William Shakespeare s The Winter s Tale Essay
William Shakespeare s The Winter s Tale
In Shakespeare s The Winter s Tale, the playwright introduces his audience to a world blending natural
imagery with that of ancient religion. Appearing as nature s child, Perdita fails to realize her own
identity and does not recognize that the flowers she describes mimic her own image. Just as gillyvors
are a result of crossbreeding, the shepherdess is essentially one of nature s bastards since she
eventually discovers Porrus has been an adoptive father for her, and Leontes is her biological father.
Perdita not only shares her natural image with the goddess Proserpina, but also shares in the goddess
fate as a lost daughter.

more like Proserpina by picking the same types of flowers to honor her friend. In mentioning the
fairest flowers o th season (IV.iv.81), the maiden does not understand that these flowers typify her own
image. While describing the carnations and streaked gillyvors / Which some call nature s bastards

though she does not know yet that the shepherd is merely her adoptive father and not her biological,
the shepherdess is also one of nature s bastards, as her parentage goes undefined. Just as Proserpina is
estranged from her mother, Perdita and her father are separated at her birth until her adoptive father
reveals his true identity.
From the time of her birth, Perdita becomes a lost daughter like Proserpina. Leontes orders that

The Ethical Marketing Strategy Of Pharmaceutical Advertising
What are some of the ethical issues associated with this marketing strategy? Pharmaceutical
advertisements has been the subject of deliberation for more than a century. Pharmaceutical
advertising and marketing make up a large fragment of the activities of pharmaceutical corporations.
These publications can be extremely informative as long as they are analytically evaluated. However,
the data enclosed in promotional material may be scant or erroneous. Assuredly, the pharmaceutical
marketing activities has a great effect on the behavior of the physicians however hidden rather than
suggested in its script noticeable (Makowska, 2014; UKessays, 2015). The ethical marketing strategies
in the pharmaceutical industry are procedures used to sell medicines morally. The strategy must be as
such that it does not influence the decision making criteria of physicians. Ethical marketing is usually
referred to as the use of marketing ethics into the marketing process. The establishment of marketing
ethics has the potential to benefit society as a whole and should be considered a part of business ethics
in the sense that marketing forms a substantial part of any business model. Marketing strategies are
organized into five classifications: physicians targeted promotions; direct to consumer advertising;
unethical recruitment of physicians; researchers conflicts of interest; and data manipulation in clinical
trials. The pharmaceutical business marketing influence physicians

Political Changes In The Tang Dynasty
Political changes in this time period in East Asia included the fall of the Tang and the rise of the Song.
The Tang dynasty was in the midst of internal rebellion and nomadic invasions (Martin 117). This
eventually led to the abdication of the last emperor, causing the Tang to fall (Bentley and Ziegler 286).
One major change during the Tang era was the rule of Wu Zhao, a female leader. This was surprising,
considering the Confucian belief that women should not lead, but instead be lead by men. The Song
dynasty arose when centralized imperial rule was reestablished by warlords who ruled China after the
Tang dynasty s collapse. Unlike the Tang dynasty, the Song dynasty did not have a proficient military,
due to the military being led by civil bureaucrats, who were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

For example, the civil service examination system was abolished, as well as the Confucian curriculum
in education. The Yuan dynasty eventually fell because of rebellions and assassinations, along with the
flawed accounts of the wealth that backed up the flying money. An outbreak of the bubonic plague in
1368 also added to these problems (Bentley and Ziegler 447). Replacing the Yuan dynasty was the
Chinese led Ming dynasty. Under Ming rule, Mongol influences were swapped for Chinese culture as
Emperor Hongwu reinstated the traditional Confucian curriculum in education and the civil service
exams. In Japan, as the Heian period (794 1192) declined, the power was transferred from the emperor
to the shogun. During the Heian period, Japan was ruled by local rulers who answered to the emperor,
who was still considered the supreme political power of Japan (Bentley and Ziegler 300). The
emperor, in turn, was controlled by the powerful Fujiwara family. Heian Japan declined, however, as
Japan was divided into estates ruled by aristocrats. In the late 11th century, two of these aristocratic
clans, the Taira clan and the Minamoto clan, went to war with each

Cleaning A Car
Washing a Car for Idiots My car is always dirty from driving around in fields and dirt roads. I have
had my license for just over a year now, and have discovered a three step process to make your car
sparkle after you are done washing it. First you have to gather your materials, second you wash the car
with soap, and third you dry your car off. There are many different types of supplies you can use to
wash your car but i have found out that the basics do the same job as the fancy cleaning supplies. The
most important supplies are a bucket, a large sponge, hose with running water, and soap. The brand of
soap you use plays a big role in how shiny and clean your car will get. I have found that the best soap
to use that is fairly priced and gives ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Take the hose out of the bucket and start spraying your car. To ensure that your don t miss any areas
break your car up into five areas top ,two sides, front, and back. You start at the top of your car so that
the dirt on top does not run down onto parts of the car that you have already cleaned. On the top of the
car, first you wet the entire roof with water. Second grab you sponge that has been soaking in your
soap and bubbles and cover the entire roof with suds. Third rinse off the top of the car Making sure no
suds are left. After that re soak your sponge in the bucket and re apply to the roof. The reason you
apply the suds to the roof twice it to ensure all the dirt is removed and it is thoroughly cleaned. After
you finish the roof you can move on to the next section of your car. Repeat the same steps you did for
the roof on each of the other four sections. This will ensure that all the dirt and grime is removed from
the car. Once you have finished washing the body and windows of your car you can move down to the
rims and tires. The tires and rims are washed last so that the sponge doesn t get gravel stuck in it and
therefor the gravel will scratch the body paint on the car. The same process for washing the car is
applied to the rims and tires.
The third step for having a clean and sparkling car is to hand dry the car after you are finished
washing it. The reason you hand dry it is so no watermarks or soap stains are left behind. It usually
takes about two beach towels to dry the whole car. To dry the car properly use the wax on wax off
method that Mr. Miyagi taught in the karate kid. Once the car is wiped down take it for a sort drive
around your neighborhood so that the wind can dry any spots that were accidentally

Compare And Contrast Lincoln And The Civil War
The American Civil War was undeniably one of the most influential events in the formation of the
United States and what it is today. There were several prominent figures on both the side of the Union
and the Confederacy. Two important individuals from this era were President Abraham Lincoln and
General Nathan Bedford Forrest. These two men fought on opposite sides of the war, Lincoln
supporting the Union and Forrest the Confederacy. They both found great success during the war,
despite their drastically differing approaches and beliefs. Of the two, Lincoln had a more positive and
lasting influence on the United States and the values held to this day.
Forrest and Lincoln both had a strong effect on society and the American people at the time. Lincoln
impacted the North heavily with his beliefs and values, whereas Forrest had a strong hold on those
supporting the Confederacy. He primarily had an influence over the soldiers and troops under his
command. While Forrest only directly held the attention of his troops, Lincoln being the President of
the United States, had more of an impact on the citizens through public contact and delivering
speeches. President Lincoln and General Forrest encouraged different qualities in their followers.
Lincoln valued equality, empathy and freedom. Forrest was a general in the Confederate army and
therefore focused much more on action and success on the battlefield to spread his cause. Lincoln,
inversely, focused much more on gaining traction

Utilizing Psychotherapy and Pharmacotherapy to Treat Symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
The survival status of burn victims is increasing and although this is an achievement for the medical
field, it means that many burn victims are left dealing with psychiatric issues such as stress,
depression, anxiety and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) (Willebrand, Anderson Ekeselius, 2004).
PTSD is an anxiety disorder that results from a traumatic event in which the client s life was or
perceived to be threatened (Lonergan, 2014). There are three cardinal categories of signs and
symptoms of PTSD: re experiencing (flashbacks), avoidance/numbing and hyper arousal (American
Psychiatric Association, 2013). A female adult is admitted two months post burn to a mental health
clinic located in the city. Upon further inquiry, the physician diagnoses her with PTSD based on her
reported symptoms, using the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorder (American et al.,
2013). Collaborating with the mental health nurses results in two nursing strategies that are planned
focusing on the current gold standard to treating the symptoms that characterize PTSD. This paper
will outline two evidenced based strategies that a nurse can implement specifically, utilizing
techniques of prolonged exposure (PE) therapy and medication education

The Marketing Strategy Analysis of Starbucks Corporation
Introduction
Under today s ever changing market, strategic marketing planning has become more and more
significant whether of the functional or the fundamental. Especially, although financial crisis leaded
economy growth slowdown, it did not cause a serious influence for chain coffee shop. As Howard
Schultz said, CEO of Starbucks, I don t think we had a business plan for the severity of what has taken
place. History demonstrated to us that a downturn in the economy would not affect us, and in fact, we
would be recession proof. (Katie Couric, 2008) Based on Financial Times, Starbucks revealed that
strong earnings of $242m of 2008, a jump from the $64m it recorded during the comparable period
last year and total revenues for the quarter ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Jobber and Fahy, 2009) Therefore, the strategic marketing becomes more and more significant since
it can help organizations to find its own position of the competitive market; thus, they just can justify
their strategy against whether the existing or the potential competitors. Therefore, organizations
should classify the marketing environment including competitive environment (its immediate
competitors and customers) and the macro environment (the wider social, political and economic
setting they operate.) In order to develop the right strategy whether for short term or long term,
organizations not only need to know the concept of strategic marketing but also how to use it within
the competitive marketing.
In addition, fundamental to strategic thinking is the concept of strategic fit. It indicates how
organizations match the internal resources and capabilities with the opportunities in the external
environment. The strategic model used to evaluate the appropriateness of the vision or decision
making of the organizations (Hooley G et al 2008). A competitive advantage can be developed
successfully by a suitable and unique combination of capabilities and resources. Nevertheless,
organizations should pay more attention to classify the differentiation between resources and
capabilities. Capabilities are focused on the learning effect of the organizations

Apartheid And The System Of Apartheid In South Africa
Ever since Hitler s reign of segregating the Jews from Germans during World War ll, nobody thought
that would ever happen again because of how horrible it was and how many lives were lost because of
it. That was until 1948 when Apartheid started. Apartheid is a system of racial segregation in South
Africa enforced through legislation by the National Party and the government. The whites wanted
domination of the non whites and all the power. To do so, the government got rid of many of their
rights. The black population was not very fond of this and wanted their rights back. In fact, the black
population made up 72% of South Africa and the whites only made up 16%, which is way less than
the blacks. The reason there was not many whites was because Britain gained control over South
Africa and were controlling everything and everyone. It started out with a numerous amount of laws
and statements the government created. The Afrikaner National Party creates the policy of apartheid,
initially putting it into effect. Then came classifying the races during the Population Registration Act.
Soon enough separate public spaces were created to make sure the blacks and whites didn t interact.
Homelands were created for the blacks, striping them of their South African Citizenship and making
them carry around passports. This relates very closely to when Hitler made the Jews wear the star of
david and carry around their papers to identify them. Like the jews, the blacks were forced out of their
homes and forced to live on the new reserves. Everything that was happening helped the white
minority gain more power because the Africans were limited to what they could do. Since many
blacks did not like the pass laws that were created, they would go against them to support their
families. The consequences for not following the pass laws were harassment, fines, and getting
arrested. This led to many blacks wanting to get their rights back and be equal with the whites. Many
tried to end apartheid, including Nelson Mandela. Nelson Mandela was an anti apartheid radical and
leader of the African National Congress(ANC). He was determined to help the people in South Africa
regain their rights and equality. He decided to take a handful of

Essay Comparing Wagner And Kreisler
Though generations apart, Richard Wagner and Fritz Kreisler both display correlations not only in
musical presentation and development but also in the consistencies and adversities regarding their
lives. Despite their disparities, Wagner and Kreisler prove to have transformed music through their
innovations in their own compositions. Regarding their biography, Wagner and Fritz have paraded
their interests in music from an early age. Fritz Kreisler, born February 2, 1875, embodied the persona
of a true child prodigy starting at the age of 4 when he was given a violin and with no prior knowledge
of scales or notes he was able to play the Austrian National Anthem from start to finish perfectly. This
foreshadowed the coming of his career in music and from there he could only go up moving towards

becoming the youngest to attend the musical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For Kreisler, he married Harriet Lies Woers who was a divorced tobacco heiress that, coming from a
prestige and wealthy family, faced opposition from her family but evidently both Kreisler and Harriet
ignored their disapproval and went forth with becoming spouses. As for Wagner, when he met his soon
to be wife Cosima, she was already married to von Bulow whom she just bore three children with.
Unable to resist Wagner, Cosima divorced von Bulow and married Wagner the same year of 1870.
Lastly regarding their biography, both artists died from a case of heart failure. Suffering from cases
leading toward hearing loss and sight deterioration due to cataracts and his previous accidents
including his coma from getting stuck by a bus in New York, Kreisler passed away in 1962 from a
heart condition. As for Wagner he died on February 13, 1883 in Ca Vendramin Calergi due to heart

Leadership Theories Of Leadership Styles
Leadership theories
The full spectrum of leadership styles is broad. The leadership styles continuum ranges from very
directive to very non directive: Autocratic, Benevolent Autocratic, Consultative, Participative,
Consensus, and Laissez Faire (Gibson, 1995). The autocratic leader an authority who make decisions
or set goals and does not feel the need to explain them. The benevolent autocratic leader also rely on
authority for decision making, but may explain the thought process behind the decisions. Meanwhile,
the consultative leader will obtain feedback from employees after developing their own ideas and will
consider their subordinates input before making the decision. A consensus building leader asks for
democratic decision making process where all members votes in the group are at least nominally
equal. A laissez faire leader will let subordinates make decisions for themselves (Gibson, 1995).
Figure 1 Leadership Continuum (Gibson)
Leadership styles are the tools used by managers and leaders to implement their plans and vision
through their subordinates. There are numerous theories and practices to for these managers and
leaders to select from, and for this discussion, we will focus on four leadership styles (Transactional,
Transformational, Servant Leadership, and Authentic) as a metric to measure cultural influence on the
selected leadership styles. These four leadership styles are used to show distinct leadership style as
described in figure 2. This chart shows

The Media s Portrayal Of Women
Introduction
The portrayal of women in the media has drastically changed through the years. Those changes can be
viewed as positive or negative, but many times they impose an influence on female viewers. Those
influences often lead to damaging outcomes such as eating disorders and depression. The range of
influences and effects caused by the portrayal of women is wide and also includes low self esteem,
body image issues and the need to be a sex symbol. The Social Learning Theory is important in
understanding how women are affected by their presence in the media. The modeling process included
within the theory is essential to identifying how women are overwhelmed with images of the perfect
or ideal body. Those images are generally largely unrealistic. Many statistics show an increase of
eating disorders and other mental health issues as women are subjected to images of societal and
media perfection. This is an example of the modeling process. This paper will explain the effects and
concerns that result from exposure to the media s portrayal of women, what Social Learning is and
how it applies to that exposure.

My Favorite Reading
Literacy has always been an important part of my life. Unfortunately, I actually do not recall the
moment when I realized that I could read by myself. I also do not remember reading or writing in my
early years (kindergarten and first grade) or what my teachers taught me about literacy during that
time. However, that doesn t mean that literacy wasn t important to me. I have always loved reading.
My favorite moments from elementary school were when my favorite teachers would read to me and
my classmates. I loved when my second grade teacher, Ms. Walker, and my fourth grade teacher, Mrs.
Seymour, would read. I loved hearing them read because of how animated and excited they would be
when they read to me and my class. Seeing them get excited to read made me feel the same way. I feel
like their actions and feelings definitely encouraged me to feel excited to read books. In elementary
school, I enjoyed reading a variety of books. In the beginning I loved reading picture books of course.
I loved picture books because of the vibrant images that the pages had. I also loved them because
usually, someone else was reading the books for me. One of my favorite memories is my mom reading
me a picture book that was in Spanish at home. She made the book so much fun and I realized that we
both had something in common. That we both liked to read. When I realized this, it made me feel like
me and my mom had a special connection that my siblings didn t have with her. This encouraged me
to read more books and eventually ask my mom to take me to the library in our free time. She would
take me once a week so I could choose a couple of books for us to read. As I got older, I moved on to
chapter books and realized that I really loved them. I remember that in second grade I would always
read scary stories, Goosebumps, the Junie B. Jones books, and the Magic Tree House books. While
reading these types of books, I discovered that I really loved reading books. I figured out that I loved
reading books so much because in a way, they created another world in my mind. While reading
books, I would make images in my head of what I was reading and that made reading so much more
fun. In middle school and high school, I still really enjoyed

The Story behind Diamonds
Diamonds are one of the most popular minerals in the world and yet people are not aware of the
circumstances it takes to acquire this such unique mineral. Many people would agree when I say that
this mineral is such a nice thing to look at, but few people actually know what it is made of and how it
was formed. These precious minerals are composed of Carbon. The process to making this immaculate
mineral is as following. First, you must bury Carbon dioxide deep into the earth; approximately, 100
miles deep. Second, you must heat the substance at a temperature of 2,200 degrees fahrenheit. Next,
squeeze or tightly compact the substance under pressure of 725,000 pounds per square inch. Finally, it
must quickly rush to the earths surface to cool off. All this must be done just to create diamond.
Luckily for some men, scientist have created an alternative of the mined diamonds, it is a synthetic
diamond composed of the same things and look almost identical. So if you re planning to pop the big
question soon you have options with that part of the proposal. When you think of the price of real
diamonds you might think that they are pretty expensive and what makes them so special. Along with
its looks, it is a rare mineral that still has a high demand. The places where you can find high
concentrations are usually far away. As a matter of fact, the location that has the largest concentration
of diamonds is in central and southern Africa. It is reported that they have 49% of

At the age 4, I graduated from the Head Start program. My mom was only 18 years, unemployed, and
no high school diploma. She could not afford day care and my natural father was an estranged

The Mesosystems level had the greatest impact on this learner s development. At age 7, her mother
divorced, remarried an addict/Blues singer with his own business. Her step father raped her when she
was 11 years old at the new home she relocated to with hem mom and year siblings. Her status from
the oldest sibling moved to the middle child. She had a step sister 7 years older, a step sister 4 years
older, a step brother 2 years older and a step sister 2 years younger.
At the age of 14, her mother divorced and they returned to her grandmother home. Again, the family
unit changed. It was her grandmother, mother, step brother, step sister, natural sister, and natural
brother living in the home. Let s not forget the alcoholic uncle. And, at the age of 17, her mother
remarried for the third time to a man who thought he was still a sergeant in the army. 6.
Great emphasis was placed on education was of the all throughout the learner s life. All seven children

part of the work for the course is simulation based. The simulation will provide you with experience
applying the strategic concepts you learn throughout the course. The simulation is run by an external
vendor, Glo bus, and there is a small fee (less than $40.00) to participate. You will pay this by credit

Discussion Board Participation criteria In this class, online contributions are an important component
of the course. All case analyses and discussions will be conducted via Discussion Board (DB), so be
sure to focus on these! Evaluation of your participation will be based on both the quality and
consistency of your contribution and effort. First and foremost, the purpose of the DB is to discuss

sufficient. Your ability to integrate text concepts, raise and answer questions, develop and raise ideas

Is Lying Justified Research Paper
Lying: Is it Justified?
People are often faced with the decision of whether or not they should speak honestly to their friends.
To many people, there are certain types of lies. But to others, all lies are the same, whether they are
bad or good. About 65% of Americans think that lying is okay when saving someone s life (Article
#1). However, I believe lying can be justified when you are protecting someone s feelings or life.
Firstly, I have lied before, I am a teenager, after all, but it s only to help someone, never to hurt them.
From personal experience, I remember someone asked me if their drawing looked good or not. Now, I
don t want to hurt their feelings, by saying something mean by saying, No, I don t like it. That would
be a bit harsh. So, of course, I lied with something nice like, Yeah, it looks good. Even though I felt
guilty afterwards, I was hoping my opinion would encourage them to work harder, and they ll
continue being my friend.
Besides that, the other reason lying is justified is from the article The U.S. Political Campaign: Lies,
Lies, Lies, by Paul Gray, Michael Duffy, Priscilla Painton, and Elizabeth Rudulph. During the
Holocaust, Anne Frank and her family hat to hide from the Nazi s, so that they wouldn t be put into a

Wilbur In Charlotte s Web
Charlotte is truly the ideal role model of unconditional love in Charlotte s Web. We know Charlotte s
nature very well. She was Wilbur s best friend and savior; beautiful and intelligent. When it comes to
Wilbur, Charlotte sees him more than just another animal in the community, but as her special and best
friend, vice versa with Wilbur too. Charlotte felt that through all her lifespan, she finally found
someone who can lift up her life. Perhaps it s just because Wilbur is willing to see beyond her
bloodthirsty nature, nevertheless, helping Wilbur gives Charlotte a good feeling and a life purpose.

The first stage, denial can be seen when Wilbur first learned of his purpose for being fattened up.
Frighten and scared, he didn t know what to do but cry for help. However, Charlotte comes along
willing to save him for the sake of friendship. Charlotte continues to reassure and help Wilbur as he
repeatedly asks if he will be safe. Another key point of denial is evident when Charlotte explains that
she won t be able to see her children (146). Importantly for this section, the five stages of death can be
seen systematically followed by denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance (Ross 7). With
Wilbur anger and denial outburst, Charlotte calmly comforts Wilbur and rationalize that it s her life
that is coming to an end that there will be a time when Wilbur s come to terms of his death as
Charlotte s did. Charlotte quickly came to term with acceptance that she would only last another one
or two days. She reminisces the day with Wilbur and how happy she felt being with him. Wilbur s own
acceptance of Charlotte s death came when he plead Templeton to take down Charlotte s egg sack.
The powerful death scene can be understood how much Wilbur and Charlotte loved each other when
Wilbur silently wink at Charlotte; as she understood, with all her strength she waved one of her front
leg at him

new competitions like IPhone from Apple that introduced smartphones, along with Android by
Google, and Samsung. Even though Nokia Company results for 2012 were pre much good by having
101982 workers across 120 countries along with sales in more than 150 countries, and the reports for
revenue were around 30€ billion. Nokia was announced to be the second largest world for mobiles

Labor Relations In Labour Relations
Labor Relations Labour relations refers to the relations between employee and employers. They are
affected by certain factors, including the labor market, collective bargaining, labor organization,
government policies, economy conditions, labor law and technological change. Since industrial
relations are frequently associated with unions, it is important that in Canada, until the 1970s, a larger
piece of unions and union individuals had a place with American based specialty and mechanical
unions. The incidences of the strike have raised a lot in North American labor relations. The latest one
is Ontario college teacher s strike which was the longest college strike in Ontario history. Developing
a labor relation plan Labor relation plan is a study and practice of managing unionized employment
situation and work relations to distinguish the objectives in labor relations wanted by work or
administration, separately or together; to decide the methodology expected to achieve those
objectives, and to build up the activities expected to do that system. An important professional
association for Canada labor relations scholar s and practitioners is the labor and employment relation
association. All labor legislation weather it s federal or provincial has certain features in common: fair

The Ethics Of Animal Experimentation
For centuries, the ethics of animal experimentation in the biomedical field have been questioned. The
primary concern is whether the animals used in research outweigh the pain the animals endure.
Animal rights activists will argue that there are new alternatives, which are more accurate than animal
testing. The success of animal trials has continued the use by scientists within the medical field.
Additionally, testing on animals eliminate harm to humans. The first Animal Cruelty Act was created
in 1835 to regulate the use of animals for scientific purposes (Franco, 2013). According to Franco
(2013, p. 256). the enactment of the 1986 Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act remains the only known
legislation to regulate animal experiments for nearly 50 years. Even so, there will continue to be two
sides of animal research. One side believes, without animal research there would not be the medical
advancements and on the other hand, the use of animal research is unethical. Finding new alternatives
may also be even more beneficial than animal testing. The medical field should seek alternatives to
animal research or the methods are refined to reduce unethical. Animal research has been used to
improve human advancements towards medicine and technology. Animal testing is vital to discover
the side effects of medicine, which can be tested on animals first, rather than tested on human begins.
This may help eliminate potential threats to humans. For example, according to Archibald

Comparing Hamlet And Ophelia
Tainted Hearts
Insecure love is a love that sees no future. In Shakespeare s Hamlet, Prince of Denmark Ophelia and
Hamlet s love falls victim to their own insecurities and therefore drastically fails. The relationship that
ensues between Ophelia and Hamlet is complicated and questioned continuously in modern day
analysis of the play. Their relationship proves to be important to the story in many different ways,
including how it affects the characters as individuals throughout the play. Shakespeare s use of
character development, the effects of grief, and an overall theme of insecure love in their relationship
further contributes to the meaning of the play as a whole.

Not one character is confident enough to speak out against or even for their partner or loved ones,
resulting in their disastrous endings. The way Hamlet and Ophelia interact with each other is easily
connected to how they interact with their parents. Hamlet s relationship with his mother is extremely
complicated; almost as much as his relationship with Ophelia. Gertrude is physically harmed by her
son numerous times, and is often highly insulted as well. During their confrontation of Hamlet s
behaviour, Hamlet even states (Hamlet offends mom). This complete negligence for his mother s
feelings perfectly reflects in his relationship with Ophelia. When Ophelia confronts Hamlet of his
feelings not only does he physically harm her, but he also states (nunnery quote). This quote is a near
mirror image of the previous to his mother, emphasizing his contempt of the women surrounding him.
Hamlet refuses to speak any truth to the characters surrounding him; ultimately destroying them with
himself, taking his relationship with Ophelia down as well. Opposedly, Ophelia and Polonius
relationship is respectful in both ways, yet fragile too. Ophelia is completely compliant to her father
and is even willing to give up Hamlet to affiliate to his needs. Polonius treats Ophelia more as a pet
however than a daughter; either showing her off to the king and queen or baiting her for Hamlet. Both
Polonius and Laertes seem to value her virginity more than herself as a person. This argument can be
easily proven by (Two quotes from Polonius and Laertes about Ophelia staying a virgin). Since this
behaviour is so familiar to Ophelia, it is no wonder why she allows Hamlet to treat her the

The Death Penalty Debate Essay
The Death Penalty Debate
The issue of the death penalty is widely disputed. So disputed that maybe I shouldn t have picked this
topic. But nevertheless, the death penalty is an issue that needs to be addressed. Should the death
penalty be abolished from our criminal justice system? Well, that depends on whom you ask. If you
ask me... no. I personally don t see anything wrong with the death penalty because there are a lot of
criminals that are just too dangerous to society and death is the only punishment they deserve.
I know that it is in the eighth amendment that prohibits cruel and unusual punishment, and I can t
think of a greater punishment for a crime than death, but I believe that exceptions should be made.

The most recent state to enact a death penalty law was New York in 1995. As of January 1998, 38

Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, North Dakota, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia,
and Wisconsin do not have a death penalty. (http://www.uaa.alaska.edu/just/death/)
Death penalty advocates argue that the execution of convicted murderers deter others from committing
murder for fear that they will also be executed, and also that murderers will be incapacitated: once
dead, they will have no opportunity to commit additional murders. Death penalty opponents dispute
the deterrent effect of capital punishment, arguing that few murderers rationally weigh the possibility
that they might face the death penalty before committing a murder. Finally, death penalty opponents
do not dispute that execution incapacitates executed murders, but argue that life imprisonment without
possibility of parole is equally incapacitating. (Jacob Sullum, Los Angeles)

The Factors Influencing California Teacher Credentialing

From the time California was admitted to the Union through today, the requirements for formal

changes in immigrant communities, as well as scientific research on social emotional, physical and
cognitive development of students. Changes in teaching style trends have also been influenced by the
same factors. The success of the education system in California continues to be dependent on the

headed for the future. With the help of research, I hope to find the specific factors the state use to
determine best practices. Do best practices differ according to the demographics the public school is
serving? How big of a role does each factor play in curriculum and teacher training? I also want to
focus on the current use of Professional Learning Communities and the requirement of Professional
Development. How have these newer practices changed the effectiveness of teaching? In Early
Childhood we have always had to fulfill Professional Development requirements in order to maintain
or upgrade Early Childhood Credential Permits. How new is the requirement for Professional
Development for multi subject teachers in maintaining their credential? Through research for this
paper in addition to tracking the changes in credentialing requirements of educators, I hope to discover
if California has been able to keep up with the ever changing educational needs of our population; or
if the state has had to play catch up at some points in time. Are we alone in the challenges we

The Looking Glass Self
The Looking Glass Self by Charles H. Cooley
I will be talking about the looking glass self, made famous by famed American sociologist Charles
Horton Cooley. This concept stems from our interpersonal perception of what another individual s
impression is on us and how we form ourselves towards that initial perception. Out of all the theories
that are at our disposal in sociology, this is the theory that interested me the most and here is why. To
me the looking glass self is not just a concept or a theory but is a vital step in socialization because it s
an interaction we all experience. To me it has aspects of issues we go through today, the big one being
conformity, because the looking glass self is simply a form of conformity. This is ... Show more

We develop that consciousness of socialization as we get more mature. I think about the age of six we
develop it the most. We are starting school and being exposed to kids our age and it puts a little
pressure on us to be who we need to be. So I feel that it favors kids older than five or six years of age.
To me it does not favor gender in any way. We may think that girls think about it more than guys but
really it probably equals itself out. Guys think about how others think just as much as girls.
We can then go into how the theory changes or how it has changed over time. I think that it really has
not changed much over time. We as humans have not really changed all that much as time has
progressed, but the world around us has. The one constant has been us humans and our human
processes. Now the future is a different story. I think that we as humans are at a point in history that
technology is what is driving the world. I feel that over the last 1000 years we haven t changed much
in a sociological way. But over the next 1000 years I feel sociologically we are going to be changing
quite a bit. The world is evolving at a rate that will exceed how we humans evolve. What others think
of us might not change much, but how we view ourselves is bound to have some changes.
The looking glass self theory is a very hard theory to go into detail on. It really has to do

Romanticism s Sublime Style in Rip Van Winkle, Legend of Sleepy Hollow and Billy Budd
Sublime refers to an aesthetic value in which the primary factor is the presence or suggestion of
transcendent vastness or greatness, as of power, heroism, extent in space or time (Internet
Encyclopedia). This essay will explore different levels of Romanticism s sublime style in Washington
Irving s Rip Van Winkle, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow and Herman Melville s Billy Budd. The essay
will particularly focus on how the writers incorporate the spiritual and the terror aspects of the sublime
into their work.
American romanticism requires the wilds of nature to be the setting for the sublime. It is in this setting
that the protagonist ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Longinus writes in his Peri Hypsous. For as if instinctively, our soul is uplifted by the true sublime; it
takes a proud flight, and is filled with joy and vaunting, as though it had itself produced what it has

Friedrich von Schiller, a German poet and philosopher from the 18th century, suggests there is more to
the sublime than a feeling of transcendence. ?The beautiful, says Schiller, is valuable only with
reference to the human being, but the sublime with reference to the pure daemon in man, the statutes
of pure spirit? (qtd. in Weiskel 3). Daemon is translated from the German language÷demon. Schiller is
suggesting that the sublime is more than physical beauty. For the sublime to be meaningful it needs to
include the goblins lurking about inside the human.
Like Schiller, Edmund Burke a British philosopher from the 18th century, also suggests the sublime is
more than a transcending feeling; it includes an intense feeling of terror. In his Section VII Of the
Sublime Burke writes:
Whatever is fitted in any sort to excite the ideas of pain, and danger, that is to say, whatever is in any
sort terrible, or is conversant about terrible objects, or operates in a manner analogous to terror, is a
source of the sublime, that is, it is productive of the strongest emotion which the mind is capable of
feeling. (qtd. in Boulton 39)
Schiller suggests mans evil nature should be included in the sublime, and Burke

  • 4. William Shakespeare s The Winter s Tale Essay William Shakespeare s The Winter s Tale In Shakespeare s The Winter s Tale, the playwright introduces his audience to a world blending natural imagery with that of ancient religion. Appearing as nature s child, Perdita fails to realize her own identity and does not recognize that the flowers she describes mimic her own image. Just as gillyvors are a result of crossbreeding, the shepherdess is essentially one of nature s bastards since she eventually discovers Porrus has been an adoptive father for her, and Leontes is her biological father. Pharmaceutical advertisements has been the subject of deliberation for more than a century. • 6. Political Changes In The Tang Dynasty Political changes in this time period in East Asia included the fall of the Tang and the rise of the Song. The Tang dynasty was in the midst of internal rebellion and nomadic invasions (Martin 117). This eventually led to the abdication of the last emperor, causing the Tang to fall (Bentley and Ziegler 286). One major change during the Tang era was the rule of Wu Zhao, a female leader. This was surprising, considering the Confucian belief that women should not lead, but instead be lead by men. The Song dynasty arose when centralized imperial rule was reestablished by warlords who ruled China after the Tang dynasty s collapse. The Yuan dynasty eventually fell because of rebellions and assassinations, along with the flawed accounts of the wealth that backed up the flying money. Under Ming rule, Mongol influences were swapped for Chinese culture as Emperor Hongwu reinstated the traditional Confucian curriculum in education and the civil service exams. In Japan, as the Heian period (794 1192) declined, the power was transferred from the emperor to the shogun. During the Heian period, Japan was ruled by local rulers who answered to the emperor, who was still considered the supreme political power of Japan (Bentley and Ziegler 300). The emperor, in turn, was controlled by the powerful Fujiwara family. Heian Japan declined, however, as Japan was divided into estates ruled by aristocrats. • 7. Cleaning A Car Washing a Car for Idiots My car is always dirty from driving around in fields and dirt roads. I have had my license for just over a year now, and have discovered a three step process to make your car sparkle after you are done washing it. First you have to gather your materials, second you wash the car with soap, and third you dry your car off. There are many different types of supplies you can use to wash your car but i have found out that the basics do the same job as the fancy cleaning supplies. The most important supplies are a bucket, a large sponge, hose with running water, and soap. The brand of soap you use plays a big role in how shiny and clean your car will get. To ensure that your don t miss any areas break your car up into five areas top ,two sides, front, and back. You start at the top of your car so that the dirt on top does not run down onto parts of the car that you have already cleaned. On the top of the car, first you wet the entire roof with water. Second grab you sponge that has been soaking in your soap and bubbles and cover the entire roof with suds. Third rinse off the top of the car Making sure no suds are left. After that re soak your sponge in the bucket and re apply to the roof. The reason you apply the suds to the roof twice it to ensure all the dirt is removed and it is thoroughly cleaned. After you finish the roof you can move on to the next section of your car. Repeat the same steps you did for the roof on each of the other four sections. This will ensure that all the dirt and grime is removed from the car. Once you have finished washing the body and windows of your car you can move down to the rims and tires. The tires and rims are washed last so that the sponge doesn t get gravel stuck in it and therefor the gravel will scratch the body paint on the car. The same process for washing the car is applied to the rims and tires. The third step for having a clean and sparkling car is to hand dry the car after you are finished washing it. The reason you hand dry it is so no watermarks or soap stains are left behind. It usually takes about two beach towels to dry the whole car. To dry the car properly use the wax on wax off method that Mr. Miyagi taught in the karate kid. • 8. Compare And Contrast Lincoln And The Civil War The American Civil War was undeniably one of the most influential events in the formation of the United States and what it is today. There were several prominent figures on both the side of the Union and the Confederacy. Two important individuals from this era were President Abraham Lincoln and General Nathan Bedford Forrest. These two men fought on opposite sides of the war, Lincoln supporting the Union and Forrest the Confederacy. They both found great success during the war, despite their drastically differing approaches and beliefs. Of the two, Lincoln had a more positive and lasting influence on the United States and the values held to this day. Forrest and Lincoln both had a strong effect on society and the American people at the time. Lincoln impacted the North heavily with his beliefs and values, whereas Forrest had a strong hold on those supporting the Confederacy. He primarily had an influence over the soldiers and troops under his command. While Forrest only directly held the attention of his troops, Lincoln being the President of the United States, had more of an impact on the citizens through public contact and delivering speeches. President Lincoln and General Forrest encouraged different qualities in their followers. Lincoln valued equality, empathy and freedom. Forrest was a general in the Confederate army and therefore focused much more on action and success on the battlefield to spread his cause. The Marketing Strategy Analysis of Starbucks Corporation Introduction Under today s ever changing market, strategic marketing planning has become more and more significant whether of the functional or the fundamental. Especially, although financial crisis leaded economy growth slowdown, it did not cause a serious influence for chain coffee shop. As Howard Schultz said, CEO of Starbucks, I don t think we had a business plan for the severity of what has taken place. History demonstrated to us that a downturn in the economy would not affect us, and in fact, we would be recession proof. (Jobber and Fahy, 2009) Therefore, the strategic marketing becomes more and more significant since it can help organizations to find its own position of the competitive market; thus, they just can justify their strategy against whether the existing or the potential competitors. Therefore, organizations should classify the marketing environment including competitive environment (its immediate competitors and customers) and the macro environment (the wider social, political and economic setting they operate.) In order to develop the right strategy whether for short term or long term, organizations not only need to know the concept of strategic marketing but also how to use it within the competitive marketing. In addition, fundamental to strategic thinking is the concept of strategic fit. It indicates how organizations match the internal resources and capabilities with the opportunities in the external environment. The strategic model used to evaluate the appropriateness of the vision or decision making of the organizations (Hooley G et al 2008). • 12. Apartheid And The System Of Apartheid In South Africa Ever since Hitler s reign of segregating the Jews from Germans during World War ll, nobody thought that would ever happen again because of how horrible it was and how many lives were lost because of it. That was until 1948 when Apartheid started. Apartheid is a system of racial segregation in South Africa enforced through legislation by the National Party and the government. The whites wanted domination of the non whites and all the power. To do so, the government got rid of many of their rights. The black population was not very fond of this and wanted their rights back. In fact, the black population made up 72% of South Africa and the whites only made up 16%, which is way less than the blacks. The reason there was not many whites was because Britain gained control over South Africa and were controlling everything and everyone. It started out with a numerous amount of laws and statements the government created. The Afrikaner National Party creates the policy of apartheid, initially putting it into effect. Then came classifying the races during the Population Registration Act. Soon enough separate public spaces were created to make sure the blacks and whites didn t interact. Homelands were created for the blacks, striping them of their South African Citizenship and making them carry around passports. This relates very closely to when Hitler made the Jews wear the star of david and carry around their papers to identify them. Like the jews, the blacks were forced out of their homes and forced to live on the new reserves. Everything that was happening helped the white minority gain more power because the Africans were limited to what they could do. Since many blacks did not like the pass laws that were created, they would go against them to support their families. The consequences for not following the pass laws were harassment, fines, and getting arrested. This led to many blacks wanting to get their rights back and be equal with the whites. Many tried to end apartheid, including Nelson Mandela. Nelson Mandela was an anti apartheid radical and leader of the African National Congress(ANC). Despite their disparities, Wagner and Kreisler prove to have transformed music through their innovations in their own compositions. Regarding their biography, Wagner and Fritz have paraded their interests in music from an early age. Fritz Kreisler, born February 2, 1875, embodied the persona of a true child prodigy starting at the age of 4 when he was given a violin and with no prior knowledge of scales or notes he was able to play the Austrian National Anthem from start to finish perfectly. Unable to resist Wagner, Cosima divorced von Bulow and married Wagner the same year of 1870. Lastly regarding their biography, both artists died from a case of heart failure. Suffering from cases leading toward hearing loss and sight deterioration due to cataracts and his previous accidents including his coma from getting stuck by a bus in New York, Kreisler passed away in 1962 from a heart condition. During the time that Boo or Arthur Radley was being kept in his house by his own father, many of the townspeople became almost superstitious about Boo, they would say he would walk by their own houses and scratch on their windows, one lady even said she saw him through the window others said he walks by shuffling his feet but I think with a mind like Boo he would be too scared or shy even to leave his house knowing that everyone in town was disgusted at his sight. The whole reason Boo was to be kept in his house, was he first locked Maycomb s county beadle in an outhouse then stabbed his father s leg with a pair of scissors, whether that was an accident we have no idea, but all his mother did ... • 19. The Media s Portrayal Of Women Introduction The portrayal of women in the media has drastically changed through the years. Those changes can be viewed as positive or negative, but many times they impose an influence on female viewers. Those influences often lead to damaging outcomes such as eating disorders and depression. The range of influences and effects caused by the portrayal of women is wide and also includes low self esteem, body image issues and the need to be a sex symbol. The Social Learning Theory is important in understanding how women are affected by their presence in the media. The modeling process included within the theory is essential to identifying how women are overwhelmed with images of the perfect or ideal body. Those images are generally largely unrealistic. Many statistics show an increase of eating disorders and other mental health issues as women are subjected to images of societal and media perfection. This is an example of the modeling process. This paper will explain the effects and concerns that result from exposure to the media s portrayal of women, what Social Learning is and how it applies to that exposure. Literature Review The statistics that identify an increase in eating disorders and other mental health issues due to the presentation of women, especially young women, in the media is shockingly significant. • 20. My Favorite Reading Literacy has always been an important part of my life. Unfortunately, I actually do not recall the moment when I realized that I could read by myself. I also do not remember reading or writing in my early years (kindergarten and first grade) or what my teachers taught me about literacy during that time. However, that doesn t mean that literacy wasn t important to me. I have always loved reading. My favorite moments from elementary school were when my favorite teachers would read to me and my classmates. I loved when my second grade teacher, Ms. Walker, and my fourth grade teacher, Mrs. Seymour, would read. I loved hearing them read because of how animated and excited they would be when they read to me and my class. Seeing them get excited to read made me feel the same way. I feel like their actions and feelings definitely encouraged me to feel excited to read books. In elementary school, I enjoyed reading a variety of books. In the beginning I loved reading picture books of course. I loved picture books because of the vibrant images that the pages had. I also loved them because usually, someone else was reading the books for me. One of my favorite memories is my mom reading me a picture book that was in Spanish at home. She made the book so much fun and I realized that we both had something in common. That we both liked to read. When I realized this, it made me feel like me and my mom had a special connection that my siblings didn t have with her. This encouraged me to read more books and eventually ask my mom to take me to the library in our free time. She would take me once a week so I could choose a couple of books for us to read. As I got older, I moved on to chapter books and realized that I really loved them. I remember that in second grade I would always read scary stories, Goosebumps, the Junie B. Jones books, and the Magic Tree House books. While reading these types of books, I discovered that I really loved reading books. I figured out that I loved reading books so much because in a way, they created another world in my mind. While reading books, I would make images in my head of what I was reading and that made reading so much more fun. In middle school and high school, I still really enjoyed ... Many people would agree when I say that this mineral is such a nice thing to look at, but few people actually know what it is made of and how it was formed. These precious minerals are composed of Carbon. The process to making this immaculate mineral is as following. First, you must bury Carbon dioxide deep into the earth; approximately, 100 miles deep. Second, you must heat the substance at a temperature of 2,200 degrees fahrenheit. Next, squeeze or tightly compact the substance under pressure of 725,000 pounds per square inch. Finally, it must quickly rush to the earths surface to cool off. All this must be done just to create diamond. Luckily for some men, scientist have created an alternative of the mined diamonds, it is a synthetic diamond composed of the same things and look almost identical. So if you re planning to pop the big question soon you have options with that part of the proposal. When you think of the price of real diamonds you might think that they are pretty expensive and what makes them so special. Along with its looks, it is a rare mineral that still has a high demand. The places where you can find high concentrations are usually far away. As a matter of fact, the location that has the largest concentration of diamonds is in central and southern Africa. To many people, there are certain types of lies. But to others, all lies are the same, whether they are bad or good. About 65% of Americans think that lying is okay when saving someone s life (Article #1). However, I believe lying can be justified when you are protecting someone s feelings or life. Firstly, I have lied before, I am a teenager, after all, but it s only to help someone, never to hurt them. From personal experience, I remember someone asked me if their drawing looked good or not. Now, I don t want to hurt their feelings, by saying something mean by saying, No, I don t like it. That would be a bit harsh. So, of course, I lied with something nice like, Yeah, it looks good. Even though I felt guilty afterwards, I was hoping my opinion would encourage them to work harder, and they ll continue being my friend. Besides that, the other reason lying is justified is from the article The U.S. Political Campaign: Lies, Lies, Lies, by Paul Gray, Michael Duffy, Priscilla Painton, and Elizabeth Rudulph. The success of animal trials has continued the use by scientists within the medical field. Additionally, testing on animals eliminate harm to humans. The first Animal Cruelty Act was created in 1835 to regulate the use of animals for scientific purposes (Franco, 2013). Friedrich von Schiller, a German poet and philosopher from the 18th century, suggests there is more to the sublime than a feeling of transcendence. ?The beautiful, says Schiller, is valuable only with reference to the human being, but the sublime with reference to the pure daemon in man, the statutes of pure spirit?
