2. Analysis Of The Movie Truman Show
What would you feel like if you found out that your whole life was fake and it was all for television?
The Truman Show is a film where a man for his whole life has been filmed for the entertainment of
others and doesn t even realize that he is on camera at all times. There are a few scenes that will be
discussed whether the scene is able to provide a religious experience.
The Truman Show is about a man named Truman Burbank. Before he was even born a large
corporation adopted him to use as the main character for their television show. Throughout the movie,
Truman slowly starts to notice that things seem a little odd and that the world around him doesn t
make sense. By the end of the movie, he knows that his life is fake even though no one told him at the
time that his world is fake.
The first scene that we will be looking at is the very first scene of the movie. In the scene we see a
man talking to us. He is the director of The Truman Show, he talks about how while the world around
Truman is fake Truman s emotions are real and genuine and that nothing about Truman is fake in any
way. Since the director created and runs the television show he can be seen as the holy or divine
because he created this world and can control every aspect of it. This scene asks the questions is there
a higher being. The director can be seen as a godly figure because he controls the environment and the
actions of everyone around Truman. Since everyone are actors on a tv show then that means that all

3. The Civil Rights Movement from 1954 to 1968 Essay
It was a hard time, and for many black persons, it seemed as if all the broken promises of
Reconstruction were epitomized in the actions of the Supreme Court of the United States. Ever since
the 1870 s, the Court had been eviscerating the congressional legislation and constitutional
amendments that had been established at the height of Reconstruction to protect some of the basic
citizenship rights of black people. 1954 was a new time and more than tears and words were needed.
Just about everyone that was black and alive at the time realized that the long, hard struggles, led by
the NAACP, had forced the Supreme Court to take a major stand on the side of justice in the Brown v.
Board of Education of Topeka decision. We ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Martin Luther King Jr. becomes leader of the 12 ½ month boycott. In November of 1956, the U.S.
Supreme Court rules the Montgomery s segregated bus system is unconstitutional. Although the
Brown ruling of 1954 was a unanimous decision, the American public s reactions to it varied greatly.
In the North, where segregated schooling was not a matter of public policy, blacks viewed the decision
as a victory for equality. Most whites in Northern states felt that the decision had little meaning for
them. In the South, however, many whites viewed the Court s decision as an intrusion of the federal
government into their way of life. Southerner s pointed out that the North, too, was segregated. Black
people in the South were profoundly affected by the court decision. Many felt for the first time that the
government might be on their side, and that it might now be possible to throw off years of oppression.
But a year passed before the Court delivered its instructions on just how school desegregation was to
be implemented. When the Court s directions in what has to be known as Brown II were summarized
in the phrase with all deliberate speed, many black people were disappointed and felt that the
government would not support desegregation. In 1957, the Little Rock School Board decides to admit
nine black students to its Central High School. The Governor calls out the National Guard

4. Identify Your Strengths At Work
Finding your passion is a process that works from the inside out. Getting to know your likes and
dislikes allows you to pick jobs that complement your strengths. However, if we don t know ourselves
well enough to identify those strengths we may need to look at what we do for a living to see what we
are good at. Strengths usually become strengths because we spend a lot of time in that area, and we
normally only invest time in areas we are passionate about. Let s look at an example analyzed a
strength I found by analyzing my roles and behaviors at work. I m here because I believe in you! I
said. If you want something bad enough, and you push yourself hard enough, you will achieve it! the
students gawked at me. My voice weaved high and low as I stood in front of my third grade students.
They began to clap at the end of my speech on respect and perseverance, and wanted to reach my
expectations. You will know when you have tapped into your passion because others will respond to
your energy. Another way to identify your strength at work is by paying attention to the compliments
you receive from coworkers. Think of an area where many of your co workers come to you for help. Is
it for advice about how to solve a conflict? About how to fix a specific machine part? Or for
proofreading an email? Your strengths in these areas are not by chance. ... Show more content on

5. Summary OfThe Haunted Palace By Edgar Allan Poe
Dear Edgar Allan Poe, I feel your poem The Haunted Palace is a very strongly written poem with an
extremely dark twist. Your use of metaphors, symbolism, alliteration, stanzas and rhyme scheme
makes this poem an interesting read. With some language you use, it makes it somewhat hard to read
in some areas but the rhyming helps to understand those words. Throughout most of the poem you use
an ABAB rhyme scheme, along with the use of a slant rhyme. The way you are able spin words makes
a very fun read. The title of this particular poem is a foreshadow of the sinister twist that you are well
known for. In the first few lines, the poem seems to speak about a beautiful palace, which is
uncommon in your works. Such as line three once a fair and stately place . Using words like fair and
stately gives the reader a sense of peace and being at ease. Also with lines nine and ten banners
yellow, glorious, golden, on its roof did float and flow supplies an image of a beautiful palace in the
greenest of valleys (line 1). This puts an image in my mind of a fairy tale esque land. The King or
monarch is introduced in line five, as to which the voice of the person telling the story gives the name
Thought . So now we have the idea of this king and a beautiful palace placed into our minds. To me it
feels even more so as a fairy tale having a powerful King and his beautiful palace. The voice of the
poem gives me a feeling that the King is loved by his people. As with the name

Nearly all people had the occasion of going to Disney World whether they went annually as a young

Nevertheless, if I was offered a rare and golden opportunity such as this, then I would be eager to have

7. Success Factors For The Success
This article is going to be focused on success factors, but it is going to be a little different. It s not
going to look at the success factors for life in general, but instead of each individual aspect of life. I
want you to take a look at the success factors for all areas of your life and get some inspiration to
make your life really work for you and your happiness which is what I think it is all about. What Are
Success Factors For Peace Of Mind? Having a sense of peace is the ultimate reward in life. You don t
have to scramble. You don t have to worry. You don t have to live in a negative state. You just have to
be alive. But how can we have that kind of peace? Focusing on being instead of getting is the best way
to have a peace of mind. When you focus on being, and live in a mindful state, you are not worrying
about what you don t have, what is going to happen, what could go wrong, and all those other things
that disturb your peace of mind. Therefore, success factors for peace of mind include: Enjoying what
you have right now Trusting the moment and the people in it Knowing who you are and staying true to
that instead of trying to figure out who you are or pretend Keeping your awareness open to let you
become even better Removing limiting beliefs that keep you stuck in a state of anxiety Focusing on

The Advance of eBusiness
A major societal change that has resulted from the web is the proliferation of businesses on the web
(eBusiness). Businesses on the web can be classified into two types: those who have physical stores
outside of the web (like Gap) and those that were created for the sole purpose of functioning through
the web (like eBay). According to Marshall McLuhan, in his book Understanding Media: The
Extensions of Man, once a new technology comes in a social milieu it cannot cease to permeate that
milieu until every institution is saturated (241). I believe this is exactly what the web has done to
American and international societies. The web has saturated nearly every aspect of life including

Instead, a consumer can order items in the comfort of one s home. I believe this feature aids
individuals who are in remote places, such as small towns that do not have specific retail stores, within
reasonable driving distance. In addition, disabled persons who have difficulty traveling to stores can
shop in comfort at home, as long as the web site is compliant to disabled people. Lastly, when
shopping on the web, there is no sales tax. Even though shipping costs are added, they are sometimes
minimal or even free. From personal experience, I have learned that I can often buy an item online and
pay shipping, as it is cheaper than buying the item from a nearby store.
Negative Aspects of eBusiness
Although there are many positive aspects to having businesses on the web, negative consequences also
exist. To begin, the web is not accessible to all people. From my personal experience from technical
editing last semester, I learned that all web sites should strive to be American Disabilities Act (ADA)
compliant. Many individuals who are visually or hearing impaired cannot communicate with ease on
the web. While disabled individuals may have trouble using the web, advertising also causes potential
problems for an abundance of users. While all businesses have a common goal to make a profit,
advertising is important to promote sales. Advertising on the web has become annoying to many
people, and

LONG DISTANCE TRADE AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT Many countries in the 15th
century were isolated from communication with outsiders from other countries, thus preventing
introduction of new ideas that would encourage either growth or change. They were bound by old
traditions that were hard to ignore but this also created a situation whereby these countries were
literally bursting at the seam for new ideas and growth. Finally ignoring years of isolationism, Chinese
and European hierarchies slowly began financing various expeditions seeking not only to become
trading partners with other countries, but also looking for new territories to explore and settle. These

Eventually, things began to change in China and it wasn t long before China became the first country
to develop paper money, sophisticated brokerage practices and banking institutions. There were a
number of factors that drove this; first there was the huge size of China itself. Other factors were the
difficulties involved in long distance trade using metal currencies and the minor role of the
government in regulating the economy. China also used a tribute system as the basis for trade and
restricted access of foreign traders to Chinese markets, particularly by limiting them to specified ports
under controls established by the central government. Under the Qianlong Emperor, the western
companies were limited specifically to Canton where they could have contact only with officially
designated firms, or Hong. On the other side of the world, trade significantly influenced the course of
history in West Africa (A). All the wealth made through trade was used to build larger kingdoms and
empires and to protect their trade interests, these kingdoms built strong armies. Kingdoms that desired
more control of the trade also developed strong armies to expand their kingdoms and protect them
from their competition. Long distance trade helped the local economy and also supported internal

Although there is a distinction between euthanasia and death with dignity, the purpose of both is to
end one s unbearable pain and suffering.
The act of euthanasia has negative connotations that stem from a history of genocide. Nazi Germany is
an illustrious example of this deed. Using cyanide gas, the Germans exterminated a large portion of
the Jewish population. Contrary to popular opinion, genocide is not limited to the past. The atrocities
of this practice resurfaced a multitude of times, such as in the civil war, in Rwanda, as well as the
conflict in Darfur. Social conditions in all of these countries contributed towards conflict and crisis
situations resulting in the onset of social control. Genocide, often viewed as a deviant action, is also a
type of social control. The casualties of these wars were not permitted to die with their dignity. Their
deaths, indeed, did engender suffering. In these cases, the affected individuals experienced both active
and non voluntary euthanasia.
History provides valuable lessons. Learning about the suffering of others affords us the opportunity to
take action to prevent the possibility of reoccurrence. Karen Quinlan is an infamous case from the
1970 s. This woman was in a persistent vegetative state sustained by life support. Her family
petitioned the court to withdraw the ventilator machine, allowing her the right to die with dignity. The

17. The And Measurement Of Leases
Recognition and measurement of leases is an important part of accounting for leasing. Many
companies and organizations rely on leasing as a means of acquiring assets without actually owning
the asset. Companies often lease land and buildings, company vehicles like trucks for construction,
and equipment for manufacturing or a business; like computers, copiers, and printers. Leasing allows
for companies to stay in the game when it comes to new technology, so that when new technology
comes out, companies will be able to start a new lease with new equipment. While leasing is a popular
way of acquiring assets, it s possible that companies and organization will pay more money for a lease
then if the asset had been purchased. Leasing of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Finally, three more additional criteria that IFRS has that U.S. GAAP does not includes, the leased
asset being of specialized nature such that only the lessee can use it without major modifications being
made, the lessor s losses are borne by the lessee upon cancellation, and finally, gains or losses from
changes in the fair value of the residual value go to the lessee. For example, a rent rebate that equals
most of the sales earnings at the end of the lease (IASPlus.com).
Comparing recognition and measurement rules for IFRS and GAAP with each other will give a clear
understanding of how both sides deal with leasing issues. To begin with, when it comes to lease
classification under IFRS, lease classification and initial accounting for leases are determined at the
initiation of the lease (IAS 17.13). The date that is used to determine the initiation lease is the earliest
date between the lease agreement and the date of commitment to the lease (IAS 17.4). U.S. GAAP
says that the lease term begins on the date the lessee takes possession or is given jurisdiction of the
leased property, even if that date doesn t involve any payments being made. The lease begins as soon
as operations begin. Therefore, for accounting purposes, the lease term can begin before the leased
asset even exists (FSP FAS 13 1, fn 1). An example of a lease term that can begin before a leased asset
even exists, would be improvements made to a building or land. When

Mongols Chinggis Khan founded the Mongol Empire in 1206 A.D. this was the rise of nomadic
pastoral societies in the north. The Mongol s established the largest contiguous empire in the Neolithic
era. The Mongol Empire was notable for their military power, their diplomatic protection, and safe
travel. These notable features aided the growth and expansion of the empire. The Mongols conquest
left a trail of blood and destruction. For a century, the Mongol Empire cultivated for the first time East
West contact. I will further discuss the primary sources and secondary sources of the Mongol Empire.
The Mongols encouraged trade and often moved craftsmen and other specialists from one place to
another. Trade was essential to the Mongols, they started issuing a paizi (modern day passports) to
government officials, foreigners they traded with, and the nobles who would travel along the Mongol
territory. The Mongol Empire encouraged a wider distribution of good and idea, so officials made sure
the travel routes were as safe as possible. In addition, commodities such as silk could be purchased at
lower prices because the cost of travel and security decreased. The primary reason for these passports
was to ensure safety along the trade routes of the Mongol empire. The paizi is a metal plaque made of
iron and silver inlay, it had to worn around the neck, so it was visible. The inscription says, by the

There s no argument about it now, global warming exists and is a problem. More and more people are
becoming concerned with greenhouse gases effects on the environment as well as humans effects on
the environment through our carbon footprint. Many activities humans participate in help add to the
greenhouse gases in the atmosphere and increase the size and the effect of the carbon footprint
humanity is leaving behind. The carbon footprint is the amount of carbon the humans create as waste
through many processes such as the burning of fossil fuels and more. Recycling is one of the first
ideas used to combat pollution and greenhouse gas emissions. However, many people still argue
recycling s effectiveness and whether the processes are helping and if the processes are worth the
money. Recycling helps reduce the carbon footprint by reusing multiple types of materials, reducing
greenhouse gas emissions, as well as creating alternative sources of energy. Recycling s main idea is
to reuse materials from past products that were already created and are no longer used or just the
simple reuse of a product the way it is. The recycling of old materials reduces the need to create or
harvest raw materials in which both of those processes release large amounts of greenhouse gases.
Most people know of recycling paper and plastic, but many more types of materials can be reused like
metals and textiles. B. Zamani, M. Svanström, G. Peters, and T. Rydberg (2015) state that the reuse of

21. Human Pollination On Bees
Are we obligated to protect and secure the future of the bees? Humankind tends to take for granted
where our food comes from and do not think twice about it, let alone the process of pollination. The
manner in which we regard the bees not only has an effect on us but, it also affects a multitude of
species. However, we are able to do our part to lessen our negative impact on the bees. If educating
humankind would alleviate suffering of many species such as bees, we would then be obligated to
save the them. Bees are some of the most feared insects on the planet but aside from their sting they
are quite a complex and beneficial creature. There are over 20,000 species of bees on the planet
(Spivak,2013). They are often associated with honey however, they play a far more important role,
they pollinate. Bees are responsible for about 80 percent of pollination worldwide and a single colony
is able to pollinate upwards of 300 million flowers each day (Greenpeace.org). Although there are
ways for human pollination it is often a painstaking and time consuming process. Studies have also
shown that human pollination is not as effective (Spivak, 2013)). With 90 percent of the worlds

Legal Memorandum

RE: Crawford v. Washington
DATE: November 2, 2014
Petitioner Michael Crawford stabbed a man who allegedly tried to rape his wife, Sylvia. At his trial,
the State played for the jury Sylvia s tape recorded statement to the police describing the stabbing,
even though Crawford had no opportunity for cross examination. The State sought to introduce a
recorded statement that petitioner s wife Sylvia had made during police interrogation, as evidence that
the stabbing was not in self defense. Sylvia did not testify at trial because of Washington s marital
privilege. The tape was played at trial, but she did not testify, testimonial statements are at issue, the

For a long period, up till now, I loved the early life of earth. Kimberella, Dickinsonia, and, later in
time, Hylonomus were some of the creatures I studied. To find out, I went online to look around. The
first question I looked at, to me at least, was the diversity of life in the early periods of life,
specifically the Ordovician. To find out the answer, we must go back in time, at the beginning of the
Ordovician in fact, to find out the answer. I started my research on this topic by surfing the internet
and looking at various websites until I found the perfect one. I finally found an entire article on how
the Ordovician period s life branched out. Next, I wanted to find out information on the missing link

right? You are correct in a way, but there is life here, microscopic life, but life nonetheless. Deep in the
ocean, in the crushing depths, there are black smokers, early versions of them, wafting out large
amounts of heat and food. This is where early life began, absorbing nutrients from the water. (

Regulated by state, local, and federal authorities; the Asarco copper refinery operated for more than
110 years and employed more than 25,000 people/worker. As time progressed, numerous supposive
health hazards that included pollution, lung cancer, lead poisoning, and exposure to dangerous
chemicals such as: Zinc, Cadmium, and Chromium, were brought upon the workers of Asarco and the
community of El Paso, Texas. Due to numerous court hearings pertaining to the subject of
environmental safety, Asarco closed its doors in 1998, leaving many employees with no jobs. The

public opinion viewed Asarco as a waste of space that can be made into something more attractive to

Growing up as a gamer, I have experienced many new things in the video game industry. I ve been
playing video games since the Sega genisis that I started playing when I was three years old. I ve been
gaming almost my whole life, I have watched new console been introduced, seen video games go
from 1080p to now an amazing 4K which makes the graphics look amazing. Modern video games
even have virtual reality that you as a consumer can now play in your own living room. But, even
though we have amazing things in video games the modern gamer is being introducing to a new
problem. The problem I am addressing of coarse is micro transactions in video games. Modern game
companies are charging you $60.00 dollars for a video game. Once you purchase this said video game
you have to grind countless hours in order to obtain specific items that will enhance your abilities in
this virtue world, or you can turn your real life currency into this video game currency in order to
potentially get these items early on. This concept is called pay to win. The definition of pay to win as
stated in wikipedia is In some multiplayer video games, players who are willing to pay for special
items or downloadable content may be able to gain a significant advantage over those playing for free.
Though I believe companies should be allowed to do this in free video game, I think it is wrong to
charge someone $60.00 and afterwords try to make them buy guns in order to enhance their gameplay.

ABSTRACT
The important biological macromolecule polyhydroxybutyrate (PHB) producing Bacillus subtilis was
isolated from the sewage sample and identified by means of 16S rRNA analysis. The renewable nature
and biodegradability of PHBs make them suitable materials to replace synthetic plastics in many
applications. Currently their production is expensive, but these plastics are only in their first stage of
commercial development. In the present study the physico chemical parameters such as Time,
Temperature and pH were optimized for increased production of PHB. It was found that maximum
production of PHB was observed at 48th hour (328µg/ml) of incubation time, temperature 370C
(336µg/ml), pH 7.5 (362 µg/ml). The low cost production media was developed using fruit peel
extract and sugarcane industrial waste. The amount of PHB produced using low cost production media
in fruit peel (234µg/ml) and industrial waste (218µg/ml). The PHB was characterized using FTIR and

Letting them express their feelings is very important because next time they will know it is okay to

28. Light In The Forest Johnny Tremain Analysis
Compare and Contrast Essay Rough Draft The Light in the Forest, by Conrad Richter, and Johnny
Tremain, by Esther Forbes, are two incredibly distinct novels, each with their own similarities and
differences when compared to one another. True Son, the protagonist in Light in the Forest, is a fifteen
year old boy raised by a tribe of Delaware Indians for the past eleven years of his life. Though he is
biologically American, he wholeheartedly considers himself a full blooded Indian. This not only
creates turmoil when he is forcibly moved to his biological white family but causes True Son
confusion when he is forced to choose between not only his two families but his two other identities as
well. On the other hand, Johnny Tremain, the protagonist in the novel Johnny Tremain, faces a
completely different situation for he is a fourteen year old boy living in colonial Boston. He is at first
entirely self centered and arrogant due to his prodigious gifts as a silversmith apprentice. However,
when an unfortunate injury results in him having a crippled hand, this destroys any chance of him
being an adequate silversmith. He faces humiliation but through many struggles and difficulties
transforms into a patriotic man. Through analyzing the two novels, there were many similarities and
differences found. Similarities include the difficult journey they both encounter as well as their similar
behavior. On the contrary, both individuals differ through their race and how they were brought up.
Both True Son and Johnny Tremain desire to stay in a comfortable setting. They greatly enjoy their
life and make no wish to change it. And yet, both characters were forced to face hardships which
ultimately changes both their situation as well as their perspectives in life. For instance, Johnny
Tremain had a comfortable position in life. He was widely considered the most talented young
silversmith in Boston. Though he was egotistic, he was destined for a bright future. Regrettably, when
molten silver disfigured his hand he lost his chance at ever becoming a silversmith and can no longer
find skilled work. Filled with self pity and despair, he almost turns to a life of crime. Only his

resistance by the end users. This resistance can come from any level, including the leadership. This
creates a need to make the leadership understand the reasons for the change and allow them to become
a part of the change, allowing them to buy in. This buy in from leadership will help the employees to
understand the reasons for the change. This will help to reduce resistance, but not completely get rid

34. Analysis Of Toni Cade Bambara s The Lesson
In The Lesson by Toni Cade Bambara, the narrator is Sylvia. She is a young African American girl
who has the capacity to see the truth in the reality around her. Her point of view explores the issues
that minorities face every day. In the way she thinks, speaks, and feel in situations. Sylvia is able to
present a broad view regarding her community; the lack of proper education, the need for involved
parents, and the inequality between rich and poor in the United States.
To begin, the horrifying language in the beginning of the story gives the reader an example of how
people in their neighborhood speak. The author, Bambara does this to show the reader that children
from lower class neighborhoods are affected by their surroundings and that children learn from
experience. When Sylvia says Miss Moore always plans boring ass things for us to do (171), we, the
readers get insight concerning Sylvia s rebellious behavior and her deficiency of respect towards
adults in her life. Sylvia uses irony to mock or convey contempt when she mentions her experiences
with Miss Moore. Bambara presented this to bring out Sylvia s traits. Even though Sylvia is quick to
be involved in mischief, the reader can clearly tell she has a sense of moral principles as a result of her
not being able to go through with the crash of the Catholic church. When Sylvia says, everything so
hushed and holy and the candles and the bowin and the handkerchiefs on all the drooping heads (175).
Sylvia also describes churchgoing as a practice within the community. When she says, Miss Moore,
who always looked like she was going to church, though never did (171). If Sylvia liked Miss Moore
or not, the author, Bambara is not using faith as an instrument to shape the story. Rather, it is Miss
Moore s education that is being used to affect Sylvia resistance.
The reader can tell Miss Moore is not what Sylvia is used to. When Sylvia describes her as a nappy
head bitch and her goddamn college degree (171). It indicated that Sylvia is not used to being around
an educated people. Miss Moore had seen and experienced things in life that Sylvia has under no
circumstances seen or heard of. Miss Moore is a college educated woman, something her mother,

36. Dangers Of Social Cohesion
There are many different ideas about humanity and how it works and what things make it work the
best. There are some sociology theorist have a more positive view on humanity and believe that
humanity works best when people have relationships and more human interaction thus creating society
and its regulations as we know them. There are many benefits of social cohesion, but there are also
downfalls of this as well according to some theorist and these are referred to as social control. Social
cohesion is when those in a social system identify with it and feel bound to support it, especially its
norms, beliefs, and values. Social control is how a community or society regulates a person s behavior.
Ultimately, the benefits of social cohesion outweigh the dangers of social control. Without the benefits
of social cohesion, the dangers of social control would be intensified because of the lack thereof.
Durkheim, Erikson, Putnam and Collins are theorists who all take a stance on the benefits of social
cohesion. Some of their ideas are identical to one another or have some similar points and all connect
in some way. Durkheim says that social cohesion protects people from anomie and anomic suicide.
Anomie is defined as the lack of social integration and regulation or the lack of the usual social or

37. Euphemism In Othello
In civilisations today it is not uncommon for people to take note of someone that is of African descent
in a high position in society. This is something that is not uncommon in past centuries as well. Othello
is a romantic tragedy about a couple, in the Shakespearian era, that undergoes trials that test their faith
in one another. In the end, they are not able to stand up to the challenge and fall, or are pushed, into
the cold embrace of death. Long before the grim reaper takes either of them it is demonstrated how
Othello, the husband, is affected by his African heritage in Desdemona s, the wife s, caucasian society.
In this well written play, composed by the author and playwright William Shakespeare, uses indirect
characterization, euphemisms and specific monologues to reinforce the idea that even though Othello
is a high ranking officer and skilled warrior he is still subject to racial prejudice from his colleagues,
and this proves that skin color can be an influence on life no matter the attributes of an individual
during this particular period in history. In the beginning of the play Shakespeare makes it apparent that
Brabantio, a Venetian of high political standing, sees Othello as a good friend and an enjoyable source
of entertainment. Her father lov d me, oft invited me; Still question d me the story of my life.

Background and Significance The Council Bluffs (IA) Fire Department was formed on January 5,
1883 by resolution of the city council to establish a full time, paid department. Prior to 1883, the
citizens of Council Bluffs had been protected from fire by several different volunteer fire companies.
The first such company, known as Hook Ladder 1, was formed after a conflagration destroyed most of
the town on November 14, 1854 (Petersen, 1992). Between 1854 and 1883, the department grew in
size, purchasing steam pumpers in 1868 and 1880. The city grew as well, expanding from a population
of 2,011 in 1860 to 18,063 in 1880. In 1918, the firemen of the CBFD organized and became a charter
member of the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF), Local 15. This is an affiliation that
the labor force of the CBFD still maintains today. On April 5, 1920, the CBFD began a two platoon
system with day and night shifts. Ten new firemen were hired bringing the total staffing to 36 men
working out of five stations. As the city continued to grow the fire department updated and broadened

These two films arrive amid the second wave of feminism in the United States. During this time, the
country saw the Post WWII era of family values, and mass consumerism. The civil rights movement

political activist. The Vietnam war erupts as the main focus of the mid 60s, and tensions increase even
more as the Gay Liberation Movement blooms into full effect throughout the 60s and 70s. With all the
chaos, women saw themselves as secondary and decided to spark social movements as a way to gain
equality. Gloria Steinem became the face of the movement stating, The truth will set you free. But
first, it will piss you off. The main focus of the second wave of feminism was to gain women s power
and liberation. They sought to expose domestic violence against women, the marriage inequality, child

education for women, as well as chattering the glass ceiling in the workplace. These two films could

attention that concerns me. North Korea continues to threaten and test nations around it, including the
US. We must stop Kim Jong Un, and do something before our wonderful country is damaged beyond
repair. Naturally people will be afraid of war and the unknowns that come with it, but sometimes we
must overcome our doubts for the greater good. Many intelligent people will give arguments that
discusses the effects of war on the economy, and how the environment will be thrown into chaos if a
nuclear strike would occur. This is a good point that we must pay attention to, the economy must stay
level for our own prosperity, and if the environment is destroyed in North Korea it will never been
usable for many many years. However, the benefits of eliminating the threat greatly outway the
negatives. It comes down to being fearless or afraid. Liberation for the oppressed people must be
obtained as soon as possible. Rocket Man is starving his citizens and causing them to live in poverty.
One third of children in the nation have suffered stunted growth do to the lack of food available
(Newman). Not only is North Korea s economy so weak it can not pay to feed its people, the citizens
only make two three dollars a month (Newman). Although the majority of people make so little, it is

43. Example Of Opponent Process Theory
Opponent process theory: Fred s Behavior
Fred is working in a job that is stressful, he enjoys drinking a few beers after work, but, there are
different states of emotions that occur during these events. We will look at Fred s behaviors, feelings
and the different conditions that is experienced, through a theory termed Opponent process.
Fred s Addiction
Fred drinking a beer activates a positive A state (pleasure). Automatic arousal of the opponent B state
(withdrawal) causes Fred s initial A state (pleasure) to diminish as he continues to drink beer. When
Fred stops drinking, the A state declines quickly, and he experiences the B state (withdrawal).
When an unconditioned stimulus, (reinforcer), is repeatedly presented to human three major affective
phenomena are often observed. First, affective or hedonic contrast. Second, frequent repetition of the
unconditioned stimulus, (reinforcer), gives rise to affective habituation (tolerance). Finally, after
frequent repetition of these stimuli, (reinforcer) a withdrawal emerges directly following stimulus
termination (Solomon, 1980).
If Fred continues his drinking daily the strength of the opponent B state, which will reduce the
magnitude of the affective reaction experienced during drinking. This strengthening may cause a
tolerance to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After the frenzied day, they sit back with a beer and relax, but, they do not become an alcoholic.
Most people who drink alcohol do not become alcoholics (TEXT). They enjoy their beverages and
limit their number of exposures to the beverage (e.g., drinking beer). When they consume over their
limit of alcohol and suffer the after effect (hangover), they understand what caused this discomfort and
do not associate it with the lack of drinking more

I will now make my small yearly report on Valmetal.
Concerning total sales, we ve had a similar year than 2015 (more or less 60K), or $34M. Overall, it
can be considered as a loss if the price increase in 2015 is to be taken into consideration. The
Canadian sales were excellent; compared to the United States where we ve had a drop in sales. Fierce
competition and the milk price have been the two factors linked to this decline. In Quebec and Eastern
Ontario, we have increased our sales for more than 12 % almost $1,5M. Congratulations and thank
you all.
Our sales of vertical mixers continue to grow, consolidating our leadership position in TMR systems,
with the large diversity of products that we are offering.
We also have other projects on the planning stages, we will talk about one of them soon, for the others,
there s always next year. We also have distributors with ideas, who are making suggestions on
products or improvements they share their vision about the future of farming; which is much valued, it
inspires us and I believe that we will go a long way

then explain how the use of complementary therapies is regulated. Then I will explain the principles
and practises of complementary therapies I will then go on to discuss complementary therapies that
are available for users of Health Social Care services.
P1
P2
The practice of conventional medicine is regulated by special laws that ensure that practitioners are
properly qualified, and keep to certain standards or codes of practice.
Regulation of complementary and alternative medicine
Currently, practitioners of two complementary and alternative medicines are regulated in the same
way as practitioners of conventional medicine. They are osteopathy and chiropractic. This regulation
is called statutory professional regulation.
This regulation makes sure that registered practitioners of osteopathy and chiropractic are properly
qualified and that they practise in a way that is safe and ethical, following the standards and codes set
by their professional regulators.
A regulation exists to protect a patient s safety on its own it doesn t mean that there is scientific
evidence that a treatment is effective.
Unregulated complementary and alternative medicines
In the UK there is currently no statutory professional regulation of any other complementary and
alternative medicine practitioners.
This means, for example that anyone in the UK can legally call themselves a homeopath

46. Does Medea Deserve Sympathy Essay
In Euripides Medea, there are moments when a specific character is deserving of sympathy, and
instances when they don t deserve any sympathy at all. In the beginning, Medea deserves sympathy
due to her husband leaving her for royalty and another woman. However, neither characters deserve
sympathy when Medea s tells of her plans of killing her children, and Jason s want for Medea to
become an exile. Towards the end, Jason deserves sympathy for trying to do what s best for his family
and the death of his children, but Medea deserves no sympathy for the killing of Glauce, Creon and
her children.
In the beginning of the play, Medea is deserving of sympathy due to her husband s betrayal towards
her. Characters, like the Nurse and Chorus feel the sorrow that Medea ... Show more content on

Medea s hurt and anger turns into rage when she plans to make corpses of three of [her] enemies,
which shows her ambition of creating catastrophe around her to make Jason suffer the
consequences. The plan of Medea wanting to kill Glauce and her children shows the audience that
Medea is plotting for revenge and will do anything to make Jason suffer. Jason also doesn t deserve
sympathy as his want for power and his strive for ambition is the main issue in this play. Jason left his
wife to marry Glauce, the princess of Corinth, to make his life more powerful. Jason doesn t want
Medea ruining his chances of staying in Corinth and one day becoming king. When he finds out
Medea is making plans, he makes sure that Medea knows that Corinth cannot be a home for [Medea]
anymore, which shows that Medea must become an exile again, in Jason s eyes, so that he can one day
be king. Both Medea and Jason are in no need of sympathy from the audience, but once Medea

48. Analysis Of Patrick Barclay s Award Winning Work
Mourinho: A Critical Analysis of Patrick Barclay s Award Winning Work
The Structuration
Patrick Barclay divides the book into eight distinct parts, each having a totally different significance,
while none of those parts relates to the previous one, not in context of Jose Mourinho s life, but of his
traits as an individual as well as a manager. The eight parts are:
1. The Premier One
2. Welcome to England
3. The Formative Years
4. Jose Who?
5. Behind the Mask
6. From Infighting to Ecstasy
7. Mayhem in Madrid
8. Happy to be Back
Barring the first chapter wherein Barclay narrates the tale of the orgulous Jose Mourinho outshining
his idol Louis Van Gaal at the time of the book s publication, all the others have been written so as to
take the reader from all the way back in the early 2000s to 2015 again, where the author finally ends
his literary morceau of Jose Mourinho s praise, which, though irritating at times, is equally striking for
the one reason that the Portuguese is always recognised for his haughty behavior it s easy to come up
with a hate account on Jose Mourinho than one that elevates his status not just as a manager, but a
father, a husband and a friend.
Furthermore, there are divisions within the eight chapters of the book at least three among them all
that serve Barclay s motive of not messing all the incidents and stories up, thereby being favourable
for any reader since it s one particular time period that the author is always talking about instead of a

49. Plessy V. Ferguson And Brown V Board Of Education
Maximiliano Sanchez Victoria
Professor Linda Holt
Comprehensive Law Studies
3 October 2017
Plessy v. Ferguson and Brown v. Board of Education Picture this: a world with no color. Would racism
still exist? Or would people be discriminated based on other things such as height, weight, or the
sound of their voice? We may never know the answer to these questions. Racism is still alive in the
United States, but it is not as severe and oppressive as it was during the era of the Jim Crow laws. The
13th amendment freed the slaves in the United States, however, not many white Americans agreed
with this. The 13th amendment did not shield the African Americans from oppression, The segregation
and disenfranchisement laws known as Jim Crow ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There was no clarification on what race would be considered white or what would be considered
black. During this incident, Homer Plessy, who was seven eighths white and one eighth African
American, purchased a rail ticket for travel within Louisiana and took a seat in a car reserved for white
passengers. (The state Supreme Court had ruled earlier that the law could not be applied to interstate
travel.) After refusing to move to a car for African Americans, he was arrested and charged with
violating the Separate Car Act. (Duignan 2017). Judge Ferguson ruled that the separation was fair and
did not violate the fourteenth amendment. The state Supreme Court also backed up this decision. The
case was brought to the Supreme Court and The law was challenged in the Supreme Court on grounds
that it conflicted with the 13th and 14th Amendments. By a 7 1 vote, the Court said that a state law
that implies merely a legal distinction between the two races did not conflict with the 13th
Amendment forbidding involuntary servitude, nor did it tend to reestablish such a condition.
(History.com Staff 2009). This decision set the key precedent of Separate but Equal in the United
States. Racial segregation kept growing. In 1954 the Supreme Court decision in Brown v. Board of
Education ruled that segregation in schools was unconstitutional. During the 1950s, ...civil rights

50. Why Did The Beatles Became Popular During The 1960s
During the 1960s, if you heard the term revolutionary in the music industry, most people would
probably think that you re talking about The Beatles. They were considered revolutionary at the time
and now legendary because of how innovative and successful they were during this time. For the
Beatles, every record was a hit when it came out. An example of their success was during the week of
April 4, 1964, the Beatles were holding the first five slots on the Billboard Singles chart. This was a
feat no other band was capable of. Just like any other band the Beatles didn t just come about and be
successful. The grouping of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr was a
happy coincidence. Originally, back in 1956 1957, John ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cliff Richard and The Shadows was considered the first, truly British rock and roll stars. The Beatles
band members all wanted to experience similar success to Cliff Richard and he played a big part in
how the Beatles performed in their early days. Chuck Berry was also one of the Beatles inspirations.
Like Chuck Berry, the Beatles would write and play their own songs. They even played cover songs
for many of Chuck Berry s most popular songs. Another band that influenced the Beatles was the
Beach Boys. Both the Beatles and the Beach Boys acknowledged the inspiration they had on each
other. An example of this was that the Beatles album Rubber Soul inspired the creation of Pet Sounds
album. Finally, one infamous inspiration the Beatles had was Bob Dylan. After being influenced by
Bob Dylan s style of folk music, the Beatles ended up releasing some folk rock mix of music like the
Byrds. Another influence from Bob Dylan was the start of the band members using marijuana.
Although it was known that the group all tried several different other drugs as well, but it was believed
that Bob Dylan introduced the group to using

51. Gilgamesh And Enkidu s Friendship
Gilgamesh and Enkidu s Friendship
In the Epic of Gilgamesh, friendship is a strong theme that drives the story. The bond that Gilgamesh
and Enkidu develop throughout the myth is a bond similar to that of brothers. Gilgamesh was fearless,
but arrogant and Enkidu was created by the gods specifically to keep the legacy crazed Gilgamesh in
check and to teach him humility; Enkidu becomes his conscience of sorts. Gilgamesh was oppressing
the people of Uruk and Enkidu and needed to put a stop to it by confronting and fighting him. From
what initially started as a violent encounter, their relationship bloomed into something that neither of
them could have expected. Their connection really takes off after their encounter with the giant
Hambaba and seals the deal on their friendship. They become basically inseparable and after Enkidu
passed it completely rocked Gilgamesh because he had lost a huge part of his life. Gilgamesh and
Enkidu s eventual bond is the perfect example of checks and balances within life making this oldest
hero s tale still very relevant today.
Gilgamesh was the son of the goddess Ninsun and the former King of Uruk Lugalbanda, this made
him one third man and two thirds god. He was created by Nintu, who is the great Mother Goddess, out
of clay. Many other gods had given him other qualities during his creation like beauty, courage, and
wisdom. Gilgamesh lived without any fear and did whatever he pleased even if it meant hurting
others. His behavior was so unruly
