Catapult Research Paper
During the Middle Ages, many weapons were created to help in the winning battles. There was a
weapon was the siege engine called a catapult. The term catapult came from the Greek word
katapultos . A catapult was a large machine on wheels with a basket attached to a long wooden arm
and a power source for hurling projectiles on the other. The first catapult however was invented around
400 BC in Greek town Syracuse. It was not the type seen so many times at our own wars in today s
Society for Creative Anachronism. The first catapult closely resembled a crossbow. It was called the
Gastraphete, and worked similar to a crossbow. The Gastraphete had to be pointed at the ground and
the operator had to use great force to set the weapon to fire. The Greeks were so impresses with the ...

The men would bring down the shorter end of the long beam or arm, causing the longer end of the arm
to flip up, causing the basket to loose it s projectile towards the intended target. Some of these siege
weapons were held by men and cause some difficulty in battle.Gravity powered catapults simply used
gravity to hurl the projectile. At its most basic understanding, a gravity catapult is simply a lever that
uses centrifugal force to its advantage. Think of it as a modified seesaw. When two people are on the
seesaw and both are of close weight, the seesaw balances itself. If another person came up and jumped
on one end of the seesaw with one of the people, the single person on the opposite end is likely to
become airborne. Like the seesaw, a gravity powered catapult is also pivoted in the middle. A counter
weight was built onto one end of the catapult and a basket or sling on the other. The projectile end was
pulled down forcing the counterweighted end to

Essay On Automated Appointment Reminders
Enhanced automated appointment reminders are an economically reasonable strategy in reducing no
show rates, which can impact the clinic s financial sustainability and our ability to deliver optimal
health care in a timely fashion. In order to accomplish the quality improvement project, a project team
will be assembled, which will involve key stakeholders such as the health center s regional practice
administrator, the clinic manager, the front desk personnel, a provider liaison, a clinic nurse, in
addition to IT s systems manager. Our regional practice administrator will serve in championing the
mission and raising responsiveness at the senior level (Communications Acceptance Management).

American Education Ideology Research Paper

ENGL 1101
29 July 2015
The American Education Ideology
The importance of education is highly emphasized in American culture today. According to most
members of society, the more educated a person is, the better off they will be in the long run. The idea
that the furthering of one s education is important and is something everyone should partake in even as
adults can be considered an ideology, which is a system of beliefs or theories held by an individual or
a group.
Because of this educational growth mindset, plenty of American parents enroll their children in some
type of school program at an early age. According to the National Center for Education Statistics, the
percentage of American children who attend

Randy Stair Argumentative Essay
Dallas man was believed to kill and hold his three co workers captive inside a closed northeast
Pennsylvania grocery store overnight Thursday involuntarily guided police as he left traces behind
him when he posted a video on his Twitter account, praising the shooters of Columbine High School
of 1999.
Wyoming County District Attorney Jeff Mitchell said that that suspect Randy Stair, 24, posted a 42
minute video footage about a brutal attack at the time of the killings.
The video footage features Stair praising Columbine shooters Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold as heroes
and he was kissing a loaded weapon.
Police say Stair got two pistol grip shotguns in order to work at the store in rural Tunkhannock, about
150 miles north west of New York City (241 kilometres). Stir closed store exits and started shooting
around 1 a.m. A fourth co worker roughly escaped the massacre and called the police. ... Show more

longstanding mental health issues that resulted in this horrible tragedy.
He killed Terry Sterling, 63, of South Montrose; Victoria Brong, 26, of Factoryville; and Brian Hayes,
47, of Springville.
It s just unspeakable, it really is, Mitchell said. These people went to work and they lost their lives
because they went to work. It s senseless.
Stair reportedly hated his night manager. However, it is unclear which of the victims held the position.
Ironically, the night manager apparently liked him, Mitchell

Comparing the Themes of Love in Lord Byron s “She Walks in...
There are many different themes that can be used to make a poem both successful and memorable.
Such is that of the universal theme of love. This theme can be developed throughout a poem through
an authors use of form and content. She Walks in Beauty, by George Gordon, Lord Byron, is a poem
that contains an intriguing form with captivating content. Lord Byron, a nineteenth century poet,
writes this poem through the use of similes and metaphors to describe a beautiful woman. His patterns
and rhyme scheme enthrall the reader into the poem. Another poem with the theme of love is John
Keats La Belle Dame sans Merci, meaning the beautiful lady without mercy. Keats, another nineteenth
century writer, uses progression and compelling ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The last line compares the maiden to Heaven because they both deny bad days. The second stanza of
Lord Byron s poem focuses on the woman s perfect face. The beautiful shades and rays of the womans
complexion make her a nameless grace (2, 2). This conveys the idea that her inner beauty is reflected
in her outer beauty in the sense that she is pure and innocent on the inside so she radiates that beauty
on the outside. This stanza reveals her serene thoughts: Where thoughts serenely sweet express, How
pure, how dear their dwelling place.
The dwelling place is her pure mind. This maiden can be called an innocent love because Lord Byron
s use of words propose that she may have never been in love, so she does not know about it. The last
stanza in this poem considers the woman s physical description and moral character. Her so soft [and]
so calm flow radiates peace and goodness.
This woman may remind the reader of an angel when thinking of this description.
The last line, a heart whose love is innocent, reflects that the woman is truly pure and has a good
heart. This line leave the reader feeling very peaceful knowing that this maiden is pure and true in her
innocence. La Belle Dame sans Merci takes on a different view of the theme of love. This poem is
broken down into three parts. In the first part of the poem, the speaker appears to be some unknown

It is necessary to know about the variation of effects of hypoxia if any on the persons depending on
their age and sex. As the effects of hypoxia may or may not present for a long time, it is necessary to
conduct tests on the pilots regarding hypoxia for each flight or in some airlines, they test pilots for the
effects of hypoxia before each flight (Sharma L: 2007) so that necessary medication could be given.
However, according to Good W.A (1991, 104) the performance of the pilots might be degraded with
both prescribed and over the counter medications as well as by the medical conditions for which they
are taken (Good W.A; 1991, 104). Normally, the medicines of hypoxia are sedative, tranquilizer or
antihistamine. These medicines make a pilot much more susceptible to hypoxia (Good W.A; 1991,
104) and hence it is necessary for the pilots to minimize the use of over the counter medicines. In
addition to the above precautions alcohol can impair the pilot even many hours after its consumption
and digestion due to hangover. The impairment of pilot may cause flight accidents and some of the
major accidents give ground to the argument that hypoxia may be the reason for the inability that

directly on the process planning adopted by the company, i.e., the company can maximize its
productivity by utilizing its resources effectively. One major aspect of process analysis is to identify
the major bottlenecks in the process and trying to mitigate their effects with least possible level of
costs and resources. The following flowchart shows the overall process adopted by the company:

Order size Labor Time Cost Cost per Dozen
1 dozen 12 Rs. 4.00 Rs. 4.00
2 dozen 17 Rs. 5.66 Rs. 2.83 Thus, cost per dozen of labor is decreasing. This can be applied to orders
of more than two dozens as well. Hence, Kristen s Cookie Company can give discounts to customers
giving orders of more than one dozen because of the economies of scale as shown above.
Material Requirements:
The processor is required for mixing the ingredients for the cookies and is idle for most of the time.
The oven required for the purpose of baking is the major bottleneck and there is no requirement for
more than one processor. Hence, spending money on more than one processor would not be advisable
for Kristen s Cookie Company.
The baking trays are required for three activities, namely, filling it and keeping it ready for baking,
baking it in the oven, and cooling it after baking is done. Since the baking and cooling processes will
be going on for at most one tray at a given time and the mixing process gets material ready for at most
three trays of one dozen each, five trays would be sufficient, though, even three trays would serve the
purpose if mixing and filling activities are done properly. Hence, it is advisable for Kristen s Cookie
Company to go for at least three baking trays to maximize its productivity.

Alex Rider Book
The book Snakehead by Anthony horowitz is the seventh book in the Alex Rider books . I have to say
that every single one of the Alex Rider books give me a mind blowing snensation. I then go on to
idolize Alex Rider because he everything a teenage boy would want to have acheived. Since Alex is
fourteen years of age, the most youthful spy agent to have served Britain, the United States and
Australia, the book lands into the teenage genre which is why many young adult boys will love to read
about a 14 year old boy conquering bad guys and therefore benefiting the world. Which is a boyhood
dream. So far Snakehead has exceded my excpectations, as well as underachieved in some areas, so i
still have mixed emotions about the book. Which will probably change as i eventually read on. The
Alex Rider book has been an underachiever because it has been unrealistic. Even though its a 14 year
old boy as a spy, there should be some mild form of reality which will balance the book in between the
real and fantasy world. The over achieveing part was how he has managed to connect the previous
book to the current one im reading now, checking every box and explaining it wih beautiful and
precise writing, the prologue had no flaws and it was just like watching another episode of a seires. All
of the Alex Rider books have not been relatable to my personal life because i have not experienced

What Is The Difference Between Constant Diamond And The...
The movies Blood Diamond (2006), directed by Edward Zwick and The Constant Gardener (2005),
directed by Fernando Meirelles, both focus mainly on the exploitation of Africa, especially by The
West and Europe. By highlight these important issues the movies awaken a sense of awareness in their
audiences.
In The Constant Gardener , Rachel Weisz was cast as one of the main Characters; Tessa Quayle.
From the first memories Justin has of her in the conference room, Tessa is presented as a passionate
activist, who perhaps acts before she thinks (this is shown by her embarrassment after she boldly
shared her thoughts in the conference room). The connection she shared with the children from Africa
brings her loving and caring nature to the foreground and this motherly nature is highlighted even
further by Tessa s pregnancy. Tessa does however have an extremely secretive side which is one of the
conflicts Tessa faces with Justin. By keeping part of her life a secret, she prevents Justin from fully
understanding her, which leads to miscommunication and ultimately a breach of trust as Justin

Finding Accurate Causal Affects Of A National Supported Work
Paul Doxsee Econ 104 Finding Accurate Causal Affects Abstract An analysis was performed to see if
the effect of a National Supported Work (NSW) Demonstration study was effective in increasing the
earnings of a group of individuals. The analysis showed that, on average, those treated earned roughly
$800 more than their counterparts three years later. Because of the randomization method used when
selecting the participants, we can be confident that this estimate is causal. This randomization removes
all biases from omitted variables as well as any selection bias, because the groups were systematically
alike as shown in the analysis. Another analysis was performed using data from both the NSW study
as well as the Panel Study of Income Dynamics (PSID). This analysis showed that using non
experimental data creates biased results because the two groups are not comparable. Furthermore,
even the use of regressions in an attempt to correct this bias will not be successful and will still not
result in causal results. Introduction The National Supported Work (NSW) Demonstration study was
an experiment that took individuals with long term employment problems and randomly assigned
them to either receive or not receive a job training program. The goal of this program was to show that
these job training programs work, in that they help people get better, higher paying jobs. The results of
the study supported that. They showed that on average the earnings of the treated group after

Jane is a victim of a nervous disorder of the brain called hysteria. She is aware that she suffers from a

Jane is often irritated from the wallpaper in her room. The wallpaper above her bed is stripped off and
this bothers her immensely. She claims, I never saw a worse paper in my life (4). In fact, she hates it
with great passion by saying no wonder the children hated it! I should hate it myself if I had to live in
this room long (4). She refers back to the children from her imagination, the children that were living
in the so called nursery before her. Towards the end of the story, Jane learns to hate the room as a
result of spending so much of her time in there. She is really disturbed from the patterns of the
wallpaper. Jane comments on the patterns, as a constant irritant to a normal mind (12) because she
thinks that she has a normal mind. The color is repellent, that is, almost revolting. She says that it is
dull enough to confuse the eye in following, pronounced enough to constantly irritate and provoke
study, and when you follow the lame uncertain curves for a little distance they suddenly commit
suicide (4).
According to Freud, Jane is clearly hallucinating when she says that the lines on the wallpaper
suddenly commit suicide (6). She is greatly annoyed and bothered by the way it looks. Jane sees a
vision of death in the paper. There is a recurrent spot where the pattern lolls like a broken neck and
two bulbous eyes stare at you upside down (6). Her imagination of the wallpaper leads her to see a

Legalizing Same-Sex Marriages
The topic of legalizing same sex marriages brings up heated debates on legal, religious, moral, and
philosophical grounds. In researching material for this paper this writer could not help but read reports
that indicate that the country is fairly well divided on this issue. The debate can go round and around
and the answer to the question of legalizing same sex marriages is not as easy as it may seem. There
are solid rebuttals to any supposition one makes on the issue, making the debate a lot more interesting
than one might believe.
In general there are several philosophical arguments against same sex marriage: The first claims that
marriage is an innately reproductive union of two people and that same sex marriages innately lack the
potential for any type of reproduction, therefore it is metaphysically and biologically impossible for
homosexuals to become married to one another. Thus, same sex marriages should not occur. Critics of
this line of reasoning would state that there is no one who would support the notion of not allowing
infertile heterosexual couples or fertile heterosexual couples who do not plan to have children the right
to marry one another. Thus, this argument is not valid as an explanation of why same sex marriages
should not be allowed. However, the rebuttal to this counter argument would be that the sexual
intercourse that takes place between either infertile heterosexual couples or heterosexual couples not
desiring children is reproductive in kind.

Essay On Don John
In the play much a do about nothing by Shakespeare Don John is played as the bastard brother of Don

he tells his brother how much he loves him and that after he tells him this news he will trust him more
and will see him as a better person. At this point the audience knows that he is trying to lie his way
into tricking poor Claudio that Hero has been sleeping with men. This makes some audience members
angry and for some others it makes them happy because the climax of the play is about to begin. I
came here to tell you I ll make this short, since she s already been talked about for too long the lady is
unfaithful. Shakespeare deliberately shortens Don John s speeches to not give away a lot of
information about his evil plan so that he leaves the audience questioning. This quotation also shows
the male vs. female honor because Benedick has affairs with many women and no man complains
only Beatrice does, but when Hero is accused of having an affair with another man when she is not
even wedded her wedding would get cancelled. This is because in the 17th century women were

Reflection Paper On Communication
Analysis Communication
Communication is essential in all facets of an organization. It can aid in decision making, planning
and conflict resolution. The ability to effectively communicate allows facilitation of relationships
between superiors and subordinates; essentially this creates higher job satisfaction (Dogra, A., 2012).
Open communication where employees have opportunity to voice their ideas and concerns, corelates
to employees feeling a sense of value within the organization, which creates motivation (Dogra, A.,
2012). Furthermore, in conjunction with these ideas, a sense of partnership and loyalty begin to
develop between subordinates and superiors. The responses to this are typically seen in greater
responsibility being given to the subordinate.
Reflection on DFS Communication
At the start of my placement, I was anxious, and scared all at the same time. I had never worked with
youth before, or had a background in it. I was essentially thrown right in, and now I realize that is the
only way to become acquainted with this type of work. Early on open communication allowed me to
ask questions, and gain perspective on things I was unaware of. Before long I was communicating
ideas and concerns to superiors formally, and informally. It did not take long for increased roles and
responsibilities within the program and organization.
There was one scenario where as a youth worker I was able to provide assistance to an individual who
was threatening his own life.

Raging Bull Themes
Martin Scorsese s Raging Bull is a movie based on the real life story of a headstrong middleweight
boxer as he strives to become a champion. His name is Jake LaMotta (Robert De Niro), a world
renowned boxer in the 1940s. Themes of violence, jealousy, and insecurity carry the film. LaMotta is
written off as a physically and verbally abusive man, who seems limited only to the brutal emotions of
wrath, anger, and envy. His life passes through sequential phases of punishment, negotiation, and self
disintegration, due to his copious amounts of inner demons. Raging Bull tells the story of an unlovable
washout who manipulates the odds stacked exceedingly in his favor, to destroy himself. LaMotta finds
that his own malice, cruelty, lack of humanity, incoherent rage, and inner demons can best be
expressed or exorcised inside of the boxing ring. Boxing is the medium used to forward the story, but
this is not a boxing film. Boxing takes the back seat. Instead, this film is the ultimate character study.

This is an argument I can perceive gaining no support. If anything, not showing LaMotta s childhood
or experiences only serves tribute to the actuality that he has been and always will be what he is. At no
point do we ever concern ourselves about what made Jake LaMotta who he is. Instead, the movie is
about what it means to live life in the way he does. This moving realism is especially established in
the opening and closing scenes. It is in these scenes that we witness a much older, much more beaten
down Jake who is balding and overweight, who is currently making living managing a nightclub and
even emceeing at a strip

The New England s New World
Essay 1
In order to practice religious freedoms, Puritans fled from England to the New World. The New World
represented potential and freedoms that were unattainable in England. The New England settlers
overcame adversities and created challenges that would go on to change the course of history. When
they first arrived, their inexperience was shown through the death of nearly half their colony in the
first year. The introduction of the Wampanoag tribe to the New England colony was such a crucial
component to their survival and a primary reason they were able to sustain and even increase their
population. The New England colony proved to be successful in establishing a necessary relationship
with the Wampanoag, thriving through their protestant work ethic, and ultimately creating a stable
settlement; however, they failed when it came to maintaining that stable relationship with the
Wampanoag, their lack of experience in the New World, and the hypocritical tendencies of their
actions.
When the Pilgrims first arrived, they were not hesitant about claiming land and getting right to work.
Their protestant work ethic ensured that they worked hard because there was a high moral obligation

Critical Animal Studies, Thinking About Animals
In the spring of 2011, students, professors, and community members met at Brock University in St.
Catharines, Ontario for the 10th Annual North American Conference for Critical Animal Studies
(CAS). The conference, Thinking About Animals, was co hosted between the Institute for Critical
Animal Studies (ICAS) and Brock s Department of Sociology. Conference participants covered a wide
array of topics through panels and presentations that discussed the links between human and animal
oppression/liberation, gender and meat consumption, postcolonial studies, animal liberation theory,
abolitionist history, social attitudes and prejudice, veganism, and activist repression. There were also
those which focused entirely on vivisection, farmed animals, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Within this conference space and CAS as a whole, I had finally found a home for my interests in the
decolonial politics of transnational and postcolonial feminism, politics of race and culture, and
narratives about animals agency and resistance. My presentation, A Transnational Feminist Critique of
the U.S. Slaughterhouse System, discussed how both the animals killed in slaughterhouses and the
undocumented workers employed there are exploited by animal agribusiness and relegated to the
margins of society. Inspired by Sara Ahmed s concept of the stranger, a paradoxical figure who is
perceived as strange due to their race and otherness, I argued that human and nonhuman others are
perceived as unlawful intruders due to both racism and speciesism. Thus, they are expelled from the
white, human, and civilized community to maintain social hierarchies and private property. The
presentation included a slide of a cow escaping from a slaughterhouse into an urban neighborhood.
Showing the complexity of human animal encounters, the cow, who was later named Molly, was both
removed as an unlawful intruder from the community into which she fled, but also invoked public
affection (a ballad honoring her can be found on youtube). A decolonial method of studying animal
resistance attempts to read documents from the perspective of nonhuman animals such as Molly and
recognizes the centrality of capitalist globalization and white human supremacy in oppressive social

How Did Operation Barbarossa Invade Russia
1941: Operation Barbarossa
Russia tried to avoid war with Germany at the start of World War II, but this changed on June 22,
1941. Operation Barbarossa joined Russia into the World War II. This was the largest German military
attack, and unfortunately for the Russians, a very well planned operation. Operation Barbarossa s
name originated from the Holy Roman emperor, Fredrick Barbarossa, who set out to conquer the Holy
Land. This name was completely appropriate since the goal of Operation Barbarossa was to capture
the capitol of Russia, Moscow. Operation Barbarossa was an attack by the Germans to join Russia into
the war with Germany.
The plan of Operation Barbarossa started in July of 1940. Hitler decided he wanted to make an attack
on Russia. He saw a threat to his oil supply in Romania who was one of Germany s allies. Hitler
signed the first order of Barbarossa on December 18, 1940. Germany was breaking a non aggression
pact with Russia on August 23, 1939 with this operation. Although, it wasn t just Germany who was
paranoid; Russia was also suspicious of Germany. Germany s bold idea of attacking Russia wasn t just
to take over Russian territory, but destroy the Red Army (Soviet army) with large battles and
enormous amounts of demolition.
After much strategy and months of preparation, Germany invaded Russia on June 22, 1941. Germany
was well prepared with three separate army division in the North, South, and Central areas of Russia s
eastern border. Germany had about three

Positive And Negative Effects Of Technology On Learning...
Outcome
How does technology effect the way our generation learns and behaves?
Technology is, by definition The application of scientific knowledge for practical purposes, especially
in industry. We use technology accomplish various tasks in our daily lives, in brief; we can describe
technology as products, processes or organizations. We use technology to extend our abilities, and that
makes people as the most important part of any technological system.
(Use of Technology, 2017) This report identifies how technology effects sleep, the prices and costs of
technology, the positive and negative effects technology has on younger people such as bullying or
learning more at school, the difference between past generations and their use of technology and how/
if technology effects the brain and students learning and behaviour such as memory and attention
spans. A variety of sources including surveys and internet reports/ sites were used to gather
information to be used within this report.
A common statement typically heard is don t go on your phone at night you won t be able to sleep and
as we all know sleep is a really important part of our health. The reason being on our phones or any
other form of device at night prevents us from sleeping is due to the bright colours and screen those
then trick our brains into thinking it is still daylight so we don t feel as tired. (Psychology Today,
2017) However, with little to no sleep can have a serious effect on not only our mood and

National Park Service History
In the words of the iconic Ron Swanson, from the hit show series Parks and Recreation, the national
parks service is probably the only branch of government worth a damn. All thanks to the work of
several individuals, backed by an entire government, this national treasure will soon celebrate its one
hundredth birthday. The idea of the National Parks Service was first conceptualized in 1872 when
Congress established what is now Yellowstone National Park as a public park or pleasuring ground for
the benefit and enjoyment of the people. under the Act of March 1, 1872. The notion began years
before with some of the first European settlers that were captivated by the beauty and worked to
protect it. Since then, the system has grown to include natural, historic, and recreation areas in every
region. However, it wasn t until August 25, 1916 that the parks service was made official with the
National Park Service Organic Act where it was defined as an agency under the United States
Department of Interior. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Senator Felix Grundy Of Kentucky
Senator Felix Grundy of Kentucky urged for war in his appeal to the Speaker in 1811 because he
believed that the British were infringing on the maritime rights of Americans, suddenly and without
reason. He believed it was a violation of personal liberty that the government should not stand for. On
the opposition, Senator John Randolph of Virginia opposed the war and he did not believe Grundy s
appeal. In his appeal to the Speaker in 1811, he said that the war was not for maritime rights, but for
greed. He believed those in favor of the war saw land they could win from the war and wanted to
claim it as their own. He states in his speech that he did not hear a call for rights, but a chant for
Canadian lands. In the chance that I had been a part of the decision of going to war with Britain, I
would have supported the war. Although nobody doubted British actions against American shipping as
crimes, the motives of the War Hawks were continually questioned. The War Hawks are a group of
young congressmen that were the new generation of political leaders. They are ardent nationalists that
called for war with Britain. They spoke of defending honor against British insults and in support of the
annexation of Canada and the conquest of Florida, which is owned by the British ally, Spain (Foner
242). Despite their concentration on practical goals, like the expansion of America, these young men
upheld principles of free trade and wanted to liberate the United States from European

Ethical Issues of a Doctor s Office
McCall Ethics Case Study Jerry is Dr. Williams s office assistant. He has received professional
training as both a medical assistant and an LPN. He is handling all the phone calls while the
receptionist is at lunch. A patient calls and says he must have a prescription refill for Valium and that
the provider, a friend, calls in the medication prior to any flights. This type of request happens often
and in slightly different scenarios, but the outcome should remain the same to avoid ethical and legal
issues. This paper will review the case study to help resolve the problem at hand, refilling a
prescription without provider authorization. Qualified Medical Training Understanding the definitions
of a licensed practical nurse, LPN, and a medical assistant, MA is the first step to making a factual
conclusion for this case study. Support staff to the provider cannot make decisions about medication
refills for patients without a direct order from the provider. This action is outside the scope of practice
for an LPN or MA. Licensed Practical Nurse An LPN is a role in support of the nurse or RN, a
registered Nurse usually in a skilled nursing setting such as a hospital or long term care facility. As
defined by the National Federation of Licensed Practical Nurses, NFLPN, an LPN means the
performance for compensation of authorized acts of nursing which utilize specialized knowledge and
skills and which meet the health needs of people in a variety of settings under the direction

products and sales of third party products in a plethora of categories that caters to the B2B and B2C
sales environments. Unlike Amazon, Barnesandnoble.com, Inc. (Barnes Noble) did not begin as an
online e commerce company. The inception of Barnes Noble began in 1986 and focused on the retail
environment in content, digital media and educational products (reuters.com, n.d) with its principal

the preaching context? The preaching context is an urban congregation, comprising of more than 500
active congregants. The congregation has great understanding of how they are called to be One as the
Body of Christ. This is because their congregation comprises people of diverse identities. They have
single parents attending the church as well as children without their parents. They are invested in the
Black Lives Matter as well as the ESL program, which speaks to how attentive they are about the
ethnicities worshipping with them. It is very likely that the LGBTQ community is pushed into margins

Analysis Of Bittorrent, A Nightmare For Copyright...
BitTorrent, a nightmare for copyright enforcement agencies Using BitTorrent has become a popular
and effective way of downloading files over the internet. BitTorrent is a peer to peer file sharing (P2P)
internet protocol that allows files to be distributed via an internet connection. The use of BitTorrent
itself is a perfectly legal and legitimate process of downloading certain files. For example, if someone
wanted to obtain a large free to use file like a Linux distribution, BitTorrent provides a fast and
effective means to download the file legally. Another legal use of BitTorrent would be companies like
Blizzard who use custom BitTorrent clients to distribute and update their games to avoid overloading
their servers. The main ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A swarm is a group of computers that all have the desired torrent file available for downloading.
Computers enter the swarm by accessing a torrent file (file extension is generally .torrent) via a torrent
client such as BitTorrent, uTorrent, Vuze, Transmission, or many others. Trackers are located inside
torrent files that keep track of connected computers. The tracker communicates with the other
computers in the swarm and shares their corresponding IP addresses with everyone in the swarm so
the computers can connect to one another. The tracker does not handle any of the data being
transmitted, it merely provides a medium for the computers to keep track of which computers are in
the swarm. In other words, when an individual wants to download a file, first they download a torrent
file and access it via a client that contains a tracker allowing them to download the file from not one
but many people at one time. The actual file being transferred is not transferred as one large file, but is
broken down into many pieces when it is downloaded. After a computer has downloaded a piece of
the file, they are then able to upload that piece to others in the swarm. Thus, computers in the swarm
are downloading and uploading to and from each other simultaneously. Once the computer has all the
pieces of the file, the client then assembles the pieces so the file is operable. BitTorrent clients can

What Is The Relationship Between The Protestant Ethic And...
In Max Weber s book The Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism, examines the relationship
between the ethics of ascetic Protestantism and the emergence of the spirit of modern capitalism.
Weber discusses that the religious ideas of groups such as the Calvinists played a role in creating the
capitalistic spirit. In Chapter two, Weber targets the concept of capitalism, which tends to assume or
argue that its existence is inevitable, that it is fundamental to human nature, or reflects an important
step in a universal series of stages. Weber s account brings such claims into question. Corresponding
to Weber, the spirit necessary for successful capitalistic activities is not natural. Striving for profit is
not the only way to approach economic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Weber draws links between the rise of Calvinism and modern capitalism. Weber, however, is more
cautious overall than Marx in his willingness to make predictions for the future. Overall, while there
are differences between these two theorists, they both make strong arguments for the link between
economics, culture, and ideology. They dispel the notion that society is the creation of individuals who
are consciously and freely making choices, and show how modes of economic production are both
producers and products of cultural and social

Book value is actually somewhat skeptically viewed in this day and age, since most companies have
latitude in valuing their inventory, as well as inflation or deflation of real estate depending on what tax
consequences the company is trying to avoid. However, with financial companies like banks,
consumer loan concerns, brokerages and credit card companies, the book value is extremely relevant.
For instance, in the banking industry, takeovers are often priced based on book value, with banks or
savings loans being taken over at multiples of between 1.7 to 2.0 times book value. Another use of
shareholder s equity is to determine return on equity , or ROE. Return on equity is a measure of how
much in earnings a company generates in four quarters compared to its shareholder s equity. It is
measured as a percentage. For instance, if XYZ Corp. made a million dollars in the past year and has a
shareholder s equity of ten million, then the ROE is 10%. Some use ROE as a screen to find
companies that can generate large profits with little in the way of capital investment. Coca Cola, for
instance, does not require constant spending to upgrade equipment the syrup making process does not
regularly move ahead by technological leaps and bounds. In fact, high ROE companies are so
attractive to some investors that they will take the ROE and average it with the expected earnings
growth in order to figure out a fair multiple. This is why a

Hilton ITT Case Study Essay
1. Why might Bollenbach have opened his bidding for ITT at $55 per share? What was his likely
strategy?
The $55 value is on the lower range of the analyst eztimates, with a best guess estimate of $67.94.
Since the value of the stock had been below $45 for 4 months, the offer of 55 dollars represented a
29% premium to investors. Bollenbach knew that management would be resistant of any attempt to be
acquired, regardless of price, because of failed previous attempts to negotiate a friendly merger at year
end 1996. The 55 dollar benchmark created an expectation for ITT management to achieve that level,
or higher and the premium is enough to demonstrate to investors it is a real offer. Their support will be
key as they will have a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Bollenbach knew that the next steps would be critical or the deal to go through. As such it was
necessary to first research the investors and arbiters to have better negotiation tactics when the time
comes. The resistant board of directors had not changed in the mean time and would likely resist any
offer, including the unlikely event of another contender entering bidding. If the price of the stock fell
below the $55 range, or the Board of Directors changed Bollenback would likely aggressively
negotiate with shareholders to close the deal as quickly as possible.
3. ITT s value has changed a lot over the recent events. Prior to any offer when ITT s stock was
trading at 43 dollars, the stand alone value of its equity was 16.4 billion dollars. With the 55 dollar
offer to ITT, the company s value went up to approximately 21 billion. After the offer, the stock was
trading at $63.50, which gave the total equity a value of 24.2 billion dollars. With the proposed
trivesture proposal, the company would lose synergistic value as three separate companies, compared
to one large company. Examples of these include a number of overhead costs which gain economies of
scale. In addition, ITT likely has synergistic revenues coming from the fact that it operates all three
business segments. Analyst estimates indicate that the present value of the synergies whichh ITT
stands to loose with the proposed trivesture have a NPV between $900 and

  • 2. Catapult Research Paper During the Middle Ages, many weapons were created to help in the winning battles. There was a weapon was the siege engine called a catapult. The term catapult came from the Greek word katapultos . A catapult was a large machine on wheels with a basket attached to a long wooden arm and a power source for hurling projectiles on the other. The first catapult however was invented around 400 BC in Greek town Syracuse. It was not the type seen so many times at our own wars in today s Society for Creative Anachronism. The first catapult closely resembled a crossbow. It was called the Gastraphete, and worked similar to a crossbow. The Gastraphete had to be pointed at the ground and the operator had to use great force to set the weapon to fire. At its most basic understanding, a gravity catapult is simply a lever that uses centrifugal force to its advantage. Think of it as a modified seesaw. When two people are on the seesaw and both are of close weight, the seesaw balances itself. If another person came up and jumped on one end of the seesaw with one of the people, the single person on the opposite end is likely to become airborne. Like the seesaw, a gravity powered catapult is also pivoted in the middle. A counter weight was built onto one end of the catapult and a basket or sling on the other. The projectile end was pulled down forcing the counterweighted end to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Such is that of the universal theme of love. This theme can be developed throughout a poem through an authors use of form and content. She Walks in Beauty, by George Gordon, Lord Byron, is a poem that contains an intriguing form with captivating content. Lord Byron, a nineteenth century poet, writes this poem through the use of similes and metaphors to describe a beautiful woman. His patterns and rhyme scheme enthrall the reader into the poem. The beautiful shades and rays of the womans complexion make her a nameless grace (2, 2). This conveys the idea that her inner beauty is reflected in her outer beauty in the sense that she is pure and innocent on the inside so she radiates that beauty on the outside. This stanza reveals her serene thoughts: Where thoughts serenely sweet express, How pure, how dear their dwelling place. The dwelling place is her pure mind. This maiden can be called an innocent love because Lord Byron s use of words propose that she may have never been in love, so she does not know about it. The last stanza in this poem considers the woman s physical description and moral character. Her so soft [and] so calm flow radiates peace and goodness. This woman may remind the reader of an angel when thinking of this description. The last line, a heart whose love is innocent, reflects that the woman is truly pure and has a good heart. This line leave the reader feeling very peaceful knowing that this maiden is pure and true in her innocence. La Belle Dame sans Merci takes on a different view of the theme of love. It is necessary to know about the variation of effects of hypoxia if any on the persons depending on their age and sex. As the effects of hypoxia may or may not present for a long time, it is necessary to conduct tests on the pilots regarding hypoxia for each flight or in some airlines, they test pilots for the effects of hypoxia before each flight (Sharma L: 2007) so that necessary medication could be given. However, according to Good W.A (1991, 104) the performance of the pilots might be degraded with both prescribed and over the counter medications as well as by the medical conditions for which they are taken (Good W.A; 1991, 104). Normally, the medicines of hypoxia are sedative, tranquilizer or antihistamine. These medicines make a pilot much more susceptible to hypoxia (Good W.A; 1991, 104) and hence it is necessary for the pilots to minimize the use of over the counter medicines. In addition to the above precautions alcohol can impair the pilot even many hours after its consumption and digestion due to hangover. I have to say that every single one of the Alex Rider books give me a mind blowing snensation. I then go on to idolize Alex Rider because he everything a teenage boy would want to have acheived. Since Alex is fourteen years of age, the most youthful spy agent to have served Britain, the United States and Australia, the book lands into the teenage genre which is why many young adult boys will love to read about a 14 year old boy conquering bad guys and therefore benefiting the world. Which is a boyhood dream. So far Snakehead has exceded my excpectations, as well as underachieved in some areas, so i still have mixed emotions about the book. Which will probably change as i eventually read on. The Alex Rider book has been an underachiever because it has been unrealistic. Even though its a 14 year old boy as a spy, there should be some mild form of reality which will balance the book in between the real and fantasy world. The over achieveing part was how he has managed to connect the previous book to the current one im reading now, checking every box and explaining it wih beautiful and precise writing, the prologue had no flaws and it was just like watching another episode of a seires. • 13. Finding Accurate Causal Affects Of A National Supported Work Paul Doxsee Econ 104 Finding Accurate Causal Affects Abstract An analysis was performed to see if the effect of a National Supported Work (NSW) Demonstration study was effective in increasing the earnings of a group of individuals. The analysis showed that, on average, those treated earned roughly $800 more than their counterparts three years later. Because of the randomization method used when selecting the participants, we can be confident that this estimate is causal. This randomization removes all biases from omitted variables as well as any selection bias, because the groups were systematically alike as shown in the analysis. Another analysis was performed using data from both the NSW study as well as the Panel Study of Income Dynamics (PSID). This analysis showed that using non experimental data creates biased results because the two groups are not comparable. Furthermore, even the use of regressions in an attempt to correct this bias will not be successful and will still not result in causal results. Introduction The National Supported Work (NSW) Demonstration study was an experiment that took individuals with long term employment problems and randomly assigned them to either receive or not receive a job training program. The goal of this program was to show that these job training programs work, in that they help people get better, higher paying jobs. The results of the study supported that. • 17. Legalizing Same-Sex Marriages The topic of legalizing same sex marriages brings up heated debates on legal, religious, moral, and philosophical grounds. In researching material for this paper this writer could not help but read reports that indicate that the country is fairly well divided on this issue. The debate can go round and around and the answer to the question of legalizing same sex marriages is not as easy as it may seem. There are solid rebuttals to any supposition one makes on the issue, making the debate a lot more interesting than one might believe. In general there are several philosophical arguments against same sex marriage: The first claims that marriage is an innately reproductive union of two people and that same sex marriages innately lack the potential for any type of reproduction, therefore it is metaphysically and biologically impossible for homosexuals to become married to one another. Thus, same sex marriages should not occur. Critics of this line of reasoning would state that there is no one who would support the notion of not allowing infertile heterosexual couples or fertile heterosexual couples who do not plan to have children the right to marry one another. Thus, this argument is not valid as an explanation of why same sex marriages should not be allowed. However, the rebuttal to this counter argument would be that the sexual intercourse that takes place between either infertile heterosexual couples or heterosexual couples not desiring children is reproductive in kind. ... The ability to effectively communicate allows facilitation of relationships between superiors and subordinates; essentially this creates higher job satisfaction (Dogra, A., 2012). Open communication where employees have opportunity to voice their ideas and concerns, corelates to employees feeling a sense of value within the organization, which creates motivation (Dogra, A., 2012). Furthermore, in conjunction with these ideas, a sense of partnership and loyalty begin to develop between subordinates and superiors. The responses to this are typically seen in greater responsibility being given to the subordinate. LaMotta is written off as a physically and verbally abusive man, who seems limited only to the brutal emotions of wrath, anger, and envy. The New England colony proved to be successful in establishing a necessary relationship with the Wampanoag, thriving through their protestant work ethic, and ultimately creating a stable settlement; however, they failed when it came to maintaining that stable relationship with the Wampanoag, their lack of experience in the New World, and the hypocritical tendencies of their actions. When the Pilgrims first arrived, they were not hesitant about claiming land and getting right to work. Their protestant work ethic ensured that they worked hard because there was a high moral obligation to fulfill ones duty in worldly affairs. Worldly success is a sign of God s favor, so when they landed upon an abandoned Indian village they took it as a sign from God that they were on the right path and were being rewarded. They established communities of family farmers, which proved to be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Critical Animal Studies, Thinking About Animals In the spring of 2011, students, professors, and community members met at Brock University in St. Catharines, Ontario for the 10th Annual North American Conference for Critical Animal Studies (CAS). The conference, Thinking About Animals, was co hosted between the Institute for Critical Animal Studies (ICAS) and Brock s Department of Sociology. Conference participants covered a wide array of topics through panels and presentations that discussed the links between human and animal oppression/liberation, gender and meat consumption, postcolonial studies, animal liberation theory, abolitionist history, social attitudes and prejudice, veganism, and activist repression. There were also those which focused entirely on vivisection, farmed animals, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Within this conference space and CAS as a whole, I had finally found a home for my interests in the decolonial politics of transnational and postcolonial feminism, politics of race and culture, and narratives about animals agency and resistance. My presentation, A Transnational Feminist Critique of the U.S. Slaughterhouse System, discussed how both the animals killed in slaughterhouses and the undocumented workers employed there are exploited by animal agribusiness and relegated to the margins of society. Inspired by Sara Ahmed s concept of the stranger, a paradoxical figure who is perceived as strange due to their race and otherness, I argued that human and nonhuman others are perceived as unlawful intruders due to both racism and speciesism. Thus, they are expelled from the white, human, and civilized community to maintain social hierarchies and private property. The presentation included a slide of a cow escaping from a slaughterhouse into an urban neighborhood. Showing the complexity of human animal encounters, the cow, who was later named Molly, was both removed as an unlawful intruder from the community into which she fled, but also invoked public affection (a ballad honoring her can be found on youtube). A decolonial method of studying animal resistance attempts to read documents from the perspective of nonhuman animals such as Molly and recognizes the centrality of capitalist globalization and white human supremacy in oppressive social ... • 23. How Did Operation Barbarossa Invade Russia 1941: Operation Barbarossa Russia tried to avoid war with Germany at the start of World War II, but this changed on June 22, 1941. Operation Barbarossa joined Russia into the World War II. This was the largest German military attack, and unfortunately for the Russians, a very well planned operation. Operation Barbarossa s name originated from the Holy Roman emperor, Fredrick Barbarossa, who set out to conquer the Holy Land. This name was completely appropriate since the goal of Operation Barbarossa was to capture the capitol of Russia, Moscow. Operation Barbarossa was an attack by the Germans to join Russia into the war with Germany. The plan of Operation Barbarossa started in July of 1940. Hitler decided he wanted to make an attack on Russia. He saw a threat to his oil supply in Romania who was one of Germany s allies. Hitler signed the first order of Barbarossa on December 18, 1940. Germany was breaking a non aggression pact with Russia on August 23, 1939 with this operation. Although, it wasn t just Germany who was paranoid; Russia was also suspicious of Germany. Germany s bold idea of attacking Russia wasn t just to take over Russian territory, but destroy the Red Army (Soviet army) with large battles and enormous amounts of demolition. After much strategy and months of preparation, Germany invaded Russia on June 22, 1941. Germany was well prepared with three separate army division in the North, South, and Central areas of Russia s eastern border. Germany had about three ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

National Park Service History In the words of the iconic Ron Swanson, from the hit show series Parks and Recreation, the national parks service is probably the only branch of government worth a damn. All thanks to the work of several individuals, backed by an entire government, this national treasure will soon celebrate its one hundredth birthday. The idea of the National Parks Service was first conceptualized in 1872 when Congress established what is now Yellowstone National Park as a public park or pleasuring ground for the benefit and enjoyment of the people. under the Act of March 1, 1872. The notion began years before with some of the first European settlers that were captivated by the beauty and worked to protect it. Since then, the system has grown to include natural, historic, and recreation areas in every region. Senator Felix Grundy Of Kentucky Senator Felix Grundy of Kentucky urged for war in his appeal to the Speaker in 1811 because he believed that the British were infringing on the maritime rights of Americans, suddenly and without reason. He believed it was a violation of personal liberty that the government should not stand for. On the opposition, Senator John Randolph of Virginia opposed the war and he did not believe Grundy s appeal. In his appeal to the Speaker in 1811, he said that the war was not for maritime rights, but for greed. He believed those in favor of the war saw land they could win from the war and wanted to claim it as their own. He states in his speech that he did not hear a call for rights, but a chant for Canadian lands. In the chance that I had been a part of the decision of going to war with Britain, I would have supported the war. Although nobody doubted British actions against American shipping as crimes, the motives of the War Hawks were continually questioned. The War Hawks are a group of young congressmen that were the new generation of political leaders. They are ardent nationalists that called for war with Britain. They spoke of defending honor against British insults and in support of the annexation of Canada and the conquest of Florida, which is owned by the British ally, Spain (Foner 242). Despite their concentration on practical goals, like the expansion of America, these young men upheld principles of free trade and wanted to liberate the United States from European ... He is handling all the phone calls while the receptionist is at lunch. A patient calls and says he must have a prescription refill for Valium and that the provider, a friend, calls in the medication prior to any flights. BitTorrent, a nightmare for copyright enforcement agencies Using BitTorrent has become a popular and effective way of downloading files over the internet. BitTorrent is a peer to peer file sharing (P2P) internet protocol that allows files to be distributed via an internet connection. The use of BitTorrent itself is a perfectly legal and legitimate process of downloading certain files. For example, if someone wanted to obtain a large free to use file like a Linux distribution, BitTorrent provides a fast and effective means to download the file legally. Computers enter the swarm by accessing a torrent file (file extension is generally .torrent) via a torrent client such as BitTorrent, uTorrent, Vuze, Transmission, or many others. Trackers are located inside torrent files that keep track of connected computers. The tracker communicates with the other computers in the swarm and shares their corresponding IP addresses with everyone in the swarm so the computers can connect to one another. The tracker does not handle any of the data being transmitted, it merely provides a medium for the computers to keep track of which computers are in the swarm. In other words, when an individual wants to download a file, first they download a torrent file and access it via a client that contains a tracker allowing them to download the file from not one but many people at one time. The actual file being transferred is not transferred as one large file, but is broken down into many pieces when it is downloaded. After a computer has downloaded a piece of the file, they are then able to upload that piece to others in the swarm. Thus, computers in the swarm are downloading and uploading to and from each other simultaneously. Once the computer has all the pieces of the file, the client then assembles the pieces so the file is operable. BitTorrent clients can also utilize ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

What are the ratios used by analysts to determine whether a stock is undervalued or overvalued? How valid is the discounted present value approach? How can one value a company as a going concern, and how does this change in the context of a potential acquisition, or when the company faces financial stress? Book value is actually somewhat skeptically viewed in this day and age, since most companies have latitude in valuing their inventory, as well as inflation or deflation of real estate depending on what tax consequences the company is trying to avoid. However, with financial companies like banks, consumer loan concerns, brokerages and credit card companies, the book value is extremely relevant. For instance, in the banking industry, takeovers are often priced based on book value, with banks or savings loans being taken over at multiples of between 1.7 to 2.0 times book value. Another use of shareholder s equity is to determine return on equity , or ROE. Return on equity is a measure of how much in earnings a company generates in four quarters compared to its shareholder s equity. It is measured as a percentage. For instance, if XYZ Corp. made a million dollars in the past year and has a shareholder s equity of ten million, then the ROE is 10%. Some use ROE as a screen to find companies that can generate large profits with little in the way of capital investment. Coca Cola, for instance, does not require constant spending to upgrade equipment the syrup making process does not regularly move ahead by technological leaps and bounds. In fact, high ROE companies are so attractive to some investors that they will take the ROE and average it with the expected earnings growth in order to figure out a fair multiple. This is why a ... Since the value of the stock had been below $45 for 4 months, the offer of 55 dollars represented a 29% premium to investors.
