, the current conflict in Israel can be defined as religious; this is predominantly due to the beliefs and attachments Abrahamic religions hold to the land. The conflict stems from the inability to share ownership of what the religions consider to be their holy land (Dowty, 2012, p.2); thus, territory is the foremost cause of the Israel/Palestine conflict, but it is questionable as to whether this is a religious matter or a political matter (Eugene Korn, 2008, p.x). Due to its complex nature, the definition of PR has changed considerably over the past 70 years (Ledingham Bruning, 1998). This report aims to analyse how PR can specifically support the DMD Foundation to achieve its awareness and fundraising objectives. A common definition of PR will be examined, breaking down its key elements, followed by a discussion regarding the overarching role of PR within organisations, specifically in the non profit sector, highlighting the positive impact that PR could have on the DMD Foundation. Discussion 3.1 Defining Public Relations The subsequent definition aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the key elements involved within the functions of the PR sector. Public relations is the management function which evaluates public attitudes, identifies the policies and procedures of an individual or an organisation with the public interest, and plans and executes a program of action to earn public understanding and acceptance. (Public Relations News, as cited in Grunig Hunt, 1984) PR as a management function serves to promote the importance of PR departments within an organisation (Gordon, 1997) and brings to the decision making table theories born of ongoing research and data to drive organisational decisions (Smith, 2014). The industry utilised the first steam powered engines of Newcommen and many more that followed. As production grew from these applications the new railways were used to transport the vast amounts of coal being produced. In 1830 steam power could wind men and coal up and down a few hundred feet. By the 1860s there were pithead engines of 1500 hp. For 100 years from 1850 coal made up more than half of the railways freight. The gasworks of the early 1800s were burning thousands of tons per year. The coal used in these gasworks was roasted and this resulted in coke as a waste product. This coke was then sold on to the ironworks. In the 1860s British engineers were still improving the steam engine. For example, by using preventative strategies such as engaging in whole class discussions, explicit instructions, modelled consistency and offering choice with rules, consequence and academic tasks, students may be able to recognise their personal intentions and maintain suitable behaviours (Lyons et al., p. 24). GCT has many strengths, for instance, it provides teachers with an effective framework to distinguish their students motivation to misbehave. Furthermore, it helps students to recognise and adapt their own misbehaviour that may arise from failure to meet social needs. GCT encourages constructive classroom environments, where students are intrinsically motivated and actively involved in their learning, thus they demonstrate accountability for their own academic achievement whilst considering the needs of others. However, critics of GCT believe that not every student has the need to be socially accepted and other reasons such as an inability to recognise motives or hidden motives may be responsible for their misbehaviour (Lyons et al., 2014, p. 24). Conflicts need to be handled so that the situation does not escalate further. Most people look at conflicts as a bad situation, but not all conflicts are bad, some are good, especially when discussing an idea within a group. In an organization there are times when a conflict may need to happen for an issue to be resolved, but when this happens the people involved need to look at if this conflict is really necessary to resolve the issue. How to address conflicts in a group and how a manager can bring up the conflict without making them worse is what will be discussed next. At many jobs there are projects given that have to be completed in groups and they re more than likely is going to be people within the group that do not necessarily agree on how the project should be completed. This can cause a conflict to arise and to resolve this conflict requires all members of the group to have a say in the resolution. To ensure sufficient discussion of contentious issues in a work group, I would have one person be in charge of the group. This person would make sure that everyone had a turn to give their input and I would make it known to all the group members that what is said cannot be held against the person who says it. As the scientific discoveries progressed with time, so did the advancements in the sport of hockey, reflecting on how important and influential science truly is. Players glided on the ice rather than actually skated. Artifacts also show the use of animal bones as skate blades as well. Currently, steal blades are used. This does not mean that there is more heat but rather heat is applied more quickly (Haché 24). The most basic and necessary skill in hockey is skating. Skating is made possible thanks to Newton s Third Law. With every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. The blade applies force on the ice and the ice pushes back on the blade causing a forward movement. To accelerate, players exert a strong force on the lower part of their bodies by leaning forward. Gravity pulls down on a hockey player s center of mass which torques him forward (Exploratorium 1). Skaters also skate and accelerate while turning. Centripetal force enables the player to lean inward and create a sharp turn (Haché 50). Acceleration is negative for a braking skater and is determined by the friction force on the skate blade. To achieve this, the skater turns their skates perpendicular to the direction of motion and digs the blade into the ice, creating the greatest resistive force. The blade scrapes a layer of ice off the surface and the player comes to a stop (Exploratorium 1). Another large part of the sport is the physical contact. Hockey can turn into a brutal game with 220 pound men checking each other left and right. Because these men have large masses and fast velocities, they have a lot of kinetic energy. • 35. Disadvantages And Disadvantages Of Genetically Modified Foods Often a common question is whether the production of GM foods is a solution to the food crisis or a disaster in the making. First off GMO (genetically modified organism) is the result of a laboratory process where genes from the DNA of one species are extracted and artificially forced into the genes of an unrelated plant or animal. The foreign genes may come from bacteria, viruses, insects, animals or even humans. So essentially it is taking food, modifying food using a gene that solves an obstacle and putting it on the market for us to eat. Some of the advantages of GM foods are that they are better for the environment. GMOs are adapted in such a way that many plants don t require pesticides or other chemicals that impact on the earth. GMOs increase the flavour and longevity of the fruit. Another advantage which is probably in the best interest of society is that fact that it often decreases price of products and often becomes more affordable. Although research and testing is not cheap, once it is on the market the prices of your normal GM foods are substantially more affordable. With all the advantages comes the counter, disadvantage. GM foods often cause cross contamination where pollen from genetically modified foods are also contaminated. When GMOs are around other plants often the pollen can drift over to the wrong plants and create plants that have resistance to the conditions that were meant for the crops to be resistant to. Essentially GMOs potentially have the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. Mediator As Impartial Third Parties Mediators serve as impartial third parties who help settle disputes between people. Their role is to aid in communication between parties seeking a resolution in some matter. To accomplish this, mediators must build credibility with the parties involved in the dispute and must garner confidence in their abilities from those with whom they are working. They are able to achieve this when they demonstrate the expertise necessary to manage the process of communication between the parties and help each understand the other s position and goals. Mediators gain this proficiency by understanding the complexities that cause conflict. In system level conflict, matters become exacerbated by the number of participants and issues involved. In order to effectively help resolve system level conflict, mediators must understand the individual parts, and how they are interrelated and operating, in order to best serve the collective unit. Royce Kellogg certainly is culpable for the mess in which he finds himself while Susan Barlow also shares in that responsibility. Neither the client nor the consultant fully understood the effort and level of involvement they needed to provide in order to achieve their goals for this merger. They find themselves in this state because neither have done their part to accomplish what needs to be done. Kellogg had the responsibility to take a leadership role in this transition, yet he seems to have chosen to ignore that fact. He failed to delineate his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. The Change Of English Language Language is not consistent, it is changing by its nature, either because of innovation, technology, war or someone s mistakes. English has developed over more than 1500 years since Anglo Saxon invasion in AD 450 as they brought a set of Anglo Frisian (Anglo German) dialect, which became known as Old English. This time was the beginning of the development of English language. The change of English language is divided into four phases: Old English, Middle English, Early Modern English and Late Modern English. The period of Old English was roughly between 400 and 1100. It was the time when English developed from Latin as it borrowed many words via church. At that time the language was also largely affected by Scandinavians after invasion and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sometimes, some words fall out of usage and replaced by other for example vinyl is replaced by M.P.3. All of this is explained by the functional theory, which suggests language always changes and adapts to the needs of its users. So, people create new words when they need them. On another hand, words can be created by accident. In 1958, Charles Hockett came up with theory that shows that random errors and event have an influence on language change. For example, predictive text messaging is the one example of random fluctuation. Again the language is affected by technology change and development, today s phones will estimate what word one is writing and finish it or it can correct any spelling mistakes one have made. Modern phones would automatically add an apostrophe in its no matter whether it is an adjective or short form for it is or it has . Thus the theory shows that society s mistakes could also influence the language change. Another theory that describes how and why new word enter English language is S Curve Model, which is base on the idea that language change can occur at slower pace then it increases speed as it becomes wore accepted, therefore creating curve resembling letter S . The model is based on Chen s idea. For example slang tends to spread in particular way, first when the new slang term appears it will be used by the smallest group of people and then it might be picked up by ... The Awakening by Kate Chopin is a compelling story of a woman who is awakened from the miserable duties of a housewife and mother to a woman who falls in love and finds herself. This story is not to judge a woman for having an affair with her husband, but it is to make the reader fall in love with this woman named Edna and go with her on her journey of finding herself. This is an example of the first time Edna awakens from her dull life: For the first time she recognized anew the symptoms of infatuation which had felt incipiently as a child, as a girl in her earliest teens, and later as a young woman (Chopin 75). Literally the novel deals with death when Edna commits suicide and figuratively she s already dealt with death by being married to her husband before she awakens into a new life. She grew daring and reckless, overestimating her strength. She wanted to swim far out, where no woman had swum before (Chopin 47) is a quote that pertains to an implicit and explicit belief. The quote s literal context tells you that Edna wanted to swim in the ocean farther than any other woman had ever done, and she became taunted with the idea of doing so. But the figurative context of this quote is that she wanted to escape the duties of being a wife and mother, she no longer wanted to be a modern woman. It provides efficient methods in which the company s resources can be utilized in the production of goods and services as well as dealing with any deviations, expected or otherwise, in order to increase the productivity and competitiveness of an organization. This paper will give an in depth analysis of Henri Fayol s perspective on management in addition to exploring other perspectives employed by other authors. Considered as one of the pioneers of modern management, Fayol formulated a theory, which considers management as one of the key skills of an employee, which is vital across all fields. He was the first to recognize that management is a separate activity, which can be studied on its own. An employee with more managerial skills is more valuable than one with only the technical skills (Byrnes 2014, p.81). According to Fayol, the management has five core functions. These are planning, organizing, commanding, coordinating, and controlling. Therefore, managerial activities are concerned with formulation of operational plans for the business. The Pros And Cons Of Cognitive Dissonance We, the First Presidency...of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints, solemnly proclaim that marriage between a man and a woman is ordained of God... This is the opening line in The Family: A Proclamation to the World, given by former President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints (LDS), Gordon B. Hinckley, in September of 1995. This is one of the main doctrines in the LDS faith. In light of the U.S. Supreme Court s ruling regarding the legalization of gay marriage in 2015, these two ideologies, what is socially acceptable versus the standards of the LDS faith, stand contrary to one another. This contradiction causes what is known as cognitive dissonance. Many people have noted that members of the LDS faith have felt this dissonance from society, but what about those people of the LDS faith who identify as LGBT or experience same sex attraction on some level? The more we identify the two things that oppose each other, the greater the cognitive dissonance. I myself am a member of the LDS faith, I also experience same sex attraction (SSA). It is easy for me to find moments in my life where I have felt cognitive dissonance. Cognitive dissonance is the distressing mental state caused by inconsistency between a person s two beliefs (Griffin 2014). To put it simply, it is the uncomfortable feeling that we get when we choose to do something that we know we should not. Examples of cognitive dissonance can be found in every aspect of life. • 46. Analysis Of The Novel Moll Flanders Moll Flanders did not start off as your typical story for a Victorian era novel. The Novel Moll Flanders pushed the envelope and ultimately was a novel that assisted women in the progression of femininity writing. There were undoubtedly other authors who assisted with this progression as well for instance, Mary Wollstonecraft who publish later than this work, which could lead one to assume this work aided her in doing so, so that in the future she would be able to publish her works which are well known to many of us today. Although silenced through the forced submission of men, women were on the rise, and in the process of demanding change not only in the literary world, but also the real world as a whole; Moll Flanders proffers that evolution. A key characteristic that made this story very prominent is that a man did this work. Which was rare that a man at in time would provide such a ubiquitous feminine message that often times went unheard. Daniel Defoe saw a reason to assert the voices of many women through this work alone. Moll Flanders voice could ve been silenced like so many other women of this time, but instead her raw, unearthing, and empowering voice was heard.
