Adaptive Behavior Test Questions
What tests are used to assess students? There are several tests I use to assess students Kindergarten to
second grade: 1. Test of Cognitive (IQ) Ability such as the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children 2.
Achievement Tests such as Woodcock Test of Achievement, and Wechsler Individual Achievement
(WIAAT) 3. Behavior/Personality Tests such as the BASC (Behavioral Assessment System for
Children), Connor Rating Scales (for ADHD), and the BRIEF (to assess Executive Functioning) 4.
Vineland Adaptive Behavior Test (to measures the personal and social skills) 2. What are the pros and
cons of using those tests? Like everything else, there are limitations and biases in every assessment
used. Some limitations include if the child was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Seek to understand the family and where they are coming from. 5. What is your school s process for
identifying students with special needs? (See Appendix A for diagrams the school psychologist draw
during this part of the conversation). The process we use is called RTI. All students start with the
universal screening (MAP, DIBELS, DRA, DSA). If the score is at or above benchmark, the
instruction continues as followed. If not, the intervention implemented and progress monitoring
occurs. If the student gets at or above benchmark with the interventions implemented, the student
graduates to the regular instruction. If not, an RTI grade level meeting occurs to check progress. Then
it is decided to intensify or adjust an intervention that was already in place. From here, a student can
graduate or an SPMC (student progress monitoring conference) takes place to take an individual
problem solving approach. To this meeting attend parent(s), teachers, principal, psychologist, and any
other team member necessary. From this meeting, an intervention is designed for the specific child and
others factors may be addressed as well (home environment, etc.). Progress is monitor again and the
student may graduate. If not, a disability may be suspected and there may be the need to assess more.
A consent for evaluation is needed prior to testing the student. Parents need to be on board with the

The Importance Of Historical Events In The Diary Of Anne...
Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party killed millions of people in the short time of six years during World
War II. Other people, such as Anne Frank and her family, tried to avoid the cruel intentions of the
Nazis by hiding in an annex for two years. The historical events of World War II affected the lives of
Anne and the others hiding in the annex. Historical events in The Diary of Anne Frank causes
extensive changes to the drama. Two primary changes that occur due to historical events are the
character s traits and the mood of the drama. The taking of Jews in Amsterdam caused a difference in
the mood of the drama. The Jews were arrested and then sent off to concentration camps by the Nazi
soldiers and the people in the annex had no idea until Mr. Dussel came to the annex and told them.
The people hiding in the annex were unaware of what was happening outside. Other than very little
food and privacy issues they had very few problems. After learning that people they know were being
taken, consequently results in them going into shock. They now know how serious their situation is.
Mr. Van Daan, you don t realize what is happening outside that you should warn me of a thing like
that. You don t realize what is going on.... Right here in Amsterdam everyday, hundreds of Jews
disappear... They surround a block and search house by house. Children come home from school to
find their parents gone. Hundreds are being deported...people that you and I know....the
Hallensteins....the Wessels.. (Hackett, 130). This clearly shows that the historical event of the Jews
starting to be taken told to them by Mr. Dussel affects the drama s mood. Before this news the people
in the annex don t have a lot of worries or problems. Then, they learn that Jews, even people they
know, are being arrested. This affects the mood of the drama from smaller, less serious problems
leading to going into shock and becoming much more serious and scared of their situation and lives.
Other historical events also affect the drama in different ways. Another way the drama was alternated
was when the news of the invasion finally reached the annex. Miep brought the news of the begging of
the invasion in Normandy. Before Miep brought the news that the invasion had

Differences Between The Bodhisattva In The Davis Museum
Another more obvious difference between the Bodhisattva in the Davis Museum is the coloring of
each. Unfortunately, time has worn away most of the paint on these heads, but the left Bodhisattva
shows more remnants of the original painting, including a small wavy mustache. Red paint can still be
seen in the headdress, the urna and the lines of the neck. Both heads have dark paint outlining the
eyebrows and the eyes, offering the viewer a look into Gandharan culture. One can see the hair was
once painted black based on the left Bodhisattva s hair which still contains some of the dark pigment.
While most of the paint has worn away, the naturalistic sculpting style allows the life of the
Bodhisattvas to remain intact without the added color. The sculptures appear dynamic due to the use
of lines and shadows in order to further one s sense of naturalism. The eye sockets are set deep into
each head which causes a shadow to fall over the eyes due to the brow ... Show more content on

The stucco heads are examples of the novel art that was formed when art from different countries was
allowed to influence each other. This is visibly illustrated by the Davis Museum placing the
Gandharan heads between the South Asian and Mediterranean exhibits, symbolizing the mixing of the
various art forms. While the informational cards about the Bodhisattvas are helpful tools, they must be
taken with a grain of salt. Whatever is printed on the informational cards must be questioned and
analyzed instead of believed to be the truth. The museum controls the informational cards and thus,
controls the narrative that the audience will learn about each piece. Nonetheless, it is critical to be
curious about the circumstances surrounding museums and their collections so in the future, such
questionable practices won t be tolerated and important cultural pieces will no longer be taken from
their origin

Influenza Pandemic Of 1918 Essay
From 1918 1919, the influenza virus swept the world and had disastrous effects. Different factor
contributed to the spread of the virus. Many religious groups believed the virus was an evil that had
fallen on the land and that only God can save them. Others caught the disease due to the lack of
sanitary prevention, such as there being no inspections in the trading ports. Also many people were
ignorant and knowledgeable about the pandemic because of the lack of response from
health/government officials. In all, the lack of authority was a huge contributing factor to the spread of
the influenza virus.
The Great War helped create the influenza pandemic of 1918, and due to the close quarter s nature of
military service and trench warfare that helped the virus spread. Army recruits in World War One were
brought together from a wide range of backgrounds to live in close proximity in army camps,
barracks, troop ships and trench dugouts. This along with the horrible conditions and the infestation of
rats made it very easy for disease to spread. Soon, the war was ... Show more content on

coming to the New World, Europeans did not fully understand how diseases were spread or

native populations as God s divine work showing European settlers God was on their side. Also
Europeans did not know how devastating their diseases, like smallpox, were to entire populations until
they saw the deaths. Overall, From 1918 1919, the influenza virus swept the world and had disastrous

Essay on Christian and Muslim Religious Tolerance
FWIS 104
Christian and Muslim Religious Tolerance
It is ironic that while they are based on similar scriptures, and therefore similar ideologies, Christianity
and Islam have had divergent attitudes towards the acceptance of religious minorities. By its nature,
the Christian faith antagonizes other religions, including Judaism and Islam, because, according to
Christian scripture, a lack of belief in the divinity of Jesus Christ results in damnation. The Muslim
faith, however, has a much more tolerant view on People of the Book, including Christians and Jews,
since such tolerance is stipulated by Islamic scripture. Subsequent treatment (as opposed to
acceptance) of religious minorities, however, was similar between followers of the two ... Show more

These taxes also served as an economic incentive for religious coexistence and toleration. In the
dhimmi system (which was in itself Islamic law that extended rights and protections to religious
minorities of the book ) it is stated that [the People of the Book] must be shown gentleness (page 4) as
long as they have paid their tax in full. In the conquest treaty, the People of the Book are even
guaranteed religious freedom under the condition they pay the jizya. It states, Their churches shall
neither be used as dwellings nor destroyed... No constraint shall be exercised against them in religion
nor shall any harm be done to any of them. The restrictions against non Muslims were typically mild.
In the Shurut Umar, Christians were restricted from teaching or publicly expressing their religion.
Other secular restrictions (as opposed to restrictions on religious freedom expression) include not
seek[ing] to resemble the Muslims by imitating any of their garments (page 13) and not sell[ing]
fermented drinks, both much milder alternatives to religious violence. Likewise, there have been
instances of Christians encouraging peace towards religious minorities. For example, Saint Augustine
cites a verse from Psalm 59 as his main inspiration for relative tolerance: He is my God.

handclapped during his performances. The tour became a confrontation between Dylan and his
audience, especially during one of his concerts at the Manchester Free Trade Hall in England on May
17, 1966. A recording of this concert was released in 1998: The Bootleg Series Vol. 4: Bob Dylan Live
1966. Near the end of the concert, and during the the climax of the evening, a member of the audience,
who was apparently angered by Dylan s electric backing, shouted directly to Bob: Judas! to which
Dylan quickly responded, I don t believe you ... You re a liar! Dylan turned to his band and screamed,
Play it fucking loud! as they exploded into the final song of the night, Like a Rolling Stone . During
this tour, Dylan was described as exhausted and acting as if on a death trip . The film maker D. A.
Pennebaker who was accompanying the tour, described Dylan as taking a lot of amphetamine and who
knows what else. In an 1969 interview, Dylan said, I was on the road for almost five years. It wore me

Dylan the chance to escape the pressures around him. Dylan confirmed this interpretation in his
autobiography: I had been in a motorcycle accident and I d been hurt, but I recovered. Truth was that I
wanted to get out of the rat race. Dylan withdrew from public and his musical performances, and apart

Generation View Of Reality Essay
Generation s View of Reality
Ben Stiller s 1994 film, Reality Bites, portrays the broad based struggles of
America s twentysomethings through a lighthearted glimpse into the lives of the movie s main
characters. Four friends, recently graduated from college, find themselves over educated and
under employed, a theme reiterated in the lives of many Generation Xers according to critic
Marilyn Gardner. She states, unemployment is higher for those under 25 then it is for the
workforce as a whole. (pg. 14, col. 1) Though Reality Bites bills itself as a comedy about love
in the 90 s, the film is more of a commentary on the issues facing young adults today
(Kempley, Sec. C., pg 7). The central theme concerning ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Michael is a producer for In Your Face Television, a spoof on MTV, the
channel of choice for our generation. Though Michael is young enough to be included in
Generation X, his ideals revolve around possessions as a measure of success, something no
authentic member of Generation X would tolerate.
Somewhere in the middle is Lalaina, a strange mixture of the two. She is the
valedictorian of her graduating class and is briefly employed by a television talk show as an
intern like production assistant until she is fired. In her valedictory address, she condemns the
BMW driving older generation of her parents who have left a lack of employment and natural
resources for her and her peers. Ironically, her graduation gift from her father is a used
BMW, which she concedes to drive until she can afford an inexpensive car of her own. Lalaina s
unemployment leads her to look for jobs where she is inexperienced (working as a news
journalist) to over qualified (flipping burgers at Burgerama), none of which are fruitful. Lalaina
then becomes a slacker herself by eating chips and chain smoking in her pajamas for hours a day.
The social issues facing the characters in the film are what differentiates Reality Bites
from other so called generational flicks such as Rebel Without a Cause, The Graduate, and The
Big Chill. In one of the opening montages, Vicky (Jeanne Garafalo) is shown

Anti-Slavery Rhetoric In Fredrick Douglas, Angelina Grimke...

Analysis of Anti Slavery Rhetoric Fredrick Douglas, Angelina Grimke, and Henry David Thoreau
were well known abolitionists who spoke against the issue of slavery to various extents during the
course of their lives. They did so in written forms through books or orally through speeches. Either
way, their anti slavery rhetoric was meant to move people and galvanize them to fight for a better
tomorrow where equality would take charge and the issue of slavery would be no more. To accomplish
this, these abolitionists utilized a variety of methods of persuasion within their rhetoric so as to be able
to more effectively influence others and compel them to take positive action. These methods of
persuasion are; ethos, pathos, and logos. On the flip side, the abolitionists also made various types of
claims (fact, value, and policy) as they delivered their rhetoric. This paper briefly examines the
effectiveness of the persuasion methods used as well as the appropriateness with regard to the claims
made. Pathos is a method of persuasion that tries to convince the audience by targeting their emotions.
Fredrick Douglas, in his speech what to the slave is the fourth of July? Dominantly uses pathos as a
method of persuasion. He states that he has been through slavery, escaped from it, and now constantly
fears going back to it (Douglas 3). The emotions that he elicits through these observations gives him a
solid platform on which to attack the emotions of the

precipitate was formed in Step 6 of the experiment, it was confirmed that there was no presence of

a discrete spectrum of light. For example, Barium Chloride will emit a yellow color, whereas Lithium

The Role Of Popular Music In The Infantilization Of Women
Music can help change lives, heal wounds, or unfortunately, create stigmas. We live in a world that
stigmatizes women on a daily basis, and the music industry plays no less of a significant role in
reinforcing some of those stigmas. One apparent stigma that the current music industry is promoting is
the infantilization of women. Infantilization is the act of treating an adult as a child, and thus denying
her or his maturity. Equating women with children, and treating them as if they are weak and
dependent is something we can clearly see in pop music. Whether it was through presenting women in
infantilized positions in music videos or using infantilizing terms in lyrics, pop music plays a big role
in shaping our inaccurate perception of women. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Then, I will present the results in graphs and tables and discuss them. I plan to split my discussion into
two parts parallel to the survey s parts. I predict that the participants would describe the women in the
infantilized song lyrics and music videos as childlike and dependent. If my prediction was true, I
would use the discussion parts to explain the powerfulness of music in shaping the perception of
women in our society. In my discussion, I will incorporate the findings of Huot s and Carlson s
research that go along with my predicted finding. I will also use the examples of the infantilization of
women in pop culture that are shown in The Codes of Gender; a documentary film, written and
directed by Sut Jhally, that focuses on the American s pop culture role in shaping the stereotypical
ideas about femininity and masculinity. Also in this section, I will discuss other effects that resulted
from the infantilization of women in music. I will use Alanna Vagianos s Huffington post article Drake
s Hotline Bling Just Got A Genius Feminist Makeover, to help me provide an example. In this article,
Vagianos presents the story of a 27 year old woman named Javetta Laster who was affected by the
infantilizing lyrics of the hit song Hotline Bling, and decided to rewrite the lyrics in a more accurate
way. One example of Laster s rewritten lyrics shows how the original one was presenting an
infantilized look of women; the original lyric says: Why you never alone? Why you always touching
road? Used to stay at home, be a good girl. You was in the zone, yeah, while Laster s edited feminist
version of the same lyric says: You used to stay at home and be someone I saw fitting into the
patriarchal expectations of women to be infantilized good girls which is some bizarre father/daughter
husband/wife dynamic left over from women being considered adult children property. Laster s

Teachers play an important role in student s life. The most powerful role model for students are

the law, with the support of something of value that has a legal purpose. It is an agreement between

obligations enforceable by law. There are instances where the enforcement of a contract would bring
about gains or losses to society and commerce. In the Jacob Youngs, Incorporated vs. George E. Kent

defendant, George E. Kent. The clause stated that any work that is either defective or not in

Also, the replacement of the piping would have resulted in the wasting away of materials that went
into the construction of the house. To the courts, and in my view, this would not have been the best
allocation of resources in society as the time, and labour that went into the development would be
sunk. The relief that the plaintiff obtains the remaining balance for building the house promotes
society s well being so that honest mistakes, as long as their costs are not substantially great, are
forgiven and that unconscionable judgments are not made. The Osprey LLC vs. Kelly Moore Paint Co
case primarily deals with the use of language in a contract. The defendant, Kelly Moore, leased
commercial property from Osprey, the plaintiff, under a fifteen year contract with two five year
renewal options. The clause in the contract stated that notice of the renewal of the lease shall be given
in writing and may be delivered either personally or by depositing the same in the United States mail...
Kelly Moore faxed the second renewal to Osprey but Osprey claims to have never received it and sued
Kelly Moore for breaching the contract. The court reasoned that the faxed delivery is sufficient
enough to renew the lease. Justice Kauger delivered the majority opinion that examined the elements
of this binding agreement. In this examination, the court used a two step analysis to determine whether
it would be fair to rule

Del Hardy s The Light In The Forest Book
The Light in the Forest book was about an Indian boy, True Son being forced to return to his white
parents that lived in Pennsylvania. True Son went back to his white parents and his younger brother,
after being an Indian for eleven years in Ohio. With him was a white soldier, Del Hardy that spoke the
Delaware language. Myra Butler, Harry Butler, and Gordie Butler were excited for his return. When
he arrived home, his Aunt Kate disliked True Son and his customs. His Uncle Wilse made fun of his
language and his people. Uncle Wilse hated True Son what he was, an Indian and slapped True Son.
True Son got into a lot of conflicts with other whites because of his Indian mindset. Half Arrow, True
Son s cousin found him on white territory. True Son and Half Arrow stole multiple things from True
Son s uncle. Half Arrow and True Son ran away together in the forest. They both stayed in the forest
until they came to their tribe again. True Son met with his Indian father, Cuyloga. The Lenni Lenape
planned an attack against the whites. The Lenni Lenape sent True Son in to attract the whites. Once
the whites were close enough, True Son warned them to go back. Since True Son did that, he ... Show

One is that True Son took a swing at Del Hardy in the movie. While on the other hand, True Son just
sat there and didn t do anything. Another difference between the book and the movie was that True
Son dropped and ate a the Mandrake Root instead of the May Apple like he did in the book. Next
difference was that True Son had no other siblings in the movie. In the book he had a younger brother
named Gordie. To go along with character difference, there was a servant to Aunt Kate and Uncle
Wilse in the movie named Shenandoah. Another difference was that True Son s mother put on a dance
for True Son so, that he could meet a girl and fancy her. At the party, Myra Butler put a ring in the
cake and had True Son give it to the person he liked the

The Themes Of Death And Death
Cambridge Hinds
Big Question Paper
The Meaning of Death
The themes of life and death are used frequently throughout many ancient and modern stories, and
specifically, thoughts on death and what it means differ from author to author, time period to time
period, and circumstance to circumstance. Many works of ancient literature address the meaning of
death directly; examples include the drama Medea by ancient Greek playwright Euripides in 431 BCE,
and the Decameron by Italian Giovanni Boccaccio in around 1353. As well as being popular themes in
ancient literature, however, death is used for significant meaning in modern novels, movies, TV
shows, and other forms of storytelling and entertainment. A good example of this is the movie The
Book of Life, directed by Jorge R. Gutierrez.
Dictionary.com defines death as: ...the total and permanent cessation of all the vital functions of an
organism. In many religions, death is a transition from this world to another, whether it be for better or
worse. In our modern western society, death has many different views; it can be a bittersweet occasion
as well as a tragic one, depending on circumstances. As seen in Medea, the Decameron, and The Book
of Life, death always means an end to life, and an ultimate severance from the living. However, these
texts provide very different views of death, as well. Respectively, it means tragic revenge, a feared
end, and reconciliation as well as separation.
In the tragedy Medea, death is central to

Organizational Theories and their Applicability in Other...
Up until the 21 century, the majority of the published literature scrutinizing and modeling
organizational theories and their use in the workplace to maximize performance, were developed
exclusively in the United States. However, greater awareness of international workplace culture has
made it clear that these theories, which were modeled after American companies, are not as
universally applicable as researchers assumed. As American management and leadership theories,
these philosophies reflect an inherent bias, incorporating American values, motivations, and
expectations. As such, variations across cultures and their impact on organizations can make
implementation of these concepts completely inappropriate in another culture, while fully ... Show

However, inherent in this theory is the assumption that the highest order need is self actualization.
Maslow created his hierarchy of needs from a highly individualistic perspective as the United States is
a highly individualistic nation. The needs and drives of those in individualistic societies tend to be
more self centered than those in collectivist societies, focusing on improvement of the self, epitomized
as self actualization. In collectivist societies, the social needs of acceptance, harmony, and community
outweigh the needs for freedom and individuality. If the same manager were an expatriate in Japan,
and decided to promote one of his employees, it is likely the promotion would in fact diminish the
employee s performance. Nancy Adler, author of International Dimensions of Organizational
Behavior, explains why: Japanese have a high need for harmony to fit in with their work colleagues.
The promotion, an individualistic reward, separated the [employee] from his colleagues, embarrassed
him, and therefore diminished his motivation to work (Adler, 191). In another scenario, Maslow also
argues that a person who is deficient in all of the basic needs would likely crave their physiological
needs above all else. When Hurricane Katrina devastated the people of New Orleans in 2005, victims
of the flood were left deficient in several of

Goblin Nest Essay
So that is what a goblin looks like, Erland scrunched his brow as he overlooked a group of three
goblins moving through the forest.
The goblins were three feet tall, about the same height as Erland and his group of friends that now
camped the spot over which this particular trio of goblins marched under. Their strength was probably
greater than theirs and they tended to move in large groups. This was just a wayward group searching
for a meal. A goblin nest was discovered by some hunters and tomorrow a group of warriors from the
tribe were going to go and exterminate it, Erland wanted to be among those to get kills before the
goblins were erased.
Individually they goblin is weak and more or less of a threat as that of a small child, together however

a group to pull the cord into position and lock it. They barely had the united strength to do so, but it
got done and they could move on once the job was done.
This time they came across a group of four, all of them bore clubs except for one, that one bore a
spear.
Langly, Erland spoke as the goblins approached their perch in the bushed. Use the bolts on the one
with the spear, they fall in behind us, use your sling to keep them from recovering.
The boy nodded and readied a crossbow, his aim was directed fully in the head of the spear bearer.
Get ready, he continued tensing his body as did the others who would join in his charge. On your mark

Trials and Tribulations of a Homosexual Essay
The history of the gay rights movement has been a hard fought battle within the United States. In fact
the first gay rights movement dates back to 1924 with the creation of The Society for Human Rights in
Chicago, Illinois. It wasn t until the 1960 s that gay rights started to make progress. In the year 1969
The Stonewall Riots took place when gay, lesbian, and transgender patrons of a New York bar were
raided by the police. This forever changed the movement from isolated incidents to a world wide
phenomenon.
As generations proceeded, institutions such as the American Psychiatric Society began to classify
homosexuality as a disease, which was later retracted in the 1970 s and was no longer considered a
mental disorder. At this time ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These same people who oppose homosexuality then influence their children who act in the same
manner in which they do. Students today learn words such as queer and fag all too soon and teach
other students to tease and taunt those who may possess slightly feminine characteristics this in turn
causes the said student to have absolutely no self esteem and to view his or herself in a unhealthy and
unnatural way. Complete acceptance of homosexuality will probably never be gained within society
however there are still various adversities homosexuals must endure more than heterosexuals, such as
anti gay bullying within school systems, various types of discrimination, and ultimately fighting for
their basic rights.
As a child they must deal with certain factors that they cannot change no matter how hard they try. For
example eye color, hair color, height, weight, and so on and so forth. Then based on these factors it is
determined whether a child is liked in school by others. However there is another factor, that
determines if a child is liked, and that is, whether a student is gay . Students nowadays judge one
another solely based on belief if someone is gay . Children use the gay word out of context everyday
and the effects of their harmful slander can be detrimental.
Teachers and principles may refer to this as just normal bullying,

Involvement In Gangs
This paper will examine the factors that contribute youth to involve in criminal gangs. It aims to look
at social disorganization theory as well as rational choice theory to understand youth and their
involvement in gangs. Three main factors that this paper will be focusing on and studying thoroughly
are the effects of parental supervision, the community the youth is raised in and peer influence.
Despite many programs that are instilled to ensure that youth are helped with delinquency, there are
still many influences such as parental supervision, community and peer influence that can sway youth
and their decision to join a gang. Based on this discussion, this paper will argue that the ways that
children are educated and raised at a young age

Gates Vs Cambridge Police Case Study
Gates vs. The Cambridge Police: The Cause of Controversy
On July 20, 2009 a police dispatcher received a call from a concerned woman who believed a robbery
was in progress. Lucia Whalen, the witness, reported seeing two black males with backpacks trying to
gain entry into the home. From there police were immediately sent to the residence on Ware Street to
investigate the situation. At around 12:45 P.M. Sergeant James Crowley met with the woman who
placed the 9 1 1 call. In the police report, he stated that he had become aware of an older, black male
standing in the foyer as he was speaking with Lucia Whalen outside . The man, later identified as
Henry Louis Gates, Jr., was the owner of the residential home located on 17 Ware Street in ... Show

faults out of fear of being known as intolerant or racist . Henry Gates attributed the incident to his
black skin, along with Barrack Obama, the black community and the media which circulated the
incident resulting in more racial conflict and division. If the Sergeant was indeed driven by racist
intent then the man who teaches diversity ethics to all the new cadets is in the wrong profession and
needs to reevaluate his call of duty. In conjunction to the officers actions to continue to question the

when you fail to comply and shout accusations based on bias. Situations are going to arise that might

Interpretation Of Seismic Data Recorded By Earthquake...
CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION
1.1 Motivation
Interpretation of seismic data recorded by earthquake seismographs and that obtained in seismic
reflection surveys conducted in the search for hydrocarbons presents a great challenge. The challenge
lies in constructing appropriate models of the subsurface to extract as many properties of the
subsurface rocks as possible and then solving the associated forward modeling problem followed by
design of suitable inversion methods to extract the desired information. Simple models do not involve
very complex mathematics but yield only limited information about the subsurface. The degree of
mathematical sophistication increases with more realistic models of subsurface rocks.
Simple models of subsurface assume rocks to be homogeneous, isotropic and perfectly elastic. Rocks
actually encountered in the subsurface do not exhibit any of these ideal characteristics. Rocks consist
of a number of minerals with varying properties and grain sizes leading to point to point variation of
their physical properties thus exhibiting a high degree of inhomogeneity.
Even if rocks are regarded as homogeneous on a large scale, they may exhibit directional dependence
of their physical properties. It is known that a stack of thin homogeneous and isotropic layers can be
replaced with a homogeneous but anisotropic medium in which seismic wave velocities differ in the
vertical and horizontal directions. Another situation that leads to anisotropy is the existence of

The Literary Works That I Will Be Featuring
The two literary works that I will be featuring are a short story and novel; both set centuries apart yet,
connect with one another in linguistic principles. Both horror writers and with this genre, semantics
can be quite fascinating. Both King and Poe, focus on the various levels of semantics horror and
psychological. The semantic perspective of Christine are that of modern day slang, teenage
symbolism. With semantic idioms and jokes, you would see the humor behind the man with the scary
mask. Christine s characters are teenagers, besides the a little parental irresponsibility, with these
hormonal teens, plus Christine. Arnie and Dennis, were full of idioms, such as, I just had this call to
nature, or I gotta take a whiz! (King) Some commonly used idioms were most directly, ones of love
and anger. Arnie due to the possession or should I say obsession of Christine, his vocabulary goes
from chess club nerb to garage bralling bully. The bully, Repperton was as rough and ignorant as they
come and he spoke like it. Keep your jock on, man or as Dennis put it, Eat me raw through a Flavor
Straw! (King) These guys were the kings of semantic idioms. The semantic perspective is about
understanding meaning in words and their sentence structure. Shifts in meaning changes, especially
with slang words. The meaning of this popular American English culture novel was a metaphorical
teenage love triangle. For Poe, his short story, The Tell Tale Heart would be dramatically

The Extract By Junot Diaz Essay
The extract How to Date a Brown Girl by Junot Diaz basically explains a detailed instruction on how
to deal with females of different races. It is filled with gender stereotypes throughout the extract where
most of these stereotypes are not justified. The protagonist would like others to believe that he is a
girls man or girls dem sugar according to Beenie Man. Is he such a girls man if he is worried that a
girl would not turn up to a date? Is he a true girls man if he sees all the possible things that could go
wrong during the date?
One would argue that his views and stereotypes are all wrong and race does not determine
promiscuity. It is not fair to say that all white girls are open to explore their sexuality. It is not fair to
say that you are guaranteed to get a hand job from any white girl once you get her alone. One can
argue that all his views about women are due to what he heard and not based on his experience of
being a male.
Noting that most main stream pornographic movies are those of white women, maybe the notion that
white women are opened to their sexuality is not too far off. Maybe there is some truth behind this
stereotype, and maybe there is not any truth to it at all.
Within this extract, there are strong elements that suggest various degrees of respectability and
reputation, along with a very small aspect of sexual objectification of women. Today we see the
objectification of women in media ever so often that it becomes normal and almost

  • 2. Adaptive Behavior Test Questions What tests are used to assess students? There are several tests I use to assess students Kindergarten to second grade: 1. Seek to understand the family and where they are coming from. 5. What is your school s process for identifying students with special needs? (See Appendix A for diagrams the school psychologist draw during this part of the conversation). The process we use is called RTI. All students start with the universal screening (MAP, DIBELS, DRA, DSA). If the score is at or above benchmark, the instruction continues as followed. If not, the intervention implemented and progress monitoring occurs. If the student gets at or above benchmark with the interventions implemented, the student graduates to the regular instruction. If not, an RTI grade level meeting occurs to check progress. Then it is decided to intensify or adjust an intervention that was already in place. From here, a student can graduate or an SPMC (student progress monitoring conference) takes place to take an individual problem solving approach. To this meeting attend parent(s), teachers, principal, psychologist, and any other team member necessary. From this meeting, an intervention is designed for the specific child and others factors may be addressed as well (home environment, etc.). Progress is monitor again and the student may graduate. If not, a disability may be suspected and there may be the need to assess more. A consent for evaluation is needed prior to testing the student. Parents need to be on board with the ... • 3. The Importance Of Historical Events In The Diary Of Anne... Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party killed millions of people in the short time of six years during World War II. Other people, such as Anne Frank and her family, tried to avoid the cruel intentions of the Nazis by hiding in an annex for two years. The historical events of World War II affected the lives of Anne and the others hiding in the annex. Historical events in The Diary of Anne Frank causes extensive changes to the drama. Two primary changes that occur due to historical events are the character s traits and the mood of the drama. The taking of Jews in Amsterdam caused a difference in the mood of the drama. The Jews were arrested and then sent off to concentration camps by the Nazi soldiers and the people in the annex had no idea until Mr. Dussel came to the annex and told them. The people hiding in the annex were unaware of what was happening outside. Other than very little food and privacy issues they had very few problems. After learning that people they know were being taken, consequently results in them going into shock. They now know how serious their situation is. Mr. Van Daan, you don t realize what is happening outside that you should warn me of a thing like that. You don t realize what is going on.... Right here in Amsterdam everyday, hundreds of Jews disappear... They surround a block and search house by house. Children come home from school to find their parents gone. Hundreds are being deported...people that you and I know....the Hallensteins....the Wessels.. (Hackett, 130). This clearly shows that the historical event of the Jews starting to be taken told to them by Mr. Dussel affects the drama s mood. Before this news the people in the annex don t have a lot of worries or problems. Then, they learn that Jews, even people they know, are being arrested. This affects the mood of the drama from smaller, less serious problems leading to going into shock and becoming much more serious and scared of their situation and lives. Other historical events also affect the drama in different ways. Another way the drama was alternated was when the news of the invasion finally reached the annex. Miep brought the news of the begging of the invasion in Normandy. Before Miep brought the news that the invasion had ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Differences Between The Bodhisattva In The Davis Museum Another more obvious difference between the Bodhisattva in the Davis Museum is the coloring of each. Unfortunately, time has worn away most of the paint on these heads, but the left Bodhisattva shows more remnants of the original painting, including a small wavy mustache. Red paint can still be seen in the headdress, the urna and the lines of the neck. Both heads have dark paint outlining the eyebrows and the eyes, offering the viewer a look into Gandharan culture. One can see the hair was once painted black based on the left Bodhisattva s hair which still contains some of the dark pigment. While most of the paint has worn away, the naturalistic sculpting style allows the life of the Bodhisattvas to remain intact without the added color. The sculptures appear dynamic due to the use of lines and shadows in order to further one s sense of naturalism. The eye sockets are set deep into each head which causes a shadow to fall over the eyes due to the brow ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The stucco heads are examples of the novel art that was formed when art from different countries was allowed to influence each other. This is visibly illustrated by the Davis Museum placing the Gandharan heads between the South Asian and Mediterranean exhibits, symbolizing the mixing of the various art forms. While the informational cards about the Bodhisattvas are helpful tools, they must be taken with a grain of salt. Whatever is printed on the informational cards must be questioned and analyzed instead of believed to be the truth. The museum controls the informational cards and thus, controls the narrative that the audience will learn about each piece. Nonetheless, it is critical to be curious about the circumstances surrounding museums and their collections so in the future, such questionable practices won t be tolerated and important cultural pieces will no longer be taken from their origin ... • 5. Influenza Pandemic Of 1918 Essay From 1918 1919, the influenza virus swept the world and had disastrous effects. Different factor contributed to the spread of the virus. Many religious groups believed the virus was an evil that had fallen on the land and that only God can save them. Others caught the disease due to the lack of sanitary prevention, such as there being no inspections in the trading ports. Also many people were ignorant and knowledgeable about the pandemic because of the lack of response from health/government officials. In all, the lack of authority was a huge contributing factor to the spread of the influenza virus. The Great War helped create the influenza pandemic of 1918, and due to the close quarter s nature of military service and trench warfare that helped the virus spread. Army recruits in World War One were brought together from a wide range of backgrounds to live in close proximity in army camps, barracks, troop ships and trench dugouts. • 7. Essay on Christian and Muslim Religious Tolerance FWIS 104 Christian and Muslim Religious Tolerance It is ironic that while they are based on similar scriptures, and therefore similar ideologies, Christianity and Islam have had divergent attitudes towards the acceptance of religious minorities. By its nature, the Christian faith antagonizes other religions, including Judaism and Islam, because, according to Christian scripture, a lack of belief in the divinity of Jesus Christ results in damnation. The Muslim faith, however, has a much more tolerant view on People of the Book, including Christians and Jews, since such tolerance is stipulated by Islamic scripture. Subsequent treatment (as opposed to acceptance) of religious minorities, however, was similar between followers of the two ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These taxes also served as an economic incentive for religious coexistence and toleration. In the dhimmi system (which was in itself Islamic law that extended rights and protections to religious minorities of the book ) it is stated that [the People of the Book] must be shown gentleness (page 4) as long as they have paid their tax in full. In the conquest treaty, the People of the Book are even guaranteed religious freedom under the condition they pay the jizya. It states, Their churches shall neither be used as dwellings nor destroyed... No constraint shall be exercised against them in religion nor shall any harm be done to any of them. The restrictions against non Muslims were typically mild. In the Shurut Umar, Christians were restricted from teaching or publicly expressing their religion. Other secular restrictions (as opposed to restrictions on religious freedom expression) include not seek[ing] to resemble the Muslims by imitating any of their garments (page 13) and not sell[ing] fermented drinks, both much milder alternatives to religious violence. Likewise, there have been instances of Christians encouraging peace towards religious minorities. For example, Saint Augustine cites a verse from Psalm 59 as his main inspiration for relative tolerance: He is my God. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. How Did Bob Dylan Live 1966 handclapped during his performances. The tour became a confrontation between Dylan and his audience, especially during one of his concerts at the Manchester Free Trade Hall in England on May 17, 1966. A recording of this concert was released in 1998: The Bootleg Series Vol. 4: Bob Dylan Live 1966. Near the end of the concert, and during the the climax of the evening, a member of the audience, who was apparently angered by Dylan s electric backing, shouted directly to Bob: Judas! to which Dylan quickly responded, I don t believe you ... You re a liar! Dylan turned to his band and screamed, Play it fucking loud! as they exploded into the final song of the night, Like a Rolling Stone . During this tour, Dylan was described as exhausted and acting as if on a death trip . The film maker D. A. Pennebaker who was accompanying the tour, described Dylan as taking a lot of amphetamine and who knows what else. In an 1969 interview, Dylan said, I was on the road for almost five years. Dylan confirmed this interpretation in his autobiography: I had been in a motorcycle accident and I d been hurt, but I recovered. Truth was that I wanted to get out of the rat race. Generation View Of Reality Essay Generation s View of Reality Ben Stiller s 1994 film, Reality Bites, portrays the broad based struggles of America s twentysomethings through a lighthearted glimpse into the lives of the movie s main characters. Four friends, recently graduated from college, find themselves over educated and under employed, a theme reiterated in the lives of many Generation Xers according to critic Marilyn Gardner. She states, unemployment is higher for those under 25 then it is for the workforce as a whole. (pg. 14, col. 1) Though Reality Bites bills itself as a comedy about love in the 90 s, the film is more of a commentary on the issues facing young adults today (Kempley, Sec. C., pg 7). • 14. Anti-Slavery Rhetoric In Fredrick Douglas, Angelina Grimke... Name: Professor: Class: Date: Analysis of Anti Slavery Rhetoric Fredrick Douglas, Angelina Grimke, and Henry David Thoreau were well known abolitionists who spoke against the issue of slavery to various extents during the course of their lives. They did so in written forms through books or orally through speeches. Either way, their anti slavery rhetoric was meant to move people and galvanize them to fight for a better tomorrow where equality would take charge and the issue of slavery would be no more. To accomplish this, these abolitionists utilized a variety of methods of persuasion within their rhetoric so as to be able to more effectively influence others and compel them to take positive action. These methods of persuasion are; ethos, pathos, and logos. On the flip side, the abolitionists also made various types of claims (fact, value, and policy) as they delivered their rhetoric. This paper briefly examines the effectiveness of the persuasion methods used as well as the appropriateness with regard to the claims made. Pathos is a method of persuasion that tries to convince the audience by targeting their emotions. Fredrick Douglas, in his speech what to the slave is the fourth of July? Dominantly uses pathos as a method of persuasion. He states that he has been through slavery, escaped from it, and now constantly fears going back to it (Douglas 3). The emotions that he elicits through these observations gives him a solid platform on which to attack the emotions of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Part B of the experiment resulted in the identification of Barium. The presence of Barium was confirmed in Step 13, with the formation of the white BaSO4 precipitates in the orange solution. Alternatively, one cation can potentially conceal the identity of the others.3 If this experiment were to have been repeated, micropipettes would be used instead of the standard pipettes to increase the accuracy when withdrawing fluids. We live in a world that stigmatizes women on a daily basis, and the music industry plays no less of a significant role in reinforcing some of those stigmas. One apparent stigma that the current music industry is promoting is the infantilization of women. Infantilization is the act of treating an adult as a child, and thus denying her or his maturity. Equating women with children, and treating them as if they are weak and dependent is something we can clearly see in pop music. Whether it was through presenting women in infantilized positions in music videos or using infantilizing terms in lyrics, pop music plays a big role in shaping our inaccurate perception of women. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Then, I will present the results in graphs and tables and discuss them. I plan to split my discussion into two parts parallel to the survey s parts. I predict that the participants would describe the women in the infantilized song lyrics and music videos as childlike and dependent. If my prediction was true, I would use the discussion parts to explain the powerfulness of music in shaping the perception of women in our society. In my discussion, I will incorporate the findings of Huot s and Carlson s research that go along with my predicted finding. I will also use the examples of the infantilization of women in pop culture that are shown in The Codes of Gender; a documentary film, written and directed by Sut Jhally, that focuses on the American s pop culture role in shaping the stereotypical ideas about femininity and masculinity. Also in this section, I will discuss other effects that resulted from the infantilization of women in music. I will use Alanna Vagianos s Huffington post article Drake s Hotline Bling Just Got A Genius Feminist Makeover, to help me provide an example. In this article, Vagianos presents the story of a 27 year old woman named Javetta Laster who was affected by the infantilizing lyrics of the hit song Hotline Bling, and decided to rewrite the lyrics in a more accurate way. One example of Laster s rewritten lyrics shows how the original one was presenting an infantilized look of women; the original lyric says: Why you never alone? Why you always touching road? Used to stay at home, be a good girl. You was in the zone, yeah, while Laster s edited feminist version of the same lyric says: You used to stay at home and be someone I saw fitting into the patriarchal expectations of women to be infantilized good girls which is some bizarre father/daughter husband/wife dynamic left over from women being considered adult children property. • 25. The Themes Of Death And Death Cambridge Hinds Big Question Paper The Meaning of Death The themes of life and death are used frequently throughout many ancient and modern stories, and specifically, thoughts on death and what it means differ from author to author, time period to time period, and circumstance to circumstance. Many works of ancient literature address the meaning of death directly; examples include the drama Medea by ancient Greek playwright Euripides in 431 BCE, and the Decameron by Italian Giovanni Boccaccio in around 1353. As well as being popular themes in ancient literature, however, death is used for significant meaning in modern novels, movies, TV shows, and other forms of storytelling and entertainment. A good example of this is the movie The Book of Life, directed by Jorge R. Gutierrez. Dictionary.com defines death as: ...the total and permanent cessation of all the vital functions of an organism. In many religions, death is a transition from this world to another, whether it be for better or worse. In our modern western society, death has many different views; it can be a bittersweet occasion as well as a tragic one, depending on circumstances. As seen in Medea, the Decameron, and The Book of Life, death always means an end to life, and an ultimate severance from the living. However, these texts provide very different views of death, as well. Respectively, it means tragic revenge, a feared end, and reconciliation as well as separation. However, greater awareness of international workplace culture has made it clear that these theories, which were modeled after American companies, are not as universally applicable as researchers assumed. As such, variations across cultures and their impact on organizations can make implementation of these concepts completely inappropriate in another culture, while fully ... Maslow created his hierarchy of needs from a highly individualistic perspective as the United States is a highly individualistic nation. The needs and drives of those in individualistic societies tend to be more self centered than those in collectivist societies, focusing on improvement of the self, epitomized as self actualization. In collectivist societies, the social needs of acceptance, harmony, and community outweigh the needs for freedom and individuality. If the same manager were an expatriate in Japan, and decided to promote one of his employees, it is likely the promotion would in fact diminish the employee s performance. Nancy Adler, author of International Dimensions of Organizational Behavior, explains why: Japanese have a high need for harmony to fit in with their work colleagues. The promotion, an individualistic reward, separated the [employee] from his colleagues, embarrassed him, and therefore diminished his motivation to work (Adler, 191). In another scenario, Maslow also argues that a person who is deficient in all of the basic needs would likely crave their physiological needs above all else. • 32. Interpretation Of Seismic Data Recorded By Earthquake... CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION 1.1 Motivation Interpretation of seismic data recorded by earthquake seismographs and that obtained in seismic reflection surveys conducted in the search for hydrocarbons presents a great challenge. The challenge lies in constructing appropriate models of the subsurface to extract as many properties of the subsurface rocks as possible and then solving the associated forward modeling problem followed by design of suitable inversion methods to extract the desired information. Simple models do not involve very complex mathematics but yield only limited information about the subsurface. The degree of mathematical sophistication increases with more realistic models of subsurface rocks. Simple models of subsurface assume rocks to be homogeneous, isotropic and perfectly elastic. Rocks actually encountered in the subsurface do not exhibit any of these ideal characteristics. Rocks consist of a number of minerals with varying properties and grain sizes leading to point to point variation of their physical properties thus exhibiting a high degree of inhomogeneity. Even if rocks are regarded as homogeneous on a large scale, they may exhibit directional dependence of their physical properties. It is known that a stack of thin homogeneous and isotropic layers can be replaced with a homogeneous but anisotropic medium in which seismic wave velocities differ in the vertical and horizontal directions.
