Art is all around us and whether we notice it or not we are always evaluating, deconstructing, and
deciding on if we like it or not. The Garden of Earthly Delights by Hieronymus Bosch is a triptych
done in the Renaissance period. A triptych is a painting or relief carving that has three different
panels and are hinged together side by side. I first came across this paintingin my art history class
in high school and from then on I loved it due to all the imagery, colors, and the overall meaning
that it had. Ever since then this artwork has left a big imprint and got me to think about art as
much more than a picture, but to look at it as a whole and analyze it. This painting always
seemed interesting and intriguing for a couple of reasons. There are many themes going on, the
colors are very monochrome but yet look vivid and life like, and it has a very deep meaning
with the themes of mortality, sin, and shows the end results for evil doings. The triptych has
three different panels and all three have their own story to tell. When the triptych is closed and
both left and right sections are shut you see the world in tones of gray or neutral colors. At the
uppermost left corner of the closed sections you can see a depiction of God looking down at the

Rocking Horse Winner. This story is about a boy who gambles to make money that will make his

The book of Ruth is a book about sacrifice, faith, patience, love, kindness, restoration, and
fruitfulness. The basic literary is narrative and the authorship is believed to be Samuel written
between 1020 1000 BC. The main personalities of this book are Ruth, Naomi, and Boaz. The Book
of Ruth is about how a man named Elimelech takes his wife Naomi and their two sons Mahlon and
Chilion from living in a town known as the house of bread in Bethlehem to the land of Moab on his
own will to escape death. Here the two sons married unequally yoked Moab women by the
names of Orpah and Ruth. All within a decade Naomi loses her husband and two sons to death.
One day Naomi hears that God s favor has returned to Bethlehem and that food is available so
Naomi decides to return. Not too far into the journey back to Bethlehem, accompanied by Orpah
and Ruth, Naomi tells Orpah and Ruth to return to Moab but Ruth decides to continue with Naomi
and follow God. Upon their arrival, the whole town was in a frenzy at the return of Naomi. When

A Memorable Person
What makes someone special, important, and memorable is judged by people differently. In my
personal opinion, what makes a person memorable is how he or she has impacted your life, for
better or for worse. I decided to deviate from the obvious choice of a dear family member or an

My friend Oniqa Urmi. Oniqa enriches the lives of those around her, understands people where
others fail to, and is unforgettable to anyone who has the privilege to know her. To begin, I met
Oniqa about 5 years ago during my freshman year of high school. It was our first class of
Physical Education in the gym playing volleyball. After some instructions from our teacher
broke the class up into partners, and surprise my partner was Oniqa. Both of us were extremely
shy, quiet, and didn t talk much during the 45 minutes we spent hitting a ball back and forth.
Luckily our friendship didn t with second period PE. With time we became good friends. In
reality, the first day we met wasn t the start to the typical friendship. Looking back, we were an
unlikely pairing that without realizing it had many similarities and experiences. Despite our
somewhat awkward first encounter, the following years spent getting to know each other better I
