Meals Tax For Public Schools
Meals Tax On November 8th, voters will be asked to vote for or against the Meals Tax. This meals tax
would be imposed on prepared foods and restaurant meals. The Meals Tax was proposed by Fairfax
County. The reason for this Meals Tax is to fund public schools and county services. The seventy
percent will go to Fairfax County Public Schools. Also, the thirty percent will go towards capital
improvements, county services and property tax relief. It would impose a four percent tax on top of
the existing six percent sales tax. The Meals Tax will support Fairfax County children and help protect
the quality of life for all. The Meals Tax would predictably harm more of low middle class families. In
these tough economic times, this tax will be no help and it will hurt people. There are many questions
to the Meals Tax. What is Meals Tax? The definition of this tax is taxes incurred in addition to a state s
sales tax on the purchase of prepared foods that are eaten in restaurant or to go. The media said that
Meals Tax would be up to four percent. The actual range is various from between 0.5 percent to as
high as 5.5 percent. There are other cities that charge a tax. Cities like Miami, Virginia Beach, Dever,
Milwaukee, Boston, and Washington D.C. Chicago has high combined tax of ten point seventy five
percent. There are lot of concerns to this issue. Why is the government imposing this tax and
proposing to the community? Why are people against this tax? People are against it

How Does Brutus Use Logos In Killing Caesar
Brutus use of logos in his funeral speech was ineffective because they were logical fallacies and were
not supported by solid facts. Brutus thought that Caesar s nature would change after he obtained more
power and authority, and that keeping Caesar around would be very catastrophic, since he could turn
his back against his people any time. In Brutus funeral speech, he tried to convince the Plebeians that
Caesar was too ambitious, was a threat to the Roman Republic, and will cause the Plebeians to
become suppressed and enslaved. As Brutus said to the Plebeians, Had you rather Caesar were living
and die all slaves, than that Caesar dead, to live all free men (III.ii.24 26)? In this quote, Brutus
justified killing Caesar by saying that if

Symbolism In Raskolnikov s Nightmare
He had not an instant more to lose. He pulled the axe out completely, swung it with both arms,
scarcely conscious of himself, and almost without effort, almost mechanically, brought the blunt side
down on her head... Then with all his strength he dealt her another and another blow with the blunt
side, and on the same spot (Dostoyevsky 77). Relating the following passage to previous events in the
book, a symbolic connection can be made between the murder to Raskolnikov s nightmare (55 59).
Whenever Raskolnikov is out on a walk, he thinks of disturbing circumstances, only to come across
something beautiful in his eyes. Horses are generally described to be both majestic and beautiful,
which would apply to Raskolnikov s attraction towards them. Horses are also often used to symbolize
freedom and strength, which is what he vaguely hopes for. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Now, you would think that Raskolnikov would be viewed as the dying mare, due to realizing his need
to be free of debt. However, for this analysis, I believe the mare actually represents Alyona. Alyona
was the old woman who worked as a pawnbroker, but she was extremely untrusting and unliked by the
community (as displayed whenever Raskolnikov was in the bar). During a certain bar visit,
Raskolnikov overhears a conversation that basically brings up murder, as the old woman served no
real purpose to society and would make things better if she were to disappear. Raskolnikov proceeds
to construct a plan of action to kill the old woman with an

What Is Kurt Lewin s Field Theory And Process Driven Change
Turnaround and Transformation
Duke University Children s Hospital was facing a financial crisis in 1996 that required turnaround and
transformation in order for the hospital to survive (Spector, 2013). On top of the financial crisis,
caused by decreased Medicaid allowances and an increase in capitated reimbursement patients, patient
and staff satisfaction had reached an all time low (Spector, 2013). The hospital s chief medical
director, Jon Meliones, understood that the hospital could only do so much to control their financial
outcomes and a united front would be needed to bring about effective and impactful change (Spector,
2013).
Kurt Lewin s Field Theory Process Driven Change
According to Spector (2013) Lewin s field theory has three steps: 1) unfreezing; 2) Moving and; 3)
refreezing. Unfreezing and refreezing serve as bookends to the process. Unfreezing requires members
of the group to be unsatisfied with the status quo (Spector, 2013). In the case of Children s Hospital,
the financial crisis and employee moral/satisfaction were at all time lows which created the
dissatisfaction with the status quo (Spector, 2013). Once a new status quo and new patterns of
behavior have been implemented refreezing can occur (Spector, 2013). However, in order to get to
refreezing, moving needs to occur which encourages members of the group to alter their behavior
(Spector, 2013).
One way to encourage members of the group to alter their behavior, or move, is through process

Productivity Improvement in Srew Type Biomass Briquetting
In spite of very good potential for using biomass as a renewable source of energy the practice is in
very early stage and limping. There are many factors which contribute their parts in making the
process unsuccessful. The major ones are seasonality of the raw materials, shortfalls in logistics,
absence of proved manufacturing systems, lack of skilled workers and very many technical factors.
Considering technical factors for the screw type of briquetting the biomass, the life of the screw and
the mould contribute the highest percentage of hindrance to the production process and hence the
highest chance of improving the total productivity. A successful process of producing quality
briquettes is very essential in using ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To produce low ash, high Btu briquettes form coal fine and timber wastes research works were done in
the University of Kentucky. More than 70 million tons of coal fines are dumped at the abandoned site
near the Appalachian coal fields. Combining the coal fine with the wastes from nearby timber
industries briquettes were made and tested for various parameters. It was concluded that the briquettes
were of premium quality and that offers near term practical solutions to generate green energy
utilizing existing equipments [1]. There are works going on in designing energy management methods
in biomass applications, as at least 15% of energy is wasted in drying the biomass before using in
boilers or any other heating system. The typical moisture content of biomass varies from 50% to 63%
by weight in most of the situations including the seasons and types of biomass. A low initial moisture
level could utilize most of the energy released during combustion and it will make larger boiler
unnecessary. Utilizing exhaust gases to preheat the input biomass to a lower level of moisture can
conserve the energy significantly [3]. Though briquetting of biomass as a green fuel is a necessary
solution, the primary importance of any biomass should be for feeding animals. In Mexico the
excesses residues of corn, sugarcane, sorghum and wheat are briquetted and sent to livestock growing
regions to handle dry seasons. There were other advantages like homogeneous

Essay on Octavian Augustus
Octavian Augustus is known as the first, and one of the greatest, Roman Emperors ever. Octavian
enabled the long, peaceful time of the Pax Romana by changing Rome from a fragile, crumbling
republican government to a mighty empire. Octavian s government was strong enough to withstand
weak emperors who mismanaged the Empire as well. His changes proved to be the cornerstone of the
greatest empire the world has ever seen. The Pax Romana, or Roman Peace, was a time of great
prosperity for all people under Rome s rule. Roman citizens enjoyed the spectacles of the gladiators in
the coliseum and the comedies performed at the many theatres. The Romans are attributed with the

Octavian was favored by Caesar from an early age. In 48 Caesar had his fifteen year old great nephew
elected to the priestly college of the pontifices, and he also enrolled him in the hereditary patrician
aristocracy of Rome: Octavian joined Caesar in 46 B.C.E on campaign against Pompey in Spain.
Later, Octavian was sent to Apollonia, on the coast of Greece, to attempt to finish his education. While
in Apollonia, Octavian trained with Roman legions stationed there. Only months after arriving in
Apollonia, Octavian learned that Caesar was murdered. He also learned that he was named as the
beneficiary in Caesar s will and had been formally adopted as his son. The will thrust tremendous
power on Octavian. He was now the leader of a great army ready to follow the commands of Caesar s
heir. Octavian used this army to occupy Rome and force the Senate to make him consul. Marc Antony,
who had been consul with Caesar, was now forced to create the alliance with Lepidus, a high priest,
and Octavian. The three leaders divided the land that Rome had conquered. Antony controlled the East
and Octavian the West. Lepidus controlled Africa. The leaders led a ruthless campaign to punish
Caesar¹s assassins but soon turned on each other. Octavian first attacked Lepidus and took control of
Africa and all of Italy. Antony strained relations between Octavian and himself by divorcing Octavian
s sister, in favor of Cleopatra, Queen of Egypt. Finally, in

An independent quality assurance team defines test cases to evaluate whether the product fully or
partially satisfies the requirements outlined in the first step. Three types of testing typically take place:
unit testing of individual code modules; system testing of the integrated product; and acceptance
testing, formally conducted by or on behalf of the customer. Defects, if found, are logged and
feedback provided to the implementation team to enable correction. This is also the stage at which
product documentation, such as a user manual, is prepared, reviewed and published.
5. Maintenance
This step occurs after installation, and involves making modifications to the system or an individual
component to alter attributes or improve performance. These modifications arise either due to change
requests initiated by the customer, or defects uncovered during live use of the system. Actually, every
change made to the product during the maintenance cycle is recorded and a new product release which

Australian Voice Essay
Hi everyone! How are you today? Nice to see all you guys here. Let s me introduce myself first. My
name is Jane Kennedy. I am one of writers of the film The Castle . I m sure that everyone has watched
The Castle , right? I m invited to be here and tell you about this movie as well as how I and my team
have built up and shown the ideas about the voice of Australians through it. As you know, everyone
including Australians have their own way of understanding and an opinion of the world and people in
it. That s called their voice . However, the way Australians view and understand the world is unique.
Let s come back to The Castle , this is a story about the Kerrigan family who together stand up to fight

It gives them love and they love it too. The next thing I want to say which explores Australians unique
ways of thinking is their belief in what is right or wrong no matter who is involved. Because the house
means everything to Australians people, they will do everything they can to protect it. My fellow
worker also director of The Castle , Rob Sitch has cleverly and effectively used many film techniques
to express this idea. Do you remember when Darryl and Dennis stand in the Federal court? There is a
big contrast between the underdog and the authorities. The close up and the medium shots were taken
to show his confidence in the facial expression and body language. On the other hand, the low angel
camera shot up to the judge emphasis the power of the law. These both reveal Darryl s determination
of battling even when he knows that he is fighting against the government. By these techniques, it s
clear to see that no matter how hard the situation is, no matter how limited individuals ability is,
Australians people will still be brave to stand up, fight for their right and protect their family.
And, last but not least, the very important thing I have to tell you is Australians willingness to help and
fight for underdogs. Later in the movie, Hammil comes to Darryl and asks to help him to keep the
house. In the scene when they went to the High Court, the costume status has been

his camp and tried to understand what the other soldiers was thinking about. He explains that he also
afraid to show the other soldiers his concern about the war. He then thinks about two theories about
his own camp as a whole. His first theory is that he believes that all the soldiers in his camps are
heroes. However, at some times, he ignored the positive theories he had about them and saw them
instead as a wandered someone who is afraid to do something. His emotions about them made him

The Transition Through Middle School And High School
The future holds an uncertain thing in life and with it come many responsibilities. I realized how
things change so often happens as quickly and as unexpectedly as it does. The transition through
middle school and high school has changed me thoroughly. I ve learned that high school has made me
smarter for who to trust and judge people more than I usually do. High school gave me more options,
viewpoints, and ideas. I mature in almost every way, and learn more about myself for what I m good
at. There will be hard times but eventually get through them.
It started when I was a freshman in high school. It was a 10 minute walk from my house. I got out of

During my sophomore year, my grades drop. It was a disaster. I felt frustrated and stressed. I had to
study like I have never studied before. I have never improved ever since; in fact I did worst during my
junior year. I didn t care about the bad scores I got on my quizzes/tests. Overall, my worst gpa was

better from them. Getting lectured by my parents was the one thing I hated about. They would always
say, Do well in school or else you can t graduate. Be like your sister, who studies hard. That s when I
started talking back at them; I said, Don t tell me what to do. I will graduate, watch me. I ve also
encountered number of situations where I was forced by my parents to undertake courses that I was
never interested in.
My weaknesses are standardized testing. I do not perform well on tests. I can be smart and understand

The Beatitudes Is Not Only A Blessing
The Beatitudes may appear as if they are merely a simple arrangement of blessings, but in reality they
are full of meaning and beyond any ordinary passage in the Bible. Every line in the Beatitudes is not
only a blessing, but a call for action directed towards the people of Israel. The passage seems to focus
on Jesus as he speaks to his disciples and the crowd listening about how they could achieve the
righteousness that will create the foundation of Heaven. He is not simply encouraging people to live
morally and repent so that they will be welcome into the Kingdom of God. He is urging them to learn
how to live happily and spread their generosity to others so that they will feel more connected to God.
Jesus seems to direct most of the Beatitudes towards his disciples, who represent a new and reborn
Israel that harbors no hesitation to put their faith in God, while the crowd that listens intently to Jesus
s words are the potential that Israel has to become virtuous. The Beatitudes are the guidelines that
Israelites must follow so that they may live ethical and pure lives.
The Beatitudes are much more allegorical than literal. They are written instructions that the Israelites
are required to follow if they wish to live wholeheartedly, rather than a way to act in order to be
accepted by God and welcomed into Heaven. For instance, the first line in the Beatitudes, Blessed are
they who mourn, for they shall be comforted (Matthew 5:4) depicts those who are grateful for Jesus

Comparing Suspense In The Sniper And Once Upon A Time
Suspense Essay
Aaron Little Holder
The Sniper and Once Upon a time give off different elements of suspense. When you read these two
stories they give off different vibes. In both stories you will see that there are both differences and
similarities.
In the story The Sniper the element of suspense starts with the setting. The story takes place during the
civil war in Ireland. The sniper is isolated and the time of day is twilight. We don t have a lot of
information about what is going on during the story. The story is being told by a third person so the
reader can only see what the person who is telling the story sees and feel. The mood that is set in the
story also adds to the suspense of the story. The images and sounds and the details shared throughout
the story lets the reader know that something bad is going to happen. Finally, the plot of the story
creates suspense. We are not aware of the background of the characters in the story. The narrator does

This creates suspense. The author then starts telling herself a bedtime story. She begins telling the
story like a fairy tale. In all fairy tales there is a moral. This creates suspense. The story is now being
told from a third person s point of view. As the story is being told, the reader can begin to see that the
families fears, suspicions and mistrust are getting out of hand. You can see that the family is doing too
much and that they are about to put themselves in a situation that is not good. The story starts off with
a perfect family in the perfect home, just like a fairy tale starts, however it ends in tragedy. The son

Player Puck Tracking System
In an article by NHL.com, Player, puck tracking coming to the World Cup , Bettman gives a statement

this may give you another reason to connect even more with the game.
I agree with Bettman s statement. I believe that even the casual hockey fan could gain interest in the
NHL with the introduction of this new tracking system. In my opinion, being able to have a great
amount of individual data from each player on the ice would gain even the most casual hockey fan

Theories Of The Common Sense
Questioning whether or not people make choices seems to be an arbitrary concept to ponder. Common
sense causes one to believe that, of course, humans make choices daily. Even now, common sense
dictates that it is a choice to read this paper or even for this paper to be written at all. However,
according to one form of early philosophy, common sense has led society astray. Each event that
occurs throughout the universe has causation such that one never acts of his or her own free will. This
theory of the absence of free will, known as hard determinism, has three main premises as its basis.
The first premise states that no event is uncaused (Kleinman 64). This appeals to humanity s
practicality; for every force, there is an equal and opposite force. One reaps what he or she sows. What
goes around, comes around. This form of logic demonstrated in the first premise satisfies society s
intrinsic desire for predictability and reason. The second premise then states that if an event is caused,
it must occur; likewise, if it must occur, no other outcome could be achieved. Thus, if every event s
outcome is predetermined through causation, no man can act against it; this tenet makes up the third
and final premise (Kleinman 64). Therefore, based upon these three premises, no man holds the power
of free will. As can be imagined, hard determinism appears to have a few holes in its validity as a
theory. A person, for instance, consciously makes choices each day, such as choices of diet

The Important Of Being Earnest By Oscar Wilde

Wilde wrote his play during the Victorian era because of the ridiculous manners that occurred during
this era. The Important of Being Earnest was a satire about Victorian society, which means Wilde was
criticizing Victorian society. During this era, the most important factor of living was your social class,

He is making fun of the extras who use excessive efforts in order to gain attention from the director.
They want to get one short line of dialogue to read in the movie. Alford wrote this story in a first
person point of view. He was actually one of the extras in the movie Godzilla . I think Alford writing
this story in a first person point of view makes him seem more sympathetic toward the extras because
he is one of them. They are so desperate to get one short line of dialogue from the director. Zilla
monster ate me baby! (Alford, 1000). Alford tried a Cockney accent which didn t work. He is being
sympathetic to extras because he is one of them. He shares the same perspective.
In the story, Big Kiss , Alford used a lot of dialogue to express his feelings. This dialogue added
humorous factors to the story. However, the inner thoughts of Alford also increased the humor of the
satire. I love this work. I would be hard pressed to recount any event from my personal or professional
life that more accurately typified the phrase crazy fun. (Alford,999). Even though Alford thinks being
an extra is very stupid, he is saying he loves this job, which means Alford is being sarcastic about his

The Greek Hero Of Fame
Greek Hero Essay
Why should Perseus be in the Greek Hall of Fame?
Who was given gifts by gods and goddesses? Who was almost killed by his grandfather? Whose father
was the biggest man on campus? Well, that was Perseus, son of Zeus, and killer of Medusa. Perseus
was a descendant of Zeus and Danae, Acrisius, his grandfather did not like him, so he sent him and his
mother away in a chest in the ocean. Perseus should be in the Greek Hero Hall of Fame, for multiple
different reasons. When considering why he should be in the Greek Hero Hall of Fame, Perseus must
be important because if he wasn t why would there be so many books and movies, all about him. For
example, Percy Jackson book series and movies, and The Clash of the Titans. Perseus is a Greek hero
because he was born of a royal birth, had extreme feats, and died a usual death.
To begin, Perseus was born a son of Zeus and Danae, and from the royal families of the Olympians,
from Zeus, and Libians, from Danae. Even though, he was born into a royal family, he wasn t wanted
in the royal family, since Acrisius sent him away, he really didn t get any power to the royal family.
Perseus, was basically excluded from the family. One piece of evidence is, according to Ancient
origins.net, it states, His grandfather was the king of Argos, Acrisius, who with his wife, Eurydice, had
a daughter Danae. But Acrisius wanted a son. He went to the Oracle of Delphi who told him that, not
only would he have another child, but that child

How the Catholic Church Held Up During the Middle Ages Essay
The Middle Ages was a long period of time. It started in about the 500 A.D. and ended in about 1500
A.D. Not many things can last for this long period of time, but at least one thing did, and that was the
Catholic Church. The Catholic Church consists of Popes, Bishops, Clergy, and Monks, and Nuns were
also part of the Church. Also during the Middle Ages, it also produced many great philosophers (Funk
Wagnall s, 275). From the Middle Ages to the 13th century, the church played important role as
authority, influence. The Catholic Church held up due to the power of the Pope, Pope Gregory s
policies, and the Church was a part of the citizen s daily lives.

The Churches held town meetings, guild meetings, and town council sessions (Gies, 291). It also
became the main provider for civic administration, education, and law. Tithes, were a form of taxation,
but it was used to pay for church management, public services, hospitals, and schooling (Cavendish,
649). Every person would pay taxes and abide by the church s laws (mnsu.edu). The church added
new religious and ethical concept and gave people new moral responsibilities (Funk Wagnall s).
The church had an organized, elaborate hierarchy with the pope as head. The head of the hierarchy in
the church was the pope. The pope was the supreme power of the church and his followers. The pope
was a representative of God. The pope also had the power to influence the king and its advisors,
(mnsu.edu). Each church had its own hierarchy within. Next in line of power is the Bishop, he is the
leader of the church. Bishops were usually very wealthy and dressed very nice. The bishop had its
own duties to fulfill, for example he had the power to adjust the taxes, and also had the power to annul
marriages. Next in line of power is the Parish Priest. The Parish Priest was the Priest of the church; he
would say Mass, which was done in front of the church. He also had the duty of collecting taxes for
the church. Also the Priests were usually the only ones who could read and write in the village

The Role Of Women In Boccaccio
The Decameron is the first literary work speaking for women in Western literature and Boccaccio is
the first male writer functioning as a spokesman for women by writing this work especially for
women, defending women to have the rights of enjoying sexual pleasure, demanding the equal rights
shared by men and women both at home and in society, and requesting free love for women.
Boccaccio says Heaven would indeed be heaven if lovers were there permitted as much enjoyment as
they had experienced , earth . Boccaccio in the introduction of his story bespeaks to women:
Whenever, fairest women, I pause to consider how compassionate you all are by nature. (Boccaccio,

the senses nor is it found on the upper reaches of Mount Asinaio where Filippo Balducci preaches his

Boccaccio provides women with the opportunity to speak their desire but the voice of female desire
appears to emerge more clearly when female desire is consistent with male desire . The centrality of
sexual difference is emphasized through the gendering of the narrators in Boccaccio s masterpiece,
which depicts how social and discursive power is divided between sexes. The fictional storytellers of
the Decameron are marked by their gender and by their express views on sexuality and sexual
difference .(Migiel,82) Migiel makes the case that the stories also Appear to open up the possibility of
the expression of female desire at the same time that they describe severe limits placed on the way in
which women can speak out .

Energy East Pipeline Project (EEPP)
Introduction and Background The focus of this project relates specifically to the Energy East Pipeline
Project (EEPP) which is a large energy related infrastructure project in Canada. By extension, the
implications of this discussion regarding the EEPP also involve debate regarding the future of Canada
s energy independence and the character, in part, of its environmental policies. The EEPP itself is one
of the largest energy infrastructure projects undertaken in Canada s history. The data indicates that the
EEPP will consist of 4,600 kilometres of pipeline designed to transport crude oil in amounts up to 1.1
million barrels a day from the Alberta oil sand fields to oil refineries and marine loading facilities in
New Brunswick and Quebec City.[1] ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The EEPP is designed to allow Canadian interests to transport the crude oil produced from its oil
sands in Alberta to other international markets. Therefore, understanding how the EEPP is merely a
reflection of the oil sands development is a prerequisite to understanding the EEPP itself. Data and
information already suggest that the negative environmental and health effects associated with the
Alberta oil sands development are significant in which the Woodland Caribou is projected to become
extinct within the entire Alberta region due to the destruction of its habitat and also the cancer rate for
the First Nations people at Fort Chipewyan is 30% higher over previous levels.[5] These and
associated developments over the past decade or so are revealing just how poorly managed the
environmental aspects of the oil sands project are. There is a clear lack of oversight, environmental
management and accountability for these types of negative outcomes. The supposition is such that if
the oil sand fields are so managed so poorly from an environmental perspective then there can be little
doubt that the EEPP will likely be just as poorly

How Does Love And Hip Hop Affect African American Culture

Bernie Madoff s Unethical Behavior
Bernie Madoff is a perfect example of how unethical behavior can turn into corruption. Madoff, a
former investment and stockbroker, was formally introduced to the world as the sole operator in the
largest Ponzi scheme on record. Madoff turned his financial management company into a colossal
Ponzi scheme that swindled billions, from thousands of his investors. According to federal
investigators, Madoff s Ponzi scheme began as early as the 1980 s and continued to operate under
sheer deception and utter lies. Madoff s powerful presence, narcissism, voracity and unethical
behavior had him pleading guilty to eleven federal offenses, including: wire fraud, securities fraud,

In this case, it appears that Madoff had many friends and family members who were involved in the
fraud. Speculate about how likely it is that Madoff s own sons, who were employees of the firm, knew
nothing of the fraud as they stated.
Madoff s sons were highly suspected of being aware of the fraud, but they both adamantly denied this,
and charges were never brought because one son killed himself while the other died of cancer. A
federal investigation was on the cusp of charging the son who died of cancer with tax evasion
resulting from the Ponzi scheme before his death this year it was reported.
4. Explain the ethical issues that are associated with running a family owned business. Are these issues
present within Madoff s firm?
Ethical issues associated with running a family owned business, is a lack of checks and balances,
because of familial ties. In Bernie Madoffs case, many of the primary people in the business were
family members such as his chief compliance officer, which is supposed to reassure investors that
everything is as it should be. Madoff s chief compliance officer was his niece, Shana Madoff. In
addition, she had married a former employee of the US Securities and Exchange Commission who had

Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change yourself and the world.
There is a reason why every civilization throughout time has valued education, because it truly can
alter our collective condition and make our lives easier, simpler, and most crucially, happier! From
Egyptians learning to write on papyrus tablets to late nineteenth century scientists striving to discover
medicines like penicillin, there has always been an urge in humanity to be better and to be more than

The strength and force of education is visible to anyone who cares to look at the recent Egyptian
revolution, where young students, with minds opened to the wonders of democracy, through
education, helped overthrow the yoke of suffering that their parents had silently borne. Education is
the silent and effective weapon of nonviolence, which can help people and societies break the cycle of
oppression that many have historically suffered from. Many oppressed societies, where dictators have
thrived, have had a paucity of education avenues.
Education liberates the mind from its shackles and fears and encourages it to challenge and to
communicate with others. It is not without a reason that education is at the bottom of the priority list
of dictators. It was also not without reason that upon annexation of neighboring states. Many dictators
find it easy to unscrupulously deny people education or better still, manipulate education to serve their
own selfish interests. Throughout history, and even today, autocratic leaders censor literature and
books and prevent potent ideas from spreading since they realize that an idea is the most powerful
force in the world and can transform a human being completely. More importantly though, to me, an
educated person also has the capability to objectively analyze issues, recognize and learn from
existing flaws,

The Prince And Discourse On Livy
In his famous works, The Prince and Discourse on Livy, Machiavelli meticulously discusses the
importance of religion in the formation and maintaining a political order. Machiavelli regards religion
as a political tool used by political elites for political purposes. He argues that the appearance of
religion is good while the practice of it is harmful. One of the memorable passage from the Prince that
supports Machiavelli s claim is when he advices the prince to not to be good, and the prince should
cultivate the appearance of the religion if he wants to maintain his state. The prince, he writes, should
appear all mercy, all faith, all honesty, all human, all religion he adds and nothing is more necessary to
have than this last quality (The Prince, 70). Here, Machiavelli argues, in order for the prince to
maintain his state, it is necessary for the prince to go to the source of morality and by this he means
religion. Thus, Machiavelli view on religion is nothing but a necessary tool for maintaining a political
authority.
Furthermore, Machiavelli stresses the importance of the religion as a political mean to control and
govern the masses. In the Discourse on Livy, Machiavelli uses the example of how Numa the founder
of Roman religion, manipulates the Roman people by using religion to maintain order and peace.
Machiavelli praises the wisdom of Numa for inventing a religion to control a very ferocious Romans.
In praising Numa, Machiavelli writes: As he found a very

Impact Of Political And Economic Changes On American...
During the era of 1810 to 1850, many changes took place that shaped our government today. Some
political changes that took place include: the expanding of democracy, voting privileges, eligibility to

growth of the electorate, political parties, nullification, the removal of governmental deposits, etc. An
economic change that shaped US government was mainly the industrial revolution. Cultural changes
can be seen in accordance with the political and economic changes, this is because the people had to

The industrial revolution came about because of many variables: progresses in transportation and
communications, the development of manufacturing innovation, the advancement of new frameworks
of business association, and maybe most importantly, increases in population development. As far as
population trends, America became more populous as the years went by. The population was about 4
million in 1790. By 1820, it had reached 10 million and 17 million by 1840. New developments in
public health played an important role in the population growth. (Brinkley, 222) Railroads were a very
efficient way of transportation. They got people and supplies to places faster than in previous times.
The telegraph improved communication. Before the telegraph, communication over long distances
could only happen in person. Without the railroads, the telegraph would not work because the wires of
the telegraph ran along the railroad tracks and the telegraph offices were usually located in the railroad

Abstract
In a story, the particular way a character uses language sheds light on her understanding of herself and
the world around her because language is the vessel for meaning making and the construction of
reality. In literature, stylistics (Simpson 2004, Jeffries 2010) provides the tools for an analysis of
language by investigating where the literary effects stem from. One of the tools is transitivity

According to Merriam Webster s Learners Dictionary, the definition of Worldview is The way
someone thinks about the world . Although this simple phrase seems to the point, it is so very vague. It

In that sense my worldview is very Christian. The Secular Humanist comes in when it comes to the
idea of organized religion. I dislike the pressure organized religion puts on people to attend church and
tithe to the Church to keep it alive . I merely see it as someone playing the middle man to gain wealth
by way of God. I speak to God in my own way I thank him daily each time I walk outside and see the
children I was able to birth, healthy and happy, enjoying nature because He created it.
One of the most recent events that has helped change and evolve my worldview was bringing children
into the world. This was something I had always thought of and unfortunately pregnancy was not easy
for me. I lost many in the task of birthing two, who were strong but had a hard road from the minute
they were born. Being Catholic denomination, we are not to use birth control or lesson the fruits of my
husband loins . The two children that lived and grew were all my body could handle. The medications
I had to take during pregnancy wasted me away before my family s eyes. Another child could have
killed me. Because of this, my husband decided to have a vasectomy procedure to make sure that we
didn t have any more children so he wasn t left to raise them alone. The priest of our church was not
happy with this at all. He lectured us about this and made us feel like we were doing something
horrible. I spoke to him

The Meals Tax was proposed by Fairfax County. The reason for this Meals Tax is to fund public schools and county services. The seventy percent will go to Fairfax County Public Schools. Also, the thirty percent will go towards capital improvements, county services and property tax relief. It would impose a four percent tax on top of the existing six percent sales tax. The Meals Tax will support Fairfax County children and help protect the quality of life for all. The Meals Tax would predictably harm more of low middle class families. In these tough economic times, this tax will be no help and it will hurt people. There are many questions to the Meals Tax. What is Meals Tax? The definition of this tax is taxes incurred in addition to a state s sales tax on the purchase of prepared foods that are eaten in restaurant or to go. • 4. How Does Brutus Use Logos In Killing Caesar Brutus use of logos in his funeral speech was ineffective because they were logical fallacies and were not supported by solid facts. Brutus thought that Caesar s nature would change after he obtained more power and authority, and that keeping Caesar around would be very catastrophic, since he could turn his back against his people any time. In Brutus funeral speech, he tried to convince the Plebeians that Caesar was too ambitious, was a threat to the Roman Republic, and will cause the Plebeians to become suppressed and enslaved. As Brutus said to the Plebeians, Had you rather Caesar were living and die all slaves, than that Caesar dead, to live all free men (III.ii.24 26)? • 5. Symbolism In Raskolnikov s Nightmare He had not an instant more to lose. He pulled the axe out completely, swung it with both arms, scarcely conscious of himself, and almost without effort, almost mechanically, brought the blunt side down on her head... Then with all his strength he dealt her another and another blow with the blunt side, and on the same spot (Dostoyevsky 77). Relating the following passage to previous events in the book, a symbolic connection can be made between the murder to Raskolnikov s nightmare (55 59). Whenever Raskolnikov is out on a walk, he thinks of disturbing circumstances, only to come across something beautiful in his eyes. Horses are generally described to be both majestic and beautiful, which would apply to Raskolnikov s attraction towards them. Horses are also often used to symbolize freedom and strength, which is what he vaguely hopes for. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Alyona was the old woman who worked as a pawnbroker, but she was extremely untrusting and unliked by the community (as displayed whenever Raskolnikov was in the bar). During a certain bar visit, Raskolnikov overhears a conversation that basically brings up murder, as the old woman served no real purpose to society and would make things better if she were to disappear. • 6. What Is Kurt Lewin s Field Theory And Process Driven Change Turnaround and Transformation Duke University Children s Hospital was facing a financial crisis in 1996 that required turnaround and transformation in order for the hospital to survive (Spector, 2013). On top of the financial crisis, caused by decreased Medicaid allowances and an increase in capitated reimbursement patients, patient and staff satisfaction had reached an all time low (Spector, 2013). The hospital s chief medical director, Jon Meliones, understood that the hospital could only do so much to control their financial outcomes and a united front would be needed to bring about effective and impactful change (Spector, 2013). Kurt Lewin s Field Theory Process Driven Change According to Spector (2013) Lewin s field theory has three steps: 1) unfreezing; 2) Moving and; 3) refreezing. Unfreezing and refreezing serve as bookends to the process. Unfreezing requires members of the group to be unsatisfied with the status quo (Spector, 2013). In the case of Children s Hospital, the financial crisis and employee moral/satisfaction were at all time lows which created the dissatisfaction with the status quo (Spector, 2013). Once a new status quo and new patterns of behavior have been implemented refreezing can occur (Spector, 2013). However, in order to get to refreezing, moving needs to occur which encourages members of the group to alter their behavior (Spector, 2013). One way to encourage members of the group to alter their behavior, or move, is through process driven ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There are many factors which contribute their parts in making the process unsuccessful. The major ones are seasonality of the raw materials, shortfalls in logistics, absence of proved manufacturing systems, lack of skilled workers and very many technical factors. To produce low ash, high Btu briquettes form coal fine and timber wastes research works were done in the University of Kentucky. More than 70 million tons of coal fines are dumped at the abandoned site near the Appalachian coal fields. Combining the coal fine with the wastes from nearby timber industries briquettes were made and tested for various parameters. It was concluded that the briquettes were of premium quality and that offers near term practical solutions to generate green energy utilizing existing equipments [1]. There are works going on in designing energy management methods in biomass applications, as at least 15% of energy is wasted in drying the biomass before using in boilers or any other heating system. The typical moisture content of biomass varies from 50% to 63% by weight in most of the situations including the seasons and types of biomass. A low initial moisture level could utilize most of the energy released during combustion and it will make larger boiler unnecessary. Utilizing exhaust gases to preheat the input biomass to a lower level of moisture can conserve the energy significantly [3]. Though briquetting of biomass as a green fuel is a necessary solution, the primary importance of any biomass should be for feeding animals. In Mexico the excesses residues of corn, sugarcane, sorghum and wheat are briquetted and sent to livestock growing regions to handle dry seasons. There were other advantages like homogeneous ... Octavian enabled the long, peaceful time of the Pax Romana by changing Rome from a fragile, crumbling republican government to a mighty empire. Octavian s government was strong enough to withstand weak emperors who mismanaged the Empire as well. His changes proved to be the cornerstone of the greatest empire the world has ever seen. The Pax Romana, or Roman Peace, was a time of great prosperity for all people under Rome s rule. In 48 Caesar had his fifteen year old great nephew elected to the priestly college of the pontifices, and he also enrolled him in the hereditary patrician aristocracy of Rome: Octavian joined Caesar in 46 B.C.E on campaign against Pompey in Spain. Later, Octavian was sent to Apollonia, on the coast of Greece, to attempt to finish his education. While in Apollonia, Octavian trained with Roman legions stationed there. Only months after arriving in Apollonia, Octavian learned that Caesar was murdered. He also learned that he was named as the beneficiary in Caesar s will and had been formally adopted as his son. The will thrust tremendous power on Octavian. He was now the leader of a great army ready to follow the commands of Caesar s heir. Octavian used this army to occupy Rome and force the Senate to make him consul. Marc Antony, who had been consul with Caesar, was now forced to create the alliance with Lepidus, a high priest, and Octavian. The three leaders divided the land that Rome had conquered. Antony controlled the East and Octavian the West. Lepidus controlled Africa. The leaders led a ruthless campaign to punish Caesar¹s assassins but soon turned on each other. As you know, everyone including Australians have their own way of understanding and an opinion of the world and people in it. That s called their voice . It gives them love and they love it too. The next thing I want to say which explores Australians unique ways of thinking is their belief in what is right or wrong no matter who is involved. Because the house means everything to Australians people, they will do everything they can to protect it. My fellow worker also director of The Castle , Rob Sitch has cleverly and effectively used many film techniques to express this idea. Do you remember when Darryl and Dennis stand in the Federal court? There is a big contrast between the underdog and the authorities. The close up and the medium shots were taken to show his confidence in the facial expression and body language. On the other hand, the low angel camera shot up to the judge emphasis the power of the law. These both reveal Darryl s determination of battling even when he knows that he is fighting against the government. By these techniques, it s clear to see that no matter how hard the situation is, no matter how limited individuals ability is, Australians people will still be brave to stand up, fight for their right and protect their family. And, last but not least, the very important thing I have to tell you is Australians willingness to help and fight for underdogs. • 14. The Beatitudes Is Not Only A Blessing The Beatitudes may appear as if they are merely a simple arrangement of blessings, but in reality they are full of meaning and beyond any ordinary passage in the Bible. Every line in the Beatitudes is not only a blessing, but a call for action directed towards the people of Israel. The passage seems to focus on Jesus as he speaks to his disciples and the crowd listening about how they could achieve the righteousness that will create the foundation of Heaven. He is not simply encouraging people to live morally and repent so that they will be welcome into the Kingdom of God. He is urging them to learn how to live happily and spread their generosity to others so that they will feel more connected to God. Jesus seems to direct most of the Beatitudes towards his disciples, who represent a new and reborn Israel that harbors no hesitation to put their faith in God, while the crowd that listens intently to Jesus s words are the potential that Israel has to become virtuous. The Beatitudes are the guidelines that Israelites must follow so that they may live ethical and pure lives. The Beatitudes are much more allegorical than literal. They are written instructions that the Israelites are required to follow if they wish to live wholeheartedly, rather than a way to act in order to be accepted by God and welcomed into Heaven. For instance, the first line in the Beatitudes, Blessed are they who mourn, for they shall be comforted (Matthew 5:4) depicts those who are grateful for Jesus ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 18. Theories Of The Common Sense Questioning whether or not people make choices seems to be an arbitrary concept to ponder. Common sense causes one to believe that, of course, humans make choices daily. Even now, common sense dictates that it is a choice to read this paper or even for this paper to be written at all. However, according to one form of early philosophy, common sense has led society astray. Each event that occurs throughout the universe has causation such that one never acts of his or her own free will. This theory of the absence of free will, known as hard determinism, has three main premises as its basis. The first premise states that no event is uncaused (Kleinman 64). This appeals to humanity s practicality; for every force, there is an equal and opposite force. One reaps what he or she sows. What goes around, comes around. This form of logic demonstrated in the first premise satisfies society s intrinsic desire for predictability and reason. The second premise then states that if an event is caused, it must occur; likewise, if it must occur, no other outcome could be achieved. Thus, if every event s outcome is predetermined through causation, no man can act against it; this tenet makes up the third and final premise (Kleinman 64). Therefore, based upon these three premises, no man holds the power of free will. As can be imagined, hard determinism appears to have a few holes in its validity as a theory. A person, for instance, consciously makes choices each day, such as choices of diet ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
