Rock And Roll Influence On Society
There is a common misperception in society today that the roots of rock and roll began in the 1950s
with Elvis Presley shaking his hips. Few know that the roots of rock and roll actually go all the way
back to slavery. Rock and roll first got its start with the blues and has since evolved over time into the
rock and roll we now know of today. As each new band and artist would come along, they would go
on to add their own sound to the mix, and once it was introduced it would never be taken away. The
influence of blues artists, such as Mamie Smith, and hillbilly (country and folk) artists such as Hank
Williams, could be heard in the music of 1950s rockers Chuck Berry and Elvis Presley, and their
influence could be heard in one of the most famous ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By the end of World War II, the British Invasion had begun and bands such as The Rolling Stones
were becoming what is often seen as the epitome of rock and roll. Often thought of as the bad boys of
the British Invasion, their songs contained more messages about sex, drugs and rock and roll instead
of inequality, oppression and the troubles and issues people face. However, they carried on the legacy
of the blues nonetheless. Their performances had the influence of the likes of Chuck Berry s
unabashed performances, with Mick Jagger s attitude and posing. Although it is not like them to do
political lyrics, a song that propels them to stardom is the song Gimme Shelter which is often
interpreted to be a song about war. The repetition that is often found in blues is apparent in Gimme
Shelter as well with the lyrics war, children, it s just a shot away, it s just a shot

A Historical Views Of Leadership
Part III Historical Views of Leadership
Modern attempts to understand leadership often ignore the considerable insights provided by great
figures of the past.
Bernard M. Bass demonstrates that leadership was a recognized phenomenon from the emergence of
civilization.
Sampling of thinking about leadership from different perspectives as well as from various time
periods and cultures will be given.
All voices used, highlight the key issues identified by Spitzberg: the importance of the leader, the
recruitment of leaders, the process of leadership, and the relationship between leaders and followers.
J. Thomas Wren incorporates many different philosophers views in order to demonstrate that leaders

Greeks admired and wanted heroic leaders that had 1. justice and judgment (Agamemnon), 2. wisdom
and counsel (Nestor), 3. shrewdness and cunning (Odysseus), and 4. valor and activism (Achilles).
Machiavelli believed that there is nothing more difficult to take in hand, more perilous to conduct, or
more uncertain in its success, than to lead in the introduction of a new order of things. o He believes
that leaders needed steadiness, firmness, and concern for the maintenance of authority, power, and
order in government.
Hegel s (1830) Philosophy of Mind argues that by first serving as a follower, a leader subsequently
can best understand his followers, which people still believe today.
10 The Hero As King Thomas Carlyle
Kingship is a form of heroism.
A King is the commander over Men subordinates must loyally surrender themselves to their King.
A King commands over its people to furnish them with constant practical teaching, and to tell them
what they are to do.
Carlyle believes that putting the Ablest Man in each country in a supreme place and loyally respect
him will lead to a perfect government.
People will believe that what the Ablest Man tells them to do will be the wisest and the fittest. o
However, most people cannot do this. They cannot entrust everything to one person, they need
evidence and structure.

Communication Theories And Concepts Of The Film Outsourced
When talking about communication, it is essential to understand what this term really means. There
are many different definitions pertaining to this word, but none of them can be considered right or
wrong. On the other hand, Samovar and Porter suggested one of the most basic and influential
definitions: communication is the ability to share our ideas and feelings (Samovar and Porter, 1995, p.
27). Mr. Todd s journey in the film Outsourced greatly reflects on a wide variety of communication
theories and concepts, as well as my personal experience in the same country, India. When referring to
communication, it is fundamental to grasp The Shannon and Weaver Model that was invented in 1947.
This is basically an exemplary of a few stages in which the information source called sender, sends the
information to its destination, the receiver. Information obviously does not get to the receiver
magically; this is why this model was invented. It is a way to illustrate how a person shares beliefs and
ideas, and how they reach their destination. For example, at the beginning of the movie Outsourced,
the employee called Todd Anderson asks his boss named Dave: Is this gonna take a while? when he
was called to privately speak inside his office (Jeffcoat, 2006, 1:26). In this case, the sender is Dave
who sends the information through a place called channel, which then gets decoded before reaching its
destination, Todd. On the other hand, it is also important to underline the fact that

Stargirl Analysis
Here s a heads up about STARGIRL: most of the novel is trying to summarize Stargirl Caraway, but
that is where the problem lies. She cannot be contained. She can t be boxed up and tied with a pretty
ribbon she is a free spirit, she is like another species, according to Kevin (Spinelli 32). She doesn t
care what people think at all. From the first day at Mica High, Stargirl is an odd duckling. She doesn t
quite understand all the unwritten rules at her new school either, so she just goes along doing her
thing. She sings Happy Birthday to complete strangers, cheers for people picking up litter, and
performs impromptu halftime shows. She wears victorian dresses, a kimono, a flapper dress, an Indian
buckskin, and much more. No matter ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Archie, She seems to be in touch with what some of us are missing, (102). Teaching just
comes to her naturally: she points out little things she notices, like the beauty of an old man sitting on
a bench. Through her observations, Leo comes to a realization that he walked in a grey world of
nothings, (108). Stargirl is also the victim of intense bullying. Leo says it best: Classrooms, hallways,
courtyard, lunchroom everywhere I went I heard her disparaged, mocked, slurred, (165). But here s
the thing, Stargirl doesn t notice. She isn t like your average teenager wrapped up in herself and if
people judge her. She is too busy being compassionate towards the same people who treat her like
chopped liver. Stargirl doesn t let it bring her down; she just continues being the friendliest girl in
school. Overall, Stargirl girl is a quirky, free spirit, who doesn t care what people think about her. She
is content with one or two friends, and doesn t even notice people insulting her. She connects with the
universe in a much deeper level than anyone else, and that gets passed on to those who spend time
with her. She is so incredibly cheery and compassionate, even to those who do not reciprocate, which
shows a lot on her part. Stargirl is a rare bird,

Project: Shakespeare Essay
Hamlet is not like any tragedy. Hamlet is a classic revenge tragedy. All the revenge tragedies were
popular in England during the late 16th and early 17th. A Shakespearean tragedy is built upon a
central conflict which runs through from the beginning to the end of the tragedy until the conflict is
finally resolved. The play is built upon the long, tragic conflict between Hamlet and Claudius and the
conflict is built upon the figure of revenge. The Driving points that shapes the plot of play are
exposition, gradual development of the plot, the suspense, climax and the catastrophe of the play is the
revenge. Especially, the revenge for his father death. But it wasn t just ... Show more content on

There Hamlet learns that his father s death was no mistake, but it was Hamlet s uncle s plan to murder
him. The ghost also tells Hamlet that he has been given the role of the person who will take revenge
upon Claudius. Like a typical revenge tragedy, in Hamlet a crime is committed and for various reasons
laws and justice cannot punish the crime so the individual, Hamlet proceeds on to take revenge in
spite of everything. Hamlet must now think of how to take on Claudius, although he doesn t know
what to do about it. He ponders his thoughts for a long period of times, expecting to do the act
immediately, but instead he drags it on until the end of the play. The conflict of the play get further
development when Hamlet simulate to be insane. The revenge idea drives him to disguise himself as a
mad. Hamlet starts a battle of joke with Claudius by acting mad and calling it his antic disposition.
The whole thing was a scheme to get closer to Claudius to be able to avenge his father s death more
easily. The tactic was a disadvantage in that is drew all attention upon him. After this the revenge act
also structures the middle of the play. One important part of all revenge plays is that after the revenge
is finally decided upon, the tragic hero delays the actual revenge until the end of the play. Hamlet does
the same thing and he delays of killing Claudius takes on three distinct stages. First he had to prove

Gung Ho, A Classic Example Of Culture Conflict And...
The 1986 movie Gung ho was able to provide what can be described as a classic example of culture
conflict and complications occurring as a result of two cultures clashing against each other, as the
Japanese businessman Mr. Sakamto came into the small American town and obtained the factory after
a successful bid by Hunt Stevenson (Michael Keaton) for the Japanese to take over the factory and
save the small town from economic troubles. Hunt was hired to laisse between the workers and the
foreign management, and through him the audience experience how the synergy between the two
groups decline as they learn from each other regarding expectations, attitudes and cultural differences
which hinder productivity, first I will provide a better understanding for what is culture, and how it
play an imperative role in the success of an organization.
An organizational culture can be describe as the shared knowledge between the community with the
organization, that shared knowledge include information to which an individuals within this particular
society is able to use to function and be in good standing with the other members of the community, a
culture includes rules to which individuals existing within the organization bounds abide to it, it exist

According to most accounts, the La Eme was formed in 1957 by Luis Huero Buff Flores. La Eme
quickly grew in size as well as stamina. In the 1960s, the California Department of Corrections moved
Eme members in an attempt to break up the gang task at DVI, to other prisons such as San Quentin.
This effort served to spread La Eme s sway to other prisons. As La Eme expanded, the group saw the
possibility of profiting from drug sales, extortion and gambling rackets inside penitentiary, so leaders
set taxes on such actions, driving Latino convicts to hand over a small portion of profits to the gang. In
the 1980s, this strategy was taken by La Eme to the street. By joining forces with East Los Angeles
street gang leaders, La Eme started to control activities like contract killings, extortion, drug
trafficking, and debt collection from inside prison walls.
As penitentiaries became more divided, competing race based criminal organizations sprang up in the
California prison system, including the Black Guerilla Family and the Aryan Brotherhood. La Eme
continued to prosper in the face of this opposition, and even grew more arranged, drafting a set of
gang rules or commandments and recruiting members from Latino street gangs in Southern

Managed Care Payment Systems
Managed Care Payment System: A Critique
Richard Schulz
HCS 521 Health Care Infrastructure
University of Phoenix
Professor Jay Littleton
December 9, 2006
Introduction Individual payments for health care services received have undergone many changes over
the past one hundred and fifty years in this country. For many years a fee for service system was in
place. This was acceptable at the time because costs were low. However, as costs began to rise,
changes in the system occurred as well. Private insurance companies started to form in the 1920s to
help consumers afford medical care when needed. Through several evolutions over the years and due
to increased costs of medical care, we saw new market oriented public policy ... Show more content

Compared to Medicare fee for service, managed care plans typically cover more services and impose
lower out of pocket costs but is limited to the providers authorized by their plan (Scanlon, 1998). The
question of quality of care and services provided started to chink away at the armor of managed care.
The Balance Budget Act also played a role in determining the amount of services to be offered.
Research proved that plans were being overcompensated. Discrepancies arose from a wide difference
of payments due to location. The BBA realigned how it made payments for managed care. The result
may be a decrease in services provided (Scanlon, 1998). The dissatisfaction with managed care for
some consumers has resulted in the change of some insurance plans altogether. Significant numbers of
health plans have reduced their reliance on managed care tools at a time when health insurance
premiums have returned to double digit rates of growth in many markets. Faced with fewer
instruments for curbing utilization and constraining provider payments, health plans have attempted to
mitigate premium growth by shifting costs to consumers. These developments promise to lighten the
administrative and financial burdens that managed care has imposes on physicians and hospitals,
while leading consumers to

ESSAY ON 3 WAR POEMS
ESSAY ON 3 WAR POEMS
No man wants to go to war and no government wants war but there are many different circumstances
that lead to the action of war. Those involved in war will have political and personal views towards it.
The
First World War was greeted with great enthusiasm and patriotism; however it was the war in which
millions died compared to the wars after. In the past 200 years warfare has changed and with this
change the ideas on war have changed too.
Wilfred Owen, Rudyard Kipling and David Roberts are well known war poets. Using a selection of
their poems we hope to analyze the two conflicting views on war.
To understand what influenced the poets we need to get an idea of their social and historical
background. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He than counteracts these thoughts and statements by saying Who stands if freedom falls? and Who
dies if
England live? By this I think he means that even if you die during this war you will live on through
England and the freedom of mankind so fight because you have nothing to loose.
If you compare this poem to The solider written by Rupert Brooke in the same year, you will find that
the main view is the same. Both poems try to glorify warfare. I think this is because the poems were
written in the early stages of WW1 before most of the blood was spilled, so both poets took the
opportunity to recruit more soldiers.
Wilfred Owen was a solider in WW1 and battled at the front most of the war; because of this I feel his
view on the war can be trusted.
Wilfred Owens poem Dulce Et Decorum Est Was first published after the war in 1921 even though it
was probably written between the years
1915 and 1918 like his other poems. I think this is because it describes the true horror of warfare so
the generals didn t want it published as it might discourage others from signing up to join the army.
The title of the poem is

Power Of Music Research Paper
The Power of Music
Everyone knows the story of the Piped Piper of Hamelin. He had the ability to hypnotize people with
his flute by playing the most enchanting music. But he s just myth, right? No one has the power to
charm people with music. Well, you d be surprised. Throughout history, music has always been
recognized for its calming and almost hypnotic effects on the human mind, and for its ability to rouse
and inspire the spirit. Only recently has science uncovered the truth about music. Researchers have
long suspected that music affects the brain in the most profound ways, and now they finally have
evidence to back up that theory. Such an interesting topic definitely deserves further exploration.

Music s calming effects can extend to children as well, as directors at Young Imaginations have seen
for themselves. Young Imaginations is a private arts agency that provides music programs for 30
California schools. Executive director Marianne Locke speaks of their findings: When we play
traditional Japanese and Chinese music or other slow pieces and pair them with movements, such as
yoga and T ai Chi, the children become calmer and more able to focus their attention. (Cassidy 48)
Following up on this observation, the organization is setting up an independent study to determine if
children are calmer and perform better on certain learning tasks when exposed to slower and calmer
pieces of music. In a separate and totally unrelated study, Harvard researcher Jerome Kagan reported a
very interesting finding. If you present an interesting visual stimulus to a baby, it becomes aroused and
begins to move its arms and legs, Kagan noted. [However,] if you play some music that interests them,
they do the opposite they quiet down. There is a very different psychological reaction to sound. (Knox
A6) Music s affect on children have only recently been documented and published. Although the
aforementioned calming effects of music have not been explained by scientists, they now know that
the brains of infants are capable of extraordinary feats. New research shows that brain development is
largely unfinished at birth and that the stimuli a

Gilgamesh Conflict Analysis
In the beginning of Chapter 3 of the epic of Gilgamesh, Gilgamesh is faced with a difficult decision:
should he reject the goddess of love and war, Ishtar s romantic advances? It may appear that
Gilgamesh should have accepted Ishtar s offer of marriage, as the rejection led to the death hundreds
of innocent citizens of Uruk. On the surface, the epic could easily mislead the reader to believe this is
the case, but without further analysis, the reader may miss the epic s major character flaws that would
have made a relationship between Gilgamesh and Ishtar catastrophic. Through studying the behavioral
tendencies each character possesses, this misunderstanding can be addressed. Through this study, it
becomes clear that Gilgamesh s pride and Ishtar s sharp temper prove that a relationship between them
should not happen because this combination of traits tend to escalate each other to extreme levels of
conflict. In order to prove this claim, the paper will be structured to follow the order of the plot. I will
be focusing on Gilgamesh s harsh rejection to Ishtar, and how it begins to undermine any chance of a
healthy relationship between them. Then, I will be analyzing Ishtar s reaction to the insults, and then I
will be studying Gilgamesh s celebration to his victory over Ishtar. For each component, I will be
studying how Gilgamesh s pride and Ishtar s temper escalate their conflict.

Their predators are gray wolves, cougars, and bears. There is one kind of species of American bison,

one person affected, someone else is always dragged in. The fellow sufferer in this case is
Dimmesdale, and his inability to come out as the father of pearl, lets the sin eat away at him. The only
way sin is able to be eradicated is through confession, and we can see that throughout the story.
Had I one friend, or were it my worst enemy! to whom, when sickened with the praises of all other
men, I could daily betake myself, and be known as the vilest of all sinners, methinks my soul might

organisational capacity in terms of knowledge and innovation. (Balanced Scorecard Institute, n.d.).
EFQM model
The EFQM model is a cause and effect diagram for assessing the effectiveness in developing and
executing a stakeholder focused strategy, aimed at achieving sustainable excellence: outstanding
performance levels that meet or outstrip the expectations of the four key stakeholder groups that can
be distinguished in this model: business, customer, people and society. (European Foundation for
Quality Management, n.d.). The EFQM model gives insight into the levers that need to be pulled in
order to achieve the desired results. It allows understanding of the causal connection between what the
organisation does and how it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The strategic information plan, on the other hand, provides insight into the information that is
necessary for the management of the organisation on the long term. The strategic information plan is
the link between the strategy and the objectives that need to be realised by the executive organisational
levels. Without a strategic information plan the organisation cannot be strategy focused (= the
activities at the executive organisational levels contribute to the realisation of the strategy of the
organisation). Contrary to the operational information plan, the strategic information plan is not a
sequential process. It is a course seeking process. (Kerklaan,

The Implications of the Stanford Prison Experiment Essay
The Implications of the Stanford Prison Experiment In 1971 Dr Philip Zimbardo conducted an
experiment in the basement of Stanford University. This involved imprisoning nine volunteers in a
mock up of Stanford prison, which was policed by nine guards (more volunteers). These guards had
complete control over the prisoners. They could do anything to the prisoners, but use physical
violence. The subjects were all students applying for summer jobs to get some money. To make it a
fair test, the subjects were made to take psychological tests to make sure they were mentally fit. On
the first day, the prisoner subjects were picked up by a panda car and arrested on a mass crackdown on

It showed that when given power, many will abuse it. This is very useful as we can apply these lessons
to a real life situation, which could save thousands of people in a real prison. A conclusion of the
experiment is that if you put good people in an evil and unfair place they will become evil. It also
makes us conscious of what people are capable of whatever you think of them. The guards acted the
worst in the middle of the night it is suggested that this is because the believed they were not being
watched. It has been asked if what was learnt was worth the sacrifice of the people involved? I simply
think it was worth the sacrifice. The people involved may have suffered mental anguish due to this
experiment but they will die, and other people can take their place: but the knowledge gained will not
be forgotten so easily. Also I think it is wrong to simply blame the experiment; there is nothing wrong
with putting people in a false prison being controlled by other people. What was wrong was the evil
the people in control exerted on the prisoners. The BBC has repeated the experiment, which some see
as wrong. The repeat of the experiment has been improved by adding several safe guards to protect the
prisoners from the guards. However these

Essay And What I Say
The Great Depression lasted from October 24, 1929 until the economic recovery of the 1940s. On
October 29, Black Thursday, the stock market crashed heavily, and continued to fall sharply
throughout the coming weeks. As a result, the United States and the world were thrown into a decade
of poverty and unemployment. The depression affected all sectors of the economy. Farm owners and
agricultural workers suffered from falling crop prices. Businesses failed from a lack of investment
support and a decline in the ability of the masses to afford their products. Banks closed their doors as
the nation s citizens hoarded their money and defaulted on loan payments. Unemployment and abject
poverty enveloped the nation.

The nation mobilized, and it appeared the economy might improve. However, the economy remained
troubled, and criticism of the New Deal rose up in the government and in some political circles. A
number of Supreme Court Rulings effectively dismantled the primary mechanisms of FDR s plan.
Undaunted, and gaining a public mandate with the Democratic successes in the 1934 midterm
election, FDR set forth the Second New Deal in 1935. This program reaffirmed the administration s
commitment to public support of the nation s troubled people. Great steps were taken in attempts to
solve the unemployment problem and stimulate economic recovery. The legislation passed during this
period would be the framework of the New Deal throughout the remainder of the decade. The
economy showed some signs of recovery but was set back by the 1937 recession. After that, FDR
enacted few additional measures to cope with the depression. Finally, economic recovery took place
under the war economy of the early 1940s, with levels of poverty and unemployment returned to pre
depression levels.
The Depression brought marked changes to the political and entertainment culture of the United
States. A culture of dissent and disillusionment produced ample political outlets, such as Huey Long s
Share Our Wealth program. Dissent and disillusionment sparked by the depression affected popular
culture as well. The 1930s were the golden age of radio. Radio shows, most of them comedies and
soap operas,

Do not go to a dealer. Start by visiting the potential websites of auto dealers and see how long they are
in business. Well established dealers are always preferred because over time, they build the trust of the
community and create a body of work that can be judged and reported. A dealership in a few years is
more than a question mark, and since you may want to be serviced by your vehicle at the point where
you buy, you will need some assurance that the business is in coming years support your car.

Symbols In Macbeth Essay
The final act of Shakespeare s Macbeth is the culmination of the entire play, and Shakespeare uses
heavy symbolism to portray the final ideas of this tragedy. In the first scene, it is revealed that Lady
Macbeth has been sleepwalking, an expression of her anxiety. However, the Doctor asks How came
she by that light (i. 23) and why she rubs // her hands (i. 28 29). Throughout the play, Lady Macbeth
has been wrought with guilt because of Duncan s death. Now, she has an ever burning candle always
at her side. This candle represents her state of mind, with the lit wick her guilt that constantly eats
away at her. Additionally, she rubs her hands because, in her state of dream, she is washing them to
wash the blood off. These images were used ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
...Come sir, dispatch. ... again. Pull t off it, I say. (iii. 60 66). Each line break is a break of the poetry
and symbolic of the unraveling of Macbeth. Additionally, while Macbeth unravels, he asks his servant
Seyton, an allusion in his own rite, to put on and take off his armor multiple times, a verbal indication
of this disorder. However, it goes deeper than just the words themselves, but the division of the scenes
is symbolic of this unraveling. While Shakespeare did not write his plays into scenes, the constant
change of character and location within Act V in stark contrast to many longer scenes from the rest of
the play make apparent the undoing of Macbeth. Finally, the death of Macbeth is the ultimate symbol
within the end. Up until this point, every character had died in the night (except for Young Siward)
and an unnatural darkness had consumed most of the play. At the time of the final battle, the sun, a
symbol of good and victory, shines high over Macbeth s defeat. This moment culminates the conflicts
of evil and good, night and day, Macbeth and Scotland, and restores the order to the chain of being.
Though this dynamic symbolism, Macbeth brings an end to Macbeth and his regime, restoring peace

Creative Industries And The Creative Industry
As an ever evolving concept, the creative industries as as hard to define as creativity itself. Academia
is struggling to keep up with the growing global interest in these ideas. (De Beukelaer, 2015) A
creative industry is defined as unpredictability, rapid shift in trends and fashions (Lee, 2015, p. 141).
Products that are innovative and novel, satisfying the rapidly changing needs and demands of a
globalized society. (Lee, 2015) Lee (2015) identified two common strands of creative industry
research. The first focuses on the development of creative industries and the second on place
promotion : using arts and culture to promote or rejuvenate urban areas. (Lee, 2015) The know why,
know how, know who, know when and know from (Lee, 2015) are critical to development within the
creative industries. The constant demand for innovative products creates a need for a centralized
knowledge bases among the firms and freelancers of the creative industries. Access to this base,
providing information on job opportunities, new commodities and methods and new collaborators is
critical for maintaining a competitive advantage. (Lee, 2015) There are three key concepts that
facilitate the sharing of said knowledge: clusters, buzz and degree of commonality. (Lee, 2015) This
knowledge is transferred primarily through face to face interactions and the individuals sharing
information are referred to as actors. (Lee, 2015) A large amount of literature focuses on the

The Effects Of Adhd On The Life Of An Individual
Using your textbook and the article above, construct 2 8 sentence paragraphs summarizing what you
read.
In the article entitled, The effects of ADHD on the life of an individual, their family, and community
from preschool to adult life , provided by the Archives of Disease in Childhood, talks about the
individual stages of a person suffering from ADHD. The stages beginning from childhood and
continue on to adolescence and lastly adult life. Every stage is very different from the next. As
children in preschool, in this age group there is often unusually poor intensity of play and excessive
motor restlessness. So they lack being playful but they excessively talk maybe interrupting the teacher
or someone that is an authority figure. Their behavior opposes those of societal norms like breaking
the rules in a classroom. Their social skills lack as they keep to themselves so not much interaction
with others. It is important that when teachers notice a difference in the student s behavior to
immediately inform the parents that way parents can be more so involved with the child. Parents
might encounter huge amounts of stress even strain on their marriage when finding out about their
child, but with the help of teachers and outside sources parents will be better able to meet the demands
of the child. In the first years of schooling children with normal learning abilities will surpass those
with ADHD, but if the teacher is actively involved with those students with ADHD (338) they

The Relative Importance Of Four Variables As Possible...
The Relative Importance of Four Variables as Possible Indicators of Wake Length.
Introduction
In rivers there are objects that cause more of an obstruction to the overall flow and so generate more
resistance than the surrounding grains. This is because they are larger than the bed s grains and thus
they are sometimes known as large roughness elements. Large roughness elements are an important
feature in the river bed since they block the path of the flow. Obstructions embedded in a bed such as
stones can cause flow separation which results in phenomena such as detachment of boundary layer
and turbulent wakes (Charlton, 2008, p. 81 87). The flow is separated into three parallel flows that
combine at a later point downstream. Between these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Stone length shall henceforth refer to the length of the stone parallel to the overall direction of the
water flow. Stone length was determined using two measurements of length which shared the same
starting point: The upstream beginning of the artificial bed. The first was measured to the upstream
end of the stone while the second was measured to the downstream end of the stone. Stone length was
obtained by subtracting the first measurement from the second measurement. Stone protrusion shall
refer to a measurement taken perpendicular to the flow and approximately parallel to gravity. Stone
protrusion was determined using two measurements of depth: The first was the depth of the water
above the artificial bed. The second was the depth of the water above the stone. Stone protrusion was
obtained by subtracting the second depth measurement from the first depth measurement. Stone width
shall refer to the measurement taken perpendicular to the both flow and gravity. Stone width was
determined by directly measuring the stone along the widest possible perpendicular axis to both
gravity and the direction of water flow.
Empirically determining the properties of the artificial bed was neglected. However a few properties
can be estimated or stated: The smallest grain sizes in the bed were approximately 1cm. This was due
to the process used for selecting grains when the artificial bed was created. The maximum grain size
did not exceed the size of any of the stones

The Violence Of Black People And People Of Color Essay
Since its not so humble beginnings in the early 1600s, the country in which we live has had a plethora
of incidents regarding the mistreatment of black people and people of color. From slavery, to
lynchings, to assassinations, and so forth, the pain and suffering of African Americans has been very
much apart of the rich history of the United States of America. Even so, with each new generation, we
as a people have continued to face abuse and exploitation. At this point in our ongoing narrative, the
premise of our grief has shifted to shed a light on the prominence of brutality in American police force
practices.
This ever so popular conversation begins with Trayvon Martin in the year of 2012. Martin was a 17
year black boy who was attacked and shot by neighborhood watchman, George Zimmerman (29) as he
was walking home from a convenience store (Trayvon Martin Shooting 1). This young man was the
first police brutality victim since Rodney King to receive an abundant amount of media coverage and
public support. His death reinstated a nationwide conversation about the mistreatment of African
Americans when it comes to law enforcement in this country. It caused many people to come up with
a plan of action, and not long after he passed, the infamous nationwide movement referred to as Black
Lives Matter ensued (Herstory 1).
Regardless of this one tragic incident, it has come to be understood that the murder of innocent black
people by the hands of police has not ceased to

Early Elementary Students Word Knowledge
Introduction
Researchers suggest that early elementary students word knowledge is a determining factor of reading
comprehension both in early elementary school and throughout their schooling (Juel Deffes, 2004).
Specifically, one such argument is, Vocabulary is an increasingly important predictor of reading
comprehension in higher grades. It is a strong predictor of fourth grade reading achievement and the
main predictor by seventh or eighth grade. By the middle elementary grades, 95% of kids can read
more words than they can understand. From third grade on the main limiting factor for the majority of
children is vocabulary, not reading mechanics (Kame enui Baumann, 2012, p. 34). While the
relationship between vocabulary and reading comprehension appears to be established, determining
which instructional methods to effectively increase students word knowledge and comprehension is
vitally important.
Statement of the Problem
Reading comprehension requires understanding the meanings of words, sentences, and texts.
Vocabulary refers to the knowledge of lexical meanings of words and the concepts connected to these
meanings. Differences in the size of vocabulary have an effect on word recognition as well as reading
comprehension (Arrnoutse, Van Leeuwe, Voeten, Oud, 2001). Vocabulary is a principle contributor to
fluency, comprehension, and achievement (Bromley, 2007, p. 522). However, the key question is, does
vocabulary instruction improve reading

Bullying Is An Emotional And Physical Draining Issue
Bullying is an emotional and physical draining issue that is prominent throughout the world today.
School bullying has been identified as a major problem in many countries and almost anyone you
come across has a story they can tell about it. Bullying can create a hard lifestyle for someone who is
victimized, and can threaten a person s opportunities in life in the near future. The social climate of a
school is a replica of the world outside. All fifty states have passed school anti bullying legislation, but
each state addresses bullying differently. It is equally important that where people develop a large
portion of their mortality, their understanding how the world works and how their sense of
responsibility goes towards the society they live in.
The world is a dangerous place, not because of those who do evil, but because of those who look on
and do nothing. That quote stated by Albert Einstein is similar to the bullying cycle that was created
by an American nurse. There are five steps in the bullying cycle and each plays their own specific role.
The first in the bullying cycle is the bully. The bully is the main aggressor and is typically influenced
in looking for power or control over another human being. Also, the bully is either looking for
attention or possess a strong self esteem towards themselves or others. Next in the bullying cycle is
the passive defenders. Passive defenders are defenders who dislike the bully or the actions taking
place but will do nothing

Protagonist Personality
I sat down and actually took the personality test with my best friend. She wanted to compare our
personalities. Apparently, I have a protagonist ENFJ T personality. The letters stand for extraversion,
intuition, feeling, and judgement. Okay, I thought. So, I read up on it. My friend did not tell me what
her personality was, but I can interpret how we connect because of who I am. Protagonists are natural
born leaders, full of passion and charisma. I thought to myself, hmm I am not so sure if that is what I
think about myself. So, I did some more reading and then it made sense to me. It says that I am
unafraid to stand up and speak when they feel something needs to be said and it is easy to
communicate with others. Because of the intuitive trait I possess, I can connect my talking abilities to
people with the ability to reach every mind and connect ideas together, which I think is really cool

of this way because I notice this happen to me in real life situations among my friends, like choosing

  • 2. Rock And Roll Influence On Society There is a common misperception in society today that the roots of rock and roll began in the 1950s with Elvis Presley shaking his hips. Few know that the roots of rock and roll actually go all the way back to slavery. Rock and roll first got its start with the blues and has since evolved over time into the rock and roll we now know of today. As each new band and artist would come along, they would go on to add their own sound to the mix, and once it was introduced it would never be taken away. The influence of blues artists, such as Mamie Smith, and hillbilly (country and folk) artists such as Hank Williams, could be heard in the music of 1950s rockers Chuck Berry and Elvis Presley, and their influence could be heard in one of the most famous ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By the end of World War II, the British Invasion had begun and bands such as The Rolling Stones were becoming what is often seen as the epitome of rock and roll. Often thought of as the bad boys of the British Invasion, their songs contained more messages about sex, drugs and rock and roll instead of inequality, oppression and the troubles and issues people face. However, they carried on the legacy of the blues nonetheless. Their performances had the influence of the likes of Chuck Berry s unabashed performances, with Mick Jagger s attitude and posing. Although it is not like them to do political lyrics, a song that propels them to stardom is the song Gimme Shelter which is often interpreted to be a song about war. The repetition that is often found in blues is apparent in Gimme Shelter as well with the lyrics war, children, it s just a shot away, it s just a shot ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Bernard M. Bass demonstrates that leadership was a recognized phenomenon from the emergence of civilization. Sampling of thinking about leadership from different perspectives as well as from various time periods and cultures will be given. Greeks admired and wanted heroic leaders that had 1. justice and judgment (Agamemnon), 2. wisdom and counsel (Nestor), 3. shrewdness and cunning (Odysseus), and 4. valor and activism (Achilles). Machiavelli believed that there is nothing more difficult to take in hand, more perilous to conduct, or more uncertain in its success, than to lead in the introduction of a new order of things. o He believes that leaders needed steadiness, firmness, and concern for the maintenance of authority, power, and order in government. Hegel s (1830) Philosophy of Mind argues that by first serving as a follower, a leader subsequently can best understand his followers, which people still believe today. 10 The Hero As King Thomas Carlyle Kingship is a form of heroism. A King is the commander over Men subordinates must loyally surrender themselves to their King. A King commands over its people to furnish them with constant practical teaching, and to tell them what they are to do. Carlyle believes that putting the Ablest Man in each country in a supreme place and loyally respect him will lead to a perfect government. • 4. Communication Theories And Concepts Of The Film Outsourced When talking about communication, it is essential to understand what this term really means. There are many different definitions pertaining to this word, but none of them can be considered right or wrong. On the other hand, Samovar and Porter suggested one of the most basic and influential definitions: communication is the ability to share our ideas and feelings (Samovar and Porter, 1995, p. 27). Mr. Todd s journey in the film Outsourced greatly reflects on a wide variety of communication theories and concepts, as well as my personal experience in the same country, India. When referring to communication, it is fundamental to grasp The Shannon and Weaver Model that was invented in 1947. This is basically an exemplary of a few stages in which the information source called sender, sends the information to its destination, the receiver. Information obviously does not get to the receiver magically; this is why this model was invented. It is a way to illustrate how a person shares beliefs and ideas, and how they reach their destination. For example, at the beginning of the movie Outsourced, the employee called Todd Anderson asks his boss named Dave: Is this gonna take a while? when he was called to privately speak inside his office (Jeffcoat, 2006, 1:26). In this case, the sender is Dave who sends the information through a place called channel, which then gets decoded before reaching its destination, Todd. On the other hand, it is also important to underline the fact that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Leo says it best: Classrooms, hallways, courtyard, lunchroom everywhere I went I heard her disparaged, mocked, slurred, (165). But here s the thing, Stargirl doesn t notice. She isn t like your average teenager wrapped up in herself and if people judge her. She is too busy being compassionate towards the same people who treat her like chopped liver. Stargirl doesn t let it bring her down; she just continues being the friendliest girl in school. Overall, Stargirl girl is a quirky, free spirit, who doesn t care what people think about her. She is content with one or two friends, and doesn t even notice people insulting her. She connects with the universe in a much deeper level than anyone else, and that gets passed on to those who spend time with her. All the revenge tragedies were popular in England during the late 16th and early 17th. This effort served to spread La Eme s sway to other prisons. As La Eme expanded, the group saw the possibility of profiting from drug sales, extortion and gambling rackets inside penitentiary, so leaders set taxes on such actions, driving Latino convicts to hand over a small portion of profits to the gang. In the 1980s, this strategy was taken by La Eme to the street. By joining forces with East Los Angeles street gang leaders, La Eme started to control activities like contract killings, extortion, drug trafficking, and debt collection from inside prison walls. As penitentiaries became more divided, competing race based criminal organizations sprang up in the California prison system, including the Black Guerilla Family and the Aryan Brotherhood. Managed Care Payment Systems Managed Care Payment System: A Critique Richard Schulz HCS 521 Health Care Infrastructure University of Phoenix Professor Jay Littleton December 9, 2006 Introduction Individual payments for health care services received have undergone many changes over the past one hundred and fifty years in this country. For many years a fee for service system was in place. This was acceptable at the time because costs were low. However, as costs began to rise, changes in the system occurred as well. Compared to Medicare fee for service, managed care plans typically cover more services and impose lower out of pocket costs but is limited to the providers authorized by their plan (Scanlon, 1998). The question of quality of care and services provided started to chink away at the armor of managed care. The Balance Budget Act also played a role in determining the amount of services to be offered. Research proved that plans were being overcompensated. Discrepancies arose from a wide difference of payments due to location. The BBA realigned how it made payments for managed care. The result may be a decrease in services provided (Scanlon, 1998). The dissatisfaction with managed care for some consumers has resulted in the change of some insurance plans altogether. Significant numbers of health plans have reduced their reliance on managed care tools at a time when health insurance premiums have returned to double digit rates of growth in many markets. Faced with fewer instruments for curbing utilization and constraining provider payments, health plans have attempted to mitigate premium growth by shifting costs to consumers. These developments promise to lighten the administrative and financial burdens that managed care has imposes on physicians and hospitals, while leading consumers to ... Those involved in war will have political and personal views towards it. The First World War was greeted with great enthusiasm and patriotism; however it was the war in which millions died compared to the wars after. In the past 200 years warfare has changed and with this change the ideas on war have changed too. Wilfred Owen, Rudyard Kipling and David Roberts are well known war poets. Using a selection of their poems we hope to analyze the two conflicting views on war. To understand what influenced the poets we need to get an idea of their social and historical background. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He than counteracts these thoughts and statements by saying Who stands if freedom falls? and Who dies if England live? By this I think he means that even if you die during this war you will live on through England and the freedom of mankind so fight because you have nothing to loose. If you compare this poem to The solider written by Rupert Brooke in the same year, you will find that the main view is the same. Both poems try to glorify warfare. I think this is because the poems were written in the early stages of WW1 before most of the blood was spilled, so both poets took the opportunity to recruit more soldiers. Wilfred Owen was a solider in WW1 and battled at the front most of the war; because of this I feel his view on the war can be trusted. Wilfred Owens poem Dulce Et Decorum Est Was first published after the war in 1921 even though it was probably written between the years 1915 and 1918 like his other poems. I think this is because it describes the true horror of warfare so the generals didn t want it published as it might discourage others from signing up to join the army. The title of the poem is ... Music s calming effects can extend to children as well, as directors at Young Imaginations have seen for themselves. Executive director Marianne Locke speaks of their findings: When we play traditional Japanese and Chinese music or other slow pieces and pair them with movements, such as yoga and T ai Chi, the children become calmer and more able to focus their attention. (Cassidy 48) Following up on this observation, the organization is setting up an independent study to determine if children are calmer and perform better on certain learning tasks when exposed to slower and calmer pieces of music. In a separate and totally unrelated study, Harvard researcher Jerome Kagan reported a very interesting finding. If you present an interesting visual stimulus to a baby, it becomes aroused and begins to move its arms and legs, Kagan noted. Gilgamesh Conflict Analysis In the beginning of Chapter 3 of the epic of Gilgamesh, Gilgamesh is faced with a difficult decision: should he reject the goddess of love and war, Ishtar s romantic advances? It may appear that Gilgamesh should have accepted Ishtar s offer of marriage, as the rejection led to the death hundreds of innocent citizens of Uruk. On the surface, the epic could easily mislead the reader to believe this is the case, but without further analysis, the reader may miss the epic s major character flaws that would have made a relationship between Gilgamesh and Ishtar catastrophic. Through studying the behavioral tendencies each character possesses, this misunderstanding can be addressed. Through this study, it becomes clear that Gilgamesh s pride and Ishtar s sharp temper prove that a relationship between them should not happen because this combination of traits tend to escalate each other to extreme levels of conflict. In order to prove this claim, the paper will be structured to follow the order of the plot. Though these were the focal points, three related tangents were my main takeaway from the experience. However, it goes deeper than just the words themselves, but the division of the scenes is symbolic of this unraveling. While Shakespeare did not write his plays into scenes, the constant change of character and location within Act V in stark contrast to many longer scenes from the rest of the play make apparent the undoing of Macbeth. Finally, the death of Macbeth is the ultimate symbol within the end. Up until this point, every character had died in the night (except for Young Siward) and an unnatural darkness had consumed most of the play. At the time of the final battle, the sun, a symbol of good and victory, shines high over Macbeth s defeat. Introduction In rivers there are objects that cause more of an obstruction to the overall flow and so generate more resistance than the surrounding grains. This is because they are larger than the bed s grains and thus they are sometimes known as large roughness elements. Large roughness elements are an important feature in the river bed since they block the path of the flow. Obstructions embedded in a bed such as stones can cause flow separation which results in phenomena such as detachment of boundary layer and turbulent wakes (Charlton, 2008, p. 81 87). Early Elementary Students Word Knowledge Introduction Researchers suggest that early elementary students word knowledge is a determining factor of reading comprehension both in early elementary school and throughout their schooling (Juel Deffes, 2004). Specifically, one such argument is, Vocabulary is an increasingly important predictor of reading comprehension in higher grades. It is a strong predictor of fourth grade reading achievement and the main predictor by seventh or eighth grade.
