The Pros And Disadvantages Of Modern Test Taking

Modern Test Taking
There have been many studies done to figure out which of the many testing styles allow students to
both retain more information and help elevate some of the pre exam stress, while at the same time not
putting too much work on the professor. Out of all the styles that have been tested, two of the most
common styles that constantly rival each other are the open book test vs. the closed book tests. Many
teachers still cling to the traditional closed books test.
A closed book test is a test where students are expected to study their note before a test is given and
try their very best to memorize everything that they can fit into their heads in order to successfully
pass the test, then go into the exam with nothing but the pencil in their hand and the test on their desk.
An open book test, is a test that allows students to bring either their notes or something that can be
written on such as a sheet of paper or a note card that was given to the student before the exam.
Both of these exam types have a wide range of both advantages and disadvantages.
One of the most common disadvantages that is often mentioned for closed book exams is the fact that
as far as the real world is concerned, closed book test are unrealistic. For many subjects the idea of
doing a task with nothing but the sole information in someone s head would be seen as not only absurd
but actually careless. An example of this absurdity and

The Probability Of Picking A Starfish
Instruct
Many students get confused when learning about fractions. At our grade level we teach about parts of
a whole, equal shares, and partitioning.
1. Starfish, shark, whale and dolphin probability:
The probability of picking a starfish will equal the number of starfish (3) divided by the total number
(10). Therefore, the probability of the student picking a starfish is 3/10.
The probability of picking a shark will be 3 sharks out of 10. This equals 3/10
The probability of whales will be 3/10 and the probability of dolphins will be 1/10.
2. How are the probabilities affected if each student replaces his or her sea animal after picking it?
When a student replaces their sea animal, nothing will change. On the first pull, the probability of
getting a starfish is 3/10, because there are 10 sea animals and 3 of them are starfish. If that starfish is
replaced (put back in the fishpond), the probability for the second pull is still 3/10, and that means the
events are independent. The result of one trial does not affect the result of another. Probabilities
remain the same.
3. Select one of the sea animals. Give an example of how the probabilities are changed if that sea
animal is replaced or not replaced after a student picks it out of the fishpond.
Suppose a student picks out a sea animal at random from the fish pond, then replaces it and a second
animal is chosen. If replaced, the probability of choosing a starfish and then a dolphin is; P(Starfish)=
3/10 P(dolphin)=

Jane Austen s The Lighthouse By Virginia Woolf And Pride...
People imprint themselves on their surroundings; they inject fleeting moments into the veins of their
environments, boiling the blood that swims hot through every crevice, echoing and lingering
indefinitely. According to Wisker houses are the principal locations where the presence of its residents
leave lasting imprints on the structure (2011, 4). Novels To The Lighthouse by Virginia Woolf and
Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen both use domestic environments as important sites to emphasise
and reflect their characters by deploying the literary techniques of language and style from their
respective eras. Woolf as a Modernist writer from the early twentieth century uses experimental
techniques and the supernatural genre that was prevalent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Ramsey Summer House remains abandoned during those ten years, decaying slowly, groaning
and weeping as it remembers the tenants it once possessed and the movements they made how once
hands were busy with hooks and buttons; how once the looking glass had held a face; had held a world
hollowed out in which a figure turned, a hand flashed, the door opened, in came children rushing and
tumbling; and went out again (Woolf 1927, 339). The house bore witness to every breath and every
argument; it absorbed fluttering eyelashes, clapped hands, and footsteps; drowned in laughter and in
tears; the house was enraptured by the Ramsey s and remembers them fondly as their images haunt its
halls (Wisker 2011, 6).
Each moment the Ramsey s spent in the house becomes infinite in its memory as the house has
absorbed every second they existed there from all perspective imaginable (Hunter 2004, 32). The
House asks will you fade? Will you perish? (Woolf 1927, 339) as it deteriorates, questing the
memories that resonate and pulsate through its corridors as well as its mortality. Animals and plants
brought life to the stagnant house once again, morphing into the memory of the Ramsey s as they
nestled amongst their abandoned possessions (Woolf 1927, 345). Mrs McNab reappears to restore

Essay on The Kite Runner Relationship and Symbolism
How does Hosseini use symbolism in The Kite Runner to present key relationships? You should
consider different reader responses and the extent to which your critical approach assists your
interpretation. In Khaled Hosseini s novel, The Kite Runner , it is often thought that symbols and
metaphors are used as visual representations to reinforce and put emphasis on important stages in the
novel. In can be seen that symbols are used in the novel to highlight particular moments in key
relationships. For example Kites, the Pomegranate tree, Scars and the Slingshot are each used to put
emphasis on specific moments in the relationships between Amir and Hassan and Amir and Baba.
Through using symbolism and metaphor to present these key ... Show more content on

At the end of the novel, the roles are swapped. Amir acts as the kite runner, whereas Sorhab (Hassan s
son who represents Hassan at this point) is the kite flyer. This could be symbolic of Amir completing
his journey of redemption and him re establishing his relationship with Hassan. In particular, I feel
that in chapter 7, the Blue Kite is used as a symbol of Hassan s loyalty towards Amir. Hassan will not
give up the blue kite which he ran for Amir after winning the kite tournament, even when he is faced
with rape as he is afraid that giving up the kite will jeopardize his friendship with Amir. This could be
seen as symbolic of the protection and dedication which Hassan shows towards Amir. The blue kite is
an object which is in between Hassan and Assef in chapter seven, in the same way that in chapter five,
Amir is in between Hassan and Assef. Hassan won t let the blue kite get torn or damaged by Assef in
the same way that he wouldn t let Assef hurt Amir in chapter 5, in my opinion the blue kite is clearly a
symbol of Hassan s dedication and devotion towards Amir; he would rather endure rape than
disappoint him. Secondly the Pomegranate tree can be seen as a symbol of Amir and Hassan
friendship, childhood innocence and shelter. The tree is presented to the reader in two different states.
When the tree appears in the first part of the story, in chapter 4, the tree is shown as being fruitful and
blooming with blood red

Forgiveness In The Rime Of The Ancyent Marinere
To earn forgiveness for a crime and claim redemption, one must endure a punishment and then show
love to the one whom he has wronged. This concept ties into the moral in the poem entitled: The Rime
Of The Ancyent Marinere, by Samuel Coleridge. The epic tackles themes of crime, punishment and
redemption. At first glance, the piece does not appear to follow a coherent pattern; however, through
close reading, a hidden logic appears behind the overwhelming chaos of the piece. He prayeth well
who loveth well/ Both man and bird and beast (Rime 1797,VII. 645 646) is a sentiment that holds
great importance for a general bettering of humanity. This moral emphasizes that to have a good life,
one must balance spirituality and love. Forgiveness within ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

27 28). Taking this voyage is what aids the Marinere in learning this structure of crime, punishment,
and redemption. Through his experience, the Marinere gains the appreciation he holds for all beings,
He prayeth well who loveth well/ Both man and bird and beast (VII. 645 646). The following line is
given immediately after to ensure the reader latches onto the importance of the moral. He prayeth best
who loveth best/ All things both great and small: (VII. 647 648). This outlook is not possible earlier
because the Marinere has no experiential context for these ideas; however, his experience of dropping
below the known, gives him access to the sublime. He experiences an expanse that has obscure and
terrifying qualities which evoke the sublime (Burke 35 37). Many instances of sublimity are in events
and characters throughout the poem. For instance, the storm that blew the ship about like Chaff (I. 48),
is an event, which is terrifying. The ice figures that are many and varied portray the obscurity of the
sublime (I. 55). Ice surrounds the Marinere s ship showing the power that nature constantly maintains
over man, The Ice was here, the Ice was there,/ The Ice was all around (I. 57 58). This introduces yet
another aspect and perspective of the sublime. For the Marinere, the act of physically moving into a
space so unknown and seemingly

Alexander Graham Bell Has Changed The Way Our World
Alexander Graham Bell
Have you ever thought about life what life was like when communication was hard? If you were far
away from someone you would either have to write or walk, and both of those would take a long time
to get a message somewhere. The introduction of the telephone changed the way our world worked. If
you have used a phone anytime in your life, and almost everyone has, you need to thank the creator,
Alexander Graham Bell. Alexander Graham Bell has changed the way our world works, thanks to his
many famous and important inventions.
On March 3, 1847 in Edinburgh, Scotland, Alexander Bell, the teacher of the deaf and Scottish born
American inventor was born. Alexander s middle name Graham was not added until he was about ten
years old. He added his middle name because he also wanted one like his brothers. His father gave
him his middle name as his birthday present. He was the middle child and both of his brothers passed
away from tuberculosis later in his life. Tuberculosis is a fatal disease that attacks the lungs. His
grandfather was an elocution professor and his father was an expert on elocution and the mechanics of
the voice. Elocution is the art of public speaking. He was homeschooled for most of his life by his
mother and he got one year of schooling at a private school and two years at Edinburgh High School.
His mother was nearly deaf and was a very talented piano player and painter which inspired him to do
big things in his lifetime. Bell also knew

in Sweden in the year of 1973. In total, 144 athletes were involved in this investigation and answers
were received from 99 (69%). It was asked in the questionnaire whether the athletes had been using
any anabolic steroids. In case steroids had been used the athletes were asked to answer specific

Continuous Quality Improvement In Nursing
Continuous quality improvement is a philosophy that encourages a healthcare team to continuously
ask: How are we doing? and Can we do it better? More specifically, can we do it more efficiently?
Can we be more effective? Can we do it faster? Can we do it in a more timely way? Continuous
improvement begins with a culture of improvement for the patient, the practice, and the population in
general (NLC, 2013). Having a continuous quality improvement initiative is a to construct a design to
tackle an evaluation of a current procedure being used and improving the process to be able to attain a
desired outcome.

to collecting a urine culture. The urine culture initiative that our organization now follows goes as:
when a urine culture gets ordered, and if your patients urinary catheter has been in for more than three
days or was placed outside of our organization we are to:
Remove the urinary catheter.
Clean the peri area well with soap and water/aloe vesta spray/ castile wipes.
Allow patient to be incontinent times 1, for up to 2 hours.
Replace urinary catheter per hospital protocol making sure sterile technique is being followed, if still
indicated.
Allow 4 hours of urine flow before sending the culture to wash out the biofilm.
Following this initiative has shown to decrease positive urine cultures. Within a seven month period of
tracking urine cultures sent with following the exact protocol, we had one out of sixteen positive

30thbrigade Research Paper
The 30thbrigade was originally the 6th brigade located in Fort Bliss, which moved to Fort Sill in 2010.
It was switched over in May 18, 2012. The reason for the change was because Col. Bill Stacy was
wanting to get a new set of colors. Since there was an upcoming parade, he wanted the colors to be
standing out. The Center of Military History, informed him that there was no set of colors or that they
didn t have any colors for them. Due to the fact that they didn t have any direct link to any wartime
unit. As Col. Bill Stacy being the commander to the unit he was in his belief. After The Center of

Paper About Turkeys
I believe the short film was made for a fun informative. The videographer took advantage of an
unusual topic and made the story interesting. The main point of the story was to show an average
neighborhood s day interrupted by random turkeys, leaving the neighborhood in astonishment. The
videographer demonstrates the story from the resident s point of view but mostly the woman s point of
view. I think that was the case because of how the woman was so delighted about the entire situation.
The story engages the audience by bringing curiosity of how the turkeys got there in the first place and
what are the turkeys going to do afterwards. Correspondingly, the videographer captures a long shot of
the turkeys walking out of the shot towards the pole. This video for starters, does a good job of
establishing the setting of the neighborhood with a sequence of a few basics shots. In the beginning
the viewers notices the long shot of the plane and the houses, a close up of the branch, and a cut away
of the American flag. The videographer also uses natural sound, catching the ... Show more content on

The videographer does a great job of focusing the camera on objects that make the neighborhood seem
average. For example, the plane flying by, the kid on the skateboard, and the ADT sign. Showing the
turkeys and the residents in a shot is essential for the audience to get an understanding that this event
is random and unexpected. Voice overs are important to the story by showing whoever is speaking at
the time, what they are doing. It basically creates a better understanding. I personally thought it was
cool how the videographer got a high shot for the ending of the video of the turkeys walking away.
Also, that shot specifically, was longer than normal in my opinion, for a theatrical affect. The fact that
the turkeys were roaming a neighborhood randomly was a perfect idea for any viewer s

The Decline of the West
The Decline of the West
In todays world we are getting more and more materialized. When being a kid in school it is all about
getting the newest phone, wearing the most expensive clothing and every other materialized thing, to
show off how much money we have. We measure our happiness in things, clothes, cars and so on. The
greed of getting more and new things is decreasing. Before the financial crises in 2008 every family
lent money to buy new things all the time. No worries were to be shown in any family, until the crack
happened. Nowadays the crisis has slowly turned around again and in school it s still about collecting
the newest items. In the short story from 2010 by Hanif Kureishi, the problem of greed and a
materialized world is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From this view the kids seems rather ungrateful and rude to their father and we don t see their side of
the story. It seems like everyone is against Mike and that no one is happy about Mike working hard to
delight his family. On the contrary it would look rather different if it had been from the wife or kids
point of view.
The title The Decline of the West can be a directly reference to the western worlds economic
problems. This theme is clear throughout the short story, where especially Mike thinks about his
choice of lifestyle that he and many others have had through many years. He considers whether the
financial crises can be the punishment for this: Like many people, Mike had also worried whether the
present catastrophe was punishment for years of extravagance and self indulgence. (p. 4, l. 86 87)
Another thing to notice about the short story is how values like love, closeness and indulgence is
nowhere to be found. And the title can therefore be related to moral degeneration, which Mike s
family is an example of. The title can be a critical comment on the western worlds excessive focus on
money at the expense of more important thing like family and Mike is actually thinking about the
Marxism prediction, which affects him personally: Since capitalism was cracking under the weight of
its contradictions as the Marxists has predicted ... they would have to find a

How Eleanor Roosevelt Changed The World
Eleanor changed the way we view our first lady. We now know them as independent women who
happen to have their husbands in Office. They take charge of changing the United States for the better
of the citizens of the United States. Eleanor is the niece of the former president Theodore Roosevelt.
She was born into wealthy New York family. Her father Elliott Roosevelt was a alcoholic and had a
narcotic addiction. When their family went overseas for a vacation they sent Elliott to an asylum in
France. Later Theodore sent him to an alcoholic center to help, located in Dwight,Illinois. Anna Hall
Roosevelt, Eleanor s mother, died very early and was a shock to the entire family. Her mother died

Clothes and Their Power to Transform and Create Character...
The semiotics of costume explores signs and symbols present which help create a character. Costume
is a huge tool for the performer as it can convey a great deal about the character and places them into
the setting and time period. Costume is a form of expression that allows the performer to change the
way they are perceived by the audience. Colour used in costume can also translate a characters
persona or status. Colour is often manipulated subtly by directors with mise en scene.
Catholic church
In the Catholic Church symbolism and signs are very dominant and play a massive part in sermons.
The liturgical colours used for vestments are quite specific to the time of year. The range of liturgical
colours in the Church evolved from the spiritual significance that supports them. Colour is very
significant to the tradition of ritual of mass. The colour white is often seen to represent innocence of
the soul and purity this is heavily present in the Catholic Church in special occasions such as Baptism,
First Communion and Weddings. This could also be seen as a performance where the person is
perceived as innocent and pure so that they are ready to accept god. The colour white is often used in
performance and is seen as an angelic colour. Red is a symbol of guilt, anger, sin, lust, passion and
love across many cultures and is often linked to blood and sex. In the bible Isiah said Though your
sins be as scarlet, they shall be white as snow.

In the original Grimm s tale, Snow White s ignorance almost kills her three times, and in the end the

also nonexistent within the original tale. Many find the Grimm s fairy tales dark, yet Donald
Barthelme s modern retelling of the classic Snow White is so extreme to the point it emphasizes the

Magnet schools are free public elementary and secondary schools that have a focus theme such as
STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), Fine and Performing Arts, or Career

theme that would interest the student or the parents would like for student to be interested in.
However, for those in lower classes, they will be disheartened to find that low income, ESOL, and
special education students are underrepresented. The admission criteria for magnet schools is so
stringent that it rejects those with failing grades, records of bad behavior, or many absences from
schools. Students who meet the criteria that is usually rejected are those from lower socio economic
classes due to needs not being met. With lack of representation and harsh criteria to meet, it is often
very difficult for students in social classes to meet this criteria and achieve a spot in a magnet school.

Young Earth Scientists
How does current science support each of the Biblical views of Young Earth Scientists(YEC), and Old
Earth Scientists(OEC)? This is a question that is disputed among many scientists. Although both
groups believe that the Bible is the word of God, they both interpret it differently. For example Young
Earth Creationists believe that the earth was literally created in one week. Old Earth Creationists
believe, however, that days did not refer to 24 hours, but referred to longer periods of time. It is
important for people to understand the differences and similarities between the beliefs of Young Earth
Creationists and Old Earth Creationists, so that they can determine which view is supported by
science.

The main difference in belief is of the age of the universe. Both groups use many difference
exclamations to support their side of this issue. Ice cores have been used to try to determine the age of
ice sheets in Greenland, and Antarctica. This works the same way as counting tree rings. However, it
is not as simple. There is still controversy on the outcome of this method. 110,000 layers have been
counted in the Antarctic sheet and have been claimed by some that these are annual layers. If this were
true, then that would suggest that the ice sheet is 110,000 years old. But these layers have been shown
not to be annual. Recently two B 17 Flying Fortresses and six P 38 Lightning fighters were excavated
in Antartica. Nearly 50 years after they went down, the planes had been covered in 250 feet of ice.
Hundreds of rings were noticed during the excavation. Since hundreds of rings were produced in less
than 50 years, this shows that the rings do not indicate years. The excavation showed the rate of
accumulation to be 5.5 feet per year. The deepest core dug is was about 10,000 feet deep. After
considering compression, 4,400 years is enough time to produce that much ice(Ice Core Dating
Segment). This shows that the Young Earth Creationist time frame can fit in ice

The Issue Of The World Populace Is Doing Combating The Pay...
All through the historical background of the world, segregation in the sum total of what structures
have been a consistent fight; whether its race, sexual orientation, religion, convictions, appearance or
whatever else that makes one individual not quite the same as another, it s occurring each day. One
critical separation issue the world populace is doing combating, happens is the pay gap. Ladies, who
are as similar with the same experience as men are not getting equal pay, this is otherwise called
systemic separation. The acknowledgment that man and lady can deliver the same results, and have
the same ability to fulfill the same. The continuing issue of the past has now turned into an obvious
issue in our current society. Ladies these days have opportunities that were not reachable in past
decades, but rather should overcome, or by and large disregard, the hindrance of being rebuffed over
the long haul for basically being a lady. Does not matter what gender you are, your gender shouldn t
determine your ability, if that individual takes care of business right, he or she ought to be paid for
doing as such, if not, that individual gets repercussions. The impact of sexual orientation on this issue
is exceptionally inquisitive in the matter of why it is even a component in any case. It is broadly
acknowledged all through today s general public that sports is a man s game. Ladies have been
basically avoided from playing sports and also not being equalized as men. Ladies are

Satire In The Daily Show
A short segment follows with a fake political correspondent or commentator exaggerating the issue or
mocking the absurdity of a situation. The show concludes with a guest interview either for promotion
of a recent work or for discussion on a current political issue.
Due to its blended nature as both a comedy and news show, The Daily Show has been able to ignore
both news media and comedy conventions, occupying a space that would make most news shows
wince and journalists hesitate. Many scholars and media critics debate whether the show is fake news
or reliable journalism. Although there are certainly segments that are obviously fake news, the vast
majority of The Daily Show is far from the realm of fake news, but also quite distinct from hard news
and journalism. There is a significant different between a fake news program and a satirical news
program. Satire is a discourse of inquiry that attempts to unravel the morality of issues being
discussed.1 Fake news is simply made up and has no basis in fact. Satirical news, though, puts a spin
on the actual news. Stewart and the other writers of the show rarely invent stories. Instead, they
construct episodes around sound bytes and video clips from actual stories on the major news
networks. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In fact, some contend that Stewart s refusal to abide by traditional journalistic conventions signals a
stark contrast with the recent mutual embrace between press and politics. 2 The following analysis,

of the satirical news aspect of the

John Brown And The Abolition Movement
also the value of non violent resistance supported by the transcendentalists and, There were many
prominent figures in the Abolition movement that made great strides to freedom. Most took the route
of political campaigning, but a few decided to take a more direct approach. One said individual is John
Brown. John Brown was a white abolitionist born in Connecticut who simply grew tired of the pacifist
approach and took up arms with a few volunteers against slavery. Brown was born the son of Owen
Brown, a tanner, in the town of Torrington, Connecticut. The Browns were conventional evangelicals,
and John went to school in Massachusetts to become a Congregationalist minister. Unfortunately he
ran out of money and returned to his family and opened his own tannery with his brother. He soon
started a family and his tannery was growing to a very successful business. A few years came to pass,
and tragedy struck his family. One of his sons died, Brown became very sick, he incurred a
tremendous amount of debt, and his wife passed shortly after the death of a newborn son. A year later
he would marry 16 year old Mary Ann, and have 13 children, creating a total of 20 children of which
only 11 would survive into adulthood. After moving his family to the town of Franklin Mills, Ohio, he
opened a new tannery but soon fell victim to the Panic of 1837, leaving him in more debt. He took up
horse and sheep breeding, as well as many other efforts to relieve himself of his debts. Brown was

Frank Dikötter s The Cultural Revolution
Between 1962 to 1976, China underwent one of the most devastating government lead social reforms,
the Cultural Revolution. The Cultural Revolution was a sociopolitical movement lead by Mao Zedong
where his influence made many young Chinese students, who would be known as Red Guards, pledge
to a social political war against capitalism. Frank Dikötter is the author of his award winning book
called The Cultural Revolution: A People s History, 1962 1976, where he presents The Cultural
Revolution in a new light by constructing it from the perspective of the individuals who experienced
it. In Dikötter s analysis of the Revolution, he divides it into four different timeframes: the Early Years
(1962 66), the Red Years (1966 68), the Black Years (1968 71), ... Show more content on

In the novel We by Yevgeny Zamyatin, there is a dystopian society called the One State meant to be a
fictional representation of Soviet Russia, i.e. the U.S.S.R. One of the One State s goals in the novel
was to surgically remove the part of the brain responsible for imagination so that all humans in the
One State would become a uniform collective capable of efficient machine like labor. This was called
the Great Operation and the people of the One State were given a published message on the front page
of the One State Gazette which said, You are perfect. You are machinelike. The road to one hundred
per cent happiness is free. Hurry, then, everyone old and young hurry to submit to the Great Operation
(Zamyatin 180). In the One State, the government and its people believed that they must rid
themselves of identity and become a single all encompassing machine, and this desire become more
stronger as rumors of a revolution was stirring up. Although Zamyatin s story is very fictional, it is
eerily similar to China s Cultural Revolution and Red Guards. After China had gotten rid of all older
ideas, the country was transforming into a uniform communist resistance against capitalism, and they
also tried to flush out counter revolutions to also protect the country from alternate thought. To be put

Argumentative Essay On Boxing And Women
The sport of boxing is the epitome of masculinity. With its largely aggressive and physical nature and
high injury rate, it is no surprise that author Joyce Carol Oates, in her collection of boxing essays,
states, boxing is for men, and is about men, and is men (72). In refuting of this claim, women have
been partaking in the sport of boxing since the eighteenth century ( van Ingen Kovacs, 2012). Women
have made great advances to enter the world of combat sports. However, research shows that they are
not shown the same amount of respect that their male counterparts receive due to the attention paid
towards their femininity instead of their passion for the sport.
Because of the high degree of physicality involved, many people have wondered if women even
possess the aggression needed for the sport and if they can perform to the same level of prowess as the
boxing greats Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier once did (Beki, 2013). Women and girls are given the
stereotypes of submissive, compliant, unassertive, and sensitive and are therefore lacking in the basic
qualities assigned to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The female sports that do receive the most coverage are the feminine sports and those females that do
not adhere to those standards do not receive the same amount of attention (Krane, 2001). Women have
found that they tend to receive more attention when they are being sexualized (van Ingen Kovacs,
2012; Lindner, 2012; Krane et al, 2004). The female athletes were aware that their uniforms were
perceived as sexy and thus garnered male attention. To reduce their feeling of the male gaze, the

Social Contradictions Of Poverty
Poverty does not solely pertain to individuals without the money to sustain themselves. Rather,
poverty refers to the conditions of individuals or groups of people who only possess limited means to
have and raise their children, care for their loved ones, maintain households, or contribute to their
communities. In Contradictions of Capital and Care, Nancy Fraser identifies these social needs as the
key capacities of social reproduction that are necessary for culture, political organization, and the
creation of self expanding value via economic production. Individuals lose these social capacities due
to the contradiction between economic production and social reproduction that is inherent in
capitalism; once these capacities are lost, individuals remain stuck in the cycle of poverty because of
their limited abilities within the existing societal structures and hierarchies that subjugate them. The
only way to significantly reduce and eventually end poverty is thus to restructure society, so that social
reproduction and economic production are no longer contradictory and are recognized as inter
dependent spheres.
While poverty has numerous causes that create and reinforce it, the central cause of poverty is the
contradiction between social reproduction and economic production. In capitalist society, economic
production outweighs social reproduction, simply because economic production brings in money,
which is what gives individuals purchasing power and the ability to

The cold stores cost is approximately £500000 p.a. to run, but excess capacity can be hired out to
other non competing firms.
The requirement of meeting the sometimes uniquely specific requirements of customers has been
causing Derrick s management some serious headaches recently. They recognize the importance of a
client focused approach to marketing and distribution, but are beginning to feel that they are being
exploited by some customers who are never satisfied with the level of service provided, however
extensive it may be and this is costing them a lot of money.
So, to analyze the current situation we will form a BCG matrix and recommend decision on its results.
BCG matrix will help us to examine distributors in he company s portfolio on the basis of their related
market share and industry growth rates.
In other words, it is a comparative analysis of business potential and the evaluation of environment.
According to this matrix, business could be classified as high or low according to their industry

New Orleans
Have you ever been somewhere that you would go to that place every day of your life? Well that place
for me is New Orleans! I went to New Orleans two years ago with my volleyball team for nationals. It
was super fun and exciting to see an amazing place. New Orleans is definitely my favorite place to
travel. They have very fun things there to do and very good places to eat. When I arrived in New
Orleans the first thing we did was go to Jackson Square. It was a place where you could go shopping
or look around everywhere. They had little booths within Jackson Square. The booths had either
fortune tellers or mind readers. They would tell you your future and what is going to happen or what
might happen to you. They would also tell you what you were thinking at the moment or what has
happened to you in the past. Another cool thing there was henna tattoos. This girl named Jenna was
doing it and her booth was called Henna by Jenna. There were many more booths around there too,

My Mother
At the request of this prompt (A), I have concluded that the person whom I truly admire, whom I am
most inspired as well as most influenced by is ultimately my Mother. I came to this conclusion as my
Mother represents an immense purpose, that strength and beauty can arise from struggles, that one in
hard times can arise to succeed. My Mother s life story symbolizes one of many morals and life
learning themes that it was her struggle and hardships that gave her beauty. My mother had
experienced a lot of difficulties in the process of growing up, either due to her polish or American
experience. Yet my mother s story exclaims that if she hadn t experienced a life in vain, then she
would not have been the person she is today. My Mother had shown me that hardships and struggles
ultimately make you whom you are, as I must face and look past turbulence and obstacles, which
block me from the light and success. I, Giovanni Dama, believe that my mother is whom I truly
admire above many. I in firmly intend to follow my mother s ideals and her attitude of strength and
glory, to never give up in any scenario, no matter what challenges I must reach and be greater than.
My mother, Anna Dama, had experienced a path of hardships as my mother came to America for hope
and opportunity. My mother had migrated to the united states of America as her father and siblings
have already done so. Yet, my had came here tan age of 20 years old, making the relocation to
America an ultimate challenge.

his life. Then at the age Twenty Five he was standing on a stage in front of over half of a million
people, who were there to see him. All he was, was a frustrated artist, trying to learn to read music.
Jimi Hendrix was one of the most inspiring and remarkable musicians of the rock era. James Allen

The Derogatory Effects Of Pride On Human Life
The derogatory effects of pride on human life is an idea that runs through William Shakespeare s play
Julius Caesar. Caesar himself is consumed by pride, and the way that others treat him only reinforces
his idea that his is the strongest man in the world, and certainly the only man fit to lead Rome. Caesar
s ambition, which was caused by his pride, convinces Brutus that, despite his love for Caesar, Caesar
would only hurt Rome, and therefore must die. More than that, however, Caesar s pride directly causes
his downfall. Throughout Julius Caesar, Shakespeare shows the audience how Caesar s pride blinds
him to signs and omens that would otherwise cause him worry. Soothsayers in Ancient Rome were
very well respected. The words of a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The audience can assume that his pride is the main reason that he ignored the soothsayer s words.
Caesar, as evident by his prompt dismissal of a man warning him of his own demise, sees himself as
above the common folk, and above the influence of the fates. This trait, which he exhibits on several
occasions, eventually leads to his end.
Similar to how soothsayers had a very significant role in Roman society, dreams also played a large
part in the daily lives of Roman citizens. On the eve of the ides of March, Calphurnia has a nightmare
foreshadowing Caesar s inevitable assassination. According to Caesar, Nor heaven nor earth have been
at peace tonight/Thrice hath Calphurnia in her sleep cried out/ Help, ho! They murder Caesar! (JC
2.2.1 3). He recognizes the strangeness of the events that are going on, but he seems to not accept
them. Despite this, he still has a servant contact priests to decide his course for the day. In saying this
he is showing apprehension about the strange omens, and is attempting to take precautionary measures
against bad luck. However, despite this seeming change of heart, a few lines later Caesar has already
made up his mind to approach the day as if these omens had never happened. In his mind, nothing can
harm him. He makes this clear by saying The things that threatened me/Ne er looked but on my back.
When they shall see/The face of Caesar, they are vanished. (JC 2.2.10 12). He, despite these bad

Sustainable Growth And Sustainable Development
Sustainable development. A concept that has only recently become highlighted and pursued by the
international community. In a country like Nigeria, there is focus on economic growth on the
sustaining of their people, not the interest of the environment, however this trend is beginning to
change as the country is moving toward a future of power from alternative sources, such as solar
power and wind power (Our Objectives, n.d.). Sustainable development, according to the Brundtland
Report, meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to the
meet their own needs. (IISD) The United Nations has been at the forefront of this drive for a more
sustainable, namely with the adoption of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which highlight
not only environmental aspects, but also societal (human right based) (e.g. No Poverty, focus on
Gender Inequality). Prior to the creation of the SDGs, were the Millennial Development Goals
(MDGs) during the beginning of the 21st Century, which eventually became the SDGs. The SDGs
implemented several new points that seemingly filled the gaps , so to speak, left by the MDGs. These
goals were adopted in September of 2015 with an expected fruition date of 2030 (Madeley 2015).
The issue being addressed is the path of countries in their quest for growth and sustainable
development, as a result. For many, there is a shared sentiment that developing countries should not be
put in a position to where they are

  • 2. The Pros And Disadvantages Of Modern Test Taking Will Powers Dr. Lenore English 100 26 October, 2017 Modern Test Taking There have been many studies done to figure out which of the many testing styles allow students to both retain more information and help elevate some of the pre exam stress, while at the same time not putting too much work on the professor. Out of all the styles that have been tested, two of the most common styles that constantly rival each other are the open book test vs. the closed book tests. Many teachers still cling to the traditional closed books test. A closed book test is a test where students are expected to study their note before a test is given and try their very best to memorize everything that they can fit into their heads in order to successfully pass the test, then go into the exam with nothing but the pencil in their hand and the test on their desk. An open book test, is a test that allows students to bring either their notes or something that can be written on such as a sheet of paper or a note card that was given to the student before the exam. Both of these exam types have a wide range of both advantages and disadvantages. One of the most common disadvantages that is often mentioned for closed book exams is the fact that as far as the real world is concerned, closed book test are unrealistic. For many subjects the idea of doing a task with nothing but the sole information in someone s head would be seen as not only absurd but actually careless. An example of this absurdity and ... • 3. The Probability Of Picking A Starfish Instruct Many students get confused when learning about fractions. At our grade level we teach about parts of a whole, equal shares, and partitioning. 1. Starfish, shark, whale and dolphin probability: The probability of picking a starfish will equal the number of starfish (3) divided by the total number (10). Therefore, the probability of the student picking a starfish is 3/10. The probability of picking a shark will be 3 sharks out of 10. This equals 3/10 The probability of whales will be 3/10 and the probability of dolphins will be 1/10. 2. How are the probabilities affected if each student replaces his or her sea animal after picking it? When a student replaces their sea animal, nothing will change. On the first pull, the probability of getting a starfish is 3/10, because there are 10 sea animals and 3 of them are starfish. If that starfish is replaced (put back in the fishpond), the probability for the second pull is still 3/10, and that means the events are independent. The result of one trial does not affect the result of another. Probabilities remain the same. 3. Select one of the sea animals. Give an example of how the probabilities are changed if that sea animal is replaced or not replaced after a student picks it out of the fishpond. Suppose a student picks out a sea animal at random from the fish pond, then replaces it and a second animal is chosen. If replaced, the probability of choosing a starfish and then a dolphin is; P(Starfish)= 3/10 P(dolphin)= ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Jane Austen s The Lighthouse By Virginia Woolf And Pride... People imprint themselves on their surroundings; they inject fleeting moments into the veins of their environments, boiling the blood that swims hot through every crevice, echoing and lingering indefinitely. According to Wisker houses are the principal locations where the presence of its residents leave lasting imprints on the structure (2011, 4). Novels To The Lighthouse by Virginia Woolf and Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen both use domestic environments as important sites to emphasise and reflect their characters by deploying the literary techniques of language and style from their respective eras. Woolf as a Modernist writer from the early twentieth century uses experimental techniques and the supernatural genre that was prevalent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Ramsey Summer House remains abandoned during those ten years, decaying slowly, groaning and weeping as it remembers the tenants it once possessed and the movements they made how once hands were busy with hooks and buttons; how once the looking glass had held a face; had held a world hollowed out in which a figure turned, a hand flashed, the door opened, in came children rushing and tumbling; and went out again (Woolf 1927, 339). The house bore witness to every breath and every argument; it absorbed fluttering eyelashes, clapped hands, and footsteps; drowned in laughter and in tears; the house was enraptured by the Ramsey s and remembers them fondly as their images haunt its halls (Wisker 2011, 6). Each moment the Ramsey s spent in the house becomes infinite in its memory as the house has absorbed every second they existed there from all perspective imaginable (Hunter 2004, 32). The House asks will you fade? Will you perish? (Woolf 1927, 339) as it deteriorates, questing the memories that resonate and pulsate through its corridors as well as its mortality. Animals and plants brought life to the stagnant house once again, morphing into the memory of the Ramsey s as they nestled amongst their abandoned possessions (Woolf 1927, 345). • 5. Essay on The Kite Runner Relationship and Symbolism How does Hosseini use symbolism in The Kite Runner to present key relationships? You should consider different reader responses and the extent to which your critical approach assists your interpretation. In Khaled Hosseini s novel, The Kite Runner , it is often thought that symbols and metaphors are used as visual representations to reinforce and put emphasis on important stages in the novel. In can be seen that symbols are used in the novel to highlight particular moments in key relationships. For example Kites, the Pomegranate tree, Scars and the Slingshot are each used to put emphasis on specific moments in the relationships between Amir and Hassan and Amir and Baba. Through using symbolism and metaphor to present these key ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At the end of the novel, the roles are swapped. Amir acts as the kite runner, whereas Sorhab (Hassan s son who represents Hassan at this point) is the kite flyer. This could be symbolic of Amir completing his journey of redemption and him re establishing his relationship with Hassan. In particular, I feel that in chapter 7, the Blue Kite is used as a symbol of Hassan s loyalty towards Amir. Hassan will not give up the blue kite which he ran for Amir after winning the kite tournament, even when he is faced with rape as he is afraid that giving up the kite will jeopardize his friendship with Amir. This could be seen as symbolic of the protection and dedication which Hassan shows towards Amir. The blue kite is an object which is in between Hassan and Assef in chapter seven, in the same way that in chapter five, Amir is in between Hassan and Assef. Hassan won t let the blue kite get torn or damaged by Assef in the same way that he wouldn t let Assef hurt Amir in chapter 5, in my opinion the blue kite is clearly a symbol of Hassan s dedication and devotion towards Amir; he would rather endure rape than disappoint him. Secondly the Pomegranate tree can be seen as a symbol of Amir and Hassan friendship, childhood innocence and shelter. The tree is presented to the reader in two different states. When the tree appears in the first part of the story, in chapter 4, the tree is shown as being fruitful and blooming with blood red ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Forgiveness In The Rime Of The Ancyent Marinere To earn forgiveness for a crime and claim redemption, one must endure a punishment and then show love to the one whom he has wronged. This concept ties into the moral in the poem entitled: The Rime Of The Ancyent Marinere, by Samuel Coleridge. The epic tackles themes of crime, punishment and redemption. At first glance, the piece does not appear to follow a coherent pattern; however, through close reading, a hidden logic appears behind the overwhelming chaos of the piece. He prayeth well who loveth well/ Both man and bird and beast (Rime 1797,VII. 645 646) is a sentiment that holds great importance for a general bettering of humanity. This moral emphasizes that to have a good life, one must balance spirituality and love. Forgiveness within ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 27 28). Taking this voyage is what aids the Marinere in learning this structure of crime, punishment, and redemption. Through his experience, the Marinere gains the appreciation he holds for all beings, He prayeth well who loveth well/ Both man and bird and beast (VII. 645 646). The following line is given immediately after to ensure the reader latches onto the importance of the moral. He prayeth best who loveth best/ All things both great and small: (VII. 647 648). This outlook is not possible earlier because the Marinere has no experiential context for these ideas; however, his experience of dropping below the known, gives him access to the sublime. He experiences an expanse that has obscure and terrifying qualities which evoke the sublime (Burke 35 37). Many instances of sublimity are in events and characters throughout the poem. For instance, the storm that blew the ship about like Chaff (I. 48), is an event, which is terrifying. The ice figures that are many and varied portray the obscurity of the sublime (I. 55). Ice surrounds the Marinere s ship showing the power that nature constantly maintains over man, The Ice was here, the Ice was there,/ The Ice was all around (I. 57 58). This introduces yet another aspect and perspective of the sublime. For the Marinere, the act of physically moving into a space so unknown and seemingly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Alexander Graham Bell Has Changed The Way Our World Alexander Graham Bell Have you ever thought about life what life was like when communication was hard? If you were far away from someone you would either have to write or walk, and both of those would take a long time to get a message somewhere. The introduction of the telephone changed the way our world worked. If you have used a phone anytime in your life, and almost everyone has, you need to thank the creator, Alexander Graham Bell. Alexander Graham Bell has changed the way our world works, thanks to his many famous and important inventions. On March 3, 1847 in Edinburgh, Scotland, Alexander Bell, the teacher of the deaf and Scottish born American inventor was born. Alexander s middle name Graham was not added until he was about ten years old. He added his middle name because he also wanted one like his brothers. His father gave him his middle name as his birthday present. He was the middle child and both of his brothers passed away from tuberculosis later in his life. Tuberculosis is a fatal disease that attacks the lungs. His grandfather was an elocution professor and his father was an expert on elocution and the mechanics of the voice. • 9. Continuous Quality Improvement In Nursing Continuous quality improvement is a philosophy that encourages a healthcare team to continuously ask: How are we doing? and Can we do it better? More specifically, can we do it more efficiently? Can we be more effective? Can we do it faster? Can we do it in a more timely way? Continuous improvement begins with a culture of improvement for the patient, the practice, and the population in general (NLC, 2013). Having a continuous quality improvement initiative is a to construct a design to tackle an evaluation of a current procedure being used and improving the process to be able to attain a desired outcome. • 10. 30thbrigade Research Paper The 30thbrigade was originally the 6th brigade located in Fort Bliss, which moved to Fort Sill in 2010. It was switched over in May 18, 2012. The reason for the change was because Col. Bill Stacy was wanting to get a new set of colors. Since there was an upcoming parade, he wanted the colors to be standing out. The Center of Military History, informed him that there was no set of colors or that they didn t have any colors for them. Due to the fact that they didn t have any direct link to any wartime unit. • 11. Paper About Turkeys I believe the short film was made for a fun informative. The videographer took advantage of an unusual topic and made the story interesting. The main point of the story was to show an average neighborhood s day interrupted by random turkeys, leaving the neighborhood in astonishment. The videographer demonstrates the story from the resident s point of view but mostly the woman s point of view. I think that was the case because of how the woman was so delighted about the entire situation. The story engages the audience by bringing curiosity of how the turkeys got there in the first place and what are the turkeys going to do afterwards. Correspondingly, the videographer captures a long shot of the turkeys walking out of the shot towards the pole. This video for starters, does a good job of establishing the setting of the neighborhood with a sequence of a few basics shots. In the beginning the viewers notices the long shot of the plane and the houses, a close up of the branch, and a cut away of the American flag. Voice overs are important to the story by showing whoever is speaking at the time, what they are doing. It basically creates a better understanding. I personally thought it was cool how the videographer got a high shot for the ending of the video of the turkeys walking away. When being a kid in school it is all about getting the newest phone, wearing the most expensive clothing and every other materialized thing, to show off how much money we have. Before the financial crises in 2008 every family lent money to buy new things all the time. No worries were to be shown in any family, until the crack happened. From this view the kids seems rather ungrateful and rude to their father and we don t see their side of the story. It seems like everyone is against Mike and that no one is happy about Mike working hard to delight his family. On the contrary it would look rather different if it had been from the wife or kids point of view. The title The Decline of the West can be a directly reference to the western worlds economic problems. This theme is clear throughout the short story, where especially Mike thinks about his choice of lifestyle that he and many others have had through many years. He considers whether the financial crises can be the punishment for this: Like many people, Mike had also worried whether the present catastrophe was punishment for years of extravagance and self indulgence. (p. 4, l. 86 87) Another thing to notice about the short story is how values like love, closeness and indulgence is nowhere to be found. And the title can therefore be related to moral degeneration, which Mike s family is an example of. The title can be a critical comment on the western worlds excessive focus on money at the expense of more important thing like family and Mike is actually thinking about the Marxism prediction, which affects him personally: Since capitalism was cracking under the weight of its contradictions as the Marxists has predicted ... they would have to find a ... There is still controversy on the outcome of this method. 110,000 layers have been counted in the Antarctic sheet and have been claimed by some that these are annual layers. With its largely aggressive and physical nature and high injury rate, it is no surprise that author Joyce Carol Oates, in her collection of boxing essays, states, boxing is for men, and is about men, and is men (72). In refuting of this claim, women have been partaking in the sport of boxing since the eighteenth century ( van Ingen Kovacs, 2012). Women have made great advances to enter the world of combat sports. However, research shows that they are not shown the same amount of respect that their male counterparts receive due to the attention paid towards their femininity instead of their passion for the sport. Because of the high degree of physicality involved, many people have wondered if women even possess the aggression needed for the sport and if they can perform to the same level of prowess as the boxing greats Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier once did (Beki, 2013). • 29. Social Contradictions Of Poverty Poverty does not solely pertain to individuals without the money to sustain themselves. Rather, poverty refers to the conditions of individuals or groups of people who only possess limited means to have and raise their children, care for their loved ones, maintain households, or contribute to their communities. In Contradictions of Capital and Care, Nancy Fraser identifies these social needs as the key capacities of social reproduction that are necessary for culture, political organization, and the creation of self expanding value via economic production. Individuals lose these social capacities due to the contradiction between economic production and social reproduction that is inherent in capitalism; once these capacities are lost, individuals remain stuck in the cycle of poverty because of their limited abilities within the existing societal structures and hierarchies that subjugate them. The only way to significantly reduce and eventually end poverty is thus to restructure society, so that social reproduction and economic production are no longer contradictory and are recognized as inter dependent spheres. While poverty has numerous causes that create and reinforce it, the central cause of poverty is the contradiction between social reproduction and economic production. In capitalist society, economic production outweighs social reproduction, simply because economic production brings in money, which is what gives individuals purchasing power and the ability to ... • 31. New Orleans Have you ever been somewhere that you would go to that place every day of your life? Well that place for me is New Orleans! I went to New Orleans two years ago with my volleyball team for nationals. It was super fun and exciting to see an amazing place. New Orleans is definitely my favorite place to travel. They have very fun things there to do and very good places to eat. When I arrived in New Orleans the first thing we did was go to Jackson Square. It was a place where you could go shopping or look around everywhere. They had little booths within Jackson Square. The booths had either fortune tellers or mind readers. They would tell you your future and what is going to happen or what might happen to you. They would also tell you what you were thinking at the moment or what has happened to you in the past. Another cool thing there was henna tattoos. This girl named Jenna was doing it and her booth was called Henna by Jenna. There were many more booths around there too, but those were some of the ones I thought were cool. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 32. My Mother At the request of this prompt (A), I have concluded that the person whom I truly admire, whom I am most inspired as well as most influenced by is ultimately my Mother. I came to this conclusion as my Mother represents an immense purpose, that strength and beauty can arise from struggles, that one in hard times can arise to succeed. My Mother s life story symbolizes one of many morals and life learning themes that it was her struggle and hardships that gave her beauty. My mother had experienced a lot of difficulties in the process of growing up, either due to her polish or American experience. Yet my mother s story exclaims that if she hadn t experienced a life in vain, then she would not have been the person she is today. My Mother had shown me that hardships and struggles ultimately make you whom you are, as I must face and look past turbulence and obstacles, which block me from the light and success. I, Giovanni Dama, believe that my mother is whom I truly admire above many. I in firmly intend to follow my mother s ideals and her attitude of strength and glory, to never give up in any scenario, no matter what challenges I must reach and be greater than. My mother, Anna Dama, had experienced a path of hardships as my mother came to America for hope and opportunity. My mother had migrated to the united states of America as her father and siblings have already done so. Yet, my had came here tan age of 20 years old, making the relocation to America an ultimate challenge. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 35. The Derogatory Effects Of Pride On Human Life The derogatory effects of pride on human life is an idea that runs through William Shakespeare s play Julius Caesar. Caesar himself is consumed by pride, and the way that others treat him only reinforces his idea that his is the strongest man in the world, and certainly the only man fit to lead Rome. Caesar s ambition, which was caused by his pride, convinces Brutus that, despite his love for Caesar, Caesar would only hurt Rome, and therefore must die. More than that, however, Caesar s pride directly causes his downfall. Throughout Julius Caesar, Shakespeare shows the audience how Caesar s pride blinds him to signs and omens that would otherwise cause him worry. Soothsayers in Ancient Rome were very well respected. The words of a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The audience can assume that his pride is the main reason that he ignored the soothsayer s words. Caesar, as evident by his prompt dismissal of a man warning him of his own demise, sees himself as above the common folk, and above the influence of the fates. This trait, which he exhibits on several occasions, eventually leads to his end. Similar to how soothsayers had a very significant role in Roman society, dreams also played a large part in the daily lives of Roman citizens. On the eve of the ides of March, Calphurnia has a nightmare foreshadowing Caesar s inevitable assassination. • 36. Sustainable Growth And Sustainable Development Sustainable development. A concept that has only recently become highlighted and pursued by the international community. In a country like Nigeria, there is focus on economic growth on the sustaining of their people, not the interest of the environment, however this trend is beginning to change as the country is moving toward a future of power from alternative sources, such as solar power and wind power (Our Objectives, n.d.). Sustainable development, according to the Brundtland Report, meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to the meet their own needs. (IISD) The United Nations has been at the forefront of this drive for a more sustainable, namely with the adoption of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which highlight not only environmental aspects, but also societal (human right based) (e.g. No Poverty, focus on Gender Inequality). Prior to the creation of the SDGs, were the Millennial Development Goals (MDGs) during the beginning of the 21st Century, which eventually became the SDGs. The SDGs implemented several new points that seemingly filled the gaps , so to speak, left by the MDGs. These goals were adopted in September of 2015 with an expected fruition date of 2030 (Madeley 2015). The issue being addressed is the path of countries in their quest for growth and sustainable development, as a result. For many, there is a shared sentiment that developing countries should not be put in a position to where they are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
