Compare And Contrast Renaissance And Humanism
Renaissance, which means rebirth in French, might be defined as the awakening of art, literature,
architecture and learning in Europe between fourteenth and mid sixteenth centuries through the
contribution of classical sources. Despite the fact that it was originated in Italy, it started to spread
throughout Europe and contributed to the transition from the Medieval Age to the modern one.
Proponents of this movement emphatically connected themselves with the values of classical
antiquity, especially as seen in the recently rediscovered works of art of writing and history.
Additionally, they had a tendency to separate themselves from works written in the Middle Ages, a
historical period they looked upon rather negatively. According to them, the Middle Ages were set
in the center of two significantly profitable periods. In the same way, Humanism, which has an ideal
of placing human beings at the center of the universe rather than God, was the major intellectual
movement of the Renaissanceand then it became the dominant sophisticated movement in Europe in
the 16th century. Supporters of this movement asserted that humanistic studies, comprising of the
examination and imitation of the established culture of Ancient Rome and... Show more content on

As mentioned by Wilde, one of the most significant changes that occurred during the Renaissance
was the evolution of Renaissance humanism as a method of thinking. During this period, people
actually started to think differently and change how they thought about humanity, art, science and
other fields. Therefore, due to their spread throughout the Europe with the cultural aspects by
affecting painting, literature and science, Renaissance and Humanism had several influences on the
people in terms of enhancing the way people look at the

Pleasantville Biblical Refrences Essay
The movie Pleasantville (Produced and directed by Gary Ross in 1988) is more than just your
ordinary film. Pleasantville sends a message within a message. Not only is it a great film, (made
popular by New Line Cinema) it contains numerous biblical references. Some of the biblical
references in this film may be easier to see and understand than others. But when asked to analyze
this film and critique the biblical references you will understand just how many there are.
To me the most obvious relation to the bible is in a scene where the main character David (Tobey
Maguire) is the first to see a fire that breaks out in a tree in his front yard. Ironically enough, the
tree is on fire, but is not consumed by the flames, it s burning but ... Show more content on

The serpent eventually persuades Eve to eat from the Tree of Knowledge . After she eats from it,
she has Adam eat from it. Shortly after, they finally notice they are naked and become self
conscious and cover up. God then asks about what they have done and Eve blames Adam, while
Adam blames the Serpent. God curses them, and makes Eve suffer through labor and banishes both
of them from the Garden of Eden. The relation in the movies comes from a scene in the end
involving David and another girl from his school. Color starts to fill Pleasantville, and the girl
he is sitting with in the lawn gets up and grabs a fruit of off the tree, and then she hands the fruit
to David to eat, much like Eve did with Adam. As soon as they ate the fruit, it started to rain in
Pleasantville for the first time ever, symbolizing God s anger, and color now completely filled
Pleasantville. The discovery in books also reminds me of the Tree of Knowledge of good and evil ,
the books being good, and the reading of them being evil because it made people curious to as
what else was out in the real world. Therefore there is an effect in both cases, the biblical one, and
also the movie.
Pleasantville, (before David and Jennifer) is a dream world if you will, everyone is always happy
and there are never any conflicts with anyone. Once the two of them arrive however, everything
changes. In Pleasantville everything is black and white, but after Jennifer has sex

Picard s Argument Analysis
I learned so much from our guest speaker, Andre Picard, the Globe and Mail s Public Health
reporter. He made me rethink my whole perspective on patients right with his talk about assisted
suicide and abortion. Contrary to popular belief, doctors are not bound by the Hippocratic Oath.
However, they may choose to do so and follow it. Consequently, this means that they can refuse
assisted suicideas it harms someone s life. What really struck me was when he said that he
believed that a patients rights should triumph doctors oath to protect and save. This was appalling
to me at first, but after giving it more thought it made sense. I was able to piece together what he
meant by that as the right to have a choice gives people autonomy and dignity... Show more content

It is a right that is often overlooked. I agreed with Picard when he provided that the right to die
is in a way a symbolic right that we should have as it gives us a choice if certain requirements are
met. I also found it interesting that the concern of the slippery slope is not always the case
/problem. After the discussion, I saw my perspective change as I began to agree and see where
Picard was coming from. In the end, I also found myself agreeing with the premise that the patients
right triumph over the right of doctors to reject if death is imminent. The consumer movement was
something I never heard off and was surprised of having learned that the language around
differentiating cancer varied (e.g. taboo to say breast cancer, so they used to say women s
cancer ). Over time, people progressed and moved away from that as cancer became a more
discussed topic. Especially with the terry Fox, the movement was brought into public view.
Overall, I found Andre Picard had great thoughts on public policy and how human rights will
evolve over time. As he asserted in class, people will come out and discusses their story before
the public even if it is a private matter just to advance the right. He used to example of Rodriguez
and how she brought forth a court case to show the public that this issue needs to be examined even
though she eventually ended her life through an illegal physician assisted

The, Gift Of God s Grace
Chapter 17 Assignment #3 (Ryan Cho) 17.3
Joseph II of Austria, Toleration Patent 1781, pogroms, Pietism, John Wesley, Methodism, gift of
God s grace
1)Joseph II of Austria. Joseph II of Austria was emperor of the Holy Roman Empire from 1765 to
1790, and served as ruler of Habsburg from 1780 to 1790. Joseph strongly emphasized an
enlightened version of absolutism, which gained him much needed support at the time. During his
tenure, Joseph sough truly radical changes in government through Enlightenment ideas. His
commitment to modernizing reforms, although, endangered him and allowed significant opposition
to gain power against him. For that reason, he never fully implemented his plans of absolutism, as
he died without an heir to the throne.
2)Toleration Patent 1781. The Toleration Patent of 1781, also known as the Edict of Toleration,
was an edict that was issued in 1781 by Joseph II of Austria. The edict allowed members of
minority faiths (not of Christianity, for example, Protestant religions) to perform religious practices
without being persecuted. This was very important for minority faiths it finally allowed them
religious freedom and separation from the Church, which led to the growth of Protestant populations
3)Pogroms. A pogrom is a somewhat organized, and violent riot or massacre aimed against a
specific group or ethnicity. One, for example, was aimed specifically at the Jews. The word

Presented exhibits determine four main segments of the cruise tourism market contemporary,
premium, luxury and destinations. The pattern of market segmentation in this market can be
described as clustered preferences based on the natural market segments which will be discussed. It
is important to note that major players in the industry develop several brands allowing them to cater
to the different segments. Cruisers who fall under the contemporary segment account for up to 50%
of the industry. The psychographicdescriptions provided in exhibit eight label them as escapers
(30%), souvenirs (10%) and adrift (10%). All three of these groups are similar in descriptive and
behavioural characteristics. Being the most significant of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This segment should be given priority after the contemporary segment because the two have
commonalities that can be marketed on the Oasis to deliver value which would satisfy their
social needs individually. The luxury and destinations segments are similar in that both of them
target the upper class or those with healthy disposable incomes including retirees that are at a
stage in their lifecycle allowing them to take longer, exclusive cruises often. People on these
cruises demand the finest quality in all respects. A formal atmosphere with refined white glove
service, along with personalized service accounts for value and satisfaction. Psychologically, these
users are above all and deserve the best of the best. Therefore, their lifestyles allow them to be
regular and heavy users of cruise vacations. Based on their preference, it can be assumed that
these segments are hard core or split loyal to the brands they choose because their attitudes are
very enthusiastic towards the type of experience they expect and may be hostile towards anything
less. The type of ship is small for both segments, representing the small percentage of the market
occupied. Therefore, little priority should be placed on targeting these segments. Users that decide
to buy this cruise package will be for the sole psychographic reason of social status to

As eBay is a web based company dealing with commerce (the buying and selling of products), the
organization requires very little public advertising as most of the organization s advertisements are
circulated throughout the internet. However, there are still quite a number of public advertising
that can be seen throughout the world. eBay advertisement on the streets

Personal Selling
During the starting years of eBay, Pierre Omidyar adopted a very simple approach into selling,
which is, there is always a market for any product that you are selling, the only challenge is in
finding that right target market.
So instead of establishing a retail store that simply deals with the buying and selling of products,
Pierre instead adopted the approach of getting people connected from all over the world.
Over 40 Million products are sold over eBay, not through their own manufacturing power but rather
through the collective collection of the people, distributors, and manufacturers.
Furthermore, for a fact that there a number of manufacturers whom are registered users that are
selling directly to consumers is also a form of personal selling.

The Theory And The Psychoanalytic Theory
Although used predominantly to explain the varying characteristics each individual possesses,
personality is also a term often coined to define and explain the reasons behind an individual s
motivations and reactions to certain events, entities and decisions. Defined by Larson Buss, 2005,
personality is the set of psychological traits and mechanisms within the individual that are organised
and relatively enduring, and that influence his or her interaction with, and adaptions to, the
intrapsychic, physical and social environments. As personality encompasses such a wide array of
concepts, there are many competitive theories battling to explain these dynamic ideas. Of these
theories, is the unorthodox Psychoanalytic theory, developed by... Show more content on

In contrast, the humanistic approach emphasised the conscious awareness of needs, choices and
personal responsibilities of the individual (Lahey, 2009). They believed that the personal worth of
the particular individual, the centrality of human values, and the creative and active nature of
human beings was what defined the person (McLeod, 2007). Basically, the humanistic approach,
according to Abraham Maslow, was that humans are born good and that human nature is
compassionate and positive (Larsen Buss, 2012).
Both the psychoanalytic and humanistic theories differ from one another in multiple ways. One of
the most prominent differences is their view on human nature. As mentioned above, Freud and his
psychoanalytic concept, viewed humans as inherently bad. The id, he defined, operated solely on
the pleasure principle, craving immediate gratification without consideration about moral values
and the harm it could cause (McLeod, 2008). He also believed that the ego and the superego was
the minds way of controlling the id ((Lahey, 2009; Larsen Buss, 2012; McLeod, 2008).
In contrast, humanistic psychologists viewed human nature as fundamentally good. Maslow had a
positive view on men, believing that each had the ability to grow and mature into proper beings,
and make use of their full potential (Boeree, 2000 Larsen Buss, 2012). The main emphasis of the
humanistic approach, was that an individual has free will and this plays an important role in shaping

Heroes And Heroines Of The War
AUTHORSHIP This specific document titled Heroes and Heroines of the War was created by
Thomas Nast in 1864. Thomas Nast was born on September 27, 1840 in Germany, but six years
later his family moved to New York to start a fresh life. Even from a young age, Nast was an avid
drawer who later in life would make his greatest ambition into an occupation. He began his career
as a political cartoon artist for the Leslie s Illustrated in 1855 and then in 1859 continued his
passion of illustrating at Harper s Weekly. His work as an artist made a profound effect on many
individuals and impacted how America pondered certain subjects. Nast was a dedicated northerner
who believed the southern people were enemies who did not care for anything else,... Show more

The unity of the nation would become the concept that would have thought to be the ultimate cause
of the war. The compact of different states built a strong interconnected nation. By producing this
document, Nast hoped to encourage both men and women to stand for the reconstruction of the
unison between the North and the South. His desire was to rally the northern individuals to take
arms for President Lincoln and fight with their fellow brethren. Nast hoped to inspire people to
seek their desires of joining the Northern army in some valiant manner to create an abundant and
powerful mass. He certainly focused on the campaigning of women to take up the role of a nurse
or leader in fundraising on behalf of the union soldiers. Heroes and Heroines of the War reflected
the heart of what it means to be a contributor to society. The men of the North gathered together to
bear arms with one another and fight for the reconnection of the nation. The image revealed the
bravery of the men and the further need of assistance to win the battle. During this time period,
women were considered to be the nurturing and caring person in the household. The U.S. Sanitary
Commission allowed women to live up to their potential, but in a wider spectrum. Thomas Nast
valued the compassion and the will power that was portrayed in the Sanitary Commission. The
document demonstrated the value of women not just becoming a household concept, but spreading
to a national level. People of this era

On The Rainy River Essay
Soldiers that come back from war, tend to suffer from what they have gone through. Tim O
Brien, a soldier in the Vietnam war, wrote a best selling collection of short stories titled The
Things They Carried. He, along with other soldier tend to experience how delicate the human
heart can be. A heart is a very delicate sensitive part of the body and can really affect soldiers in
any way shape or form when it comes to a war.
Even before Tim O Brien stepped onto the battlefield, the war had already damaged his heart. In the
short story On the Rainy River Tim O Brien opened up a letter that would change his mind forever:

Mentally soldiers have to deal with brutal things that the war throws at them causing their hearts

contributed to Lavender s death. Because his feelings were so strong, he wasn t as focused as he
should ve been, which costed him a buddy. This is a true eye awakening in how powerful the heart
and the feelings that come along with it is. Cross could only think about Martha and yes, this

Revision of Master Narratives within Jane Eyre and Wide...
To be able to discuss adequately how the master narratives of Bronte and Rhys time are revised,
one must first understand what those master narratives were and what the social mood of the time
was. From there one will be able to discuss how they were revised, and if in fact they were revised
at all.
Bronte is known as one of the first revolutionary and challenging authoress with her text Jane Eyre.
The society of her time was male dominated, women were marginally cast aside and treated as
trophies for their male counterparts. Their main role in life was to be a mother and a wife,

Any sign of deviancy would be punished by the patriarchal system of that time, especially that of a
deviant girl. As the patriarch was entirely male, the oppression of the female gender was swift and
harsh.
At Lowood Jane ultimately has to conform to the rules and regulations of the male domination to
exist and live. Here she becomes a quiet...disciplined and subdued character. This time in Jane s life,
brings up questions and queries into whether Bronte does in fact revise master narratives, which I
will look at later on.
Throughout the course of the text this female character pulls herself up from no social standing
to somebody with a wealthy inheritance, eventually marrying the man she loves under her
conditions, without having to compromise her beliefs or herself. Jane s relationship with
Rochester is a key element of Bronte s revising the master narrative. She of course falls in love
with Rochester whilst she is a member of his staff, she has no independence of her own, whether
that be financial or otherwise. She ends up fleeing Thornfield, for despite her love of Rochester,
she wants to be equal, and knows he ultimately wants to master her. A sign of what a typical
Victorian marriage was like, in which the woman would submit to the man and obey his orders.
Bronte dissects this notion, as Jane does

Arabic Rituals and Traditions During Pregnancy
An Arab is defined as an individual who was born in an Arab country, speaks the Arabic
language, and shares the beliefs of an Arab culture (Kridli 2002). Many Arabs are very religious
and typically practice either Muslim or Christianity. There are 22 countries that make up the Arab
world they are located in the Middle East and Northern Africa. Did you know that there are about

Children are dearly loved (Durham 2014, p. 403), and large families are common. It is
important that the parents are not left childless and that the family name is carried on therefore
it is important to have more than one child. Sons are highly favorable because they provide
economic security, political strength, and endure social prestige (Kridli, 2002). If the first
pregnancy in a family results in a girl, the desire to try again is high, if this child is a girl, they
typically continue to try until they get a boy. If the first child is a boy, sometimes they will only
have one (Kridli, 2002). Kridli says that there are three main pressures to have children in the
Arabic culture, they include: 1. Traditional required for help and work in the fields and
caregivers for elderly parents, 2. Familial pressure to have kids to be able to preserve the family
name, 3. Religious desire to be fruitful and the belief in God and his powers to care for any
child that is conceived (2002). Children and family are so important in this culture that family
planning is only acceptable to space out children, it is not to be used to limit the size of a family.
The practice of sterilization is not used unless the mother is in poor health and it would
compromise subsequent pregnancies. Because family planning is not acceptable, knowledge on
proper use of contraceptives is unknown to many Arabic people. Arab Americans are more
accepting of contraceptives but need the education on options and importance of correct use
(Kridli 2002). Finding out the sex of the unborn child is believed to cause the evil eye. No one
knows what is in the womb but God (Kridli, 2002), he could potentially change the sex at any time
throughout the pregnancy.
Pregnancy is important in this culture marriage is dependent on fertility therefore she is not
confirmed wife until she has a baby (Kridli, 2002). Pregnancy in the Arabic culture is believed to be

Hair Blonde Stereotypes
Better Than a Blonde?
Do you think brunettes and redheads are superior? Well, think again. For years, blondes have been
associated with words such as dumb , needy , promiscuous and other unflattering adjectives. Even
with these unfortunate stereotypes, research proves that blondes may be the exact opposite. Those
with blonde hair are smarter, wealthier, and are genetically predispositioned to have attractive
qualities.
Blondes have been proven to be the most intelligent when compared to other hair shades. In a
study conducted by the Ohio State University where 10,878 females were surveyed, blonde
women enjoyed an average IQ of 103.2. Those with brown hair mustered a mere 102.7. Redheads
managed 101.2. And what s with black haired women? Theirs was an average IQ of 100.5
(Matyszezyk 2016). Blondes typically have a stigmatism associated with them, such as being dumb
and having little common sense. This stereotype often appears in the media, with numerous movies
focused around blonde women with little intelligence. While this doesn t automatically equate
directly to genetics, it can mean that blonde women are better set up for success. Research by the
National Longitudinal Survey of Youth shows that people with naturally blondhair were found to
have typically grown up in environments with more reading materials available to them, allowing
for more intellectual stimulation during their early growth period than people with other hair colors
had (Ricevuto 2016).

Segmentation helped to improve patient outcomes by targeting specific risk factors in a given

Introduction:
In this Lab report we will be using Red Cabbage extract as an indicator to determine the pH of
substances. The purpose of this experiment is to see if and how base and acids react. Indicators
are chemicals that change color depending on the pH solution that they are dissolved in. This
experiment will determine which items we use to determine ph. The pH of a solution indicates its
acidity or alkalinity. There is a ph. scale that determines if the items such as lemons or bleach are
an acid or a base. I have chosen to use red cabbage in this experiment so that I can know the range

The Crying Of Lot 49 Essay
In Thomas Pynchon s The Crying of Lot 49 was written during the 1960s when drugs were
becoming increasingly popular. The focus on drugs is one of the main themes of the novel and
plays a relevant supporting role in the development of the novel. The novel s other major themes
include the importance of communication and the division of society. This novels themes are
relevant to the society of the time period they were written in because in the 1960s when there was
a peak in political and social movements. The importance of communication is weaved all
throughout the novel, as we see Oedipa constantly receiving letters, that for some reason only make
the plot of the story more intricate rather than simplifying it. The story really begins when Oedipa
receives a simple letter that somehow ends up turning into a mystery that she nearly goes insane in
the process of figuring it out. The characters write letters that slightly reveal their thoughts but also
at the same time complicate the plot even more. This is significant because communication is and

Bank Regulation Of The Modern Day Economy
Bank regulation plays a vital part in the economy today and can be attributed for a lot of its
success. It has even been taken to the extent of individuals claiming bank regulation to be the
backbone of our modern day economy. To fully understand this topic it is first important to define
what bank regulations are. Bankregulations are a kind of government regulation that makes banks
liable to certain requirements, restrictions and guidelines. Bank regulation includes determining
specific regulations and guidelines to oversee all of the activities and operations of banking
organizations. Banking regulations can vary widely between nations and can even be changed due

You are an IT Network Specialist and are required to develop the design of the company s
telephone system for its new building which will begin construction in a few months. In order to
get a background which will help when developing the new system, your supervisor asked you to
research the current Plain Old Telephone Service (POTS) currently used by the company. You must
research the system components and report back to your supervisor , the Telecommunications
Manager, within a week.

4G networks offer 10 or more times the data transmission rate of a 3G network. The data rates
available on a 4G network allow the cell phone to access information from the Internet as fast as a
land line connection.
b. Telephone Network Topology:
i. Demarcation Point
The demarcation point, also known as the Demarc, Network Interface Device (NID), or Minimum
Point of Entry (MPOE) serves several purposes: It is the point that defines the end of the telephone
company s wiring, and the beginning of your wiring. It defines where the telephone company s
responsibility for maintenance ends and your responsibility begins.
It contains a surge suppressor to help protect the wiring and connected equipment in your facility
from damage It allows you to temporarily disconnect your wiring from the telephone company s
wiring for troubleshooting purposes.
Equipment
Cables making up the core networks need to go very long distances across many states within the
country. They typically follow well defined routes such as highways and railways.
Access Networks
An access network or outside plant refers to the series of wires, cables and equipment lying between
a consumer/business telephone termination point (the point at which a telephone connection

Skiing Is A Way Of Survival
As you stand at the top of a run and look down over the mountain; with twisting and turning
slopes, you feel at peace and connected with nature. This is what skiing can do for you; however,
it hasn t always been a way to get out and enjoy the mountain air. As a matter of fact, skiing used to
be mainly for survival.
Scientists have found rock art drawn by ancient civilizations in 8000 B.C. that depict people
skiing. Back in those days, it was the Scandinavians, Russians, and Altay Mountain folk that were
using some form of skis to travel vast distances and hunt; thus skiing was a way of survival. It
wasn t until about the 1860 s that Americans in Sierra Nevada started to use skis to race and have
fun. After that, well the rest is history skiing is now a significant leisure activity around the world.
However, there are important points in the history of skiing that made a considerable difference in
the ski world we know today.
It is still being debated where skiing originated, but it most likely the Tuvan s who developed
skiing within the Altay Mountains of China. Altay skis were made of wood with one end curled
upward, there were straps for your feet, and horsehide on the bottoms. The horse hair made the
skis grip when walking uphill, but then slide when going downhill. The Tuvan s also used a
single pole called a Taiyak for steering and balance. The skis were approximately 8 feet long and
skier used them by leaning back extremely far; making them gain speed quickly. This

Why Advertising Alcohol Is Destroying Public Well-Being Essay

Why Advertising Alcohol Is Destroying Public Well Being When I was nine years old, I remember
seeing the most delectable, mouthwatering commercial on television. It was for beer. Growing up in
a family that did not drink, I never thought beer could look so appetizing. The beverage was
everywhere I looked except for in my own fridge. Not only adults, but kids and teens everywhere
are being bombarded with alcohol advertisements. Many of these youths choose to succumb to
these ads and end up with destructive drinking habits. Not only is alcohol damaging to youth but
also to adults. According to a U.S. study, adults were found to put themselves at severe risk of
harm after having more than four drinks in one session (Medew). This number can change
depending on the gender, size, athleticism, and other factors of the consumer. Although some may
say that alcohol is not too damaging if drunk responsibly, the fact that alcohol is a direct route to
damaging organs like the liver, heart, and pancreas and harming the brain is a red flag
(NIHSeniorHealth). To whatever extent, alcohol weakens the brain s control over movement,
speech, memory, and especially judgement, which often leads to impulsive behavior and other
dangerous activities (NIHSeniorHealth). There are plenty of harmful side effects of drinking, so
the obvious solution to preserving the nation s well being is to not encourage it. One quote by a

Relations Between Nicaragua And The Western Hemisphere And...
Many foreign policy makers in the western hemisphere and other developing countries often behave
as if capitalism and democracy are inseparable. Nevertheless, there are some scholars that argue that
the relationship between this political and economic systems are not complicated. Democracy and
the market economy are two systems that are closely intertwined and mutually reinforcing or
weakening. Since both of them are related to freedom. If one of these systems is strengthened , the
other also strengthens and weakens if one weakens the other. Most Latin American countries,
including Nicaraguahave struggled to establish a democratic political system and have a capitalist

However, Nicaragua still struggles to show democracy as its political ideology. Thus,
jeopardizing the role of capitalism. In order to understand how democracy and capitalism have
thrived as a political ideology and economic system in the Republic of Nicaragua, people should
understand all the struggles that people in the country had to experience since 1979. After the
guerrillas took over the country, they overthrew the president and abolished the dictatorship that
Nicaragua had endured for a long time. After a couple of years, people in Nicaragua were finally
able to elect democratically who they wanted as their president. This was something that marked
history in Nicaragua since this was a turning point in its political system, they went from
dictatorship to a democratic government. Since before 1979, Nicaragua has always dealt with
corruption everywhere. However, Daniel Ortega who was now the president of the republic,
brought even more corruption and even more misery to the country. He began to ally with
communist presidents, and therefore, became a socio democrat country for a while. After a
couple of years, Nicaragua was more destroyed and devastated that it ever was. Not only did
Nicaragua become a capitalist country but also, went back to dictatorship. Daniel Ortega took over
the country and destroyed any opposition that was ever created, he believed that he was allowed to

Command And Control And Integration Of Joint Functions...
This paper provides an evaluation of the command and control and integration of joint functions
associated with the invasion of Sicily, known as Operation HUSKY. The Allies achieved a positive
outcome despite the fact that key leaders demonstrated ineffective command and control
capabilities and poor integration. The paper will first evaluate the joint function of command and
control, using the three attributes of mission command from joint doctrine: commander s intent,
mutual trust, and understanding. An evaluation of the integration of intelligence and fires joint
functions at the Operational level will follow.
On 9 JUL 1943, the Alliesinitiated Operation Husky, one of the most significant combined
operations of World War II (Birtle... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On multiple occasions, Patton used the ambiguity of the commander s intent to pursue his personal
goals (Ibid, 17).
The next attribute of mission command for consideration is trust. Once commanders communicate
their intent, they must trust their subordinates at every echelon to carry out that intent with
responsible initiative under all conditions (Mission Command White Paper, 3 April 2012, 6).
Building trust among all echelons and partners is one of the most important actions a commander
can perform (Ibid.). The lack of trust was a constant and pervasive issue for the Allies during
Operation HUSKEY. General Alexander s mistrust of the Americans, fueled partly by the
antagonistic actions of Montgomery and Patton, started a grudge between that Americans and the
British for the remainder of the War (Prescott 1994, 10).
The final attribute of mission command for consideration is understanding. Understanding
prepares leaders at all echelons with the vision and far sightedness that is essential to make
operative choices, manage risks, and consider second and third order effects (Mission Command
White Paper, 3 April 2012, 5). Leaders who possess understanding have the mental capacity to
grasp and appreciate any state of affairs which facilitates their capacity to make autonomous
decisions. Conversely, leaders who lack understanding put their troops or others at risk.

Blaising Pascal s Wager Argument
Blaise Pascal was a French scientist, philosophe, and mathematician during the early 1600 s. He
made many contributions to science and math. In 1653, Pascal s conversion to Catholicism made
him more passionate about religious matters. In one of his famous works, PensГ©es (Thoughts), he
talks about a theory on the belief of godusing what is called Pascal s Wager as support. To sum up
the argument, Pascal claims that if we do a cost benefit analysis on whether to believe God or
not, it is more reasonable to get ourselves to believe that god exists, regardless of whether we have
good evidence for that belief. From this, Pascal s argument is unsound and to support this claim,
this paper will explain and evaluate Pascal s Wager argument using the... Show more content on

William K. Clifford was a British philosopher and mathematician in the late 1800 s. In 1877, he
wrote The Ethics of Belief with the main points being it is immoral to form a new belief and
believe in it if there is not enough evidence to support it or believe in something that already
exists but ignoring the logic and reason that goes behind it and consistently believing in
something even though it harms you. These can also be used for Clifford s objections to Pascal
s argument. Clifford uses an example of a ship owner who owns a ship that is in need of repairs.
But he chooses not to do anything because he believes in his ship that has made many voyages
to and back safely. So he begins to sincerely believe that the ship is perfectly fine. Although, there
is evidence that the ship is clearly not safe, the owner still lets passengers on and lets the ship set
sail. This has to do with Pascal s argument because even though you might believe in the
existence of something that might be good in the future, it is not genuine belief. Also, Pascal says
that upon the belief in god you are also granted entrance to heaven while if you do not believe in
the existence of god then you are going to hell. If this were true, Clifford would argue that there is
no sufficient evidence that proves the existence of these places therefore it is

Kentucky s Role During The Civil War
Kentucky s Role during the Civil War The world has faced the dangers of war almost since the
beginnings of time, and America in the mid 1800 s was no different. Despite the Union having
won its freedom from England during the Revolutionary War less than a century before, problems
were brewing internally within the young and rapidly expanding country. As slavery boomed in the
southern states, the North grew less and less content with this state of affairs. It is said that to
southern whites, the Republican victory in 1860 presented an immediate danger to the slave
owning republic that had existed since 1776 (Henretta, 2012, p. 418). Southerners were not ready
to lose one of their most valuable commodities, slaves, which they feared would happen under the
leadership of Abraham Lincoln, although he promised to safeguard slavery where it existed but
vowed to prevent its expansion (Henretta, 2012, p. 420). Unheeding of Lincoln s vows, and hoping
to preserve the individual state s rights, radical southerners chose the dangerous enterprise of
secession (Henretta, 2012, p. 418). This secession began first in the state of South Carolina, when
on December 20, 1860 a unanimous vote was taken to dissolve the union now subsisting between
South Carolina and the other states (Henretta, 2012, p.418). This idea of secession spread quickly
to the surrounding southern states, resulting in five other states declaring secession within the
month. At a meeting of the seceding

Analysis Of The Book For The Sake Of Posterity
Einhard, a German raised in the Carolingian court of Charlemagne wrote a vita as a tribute to his
king around 825 826 called The Life of Charlemagne after the kings death. He wrote this book
either at Charlemagne s son King Louis court or at one of his numerous properties throughout the
Frankish kingdom. Based on the didactic nature of the document and Einhard s own saying that
the book is for the sake of posterity it is likely that his writing was either meant as a historical book
concerning the life of King Charlemagneto be used by further generations or, more likely based on
the type of information provided, meant to be a guide for future kings such as Louis on how to
be a good and proper king of as high a quality as the highly praised Charlemagne. Einhard was the
foster son of Louis father, Charlemagne, and it appears that Einhard was trying to use their mutual
father figure to set an example for Louis because Louis kingdom was unstable. However, courtiers
of the time knew that they could not outright insult King Louis actions, therefore Einhard needed a
way to communicate his constructive criticisms to the king without being forthright about his
contempt for Louis and his behaviour. The careful courtier Einhard, while writing The Life of
Charlemagne tried to make Charlemagne appear to be a strong leader as well as a friendly person
in general but, flattery aside, his writing suggests that Charlemagne was in fact controlling,
relentless, ferocious, and aggressive.

The Research Methods Of Internet Articles
There were four research methods that were used in this research question. The use of internet
articles, email interview, library books and visits to the museum. Out of all those research methods,
the most effective was the internet articles and the visits to the SA museum. In this evaluation the
four researchmethods will be discussed in details along with their pros and cons.
Internet articles were one of the main research methods, and it was chosen because using search
engines such as google offers a large range of information in seconds. However, even when most
information was fairly accurate, there are still mistakes. It would be up to the researcher to
identify if the source was credible. This can be done by doing a SCAB analysis on ... Show more

Midnight zone is another term for bathypelagic zone. Same things go for every sub question
searched within the project, for information diversity.
The second challenge of using this method is to chose the useful and trustworthy sources out of
the few articles that can be found. Some of the articles were written by organisations, some by
professors and some are more like personal blogs. This was not hard to overcome, as stated
previously that scab analysis can be done roughly for each source. It would take too much time
to do one for every source, but generally a trustworthy source can be identified if they have a
credible author and the correct information. To be able to recognise if the information within was
correct, multiple websites on the same topic were opened and compared. This will make sure the
source is as reliable as it can be.
Overall internet was extremely helpful in researching. The deep ocean was only explored so much;
there were limited information on what can be found. Internet was a place where the majority of
them gathered. This method of research contributed to most of the references in the final outcome.
The second research method was the email interview with a marine biology professor. The
research question is in the area of marine biology, and a marine biology professor would be best
suited for an interview on this question. This method was chosen because it is a great primary
source. Primary sources are needed in research project to make

The Interconnectedness Of Cultural Anthropology And Folk...
The chief concern of this paper is to explore the interconnectedness of cultural anthropology and
folk literature. There are many essays that have already shown the interrelationship between
folklore and anthropology1. Both these umbrella terms have many things in common but when it
comes to folk literature and cultural anthropology, some distinctions become apparent. To say,
hence, this paper is different in a sense that instead of dealing with the broad areas of folkloreand
anthropology, it looks at their branches and explores interconnectedness between them. Before
moving further, one needs to understand the area of folklore and folk literature. American Folklore
Society (AFS) defines folklore as the traditional art, literature, knowledge, and practice that is
disseminated largely through oral communication and behavioral example . It clearly hints that
folklore is a broad term which includes all the types of expressions whether oral, written, visual, or
performative. This leads to an inference that folk literature is one of the branches of folklore which
deals with verbal and written expressions. Similarly, anthropology is a jacket term which means a
study of humanity including the prehistoric to contemporary, whereas the cultural anthropology is
one of its four branches which aims to understand and define why a certain group behaves
differently from the other group. These clarifications lead to another inference that though both
anthropology and folklore study human

Why Did The Glass Not Fit In The Picture Frame Right Away
1. Why did the glass not fit in the picture frame right away? Explain what you did to solve the
issue in detail? The glass didn t fit in mine at the start because the wood wasn t even to the other
pieces of wood. So in doing this I had to go to the miter saw and fix the angle and cut off the wood
that made it like that. Another reason why the glassdidn t fit is because when the pieces of wood
wasn t clamped and it wasn t together tightly leaving gaps in the spaces between the wood, when
this happened I had to sand it better and see if I had to cut anything extra off. Also the lip
holding the glass was too small so, this made me have to fix and make the cut bigger. 2. What
other issues did you run into and how did you go about solving them? Some things that I ran into
was the fact that I had to fix the cutting because one piece was bigger than the other and the fact
that I had to sand some excess pieces that the miter saw would not cut... Show more content on

do that I would see what the problem is. Following that I would use the different tools to fix it.
In this I would use the miter saw. To fix the angles and use the sanders to fix any access piece I
had hanging off my project stopping me from gluing. 3. Reflect on how you felt not having step

that not having a step by step direction was okay because it helped me make my own creations,
sometimes I feel that by having a step by step process, I feel that I have to make it perfect. The
lesson that I took away from this is project is that you don t always have directions to lead you on

Expanding Disney Parks And Resorts
Expanding Disney Parks and Resorts to

The City of New Orleans is a remarkable city and has enormous potential for expansion.
The Big Easy has always been known for the French Quarter, yet New Orleans is so much more
than just a party city . I suspect there is a demand to show the family friendly side of our city. My
proposal is to offer new development in a vigilant and financially responsible manner, while
offering a glimpse of the extraordinarily exciting and expansive visions that I hope to witness in the
future. The market feasibility and infrastructure demands must both be carefully assessed. The
objective of this tourism plan is to show the possibility of developing a

setbacks along its progress, New Orleans is an international tourist attraction. Visitors come here
from all over the globe to witness our history and culture. My proposed plan will be evaluated
based on current trends, possible investment, and future economic impact. Mixing our culture with
a little Disney magic is just what the City of New Orleans needs.
Theme parks play an important role in generating revenue and tourism demand. They are one of the
leading reasons people vacation to many destinations. The theme park market is very competitive
and constantly growing. Walt Disney, creator of Disneyland and Disney World, knew he needed to

The Sisters Brothers And The Brothers
In today s society, women have an equal amount of rights compared to men. Women can work
wherever they chose, vote for whomever they may choose, and pick a lifestyle of their own
desire. This type of society has never been forever, meaning men were inferior to women at one
point in time. The novel of The Sisters Brothers portrays this type of society, and we see many
examples that the novelis presented in this type of society. The Sisters Brothers is a western
inspired story of 2 brothers and depicts many scenes where women are focused upon, and show
many qualities and roles they play in their current society. Whereas one woman may play the role
of a prostitute, others may obtain the role of a servant, shopkeeper or family caregiver. Within each
role women play, many challenges appear, and different circumstances create different outcomes.
Many of the women in the western community may have not had a choice in their current
profession, meaning many of the prostitutes were forced upon this job, and the servants as well
potentially did not have much of a choosing for their work style. This novel portrays men to be
inferior to women, and women were not seen on the streets, but the background only. As the men
would travel, and collect the money for survival, it would be the women who stay at home, or the
women keeping the men content with their travels. Prostitution; the business of a male(s) and/or

In fact, an expert from the L.A. Sheriff s Department who testified at the Sleepy Lagoon trial is
quoted as saying:
Let us view it from the biological basis. . . Total disregard for human life has always been
universal throughout the Americas in the human population. And this Mexican element feels a
desire to kill or at least to draw blood (Tobar, 1997). On top of the racism faced in the courtroom
was the media bias against the Mexican American population. In the process of covering events in
the city, the then Hearst owned papers did a series of articles on the pachuco gangs, depicting
Mexican American neighborhoods as being fraught with violence, places of raping and
pillaging (Tobar, 1997). This was the atmosphere of the city at the time of the Sleepy Lagoon
murder in 1942, when the body of Jose Diaz was found at a common swimming hole after a
party. Because of the public outrage over pachuco gangs, which was instigated by the media, the
sheriff s department went on a sweep of the city s barrios, rounding up and arresting over 600
young men in connection to the Sleepy Lagoon case. Eventually 24 men were indicted for murder,

violence to cope with the feelings of inequality, which are still a part of society today, are
cleverly included in the novel Fight Club. As the fight clubs grow the sudden commitment to this
new ideology of blind allegiance to a leader in order to prove self worth takes control of the men.
This new brotherhood and allegiance to one entity causes the men to lose all sense of self direction

The Virus Is Contagious And Mutate
The ASF virus is highly contagious and spreads rapidly in pig populations through direct and
indirect contact. This virus can persist for long periods in pig products and the environment, and
may be endemic in feral or wild suids and in Ornithodoros ticks. Isolates of ASFV vary in
virulence; some strains are highly pathogenic, resulting in almost 100% mortality while others are
low virulence or asymptomatic isolates that can be difficult to diagnose [1].
1.1.1History
Discovery of the disease
Notable epidemics/epizootics/outbreaks of this disease
Historical mortality
Once endemic in the Iberian Peninsula, ASFV was successfully eradicated from the European
Union (EU) at the end of the 1990s after a prolonged 30 year effort. The ... Show more content on

Even North American swine herds are at elevated risk of accidental or deliberate ASFV introduction
from its widespread occurrence in Eastern Europe. Unlike most trans boundary viral infections,
there is no vaccine available against ASFV. Consequently, detection and elimination of infected
animals (surveillance) combined with quarantine, pig movement controls and high herd bio
security are the only methods to control and eradicate ASF [3]. This approach is costly and often
prohibitively expensive for food insecure and developing countries affected by the disease,
increasing the probability of ASF becoming endemic in those regions. African swine fever virus
control is further complicated by its complex ecology and transmission epidemiology. In addition
to infection by direct and indirect (fomite) contact among confined domestic swine, wild suids, and
feral domestic hogs, soft bodied ticks (Genus Ornithodoros) can transmit ASF and serve as virus
reservoirs. Many wild boars in Russia and the Caucasus have been infected by ASF since 2007,
and there is evidence that some pigs may become carriers [4] The Ornithodoros tick vector is also
present in this region. However, the roles played by wild boars, feral swine and tick vectors in
ASFV eco epidemiology and transmission in the Caucasus are unknown at this time. Humans are

The Battle Of Command During Battle
A major hurdle was thus the war was being fought in foreign terrains and as such, the soldiers had
to adapt and learn quickly how to navigate and combat in new grounds. Proper training is also
essential for defining roles and functions for each member of the troops to ensure efficiency and
effectiveness of the entire units. Confusion of formations and chain of command during battle can
be devastating to any unit. Uniformity is crucial in minimizing losses and the number of casualties
in battlefields. Similarly, it is neccesary to avoid conflict of interest among soldiers of the same
troopand with allies. This war being a collaborative battle among allies thus required the highest
level of collaboration and cooperation. Proper training was thus important to ensure that all troops
worked and operated as cohesive units.
Motivation is crucial in the success of any operation whether economical or military. Workers and
in this case soldiers are thus required to be fully committed to the cause and motivated to work for
certain incentives for their service. Remunerations aren t enough to fully motivate a soldier into
engaging in life threatening battles. The political class was thus similarly influential ion offering
the servicemen proper incentives to ensure that they were motivated to perform the duties assigned
to them despite the obvious risks and hardships that they would incur. American soldiers were
largely motivated to participate in the war because of the promises that

Analysis Of J. Crew s Website
J. Crew Ease or difficulty of shopping: J. Crew s website allowed for easy shopping. The home
page offered several ways to shop. You had the option of choosing a specific category such as
women s pants, you could browse through the wear to work collection they have put together, or
you could have used the search bar that was provided to search for a specific item. Locating
desired merchandise: I found that locating the desired merchandise, khaki pants, was a little
difficult. Once I navigated to the women s pants section I found that J. Crew had broken up the
pants into the way they fit. I had no way to refine my search on this page. However, when I typed
exactly what merchandise I was looking for in the search bar on the home page I was able to
find the khaki pants quickly. Also, when I used the search bar I was able to refine my search
with tabs reading women, men, girl, or boys. Merchandise and assortments: I found that J. Crew
did not have a large assortment of women s pants. After finding my desired merchandise, I saw
that they offered only three types of khaki pants. What has J. Crew done to exploit the synergies
between different channels? J.Crew has several ways to shop with their retail stores, online store,
catalogs, and direct mail. They have done a few things to exploit the synergies between these
different channels. One noticeable strategy that J. Crew uses is offering deals that can be used only
online and giving students and teachers in store discounts

Graffiti As A Modern Form Of Art
Art has been a highly valued way of expressing oneself in any culture. Through the use of the
artistic skill one can show the oppression that may be felt from society, or to develop a certain
style that follows what the culture is up to date with and problems that may need some emphasis
to be noticed. Art is not only left for the artistically skilled to do anyone who can develop a
thought and can put artistic meaning on their own creative canvas can be considered an artist.
Graffiti has been considered as an irrational way of property damage called art , or a beautiful
way for the common artist to express their problems, thoughts or ideas. Graffiti should be
considered a modern form of art. Graffiti possesses all the makings to be considered artwork that
can be achieved by anyone and is placed on public walls for all to view and interpret as they feel
accordingly. Graffiti is an art form that the common person can use to express their views, but
graffiti is also an extremely controversial topic in society. Some people believe that public space
should not be destroyed by tagging and graffiti, but the people that think that put graffiti and
tagging in the same category. For example, someone could paint a mural on a public space of a
little girl holding a soldiers hand. This isn t someone destroying a public space, this is someone
making a beautiful representation of their take on what the army is doing for the world. If this
was on a paper canvas it could be put in an art

Reflection Paper On Japanese Garden
The Japanese gardens is going to be the basis of my reflection paper with regards to the topic on
reconnaissance. The Japanese gardens are small gardens with a certain unique landscape found
especially in eastern japan. The Japanese gardens apart from being archaic, are existent to date. In
major countries in the world today, it is next to impossible to find practices that have existed to
date bearing in mind the speedy population growth (Harry). Moreover, japan being one of the most
industrialized countries in the world, one would think that the population should be thinking of
more industrial expansion for the benefit of economic growth. Japan has however defied the odds
by preserving their gardens not only for this generation but also for the generations to come. This is
something in my opinion that is of keen interest. There are certain elements that are depicted in the
reading that are depicted that makes it stand out as compared to the other three genres that were
provided. First, their religious beliefs are automatically depicted in their environment.... Show more

The art employed in its design is something that leaves a lot to be asked. The symbolism
employed in its design such as the three stones to represent Buddha and the raked sand to
represent water flow is something that brings out the aesthetic value of the gardens. Beauty in its
general meaning is not just something or someone that looks good on the face of it. Beauty
should be able to speak for itself in a way that can be understood not by anyone but only by those
whom it is designed to communicate to leaving the rest of the world guessing. The Japanese
gardens have not failed under this definition. They speak a lot on the Japanese culture but only the
Japanese understand it. The rest of the world only marvel at its uniqueness while at the same time
understanding close to nothing on the very meaning of the Japanese gardens. That to me is

Intimate Life As Contemporary Art
According to www.merriam webster.com, contemporary is defined as happening or beginning now
or in recent times. When utilized in art and photography, it s connoted as vague, obscure, and by
definition always in flux. For some it signifies cutting edge work that pushes the limitations of
recognized practice, style, subject matter, mediums, or concepts.
In the book the photograph as contemporary art Contemporary Photography is divided into eight
categories that were chosen to highlight the diverse styles and subject matter that is somehow
connected through similar characteristics.

What make these images stand out are the dynamic sequences and their emphasis on unanticipated
moments in everyday life.
The Sixth Chapter contemplates Moments in History by using documentary photography in a form
of art. Using a counter photojournalistic approach coined as aftermath photography . Photographers
here present the tales of the consequences of political and human disruption. Moreover, others
investigate the visual records of isolated communities.
The seventh Chapter Revived and Remade investigates and exploits ones preexisting knowledge of
imagery by mimicking and remaking well known photographs.
Finally Chapter 8 Physical and Material draws attention to the many decisions that photographers
have made to the physical and material properties of photography. Some use analogue while others
have mixed different mediums such as installations and sculptural work mixed with photography.
The second part of the chapter discusses alternatives ways of gaining exposure by the Internet. After
summarizing the content of this book, an in depth research of some photographers from chapter
five Intimate Life will be discussed.

Audio Video Technician Training Case Study
Introduction:
A potential future shortage of Audio Video Technicians in the Grey Bruce region has been
identified. The rural region does not generally attract skilled workers in this specific field as the
region has fewer employment opportunities in the field than larger urban centres. Local
municipalities are looking to grow the arts, entertainment and recreation industry within the region,
which will have an impact on our theatre production company, as we have the region s largest audio
visual department.

  • 2. Compare And Contrast Renaissance And Humanism Renaissance, which means rebirth in French, might be defined as the awakening of art, literature, architecture and learning in Europe between fourteenth and mid sixteenth centuries through the contribution of classical sources. Despite the fact that it was originated in Italy, it started to spread throughout Europe and contributed to the transition from the Medieval Age to the modern one. Proponents of this movement emphatically connected themselves with the values of classical antiquity, especially as seen in the recently rediscovered works of art of writing and history. Additionally, they had a tendency to separate themselves from works written in the Middle Ages, a historical period they looked upon rather negatively. According to them, the Middle Ages were set in the center of two significantly profitable periods. In the same way, Humanism, which has an ideal of placing human beings at the center of the universe rather than God, was the major intellectual movement of the Renaissanceand then it became the dominant sophisticated movement in Europe in the 16th century. Supporters of this movement asserted that humanistic studies, comprising of the examination and imitation of the established culture of Ancient Rome and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 3. Pleasantville Biblical Refrences Essay The movie Pleasantville (Produced and directed by Gary Ross in 1988) is more than just your ordinary film. Pleasantville sends a message within a message. Not only is it a great film, (made popular by New Line Cinema) it contains numerous biblical references. Some of the biblical references in this film may be easier to see and understand than others. But when asked to analyze this film and critique the biblical references you will understand just how many there are. To me the most obvious relation to the bible is in a scene where the main character David (Tobey Maguire) is the first to see a fire that breaks out in a tree in his front yard. Ironically enough, the tree is on fire, but is not consumed by the flames, it s burning but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The serpent eventually persuades Eve to eat from the Tree of Knowledge . After she eats from it, she has Adam eat from it. Shortly after, they finally notice they are naked and become self conscious and cover up. God then asks about what they have done and Eve blames Adam, while Adam blames the Serpent. God curses them, and makes Eve suffer through labor and banishes both of them from the Garden of Eden. The relation in the movies comes from a scene in the end involving David and another girl from his school. Color starts to fill Pleasantville, and the girl he is sitting with in the lawn gets up and grabs a fruit of off the tree, and then she hands the fruit to David to eat, much like Eve did with Adam. As soon as they ate the fruit, it started to rain in Pleasantville for the first time ever, symbolizing God s anger, and color now completely filled Pleasantville. The discovery in books also reminds me of the Tree of Knowledge of good and evil , the books being good, and the reading of them being evil because it made people curious to as what else was out in the real world. Therefore there is an effect in both cases, the biblical one, and also the movie. Pleasantville, (before David and Jennifer) is a dream world if you will, everyone is always happy and there are never any conflicts with anyone. Once the two of them arrive however, everything changes. In Pleasantville everything is black and white, but after Jennifer has sex ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Picard s Argument Analysis I learned so much from our guest speaker, Andre Picard, the Globe and Mail s Public Health reporter. He made me rethink my whole perspective on patients right with his talk about assisted suicide and abortion. Contrary to popular belief, doctors are not bound by the Hippocratic Oath. However, they may choose to do so and follow it. Consequently, this means that they can refuse assisted suicideas it harms someone s life. What really struck me was when he said that he believed that a patients rights should triumph doctors oath to protect and save. This was appalling to me at first, but after giving it more thought it made sense. I was able to piece together what he meant by that as the right to have a choice gives people autonomy and dignity... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is a right that is often overlooked. I agreed with Picard when he provided that the right to die is in a way a symbolic right that we should have as it gives us a choice if certain requirements are met. I also found it interesting that the concern of the slippery slope is not always the case /problem. After the discussion, I saw my perspective change as I began to agree and see where Picard was coming from. In the end, I also found myself agreeing with the premise that the patients right triumph over the right of doctors to reject if death is imminent. The consumer movement was something I never heard off and was surprised of having learned that the language around differentiating cancer varied (e.g. taboo to say breast cancer, so they used to say women s cancer ). Over time, people progressed and moved away from that as cancer became a more discussed topic. Especially with the terry Fox, the movement was brought into public view. Overall, I found Andre Picard had great thoughts on public policy and how human rights will evolve over time. As he asserted in class, people will come out and discusses their story before the public even if it is a private matter just to advance the right. He used to example of Rodriguez and how she brought forth a court case to show the public that this issue needs to be examined even though she eventually ended her life through an illegal physician assisted ... Joseph II of Austria was emperor of the Holy Roman Empire from 1765 to 1790, and served as ruler of Habsburg from 1780 to 1790. During his tenure, Joseph sough truly radical changes in government through Enlightenment ideas. His commitment to modernizing reforms, although, endangered him and allowed significant opposition to gain power against him. For that reason, he never fully implemented his plans of absolutism, as he died without an heir to the throne. 2)Toleration Patent 1781. The Toleration Patent of 1781, also known as the Edict of Toleration, was an edict that was issued in 1781 by Joseph II of Austria. In contrast, the humanistic approach emphasised the conscious awareness of needs, choices and personal responsibilities of the individual (Lahey, 2009). They believed that the personal worth of the particular individual, the centrality of human values, and the creative and active nature of human beings was what defined the person (McLeod, 2007). Basically, the humanistic approach, according to Abraham Maslow, was that humans are born good and that human nature is compassionate and positive (Larsen Buss, 2012). Both the psychoanalytic and humanistic theories differ from one another in multiple ways. One of the most prominent differences is their view on human nature. As mentioned above, Freud and his psychoanalytic concept, viewed humans as inherently bad. The id, he defined, operated solely on the pleasure principle, craving immediate gratification without consideration about moral values and the harm it could cause (McLeod, 2008). He also believed that the ego and the superego was the minds way of controlling the id ((Lahey, 2009; Larsen Buss, 2012; McLeod, 2008). In contrast, humanistic psychologists viewed human nature as fundamentally good. Maslow had a positive view on men, believing that each had the ability to grow and mature into proper beings, and make use of their full potential (Boeree, 2000 Larsen Buss, 2012). To be able to discuss adequately how the master narratives of Bronte and Rhys time are revised, one must first understand what those master narratives were and what the social mood of the time was. From there one will be able to discuss how they were revised, and if in fact they were revised at all. Bronte is known as one of the first revolutionary and challenging authoress with her text Jane Eyre. Throughout the course of the text this female character pulls herself up from no social standing to somebody with a wealthy inheritance, eventually marrying the man she loves under her conditions, without having to compromise her beliefs or herself. Jane s relationship with Rochester is a key element of Bronte s revising the master narrative. She of course falls in love with Rochester whilst she is a member of his staff, she has no independence of her own, whether that be financial or otherwise. She ends up fleeing Thornfield, for despite her love of Rochester, she wants to be equal, and knows he ultimately wants to master her. If the first child is a boy, sometimes they will only have one (Kridli, 2002). Kridli says that there are three main pressures to have children in the Arabic culture, they include: 1. Traditional required for help and work in the fields and caregivers for elderly parents, 2. Familial pressure to have kids to be able to preserve the family name, 3. Religious desire to be fruitful and the belief in God and his powers to care for any child that is conceived (2002). For years, blondes have been associated with words such as dumb , needy , promiscuous and other unflattering adjectives. Even with these unfortunate stereotypes, research proves that blondes may be the exact opposite. Those with blonde hair are smarter, wealthier, and are genetically predispositioned to have attractive qualities. Blondes have been proven to be the most intelligent when compared to other hair shades. In a study conducted by the Ohio State University where 10,878 females were surveyed, blonde women enjoyed an average IQ of 103.2. Those with brown hair mustered a mere 102.7. Redheads managed 101.2. And what s with black haired women? Theirs was an average IQ of 100.5 (Matyszezyk 2016). Blondes typically have a stigmatism associated with them, such as being dumb and having little common sense. This stereotype often appears in the media, with numerous movies focused around blonde women with little intelligence. While this doesn t automatically equate directly to genetics, it can mean that blonde women are better set up for success. Research by the National Longitudinal Survey of Youth shows that people with naturally blondhair were found to have typically grown up in environments with more reading materials available to them, allowing for more intellectual stimulation during their early growth period than people with other hair colors had (Ricevuto 2016). ... This is what skiing can do for you; however, it hasn t always been a way to get out and enjoy the mountain air. As a matter of fact, skiing used to be mainly for survival. Scientists have found rock art drawn by ancient civilizations in 8000 B.C. that depict people skiing. Back in those days, it was the Scandinavians, Russians, and Altay Mountain folk that were using some form of skis to travel vast distances and hunt; thus skiing was a way of survival. It wasn t until about the 1860 s that Americans in Sierra Nevada started to use skis to race and have fun. After that, well the rest is history skiing is now a significant leisure activity around the world. However, there are important points in the history of skiing that made a considerable difference in the ski world we know today. It is still being debated where skiing originated, but it most likely the Tuvan s who developed skiing within the Altay Mountains of China. Altay skis were made of wood with one end curled upward, there were straps for your feet, and horsehide on the bottoms. The horse hair made the skis grip when walking uphill, but then slide when going downhill. The Tuvan s also used a single pole called a Taiyak for steering and balance. The skis were approximately 8 feet long and skier used them by leaning back extremely far; making them gain speed quickly. This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 24. Why Advertising Alcohol Is Destroying Public Well-Being Essay Brenna Clarine Mrs. Vanwormer C.P. Reading Writing 6 May 2016 Why Advertising Alcohol Is Destroying Public Well Being When I was nine years old, I remember seeing the most delectable, mouthwatering commercial on television. It was for beer. Growing up in a family that did not drink, I never thought beer could look so appetizing. The beverage was everywhere I looked except for in my own fridge. Not only adults, but kids and teens everywhere are being bombarded with alcohol advertisements. Many of these youths choose to succumb to these ads and end up with destructive drinking habits. Not only is alcohol damaging to youth but also to adults. According to a U.S. study, adults were found to put themselves at severe risk of harm after having more than four drinks in one session (Medew). This number can change depending on the gender, size, athleticism, and other factors of the consumer. Although some may say that alcohol is not too damaging if drunk responsibly, the fact that alcohol is a direct route to damaging organs like the liver, heart, and pancreas and harming the brain is a red flag (NIHSeniorHealth). To whatever extent, alcohol weakens the brain s control over movement, speech, memory, and especially judgement, which often leads to impulsive behavior and other dangerous activities (NIHSeniorHealth). There are plenty of harmful side effects of drinking, so the obvious solution to preserving the nation s well being is to not encourage it. One quote by a Seattle ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Many foreign policy makers in the western hemisphere and other developing countries often behave as if capitalism and democracy are inseparable. In order to understand how democracy and capitalism have thrived as a political ideology and economic system in the Republic of Nicaragua, people should understand all the struggles that people in the country had to experience since 1979. After the guerrillas took over the country, they overthrew the president and abolished the dictatorship that Nicaragua had endured for a long time. After a couple of years, people in Nicaragua were finally able to elect democratically who they wanted as their president. This was something that marked history in Nicaragua since this was a turning point in its political system, they went from dictatorship to a democratic government. This paper provides an evaluation of the command and control and integration of joint functions associated with the invasion of Sicily, known as Operation HUSKY. The Allies achieved a positive outcome despite the fact that key leaders demonstrated ineffective command and control capabilities and poor integration. The paper will first evaluate the joint function of command and control, using the three attributes of mission command from joint doctrine: commander s intent, mutual trust, and understanding. On multiple occasions, Patton used the ambiguity of the commander s intent to pursue his personal goals (Ibid, 17). The next attribute of mission command for consideration is trust. Once commanders communicate their intent, they must trust their subordinates at every echelon to carry out that intent with responsible initiative under all conditions (Mission Command White Paper, 3 April 2012, 6). Building trust among all echelons and partners is one of the most important actions a commander can perform (Ibid.). The lack of trust was a constant and pervasive issue for the Allies during Operation HUSKEY. General Alexander s mistrust of the Americans, fueled partly by the antagonistic actions of Montgomery and Patton, started a grudge between that Americans and the British for the remainder of the War (Prescott 1994, 10). The final attribute of mission command for consideration is understanding. Understanding prepares leaders at all echelons with the vision and far sightedness that is essential to make operative choices, manage risks, and consider second and third order effects (Mission Command White Paper, 3 April 2012, 5). Leaders who possess understanding have the mental capacity to grasp and appreciate any state of affairs which facilitates their capacity to make autonomous decisions. In one of his famous works, PensГ©es (Thoughts), he talks about a theory on the belief of godusing what is called Pascal s Wager as support. To sum up the argument, Pascal claims that if we do a cost benefit analysis on whether to believe God or not, it is more reasonable to get ourselves to believe that god exists, regardless of whether we have good evidence for that belief. Clifford was a British philosopher and mathematician in the late 1800 s. In 1877, he wrote The Ethics of Belief with the main points being it is immoral to form a new belief and believe in it if there is not enough evidence to support it or believe in something that already exists but ignoring the logic and reason that goes behind it and consistently believing in something even though it harms you. These can also be used for Clifford s objections to Pascal s argument. Clifford uses an example of a ship owner who owns a ship that is in need of repairs. But he chooses not to do anything because he believes in his ship that has made many voyages to and back safely. So he begins to sincerely believe that the ship is perfectly fine. Although, there is evidence that the ship is clearly not safe, the owner still lets passengers on and lets the ship set sail. This has to do with Pascal s argument because even though you might believe in the existence of something that might be good in the future, it is not genuine belief. Also, Pascal says that upon the belief in god you are also granted entrance to heaven while if you do not believe in the existence of god then you are going to hell. If this were true, Clifford would argue that there is no sufficient evidence that proves the existence of these places therefore it is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. Kentucky s Role During The Civil War Kentucky s Role during the Civil War The world has faced the dangers of war almost since the beginnings of time, and America in the mid 1800 s was no different. Despite the Union having won its freedom from England during the Revolutionary War less than a century before, problems were brewing internally within the young and rapidly expanding country. As slavery boomed in the southern states, the North grew less and less content with this state of affairs. It is said that to southern whites, the Republican victory in 1860 presented an immediate danger to the slave owning republic that had existed since 1776 (Henretta, 2012, p. 418). Southerners were not ready to lose one of their most valuable commodities, slaves, which they feared would happen under the leadership of Abraham Lincoln, although he promised to safeguard slavery where it existed but vowed to prevent its expansion (Henretta, 2012, p. 420). Unheeding of Lincoln s vows, and hoping to preserve the individual state s rights, radical southerners chose the dangerous enterprise of secession (Henretta, 2012, p. 418). This secession began first in the state of South Carolina, when on December 20, 1860 a unanimous vote was taken to dissolve the union now subsisting between South Carolina and the other states (Henretta, 2012, p.418). This idea of secession spread quickly to the surrounding southern states, resulting in five other states declaring secession within the month. At a meeting of the seceding ... Analysis Of The Book For The Sake Of Posterity Einhard, a German raised in the Carolingian court of Charlemagne wrote a vita as a tribute to his king around 825 826 called The Life of Charlemagne after the kings death. He wrote this book either at Charlemagne s son King Louis court or at one of his numerous properties throughout the Frankish kingdom. Based on the didactic nature of the document and Einhard s own saying that the book is for the sake of posterity it is likely that his writing was either meant as a historical book concerning the life of King Charlemagneto be used by further generations or, more likely based on the type of information provided, meant to be a guide for future kings such as Louis on how to be a good and proper king of as high a quality as the highly praised Charlemagne. Einhard was the foster son of Louis father, Charlemagne, and it appears that Einhard was trying to use their mutual father figure to set an example for Louis because Louis kingdom was unstable. However, courtiers of the time knew that they could not outright insult King Louis actions, therefore Einhard needed a way to communicate his constructive criticisms to the king without being forthright about his contempt for Louis and his behaviour. The careful courtier Einhard, while writing The Life of Charlemagne tried to make Charlemagne appear to be a strong leader as well as a friendly person in general but, flattery aside, his writing suggests that Charlemagne was in fact controlling, relentless, ferocious, and aggressive. ... There are many essays that have already shown the interrelationship between folklore and anthropology1. Both these umbrella terms have many things in common but when it comes to folk literature and cultural anthropology, some distinctions become apparent. To say, hence, this paper is different in a sense that instead of dealing with the broad areas of folkloreand anthropology, it looks at their branches and explores interconnectedness between them. Before moving further, one needs to understand the area of folklore and folk literature. American Folklore Society (AFS) defines folklore as the traditional art, literature, knowledge, and practice that is disseminated largely through oral communication and behavioral example . It clearly hints that folklore is a broad term which includes all the types of expressions whether oral, written, visual, or performative. This leads to an inference that folk literature is one of the branches of folklore which deals with verbal and written expressions. Similarly, anthropology is a jacket term which means a study of humanity including the prehistoric to contemporary, whereas the cultural anthropology is one of its four branches which aims to understand and define why a certain group behaves differently from the other group. The glass didn t fit in mine at the start because the wood wasn t even to the other pieces of wood. So in doing this I had to go to the miter saw and fix the angle and cut off the wood that made it like that. Another reason why the glassdidn t fit is because when the pieces of wood wasn t clamped and it wasn t together tightly leaving gaps in the spaces between the wood, when this happened I had to sand it better and see if I had to cut anything extra off. Also the lip holding the glass was too small so, this made me have to fix and make the cut bigger. 2. What other issues did you run into and how did you go about solving them? Unlike most trans boundary viral infections, there is no vaccine available against ASFV. Consequently, detection and elimination of infected animals (surveillance) combined with quarantine, pig movement controls and high herd bio security are the only methods to control and eradicate ASF [3]. This approach is costly and often prohibitively expensive for food insecure and developing countries affected by the disease, increasing the probability of ASF becoming endemic in those regions. African swine fever virus control is further complicated by its complex ecology and transmission epidemiology. In addition to infection by direct and indirect (fomite) contact among confined domestic swine, wild suids, and feral domestic hogs, soft bodied ticks (Genus Ornithodoros) can transmit ASF and serve as virus reservoirs. Many wild boars in Russia and the Caucasus have been infected by ASF since 2007, and there is evidence that some pigs may become carriers [4] The Ornithodoros tick vector is also present in this region. The rest of the world only marvel at its uniqueness while at the same time understanding close to nothing on the very meaning of the Japanese gardens. That to me is ...
